- Revisitation Rightspod: So cut that out. Cut that out. I got I got But no, ⁓ whatever I sent to him he wasn't able to get. So I don't know. All right. Dude, I got I got some wheels for ⁓ late for a belated birthday gift. Shout out Spitfire bros. I gotta ⁓ gotta get gotta get in the ⁓ the Halloween the Halloween spirit. Maybe I should turn my my lights. Pretty scary, huh? Alright, no more free promo. No more free promo. That that was it. Spitfire, you got lucky. Every other brand, send us that email, baby. Is that too dark? It's a little dark. Alright, so we are doing unfortunately, unfortunately, we're doing the Texas Chainsaw Massacre too. ⁓ whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy with that. Well you're in Brickle Miami right now and get whipped Mart ⁓ Lemma drop Martini, please. So I I think Brandon likes this one better than the first. Yeah, I do actually. ⁓ You're gonna you're gonna you're gonna have to explain yourself. You do? I was So I I don't so I I I think in my my write up I kind of try to condense it, but I feel that this would have been a better movie had it just been a standalone or they could have done something saying this person was inspired to kill people with chainsaws based off of the original Leatherface, but this fits into the time of like that nineteen eighties kind of cheesy slash slasher type of gory kind of horror movie. Like I love eighties horror. Like I can just sit there and watch those movies all the time. And this is perfectly wedged into that generation of what we got, that we're just incredibly bad, but I love those incredibly bad movies. Yeah, like one of my well like in my top ten, it's probably like Halloween H two O, you know. Don't don't don't So I'm I want to start the show off by saying I'm kidding, I'm sorry. Dennis Hopper deserved better. I don't know if he got a different script than everybody else, but he wasn't in the same movie as everybody else. Not probably was like, what the fuck, bro? What y'all got me doing? Dennis Hopper was he was in another world. The girl was good. I think that's when LSD was playing. Yeah, I mean the girl the girl who played stretch was good. ⁓ but That's about where it starts and ends. ⁓ I think it was a terrible creative decision to go campy cheesy after ending the first like that. ⁓ because the first really didn't give you anything much. Eighty six, right? Eighty f yeah, eighty five, eighty six, something like that. Something like that. When did when did the thirteenth come out? At least the original had like ⁓ like a grimy, like uncomfortable realism to that. ⁓ this one just kind of took whatever that was and turned it into this big loud cheesy cartoon. ⁓ I I get like, you know, wanting to do something different. You know, kind of the cover moving into moving into like the you know the 80s cheese or whatever, whatever it was. But it kind of killed everything that made the Texas Chainsaw Massacre interesting to begin with. Right? Because the family was creepy, very creepy, very unsettling in the first one. And the second one, they're just fucking clown shows. Like it's not Act one and Act Two. Absolutely nothing. Like he's dancing on a fucking pickup truck as he's slicing. It's I d I don't know. Like the so he became a parody of what Leatherface should have been in this movie. So I looked I just looked at yeah. ⁓ it came out in eighty six. So that also was around that time when Nightman Elm Street started to kinda go into like the goofy lane. ⁓ Friday thirteenth started to kinda go in that goofy lane. Halloween started to go in that goofy lane. So it did y all those franchises that had been around for a long time, they kinda started to really veer into some shit that just wasn't what made them what they were. And those were also all the worst movies of the series. They made ⁓ for high school seniors. Like it pack out the drive in theaters and shit. Yeah, after a nightmare on ⁓ Street promoting that's how it kinda went downhill. I think it kinda went downhill. Yeah, one, two, and three are amazing. I feel like it was four was okay. Four was okay. 'Cause it you know, it was kinda like a callback and then you know, it kinda transitioned into like that new set of them, of the the victims, and then it kinda got a little weird, you know, with the mom and ⁓ she was a nun and ⁓ you know, but Yeah, it it if it was right in line with all of those other franchises of that time where they started to really pivot to make these over the top just really goofy characters of themselves. Do you think the eighties is when directors and and like film producers. Do you think that is when they took a step back from like the super how do I say it? Not like artistic side, 'cause you know, every every aspect of it is artistic, but maybe I don't know, it just took a few steps back on things to make it more palatable for Yeah, for a general audience. No, because the fur the every all those franchises were amazing off of off the bat. I mean I didn't care for the original TCM, but it ⁓ for that time it was amazing for what it did in terms of just the inspiration and you know what it influenced. Or or or may or maybe I should say like mid eighties to like the nineties. I I I do think the eighties were one of the weakest decades for artistic cinema. I think it was kind of when in general. Okay. I I I do think it was kind of the time where the money really started being offered in abundance. So budgets were rot skyrocketing, like everything it started becoming more of a business, like a full fledged like 'cause before you had very artistic people who also knew that it was a business. So now it was the time where all right, VHS is really, really starting to boom. Boom, we're getting crazy amounts of money in VHS, you know. And then it kind of the artistic approach kind of took a back seat to where we ended up now where it's just strictly business. There's very little artistic flair. It's all technical flair, which there's a I I think there's a difference. But ⁓ I I do appreciate the the swing it took. This dot Texas Change Old Massacre too. It took a wild swing. It was a wild swing and a miss, but it was a wild swing. Like they they they committed to the to the campy comedy and start to finish they went with it. So I I think it takes balls to take a budget that big and be like, yo, let's fucking flip this shit. You know? ⁓ Whether whether we fail or whether we succeed, fuck it. Let's do it. That's so yeah that's so respectable. You can't you can't Knock that off, you know. I I a hundred percent appreciate that. They gave it more personality than the first the first one had no personality whatsoever. So at least this one had personality. ⁓ and the practical effects were pretty solid. I I like that. And the the set design in the sewer or dungeon, whatever the fuck you want to call it. I I thought that was creepy. I thought that was done well. But that that's about all the positive I could say. So not want to be there. Just looking at this really quickly, ⁓ the same d it was the same director for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but he also wrote the original one. He did not write this one. And he also helped produce the two thousand three remake. And the two thousand six he was also a producer and he was an executive for Texas Chainsaw three D and he was also an executive for Leatherface. Two thousand three were man. That could also just be legacy. Yeah. I can't wait till we do that episode for the the one. But he was still but You know, just to say he was it was the same director but a different writer. So influence was different in terms of the story because it wasn't his baby that he he made. Well, I mean he should have stopped in. He should have stepped in and been like, you know, what are we doing here? Maybe you know, maybe maybe maybe he trusted it. Maybe he was like maybe he was curious. Like let's let's see how let's see how it does. But I mean, you know I'm not even gonna defend him because Leatherface was dancing in the first one. He was very he he Leatherface was not scary. Like he he never he had fear, but he wasn't scary. Like at the end when he was chasing, he was half dancing with the fucking chainsaw. He's spinning around, he's doing all kinds of weird shit with the chainsaw. Like it it wasn't It looks like the the sign dies outside. Yeah, exactly. Like he wasn't scary. He was you know, and then now that you do the you play him comedy, you take away any fear that he's ever had. And then That's why I like the O three one so much, bro, because I was fucking scared as shit. I was like, Yo, this guy, who the fuck is this, bro? Michael Myers got a cousin now? You said in the Pat, you said in the the first when we did the first ⁓ original review that you were terrified as a kid. Was it just the thought of going through Texas and thinking about people that actually have the capacity to do that? Like what was it that scared you as a kid when you at first saw the original? It was half my sister. And half being in Texas. Texas. So yeah. So it was all right, we're she's you know, the whole ride down, she's putting this in my head. Like I think she planned it. Like to to watch the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in Texas in a hotel late at night. And you know, back then it wasn't like a hotel. Like, you know, we were staying at motels where you drive up right to the fucking door and like, you know, it's been anyone can anyone can kick that door open late at night. No, that's some device. So like I I know she was probably planning that since we left. So she's like, it's true story, you know, these kids. You know, she tells the story and she's like, but it's they made such a great movie. We'll we'll watch the movie. So like at this point already, I think it was like seven or eight, like I was already knee deep in horror. So it it you know wasn't whatever. But it was like Freddie, the fly, little shop of horrors, you know, shit that you don't really you don't think can happen. Like it's so far fetched that even as a kid, like you know it's not real. ⁓ but when you know, you when we started watching the in the in the hotel, like it's real people. Like it's real, everything is real, it's a family, it's you know, this, this and that. And this guy's wearing people's faces. So it's you know, it's extremely terrifying to an eight year old, you know, and when you're staying at this place. And then, you know, we're on a road trip. So, you know, we go to my sister's in Phoenix and then on the way back, she starts with part two. And I was like, I'm not watching it again. She's like, no, no, no, it's completely different. It's not this, then not that. She's like, and then we start on a road trip. Like, you know, it part two starts on a road trip, you know, with the two guys driving and and all that. And every car that pulled alongside of us, I'm just, I had a fucking blanket over me. I was scared after we after we left the hotel in Texas. Every car you were fucking fucking frightened. Like I had the thing over him just looking at every car that passes by. 'Cause it was, you know, it's it's it was to a kid something that could happen, you know, every day. ⁓ not every day, but something that can happen in real life. Obviously with Ed Geen, it did, you know, so to a point. But then like you're driving through Texas and this and you know, we grew up in an apartment. So, you know, there's sixteen floors in the apartment, fourteen, fifteen apartments on each floor. Like it it's jam packed. There's like five, six buildings in a complex. So That didn't seem in the realm of possibility. Cause you're on the open road. Yeah, now driving in Texas, that seemed like you see on the side of the road like crazy fucking houses, like all you know, not used to any of that. Like just one house in a random field, just far back. And it's like that that something's happening there. Like immediately, even to this day, like all like when we take road trips or something and you drive through like upstate New York. Like and you see some like real dilapidated houses along the road and everything, it's like fuck, something weird is going on in that fucking house. So even to this day it has me it has me like that. But especially like yo, my mom told me about the Poughkeepsie types, and then we had to visit family in Poughkeepsie, and I'm just like looking at all the properties and I'm like, No wonder. What the fuck? Who wants to live here, dude? Holy shit. I feel bad. If if you live in Poughkeepsie, you know, I'm sorry. I'll set up a GoFundMe. Poe Kipsy. Cause dude, we gotta get you out of there, man. You probably have a VHS tape in your basement, you don't even know. But you know what? Like that's that's that's for another day though. Part three. Part two kind of was different, right? Because obviously it was comedy, but it was a lot more gory. Yes. And it was it was also cheesy gory, like crazy blood splatter, like weird kind of like you know, cheap high school bar. Yeah. So it was kind of like that. Like so it didn't part two didn't really scare me like that when I was a kid, but the road trip aspect of it really put the fear of fucking God in me. Like I was scared with the road trip. But the other part of it, like, you know, this guy crawling down a sewer and all kinds of weird shit going on and then the fucking hell it's one big ad for a barbecue place. Like it's just fucking the grandma by herself and she's still alive, but she's like half she's ninety nine percent dead. And then grandpa and then gr she got that little thing in the neck. Which always freaked me out as a kid too. The fucking when they used to have the commercials on T V with the cigarettes. Yeah, the thing. Like what happens when you smoke cigarettes. You know, my mom used my mom used to smoke heavy. So ⁓ always that shit used to be like always in the back of my mind, like, ⁓ your mom, you're gonna be like this. And they used to do the voice. You know, so it I don't know, man. Part two just it was I what so I I remember one vividly. I've seen one numerous times. Two, I saw it when I was a kid and then I think I seen it one I think I remember start trying to start to watch the entire franchise. Maybe I don't want to say it was during COVID. It was probably when I you know what? No, no, no. It was when maybe like twenty ten, maybe. Twenty maybe two thousand nine. Maybe no, no, hold on. I'm trying to think back. It was probably two thousand seven. What When did the a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Was it seven, six? ⁓ three. ⁓ three and then O three and I think beginning was in O six. Okay, so it was O six. So when Freebo, I came out in O six. So when they announced a new one, I was like, you know what? I'm gonna I wanna see I'm gonna go and you know rent and watch, you know, each ⁓ of the Texas Chainswald Massacres. And that's where Netflix used to mail the DVDs to D V D was it Netflix already or was this the red bar? ⁓ no, it was Netflix. ⁓ Netflix. Because I remember Redbox being a thing before I think before Netflix. That I don't remember. Or was it or was it like or w I think they were at the same time. That I don't remember. And then ⁓ so I remember getting one, two, and three. And then I watched one, two, and three, and then I stopped. I was like, this is just stupid. I'm not watching anymore. I thought I saw four. I think we said I think we talked about it last week. I thought I saw four with Matthew McConaughey, but then I watched the trailer. I was like, nah, I didn't see this. I never saw it. And ⁓ I think Kate Hudson is in that one too. So I I do remember Vigo Mortensen. So I'm pretty sure that was three. ⁓ but yeah, like with this one it just and then Jason has like not Jason, Leatherface has a ⁓ so now he's comedic and he has a love interest. He fucking came in his pants while he the fucking chainsaw. I was like, nah. I was like it's just not Like it the fear of leather faces. Why is that with the script? Bro, I'm not shaking I'm not shaking in terror for someone who ejaculates in their pants prematurely, bro. Fucking sin. What are you doing? You you give me your give me your chainsaw, bro. You know what the fuck to do with your damn chainsaw. Who is we? ⁓ my gosh. I don't know. I feel like they did they they did leatherface dirty in this one. But again I I I feel that if it was just a standalone movie and not connected to the franchise, you don't think it would have been No, I didn't if it was just some random no, because the characters were bad. Like I didn't like any It was it was it doesn't really feel like it's it doesn't feel like it's really connected. So even the story doesn't really feel like it's connected as much to the original. No, like it's so I I remember two and three pretty ⁓ pretty well. But two like even the even the family, like there's a different family in every movie. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's different dynamic. You got grandpa who's still alive. He you know, whatever. But like they had the same joke, ⁓ grandpa, don't worry, he gets it done on one try, be you know, he's fucking missing again a hundred times. It just it just became so corny. And like I I understand cheese. Like, you know, you gotta give it a little leeway because it's in the eighties, it's this. But when part one is cons even if it's not everybody's, you know, thing, when part one is considered so iconic, and this is this is after it's become iconic, because it's twelve years later, ten years later, and you move to this, I I I just thought that was a very bad creative decision on producers part, studios parts. If Toby Hopper, he's the one that created the whole Texas Chainsaw Massacre leatherface thing. If for him to sign off on it, you know, it that kind of makes it even worse. Cause I mean, ⁓ we went over it last week. I don't I didn't particularly like part one as an adult. But I can appreciate what Fuck man, I got got water in my ear. I can appreciate what it did, you know, the impact it had on everything. But just just to go this far left and it just I don't I don't know. You can't play a slasher movie for laughs. Like you can't play the main villain for laughs. It never works out. Freddie didn't work out, Halloween didn't work out. It never works out. Cause this is this is the genre is h horror comedy and dark dark comedy slasher. And it's interesting because I was, you know, wh while you're talking, I was looking. It's like the same person who wrote this movie also wrote Paris Texas. Paris Texas, which is completely different. I mean, I know it's a very iconic movie, but It's a completely different it's a completely different movie than this. Yeah, I mean ⁓ as a writer, you should have a lot of range. No, I I I understand that. I'm just like, where did he kind of get there and then say, I want to do a dark comedy slasher and take it from what it originally was from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre? ⁓ you know what? I think this kind of maybe it was some kind of other movie and they just kind of slap Texas Chainsaw Massacre on it and changed a few things to make it a Texas Chainsaw Massacre. 'Cause it was kinda like, you know, maybe it was set around the radio station, like ⁓ how was that played again, Misty or something something like that. Maybe it was gonna be one of those type 'cause those were popular in the eighties also, like radio station murders and you know, horror like that. Maybe it was something like that. And they were like, All right, we need, you know, we're gonna capitalize on Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Let's kind of pigeonhole this into it. So kinda like the Joker, right? That felt like a different movie that they just kind of slapped Joker on two things on there, made it a Joker movie. Whoever made the shot list for Paris, Texas, yo. Yeah, it's it's regarded as a movie that every that every Cinephile should at least watch. ⁓ never seen it. But I had what no desire. What what what I was gonna say was the Just look at the stills. The I the stills are fucking fire, bro. They will go so viral on Instagram. The gap in time between the first and second kinda leads me to believe that there was something that was holding up the production because why would you wait twelve years from a movie that, you know, was so quote unquote iconic of that time to do a follow up sequel because ⁓ none none of none of the other none of the other slasher films that came out during that time period took that long of a, you know, a delay. Halloween two. Two or three years, right? Right. They so they were all kinda Churning them out pretty quickly. And then this one took like almost a decade and a half to come out. Do you think he didn't want to do a sequel? I don't I think it goes back to the original. I don't think any of these directors want to make their films into franchises. I think it's more so the studios that are pushing it. And then also I would love a franchise. But Carpenter did not want to do Halloween too. ⁓ it could be that gray area. There's some that do, some that don't. Some that don't enjoy, some that aren't. ⁓ What you call that did Nariman Home Street, he did not want to do a sequel. Who do But also you gotta think about it. As a as a you know, you don't always have that vision. You know, that's the studio's job. The studio's job is to see a potential further down the line of something. Where maximize it's if you're writing or directing or whatever it is, you're this is it. Like you're focused here on this one story. So it's kind of Yeah, what's craven? You know, it's ⁓ sorry guys. It's a little so that I I do give the studio props, but like that's their job. Like they they saw like all right, you know, Nightmare on Elm Street is a hit. We see the potential in going further. Like we wait so long. Do you think it gets lost in translation? Like what they're envisioning whatever sequel ⁓ you know, could possibly come out, or whatever they envision as a sequel versus Like let's say they they envisioned something a little more similar for the second one and then Yeah. I mean it could they they made a comedy and they were like That's my biggest question for this is why does it take so long? Why did it take so long for them to come and get follow up? Part three goes back to the darker feel of it, like the grittiness of it, you know, it it goes back to that. So two is the outlier. Yeah. So even even the cover of it, it looks like a like a play that you'll watch on Broadway. Yeah. What one one the one of the people in the family are like this? It's a like a bright colorful sort of What in the school photo are you doing, dude? It's it's kinda weird that, you know, one had like this artistic, gritty horror feel to it, you know. And then two was just comedy slasher. Like that that's all it was. And then three gets back to that darker, grittier. So two, the outlier in the middle, it's like that's what made me feel like he didn't want to do a sequel. Either he didn't want to or he wanted to make this sequel and the studio was like, No, no, no, no, no, I'm not, you know, I don't want to do that. And then they went back. 'Cause none of the other ones are campy like that, right? ⁓ so the newer ones aren't. ⁓ but three D kinda does lean into some campiness a little bit. So based off the poster of four where it's leatherface and a dress with some heels and a chainsaw. For the fourth one? Yeah. And just to clarify, it's not ⁓ Kate Hudson, it's Renee Zellregger and Okay. The fourth one. So again, I I haven't seen the fourth. I don't know if it's gonna be cheesy and campy like that. But when I was doing the artwork and everything, I saw the poster, I was like, ⁓ I'm stills. This is insane. I was like young thug yellow ⁓ leather face, bro. So it was kind of they've been a young thug leather face. So I'm not I'm not sure what the fra like If they did want this to make a franchise, they had opportunity after the first to make it a great franchise, you know, with a strong first, and then you had to come better with the second. Like dive into the family, dive into you know what made the first one so great, and then they just went completely left. And I'll let everyone know right now I am not taking that face seriously. I three wore that damn dress. I don't think you could take Leatherface seriously at all anymore. Nah the the the the remake? Yes. The O three one the O three one is nothing to fuck around with. The O three one went to the he went to he went to Gold's gym for like a he went to no, he went to Diamond Gym with ⁓ with I forgot what his name was, Unk. Went he chilled with Unk for a couple months, hit the weights, came back, he's like pfft he's like I'm I'm fucking killing all of you right now. He's like off of He's like, I'm off of all this test. He's like, I'm just oozing of testosterone right now. And I just want to murder people all day. You know? And I I feel like that was the one that I was eating that I'm exaggerating, but that was the one that I was like, fuck. Like, I'm, you know, if I was in this situation, I'd be scared of this particular leather face. And the other ones, I'm like, I feel like I could just fucking I could just hit hit I could just hit him with a crazy juke. And I'm like, I'm breaking his ankles and I'm dipping. I'm like, dude, you're not catching me, fat fuck. Give him a stiff arm and keep it moving. Yeah, bruh. Get the fuck out the way, bro. And just hit the dip. I'm fast, bro. Do you guys have any fat ass is not catching me? Sorry. Positives to this movie? ⁓ I know Brandon liked it, but the high the high school the high school crowd and younger audience crowd at that time gets to experience a horror movie and not have to ⁓ you know, they don't they don't need to carry piss drugs in their room because they're scared to go to the bathroom. You know. This is a movie where they can take their girlfriend out, their parents could be like, All right, you know, get home safe. Here's twenty five cents for your movie ticket. And you know, you get to enjoy like a horror movie, you know, you guys can get scared and can get shocked by the gore, but not like mentally tormented to where for example, like the Exorcist back in that day with Linda Blair, ⁓ people were not going to sleep at that time. They saw her head turn, they were like, No, I rebuke it and they couldn't go to sleep for like months apparently. People threw up and shit. So I I'm So it's more palatable to like a general audience. Curious why Brandon liked it. Because I love I love I got I got the eighty I got the cheesy eighties movie. Why are you calling this ⁓ like I got the cheese movie, you love it. But I I want to know like what did you actually like aside from that, like what was it about this movie that made you like it better than the first? Because the cinematography was not better. No, it wasn't. No, it wasn't. I did I did like the use of color and everything like that, but the cinematography was not better here. ⁓ I mean the acting is a wash on both. I I don't know what the fuck Dennis Hopper was doing, but ⁓ Yeah, I'm I'm just not sure. The killing, I think I think I do like some of the kills. I think they were kind of interesting and in and fun in a way. I know that sounds really demented, but is the Halloween episode and I'm a slashers are probably at the top for me in terms of horror, like you know, what type of horror movie I love. I wouldn't have said I wouldn't have thought that. Okay. I I would have gone elevated I would have gone elevator Halloween. I love Terrifier. I love Terrifier. I would have gone elevator. I mean Halloween. How ⁓ Michael Myers is probably my favorite Halloween film. Because you like that sad boy. But anything slasher. Anything slasher is is I love. The only film that actually still terrifies me that kind of makes me kind of queasy is ⁓ Wolf Creek. And that was also based on a true story. And it's Wolf Creek. I'm trying to think if I saw that. Is that the one where the girl gets stuck on the road? They're in Australia. No. And this guy, it's like a it's a guy who just is dip when did it come up? Well three This is in the two thousands. Two thousands. Yeah, yeah. I I saw that late at night and it took me like an hour or two to go back to to go to sleep. I was like, nah, I'm not going to sleep now. Like that's how terrifying I was. I don't see that the biggest actor and like seeing like his hair do. So maybe I've watched it like walking around the living room while somebody was watching it maybe. 'Cause I remember seeing that hairstyle. That hairstyle is kinda unforgettable. Yeah. So even even might be a thick ass Wolverine. So to be I watch a lot ⁓ 'cause they have a section of horror and they have like a section of eighty slasher horrors. So I'll just go and I've seen pretty much all those and I'll just watch those and their acting is bad, the story is Awful, but I'll just keep that on and I'll just keep it running all day while I'm working. But you know what you're getting yourself into when you're and it's an that on, yes. Yeah. So yeah, this like I I I don't expect it to be a great movie. It's just like this is what it is. So I've already lowered my expectations. So now that was my problem with this one. Like you saw one, so everybody going from one into two is expecting a drastic dip. A drastic dip in quality. Expecting something ⁓ Okay, you know you're not expecting the same movie, but you're expecting something along the line of part one and it comes to part two, which is completely different. Yeah. So that I can see I can see people being very disappointed going to the movie theater after seeing the first one and saying, What the fuck was that? Because when you go into like Shudder, you have Shudder? Mm-hmm. I don't, but I know the movies at Yeah. So they have their sections. Like they have some really great horror. Like a ri I like their originals. Their originals are really good. ⁓ but then you go, you dig deep and they they have some really good shit. And then you know when you're clicking something, you know what you're getting yourself into. Right. And like the same thing if you're watching like you look at the post like you go on Tubi or Amazon, whatever, you look at the cover art and you know it's gonna be some bullshit. You know what you're getting yourself into when you click that movie and watch it. Like what I what I watched recently. I watched Something with John Travolta in twenty twenty six. So I'm like he plays like a some kind of mobster. I I don't know what the fuck it was. I wound up shutting it off like twenty five minutes into it. But I knew I was in for some real like D movie bullshit. Yeah, but there like a plane, it was Miami, it was like a whole bunch of shit on the cover. And it was like a Call movie. Yeah, I was thinking it's like if it if you know, if you see a Steven Segal movie, you know you're gonna get a scene where he's like kissing the girl and he's cressing her body, but he's got his shirt fully on and she's naked. Like not everybody wants Not everybody wants their titties on it on the screen. But that but see that's that's another thing that hit me with Texas Chainsaw Massacre is usually horror in the eighties, especially that cheesy horror. Lot of nudity. Yeah, they didn't. They didn't. They didn't they kinda teased it. They teased it a little bit where Leatherface put his chainsaw to the girl in between her crotch, but that was that was all we got. Yeah. But like that should not come from ch ⁓ Leatherface. Like they should have they they should have it should have been somebody else. They could have easily had two two a couple making out in the car and then he just kinda comes and he just rips them apart. There could have been That would have been very easy. Something. But like for him to, you know fall in love with and help this girl try to escape and I don't know what the fuck they were thinking to be honest. And if I was his family, I'd be pissed. I'd be like, bro, you had one job. Like we gave you the chainsaw. The fuck are you doing? You're fucking up the program now, bro. Yeah. Now we don't now now now we don't got food for two weeks. Thanks, bro. The cannibalism theme is is constant. I I mean I haven't seen the third and the fourth one, but it's kind of constant in all of them where they are eating human people. Did you have you seen this part two before? I saw it, yeah. Yeah. I saw it on Tubi a couple years ago. Did you have you seen part two? First time? This was my first time. And did you guys see actu the the the first four, right? So the first four are kinda like their own, and then they see. I haven't seen three and four. Yeah, I haven't seen three and four. I haven't seen three and four, but every other one I've seen. I think I've seen three. So three starts out ⁓ like another road trip, I believe. and It turns into like a a survival horror a little bit. I mean, they're all trying to survive, obviously, in every single one of them, but they're out in the woods. What Resident Evil could have been. Should have been, actually. You know, so there's Vigo Mortenson is in there. He plays a he plays a bad guy. But it starts as the main thing is a gas station again. And it gets back to like the darker, grittier ⁓ movie, but the it just ⁓ That's why I don't know. Two just felt like such an outlier between one, two, and three. But I I haven't seen anything else, so it it might not be. And one of the things is which is ⁓ a little interesting is these are not easily accessible movies. Like I think two was on Tube, I believe, but one and two were four is not three and four are not like it's one of the quote unquote big whore franchises that it's not easy to go on like a major streaming network and just watch it. And it's weird because otherwise are what what What's today's date? Today's the twentieth. So we're right approaching Halloween. So you would think that all these would start popping up on you know, at least all nine available on streaming services somewhere. Yeah. Most ⁓ so and I I don't know who owns like the rights to 'cause I'm sure the the it it switches between this one and that series and this series. ⁓ I think it's a little different with the other Halloween's and Nightmare Ohm Streets where they kinda had a consistent s production company. Like I was just looking at the fourth one. The budget was six hundred thousand dollars. So ⁓ you know, it's not like they were giving it's not like they were given a ton of money to make that movie, and that was in ninety five when they were just throwing money away. What was the budget on two? ⁓ I would say you got Dennis Hopper, right? So I I would say it had to be like a million, two million maybe. Four point five, four point seven. Damn. Woo That goes back to me saying if you have a lot of money and you make a bad movie, it's your fault. And then it grossed around eight million. I mean that was straight off name. You know, that was the third one went down to two to two point five million. So they're giving them less money. They saw the second one, they were like, yo, in case you turn this into some comedic bullshit. And then the fourth got six hundred thousand. So it just went down from there. In the nineties? They got less money in the nineties? The first film was like 160,000. Second f then the second one was like four point seven. And then he said the third one was like two point five. ⁓ while you guys are looking what other what other movies did Toby Hopper make? Because to go from one to two, I don't particularly think I would trust him with another movie if I was a studio. He made the Funhouse, which I actually am a of. I'm not sure if seen that movie. Never saw it. Okay. ⁓ he did Poltergo Poltergeist. Poltergeist. Poltergeist wasn't the one. Yeah. Nineteen eighty two. Toolbox murders. I've never I've heard of the mortuary. I didn't know he did poltergeist. He did Jin twenty thirteen, Destiny Express. Eighty eighty two is before Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm talking about after part two. ⁓ after part two. Yes, so eight spontaneous combustion, eighty night terrors, ⁓ mangler, crocodile, toolbox murders, and then ⁓ five he did. Complex. Mortuary and then DGIN. Those are the ones that he directed. ⁓ he's listed for some other movies, but like writing and production credits and stuff. This is like a this is like a ⁓ So they didn't trust him with anything big. No. No. They were like, nah, you're gonna have to you know. But that's the thing, like if he don't I I honestly didn't realize he made poltergeist. So for somebody to make the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre Poltergeist and what else? There was one more in there that sounded ⁓ that was decent size. Man, if he ⁓ if he made if he made those two, bro, he won in life. That's it. He's chillin'. He could say he directed the poltergeist. So I would say looking at his filmography really quickly, to me, the fun house is his best movie. Well it's ⁓ old nineteen eighty two. It's ⁓ essentially this movie where this group of teens they decide to stay overnight in like a carnival, and then there's like a guy who's not mentally right, and then he ends up like killing a hooker, and then they s the teens see that he killed the hooker, and then the carnies like won't let them get away, so they start getting capped one by one. I gotta watch the trailer and see if I saw it. Shit. That's how I remember if I saw these I love that movie. Older movies. I love that movie though. That's not funny. I've seen that movie I've seen that movie maybe maybe five times. Five or six times. I'm getting old man. My brain my brain don't work the same. There used to be a Chinese spot in my old town. ⁓ they were called Funhouse. They were pretty good. They weren't the best. Was it Funhouse P H U N? No Regular Fun. Nineteen Eighty Well. No, no, no. The Chinese Place. ⁓ no, F U N. I would say that that'll be a like a funny play on, you know, fun pH. Yeah. That would be cool. They did that. But nah, it was regular regular fun mounts. It was pretty good. A lot of people would say it's the best, but it was not the real new who the ⁓ best Chinese spot was in that area. So what are what are the things that stand out about aside from the comedy part of it? What part of this movie did you not like? Honestly, bro, I know you can't judge anything even by the cover, but I saw the cover of this film, bro, and I was like, What is this play that I'm about to watch? What is this Broadway show that we'll be commencing today? I came here for villainous, murderous carnage on behalf of someone who wears his victims' faces. What is this, bro? The cover alone is it's you can't judge, you know, by the cover. Like I you know I do. Like we said before, but But like, I'm sorry, bro. I'm not someone someone who does that, you gonna try and eat me? I'm fucking you up, bro. I'm punching you in the face. And then that that that that your your your your freaking your gremlin, your six foot nine gremlin that you're sending out with a chainsaw, he runs too slow for me, bro. You guys eat you guys eat people, so your brains are deteriorating day by day. You cannot catch me, bro. I'm sorry. Like I I bro, I saw this cover, I'm like I was like, bro, I feel like I could put on boxing gloves and get in a fade with every single one of them and beat them one by one. Now be like, all you guys are my bitches now, bro. ⁓ no, man. You ain't never cake. There is a difference between being strong and being country strong. Yeah, country strong is no joke. Yeah, yeah. That shit is different. That shit is different. Farm strength is no joke. I gotta taste that, bro. I used to work construction. I don't know shit. Some med bags, two of them. Yeah, I I remember ⁓ what was it probably ninety ninety-two, maybe ninety-three. ⁓ we used to play ⁓ travel football. Well no, ninety fo ninety four. Those farm door bro those farm boys are strong, dude. We ⁓ we joined a tournament in ⁓ in Dallas. So, you know, we got to go to Dallas and play in the in the tournament. And you know, we're all from New York, like we're a New York-based team, so You know, we get to we get down there. The first the first team we play in the tournament, I think they were from Nebraska. We got our fucking asses. Whoop. Like these guy we're fourteen we're in the the thirteen, fourteen, fifteen age bracket. These guys were like six six, three hundred pounds. It's like they drove with their family here. Like it was just these kids were huge. That's when Nebraska was still good. They're eating premium grass fed beef. They were that's when they were still winning championships. Big non GMO the max, the most well as close to Amish food as you can get in terms of like quality. Like they're making fresh butter, dude. There's nothing w bad in that butter. Alright. So I would say ⁓ my my gripe would be that they should have used more of just like the environment of Texas. We didn't re we didn't get too much of that. We got the beginning, the chase scene, some of it was in the the radio station and then a big chunk was, you know, in there the layer. I feel they I felt they could have made Texas a character of itself, like in the story and they I don't feel like they utilized it. Because they this story could have technically been anywhere. Yeah. Yeah. Right? It was in a different part of Texas too. It was like northern Texas. I think so. As opposed to where it took place in the in the previous one. Right? 'Cause didn't they say it was like a hundred or something miles and ten years later kind of thing? Yeah. From where the original incidents from like They fucked around probably shot that's your immune collar fine or Nebraska. Actually we found a great cornfield and I don't know if Didn't I don't know. For me it didn't it didn't really ⁓ sucked bowls night. So good. It didn't be kidding. I'm kidding, I'm joking. I can already tell between two, three, and four, this would be the one that would return to over those other two. I think. But let me let me watch three and then I'll get back to you on that. I mean, off of my assumption, I feel like I would end up going that 'Cause I saw I looked I was looking at three and four. ⁓ and I feel like I would just end up going back to these two more than three and four. Maybe one more. ⁓ but I feel like like if I wanted to put on a movie and get like a g ⁓ you know, like my little cousin scared, but not too scared, I'll probably throw out number two. I thought you were gonna say get high and just, you know, look up. Yeah, no, we we don't we don't we don't do that. We don't do that. I I th if I remember correctly, I think three was the best between two, three, and four. If I remember correctly. I haven't seen three, so ⁓ I would think you're not on that one when I watch it. I hope ⁓ I hope it is. I f I'm pretty sure. Pretty sure that's the one where they ⁓ it's like a hitchhiker kind of thing and ⁓ they get into the woods. They get into like a car accident with this black guy. And he's like like a prepper, like strapped, ready to go to war. Come on, man. Why are we here? We shouldn't be in these movies. We shouldn't be in these movies at all. ⁓ I'm not gonna spoil it, but ⁓ Does he die? Don't think so. I don't remember. You didn't want to spoil me. You didn't want to spoil me. I didn't want to fly. And I was like and I was like, does Carl die? Does Carl die? Carl Carl didn't die. He didn't die. No, he didn't. Yeah, looks at you like he was a doctor. I'm sorry. I ⁓ I I don't remember, but I do I do remember he was alive towards the end. I don't remember if he died or not. I know he was the one that kind of helped out. When you when you see it, you'll know what I mean. But I don't remember if he died. But I know I do know he was there right at the end. And there's like net ⁓ I think that's what the second black person ever in T CN because we're non existent. We're definitely not in the remix outside of Trey Songs. He was in that one. I was about to say it wasn't Trey Songs. It's again it's in rural Texas. No, not that man in the back in the eighties. Not not like that. What you try to say? They weren't out in rural Texas. I got family out there probably in rural Texas somewhere. In the South Face now. Leather face ups the chainsaw. Trigger Not not in that part of Texas. No. Well it would it wouldn't have been safe. You you would have had to fight other things other than Leatherface. That would have been the least of your worries and concerns. I I don't think that part of Texas is safe for very many people of any Yeah. L Texas. That's ⁓ sorry, Texans. No, I actually I love Texas. ⁓ I really love Texas actually. I don't like it. ⁓ really. The air's too heavy for me. We got That'd be on my short list. It'd be on my short list to move if I were to leave New York. I think. Mm-hmm. We have better food. We have better barbecue than Texas. How about that? Who? What? Try to say that What's better barbecue? Nah, no way. In in in in where? J in the north? Yeah. No, I'm I'm I'm just I'm rage waiting on the Texans. Final thoughts. ⁓ so this actually might be a one that I actually might just put on just for the hell of it during ⁓ Really? October. That's disappointing. It's a pretty cool play. ⁓ unusual play. ⁓ but I enjoyed the play of Texas Shane Tell Masker too. Why would you go back to this one though? Because it's you know, it's it's it's something I can watch in the background and like not really pay ⁓ pay attention to and I can still multitask and do other things. There's so much better stuff you could do than Just for like sense but just for like senseless like killing and violence, I'm like, all right, this is something I could put kinda put on. Like if I step out for a second and come back, it's not like, ⁓ I need to go back and rewind it because I kinda already got the overall sense. of the story anyways. I don't know, man. Jason I not Jason. ⁓ Leatherface just he's just too too goofy in this movie. Like I can't I I don't think I would ever go back and watch this movie. Like there was a reason why I stopped at three last time. And I think two was the reason why I stopped at three. I think I didn't want to force myself into watch three after watching two and I think I forced myself to watch three and then I stopped. So so two was the film that gave you a zero tolerance policy for number three. Yeah, I think two is the one that kind of turned me off to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And that's two, I think, is the reason why I did not watch the remake either. And and we didn't even watch the remake. I really like Didn't even touch on ⁓ the cousin or the other family member who was way over the top goofy. They were all the whole movement. The whole fucking movie was goofy. The ending was goofy too, where she's just you know, with the chainsaw on the top of the she never existed. Everything was wrong with this movie. I I didn't want to take the whole hour to shit on it. So I let you guys kind of talk more. But I didn't shit on it. Everything was just No, I didn't want to spend the whole hour shitting on it. Like I tried to get the few things I thought were positive out of the way in the beginning. So I did not purposely shit on the whole movie the whole time. But it was a movie I will gladly never go back and watch again. If it comes on, I'm leaving the room. If it's on somewhere, I'm no, I'm just that's fair. That's fair. It's so bad. Like, I don't want to watch three now. Like the this series is gonna be a hard problem now, watching it. Well, after three and four, it gets better. So you say. All right. Actually, no, no, no. You know what? You know what? Fuck that. I put up Fucking CF Express card on that shit. No, you won't. No, you won't. Not with the prices now. They're not on sale this week. Hey, scared money don't make money. Scared money don't make money. Yo, you you gotta you gotta make that bet on like good on like Black Friday or something, bro. Scared money don't make money. Scared money don't make money. I'll get you a chip fancier CF Express. I will I will say that the two thousand three one is my like if I were to like if they like you need you can only pick one movie out of the year the entire franchise, I'm picking the two thousand three film. So now but the bar is like without a to me the bar is so low at this point. So one, let's say is like here. Two is like right I'm trying to frame it. So two is here. So it can only go up with three and then four could probably go back down because I don't know, I looked at that poster, it it's I don't know. I don't know about that one. Love who you love, that's all I'm gonna say. And yeah, those posters really threw me off. It did not give like it did not instill initial fear or any questionable fear that you might think might be in the film. You're just like, dude, that that's what that's why I was like making that dumb joke, like, ⁓ I I enjoyed this play. It looks like it looks like a ⁓ like a like a Broadway cover, you know? So I'm a I'm a big fan of packaging. So I I I like artwork. I like to you know, I like to see a good poster. I like to see a good, you know, D V D cover or BHS cover or streaming cover, whatever they do nowadays. Like I I like to see packaging that, you know, is good. So that that that's big on me. But I don't know. I I don't particularly see any movie in this series getting over a five for me. Damn. ⁓ I think four I mean one was probably the the closest to a five. I think it was just right below a five. and that's just seeing it as an adult. Like I kind of I I wanted to I think you'll like the ⁓ I think you'll like the O three and the O six one. Yeah, I really think I really think you'll like the two thousand three one. I could be wrong, but so far I like I I remember when I first watched that film. I remember I I was in I remember what the apartment looked like. Like I remember. I remember it vividly because I remember turning it was like one of those apartments where the where the kitchen was like right next to the door and the t you know, the living room is like right here. ⁓ you know, the main area. Then there's like a little hallway to like bedrooms, like the two bedrooms and then like the bathroom or whatever. And then the TV's here. And then you got the little like, you know, chill area by by the kitchen. ⁓ that has like little, you know, high seats. So I'm I'm I remember I was walking to the kitchen to grab food ⁓ because they offered me food and then I'm I stopped and I'm like watching this. I was like I was like what movie is this? They were like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And I was like, what is this about? And they were like, ⁓ it's like a a crazy guy with a mask where's like who wears like people's faces and and like chases around you know chases them around with chainsaws. Like bro, I remember when I first was introduced to that movie. The O three one in specific. You guys are hyping this up so much. If it's bad, I'm ⁓ shit. I'm gonna be so upset. You're not gonna like you're not gonna like three I'll listen, I'll be more upset than you are if I watch it again now and then I have a different opinion. Then I will be very upset because it's the second episode consecutively where I've been talking this up. So what'd you say, Brandon? ⁓ what? I don't think you I don't think you'll like three D. The Texas Chan style three D one. I'm not it was made for three D though, right? So it's gonna feel a little different. No, it's just the the story is a little clunky. Because I I I saw I sent the message, I sent the the timeline in the the group chat. So the timeline with all these movies are all fucked up. It's all f it's all over the place. It's like six different timelines, right? Five, six different timelines? I think it's three. Brandon, final thoughts on part two? It's ⁓ it's a good movie to watch. This Halloween in the background while you're doing other things. It's on Tubi. Damn. So you want people to Netflix this movie? Second screen. No. Are you doing your midterm papers? No. Damn. You want a second screen this movie? I I wouldn't I wouldn't recommend using a subscription service that you have to pay money to watch this though. I'll say that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Maybe rent it. You can rent it for like two bucks, maybe. Well it's on Tubi for free. So if anybody wants to go see it, you can watch it on Tubi for free. That's where I watched it. I'll watch it on Tubi. ⁓ I love Tubi actually. I don't I don't mind the ads. See, I I don't have any final thoughts. ⁓ honestly, like I I was mad watching this movie. You get mad about watching movies. I do, I do. You know why? I watch so much bullshit. We're su you're supporting art though at the end of the day, Pat. I am. So I like I do. I watch movies every day. So it's my ⁓ You I watch a movie a day. So it's kind of like I'm gonna come across more bad than good. Yeah. And especially the last last year and this year, like the begin this year was off it started off well and then it just took a fucking nosedive recently. ⁓ yeah, we're we're we're in a dead period for good movies, at least to the end of the year, I think. But like the there's a lot of small, like good movies that came out that like The the independent theater by me shut down. So now if I want to go see something small in the theater, I gotta travel for it. Like, you know, I gotta go I gotta go into Brooklyn or I gotta go into the city. And I I like to go like spur of the moment kind of thing. Like I don't like to to plan. Like today I was just I finished the gym early. I did I did my errands and stuff, and I was like I got a couple I got because I looked at the run times of what was playing. Like I wanted to see the movie with Ethan Hawke. ⁓ you know, it's like more of an artistic film. And I was like, ⁓ the runtime though. I was like, I don't have that much time. Like I got about two and a half hours to like start to finish to kill and get back home before I had shit to do. And I was like, you what? Resident Evil, I think it was like an hour and twenty five, hour and twenty eight minute run time. Very very tight cut. So I was like, you what? I was like, it's it's it fits my time frame perfectly. I was like, it's a short movie, I'll even be back home before I I need to be. So I I just went and saw it. So I'm more like spur of the moment. Like I'll go, you know, it's that's what's good about the ⁓ the unlimited. So I could pretty much, you know, if I feel like going, I have time, I'm just gonna go. Yeah. But I used to do it all the time to the independent theater that was near me. And then they shut down like a year and a half ago. They just reopened. But they reopened as like an art center with like two theaters and Spider Man was playing in one of them and some I was like, Yeah, there's no independent movie there. So like I used to go see like obscure movies. Like the shit you would see in like those artistic theaters in Brooklyn and the city, they were playing it out here. And there was like they used to have like one or there was like four theaters in it. And there was like one or two or five theater, five ⁓ rooms, theater rooms. And there was like one or two like mainstream movies to get, you know, people they gotta pay bills too. And then the rest of it were like, you know, independence. And I I saw so many independent movies there that weren't playing anywhere else. So That's what sucks. Like I wanna I wanted to see ⁓ I was just about to say the name of it. I I I can't I can't say the name of it. I worked on an independent film last year that came out this year recently. ⁓ you almost snitched on himself. I I did, I almost snitched on myself, which would have been very bad. I would have cut that out. But ⁓ it was in the theater for like two weeks and it was only playing at like it was playing in like one place in Brooklyn, one place in the city, one place out in White Plains, I believe. And I was just like, how the fuck? I was like, you know, I wound up going into the city to watch it, but wasn't happy about it. Like that would have been a film that was playing at that theater. Like I could have just it's fifteen minutes from my house. So that that I haven't seen a lot of independence lately because of that. Like it's you know, it's it's a fucking headache to get into the city nowadays. I'm gonna go see ⁓ the new Mahersha Ali I think next week when I get back. I s I sent you the thing where he's doing the the QA. I'm out, I'm out of town. Yeah, I forgot. Like that I was gonna I was gonna try to go to, but then I have I forgot I had the rehearsals for redacted. The pre light and all that. I didn't say the name. I had the pre light. I gotta go for pre lighting. So shout out to redacted. Damn, I can't believe I almost snitched on myself. Damn, you know how long I've been ghostwriting? I never almost snitched on myself. That just fucking almost flew out. Yeah. They quit. On that note, revisitation right podcast. I'm Pat. Let me cut this off before something happens. Brandon. I'm Justin.
