- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Starting a new week is always a good thing,
- 0:09Speaker 1: and no better way to start it than by reading
- 0:13Speaker 1: a bit of God's word, the Bible, and saying, God,
- 0:17Speaker 1: what do you have to say to me today? Because
- 0:20Speaker 1: one thing you can be certain of, God has something
- 0:22Speaker 1: to say to you every day of your life. If
- 0:25Speaker 1: you're listening, and if you put yourself in the place
- 0:28Speaker 1: to hear what He has to say, there's no better
- 0:31Speaker 1: place for that than by opening your Bible.
- 0:34Speaker 1: So let me open the Bible, and I want to
- 0:37Speaker 1: spend this week in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 in the Bible.
- 0:44Speaker 1: This great chapter focused on the death and resurrection of Jesus.
- 0:51Speaker 1: The apostle Paul, writing to the Corinthian church, says, Now
- 0:56Speaker 1: I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached
- 1:01Speaker 1: to you which you received, in which you stand, and
- 1:07Speaker 1: by which you are being saved if you hold fast
- 1:11Speaker 1: to the word I preached to you.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Unless you believed in vain, for I delivered to you
- 1:20Speaker 1: as of first importance what I also received, that Christ
- 1:26Speaker 1: died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that
- 1:31Speaker 1: He was buried, that He was raised on the 3rd
- 1:34Speaker 1: day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He appeared
- 1:38Speaker 1: to Cephas, C Cephas is Peter.
- 1:42Speaker 1: That he appeared to C Cephas, then to the 12.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Then he appeared to more than 500 brothers at one time,
- 1:51Speaker 1: most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Then he appeared to James. Then to all the apostles,
- 2:02Speaker 1: last of all, as to one untimely born.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He appeared also to me, for I am the least
- 2:11Speaker 1: of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because
- 2:16Speaker 1: I persecuted the Church of God.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Well
- 2:22Speaker 1: It's very clear that Paul is saying something very important,
- 2:26Speaker 1: isn't he? The gospel I preached to you, which you received,
- 2:30Speaker 1: in which you stand, and by which you are being saved.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Here is the core of what a person needs to
- 2:38Speaker 1: know and understand, to be born again, to be forgiven
- 2:43Speaker 1: of their sins, to be right with God, to be
- 2:45Speaker 1: welcomed into God's family and have their life changed from
- 2:49Speaker 1: the inside out, not from the outside in by a
- 2:53Speaker 1: whole bunch of rules and expectations placed on them by
- 2:56Speaker 1: the church they go to that never saved anybody.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's by being born again in our spirit, in our
- 3:03Speaker 1: inner lives, that then changes the way we live on
- 3:07Speaker 1: the outside. That is what being born again means, and
- 3:11Speaker 1: this is how it happens. Paul says, I gave to
- 3:15Speaker 1: you as of first importance what I also received the
- 3:19Speaker 1: same message that changed my life.
- 3:22Speaker 1: That Christ died for our sins. Paul says there's this
- 3:27Speaker 1: problem between you and God. You know you need this
- 3:30Speaker 1: new way of life. You know you can't change yourself.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You know that life isn't just about having fun, that
- 3:37Speaker 1: it's about meaning and purpose, and you cannot make that happen.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Well, Paul says there's a problem between you and God
- 3:45Speaker 1: that keeps His activity, His life transforming activity from taking
- 3:51Speaker 1: place in your life, and that is that you have
- 3:55Speaker 1: so many times done what you knew was wrong. God
- 3:58Speaker 1: gave you that sense of right and wrong, and if
- 4:01Speaker 1: you've been exposed to His word, the Bible, then you
- 4:04Speaker 1: know that so often you've broken God's way of living,
- 4:08Speaker 1: His laws of life.
- 4:09Speaker 1: That stands between us and God. It makes God angry,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and as the judge of the universe, it is an
- 4:18Speaker 1: offence that has to be held account.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But here's what Paul says. The good news Christ died
- 4:26Speaker 1: for our sins. Jesus, who didn't deserve any of that stuff, said,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I will take their place. I'll be their substitute, and
- 4:36Speaker 1: I will take the judgement that they deserved. And so
- 4:39Speaker 1: he died on the cross, experienced enormous pain and suffering,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and the separation from God the Father that we deserved,
- 4:48Speaker 1: all so that.
- 4:50Speaker 1: The barrier that's between us and God could be removed,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and we could be welcomed into God's family, forgiven and transformed.
- 4:59Speaker 1: If you need that, you know, you can just come
- 5:01Speaker 1: to God and say thank you so much for what
- 5:03Speaker 1: Jesus did for me on the cross. He died on
- 5:06Speaker 1: the cross for me. And not only that, but Paul says,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and on the 3rd day he was raised. And so
- 5:13Speaker 1: your second point of confidence is God.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Thank you that Jesus died on the cross for me
- 5:18Speaker 1: and made a way for my sins to be forgiven,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but thank you also that he's alive today and can
- 5:23Speaker 1: be a part of my life and change me from
- 5:27Speaker 1: the inside out.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I'm John North.
