- 0:09Speaker 1: Hi, this is Scott Wilson.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I played Herschel Green on The Walking Dead, and this
- 0:14Speaker 2: is Movie Meltdown. Stay tuned.
- 0:24Speaker 3: It's showtime.
- 0:24Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:27Speaker 2: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:32Speaker 2: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:09Speaker 4: I trust you're familiar with our royal etiquette, so you
- 1:11Speaker 4: must not shake Her Majesty's hand, but you may curtsy.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Curtsy?
- 1:25Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian, and
- 1:27Speaker 1: joining me once again, back from the bushes.
- 1:30Speaker 3: John. John? John.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Are you John?
- 1:32Speaker 3: John today.
- 1:33Speaker 1: This week you're John. We'll go with John.
- 1:34Speaker 3: We're going with John.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Hopefully you were listening to last time. This is a
- 1:38Speaker 1: continuation of our ramblings from last episode. So if not,
- 1:42Speaker 1: go back and listen to that last episode. But we
- 1:45Speaker 1: are once again coming to you live from... Dragon Con. No,
- 1:48Speaker 1: we're not. We wandered away. This is a Dragon Con
- 1:52Speaker 1: wrap-up episode. Don't you worry. We're going to get to that.
- 1:55Speaker 1: But before then, we've wandered away from Dragon Con. It
- 2:01Speaker 1: was very loud. We were trying to find some place
- 2:03Speaker 1: peaceful and overrun with creepy bugs, which you can kind
- 2:07Speaker 1: of hear in the background. But as you listen to that,
- 2:11Speaker 1: where are we listening to?
- 2:12Speaker 3: We are in Atlanta, Georgia at Piedmont Park.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Piedmont Park. Overlooking this lovely... What is that building? I've
- 2:20Speaker 1: been enjoying it for the last day and a half.
- 2:22Speaker 3: You're right. I've lived here all my life. That is
- 2:26Speaker 3: called the Pointy Pyramid Building.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It's got a nice arts and crafts shower to it.
- 2:31Speaker 1: The top.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I think that's 100%. It's made out of popsicle sticks.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Ah, it did kind of look like that. I wondered.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And now we've been hanging out here so long it's
- 2:43Speaker 1: gotten dark and it's lit up. So it looks lovely
- 2:46Speaker 1: in the Atlanta skyline here.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 2:49Speaker 1: So yeah, it's been really cool hanging out in general,
- 2:54Speaker 1: but now we're getting a nice like, you know, Hanging
- 2:56Speaker 1: out at the park vibe and looking out at the
- 2:59Speaker 1: city skyline. I've taken a few pictures, so if you
- 3:02Speaker 1: jump on the Facebook feed, possibly even Twitter, I don't know.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'll see if I can post a few of our
- 3:08Speaker 1: wonderful recording landscape here. It's been fun. And is about
- 3:14Speaker 1: to keep on rolling because we've got many more stories,
- 3:18Speaker 1: lots more geeky things to get to. So we'll steer
- 3:24Speaker 1: away for just a moment here. We'll take a quick
- 3:26Speaker 1: break and come back knee deep back into our geeky conversations.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And after that, if you hang in there just a
- 3:34Speaker 1: little longer past our geeky ramblings, special guest star. That
- 3:38Speaker 1: if you were paying attention when you looked at the
- 3:41Speaker 1: download and the text as it came up on your
- 3:44Speaker 1: listening device, you probably know who it is. But if not,
- 3:47Speaker 1: it's your own fault. I'm not going to spoil it
- 3:49Speaker 1: for you now. So you just hang in there in
- 3:51Speaker 1: suspense and we'll get to it very soon. We'll be back.
- 3:54Speaker 6: We'll be back.
- 4:23Speaker 7: You need more coffee?
- 4:24Speaker 4: Why?
- 4:25Speaker 7: Where would you go to get more coffee?
- 4:27Speaker 8: Why?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Heine Brothers?
- 4:28Speaker 1: Do you need more coffee? I do! Where would I
- 4:32Speaker 1: get some?
- 4:33Speaker 7: Perhaps from our house that has Heine Brothers. You probably
- 4:36Speaker 7: got it like in a bag.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I did!

- 5:33Speaker 4: all its own.
- 5:34Speaker 9: And our coffee has something extra, the care with which
- 5:37Speaker 9: we brew and serve it.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Settle back now, content, comfortable, well-fed, and ready for some
- 5:42Speaker 4: fine entertainment.
- 5:44Speaker 9: Is everybody happy?
- 5:45Speaker 4: Then let's go!
- 5:48Speaker 10: It's showtime. It's showtime.
- 6:23Speaker 3: They give... There's usually every generation has like the token
- 6:26Speaker 3: weirdo that they let them make the weirdo movies. There's
- 6:30Speaker 3: room for one. There's enough room for one David Lynch
- 6:33Speaker 3: out there. Or there's like this guy, this Gaspar Noé character.
- 6:37Speaker 3: You know, we'll let him... Be the representative of the
- 6:43Speaker 3: incomprehensible weirdo.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, the artsy crowd. The art house needs to fill
- 6:48Speaker 1: some seats, too.
- 6:50Speaker 3: There's enough of an audience for us to have one
- 6:52Speaker 3: or two of those guys.
- 6:53Speaker 1: We want to at least have a little prestige to
- 6:56Speaker 1: our studio when we're making these explosion movies over here.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Right, right, right.
- 7:00Speaker 1: We need to also have this. We'll be like, well,
- 7:01Speaker 1: we also made this.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Right.
- 7:03Speaker 1: We backed this.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Right, right. Lynch, though, I mean, he had like... I mean...
- 7:09Speaker 3: Until he got that Showtime deal to bring back Twin
- 7:11Speaker 3: Peaks' most popular thing.
- 7:13Speaker 8: You know.
- 7:14Speaker 3: You know, I mean, he was shooting out, he was
- 7:16Speaker 3: going out shooting, like, web, he was like a YouTuber
- 7:19Speaker 3: I mean he was like doing shooting and I think he'd.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Be happy like that you know his like Barbie doll
- 7:24Speaker 1: head commercials and like you just let him like run
- 7:27Speaker 1: with an idea and he's gonna do it David Lynch
- 7:29Speaker 1: style and like it's gonna be weird and if he
- 7:32Speaker 1: gets to do what he wants he'll be happy like
- 7:34Speaker 1: I don't think he even cares where it ends up
- 7:35Speaker 1: if it's on YouTube if people see it good enough
- 7:38Speaker 1: like I think he'll be fine with that.
- 7:40Speaker 3: It's the making yeah it was I wanted to make
- 7:44Speaker 3: it I needed to make it I made it whatever
- 7:46Speaker 3: you know I don't think he sits and deconstructs his
- 7:50Speaker 3: work like that. It's like I've got I had this
- 7:53Speaker 3: image and, you know, you listen to interviews with him.
- 7:56Speaker 3: He's like all into this transcendental meditation.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 3: I mean, I don't even think he's I mean, I
- 8:01Speaker 3: think he's like in this like like meditative fugue state
- 8:05Speaker 3: when he's putting this together. And, uh, you know, it's like, uh,
- 8:09Speaker 3: you know, he doesn't deconstruct it. He goes like, uh, my,
- 8:11Speaker 3: my subconscious knows how this all connects in a way.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And so, you know, you know, um, I don't think he's,
- 8:18Speaker 3: he's worried about it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Probably not. Also, David Lynch doesn't seem to worry about
- 8:24Speaker 1: a lot of things that normal people would worry about. Like,
- 8:28Speaker 1: He is of his own mind and his own realm,
- 8:32Speaker 1: kind of. A different plane of existence than we're on.
- 8:35Speaker 3: So, like, yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I don't think he worries about a lot of stuff
- 8:37Speaker 1: that normal people worry about.
- 8:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And now he's just like this guy. He's like a...
- 8:41Speaker 3: You know, he's probably in his 70s, too, and he's
- 8:43Speaker 3: just sitting there, like, staring at a painting of, like,
- 8:45Speaker 3: you know, feces dripping down on some face, and he's
- 8:48Speaker 3: just sitting there. He stares at it, and he smokes
- 8:50Speaker 3: his cigarettes, and he's staring at it, and then occasionally
- 8:53Speaker 3: he'll pick up something, he'll slap something on it, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 3: and now he's got, like, a whole documentary crew of
- 8:58Speaker 3: French filmmakers filming him.
- 9:00Speaker 1: He's obviously an artist. Look at him. Look at that.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 9:05Speaker 3: And now he's got, like, his second family, so now
- 9:07Speaker 3: he's got, like, a six-year-old running around, you know, and stuff.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I mean, it's just, like, It's just like, holy cow. Anyway,
- 9:13Speaker 3: but these guys, you know, you give them, you know,
- 9:19Speaker 3: endless budget and they make Dune and then you go like, oh, no.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But even then, he didn't get to make what he
- 9:26Speaker 1: wanted to make. It's nothing but if you let him
- 9:29Speaker 1: make the movie he wanted to make and gave him
- 9:31Speaker 1: enough money to back it, it would have been amazing.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It still might not have been what people wanted. It
- 9:37Speaker 1: certainly wouldn't have been the representation of the book that
- 9:39Speaker 1: the fans wanted. But it would have been amazing to
- 9:42Speaker 1: see what he envisioned and to have it actually come
- 9:45Speaker 1: together as the way that you would let... Same thing, like,
- 9:49Speaker 1: can you imagine what Return of the Jedi would have
- 9:51Speaker 1: turned out like had you just given him free reign?
- 9:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Like, being like, George, you just go sit over there.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:57Speaker 1: You've given him your plot ideas.
- 9:59Speaker 11: Right.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Now let's... him direct this movie what a mess that
- 10:03Speaker 1: would have been but i would like in a parallel
- 10:05Speaker 1: universe i want to see it right i don't know
- 10:07Speaker 1: that i want it in the middle of my normal
- 10:09Speaker 1: star wars trilogy yeah.
- 10:10Speaker 3: You think brian johnson got some shit yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Really let david lynch go to town right.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Right I don't know, the second they pulled out Luke's
- 10:17Speaker 3: heart plug, you know, it's a little different. Yeah, I
- 10:22Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know, guys. You know, we're trying
- 10:25Speaker 3: to sell cheeseburgers here. Yeah, this is not going to
- 10:27Speaker 3: do it. We got a McDonald's Happy Meal tie-in.
- 10:30Speaker 1: This is not going to make the kids happy.
- 10:32Speaker 11: No, no.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:35Speaker 3: I don't know, man.
- 10:36Speaker 5: But.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Well, I think.
- 10:41Speaker 1: In all this craziness, we should probably address what has
- 10:45Speaker 1: brought us here this weekend.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Let's do that.
- 10:48Speaker 1: So I've heard about this convention for many, many years.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:55Speaker 1: You're a little more schooled in it in the old days.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Sure.
- 10:58Speaker 1: But it was a different experience today when you got there.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I've, I've been here for like a day and a
- 11:06Speaker 1: half and then we finally met up and it's, it's
- 11:09Speaker 1: a lot to deal with. Would you say?
- 11:11Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 1: It is grown exponentially. Like I was standing there yesterday
- 11:18Speaker 1: with one of the guys that was there at the
- 11:20Speaker 1: press thing that we'll get to in a little bit.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And he was going on about like, he'd been covering
- 11:24Speaker 1: it for like 17 years and he's like that first
- 11:26Speaker 1: year and he rattled off like this, you know, 17,000
- 11:30Speaker 1: people or 30,000 people. And then like how every year
- 11:33Speaker 1: it got bigger and bigger and it's 75,000 people. And like,
- 11:37Speaker 1: it's just a ridiculous amount of people crammed into one
- 11:40Speaker 1: space at one time. And yet like, it's amazing how
- 11:46Speaker 1: like the, the geek love in these buildings, like that,
- 11:50Speaker 1: that is the thing I'm sitting there today and I'm
- 11:52Speaker 1: just watching it. And like, I probably got a dopey
- 11:55Speaker 1: grin on my face because I'm watching like an inlet.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I'm sitting next to the escalator.
- 11:59Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And there's just a never ending stream. Yeah. Of people
- 12:03Speaker 1: in goofy costumes and wearing dorky t-shirts like myself.
- 12:07Speaker 11: Right.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And like every, I mean, it's just, I'm so in
- 12:09Speaker 1: my element, even when we're with a bunch of people that,
- 12:13Speaker 1: cause we, we, we kind of touched on that as
- 12:16Speaker 1: we were talking to her, like all these different avenues
- 12:18Speaker 1: and everybody's into so many different things.
- 12:20Speaker 13: Right.
- 12:20Speaker 1: And I'm like, I may not know what your weird, uh,
- 12:24Speaker 1: anime thing is i may not know what your weird
- 12:26Speaker 1: video game tie-in is but i'm like we're all.
- 12:28Speaker 14: Still of the same ilk like we're the same geek
- 12:32Speaker 14: club that like there's just a passion about being into
- 12:37Speaker 14: these pop culture things.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So much so that it is crazy the amount of people.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And again, surprisingly, everybody seemed to get along. It's just
- 12:48Speaker 1: for that many people crammed in one place and not
- 12:50Speaker 1: kill each other. It's funny how much people were just...
- 12:54Speaker 1: yeah hanging out and like i saw the people next
- 12:57Speaker 1: to me like they never met each other and they
- 12:59Speaker 1: were just like they made some comment about the costume
- 13:01Speaker 1: and then like 10 minute like conversation came up and
- 13:04Speaker 1: they were just just geeks hanging out and it was
- 13:07Speaker 1: like it was really kind of impressive to see because
- 13:10Speaker 1: i'm so used to people just being angry and like
- 13:13Speaker 1: nobody wants to again like there is the other side
- 13:16Speaker 1: as we said sure to take This many socially awkward
- 13:19Speaker 1: people that don't know how to interact with people and
- 13:22Speaker 1: cram them in a tight space.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It also could go horribly wrong. Sure. But there are
- 13:26Speaker 1: so many moments when I'm just impressed by how much
- 13:30Speaker 1: like geek love there is that like we all kind
- 13:32Speaker 1: of get that we're into stuff, even if it's different things,
- 13:35Speaker 1: into stuff the same amount and with the same, you know, passion.
- 13:40Speaker 1: And we just to all show up and be part
- 13:44Speaker 1: of that is pretty impressive. And there was... A lot
- 13:47Speaker 1: of people there.
- 13:48Speaker 3: No, there is definitely this feeling of, you know, love
- 13:56Speaker 3: amongst everybody. You can just start up these weird conversations,
- 13:59Speaker 3: and then, you know, if you speak the same geek language,
- 14:02Speaker 3: it will go off, and you're like, oh, man. You know,
- 14:04Speaker 3: it's almost like, well, for me, growing up, uh, as,
- 14:12Speaker 3: you know, back when being a geek was like, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 3: basically like being a leper, you know, uh, yeah, yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 3: you know, I mean, this was not the, uh, it
- 14:23Speaker 3: was not, it's not the cool kids club.
- 14:25Speaker 1: This was not, this was.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Not, you were not the, uh, uh beloved yeah you
- 14:30Speaker 3: are not you or you did not have other people
- 14:32Speaker 3: sharing your or not.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Even not even the norm like that's the thing now
- 14:35Speaker 1: it's not even like it makes you cool to be
- 14:37Speaker 1: into this stuff it's just the norm like everybody is
- 14:40Speaker 1: into these pop culture things and to some extent it
- 14:43Speaker 1: seems like kids have gotten a little more tolerant again
- 14:45Speaker 1: i'm kind of basing it on just like you know
- 14:48Speaker 1: the weird lives that my nieces and nephews are going
- 14:51Speaker 1: through so i'm trying to kind of pin that down
- 14:53Speaker 1: and you're kind of seeing it with your kids. So
- 14:55Speaker 1: you've got a firsthand window into this little world that
- 14:58Speaker 1: they're dealing with. But it seems like people are at
- 15:01Speaker 1: least growing up. There's at least a surface level of
- 15:04Speaker 1: people be more accepting towards people being into whatever they're into,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you know, where we definitely didn't have that.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Definitely not. Definitely not. So you went to a convention
- 15:13Speaker 3: because that was the one place you could find other
- 15:15Speaker 3: people that, that would like, you know what, you know,
- 15:18Speaker 3: you didn't have to, it was like a safe place.
- 15:20Speaker 3: It was a safe space. You know, back before there
- 15:22Speaker 3: were safe spaces, that was your safe space. And you're
- 15:25Speaker 3: going like, okay, I can relax. I can, I can,
- 15:28Speaker 3: I can.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I'm in my element.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Right, right, right. I can have a conversation about escape
- 15:33Speaker 3: from New York and it not like, you know, clear
- 15:36Speaker 3: the room, you know. What are you talking about? Right, right, right, right.
- 15:40Speaker 3: You know, you could, you could geek out.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Snakes are stupid.
- 15:42Speaker 9: Right.
- 15:43Speaker 1: What are you, a reptile kid?
- 15:44Speaker 3: Right, right. It's like, you could geek out. And, and
- 15:47Speaker 3: it was like, ah, I can't get all this garbage.
- 15:51Speaker 3: crap in my head out and I can talk to
- 15:53Speaker 3: somebody else that also has this crap in their head
- 15:57Speaker 3: you know and we gotta like bond over that and
- 15:59Speaker 3: it's like so beautiful and everything la la la la
- 16:01Speaker 3: la la you know and uh peace and love and
- 16:04Speaker 3: stuff like that you know and you know But, you know, now,
- 16:08Speaker 3: you know, you know, I don't know. I guess people
- 16:10Speaker 3: now just walk around. They talk about dragons all day. And,
- 16:13Speaker 3: you know, I mean, you know, Game of Thrones is
- 16:15Speaker 3: a national phenomenon. And, you know, I mean, I don't
- 16:18Speaker 3: even watch Game of Thrones.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I don't. Well, here's the thing. I don't. But my
- 16:23Speaker 1: dad does.
- 16:24Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 16:24Speaker 1: My dad's not into anything. Yeah. Like anything and certainly
- 16:28Speaker 1: not anything that's the kind of weird fantasy world or
- 16:31Speaker 1: like sci-fi. He doesn't care about that kind of stuff.
- 16:33Speaker 1: But yet, like. he knows all about Iron Man, you know,
- 16:37Speaker 1: he like that stuff is crossed over so much that like,
- 16:41Speaker 1: even like people that aren't into that kind of stuff
- 16:43Speaker 1: are kind of into it because it's so immersed in
- 16:46Speaker 1: the pop culture now.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Yep.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Yep. It's just a weird world. Like it's become so
- 16:52Speaker 1: mainstream and acceptable because I guess because it became financially bankable,
- 16:57Speaker 1: you know, it's like, when when zombies make a ton
- 16:59Speaker 1: of money when superheroes make a ton of money like
- 17:01Speaker 1: it changes the game.
- 17:02Speaker 3: And you go like well what as was in middle
- 17:05Speaker 3: school was everybody just pretending to hate this shit.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I don't think so i didn't get that vibe i
- 17:10Speaker 1: mean it was pretty genuine.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I mean sports yeah yeah yeah yeah i mean it
- 17:15Speaker 3: was just like that was it and you know i
- 17:17Speaker 3: mean it was just like i was like well now
- 17:19Speaker 3: these people that you know used to make fun of
- 17:21Speaker 3: me in high school are now like like i'm toe-to-toe
- 17:24Speaker 3: with them. And so I was like, no, you did
- 17:26Speaker 3: not pay your dues in high school to be here.
- 17:30Speaker 1: See, this is just the ranting old man. Oh, I know.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I know.
- 17:34Speaker 1: That we knew was coming. We've discussed it.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I mean, you had a well, you were beloved and,
- 17:39Speaker 3: you know, had an active social life throughout your formative years,
- 17:44Speaker 3: you know?
- 17:45Speaker 1: Meanwhile, I acted out interactions with my Star Wars figures
- 17:49Speaker 1: and this is my weekend. You know, this is what
- 17:53Speaker 1: I did.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. This was just, you know, I
- 17:56Speaker 3: guess it was just like, I don't know. When you
- 17:59Speaker 3: have a certain base level of social anxiety and neurosis,
- 18:05Speaker 3: you know, human interaction can be kind of painful to
- 18:09Speaker 3: get through. It is. And so you retreat into a
- 18:11Speaker 3: fantasy world and you retreat into these like made up
- 18:15Speaker 3: stories because what we were saying, maybe like the these
- 18:19Speaker 3: stories that you're into, you're so much more into them
- 18:22Speaker 3: because that's what you, that's your interaction. That's how you
- 18:25Speaker 3: relate emotionally to the world. And because you don't have
- 18:29Speaker 3: interpersonal relationships to interact, it's like, you know, it was
- 18:33Speaker 3: like going, you know, it's like when you're in this
- 18:35Speaker 3: vacuum and you're just, you know, you have a rich
- 18:38Speaker 3: inner life, you know, and you have this rich, imagine
- 18:41Speaker 3: it's like when, you know, if like, cause you're, yeah,
- 18:44Speaker 3: I guess it's like, if you had like If you had, like,
- 18:46Speaker 3: a girlfriend and, like, you know, fulfilling interpersonal relationships.
- 18:53Speaker 1: You probably.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I don't know if you would allow, there wouldn't be
- 18:56Speaker 3: all that space to get that deep into shit.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, would you be that immersed in whatever Captain Kirk
- 19:01Speaker 1: was doing?
- 19:02Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Or would you just be like, hey, my girlfriend's coming
- 19:04Speaker 1: over tonight. Yeah, right, right.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I've got to put that aside.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Who cares? I'm turning off the TV. Like, so, yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I mean, it might have, but maybe not because that's
- 19:12Speaker 1: the thing. I look at this next wave and even
- 19:15Speaker 1: the next couple of waves because now we're looking at
- 19:17Speaker 1: kids that are like, in their 20s and grew up
- 19:19Speaker 1: kind of in a different version of that plus the
- 19:22Speaker 1: kids coming up that are even younger than that and
- 19:24Speaker 1: the thing is they have almost found a balance because
- 19:27Speaker 1: they are some of them are still socially awkward obviously
- 19:30Speaker 1: I saw many of them today but at the same
- 19:32Speaker 1: time I'm like there are some that are pretty well
- 19:34Speaker 1: adjusted but but have also been so like attached to
- 19:39Speaker 1: this that the geek runs so deep.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And like, I was in line sitting there waiting to
- 19:44Speaker 1: go to a Q and a yesterday. And like, there's
- 19:46Speaker 1: a girl in front of us that just started talking and,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and like, just like seemed super normal and probably is
- 19:53Speaker 1: like somebody that you work next to, you know, that you're,
- 19:56Speaker 1: you're kind of like, if you don't get into those conversations,
- 19:58Speaker 1: you'd never know.
- 19:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:59Speaker 1: But, After, like, a few minutes, like, she reaches into
- 20:02Speaker 1: her bag and pulls out this book. And it is
- 20:04Speaker 1: just a big, giant book of nothing but photos of
- 20:09Speaker 1: her with everybody. Like, she is so immersed in, like,
- 20:12Speaker 1: the convention scene. Yeah. And, like, super supernatural. Like, she
- 20:16Speaker 1: was so deep into supernatural.
- 20:18Speaker 6: Right.
- 20:18Speaker 1: She was into, like, the Harry Potter stuff. Like, she
- 20:22Speaker 1: just went into all these geek avenues. But I'm like,
- 20:24Speaker 1: she wasn't weird and socially awkward.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:26Speaker 1: She was a pretty well-adjusted girl and was just as
- 20:29Speaker 1: much of a fan as the ones that are super
- 20:32Speaker 1: geeks about it, you know? So it's like, I think
- 20:34Speaker 1: it's gotten so immersed in the culture now that there
- 20:37Speaker 1: are people coming up that are, normal in quotes but
- 20:41Speaker 1: at the same time are equally as committed and as
- 20:44Speaker 1: big of fans but they know how to again they
- 20:47Speaker 1: almost have the knack to be able to control themselves
- 20:51Speaker 1: and like to not unleash it on people that don't
- 20:53Speaker 1: care but after you talk for a few minutes and
- 20:55Speaker 1: they realize oh you're into stuff too then they like
- 20:58Speaker 1: kind of bust out this geek knowledge and you're like
- 21:00Speaker 1: oh no you're not just here for the hell of
- 21:03Speaker 1: it like you most of your life has been like
- 21:06Speaker 1: watching these movies watching these TV shows like you're legitimately
- 21:10Speaker 1: into this stuff, and it's not a game.
- 21:12Speaker 3: It's not an act, it's not a poser.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really what you are into, and I feel
- 21:17Speaker 1: like that's something that's different. Like, there was no in-between
- 21:21Speaker 1: normal level growing up, you know? It was just like,
- 21:24Speaker 1: you were a geek, or you were, like, not interested
- 21:27Speaker 1: in that at all.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Like, there was just.
- 21:30Speaker 1: star wars was probably the most casual you got like
- 21:33Speaker 1: some normal kids would be wearing a star wars shirt
- 21:35Speaker 1: or something like they would kind of you know oh
- 21:37Speaker 1: yeah i got some of the toys when i was
- 21:38Speaker 1: a kid but like that was the most crossover there
- 21:41Speaker 1: probably ever was right and other than that like anything
- 21:44Speaker 1: else like if you're a kid that's into jules verne
- 21:47Speaker 1: you know what you're the only one in your class
- 21:49Speaker 1: into it and like you're gonna geek out and you're
- 21:51Speaker 1: gonna talk about that stuff and nobody's gonna talk to
- 21:53Speaker 1: you and you're a dork Whereas now I feel like
- 21:56Speaker 1: there's probably a literary club happening at a school somewhere
- 22:00Speaker 1: and you're one of 10 kids that shows up to
- 22:02Speaker 1: that club. And like, you're like, there's a, there's just
- 22:05Speaker 1: so much more acceptance of that.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:07Speaker 1: And it doesn't seem so freakish now. It really is
- 22:10Speaker 1: like you, because it's so normal for everybody to be
- 22:13Speaker 1: immersed in pop culture because it's taken over our society
- 22:17Speaker 1: that like, I feel like these kids are, are, Kind
- 22:20Speaker 1: of getting a more, you know, a shot at a
- 22:22Speaker 1: real life, you know, that we maybe didn't have.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:25Speaker 1: So I kind of like love that that's going on. Like,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm bitter. I'm still an angry old man. Don't worry.
- 22:31Speaker 6: Sure.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But I'm trying to be hopeful, bitter old man, because
- 22:34Speaker 1: I'm like, there's a chance for kids coming up to
- 22:38Speaker 1: actually like not have that and to be like. happy
- 22:42Speaker 1: to be a geek and to find friends that are
- 22:44Speaker 1: also geeks. Yeah, it's beautiful. Yeah, I kind of have hope,
- 22:48Speaker 1: you know, as I look at all these dorky kids
- 22:50Speaker 1: running around in costume. I'm just like, these are a
- 22:53Speaker 1: lot of people. This can't be the fringe anymore. Look
- 22:56Speaker 1: at the numbers. Like, this is normal life for all
- 23:00Speaker 1: of these people. And, like, they're taking over. Like, they
- 23:03Speaker 1: are the whole next wave of society. They're the person...
- 23:06Speaker 1: like approving your loan at the bank.
- 23:08Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 23:08Speaker 1: You know, it's like, they're the next wave of people
- 23:11Speaker 1: running the society and they are watching game of Thrones
- 23:14Speaker 1: every night. And they're wearing a, an Avengers outfit when
- 23:16Speaker 1: they go to comic-con. So it's like, you know, it's like,
- 23:19Speaker 1: this is what people do. And yeah, it's changed so much.
- 23:23Speaker 1: And it's, I don't know. I guess I'm processing it.
- 23:25Speaker 1: There's an upside to it, but yeah.
- 23:27Speaker 3: No, it's beautiful, and it's great, and finally I got
- 23:30Speaker 3: what I wanted. Everybody likes what I like now, so wonderful.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And yet, geeks everywhere will be bitter.
- 23:36Speaker 3: And angry and shake their fist on the internet. I
- 23:39Speaker 3: don't know how to be happy, obviously. I'm just like Mr. Naysayer.
- 23:45Speaker 3: But no, I see it, and I go like, thank God,
- 23:48Speaker 3: you know. whatever my kids are into, they're not going
- 23:51Speaker 3: to be like, you know, ostracized for or whatever. It's
- 23:54Speaker 3: a beautiful thing and they're going to, you know, it's
- 23:56Speaker 3: just like, but you know, you know, I'm just used
- 23:59Speaker 3: to being hiding in the crawl space, you know.
- 24:02Speaker 1: You can still do that.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, sure.
- 24:04Speaker 1: They'll just know where to find you. They'll come knock
- 24:06Speaker 1: on the wall and be like, Dad, we're going out
- 24:08Speaker 1: for a while.
- 24:08Speaker 3: It's fine, it's fine. It's kind of like, I mean,
- 24:11Speaker 3: it's just like music, insufferable music fans are going like, yeah,
- 24:14Speaker 3: you know, you know, I liked them before they were popular,
- 24:17Speaker 3: you know, like whatever, you know, that's fine. It was
- 24:20Speaker 3: kind of like, oh, It was like, you like Star Wars? Well,
- 24:22Speaker 3: now there's going to be a Star Wars movie every
- 24:25Speaker 3: day for the rest of your life.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Now there's a TV show on its own network designed
- 24:29Speaker 1: around Star Wars. Aren't you happy?
- 24:31Speaker 3: Aren't you happy there's just going to be Star Wars everywhere?
- 24:34Speaker 1: It just gives me more to complain about. That's just
- 24:37Speaker 1: what fans do.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Right, right. It's going like, well, yeah, if you ask
- 24:42Speaker 3: my 12-year-old self, you know, what would be the ideal situation?
- 24:48Speaker 3: It's probably Dragon Con. And it's probably with the numbers
- 24:52Speaker 3: and the amount of product going out now with like, oh,
- 24:55Speaker 3: a Star Wars TV show that isn't like an Ewok cartoon,
- 24:59Speaker 3: you know? I mean, you know, how lucky, what a
- 25:02Speaker 3: wonderful world. Oh, you like George Romero zombie movies? There's
- 25:05Speaker 3: going to be 500 hours of a George Romero zombie
- 25:09Speaker 3: movie that never ends. A TV show that's going.
- 25:11Speaker 1: To go for years and years and years. It's kind
- 25:15Speaker 1: of living in that Romero world, but it's its own
- 25:18Speaker 1: spin on it. It probably has a weird tie to Atlanta. Anyway,
- 25:23Speaker 1: we're going.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, sure. Yeah, yeah. But, you know. And then like, oh,
- 25:29Speaker 3: you like that little Evil Dead movie? Well, what if
- 25:31Speaker 3: there's like a weekly TV show of Evil Dead every day?
- 25:36Speaker 1: Until we pull the funding and it gets cancelled But.
- 25:40Speaker 3: You know Now we can reboot it And now we
- 25:44Speaker 3: can just keep going Now you can have it forever
- 25:47Speaker 3: Forever You can have it forever Why aren't you happy?
- 25:51Speaker 3: Are you talking to yourself now? Why can't I be happy?
- 25:55Speaker 3: Why can't I be happy that everything I like now
- 25:57Speaker 3: Is now everywhere And there's more than I could ever
- 26:00Speaker 3: possibly consume In every direction And I go like I
- 26:07Speaker 3: go like, I don't know. I guess it's just kind
- 26:09Speaker 3: of like you're just drowning in it.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I think that's a generational thing too. Again, in our
- 26:15Speaker 1: ramblings earlier today, I touched on that. We just came
- 26:19Speaker 1: from such a focused old school generation that like, We
- 26:23Speaker 1: sat down in front of the TV and we watched
- 26:25Speaker 1: our Star Trek or we watched whatever, you know, our dumb.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I watched my Planet of the Apes TV show.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Right, right, right.
- 26:31Speaker 1: And like I that was what was on and that's
- 26:33Speaker 1: what I paid attention to. Like that was the only thing.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Kids that have been immersed in Internet and the TV
- 26:40Speaker 1: the way it is and streaming the way they like,
- 26:43Speaker 1: they already are just busy. born to multitask and they're
- 26:46Speaker 1: born to like the second screen experience is like a
- 26:49Speaker 1: normal thing.
- 26:50Speaker 12: Right.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Now there's two or three. We'll have like, uh, the, the,
- 26:53Speaker 1: the YouTube plan and a TV going in the background
- 26:56Speaker 1: and the radio's on and like, they're, they're just so
- 26:58Speaker 1: immersed in so many different types of media and they
- 27:01Speaker 1: pick up on it. Again, kids are smart, smarter than
- 27:04Speaker 1: we were. So like, they're just, they pick up on
- 27:06Speaker 1: that stuff so fast and they like, have adjusted to
- 27:10Speaker 1: that world because they didn't know anything any different. So
- 27:13Speaker 1: we're just kind of straddling the generations looking at it
- 27:16Speaker 1: going like, I don't understand. There's too many things. I
- 27:19Speaker 1: can't do it. Whereas I don't think, I don't hear
- 27:22Speaker 1: that coming from them. They're not saying, they're on the
- 27:24Speaker 1: other end. I'm listening to my nephew go, there's just
- 27:27Speaker 1: not anything else to watch on Netflix. I'm like, wait,
- 27:31Speaker 1: how many series have you gone through? Like he's watched
- 27:34Speaker 1: like weird old 90s sitcoms. And I'm just like, really?
- 27:37Speaker 1: You're watching this now? But he's marathoned through them and
- 27:39Speaker 1: he's done with them already and he wants something else.
- 27:41Speaker 1: And like that's something that like we didn't have to
- 27:44Speaker 1: worry about as a kid. You know, it's like we
- 27:46Speaker 1: were lucky to get an hour a week with our
- 27:48Speaker 1: favorite show. And like they're just knocking out like seasons
- 27:51Speaker 1: worth in a couple of days.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 1: And again, it's just the difference in the generations and
- 27:57Speaker 1: the way that they process everything.
- 27:59Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Again, I don't understand it. I just try to
- 28:05Speaker 1: watch it and commentate on it and try to figure
- 28:08Speaker 1: out where it's going, but I don't... Again, I'm on
- 28:11Speaker 1: the other side of that wall. I'm straddling, looking from
- 28:14Speaker 1: a distance as it moves further and further into the future.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I don't fully understand it, but I'm trying to at
- 28:20Speaker 1: least kind of be open-minded. I don't know. Yeah.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Yeah no you're being very positive about it it's.
- 28:27Speaker 1: It's unusual especially you know going out on the internet
- 28:29Speaker 1: yeah i'm poisoning the internet with some sort of upbeat attitude.
- 28:33Speaker 3: And you know here's the thing i mean i'm going
- 28:35Speaker 3: like uh i guess i guess i'm going like where
- 28:38Speaker 3: does where does creativity fit in all this because i
- 28:40Speaker 3: go like my kids are pretty creative and everything but
- 28:43Speaker 3: i go like i go like you got to give
- 28:45Speaker 3: yourself a chance to be bored you know you got
- 28:48Speaker 3: to give your chance of this downtime this uninteracting unconsuming
- 28:55Speaker 3: i've definitely.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Heard this story and yeah right that's when we became
- 29:01Speaker 1: super creative as kids as we were bored and like
- 29:03Speaker 1: well what do i do like i don't have anything
- 29:05Speaker 1: i'm gonna scribble on this piece of paper and start
- 29:07Speaker 1: drawing monsters right what i would do right and like
- 29:09Speaker 1: and then i came up with all these weird creative
- 29:12Speaker 1: monsters and like i'm like But, again, I think it's
- 29:16Speaker 1: just that's the only way we knew to process things.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:19Speaker 1: When you're immersed in that 24-7, like, again, they're probably
- 29:23Speaker 1: streaming that. And on the side, on their light pin,
- 29:27Speaker 1: on their super, super futuristic sci-fi screen, they're drawing out
- 29:31Speaker 1: the same monster that I came up with 20, 50,
- 29:33Speaker 1: 100 years ago.
- 29:35Speaker 3: It's just different. It's just different. The emphasis for me
- 29:38Speaker 3: to be creative. was to give myself something that I
- 29:43Speaker 3: could relate to that I was interested in. But I mean... uh,
- 29:46Speaker 3: it seems like they're like barraged by stuff that's interesting
- 29:50Speaker 3: and their niche into their very interest. And so why
- 29:55Speaker 3: would you, why? I mean, and then you've got like
- 29:57Speaker 3: this connection with like a hundred other people that are
- 29:59Speaker 3: into the exact same thing.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So why?
- 30:01Speaker 3: I mean, you're already fulfilled, right? I mean, you're fulfilled.
- 30:03Speaker 3: There's a niche out there already fulfilling that.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Damn it, I'm angry that my children are fulfilled. I know.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I know, right?
- 30:09Speaker 3: Well, you know, how are they going to ever find
- 30:11Speaker 3: their own voice if they're always eating, eating, eating? Consuming.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom. But at the same time,
- 30:19Speaker 1: there's also like a freedom to how easy it is
- 30:22Speaker 1: to do that. Like if they have even the inkling
- 30:26Speaker 1: of like, oh, I want to put something out there.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You grab your phone.
- 30:29Speaker 11: Right.
- 30:29Speaker 1: And within a few minutes, you've made a video and
- 30:31Speaker 1: you've immediately uploaded it to YouTube if you want.
- 30:33Speaker 11: Right.
- 30:33Speaker 1: And you're done.
- 30:33Speaker 3: And you got immediate feedback.
- 30:34Speaker 1: And you've already got... And yeah, you're immediately connected to
- 30:37Speaker 1: the people that are already your friends and you're already
- 30:38Speaker 1: getting feedback.
- 30:39Speaker 11: Right.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Good or bad. Whatever the internet throws at you.
- 30:42Speaker 12: Right.
- 30:42Speaker 11: But.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Again, think back to when we were kids. If you
- 30:46Speaker 1: were like, I want to make a movie. You got
- 30:48Speaker 1: your Super 8 camera and I'm building dinosaurs out of
- 30:51Speaker 1: clay and trying to do stop motion, which didn't work
- 30:53Speaker 1: all that great. And I was terrible at feeding the
- 30:57Speaker 1: film into the projector. It was a fight. But think
- 31:00Speaker 1: how hard that was that stopped so many kids that
- 31:03Speaker 1: got like me. That was like, I don't know how to...
- 31:05Speaker 1: make my, my stop motion transformers movie, which I did
- 31:07Speaker 1: try to make by the way. And I, again, like
- 31:10Speaker 1: it just was so challenging that then like, I just
- 31:14Speaker 1: found something else to do.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Whereas now they have the, the ease of the technology
- 31:19Speaker 1: that maybe frees up the creativeness that gives them the
- 31:22Speaker 1: chance to be like, okay, here's your voice. Like go
- 31:25Speaker 1: for it, find it, like do what you want to do.
- 31:27Speaker 3: And you're encouraged, you're encouraged by your peers to, to,
- 31:32Speaker 3: state your voice and, and, uh, or shot down.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Again, that's a horrible place at times. This is true,
- 31:39Speaker 1: but they have the freedom and they have the tools
- 31:42Speaker 1: to do stuff that we never had. So again, I
- 31:45Speaker 1: don't know what's going to come of it, but I
- 31:48Speaker 1: think it, it has an upside. It has promise to it.
- 31:51Speaker 1: It's just with the internet also brings evil quite often
- 31:55Speaker 1: that I found. So yeah, I, I, I'm, I'm concerned,
- 31:59Speaker 1: but hopeful. Let's go with that.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I just don't.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:02Speaker 3: So, you know, it's not a doomsayer mentality. It's just
- 32:06Speaker 3: that the world has changed. And I don't, I, you know,
- 32:09Speaker 3: I'm struggling like everybody to understand what this means and
- 32:13Speaker 3: what we're going to make of this. And, you know,
- 32:15Speaker 3: as a parent, you're just always wondering if you're ruining
- 32:18Speaker 3: your kids, if your kids are going to grow up.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a reason I didn't want to go.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Down that road. Well, you know, you just go like,
- 32:24Speaker 3: you go like, you know, and so, you know, everybody's
- 32:25Speaker 3: like so accepting and everybody's so like, like lovey-dovey and
- 32:29Speaker 3: everything and and like you know all types are welcome
- 32:32Speaker 3: and everything but then on the internet you know the
- 32:35Speaker 3: kids are killing themselves because they're getting cyber bullied yeah
- 32:37Speaker 3: i mean and you know i mean it just it's
- 32:39Speaker 3: like almost like displaced itself i.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Don't romanticize it that it's a beautiful wonderful place right
- 32:45Speaker 1: again i it it offers so much freedom and so
- 32:48Speaker 1: much opportunity but with that comes the dark side the
- 32:51Speaker 1: dark side like she has people being a horrible to
- 32:55Speaker 1: each other right and preying on weaknesses and preying on
- 32:59Speaker 1: on you know just what is easy to attack right
- 33:03Speaker 1: the the kids that aren't prepared for that are being
- 33:06Speaker 1: taken out so like it's it's a frightening place as
- 33:09Speaker 1: much as it is like opportunity it is disturbing how
- 33:12Speaker 1: much can go on there that is just dark and afraid.
- 33:16Speaker 3: And it's a road, and it's a uncharted road. It's
- 33:20Speaker 3: not like.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we have no idea what we're doing.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Right, right. So you're going like, I mean, what if Like,
- 33:26Speaker 3: the most embarrassing thing from middle school was broadcast to
- 33:30Speaker 3: the world, you know, that ever happened to you.
- 33:33Speaker 1: That's the other side of that coin. Like, we think
- 33:35Speaker 1: of how hard we had it when we were like,
- 33:37Speaker 1: nobody liked us because we were into Star Wars. But
- 33:39Speaker 1: we also didn't have people shooting cell phone footage of
- 33:42Speaker 1: whatever stupid thing we just did and then broadcasting it
- 33:44Speaker 1: to everyone around the world. And every one of your
- 33:47Speaker 1: friends in school now found some new thing to pick
- 33:50Speaker 1: on you for, a new thing to call you and
- 33:52Speaker 1: make fun of you for.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Right.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Again, there's that flip side of that coin that's equally
- 33:56Speaker 1: as challenging, if not more so, exponentially than we ever understood. Yeah.
- 34:02Speaker 3: When we were growing up, it was like nuclear obliteration.
- 34:08Speaker 3: We were like, oh yeah, there's a nuclear arms race
- 34:10Speaker 3: and stuff like that. But with the echo chamber of
- 34:15Speaker 3: the internet, my daughter... believes that the world is going
- 34:19Speaker 3: to be over in 20 years, you know, because of.
- 34:22Speaker 1: She might be right. I mean, that's the thing. I
- 34:25Speaker 1: hate to think of that, but I look at just
- 34:27Speaker 1: what's going on in the, the world, you know, people wise,
- 34:31Speaker 1: climate wise, like the world itself is kind of destroying itself.
- 34:36Speaker 1: And we certainly have not helped. We're kind of responsible.
- 34:39Speaker 1: So yeah, it's like, it's amazing.
- 34:41Speaker 3: So that's, but that's like what they grow up with.
- 34:43Speaker 3: That's the neurosis, you know, I mean, it was, it's just,
- 34:46Speaker 3: the world's gotten bigger. and it's gotten scarier and now
- 34:50Speaker 3: the doomsayers you know i don't know the doomsayers just
- 34:53Speaker 3: have bigger microphones and so it seems more real because
- 34:57Speaker 3: these are adults and then you got steven hawkins saying
- 35:01Speaker 3: before he croaked you know we're all gonna be dead
- 35:03Speaker 3: in 20 years you know thanks steve thanks steve good
- 35:06Speaker 3: good note to go out on you know uh you
- 35:10Speaker 3: know it's just like uh You know, it's a nightmare.
- 35:14Speaker 1: This week, brought to you by nightmares.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Nightmares. You know, middle-aged paranoia. Don't understand them internets. Uh,
- 35:27Speaker 3: my kids are going to grow up to be sociopaths
- 35:30Speaker 3: and the world is going to be over. But you know,
- 35:33Speaker 3: I'm going like, well, you know, every generation thinks they
- 35:35Speaker 3: invented the apocalypse. So, you know, uh, so, you know,
- 35:38Speaker 3: I mean, uh.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I mean, World War II was like the darkest day
- 35:44Speaker 1: ever at that point. But you look at what immediately
- 35:47Speaker 1: followed that is what so many people look at as
- 35:49Speaker 1: like Ah, the golden era of Americana, like the heyday,
- 35:52Speaker 1: which again, for some people, for rich white men, but like,
- 35:57Speaker 1: you know, for anyone of another race or a woman.
- 36:01Speaker 3: It was still horrible times, but.
- 36:03Speaker 1: We've romanticized this mirror that came after the most horrifying
- 36:07Speaker 1: things in the world. ever and like we followed it
- 36:10Speaker 1: up with what is you know now romanticized to be
- 36:13Speaker 1: the greatest time so it's like it's all perspective and
- 36:16Speaker 1: we're all coming off of a doomsday and like going
- 36:18Speaker 1: to the next doomsday because you know then next thing
- 36:21Speaker 1: you know that generation grows up into a cuban missile
- 36:23Speaker 1: crisis and like you know it's like we just graduate
- 36:25Speaker 1: to the next horrible thing that.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Comes along every generation has their terrible thing that's going
- 36:29Speaker 3: to take us out.
- 36:30Speaker 1: It's going to destroy us and right and we've just
- 36:32Speaker 1: gotten better and more efficient at how quickly we're going
- 36:35Speaker 1: to destroy.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Ourselves Right, right, right. And that brings us back to Romero.
- 36:39Speaker 3: I mean, like the whole, you know, 20 years, you know,
- 36:41Speaker 3: the climate change, oh, if we do something now, it's
- 36:43Speaker 3: just like the zombies. The climate change is now zombies,
- 36:45Speaker 3: you know, the zombies are now climate change, you know,
- 36:47Speaker 3: or like, you know, if we do something now, if
- 36:50Speaker 3: we all work together and do something now. We can
- 36:52Speaker 3: stop this thing, but we're too busy bickering. And so
- 36:55Speaker 3: now it's going to be like, you know, the zombies
- 36:57Speaker 3: are always, you know, that's why the slow zombies are better.
- 37:00Speaker 3: That's more realistic. That's more what we see.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Zombies are inevitable. Yeah, right. They're going to take over.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Tell me how we got here.
- 37:10Speaker 5: I see you but you're not.
- 37:12Speaker 13: There Try to save you, warn you, keep you alive.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Try to stop you but you'll pay the price Tell
- 37:24Speaker 1: me it's a nightmare.
- 37:28Speaker 10: And you ain't going nowhere.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Try to save you, want you, keep you alive Try
- 37:37Speaker 1: to stop you, but you paid the price.
- 37:41Speaker 10: Should've seen it coming, baby Should've seen it in my
- 37:47Speaker 10: eyes It's not like I never told you Shouldn't come
- 37:50Speaker 10: as a surprise You.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Were higher than adrenaline And you.
- 37:55Speaker 10: Always wanted more I'm a demon in the shadows And
- 37:58Speaker 10: you stepped into the.
- 37:59Speaker 4: Dark One minute left to top off the evening with
- 38:10Speaker 4: a treat from our snack bar. Still time if you hurry.

- 38:25Speaker 11: you witness the electrifying Night of the Living Dead and
- 38:30Speaker 11: Blood and Black Lace. You must free the theater from
- 38:33Speaker 11: responsibility should your heart stop. Paralyzed in fright from the
- 38:38Speaker 11: 12 deadly hours of the Night of the Living Dead.
- 38:42Speaker 11: where strange, incredulous molecular mutation incites cadavers to arise live
- 38:49Speaker 11: from their coffins to devour all human flesh. And the
- 38:54Speaker 11: house of horror, the house of blood and black lace,
- 38:59Speaker 11: a chic French fashion salon where seven breathtaking models will
- 39:03Speaker 11: find their hideous, diabolical end.
- 39:07Speaker 5: Night of the living dead.
- 39:09Speaker 11: Together with blood and black lace. A terrifying evening with
- 39:15Speaker 11: the undead.

- 40:43Speaker 1: to these poor bastards. Like, yeah, it's not just like, hey,
- 40:47Speaker 1: I'm rich and I want your money anyway. It's It
- 40:50Speaker 1: really does keep the show going to.
- 40:52Speaker 7: The level that people don't realize.
- 40:55Speaker 1: It's kind of the only way it's survived this last
- 40:57Speaker 1: year and a half or so since we started this.
- 41:01Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 41:01Speaker 1: So it is not only greatly appreciated, but it gives
- 41:05Speaker 1: us kind of a good way to come up with something.
- 41:08Speaker 15: Specific to put out there just for these people that.
- 41:11Speaker 7: We don't no actually care enough to kick in.
- 41:14Speaker 9: So you get a lot of great stuff for that too.

- 41:38Speaker 1: the meltdown.
- 41:53Speaker 12: Hey, this is General Joe Shelby, better known as Martinez
- 41:58Speaker 12: from Dawn of the Dead, and you're listening to the
- 42:01Speaker 12: Dynamite Channel of Movie Meltdown.
- 42:05Speaker 9: Stay tuned and stay tight.
- 42:21Speaker 6: It's part of your problem, you know, you haven't seen
- 42:23Speaker 6: enough movies. All of life's riddles are answered.
- 42:26Speaker 9: In the movies.
- 42:28Speaker 3: And now, on with the show.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Two thousand years.
- 42:30Speaker 13: I've been awake Waiting.
- 42:33Speaker 10: For the day to shake Two of you who I am,
- 42:43Speaker 10: I am a zombie Again and again you want me
- 42:48Speaker 10: to fall on my head I am, I am, I
- 42:51Speaker 10: am a zombie Hello, hello, hello You push me to go,
- 43:02Speaker 10: to go, to.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Go Before I lie down to rest Zombies are inevitable,
- 43:11Speaker 1: and they're going to take over, and sometimes they've taken
- 43:14Speaker 1: over our primetime television.
- 43:16Speaker 3: This is true.
- 43:17Speaker 1: So that's our tie-in to this special episode. Normally, I
- 43:22Speaker 1: lean towards movies, and we've talked about a lot of movies,
- 43:25Speaker 1: but as... Again, earlier today, we were discussing all the
- 43:29Speaker 1: weird aspects of Movie Meltdown. Right. And I've said the
- 43:32Speaker 1: name itself has become more and more, like, perfect as
- 43:37Speaker 1: we've gone on. Because not only do we, you know,
- 43:39Speaker 1: as a show, melt down on occasion.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 43:41Speaker 1: But I always try to, like, the melting is like
- 43:45Speaker 1: that melding of all the media. And, like, again, looking
- 43:47Speaker 1: at the way kids have all these things at their fingertips. But, like,
- 43:50Speaker 1: everything is also blurring, too. And, like, movies and series, like,
- 43:55Speaker 1: it's becoming a weird gray area. occasionally we're going to
- 43:58Speaker 1: sit around and talk about a TV series and yeah,
- 44:01Speaker 1: it's fine. Yeah. And that's specifically, but what, what kind
- 44:04Speaker 1: of was, was handed to me at this event, like
- 44:07Speaker 1: I got to dragon con and they're like, Hey, okay. Uh,
- 44:09Speaker 1: you know, you as the awesome media outlet that movie
- 44:12Speaker 1: mouth gets to go to this, uh, this press conference
- 44:16Speaker 1: with the Rose MacGyver.
- 44:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:18Speaker 1: So I'm like, again, it's a perfect tie in. Cause
- 44:21Speaker 1: you've listened to, myself and Misty ramble on about how
- 44:23Speaker 1: much we love iZombie.
- 44:25Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 44:25Speaker 1: And it's kind of making good. Actually, afterwards, I called
- 44:29Speaker 1: Misty because sadly she couldn't be there this weekend. But
- 44:33Speaker 1: I was like, this is kind of making good on
- 44:36Speaker 1: several years ago. We specifically... and there is an episode
- 44:40Speaker 1: go back and find it if you care right uh
- 44:42Speaker 1: we specifically drove to chicago yeah because that was the
- 44:46Speaker 1: closest place that rose was making any appearance like she
- 44:50Speaker 1: was not coming anywhere this far into the the end
- 44:52Speaker 1: of the country right and like we were like dead
- 44:55Speaker 1: set we're like okay we at least want to like
- 44:57Speaker 1: go you know get a picture you know just have
- 44:59Speaker 1: her sign a picture and like say hey thanks for
- 45:02Speaker 1: making the show and like so yeah But, like, nothing
- 45:05Speaker 1: else came out of it. Like, even then, I was
- 45:06Speaker 1: trying to, like, oh, it'd be really cool to talk
- 45:08Speaker 1: to her.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Right.
- 45:08Speaker 1: And that didn't happen then.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Right.
- 45:10Speaker 1: So, like, we drove all the way to Chicago, and
- 45:12Speaker 1: we did at least get our picture, and we told
- 45:13Speaker 1: her she was awesome, and she is.
- 45:15Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 45:15Speaker 1: So, like, finally, this, like, years and years later, I
- 45:18Speaker 1: get here, and it's funny that it's after the wrap-up. Like,
- 45:23Speaker 1: we at least now get to talk about the entirety
- 45:25Speaker 1: of the series.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Because they just... wrapped up the show um so yeah
- 45:29Speaker 1: it's it's also really interesting i guess dragon con being
- 45:32Speaker 1: as huge as it is i've done and as you
- 45:36Speaker 1: know you've listened to a lot of my rambling with
- 45:38Speaker 1: celebrities over the years it's always kind of a one-on-one
- 45:41Speaker 1: you know i just sit there and and probably creep
- 45:43Speaker 1: them out and ask them weird questions and and usually
- 45:47Speaker 1: they are very accommodating and nice to me and they
- 45:49Speaker 1: answer them This one, because, again, there's just so many people,
- 45:53Speaker 1: they did it literally as a press conference. So we
- 45:56Speaker 1: went in and it was a room and we had
- 45:59Speaker 1: like a they had the Dragon Con banner behind her
- 46:02Speaker 1: and a stool up front. And she like sat down
- 46:05Speaker 1: and like in front of us all. And we had
- 46:08Speaker 1: at least it wasn't overwhelming. It wasn't like, you know,
- 46:10Speaker 1: over here, over here. It wasn't like a. A political
- 46:13Speaker 1: press conference, thankfully.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Right, right, right, right, right.
- 46:14Speaker 1: It was all very nice and we were well-behaved and
- 46:16Speaker 1: all the people there and the media got along and
- 46:19Speaker 1: there was just sort of a handful of us, so
- 46:21Speaker 1: it was kind of cool, but we... It's a weird scenario.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I'm not used to this. And you'll also get a
- 46:25Speaker 1: little more open mic sound because that's kind of how
- 46:28Speaker 1: I had to record it. But yeah, we get the
- 46:30Speaker 1: whole room here and you get... Don't worry. I get
- 46:34Speaker 1: to ask a couple questions. And of course, I immediately
- 46:37Speaker 1: launch into eating brains. Yeah. Because why wouldn't you?
- 46:40Speaker 3: That's the topic.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Of course. And you tell me if I'm wrong. I
- 46:44Speaker 1: think I came up with a good idea as we
- 46:46Speaker 1: go into this. But you'll also... I'll try to... you
- 46:49Speaker 1: know boost the sound so you can get the other
- 46:51Speaker 1: uh reporters asking their questions too and and you can
- 46:54Speaker 1: get rose's take on all of it so i kind
- 46:55Speaker 1: of wanted to include this sort of in its entirety
- 46:58Speaker 1: of how the whole like press conference came together and
- 47:01Speaker 1: yes it is uh mostly i zombie really actually uh
- 47:04Speaker 1: if you're either behind watching i zombie or you live
- 47:09Speaker 1: in new zealand as we found out uh some of
- 47:13Speaker 1: the show there's a delay in how they see it
- 47:16Speaker 1: in other countries so If you haven't seen the wrap-up
- 47:19Speaker 1: of iZombie, spoiler alert, because someone's going to ask a
- 47:22Speaker 1: question about the way it wraps up. So just heads up,
- 47:26Speaker 1: well beforehand, you've been warned. But yeah, we also get
- 47:30Speaker 1: kind of an interesting take on that. It's mostly the
- 47:33Speaker 1: TV show. Don't worry if you want that weird prince
- 47:37Speaker 1: movie that she's involved in, now a trilogy. We do
- 47:40Speaker 1: get a question on that. So there is a movie
- 47:42Speaker 1: tie in there, don't you worry. I know you like
- 47:44Speaker 1: your weird princess and the royal baby movie they're going
- 47:47Speaker 1: to make, and I know you're excited about those things.
- 47:49Speaker 1: That's in there too, but it's mostly zombies. So again,
- 47:53Speaker 1: the Romero legacy comes full circle.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Okay.
- 47:56Speaker 1: I say we go right now and launch into our
- 47:59Speaker 1: discussion with Rose MacGyver. Awesome. This is such a nice
- 48:17Speaker 1: little setup, guys. Nicely lined up.
- 48:22Speaker 10: Cute.
- 48:23Speaker 1: I like it.
- 48:25Speaker 10: OCD dream. Exactly, yeah.
- 48:26Speaker 13: I like the detail.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I respect that.
- 48:45Speaker 9: You're good to go. So this is Dragon Con number
- 48:47Speaker 9: two for you. Mm-hmm. What brought you back?
- 48:50Speaker 5: An invite, basically. I had been really excited to be
- 48:54Speaker 5: able to come back.
- 48:54Speaker 8: I'd been filming iZombie in Vancouver for the last few years,
- 48:58Speaker 8: which is a little bit of a hectic trip to
- 49:00Speaker 8: try to get here, too. But, yeah, we finished now,
- 49:04Speaker 8: so I was really excited to be able to come
- 49:06Speaker 8: back and see everyone and see the madness here.
- 49:09Speaker 5: It's amazing. It's huge.
- 49:13Speaker 9: I have a question.
- 49:14Speaker 8: Were there any brains that you didn't get the opportunity
- 49:16Speaker 8: to play but think would have been a lot of
- 49:19Speaker 8: fun or interesting?
- 49:20Speaker 5: Or a challenge I used.
- 49:21Speaker 8: To think that in about season four and then basically
- 49:25Speaker 8: every stretched part of my imagination the writers had already
- 49:30Speaker 8: kind of beat me too I remember thinking like fitness
- 49:33Speaker 8: guru would be.
- 49:34Speaker 5: A fun one that was my brilliant idea and they
- 49:37Speaker 5: were like oh we've already got that planned for season
- 49:39Speaker 5: five so They were pretty across that.
- 49:42Speaker 8: And over the course of five years, I can't remember
- 49:44Speaker 8: how many, but it was something around 60 brains. So basically,
- 49:49Speaker 8: you know, we were happy in some ways that, like,
- 49:54Speaker 8: I guess it could have spread. Other people could have
- 49:55Speaker 8: been playing more brains, but we'd used up a lot
- 49:58Speaker 8: of resources by the end of season five.
- 50:01Speaker 10: Was there anything that the writers did or they sent
- 50:05Speaker 10: Liz that you were surprised by?
- 50:06Speaker 8: They pranked me one time saying that– They know I'm
- 50:10Speaker 8: a dog person. I'm not as much of a cat person.
- 50:12Speaker 8: I'm changing now. Guys, there's still room for growth. But
- 50:16Speaker 8: I have met a couple of cats that I don't
- 50:18Speaker 8: mind now. But I had really, we had cats growing
- 50:21Speaker 8: up that were like not very nice. We weren't allowed
- 50:24Speaker 8: to pet them. They were like very scratchy.
- 50:25Speaker 5: So growing up, they weren't my favorite animal.
- 50:28Speaker 8: And the writers found that out and called me and
- 50:31Speaker 8: told me I had to play a cat lady and
- 50:32Speaker 8: that I was going to be working with 17 cats.
- 50:34Speaker 8: And I had this like phone call and they were all,
- 50:37Speaker 8: hoping I was going to be a diva and throw
- 50:39Speaker 8: down and say, no, absolutely not.
- 50:40Speaker 5: I'm not doing it. Instead, I was like, I still
- 50:43Speaker 5: need a job. So, okay. Like, you know, 17, definitely
- 50:47Speaker 5: no more.
- 50:48Speaker 12: Okay.
- 50:49Speaker 5: Anyway, they told me it was a joke in the
- 50:50Speaker 5: end and I was rather relieved.
- 50:54Speaker 2: So I have a friend who's dying for me to
- 50:56Speaker 2: ask about your thoughts on the Christmas Prince movies that
- 51:00Speaker 2: you've been in.
- 51:01Speaker 9: And of course, number three is coming out. It's going
- 51:03Speaker 9: to be a trilogy now.
- 51:04Speaker 11: Oh yeah.
- 51:05Speaker 5: The Royal Babies.
- 51:06Speaker 9: Right, exactly. So, I mean, what's it like for work
- 51:09Speaker 9: on that project?
- 51:11Speaker 8: It's just been the most surreal thing where it was
- 51:14Speaker 8: like a sweet holiday movie that just went nuts. I
- 51:18Speaker 8: didn't know what was going to happen. So I've just
- 51:21Speaker 8: been really grateful. Like anything that kind of keeps getting renewed,
- 51:25Speaker 8: it's effectively like getting renewed as a TV series. So
- 51:28Speaker 8: I'm just kind of in awe that there's a lot
- 51:32Speaker 8: of those kinds of movies that are out there. And
- 51:33Speaker 8: for some reason, this one sort of did something different.
- 51:37Speaker 8: So it's, it's really, it's fun.
- 51:39Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 51:39Speaker 8: It's not, um, rewriting cinema, but it's something like, I
- 51:44Speaker 8: think a lot of the time right.
- 51:45Speaker 5: Now we're getting a lot of bad news in the media.
- 51:48Speaker 8: A lot of the time, um, not that's actually any
- 51:51Speaker 8: different to what has been happening, I think forever, but we're.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Getting inundated with a lot of negative media.
- 51:57Speaker 8: So people want to watch something that makes them feel good. And, um, Apparently,
- 52:02Speaker 8: Queen Amber of Aldovia makes people feel really good.
- 52:05Speaker 5: So, yeah, exactly. Load up the eggnog and get ready
- 52:09Speaker 5: for another one, guys.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Netflix had that little blurb. It was like, we
- 52:13Speaker 2: detected that somebody's watched this film.
- 52:15Speaker 12: 53.
- 52:15Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, who heard you?
- 52:17Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, exactly.
- 52:18Speaker 5: They had a few really good tweets about it.
- 52:20Speaker 6: Nice.
- 52:21Speaker 5: I had a friend who watched it 12 times over Christmas.
- 52:24Speaker 2: 12?
- 52:24Speaker 5: She was like, I don't know why I can't stop
- 52:26Speaker 5: watching it. And I was like.
- 52:28Speaker 8: So we've made it a tradition now at our place
- 52:31Speaker 8: to watch the one and then the two.
- 52:33Speaker 5: So next year we can. Yeah, it's like the new
- 52:36Speaker 5: Lord of the Rings, right? Yeah, definitely. That's what I'm
- 52:39Speaker 5: pitching it as. I like that pitch, actually. We'll leave
- 52:43Speaker 5: the Hobbit standalone now.
- 52:44Speaker 9: Sure.
- 52:45Speaker 5: Pull in a whole new fandom. Who's going to be
- 52:47Speaker 5: the Hobbit from Christmas Prince?
- 52:51Speaker 12: Me?
- 52:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you have the accent, it's fine. Oh, okay.
- 52:54Speaker 5: Exactly right.
- 52:55Speaker 11: I can take them to the.
- 52:56Speaker 5: I don't know, Elf Hobbit?
- 52:59Speaker 8: Take them to the, yeah, back to New Zealand and
- 53:02Speaker 8: all the Hobbiton sets. Take Queen Amber Valdivia back there
- 53:07Speaker 8: to the Shire.
- 53:08Speaker 5: That would be nice. All right, so what was your
- 53:12Speaker 5: favorite brain? I know you've probably asked this a thousand times,
- 53:14Speaker 5: but what was the most fun since you've ended the
- 53:17Speaker 5: series out of all the seasons? What was your favorite brain?
- 53:23Speaker 8: It's too hard to really choose one. It kind of
- 53:24Speaker 8: depends how I feel on any given day that I
- 53:26Speaker 8: get asked. Right now, I feel like.
- 53:29Speaker 5: Dungeons & Dragons brain was really, really fun.
- 53:32Speaker 8: Mainly because it was so communal. Some of the brains
- 53:35Speaker 8: had put me in my own sort of experience in
- 53:37Speaker 8: the show. And that was one that brought everybody together.
- 53:40Speaker 8: And everybody got to have so much fun when I
- 53:43Speaker 8: was on that brain and I was the dungeon master.
- 53:45Speaker 8: And kind of they were almost on their own brains themselves.
- 53:48Speaker 8: Like all the rest of the cast were bringing out
- 53:51Speaker 8: these very heightened versions of themselves and getting to do
- 53:54Speaker 8: all of the role playing and everything.
- 53:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:56Speaker 8: Yeah, we had a really good time on that.
- 53:59Speaker 9: Can I follow up on that? D & D is
- 54:02Speaker 9: just absolutely exploding all over the place. Do you personally
- 54:06Speaker 9: play D & D?
- 54:07Speaker 5: We didn't have time when we were doing the show, really,
- 54:10Speaker 5: just realistically.
- 54:11Speaker 8: Malcolm Goodwin, who plays Clive Babineau on the show, is
- 54:14Speaker 8: the one person who went to a campaign outside of...
- 54:17Speaker 8: Once we'd finished shooting, we all really enjoyed it, but
- 54:20Speaker 8: he was like, I want to pursue this. So he
- 54:22Speaker 8: went and did a campaign, but it took up like
- 54:24Speaker 8: six hours, turns out, and we only have like one
- 54:27Speaker 8: day to do our laundry. So that just didn't work
- 54:30Speaker 8: out as being very practical at that time. But also
- 54:33Speaker 8: because I travel so much and it's something you have
- 54:34Speaker 8: to commit to regularly. So it hasn't happened yet, but
- 54:39Speaker 8: who knows? Maybe that's going to be my next chapter.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 54:43Speaker 1: On the eating brains. I love the cooking montages. Were
- 54:47Speaker 1: there any of those that you had any input on?
- 54:49Speaker 1: And then what's the best and worst about all of them?
- 54:53Speaker 1: I mean, whatever they make you eat in that browser.
- 54:55Speaker 5: I had no input in anything.
- 54:56Speaker 8: They really, we had such a good writer's room and yeah,
- 55:01Speaker 8: I would suggest a brain or come up with an idea.
- 55:03Speaker 5: And it was always like just small fry compared to
- 55:06Speaker 5: what they had in mind.
- 55:06Speaker 8: So a lot of the time that was, I was
- 55:10Speaker 8: also trying to come up with a, the characters each
- 55:12Speaker 8: week so I kind of didn't have much brain power
- 55:15Speaker 8: left to contribute usefully anywhere else so it was mainly
- 55:20Speaker 8: all decided by the writers room and then we had
- 55:23Speaker 8: a great chef called Juno who worked with us through
- 55:25Speaker 8: the whole show and pretty much the whole show and
- 55:28Speaker 8: he would bring these creations to life and they were
- 55:30Speaker 8: always puns they were always based on the example I
- 55:33Speaker 8: give is like the episode that I'm on a white
- 55:36Speaker 8: wrapper brain there's like a white wrap that they're using
- 55:39Speaker 8: like a tortilla that they're wrapping the food in So
- 55:42Speaker 8: there would always be like, sometimes they're more obvious and
- 55:44Speaker 8: sometimes not.
- 55:46Speaker 5: But we always enjoyed those.
- 55:47Speaker 8: And the food itself, the meal was normally really good,
- 55:52Speaker 8: except for the brain part.
- 55:53Speaker 5: That was always disgusting. What did they use?
- 55:56Speaker 8: Gelatin, corn syrup. They did some fondant when it was
- 55:59Speaker 8: supposed to be harder or they would like.
- 56:03Speaker 5: All sorts.
- 56:03Speaker 8: They've kind of, they ended up exploring, but it's really
- 56:06Speaker 8: impossible to enjoy something that looks like a brain.
- 56:08Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 56:09Speaker 5: No, I don't recommend that part. There's a signature restaurant
- 56:12Speaker 5: opening up soon.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 56:13Speaker 5: Okay, keep it posted, right? Actually, I mean, it's not
- 56:16Speaker 5: so bad.
- 56:17Speaker 7: If you send it up here, that would work.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Yeah, right, exactly.
- 56:20Speaker 5: Maybe just for the cons, I think.
- 56:22Speaker 8: Dragon Con, a Dragon Con brain restaurant could work.
- 56:24Speaker 5: A Pop-Up Brain Restaurant. Y'all, let's make this happen. Guys,
- 56:26Speaker 5: we should totally. Let's do it.
- 56:28Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 56:29Speaker 5: We'll send it. We'll send it and we'll do it.
- 56:31Speaker 5: Hashtag it. Hashtag it. Yes, Pop-Up Brain Restaurant.
- 56:34Speaker 8: I'm sure people will be like, Dragon Con 2020. Pop-Up
- 56:37Speaker 8: Brain restaurant.
- 56:37Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 56:38Speaker 5: You have to be there to cut the ribbon. Exactly.
- 56:40Speaker 9: And a chef hat on, obviously.
- 56:42Speaker 13: Yeah, exactly.
- 56:43Speaker 9: It's a real possibility.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Last night someone was cosplaying a little mobile squid restaurant
- 56:48Speaker 2: and they were cooking squid downstairs.
- 56:49Speaker 12: What?
- 56:50Speaker 5: Oh, my gosh.
- 56:50Speaker 8: So we're now doing a Pop-Up Brain costume. A pop-up
- 56:53Speaker 8: brain restaurant costume. All of us have to dress up
- 56:56Speaker 8: like zombies.
- 56:58Speaker 5: Okay, I'll take this. Let's roll with it.
- 57:01Speaker 8: I keep thinking I want to do a cosplay at
- 57:03Speaker 8: one of these concerts, but what should I do?
- 57:05Speaker 5: I'm shy. These people are so good. Have you seen
- 57:09Speaker 5: the Andrew Garfield one where he dresses up like Spider-Man?
- 57:13Speaker 5: for photos you should dress up like Liv but.
- 57:16Speaker 8: Do a really bad job on the makeup oh my
- 57:18Speaker 8: god that would be so funny and then you're just
- 57:21Speaker 8: like standing in there and then you go to the.
- 57:22Speaker 5: Panel and they're like oh shit especially when you.
- 57:25Speaker 8: See these really good kids cosplaying or like people of
- 57:28Speaker 8: all ages but particularly like these people who do all
- 57:30Speaker 8: the YouTube tutorials how.
- 57:32Speaker 16: Old am I by the way like a grandma the
- 57:34Speaker 16: kids who do all the YouTube tutorials and they learn
- 57:36Speaker 16: how to do Liv's makeup and they're so good and
- 57:39Speaker 16: I'm like I would definitely be an inferior Liv at
- 57:43Speaker 16: the convention, but maybe I should.
- 57:44Speaker 5: Maybe that's good. Inferior Liv. That's fine. What if you
- 57:47Speaker 5: bring your makeup artist with you and you're like a
- 57:49Speaker 5: superb Liv? People are like, oh my god, she looks
- 57:51Speaker 5: just like Liv Moore. You're like, surprise, bitches.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 57:54Speaker 5: I would need to bring her. That would be somebody.
- 57:56Speaker 9: Nah, doesn't look like her.
- 57:58Speaker 8: That would be fun, though. Except, I will tell you,
- 58:00Speaker 8: the one thing I don't miss from that show is
- 58:02Speaker 8: the wig. It was not a great fit.
- 58:05Speaker 5: Ever. You can see the wig get better as the
- 58:07Speaker 5: seasons progress.
- 58:08Speaker 8: The first And also, yeah, depending on, like, any given
- 58:12Speaker 8: week and how fast we were moving, and there are
- 58:14Speaker 8: so many elements to it. They did a great job
- 58:16Speaker 8: with trying to make it work. But it turns out, like,
- 58:19Speaker 8: a white lace front wig with a revealed hairline is
- 58:22Speaker 8: a really hard thing to do.
- 58:23Speaker 5: Trust me.
- 58:24Speaker 11: I know.
- 58:24Speaker 5: I'm actually wearing one with a photo op with you.
- 58:26Speaker 1: Oh, cool. Later, yeah.
- 58:28Speaker 15: Exciting.
- 58:28Speaker 5: It's going to be great.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Well, don't worry.
- 58:32Speaker 5: There's no judgment here. I get it. I get it.
- 58:34Speaker 5: I do have a question, though. regarding iZombie, the end
- 58:37Speaker 5: of it. So, last year, I interviewed Jessica Harmon. I
- 58:40Speaker 5: love Jessica Harmon so much. She's so sweet. I love Richard, too. Yeah.
- 58:44Speaker 5: Such a doll.
- 58:45Speaker 8: Crazy talented family. Bozio and Babineau are like my OTP.
- 58:49Speaker 12: My OTP.
- 58:50Speaker 8: They're my OTP.
- 58:54Speaker 5: So, how do you feel that Liv decided to stay
- 58:57Speaker 5: at Zombie? Oh, spoilers, yeah. With, I mean, you know,
- 59:01Speaker 5: it's been outside, people. But with Major.
- 59:06Speaker 8: I think it's not out in New Zealand yet.
- 59:08Speaker 12: Is it really not?
- 59:08Speaker 5: I think, yeah, New Zealand gets it about six years
- 59:11Speaker 5: after everyone. Spoiler alert. Okay, I'm sorry.
- 59:15Speaker 12: Spoiler alert.
- 59:15Speaker 9: No, no, no, you're good.
- 59:16Speaker 5: Spoiler alert.
- 59:18Speaker 8: Liv stays a zombie with Major, and do you think
- 59:21Speaker 8: that Major is her.
- 59:22Speaker 5: Are they just friends now? How does she feel that
- 59:24Speaker 5: she's just staying a zombie? helping out these kids. No,
- 59:27Speaker 5: they're not friends. They're definitely together. They're married. They're actually
- 59:30Speaker 5: wearing little wedding rings. I did not notice that. It's
- 59:32Speaker 5: a little spoiler for you guys.
- 59:33Speaker 8: But they, yeah, I think I love kind of the
- 59:37Speaker 8: journey of their relationship where I think there's something really
- 59:40Speaker 8: special about being friends as well as being partners. And
- 59:44Speaker 8: I know it was a rocky road to get there
- 59:46Speaker 8: and a lot of people got invested in a lot
- 59:48Speaker 8: of Liv's relationships. But I felt like it's real and
- 59:53Speaker 8: they really know each other and they know their flaws
- 59:55Speaker 8: and they know their strengths. And, um, I was very
- 59:59Speaker 8: happy about the decision for Liv to remain a zombie.
- 1:00:01Speaker 8: That part I felt very strongly about because the whole
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: show to me is about, she didn't really know herself
- 1:00:06Speaker 8: before that and this gave her purpose. And so to
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: take that away, I kind of, it loses the metaphor
- 1:00:12Speaker 8: of supporting outsiders and people who don't feel like normal
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: or haven't been made to feel normal by everybody else. So,
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: for her to suddenly become normal again, to me, would
- 1:00:22Speaker 8: have been a real failure. And I like that she
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: kind of, she's, yeah, that it always, I used to
- 1:00:29Speaker 8: think of David Bowie a lot with Liv, like I
- 1:00:31Speaker 8: listened to a lot of his music about just like, yeah,
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: like celebrating what makes you odd. And so that would
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: have been kind of very wrong to me, I think,
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: if Liv had ended up becoming human again.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: And they needed her.
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: It worked out perfectly because she, you know, I don't
- 1:00:48Speaker 8: want her to stay a zombie just because, but instead
- 1:00:51Speaker 8: she was able to actually be doing something for other
- 1:00:53Speaker 8: people because of that.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: Um, and they needed it.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: So now that the final season is here for a zombie, what's,
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: what's on your project slate? Can you talk about anything
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: you're working on that's coming up?
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: I am, um, I'm not sure. I'm doing some theater.
- 1:01:11Speaker 8: I'm not sure I'm allowed to talk about that yet,
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: but I am doing some theater, which I'm really looking
- 1:01:14Speaker 8: forward to. I haven't done it in 10 years. And, um,
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: For me to be able to do a play again
- 1:01:20Speaker 8: where you rehearse for like two months is so exciting
- 1:01:25Speaker 8: because with Liv, you know, and most of the jobs
- 1:01:27Speaker 8: that I've been working on, it's so fast turnaround and
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: you have a week to come up with something and
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: then it's out and then.
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: It's gone and it's a new thing. And so to
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: be able to kind of.
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: Really analyse a play and like it's going to be
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: a very different experience, very challenging, really.
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: exciting. So that's kind of keeping me occupied at the moment.
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: And then I directed a little short film as well.
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: So I kind of wanted to shake.
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: Up and do some off-camera stuff for a little bit too.
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: I've been on camera for the last six months.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Ride On?
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: Nice Ride. But Ride On's a good old title.
- 1:02:00Speaker 9: Okay.
- 1:02:02Speaker 12: Pitching.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: I like that.
- 1:02:04Speaker 9: What's the short film about?
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: I haven't actually talked about it at all yet.
- 1:02:09Speaker 8: I kind of kept that one a little bit private
- 1:02:10Speaker 8: just because it was my first experience doing it and
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: I sort of wanted to have um, to feel safe
- 1:02:16Speaker 8: and be able to feel vulnerable in it without kind
- 1:02:18Speaker 8: of sharing that with other people yet. Um, just till
- 1:02:21Speaker 8: I was working out how it actually worked and whether
- 1:02:23Speaker 8: I felt competent in that experience.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Um, and I had a really good time. It's yeah,
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: it's just kind.
- 1:02:28Speaker 8: Of a small, um, character studies or I would kind
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: of say about it at the moment, but I worked
- 1:02:33Speaker 8: with some really great actors and an incredible team, a producer,
- 1:02:37Speaker 8: Marley Elfman, who's just a certifiable genius producer. Um, So
- 1:02:43Speaker 8: I had a really, really good time, and I'm looking
- 1:02:44Speaker 8: forward to doing some more kind of creating material as well.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: Party going on next door. It's always over at Dragon Age.
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: I'd like to know, what are your thoughts on your
- 1:02:57Speaker 8: character arc over the course of the show? I would
- 1:03:02Speaker 8: say that, like I mentioned, I feel, like, honored to
- 1:03:08Speaker 8: play a character that was a freak. and loved being
- 1:03:11Speaker 8: a freak. Ultimately, she didn't like it to begin with.
- 1:03:13Speaker 8: Like I think most of us feel when we feel
- 1:03:16Speaker 8: targeted or alienated. Um, but she ended up using that
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: to her advantage and finding all the strengths that came
- 1:03:23Speaker 8: with that. Um, it's a really unusual hero. And people
- 1:03:28Speaker 8: say to me, what superhero would you like to play?
- 1:03:30Speaker 8: And I think, I feel like I played one. Liv's
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: like the coolest superhero to me.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: She's very, yeah. And she's real.
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: And like, You know, as much as it's a silly
- 1:03:38Speaker 8: comedy about zombies, it's like this very grounded person who
- 1:03:42Speaker 8: is struggling with a bit of an identity crisis and
- 1:03:45Speaker 8: ultimately comes out of this show, I feel like, knowing
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: her identity. And that's kind of all we can hope for,
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: I think, in life. So, yeah, I feel very good
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: about the opportunity to play her. And to play, often
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: right now, I think, strong women are mistakenly kind of
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: portrayed as tough and that you have to be quite
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: like have a very masculine energy in order to be
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: a strong woman.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: And I'm just like, that's so limiting.
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: This is a person who's able to be vulnerable and
- 1:04:13Speaker 8: have masculine elements and feminine elements and just be a complicated,
- 1:04:17Speaker 8: real person. And I think that to me is exciting
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: for the girls to be able to look up to
- 1:04:22Speaker 8: and see this person who it's not.
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: She doesn't have to be tough. She can be, she
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: can ask for help too. And that's strong. So yeah,
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: I really, I love, love playing.
- 1:04:32Speaker 9: In what universe isn't Tinkerbell a superhero?
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: Great question.
- 1:04:37Speaker 8: I always thought that is the one brain that I
- 1:04:38Speaker 8: thought would be really good, is live a Tinkerbell's brain.
- 1:04:40Speaker 9: A little appetizer.
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: I know, exactly. Yeah, just a little one. Just a
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: tiny little morsel.
- 1:04:46Speaker 8: When can you miss it?
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: But, yeah, I would have loved to do that. I
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: don't think those universes could cross over. Who knows who
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: owns what properties? I don't get how that stuff works.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: I pitched it, though.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: In fan fiction, I mean that.
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: Exactly. I'm sure somebody's done a little Tinkerbell brain. I've
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: got to track that down.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: On that identity crisis, I mean, going in, you knew
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: the premise, but how prepared were you for how much
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: you were going.
- 1:05:09Speaker 15: To have to throw at, I mean, every week?
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: It's kind of a dream for an actress, but at
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: the same time, there's a lot throwing at you. Were
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: you prepared and how wrong were you by the end
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: of that?
- 1:05:19Speaker 8: I had absolutely no idea, which was probably very lucky
- 1:05:21Speaker 8: because it could be very intimidating.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: Yes, it is a dream.
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: It's like, you know, going into the sort of tickle
- 1:05:28Speaker 8: trunk or whatever you call it. Do you guys know
- 1:05:30Speaker 8: that word?
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: Whereas, like, costumes, I think it's... You do?
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: I think it's a Canadian thing. That's what they used
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: to say out there a lot.
- 1:05:36Speaker 8: But being able to go in and, like, pull out
- 1:05:39Speaker 8: a different costume each week and play this different thing,
- 1:05:41Speaker 8: it's really fun, but it is definitely an intimidating prospect.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: So I was quite happy that we moved so quickly.
- 1:05:48Speaker 8: I didn't have time to think, really, or get too
- 1:05:51Speaker 8: intimidated by it. And, yeah, I don't think they knew either,
- 1:05:55Speaker 8: going into it, quite how much, because it wasn't something
- 1:05:57Speaker 8: from the comic that was... very heavily focused on, and
- 1:06:00Speaker 8: it just became a device that worked so well for
- 1:06:02Speaker 8: the show. And one other thing I would say is
- 1:06:05Speaker 8: that we have been so supported by Chris Robertson and
- 1:06:07Speaker 8: Michael Allred who created iZombie the comic, and that has
- 1:06:10Speaker 8: been just the biggest blessing because when the person of
- 1:06:13Speaker 8: the original property gets behind all the departures you've made
- 1:06:17Speaker 8: from their material as well and recognizes that it needs
- 1:06:20Speaker 8: to work differently in order to work as a TV
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: show but still have the heart or some of the
- 1:06:25Speaker 8: concepts from the thing, it's just been like, such a
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: blessing and kind of rare by the sounds of things
- 1:06:30Speaker 8: that it's, it's championed by those people.
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: So I'm very grateful to them. Um, did you get
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: to keep anything from the set?
- 1:06:37Speaker 8: Ali Meshalka, who plays Peyton, um, secured the head that's
- 1:06:41Speaker 8: on our mantelpiece where it's.
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: Like, um, I think it's like an Egyptian headdress.
- 1:06:45Speaker 8: I'm not sure exactly, but she's green and white head
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: that sat on Liv and Peyton's mantelpiece. And she took
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: that from me. So it's sitting on my mantelpiece. I
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: normally don't take too much from shows. Cause otherwise you
- 1:06:56Speaker 8: can end up with like.
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: A museum of a house.
- 1:06:58Speaker 8: And I also feel a little self-conscious about that. Like
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: in my own home, be like, here's.
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: My head from my zombie. That was one that like
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: nobody knows. So it just looks like a piece of art,
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:07:09Speaker 8: I don't know if you've asked this, what is your
- 1:07:11Speaker 8: least favorite brain?
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: Um, the Archie Bunker kind of brain. It was like
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: this very racist, bigoted brain. It worked as an episode.
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: It was good. It just turns out it's less fun
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: playing an unlikable character. Who would have guessed, right? I've
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: been so spoiled.
- 1:07:26Speaker 8: I get to always play the sort of, it's a
- 1:07:28Speaker 8: person we want to root for and that was not
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: a character you want to.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: Root for alright well we can go and wrap that
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: up thank you so much you guys I really appreciate
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: it it was so fun.
- 1:07:37Speaker 14: It was very cool.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: And adorable.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: And adorable. There we go. She was very nice. Again,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: it was very brief when I met her that first
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: time at the table. So this was, you know, we
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: sort of stopped afterwards. And she talked to everybody. And
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: she was very nice. And she took photos. And we
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: did a group photo. It was actually really cool. So
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: it was a nice little press event. I usually don't, like,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: bond with other media people. But this was a nice little, again,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: everyone getting along at this event. It's very strange. It's
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: not the world I'm used to.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Geeks all getting along it's craziness but yeah rose was
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: awesome so thank you to rose for partaking in all
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: of this and and thanks to dragon con for letting
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: me be part of it because it was really cool
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: and i still again you heard it did i not
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: have a good idea the rest of the media people
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: all jumped on board they were like this is great
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: we're gonna put together a themed restaurant around eating brains Again,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: you just get Rose up there in a chef hat.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: It's gonna look adorable people will jump on board pop-up
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: shops at every convention we're gonna make a fortune guys
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: just let's come on we just need some backers let's
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: get this going so.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Eating brains I would go there.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Yeah that's what I'm saying every geek would be like
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: well alright I'll try it like that's why it's gonna
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: work as a pop-up shop you don't need it to
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: be long term you just take it to where the
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: geeks are everybody wants to try it and then you
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: know you've made a fortune so I think it's.
- 1:09:20Speaker 7: A great idea.
- 1:09:21Speaker 9: It's a winner.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Send in funding now.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Patreon.com.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, feel free to send it all through Patreon. Patreon.com
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: slash MovieMeltdown.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Good deal.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 1:09:34Speaker 13: All right.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: So, it has been quite a weekend. Um, I, I
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: did get a high five from Spider-Man earlier.
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Okay. I, um, I was trying to run down some
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: of the, the fine moments along the way. I, I
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: did when we were out at the, uh, you, you
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: experienced the parade this morning.
- 1:09:51Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: I was standing there and there was somebody like sort
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: of looming behind me. And this other person was like, um,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Excuse us. And I turn around and this like nine
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: foot creature is like looming behind me trying to like
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: slowly make his way through the crowd. I was like, dude,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: that is impressive. He was some sort of mech of
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: something or other. Again, it almost seemed like their own creation.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Like I wasn't even 100% sure where he came from,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: but damn, he was impressive. The other thing, so yeah,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: the parade was pretty impressive. I wasn't even planning, again,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: it just timed out where I ended up there in
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: the middle of the craziness.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Because, yeah, yesterday I was asked, like, are you going
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: to the parade? And I was like, I don't, do
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: I ever need to go to a parade? I don't know.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: You gotta go to the parade. But I was, like,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: I was surprised how, like, how fun like again i
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: i've seen parades and i'm always kind of like eh
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: whatever but this one like there was just so much
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: like work put into it and like yes again so
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: many people that just aren't even connected to them they
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: just like signed up and wanted to be part of
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: it and put so much work into their costumes and
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: whatever giant car they were driving and they built a
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: sandcrawler for god's sake that was it was amazing like
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: i just looked up and was like oh my god
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: that's Almost a full-scale, life-size sand crawler coming down the street.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: Right, down Peachtree Street in Atlanta. It was pretty amazing.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: We had this gigantic sand crawler going down. That was
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: the highlight.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: It was pretty impressive, I gotta say. So, yeah, there's
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: a lot of work put into that. And I just
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: sort of stumbled in the middle of, oh, here's the parade. Oh, wow.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: This is so impressive. So, yeah, the amount of people
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: involved in that is just crazy.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Yeah. And it changes every year. Like, uh, one year
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: there was some kind of like national effort for all
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: the storm troopers to show up. And so in the
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: middle of downtown, it looked like an Imperial invasion. It
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: was like, uh, an entire battalion of storm troopers. I
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: did see that.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: Star destroyer hanging over the city on the news. I
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: wondered what that was.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: You would not have been surprised to look up and
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: see the star destroyer because it was, it was surreal
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: seeing that many storm troopers all in one spot, you know? And, uh, And,
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: and so, you know, and then one year, one year,
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: the highlight was like DJ Vader or something like that. Like, like, uh, uh, like, uh, Vader, like, uh,
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: spinning platters and like, you know, just like, I mean.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: I'd be on board for that. Who doesn't want Vader? Like,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: you know, rocking out some tunes.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: Oh man. Yeah. Yeah. The, the, the parade for me
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: is always like the highlight of the thing. And in
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: the last couple of years, honestly, it's just been come downtown.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: see the parade, sneak away. All right. And, uh, and, uh,
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: so yeah, yeah. So yeah.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: To, to bring me around on a parade is pretty impressive.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: And I gotta say, I, I would have totally fought
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: it had I not, you know, just ended up there
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: and like, I, yeah, I, I'm like, if I'm coming back,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I have no problem seeing the parade now. It was like,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: that was impressive. So I'm, I'm all for it.
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: Brian enjoyed a parade.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, really. He would have seen that. The other thing, again,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: we've played this game many a time on our shows
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: because we're at conventions. We're always like, let's pick a
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: thing and be like, all right. Especially the thing that's
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: so huge. We'll be like, Deadpool. We'll start counting how
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: many Deadpools we see all day. Or we're going to
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: count Harley Quinns. We've played that, but it usually gets
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: away from us because it's so overwhelming. I was not
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: prepared when I started this. I first threw out, because
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: I'm waiting in line for their check-in, and the person
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: in front of us has a shirt on that has
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: something in Stranger Things font. And then the next, like,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: two seconds later, somebody walks past and has something else
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: in Stranger Things font. I'm like, okay, we're going to
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: go with our Stranger Things, like, on a t-shirt with
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: some sort of weird, either just a generic Stranger Things
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: shirt or a bastardized form of it.
- 1:13:43Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: And so I'm going with that, and I start counting out,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: and I'm getting, you know, already, by the time we
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: get inside, it's like, you know, six or eight. And
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: then I hit another... extra level that i was not
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: thinking of and i guess if you would ask me
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: beforehand i want to oh yeah i'm gonna see a
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: ton of those but i hadn't thought of it and
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: i got inside and i got my first pair of
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: people in full-on scoops ahoy uniform oh and i was
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: like oh yeah that's gonna be this year like that's
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: gonna be the uniform for this year's dragon con like
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: it is and i like very quickly lost count Like
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: at that point, I was just like, well, I guess
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: we have to have a subsection of like full on
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: Scoops Ahoy uniforms. And then within an hour, I was
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: so overwhelmed. It's astronomical. I can't, I can't. My favorite,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: I saw a couple later, but my first one, the
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: first girl that I saw that also came equipped with
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: a dry erase board that had the you suck count.
- 1:14:40Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: That was a nice accessory. The rest were just kind
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: of wearing the uniform, but the one that came with
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: the dry erase board that had the running count going
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: on it, I was like, you know, that's a nice add-on.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I like that.
- 1:14:52Speaker 15: Bonus points to you.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Scoops Ahoy. Far and away was the runaway costume to
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: have this year. It's all about Scoops Ahoy.
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: That's interesting. I didn't see one, but you know what?
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: The second I walked in, I shut down.
- 1:15:10Speaker 10: You.
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: I shut down completely.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Again, in the real world, I don't know how you
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: normally operate, but... I was assuming you were going to
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: go maybe catatonic. I assumed a fetal position was coming
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: and you were going to be freaking out.
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: I was trying to mentally bilocate and everything.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Again, you haven't been in several years, so it's become
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: astronomically bigger since last you were immersed in it. I
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: don't blame you. It's a lot to take in.
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: I'm used to the 12 people I see every day. And,
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: you know, this, that. I mean, I got a nice
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: little routine ritual going on here. And, yeah, going into
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: the midst of 70,000 people. Maybe 75. I don't know
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: what the running count was. It was, uh, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: And you know, it's a little overwhelming for people, especially
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: people who are like very introverted and don't go out
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: in the world much like all of us kind of,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: it's who we are.
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: This was about it for me and everything.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: So, uh, but yes, it's, it's, it's an amazing undertaking
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: and the fact that it comes together and goes off
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: without a hitch and all the, as previously stated, the
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: geeks get along and it's, it's just, it's amazing to
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: witness firsthand. So, I'm glad I was a part of it,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: if nothing else. But as an extra bonus, I'm glad
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: I got to come to this city and hang out

- 1:17:40Speaker 1: you need to get out into an open space with
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: not so many people, we can go outside.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: It's cool.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: It's cool.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: Right, right. I needed some air.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: I witnessed my parade of geeks, both inside and out.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: And I was just like, it's cool. I've seen plenty today.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: We can go out into the world. So we went out,
