- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi is Luza Fox for the iHeart So Cal show
- 0:03Speaker 1: No Child Should Go Hungry in America, but sadly one
- 0:06Speaker 1: and five kids in the US live with hunger. That's
- 0:09Speaker 1: nearly fourteen million children. And No Kid Hungry is working
- 0:14Speaker 1: to end childhood hungery by by helping launch and improve
- 0:17Speaker 1: programs they give all kids the healthy food they need
- 0:19Speaker 1: to thrive. They have a huge fundraiser Happy next Saturday
- 0:23Speaker 1: on Aprile eleventh here in La and On to talk
- 0:25Speaker 1: all about their big night out for No Kid Hungry.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Is their senior program manager with No Kid Hungry, Ya
- 0:31Speaker 1: Andrea Quaar Hi, Andrea.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Hi, thank you so much for having me so, of.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Course, and TV personality superstar chef and longtime No Kid
- 0:40Speaker 1: Hungry supporter Michael Voltagio.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Hi, Michael, Hi, hell are you? Oh?
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm wonderful that I'm already salivating about this night. I
- 0:48Speaker 1: want to dive into the big night. But first, before
- 0:51Speaker 1: we touch on the fundraiser, I do want to ask Andrea,
- 0:54Speaker 1: let's start with you. For folks who aren't familiar, what
- 0:57Speaker 1: is No Kid Hungry and how does it work? It's
- 0:59Speaker 1: a big question, but how does it all work?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Great? Well, Noked Hungry is a national campaign run by
- 1:06Speaker 2: the nonprofit Share Our Strength, and our mission is simple
- 1:09Speaker 2: but urgent, and that is to end child hunger here
- 1:12Speaker 2: in America. As you mentioned, currently, nearly fourteen million kids
- 1:17Speaker 2: in the US are living with hunger right now, and
- 1:20Speaker 2: here in California specifically, that is one out of every
- 1:23Speaker 2: six children. So I want you to think about that
- 1:25Speaker 2: for a minute. These kids aren't in far away places.
- 1:29Speaker 2: They're in our neighborhoods, They're in our community. Across the country,
- 1:33Speaker 2: Austen families are being forced into impossible choices right like
- 1:36Speaker 2: do I pay for an electricity bill or do I
- 1:39Speaker 2: buy enough food to feed my kids this week? So
- 1:41Speaker 2: no child shoever be caught in the middle of that,
- 1:43Speaker 2: and that's why we exist. That's why the NOKED Hunger.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Campaign exists, and thank God for you guys.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Now, how does it work is a lot I'm assuming
- 1:50Speaker 1: a lot of programs in schools right right.
- 1:52Speaker 2: So we work with school districts, community based organizations and
- 1:56Speaker 2: we provide them with funding, tools, resources that they need
- 2:00Speaker 2: in order to connect the kids with healthy food. And
- 2:03Speaker 2: we are so incredibly fortunate to also have absolutely amazing
- 2:07Speaker 2: culinary partners like Jeff Michael who cares so deeply about
- 2:11Speaker 2: this work and believe that every kid deserves three meals
- 2:14Speaker 2: a day to grow up healthy and happy and wrong.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah, And speaking of that, Michael as a chef, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: I can hear I think, is it the kids in
- 2:20Speaker 1: your car or in Andrea's car?
- 2:22Speaker 3: I was going to say, I am.
- 2:23Speaker 4: An ultimate girl that I have three daughters sitting by.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Girls.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So as a dad and as a superstar chef, how
- 2:33Speaker 1: did you get involved and no kid hungry?
- 2:34Speaker 3: And why is it so important to you?
- 2:36Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I think you just said it right.
- 2:38Speaker 4: I have three children, and I've cooked my entire career
- 2:43Speaker 4: to not only feed other people, but to feed my
- 2:45Speaker 4: own family. And for me to align myself with an
- 2:48Speaker 4: organization that does that, I can literally take what I
- 2:51Speaker 4: do for a living and just continue to expand the
- 2:55Speaker 4: amount of people that I can help and feed and
- 2:58Speaker 4: sort of communicate this issue our platforms as well. I mean,
- 3:01Speaker 4: it's a natural fit for me, and it's a real issue.
- 3:04Speaker 4: And I think one of the biggest questions that I
- 3:05Speaker 4: get oftentimes is what are you involved in and how
- 3:08Speaker 4: can we help? And I think one of the biggest
- 3:10Speaker 4: uh sort of questions that everyone has is how do
- 3:12Speaker 4: I get with the right organization that's doing the right
- 3:14Speaker 4: work and actually getting the work done. And I think
- 3:17Speaker 4: with no kid hungry specifically and share our strengths. I mean,
- 3:20Speaker 4: the stats are there and the call to action is there,
- 3:23Speaker 4: and I think that the time is now and we
- 3:25Speaker 4: all have you know, our part that we can play
- 3:28Speaker 4: in this, and it can be as simple as showing
- 3:31Speaker 4: up for the night out with all of us. And
- 3:33Speaker 4: I think just contributing by getting a ticket and coming
- 3:37Speaker 4: and sort of getting involved in that way and seeing
- 3:39Speaker 4: the power behind the community that is involved in this.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I mean there's over fifty chefs, mixologists, restaurant tours that
- 3:46Speaker 4: are getting involved. We've got potentially Warren g coming to
- 3:49Speaker 4: spend some s.
- 3:51Speaker 1: His name is on the website, Michael, he must be coming.
- 3:53Speaker 1: It's on the website.
- 3:56Speaker 4: But again, that's what that's cool about all this, and
- 3:59Speaker 4: Andrew Day is, well, well, it's you know that conversation
- 4:02Speaker 4: Warren I met at a music festival a few years
- 4:03Speaker 4: ago and then we started talking because he's in the barbecue.
- 4:06Speaker 4: And then now it was you know, a simple text
- 4:09Speaker 4: message of like hey, if you're available this night, we've
- 4:12Speaker 4: got this event happening, And the answer was like, yes, indeed,
- 4:15Speaker 4: I'll be there, And I just that's what's so cool
- 4:18Speaker 4: about this community is that the more we expand and
- 4:22Speaker 4: sort of educate and reach out to our friends and colleagues,
- 4:25Speaker 4: the bigger, better and more effective and more help you know,
- 4:29Speaker 4: as a result of all of that becomes obvious and
- 4:32Speaker 4: comes to life. And I just it's been over a
- 4:34Speaker 4: decade for me. I've been working with Share Strength and
- 4:37Speaker 4: No Get Hungry and my brother and I it's a
- 4:39Speaker 4: family thing for us. Our family gets involved. We've brought
- 4:42Speaker 4: other professional partners to the table as well. Walliamson Omans
- 4:45Speaker 4: a company that I used to do a lot of
- 4:47Speaker 4: work with and still do a lot of work with,
- 4:49Speaker 4: and even just making like professional introductions like that has
- 4:52Speaker 4: been something that has sort of again provided an opportunity
- 4:56Speaker 4: to just continue to grow this community and get really
- 4:58Speaker 4: important work done and get food food in front of
- 5:00Speaker 4: these kids that need it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And isn't it so nice when you ask they say yes,
- 5:03Speaker 1: they just know they trust these organizations and know, like
- 5:06Speaker 1: what Andrea said, you know and what you said, they
- 5:09Speaker 1: trust that what they're doing is a good thing and
- 5:11Speaker 1: a needed things, sadly needed thing, but it's something that
- 5:14Speaker 1: we're all coming together for.
- 5:15Speaker 3: So now it's your turn, those of you listening.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It's a night out for No Kid Hungry, a very
- 5:20Speaker 1: special night next Saturday, April eleventh, No Kid Hungry dot
- 5:24Speaker 1: org slash night Out. This is a massive event. There's
- 5:27Speaker 1: a dinner, then there's the tasting and the after party,
- 5:30Speaker 1: which you're co hosting. So let's dive into the tasting
- 5:32Speaker 1: because their artic is available. And if you go to
- 5:35Speaker 1: that website, No Kid Hungry dot org slash night Out,
- 5:37Speaker 1: you type in the code join us twenty you'll get
- 5:40Speaker 1: twenty percent off this incredible night and that automatically gets
- 5:44Speaker 1: you into the after party. So Michael I was looking
- 5:46Speaker 1: at the list of these chefs involved for the tasting.
- 5:50Speaker 1: So many incredible restaurants coming together, and a bunch of
- 5:52Speaker 1: my favorites like the Border Girl Ladies mary Sue Milligan
- 5:56Speaker 1: and Susan Feneger, Border Girl Catering, Love and Salts. Also
- 5:59Speaker 1: the lot Upster in Santa Monica with my chef Govid.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So many people you want to name some of the
- 6:04Speaker 1: restaurants on this list and folks involved, Yeah, I mean.
- 6:07Speaker 4: For me it's like your favorite chef's favorite chefs are
- 6:10Speaker 4: all going to be in the same place. Yeah, you know,
- 6:13Speaker 4: from Ludo Lefev to Doff Goldman who's hosting the after
- 6:18Speaker 4: party with me, Brooke Williamson who is a fellow Titan
- 6:22Speaker 4: with me on Bobby's Triple Threat. I mean, the list
- 6:24Speaker 4: is it's growing as we speak, and I think that's
- 6:28Speaker 4: what's so amazing about this is that again, it's like
- 6:31Speaker 4: once one person hears about it, everyone wants to get
- 6:33Speaker 4: involved and everyone wants.
- 6:34Speaker 3: To help, and that's what it's all about.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Night Out for No Kid Hungry next Saturday, April eleventh,
- 6:39Speaker 1: at the La Rolling Greens in downtown Los Angeles, bringing
- 6:43Speaker 1: together over fifty of the best chefs, restaurants, tours, tastemakers,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and mixologists from around the country. Night Out for No
- 6:49Speaker 1: Kid Hungry gives guests the unique opportunity to experience the
- 6:52Speaker 1: best of Californa's dynamic culinary scene and one night, one
- 6:56Speaker 1: fun filled, packed night of so much going on, all
- 6:59Speaker 1: and support of this mission to end childhood hunger. At
- 7:03Speaker 1: the tasting, guests can sip and sample clonet creations from
- 7:06Speaker 1: Elie's top chefs, mixologists, and taste makers as well as
- 7:10Speaker 1: other chef supporters. Then I conclude for all of the
- 7:13Speaker 1: guests that the after party hosted buy as you mentioned
- 7:15Speaker 1: at Duff Goldman and Michael Voltago, who's on with us
- 7:18Speaker 1: for an evening of sweet treats and special live musical
- 7:21Speaker 1: performances by artists Andre Day, Hopefully Warren g and DJ
- 7:26Speaker 1: Supernova and Andrea. The money that we raise at this event,
- 7:30Speaker 1: talk about where exactly the funds go.
- 7:33Speaker 2: It's just such an important question, just because I want
- 7:37Speaker 2: listeners to know that their support is truly making a
- 7:39Speaker 2: tangible difference. When you support Nook at Hungary, you're funding
- 7:43Speaker 2: real on the ground programs. One big focus is school breakfast,
- 7:48Speaker 2: something as simple as making sure that kids start a
- 7:50Speaker 2: day with a healthy meal, right. And just recently we
- 7:54Speaker 2: awarded over three hundred thousand dollars in new grants to
- 7:58Speaker 2: ten different school districts here in Kela, and that is
- 8:01Speaker 2: so they can expand and have strengthened their breakfast programs,
- 8:04Speaker 2: because we know that a hungry child cannot learned. Additionally,
- 8:09Speaker 2: summer's coming, and we know here specifically in the Inland
- 8:12Speaker 2: Empire in parts of La gets really really hot, so
- 8:15Speaker 2: It's one of our big focuses because it is the
- 8:17Speaker 2: hungriest time of the year for kids. So I'm not
- 8:20Speaker 2: sure if you guys were aware of that, but wanted
- 8:22Speaker 2: to point that out. Schools out and those regular meals disappear,
- 8:25Speaker 2: and that's what we've partner with school districts as well
- 8:28Speaker 2: to make sure that we are reaching those children in remote, remote.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Rural areas, and not only just for this amazing event
- 8:35Speaker 1: that we're hoping you're gonna buy tickets for and have
- 8:37Speaker 1: the best night ever, but also year round.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Right, how are we able to help year round?
- 8:41Speaker 1: Are you ever need to volunteers or just through donations
- 8:44Speaker 1: year round through the website.
- 8:45Speaker 2: No, I love this question because I think that it's
- 8:47Speaker 2: truly something for everyone. You don't have to We would
- 8:50Speaker 2: love to see there, but you don't have to attend
- 8:52Speaker 2: an event or write a big chech, although we would
- 8:55Speaker 2: always love that as well. But you can dine our
- 8:58Speaker 2: shop with brands that partner with the Get Hungry. That
- 9:01Speaker 2: alone helps fund our work. You can also share resources
- 9:04Speaker 2: in your community by spreading the word about a summer
- 9:07Speaker 2: meal site that is nearby or a school breakfast program
- 9:11Speaker 2: to a family that might need it, And most importantly,
- 9:14Speaker 2: you can also boye, use your voice and write a
- 9:17Speaker 2: letter to make a call to your local lawmakers, urging
- 9:19Speaker 2: them to protect programs and policies that we know work,
- 9:23Speaker 2: such as Snap also known in California as Scalt Fresh.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And again, we're kind of dangling this big, delicious carrot
- 9:29Speaker 1: for you to buy a ticket for this incredibly, big, fancy, fun,
- 9:33Speaker 1: amazing fundraiser indulging culinary creations and expertly crafted cocktails from
- 9:38Speaker 1: top culinary talents at the tasting and the after party
- 9:41Speaker 1: featuring DJ Supernova and a special libe performance by Andre
- 9:45Speaker 1: Day and maybe warreng g. I said, I saw his
- 9:48Speaker 1: name on the website, Michael at this year's night out
- 9:50Speaker 1: for No Kid Hungry. It's going to be an incredible night.
- 9:53Speaker 1: If you're able to buy a ticket, please do so.
- 9:55Speaker 1: No Kid Hungry dot org slash night Out and again
- 9:58Speaker 1: use the code join us to get twenty percent off and.
- 10:01Speaker 3: That gets your tickets into both events.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So the tasting and the after party, and Michael, what's
- 10:06Speaker 1: gonna happen to the after party after we've had all
- 10:07Speaker 1: the delicious food and the drinks and the after parties
- 10:10Speaker 1: is more of the music, vibe and then more eating,
- 10:12Speaker 1: more drinking.
- 10:13Speaker 3: What are we doing?
- 10:13Speaker 4: Oh? It will continue on. And I think that's what's
- 10:16Speaker 4: amazing about this. As as hard as Chef's work, you
- 10:20Speaker 4: get them all together in one place, they'll keep the
- 10:22Speaker 4: party going. So they'll be music, they'll be food and
- 10:26Speaker 4: just sort of again a chance for everyone to hang
- 10:29Speaker 4: out and sharing this amazing calls together and just celebrate
- 10:33Speaker 4: the fact that we are all together. We are doing
- 10:36Speaker 4: that to help. I can't stress that enough. I mean,
- 10:40Speaker 4: No Kid Hungry has so many activations throughout the year
- 10:42Speaker 4: as well. I mean I've participated in Chef's Cycle just
- 10:45Speaker 4: to name one of them, where I wrote three hundred
- 10:48Speaker 4: miles on a bicycle over the course of three days.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Good to work off this food exactly.
- 10:54Speaker 4: So there's many cool opportunities to get involved, but really
- 10:57Speaker 4: this one is for me one of the most exes
- 11:00Speaker 4: because it's a great introduction to the organization and it's
- 11:03Speaker 4: a great opportunity to come meet the chest and just
- 11:05Speaker 4: enjoy good food, good drinking, good music.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and good people.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Andrea Quaar, thank you so much
- 11:11Speaker 1: for all that you do for No Kid Hungry. And
- 11:13Speaker 1: Michael Voltagio, Michael, how do we find you on social
- 11:16Speaker 1: media and follow your restaurant stuff and TV stuff?
- 11:18Speaker 3: How do we follow you?
- 11:20Speaker 4: Pretty simple at Altazio on Instagram and I'll be definitely
- 11:25Speaker 4: there posting away that night as well if anyone doesn't
- 11:27Speaker 4: get a chance to show.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Up, m Voltagio v O lt a Ggio And where
- 11:32Speaker 1: can we catch you on TV?
- 11:34Speaker 4: Currently Bobby's Triple Threat on Food Network. We just finished
- 11:38Speaker 4: shooting I believe our fifth season.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Ah fantastic, and we'll get to meet you in person
- 11:43Speaker 1: and taste your food and just enjoy an incredible night again.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It's No Kid Hungry the Big Night Out event happening
- 11:49Speaker 1: in April eleventh, downtown Los Angeles.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Bring your appetite because you will need it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: No kid Hungry dot org slash night Out and use
- 11:56Speaker 1: the code join us twenty for twenty percent off and
- 11:58Speaker 1: have an incredible time all these amazing people and food
- 12:01Speaker 1: and drinks for a great cause. You guys, thank you
- 12:04Speaker 1: so much for time. We'll see you on the eleventh.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
