  Speaker 9: So we're looking at the Book of Acts, chapter seven.

  Speaker 9: This is a powerful book.

  Speaker 1: That we have.

  Speaker 9: Let me O, come up, blood, I understand, Amen, And

  Speaker 9: I'm more of a teacher tonight.

  Speaker 8: So i gonna need y'all to follow with me. Now,

  Speaker 9: Chapter seven, we have to backtrack a little bit. So
• 6:08
  Speaker 9: we gotta go and look at the background because our

  Speaker 9: brother Stephen steps on the scene. But let's take a
• 6:16
  Speaker 9: look at who Stephen is. So if we go to
• 6:23
  Speaker 9: chapter six, verse five, it gives us a little background
• 6:29
  Speaker 9: and it tells us some of the characteristics about our
• 6:34
  Speaker 9: brother Stephen. So since you can go ahead and read that,

  Speaker 9: and the.

  Speaker 11: Same please the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen a
• 6:42
  Speaker 11: man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and
• 6:45
  Speaker 11: Philip and Prochorus and Nikolore and Timon and Premenius and Nicholas,

  Speaker 11: a proselyte of Antioch.
• 6:56
  Speaker 9: Amen.

  Speaker 8: So we see we first hear about Stephen right here
• 7:02
  Speaker 8: where there was an issue in the early church, and
• 7:05
  Speaker 8: brother Jabrell he.

  Speaker 9: Touched on it. The apostles could not leave the ministry

  Speaker 9: to wait on tables. Right. So they said, give us
• 7:16
  Speaker 9: men that are faithful with good report that could take
• 7:21
  Speaker 9: this ministry for us, so that we can continue in
• 7:25
  Speaker 9: the word and in prayer.

  Speaker 8: Now, Stephen was the first person that was picked.
• 7:33
  Speaker 9: And one thing that.
• 7:34
  Speaker 8: Qualified was that he was full of faith.
• 7:37
  Speaker 9: Amen. This was a man that was full of faith,
• 7:42
  Speaker 9: and he was full of the Holy Spirit. Now I

  Speaker 9: want you to touch that away because we're gonna come
• 7:49
  Speaker 9: back to that a little later. And then same chapter,
• 7:54
  Speaker 9: chapter six, let's read verse eight, please.

  Speaker 11: And Steve and full of faith and power did great
• 8:03
  Speaker 11: wonders and miracles among the people.

  Speaker 9: Amen. Now this was a mighty man of God. Hallelujah.

  Speaker 9: He was full of faith. And they switched out Holy
• 8:14
  Speaker 9: Spirit for power in this verse, and it said that
• 8:20
  Speaker 9: he was doing miracles, signs and wonders. These miracles were
• 8:26
  Speaker 9: following this man. Then let's get.

  Speaker 8: Verse ten in the same chapter.
• 8:34
  Speaker 11: And they were not able to resist the wisdom and
• 8:36
  Speaker 11: the spirit by which he's faith.
• 8:39
  Speaker 8: Hallelujah.

  Speaker 9: Now this man was full of wisdom.
• 8:45
  Speaker 8: Now I've been taught that you're.
• 8:48
  Speaker 9: Not supposed to argue the scriptures, right, I mean, it's
• 8:52
  Speaker 9: really not a good idea to argue with someone over
• 8:56
  Speaker 9: the Bible and over the Word of God. But sometimes
• 9:00
  Speaker 9: there's gonna be disputes and debates. We saw in the
• 9:05
  Speaker 9: ministry of Jesus Christ himself, he was always confronted with
• 9:09
  Speaker 9: people that will try to catch him up in words.
• 9:13
  Speaker 9: They will try to debate, and they will try to
• 9:16
  Speaker 9: discredit his teaching. But if that opportunity, if we find
• 9:22
  Speaker 9: ourselves in this situation where we're disputing, the Holy Spirit
• 9:28
  Speaker 9: has wisdom that no one can resist. As we saw
• 9:35
  Speaker 9: that operating on this land, they could not. They couldn't
• 9:40
  Speaker 9: trip him up. He was disputing, They were trying to
• 9:46
  Speaker 9: stop him. They were trying to come against a lot
• 9:49
  Speaker 9: of the things that he was teaching.
• 9:51
  Speaker 8: But they could do nothing with him. And so let's
• 9:56
  Speaker 8: read verse eleven singh.
• 9:58
  Speaker 6: Chapter They suborned man, which said we have heard him.

  Speaker 11: Speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.
• 10:12
  Speaker 9: Amen.

  Speaker 8: And then let's read thirteen and fourteen and.

  Speaker 6: Set up false witnesses, which said, this man ceases not to.

  Speaker 11: Speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law,
• 10:24
  Speaker 11: for we have heard him say that this Jesus of
• 10:27
  Speaker 11: Nazareth will destroy this place and shall change the customs
• 10:32
  Speaker 11: which Moses delivered us hallelujah.
• 10:35
  Speaker 12: So they couldn't beat Stephen straight out. So what they
• 10:41
  Speaker 12: had to do is they had to secretly conspire against him.
• 10:47
  Speaker 12: They had to go and paycil people a couple of
• 10:50
  Speaker 12: months and say, you know what, accuse him of speaking
• 10:54
  Speaker 12: against Moses in the law in the Temple.
• 10:58
  Speaker 9: Amen. I would see the same spirit operating in Jezebel.
• 11:04
  Speaker 9: Back in First Kings chapter twenty one, when King Ahab
• 11:09
  Speaker 9: wanted this field. This field was so lustrious that he
• 11:14
  Speaker 9: was just luskying over this field. And he went to
• 11:18
  Speaker 9: the owner of this field. I can't remember his name
• 11:21
  Speaker 9: at the time. It's a great story. We're not gonna
• 11:24
  Speaker 9: read the whole story. But this righteous man said, no,
• 11:27
  Speaker 9: this field belongs to our family. I'm not going to
• 11:30
  Speaker 9: sell it to you. So this man walks away defeated.
• 11:35
  Speaker 9: He's over there down a fit and he's crying, and
• 11:39
  Speaker 9: so his wife, Jezebel, walks over to him and said,
• 11:42
  Speaker 9: what's wrong with you?
• 11:43
  Speaker 8: You are the king of Israel.
• 11:45
  Speaker 9: Why are you acting like this? And he told her
• 11:48
  Speaker 9: what was happening. I want this.
• 11:49
  Speaker 8: Field and this guy would not sell it to me.
• 11:52
  Speaker 13: So what she did was she also conspired against that man,
• 11:59
  Speaker 13: and she said, yeah, his name is.
• 12:05
  Speaker 10: Nay bop is out and pronounced it right. And he
• 12:09
  Speaker 10: set up to him, give me thy vineyard for money. Okay,
• 12:14
  Speaker 10: So that's when he made the proposal to buy the field.
• 12:19
  Speaker 10: But I'm going to get to where they actually accused him,
• 12:21
  Speaker 10: falsely accused him.
• 12:23
  Speaker 8: The same way these men did to Stephen.
• 12:27
  Speaker 9: They can inspired against him, and then they rose up
• 12:31
  Speaker 9: and he killed that man. They knew what they were doing.
• 12:35
  Speaker 9: They knew that by the penalty of death, if they
• 12:40
  Speaker 9: were the black feme against Moses in the law, that
• 12:44
  Speaker 9: sentence would be carried out. Amen. So in chapter seven,
• 12:52
  Speaker 9: verse one, Stephen has an opportunity to defend himself. Amen.
• 12:59
  Speaker 8: At least he had at that.
• 13:00
  Speaker 9: A lot of times we get accused and people lying
• 13:03
  Speaker 9: in us, and we don't even get a chance to
• 13:05
  Speaker 9: defend ourselves. Amen.

  Speaker 8: So Steven has an opportunity to defend himself.
• 13:12
  Speaker 14: And the accusation that they brought against him wasn't entirely alive, right,
• 13:22
  Speaker 14: because Jesus didn't come to change the customs.
• 13:27
  Speaker 8: Jesus came to change everything. He came to fulfill the law.
• 13:31
  Speaker 9: So they really.
• 13:32
  Speaker 8: Misunderstood the message.
• 13:35
  Speaker 9: Hallelujah, Yes sir, Yes sir, And anybody's behind it pulling him.
• 13:44
  Speaker 1: Know, if I'm sitting here, I'm gonna have something to
• 13:46
  Speaker 1: say if we start to go. Jesus never kept to
• 13:49
  Speaker 1: change customs.
• 13:50
  Speaker 9: And then.
• 13:53
  Speaker 1: He said I didn't come to even take away the law.
• 13:56
  Speaker 1: I came to fulfill it.
• 13:58
  Speaker 9: Yes.
• 13:59
  Speaker 1: In other words, what people we're doing.
• 14:00
  Speaker 15: Going to the temple and all that, he never changed
• 14:02
  Speaker 15: up any of that, right, And so I want to
• 14:04
  Speaker 15: make sure that as we are giving instruction and direction
• 14:08
  Speaker 15: to God's people, that we are that we are accurate
• 14:11
  Speaker 15: in what we're saying, right, and again, this is part
• 14:15
  Speaker 15: of our growth factor. The other thing I want to
• 14:17
  Speaker 15: touch on is that when you said he took out
• 14:20
  Speaker 15: the Holy Spirit for power, the words were changed, but
• 14:22
  Speaker 15: it's the same thing, and I want to make sure
• 14:25
  Speaker 15: that we clear on that that it wasn't something different.
• 14:30
  Speaker 1: And I want to make sure that we understand that
• 14:34
  Speaker 1: there's a different.
• 14:35
  Speaker 15: Attack that Jezebel put on a man with the vineyard
• 14:39
  Speaker 15: versus a man of God. The attack is different because
• 14:44
  Speaker 15: this is not going to cost him a vineyard. It's
• 14:47
  Speaker 15: going to cost him his life, both of them dying
• 14:50
  Speaker 15: the story, but the Bible doesn't speak about the owner
• 14:55
  Speaker 15: of the vineyard being a man of God. And then
• 14:58
  Speaker 15: Jeesubel all of a sudden wants him, you know, his
• 15:00
  Speaker 15: his vineyard because it has something to do with ministry
• 15:03
  Speaker 15: or church.
• 15:04
  Speaker 3: Amen, you know.
• 15:05
  Speaker 1: And so let's let's.
• 15:09
  Speaker 15: One of the things that ticked off the Pharisees and
• 15:12
  Speaker 15: Sadducees is that Jesus would say stuff like the law
• 15:19
  Speaker 15: and Moses gave it to gave.
• 15:21
  Speaker 16: You, I wrote it, I created Abraham. But that's what
• 15:27
  Speaker 16: they called him, you know.
• 15:28
  Speaker 15: And so I want to make sure because here here's
• 15:32
  Speaker 15: the thing that that we need to get in this
• 15:34
  Speaker 15: day and time, is that it's a lot going on
• 15:38
  Speaker 15: in our world, right and we can be busy trying
• 15:43
  Speaker 15: to change the customs, or we can introduce people to Christ.
• 15:47
  Speaker 1: And you don't have to change customs. That's not of God.
• 15:51
  Speaker 1: People would change as God changed them.
• 15:53
  Speaker 9: Amen.
• 15:54
  Speaker 1: Amen for this time, Amen.
• 15:57
  Speaker 9: Thank you passed into that input. And yes, a change
• 16:01
  Speaker 9: heart is the true miracle. Amen, hallelujah. And so Stephen
• 16:08
  Speaker 9: has a chance to defend himself, and so he addresses
• 16:15
  Speaker 9: these accusations. And you have to also realize that the
• 16:19
  Speaker 9: Jewish people of the day. They took pride in their
• 16:24
  Speaker 9: fathers right. They took pride in the fact that they
• 16:28
  Speaker 9: were the descendants of Abraham, because even John the Baptist
• 16:33
  Speaker 9: told them that God is able to raise up stones
• 16:37
  Speaker 9: to become children of Abraham. Amen.
• 16:41
  Speaker 8: But they had a distorted view of that.
• 16:44
  Speaker 9: That was like, they really romanticize the fact that they
• 16:48
  Speaker 9: were the descendants of Abraham.
• 16:51
  Speaker 8: And so, in order to confront something.
• 16:55
  Speaker 9: You have to start with the truth. Amen. The enemy
• 16:59
  Speaker 9: is able to bring deception in our hearts if we
• 17:03
  Speaker 9: allowed to. And the only thing that can combat that
• 17:08
  Speaker 9: is the truth of God's word. And so Stephen here
• 17:13
  Speaker 9: he starts, and he starts with Abraham in verse chapter seven,
• 17:19
  Speaker 9: verse two through eight.
• 17:21
  Speaker 1: Can you read that?
• 17:23
  Speaker 6: And he said, man, brethren and fathers, hearken.
• 17:26
  Speaker 8: The God of Glory.
• 17:27
  Speaker 11: Appeared unto our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia,
• 17:31
  Speaker 11: before he dwelt in Charin, and said unto him, get
• 17:35
  Speaker 11: THEE out of thy country and from thy kindred, and
• 17:39
  Speaker 11: come into the land which I shall show THEE.
• 17:42
  Speaker 6: Then came he out of the land of Chaldeans and
• 17:45
  Speaker 6: duoke in Charin.
• 17:46
  Speaker 11: And from thence, when his father was dead, he removed
• 17:50
  Speaker 11: him into this land wherein he now dwelt, and he
• 17:54
  Speaker 11: gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much
• 17:58
  Speaker 11: as to set his foot on.

  Speaker 6: Yet he promised that he would give it to him

  Speaker 11: Possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet
• 18:09
  Speaker 11: he had no child. And God spake on the wise

  Speaker 11: that his seed should sojourn in a strange land, and

  Speaker 11: that they should bring them into bondage and entreat them

  Speaker 11: evil for a hundred years, and the nation to whom
• 18:23
  Speaker 11: they shall be in bondage while I judge, said God.

  Speaker 11: And after that shall they come forth and serve me
• 18:30
  Speaker 11: in this place. And he gave him the covenant of circumcision.

  Speaker 11: And so Abraham begat Isaac and circumcised him the eighth
• 18:39
  Speaker 11: the day, and Isaac begat Jacob, and Jacob begat the
• 18:43
  Speaker 11: twelve patriarchs.
• 18:46
  Speaker 9: Amen, hallelujah. So he starts right at the foundation. He
• 18:50
  Speaker 9: starts with father Abraham. And this is a great testimony
• 18:56
  Speaker 9: of his life. Abraham is the one who entered the
• 19:01
  Speaker 9: covenant with God. Abraham was the one that believed God
• 19:07
  Speaker 9: against all odds. Amen. When he was an older man
• 19:13
  Speaker 9: and the womb of his wife was considered dead, he
• 19:17
  Speaker 9: still joyce and trusted God that they would have the
• 19:21
  Speaker 9: promised child. Amen.
• 19:24
  Speaker 8: So then he jumps to Joseph if he can get
• 19:28
  Speaker 8: verse nine, please, And the.
• 19:30
  Speaker 6: Patriarchs moved with envy sol Joseph into Egypt.
• 19:34
  Speaker 9: But God was with him, hallelujah.
• 19:37
  Speaker 8: So there is the king in the army right there.
• 19:40
  Speaker 9: When it comes to their fathers, their fathers moved enviously
• 19:46
  Speaker 9: against Joseph, and we know that Joseph was chosen by God, hallelujah.
• 19:54
  Speaker 9: Joseph was having dreams, and he even dreamed that they
• 19:58
  Speaker 9: all had these stocks. I believe stocks that hey, or
• 20:05
  Speaker 9: you know, I can't think exactly what it was, but
• 20:08
  Speaker 9: they all had these stocks, and their stocks bowed down
• 20:12
  Speaker 9: to his stock. And Joseph was like the youngest, right
• 20:16
  Speaker 9: one of the young He was like the run of
• 20:18
  Speaker 9: the family. And his brothers were bitter. They rebelled against
• 20:23
  Speaker 9: that vision. They were angry to the point where they
• 20:26
  Speaker 9: were willing to kill him, but it was the older
• 20:30
  Speaker 9: brother rubing and then stopped him. So then they actually
• 20:34
  Speaker 9: sold them to Egypt. But it says that God was
• 20:39
  Speaker 9: with them, So this starts the pattern of their fathers.
• 20:48
  Speaker 9: Let's go ahead and look at Moses. So he starts
• 20:52
  Speaker 9: with Joseph, and he goes to Moses. If he could
• 20:56
  Speaker 9: read seven verse twenty through twenty two, in which sign.

  Speaker 11: Moses was born and was exceeding fair and nursed up
• 21:06
  Speaker 11: in his father's house three months. And when he was
• 21:09
  Speaker 11: cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up and nourished him
• 21:12
  Speaker 11: for her own son.
• 21:14
  Speaker 9: And Moses was.
• 21:15
  Speaker 11: Learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was
• 21:17
  Speaker 11: mighty in.
• 21:18
  Speaker 6: Words in deeds.

  Speaker 8: Amen.

  Speaker 9: So Moses was well pleasing to God. Now Moses was
• 21:26
  Speaker 9: God's chosen leader for this generation. And if we can
• 21:30
  Speaker 9: read verse twenty four, and.

  Speaker 11: Seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him and
• 21:39
  Speaker 11: avenged him that was oppressed and smote the Egyptian.
• 21:42
  Speaker 9: Now Moses knew that he was chosen by God to
• 21:46
  Speaker 9: deliver the nation of Israel.
• 21:49
  Speaker 8: He felt it in his heart. He knew that he
• 21:52
  Speaker 8: had this calling in his life. And so when he
• 21:56
  Speaker 8: saw one.
• 21:56
  Speaker 9: Of the Egyptians mistreating in Israelite, he rose up and
• 22:00
  Speaker 9: he killed that Egyptian.
• 22:03
  Speaker 8: Now I don't know what Moses's plan.
• 22:05
  Speaker 9: Was, if he was gonna kill them one by one,
• 22:08
  Speaker 9: but you know God's plan was to drown everybody in
• 22:10
  Speaker 9: the sea. Amen. God had a better plan for their deliverance, hallelujah.
• 22:17
  Speaker 9: And so let's read verse twenty five.
• 22:21
  Speaker 6: For he supposed his brother.
• 22:23
  Speaker 11: Would have understood how that God by his hand would
• 22:27
  Speaker 11: deliver them.
• 22:28
  Speaker 6: But they understood not.
• 22:30
  Speaker 8: Now, they did not understand this action. They kind of
• 22:34
  Speaker 8: missed it.
• 22:35
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 22:36
