• 2:26
Speaker 4: I want to get to as well, but first I
• 2:28
Speaker 4: want to talk about an event that's going to be
• 2:30
Speaker 4: happening soon. I think it's one week from tomorrow. It's
• 2:32
Speaker 4: called Prepped and Polished. All kinds of things going on
• 2:35
Speaker 4: associated with this event in July the fifteenth from ten.
• 2:39
Speaker 4: Is that is that the right date?
• 2:41
Speaker 6: Well, it's the fourteen, fourteenth fifteen.
• 2:43
Speaker 4: It's a two day event, all right. So I was
• 2:44
Speaker 4: partially right, you were. It's the voice that you hear
• 2:47
Speaker 4: is Andy Richardson. So again, this is a two day event.
• 2:50
Speaker 4: Tendal two on the Mound on D Street in South
• 2:55
Speaker 4: Charles and Eddy Richardson is with the Executive Director of
• 2:59
Speaker 4: Workforce Devel a Board of Kanah County Correct do get
• 3:01
  Speaker 4: you tired?
• 3:02
  Speaker 2: All right?
• 3:02
Speaker 4: Andy Richardson is here, all right, Good morning, Welcome to
• 3:05
Speaker 4: the shiit In morning, Dave. Good to be here for
• 3:06
Speaker 4: a while. Since you been here, yeah too long? Yeah, well,
• 3:09
Speaker 4: welcome to our new home.
• 3:10
  Speaker 2: It's beautiful, beautiful.
• 3:12
Speaker 4: So let's tell us about this event. What's going on?
• 3:16
Speaker 6: Every year, the Workforce program here in Kanawha County has
• 3:21
Speaker 6: a program we call Prepped and Polished at Americans Americans
• 3:28
Speaker 6: Job Center over on Leon Sullivan Way. We have a
• 3:31
Speaker 6: number of different partners so to help people with barriers
• 3:35
Speaker 6: to employment, if they need clothing or counseling, or have
• 3:41
Speaker 6: veteran issues or whatever, we have services there. But next
• 3:46
Speaker 6: week we're taking this type of program out into the
• 3:50
Speaker 6: community and we'll be down in South Charleston And on Monday,
• 3:54
Speaker 6: July fourteenth, Prepped and Polished will be occurring around the mound, right,
• 4:02
Speaker 6: and you will have everything from resume building and mock
• 4:06
Speaker 6: interviews to men's and women's haircuts and healthcare and things
• 4:10
Speaker 6: like that. And then on Tuesday down at the Community
• 4:15
Speaker 6: Center South Charleston again, now we'll have a speed hiring event,
• 4:22
Speaker 6: so sort of like a speed dating event. I guess
• 4:24
Speaker 6: where you go from station to station and talk to
• 4:27
Speaker 6: people and there'll be some people that get some jobs.
• 4:31
Speaker 6: But it's a way to take to the community the
• 4:33
Speaker 6: opportunity for people to get cleaned up, get a good,
• 4:39
Speaker 6: better resume, test drive their interviewing skills, all that on Monday,
• 4:47
Speaker 6: and then on Tuesday it'll be an opportunity for employers
• 4:51
  Speaker 6: to hire.
• 4:51
Speaker 4: So Monday's kind of like the as you said, it's
• 4:56
Speaker 4: almost like the pregame show, right, you know, it's to
• 4:58
  Speaker 4: get people ready.
• 4:59
Speaker 6: Yeah, when we call u this prepped and polished. We've
• 5:01
Speaker 6: done it the past few years now. We've done it
• 5:05
Speaker 6: in our offices up at Leon Sullivan Way. We've also
• 5:07
Speaker 6: done it down in Saint Albans. This year, we're going
• 5:09
Speaker 6: to do it in South Charleston. It's an annual event
• 5:12
Speaker 6: and it's very well received and there'll be opportunities there
• 5:17
Speaker 6: if you have to come and bring your children. There'll
• 5:20
Speaker 6: be you know, bounce house and inflatables things like that
• 5:24
Speaker 6: for them to do.
• 5:25
Speaker 4: All right again with Andy Richardson about this two day
• 5:27
Speaker 4: event in South Charleston, and Day one's going to be
• 5:29
Speaker 4: there on the mound and then on Tuesday of next
• 5:33
Speaker 4: week and we'll move over to the community center. Can
• 5:36
Speaker 4: you give us an idea of let's start with Monday
• 5:39
Speaker 4: and the different things you mentioned haircuts and things of that. Mate,
• 5:42
Speaker 4: you give us some other things going on on Monday.
• 5:45
Speaker 6: Clothing with you know, some styling tips.
• 5:48
Speaker 4: Which lord knows I could use that same.
• 5:53
Speaker 6: Dental care, other healthcare services, manicures. We want people. There's
• 5:58
Speaker 6: a reason we call it and polished because we want
• 6:02
Speaker 6: you to be to look sharp, be sharp for your
• 6:06
Speaker 6: job interviews on Tuesday. So that's an appearance thing, and
• 6:10
Speaker 6: it's also resume building. It's also mock interviews, so you're
• 6:15
Speaker 6: going to get a little bit of both of those
• 6:17
Speaker 6: types of skills and personal presentation improvements on Monday, so
• 6:25
Speaker 6: that on Tuesday when you go in and start talking
• 6:28
Speaker 6: to potential employers, you're looking sharp.
• 6:32
Speaker 4: Ready to go. Who's just designed for as far as
• 6:36
Speaker 4: the potential job seekers, who ideally are you looking for,
• 6:40
  Speaker 4: well a hard.
• 6:42
Speaker 6: To serve population, it's I mean, well, first of all, anybody, right,
• 6:47
Speaker 6: but some of these soft skill and preparation activities on
• 6:55
Speaker 6: Monday are probably more for people who haven't been into
• 6:59
Speaker 6: the job mark or haven't known how to search for
• 7:02
Speaker 6: work well and have become discouraged. Maybe they've had you know,
• 7:07
Speaker 6: issues with addiction or other ancillary problems in life with
• 7:12
Speaker 6: homelessness or or you know, chronic unemployment whatever, and so
• 7:22
Speaker 6: this is a hard to serve population. But on the
• 7:26
Speaker 6: other hand, anyone can go and have an opportunity to
• 7:31
Speaker 6: participate and get cleaned up and maybe get some clothes
• 7:35
Speaker 6: that help them look better at an interview and things
• 7:38
  Speaker 6: like that.
• 7:38
Speaker 4: Are there fees involved, No, this is all free, all free.
• 7:41
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 7:42
Speaker 6: And there'll be some vendors there that set up tents
• 7:44
Speaker 6: and you know offer I said, vendors. Community services will
• 7:51
Speaker 6: be a president that will you know, provide information things like.
• 7:54
Speaker 4: That it's a nine to fifteen day violand showing five
• 7:57
Speaker 4: any line brought to you in apart by your hometown
• 7:59
Speaker 4: baseball achieved Charleston Dirty Birds often night tonight for the
• 8:02
Speaker 4: Birds that begin a three game road series against Gastonia
• 8:04
Speaker 4: tomorrow night, backing home this Friday night at gomart Ballpark.
• 8:07
Speaker 4: For tickets, schedules, merchandise, gear promotions, and more, visit dirtybirds
• 8:11
Speaker 4: baseball dot com. So if somebody wants to be a
• 8:17
Speaker 4: I don't really use the term vendor, but somebody wants
• 8:20
Speaker 4: to come in and do one of these services, not
• 8:21
Speaker 4: them to do. I'm talking about hairstyling. Thing that do
• 8:24
Speaker 4: you still need people to do? Is are you have
• 8:25
  Speaker 4: any any holds?
• 8:26
Speaker 6: We're lining folks up. But if people want to participate,
• 8:29
Speaker 6: they can call our office. It's three oh four three
• 8:32
Speaker 6: four four five seven six zero, indicate that that's what
• 8:37
Speaker 6: you're interested in talking about is prepped and polished, and
• 8:42
Speaker 6: you can well, our front desk will connect you with
• 8:46
Speaker 6: one of the people that's involved in planning the event.
• 8:49
Speaker 4: I would think it probably takes a lot of people
• 8:51
Speaker 4: ady to pull this thing off.
• 8:53
Speaker 6: You know, we're pretty efficient over there, but uh, you know,
• 8:59
Speaker 6: it's you've got a steer, not row and get people
• 9:03
Speaker 6: involved and bring them together. And Michael Austin to Mary
• 9:07
Speaker 6: Lee really do a great job of kind of leading
• 9:10
Speaker 6: this type of initiate initiative. So you're right, it does
• 9:15
Speaker 6: take a lot of people. But it's actually almost like
• 9:18
  Speaker 6: they're conducting a band.
• 9:20
Speaker 4: Okay, it's a good way to put it. Let's fast
• 9:23
Speaker 4: forward to Tuesday now the event at the at the
• 9:25
Speaker 4: South Charleston Community. So how many vendors or how many
• 9:28
Speaker 4: employers potential employers to have approximately?
• 9:30
Speaker 6: I do not have a number on how many will
• 9:32
Speaker 6: be there, but we're still welcoming ocasional employers. Again, it's
• 9:37
Speaker 6: three zero four three for four five seven six zero.
• 9:41
Speaker 6: If you're interested in participating the speed hiring event, you'll
• 9:45
Speaker 6: go in with the resume that you learn how to
• 9:47
Speaker 6: prepare the day before. And you know, one of the
• 9:50
Speaker 6: things we've got on Monday also is some legal services
• 9:55
Speaker 6: like a driver license reinstatement, expungement, records, things like that.
• 10:02
Speaker 6: Those types of things may be relevant for you on
• 10:05
Speaker 6: Tuesday as well. So you go in on Tuesday and
• 10:09
Speaker 6: you will literally go from station to station and present yourself.
• 10:14
Speaker 6: You're you're you're selling yourself right in a job interview, uh,
• 10:19
Speaker 6: And there will be people hired uh frequently sometimes it
• 10:23
Speaker 6: happens right there on the spot. Sometimes they're they're callbacks,
• 10:27
Speaker 6: things like that, right.
• 10:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, And so again, if you're owner of a company,
• 10:32
Speaker 4: manager of a company right now, and we all know
• 10:34
Speaker 4: about workforce in West Virginia, I mean that our participation
• 10:39
Speaker 4: is not as good as what it should be. But
• 10:40
Speaker 4: sometimes there are barriers, as you mentioned, that keep people.
• 10:43
Speaker 4: That's what we're doing this, and I guess the whole
• 10:45
Speaker 4: idea behind this is to kind of strike down some
• 10:47
Speaker 4: of those barriers, Andy.
• 10:48
Speaker 6: Break down barriers and help people find their future.
• 10:52
Speaker 4: And I mean we have major employers, smaller employers, a
• 10:55
Speaker 4: little bit of everything there, right, that's right, yes, uh.
• 10:59
Speaker 4: And again the number if because I know a lot
• 11:00
Speaker 4: of business owners may be listening right now. They may say, well,
• 11:03
Speaker 4: I definitely got to get there.
• 11:05
Speaker 6: Three zero four three four four five seven six zero
• 11:10
Speaker 6: and prepped and polished is the event. If you're interested
• 11:14
Speaker 6: in being one of the employers with a speed hiring
• 11:19
Speaker 6: on July fifteen at the South Charleston Community Center, give
• 11:24
Speaker 6: us a call three oh four, three four four five
• 11:27
  Speaker 6: seven six zero.
• 11:28
Speaker 4: And I've got on my social media on Dave Allen
• 11:31

• 15:48
Speaker 4: Carl Lee, which we also put on the air as well,
• 15:51
Speaker 4: you need to. It's Carl Lee, a former NFL star,
• 15:54
Speaker 4: Marshall's standout South Charleston Black Eagle. Carl does a show
• 15:58
Speaker 4: along with Hollis Lewis and Lisa Odie. One of the
• 16:00
Speaker 4: hottest podcasts out there. One of the folks that's on
• 16:03
Speaker 4: that's on that podcast, Lisa Odie, is going to join
• 16:05
Speaker 4: us on the show coming up tomorrow. I've I've been
• 16:09
Speaker 4: having former Charles to me or Danny Jones on the
• 16:11
Speaker 4: show on Mondays from time to time. Danny is is
• 16:14
Speaker 4: not feeling well. I'll talk to him yesterday and he
• 16:17
Speaker 4: could probably use some cheering up with some health issues
• 16:19
Speaker 4: he's got going on right now. So if you know Danny,
• 16:21
Speaker 4: reach out to him, he could probably use it. I
• 16:23
Speaker 4: hope to have him back on the show with me
• 16:25
Speaker 4: sometime over the next couple of weeks. Last week on Midday,
• 16:30
Speaker 4: we had the acting director of the West Virginia Lottery,
• 16:33
Speaker 4: David Bradley, on the show. It was an interesting conversation
• 16:36
Speaker 4: and one of the things that came out of it
• 16:38
Speaker 4: there are not one, but two millionaires out there. Somewhere
• 16:42
Speaker 4: in the Canal Valley. There were two separate million dollar
• 16:45
Speaker 4: powerball tickets sold and no one has come forward to
• 16:49
Speaker 4: claim the money. One ticket was sold at the Palmar
• 16:53
Speaker 4: Store in downtown Hurricane, the other one at Marty Gracasino
• 16:56
Speaker 4: and Resort. So if you bought a powerball ticket at
• 16:59
Speaker 4: either one of those places, you may want to check
• 17:01
Speaker 4: your tickets because you are a millionaire. Well actually two
• 17:04
Speaker 4: of you are, so uh so go claim your tickets.
• 17:08
Speaker 4: It's like it. I mean, here's the thing about it.
• 17:11
Speaker 4: If I had I and I'm not a big lottery player,
• 17:13
Speaker 4: but if I had I bought a powerball ticket at
• 17:15
Speaker 4: one of those two locations and I heard that there
• 17:18
Speaker 4: was a million dollar winner, I probably would have checked
• 17:21
Speaker 4: my tickets. And if you don't claim it, it's going
• 17:24
Speaker 4: to go back. I mean. And so somebody one of
• 17:27
Speaker 4: those locations, the Parmar Store in a Hurricane. It's the
• 17:30
Speaker 4: I think it's the downtown Hurricane location just next to
• 17:33
Speaker 4: the church, and the other one at Marty Grond Casino
• 17:35
Speaker 4: in Resort. There's two different one million dollar winners floating
• 17:39
Speaker 4: around out there somewhere. So go claim your tickets, all right,
• 17:42
Speaker 4: and then remember your cousin Dave and cousin Ryan and
• 17:46
Speaker 4: cousin Amy. Uh nine to twenty five a Dave Island

• 18:07
  Speaker 4: How you doing?
• 18:08
Speaker 3: Good morning, I'm good. That's the voice, you know what
• 18:11
Speaker 3: it comes and goes. I don't know why that is.
• 18:14
Speaker 4: Can you do a total eclipse of the harden force?
• 18:16
Speaker 4: I mean you got to kind of get that. Bonnie Tyler.
• 18:21
Speaker 3: Promise, Mom, I haven't had any cigarettes.
• 18:25
Speaker 4: Well, the last couple days would be a good day
• 18:26
Speaker 4: to start start for the stress relieving.
• 18:29
Speaker 3: This is already my second cup, big cup of coffee.
• 18:33
  Speaker 3: I hardly I hate to call it a cup. It's
• 18:35
  Speaker 3: not a cup.
• 18:36
  Speaker 4: It's like a vact it's a bucket.
• 18:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a bucket, a bucket of But all.
• 18:41
Speaker 4: Right, so uh overall, and we'll break down things specifically.
• 18:44
Speaker 4: And by the way, we're not just going to talk
• 18:45
Speaker 4: for God, because this is your regularly schedule visit anyway.
• 18:48
Speaker 4: So if you've got questions, comments or concerns, and we
• 18:51
Speaker 4: got several things going on to Charleston, we just wrapped
• 18:53
Speaker 4: up for God. We get TBT coming here real soon.

• 19:06
Speaker 4: No one would have blamed you though, had you slip
• 19:08
  Speaker 4: in this morning.
• 19:08
Speaker 3: Just letting you know, well, I will say I will
• 19:11
Speaker 3: say this, and I will give all the all the
• 19:13
Speaker 3: credit and all the praise. I wasn't the first one up.
• 19:16
Speaker 3: I was up early. I'm an early riser as you
• 19:19
Speaker 3: will know. But we had crews working all through the night.
• 19:23
Speaker 3: That's not an exaggeration. And when I left this morning downtown,
• 19:30
Speaker 3: I literally said, I'm going to do Dave's show and
• 19:32
Speaker 3: I will be right back because people are frantically working
• 19:35
Speaker 3: you out. It's kind of the equivalent of when you
• 19:39
Speaker 3: decorate for the holidays. You know, I like to go
• 19:41
Speaker 3: all out. All that is so beautiful and it's a
• 19:43
Speaker 3: lot of work, but you enjoy it right because it's
• 19:45
Speaker 3: going up and it's pretty and shiny and fresh, and
• 19:48
  Speaker 3: when you're taking it down, you're like, I'm exhausted. I
• 19:51
Speaker 3: don't want to do this, but I cannot speak enough
• 19:56
Speaker 3: and I'm not sure that there is another unique model. Dave.
• 20:00
Speaker 3: Kind of the way that the Charleston's General Regatta model
• 20:03
Speaker 3: is set up such amazing support from obviously the City
• 20:07
Speaker 3: of Charleston. We run it, but with the Regatta Commission
• 20:11
Speaker 3: advising us. We couldn't do this without the Kenaw County Commission.
• 20:14
Speaker 3: I mean, it's so strange that you have to And
• 20:17
Speaker 3: I say strange only is unique maybe is a better word?
• 20:20
Speaker 3: Is that we have two county governments that are dialed
• 20:23
Speaker 3: into this. When I first went to Ben and Silanga
• 20:25
Speaker 3: and said, hey, if we're going to do this, and
• 20:27
Speaker 3: especially especially things free for the kids. It was you
• 20:32
Speaker 3: know him, been game on what you want. So it
• 20:37
Speaker 3: has been absolutely incredible. Our city employees have worked and
• 20:41
Speaker 3: remember this is a holiday. Everybody else has taken people
• 20:44
Speaker 3: at pools with their kids and backyard barbecue or doing
• 20:48
Speaker 3: the Honeydeo list. Not our guys and gals full force.
• 20:51
Speaker 3: We take a lot of pride in what we do, so,
• 20:54
Speaker 3: as I love to say on stage, I'm one of
• 20:56
Speaker 3: seven hundred and fifty employees, I won't you know, I'm
• 21:00
Speaker 3: not going to do I'm not going to ask you
• 21:01
Speaker 3: to do something that I won't do. I'll do exactly
• 21:03
Speaker 3: the same. But you know, I just left Andrew, who
• 21:07
Speaker 3: you know is my right hand, uh, and he was
• 21:12
Speaker 3: unstringing party lights and putting them strategically back in boxes
• 21:16
Speaker 3: and helping with inventory. And so I'm really I'm so
• 21:19
Speaker 3: incredibly proud to be part of this city team. But
• 21:22
Speaker 3: please know there's an entire pack team that are you know,
• 21:26
Speaker 3: working on picking up garbage this morning, we're doing milling
• 21:29
Speaker 3: and paving this morning. We've got a city council tonight.
• 21:33
  Speaker 3: We've got six o'clock finance.
• 21:34
  Speaker 11: We can hear.
• 21:37
Speaker 3: Hey how about chair and evening meeting. But anyway, No,
• 21:41
Speaker 3: it's work continues, and by the way, work continues through
• 21:45
Speaker 3: the regatta. This isn't something that we just do kind
• 21:48
Speaker 3: of you know, it's it's obviously all hands on deck,
• 21:51
Speaker 3: but we are We have a talented team. We can
• 21:54
Speaker 3: walk and chew gum at the same time. But our
• 21:56
Speaker 3: sponsors and folks who are volunteers who help make it happen.
• 22:00
Speaker 3: It was an incredible four days. Mother Nature, I want
• 22:04
Speaker 3: to say she was super kind to us. It was very,
• 22:07
Speaker 3: very warm, and it is It is challenging, especially when
• 22:12
Speaker 3: you have littles. So we had a lot of water activities,
• 22:15
Speaker 3: a lot of cooling stations, and that will continue for
• 22:18
Speaker 3: years to come. But the stern Wheelers had a great time.
• 22:21
Speaker 3: And you know, this is year four. Next year is
• 22:24
Speaker 3: year five. And to say that, we already started talking
• 22:27
Speaker 3: about as we were, you know, thank you for coming.
• 22:29
Speaker 3: Thank you. It was like thanks, you know, you're kissing
• 22:32
Speaker 3: and waving at everybody leaving the driveway last night, that's
• 22:35
Speaker 3: what we were doing. I was sitting there with our
• 22:38
Speaker 3: chief of staff, Matthew Sutton, who you know well, Dave,
• 22:40
Speaker 3: and already saying this and this, we do this, how
• 22:45
Speaker 3: about we think about doing this because next year is
• 22:47
Speaker 3: year five of bringing it back, and it's our nation's
• 22:51
Speaker 3: you know, big birthday, so we have a lot to
• 22:53
Speaker 3: think about for next year already.
• 22:56
Speaker 4: So you want to go ahead and go I know
• 22:58
Speaker 4: the answer to this, but you want to go ahead
• 22:59
Speaker 4: and go on the record, are saying there will be
• 23:01
  Speaker 4: a year five?
• 23:01
  Speaker 2: Oh?
• 23:02
Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely, I mean there's no there is no question it.
• 23:05
Speaker 3: If you couldn't have come down any of the days
• 23:08
Speaker 3: and not seen huge crowds, huge, huge crowds. This was
• 23:14
Speaker 3: a you know when people say I don't know if
• 23:16
  Speaker 3: we should, it's it's you know, it's not. It's not
• 23:18
  Speaker 3: my opinion, it's a fact. I mean it's not. It's
• 23:21
Speaker 3: not because I would like to have it. It is
• 23:23
Speaker 3: because we heard from the people and they have spoken.
• 23:27
Speaker 3: I'll say this to you, and it's not just Charleston residence.
• 23:31
Speaker 3: One of the best stories happened as I was, you know,
• 23:34
Speaker 3: waving it, thanks for coming, thanks for coming. This woman
• 23:37
Speaker 3: who had this awesome big hat and she and her
• 23:40
Speaker 3: friend had their chairs from the Jefferson starship who killed
• 23:44
Speaker 3: it last night. They were so incredibly good and they're
• 23:46
Speaker 3: walking and I said, oh my gosh, I love your
• 23:49
Speaker 3: I love your straw hat. I wore a straw hat
• 23:51
Speaker 3: most of yesterday because the sun was so hot. My
• 23:53
Speaker 3: sister said, I looked like Nick Saban, but whatever, it
• 23:55
Speaker 3: didn't matter. I think I look like a good Nick Saban.
• 23:58
Speaker 3: And I said I love your hat and she said, oh,
• 24:00
Speaker 3: thank you so much. I said, you have a great time.
• 24:02
Speaker 3: She said, yes, this is my best girlfriend. We live
• 24:05
Speaker 3: in Mingo County. Every year for the past four years
• 24:08
Speaker 3: we've come up. We stay at the Embassy suites. We
• 24:10
Speaker 3: stay three days. We had such a great time. We're
• 24:13
Speaker 3: going to have brunch in the morning and we're going
• 24:15
Speaker 3: to go back home. I mean, I feel and seen.
• 24:20
Speaker 3: It was just the most perfect thing to say. And
• 24:24
Speaker 3: even as exhausted as we were, Audrey was standing there,
• 24:26
Speaker 3: and Andrew was standing there in Teena Atricia and Matthew
• 24:28
Speaker 3: and Ben and we all just kind of perked up
• 24:31
Speaker 3: a little bit because it is an exhausting venture. I
• 24:36
Speaker 3: hit every single event and it is an exhausting venture.
• 24:40
Speaker 3: But when you hear something like that, you go, oh this, yeah,
• 24:43
Speaker 3: that's why we do this. And yes, mother nature was
• 24:47
Speaker 3: very warm, and I think it probably while there was
• 24:50
Speaker 3: no rain, and everybody said yes, this will be the
• 24:52
Speaker 3: best year ever. I think Mother and Nature. The heat
• 24:55
Speaker 3: was really really taxing on a lot of people. People
• 24:58
Speaker 3: came out later, and so we're just gonna have to
• 25:01
Speaker 3: always try to navigate what that looks like. The car
• 25:04
Speaker 3: show was just incredible this year, the amount of cars,
• 25:08
Speaker 3: more cars, beautiful cars. And so every every single year
• 25:13
Speaker 3: we're gonna have to tweak what we do. But I
• 25:14
Speaker 3: can promise you this. We're already starting to think about
• 25:17
Speaker 3: year five and our big nation's birthday, like what are
• 25:20
Speaker 3: we going to do and how can we do it?
• 25:22
Speaker 3: And you know, entertain by the way, you know entertainment
• 25:24
Speaker 3: better than I do, Dave. I only have four years
• 25:27
Speaker 3: of experience of trying to understand the madness and I'm
• 25:30
Speaker 3: learning through folks like Patrick leahey at Matthew. But you know,
• 25:35
Speaker 3: it's always a challenge too. The weekend that we have
• 25:37
Speaker 3: it works for our community, but it doesn't always work
• 25:40
Speaker 3: for artists. Right, it's a holiday. Sometimes artists don't work
• 25:43
Speaker 3: on holidays. Sometimes artists are already booked on these holidays.
• 25:46
Speaker 3: And it's an open ticket, which means these folks aren't
• 25:50
Speaker 3: getting a cut of the ticket sales because it's free.
• 25:53
Speaker 3: It's always going to stay free, by the way, free, free, free, free.
• 25:56
Speaker 3: You want to come and see them, It's going to
• 25:57
Speaker 3: be free. So it's going to be a lot more
• 26:01
Speaker 3: planning and a lot more preparation, a lot more attention
• 26:03
Speaker 3: to detail. But I cannot thank people enough for being
• 26:07
  Speaker 3: so incredibly wonderful.
• 26:09
Speaker 4: Talking to Charleston Mayor Amy Shulder a good one to

• 26:28
Speaker 4: the story of crouton? I'll get I'll tell you a minute.
• 26:31
Speaker 4: Cruton's parents here. We're happy to meet Mayor Amy. Last
• 26:33
Speaker 4: night at the concert, thanked her for bringing the regatta back.
• 26:36
Speaker 4: We had a great time and the music was awesome.
• 26:38
Speaker 4: Crewton Okay, so you know on Friday, I do the
• 26:40
Speaker 4: segment the adopt you adopt me, please spend the week?
• 26:43
Speaker 4: All right? A few years ago we had this incredible
• 26:47
Speaker 4: dog whose name was Crouton.
• 26:49
Speaker 3: Okay, I love that name, this.
• 26:51
Speaker 4: Family, and I've gotten to meet them, adopted Crewton. Follow
• 26:56
Speaker 4: it on social media. It's called Chronicles of Creuton. I
• 26:58
Speaker 4: think it is this dog and he's like the best
• 27:02
Speaker 4: dog ever and uh and he's my big success story.
• 27:05
Speaker 4: They actually brought Creuton to see me when I love it.
• 27:09
Speaker 4: I was m seeing the food truck festival in Eleanor
• 27:12
Speaker 4: a couple of years ago.
• 27:13
Speaker 3: I love that they refer to themselves as Crutons Crejohn's parents.
• 27:16
Speaker 3: I say it often, I'm because I still get called it.
• 27:20
Speaker 3: And I did, by the way, I did this weekend.
• 27:22
Speaker 3: Hi Joe's mom. Yes, and that's okay. I love it.
• 27:26
  Speaker 3: I'm Cruton's mom.
• 27:27
Speaker 4: But we do appreciate it.
• 27:29
Speaker 3: So thank you, so very much. It is so wonderful
• 27:32
Speaker 3: and it's so humbling, and it sounds so bumper stick irish.
• 27:35
Speaker 3: But if you if anybody knows me, you know I
• 27:38
Speaker 3: really really mean this. I love being around people. I
• 27:41
Speaker 3: love hearing from people. Oh, by the way, and it's
• 27:44
Speaker 3: not just oh, you're so great, this is so great.
• 27:47
Speaker 3: We love the regatta. There's somebody who came up to
• 27:49
Speaker 3: me last night and said, hey, why did you put
• 27:51
Speaker 3: the potties over here and not here? And I said,
• 27:53
Speaker 3: we had to make a last minute change. You know what,
• 27:55
Speaker 3: You're right, We're wrong. They should be over here and
• 27:57
Speaker 3: said here, thank you. I appreciate this. I want to
• 28:01
Speaker 3: hear from you, even if you've got a critique a
• 28:04
Speaker 3: I'm upset. And I also said to them, Dave, because
• 28:07
Speaker 3: you know this, thank you being so kind. Thank you
• 28:11
Speaker 3: for being so kind and saying to me, hey, I
• 28:14
Speaker 3: have a suggestion next year, could you put more potties
• 28:16
Speaker 3: this way than this way? Bingo done, I'm on it.
• 28:20
Speaker 3: We don't always get it right, you know, as I
• 28:22
Speaker 3: love to say, we make a thousand mistakes a day.
• 28:25
Speaker 3: That's cool because we do try different things. But if
• 28:28
Speaker 3: you feel like we need to improve in somewhere or
• 28:31
Speaker 3: you know, suggestions, heaven Stabetsi's know, when you have one
• 28:36
Speaker 3: of the state's largest festivals, one of the region's largest
• 28:39
Speaker 3: fairs and festivals, there's always room for improvement. And I
• 28:42
Speaker 3: actually mean I want to hear from you. Mayor's office
• 28:46
Speaker 3: at City off Charleston dot org. Please please please, so.
• 28:50
Speaker 4: A couple of things I do have to ask you
• 28:52
Speaker 4: about Buster rhymes. Yeah, little criticism of mister Rhymes called
• 29:00
Speaker 4: mister Busta. But yeah, sure, mister Busta. Uh for maybe
• 29:03
Speaker 4: some language. Uh yeah, it's Buster rhymes though. Yeah, I mean, yeah,
• 29:07
Speaker 4: it's it's it's Buster rhymes and yeah. Uh and also
• 29:11
Speaker 4: apparently not knowing where he.
• 29:13
Speaker 3: Was that always runs. You know, my hair goes up
• 29:16
Speaker 3: on the back of my neck when someone does. When
• 29:20
Speaker 3: someone does that, I will say this, Uh. It was
• 29:23
Speaker 3: one of the largest crowds that we had. I feel like, honestly,
• 29:27
Speaker 3: I'll be honest with you, and I always take my
• 29:29
Speaker 3: cues from the people in the age group that I
• 29:31
Speaker 3: don't know his music, but my you know, my kids do,
• 29:35
Speaker 3: and the younger old they loved it. They loved the
• 29:38
Speaker 3: DJ guy. Yeah, that was the feedback that I got.
• 29:42
  Speaker 3: H But yeah, sure, I I will say I appreciate
• 29:46
Speaker 3: the detector textures comments. But Jefferson Starship came in last
• 29:53
Speaker 3: night and said we're in the best Virginia, West Virginia,
• 29:58
Speaker 3: and the crowd went banana us.
• 30:01
Speaker 4: So so take that Buster on.
• 30:03
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I look, I can't disagree with it.
• 30:07
  Speaker 3: I'll be honest, I can't disagree.
• 30:08
Speaker 4: It's an it's an easy mistake. And I'll tell you
• 30:11
Speaker 4: a story from the nineteen eighties. Brian Adams came in
• 30:16
Speaker 4: concert to the Coliseum a convention center and said, it's
• 30:18
Speaker 4: great to be here in Huntington. Uh here it does it?
• 30:22
  Speaker 11: Does?
• 30:23
  Speaker 2: It?
• 30:23
  Speaker 4: Does happen?
• 30:24
Speaker 3: And yeah, right and so and again, you know, the
• 30:28
Speaker 3: team from Jefferson on the on the stage with Brian
• 30:31
Speaker 3: Hughes and we were kind of again off to the side,
• 30:34
Speaker 3: already tweaking for next year, and the Jefferson Starship team
• 30:37
Speaker 3: came up on stage and I said, thank you so
• 30:39
Speaker 3: much for being here. We absolutely love having you here
• 30:42
Speaker 3: in the capital city. And they all said to me,
• 30:44
Speaker 3: we are so happy to be here. Thank you so much.
• 30:47
Speaker 3: They travel all the time. I cannot imagine if you
• 30:50
Speaker 3: asked me where are you today, Amy, I'd go, I'm
• 30:54
Speaker 3: happy to be here. Where am I? I've been to
• 30:56
Speaker 3: this story a bazillion times. Yeah, I'm not making excuses
• 31:00
Speaker 3: except for the fact that when you're running nine ways
• 31:02
Speaker 3: of Sunday sometimes you're thinking, oh my goodness, gracious, what
• 31:04
Speaker 3: should I say? Where am I? What am I doing? Anyway?
• 31:07
Speaker 3: I get you know, I guess so I will say
• 31:11
Speaker 3: if you had to say what was what was your
• 31:13
Speaker 3: favorite thing of the regatta? For me, it is always
• 31:17
Speaker 3: the number of kids that come up. It's always been
• 31:21
Speaker 3: my focus on kids and not I love the concerts.
• 31:25
Speaker 3: To have a cold beer by the river, I'm down
• 31:27
Speaker 3: with that. What I want is I want so many
• 31:31
Speaker 3: great things to do for the kids and the kids
• 31:33
Speaker 3: that came up, because you know, I do friendship bracelets.
• 31:35
Speaker 3: I gave away a hundred. It was so fun. We
• 31:38
Speaker 3: did cars, we did bracelets, we did sunglasses. We had
• 31:42
Speaker 3: such a great celebration for the kids. That was probably
• 31:44
Speaker 3: my very favorite. And Casey in the Sunshine.
• 31:47
Speaker 4: Band did that was wrong about Casey and the time
• 31:49
Speaker 4: you were spot on?
• 31:51
Speaker 3: I didn't get it. But man O Day and he
• 31:55
Speaker 3: was funny. Oh yeah, I mean he was funny and
• 31:57
Speaker 3: fun and the dancers were unbelievab and their costumes.
• 32:01
  Speaker 4: It's a show. I mean, it's not just a show,
• 32:03
  Speaker 4: it's a full on show.
• 32:04
  Speaker 2: Me.
• 32:04
Speaker 3: It was fun watching the dancers run off stage, come
• 32:08
Speaker 3: back out put on these incredible costumes. That's what this
• 32:11
Speaker 3: is about too, That's what I that's what I really like.
• 32:14
Speaker 3: Plus I know all the lyrics, you know nine of
• 32:17
Speaker 3: their songs, but you know, it is it is about
• 32:20
Speaker 3: the money. And we thank every single vendor. And I
• 32:23
Speaker 3: went to every vendor booth, I went to all of
• 32:24
Speaker 3: the restaurants. You know, it's it is a it's an
• 32:29
Speaker 3: incredible time for the city. And I'm just so thankful
• 32:32
Speaker 3: also to the vendors who were exhausted, who were still
• 32:36
Speaker 3: going with us at one and two in the morning.
• 32:38
Speaker 3: You know, they put up their bright, shiny stuff and
• 32:40
Speaker 3: then they have to take it all down. But I
• 32:42
Speaker 3: talked to one of the vendors who sells great little
• 32:46
Speaker 3: knick knacks and things, and and she said, I just
• 32:50
Speaker 3: I love it so much. Can I come back? Can
• 32:52
Speaker 3: I come? Can I come back? Yeah? Sure you can
• 32:54
  Speaker 3: come back.
• 32:55
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 32:55
Speaker 3: We love having you because it's hard. It's hard work. Yeah,
• 32:58
Speaker 3: it's hard work. You make you make good money, but buddy,
• 33:00
  Speaker 3: it's harder rock.
• 33:02
Speaker 4: And one other thing before we go to break there
• 33:03
Speaker 4: there because I have you know, we're talking positive. But
• 33:06
Speaker 4: there was an incident yeah, and Charleston Police Department took
• 33:10
Speaker 4: care of it quickly. Do you want to explain from
• 33:13
Speaker 4: exactly what happened there? And by the way, kudos to
• 33:17
Speaker 4: the Charleston Police Department for handling the situation.
• 33:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, we were made aware of a disturbance involving
• 33:24
Speaker 3: a firearm. It was on Courting Canal, while it was
• 33:27
Speaker 3: inside the footprint of the regatta. They obtained secured these
• 33:32
Speaker 3: individuals closer to downtown. Three individuals two were arrested, each
• 33:38
Speaker 3: charged minor possession of firearm, possession of stolen firearm, and
• 33:43
Speaker 3: so they're going to be prosecuted and we're going to
• 33:45
Speaker 3: continue to investigate. I'll say this this is if there
• 33:49
Speaker 3: is any positive about that negative situation, is that our
• 33:54
Speaker 3: guys and gals man o' day within I'm going to
• 33:57
Speaker 3: say ninety seconds, but I think really in fairness it
• 33:59
Speaker 3: was probably two minutes they had them and had the
• 34:03
Speaker 3: situation contained, and with tens and tens of thousands of people,
• 34:08
Speaker 3: I'm really proud of the work. And nobody ever wants
• 34:12
Speaker 3: any incident to happen at the regatta. But the only
• 34:16
Speaker 3: incident that we really ever have is just overheating or
• 34:19
Speaker 3: people sometimes have sugar issues or not eating enough or
• 34:22
Speaker 3: that kind of thing. So it's certainly something that we
• 34:27
Speaker 3: look at, are going to continue to investigate if there's
• 34:29
Speaker 3: anything that we could have done differently, By golly, I
• 34:32
Speaker 3: promise you we will do it, but I'm not sure.
• 34:35
Speaker 4: That there is well and social media doesn't help.
• 34:38
Speaker 3: But you know, I mean I think that, but people
• 34:41
Speaker 3: also don't have the correct information. Somebody said there was
• 34:43
Speaker 3: a twelve year old something.
• 34:45
  Speaker 4: Twelve year old.
• 34:49
Speaker 3: No, absolutely not, absolutely not, And so you know, I
• 34:53
Speaker 3: was talking to somebody also about a different issue who
• 34:55
Speaker 3: was just going on and on and on. And everybody
• 34:58
Speaker 3: deserves an opportunity to speak. It doesn't mean that the
• 35:01
Speaker 3: information that you're providing when you're speaking is correct. And
• 35:04
Speaker 3: what we try to do always do is I appreciate
• 35:06
  Speaker 3: everybody's opinions. By the way, I appreciate everybody's concerns. I'm
• 35:09
Speaker 3: a mayor, but I'm a mother first, dave, and you
• 35:11
Speaker 3: know that, and so I appreciate those concerns. But let's
• 35:15
Speaker 3: just be factual about it. And sometimes you know this, heck,
• 35:17
Speaker 3: you're in this when you don't have all of the information.
• 35:21
Speaker 3: Sometimes we say we're still investigating, and that's not a blowoff.
• 35:24
Speaker 3: That is to say, I'm not going to open my
• 35:26
Speaker 3: mouth unless we know what's going on. And I feel
• 35:30
Speaker 3: very confident because I get the opportunity and the pleasure
• 35:34
Speaker 3: of working with our law enforcement every day. They crush
• 35:37
Speaker 3: it and they care and oh, by the way, they're officers,
• 35:41
Speaker 3: but they're also dads, and they're also moms and grandparents,
• 35:44
Speaker 3: and they care just like you do. I promise you
• 35:47
  Speaker 3: they do.

• 38:21
Speaker 4: here is the Regatta self sustaining and financial terms.
• 38:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you so much for asking that. So we
• 38:27
Speaker 3: just started this past year an investment account from the
• 38:33
Speaker 3: profits that we have received, because that is all That's
• 38:36
Speaker 3: always my major concern, you know, even though I'm currently
• 38:40
Speaker 3: running again for my third term, and you know, I'd
• 38:43
Speaker 3: like to be around just another term when I'm gone,
• 38:47
Speaker 3: I want to make sure that the regatta continues. And
• 38:49
Speaker 3: the only way that you really make sure the Regatta
• 38:50
Speaker 3: continues is have it financially solvent. The reason why we're
• 38:54
Speaker 3: able to do what we do and too the level
• 38:56
Speaker 3: that we do it is because of sponsors. But thank
• 39:00
Speaker 3: you for asking that question. We invest. We are investing.
• 39:04
Speaker 3: Our the Regatta Board, the Regtta Commission, not the city
• 39:08
Speaker 3: are doing that and so we're very excited that we've
• 39:11
Speaker 3: been fruitful over the past couple of years. But when
• 39:14
Speaker 3: we brought it back, I went back to look at
• 39:16
Speaker 3: all of the records, the ones that we could find,
• 39:19
Speaker 3: and that's what happened. It ballooned Dave from this, well,
• 39:25
Speaker 3: you know, let's let's let's give props to Nelson Jones,
• 39:30
Speaker 3: the little And when I say little guy, I mean
• 39:32
Speaker 3: he was twelve when he started it and just wanted
• 39:36
Speaker 3: to raise stern wheelers. And who would have known I
• 39:38
Speaker 3: said that on stage the other night that would have
• 39:40
Speaker 3: grown into this. But I think that there is a
• 39:43
Speaker 3: Bigger doesn't always mean better, Longer doesn't always mean more success.
• 39:47
Speaker 3: We're gonna take it to ten days, No, we're not.
• 39:50
Speaker 3: I'm not. Because of the amount of incredible work and
• 39:54
Speaker 3: money that has to be raised to do this, and
• 39:57
Speaker 3: you could see the growth as they it's easy, folks.
• 40:02
Speaker 3: Another day you add that's another expense. That's another expense,
• 40:07
Speaker 3: and our goal is to make sure that it is solvent.
• 40:13
Speaker 3: Here's the good news to the Texter. Yes we're investing,
• 40:15
Speaker 3: and yes we're making sure that we have money, and
• 40:18
Speaker 3: my goal is ultimately to have a foundation. But when
• 40:21
Speaker 3: I was given the high fives and the thanks for coming,
• 40:24
Speaker 3: every single one of our sponsors and especially and thank goodness,
• 40:28
Speaker 3: most of our bigger sponsors said I'm back, thank you,
• 40:32
Speaker 3: I'm back. This is great because I said to you, Dave,
• 40:35
Speaker 3: my days are running together when we were together last
• 40:38
Speaker 3: Monday Tuesday. I don't. Yes, but it is not just
• 40:43
Speaker 3: an opportunity. I can't tell you how many people I
• 40:46
Speaker 3: met at the regata. Hey, Amy, I wanted to introduce
• 40:49
Speaker 3: you to doctor doctor so and so, who we are having.
• 40:55
Speaker 3: He's just moving here with his new wife. They're still
• 40:58
Speaker 3: staying in a hotel. But I wanted you to meet
• 41:00
Speaker 3: them and say, this is their opportunity also to showcase
• 41:03
Speaker 3: and to to court people that they want to have
• 41:08
Speaker 3: here in our community as well or to say thank
• 41:11
Speaker 3: you to their clients. There is one. I won't call
• 41:14
Speaker 3: them out, but I think this is a wonderful thing
• 41:16
Speaker 3: that they do. There's a big sponsor that we have
• 41:19
Speaker 3: that says, yeah, we'll take a couple and they get
• 41:21
Speaker 3: they get a lot of fun sponsorship tickets. Hey, we'll
• 41:25
Speaker 3: take a couple to some of our you know, some
• 41:27
Speaker 3: of our executives. But the meat potatoes of our our
• 41:30
Speaker 3: tickets and things we want to give to our employees
• 41:33
Speaker 3: to take their families, as you know, as a celebration,
• 41:37
Speaker 3: as a reward for doing you know, job well done.
• 41:40
Speaker 3: So there's a lot of really good things that people
• 41:44
Speaker 3: will never see that happens in around the regatta. But
• 41:47
Speaker 3: I am thankful to have that continued support for our sponsors.
• 41:51
Speaker 4: From our sponsors, Tex says, love regatta, love Fourth of
• 41:54
Speaker 4: July fireworks. More would be happier with one less band
• 41:57
Speaker 4: and better July fourth fireworks.
• 41:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate that. Well, here's this is what Matthew
• 42:02
Speaker 3: Sutton and I say about fireworks all the time. You
• 42:04
Speaker 3: either love them or you hate them. There ain't no
• 42:06
Speaker 3: middle y'all, and a lot of people don't like them.
• 42:11
  Speaker 3: I will say I don't disagree with you, and I
• 42:13
Speaker 3: appreciate that, and I'm not sure if it's a four
• 42:15
Speaker 3: day or three day bands in one of big fireworks.
• 42:18
Speaker 3: The most the feedback that I received late last night
• 42:24
Speaker 3: and early this morning, thanks to all my girlfriends who
• 42:26
Speaker 3: were texting me really early this morning, loved the drone show.
• 42:30
Speaker 3: Loved it. It was absolutely incredible. It was hysterical, was funny.
• 42:33
Speaker 3: It was fun if you were standing at Haddad, if
• 42:37
Speaker 3: you went down to if you were on the other
• 42:39
Speaker 3: side of Kennaw where a Kennel river where a lot
• 42:42
Speaker 3: of people go by the way to watch fireworks, because
• 42:44
Speaker 3: we're used to it. I'm not sure we did a
• 42:46
Speaker 3: great job or a good enough job to let you know, Dave,
• 42:50
Speaker 3: you probably shouldn't be down on that side of Cannan
• 42:53
Speaker 3: Boulevard because the drone show is more picturesque right to
• 42:56
Speaker 3: see it face on. And so I will give my
• 43:00
Speaker 3: apologies about that for maybe not communicating as well as
• 43:03
Speaker 3: we probably should have. But I think people really like
• 43:06
Speaker 3: the firework and drone element. But I don't disagree with
• 43:09
Speaker 3: the caller. I will say this to the text or
• 43:12
Speaker 3: excuse me, Dave. Fireworks used to be used to be
• 43:16
Speaker 3: eleven hundred dollars a minute. Used to be eleven hundred
• 43:20
Speaker 3: dollars a minute, and so it's very, very expensive. I
• 43:25
Speaker 3: don't know if I disagree that maybe it a shims,
• 43:28
Speaker 3: you know, skim some off another pot and put it
• 43:31
Speaker 3: into a firework pot. It's something that we've already talked about.
• 43:36
Speaker 3: Love the drone show. People love the drone show, and
• 43:39
Speaker 3: quite frankly, so did I.
• 43:40
  Speaker 4: I think. I don't know if it's going to happen
• 43:42
Speaker 4: anytime soon, but I think eventually, as drunk and drones
• 43:45
Speaker 4: are a relatively new thing as far as consumer that's right.
• 43:50
Speaker 4: I can see at some point drone shows totally replacing fireworks.
• 43:53
Speaker 4: I mean totally, which which should make a lot of
• 43:55
Speaker 4: veterans and also pats happy.
• 43:58
  Speaker 3: There's no there's no question about it. I have a
• 44:00
Speaker 3: lot of good a lot of good male friends, and
• 44:03
Speaker 3: as a matter of fact, one I won't name names,
• 44:06
Speaker 3: one gentleman who's a Vietnam VET, who said I love this.
• 44:11
Speaker 3: Last night he came to listen to Jefferson Starship how
• 44:14
Speaker 3: about this? Will this will make you sit back in
• 44:16
Speaker 3: your chair? And he was there with his wife and
• 44:18
Speaker 3: he said, I'm just trying to find a space where
• 44:19
Speaker 3: I can kind of hear them really well. I don't
• 44:21
  Speaker 3: I don't want to do the steps. I don't want
• 44:22
Speaker 3: to get down in all of that amy the crowd,
• 44:24
Speaker 3: And I don't blame you. I just want to listen
• 44:27
Speaker 3: to it. We used to, we used to listen to
• 44:30
Speaker 3: this music to make ourselves feel better and to get
• 44:34
Speaker 3: together and the sounds that you have this particular band.
• 44:38
Speaker 3: And then after fireworks, he said, that's my kind of show,
• 44:42
Speaker 3: No loud pops, no loud egs. And I said, well,
• 44:45

• 47:46
Speaker 4: good on us here. We can sort of answered this
• 47:48
Speaker 4: one earlier, but give me a quick answer again with
• 47:50
Speaker 4: we're got to ever go back to its glory days
• 47:52
Speaker 4: of ten days quickly?
• 47:53
Speaker 3: Well not with me, as mayor, is just we can
• 47:56
Speaker 3: do it. We would kill our city employees and I'm
• 47:58
Speaker 3: not going to do that to our employees.
• 48:00
Speaker 4: Texas. How about a page on the city's page specifically
• 48:02
Speaker 4: for people to submit their suggestions for such things as
• 48:05
Speaker 4: musical acts for future regatta.
• 48:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, yep, and you can. By the way, you
• 48:10
Speaker 3: can do that anyways, just email me.
• 48:11
Speaker 4: All right, there you go. Any chance as a texture
• 48:14
Speaker 4: that the library books sale and the taste of Charleston
• 48:17
Speaker 4: can be brought back to the Coliseum as regatta events.
• 48:20
Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know. Maybe somebody pitched me yesterday during
• 48:24
Speaker 3: the car shows when I was walking down there, like,
• 48:26
Speaker 3: why don't we do a chili thing down there as well?
• 48:29
Speaker 3: Adding events just adds more expense. I'll just go ahead
• 48:32
Speaker 3: and say that. But lots of things to see and
• 48:35
Speaker 3: do is a number one travel motivator. We want people
• 48:37
Speaker 3: to get down there and do lots of different things.
• 48:39
Speaker 4: All right, Possibly what about a regatta yard sale on
• 48:43
Speaker 4: Saturday morning along the boulevard for future regattas.
• 48:46
Speaker 3: Uh, maybe get people downtown moving? Yeah? Can I bring
• 48:51
Speaker 3: my Can I bring my stuff to their house?
• 48:53
Speaker 4: Okay? I told you that they were all positive. Here
• 48:56
  Speaker 4: here's a negative one. Now, No, it's okay, it's okay,
• 48:58
Speaker 4: that's fine, we'll take it. One of the things I
• 49:00
Speaker 4: like about I'll take it is that you come in
• 49:03
Speaker 4: and you do this. Did the mayor upset the governor
• 49:05
Speaker 4: or someone at the Department of Highways because the grass
• 49:07
Speaker 4: areas the state maintains in the city were pretty tall
• 49:11
Speaker 4: considering all the people coming into Charleston for the regatta. Well,
• 49:13
Speaker 4: so really that wasn't against you.
• 49:15
Speaker 3: Now. But let me go ahead and say this, but
• 49:18
Speaker 3: there's tall grass in the city, and you want to
• 49:19
Speaker 3: know why. Before the regatta it poured down the rain.
• 49:22
Speaker 3: It poured down the rain. We're behind, by the way,
• 49:25
Speaker 3: and if we're behind, I bet you dollars to doughnuts day.
• 49:28
Speaker 3: This state is behind because of mother Nature. She's been
• 49:31
Speaker 3: kind of she's been very temperamental lately. Lots of rain
• 49:35
Speaker 3: then ninety seven degrees, lots of rain ninety eight degrees.
• 49:37
Speaker 4: So they're asking what the texture was, asking here was
• 49:39
  Speaker 4: about the state?
• 49:40
  Speaker 6: It really was.
• 49:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, But still I appreciate that, and I appreciate their frustration.
• 49:45
Speaker 3: I have that frustration too, But honestly, I can't send
• 49:48
Speaker 3: my guys out when we have, you know, the winds
• 49:51
Speaker 3: that we had in some of the rain to go
• 49:52
Speaker 3: cut and it grows fast, all right.
• 49:54
Speaker 4: So let's get away from regatta in the final two
• 49:57
Speaker 4: minutes and TJ set behind the micro because he wants
• 49:59
Speaker 4: to talk or something good. So let's let's talk about
• 50:04
Speaker 4: let's talk about future things, what's going on in Charleston.
• 50:07
Speaker 4: But God is behind us now, I mean not for
• 50:08
Speaker 4: you guys, it's not. But TBT would be the next.
• 50:11
Speaker 3: Big thing right, Yeah, I mean tbt's coming up. We're
• 50:14
Speaker 3: really excited about that. But this is what let me focus,
• 50:18
Speaker 3: or let me narrow it very quickly. Municipal government is
• 50:21
Speaker 3: the government that I believe works were boots on the ground.
• 50:25
Speaker 3: You know what I'm focused on. I'm focused on paving.
• 50:27
Speaker 3: I'm focused on improving our parks. I'm focused on making
• 50:31
Speaker 3: sure that we look at economic development opportunities in creation
• 50:34
Speaker 3: of job growth. As a matter of fact, one of
• 50:37
Speaker 3: our dear friends, Dave just said, I see the growth
• 50:39
Speaker 3: downtown because I see cranes coming in. That's my focus.
• 50:42
Speaker 3: All of these events are really good and I absolutely
• 50:45
Speaker 3: love them, and we're planning bigger and better as we
• 50:47
Speaker 3: not bigger better as we continue to move forward. But
• 50:51
Speaker 3: investment in critical infrastructure is the way that we really
• 50:55
Speaker 3: grow a city. These are the things that capture people
• 50:57
Speaker 3: here and it just quality of life. But my focus
• 51:00
Speaker 3: is always going to be on infrastructure.
• 51:02
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 51:02
Speaker 4: To talk about some of this development downtown, we see
• 51:04
  Speaker 4: the cranes.
• 51:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, you see DC and I think what they're talking
• 51:08
Speaker 3: about in two big cranes right now. I'm sorry for
• 51:10
Speaker 3: some of the slow traffic, but TC energy and then
• 51:13
Speaker 3: of course Poka Valley Bank, but nobody has brought it
• 51:16
Speaker 3: up in a couple of weeks. But please please always
• 51:19
Speaker 3: know this. I am center focused on the mall, the
• 51:24
Speaker 3: property that surrounds them all, and the development of those
• 51:27
Speaker 3: nine and a half to ten acres that are critical
• 51:30
Speaker 3: flat pieces of property in downtown, in the heart of
• 51:33
Speaker 3: our city. And I want folks to know that I
• 51:36
Speaker 3: am not distracted by musical acts and ferris wheel rides.
• 51:41
Speaker 3: That is always going to be my focus as it
• 51:43
  Speaker 3: is today well.
• 51:44
Speaker 4: And one of the great things about having musical acts
• 51:46
Speaker 4: and the ferris wheels is that it brings people to
• 51:50
Speaker 4: town who spend money.
• 51:51
Speaker 3: That's exactly right. That's exactly right. It's just one of
• 51:55
Speaker 3: many things. But thanks for having me, Dave always and
• 51:57
Speaker 3: thanks to your show, and thanks to your team. You
• 51:59
Speaker 3: guys may get really easy to get information out. And
• 52:01
Speaker 3: I really appreciate it, all.
• 52:02
Speaker 4: Right, Charles Mary Amy Schulder a good one. I appreciate
• 52:04
Speaker 4: it out. I know you got counsel night, but try
• 52:06
Speaker 4: to wrest a little bit.
• 52:07
  Speaker 7: Thank you.
• 52:07
Speaker 3: I will, all right, thank you.
• 52:08
Speaker 4: Brian Hughes was looking pretty I didn't text him. He
• 52:10
Speaker 4: was looking pretty toasted this morning on television because he
• 52:13
Speaker 4: was all red, but you're not quite as red. You're
• 52:15
  Speaker 4: more hallowey.
• 52:16
Speaker 3: Thank you. He appreciate it. I'm telling me so that
• 52:18
  Speaker 3: all right.
• 52:18
Speaker 4: That's fine, all right, Mayor. I appreciate it. TJ. What
• 52:21
Speaker 4: you got for I have nothing to say, Okay.
• 52:26
Speaker 1: Coming up on the show, we have Kelly Allen, executive
• 52:28
Speaker 1: director of the Center for Budget Policy, on the Big
• 52:31
  Speaker 1: Beautiful Bill.
• 52:31
Speaker 4: Jared Halprin from DC second District Congressman Riley Moore at
• 52:35
Speaker 4: the eleven o six. All right, I'll be back tomorrow
• 52:38
