Latest / Bleacher Report / Micah Parsons: Jayden Daniels Probably Cost Dan Quinn His Job After Botched Final Play vs. Giants
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels probably cost my man Dan quitting his job,
- 0:03Speaker 1: to be honest with you.
- 0:04Speaker 2: That's tough.
- 0:06Speaker 1: To be honest with you. And, like, I'm a big
- 0:08Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels fan. But the reality is, like, he probably
- 0:11Speaker 1: cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend.
- 0:14Speaker 2: So you put none of that on the coaches here?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Hey, bro, and all respectfully, we get coached so much
- 0:24Speaker 1: on these situations that, like, I'm a defensive player, and
- 0:27Speaker 1: this is programmed in me. I know what to do
- 0:30Speaker 1: in those situations. 100%. There's no way I'm taking a
- 0:33Speaker 1: sack with 14 seconds of no timeouts. And mind you,
- 0:39Speaker 1: it would be different if Jaden Daniels was a rookie.
- 0:42Speaker 1: This is your third year. This is your third year.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You've been to the NFC Championship game. You've been in
- 0:47Speaker 2: big moments before. And to me, Like, even after a sack,
- 0:52Speaker 2: you're casually getting up. That was the thing that frustrated
- 0:55Speaker 2: me the most. I'm like, you just took a sack
- 0:57Speaker 2: with 14. Like, look at the play. Like, I'm not
- 1:00Speaker 2: mad what you did.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Cool. Do it.
- 1:02Speaker 2: But look, like, he's not even urgently getting up. But
- 1:06Speaker 2: think about it. It's not just him. This is what's
- 1:08Speaker 2: so confusing about this. There's a receiver who was back
- 1:10Speaker 2: there at the 10-yard line who was just chit-chatting with
- 1:13Speaker 2: a DB from the Giants.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Like, that is disgusting, bro.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think that the
- 1:21Speaker 2: quarterback is responsible for being the co-pilot. He's the co-pilot.
- 1:28Speaker 2: The head coach to me is a pilot. You don't
- 1:30Speaker 2: call plays on offense. You don't call plays on defense.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I need to be talking to my offensive coordinator. Hey,
- 1:35Speaker 2: let's just spike it. They could have took the clock
- 1:38Speaker 2: down to 10 seconds, spiked the ball. We're not dealing
- 1:40Speaker 2: with any of this right now.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. That's not the situation that
- 1:45Speaker 1: we want to do because– It was next score wins regardless.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Like, but my thing is, like, at that situation, it's
- 1:52Speaker 1: just like I put more weight on it.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Like, if people are going to say QBs want to
- 1:59Speaker 2: lose games, and as you can see, they just won
- 2:01Speaker 2: or lost the game on the QB hands, this is
- 2:03Speaker 2: your job, bro. Get paid a lot of money.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Like, this is your job to be prepared, to understand
- 2:10Speaker 1: the game, and understand situations. That's in your job profile.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And you're telling me, oh, we're going to pay this
- 2:16Speaker 1: guy eventually $ 60 million? This cannot happen.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It's tough as a head coach to see a situation
- 2:27Speaker 2: like that.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And Jaden Davis is in contract here. That's not what
- 2:29Speaker 1: I want to put on tape.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I didn't love how he handled the press conference after
- 2:35Speaker 2: the game.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I would have liked to see more accountability in myself.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Extreme ownership.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And I'm a player. You know, I'm a big JD5 fan. But, like,
- 2:43Speaker 1: that's inexcusable, bro. Like, the lack of urgency. Like, that's something, like,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I would have had to say something in the locker room. Like,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I would have had to come talk to him. Like, yo, like,
- 2:56Speaker 1: that's not okay.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So, you see what the old lineman Chris Paul said. Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 2: we talk about this in the huddle. For them to
- 3:03Speaker 2: talk about that in the huddle. then still go out
- 3:05Speaker 2: there and execute the way they did.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I'm going to say there's not a coach in America,
- 3:12Speaker 1: even Coach Sean Homer said it a couple weeks ago,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I probably overly coached, and this is why you overly coach,
- 3:19Speaker 1: not to do stupid things like that. This is why
- 3:21Speaker 1: you overly coach, because you lose games off of that.
- 3:23Speaker 2: But, like, this is just, like, there's no way that
- 3:29Speaker 2: they didn't say, hey, this is the situation here. How
- 3:32Speaker 2: much time, so you mentioned it a little bit earlier,
- 3:36Speaker 2: how much time in NFL meetings, practices, all those things,
- 3:41Speaker 2: are you guys talking about situations like this?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Every day. Really? Every day. Like on Wednesday, we bring up,
- 3:50Speaker 1: you know, end of half, four-minute drill. Like we talk
- 3:55Speaker 1: about it. Thursdays, we literally do two-minute situations. We change
- 4:00Speaker 1: the clock, change the time. change the point differential, they
- 4:04Speaker 1: need a scorer, got to have a situation, whatever. We
- 4:07Speaker 1: do those situations every week. On Fridays, red zone situations,
- 4:11Speaker 1: we talk about it. What's the mindset? Oh, we don't
- 4:15Speaker 1: push the ball, we don't reach unless we need the seven.
- 4:19Speaker 1: If not, keep it tucked. Like, we talk about these situations.
- 4:22Speaker 1: When you want to reach, when you don't want to reach.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Four-minute drill, what's the mindset? Protect the ball, stay in bounds.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Protect the ball, stay in bounds. Like, we go through
- 4:31Speaker 1: all these situations every week, so there's no way that
- 4:34Speaker 1: you don't know these situations. We even go through mock games, like,
- 4:39Speaker 1: where we walk through these situations. So it's like, to me, like,
- 4:44Speaker 1: this is a lack of preparation, a lack of mentality,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and a lack of urgency by the man on campus.
- 4:50Speaker 1: That just can't happen.
