- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, presented by PrizePix.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Bomani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. It's that time of week where we have
- 0:23Speaker 1: a guest join us. Check him out on Rangertailgate.com. Check
- 0:28Speaker 1: him out on the Press Box. Go ahead and do
- 0:33Speaker 1: the last part, man.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I'm just going to wait until you say the name,
- 0:36Speaker 2: and then I'm going to throw it up.
- 0:37Speaker 1: How long you going to keep calling false start, Joel Addison?
- 0:42Speaker 2: I just said your name.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I should have just kept talking to see how long
- 0:46Speaker 1: you would have kept going.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I was just trying to get it started.
- 0:51Speaker 1: When Joel do that, what he really saying is, who
- 0:54Speaker 1: trying to get on the love boat? You remember Dante Culpepper? Oh, man,
- 1:01Speaker 1: stop it. Who got seats on the boat?
- 1:05Speaker 2: I didn't even think about it. You know, for some reason,
- 1:08Speaker 2: I've associated more with Fred Smoot because the craziest stories
- 1:12Speaker 2: from that boat seem to have been affiliated with Fred Smoot.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I feel like just about I have forgotten all the
- 1:17Speaker 1: particular details about the love boat. We'll get to that, though.
- 1:21Speaker 1: We got Joel on because while he hates many things,
- 1:24Speaker 1: he loves college football, and they got a good college
- 1:26Speaker 1: football show, so I wanted to talk some college football
- 1:29Speaker 1: with my good friend, Joel. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:31Speaker 1: He was just saying that he dropped his little man
- 1:34Speaker 1: off at pre-K, and he met one of his fans.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I did. I did. So yeah, I dropped Dez. I'll
- 1:39Speaker 2: tell you, it was his first day of pre-K. And
- 1:42Speaker 2: shout out Danny. He came through the office and he's like,
- 1:46Speaker 2: big fan. And I'm just, I'm here with my kid.
- 1:49Speaker 2: It totally threw me off. I'm like, of what? He's like,
- 1:53Speaker 2: You're not, he said, you're not as much of a
- 1:56Speaker 2: hater as Bomani says you are.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Oh, boy, but I can't wait for him to find
- 2:00Speaker 1: out in real life. I can't wait.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Actually, I'm lying. He said, you're a perfect hater. He said,
- 2:05Speaker 2: you're a perfect hater. I was going to see how
- 2:07Speaker 2: excited you were. I'm just saying.
- 2:09Speaker 1: He goes, don't you worry. He's going to get to
- 2:10Speaker 1: see you every day. He's going to get you in
- 2:12Speaker 1: the border when you're grumpy.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. No, no, no. I'm about to be, I'm
- 2:17Speaker 2: fired up. I'm ready to be part of the PTA now.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Okay, okay. I see. You got your squad there. It's
- 2:22Speaker 1: your crew. You somebody up there. I am, man. You
- 2:25Speaker 1: know what I'm saying?
- 2:26Speaker 2: Hey, look, man. Knowing somebody in the front office of
- 2:28Speaker 2: the school can't hurt.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That's real talk. They ain't going to leave you sitting
- 2:32Speaker 1: in the lobby.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. No, sir.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Joel going to see the kids fighting in the cafeteria.
- 2:37Speaker 1: They going to come talk to him immediately, right? That's
- 2:40Speaker 1: what it is. Joel, somebody in there.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I ain't going to have to break it up myself.
- 2:45Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? That's what I'm saying.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Looking like Buddy on the Street of the Wire and
- 2:51Speaker 3: Hashtag Him when they was fighting over basketball. That was
- 2:55Speaker 3: Clarence Clements, if I'm not mistaken, on the E Street Band.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Oh, but wait, also, was it Jonathan Majors who showed
- 3:02Speaker 2: up somewhere, was doing the.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Don't get me started talking about that, dude.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I don't even look back. College football. I feel like
- 3:12Speaker 1: we like to talk about what has happened because the
- 3:14Speaker 1: numbers have been on that. But we got Georgia, Alabama
- 3:16Speaker 1: this week, man. And it's interesting because Georgia and Alabama
- 3:18Speaker 1: historically have not played that much. Right. They played far
- 3:22Speaker 1: fewer games than people realize. And I looked it up
- 3:25Speaker 1: and apparently it was because of the Saturday Evening Post scandal.
- 3:29Speaker 2: What?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Remember in the Saturday Evening Post where they wrote the
- 3:32Speaker 1: article that accused Bear Bryant and the coach, and I
- 3:34Speaker 1: think it was Georgia Tech, of fixing games?
- 3:37Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and Bryant won the lawsuit and everything else. But
- 3:41Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, you would think Georgia and Alabama
- 3:44Speaker 1: being border schools would play a lot more than they
- 3:47Speaker 1: have over the years. And even in recent times, we
- 3:50Speaker 1: see them play in the championship games. But it is
- 3:52Speaker 1: not really a rivalry.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Auburn is more Georgia's rival from Alabama.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Well, that is a rivalry.
- 4:02Speaker 2: That is a rivalry.
- 4:03Speaker 1: That's a their play every year. The whole reason they
- 4:05Speaker 1: ran the SEC schedule like they did with the cross-division
- 4:09Speaker 1: games was to protect Alabama, Tennessee, and to protect Georgia-Auburn
- 4:13Speaker 1: because it's that much of a game. But this is
- 4:16Speaker 1: a rivalry that is largely based on the fact that
- 4:18Speaker 1: they've been beasts.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Right. Really, at this point, it's going on a decade now.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I mean, this is really a new rivalry that has
- 4:25Speaker 2: formed over the last decade. Once Kirby Smart got Georgia rolling.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's the part of it also, is the
- 4:32Speaker 1: saving Kirby element of it. And it becomes intriguing because
- 4:35Speaker 1: as dominant as Georgia has been, it's Alabama they can't
- 4:38Speaker 1: really do nothing with.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I mean, man, even last year when... Alabama was not...
- 4:45Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think anybody thought they were that
- 4:47Speaker 2: good last year, right? And they still beat Georgia in
- 4:51Speaker 2: the regular season. Now, of course, the SEC championship game,
- 4:54Speaker 2: things had sort of taken shape by then. And by
- 4:56Speaker 2: the end of the year, Bama fans were upset at him.
- 4:59Speaker 2: But that Georgia win gave Kalen DeBoer a lot more
- 5:02Speaker 2: rope and a lot more patience during that regular season
- 5:05Speaker 2: where they did not appear to be very good and
- 5:07Speaker 2: had already lost to Florida State, who was horrible last year.
- 5:10Speaker 3: They did.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Which, I mean... That's why Mike Norvell is still there,
- 5:13Speaker 1: or is it just the fact that they ain't got
- 5:14Speaker 1: no money?
- 5:16Speaker 2: They broke.
- 5:16Speaker 1: They just cannot. And by the way, good for everybody involved, right?
- 5:21Speaker 1: You should ride it out.
- 5:23Speaker 2: That's what the buyout.
- 5:24Speaker 1: The buyout is supposed to make you ride it out.
- 5:27Speaker 1: That's the thing that's amazing about it.
- 5:28Speaker 2: It's supposed to make it hard.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It's supposed to be an enforcement. They're like, whatever. How
- 5:31Speaker 1: much money you need? I'll be right back. $ 70 million. Yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: I'll be right back.
- 5:36Speaker 2: It never makes sense. Again, I mean, Penn State is
- 5:38Speaker 2: finding this out as well. Like, you know, just... sometimes
- 5:42Speaker 2: a bad year is just going to have to be
- 5:43Speaker 2: a bad year. Back in the day when we were,
- 5:46Speaker 2: you know, 80s and 90s, the legends, they would have
- 5:49Speaker 2: bad years occasionally. They might go five and six, four
- 5:51Speaker 2: and seven. And they were allowed to have that because
- 5:54Speaker 2: they had built up enough credibility. And I'm just sort
- 5:56Speaker 2: of shocked at the idea that you can have a
- 5:59Speaker 2: really good team for almost 10 years and to have
- 6:03Speaker 2: had a chance to score at the end of the
- 6:05Speaker 2: game in the national semifinal with a chance to go
- 6:07Speaker 2: to the championship game and just get fired next year
- 6:10Speaker 2: because things fell out of control a little bit.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Because they didn't like him.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Now, to be fair to them, though, on the money.
- 6:17Speaker 1: What they were paying him is offset by Virginia Tech.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Like theirs was a little bit– LSU had to pay
- 6:23Speaker 1: Brian Kelly all that money at one time, didn't they?
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they did. He wasn't going to leave.
- 6:28Speaker 2: He was going to cause problems for them. He's like, yo,
- 6:31Speaker 2: give me my money.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Brian, give me my money. He wanted that. Now, Caleb DeBoer, look,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you talk about he got himself a little more rope. Hey, man.
- 6:43Speaker 1: All those all just they just pay their loans at
- 6:46Speaker 1: that job.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Like this. Nobody ever has any role. Look, Bear Bryant. Now, granted,
- 6:51Speaker 1: he died right after. But Bear Bryant quit after that
- 6:54Speaker 1: one bad year. I mean, he was like, hey, they
- 6:57Speaker 1: didn't care.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I mean, they I mean, the people there are not
- 7:00Speaker 2: known for being reasonable about this. But I actually thought
- 7:04Speaker 2: watching them play against Mississippi State was I was like, oh,
- 7:07Speaker 2: this is the best team they've had since maybe the
- 7:11Speaker 2: team that lost in the semifinal to Michigan a few
- 7:14Speaker 2: years ago.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I think it might be better than
- 7:15Speaker 1: that one because I don't think that team was that good.
- 7:18Speaker 1: That was the last saving team, right?
- 7:19Speaker 2: That's right. Was Bryce on that team? I think that
- 7:22Speaker 2: was Bryce.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And Will Anderson's last team. That was, I'm pretty sure
- 7:25Speaker 1: Milrow was the quarterback.
- 7:27Speaker 2: It was Milrow.
- 7:27Speaker 1: That was the year they benched Milrow.
- 7:31Speaker 2: That's right.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Remember, basically, they'll never say this officially, but the way
- 7:35Speaker 1: it progressed seemed pretty obvious. that Saban was like, all right,
- 7:40Speaker 1: I got to get these white folks to calm down.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'm going to put this white dude out here, and
- 7:44Speaker 1: they're going to see why it is that we're sticking
- 7:46Speaker 1: with what they call a running back. Right? That's why
- 7:50Speaker 1: we're going to do that. Now, this is the thing,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and part of why I brought up this game is
- 7:57Speaker 1: I was talking to a good friend of mine who
- 7:59Speaker 1: is a big Alabama fan. And as you might expect,
- 8:03Speaker 1: he is over the moon about Keelan Russell.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And here's what he says to me. He was like,
- 8:10Speaker 1: he's got Bryce's brain with Milrose legs. We've never had
- 8:16Speaker 1: anything like that before, to which I had to explain
- 8:18Speaker 1: to him. Nobody's had anything like that before. McShay is
- 8:23Speaker 1: out here talking about Russell would be a ninety nine grade.
- 8:27Speaker 1: This appears to be the best quarterback that they've had
- 8:29Speaker 1: since Joe Namath.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Man, so I was wondering, so we're already elevating them
- 8:35Speaker 2: over Tua, already, obviously Jalen.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So let me ask you this, about post-Namath Stabler, right,
- 8:42Speaker 1: that run of guys, let's just go into this modern
- 8:44Speaker 1: era of Alabama football.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 8:47Speaker 1: He's definitely the most talented.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Oh, by far.
- 8:50Speaker 1: He's definitely the one that checks the most boxes. Athleticism, size,
- 8:56Speaker 1: arm strength, processing, all of that stuff, right? Tua is,
- 9:00Speaker 1: if everything is exactly what he thought it was going
- 9:02Speaker 1: to be off the line of scrimmage, You got this.
- 9:06Speaker 1: The other guys I don't even think are in the discussion,
- 9:08Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Not at all. Watua was a true five-star, but I
- 9:11Speaker 2: don't know if he was as highly rated a five-star
- 9:13Speaker 2: as Keelan Russell is. No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 9:14Speaker 2: He was not.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Keelan Russell is a whole different... Yeah, they've never... They've
- 9:18Speaker 2: never had anybody this talented because they've never were able
- 9:21Speaker 2: to recruit anybody this good to play in the offense.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on. But to be fair, they haven't
- 9:25Speaker 1: recruited anybody this talented because how many people this talented
- 9:28Speaker 1: have their beards?
- 9:29Speaker 2: I mean, really? I guess. Are you surprised? Because the
- 9:32Speaker 2: thing is, I knew Keelan Russell was talented. And somebody
- 9:35Speaker 2: last year, who was it last year that when... when
- 9:39Speaker 2: they lost to florida state and they were like i
- 9:41Speaker 2: don't know why they don't play the freshman and i
- 9:43Speaker 2: was like really already but they apparently people have known
- 9:47Speaker 2: that this kid was as good as that they just
- 9:50Speaker 2: wanted to let him sit for a year which is
- 9:52Speaker 2: you know that makes a lot of sense to me
- 9:54Speaker 2: if you don't have them for four if.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You feel like you have a guy right yeah i
- 9:58Speaker 1: mean they won a national championship with mac jones and
- 10:00Speaker 1: bryce young was right behind him that's right right that's
- 10:03Speaker 1: right they feel like and just to be clear tua
- 10:05Speaker 1: was rivals number 53 player number.
- 10:08Speaker 2: 53 okay i didn't realize he was that low.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Okay yeah yeah no no no russell Russell came in
- 10:15Speaker 1: there one of them ones.
- 10:17Speaker 2: You know, what's interesting about Russell to me is because
- 10:19Speaker 2: I've always been really skeptical. of the recruits that play
- 10:24Speaker 2: on loaded teams, right? Because I'm like, it's so easy. Like,
- 10:27Speaker 2: you've got all the talent. Nobody is ever touching you.
- 10:30Speaker 1: It's like USC quarterbacks.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Like the USC quarterbacks. So Keelan Russell is from Duncanville
- 10:34Speaker 2: for people that don't know Duncanville. And if you listen
- 10:36Speaker 2: to this show, you probably know what Duncanville is, to
- 10:38Speaker 2: be honest. But it's a suburban power just outside of Dallas.
- 10:42Speaker 2: For people that are not familiar with the area, it
- 10:46Speaker 2: kind of is what Dallas Carter used to be. in
- 10:48Speaker 2: terms of just a bunch of, a wave of talent.
- 10:50Speaker 2: They're always, you know, competing for state championships. And his
- 10:53Speaker 2: team did win a state championship his senior year. And
- 10:56Speaker 2: I mean, again, people have seen the guys he played
- 10:59Speaker 2: with his junior year. They're like 10 FBS starters.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And a couple of dudes are like cold.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Colin Simmons!
- 11:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Colin Simmons is on that team. Yeah, if I
- 11:09Speaker 1: say it's cold. I feel like even his receivers were
- 11:12Speaker 1: cold like that, right?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, DeCorey and Moore, Caden Durham. Like, I mean, just
- 11:16Speaker 2: a bunch of people that have started games at FBS.
- 11:19Speaker 2: He was the pilot of that team. So I'm always like,
- 11:22Speaker 2: how do you know that he's actually good? Because he's
- 11:24Speaker 2: never actually endured any real friction in the pocket. But evidently,
- 11:29Speaker 2: he the one.
- 11:31Speaker 1: And you pointed out, though, my cause for skepticism when
- 11:35Speaker 1: it comes to him. You just said it.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Oh.
- 11:39Speaker 1: He from Dallas. I just got it as a general rule.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Do you consider Duncanville Dallas?
- 11:45Speaker 1: For purposes of this discussion.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Okay, all right.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Yes, I do.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Because I feel like.
- 11:49Speaker 1: They're a little different. Duncanville's a little more Fort Worth,
- 11:51Speaker 1: which is a different set of concerns.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 1: But like, yeah, I came from Dallas. In fact, now
- 11:58Speaker 1: that I think about it, let me look up what
- 11:59Speaker 1: kind of haircut this boy got.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Keelan?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, because he from Dallas. Anything is on the board.
- 12:06Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, well.
- 12:08Speaker 1: No, he's all right. He's straight. He ain't got a shag.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I bet he's had one before, though. I just kind
- 12:15Speaker 2: of assumed that he would have the low-cut fade or whatever.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Kids just don't have that, man. They don't have the
- 12:20Speaker 2: Martin Luther King.
- 12:21Speaker 1: No, and I'm trying to figure out, man, how they
- 12:23Speaker 1: got all this time for all this braiding. Did you
- 12:26Speaker 1: have a braids run?
- 12:28Speaker 2: Of course not. No.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I mean, of course not. Why you say that? I
- 12:31Speaker 1: had one.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I didn't know. I just, I don't.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I mean, if you did, that's fine, but you said that.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. I caught a whiff of anti-blackness.
- 12:39Speaker 2: No, I don't have a face that looks like I
- 12:42Speaker 2: can have. I don't think I have a look that
- 12:43Speaker 2: would support a braids look, man.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Brother, to be fair, when it was running, that didn't
- 12:48Speaker 1: stop me or nobody else, right? I didn't know. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: asked if you would give it a try, but I
- 12:53Speaker 1: forgot some of us went to private school. Anyway.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:56Speaker 1: All right.
- 12:59Speaker 2: All right. Okay. I mean, is Park Atlanta a public school?
- 13:06Speaker 1: Okay, I will take my student body and put it
- 13:08Speaker 1: next to the straight Jesuit.
- 13:09Speaker 2: High school student body.
- 13:11Speaker 1: You get to, yeah, okay. Anyway. Anyway. And I forgot
- 13:17Speaker 1: what I was saying.
- 13:17Speaker 2: You were talking about he from Dallas. He probably had
- 13:19Speaker 2: a shag before.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he probably had a shag. He ain't got no
- 13:21Speaker 1: shag no more. But anyway, I think this is going
- 13:24Speaker 1: to be a game because Georgia's been blowing everybody's doors
- 13:26Speaker 1: off this year.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Well, we don't know any– that's the thing. We don't–
- 13:30Speaker 2: we know a little bit of something about Alabama because
- 13:32Speaker 2: they've actually played two tough games on the road, even
- 13:36Speaker 2: though they're not teams that you typically think of as good.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Like that Kentucky game, that was sort of a– they
- 13:41Speaker 2: could have gotten jumped into SEC play. Kentucky was hyped
- 13:44Speaker 2: for that game, and they struggled early. and they came
- 13:46Speaker 2: through it and pulled away. The same deal with Mississippi State.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Mississippi State was undefeated. They've got a quarterback who... I mean,
- 13:54Speaker 2: I wouldn't take Keelan Russell over Kamario Taylor.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Put a pin in that. We're going to get back there.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but he's a dog. And they went in there,
- 14:01Speaker 2: handled that, a situation where they said it probably was
- 14:04Speaker 2: about as big a game in Starkville as there been
- 14:06Speaker 2: since Dak Prescott was there. So Alabama has actually had
- 14:10Speaker 2: some moments of doubt and being whatever. Georgia, my understanding
- 14:14Speaker 2: is that Georgia is one of three teams that has
- 14:16Speaker 2: not trailed for a second this year.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I think they've.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Won all their games by something like 40, 50 points.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 2: What are we supposed to do? How are we actually
- 14:25Speaker 2: supposed to know they're good? I mean, we get a
- 14:27Speaker 2: sense that they're good, but how do we know that
- 14:30Speaker 2: they're good?
- 14:30Speaker 1: I mean, I will just say that the argument is
- 14:32Speaker 1: we can't tell how good they are because they've looked
- 14:34Speaker 1: so good.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Well, you know, the thing is, they should have been
- 14:39Speaker 2: tested by now. But Oklahoma just couldn't, I guess.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Well, Oklahoma was down a gang of dudes for that game.
- 14:46Speaker 1: For whatever it's worth.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I mean, we'll get to them, too. But they were
- 14:50Speaker 1: down a gang of dudes for that game.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Well, the thing is, I mean, it really fell apart
- 14:54Speaker 2: for them. They were driving. They were down 14 to zip.
- 14:58Speaker 2: And then John Mateer had that weird throw. The ball
- 15:00Speaker 2: slipped out his hand and Chris Cole picked the ball up.
- 15:04Speaker 2: That is the fastest linebacker I've ever seen in my life.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Chris Cole, when he returned that fumble against OU. So yeah, Georgia, man,
- 15:11Speaker 2: they've got the dogs. I mean, this looks like a
- 15:14Speaker 2: typical Georgia team. It looks like the best, one of
- 15:17Speaker 2: the best possible versions of the Georgia you're going to get.
- 15:20Speaker 2: But they got to play somebody. We got to see,
- 15:22Speaker 2: you know, Alabama could be that.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I tell you who I know ain't never had no braids.
- 15:27Speaker 1: You can just say this every year. The quarterback at Georgia.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It don't matter who it is. It don't matter what year.
- 15:33Speaker 1: That motherfucker ain't had no braids. And not even when
- 15:35Speaker 1: they went to Jamaica. Like, no matter what it is,
- 15:37Speaker 1: that boy, is it still Gunner Stockton?
- 15:41Speaker 2: Yeah, Gunner Stockton, man.
- 15:42Speaker 1: That's the one thing about it. It ain't just enough
- 15:44Speaker 1: for Georgia to have one of them boys as their quarterback.
- 15:46Speaker 1: They all got to have a Georgia quarterback name, too.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Oh, a Georgia quarterback. I mean, Trump was excited to
- 15:51Speaker 2: see Gunner Stockton a little bit earlier.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Apparently Trump was excited to see the Baltimore Ravens, too.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I mean, Hey man. Yeah. I mean, Lamar, man, whatever.
- 15:58Speaker 2: But yeah. Um, yeah. I mean, they don't, the one
- 16:02Speaker 2: guy that they've had that broke, you know, that would
- 16:04Speaker 2: broke the mold. He had to leave after a year
- 16:06Speaker 2: because of racism concerns.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they had him and they had the one
- 16:10Speaker 1: that didn't turn out to be good. What was his name?
- 16:13Speaker 2: Um, Oh, DeJuan Mathis.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:16Speaker 2: DeJuan Mathis. That's right. That's right. And Georgia did offer
- 16:20Speaker 2: Juju Lewis. Now, I think Juju was committed to SC
- 16:23Speaker 2: when he ended up going to Colorado. But I think
- 16:26Speaker 2: Kirby Smart's thing is that he doesn't like having to
- 16:28Speaker 2: recruit five-star quarterbacks. That's allegedly what the issue is because
- 16:33Speaker 2: somebody's going to come in, swoop you. It's a kind
- 16:35Speaker 2: of competitive recruiting market that he feels would be better
- 16:38Speaker 2: spent on the rest of the roster. And then you
- 16:40Speaker 2: can put in somebody like Gunnar Stockton.
- 16:42Speaker 1: They've been recruiting the same quarterback over and over.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Jake Fromm.
- 16:46Speaker 1: For 30-something years. With the DJ Shockley, he had to
- 16:50Speaker 1: sit for four years before he got his opportunity.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Quincy Carter. They had Quincy Carter there for years.
- 16:57Speaker 1: That's right. So, yeah, he cuts into the 30. We'll
- 17:00Speaker 1: call it just 20.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Okay, a third twin. But also, I mean, I'm trying
- 17:03Speaker 2: to think. I mean, Matt Stafford, that's a whole different thing.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I mean, you do that, right?
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you do that.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It was an underwhelming tenure, but you do that. Oh, boy,
- 17:16Speaker 1: they're going to get mad at me about that one again.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I mean, they were good, but they didn't do what
- 17:20Speaker 2: they're doing now. Well, they had that.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Thing also where the one year that was their best year,
- 17:25Speaker 1: they did not win. They were top five, but they
- 17:28Speaker 1: did not win the conference.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Was that a game that they lost to Alabama? I
- 17:33Speaker 2: think they lost that game.
- 17:34Speaker 1: They lost two games. They had two embarrassing losses in 07.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Tennessee smoked them, and I forget who else it was,
- 17:41Speaker 1: but they had these two bad losses. But they also
- 17:44Speaker 1: had the great win, which was the year that they
- 17:47Speaker 1: went and stunted off Florida in the end zone, and
- 17:50Speaker 1: Florida never recovered.
- 17:53Speaker 2: That was great.
- 17:54Speaker 1: And then the next year, Florida blew their– doors off
- 17:59Speaker 1: and call timeouts at the end of it to twist
- 18:02Speaker 1: the knife i love college football i.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Mean that's what i said that's just i mean that's
- 18:05Speaker 2: just the great part about it man i mean again
- 18:07Speaker 2: there's like back then people remembered that shit man they
- 18:10Speaker 2: they they lived or died for the chance to embarrass
- 18:12Speaker 2: their rival it's a little different now but still these
- 18:15Speaker 2: boys get caught up in it no matter what because
- 18:17Speaker 2: they the thing is with these rivalries the kids actually
- 18:19Speaker 2: know each other now back in the day when i
- 18:21Speaker 2: was playing football man you knew people on your side
- 18:23Speaker 2: of town it was like Interesting to see people on
- 18:26Speaker 2: the other side of town. So now when they're playing
- 18:29Speaker 2: against each other, part of the rivalry is that you
- 18:31Speaker 2: might have got me at Nike camp or the USA
- 18:34Speaker 2: All-American game, but I'm going to get you now. So, yeah.
- 18:38Speaker 1: All right. Now, Texas, Oklahoma is also this weekend.
- 18:45Speaker 2: You must be feeling pretty good about your team, man.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Pretty good. How much are your boys' favorite, bro? I
- 18:52Speaker 2: don't know.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I don't root for that team anymore.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Okay, my bad.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I don't know why you keep doing this.
- 18:58Speaker 2: You said that. You said that.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, how long have I been saying it, Joel? It's
- 19:02Speaker 1: only been six years.
- 19:03Speaker 2: The favorites set by seven and a half points, man.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Joel's so bad at this and so desperate to try
- 19:08Speaker 1: to get a leg up that the best he got is,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'm going to keep saying you root for this team
- 19:12Speaker 1: that you said you stopped rooting for.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Obviously, it bothers you. So I'm going to keep saying
- 19:17Speaker 2: it until it stops.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Just because you so whack.
- 19:20Speaker 2: No, man.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Well, you know my other reason it bothers me, and
- 19:24Speaker 1: it makes me think less of you as a person.
- 19:28Speaker 2: No, what?
- 19:28Speaker 1: It's because you know why I stopped doing this.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know.
- 19:33Speaker 1: You know why I stopped doing this, and the least
- 19:35Speaker 1: you could do is show a little respect for that fact.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I mean, okay, sure. All right. I mean, you know,
- 19:40Speaker 2: I'm glad. There's a lot of people that have gotten
- 19:43Speaker 2: mad at me about pointing this out over and over again,
- 19:46Speaker 2: and they haven't said a thing against it, so I
- 19:48Speaker 2: will at least give you credit for that She's like,
- 19:50Speaker 2: you know, that was a little bit too far.
- 19:52Speaker 1: No, you don't give me any credit for that. That's
- 19:53Speaker 1: the point of what we're saying.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, you know, I just, you know,
- 19:57Speaker 2: just needling you a little bit, brother.
- 19:59Speaker 1: No, and you're just not good at it.
- 20:01Speaker 2: You can't even come up with nothing good. No, you
- 20:03Speaker 2: sensitive after this baby face week you've had. You know
- 20:06Speaker 2: what I'm saying? I wasn't trying to hurt you.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Joel, I do this to you every time you bring
- 20:09Speaker 1: this bullshit up. That ain't got nothing to do with
- 20:11Speaker 1: no baby face.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Okay, all right, all right. So your boy is a longhorn.
- 20:16Speaker 2: But anyway, see if you agree with me on this.
- 20:20Speaker 2: I still think this is going to be a close game.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's always on the board. I wouldn't guarantee it. But,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I mean, we just watched– I say we watched Georgia
- 20:28Speaker 1: smoke them. Like, I don't think they're going to be
- 20:29Speaker 1: down all those dudes this game. Anything's on the board
- 20:32Speaker 1: with this game because anything's on the board with this game. However,
- 20:37Speaker 1: there is no question which one of these teams has
- 20:38Speaker 1: the most talent.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Oh, it's not even close.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I mean, to be fair, I don't know how close
- 20:43Speaker 1: it is with just about anybody else.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You know, the thing that's shocking because, I mean, OU
- 20:48Speaker 2: for most of the last generation has been the better program, right? Like,
- 20:51Speaker 2: Texas has had some moments.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I mean, for– Post-integration, they've been the better program.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Well, that too. That too. But all of a sudden,
- 21:00Speaker 2: just in the last two to three years, it just
- 21:02Speaker 2: feels like... I mean, this is credit to Steve Sarkeesian
- 21:05Speaker 2: and his general manager, who is Brandon Harris, one of
- 21:09Speaker 2: Bossier City's own.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Oh, LSU Brandon Harris?
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yes. North Carolina Brandon Harris.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 21:15Speaker 2: From Bossier Parkway. He's the general manager there. And so...
- 21:21Speaker 2: for whatever reason, they've just been able to assemble an
- 21:24Speaker 2: incredible amount of talent relative to OU. And I'm just...
- 21:27Speaker 2: If you're an OU fan, you have to be looking
- 21:29Speaker 2: at that.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Like, why.
- 21:31Speaker 2: We have the guy that used to do the senior bowl.
- 21:34Speaker 2: You know, that was the pitch for our general manager.
- 21:36Speaker 2: What is wrong? Why don't we have the kind of
- 21:38Speaker 2: talent that Texas got? Why don't we have a Hollywood Smothers?
- 21:41Speaker 2: You know, they got Hollywood Smothers and Relique Brown. Why
- 21:44Speaker 2: don't we have Relique Brown?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Well, part of why they used to be able to
- 21:47Speaker 1: compete on talent, and we know this, is there were
- 21:50Speaker 1: dudes that they would take that the other guys wouldn't
- 21:52Speaker 1: take for whatever happened to me. Oh, everybody. I'm going
- 21:57Speaker 1: to tell you the best way to put this. I
- 21:59Speaker 1: think the best way to put this. I say this,
- 22:01Speaker 1: this is the case in a lot of Big 12 games,
- 22:03Speaker 1: is that everybody at Texas got an offer from Texas.
- 22:08Speaker 1: And not everybody at, we'll call it for this discussion,
- 22:12Speaker 1: Texas Tech. How many guys on Texas Tech's roster got
- 22:15Speaker 1: an offer from Texas in given years at other points?
- 22:18Speaker 1: How many of those guys that are on those other teams,
- 22:20Speaker 1: if they had gotten offers from Texas, would have gone
- 22:22Speaker 1: to Texas.
- 22:22Speaker 2: You, you might have a handful and they might've not
- 22:25Speaker 2: been committable offers.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Correct. Right.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Right.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But Oklahoma, Texas is always fishing from a different pool.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Now when he gets like to the super top, especially
- 22:34Speaker 1: in the Northern part of the state, Oh, you had
- 22:36Speaker 1: a chance.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:37Speaker 1: But like, oh, you couldn't recruit in Houston. It's eight
- 22:39Speaker 1: hours away by car. It's just not, you know, there
- 22:42Speaker 1: would be guys every now and then. I don't want
- 22:43Speaker 1: to quit. You have your Quentin Griffins. Right, right. So
- 22:47Speaker 1: it's some of them. But it's always easier recruiting at
- 22:50Speaker 1: Texas than it was at Oklahoma. And what you would
- 22:52Speaker 1: hope for in the new world order. Now that Oklahoma
- 22:54Speaker 1: can pay people out in the open, you know, that
- 22:58Speaker 1: it's just like, okay, my money versus your money, but
- 23:00Speaker 1: your money not messing with that Texas money. Did you
- 23:02Speaker 1: see when the Tyson chicken dude at Arkansas, you see
- 23:05Speaker 1: that quote from him?
- 23:07Speaker 2: I did see that quote from him, yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 1: So Tyson chicken that you see in your stores, that's
- 23:12Speaker 1: the money, a lot of the money behind Arkansas football.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And he was at the touchdown club in Little Rock
- 23:17Speaker 1: and they asked him about doing for Arkansas what Cody
- 23:20Speaker 1: Campbell has done for Texas Tech. And his response was,
- 23:23Speaker 1: He got oil. I got chickens. It's not the same.
- 23:27Speaker 1: We're not talking about the same kind of money. OU
- 23:31Speaker 1: is now, to me, like Arkansas. Like, boy, I sure
- 23:34Speaker 1: wish we could go back to the Big 12 for
- 23:35Speaker 1: the good old days. Oh, yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I mean, the thing is, they had to go to
- 23:39Speaker 2: the SEC because they could not afford to be left behind.
- 23:43Speaker 1: They would not be able to keep getting players. It
- 23:45Speaker 1: had gotten so hard for both of them to get players.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Right. And so the thing is now it's just, I mean,
- 23:50Speaker 2: Lincoln Riley got out ahead of this and it's understandable.
- 23:54Speaker 2: OU for the most part is never going to, in
- 23:57Speaker 2: the Big 12, they were all pretty much talented, more
- 24:00Speaker 2: talented than everybody else with the exception of Texas in
- 24:03Speaker 2: any given year. Now in the SEC, are they even...
- 24:08Speaker 2: Do you even think they're a top half program in
- 24:09Speaker 2: terms of like overall raw talent in terms when you
- 24:12Speaker 2: add transfer? You know, you got Georgia, Texas, LSU.
- 24:15Speaker 1: You talking about just like all things created equal?
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Bama.
- 24:20Speaker 1: So this is what I would say. Top half is, well,
- 24:22Speaker 1: top half is, to not be top half would be
- 24:25Speaker 1: number nine. And I don't think I can go that
- 24:28Speaker 1: far down.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Where Oklahoma would get their comparative advantage over Texas was
- 24:34Speaker 1: the ability to truly recruit nationwide, especially going into California,
- 24:40Speaker 1: and they would go get a lot of dudes out
- 24:41Speaker 1: of Atlanta. And Florida.
- 24:44Speaker 2: They got a little Florida guys, too.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they would do some of that. But that's where
- 24:47Speaker 1: they would have their chance, where Texas wasn't doing any
- 24:49Speaker 1: of that. Well, now Texas is doing that, right? Now
- 24:52Speaker 1: Texas is going to get those guys. I still feel
- 24:54Speaker 1: like relative to a lot of the SEC, because Georgia
- 24:56Speaker 1: does a lot of California work now, Oklahoma still should
- 24:59Speaker 1: be able to go to some of those places that
- 25:01Speaker 1: they had been able to go to, especially when you
- 25:02Speaker 1: still have a downish USC, a down UCLA. It's still
- 25:07Speaker 1: possible with them. Now, what's going to be interesting is
- 25:09Speaker 1: they had the best athletic director in the country for decades,
- 25:13Speaker 1: and they don't have that anymore. They have a middle-of-the-road coach,
- 25:17Speaker 1: a very good defensive coordinator that they hired in large
- 25:21Speaker 1: part because they didn't expect to be looking for a coach,
- 25:23Speaker 1: and so they got a Stoops guy, basically.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 1: To kind of, you know, to kind of keep the
- 25:27Speaker 1: party going. But that's a place historically where the right
- 25:31Speaker 1: coach has been able to make it happen and they
- 25:33Speaker 1: don't have the right coach, I don't think.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I mean, and the thing is, we're saying the right
- 25:36Speaker 2: coach hasn't been able to make it happen. They were
- 25:38Speaker 2: in the playoffs last year.
- 25:39Speaker 1: They were. And that's where it gets to be fun
- 25:41Speaker 1: with you. They are like a lesser version of Nebraska
- 25:44Speaker 1: where they're going to have to recalibrate what success is.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Wow, a lesser.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I mean lesser in the sense that they're not going
- 25:52Speaker 1: to fall like Nebraska has fallen.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Of course.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Thank you for allowing me to clarify that before my
- 25:57Speaker 1: mama ran up on me. Imagine explaining to a young
- 26:01Speaker 1: person now, Nebraska... You know what that'd be like? That'd
- 26:05Speaker 1: be like telling people, you don't know this boy, but Cleveland, boy,
- 26:08Speaker 1: the factory. Detroit, boy, we was making them.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Cars, boy. You could live a good life in Detroit.
- 26:15Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? A good job and a
- 26:18Speaker 2: home and a pension.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Brothers had money.
- 26:20Speaker 2: They're coming back with Cadillacs and furs and the whole nine.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Nebraska ain't got that no more.
- 26:26Speaker 2: We're going to talk about this later. I'm sorry, too.
- 26:30Speaker 2: But Nebraska and Colorado, a couple of those states, you
- 26:34Speaker 2: got to go over two states to get to them,
- 26:36Speaker 2: to get to players. And, I mean, money should level
- 26:40Speaker 2: that out a little bit, but it does matter your
- 26:42Speaker 2: proximity to athletes still.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Far is still far. Home is still home. It still
- 26:48Speaker 1: matters on levels. It is easier to recruit out of
- 26:51Speaker 1: state than it's ever been. Far is still far. Home
- 26:55Speaker 1: is still home. But there was a part of that
- 26:57Speaker 1: Texas-Oklahoma game that I want to ask you about, and
- 27:00Speaker 1: I think I told you a little bit about what
- 27:02Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you about with this. We'll talk
- 27:03Speaker 1: about it coming up next. It involves Joel's favorite quarterback.

- 28:32Speaker 2: have to do that. I can pump my own self up.
- 28:35Speaker 1: We know you will, Joe. We know you will. So
- 28:40Speaker 1: this is the last Arch Manning year, right? We don't
- 28:42Speaker 1: think Arch is coming back for a five, do we?
- 28:45Speaker 2: Ah, shit, man. I think he might have to.
- 28:47Speaker 1: So it's been interesting because by the end of last year,
- 28:51Speaker 1: the people that I trust that watched the film were
- 28:53Speaker 1: saying he was starting to look like the dude that
- 28:54Speaker 1: people thought that he could be. I haven't heard anybody
- 28:57Speaker 1: say that this year. and he is not what people
- 29:00Speaker 1: would expect from him. They have to remember his daddy
- 29:02Speaker 1: was the wide receiver. He is a great athlete that
- 29:07Speaker 1: does not currently appear to be so great of a quarterback.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure why Archie was so certain that
- 29:15Speaker 1: Sark was the guy to do this, but they did.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Now we look up, where does he rank in the SEC?
- 29:22Speaker 1: I say fourth at best.
- 29:24Speaker 2: So that means you have Keelan or Kamario.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Kamario Taylor, Keelan Russell. And Trinidad Chambliss.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Oh, of course. Yeah, Trinidad, who is number one. I mean,
- 29:34Speaker 2: if you needed to win a game today, right? Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:38Speaker 2: I mean, he's definitely not better than those three.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Guys.
- 29:40Speaker 2: And I don't think anybody would take him over those guys.
- 29:42Speaker 3: No.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:44Speaker 1: No. This wasn't supposed to be that. Like, I think
- 29:47Speaker 1: he's better than Sam Levitt.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's good.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Ryan's over here looking like a pez dispenser. He nodding
- 29:54Speaker 1: so hard about that.
- 29:57Speaker 2: We've seen the Sam Leavitt thing now. We kind of
- 29:58Speaker 2: got a sense of what it's going to look like.
- 30:00Speaker 1: It's an experience.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like, all right, cool. Would you take him
- 30:04Speaker 2: over Lenore Sellers? Or do you think of Lenore Sellers
- 30:06Speaker 2: as totally damaged goods now?
- 30:09Speaker 1: That's where it gets interesting because I don't know what
- 30:11Speaker 1: to make of that. You know what I mean? Like,
- 30:13Speaker 1: I was not as high on him when everybody was high.
- 30:18Speaker 1: But I put it like this. I think Arches demonstrated
- 30:20Speaker 1: a higher floor. That said, they're about to run. They're
- 30:23Speaker 1: probably going to run Beamer out of there. It was
- 30:25Speaker 1: all good. It was really all good just a little
- 30:27Speaker 1: while ago.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I mean, man, South Carolina ain't asking for much, but
- 30:31Speaker 2: you can't be bad.
- 30:33Speaker 1: No, but I mean, the response to that is, why
- 30:35Speaker 1: should they be good? That's a terrible job, man.
- 30:41Speaker 2: It's just interesting because I'm sure you've been to Columbia.
- 30:44Speaker 2: I've never been to Clemson, and people keep telling me
- 30:46Speaker 2: that Clemson is, like, beautiful, that it's actually a really
- 30:48Speaker 2: nice college town. Columbia, bruh. That's a tough— The thing— they' ve
- 30:53Speaker 2: got the fan support, man. That's—Williams-Brice State, that thing goes hard.
- 30:58Speaker 2: They show up when they're bad.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Yes.
- 31:01Speaker 2: But Columbia, dog.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Here's the problem with a school like South Carolina. I'm
- 31:06Speaker 1: curious what you think about this.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 31:09Speaker 1: So, like, what's good enough? I don't have an answer
- 31:13Speaker 1: for what's good enough at South Carolina. Like, Spurrier had
- 31:16Speaker 1: that run where they managed to have, what, Stephon Gilmore,
- 31:20Speaker 1: Jadeveon Clowney, Marcus Lattimore come out of the state at
- 31:23Speaker 1: the same time, and they were able to keep them all. Right.
- 31:26Speaker 1: And they put up results better than they ever have
- 31:29Speaker 1: all time at that school. That's never going to happen again.
- 31:32Speaker 1: They're never going to have a run of, like, three
- 31:33Speaker 1: straight double-digit win seasons, I think it was. Oh, no.
- 31:37Speaker 2: They could. I mean, the thing is, you can envision
- 31:39Speaker 2: a scenario in which, you know, one year, every four
- 31:43Speaker 2: or five, they win 10 to 11 games.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Oh, I can't see that at all.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Oh, really? You don't think they could do that?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Well, I don't know.
- 31:49Speaker 2: What if Lenore Sellers lived up to, what if Lenore
- 31:53Speaker 2: Sellers and Dylan Stewart, all these guys lived up to
- 31:56Speaker 2: their potential? You know what?
- 31:57Speaker 1: I guess the trick bag on that is because schedules
- 32:00Speaker 1: are so variant now. Yeah. Yeah, it's possible. I guess
- 32:03Speaker 1: when you put it in those terms.
- 32:05Speaker 2: A & M just lost one game last year in
- 32:08Speaker 2: the regular season.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Yeah, but paying the piper for that now, aren't they?
- 32:12Speaker 2: It changed. They switched up on it.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Paying the piper now. But a place like South Carolina,
- 32:19Speaker 1: if you win eight games, say you win eight games
- 32:21Speaker 1: every year for ten years, you're not going to get
- 32:23Speaker 1: ten years, even though eight games every year is be
- 32:27Speaker 1: pretty good for South Carolina. Or like, how about maybe
- 32:30Speaker 1: this is the better metric. How many SEC games do
- 32:34Speaker 1: you have to win? Call it a five-year period. Do
- 32:37Speaker 1: you have to win? Is 15 SEC wins three-year, four-year?
- 32:42Speaker 2: Is that enough? They play nine games now. Five or four.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Can you keep it's five or four?
- 32:48Speaker 1: I mean, I think five and four every year is
- 32:51Speaker 1: it's a lot to ask of South Carolina, while also
- 32:54Speaker 1: probably being what South Carolina could ask for. Like being
- 32:58Speaker 1: as good as the average one could make the fair
- 33:02Speaker 1: point is not enough to keep your job. They want
- 33:05Speaker 1: somebody exceptional. Now, of course, the problem is if I
- 33:07Speaker 1: am exceptionally doing this job at South Carolina, guess what
- 33:10Speaker 1: I'm going to do?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Probably going to have to.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Why would I keep doing this?
- 33:14Speaker 2: Catch that good job. I mean, the thing that really
- 33:17Speaker 2: messes up South Carolina, particularly now, or schools in that
- 33:21Speaker 2: half of it, is that every now and again, Vandy
- 33:24Speaker 2: gets serious at football.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Kentucky appears to be serious at football right now.
- 33:28Speaker 3: Right?
- 33:28Speaker 2: And so South Carolina's fans can see, man, In one year,
- 33:33Speaker 2: Kentucky has already got us. So he can't stay under
- 33:37Speaker 2: those circumstances.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Well, don't forget the one that looms over everybody, and
- 33:41Speaker 1: I was thinking about this when we were talking about Oklahoma.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I was around the ACC that year that Wake Forest
- 33:49Speaker 1: won the ACC.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 33:50Speaker 1: And that led to wholesale changes all around the conference
- 33:55Speaker 1: because if Wake Forest could win, and Wake Forest had
- 33:58Speaker 1: something like 3,500 students at the time. If Wake Forest
- 34:02Speaker 1: can win, nobody has any excuse. It really is what
- 34:05Speaker 1: made Duke football become something different because every story that
- 34:09Speaker 1: you had, none of them hold anymore if Wake Forest
- 34:13Speaker 1: could win the ACC. Indiana won a national championship. That's
- 34:19Speaker 1: on everybody now.
- 34:22Speaker 2: I saw somebody say this. I don't know if it
- 34:24Speaker 2: was Stephen Godfrey or somebody else. They were talking about
- 34:26Speaker 2: Cignetti derangement syndrome because now everybody– It is sort of,
- 34:32Speaker 2: it's true in a long shot sense that if Indiana
- 34:36Speaker 2: can do it, anybody can do it, right? but it's
- 34:40Speaker 2: kind of like i don't know man chris signetti might
- 34:43Speaker 2: be the best coach ever right you know right he
- 34:45Speaker 2: he got to bring his whole team over that was
- 34:47Speaker 2: really good but they.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Was from james they were still the james madison team.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I mean that's the thing man yeah and it's not
- 34:55Speaker 2: like they had like four four uh first rounders or
- 34:58Speaker 2: anything like that was ohio state and they beat ohio state.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Yo there's an argument by the way the more that
- 35:04Speaker 1: passes and the more that happens And despite all the wins,
- 35:11Speaker 1: the people who come from the outside and look at
- 35:13Speaker 1: the way people talk about Ryan Day and they're like,
- 35:15Speaker 1: how much more do you want? And the answer is
- 35:17Speaker 1: a little more.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah, a little more.
- 35:19Speaker 1: He is not making us believe at all.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I could totally understand being like, so I think when
- 35:25Speaker 2: they had like five or five of the first 10
- 35:27Speaker 2: or 11 picks or something like that last year and
- 35:30Speaker 2: being and not. Not even getting to the semifinal. Hold on,
- 35:33Speaker 2: hold on.
- 35:34Speaker 1: And them boys are beasts. Arvell Reese is in the NFL.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Oh, he's cold.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Sonny Styles is a beast.
- 35:41Speaker 2: He's cold.
- 35:41Speaker 1: And by the way, there's a guy on this team
- 35:44Speaker 1: that's better than all of those guys.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Nuts.
- 35:46Speaker 1: And he's still there. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:48Speaker 2: You got to have him.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith is in the two-man class for me in
- 35:53Speaker 1: my recollection. I call it a three-man class of Peter Wark,
- 35:59Speaker 1: Randy Moss, and Larry Fitzgerald. in terms of just outright
- 36:04Speaker 1: indisputable college football receiver greatness. Like Calvin Johnson is maybe
- 36:09Speaker 1: in that room. That's how good these guys are that
- 36:11Speaker 1: we're talking about here. Jeremiah Smith is there.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Oh, I've already said that I think Jeremiah Smith is
- 36:16Speaker 2: the best receiver in college football history.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I know one of those years was in Division I AA,
- 36:23Speaker 1: but the Randy Moss show. is still.
- 36:28Speaker 2: So the only thing that made... I heard Danny Connell
- 36:32Speaker 2: say this on the Cover 3 podcast, because they asked him.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Because he... Randy... He got to throw to Randy when
- 36:38Speaker 2: Randy was at Florida State before he flunked a drug
- 36:40Speaker 2: test and had to go to Marshall. But they asked him.
- 36:44Speaker 2: They were like, what do you think? And he was like,
- 36:46Speaker 2: I don't know. And to me, the idea that he
- 36:51Speaker 2: was open to it, open to the question... I mean,
- 36:56Speaker 2: that kind of says it all about how good he is, man.
- 36:58Speaker 2: For people that don't remember Randy Moss, because Randy Moss
- 37:01Speaker 2: was crazy in college.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I would just make this point. In that year that
- 37:04Speaker 1: he talks about, so for those who don't know how
- 37:05Speaker 1: this went, Moss got arrested in high school for a fight.
- 37:09Speaker 1: And the condition, he was supposed to go to Notre Dame.
- 37:12Speaker 1: They found a way to get out of letting him in.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Lou Holtz called Bobby Bowden and was like, hey, I
- 37:18Speaker 1: got somebody for you. A phone call that I never
- 37:20Speaker 1: would have made. I'd have called, what's his name, Billy Joe.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I'd have called.
- 37:30Speaker 2: I'd have called Kim Hilton.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I'd have called the HBCUs.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I'd have called all kinds of people. I'd have called Marshall.
- 37:38Speaker 1: There's no way in the world I would have called
- 37:40Speaker 1: Florida State. But anyway, he called Florida. Good on you,
- 37:43Speaker 1: Lou Holtz, right? He called Florida. It also tells you
- 37:45Speaker 1: that it was not Lou Holtz's idea to not let
- 37:47Speaker 1: that boy in. Yeah, right. I don't know what Randy
- 37:50Speaker 1: Moss would have had to do. Randy Moss would have
- 37:52Speaker 1: had to set that white boy on fire for Lou
- 37:54Speaker 1: Holtz to be like, he can't come here.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I mean, given what Lou Holtz has set behind, bro,
- 37:59Speaker 2: he know he wanted him so bad.
- 38:00Speaker 1: He wanted him so bad. He wanted him so bad.
- 38:02Speaker 1: But anyway, he goes to Florida State. The condition was
- 38:05Speaker 1: that he had to redshirt. Which, interesting, because they don't
- 38:09Speaker 1: redshirt guys like that anymore. But he said the condition
- 38:11Speaker 1: was he had to redshirt. And in the research I've
- 38:14Speaker 1: done on this, which is extensive, just for those of
- 38:17Speaker 1: you who don't know me.
- 38:18Speaker 2: That's right.
- 38:20Speaker 1: He got a touchdown in every practice or scrimmage that
- 38:24Speaker 1: they had. For the 1995 Florida State Seminoles.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Right. I mean, the thing is, man, it's just crazy
- 38:32Speaker 2: when you say 1995 because when we were kids, that
- 38:35Speaker 2: would have been somebody saying the 1965. It would have.
- 38:39Speaker 2: So they don't understand, but kids, I promise you, Florida
- 38:42Speaker 2: State was that school, bro. I mean, the talent at
- 38:46Speaker 2: Florida State in the early to mid-' 90s I mean, who compares?
- 38:51Speaker 2: Late 80s Miami?
- 38:52Speaker 1: Late 80s Miami, 70s USC, which I contend is kind
- 38:56Speaker 1: of the original Miami.
- 38:58Speaker 2: You're right.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Because all these great migration boys, and they're far away
- 39:01Speaker 1: from everywhere. We're just going to keep them here.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Lock up here. That's right.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Think about this for 95 Florida State. The greatest pair
- 39:08Speaker 1: of wide receivers ever might have been the 1995 practice
- 39:12Speaker 1: squad at Florida State.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Oh, man. Because Peter Warrick.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Was redshirting the same year. How cold was your team
- 39:20Speaker 1: that you could redshirt Peter Warrick?
- 39:23Speaker 2: I mean, that's crazy, dog. I mean, it really is. Well, actually, no, no, no.
- 39:27Speaker 1: No, yeah, he was. Yeah, he was redshirting that year.
- 39:30Speaker 2: They had all these people on that team, and you
- 39:32Speaker 2: know who else they had on that team that year?
- 39:34Speaker 2: Warwick Dunn.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Warwick Dunn. A junior Warwick Dunn.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Yeah. It's just like, that's not... That is an absurd
- 39:42Speaker 2: amount of time.
- 39:43Speaker 1: They were so loaded. They were so loaded.
- 39:46Speaker 2: It was so loaded. And Randy Moss walked in, and
- 39:50Speaker 2: you said it. People were like, oh, he turned heads
- 39:54Speaker 2: at Florida State.
- 39:55Speaker 1: He's so good that, for my money, the best college
- 39:59Speaker 1: football team I've ever seen is 1995 Nebraska. It becomes
- 40:02Speaker 1: difficult to compare to them because they were running– You
- 40:05Speaker 1: could still get away but run an I-formation option as
- 40:09Speaker 1: your scheme at the time. So how do you compare
- 40:12Speaker 1: that after you've seen 2019 LSU and what they could do?
- 40:15Speaker 1: I know why it can be tough for somebody to
- 40:17Speaker 1: go back and look at 95 Nebraska and get what
- 40:20Speaker 1: the big deal was. But Randy Moss was so good.
- 40:24Speaker 1: So people understand, that is close to a consensus opinion
- 40:28Speaker 1: up until we got to these modern times about 95 Nebraska.
- 40:31Speaker 1: And I think most of us believe that if Florida
- 40:33Speaker 1: stayed here, Randy Moss– that they would have won that
- 40:35Speaker 1: national championship.
- 40:36Speaker 2: You think so? Wait, you think it's consensus that 95
- 40:39Speaker 2: Nebraska is better than 2001 Miami too?
- 40:42Speaker 1: I think they're close. Here's what I would say about that.
- 40:46Speaker 1: You could argue about the talent of 2001 Miami.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:50Speaker 1: But in terms of how good the actual team was
- 40:52Speaker 1: that went on the field.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Go ask Spencer about what they did to Florida.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Oh, man. That's a championship game. That game was, I mean, look,
- 41:05Speaker 2: I just have to admit it. That was about a
- 41:07Speaker 2: laugher on the scale of TCU Georgia.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Except it was Florida.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Except it was Florida. That did not happen to Florida
- 41:16Speaker 2: then either. No. So, man, was that 95? I'm trying
- 41:20Speaker 2: to remember if this is the team with not just
- 41:22Speaker 2: Lawrence Phillips, but Armand Green?
- 41:24Speaker 1: It was the year that Lawrence Phillips beat his girlfriend up,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and they put him off the team. And then Amon
- 41:31Speaker 1: Green was a true freshman and became the starter. And
- 41:34Speaker 1: then Tom Osborne, as someone once referred to Mark Jackson,
- 41:40Speaker 1: Tom Osborne, fake-ass man of God, then brought Lawrence Phillips
- 41:45Speaker 1: back for this game where they clearly did not need him.
- 41:49Speaker 2: They didn't need him. But he was still– I mean,
- 41:51Speaker 2: he was cold in that game, Doug. I mean, I
- 41:53Speaker 2: think Lawrence– I think he had over 100. So we
- 41:57Speaker 2: had also, of course, Tommy Frazier, who we haven't mentioned.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Argument for greatest college quarterback of all time.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. And people, you had to be there, kids.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:07Speaker 2: The Mike Minter, the Peter brothers.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Joel Makovica.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Jared Tomich. Yes.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I think Michael Booker was playing corner on that squad.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Aaron Graham. Mm-hmm.
- 42:21Speaker 1: They had dudes, man. They had dudes. And they had
- 42:24Speaker 1: a weightlifting situation that was... It was ahead of its time.
- 42:29Speaker 1: And it was ahead of its time.
- 42:32Speaker 2: It was. It really was. I mean, the thing is,
- 42:37Speaker 2: eventually people got hip to it. And that kind of
- 42:40Speaker 2: narrowed the margins. And then it was like.
- 42:42Speaker 1: They went from Big 8 admission standards to Big 12
- 42:45Speaker 1: admission standards.
- 42:46Speaker 2: One of the.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Big things when Texas... made the big 12 thing happen
- 42:50Speaker 1: was they wanted to up the admission standards because it's
- 42:54Speaker 1: a lot easier to win with higher admission standards when
- 42:57Speaker 1: you're recruiting texas right then it is when you're trying
- 42:59Speaker 1: to convince people to go to nebraska.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Right right i mean nebraska was kind of like like
- 43:06Speaker 2: if west virginia could have gotten the talent in nebraska
- 43:09Speaker 2: that's kind of what nebraska was yeah you know.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Like i'll never forget this you remember when bob stoops
- 43:13Speaker 1: came close to taking that notre dame job that time
- 43:16Speaker 1: And his big holdup was he went in there like,
- 43:19Speaker 1: so here's what I'm going to need. I'm going to
- 43:20Speaker 1: need some JUCOs. And they were like, you're going to
- 43:23Speaker 1: need some what? He's like, some JUCOs. I thought y'all
- 43:26Speaker 1: was trying to win because you could get JUCOs at OU. Like,
- 43:29Speaker 1: that's the thing. Texas wasn't taking JUCOs. OU was like,
- 43:32Speaker 1: we don't turn good players down.
- 43:35Speaker 2: I mean, that was always what gave them the advantage.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Yeah, right.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Good players, I mean, when that meant something different in
- 43:42Speaker 2: the 1970s.
- 43:43Speaker 1: An institutional commitment to winning.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Yes.
- 43:47Speaker 1: The best way to like not everybody. Texas has never
- 43:51Speaker 1: really had a super duper institutional commitment to winning. There's
- 43:54Speaker 1: quite an institutional commitment to racism, but a true institutional
- 43:58Speaker 1: commitment to winning. Not nearly as much.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. No, I mean, they I mean, they're like
- 44:04Speaker 2: it's I mean, again, people don't get mad at me
- 44:06Speaker 2: for saying this. It is a legendarily racist school. And
- 44:09Speaker 2: not just because of, you know, because every flagship.
- 44:13Speaker 1: School is because of their role.
- 44:14Speaker 2: In perpetuating racism.
- 44:16Speaker 1: They were at the vanguard. They were at the cutting
- 44:19Speaker 1: edge of racism. The first school to do standardized testing
- 44:24Speaker 1: because it would keep the blacks out.
- 44:27Speaker 2: I mean, bro, Van didn't believe this, I think, when
- 44:30Speaker 2: I told him this. I was like, The reason TSU
- 44:32Speaker 2: has a law school is because they did not want
- 44:35Speaker 2: to admit one black man into.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Their law school. It was separate but equal. And so
- 44:40Speaker 1: they were like, okay, well, let's open another one. How
- 44:43Speaker 1: about that'll solve the thing.
- 44:46Speaker 2: No, no, no, no.
- 44:47Speaker 1: So the thing is, Joel's anti-Texas thing is understandable because
- 44:50Speaker 1: this is– people don't understand this is a different era when–
- 44:54Speaker 1: black people did not root for the local teams. Like
- 44:56Speaker 1: in many cases, right? Because these are actually the people
- 45:00Speaker 1: that are spitting on you, right? The ones that are
- 45:01Speaker 1: closer to you. So you go pick races from other
- 45:03Speaker 1: states to decide that you would root for. I got
- 45:06Speaker 1: to root for Texas in part because the dude I
- 45:08Speaker 1: went to high school with wound up playing for them.
- 45:09Speaker 1: So then it carries over into that, right? But no,
- 45:14Speaker 1: historically speaking, The difference between Oklahoma and Texas the last 50,
- 45:19Speaker 1: 60 years is Oklahoma decided to do its racism different.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Right. They weren't going to get in the way of
- 45:26Speaker 2: some football. No.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Under no circumstance whatsoever.
- 45:31Speaker 2: The only thing that really stopped them was when their
- 45:35Speaker 2: backup quarterback got busted in a federal drug case.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Well, he wasn't a backup.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Yeah, he was the backup, and he was on the cover.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on, hold on. No, he was the
- 45:45Speaker 1: starter by then.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Charles Thompson. Yeah, because Holloway.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Holloway's 85 through 88. And this was January 89. In fact,
- 45:53Speaker 1: I think Thompson had gotten the job. But either way,
- 45:56Speaker 1: their quarterback was on the cover of Sports Illustrated in
- 45:58Speaker 1: an orange jumpsuit.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Orange jumpsuit. And that's when they was like, all right,
- 46:02Speaker 2: we have to do something about it. And then they
- 46:05Speaker 2: get Gary Gibbs and whatever else.
- 46:07Speaker 1: But you know what, though? It ain't even Gibbs' fault.
- 46:09Speaker 1: What happened was they got a TV ban. And they
- 46:13Speaker 1: suffered a serious probation at the time that Colorado was rising.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Yep.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Right.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Cause they used to be Oklahoma and the seven dwarves
- 46:22Speaker 1: is what they used to call the big eight. And
- 46:25Speaker 1: then Nebraska like got up to the level and then
- 46:27Speaker 1: Nebraska developed a different institutional commitment to winning than it
- 46:32Speaker 1: had previously. You ever heard the all time Bobby Bowden
- 46:35Speaker 1: quote where they went up there and they beat Michigan
- 46:37Speaker 1: and asked them what the difference was. And I have
- 46:40Speaker 1: to find it, but I've been told this. I hope
- 46:42Speaker 1: I'm not totally wrong. But he said, well, our team
- 46:46Speaker 1: has guys named Johnson and Williams. Their team has guys
- 46:51Speaker 1: named Nowinski. Just flat out said it. But you could
- 47:00Speaker 1: look through the 80s, and the 80s is Nebraska playing
- 47:03Speaker 1: Florida schools in bowl games and just getting outrun. And
- 47:08Speaker 1: they were like, no, we're not.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Not anymore.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Not anymore. We have figured out what the problem is.
- 47:14Speaker 1: We're going to we're going to we we got it.
- 47:16Speaker 1: It was very Sam Bam Cunningham ish.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Yes. What the issue is that after a while, all
- 47:22Speaker 2: the other SEC schools woke up to it, too, though,
- 47:25Speaker 2: because it's like like Florida. Not everybody in SEC had
- 47:29Speaker 2: the same commitment to winning. that alabama and florida did
- 47:32Speaker 2: for a time they were ahead of their game and
- 47:35Speaker 2: then you know i mean i always think one of
- 47:37Speaker 2: the landmark recruits that changed it across the south was
- 47:41Speaker 2: uh kevin fault going to lsu that's the beginning yeah
- 47:45Speaker 2: where it's just like lsu is getting the people they
- 47:47Speaker 2: supposed to because they're before war done it's from baton
- 47:49Speaker 2: rouge yes you know i'm saying that's just like today
- 47:53Speaker 2: he would be that's lsu almost.
- 47:55Speaker 1: There's no chance that he goes anywhere else Yeah, yeah.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Is Ed Reed from the Baton Rouge area too?
- 48:02Speaker 1: Ed Reed's from New Orleans. I think he's from La Paz.
- 48:05Speaker 2: La Paz, okay.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Yeah, which I think is more New Orleans than Baton Rouge.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but, I mean, those are guys that should have
- 48:10Speaker 2: been going there. And then eventually, when Kevin Falk went,
- 48:14Speaker 2: and I think Marcus Spears was part of that class,
- 48:16Speaker 2: and he's talking about it.
- 48:16Speaker 1: No, no, no, Marcus Spears is in the 01 class.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Is he in the 01 class?
- 48:19Speaker 1: Yeah, he talks about it. He's a Saban guy. Like,
- 48:21Speaker 1: Saban is to LSU as Mack Brown is to Texas
- 48:25Speaker 1: as being the first coach to be like, hey, man,
- 48:26Speaker 1: we ain't even going to be talking about this. We
- 48:28Speaker 1: going to go get dudes because DiNardo was the first one.
- 48:30Speaker 1: DiNardo is the one that's getting like Booger McFarlane and
- 48:33Speaker 1: Kevin Falk. And for those, I always forget how to
- 48:35Speaker 1: say it. Ed Reed is not from Laplace. He's from,
- 48:38Speaker 1: it starts with a D. Destran.
- 48:40Speaker 2: There we go.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Thank you, Ryan. Ryan had to pop up on that one.
- 48:44Speaker 1: But Kevin Falk, for those who don't know the magnitude
- 48:47Speaker 1: of Kevin Falk as a recruit, Kevin Falk was one
- 48:52Speaker 1: of the top two recruits in the year 1995-1995. along
- 48:55Speaker 1: with Randy Moss. All the articles about Randy Moss as
- 48:57Speaker 1: being the top recruit all have Kevin Falk, who is
- 49:02Speaker 1: from Slidell, I believe, all being referred to. In fact,
- 49:07Speaker 1: that's the Slidell, the home of Jimmy Swagger, which reminds me,
- 49:10Speaker 1: rest in peace, Jim Baker.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Jim Baker, that's right.
- 49:14Speaker 1: There we go. Wow, we just took a rollercoaster ride
- 49:17Speaker 1: through college football history. We took people a lot of places.
- 49:20Speaker 2: We did, man. I mean, you know, the thing is
- 49:22Speaker 2: about us is that, you know, I mean, I enjoy
- 49:25Speaker 2: college football. a lot right now. Like, I mean, I
- 49:28Speaker 2: enjoy Cosplay Balls about as much as I ever did.
- 49:31Speaker 2: But there is something just a little beautiful about when
- 49:35Speaker 2: everybody could start to play against each other. And, you know,
- 49:39Speaker 2: it just expanded the universe of teams that we were
- 49:41Speaker 2: interested in, for one. And, you know, it was just,
- 49:44Speaker 2: you know, man, I don't know. Like, it was tied
- 49:47Speaker 2: so much more to the history of the region and
- 49:50Speaker 2: the state. And now these are like just, you know,
- 49:52Speaker 2: football teams, they're still regional. The state folks still root
- 49:56Speaker 2: for Florida. They root for LSU. But it's just different. Like,
- 49:59Speaker 2: guys are coming from different places. There's not, you know,
- 50:01Speaker 2: the same sort of local attachment that there used to be.
- 50:03Speaker 1: I will say I feel like the one thing that
- 50:05Speaker 1: we're losing that I really don't like is the thought
- 50:08Speaker 1: of us losing it is because of the money. and
- 50:13Speaker 1: I'm obviously not blaming anybody who would do this, but
- 50:17Speaker 1: me and Dominique were talking about this. Do you remember
- 50:20Speaker 1: when Ohio State played against Buffalo in their first game
- 50:25Speaker 1: one year?
- 50:25Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 50:26Speaker 1: In 2013.
- 50:27Speaker 2: When they had to find out who to find.
- 50:28Speaker 1: And we were like, who is this guy? And it
- 50:30Speaker 1: was Khalil Mack, and he was just wrecking shop.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Can you imagine? They just never expected that game to
- 50:38Speaker 2: be that kind of hard.
- 50:39Speaker 1: But you know what, though? I guarantee that there was
- 50:42Speaker 1: somebody at Ohio State's coaching staff that was watching the
- 50:45Speaker 1: film like, hey. But he couldn't explain it to them.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:50Speaker 1: He ain't going to do that to me. And then
- 50:52Speaker 1: he came out there and he was destroying. That's over now.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Because that guy is transferring. When I did the Chambliss piece,
- 50:59Speaker 1: I talked to his coach, Tony Anise at Ferris State.
- 51:02Speaker 1: And he's like, man, I lost seven, eight, nine dudes
- 51:05Speaker 1: off my team last year. Like they're just feeder systems.
- 51:08Speaker 1: So there's something to be said about when you have
- 51:10Speaker 1: a team and maybe it's an eight win team. But man,
- 51:12Speaker 1: they got that guy. Yeah. Ain't a lot of teams.
- 51:16Speaker 1: That's not going to happen so much anymore.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Yeah, like the Noah Fafita thing. Like, he's been playing
- 51:20Speaker 2: in Arizona for, you know, it seems like, you know,
- 51:23Speaker 2: Trunk Candidate was his running back. But he's been there
- 51:26Speaker 2: for a while. But, yeah, that's just not going to
- 51:28Speaker 2: be a thing because you're going to always have to
- 51:30Speaker 2: fend off. Like JKS, we're going to see it at
- 51:33Speaker 2: Cal this year. Now, he's going to have to leave
- 51:35Speaker 2: Cal for a bunch of reasons. But even if everything
- 51:38Speaker 2: had mostly gone right up there with the new head coach.
- 51:42Speaker 2: And it is not. I mean, bro, I mean, they've
- 51:45Speaker 2: already changed play callers, man. We just out of the
- 51:47Speaker 2: first month of the season. Okay. They've already changed play callers.
- 51:52Speaker 2: They were going to have to fight to keep that boy.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Like no matter what, even if he had had a
- 51:56Speaker 2: great year, Cal was going to struggle to keep that kid.
- 51:59Speaker 2: And I mean, it's even kind of funny because Mississippi
- 52:02Speaker 2: state is in the sec, but you heard what Nick
- 52:05Speaker 2: Saban said about Camario Taylor. He's a right now. I'm
- 52:08Speaker 2: in Alabama. I'll be trying to get him to go
- 52:10Speaker 2: into portal right now. And maybe Camario is committed to
- 52:14Speaker 2: Mississippi State as he says he is. But he's going
- 52:18Speaker 2: to have to turn about, what, $ 10, $ 11 million? Where
- 52:21Speaker 2: are they.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Going to get the money from? The Mississippi State question is,
- 52:25Speaker 1: where are we going to get the money from?
- 52:26Speaker 2: Yeah, man. Right?
- 52:29Speaker 1: Speaking of similar things, how many more years do you
- 52:32Speaker 1: think your boy got at Colorado?
- 52:37Speaker 2: Oh, man, you know what?
- 52:40Speaker 1: Um.
- 52:42Speaker 1: I was like, before you get started, you tell me
- 52:45Speaker 1: if I don't want to, I don't want to lead
- 52:46Speaker 1: you all the way down the road, but I think
- 52:49Speaker 1: we're just counting down the days. I mean, if the
- 52:51Speaker 1: day may be this year, I don't know, but I mean,
- 52:53Speaker 1: this isn't going to work. That's, that's how I feel
- 52:56Speaker 1: is that this is, this is not going to work.
- 52:58Speaker 2: I definitely think it's not going to work. I think
- 53:00Speaker 2: it's not going to work for a couple reasons. He
- 53:03Speaker 2: hasn't covered himself in glory. He doesn't have a special
- 53:06Speaker 2: teams coordinator. How?
- 53:08Speaker 1: How?
- 53:09Speaker 2: They got the money. Why not?
- 53:12Speaker 1: I've never heard of a team in modern times not
- 53:15Speaker 1: having a special teams coordinator.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Why would you not do that?
- 53:18Speaker 1: That's a job we have to fill.
- 53:21Speaker 2: I mean, seriously.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Who's doing that? And that's why they was out there
- 53:24Speaker 1: with eight dudes.
- 53:25Speaker 2: Eight people last week, man.
- 53:26Speaker 1: And then what happened after they called timeout because they
- 53:28Speaker 1: had eight?
- 53:29Speaker 2: I mean.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Tell them what happened after they called timeout. You saw
- 53:32Speaker 1: what happened after they called a timeout. They had eight
- 53:34Speaker 1: people on the field for a field goal block, so
- 53:36Speaker 1: they had to call a timeout.
- 53:37Speaker 2: And then they went out on the field again with
- 53:39Speaker 2: the wrong number of people, right? Nine, yeah, right.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Who were these other two people? Is it the dudes
- 53:44Speaker 1: that he kicked off the team for laughing?
- 53:46Speaker 2: I mean, seriously, he fouled out. He was like, oh, shit,
- 53:49Speaker 2: that guy ain't here no more. Oh, my bad. I mean,
- 53:53Speaker 2: it's just so sloppy. And there's nothing identifiable about any
- 53:59Speaker 2: Deion team. Like, Travis Hunter and Shadur covered up a
- 54:03Speaker 2: lot of flaws within that program, right? That's how good
- 54:06Speaker 2: the players they are. I know people can shit on
- 54:08Speaker 2: Shadur now, but he was a very good college quarterback.
- 54:10Speaker 1: But.
- 54:11Speaker 2: They didn't really figure out a system. He didn't figure
- 54:14Speaker 2: out a counterpunch after everybody else realized, oh, you can
- 54:17Speaker 2: take 80 or 90 recruits and nobody going to say
- 54:20Speaker 2: nothing anymore. Like, that's just how we do business now.
- 54:22Speaker 2: When Deion did it, it was novel, and he took
- 54:24Speaker 2: on some criticism for it. But then everybody was like, oh, yeah,
- 54:28Speaker 2: we can just turn over our roster in one year.
- 54:29Speaker 2: So he didn't have a counterpunch after anybody figured that out.
- 54:32Speaker 2: But my other thing is that, man, everybody fails at
- 54:35Speaker 2: Colorado now. That's not a good job anymore.
- 54:37Speaker 1: No, it was.
- 54:39Speaker 1: He was in a position when they were in the
- 54:42Speaker 1: Big 12 and before the money really got rolling that
- 54:46Speaker 1: the presence of Deion Sanders gave them a comparative advantage. Yes.
- 54:52Speaker 1: And that comparative advantage is gone. I want to be
- 54:55Speaker 1: clear about this part. This is not just about him.
- 54:58Speaker 1: These dudes are going to have to start coaching. Like,
- 55:01Speaker 1: the I magically get players guy?
- 55:04Speaker 3: Oh.
- 55:04Speaker 1: That ain't it no more, man. You're going to have
- 55:06Speaker 1: to get out of here and coach.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Well, the thing is, yeah, so they've pretty much made
- 55:11Speaker 2: the recruiter obsolete. Yeah. Like, the Cal thing, which is interesting,
- 55:16Speaker 2: Tosh Lapoi, he was known as a recruiter. And so
- 55:21Speaker 2: it's like, we got a GM for that. Like, we
- 55:24Speaker 2: spend money. Like, you don't have to do that anymore.
- 55:27Speaker 2: And so, yeah, so, like, if you get talent... you're
- 55:31Speaker 2: going to have to be able to do something with it.
- 55:33Speaker 2: And I just don't, I mean, Dion, man, they've just, again,
- 55:36Speaker 2: no consistency on offense. They've never really had a good defense, bro.
- 55:40Speaker 2: This is the thing. And I know this is your dog,
- 55:43Speaker 2: but I got it. He had one sap around children, bro.
- 55:46Speaker 1: I was like, whenever you start there, you probably either
- 55:49Speaker 1: didn't need to say that or said, well, what's coming next?
- 55:51Speaker 1: You can pick the other one. But that being said,
- 55:53Speaker 1: I was very surprised that Warren got that job. On
- 55:56Speaker 1: one hand, I wasn't surprised because I think at actually coaching,
- 55:59Speaker 1: Warren would be excellent.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 56:02Speaker 1: But I would not have expected that he could get
- 56:03Speaker 1: him passed. I mean, for what it's worth, they got
- 56:08Speaker 1: Marshall Falk passed, those people too, who left that NFL
- 56:10Speaker 1: network job under not great circumstances. And now he's failing
- 56:15Speaker 1: miserably at Southern, and he's got one of the same
- 56:18Speaker 1: problems Deion got. Can't take nobody questioning him.
- 56:21Speaker 2: Yeah, man. I mean, it's just, they didn't, I think
- 56:25Speaker 2: they skipped the line. They didn't have to go learn
- 56:27Speaker 2: the hard way. Man, being an assistant and having an
- 56:31Speaker 2: idea for what you could do but not the idea
- 56:34Speaker 2: is humbling. And you learn to work with a whole
- 56:36Speaker 2: bunch of other people, and you also develop a lot
- 56:39Speaker 2: of different ways to teach, a philosophy. You come up
- 56:42Speaker 2: with that. Marshall Fogg didn't have no time to do that, man.
- 56:45Speaker 2: He's learning it all. This is the first time he's
- 56:47Speaker 2: doing all this stuff, which is why, I mean... southern
- 56:50Speaker 2: is good enough i don't think they had to do
- 56:51Speaker 2: that um.
- 56:54Speaker 1: And tennessee state did it with eddie george and it
- 56:57Speaker 1: was very successful and turned out he's and eddie george
- 56:59Speaker 1: is now coaching at bowling green but he did it
- 57:02Speaker 1: there and it worked i think for those schools where
- 57:07Speaker 1: the money isn't the draw as much anymore the idea
- 57:11Speaker 1: of he can get us some guys, or he can
- 57:13Speaker 1: get some people to give us some money.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 57:17Speaker 1: You know, like, I see why you make the call
- 57:19Speaker 1: to make the decision that that's what you're going to do.
- 57:22Speaker 1: I don't know nearly as much about the talent pool
- 57:24Speaker 1: from which they are dealing with, you know, getting coaching,
- 57:27Speaker 1: coaches at that level. I don't, I feel like it's
- 57:29Speaker 1: not too dissimilar to, like, the university president rotation above
- 57:33Speaker 1: black colleges, right, where you just gotta sit there, everybody
- 57:37Speaker 1: kinda sit around a carousel in some form or fashion,
- 57:40Speaker 1: but For Colorado, you're right. It's not a great job.
- 57:44Speaker 1: You and I grew up at an anomalous time in
- 57:47Speaker 1: the history of college football where Colorado was a power. Again,
- 57:52Speaker 1: Big A recruiting standards and California schools kind of being down.
- 57:57Speaker 1: And what they could offer, there was the rare time
- 58:00Speaker 1: where one of your benefits that you could offer is being,
- 58:04Speaker 1: Nebraska did this too, we are far from you. And
- 58:08Speaker 1: that was a positive.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there was a different time.
- 58:11Speaker 1: We trying to help get that boy away from bad influences.
- 58:15Speaker 2: I gotta get out of town.
- 58:17Speaker 1: But of course, what they wind up doing is what happens,
- 58:19Speaker 1: I've seen this talked about in New York, where like,
- 58:22Speaker 1: Somebody got to ain't a sister or whatever, and she
- 58:25Speaker 1: moved to Westchester or out of, you know, upstate or
- 58:28Speaker 1: whatever it is. And so you decide to send your
- 58:31Speaker 1: kid to go live with his auntie because you want
- 58:34Speaker 1: to give him a better, you know, situation, get him
- 58:36Speaker 1: out of trouble or whatever it is. But the problem
- 58:38Speaker 1: is you're not the only person that got this bright idea.
- 58:41Speaker 1: And so what happens is all them boys get up
- 58:44Speaker 1: there hanging out with each other. right right they squad
- 58:48Speaker 1: up and that's the same thing that's how that was
- 58:50Speaker 1: happening with these cats they get there they're like finally
- 58:54Speaker 1: it's somebody speaking my language.
- 58:56Speaker 2: There's some i mean it's crazy too that like eric
- 58:58Speaker 2: b enemy was like at the center you know what
- 59:00Speaker 2: i mean like eric b enemy man he was a
- 59:03Speaker 2: husband you know i don't think he was a finalist
- 59:05Speaker 2: yeah he was a finalist he was cold man and
- 59:08Speaker 2: it was like, yeah, Colorado got dudes from Houston.
- 59:11Speaker 1: They got Davis McGee and Alfred Williams.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 59:15Speaker 1: And that gets in line with what we were talking
- 59:17Speaker 1: about with Texas. When the rate, the racism issue at
- 59:21Speaker 1: Texas consensued well into the 1990s.
- 59:25Speaker 2: Absolutely. Well, do you know where the best player often?
- 59:30Speaker 2: I had forgotten this and I was reminded of it
- 59:33Speaker 2: when he died very recently. The the best player on
- 59:37Speaker 2: 1985 Yates. Do you know where he went?
- 59:40Speaker 1: Are we not? Are you talking about Johnny Bailey?
- 59:42Speaker 2: No, I'm not talking about Johnny Bailey. I'm talking about
- 59:44Speaker 2: Melvin Foster.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Oh, I'm not up on him. Johnny Bailey and Santana
- 59:47Speaker 1: Dotson were the two names that I, like, jumped out. Now,
- 59:50Speaker 1: Dotson was the young guy, but go ahead.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Melvin Foster, I think, was the best recruit in the
- 59:54Speaker 2: state for sure that year, and he was one of
- 59:56Speaker 2: the top in the country. 1985 Yates, one of the
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: best high school football teams ever. in Texas football history,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: and it was the first all-black state champion, right? But
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: they produced several pros, like Bomani said, Johnny Bailey, Santana Dodson.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: But Melvin Foster was the number one ranked recruit. He
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: went to Iowa. He signed with Iowa in 1985. And
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: so it's like, you skipped Texas for Iowa?
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Well, I know Johnny Bailey wasn't that big, but do
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: you remember where he went?
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: A & M Kingsville, right?
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Texas A & M. Well, now it's A &
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: M Kingsville. It was A & I. Texas A & I.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Also where Daryl Green went.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Yep. I mean, Santana Johnson went to Baylor. Michael Singletary
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: went to Baylor because he's a worthing product. You know
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: what I'm saying? None of your favorite guys that came
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: up out of the cities of Houston and Dallas really
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: went to Texas like that until, you say, Matt Brown
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: got there.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Now, it's not quite like Mississippi where none of the
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: best players in the history of the state of Mississippi,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: even the white boys, none of them went to the
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: best quarterback ever. The best quarterback in the history of
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: the state of Mississippi is Brett Favre, who did not
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: go to Ole Miss or Mississippi State. The best running
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: back in the history of the state of Mississippi is
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Walter Payton, who did not go to Ole Miss or
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: Mississippi State. The best receiver, quite possibly the greatest football
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: player who ever lived, is Jerry Rice, who did not
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: go to Ole Miss or Mississippi State. They were so
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: dedicated to that sizzle.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: I mean, man.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: The Mississippi State people will tell you they offered Rice,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: but they was running the bones. Um, that is, that
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: is what they'll tell you. I would stop running the bone.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Well, I mean, look, man, Steve McNair. I mean, they
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: would try to make him a defensive back. Yup. Like,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: why would, why, why would you do that? Did you
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: see his tape? Did you not watch his tape?
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: It would be like an amazing skit to write. It's
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: like take it back to the 1960s and somebody walking
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: into Archie Madden's house and being like, well, son, you
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: ever tried to run backwards? Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: You got to look at that, huh?
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I mean, man, you got good feet. You know? You
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: got good feet. But the thing I would do want
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: to say about Colorado real quick is that there's only
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: been one coach– In this century, there that has not
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: gotten fired or left with a lose. Well, he did
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: leave with a losing record. Tucker. The only guy that
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: has ever gotten out of there without getting fired. Mel Tucker.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: And he left after a 5-7 season. That's how people
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: think of the Colorado job.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: 5-7 got him Michigan State.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Yeah, man. That's what people think of that job. And
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: so it may be true that Deion may not be
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: a good coach, but how will we know? Because nobody
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: has been able to succeed at Colorado right now.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: They never got up off the ground after that scandal, really.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: No, man. And actually, if you look at Gary Barnett's years,
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: they were okay.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Yeah, they still had something going. It went from McCartney
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: to Neuheisel to Barnett. Like, they kept it going for
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: multiple coaches after the fact.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. But the Barnett thing just sort of broke them. Well,
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: they lost 70-3.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: In the 2005 Big 12 championship game. That's right. And
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: those 70 were scored in three quarters.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: They could have easily put up 100 points on them
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: in that game. Vince in Houston in the conference championship game.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I mean, easily put up 100 isn't much, but 100
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: was on the board.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Yeah, man. I mean, I think Joel Klatt talks about it.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: I think he got knocked out of that game.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: He did.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Yeah, he did.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: I didn't bother to learn his name at the time.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I learned that retroactively. It didn't matter who was out there.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, clearly it did not matter. I mean,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: three points.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: That was destruction. But we got our man, Joe Oil.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Why are you pointing at me?
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: I got to say one thing, because I didn't say
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: it on the tailgate, so I got to say it here.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: RIP Coach Franchione, man.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: RIP.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: He just passed on Tuesday at the age of 75.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Coach P gets most of the credit, and deservedly so,
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: for making TCU basically a miracle program, saving them from
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: the hinterlands of college football, because that's where we were
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: headed when I got there. And when Coach Franchione took over,
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: he saw something at TCU that nobody else could see.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: And I mean, of course, he was coming from New Mexico.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: So it ain't like he you know, that was a
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: better job. He was better job in Mexico. But he
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: saw something that people did not see. And in that
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: first year, you know, we beat USC and the Sun Bowl.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: And it really the program has never really been the
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: same since. So I know that, you know, does A &
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: M fans feel a certain way about him? Bama fans
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: feel a certain way about him. But for TCU, man, he's,
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: I mean, there's not very many people in the history
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: of that program that are more important than him.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: And I will say this about Alabama fans and how
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: they feel. For those of you who don't know, Dennis Franchione,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: is the last man to look at Alabama and say,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: save yourself. Franchoni came in there. I think one of
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: the things with Franchoni was that they didn't tell the
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: truth about what the sanctions were going to be. He
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: got in there. He gave it one year.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: I was like, I'm blowing this pop stand.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: Yeah, man. Yeah.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: I mean, look, man. And also, I don't think he
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: was used to living in that kind of a fishbowl.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: No, no. People just don't understand. They still don't get it, Joel. DeBoer, again, DeBoer, who's,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: by the way, maybe the greatest road game coach that's
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: ever lived. My man R.J. Young did a thing on
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: his show about how playing on the road, even at Alabama,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: DeBoer has been excellent at that. You guys don't know it.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: It's a terrible, miserable job. And Fred Jody was like, oh, no, no, no.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: I'll go to A & M.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I'll go anywhere else. Anywhere else.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: He got out before anybody threw a brick through his window.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: There's that. There is that.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Alabama boy, that's what they do. My man, I appreciate it. Joe,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: I say, Joe Landerson, check him out. Wrangler tailgate, press box.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I still got to read the thing that you wrote
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: about the Tupac thing because Joe got this bad habit.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: Joe don't send the homies no links. I'd be like, yo,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: where's the thing? You know, you're going to do the
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: thing or whatever. Joe don't never, Joe get done with anything.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: He ain't never going to tell us. He a little
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: too modest in that regard.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: I appreciate you saying that. I just, yeah, I need
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: to do it. I need to share it. You're right.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: My bad.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Appreciate you, homie.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: Appreciate you, man.
