- 1:09Speaker 4: Evan told me he has a lot of experience making
- 1:12Speaker 4: the turkey, really, which it's baffling to me that he
- 1:14Speaker 4: would be put in charge of something like that.
- 1:16Speaker 5: But one of them and Palix, you might help me
- 1:21Speaker 5: with a na latitis lativius or something like that. I
- 1:26Speaker 5: think he's got center.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Marcus Jones textedt a VP said he could snap who's.
- 1:30Speaker 5: The other guy on the roster, like backup linemen that
- 1:33Speaker 5: has some center experience?
- 1:34Speaker 6: To Smith, that was I was.
- 1:36Speaker 5: I think I said, let's eat it.
- 1:40Speaker 3: The sharps know something in this game. I don't know
- 1:42Speaker 3: what it is. What's something.
- 1:45Speaker 6: You know somebody's gonna win.
- 1:46Speaker 4: It's hard to be ugly as a woman in twenty
- 1:48Speaker 4: twenty four because there's so many things you can do.
- 1:50Speaker 4: There's makeup, there's procedures like it's photox, like, I don't
- 1:55Speaker 4: know if you're not trying.
- 1:57Speaker 5: You're just not Have you given up? Honey?
- 2:00Speaker 3: How come then you only eat turkey one day a year?

- 2:16Speaker 3: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 2:20Speaker 3: at Gillette Stadium. It's bye week here, but we still
- 2:23Speaker 3: have a lot to talk about. We need to wrap
- 2:25Speaker 3: up Sunday's game. I would say a real it's one
- 2:29Speaker 3: that got away. Yeah, it's one that got away. They
- 2:32Speaker 3: had this. We talked about this on the post game show.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Paul Deuce, Evan'll be here, Matt's in the booth. They
- 2:39Speaker 3: could have taken control of the game in the first
- 2:42Speaker 3: half and they just didn't do it.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, they were the better team I thought for
- 2:46Speaker 5: basically the entirety the sixty minutes. And you're right that
- 2:49Speaker 5: the two for six in the red zone inability to
- 2:52Speaker 5: maximize the scoring opportunities ultimately came back and bit them
- 2:56Speaker 5: at the end when they couldn't come up with a stop.
- 2:58Speaker 5: But yeah, the game was You're gonna go down to
- 3:02Speaker 5: the last play of the game and all that, but
- 3:05Speaker 5: they should have had at least a two score lead,
- 3:07Speaker 5: if not more.
- 3:08Speaker 8: Yeah, so easy to break down. I feel like red
- 3:10Speaker 8: zone penalties, the last drive. Yeahah, those are the critical
- 3:14Speaker 8: points of the game. And yeah, just that last drive
- 3:17Speaker 8: just bugs me. I mean watching it yesterday again, watching
- 3:19Speaker 8: it back, and they just couldn't They couldn't get off
- 3:22Speaker 8: the field that Christianella said, we needed one guy to
- 3:24Speaker 8: step up and make a play, and I didn't.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I mean, you know, there's been a lot of games
- 3:28Speaker 3: over the last couple of years when the Patriots win,
- 3:31Speaker 3: you know, we say, you know, was that really a
- 3:33Speaker 3: Page's win or did the other team just play poorly?
- 3:35Speaker 3: I wonder in Indianapolis if they're saying that, is that
- 3:38Speaker 3: a Colts winner? Did the Patriots just play poorly, you know?
- 3:42Speaker 3: Or did they Yeah?
- 3:43Speaker 5: And I don't think the Patriots played poorly. I just
- 3:45Speaker 5: don't think they give it to us. Yeah, I do
- 3:48Speaker 5: think that and it's it's one of those things because
- 3:51Speaker 5: I actually think the offense played the best game they've
- 3:52Speaker 5: played all year.
- 3:54Speaker 3: That's why, that's the fact.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Yeah, but I thought that like it it looked that
- 3:58Speaker 5: way too. They literally marched the ball on every single
- 4:02Speaker 5: drive except for the two following the turnovers, and like
- 4:06Speaker 5: it just was a killer.
- 4:08Speaker 3: And I know that we're not blaming refs for the loss,
- 4:11Speaker 3: but I look back at the Gonzales pick. It was
- 4:17Speaker 3: a clear face mask that should have been another fifteen
- 4:20Speaker 3: yards that would have changed. Obviously the position would.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Have run the ball twice since no attle.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Closer, but they would have automatic.
- 4:29Speaker 5: I thought he did hit him in the face. There's
- 4:31Speaker 5: no question Listen that crew struggles in general, but I'm
- 4:36Speaker 5: not going to go to a penalty that they didn't call.
- 4:39Speaker 5: They did what they did offensively. I just think the
- 4:41Speaker 5: mindset Fred that really bothered me. And we're going to
- 4:43Speaker 5: get into a lot of these things, you know when
- 4:45Speaker 5: we talk about the game. But it is eight minutes
- 4:47Speaker 5: left in the game, and I feel like their goal
- 4:50Speaker 5: was to milk clock right and I think the goal
- 4:53Speaker 5: should have been points, which just reminded me of did
- 4:59Speaker 5: you ever send back the mail bag because I didn't
- 5:01Speaker 5: send anything to Chris. So Chris, if you're listening upstairs.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Nail bag is approved.
- 5:06Speaker 5: I'll get your mail bag and i'll get you the
- 5:08Speaker 5: notes at two o'clock. Maybe when we take a break,
- 5:11Speaker 5: I'll run and give them to you.
- 5:12Speaker 8: I think the phrase that popped into my head with
- 5:14Speaker 8: that with it, it was just it wasn't hard to take
- 5:15Speaker 8: it from the Patriots.
- 5:16Speaker 6: That's what it was like.
- 5:17Speaker 8: They had it for maybe a second, but they didn't
- 5:19Speaker 8: do enough at the end to to hold on to
- 5:21Speaker 8: it and to make it hard on the Colts.
- 5:23Speaker 3: And I mean, so I know everyone's killing the Patriots
- 5:28Speaker 3: and the coaches for the two runs in the sack,
- 5:33Speaker 3: and that's an indication of milking clock rather than trying
- 5:37Speaker 3: to move the ball. But in their minds, could they
- 5:41Speaker 3: well see, I just can't justify it. But I know
- 5:44Speaker 3: that they thought that they were running the ball well
- 5:47Speaker 3: all game.
- 5:48Speaker 5: But that might be true, but you were throwing the
- 5:50Speaker 5: ball well all game.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Well that's why I just stopped myself, because they were
- 5:53Speaker 3: also throwing the ball well too. So is it a
- 5:56Speaker 3: fifty to fifty things?
- 5:57Speaker 5: So if you want to run it on first down
- 5:59Speaker 5: because you're running the ball well all day. Fine, Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 5: you didn't run it well on first down, so you're
- 6:03Speaker 5: gonna do something different. I said this on Sunday. Second
- 6:06Speaker 5: and eight in the NFL is not a running down,
- 6:08Speaker 5: It's not.
- 6:09Speaker 8: I think it goes to the aggressiveness thing that that's
- 6:11Speaker 8: a theme that they've been kind of getting hit with
- 6:12Speaker 8: that throw the ball. Drake's playing well, Put the game
- 6:15Speaker 8: on the kid. Let him go win or lose with
- 6:17Speaker 8: his arm. That's what I was willing to do in
- 6:19Speaker 8: that game.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Like big picture of things like I know that we've
- 6:22Speaker 5: made a lot and the three of us kind of agree.
- 6:25Speaker 5: You know, if they win six games, five games, four games,
- 6:28Speaker 5: it doesn't really matter to us that much because we
- 6:33Speaker 5: understand where they are limitations wise with the roster. I
- 6:36Speaker 5: think this game on Sunday was a little different. I
- 6:39Speaker 5: think this kind of a game, you need to win
- 6:42Speaker 5: that game for a lot of reasons. Number one, you
- 6:44Speaker 5: played better than the other team. But at some point
- 6:48Speaker 5: you need to have some tangible results to show your players,
- 6:51Speaker 5: and I think when you're not getting any actual wins
- 6:56Speaker 5: to create that culture that Gerardmeo says is difficult to create.
- 7:00Speaker 5: He says it takes some time. That's a lost opportunity
- 7:03Speaker 5: to start doing that that game.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Plus this is probably their last best chance.
- 7:07Speaker 5: That's true too, But like I just look at it
- 7:10Speaker 5: as they haven't, Like I didn't look at the The
- 7:14Speaker 5: Tennessee game to me was like this game, only Tennessee
- 7:19Speaker 5: was the Patriots. In the Tennessee game, you know, it
- 7:22Speaker 5: was a game that could have gone either way, Like
- 7:23Speaker 5: the Patriots could have gone for two and stolen.
- 7:25Speaker 3: The game at the whoa, oh, we just lost our lights.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I don't know what happened.
- 7:30Speaker 5: I'm gonna guess that we're not on the air too.
- 7:32Speaker 3: But are we on the air? Are we still on air?
- 7:34Speaker 5: We are still okay, well, we'll keep going.
- 7:36Speaker 3: We're in the dark.
- 7:37Speaker 5: But I thought there was some similarities to the Tennessee game,
- 7:40Speaker 5: almost in reverse. Yeah, like the Patriots could have gone
- 7:43Speaker 5: for two at the end and stolen the game the
- 7:44Speaker 5: way the Colts did. But the Titans really I thought
- 7:50Speaker 5: were the better team over the course of the sixty minutes.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Sure this is the opposite. So I wasn't like I
- 7:56Speaker 5: was disappointed that they didn't go for two, so we
- 7:57Speaker 5: because we didn't get to see that. But I was
- 8:00Speaker 5: way more disappointed as you know, as like just a
- 8:04Speaker 5: watch watching the game of this loss, because I felt
- 8:07Speaker 5: like they absolutely were in control of this game. Fred's
- 8:13Speaker 5: was laughing at me because like, I haven't had this
- 8:15Speaker 5: feeling in a long time. Like I really thought like
- 8:17Speaker 5: at the end of the game, they're gonna win. They're not,
- 8:20Speaker 5: They're not gonna score. The Patriots are gonna start Like
- 8:22Speaker 5: I don't know why I felt like that, but I
- 8:24Speaker 5: just felt like that day, the Patriots were that much
- 8:27Speaker 5: better than the Colts. Yeah, and they still couldn't win.
- 8:30Speaker 8: I just I felt bad about the defense going into it,
- 8:32Speaker 8: and that was you know, putting it all on them
- 8:34Speaker 8: at the end, and you hope that they were going
- 8:35Speaker 8: to be able to step up. But you know, I
- 8:37Speaker 8: think they they had a couple turnovers, But I just
- 8:40Speaker 8: think when you stack up the two sides, the offense
- 8:43Speaker 8: has made some strides this year. Like I find it
- 8:44Speaker 8: really hard to say, like Alex Van pelt out, like
- 8:47Speaker 8: how can you look at.
- 8:48Speaker 5: What Drake I thought they had done great game with
- 8:50Speaker 5: the exception of that, you know.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Is there a chance that Drake may saw maybe a
- 8:57Speaker 3: lighter you know, are heavier, I'm sorry, a lighter box
- 9:01Speaker 3: and audibled into a run.
- 9:04Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, I'm not going to eliminate any possibilities
- 9:07Speaker 5: that I have no idea about. Yeah, I mean absolutely
- 9:10Speaker 5: there's a chance of that.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Ye possible. But I think there's showing elements of creativity.
- 9:13Speaker 5: You know.
- 9:14Speaker 8: Look, it's not perfect yet, but we talk about having
- 9:17Speaker 8: a little bit of patience with a new staff. I mean,
- 9:18Speaker 8: I think this is where you're looking at all. Right,
- 9:20Speaker 8: we've been patient with Alex van Pell. Maybe he wasn't
- 9:22Speaker 8: doing all the things that we wanted, but he's gotten
- 9:25Speaker 8: our young quarterback to a place where he looks really good.
- 9:27Speaker 8: Everyone in the league has taken notice of this kid.
- 9:30Speaker 8: So for me, I say, continue to let that guy develop.
- 9:33Speaker 8: But at the same time, you look at the defense
- 9:35Speaker 8: that already had pieces and let's face it, a lot
- 9:37Speaker 8: of holdover from Bill. These are Bill's guys on the
- 9:39Speaker 8: defensive side of the.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Ball, and it feels for those guys too.
- 9:43Speaker 6: I saw that.
- 9:44Speaker 8: I saw that, and I feel that he had and
- 9:46Speaker 8: he had to say, they resigned all my guys again.
- 9:49Speaker 6: So you heard that from Lombardi Space.
- 9:52Speaker 5: Theater.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I take a trip to the old man.
- 9:55Speaker 9: No.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Uh, Now we're gonna have to freeze.
- 9:59Speaker 8: But yeah, I mean I I I caught that thing
- 10:02Speaker 8: with Bill and you heard the same hits that he
- 10:04Speaker 8: obviously was saying to Lombardi about they brought all my
- 10:06Speaker 8: guys back, right, Well, we.
- 10:07Speaker 6: Brought all your guys back.
- 10:08Speaker 10: Why do they think, like, why isn't it going right?
- 10:10Speaker 6: Like you still mean?
- 10:11Speaker 5: They're just watching the pregame show Sunday, Mike, someone asked
- 10:15Speaker 5: us if we felt like there were more more players
- 10:18Speaker 5: on offense or defense, more good players. I think we
- 10:21Speaker 5: both agreed, if you're gonna just individually, there's more on defense, yeah, right,
- 10:26Speaker 5: you know, I don't know if they have a tremendous
- 10:27Speaker 5: amount of town on either side of the ball, but
- 10:29Speaker 5: there's more on defense.
- 10:31Speaker 6: And it's not playing.
- 10:32Speaker 8: It's not playing up to, you know, even the level
- 10:34Speaker 8: that they were at last year for a lot of
- 10:35Speaker 8: those guys. And you know, certainly with Peppers coming back
- 10:38Speaker 8: in Barmore, it starts to put a little bit more
- 10:40Speaker 8: of a light on Well, is it about injuries or
- 10:42Speaker 8: is it just that this defense isn't all on the
- 10:44Speaker 8: same page.
- 10:45Speaker 3: We got we got workers working behind us here, engineers
- 10:48Speaker 3: coming in pulling apart things.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Paul's coughing up along.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I can't believe a little space eater tripped.
- 10:53Speaker 6: Up the A lot of amps. I think a lot
- 10:55Speaker 6: of amps, I guess.
- 10:56Speaker 5: So all right, Yeah, but I did think it was
- 11:00Speaker 5: a frustrating loss just because the offense, what MIC's out like,
- 11:03Speaker 5: the offense played so well, Yeah, and to only get
- 11:06Speaker 5: twenty four points with all those drives like they should
- 11:09Speaker 5: have had at least this, This should have snapped your
- 11:12Speaker 5: thirty point streak, Mike, Yeah, this should have been.
- 11:14Speaker 3: The game forty one?
- 11:15Speaker 6: What is it now? Forty one? Forty one game?
- 11:18Speaker 3: Are you all right?
- 11:19Speaker 5: I'm gonna step out for a second.
- 11:21Speaker 3: I keep I keep predicting a thirty one point for
- 11:24Speaker 3: the Patriots. You want to get there.
- 11:25Speaker 6: Can't get there, No, just can't get there.
- 11:27Speaker 10: And they should have though, you know.
- 11:28Speaker 8: And that's something Paul and I talked about on on Unfiltered,
- 11:31Speaker 8: was just like, what do they do in the red zone?
- 11:32Speaker 3: How do they close it?
- 11:34Speaker 6: What are you born in a barn?
- 11:36Speaker 3: Hold on just going outside?
- 11:38Speaker 5: All right?
- 11:38Speaker 6: Now, it's just now, it's just deuce. It's just chaos here.
- 11:44Speaker 6: During the bye week, things are falling apart here.
- 11:46Speaker 8: The Circus music with the Benny Hillton. Uh yeah, So
- 11:52Speaker 8: now it's it was tough tough to swallow that one.
- 11:54Speaker 8: And uh, you know it's it's we got the bye week.
- 11:57Speaker 8: Now see what they what they come up with. They're
- 11:59Speaker 8: practicing out there right now.
- 12:00Speaker 3: So yeah, see Pepper's back. How did he do?
- 12:05Speaker 6: Okay?
- 12:06Speaker 10: I mean I would have liked to him got that
- 12:07Speaker 10: fourth down sack.
- 12:08Speaker 6: You know when he came in.
- 12:09Speaker 3: It was just a little late and his decision. Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 3: it kind of reminded me of the schooler one that
- 12:14Speaker 3: he actually did make the sack in Chicago where he
- 12:18Speaker 3: sees what's going on and then he goes. But he
- 12:21Speaker 3: was just you know, a couple of steps late, uh
- 12:24Speaker 3: in his decision to to go. So that was unfortunate.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I you know, I just can't get over the fact
- 12:32Speaker 3: that they did play very well on offense. I think
- 12:36Speaker 3: it was Drake May's best game. You know, he spread
- 12:40Speaker 3: the ball around, everybody kind of contributed, you know, Gibson,
- 12:44Speaker 3: I think it was his best game running.
- 12:47Speaker 5: And they just.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Couldn't get to win. And and you know, you'll see
- 12:52Speaker 3: it on the PU Show. But you know, eighty percent
- 12:56Speaker 3: of games in the NFL end up eight points or less.
- 13:01Speaker 3: You know, so I really I don't like it when
- 13:06Speaker 3: Girod says, well, this is the NFL. You know, no, no, no,
- 13:09Speaker 3: this is not the NFL. This is your team this year.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Your team isn't a team that you know does the
- 13:17Speaker 3: things to win the game. Your team right now is
- 13:20Speaker 3: a team that does the things to lose the game,
- 13:23Speaker 3: right And that's the hump you need to get over.
- 13:25Speaker 3: You know, It's not a points thing, it's not a
- 13:28Speaker 3: defensive points allowed thing. It's a mistake thing. You know,
- 13:32Speaker 3: it's coming up, you know, in the big moments with
- 13:36Speaker 3: the right decision, the right play. And that's that's what's
- 13:40Speaker 3: separating now the Patriots from you know, three and eight,
- 13:43Speaker 3: are you know, closer to five hundred so and you know,
- 13:46Speaker 3: so forget about the points. You know, you know, there's
- 13:50Speaker 3: no solace in losing close games right now because you're
- 13:54Speaker 3: losing all the close games. And that's who you are
- 13:57Speaker 3: right now, And that's the hump they need to get over.
- 14:00Speaker 8: Well, that's the question I'm wondering about Fred and you,
- 14:02Speaker 8: I mean your team, I mean, I guess you've been
- 14:04Speaker 8: here through it, Like do you do you subscribe to
- 14:07Speaker 8: the theory that a team needs to learn how to win,
- 14:09Speaker 8: Like is that you know what I mean?
- 14:10Speaker 6: Like, I don't know.
- 14:11Speaker 8: I like because Brady came in and oh one, and
- 14:13Speaker 8: they just kind of seem to know how to win.
- 14:15Speaker 8: And I hate comparing things to Brady, but.
- 14:18Speaker 6: But I agree with your point.
- 14:19Speaker 8: And that was one of my rants on Patriots on
- 14:21Speaker 8: Filter on TV check it out Thursday. It's just I'm
- 14:24Speaker 8: sick of hearing hows my bad on that one?
- 14:27Speaker 3: You know?
- 14:27Speaker 8: And Michael and Winnu this week with the third down
- 14:29Speaker 8: where yeah, Drake audible to play and I, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 8: and I didn't.
- 14:32Speaker 6: I didn't hear it and I went still to the
- 14:33Speaker 6: left side.
- 14:34Speaker 8: It just seems every week we're talking about key plays
- 14:38Speaker 8: in the game. We go to talk to the guys
- 14:41Speaker 8: afterwards and they're like, yeah, that was that was me.
- 14:42Speaker 8: I should have gotten a Killplemore's yard.
- 14:44Speaker 10: Steep, Like I'm sick of hearing the my bad, like
- 14:46Speaker 10: lock in and play a good game.
- 14:47Speaker 3: There's different styles of coaching, and some coaches coach out
- 14:51Speaker 3: of fear, like they want the players to be afraid
- 14:54Speaker 3: to make mistakes. A lot of coaches don't subscribe to that.
- 14:57Speaker 3: They think that's the wrong way. But I think there
- 15:00Speaker 3: is something to be said about, you know, drilling into guys.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Don't be the guy that ruins it. Yeah, don't be
- 15:07Speaker 3: the guy that screws it up, that loses the game
- 15:09Speaker 3: for your teammates. You know, I don't know, like you
- 15:12Speaker 3: said it, guys, are you know, too quick to say, oh,
- 15:15Speaker 3: it's my bad and you know just move on. There
- 15:19Speaker 3: has there has to be accountability, and unfortunately there's not
- 15:22Speaker 3: a lot of depth in this team, so guys have
- 15:24Speaker 3: to play. There's no one all right, well you're sitting. Well,
- 15:27Speaker 3: that's hurting the whole team because the person you're bringing
- 15:30Speaker 3: up is you know, shouldn't even be out there. Yeah, so,
- 15:34Speaker 3: but there, I think there needs to be a little
- 15:37Speaker 3: bit of fear of God put into this team about
- 15:40Speaker 3: you know, screwing up.
- 15:42Speaker 6: I totally agree.
- 15:42Speaker 8: I'd start with with the wide receiver room because I
- 15:44Speaker 8: think that they're kind of the prime operators with this
- 15:46Speaker 8: where it's yeah, you just ran the wrong route on
- 15:49Speaker 8: that one. He didn't get the right depth on that one.
- 15:51Speaker 8: He probably should have sat on that one. Like you know,
- 15:53Speaker 8: you hear it week after week with that position group specifically,
- 15:57Speaker 8: and it's been you know, an underperforming position group as
- 15:59Speaker 8: it is. I just that that stuff has to end.
- 16:02Speaker 8: And when Jonathan Jones, like I've heard him say at
- 16:04Speaker 8: least two times this year we just weren't locked in,
- 16:06Speaker 8: I'm like, what.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Are we waiting for? Like this?
- 16:09Speaker 6: Are you capable againting?
- 16:10Speaker 10: Is this team capable of getting locked in?
- 16:12Speaker 3: Because we're talking Paul about you know how Jerizell you
- 16:15Speaker 3: know this. I tell the guys, this is the NFL,
- 16:17Speaker 3: and you know, eighty percent of games and eight points
- 16:20Speaker 3: so less right, and they're all one sc right, right,
- 16:23Speaker 3: So don't look at the scoreboard and say, oh, we're.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Close, right, So you know that. I'm glad you brought
- 16:28Speaker 5: that up. So he made a couple of mentions with
- 16:31Speaker 5: two and five I think in one score games. That's
- 16:33Speaker 5: that's what he used yesterday. So I remember that was
- 16:36Speaker 5: a big thing last year. So I went back and
- 16:38Speaker 5: looked in the first thirteen games. They had ten one
- 16:41Speaker 5: score games last year, right, So.
- 16:46Speaker 3: At these games, the fact that you're losing those games,
- 16:49Speaker 3: that's more important, right.
- 16:50Speaker 5: And you know in other sports those kind of tend
- 16:55Speaker 5: to even out, you know, especially like baseball one hundred
- 16:58Speaker 5: and sixty two games as a randomness to it, one
- 17:01Speaker 5: run games they're generally going to even out a little bit.
- 17:04Speaker 5: You know, bad teams actually typically win more one run
- 17:07Speaker 5: games because they're not good enough to beat you by
- 17:09Speaker 5: more than one run. But in the NFL, almost all
- 17:13Speaker 5: of the games are close. Because I joke about this
- 17:17Speaker 5: all the time. There's no homecoming games in the NFL,
- 17:19Speaker 5: right you know, watch Carolina play? Anybody watched the Paranthers
- 17:22Speaker 5: play lately? Like that's probably the least talent the team
- 17:25Speaker 5: in the in the league in terms of just pure roster.
- 17:27Speaker 5: They sold off a lot of parts and they're playing
- 17:31Speaker 5: like nose to nose with everybody. That's just the nature
- 17:36Speaker 5: of the game. But when it comes down to it,
- 17:38Speaker 5: Kansas City is going to make the plays at the
- 17:40Speaker 5: end of the Tampa Bay who's not a great team,
- 17:42Speaker 5: but they're a better team than Carolina. They're gonna make
- 17:45Speaker 5: the plays at the end of the game to beat you,
- 17:47Speaker 5: cause you're not quite good enough to win those games. Yep.
- 17:50Speaker 5: And that's what I think the Patriots are running into
- 17:52Speaker 5: right now.
- 17:54Speaker 3: I mean, is it?
- 17:54Speaker 8: But is And I said to Fred, you know, do
- 17:56Speaker 8: you subscribe to the theory of teams having to learn
- 17:58Speaker 8: how to win? But I mean I go back to talent,
- 18:02Speaker 8: like how much can coaching do, Like in a certain point,
- 18:05Speaker 8: you're in those key moments, and that's where this Patriots
- 18:08Speaker 8: team is continually faltered, you know.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Yep, So we continue to work on the lighting here.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Just in case anyone's wondering, I hope our camera person
- 18:18Speaker 3: is on his toes.
- 18:20Speaker 5: I don't think the cameras are.
- 18:21Speaker 6: I don't think the cameras are.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Oh, we don't have cameras either.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I don't think we're have cameras.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Oh okay, he look pretty dead.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Wow. So we are on the air though, right.
- 18:29Speaker 5: We are on the air, but not on TV.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Not on TV.
- 18:32Speaker 11: Just our voices.
- 18:33Speaker 6: Yes, we are audio only right now.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Faul's coffee is gonna just go out here?
- 18:38Speaker 6: Just yes, still, fretz there you go.
- 18:40Speaker 3: PEPSI doesn't do it. Oh you tell me that Pepsi. Alright, okay,
- 18:45Speaker 3: all right. So so that's the game I talked about.
- 18:48Speaker 3: You know again, I don't want to talk about penalties,
- 18:52Speaker 3: but these these refs, I mean, that was a clear
- 18:55Speaker 3: face masking Gonzales. At the end of the game. I
- 18:57Speaker 3: watched the barbore one that everyone's screaming about the fact
- 19:00Speaker 3: that it came down to that play. You know, you
- 19:03Speaker 3: can't complain about the refs, but I don't think it
- 19:06Speaker 3: was as much a penalty as people think. Wow, really no,
- 19:10Speaker 3: because what happened is Barmore beat his man, and as
- 19:14Speaker 3: as he beat his man, the man the guy that
- 19:16Speaker 3: he beat kind of slid behind and fell and kind
- 19:19Speaker 3: of grabbed Barmore as he was falling down, and and
- 19:22Speaker 3: he kind of did pull him. But there's no way
- 19:24Speaker 3: a ref and see that well, plus in that, you.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Know, the thing that I would say about that play
- 19:30Speaker 5: is that when Quentin Nelson comes around, he trucked him. Now,
- 19:34Speaker 5: he knocked him over this like I originally thought he
- 19:36Speaker 5: got pancaked. And then when we saw the replay with
- 19:38Speaker 5: Chris replayed over the guy, it was one of those
- 19:41Speaker 5: low bridge He just like he got hit and then
- 19:43Speaker 5: he ended up falling down. But I do think that
- 19:44Speaker 5: he the guy on.
- 19:45Speaker 6: The ground was like the high.
- 19:48Speaker 5: D with you like in a pile and you just
- 19:51Speaker 5: got killed. And like the guy kind of put his
- 19:53Speaker 5: arm up and yeah, like I and and I don't
- 19:57Speaker 5: I don't expect.
- 19:58Speaker 3: I didn't expect even if even if the guy behind
- 20:00Speaker 3: Barber hadn't pulled him, he was getting trucked anyway, So
- 20:04Speaker 3: I think he was being taken out of the play
- 20:06Speaker 3: in any.
- 20:07Speaker 5: Now you want to talk the helmet hit on Hunter Henry,
- 20:10Speaker 5: the face mask that you were talking about on Gonzalez. Yeah,
- 20:13Speaker 5: so there's those calls that were missed. What did you
- 20:15Speaker 5: guys think. I'm curious what you guys thought. Mayo got
- 20:19Speaker 5: a lot of heat for not challenging that catch on
- 20:21Speaker 5: the last drive.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, so he said he didn't get a good look
- 20:27Speaker 3: at it. Which if you don't have it, you know,
- 20:30Speaker 3: a look at it, do you risk losing that time
- 20:34Speaker 3: out when you know they're going to be important in
- 20:36Speaker 3: this game? You know? Then? I mean, we all watched it.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Some people are saying it's clear evidence that the ball
- 20:43Speaker 3: hit the ground. I don't think it did. I saw
- 20:45Speaker 3: the tip of the ball exposed and it did make contact,
- 20:50Speaker 3: but the ball didn't move.
- 20:51Speaker 5: I don't think they still don't understand that rule.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Right, it's not just touching the ground.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I agree with you. I think that would have been
- 20:58Speaker 5: a toss up at best. Yeah, and I think I
- 21:00Speaker 5: could see them overturning that and call it. Anything could
- 21:03Speaker 5: happened in the end, But I thought the one the
- 21:05Speaker 5: previous week in Miami was much more clear that Jalen
- 21:08Speaker 5: Wattle did not catch it. Girod challenged it and they.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Upheld it and he lost.
- 21:13Speaker 5: I thought that one. I don't know if you guys
- 21:15Speaker 5: remember this play, Yes, I sure do, I know.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I remember we was on our side in the press box.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I thought that play was clear when they
- 21:22Speaker 5: showed the replay that Waddle trapped it and they they
- 21:25Speaker 5: held They upheld that call. So I think this one
- 21:28Speaker 5: was much more to catch than that one.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I'm not killing Mayo for that. What I am wondering
- 21:33Speaker 3: is why didn't he have a better look at So.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I also have another rant on Twitter I saw several times,
- 21:39Speaker 5: so I think that was a seven yard completion on
- 21:40Speaker 5: third and ten. I think it set up fourth and three,
- 21:43Speaker 5: which they converted. I don't know if you know, Mike,
- 21:46Speaker 5: but if they overturned that call, Patriots would have won.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, right right, Everything else would have happened.
- 21:53Speaker 5: No, but like, why does the fourth and ten play
- 21:55Speaker 5: automatically not convert? They converted fourth and three? Like why why?
- 21:59Speaker 5: I mean, why is it automatic that they wouldn't have
- 22:02Speaker 5: gotten the first downright? Based on the way that drive went?
- 22:04Speaker 3: Sure, Evan, just so you know, I turned. Yeah, we
- 22:09Speaker 3: had no cameras, no lights.
- 22:12Speaker 5: I'm sorry they're not ready for your close up today.
- 22:14Speaker 3: We still are on air so people can hear us.
- 22:16Speaker 11: Okay, it's throw Justify.
- 22:19Speaker 6: Practice has turned.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Has turn. I know it's cold out there. It's cold, yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 3: so there must be a lot of grousing, mostly for me.
- 22:40Speaker 11: Honestly, I hate the cold. I'm soft. I I fully
- 22:43Speaker 11: admit it. Yeah, I I it's chilly out there. This
- 22:47Speaker 11: is probably the coldest day that we've been out there
- 22:50Speaker 11: all year. I would say for practice. It was a
- 22:53Speaker 11: little cold last week too, but this is pretty bad.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, a lot of any sun out is that
- 22:58Speaker 3: not helping?
- 22:59Speaker 11: Well, no, not really, because like half the field is
- 23:02Speaker 11: in the shade. We're in the stadium today, and of
- 23:05Speaker 11: course they put the media in the in the shade
- 23:07Speaker 11: and in the sun, you know, because of how we
- 23:11Speaker 11: you know, treated after the game on Sunday or something.
- 23:14Speaker 11: I don't know, I'm just totally kidding, totally kidding.
- 23:16Speaker 3: But so the team did go into the Bowl today.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I guess they're working on the practice fields.
- 23:22Speaker 11: Yeah and everything. Yeah, it's it's weird over there right now.
- 23:25Speaker 11: So the training camp fields are getting resotted, regrasped tough time.
- 23:33Speaker 11: And then the lower practice field there's construction going on
- 23:38Speaker 11: right there, so like getting in and out of the
- 23:40Speaker 11: lower practice field is like a little bit of a
- 23:43Speaker 11: experience right now too, So it's all kind of coming
- 23:47Speaker 11: together down there.
- 23:48Speaker 3: So it's Tuesday practice. It's a rare second Tuesday in
- 23:53Speaker 3: a row, but a rare Tuesday practice because the team
- 23:56Speaker 3: is going to take the rest of the week off
- 23:58Speaker 3: being the bye week. Were they in pads?
- 24:01Speaker 11: No pads, no pads, you know, obviously upper shells, but
- 24:06Speaker 11: but no lower pads, not in full pads. So just
- 24:10Speaker 11: quickly on attendance before we get too distracted here, no
- 24:14Speaker 11: Gelaanni Tavai and no Viderian Low or the two players.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Interest was on the radio this morning, but he wasn't at.
- 24:22Speaker 11: Practice, wasn't at practice. And Low has been dealing with
- 24:25Speaker 11: that shoulder injury, and we see him walking around in
- 24:27Speaker 11: one of those like shoulder splint thingies. That's not a splendor,
- 24:34Speaker 11: I don't I don't know what to call it. That's
- 24:37Speaker 11: certainly it's like a harness almost to like, you know,
- 24:41Speaker 11: help him support his shoulder a little.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Bit based on the way the offensive line played last game.
- 24:49Speaker 6: Yes, you've got the buye.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Do you think they played well enough to stay the
- 24:54Speaker 3: way they are the five? Or do you bring in
- 24:57Speaker 3: cold strange after the bye? Well?
- 24:59Speaker 11: I just wonder where at this point, because I thought
- 25:02Speaker 11: this was another solid game for Ben Brown at center
- 25:07Speaker 11: and Laden Robinson. They clearly want to develop him and
- 25:11Speaker 11: want him to play at left guard, and so he's
- 25:14Speaker 11: not going in at left guard and that's sort of
- 25:17Speaker 11: off the table, and he's not going in at center
- 25:19Speaker 11: because Brown's been playing pretty well there. I don't know
- 25:22Speaker 11: if he deserves to be benched by any means. So
- 25:26Speaker 11: he doesn't play tackle unfortunately, so you can't bench one
- 25:30Speaker 11: of the tackles for him. So not to say they
- 25:33Speaker 11: have this embarrassment of riches, certainly not. But it's also
- 25:36Speaker 11: just one of those things where like, do you want
- 25:38Speaker 11: to bench a guy like Ben Brown who has been
- 25:40Speaker 11: doing the job pretty adequately since he got it.
- 25:43Speaker 3: So, Yeah, So a lot of times in the summer
- 25:47Speaker 3: in training camp, the hotter it is, the more clothes
- 25:51Speaker 3: the coaches wear. They that's when they wear their you know,
- 25:54Speaker 3: you know, layers. Yeah, do you see a lot of
- 25:57Speaker 3: guys in shorts today and T shirts, you know, just
- 25:59Speaker 3: to show like, you know.
- 26:01Speaker 11: Not a lot. There were a few guys players in
- 26:04Speaker 11: shorts still. Christian Ellis was still rocking shorts and I
- 26:09Speaker 11: was like braver man than me. I guess some of
- 26:12Speaker 11: the coaches though, were just in like sweatpants and a sweatshirt,
- 26:15Speaker 11: which I think is a bold move as well for
- 26:18Speaker 11: how cold it is out there. But maybe they move
- 26:20Speaker 11: around so much during practice that it doesn't really matter. Now,
- 26:24Speaker 11: Hunter Henry was in a Patriots winter jacket underneath the pads.
- 26:32Speaker 11: Uh so that's the look. That was what he was doing.
- 26:35Speaker 11: I I don't think we have to release an injury
- 26:38Speaker 11: report today because Tuesday and it's the bye week, So
- 26:41Speaker 11: I don't think they need to release an injury report.
- 26:43Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 26:44Speaker 11: But it looked like Hunter Henry was was there to
- 26:47Speaker 11: hang out and not participate much in this practice today
- 26:52Speaker 11: as well. So he might have just been bundled up
- 26:56Speaker 11: to uh because he's going to be standing around a
- 26:59Speaker 11: little bit.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah yeah, So uh so that's your practice report,
- 27:05Speaker 3: it is.
- 27:06Speaker 5: I guess that's the last practice of the week.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Was it Was it full media attendance or oh no, ye,
- 27:11Speaker 3: a little lighter, a.
- 27:12Speaker 11: Little lighter today. Some people I think have actually taken
- 27:15Speaker 11: the whole week off for the bye week. Very nice
- 27:18Speaker 11: because good for them, Good for them.
- 27:20Speaker 3: It's been it's been tough.
- 27:21Speaker 5: I mean, can you imagine this has having a cover
- 27:24Speaker 5: thirteen games?
- 27:26Speaker 3: This has been an especially rigorous season for the media.
- 27:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean a lot of Sunday at once. Yeah,
- 27:32Speaker 5: it doesn't get much. Don't get no tougher than that.
- 27:34Speaker 3: It's tough. It's tough, got bites, you know, fix those fingertips.
- 27:38Speaker 11: You know, lot of carpal tunnel. Got to be worried
- 27:41Speaker 11: about that.
- 27:42Speaker 5: I mean, in terms of the media, this has been
- 27:44Speaker 5: a pretty pretty easy, easy year.
- 27:47Speaker 11: I mean it's scheduling wise, yeah, I mean, you.
- 27:50Speaker 5: Guys have had a couple of long trips, right, you
- 27:53Speaker 5: had San Francisco, Yeah, London, you know, London, Miami.
- 27:58Speaker 11: Now we'll go to Arizona.
- 28:00Speaker 3: And you have the most Sundays ones I think we've
- 28:02Speaker 3: had in twenty.
- 28:03Speaker 5: I can't remember. I can't remember having this many.
- 28:05Speaker 11: No, I know, I don't like to complain about covering
- 28:08Speaker 11: a football team as it is, but yeah, no, no
- 28:11Speaker 11: complaints in terms of any of that for you.
- 28:13Speaker 5: But I think we might be just talking about the
- 28:16Speaker 5: rest of it on the television.
- 28:17Speaker 11: Yeah. I mean, look at thirteen weeks in a row,
- 28:20Speaker 11: and if you really, if you want to go down
- 28:22Speaker 11: this road, uh, you know, really, training camp starts and
- 28:26Speaker 11: then the train has left the station. So it's really
- 28:29Speaker 11: going back to July for most of us though we've
- 28:32Speaker 11: been we've been grinding, as you like, Clay Fred.
- 28:35Speaker 3: So I hope everyone gets a well deserved break. Yep.
- 28:40Speaker 3: So we already kind of talked about the game itself.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Any take that you want to get off your.
- 28:47Speaker 11: Chest a couple I guess just listening to what you
- 28:51Speaker 11: guys were saying when I came in, I'm going to
- 28:53Speaker 11: disagree on the Christian barmore thing. I think it's two
- 28:56Speaker 11: penalties in one block. Chop block, for sure.
- 28:59Speaker 5: I disagree with the front on that too.
- 29:03Speaker 11: Chop block, And I get why just by the look
- 29:06Speaker 11: of it, it looks like a hole. But to me,
- 29:08Speaker 11: by the rule, it looks more to like a chop
- 29:10Speaker 11: block than a hold because he's got somebody around his
- 29:13Speaker 11: legs and then Nelson comes up over the top like
- 29:16Speaker 11: that is a textbook chop block, Like somebody's engaged with
- 29:19Speaker 11: his lower body then hits him up top. Now with
- 29:22Speaker 11: that being said.
- 29:26Speaker 3: There you go.
- 29:27Speaker 11: I have to acknowledge that just keep.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Going, job, guys, good job, might even get some heat back. Yeah,
- 29:36Speaker 3: I know he was getting cold in here, wasn't it.
- 29:37Speaker 3: It's cold.
- 29:39Speaker 11: Those are one of those situations. Heater, that's one of
- 29:43Speaker 11: those situations though, where like it was, it was Fred
- 29:46Speaker 11: right that plugged in the space heater. It's better him
- 29:48Speaker 11: than any of us.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I do agree with that it was probably a penalty,
- 29:54Speaker 5: But I also agree with Fred's point that it's hard
- 29:57Speaker 5: like it's directly in the middle, to the right of
- 30:00Speaker 5: where the ball was run. It wasn't even at the
- 30:02Speaker 5: point of you know. But I do think you guys
- 30:05Speaker 5: on the ground, I don't think it was an intentional chop.
- 30:08Speaker 5: I think the guy like lost his balance and he
- 30:10Speaker 5: ended up right at the guy's legs. I think Evan's right.
- 30:13Speaker 5: I think by the letter of the chop block law,
- 30:15Speaker 5: he's got the guy engaged, you know, at his legs,
- 30:19Speaker 5: and then Nelson hits him. That's supposed to be automatic, right,
- 30:22Speaker 5: So I was surprised that, I guess I would.
- 30:25Speaker 3: So do we figure out Let's just say that it
- 30:28Speaker 3: was a penalty, All right, do we figure out what
- 30:31Speaker 3: happens after that? Good?
- 30:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I was already wondering that actual point.
- 30:34Speaker 11: It's it's basically, you have the choice now to attempt
- 30:38Speaker 11: the extra point from fifteen yards back or ten yards back.
- 30:41Speaker 11: I can't remember how much it is for a chop block,
- 30:44Speaker 11: or you can go for two from the twelve yard
- 30:47Speaker 11: line if you wanted to.
- 30:49Speaker 3: So, if they wanted it, but if they wanted to kick,
- 30:51Speaker 3: do you know that that's a fact because because that's a
- 30:54Speaker 3: shorter extra point that it would be otherwise.
- 30:56Speaker 5: No, No, if they wanted to kick, the fifteen yards
- 30:59Speaker 5: for the chop block would have been from the fifteen,
- 31:01Speaker 5: so it would have gone back to the thirty and
- 31:03Speaker 5: made it a forty eight yard.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Oh, forty eight okay instead of forty two, thirty three,
- 31:07Speaker 3: thirty three yeah whatever, yea hard okay, okay.
- 31:12Speaker 5: Yeah, So they could still go for two if they
- 31:14Speaker 5: wanted to. That they would have had to go for
- 31:15Speaker 5: it probably, Yeah, so Dan Campbell wasn't in the stadium,
- 31:19Speaker 5: so they probably would have just kicked.
- 31:20Speaker 3: If it was a penalty, it would have been over time, yeah,
- 31:22Speaker 3: most likely.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:23Speaker 11: Yeah, Okay, Now the one thing I will say about
- 31:25Speaker 11: the penalty, and I get that this is probably wrong
- 31:30Speaker 11: to say this, but I also feel like I don't
- 31:32Speaker 11: want games decided.
- 31:34Speaker 5: Necessarily no call, but I do think it was a penalty.
- 31:37Speaker 11: Yeah, Like it was one thing. If you know it's
- 31:39Speaker 11: a two point conversion and a guy's running wide open
- 31:42Speaker 11: in the end zone and somebody tackles him, you know,
- 31:44Speaker 11: it commits defensive pass interference or something like that. But
- 31:47Speaker 11: this was one of those sort of in the trenches
- 31:49Speaker 11: kind of things where I don't know. I don't know
- 31:52Speaker 11: if I love the game being decided by a penalty
- 31:55Speaker 11: in that spot if it doesn't have to be.
- 31:57Speaker 8: So I just found it made me so mad because
- 31:59Speaker 8: of course, of course, like they let a nineteen play
- 32:02Speaker 8: drive and then it's like but.
- 32:03Speaker 6: They held us on the two point, Like I'm like.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Come on, that was kind of my like, so I
- 32:08Speaker 5: wake up money now. We saw this on the postgame
- 32:10Speaker 5: show because when I the first time they showed it
- 32:13Speaker 5: f I looked at it and I was like, wow, Bobo
- 32:15Speaker 5: just got pancakes. Yeah yeah, because you just see the
- 32:18Speaker 5: first shot and I see this like he had the
- 32:19Speaker 5: red sleeves on, arms go up and I was like, Wow,
- 32:22Speaker 5: Quinton Nelson killed him. Then they showed another replay and
- 32:25Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, no, no, no, he didn't get pancake. There's
- 32:27Speaker 5: a guy right behind him. It's like when you're in
- 32:29Speaker 5: school and then they got table, you get your friend
- 32:32Speaker 5: to set up behind him, and that's what I thought
- 32:34Speaker 5: happened might start. So I was like, he didn't get pancake.
- 32:37Speaker 5: That was just a low bridge, and that's what happened.
- 32:39Speaker 5: Then I wake up Monday morning to the Zapruter film.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Everybody and their brother had different angles of the travesty
- 32:47Speaker 5: of this non call that like, and I'm kind of
- 32:50Speaker 5: with Mike. I'm like, you just allowed that quarterback to
- 32:54Speaker 5: convert three fourth downs in a nineteen play drive which
- 32:59Speaker 5: was actually twenty one places because I think there were
- 33:01Speaker 5: a couple of penalties along the way, and you're complaining
- 33:04Speaker 5: that the two point conversion didn't get overturned with a
- 33:07Speaker 5: you know, a chop block or in a hold or
- 33:10Speaker 5: whatever I did.
- 33:11Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm one hundred percent with you. I understand from
- 33:14Speaker 11: a player perspective though, because because I totally because you know,
- 33:18Speaker 11: he you know, just talking after the game with some
- 33:21Speaker 11: of them, like he knew the play that they were
- 33:23Speaker 11: going to run because they've been running all game QB power.
- 33:25Speaker 11: They've been running it. They probably read it ten times
- 33:28Speaker 11: in the game. So he swims the tackle man to
- 33:32Speaker 11: get to get into the backfield because he knows that
- 33:35Speaker 11: that's where they're going to try to hit the play,
- 33:38Speaker 11: and so he his in his mind, he was like,
- 33:41Speaker 11: I blew it up, like I had, Like I was
- 33:43Speaker 11: right there and I had.
- 33:44Speaker 3: With that because he beat his man, but he was
- 33:47Speaker 3: now Nelson was coming. Nelson hit him right.
- 33:50Speaker 11: But did Nelson hit him because he had to make
- 33:53Speaker 11: the tackle right for whiffing on the block on bar Moore?
- 33:56Speaker 11: Like see, it's it's a domino effect, right, Like, because
- 33:59Speaker 11: that that's not who bar who Nelson is supposed to block. Okay,
- 34:03Speaker 11: so Nelson is fixing the mistake by the tackle by
- 34:06Speaker 11: blocking bar Moore at the point of attack there, So
- 34:09Speaker 11: it did someone else. Yeah, the linebacker theoretically should have
- 34:14Speaker 11: been unblocked to make the play.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Because Richardson did touchdown. He did get hit outside, but
- 34:23Speaker 3: they plowed him.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Okay, But I'm not like I think it was I
- 34:30Speaker 5: think there was a penalty. Yeah, I definitely think it
- 34:32Speaker 5: was a penalty.
- 34:33Speaker 8: I guess yeah, like the context of the game and
- 34:35Speaker 8: how it ended, so technicality I wanted, you.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Know, yeah, it's too bad.
- 34:42Speaker 11: Yeah. My only other thought on the on the game was,
- 34:45Speaker 11: you know, just again other than finding a way to
- 34:50Speaker 11: lose all these close games, which is painful. But again,
- 34:53Speaker 11: just watching the defensive film, you just you see a
- 34:57Speaker 11: lot of issues on that side of the football, a
- 34:59Speaker 11: lot of issues with just obviously talent level personnel, especially
- 35:04Speaker 11: in the front seven, but also you know, assignment's run fits,
- 35:08Speaker 11: coverage busts again in the red zone. Like there's just
- 35:11Speaker 11: not a well coached, well oiled machine on the defensive
- 35:14Speaker 11: side of the ball right now. And offensively, you're seeing
- 35:17Speaker 11: some progress and you're seeing some good things from Van
- 35:20Speaker 11: Pelt in the scheme and all that kind of stuff,
- 35:22Speaker 11: and defensively you're just getting none of that outside of
- 35:25Speaker 11: Christian goan Zales, you know, flashing here or there every
- 35:29Speaker 11: once in a while, and that is extremely discouraging because
- 35:32Speaker 11: I just don't know where they go from here. Defensively, like,
- 35:35Speaker 11: you have a defensive minded head coach, you have a
- 35:38Speaker 11: young defensive coordinator and Covington who you like, so you know,
- 35:42Speaker 11: do you move on from Covington. Do you give jirod
- 35:45Speaker 11: more defensive responsibility? Like moving forward? You know, how do
- 35:50Speaker 11: you fix that on that side of the ball, I
- 35:52Speaker 11: think is a big question. Just assuming that Juwan Bentley
- 35:55Speaker 11: comes back and Barmore gets fully healthy and all of
- 35:58Speaker 11: a sudden this is a top ten defense again, I
- 36:00Speaker 11: think is a is a giant leap based off of
- 36:03Speaker 11: what we've seen, I mean, everybody. It kind of feels
- 36:06Speaker 11: to me like the like the Bruins, not the cross sports,
- 36:08Speaker 11: where like there's multiple guys that are underperforming, Like there's
- 36:12Speaker 11: just like all over the defense, you know, to buy
- 36:14Speaker 11: Kyle Duggar, Jonathan Jones, you know, just go on down
- 36:18Speaker 11: the line of guys that have played really good football
- 36:20Speaker 11: for you over the last couple of years that just
- 36:23Speaker 11: aren't playing good right now.
- 36:24Speaker 8: So I can't wrap my head around It's that these
- 36:25Speaker 8: are the guys you kept, these are the coaches you kept,
- 36:27Speaker 8: These are the holdovers, this is the holdover side of
- 36:30Speaker 8: the ball, and yet they're the ones who have fallen
- 36:32Speaker 8: off and haven't been able to I can't I can't
- 36:35Speaker 8: quite wrap my head around make it, make.
- 36:37Speaker 5: It, because I really thought Sunday was gonna be one
- 36:39Speaker 5: of those they're gonna flex our muscles against.
- 36:42Speaker 11: It, like the Bears.
- 36:43Speaker 8: Yeah, like like Chicago, and it wasn't They've had to
- 36:47Speaker 8: know of those games.
- 36:47Speaker 5: And Richardson, you know, wasn't great, but he was good enough.
- 36:52Speaker 10: It's like, you know, Pellegrino, Brian Belichick, like these guys have.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Yeah, so Jonathan Jones f And I'm curious, do you
- 36:59Speaker 5: feel like he sort of I don't want to use
- 37:01Speaker 5: the word bench but do you feel.
- 37:02Speaker 11: Like he was benched perform phased out? I think is
- 37:06Speaker 11: a is a good way to put it, because he
- 37:10Speaker 11: can't play corner anymore.
- 37:11Speaker 5: Do you think Austin played well for the most part
- 37:14Speaker 5: but it wasn't It wasn't perfect, but I thought he
- 37:16Speaker 5: played pretty well.
- 37:16Speaker 3: I was reading your your wrap up and you said
- 37:19Speaker 3: that they were rotation rotating and at that and that
- 37:23Speaker 3: play at the end, it was just Astin turn really
- 37:26Speaker 3: out there. And Gerard wants to see how these young
- 37:29Speaker 3: guys are going to play. Yeah, and you can't like
- 37:31Speaker 3: take them out if you really want to, you know,
- 37:34Speaker 3: judge them fairly. You got to keep them out there
- 37:37Speaker 3: in the big place.
- 37:37Speaker 5: I don't have a huge problem with that mentality. If
- 37:40Speaker 5: That's why I'm wondering. I'm when you brought up, you know,
- 37:43Speaker 5: the guys that haven't played, and you you included Jonathan Jones.
- 37:47Speaker 5: That made me think more was this performance related that
- 37:50Speaker 5: he wasn't out there at the end of the year.
- 37:51Speaker 3: I think he just wants to see people, see people.
- 37:54Speaker 11: I think there's and there's also the whole matchup thing
- 37:57Speaker 11: of like there's a lot of big receivers on the Colts,
- 38:00Speaker 11: so like who is he without Josh Downs, Like who
- 38:02Speaker 11: is he really going to cover? But you know, we're
- 38:04Speaker 11: just looking up some stats here at the bye week,
- 38:07Speaker 11: and out of seventy two qualified corners in the league,
- 38:10Speaker 11: Jonathan Jones is dead last and passer rating into his
- 38:13Speaker 11: coverage right now, you know, he is the worst corner
- 38:16Speaker 11: in the league by a lot of metrics at this
- 38:19Speaker 11: point in coverage.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Goes back and see the post game reaction every week
- 38:23Speaker 5: to see that I haven't seen any of that. What
- 38:26Speaker 5: do you mean, Like, no one's written that, no one's
- 38:29Speaker 5: tweeting that after the game, breathlessly killing me all the stats.
- 38:32Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, it's fair.
- 38:34Speaker 6: I mean I think Evan's slowly right.
- 38:35Speaker 8: It is another thing that hit my radar and I
- 38:37Speaker 8: connected to to they're turning guys over at the bottom
- 38:40Speaker 8: of the roster too. They brought in another practice squad
- 38:42Speaker 8: guy today. They got rid of Michael Jordan, they got
- 38:44Speaker 8: rid of Joe Giles Harris yesterday. There you know, I mean,
- 38:47Speaker 8: I don't like I'm Paul's converted me. I'm not like
- 38:50Speaker 8: saying these guys are gems. But it seems like they're
- 38:53Speaker 8: churning up the bottom of the roster at the end
- 38:54Speaker 8: just to see if they can find anybody who might
- 38:56Speaker 8: be able to stick and compete next summer.
- 38:58Speaker 11: Yeah, I definitely wonder too, just you know, about Kyle
- 39:01Speaker 11: Dugger and where he is at mentally right now, because
- 39:05Speaker 11: this wasn't as egregiously bad as the Miami game, where
- 39:08Speaker 11: it's obvious that he's not playing well. But when you
- 39:11Speaker 11: watch the film back, I mean, there's there's as many
- 39:14Speaker 11: minus plays on this tape as there were last week
- 39:17Speaker 11: for Kyle Dugger. Obviously the touchdown on him, you know,
- 39:20Speaker 11: at the end of the game, but just other plays too,
- 39:22Speaker 11: where he's just not in the right places, or you know,
- 39:25Speaker 11: gets beat again or gets beat up the seam and
- 39:27Speaker 11: the tight end just drops the ball, you know, and
- 39:29Speaker 11: what should have been like a walking touchdown on him
- 39:31Speaker 11: earlier on in the in the drive if he gives
- 39:34Speaker 11: that one up. So it's just, uh, he's a player
- 39:37Speaker 11: too that he's more talented, he's better than that.
- 39:39Speaker 8: You know what if I said, let's get rid of
- 39:41Speaker 8: the safeties playing linebacker, Like, why don't we get rid
- 39:43Speaker 8: of that and have linebackers play linebacker and let NFL?
- 39:46Speaker 3: Can you really do that?
- 39:47Speaker 5: Well?
- 39:47Speaker 6: I think most teams in.
- 39:48Speaker 10: The league do that right Well, Like they're not they're
- 39:50Speaker 10: not trying.
- 39:51Speaker 8: Lock like Kyle Duggert and inside linebacker where he's not
- 39:54Speaker 8: gonna be able to stop the run, Like he just
- 39:56Speaker 8: doesn't fit to do that.
- 39:57Speaker 5: Yeah, well I like him better stop in the run
- 39:58Speaker 5: than I do him in coverage.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I know we've talked about how linebackers are being phased
- 40:02Speaker 3: out in this league a little bit, like they're running
- 40:05Speaker 3: that as dominant as they used to be.
- 40:07Speaker 11: They're running there that that cracks. We play with Richardson
- 40:11Speaker 11: on the design quarterback run and it's like fourth and
- 40:14Speaker 11: short is one of those fourth down plays. I can't
- 40:16Speaker 11: remember which one, and the whole stadium knows what play
- 40:19Speaker 11: they're gonna run, easy and Kyle Duggar gets smoked on
- 40:23Speaker 11: the crack block, like doesn't even see coming and gets
- 40:25Speaker 11: pancaked on the edge, And I'm just like, well, what
- 40:29Speaker 11: did you think they were going to run? Like they
- 40:31Speaker 11: were going to run a different play like that was.
- 40:33Speaker 5: And I would say, you guys are right actually, because
- 40:36Speaker 5: I would say the same thing the other fourth down play,
- 40:39Speaker 5: you know, the fourth down that they wouldn't have gotten
- 40:41Speaker 5: if they overturned the call that was I think it
- 40:43Speaker 5: was fourth and three that they got eleven yards on.
- 40:45Speaker 11: Yeah, they actually threw it on now one.
- 40:46Speaker 5: Yeah, but he could have run it too, because Pepper's
- 40:49Speaker 5: was out there and he got dusted. He's the contang guy. Yeah,
- 40:53Speaker 5: and he got right around him easily looked and he
- 40:55Speaker 5: saw he had a guy wide open. He just threw
- 40:57Speaker 5: it for the easy money rather than just running for it.
- 40:59Speaker 5: But he could have done either one. And that's those guys,
- 41:03Speaker 5: both of those guys. That's what they should be able
- 41:05Speaker 5: to do. I'm not asking I'm not asking Doug Art
- 41:08Speaker 5: to blanket Michael Pittman on that that tying touchdown. Yeah,
- 41:12Speaker 5: I don't think that's his skill set. He but Evan's
- 41:15Speaker 5: play that he's talking about he should be able to
- 41:17Speaker 5: recognize a block coming and take on the block and
- 41:20Speaker 5: set the edge and force the guy to do something.
- 41:23Speaker 5: That was an easy conversion both ways. One was left
- 41:27Speaker 5: toward the Colt sideline, the one that you're talking about
- 41:29Speaker 5: with Douger, and the one I'm talking about with Peppers
- 41:32Speaker 5: was toward the Patriots sideline. Yeah, and I think they
- 41:35Speaker 5: were both full with down plays on that last drive.
- 41:36Speaker 11: You gotta start asking questions I think on the about
- 41:39Speaker 11: the defensive coaching, and now at this point, more so
- 41:43Speaker 11: I would say than than Van Pelt, like I think
- 41:45Speaker 11: Van Pelt has done.
- 41:47Speaker 5: I thought there was a study job, a lot of
- 41:49Speaker 5: good stuff in that game before you got here. I said,
- 41:52Speaker 5: with the exception of the two possessions like after the picks,
- 41:58Speaker 5: you know, and I didn't like the mentality late in
- 42:01Speaker 5: the half. But I don't put that on him because
- 42:04Speaker 5: I think that there's like the timeout usage and whatnot.
- 42:07Speaker 5: I don't think that's him. I think that's a head coaches.
- 42:10Speaker 5: But the two drives after the two picks, especially the
- 42:13Speaker 5: last one, but the little shovel pass to Hunter Henry,
- 42:17Speaker 5: you have the play action to Marcus Jones. I really
- 42:20Speaker 5: liked that wrinkle.
- 42:21Speaker 3: That was a nice play.
- 42:22Speaker 5: I really, I really enjoyed that they.
- 42:24Speaker 6: Did a whole gift one had a gift.
- 42:26Speaker 11: Yeah, power read well, I actually just download the videos.
- 42:31Speaker 11: I don't over We're beyond gifts now, Mike, you don't
- 42:35Speaker 11: like the boomer.
- 42:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't know you had that.
- 42:38Speaker 3: I liked that place.
- 42:39Speaker 11: That's probably one of my favorite plays they've run all year.
- 42:41Speaker 11: That's a that's a Kansas City Andy Reid specially right
- 42:44Speaker 11: there exactly.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Yeah, that was than I loved the Hunter and the
- 42:51Speaker 5: Hunter Hendy, the Austin Hooper touchdown like a little I
- 42:54Speaker 5: don't know if it was like an over a sale
- 42:56Speaker 5: sale route you got it, if it wasn't al route.
- 42:58Speaker 5: I mean, there were so many guys in the same spot.
- 43:01Speaker 5: I wasn't really sure exactly what it was, but I like,
- 43:04Speaker 5: I liked that.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Can I use the word something for sale?
- 43:07Speaker 11: A lot of people go, yeah, no, Look, it's a
- 43:09Speaker 11: good concept against the coverage because they know they're gonna
- 43:12Speaker 11: play some sort of single high safety because that's what
- 43:15Speaker 11: the Colts play all the time, and so you're just
- 43:17Speaker 11: flooding that sideline, right, You're gonna run the vertical and
- 43:20Speaker 11: the sale route fells in underneath it, and usually that
- 43:23Speaker 11: sale route should should be open. If not, then you
- 43:25Speaker 11: just throw the check down in the flat to the
- 43:27Speaker 11: running back. So that's like a three level read for
- 43:29Speaker 11: the quarterback and it's wide open. They had another play
- 43:32Speaker 11: to Austin Hooper that I put on Twitter where you know,
- 43:35Speaker 11: really nice scheme where Pop Douglas comes behind Drake May
- 43:39Speaker 11: in an orbit or satellite motion and then he fakes
- 43:41Speaker 11: the toss out to Pop Douglas and throws it left
- 43:44Speaker 11: off that play action fake. So they actually wheel Remandra
- 43:47Speaker 11: out of the backfield and use Douglas as like the
- 43:50Speaker 11: play action fake. You know, a lot of motion, a
- 43:52Speaker 11: lot of misdirection against his own defense is how you
- 43:55Speaker 11: take down that kind of coverage because you know their
- 43:57Speaker 11: eyes are going to be on the quarterback in the backfield,
- 44:00Speaker 11: so you just you know, create chaos, a lot of misdirection,
- 44:04Speaker 11: a lot of motion, things like that. They motioned a
- 44:07Speaker 11: ton in this game. Twenty times they use motion at
- 44:10Speaker 11: the snap, which was a season high. So they did.
- 44:13Speaker 11: They did a bunch of really nice things in this
- 44:14Speaker 11: game offensively.
- 44:15Speaker 8: Do you think that this is more related to the
- 44:17Speaker 8: Colts or do you think this is a sign of
- 44:19Speaker 8: the offensive coaching staff hearing the calls for we need
- 44:22Speaker 8: to be more creative, we need to mix it up
- 44:23Speaker 8: a little bit, and them evol.
- 44:25Speaker 3: I think they're they're getting more confident, so they're building
- 44:29Speaker 3: the pages in the playbook, you know, as Drake May,
- 44:32Speaker 3: you know, gets better every week. I think they're opening
- 44:35Speaker 3: up and adding, you know, a little bit to his repertoire. Yeah,
- 44:39Speaker 3: so it's funny though you mentioned Hunter Henry earlier. They
- 44:43Speaker 3: were playing Zoe's call on the Hunter Henry interception, you know,
- 44:47Speaker 3: the one where we all said, you know, if the
- 44:50Speaker 3: throw it ben to the other shoulder, it would have
- 44:52Speaker 3: been easier to catch. And it was a little bit
- 44:54Speaker 3: on Drake May. You should have heard Zoe, you can't
- 44:56Speaker 3: throw the ball any better than that. I mean that
- 45:00Speaker 3: was literally what he said.
- 45:02Speaker 5: Listen, it's ridiculously unlucky. Yeah, the play ended up being
- 45:06Speaker 5: an interception, but it wasn't perfect, and they got like, yeah,
- 45:11Speaker 5: it's a little on Hunter Henry, it's a little on
- 45:14Speaker 5: Drake Man. Yeah, I mean it happens.
- 45:16Speaker 10: Yeah, it's a little bit of faults for making that game.
- 45:18Speaker 5: But yeah, and they were there like you were slightly
- 45:21Speaker 5: off target with you throw, you didn't deserve to get
- 45:24Speaker 5: an line pick out of it. But like, my god,
- 45:27Speaker 5: that's another one I heard about on Twitter. I wake
- 45:30Speaker 5: up Monday morning.
- 45:30Speaker 3: I was like, But the other thing, though said is.
- 45:33Speaker 11: I don't know, like he is not waking up Monday morning.
- 45:38Speaker 3: That was much better when I was still the other
- 45:40Speaker 3: thing so said, in the moment, it's like he's on
- 45:42Speaker 3: his back. Why is any down because he never has
- 45:45Speaker 3: never even close.
- 45:46Speaker 11: To catching I will defend Zoe just a little bit
- 45:48Speaker 11: like watching it live like then when you watch it
- 45:51Speaker 11: back ten times on a replay, Yes, it was live call.
- 45:54Speaker 11: You know, maybe it's a little bit different, but yeah,
- 45:56Speaker 11: I thought the ball it was a little bit.
- 45:58Speaker 5: He never had a little bit to the inside which
- 46:01Speaker 5: allowed I think it was Zayre Franklin forty to get
- 46:04Speaker 5: that ball in. You might have gotten a hand on it.
- 46:07Speaker 11: Yeah, you can see it clear. You can see it
- 46:09Speaker 11: clear his day on the end zone view that Henry
- 46:12Speaker 11: Actually it's his right hand that kind of has to
- 46:14Speaker 11: reach out his right hand like this to try to
- 46:16Speaker 11: bring the ball back in and if he fronky catches it, yeah,
- 46:20Speaker 11: if he hits him on between the eight and the five.
- 46:21Speaker 3: It's a touchdown, right, all right, My foot's here, so
- 46:26Speaker 3: we're gonna take a break. When we come back, I

- 48:22Speaker 13: That's your one.
- 48:22Speaker 7: I'm in the right, yeah right, yeah, yeah, what's up man?
- 48:26Speaker 7: Thank you for joining us, Thank you for having me.
- 48:27Speaker 7: It's such an honor to be here.
- 48:29Speaker 13: It's an honor for us to How is you here?
- 48:31Speaker 13: And you know if those don't know you're from the
- 48:34Speaker 13: Boston area.
- 48:35Speaker 7: I am. I grew up in Winchester, graduated from Winchester High.
- 48:39Speaker 7: I'm a Sachem yep, yep. I went to Boston College
- 48:42Speaker 7: as well. And so you're an Eagle in right, right, Yeah,
- 48:46Speaker 7: we have to be. Yeah, big game yesterday.
- 48:48Speaker 13: Yeah, so you're a Patriots fan.
- 48:51Speaker 7: Huge Patriots fan. Absolutely.
- 48:53Speaker 13: Who was your favorite player as you were growing up
- 48:55Speaker 13: in the area, Coach.
- 48:56Speaker 7: I mean, it's an it's an easy answer, but Brady, right,
- 48:59Speaker 7: I mean.
- 49:00Speaker 13: But if we take that one away, take Brady.
- 49:02Speaker 7: Away, I'd probably go with Randy Moss. You know, uh yeah,
- 49:07Speaker 7: it really was, you know, being almost pretty much almost undefeated,
- 49:11Speaker 7: well undefeated, but the whole season. Yeah, great, great season
- 49:14Speaker 7: for sure, great season for sure.
- 49:17Speaker 13: Is there a favorite Patriot memory that you can think
- 49:20Speaker 13: of when you were growing up? Like the one thing
- 49:23Speaker 13: we were so spoiled with it was an irishman and
- 49:25Speaker 13: riches for almost twenty years or twenty years plus. Yeah,
- 49:28Speaker 13: what was your favorite memory during this whole run?
- 49:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 49:32Speaker 7: I feel like I'm just giving you like the most
- 49:33Speaker 7: easy and basic answers. But being down twenty eight to
- 49:36Speaker 7: three in the Super Bowl. Actually, my friend and I
- 49:38Speaker 7: live streamed us watching the show or watching the game
- 49:42Speaker 7: and just being down. Everyone like when you're on top,
- 49:47Speaker 7: everyone wants to see you lose for some reason, and
- 49:49Speaker 7: they don't want to appreciate what greatness is. I'm like,
- 49:51Speaker 7: you should be appreciating what we're seeing right now, like
- 49:54Speaker 7: Brady in his prime, Like we should be appreciating it's,
- 49:56Speaker 7: not hating on it. And I'm you know, we're down
- 49:58Speaker 7: twenty eight three, and I'm getting all these texts from
- 50:00Speaker 7: all my college friends and they're just they're not even
- 50:03Speaker 7: Falcons fans, but they just want to hate on us,
- 50:06Speaker 7: you know. So then just to see us like come
- 50:08Speaker 7: back and to win and Edelman making that incredible catch,
- 50:12Speaker 7: like how did this happen? The greatest comeback in the
- 50:15Speaker 7: history of sports and it happened to us, and like
- 50:18Speaker 7: solidified if you didn't think that Brady was the greatest
- 50:20Speaker 7: at that point, like he was after that game, you know,
- 50:23Speaker 7: to be able to come back, because it was also
- 50:25Speaker 7: just crazy.
- 50:26Speaker 13: You've convinced me in less than three minutes that you
- 50:28Speaker 13: can handle yourself in a bar if you want to
- 50:30Speaker 13: debate the.
- 50:30Speaker 7: Patriots, Come on, man, all right, bro, I've had several dues,
- 50:34Speaker 7: and I just don't understand why people like don't want
- 50:37Speaker 7: to see people win, right, It's so weird to me.
- 50:40Speaker 7: It's so bizarre, right, Like the chiefs are kind of
- 50:42Speaker 7: experiencing that right.
- 50:43Speaker 13: Now, question right, like people interesting to watch.
- 50:49Speaker 7: It's just wild how that happens? Man, Like, what do
- 50:51Speaker 7: they say? You're you know, you live long enough as
- 50:54Speaker 7: the good guy to become the bad guy. That's not
- 50:56Speaker 7: the quote, but you know what, that's the sentiment, right,
- 50:58Speaker 7: it's pretty wild.
- 50:59Speaker 13: So besides being here at Let's Dame today to watch
- 51:01Speaker 13: the Patriots take on the Colts, one of the reasons
- 51:03Speaker 13: is Kofi is here to promote the Monday Night Raw
- 51:05Speaker 13: at the Garden in just over two weeks on six sixteenth.
- 51:09Speaker 13: That's right, yeah, tell us about that.
- 51:11Speaker 7: Monday Night Raw is always spectacular And as you guys know,
- 51:15Speaker 7: like the fans in New England and Boston are the
- 51:18Speaker 7: greatest fans in the world, so passionate, you know, we
- 51:21Speaker 7: have so many like what we do is we win, right,
- 51:23Speaker 7: we want to see winning happens. So if you want
- 51:26Speaker 7: to win yourself, then you come to a WWE show. Like,
- 51:30Speaker 7: if you hate fun, then don't come. If you don't
- 51:32Speaker 7: like fun, then don't come to the show, because it's
- 51:34Speaker 7: an amazing show. It's like super fun. There's like big
- 51:38Speaker 7: pyrotechnics everywhere, the loud music. It's like a rock concert.
- 51:41Speaker 7: You get to see incredible athletes doing incredibly athletic things.
- 51:44Speaker 7: You cheer for the guys that you love, you boo
- 51:47Speaker 7: the guys that you hate, and that's all okay. We
- 51:48Speaker 7: want you to come and have an experience. So tickets
- 51:51Speaker 7: are still available, but they're probably not going to be
- 51:52Speaker 7: available for long. So you got to go out there,
- 51:54Speaker 7: get your tickets, and come out and be entertained. It's
- 51:56Speaker 7: gonna be great.
- 51:57Speaker 13: So the easy answer is the Boston guy would be
- 51:59Speaker 13: what's the best crowd you've been in front of? And
- 52:02Speaker 13: you'd want to say Boston, But because WW is such
- 52:05Speaker 13: a huge international event, what's the best crowd KOFEE that
- 52:10Speaker 13: you can recall that you've been in front of.
- 52:13Speaker 7: So I have two answers for this. We had a
- 52:15Speaker 7: show in Santiago, Chile, and we hadn't been there as
- 52:20Speaker 7: a company before and South American fans are super super passionate.
- 52:25Speaker 7: So we had the one show. It sold out in
- 52:27Speaker 7: like five minutes, and then they opened it up for
- 52:30Speaker 7: a second night and just to see if it would sell.
- 52:32Speaker 7: That also sold out in like fifteen minutes. So as
- 52:35Speaker 7: soon as we walked out there, the entire arena just
- 52:38Speaker 7: like I've never felt an energy so strong as the
- 52:42Speaker 7: fans in Santiago two nights in a row, and we
- 52:45Speaker 7: would just go out there and we'd be standing there
- 52:47Speaker 7: and people be losing their minds and then you like
- 52:49Speaker 7: take one step like whoa, you know, so just crazy,
- 52:53Speaker 7: crazy energy the entire night. The second answer, The most
- 52:56Speaker 7: interesting place that I've ever wrestled at was in Nime, France.
- 53:00Speaker 7: It was in a colisseum, like an actual coliseum where
- 53:04Speaker 7: people spilt blood and fought for their lives, and now
- 53:07Speaker 7: here we are doing that in our span nex, you know,
- 53:09Speaker 7: and we put a ring right in the middle of
- 53:11Speaker 7: the stadium, and it was great to just like, you know,
- 53:15Speaker 7: do what was being done centuries before. Of course, we
- 53:19Speaker 7: got to leave with our lives, so it was a
- 53:22Speaker 7: beneficial time for us, but very unique. I've been so experienced,
- 53:25Speaker 7: so fortunate to be able to experience so many different
- 53:28Speaker 7: cultures and travel the world and just you know, the
- 53:31Speaker 7: w W universe is amazing. We have the best fans,
- 53:34Speaker 7: the most passionate fans, and it's been an honor to
- 53:36Speaker 7: be able to do this for so long at such
- 53:39Speaker 7: a high level.
- 53:40Speaker 13: We're pleased to be joined by Kofi Kingston, the w WE.
- 53:43Speaker 13: Mike and I. I don't know that we have an expertise,
- 53:46Speaker 13: but I guess we talk about the Patriots to know
- 53:48Speaker 13: a little bit about the Patriots. Specifically for your appearance
- 53:51Speaker 13: here today, we brought in our w W E. Do
- 53:58Speaker 13: you have a wrestling name.
- 54:00Speaker 14: I don't have a wrestling name, but I did the
- 54:02Speaker 14: Killer Kowalski School for my buddy's bachelor party.
- 54:06Speaker 7: Really, really, what a great place to have a bachelor party.
- 54:09Speaker 7: So what did you do when you went?
- 54:11Speaker 14: So we got up on top rope, you know, threw
- 54:14Speaker 14: some elbows down the ropes. It's if you can picture
- 54:17Speaker 14: somebody this big trying to run the ropes.
- 54:20Speaker 7: I've seen it.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Bro.
- 54:21Speaker 7: There's a guy, Brian Malone's he helped train me. He
- 54:25Speaker 7: wrestles with Roh every now and again, but legend in
- 54:28Speaker 7: the Northeast. I had my last match on the Independence
- 54:31Speaker 7: with him and he's a big guy, but an incredible
- 54:34Speaker 7: athlete that moves around in ways that he should not
- 54:36Speaker 7: be able to move in that size. So I've seen
- 54:38Speaker 7: that happen. You know, I've seen guys like yourself do
- 54:41Speaker 7: incredible things.
- 54:42Speaker 14: I wouldn't call myself an incredible athlete, but I tried.
- 54:45Speaker 7: I called you, you know, you know, take the compliment. Yeah, man,
- 54:47Speaker 7: come on.
- 54:48Speaker 14: So you've done just about everything in the business. You've
- 54:51Speaker 14: won a lot of those, right there, A lot of
- 54:52Speaker 14: championship bell the titles, Yeah, the big ones obviously when
- 54:56Speaker 14: you won the ww Championship, But outside of that, what
- 54:59Speaker 14: would you consider your career defining moment?
- 55:01Speaker 7: Oh man, this is such a weird question because I
- 55:04Speaker 7: feel like I don't like talking about my accolades and
- 55:07Speaker 7: I feel like I'm bragging or whatever. But you asked,
- 55:09Speaker 7: you know, That's why I'm gonna go ahead and say it.
- 55:11Speaker 7: I think the first title that I ever won was
- 55:14Speaker 7: the Intercontinental Championship. That was the first title that I
- 55:17Speaker 7: ever won, not just in WWE, but also on the
- 55:20Speaker 7: independen scene. And to wrestle against someone like Chris Jericho,
- 55:25Speaker 7: who is an established legend in our industry and a
- 55:29Speaker 7: guy who I looked up to at that time, like,
- 55:31Speaker 7: you know, he's the man, he's always been the Man.
- 55:33Speaker 7: Shawn Michaels was also involved in that match, And Shawn
- 55:36Speaker 7: Michaels is my guy, you know. To me, I've never
- 55:38Speaker 7: seen him have a bad match. All the matches that
- 55:40Speaker 7: he has had have been great, So for him to
- 55:43Speaker 7: be involved, for that to be my first title when
- 55:47Speaker 7: it really made me feel like I actually like I'm
- 55:50Speaker 7: here now. I made it, you know. And I was
- 55:52Speaker 7: so green that when I held the title up and
- 55:55Speaker 7: they made like a Tops card of this, I'm holding
- 55:58Speaker 7: it like this, yeah, and you know what I mean,
- 56:02Speaker 7: like you can't see the plates of the time. This
- 56:04Speaker 7: is not how you hold a title up. But I
- 56:06Speaker 7: never had the experience before. And sure enough that's the
- 56:08Speaker 7: card that they used on like the Tops or whatever
- 56:11Speaker 7: whichever company made the card. But yeah, that was something,
- 56:16Speaker 7: you know, like this has always been my childhood dream.
- 56:18Speaker 7: When I was a kid in Winchester, we'd have all
- 56:20Speaker 7: the guys, all the kids in the pit what our
- 56:22Speaker 7: neighborhood was called. We would come through my friend. We
- 56:25Speaker 7: would have royal rumbles and battle royals, which I don't
- 56:28Speaker 7: suggest to any kids to do at home. Don't do that,
- 56:31Speaker 7: you know, because it was very dangerous. But we loved wrestling,
- 56:34Speaker 7: and I really like envisioned myself being at WrestleMania winning
- 56:38Speaker 7: the WWE Championship. So for me to actually have that happen,
- 56:42Speaker 7: the term have your dream come true is so cliche,
- 56:46Speaker 7: but that to me, like, that's what actually happened. This
- 56:48Speaker 7: is all I've ever wanted to do. So I've just
- 56:50Speaker 7: been so blessed to be able to be one of
- 56:52Speaker 7: the few people on this earth to say that they
- 56:55Speaker 7: have lived out their childhood dream and are continuing to
- 56:57Speaker 7: live out their childhood dreams. So it's been a while
- 57:00Speaker 7: ride that's awesome.
- 57:01Speaker 8: Well, Kofe, I had to reach out, you know, I
- 57:03Speaker 8: told you Meg Morant used to work. Yeah, you know,
- 57:06Speaker 8: she's a pro, so I figured i'd reach out to her.
- 57:08Speaker 8: So she scripted me a question. Oh wwemo out here
- 57:12Speaker 8: for a second. If you I'll do my best Meg Morant,
- 57:14Speaker 8: but a right this week is the new day is
- 57:16Speaker 8: ten year anniversary, wouldn't you know it? He and his
- 57:19Speaker 8: best friend, slash tag team partner, have not been able
- 57:21Speaker 8: to get on the same page for the past few months,
- 57:25Speaker 8: and last night on Raw Woods crossed the line bringing
- 57:27Speaker 8: up how Kofe Menia has ended.
- 57:29Speaker 6: How does Kofi forgive him.
- 57:31Speaker 8: I mean, these two got to get it together before
- 57:33Speaker 8: their big anniversary.
- 57:34Speaker 7: This is crazy. Meg Murran, my good friend, the person
- 57:37Speaker 7: who I'd say I told her she's just an amazing person,
- 57:42Speaker 7: and she gives me the hardest hitting question. I was
- 57:45Speaker 7: hoping to come here and i'd have to talk about that.
- 57:47Speaker 7: But yeah, Xavier Woods, he and I have been butting
- 57:52Speaker 7: heads as of late. But you know, families, that's what
- 57:54Speaker 7: they do. Anybody with siblings knows that at some point
- 57:57Speaker 7: in time you're gonna butt heads. Unfortunately for us, it's
- 58:00Speaker 7: kind of unfolding on television. We have our tenure anniversary
- 58:04Speaker 7: which is on Monday on RAW, and I don't know
- 58:08Speaker 7: what's going to happen. It's one of the first times
- 58:11Speaker 7: that like, I really have no idea what's going to
- 58:13Speaker 7: happen with the celebration is going to be. Like, we
- 58:15Speaker 7: have been a group for ten years and we've never
- 58:17Speaker 7: been into a fight, We've never had an argument. But
- 58:20Speaker 7: over the past few months we've been butting heads a
- 58:22Speaker 7: little bit, and last week things got pretty intense. After
- 58:26Speaker 7: our match. We were screaming at each other as soon
- 58:29Speaker 7: as we got backstage and saying some pretty terrible and
- 58:31Speaker 7: dacardly things to each other. But you know, uh, it
- 58:37Speaker 7: was what it was, and uh, I guess we'll figure
- 58:40Speaker 7: out what happens on Monday.
- 58:45Speaker 13: Yeah, you know you mentioned television and.
- 58:49Speaker 11: And now great moments in.
- 58:53Speaker 5: History. If you say he's a friend of Eric, isn't
- 58:57Speaker 5: that proper? Isn't a friend of Eric's redundant? If he
- 59:00Speaker 5: belongs to Eric? That's what the OV means. It's possessive.
- 59:03Speaker 5: So why do we get involve Eric's.
- 59:05Speaker 8: That's a good one, Like you don't you know it's
- 59:07Speaker 8: friend Eric's friend would be proper.
- 59:10Speaker 5: But if you say he's a friend of Eric, that's
- 59:12Speaker 5: also proper. Now, yes, but a lot of people say
- 59:15Speaker 5: he's a friend of Eric's, right, I don't. I don't
- 59:18Speaker 5: know that I'm right. I don't know that I'm right
- 59:19Speaker 5: about that one. So I'm not being a friend of Eric, right,
- 59:23Speaker 5: That's how I don't. That's how I would righty.
- 59:25Speaker 8: Grammar deep diving ap parillo English, I know very specific.
- 59:31Speaker 5: I know you just got on a blog and just
- 59:33Speaker 5: wrote on your own. Some of us had to go
- 59:35Speaker 5: to college and learn how to do it. Per elitism
- 59:41Speaker 5: not very good one.
- 59:42Speaker 2: But that's another great moment from.
- 59:47Speaker 3: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered eight fivey five
- 59:50Speaker 3: past five hundred is the TPX hotline.
- 59:52Speaker 5: Was manning the Holy Cross power play.
- 59:54Speaker 7: He wasn't a journalism class.
- 59:56Speaker 3: That's the second thank you podcast at email. I like that.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: That was early in Mike's tenure, when Paul was still
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: upset that I hired.
- 1:00:04Speaker 11: A blog.
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: And now look at us.
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: I was very much instrumental in Mike's hired Were you
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: you not so much? I know that that is not true,
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: that is not true an interview too, But Mike did
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: more work on you than I did. I did a
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: lot of work. Ye it's Fred or you were?
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: You were on my hockey dB page checking.
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: My sophomore status like what happened sophomore year?
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: I'm like, what is this guy? I liked you?
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: Like when you came in and did that that radio
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: show I took. I didn't realize.
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: Why I think what I did.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: I was glad I did.
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: When I did that radio presser, I started an argument
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: between you guys because I went right in with this
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: like takes and you guys started get into it, and
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: I was like, oh, I think this is good. Like
- 1:00:48Speaker 8: these guys are taking something I said and running with it.
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: You know that was that was good?
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: What's coming on?
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: I didn't realize how easy it was, though everybody thought
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: I was.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Speaking of each other. That's a good segment.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: A lot of people have said that. Yeah, yeah, buddy,
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Andy Hart said, how long is it going to take
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: you to fight him?
- 1:01:02Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: I've mellowed BB in New Hampshire writes, and I'm a
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: new listener as of this season thanks to my boyfriend
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: converting me. I've come to realize though, that he and
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: I have Paul verus Fred arguments. We'll be talking Patriots
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: and switch off on who's who. Sometimes I'll assume the
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Fred roll, asking pointed questions and challenging him on semantics
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: to pin down a opinion to hopefully later prove him wrong.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: And sometimes he'll assume the Paul role as more of
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: a stubborn katrarian who can't understand how anyone could be
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: so dumb as to disagree with him. The funny part
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: is that we always come to the so we agree conclusion,
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: but managed to spend twenty minutes arguing as if we
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: aren't on the same side. He loves you, guys, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: turns twenty seven on the twelve. So please, if you
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: read this, wish Joe in New Hampshire a happy birthday.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Thank you guys for the endless entertainment. So Joe, Happy birthday, Joe,
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: early birthday.
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: You guys are doing it right, good job.
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: I don't congratulations if you're winning arguments with your girlfriend too,
- 1:02:00Speaker 8: like you're walking away peacefully from those like most argument.
- 1:02:03Speaker 8: That doesn't sound like most couple arguments.
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: I know of life.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: I'm a friend. I'm the friend of arguing when I
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: argue with that.
- 1:02:12Speaker 11: Even if you're right, though you're wrong, you know it
- 1:02:14Speaker 11: just counting.
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: You're just holding out until you're ready to say sorry.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: And while we're on the just stop this.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: While we're on the girlfriend whose boyfriends are big fans theme,
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: Julia right Sin. I wanted to reach out because my
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: boyfriend Cameron absolutely loves the Patriots and your podcast. To
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: be honest, I've never been interested in sports, but after
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: meeting my boyfriend, I began to learn more and more.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: You guys have been a huge help and are so
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: fun to listen to. Fred, You're hilarious. Thank you. I
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: was wondering if you could give a shout out to
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Cameron Fox of Brockport, New York, for being an awesome
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: guy and a loyal Patriots fan. It would mean the world.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: All right, camera fans, this is for you.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: Awesome.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: You've got a great girlfriend, she's got good taste and shows.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: I don't know about you, but shows for sure.
- 1:03:05Speaker 11: I'm not no.
- 1:03:06Speaker 8: Yeah, all right, So we're bringing people together, bringing couples together.
- 1:03:11Speaker 8: People could do like one of those things where they
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: have all the people that got married because of Patriots
- 1:03:15Speaker 8: on filter and you'll have them all together for a party.
- 1:03:16Speaker 11: Yeah, I count sure. Oh, I'm pretty sure that that's
- 1:03:23Speaker 11: not true. No, not at all.
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: We'll go with it though.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: All right, so let's turn to our callers on the
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: TPX hotline. We've been, as No Socks would say, patiently
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: standing by.
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: No Socks dropped the MESH concept today.
- 1:03:37Speaker 10: We were waiting for you, like, No Socks, don't talk
- 1:03:38Speaker 10: scheme until Mesh.
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: I don't think it was crazy.
- 1:03:43Speaker 11: I'm not saying this about No Socks because his football
- 1:03:46Speaker 11: knowledge is fantastic, but apparently we're not ready to have
- 1:03:49Speaker 11: the conversation of what mesh actually is and looks like
- 1:03:53Speaker 11: because you know, everybody, the spacing is horrible. Every single
- 1:03:56Speaker 11: time you run mesh I digress. It drives me nuts. Okay,
- 1:04:02Speaker 11: just like it's a crossing concept. They're supposed to intersect,
- 1:04:06Speaker 11: they're supposed to cross, So if you freeze the frame
- 1:04:09Speaker 11: where they're crossing, then yes, they are on top of
- 1:04:12Speaker 11: each other, because that's the point of the concept.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: He's like a math a calculus professor trying to teach
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: it to like third grader.
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: It's like, it's not hard.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: I don't you understand because we're hangover.
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: When when Zach Galafanarkus is doing the blackjack and all
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: the things are going.
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Right right, a beautiful.
- 1:04:33Speaker 13: Mind funny because he's fat.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: Let's go to Christian in Virginia. What's up Christian?
- 1:04:42Speaker 15: Hey, guys, how's it going on?
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: Hey? Pretty good?
- 1:04:46Speaker 16: I guess I'm in the same boat as spread Uh.
- 1:04:49Speaker 16: With that, I always feel like this is gonna be
- 1:04:53Speaker 16: the week, and I'm always a little bit disappointed. But
- 1:04:56Speaker 16: I will say my optimism is carrying on. The Jets
- 1:05:00Speaker 16: are having a horrible season, and we're probably gonna have
- 1:05:03Speaker 16: a pretty good pick. And on top of that, I
- 1:05:07Speaker 16: feel like the dread of having a high pick is
- 1:05:10Speaker 16: a little bit less now that Bill isn't picking stuff.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: Oh there you go, good Christian. Thanks for ohtay, Okay,
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: thanks for the call. No, I every week I think
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: this is the week they're gonna hit thirty. They haven't
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: been able to.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: Well, this was a good pick. I have to be
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: honest with you. You picked thirty one and they had
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: twenty four, and they had more than ample opportunity to
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: make it thirty one.
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: Okay, you need a blanket.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: You got your hands, so say I was onto something.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: I just gave you your props. I gave you your
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: flow up.
- 1:05:42Speaker 11: I won't bog down the show on draft talk. We're
- 1:05:45Speaker 11: going to do draft talk on Catch twenty two on Thursday.
- 1:05:48Speaker 11: Oh wait, you can listen to that there if you want.
- 1:05:51Speaker 11: Last year a fantastic year to stink. This year it's
- 1:05:55Speaker 11: not shaping up to be such a great year to stink.
- 1:05:58Speaker 11: So just to keep that in mind about the Patriots
- 1:06:00Speaker 11: draft pick.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Not being a good year to stink. So, in other words,
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: it's not a deep draft.
- 1:06:04Speaker 11: No, it's not a very good draft period.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Really, why do you think that is? Like the after
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: effects of COVID, A lot of guys have come out
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: they didn't you know, like.
- 1:06:15Speaker 11: I didn't think of it that way. I don't know.
- 1:06:17Speaker 11: I haven't really thought about it. I think some years
- 1:06:19Speaker 11: are better than others. This year reminds me a lot
- 1:06:21Speaker 11: of the twenty twenty two draft, where there was Kenny
- 1:06:24Speaker 11: Pickett was the only first round quarterback. You know, Aiden
- 1:06:27Speaker 11: Hutchinson comes out of that draft, Sauce Gardner. You know,
- 1:06:29Speaker 11: there are good players in every draft, right Like, I'm
- 1:06:32Speaker 11: not saying that every guy is gonna stink. But last year,
- 1:06:35Speaker 11: in my mind, there were seven blue chip prospects at
- 1:06:38Speaker 11: the top of the draft. The three quarterbacks Joe alt
- 1:06:42Speaker 11: Brock Bauers, Marvin Harrison, Junior Molik Neighbors. This draft, I
- 1:06:46Speaker 11: don't know if there's one.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: Don't care about that as much I care about the
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: depth of the draft, because even if you are at
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: the top of the draft like the Patriots are, there's
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: only you're lucky to get that one blue chip guy.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: It's the rest of the picks that I'm more concerned about.
- 1:07:00Speaker 11: I hear you, if you have to hit on three
- 1:07:02Speaker 11: picks at least, But this last year, based off of
- 1:07:06Speaker 11: what we've seen so far, I think you could make
- 1:07:08Speaker 11: the case that all seven of those guys are going
- 1:07:11Speaker 11: to be hits, like Caleb will see if the Bears
- 1:07:13Speaker 11: get their no, but we're only going to be able
- 1:07:15Speaker 11: to get one of them, right.
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: But can I just interject here for sure, let's just
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: use apples to apples. So if you have a guy like,
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: let's just say brock Bowers, if he's that much better
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: than everybody else, the next guy might be a pretty
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: good player. But if you don't have that caliber player
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: at the top, correct, it stands to reason that the
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: guys in the ensuing rounds will not be as good
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: as the guys in the ensuing rounds because because down.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: Wait about it, it's like that that makes no sense. Listen, listen,
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Let's just say brock Bowers tight end. I know who
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: he is. By the way say it. Let's just say
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: he's a blue chipper. Okay, so there's a separation between
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: him and the rest of the tight ends. That doesn't
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: mean they got worse because he got better.
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: It's dropping like the best tight end is going to
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: make that. So now the guys that are in the
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: ensuing rounds are not as good.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: They're not as good as him.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: It just stands to reason, I'll give you, they're not
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: as good as the guy who's going to be the
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: number one at the position, and that guy is not
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: as good as they've been.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: But what I'm saying, no, but like, let's just say
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: that they're not as good as him. But let's just
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: say that they're fine in second round talent, they're fine,
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: third round.
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: Talent, you know, yeah, the best one might be that.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: Well fine, that's my point is just not as much
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: high end talent.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: So the talent no, but but drops not well I disagree.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: My point is that as a Patriots stand right now,
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: we're only gonna get one shot at a first round pick.
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: I'm more concerned with how deep is the rest of
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: the rounds? Is there is there talents spread out on
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: the rest of the draft.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: They're not going I can't tell you what the whole
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: depth of the draft is. But these guys that talk
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: about it say, no.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: It's not about Well, that's what I'm That's what I'm
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: more worried about.
- 1:09:16Speaker 11: Yeah, I would just say that. My point was is
- 1:09:19Speaker 11: that you want to if let's they're picking fifth, fourth
- 1:09:23Speaker 11: overall right now, they have the fourth overall pick in
- 1:09:25Speaker 11: the draft, you want to use that pick on somebody
- 1:09:27Speaker 11: who is worthy of the fourth overall pick. Sure, you
- 1:09:30Speaker 11: don't want to just have to pick a guy. And
- 1:09:32Speaker 11: right now, as I'm starting to go through some of
- 1:09:34Speaker 11: these guys, especially on the offensive side of the ball,
- 1:09:37Speaker 11: it kind of feels like you're just gonna have to
- 1:09:39Speaker 11: end up picking somebody because you have to pick.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: Well, that's a problem. You have to turn into car
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: be able to trade down because everyone sees the same thing, right,
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: and there's.
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: No quarterback quarterback advice you to move on to people.
- 1:09:49Speaker 11: Just to give a tangible example, Ted McMillan from Arizona's
- 1:09:53Speaker 11: nice player. Like, I think he's a nice player. I
- 1:09:56Speaker 11: probably would have had him as like the fourth or
- 1:09:57Speaker 11: fifth receiver in the class last year. So this year
- 1:10:00Speaker 11: he's going to be the first receiver. To give you
- 1:10:02Speaker 11: a peek into the Evan soul. Yeah, So, Mike, can
- 1:10:06Speaker 11: I do the pregame show on Sunday? We come upstairs
- 1:10:08Speaker 11: and it's usually like maybe ten twelve minutes before kickoff.
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: So I walk over and sit down next to Fred.
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: I look at Evan. Evan's got his laptop open. What
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: is he watching Arizona TCU highlights?
- 1:10:26Speaker 11: But he's a nice player, Like I think that, like
- 1:10:29Speaker 11: you know t Higgins, Drake London. I think those are
- 1:10:31Speaker 11: like decent comps for him. But last year he's he's
- 1:10:34Speaker 11: the fourth or fifth guy off the board at that position.
- 1:10:37Speaker 11: This year he's a top ten pick. Like, that's not
- 1:10:39Speaker 11: what you want. You want to just have to take
- 1:10:41Speaker 11: him by default?
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, you want somebody, So I do want somebody
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: that's worth it because you're paying them a lot.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: And I know what your point is, like, that doesn't
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: necessarily mean they are on as many you know, the
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: second round, third round guys.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: If the guys that are the second round talent.
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: My feeling is the second round guys in the past
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: are being taken in the first round when there's no
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: high end talent. Yea, So now the third round guys
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: are second round guys.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: Unless they were really close.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, maybe, but I think that's sort of
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: hard to imagine. That's all I'm this. And again I
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: don't know. I don't know the depth of the draft.
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: I don't. It's not my area of expertise.
- 1:11:17Speaker 11: It's not I'm nowhere near ready to comment on the
- 1:11:19Speaker 11: depth of the draft in terms of the days two
- 1:11:21Speaker 11: and three, but Day one, just again, like you know,
- 1:11:24Speaker 11: I think there's a lot of the town on the
- 1:11:25Speaker 11: defensive side of the ball is decent. You know, some
- 1:11:28Speaker 11: of these guys on offense will be contributors in the league.
- 1:11:31Speaker 11: I'm sure. And maybe I'm wrong and something one of
- 1:11:32Speaker 11: these guys will explode. But in my mind, like Travis
- 1:11:35Speaker 11: Hunter is really the only true blue chip talent in
- 1:11:38Speaker 11: this draft, And if there's no quarterback going one to one,
- 1:11:41Speaker 11: then Travis Hunter is gonna go with the first overall pick.
- 1:11:43Speaker 11: So if the Patriots aren't picking.
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: First over the running back, I know he's.
- 1:11:48Speaker 11: Gender, well that's a running back, but yeah, is he
- 1:11:51Speaker 11: a blue chip running back? I mean I don't really
- 1:11:54Speaker 11: believe in blue chip running back boy, so.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: Well, was he like Bjon Robinson or Jamiir Gibbs.
- 1:12:00Speaker 11: Uh, he's smaller than Bijon, So like that is like
- 1:12:04Speaker 11: a concern that true? Yeah, Yeah, he's really good. He's
- 1:12:10Speaker 11: really really good. He probably should win the Heisman. I
- 1:12:12Speaker 11: think Travis Hunter is going to just because of the
- 1:12:14Speaker 11: name recognition, but Genry probably should win it. He's a
- 1:12:18Speaker 11: really good player, but he's running back.
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: Yeah, this schools comes on the heels too.
- 1:12:21Speaker 8: I remember having the conversation last year around the draft
- 1:12:23Speaker 8: of that, A lot of the sixth and seventh round guys,
- 1:12:26Speaker 8: they say, are like Udfa's now like that the depth
- 1:12:28Speaker 8: in the draft generally hasn't been.
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: And that's Fred's thing too about the the COVID that
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: add extra. You know, COVID you still get every game
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: you watch, it's just like fifth, sixth, seventh year guys.
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: You know that Miami guys. Ninth year it's also nil.
- 1:12:44Speaker 11: You know, like a lot of the guys are going
- 1:12:45Speaker 11: back because they're getting to go back, so now they'll
- 1:12:49Speaker 11: go into next year's draft, so that that.
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: Is going to take a few years.
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: But I do understand you, yeah with yeah, I mean,
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: maybe you don't get a blue chip guy with the
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: fourth overall pick, but you can still get good players.
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: And if you can, then that that's okay. But I
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: just think it stands to reason that if the highest
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: the first round picks are not first rounders every year,
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: they're just first rounders this year, then my guess is
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: the second rounders aren't second rounders every year, their second
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: round is this year. Like, I just think it's a
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: trickle down. I can't imagine that this draft has you know,
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: fifty really good players but no great ones, whereas most
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: drafts only have twenty really good players, but ten great ones,
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: like doesn't doesn't that hard to imagine? I don't know,
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: not really, and I'm just using, you know, random numbers.
- 1:13:42Speaker 11: I'm coming around to defense. All right, that's awesome, Jared.
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: I just think of whatever, whatever you think is the
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: very best player, Like this is a year you have
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: to stick to your quarter unless it's a quarterback.
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: Jared in LA. What's up? Jared only waited for over
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: an hour, so I guess, hang up. Emory is in Virginia.
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: What's up? Emory? Emory?
- 1:14:10Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: Are you there?
- 1:14:11Speaker 15: Hey?
- 1:14:12Speaker 17: Good at the gentlemen? Hey, I enjoyed listen to you.
- 1:14:16Speaker 17: I appreciate keep them this informed with football, sure, but
- 1:14:19Speaker 17: I do have a bone on the pick with you,
- 1:14:22Speaker 17: just some of the the version and the lack of support.
- 1:14:28Speaker 17: What in my opinion for coach Mayo at times? Hey,
- 1:14:32Speaker 17: thirteen games. You know Belichick, Jimmy Johnson, Dan Kimbell and
- 1:14:37Speaker 17: a few others. They didn't get off to great stars
- 1:14:41Speaker 17: all them. Ask me give the man a chance, and
- 1:14:44Speaker 17: I said, I know. There have been some positive verbage
- 1:14:46Speaker 17: as well, but not enough. We're just saying thirteen games.
- 1:14:50Speaker 17: I think he's the man cut out for the job.
- 1:14:52Speaker 17: But we need to slow our role and put that
- 1:14:56Speaker 17: that loose away. Don't don't hang him yet.
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: Just yeah that I don't know anyone's doing.
- 1:15:01Speaker 17: All right, thank you?
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: No, no, no, But every stay on though, yeah you
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: know for a second, because no, I hear what you're saying.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: But we can't every week say we got to give
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: him a chance. We have to talk about what's going on.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: So tell me some positives. Give me some positives, some.
- 1:15:17Speaker 17: Positives that those guys are playing hard for him. Those
- 1:15:21Speaker 17: guys are playing hard. And I haven't heard anything come
- 1:15:25Speaker 17: out from Robert k about, you know, about Mayo and
- 1:15:32Speaker 17: the job that he's doing. I think he understands that
- 1:15:35Speaker 17: this is his first opportunity as a head coach and
- 1:15:38Speaker 17: there's gonna be some hiccups.
- 1:15:40Speaker 11: Come on.
- 1:15:41Speaker 17: The last Belichick put in twenty plus years, some good years,
- 1:15:45Speaker 17: but those last three to four years, come on, come on,
- 1:15:49Speaker 17: that was unacceptable. I agree with yeah, But you know what,
- 1:15:53Speaker 17: we didn't. We didn't hope because we we thought about
- 1:15:56Speaker 17: all the good years that he brought, you know, in
- 1:15:58Speaker 17: the Super Bowls and stuff like that, and so all
- 1:16:01Speaker 17: I'm saying, thirteen games. Really, come on, gentlemen, please okay,
- 1:16:06Speaker 17: give him an opportunity. So like you, like you said, Fred,
- 1:16:09Speaker 17: that's a legitimate question. Yeah, you know every week, come on, now,
- 1:16:15Speaker 17: it hasn't been. There have been some positive sciences, stuff
- 1:16:18Speaker 17: like that he's trying to be his own man, and
- 1:16:21Speaker 17: those some big shoes to feel, you know when it
- 1:16:24Speaker 17: comes coach Bilichick and all that. But all I'm just saying,
- 1:16:29Speaker 17: thirteen games, you please, come.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: On, no doubt? Okay, is there a lot on this,
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: thanks Emory.
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: Well, I don't think there's any chance that he's not
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: back next year.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I don't know. I think we all think
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: he'll be back. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: I mean I don't really feel like we're.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: Overly No, I don't think we are overly negative with
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: But at the same time, we have to be fair.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: If we believe that, you know, coaching affected a game negatively,
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: we have to say that.
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: I think there's been some mistakes and like like Hemory said,
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: he's only coached thirteen games, he's gonna make Yeah, Like,
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: I think game calculation, game mistakes. I think it was
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: an error as an example, to not call timeouts on
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: defense in the last minute. Once the Colts got first
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: and goal from the seven, I think they should have
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: been calling time out, and you know, you look at it,
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: they end up getting to midfield. If they had twenty
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: more seconds, might they get to the thirty five right?
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: And then you kick a field goal to win the game.
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Well that's.
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: What that's all.
- 1:17:29Speaker 8: If you wanted to get better, you got to talk
- 1:17:30Speaker 8: about these things. Is the things he's got to clean up.
- 1:17:32Speaker 10: I'm sure he's analyzing these things too.
- 1:17:34Speaker 11: But I just think there just doesn't seem to be
- 1:17:36Speaker 11: a rhyme or reason to the timeout usage in these games.
- 1:17:41Speaker 11: Like before halftime, they're running the ball while simultaneously stopping
- 1:17:46Speaker 11: the clock with timeout, So I get the goal is
- 1:17:49Speaker 11: to make sure that that's the last possession of the half.
- 1:17:52Speaker 11: So then wouldn't to use a Paul phrase when that
- 1:17:55Speaker 11: stands to reason to let the clock run after you
- 1:17:57Speaker 11: run the football, Like why are you running the ball
- 1:18:00Speaker 11: and then calling a time out immediately to stop the clock?
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: You wanted to run the ball, then run to the
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: line and run it again, right, and then call timeout
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: so you still have you know, if you let the
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: clock that way.
- 1:18:09Speaker 11: Let it run so that you milk some of that
- 1:18:11Speaker 11: clock off so that it is the last possession of
- 1:18:13Speaker 11: the of the half, and then at the end of
- 1:18:15Speaker 11: the game. I'm you know, I'm with Paul, like how
- 1:18:17Speaker 11: you don't call timeouts on defense there to give your
- 1:18:21Speaker 11: offense as much time as possible to rebuttal knowing that
- 1:18:24Speaker 11: they really haven't st you all day on that side
- 1:18:27Speaker 11: of the football, at least until you get to the red.
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: Zone, which you wouldn't even need to do, you wouldn't
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: have to write.
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: So and you know, we say those things knowing, yeah,
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: he's new and he's but these are the things that
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: he has to get better at.
- 1:18:39Speaker 11: I think the frustration for me too is just like,
- 1:18:41Speaker 11: you know, he has people on staff Evan Rostein is
- 1:18:44Speaker 11: the name that he always talks about, that are supposed
- 1:18:47Speaker 11: to be advising him in these types of situations, So
- 1:18:50Speaker 11: like it's the people around him too that are sort
- 1:18:52Speaker 11: of letting him down, it seems like. And if those
- 1:18:54Speaker 11: guys are on the headset saying time out, time out,
- 1:18:57Speaker 11: time out, and he's just ignoring them because he's going
- 1:19:01Speaker 11: off of his own gut or his own instincts or whatever,
- 1:19:04Speaker 11: then you know that that's a kind of a problem. Too, like,
- 1:19:07Speaker 11: because it's obviously not working. You know, the method is
- 1:19:10Speaker 11: not working.
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: So we're gonna, like, I feel like we need to
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: talk about the games and whatnot. Now the big picture.
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: I'm with Emery big picture. You know, thirteen games, he's
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: you know, he's gonna you know, get better at these
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: things the radically and get his own players in and
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: have his culture and all that stuff. But week to week,
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: I think we need to analyze what happens in the game.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: You know, the first game that he coached, could he
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: have gotten any more praise from this show and all
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: others around here about how good they looked, how how
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: disciplined prepared, the game plan on both sides, the lack
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: of penalties, the lack of mistakes, and they go to
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: Cincinnati and win a game. I mean that was the
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: quote unquote narrative in week one, right, So I think
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: you have to sort of not to steal my show's line.
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: But we have a show to do today.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: We talked before the break and I asked the question
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: coming out of the by what should be the message
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: from Mayo to his team? Four games left? What's your message?
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: Who wants to be here?
- 1:20:16Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: Well it's not to me, it's it's it's not even
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: who wants to be here. It's like you're a professional,
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: whether you're here or not. Everything you do is on tape,
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: so as a professional.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: Like that's the whole. Like they play hard for him,
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: Like I don't know, but right now the Jets are
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: a dumpster fire. They emptied the bucket on Sunday. That's
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: a game that they will win in for fifty nine
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: minutes and they couldn't win at the end. Like teams
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: play hard. I mean, these guys are exactly what you said.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: You're a professional. If you're not going to be there,
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: if you're not going to be part of the future
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: for that team, you got to put something on tape.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: That someone's going to be wanting for somebody.
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: These guys are fighting for their NFL lives. Like I
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: don't think there's a lot of dumping in the NFL.
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: Now there might be, Like Carolina clearly sold off a
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: lot of pieces last year because they wanted to get bad.
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: I think you can make an argument that Washington did
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: it with cha Chase Brown. Yeah, Chase Young Young And
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: I almost called Chase Brown it's a running back. Chase
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: Young in sweat you know, you can sell off pieces
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: maybe to not put yourself in the best position to win,
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: but you can't ask your players to go out there
- 1:21:27Speaker 5: and not play hard.
- 1:21:28Speaker 11: That's tankings from the management and ownership. Well right, like
- 1:21:32Speaker 11: that's from that's some upstairs to use a hockey term,
- 1:21:34Speaker 11: not ice level, like that they don't the players are.
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: I would agree with Emory. I think the Patriots have
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: played hard. I think the other teams play hard too,
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: and I don't think there's a lot of like they
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: just didn't really show up, like they got blasted in Miami.
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: I don't think it's because they weren't trying. I really don't.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: I know some people said they quit, they quit, they quit.
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: I don't think that they weren't trying in Miami. They
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: just played poorly.
- 1:21:57Speaker 8: It's a really big challenge to play these teams that
- 1:21:58Speaker 8: they got to play too. And I mean, we talked
- 1:22:00Speaker 8: about the defense.
- 1:22:03Speaker 10: They're gonna have to face Buffalo.
- 1:22:06Speaker 6: It was really good twice.
- 1:22:08Speaker 8: So all the things we're saying about the defense right now, like,
- 1:22:10Speaker 8: let's imagine what those things look like through the prism
- 1:22:12Speaker 8: of Josh.
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: Something about Buffalo that I'm a little worried about that
- 1:22:15Speaker 5: like I don't remember ever having to be what like
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: they could just line up and run it at you.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: Now they're having too much fun. It's becoming really easy
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: for them. You know what your window, Well, they played
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: some good team Anderson window. The windows closing on that prediction.
- 1:22:36Speaker 11: If you're division five years in a row, the coach
- 1:22:43Speaker 11: is doing snow angels on the field post game. Money
- 1:22:46Speaker 11: is alright, can you believe that?
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: Matt told me that. No, Socks told me that. On money,
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: He goes, what do you think of Ara's snow angel?
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: I couldn't believe it.
- 1:22:53Speaker 8: No, it's they're they're having fun in Buffalo because it's
- 1:22:58Speaker 8: coming easier to them.
- 1:22:59Speaker 5: But I just like they line up now and they.
- 1:23:01Speaker 11: James Cook, they just run it at you, like from
- 1:23:04Speaker 11: in the snow game, from under center to like not
- 1:23:06Speaker 11: designed like with Josh Allen as a factor like they
- 1:23:09Speaker 11: used to have to do. Like now they can literally
- 1:23:11Speaker 11: just run it traditionally right at you, like Alo back
- 1:23:15Speaker 11: to like you.
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: Know, I just well, that's the other thing. It's it's
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: kind of interesting around the league how some of these
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: long term guys are starting to come back like a
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: boost before the play Hollywood Brown might be coming back
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: for the Chiefs. They're gonna get I mean, this is
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: not the same category, but Dj Humphries I think might
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: be getting ready to play left tackle for them. That's
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: been a disaster. You watch any of that Black Friday game.
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: They can't block their tackles, can't block anybody. And you know,
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: if you had any questions as to why Kansas City
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: is so sporadic offensively, that's it.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: There's no way Buffalo can win a Super Bowl. I'm sorry, Oh,
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: I'm not saying they're I'm not saying they're not capable.
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: I think they're saying in the in the for the
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: order of the universe, they.
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: They're a notch behind. I think Detroit Philadelphia, like Philadelphia
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: has been really impressive too. We don't we don't really
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: talk about them.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: I don't know if there are not behind anybody right now.
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: But yeah, you know what, I'm just not sold on
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: the Bills defense. I know they've played well, I'm not
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: sold on their defense. I think you can run on them,
- 1:24:19Speaker 5: and I think they're I still think they're a little
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: soft defensively.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: Molano will help.
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: If he can be healthy. What's that.
- 1:24:27Speaker 11: I do think they have the MVP of the league.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: Well, yeah, that's why.
- 1:24:30Speaker 8: I mean, that's that's that's one he and what's the
- 1:24:33Speaker 8: conversation like as we go into the off season with
- 1:24:35Speaker 8: the Patriots coming off a two out of three against
- 1:24:38Speaker 8: that team, you know, that's that's going to be, you know,
- 1:24:40Speaker 8: a report card for you. And so Fred asked about
- 1:24:44Speaker 8: how are we going to handle these last four games? Well,
- 1:24:47Speaker 8: you got four good teams that you know, you need
- 1:24:49Speaker 8: to show something against. You can't roll out there and
- 1:24:51Speaker 8: just try to end the season. I mean that they'll
- 1:24:53Speaker 8: get they'll get walloped.
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: Yeah, the message needs to be, you know, we need
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: to keep improving. Yeah, you know, we need to keep
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: moving forward and keep improving, keep doing these things like offensively,
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: you get a little momentum you started, right, let's keep
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: building on it. Evan talked about there was a lot
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: of different creative things that we hadn't really seen. Let's
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: keep putting.
- 1:25:12Speaker 7: More of those in.
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, let's improve in the red zone. Maybe
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: some design zone reads for Drake may in the red zone,
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: stuff like that.
- 1:25:20Speaker 11: They did do a couple of them, and they all
- 1:25:21Speaker 11: converted to andoffs, of course, but I just I look
- 1:25:25Speaker 11: at it that is the biggest thing to me is like,
- 1:25:27Speaker 11: if you're talking to you know, Drake May and some
- 1:25:29Speaker 11: of the guys that are going to be here even
- 1:25:32Speaker 11: just this is how you build momentum into next season
- 1:25:36Speaker 11: is by finishing this season strong and figuring out what
- 1:25:39Speaker 11: you're good at now this season and then you build
- 1:25:41Speaker 11: and build and build. Now, that's how teams get better.
- 1:25:44Speaker 11: That's how Detroit got better. San Francisco trades for Jimmy
- 1:25:47Speaker 11: Garoppolo and has a nice end of the year and
- 1:25:50Speaker 11: his first year there. Then the next year they're contender.
- 1:25:53Speaker 11: Like that's how you build a team. And you know
- 1:25:55Speaker 11: it might not be for everybody because they might not
- 1:25:57Speaker 11: all be here, you know, next year, but for the
- 1:26:00Speaker 11: guys that you know for a fact are going to
- 1:26:02Speaker 11: be on this roster in twenty twenty five, that's got
- 1:26:04Speaker 11: to be the message is let's continue to build forward
- 1:26:07Speaker 11: so that we can hit the ground running in twenty five.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, back on the TPX outline, Tim is
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: in Boston. Hey, Tim Thig.
- 1:26:17Speaker 15: Guys, I have a big problem with how the NFL called.
- 1:26:20Speaker 18: CPI in certain situations that happen on Sunday and then
- 1:26:24Speaker 18: the chief game left Friday. It happens when the receiver
- 1:26:27Speaker 18: in the corner are running stride for stride on a
- 1:26:29Speaker 18: go route and a quarterback underthrows it. So the receiver
- 1:26:32Speaker 18: stops and comes back towards the ball and initiates contact
- 1:26:36Speaker 18: with the corner who's not looking, and they call it
- 1:26:38Speaker 18: every time it bails out a bad throw against good coverage.
- 1:26:40Speaker 18: It drives me crazy. I think they need to make
- 1:26:43Speaker 18: some rule where if the receiver initiates the contact, it's
- 1:26:45Speaker 18: not DPI.
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: What do you think, Well, the problem with that, I
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: hear what you saw him, but if the defender looks back,
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: he's not going to get called. The problem is he
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: has no idea where the ball is, and you're calling
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: it a bad throw. A lot of times it's supposed
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: to be that. It's supposed to be a coming back
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: that Yeah, thanks Tim What Tom Brady?
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: Yeah, the back shoulder throw, No one threw it better. Yeah,
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: and he did it first.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: So a lot of times that sets up the defender
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: to be in that bad position. So as a ref
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: youve got to call that because he's not going for
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: the ball, he's not making a play for the ball,
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: he has no idea where the ball is, and he's
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: impeding the receiver from getting to the ball. There's no
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: other way. What there's nothing else to do but to
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: call PI.
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: If the receiver was running across the field and then
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: stopped and ran back the other way for the ball
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: and ran into the defensive back, would you say that
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: that's pass interference?
- 1:27:39Speaker 11: Of course?
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: Yeah, So why wouldn't you do it? If he's running
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: up the field and comes back.
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: From that, you can't impede the guy unless you know,
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: like you're like I said, it's fifty to fifty and
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: you're going for the ball to.
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: Those are the ones I hate. Yeah, when the guy
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: does go up and mix a play on the ball
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: and you know there's some hand fighting and stuff, and
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: they call those, but the like the and it's not
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: fair to Jeelani Tavai. He's thirty yards downfield chasing the guy.
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: Of course he's behind him. He's not he shouldn't.
- 1:28:05Speaker 11: Those are different to me. I I don't like the
- 1:28:08Speaker 11: ones that are go routes where it's ten yards underthrowne
- 1:28:12Speaker 11: and the receiver is clearly almost flopping, like the receiver
- 1:28:16Speaker 11: is clear and it's.
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: Not a ball, right, but you could tell the difference.
- 1:28:21Speaker 11: Yeah, but they don't they they don't tell the difference.
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: Well, that's that's why every place should be reviewable.
- 1:28:27Speaker 11: I just think there needs to be something reviews.
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: I know it's that doesn't mean you have more reviews, Paul,
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: but you just said every play is reviewable. You can,
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: but you still have the you're still limited as a team,
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: but you can choose to review any play.
- 1:28:43Speaker 11: I just think there needs to be some sort of
- 1:28:47Speaker 11: They don't call it a lot, like you know, embellishment
- 1:28:49Speaker 11: or flopping in basketball or whatever. They have rules now
- 1:28:53Speaker 11: where it's like if you're hockey they call it. Yeah,
- 1:28:55Speaker 11: if it's a ten yard underthrow on a deep ball
- 1:28:58Speaker 11: and the receiver purposely initiates contact by going back to
- 1:29:02Speaker 11: the football, and like.
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: You know, that I think is interference. Like I have
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: no problem with that. The first one you described, I'm
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: with you, Like it's it's like woefully underthrown. The two
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: guys just kind of like and the guy just kind
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: of like flops, he knows he has no chance, throws
- 1:29:18Speaker 5: his arms up and like that to me.
- 1:29:20Speaker 11: If you're both running like stride for stride down the
- 1:29:23Speaker 11: field and the balls in the air and it's clearly underthrown.
- 1:29:26Speaker 11: The receiver looks back to it and just slams on
- 1:29:28Speaker 11: the brakes because the ball is clearly underthrown. Like, you
- 1:29:33Speaker 11: gotta be how It's like if you're on the highway
- 1:29:36Speaker 11: and the car in front of you stop, Sure, who's
- 1:29:38Speaker 11: fault is that yours?
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: Yours?
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: Yours?
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: The car behind is always he's always at fault.
- 1:29:44Speaker 11: Yeah, I don't agree with that.
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: I have to be aware.
- 1:29:46Speaker 11: So there you go.
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: You have to be aware around it.
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: And so if you're running stride for stride and you're
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: both looking back and the balls woefully underthrown, you're stopping too.
- 1:29:55Speaker 11: But I just don't think that, Like I get what
- 1:29:57Speaker 11: you guys are saying. I just I think for the
- 1:29:59Speaker 11: defensive player, like, it's not how it's coached, And that's
- 1:30:02Speaker 11: just really difficult.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: I know, it's it's a it's a hard position.
- 1:30:05Speaker 11: If you're playing man coverage in your back is to
- 1:30:07Speaker 11: the quarterback, and that doesn't necessarily mean that your burnt
- 1:30:10Speaker 11: your beat.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: It just means that's how you play man.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: You're chasing and what I'm saying, but see if what
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: you're saying, if you know you can get away with
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: that as a defender you face mask not I don't
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: mean grab them, but you get stars every time, And
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: how's he gonna catch the ball.
- 1:30:26Speaker 11: But that's not what I'm necessarily talking about. I'm just
- 1:30:29Speaker 11: saying when guys like obviously, when the receiver is running
- 1:30:32Speaker 11: a route and the defender's playing man to man behind him,
- 1:30:36Speaker 11: like he's obviously gonna have his back to the quarterback
- 1:30:38Speaker 11: and he's gonna be behind like on his back hip right, Like, that's.
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: Just when you see that receiver.
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: But I'm not talking necessarily like right perfectly in phase,
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: Like there could be a play where that happens what
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: you're talking about, and I don't like those either, But
- 1:30:55Speaker 5: I'm talking about a play like Tavai the other day
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: where he's like five yards behind, Like no, the one
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: to Marcus Jones to Mitchell. If that ball had been
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: underthrown and Mitchell stopped and came back for it, that
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: should be interference. I mean, Marcus Jones was not in
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: good position on that play and he's chasing, he's desperately
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: trying to get in. But now the throw was out
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: to the outside, so there was no interference on it.
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: But if that throw was short and Mitchell comes back
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: and he has to go through the defender. That should
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: be a penalty.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: Unless Marcus Jones turns aroun.
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: It makes a player to make a play, right.
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: That's different.
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: It's hard to coach.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: That's it's really hard to play.
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: Yeah, it is, especially that situation.
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: I could talk to for I mean, I forget half
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: of the stuff that he said. But Bill gave us
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: a dissertation on that in a in a production meeting
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: one year before a preseason game. And I was I
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: was the receiver he stacked. I stacked him, and then
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: he was in phase. He had all the all the
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: all the.
- 1:31:52Speaker 11: I just did. I I don't care for.
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: The like you got to go up underneath it's put
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: my arms out like this. He's like, you got to
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: go up in between the arms, you know, and like
- 1:32:04Speaker 5: he had. It was I mean, it was unbelievable how
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: the minute details and minutia that he came up with.
- 1:32:11Speaker 11: When you're a team that plays as much man coverage
- 1:32:13Speaker 11: as the Patriots do, you're gonna get beat. And so
- 1:32:16Speaker 11: playing the ball from out of phase is an art
- 1:32:18Speaker 11: that you have to master in this defense, and they've
- 1:32:21Speaker 11: been really good at coaching it over the years. They're
- 1:32:24Speaker 11: they're one of the better.
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: I would agree with that.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: I'll never forget Bryant College. Paul after a practice Belichick,
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: not Belichick, parcels as ty Law who had just got
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: drafted on the side. This is after practice teaching him
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: when you're going down the sideline with the player with
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: the receiver, you don't use your inside arm. You use
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: your outside arm. And he showed how it's like four
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: or five inches higher up if you use that outside
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: arm instead of this arm. And and Tyler was like,
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: oh okay in Michigan.
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, coaching.
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: And it's hard, like cornerback.
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: That's why I just totally get. But it's from the caller.
- 1:33:06Speaker 8: And I remember Flacco doing these two, Like I remember
- 1:33:09Speaker 8: Flacco driving me crazy.
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: That's different, like like when you're throwing like some of
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: those just like yeah, like you're throwing like your goal
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: on a play is to get a penalty. Yeah, that
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: I'm with the caller.
- 1:33:20Speaker 11: That's sort of where I'm getting at too. Is like
- 1:33:22Speaker 11: it's it's almost like an art on their side where
- 1:33:25Speaker 11: I'm gonna this is covered, but I'm gonna slightly underthrow
- 1:33:28Speaker 11: this and the receiver is gonna react a certain way
- 1:33:31Speaker 11: and we're just gonna we're just gonna drop.
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: But if the defender does look back in time, now
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: he's in the better position to make the pay.
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying. If you if you play the
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: ball right, you're looking when the ball is underthrown and
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: you can go and make a play on it now.
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: And I understand Evan what Evan's talking about. And Bill
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: has also talked to us about this. Fans used to
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: really get on the Patriots defensive backs for never looking back,
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: and Bill used to explain, they're not taught always to
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: look back. It depends on the situation, depends on the route,
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: it depends on phase. Yeah, you know, it depends on
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: your positioning and whatnot. But you're not always taught to
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: look back.
- 1:34:13Speaker 11: Because that's my point is like the technique is not
- 1:34:17Speaker 11: taught to look back for the football and like this
- 1:34:19Speaker 11: is I think something that the league often misses out
- 1:34:22Speaker 11: on is like these guys actually played football or are
- 1:34:25Speaker 11: they just making up rules as we go here, because
- 1:34:28Speaker 11: like they're they're they're calling DPIs like this that go
- 1:34:33Speaker 11: strictly against the way that the play is coached.
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: For me, it's all about a case by case. If
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: I could watch ten plays that Tim could show me,
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: and I'll bet you I would agree with him on
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: at least five of them. Like, no, I wouldn't have
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: called that passing flirites either, but not just the whole
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: back shoulder thing when the receiver, Like no, you can't
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: just be a traffic code and be in the way.
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: Like if the guy's making a player on the ball
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: and you're not, that's a penalty, yep, But like it's
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: the you know it when you see it, like when
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: you scram one around. Sometimes the receivers they look like
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: they're like fish out of water and they're like just
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: the hands of flailing and the defensive back is just
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: there and they're almost like grabbing the defensive back and
- 1:35:13Speaker 5: making it look like the guy's stopping them. Those are
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: the cheesy calls.
- 1:35:16Speaker 11: It actually doesn't bother me all that much, and we
- 1:35:18Speaker 11: just really, yeah, I hate.
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: The whole like it should be fifteen yards, Like no,
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: it shouldn't be. Like I watched these college and they
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: told these bombs and guys to have no idea where
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: they are. The defensive backs have no idea, and they
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: take these forty fifty yard plays away just by running
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: into a guy and it's a fifteen yard penalty. Right.
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: I don't like that.
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: I know I think it should be a spot foul.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: But right, but a lot of people don't know, I know,
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: not with you with minority.
- 1:35:46Speaker 8: I just want to feel like the play actually had
- 1:35:48Speaker 8: a chance like it, like those are the ones that
- 1:35:49Speaker 8: get you where I'm like, there wasn't even a chance
- 1:35:51Speaker 8: on that one like that.
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: You know, you know what I'm talking about.
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: This is what I'm saying that in the case my case,
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: I'll bet you at least half of the passing the
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: Fantasies and Patriots games this year, I've disagreed with both
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: both sides both ways.
- 1:36:02Speaker 11: I feel like holding an illegal contact has sort of
- 1:36:05Speaker 11: worked as like a buffer so that not everything's a
- 1:36:08Speaker 11: spot foul, because there's there definitely are different you know,
- 1:36:12Speaker 11: degrees of like how egregious the foul is, and so
- 1:36:16Speaker 11: to call everything a spot foul is probably going a
- 1:36:19Speaker 11: little too far.
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: Let's get back to the phones, Seawn's and Vancouver Ay, Sean, Sean.
- 1:36:25Speaker 11: Hey, everyone else.
- 1:36:27Speaker 19: I know I was a little pessimistic in the pregame show.
- 1:36:31Speaker 15: Didn't really think the.
- 1:36:33Speaker 19: Patriots We're going to win but I am really fron
- 1:36:37Speaker 19: that they lost and upset, but I want to bring
- 1:36:40Speaker 19: some civil lining. I want to say that there are
- 1:36:43Speaker 19: things I'm going to be looking for now. I have
- 1:36:46Speaker 19: the bulk for a future with Austin. Maybe he can
- 1:36:49Speaker 19: turn into a boundary corner. The tight ends look pretty
- 1:36:54Speaker 19: good born and pop. They could be functional receivers if
- 1:37:00Speaker 19: we get a number one. So that's what I'm watching
- 1:37:03Speaker 19: for the next four games. We want to see the
- 1:37:06Speaker 19: progress so we can make and see if it's more
- 1:37:08Speaker 19: than just Drake and Gonzalez moving forward.
- 1:37:14Speaker 15: So deb you gotta leave you with that, all right?
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: Thanks? Vin. What are you guys looking for in the
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: next four games. What's the thing that you're looking to
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: most surprise.
- 1:37:24Speaker 8: I'd like to see a surprise, like some something I'm
- 1:37:26Speaker 8: not expecting, because a surprise win.
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: Yeah, it could be that. Like I mean, I don't
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: think it's crazy.
- 1:37:31Speaker 8: I don't expect they'll beat the Chargers, but Chargers here
- 1:37:35Speaker 8: right after Christmas, I mean, they'll be in the hunt.
- 1:37:37Speaker 8: I just think there's opportunities for them to make some
- 1:37:40Speaker 8: noise or at least to have a good impression going
- 1:37:42Speaker 8: into the off season.
- 1:37:42Speaker 6: But have a player have a good game.
- 1:37:44Speaker 8: You know, I don't think anything they're gonna do over
- 1:37:46Speaker 8: the last four games is going to change how you
- 1:37:48Speaker 8: feel about the off season and the positions and all that.
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: But you can at least say, all right, this guy coming.
- 1:37:53Speaker 10: Into camp, you had a good, good, good end of
- 1:37:55Speaker 10: the season.
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: So if they could pull a ninety three and like
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: rattle off, you know, let's say three win. You know,
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: I'm not gonna say all four. Let's say they could
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: win three, that I think would be the surprise. Like
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: one game, I don't care, But if you can win
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: three or four, that's a building block. That's a springboard
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: into the off season. It certainly wasn't ninety three. Yeah,
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: And I know the callers have mentioned like Detroit in
- 1:38:20Speaker 5: that first year they were like, oh, I think they
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: will zero to ten or something like that, and they
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: finished three, three and one down the stretch, Like that's
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: a springboard for you. Then the next year they went
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: nine to eight, and last year they were in the
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: NFC Championship.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: Is there any merit in trying trying to get Poke involved, Well,
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: your second round pick with four games, Well, that kind.
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: Of stuff is more of what I'm what I would
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: be interested in the last four games, can you establish
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: that Leydon Robinson as you left tackle right? I would
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: disagree a little bit with Evan. I would put Cole
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: Strange at center to see if he can play. You
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: have four games. Is there any way Cayden Wallace can
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: get healthy and back on the field and put him
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: at right tackle. Four games is a decent sample if
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: those guys can play, because now instead of needing four
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: offensive linemen next year, I might only need two. Right, Well,
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: maybe I need maybe I still need whatever. Maybe I
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: found like my quality backups. Maybe I found a swing tackle.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: Maybe I found a you know, versatile guard who can
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: play on both sides.
- 1:39:21Speaker 18: I don't.
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: I don't know Jalen Polk and Javon Baker, and they
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: already have young receivers with Douglas in booty, you know,
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: can they show any flashes and the and the good
- 1:39:32Speaker 5: news I don't have a lot of faith in these things,
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: by the way, but that's what I'd be hoping.
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: The good news is that all these remaining games, their
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: opponent will be playing for something, you know, because even
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: the Bills, they've got the head on head advantage over
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: Kansas City. See, all they need is Kansas City to.
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: Lose once Arizona. Yeah, Arizona has got a game against
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: Seattle this week that they kind of have to win.
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: If they don't, okay, they they might, they might go.
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean the Chargers are going to be
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: in the playoff pitcher. And yeah, the Bills. I think
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: you're right. I think the Bills will have a chance
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: to get the number one seed. Yeah, and even if
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: they don't, they want to fight for the number two seed.
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:40:07Speaker 11: I'm less caught up on the personnel because they think
- 1:40:09Speaker 11: it's going to take a lot. I do too, for
- 1:40:11Speaker 11: me to be convinced in four games that like Jalen
- 1:40:14Speaker 11: polk Is is a player for this team.
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but if he if he has four good games,
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: it was against four good opponents.
- 1:40:21Speaker 11: To be really good.
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: But what if just out of you know, he's got
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: I think he's got twelve catches. What if he had
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: twelve in the last four games?
- 1:40:29Speaker 11: I mean, and is he a player in the room, like, like,
- 1:40:32Speaker 11: does he belong on the roster? Like I guess that's.
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: What he's gonna be on the roster second round?
- 1:40:36Speaker 11: Right, So, Like, I guess I could be convinced of
- 1:40:38Speaker 11: that in that respect, but like that I am now
- 1:40:41Speaker 11: going to count on him.
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: That he completes the bomb to Javon Baker that Baker
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: dropped in the preseason.
- 1:40:46Speaker 11: That doesn't do it for me.
- 1:40:48Speaker 6: Receiver off the table, we got it, we.
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: Got I'm trying.
- 1:40:51Speaker 11: Personnel wise, there's not much I don't I don't think
- 1:40:53Speaker 11: that it's gonna convince me that, oh, well, we have
- 1:40:57Speaker 11: Jalen Polk, so like forget about T Higgins, Like we
- 1:40:59Speaker 11: don't need that guy anymore. Say that, but like okay,
- 1:41:03Speaker 11: like even Andy Hart, but not even just just not
- 1:41:06Speaker 11: even just T Higgins, Like I I don't think I'm
- 1:41:10Speaker 11: convinced that Jalen Polk can play in this league, So
- 1:41:12Speaker 11: like I need to like see way more.
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: Like that's what I'm saying. What if he gets what
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: if he had like four catches in each of the.
- 1:41:19Speaker 11: My my bigger, my bigger the league, My bigger point
- 1:41:25Speaker 11: is that to me, it's more about the coaching on
- 1:41:29Speaker 11: offense and defense and like where we're headed on those
- 1:41:32Speaker 11: sides of the ball from a coordinator perspective, like if
- 1:41:35Speaker 11: this continues offensively, what we saw Sunday isn't just about
- 1:41:38Speaker 11: the Colts. It's how they're going to play offense moving forward,
- 1:41:42Speaker 11: then I feel pretty good about Alex van Pelt staying on.
- 1:41:46Speaker 11: If they don't button up some of these details on
- 1:41:48Speaker 11: defense and they don't fix some of these things that
- 1:41:49Speaker 11: are going wrong for them defensively, they might have to
- 1:41:52Speaker 11: ask some tough questions about DeMarcus Covington in the offseason
- 1:41:55Speaker 11: and where they're headed on that side of the football.
- 1:41:58Speaker 11: How you chess match against good teams tells you a
- 1:42:02Speaker 11: whole lot about your coordinators moving forward.
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: And I would really like to see, I mean, captain obvious,
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: I'd really like to see Drake Bay play really well
- 1:42:10Speaker 5: in bad weather yea, because it more than likely he's
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: gonna have three bad weather games, yeah, every year.
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: At least like the.
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: Two Buffaloes in the Chargers or you know, that's two
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: that are here, one in Buffalo. Chances are all three
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: of those are going to be bad weather.
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: Just I'm just piggyback on Evan.
- 1:42:27Speaker 8: I'm just so interested to see what they come out
- 1:42:28Speaker 8: with defensively against Buffalo, because we've seen that Buffalo team
- 1:42:31Speaker 8: roll this defense when it was you know, okay with
- 1:42:34Speaker 8: Bill running it, and now it's their worst defense they've
- 1:42:37Speaker 8: had and how are they going to respond? Do they
- 1:42:39Speaker 8: have anything in the in the like I think that's
- 1:42:41Speaker 8: a great point.
- 1:42:41Speaker 11: Can we cover receivers in the red zone? Like can
- 1:42:43Speaker 11: we just like, let we don't have to fix everything
- 1:42:46Speaker 11: right like, And this is I think like the bigger
- 1:42:48Speaker 11: gripe that I have with Mayo two is it's like,
- 1:42:51Speaker 11: you know, Bill would always go in and with like
- 1:42:53Speaker 11: three things yeap that we need to button up. It
- 1:42:56Speaker 11: wasn't let's try to fix the entire defense in one week.
- 1:43:00Speaker 11: It's like, let's not, you know, have coverage bus in
- 1:43:03Speaker 11: the red zone like we did in Miami. Let's get
- 1:43:05Speaker 11: that buttoned up. First drive of the game against the Colts,
- 1:43:08Speaker 11: two wide open receivers on a coverage bus for an
- 1:43:11Speaker 11: easy touchdown. So like, you didn't fix it. You didn't
- 1:43:14Speaker 11: fix the problem. So like at some point in time
- 1:43:16Speaker 11: they have to show some signs of improvement.
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: Riley's an Arizona. What's up? Riley? We'll see you next week.
- 1:43:23Speaker 15: Hey, what's going on? Gentlemen?
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: Hey?
- 1:43:26Speaker 15: Hey, just a couple of quick thoughts here, because I
- 1:43:30Speaker 15: was obviously on Mayo's defense of things what I called
- 1:43:34Speaker 15: a few weeks ago saying that everybody needs to kind of,
- 1:43:37Speaker 15: you know, bring back the reins and real a man
- 1:43:41Speaker 15: on the criticism on Mayo. But it's some of the
- 1:43:46Speaker 15: things that were just witnessing. It just really makes me
- 1:43:50Speaker 15: scratch my head and question what the hell are we doing?
- 1:43:56Speaker 15: And we're obviously at the home spreads of the season
- 1:43:59Speaker 15: here where you would like to see a smooth operation
- 1:44:03Speaker 15: and you would like to see things buttoned up, but
- 1:44:07Speaker 15: there's just so many glaring issues from Van Pelt. And
- 1:44:13Speaker 15: don't get me wrong, I think Van Telt has you know,
- 1:44:17Speaker 15: had some really good play calls the last few games,
- 1:44:21Speaker 15: especially in this game versus the Colts and that opening
- 1:44:24Speaker 15: drive versus Miami, and same with the Rams. But it's
- 1:44:28Speaker 15: kind of like what Evan alludes to, what kind of
- 1:44:33Speaker 15: identity are we are? We Are we a run first team?
- 1:44:37Speaker 15: Are we a pass first team? And at this point
- 1:44:40Speaker 15: the season, I would think that they would have some
- 1:44:43Speaker 15: sort of identity, but we just see the same issues
- 1:44:46Speaker 15: pomping up where ven Pel has a great first drive,
- 1:44:50Speaker 15: you know, like I said, in this game, the Dolphins game,
- 1:44:53Speaker 15: the Rams game, but then here we are running it
- 1:44:58Speaker 15: on a first in ten and we run it, you know,
- 1:45:02Speaker 15: two straight times, and then may take that attack on
- 1:45:06Speaker 15: the third down when we're trying to score before half,
- 1:45:10Speaker 15: and he did essentially the same thing just a few
- 1:45:13Speaker 15: weeks ago against the Titans, where he prioritized the resetting
- 1:45:18Speaker 15: of the downs more so than going down the field
- 1:45:21Speaker 15: and scoring and putting points on the board. So that's
- 1:45:26Speaker 15: just something that I think we definitely need to get
- 1:45:29Speaker 15: figured out. But my main concern is more so on
- 1:45:32Speaker 15: the defense side of the ball, because I think ben
- 1:45:35Speaker 15: Felt will clean up those things and kind of get
- 1:45:39Speaker 15: a better feel rolling in the next season. But I
- 1:45:41Speaker 15: definitely agree with you guys, I think there definitely is
- 1:45:44Speaker 15: some questions surrounding Covington and where we go from there,
- 1:45:50Speaker 15: because you just see the same mistakes week in and
- 1:45:54Speaker 15: week out where there's just giant coverage busts and we
- 1:45:57Speaker 15: have guys wide open waltzing into the end zone And.
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: To me, oh, sorry, Riley fast Finger, but I get it.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: Is it the defensive coordinators job to be teaching the
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: fundamentals and getting those mistakes out or is that the
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: position coaches job or what are we referring to as
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: the fundamentals mistakes like you know, not filling you know,
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: run fits and things like that.
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: I think so, like you want to say like tackling
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: or like everyone was talking about techniques on pass defense
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: with a corner, right, that's probably more of a position coach. Yeah,
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: but the your game plan to stop the run is
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: your run fits. Yeah, and you're discipline, especially gap integrity, and.
- 1:46:45Speaker 11: That involves all eleven guys, right, So you're really talking
- 1:46:48Speaker 11: about the holistic style of the defense and how you
- 1:46:51Speaker 11: want to go about doing things. I you know, on
- 1:46:54Speaker 11: the play calling side of things, like, I think one
- 1:46:56Speaker 11: of the most overrated things coming out of games is
- 1:47:00Speaker 11: second guessing play calling. Obviously, when the play call doesn't work,
- 1:47:04Speaker 11: we're all going to sit here and say, horrible play call, right.
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: Not me. I thought it was a horrible play call
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: and a touchdown run by Antonio.
- 1:47:12Speaker 11: Yeah, Like you know, like those types of things just
- 1:47:15Speaker 11: kind of irk me because it's always a results based thing, like, oh, yeah,
- 1:47:19Speaker 11: this is a great play call because it went for
- 1:47:21Speaker 11: a fifty yard touchdown. Well he took a sack. Horrible
- 1:47:23Speaker 11: play call. Like to me, the best play callers are
- 1:47:27Speaker 11: call or play designers that have plays that have answers
- 1:47:31Speaker 11: to the test no matter what the defense is in, right,
- 1:47:34Speaker 11: Like whether if it's manner zone, it's single high, it's
- 1:47:38Speaker 11: too high. However, they're fitting the run if there's an
- 1:47:41Speaker 11: extra hat in the box, like whatever. Good play callers
- 1:47:44Speaker 11: and good offensive coordinators and offensive minds they call plays
- 1:47:48Speaker 11: that have built in answers for whatever they're gonna get
- 1:47:53Speaker 11: thrown at.
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: So sequence so acting plays, setting plays up.
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: So it's second and eight and you know Van Pelt
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: gets criticized for running the ball again, Yeah, is there
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: any chance on second and eight? Drake May sees what
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: the defense is offering and calls out of a pass
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: into a run.
- 1:48:10Speaker 11: So they have cans right like, so depending on what
- 1:48:13Speaker 11: the defense is in, they'll can of call like if
- 1:48:15Speaker 11: the defense is in single high and they have they
- 1:48:17Speaker 11: might have a run and like a play action pass called,
- 1:48:20Speaker 11: and so that if they start in the run, they
- 1:48:23Speaker 11: could go can can and then they can run the
- 1:48:25Speaker 11: action pass because they have a look that they like
- 1:48:27Speaker 11: the play action pass into. So they do some of
- 1:48:29Speaker 11: that type of stuff. But in terms of like Tom
- 1:48:32Speaker 11: Brady level PhD, like we're gonna re you know, adjust
- 1:48:35Speaker 11: the entire chessboard. I don't think we're at that point
- 1:48:38Speaker 11: yet with a rookie quarterback, but to me, it's just like.
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: So I guess what I'm getting to is when you
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: grind the all twenty two I try, and you're looking
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: at that second and A and you look at what
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: the defense is in. Is the run call the right call?
- 1:48:54Speaker 11: Yeah? Like you know, so the two plays that people
- 1:48:56Speaker 11: are keep on bringing up before half are actually are
- 1:48:58Speaker 11: actually are pos. So they have routes connected to the run.
- 1:49:03Speaker 11: And Drake is reading a guy in the box and
- 1:49:06Speaker 11: determining whether he's gonna hand it off or he's gonna
- 1:49:08Speaker 11: throw the football. So they actually had sort of run
- 1:49:11Speaker 11: pass options on both of those plays, and so they
- 1:49:15Speaker 11: both converted to runs and they didn't block it well
- 1:49:18Speaker 11: and they got stuffed, you know, and so like, yeah,
- 1:49:22Speaker 11: you could argue that maybe they shouldn't be running the
- 1:49:24Speaker 11: ball at all, and like I get that argument, But
- 1:49:27Speaker 11: to me, it's just like it's execution. You know, they
- 1:49:30Speaker 11: as much as I get on them, you know, for
- 1:49:32Speaker 11: a couple of the red zone drop back calls that
- 1:49:34Speaker 11: he had, like they ran mesh in that one red
- 1:49:38Speaker 11: zone play that Drake may get sacked on and Kendrick
- 1:49:40Speaker 11: Bourne runs the wrong.
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: Route, is standing next to each other.
- 1:49:43Speaker 11: Yeah, Like he runs the wrong route, Like, so, is
- 1:49:45Speaker 11: that the coordinator's fault that the play didn't work because.
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: They actually stopped in the same place they Dideah, they did.
- 1:49:52Speaker 11: And when I say coordinator's fault, yes, it's the coordinator's
- 1:49:55Speaker 11: fault that the team isn't buttoned up. I'm more mean, like,
- 1:49:58Speaker 11: is the play call at fault for that half?
- 1:50:00Speaker 5: I would just say I thought Sunday, you know the
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: call at Riley was just saying, like another game where
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: a you know, the opening script was good, It wasn't
- 1:50:08Speaker 5: just the whole game was good. They of offense and
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: they moved the ball very well in the first half.
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: And in the second half. It wasn't just the opening script. Uh, Miami.
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: They didn't move the ball at all in the game.
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: They had one drive, the second drive of the game
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: was the only halfway decent drive, and that was it.
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: They got shut out for three quarters. This game was
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: light years different than the last game. Yeah, And I
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: think that part of that was I was so frustrating.
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: Part of that was game plan. In play calling. I
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: thought they did a good job of it. I like
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: Evan said, no one's ever going to agree with every
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: play call. I thought the second and eight at the
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: end and the end of the half. Was a bad call.
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: Even if it's an RPO, I don't like it. I'd
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: rather have Drake throwing the ball. And I hated the
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: second and eight run call after the Gonzales pick. You know,
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: you want to run it on first down. Fine, I
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: would have taken a shot on first down, but you
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: want to run it fine, second and eight. We got
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: to get points.
- 1:51:04Speaker 7: Yeah, we got to.
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: End this game.
- 1:51:06Speaker 11: Yeah, the second, the second and long runs have to
- 1:51:08Speaker 11: go like that's a big math. No, no too, like
- 1:51:11Speaker 11: the analytics nerds, you run it on second and second.
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: Touchdown run for Antonio Gibson. I hated the call. Yeah,
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: I hated it.
- 1:51:17Speaker 11: Consistent though those are a little different inside the red
- 1:51:20Speaker 11: zone for the nerds, like between the twenty second and
- 1:51:23Speaker 11: long runs like the nerds was I might as well
- 1:51:25Speaker 11: just punted.
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: That was a really good run by Gibson. There wasn't
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: a touchdown like that wasn't blocked for a touchdown.
- 1:51:32Speaker 11: Quite According to the next Gen that had a two
- 1:51:34Speaker 11: percent chance of being a touchdown.
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: Thank you. Yeah, so that was a good run.
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: Sean's in Toronto. Hey Sean, Hey, guys.
- 1:51:44Speaker 20: I just wanted to venge a little bit about the
- 1:51:46Speaker 20: NFL replay system and get your thoughts about.
- 1:51:49Speaker 15: How they can make it a little bit more equal here.
- 1:51:53Speaker 20: I just noticed how it affects the Patriots is that
- 1:51:55Speaker 20: had they become a less watchful product and a less
- 1:51:58Speaker 20: of a draw, you get like the worst CBS crew
- 1:52:00Speaker 20: or the bottom of the barrel box crew who loads
- 1:52:03Speaker 20: their stadium up with five camera angles and when it's
- 1:52:06Speaker 20: time to go to a replay, you're kind of stuck
- 1:52:08Speaker 20: with what they got. Meanwhile, you got the NBC crew
- 1:52:11Speaker 20: or the primetime games that could really zoom in and
- 1:52:14Speaker 20: get the perfect angle on something. I don't know if
- 1:52:17Speaker 20: it's the NFL being keep, if it's the broadcast being keep,
- 1:52:20Speaker 20: where if a certain stadium can't put cameras in certain places.
- 1:52:24Speaker 20: But I'm curious to hear your thought about if there's
- 1:52:26Speaker 20: any way the NFL can make their replay system a
- 1:52:29Speaker 20: little bit more uniform and a little bit more equal
- 1:52:31Speaker 20: to each game that's going on across the league.
- 1:52:34Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: No, it's a good question, Sean now, and I think
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: it's a great point, Sean. It's one I've railed against
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: for years. Every game should be treated exactly this well.
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: I think. I know there's a minimum amount of cameras
- 1:52:44Speaker 3: broadcast needs. There is, and I know on the big
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: primetime games there are extra cameras. What I don't know
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: is are those extra cameras cameras that would come into
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: play on a replay. I'm not sure about that because.
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: You see it on side games all the time, the
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: NBC it there's different angles, there's different if the close
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: that they can. Yeah, I think Sean's point is accurate.
- 1:53:09Speaker 5: Whatever the most amount of technology that one game gets, they.
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: Should all be All games should get it right.
- 1:53:15Speaker 5: You don't get the coverage like sean'son you know, I
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: understand that we get it, you know, like the third
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: or fourth team. Yeah, for like Fox or CBS, that's fine,
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: but they all should be covered the same in terms
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: of the camera angles. Now, I don't think he's talking
- 1:53:30Speaker 5: about this game in particular. I think he's talking about
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: the NFL at large.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: YEP. Now, the other thing he alluded to is that
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: even the crews vary, like every cameraman is not created equal.
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: Some cameramen are better and.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: Right, but I think for the most part, you get
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: all the shots that you need. You just don't have
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: as many angles because some games don't have as many.
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: I know, I know, like we saw the play on Sunday, Like,
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: if you want, if they could have challenged that call
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: if they wanted to, we saw it right away.
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: We only saw that. I only saw that one angle
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: from behind the play or in front of the.
- 1:54:05Speaker 5: Play, Right, what's the only angle you need?
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: Well, I don't know. There's probably other angles of that play.
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: No, I understand that, but they showed it immediately. As
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: my point, if you wanted to challenge it, they could
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: have challenged it. I think sort of, we didn't get
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: a good look at it. It's kind of a cop out.
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: I think that you're right. I think they would have
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: not overturned that call. I think his hand were underneath
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: the ball. He pinned it against his chest, and yes,
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: the ball hit the grounds, but it didn't help him
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: catch the ball.
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I would have liked to see the other angle
- 1:54:34Speaker 3: from like maybe the visit from the visitor sideline coming
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: from the other way. I didn't see that, but.
- 1:54:41Speaker 5: I but I agree with Sean's point. I don't understand
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: how a league can have replay be involved, but yet
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: not every not every game is equipped with the same
- 1:54:51Speaker 5: amount of cameras depending on the caliber of game you
- 1:54:54Speaker 5: should have. You know, Carolina and Jacksonville should get everything
- 1:54:57Speaker 5: that you know Detroit and Philadelphia yet, Yeah, like it's
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: not fair to have it be different.
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: I'd love to ask somebody from the league the stance
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: on that.
- 1:55:07Speaker 5: And my guess is it's an NFL cheap like he
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: Sean said that, Like, I don't know if the NFL
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: is being cheap with a broadcast. Yeah, my guess is
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: the broadcast bill used to say, you know, maybe we'll
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: have a bake sale for the league.
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: Yep, let's see. Well, a couple more emails before we
- 1:55:23Speaker 3: have to wrap up here.
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: Mike and have an went to the locker room, by
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: the way.
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: Yeah, they just want to take off Christopher from where.
- 1:55:32Speaker 3: The only coach I have positive feelings about is Van Pelt.
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: I think he, like May, has improved over the course
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: of the season. Also, he should be given some credit
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: in May's development. I don't know what Gerad does well
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: and I haven't seen any improvement. He talks himself into
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: trouble with the media almost weekly and keeps making mistakes
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: that are very similar. Please p U crew inform me
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: where I'm wrong. Is he a defensive X and O genius.
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: How's the culture at three and nine? Should they be
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: playing hard for him? They're professional millionaires. Wolf has a
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: lot to prove. Mostly unimpressed. The jude On trade is
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: probably his best move. I this offseason, with all the
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: money and picks they have, there should be massive talent improvement.
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: I really don't know about those running the show. I
- 1:56:15Speaker 3: fear the kids convince Craft to get rid of the
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: mean old man, and now it's Lord of the Flies. Yeah,
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think it's that bad. Really, no, I.
- 1:56:24Speaker 5: Don't either, And I just I think, you know, I'm
- 1:56:27Speaker 5: thinking back to Emery's call from about a half hour ago,
- 1:56:30Speaker 5: Emory in Virginia, and I think that he's right. Like
- 1:56:33Speaker 5: I look at it and say, yeah, all the things
- 1:56:36Speaker 5: that people are criticizing are probably valid. But let's give
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: it a little time for Elliott Wolf and for Girodmeo
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: to sort of see their vision through and see if
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: they can get that. I don't think it was a
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: great first year, but let's see if they can get
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: some players in here that they want to work with
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: and if they improve.
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: I'm afraid of what Evan was talking about about this draft,
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: and that's going to be the excuse. Well, it wasn't
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: a very.
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: Well this draft, but we have to have a minimum.
- 1:57:05Speaker 3: Of three players from that draft be contributors in twenty
- 1:57:08Speaker 3: twenty five.
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: But can they contribute or are they good?
- 1:57:11Speaker 3: The good contributors good. I'm not saying they're gonna like
- 1:57:15Speaker 3: good need to be good. I believe it when they
- 1:57:17Speaker 3: say there's not enough Blue Chippers. I get that, but
- 1:57:20Speaker 3: look at all the players in the league that are
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: third fourth round players.
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: You need to find contribute and you need to use
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: money in free agency. You need to like both both that.
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: I heard a call yesterday and I don't know if
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: it was accurate, a call to one of my shows.
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: Actually my show claim that Washington got five starters in
- 1:57:40Speaker 5: the draft and five players in free agency in the draft. Now,
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: I don't think Washington's a great team, but.
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: They're count to earth a little bit. But put forty two.
- 1:57:51Speaker 5: On the board last week, but they want I think
- 1:57:55Speaker 5: they're eight and five. They're well ahead of schedule in
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: terms of competing for the playoffs. They're in a very
- 1:58:00Speaker 5: similar spot that you are. They had the second overall pick, YEP,
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: and they drafted a rookie quarterback who hit.
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: It's a good comp.
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: It's a good comp. I heard they had you hear
- 1:58:10Speaker 5: Did you hear this conversation? Yeah, yesterday I thought it
- 1:58:12Speaker 5: was you know, it was an interesting comp. Now. I
- 1:58:15Speaker 5: don't know how good all those players are. I don't
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: know who the free agents they're talking about are. But
- 1:58:22Speaker 5: you can do it. You can add to your team. Now,
- 1:58:25Speaker 5: is it the typical free agent bump that you get
- 1:58:28Speaker 5: a bump in year one and it's not really good
- 1:58:30Speaker 5: for long term sustain success.
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 1:58:33Speaker 5: We'll see.
- 1:58:34Speaker 3: The Patriots can turn this around quickly.
- 1:58:36Speaker 5: I think there's no reason why they can't be a
- 1:58:38Speaker 5: competitive team next year.
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: That's right.
- 1:58:40Speaker 5: But it's not going to be easy.
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: No, they have to make the right moves.
- 1:58:45Speaker 5: You have the hardest piece to find. You have a
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: talented quarterback. I don't know how good he is. I
- 1:58:51Speaker 5: do know how talented he is. I don't know how
- 1:58:54Speaker 5: good of a quarterback he is yet, But you have
- 1:58:57Speaker 5: the hardest piece to find. He can do things that
- 1:59:00Speaker 5: your last guy couldn't. Now it's up to you to
- 1:59:03Speaker 5: get some guys around him that can make place. All right,
- 1:59:05Speaker 5: protect them.
- 1:59:06Speaker 3: That's going to be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
