- 0:19Hosted by us 2 mums who love talking all things busted in
- 0:23McFly and reminiscing on one of the best decades of our lives,
- 0:26The naughties. I'm Shan.
- 0:29And I'm Tay and on this week's episode we are very excited
- 0:32because not only are we heading back to Mcfly's early catalogue
- 0:35and talking about the absolute bop she left me, but we are also
- 0:39welcoming onto the podcast the amazing McFly tribute band,
- 0:42Mcflyde. Yeah, we'll be getting to know
- 0:45them, talking all things McFly, putting them through this or
- 0:48that and asking the all important question, are you Team
- 0:50Busted or are you Team McFly? We'll be diving into Song of the
- 0:54Week and finishing up with a little game that we've got
- 0:56planned for them. So whether you're a hardcore
- 0:58McFly fan, a tribute band lover, or you just accidentally press
- 1:01play and stayed welcome, we're very glad that you're here.
- 1:05So Shannon, how's your week been?
- 1:07Yeah, it's been all right. I finally hit half term so I can
- 1:11now officially say I'm halfway through my first year as ATA.
- 1:15Love that I played well. Halfway.
- 1:17You made it. Thank you.
- 1:19It's been, it's been rough, but I got it.
- 1:23Yeah. I've been doing a lot of running
- 1:24this week. Just call me Harry Judd.
- 1:26I was going to say, all right, Harry, calm down.
- 1:30Do you know so I've been doing Couch 5K and I've got Joe Wiley
- 1:33in my ear and I did did a 30 minute run today and I cried.
- 1:37It's so. Proud of you, Fair play to you
- 1:39kids. I've got the stamina of like a 5
- 1:40year old when it comes to trust. Me 5 weeks ago I couldn't run 90
- 1:45seconds and now I've managed to run 30 minutes and Joe Wiley in
- 1:49my ear was like you can finally call yourself a runner.
- 1:52And I literally out loud in the middle of this like row she just
- 1:56went bitch please because I've been calling myself a runner
- 2:00since week 1. So sorry, Joe.
- 2:02Come on. Yeah, I'm literally on runners
- 2:06high right now. I literally, I just won't stop
- 2:08talking about it. It was my longest run I've ever
- 2:12done today and I stayed at my usual pace, which I'm really
- 2:15proud of because normally I go way too fast at the beginning
- 2:18and then I'm basically walking at the end.
- 2:21But I managed to stay there and I'm really.
- 2:23Proud to say. Yeah.
- 2:25But yeah, apart from that, I'm just trying to take half term
- 2:28with two overactive children one day at a time.
- 2:31Yeah, today they both had to spend most of the day in two
- 2:34separate rooms because they are actually unbearable together.
- 2:39We are. What are we Sunday?
- 2:40And Aria has got a bruise that reaches her eyebrow all the way
- 2:44to her ear because Autumn has slammed a door.
- 2:48She's gone to slam a door and Strop and it's hit her and hit
- 2:50Aria in her face, the other side and the handle has just like
- 2:54this. There's literally a handle mark
- 2:56on her face. Oh, she's like handle height as
- 2:58well, isn't she? Because she's 4.
- 3:00So she's like her face in the handle.
- 3:02Oh no, bless her. Oh, that's not good.
- 3:05I'm sorry. You know, I got an injured child
- 3:08last week. I got an injured one this week.
- 3:10I mean, one day I'll be able to, you know, finish a week with
- 3:12them both in one piece. One day.
- 3:14Maybe one day. It'll be fine, I'm sure.
- 3:17Don't worry about it. It's all good.
- 3:18How was your week anyway? Yeah, good.
- 3:20It was my birthday last Friday, which was so, so fun.
- 3:24I took the day off work and we went to Lyme Regis for the
- 3:29weekend, which was so fun. I, my husband took me away for
- 3:34the weekend. We stayed in this really cute
- 3:36little cottage. And then on the whole day on
- 3:38Saturday, we went fossil hunting, which is like my
- 3:40absolute dream. I'm not gonna lie.
- 3:42I was. I was channelling Mary Anning
- 3:44like I was finding dinosaurs. We did actually find some really
- 3:48cool stuff. I got loads of ammonite fossils.
- 3:50I found what I think is an ichthyosaur vertebrae.
- 3:55And I've also found like a fossil trace, like footprint
- 3:59kind of thing, which has turned to pyrite, which is amazing.
- 4:03So yeah, it's been really fun. I really enjoyed that.
- 4:05And this week, obviously we've got half term starting tomorrow.
- 4:09So your half term is different to ours.
- 4:12So our half term is this week so I'm quite lucky because my
- 4:16daughter still goes to nursery so I get 3 days to myself so I'm
- 4:20going to make the most of that. It does technically start
- 4:23tomorrow, but obviously it was the weekend.
- 4:25We get 10 days this this afternoon and some kid was like,
- 4:29oh, we've got a week off. I was like, I literally said to
- 4:31him, do not take those three days away from me.
- 4:34Do not take this at least 10 days and I'm going to own that
- 4:38those 10 days because. Definitely. 10 days of me
- 4:40staying in one piece and not having to scream at somebody
- 4:42else's child. Oh, I get you 100%, I get you.
- 4:46But I did actually take. I've taken a job tomorrow at a
- 4:48nursery so I've got only two days to myself this week, but
- 4:51it's fine those two days I'll be able to do some wallpapering and
- 4:55clean my bathroom properly. So yay, all fun and games isn't
- 4:57it? For a mum over 30 it's all good.
- 5:01Oh dear. OK, so now we're all caught up.
- 5:06We should probably get straight in because we've got some very,
- 5:09very special guests coming on today.
- 5:11And that is the wonderful band McFly.
- 5:15Welcome to Galaxy Crashes podcast.
- 5:17How? Are you Bonjour?
- 5:18All good for. Bonjour.
- 5:24Hello. Hello, hello.
- 5:25There's so many of you. It's so, so exciting to see so
- 5:28many different names on my screen all at the same time.
- 5:31So we'll do this one by one so that we don't all talk all over
- 5:34each other, if that makes sense. Nice.
- 5:36Yeah. So for anyone listening who
- 5:38might not know you yet, tell us a bit about yeah, who's who,
- 5:40Who's what in the band. Sure, Yeah.
- 5:43So I'm Sam and I am the Harry Judd of the band.
- 5:47And I don't go running, unfortunately, like Harry Judd
- 5:49does. I I really should, but I don't
- 5:52unfortunately. Good super.
- 5:57He's next. Scott is next.
- 5:59Scott over to. You Hi, I'm I'm Scott and I play
- 6:03bass in the band, the Dougie of the band.
- 6:07The Dougie of the band, the one and only Dougie pointer Super.
- 6:10Thank you, Scott Lewis. Hi, I'm Lewis and I am the one
- 6:15half of the guitar section and I am the Tom Fletcher.
- 6:19Ah, our man, our man. Tommy F Woody, over to you.
- 6:26Hello, I'm Woody and I'm the other half of the guitar section
- 6:29and I'm the Danny Jones. The Danny Jones of the band.
- 6:33One question for you, one question for you, Woody, Do you,
- 6:36do you have Danny Jones's persona or just the the vocal
- 6:39side of things? Well, you'll have to come along
- 6:42to a show to find that out. We are very much up for that,
- 6:46but just to let you know. He hasn't either.
- 6:50Yeah. But that's a good sales
- 6:52technique though. Yeah, I'm going.
- 6:54To find out. No it's fine, we'll leave it in.
- 6:58We love it. We live really far away from
- 7:02anywhere where anyone plays. I live in literally the I always
- 7:06call it the tower of the country.
- 7:08We are the South, the very southwest of the UK in the
- 7:12bottom part of Cornwall. So I am like 4 hours away from
- 7:16any McFly gig which is so frustrating but you know, if you
- 7:22add Cornwall onto your list for your tour then why not?
- 7:25We'll definitely. We are looking, we are looking
- 7:27the cobblestones down in what is that in Bridgewater at some
- 7:31point? No, Bridgewater, me.
- 7:33That's like 3 hours away from me, yeah.
- 7:36So 3 hours. So far.
- 7:38So Shannon lives in Devon, so she's like Honita near Exeter.
- 7:42So, you know, I'll just say it, you're Shannon.
- 7:44It's fine. Awesome.
- 7:48Thank you so much. Yeah, why not?
- 7:51Thank you so much for introducing yourself.
- 7:53So the next question we've got for you is how did the band come
- 7:57to be? I think, Sam, we've nominated
- 8:00you to to answer this question. Yeah, no worries.
- 8:03So, so I originally was in a Busted tribute band, the Busted
- 8:07Experience, and I was playing drums for those guys and there
- 8:12was a few line up changes there and I heard about Woody.
- 8:15So the bases at the time met Woody and Woody said he was
- 8:18trying to get a McFly tribute band off the off the ground.
- 8:22So after a couple of changes of line up in the Busted band,
- 8:25Woody actually came in to step in as the Charlie Simpson for
- 8:27one of our gigs. And so did Scott to be fair as
- 8:30well. But yeah, so Woody came in and I
- 8:33spoke to Woody and I said, look, do you want to get this McFly
- 8:35band off the ground? He was like, yeah, absolutely,
- 8:37definitely. So I said, yeah, I'm all over
- 8:38that, let's go for it. So me and Woody were yeah, we we
- 8:43got talking and things like that.
- 8:44And then there was only one person for the job of being
- 8:46Dougie, and that was Scott. I used to play a band with Scott
- 8:50God, 2000 And of course, Scott, what was it, 2010, two, 1009?
- 8:55We were playing in the band together back in the day.
- 8:58It must be made. Yeah, Well, yeah.
- 9:00Yeah, it was an original pop punk band we were in and we've
- 9:03we've stayed in touch over the years, but obviously played in
- 9:05different bands. And I just messed him and said
- 9:06look mate, I'm starting the McFly band you in.
- 9:08And he literally immediately messed him back saying yes,
- 9:10that's it, yes. I mean.
- 9:12So that was I'm up for it exactly.
- 9:16And Scott is at the ready. Yeah, and Scott's always been
- 9:20one of Scott's been, always been one of my favourite bassists to
- 9:23play alongside and he's one of the best backing vocalists
- 9:25around as well. So I had to have him in the
- 9:27band. So had that sorted out.
- 9:29You're too. Nice, I know, but.
- 9:31You know, you speak so highly. It's really nice.
- 9:34Yeah, it's true. It's true.
- 9:35And then, and then the, the last piece of the puzzle was trying
- 9:38to get the Tom Fletcher. So we reached out to a few
- 9:42friends of ours, like close friends who we know already.
- 9:45And a lot of them, they, they were up for it, but they just
- 9:47didn't fit the bill of Tom Fletcher, IE they couldn't get
- 9:50the right picture, the voice, or they didn't have the right
- 9:52persona. So I put, I put an add on, join
- 9:54my band and we put all over Facebook and stuff.
- 9:56And then we just got an e-mail the blue from 2 chaps.
- 9:59One of them was Lewis. And so we auditioned them both
- 10:03auditioned the first chap. He was really good, but just
- 10:07didn't fit the bill for us, unfortunately.
- 10:09So we auditioned Lewis the next day and immediately, as soon as
- 10:13he started singing one for the radio, we went, Yep, that's our
- 10:15Tom Fletcher. And yeah, so we got Lewis in and
- 10:20we, we didn't know Lewis at all before.
- 10:22So we got to know him over the last year or so or like a few
- 10:24months or whatever. And yeah, we've just been
- 10:27working together really hard to to try and, you know, get this
- 10:30this whole project off the ground and get gigging and get
- 10:33content out there and stuff. So that's how the back story the
- 10:35band's built up. Also what a great song for like
- 10:39a a audition. Sorry, my screen just went
- 10:43black. Yeah, we, we picked songs that
- 10:47were yeah, yeah, we picked songs made that end up by Tom.
- 10:50So we done like, yeah, one for the radio.
- 10:52I can't remember the others now and then, but we it was mainly
- 10:54Tom driven songs that we picked and to be completely Lewis just
- 10:59smashed them all literally on our first rehearsal of us
- 11:01getting together. We've never played together
- 11:02before. He just literally hit every
- 11:04single and we're like, yeah, that that's that's the one.
- 11:05We're we're ready now. We're.
- 11:06Good to go. He's got a very unique voice,
- 11:09isn't he? Tom Fletcher?
- 11:10I mean, they all do in their own way, but I think.
- 11:12Let's go with high. Yeah, hi.
- 11:16His great word. Oh my God, his range is insane.
- 11:19So for for background, you guys probably don't know much about
- 11:23us if you haven't listened to our other episodes, but we're
- 11:26both musical theatre trained, so we did a lot of performing
- 11:30ourselves in a very different way to what you do.
- 11:33Yeah, we did try gigging once and it was an absolute fail.
- 11:37Yeah, just the two of us. But we we're very much like
- 11:41understanding of vocal abilities and how hard it is to perform
- 11:45live. And like, that's why I think
- 11:46we're so obsessed with the band because we know they are live
- 11:50singers. It must be quite difficult as
- 11:51well-being like a tribute band, people coming and like expecting
- 11:54to see, you know, that sort of persona from the.
- 11:58Yeah, because the band are proper like they like put on a
- 12:01show. Yeah, they're very like
- 12:03entertaining, aren't they? Yeah.
- 12:06And my question was why McFly? I know like you mentioned that
- 12:09you were in a busted experience band and that you sort of got
- 12:13the idea from there. But was it always going to be
- 12:15McFly? Did it sort of like happen
- 12:17naturally or there any other like ideas flying around us to
- 12:20sort of tribute bands or but? Always McFly bands there with
- 12:23with myself. McFly wasn't really on my radar
- 12:26to being a tribute band. It was only when it was
- 12:28mentioned to me that Woody's looking to start with a tribute
- 12:30band, I was like, oh, actually that might be a lot of fun, to
- 12:34be honest. And then that's then I was like
- 12:36pursuing Woody to get this, this project started and we just
- 12:39carried on from there. So no, it was always going to be
- 12:42McFly. Just, it wasn't on my radar
- 12:44personally. But I know Woody had sort of, he
- 12:47wanted to get something off, off the ground with this.
- 12:49I don't know if Woody's got anything he wanted to add on to
- 12:51that. Yeah, so, so for me what it is
- 12:54is I've been in tribute bands for the last 10 years.
- 12:57Nice. The the main one being a status
- 12:59Quo tribute band and. Oh cool.
- 13:02I'm playing to a lot of old people, I'm not going to lie.
- 13:05Like look at the audience and it's all like shiny heads and
- 13:08grey hair. So nothing.
- 13:10Wrong with the big grey hair. I thought it's time for a bit of
- 13:13a change and I've seen McFly for quite a few years consecutive
- 13:18and just the energy that we've given out.
- 13:20The crowds were loving it and I thought, OK, could be on to
- 13:25something here. So I went online, looked to see
- 13:26if there's any like McFly tribute bands, and there was a
- 13:29couple of like Mcbusted ones. But yeah, there weren't really
- 13:33many around. So I thought, OK, we like there
- 13:35could be like a market opening here for this.
- 13:38Yeah, definitely. Pretty much what we did with
- 13:40podcasting. Shan, don't you think we did the
- 13:42same thing? We wanted to start a podcast.
- 13:44Is there a McFly podcast? There was one very small one in
- 13:46America and we were like, well, we live in the UK.
- 13:48We're a bit bit different. We're going to give it a go and
- 13:50here we are. So, you know, I love that.
- 13:52That's awesome. Amazing.
- 13:53Thank you so much for sharing your origins story.
- 13:57It's always nice to know where you guys have come from.
- 14:00Yeah, how's the online reaction been since forming the band?
- 14:03Are you getting loads of like 30 year old mums reliving their
- 14:06youth or is that just us? The, the, the, the plan with the
- 14:11band, when we first go together, the plan was to build the online
- 14:14presence first. So it was not go out gigging
- 14:17straight away. First we've got to build the
- 14:19set. I've got to make all the kind of
- 14:21backing tracks or the metronomes.
- 14:22I'm making all the videos at the moment to when we do the live
- 14:24show, there's going to be all visuals and stuff as well.
- 14:27So along with that, we've got to build the online brand.
- 14:30So we were just working on getting like TikTok and
- 14:32Instagram sort of up to speed. And so far the response we've
- 14:36got is pretty positive. I've got to say it's, it's been
- 14:39really, you're good. You get the odd person, you
- 14:41know, who comments saying, oh, you know, why are you tributing
- 14:44the band? None of them are dead yet.
- 14:45You know, it's like, well, you know, we're tributing the music,
- 14:48you know, or there's there's people who comment saying, oh,
- 14:50why do people do this? Why not just going to say the
- 14:52real band? It's like, well, we're doing
- 14:54this to make it more accessible to people.
- 14:56People who might not be able to travel to can't.
- 14:58Afford. It yeah, all kind of thought
- 14:59exactly right so that's why we do and also just because we all
- 15:02enjoy playing the music as well so yeah, people.
- 15:05Need to grow up? Yeah.
- 15:06And I will say a lot of our demographic, I've got to say a
- 15:09lot of our demographic though, who follow us online are people
- 15:12who are, we're all in our like in our 30s.
- 15:15And apart from I think Lewis, you're Woody's the youngest,
- 15:18Woody's the youngest. So a lot of, a lot of our
- 15:20followers in their 30s, some are, you know, older.
- 15:22We do get a lot of like the younger view audience as well.
- 15:25So it's a, it's a whole range of honestly, but we know the ones
- 15:28who are like our age, they're kind of are probably really
- 15:30living their youth very much like Busted fans as well.
- 15:33So yeah, it's, it's just, that's what we're getting.
- 15:35So that's what we're finding so far of our sort.
- 15:38Of our audience. I will say also, since starting
- 15:41the podcast, we've realised that there is there's actually a lot
- 15:44of younger. Oh my God, I was just about to
- 15:46say the same thing. We're so on the same wavelength.
- 15:48We spend way too much time talking about McFly.
- 15:51There is the same like I thought it was just like people who
- 15:54listened to them when they were like my age, when they were
- 15:57younger. And from starting this podcast
- 15:59we've realised that it's like 1617 year olds that listen to
- 16:02them and I just think I their music is like kind of timeless.
- 16:06It's just fun, isn't it? And it's an yeah, the age range
- 16:09seems to go from like like mid teenagers to like 40-50 year old
- 16:13women and men as well. Not, you know, putting men out
- 16:16of the, but a lot of women. But one thing that we will warn
- 16:19you about the McFly fandom is they can get a bit Cray Cray,
- 16:24which is something that we've we've witnessed.
- 16:27They are very feisty and they're very patriotic, kind of with
- 16:31McFly, aren't they? Let's put it that way.
- 16:33Everybody has their opinions. And, you know, you're new to the
- 16:36scene. I'm sure you will experience it
- 16:38like we have. But just just, you know, just
- 16:41keep your eye out for it because they can be crazy, Yeah.
- 16:44When we, when when I played, when I played down in the
- 16:47cobblestones with the busted experience.
- 16:49Obviously the demographics are, you know, because we're
- 16:51supporting a Blink 182 tribute and the demographic was like
- 16:55pretty much 30s and above. Probably a few like younger
- 16:58ones. But yeah, they will.
- 17:00And a bit crazy as well. Like especially when like year
- 17:023000, it just went crazy in there.
- 17:04It was. Yeah, God is the 30 year olds
- 17:06that are the Cray. Cray is not the younger ones.
- 17:10We can't go. Clubbing anymore, That's our
- 17:11form of clubbing. You know, we get our kids from
- 17:14going to see live music. That is it.
- 17:17That is it. I love it.
- 17:19My other question was what sort of songs do you get requested a
- 17:22lot, like to put in your live sets?
- 17:24Is it something that like you've made your set list based on the
- 17:27things that you love, or are you sort of trying to think about
- 17:30what the audience might want from your sets?
- 17:32Well, I'll, I'll hand this one over to Woody, because Woody's
- 17:34actually the one who's put the set together because he's seen
- 17:37McFly the most out of all of us. Nice.
- 17:40So, So what, what I've done really is I've looked over the
- 17:43last sort of like four or five years at the McFly setlists just
- 17:49to sort of see what they do live because they know what goes down
- 17:51well at a concert. You know, they've put some songs
- 17:54in before that might not have worked well so they haven't
- 17:55played it since. So I've kind of all, all the
- 18:00like ones that they've, they've done live that have been like
- 18:04consistent, I've put into the setlist because they're kind of
- 18:07you have to do them because that's your hits, you've got all
- 18:10about you. You've got, obviously you've got
- 18:115 colours, you know, you've got your staple songs that you have
- 18:14to do to keep say, just like the General Panthers happy.
- 18:18You know, if someone comes to us, it isn't necessarily a McFly
- 18:20fan, they, they expect to hear those songs because that's what
- 18:23they know. But we've also sort of tried to
- 18:26put in a few, I say rarer ones, but some of the ones that they
- 18:30don't necessarily do live much can.
- 18:35You tell us which ones. Well, we've been rehearsing up,
- 18:39I'll give you one. We've been rehearsing up Wild
- 18:40and Young that was in the set for, that was in the set for
- 18:45what, 2, two years, three years And then and then it got
- 18:47dropped. So, you know, we've put that in
- 18:50a set and there's a couple of others, but I don't want to give
- 18:53too much away because no, don't. No, no, come on, enjoy yourself.
- 18:57Thank you for sharing. I love that though, because when
- 19:00I was, like, creating the lyric lockdown quiz, I was like, oh, I
- 19:03don't know, like, which songs to do because I was like, I don't
- 19:06know you guys. So we didn't know, like, what
- 19:08sort of McFly songs are you like doing the generic, you know,
- 19:11popular ones? Are you doing a couple of
- 19:13obscure ones or? So I was like, made it quite
- 19:16easy. And I'm sort of regretting that
- 19:17now. I feel like I should have put a
- 19:18few more harder songs into the list because knowing those, you
- 19:23know, if you know those ones and you're probably going to know a
- 19:25lot more of the more obscure ones.
- 19:27So amazing. Thank you so much.
- 19:29Yeah, why not? We love an obscure song.
- 19:32Super. Thank you so much.
- 19:33Before I we move on to the next section.
- 19:35I did. I want to ask one more thing and
- 19:36that was if you guys take inspiration from anywhere else.
- 19:40I know you're a tribute band, so obviously McFly are like you're
- 19:43all about the the band and the sound and all of that, but I'd
- 19:45be interested to know sort of if you guys have any other musical
- 19:48influence that you sort of look up to.
- 19:52Yeah, but for me personally, I'm a bit of a metalhead, you see.
- 19:55So I like all metal music and heavy guitars.
- 19:59Not so much screaming, but it's screaming tied in with singing I
- 20:02like. So bands like Periphery, Yeah,
- 20:05bands like Periphery I really like and Spirit Box, things like
- 20:09that. Really enjoy listening.
- 20:10So, but I like, I listen to anything.
- 20:11That's the thing. I listen to absolutely anything.
- 20:13Blues. I played in Blues bands, pop
- 20:15punk bands, you know, Blink 182, obviously in Green Day, like the
- 20:18my childhood bands who I absolutely love and adore.
- 20:22The. Green Day days was so good.
- 20:25Yeah, exactly. So that's why I kind of hate
- 20:26inspiration from those sorts of that sort of music.
- 20:29But I'll listen to anything. Lush, I love that.
- 20:31And in terms of like the I know there's a few of you.
- 20:34I know that the your lead singers, what kind of
- 20:38inspiration do you guys take? Let's go Woody, what sort of
- 20:42inspiration do you take from other bands?
- 20:44Have you got any other sort of main ones that you like that you
- 20:46sort of take inspiration from? Obviously, yeah, as I mentioned
- 20:49earlier, I've been in the Status Quo tribute band for nearly ten
- 20:53years now and I was a massive Status Quo fan growing up.
- 20:56You know, my my dad, like took me every every year two or three
- 21:00times to go and see them. And like the 70s was, was
- 21:03massive in my house. Like he loved T Rex, he loves
- 21:06sweet, he loves Slade. So like the glam rock era I'm
- 21:10quite, quite fond of. But but for me, yeah, it's got a
- 21:13big status quo. I've seen them the most.
- 21:15And I mean, Francis, the front man, he, he's got a good persona
- 21:19about him and he can really sort of work a crowd.
- 21:22So yeah, I kind of love that. Base myself off him as well as
- 21:26Danny Jones now you know well. Danny.
- 21:28Guitar tech for him, Lewis don't need guitar tech for him, Woody.
- 21:31Yeah, yeah, I've done a couple of festival dates a couple of
- 21:34years ago as a guitar tech for Status Quo.
- 21:36That's good fun. That's so good, So good.
- 21:39Been backstage? Definitely something you should
- 21:41have led with. That is so cool.
- 21:43Yeah, I wear that on a T-shirt of that.
- 21:47Get a little badge with it on. Yeah, I love that.
- 21:50Oh super. Thank you so much.
- 21:54OK, so it's time for this or that McFly edition.
- 21:57No thinking too hard, just vibes that quick fire answers each
- 22:01member answers each question. OK, so one question 4 answers.
- 22:04And the main thing for this is to just go with your gut.
- 22:07Don't think about it too much. OK, we're gonna start.
- 22:10Sam Scott. Who?
- 22:12Last night. Me.
- 22:13Changed her mind about the week before.
- 22:16I couldn't put right, hear me out.
- 22:18It was what was it Saturday night versus down by the lake?
- 22:22And I chose chose Saturday night.
- 22:24And then I was just like, I've made the worst decision.
- 22:26And a week later I was still thinking about it.
- 22:28So let me off. We're going to go.
- 22:30Sam's got Lewis, Woody, OK, Sam's going to start.
- 22:34Nice. OK, first one, five colours in
- 22:36her hair or obviously. Sam.
- 22:40Personally, I, I do, I like obviously, yeah, obviously for
- 22:44me. OK, Scott 5.
- 22:48Colours. Oh, Lewis. 5 colours.
- 22:52And Woody? 5 colours.
- 22:56Oh, OK, nice. I was definitely obviously on
- 22:59that one. I think I was as well.
- 23:02But you hate five and five colours and a hair and.
- 23:04Like it's live colours apart from when it's live and then
- 23:06it's a 10 out of 10. 10 out of 10.
- 23:08Exactly. I'll give you that, yeah.
- 23:11OK, next one. Early McFly as in Teenagers on
- 23:15guitars and Pure Chaos, or later McFly with polished pop rock
- 23:19songs. Do you know what, since their
- 23:23since their newer stuff's come down, I actually preferred it
- 23:25because you just hear it's more of a mature McFly.
- 23:27So some of the songs like really matured and I do I I relate to
- 23:31those a bit more. So yeah, they're they're later
- 23:33stuff for me personally. OK.
- 23:34Later for you Scott, both. Can I have both?
- 23:39No, you can't. Sorry.
- 23:41This is this or that. It's not this or that or both.
- 23:44Oh, OK, I'm going to say later. It kind of hurts me to say later
- 23:51because I like the early stuff too so but I'm going to I'm
- 23:53going to say later. OK, no worries.
- 23:56Go on, Lewis. Such a hard 10.
- 24:01Let's go. I'm going earlier.
- 24:04I'm going earlier. Oh, I love it.
- 24:05I'm going early. I'm going to say later only
- 24:10because I was introduced to them in the later years.
- 24:15Ah, OK, that's fine. Perfect answer.
- 24:17No problem. OK, good.
- 24:18Yeah, I like that one. Right.
- 24:20So next one is Danny's vocals or Tom's vocals.
- 24:27Danny's vocals for me, he's he's got a bit more.
- 24:29I like a grunty vocal, so he's got a good bit of grunt.
- 24:32He's got such a great range as well.
- 24:33Yeah, he's got a really. I'm not disputing Toms, but
- 24:36Danny's just got, he's just got an amazing range of vocal.
- 24:41Good. OK, Super, Scott.
- 24:44I'm going to say Danny, just think he's got a really good
- 24:47range and he just looks good when he's singing.
- 24:49Oh. Yeah, he does.
- 24:50We can agree there, Lewis. I'm going to go Danny just
- 24:55because now I've realised Tom's an absolute pain in the ass to
- 24:58sing, so I'm going to Danny. Okay, okay.
- 25:03And Woody? Let's just put a lot of pressure
- 25:06on me in it so I'm show up. I'm going to say Tom just to
- 25:10just to claw my back for him. Back, back the boy, back the
- 25:14Fletcher. Me and me and Shan would
- 25:16probably be opposites because I'm Tom and Shannon's Danny so.
- 25:20Yeah, but do you know what? I think they're so different
- 25:22because Danny's so like raw and like almost.
- 25:25He makes it look effortless. But Tom is so polished.
- 25:28Do you know what I mean? Unique.
- 25:29That's it. Yeah, I was gonna say clean.
- 25:31His vocals are so clean and. They're just, they don't
- 25:33compliment each other really well.
- 25:35Oh, they. Really do faultless.
- 25:37Definitely so. Well OK, next one playing a tiny
- 25:41sweaty club but everyone knows every lyric.
- 25:43Or a massive festival crowd where only 25% of them are
- 25:47singing. Tiny sweaty club for me.
- 25:50You've done it before and it's a great atmosphere when everyone's
- 25:52singing, no matter the size of the venue, if it's full and
- 25:55they're all singing, it's amazing.
- 25:57OK, good. Love that Scott.
- 26:00Same for me, small club. Lush, Lewis.
- 26:04Yep, small and packed out. Lush and woody.
- 26:09Yeah, full house, small, packed out and sweaty.
- 26:11I love that, and also I think as a viewer I prefer being in a
- 26:16small setting. Than an intimate shows.
- 26:19I miss the intimate shows. They are the best, the intimate.
- 26:22Shows My first McFly gig was literally called the Up Close
- 26:25and Personal Tour and it was just.
- 26:28That's where I saw them as well. Yeah, I can't even remember the
- 26:31first time I actually, that's a lie.
- 26:33I was 11. 9. 2000 and nine, 2008, something like that, yeah.
- 26:37I was 11 and it was powder and Castle and they were supporting
- 26:41busted. Well, I saw them there as well,
- 26:42but my first like, yeah, my first like proper.
- 26:45I've gone to a McFly show. Not I've seen them support
- 26:48Busted, Yeah. Yeah, I get you.
- 26:50I get you. OK, next one.
- 26:53Yeah, next one. So matching outfits or
- 26:56individual style. Depends on the on the event, but
- 27:00individual style for me. Just put a short answer to it.
- 27:03OK, Scott. Same for me, individual style.
- 27:07Nice Lewis. I'm going to go individual
- 27:11because I could not see us all wearing matchy matching Dungy's
- 27:15dungarees. Why not?
- 27:17Why not? They're Woody.
- 27:21Yeah, I'm going to have to go individual as well.
- 27:23I hate matching. There you go.
- 27:26Some bands really work matching. Although there's been a couple
- 27:28of photo shoots with McFly where I'm all down for matching suits
- 27:32because the suits, yeah, black and white suits, I'm so.
- 27:35OK with yeah, what was the, what was the, what was the gig, the
- 27:38shows they did where they were all wearing the matching tartan
- 27:40outfits and stuff and they looked pretty cool there.
- 27:41That was like Love is easy vibe, wasn't it?
- 27:44Oh yeah, very much love is easy vibe.
- 27:46Definitely I I love that they can just get away with anything
- 27:49though They really can. Like they all have their own
- 27:51individual styles. If you think Dougie, you think
- 27:53dungarees, you think, you think more like suit jacket and tie.
- 27:57You think Danny. I think he's more like like
- 27:59baggy T-shirt or like, you know, band T-shirt or something.
- 28:02And then Harry's always got like a tight T-shirt and like, jeans
- 28:05on it. I just.
- 28:06Oh, I love. Yeah.
- 28:07I love all that. I'll allow matching if we ever
- 28:09do a Backstreet Boys tribute. Yeah, there.
- 28:12You. Go white suits.
- 28:14Why not? Why not?
- 28:16OK, fine, all this or that. Would you rather meet McFly in
- 28:192004 or meet McFly now? Me McFly now, just because, you
- 28:25know, talk about the journey they've been on and go back to
- 28:27my first answer or the second answer, it was like how much
- 28:31they've been chilled over the years.
- 28:32Yeah. Love that.
- 28:34That's a great answer, Scott. Yeah, I'd say meet them now, go
- 28:40for a little drink after a gig. That'd be cool.
- 28:43Oh my gosh, imagine that would be so good, Lewis.
- 28:47Yeah, definitely. Now, definitely.
- 28:49OK. And Woody?
- 28:52Yeah, yeah, same for me. I reckon it has been now only
- 28:54because, you know, they've been on the same journey all together
- 28:58for so long, so they've got more advice to give.
- 29:02Definitely as a musician. Stop doing a tribute band.
- 29:07They'd never say that I'm I'm sure they'd be fully supportive
- 29:11I think. I don't have an answer for that
- 29:12one. I couldn't answer that.
- 29:14I think that's really hard because in my head I'm like, I'd
- 29:16love, like you guys have said, I'd love to like meet them now
- 29:19and talk to them about, you know, their whole journey and
- 29:21like what it's been like to be in the band.
- 29:23And like, we, we know so much about them now.
- 29:25But also, there's part of me that's like, I might have stand
- 29:28a chance with them in 2004. He's straight, we're young and.
- 29:34Just ask Danny why he's straight there so much.
- 29:36Yeah, I was nerdy. They were nerdy.
- 29:38I could maybe I could get in there then, but I just don't
- 29:41stand a chance now. You'd be a groupie, would you?
- 29:45I would have definitely been a groupie mate.
- 29:47I'd be a groupie now if they'd let me and if I didn't have to
- 29:50stay at home with my child, I'd be on that door bus.
- 29:53You know me. It's time for Song of the Week.
- 29:59And this week we are talking all about McFly song She Left Me.
- 30:18Oh yeah this song has such early era McFly energy.
- 30:21I actually really love this song.
- 30:24My rating for this song is literally you'll be so shocked.
- 30:279 out of 10. I actually can't believe I'm
- 30:29seeing this. Yeah, it's 9 out of 10, and then
- 30:32it's 10 out of 10 for the acoustic version and then like
- 30:3511 out of 10 for it live. Wow.
- 30:38I love this song. It's not my it's not Can I just
- 30:40say I'm giving myself this because this isn't even my
- 30:44highest rated song on the album. OK and I've got 9 out of 10 so
- 30:48don't judge my. I was to say 11 out of 10.
- 30:50How can you get faster than? That, well, I loved.
- 30:54I love it live. I do.
- 30:55It's one of those songs where you're like, you know, holding
- 30:57your metaphorical lighters in the air, you know, it's, it's
- 31:01such a good song. It's my highest rated song on
- 31:03this album so far. I just think it's really
- 31:05deserved. It has the storytelling vibe,
- 31:08which we all know I love. It's got like a good Moody
- 31:11undertone and it's just a wonderful song, a proper sing
- 31:14along. I just, I think it's brilliant
- 31:17and I like the little. I think.
- 31:19I know you've written it, but when I was listening to it
- 31:20earlier and I was trying to think about my notes, so I was
- 31:22like, I think I genuinely quote at least once a week.
- 31:27Yeah, man, loads. So yeah.
- 31:34So what's your rating? OK, so for this song, I feel
- 31:38like it's one of those songs that feels really simple on the
- 31:41surface, but it really does like stick in your head and I cannot
- 31:46lie, it gives me proper like grease lightning musical vibes.
- 31:50It's very stranded at the drive in meets hopelessly devoted to
- 31:55you, which you know, I am all for.
- 31:58So I'm going to give I'm going to give it a 7.
- 32:01I feel like I'm I quite like this song again, it's sorry.
- 32:05It's not one of my favourites, but it's definitely up there.
- 32:09It's one that once I've listened to it like once or twice, I
- 32:12again am walking around the house singing it or humming it.
- 32:15Also, can we just talk about the harmonies and the backing?
- 32:19Vocals, that's what I mean. The acoustic version is just
- 32:23like there. I have no notes on the acoustic
- 32:26version. And I love the little like
- 32:28echoes that, you know, they do like the anymore anymore in the
- 32:32back. So kiss.
- 32:34Very hopelessly devoted. Now you've said it.
- 32:36I can't not. Hear grease.
- 32:38It is so grease it's unreal. And can we also talk about how
- 32:41it very, very much mimics Westlife and Boys Own vibes?
- 32:46Yeah, like. I can see the life 2 steps
- 32:48sitting on stools standing up. See.
- 32:51I can see the two step with the click, you know, like the yeah,
- 32:54that's how I see it. Like the Westlife 2 step with
- 32:57the kicks. It's insane.
- 32:59And also the I left messages after the tone where they the
- 33:03music changed. So it sounds like it sounds like
- 33:07he's on the answer machine. And then he says, yeah, really?
- 33:10And then Danny goes. It's the Yemen.
- 33:12Man loads like he's American. I'm like, dude, you're not
- 33:15American. You're from England, you're from
- 33:17Bolton of all places. You cannot.
- 33:21I was a Bolton Wondrous fan when I was younger.
- 33:24I don't. Know, but like they've got a
- 33:25very cause. Of Danny Jones.
- 33:27They've got very thick accent. Don't put an American accent on.
- 33:29We all know you're from Bolton. Do you know what I mean?
- 33:31Yeah. So now we've given our ratings
- 33:35out of 10, we're going to come over to you guys talking about
- 33:38the song she left me. Tell us what your rating is.
- 33:40And if you've got anything you want to tell us about what you
- 33:42like or dislike about the song, then this is your chance.
- 33:45So let's go to Sam first. Sure.
- 33:48Yeah. I mean, I'm not much of A ballad
- 33:49kind of guy. I I like, I like fast.
- 33:52They met. The hard songs.
- 33:54Yeah. I mean, yeah, I'd probably give
- 33:56it like a A7 or six. It gives me the beauty school
- 33:59dropout vibes from Greece. Yes.
- 34:01Yeah, absolutely. That's the song.
- 34:03That's the one I was thinking of.
- 34:04Beauty school. Yeah, when I was listening to
- 34:06earlier, when I was listening to earlier in the week, I was like,
- 34:09yeah, it's, it's, it's like very much Greece and that beautiful
- 34:11dropout one. Yeah.
- 34:13And like McFly always they hit the they now the vocals, don't
- 34:16they? Harmonies and stuff.
- 34:17You can't fault them at all. That's what gives it such a like
- 34:20that sort of rating. But ballads just aren't really
- 34:23my thing, personally. I get you.
- 34:25And also, this was 2004 McFly, so this is like young, young
- 34:30McFly. It's not like mature McFly
- 34:32thing. Yeah, I feel like I'd love to
- 34:33hear them because they haven't sang this on the set list for
- 34:36quite a while. I can't remember the last time I
- 34:37heard this live. And they've probably done it on
- 34:40a tour at some point, like as an added song, but I don't remember
- 34:43the last time I heard it. I'd love to hear them sing it
- 34:44now. OK, let's go to.
- 34:47Is it Scott next? Yes, Scott, let's go to you.
- 34:51Yeah, I'd say pretty similar to what Sam said.
- 34:55I mean, I prefer more of a heavier or faster sort of track,
- 34:59so it's not really for me, but it's still a really good song.
- 35:03Vocals are lovely on it and it's just got a cool feel, like a
- 35:05school disco kind of feel. So I'll probably give it a
- 35:09generous 7, but it's just not really for me.
- 35:11OK. So we're quite, we're quite
- 35:13averaging out on sort of seven anyway, so that's good.
- 35:16Lewis, over to you. Yeah, it's kind of an
- 35:19interesting one for me. Would I listen to the album
- 35:23version? I wouldn't probably choose to
- 35:25put it on, but it has its time and a place.
- 35:29Definitely acoustically stripped back.
- 35:32It's it's really good. It's great.
- 35:35I think I remember a video of them, they did it like a
- 35:38backstage warm up and someone was just recording.
- 35:41It was just acoustic guitar and they were just backstage warming
- 35:44up that one earlier. Yeah and yeah.
- 35:46We've we've posted that on our our Instagram to promote this.
- 35:51Episode. Oh right, yeah, that that is
- 35:54perfect. So yeah, the album, I think it's
- 35:57a four or five. From Ratings.
- 36:00Yeah, I think you're right. Album four or five, but in that
- 36:04setting it's a 7 or an 8. OK, super.
- 36:07We're happy with that. And finally, over to you then,
- 36:10Woody. Yeah, I'm very much with Lewis
- 36:13on this one. I'd give it a four or five for
- 36:15me with the album, you know, it's their early days, so
- 36:19they're not really like as established and accomplished as
- 36:24they are now, which is why I think when they've done it
- 36:27backstage, acoustically, it was a million times better than what
- 36:31it is on the early album. But you know, like, for me, for
- 36:36me, it's quite a forgetful song. I'd much rather be slapped in
- 36:39the face with a guitar and I'd remember that song, do you know
- 36:41what I mean? Whereas a bit, so a bit more
- 36:45acoustically, yes. It's not really for me.
- 36:47But you know, it's a sweet song at the end of the day.
- 36:49I agree actually, because I mean as much I do like the song, but
- 36:52one of the points that I've put down, like while I was
- 36:55listening, I sort of write some notes and I've put the contrast
- 36:58between the upbeat music and this is very, very different.
- 37:02And actually, if you think about Mcfly's like early sound, it was
- 37:06very like pop rock, you know, like it was really guitar heavy
- 37:10and very much like, because they were really different.
- 37:13It was the first proper like other than Busted, they were the
- 37:16first proper like pop band that were using guitars and playing.
- 37:20Their music drive? Yeah, and that was massive for
- 37:23the time because the noughties was very pop heavy, wasn't it?
- 37:26Let's face it, it was very much back in tracks, covers of old
- 37:30music, like girly pop songs. We had a lot of like Britney,
- 37:34Rihanna, Westlife, Boyzone, like all of these and then like McFly
- 37:38come out of the woodwork. You know, we have a bit of
- 37:39Busted, then Busted disappear and then McFly become massive
- 37:43because they actually were writing their own music, singing
- 37:46their own music, playing their own music and creating songs
- 37:49that has such. It was the IT was the era of
- 37:52cheese. Yes, it was definitely.
- 37:55And you were right. And that wasn't a bad thing
- 37:57because we actually, we love a bit of cheese.
- 38:01Definitely. But you're right in that like
- 38:03there is a massive contrast between the sort of upbeat
- 38:07guitar heavy songs and this. This isn't that sort of vibe, is
- 38:10it? So it doesn't really for me fit
- 38:13into their like early sound. But like you said, it does work
- 38:16really well live. You know, I think a lot of their
- 38:20songs are different live. When you hear them live, you can
- 38:23sort of just see it in a different way.
- 38:24I think it's underrated though. I do think it's underrated.
- 38:27I think that actually a lot of people probably wouldn't know
- 38:31this song. Unless you were like a quite a
- 38:33big McFly fan, you're unlikely to know this song because it
- 38:37was. Was it even released as a
- 38:39single? I don't know whether it was even
- 38:41released. It was on the album, wasn't it?
- 38:42But I don't think it was even released as a single.
- 38:44So interesting, interesting things to think about.
- 38:48But thank you so much for giving us your ratings.
- 38:49What we're going to do now, we would really love to get your
- 38:53opinions on some of the songs that we've already covered
- 38:55because we're on episode 17. So we've half of these episodes
- 38:59of McFly and half of them are Busted.
- 39:01So we alternate each week, but we'd really like to get your
- 39:04opinions on the McFly songs that we've covered so far and, and a
- 39:08few that are to come in an upcoming week.
- 39:11So what I'd like to do first is think about your rank.
- 39:15Rank out of 10, because that's what we do.
- 39:17And like I said before, Shannon has had some brutal ratings,
- 39:21Haven't you? Shannon shown up to it.
- 39:23I'm just do you know what? I'll I'm just I am such a like
- 39:28Radioactive and onwards aren't those are my albums?
- 39:32And I'm early McFly, so we're that sort of like the opposite,
- 39:34aren't we? I love these early albums.
- 39:40Tim. Do you next bit Shan?
- 39:42Oh, sorry. Waiting for you.
- 39:45Literally just stay on the screen.
- 39:47Yeah. So we would love to get your
- 39:48ratings on them. And now we are only ranking them
- 39:50against other McFly songs, so not the wider songs of pop rock.
- 39:55So just compared to their other discography songs really.
- 39:59That's something that a lot of people like.
- 40:00I think when we rank them, I want to make sure people know
- 40:04that we're ranking them against themselves.
- 40:06Not about, not against like pop rock songs of the naughties in
- 40:10general because they'd be a lot higher than some of the songs
- 40:13that were out in the naughties. So what we're going to do is I'm
- 40:16going to, instead of coming to each of you for each song
- 40:19because that's going to take forever.
- 40:20And as lovely as that would be, I'm going to give you a song
- 40:23each. OK, so we're starting at the
- 40:25very top with Sam and five Colours in a hair.
- 40:28Sam, what would we rate 5 colours in a hair and why?
- 40:32I would give it a good solid 8, maybe even 9.
- 40:35It's the iconic song, isn't it? Is the iconic song.
- 40:39I do prefer the live version than the album version.
- 40:42Even when it was released there was the American version, wasn't
- 40:44it? Which one?
- 40:44I think they actually do live now.
- 40:47So yeah, I'll give it a solid 8. OK, we're up for that.
- 40:50No worries at all. So Scott, over to you.
- 40:53Yours is obviously Oh. Really good song, I love playing
- 40:59the bass line. It's.
- 41:01Actually a really cool bass band actually, so I'm going to give
- 41:04it a nine just because of how much I enjoy playing it.
- 41:09That's so bold. I like that bold and brave lush
- 41:13Okie Dokie Lewis, We're going to you next with room on the third
- 41:17floor. Sticking with the highest scores
- 41:19here, it's a solid 9, especially live as well when you're in an
- 41:26arena and they're doing that song and the whole crowd is
- 41:29singing the Na Na Nas, that is a special moment.
- 41:33So good, so good. We agree.
- 41:35Actually, I think Room on the 3rd Floor was one of our lower
- 41:38rated track songs, but one of the higher rated live songs
- 41:41because we completely agree and that you cannot not join into it
- 41:44when it's live. So good.
- 41:47OK, Woody, over to you with that girl.
- 41:50That goal I think I'm going to have to give a a solid 9.
- 41:53I think the live version is better than the album version
- 41:58and especially with the double guitar solo in the middle with
- 42:00the guitar harmony that just hits different and I think it's
- 42:03the energy of all of them that a moment for that double.
- 42:07Guitar solo. Just the energy of all four of
- 42:09them on that song is just immense.
- 42:12It's just such a brilliant song and you can see that they love
- 42:14it so much. I just think it's so fun.
- 42:18It's so fun. Like how can you listen to that
- 42:20and not smile? Like that's one of the songs
- 42:21that if I was in a bad mood or I was feeling low, I'd get in the
- 42:24car and put that on and I'd be fine within a few minutes.
- 42:27Like so good, so good. OK, back to Sam then hypnotised.
- 42:32I'm ashamed to say I don't actually know this song.
- 42:36To be fair, I don't like it. So it was one of my lower rate.
- 42:39It was one of. My lower one of the other lads
- 42:41might have a review on on that one.
- 42:43Anybody else know Hypnotised? Yeah, I've heard it from time to
- 42:48time. It's alright.
- 42:50Nothing really to shout I'm about quite forgetful.
- 42:54But when it's on and you haven't heard it for a while, you'll
- 42:56listen to it. Yeah, definitely.
- 42:58I agree. Lush.
- 42:59OK, Saturday night then. So, Scott, over to you for
- 43:02Saturday night. Love it, love that song.
- 43:06Yes. Brilliant.
- 43:07Song What's your rating? 10. 10/10 for Saturday night.
- 43:14Oh my gosh, I love that that is. Bold.
- 43:16Such a good song. Bold.
- 43:19That's accurate. Oh.
- 43:21Well. It's just pure love.
- 43:23It is pure love. Why I don't mind Saturday night.
- 43:26I don't. It's not like my top song, but I
- 43:29don't mind it. I've I've decided I like Down By
- 43:31the Lake better, so. Oh dear.
- 43:34OK, Lewis, we're cut. We're coming to you Lewis now
- 43:37with one of my actually, this is probably or so far my lowest
- 43:41rated McFly song. I think I rated this A2.
- 43:45We've met this girl. That's a harsh score.
- 43:49I know I'm so. This is.
- 43:51Thank you. This is a upbeat, happy, cheery
- 43:54song. This is.
- 43:55So but I just hate it, I hope. It's.
- 43:59So weird. It's not you like the cheers.
- 44:01It's just not strong, is it? It's not strong lyrically.
- 44:05And it's just the problem is, is it's a bloody ear worm.
- 44:08And even after I literally slated the shit out of it of the
- 44:11episode, I then went up to my room to put some more shit away.
- 44:13And I was like in my head. Then I met this girl.
- 44:18I was like, why am I singing this bloody song?
- 44:20It was days later and I was still singing it.
- 44:24Oh dear. Go on then, Lewis, tell us what
- 44:26it is you like about it. If a song catches you like that,
- 44:30it deserves more than A2. I'm going in the 5I.
- 44:33Did regret it? You're going 5, OK.
- 44:35I'm going middle ground in the five.
- 44:38OK, no problem Woody, we're going to you with this week's
- 44:42song. So you've already had a bit of
- 44:44time to think about this with She Left Me.
- 44:48Yeah, I'm going to stick with my my four or five on that one if
- 44:54we're going for the album track. Yeah, yeah, no problem.
- 44:56That's fine. So back to Sam, down by the
- 44:59lake. I'm going to put a little cut
- 45:01marker here because again, I'm not familiar with that song.
- 45:05You might want to ask the other the other lads for the.
- 45:07Last two. I play the tribute band Don't
- 45:10Know Bloody Songs. Yeah, that's hilarious.
- 45:13Absolutely hilarious. This is what albums the Room on
- 45:17the 3rd floor album. This is the first album, yeah.
- 45:21Yeah, so. What's the Best Song on the
- 45:22album? Just so.
- 45:23You down by the lake is so good. Anybody want to volunteer for
- 45:26Down by the Lake? I'm going to die.
- 45:30Because I've got this far down in the album.
- 45:34That's OK. Or just fake it, you know it's a
- 45:36good song. Fake it.
- 45:37Fake it till you make it. Lewis, What were you?
- 45:40What were you going to say? Did you, do you like?
- 45:41Do you know this song? Briefly, I don't think I can
- 45:45have much to say about it, but. OK, we'll skip it.
- 45:48We'll skip it. It's fine.
- 45:49Let's go to, OK, there's 2O. No, there's there's the extras
- 45:53as well. OK.
- 45:53If you don't know them, just let us know and we'll just cut them
- 45:56out. So we've got unsaid things.
- 46:01Yeah, I don't know. Takers.
- 46:03Again, it's alright. It's alright when it when it's
- 46:05on, but it's not something I'd put on to listen to.
- 46:09OK, next one is not alone. My eyes are widened.
- 46:15Oh my God. Thank God someone knows it.
- 46:17I was about to have a heart attack.
- 46:20Should we go for not alone then? Should we?
- 46:22Should we like? Let's go.
- 46:23We'll skip to Not Alone. OK, who's going to take Not
- 46:25Alone. Yeah, go on, I'll take it.
- 46:30OK, Woody, tell us what your rating is for not alone.
- 46:34Solid 9, absolute Danny masterpiece.
- 46:36Yes, we agree. How amazing are the?
- 46:42Also, Can you believe that that song is from this album?
- 46:46I know it's so old. It's so old and.
- 46:49It just still stands the test of time doesn't.
- 46:51It Did any of you go to the Busted versus McFly tour?
- 46:55Yes. So you will have seen Danny and
- 46:59Charlie singing Not Alone slash 3:00 AM right?
- 47:02Probably the highlight of the show.
- 47:04I'd say it. Was so good I cried so much.
- 47:08The thing is with Not Alone, when Danny sings it, it's just
- 47:11so much emotion in it and it comes across.
- 47:15It's a completely different light, isn't it, when he sings
- 47:17it, because it's even on the album.
- 47:19It is good and it is emotional, but seeing it live is something
- 47:22else. And then obviously to have
- 47:23Charlie like harmonising with him, Oh my Lord, above it was.
- 47:27Just is that help? No, Isn't it where you hear him
- 47:30singing that line and. He literally.
- 47:33And it's just so he makes it look so effortless.
- 47:37The best ever. Absolutely love it.
- 47:40OK, there was a couple of extra added tracks so the the the last
- 47:45tracks were Surfer Babe. Does anybody know Surfer Babe?
- 47:50That's a bit of Scott in it. Yeah, go on, Scott.
- 47:53Tell us. You know, surfer babe.
- 47:55Absolutely. Great.
- 47:56It's in our set. It's in our set.
- 47:57So yeah. Oh good.
- 48:00Oh, it did this set. It's definitely A10.
- 48:04I think it's. Such a good song.
- 48:07I'm from Cornwall, so Surfer Babe is about people from
- 48:10Cornwall. I mean, I'm not a surfer babe.
- 48:12I always wish I could be. So in my head, I when I sing it,
- 48:16they're singing about me. Yeah.
- 48:18I'm the paddle board babe. I can be the paddle board babe.
- 48:20I tried surfing. I nearly drowned so.
- 48:24And broccoli is the last one. Anybody know broccoli?
- 48:28Yeah, that, that was my wife's one of her favourite songs.
- 48:31I like the the Piano star. You know, the bum bum bum like
- 48:34so. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:36Yeah, I'd give that. I'd give that a good nine.
- 48:38Again, that's probably like a Ballady song that I do like, do
- 48:41like. Absolutely.
- 48:41That's good, yeah. Oh, the story behind it, like
- 48:44the, the storytelling lyrics and me and Shannon are absolute
- 48:47suckers for storytelling lyrics because we listen to a lot of
- 48:50like different artists, but I think our main artists is
- 48:53they're probably Taylor Swift and McFly.
- 48:56And the main reason is because we just love a story.
- 48:59Like when they sing like an actual story.
- 49:01And I think Broccoli is one of those that like gets overlooked.
- 49:04But when you actually listen to it, it's so clever.
- 49:06Like the lyrics are just so. And they're very like of the
- 49:09time we were like 17 and like young and well, they were, I was
- 49:13like way younger than that. I was like 14/13/14 at that
- 49:17point, but like it's, it was one of those really cheesy songs
- 49:20that when you were young you would just sing and understand,
- 49:23you know what he was saying. I love that.
- 49:25Thank you so much for giving us your insights into these songs.
- 49:30We obviously love them all for different reasons and they're
- 49:33definitely some higher ranking than others, but we appreciate
- 49:36them all for what they are. The game time and this one is
- 49:41called Lyric Lockdown. We are going to read out a McFly
- 49:45lyric and you have to tell us what McFly song it is from.
- 49:48No Googling because we'll know. No humming quietly to
- 49:51yourselves, because we'll hear you.
- 49:54Bonus points if you can tell us what album it's from as well.
- 49:57And minus points if you argue with each other about it for too
- 50:00long. We know.
- 50:02We know how it is. We've done it ourselves.
- 50:04OK, guys. Are you ready?
- 50:06Nice, yes? Super go on then Shan.
- 50:09Nice. We're starting off quite nice
- 50:10and easy. Houston, we've got a problem.
- 50:13Even ground control couldn't stop them.
- 50:18Oh, Blondie. Have a think, We'll let you sing
- 50:22it in your head. I I I've been working on the
- 50:24backing track for this song. I can't remember the top.
- 50:27Of it now. Oh, go on studio.
- 50:30Yeah, yeah. Well.
- 50:32Done. Do we know the album?
- 50:37Motion in the ocean. It's motion in the ocean.
- 50:39Yes, well done. That's our that's our opening
- 50:43song. Working on the track for that
- 50:44for weeks. Oh I love that though Stargirl
- 50:48is a favourite. I love it so much.
- 50:50OK next one. Never thought a guy like me
- 50:53would find it. I would repeat it if I could
- 50:55rewind it. Happiness.
- 51:01Yes, well done album. The young dumb thrills.
- 51:08Well done. Super job.
- 51:11OK, Shan. What a song.
- 51:13OK, the rumours spreading round that she cooks in the nude but
- 51:17she don't care. 5 colours. 5 colours.
- 51:21Nice one, Nice one album is. Be the first one, wouldn't it?
- 51:28I guess that's brilliant room on the first floor.
- 51:30Yes it is well done super job. Next one living in a fantasy,
- 51:35don't even know reality. When you start talking, I start
- 51:38walking. I've been lies, lies, lies.
- 51:41Yeah, I'm so glad you did that. I just mouthed it.
- 51:43Radioactive in it. Yeah.
- 51:45Radioactive. So good.
- 51:46So good. Two points.
- 51:48Love that, Shannon. Nice.
- 51:51OK, who's going to play for the kids with long hair when nobody
- 51:55cares? How will they cope with the
- 51:57pain? Where did all the guitars go?
- 52:01The guitars. Guys.
- 52:03I'm singing a lot in my head. I was like nodding away.
- 52:06Album. Yeah.
- 52:08Power to. Play.
- 52:09Well done you. Guys I should have picked.
- 52:11Harder ones? I've picked easy ones, I should
- 52:14have picked harder ones. Where where the guitars go, I
- 52:18show real songs. I listen to that about a million
- 52:20times. Song man, so good.
- 52:24OK, last one. That's when she said to me she
- 52:28wasn't coming round for tea. I'll be.
- 52:31Broccoli. Yeah.
- 52:35So good album. That's a good question, that one
- 52:40on the third floor. Yeah, we just talked about it.
- 52:43It was on the on the list, Yeah, 3 on the third floor.
- 52:48Well done. 24681012 out of 12 guys.
- 52:52That was absolutely Immaculate. Well done.
- 52:55We are very, very impressed. And considering you're a McFly
- 52:57tribute band, I'd expect no less, so well done.
- 53:03Now we have to ask. This is Galaxy crashes after
- 53:06all, despite the fact that it is most likely a very obvious
- 53:10answer. You are a McFly tribute band,
- 53:14but rules are rules and we ask every guest the same question.
- 53:18Yes. Are you Team Busted or Team
- 53:22McFly? And you cannot sit on the fence
- 53:24with this. I don't think they will, so
- 53:28we're going to go to Sam first. Team McFly obviously I liked.
- 53:33I like both bands, but McFly holder a special place in my
- 53:36heart because it's where I met my now wife back in 2009 at the
- 53:42Up Close and Personal tour at the Cliff Pavillion South End.
- 53:46I met her in the crowd. Dougie threw a pizza at her and
- 53:48hit her in the face and she stunk of anchovies.
- 53:52And. Exactly right.
- 53:54Yeah, and. She stunk of.
- 53:55Anchovies, because I got that. Yeah, so that's where that's
- 53:57where I met my wife and then we went and saw them a few times
- 54:00after that. But yeah, McFly for me just
- 54:02because they they're close meaning to me.
- 54:04Love that. That's pure.
- 54:06That's pure Dougie chaos, isn't it?
- 54:07Throwing a pizza at somewhere. Yeah, I think they they timed
- 54:11each town they went to so. Good.
- 54:14I was at the same gig serve, didn't even realise.
- 54:17Oh really? Oh wow.
- 54:18Oh. My God, that's amazing.
- 54:21Love that revelation on the podcast.
- 54:25Fantastic. OK, Scott, we're going to go to
- 54:27you for your team Buster dot team McFly team.
- 54:31McFly all the way. Love it.
- 54:33Tell us why. Jeff just, I just think they're
- 54:37just great. Just like playing the songs
- 54:42catchy. They've just got a whole full
- 54:44range catalogue wise. So you've got your fast songs in
- 54:48there. You've got obviously your super
- 54:50slow songs as well, just a good variety.
- 54:53Whereas I think Busted tend to be just constantly fast.
- 54:56They have a couple of slow bits, but yeah, they do.
- 54:59There's definitely more range I would say with McFly in
- 55:02different styles as well. Yeah, definitely.
- 55:05Awesome. Okie, Dokie Lewis, over to you.
- 55:09Yeah, a tricky 1. So I am a recent convert, so
- 55:12maybe I've been living in denial all my life, but I have been
- 55:16busted since I was 7 years old and after actually listening to
- 55:21these songs in a bit of depth and actually paying attention to
- 55:25them, yeah, Busted don't stand a chance.
- 55:27They. Really don't.
- 55:30They've been around like McFly have been around a lot longer
- 55:32and have so many more songs as well.
- 55:34Like the more, the more albums they released, the more they
- 55:37just took over. I think as well.
- 55:38Like we just have so much to think about when it comes to
- 55:40McFly so. And I think the better the
- 55:43albums get as well. As they go.
- 55:45And they go well. According to you, because all
- 55:48your ratings for the first album are shocking.
- 55:51Shut your mouth. OK, Woody, Wait until we get to
- 55:55power to play, OK? OK, sorry, sorry, sorry.
- 55:59Woody, over to you. So originally I was, I was team
- 56:03Busted. I saw them on their reunion tour
- 56:06and then I saw them for a couple of years after that.
- 56:09And then I was introduced to McFly at a festival local to me
- 56:12and yeah, they just blew Busted completely out the water.
- 56:16I mean, Busted all back in tracks and you know, they're a
- 56:19bit boring compared to McFly. So I do realise I've probably
- 56:24put myself in danger with the. Busted fans.
- 56:25Now it is Bang Bang bang half the.
- 56:29Fans so. Don't don't get me wrong, you
- 56:32know, if it weren't for Busted, McFly wouldn't be here.
- 56:35But for me, McFly are just the better musicians, the better
- 56:39songwriters. And as a band, you know, they've
- 56:42stood the test of time. They ain't split up.
- 56:45Absolutely. Yeah.
- 56:47Don't. Say, what was it with me?
- 56:50So I went to. There was a, there was one down
- 56:53in Southend of it was a Garron's Park.
- 56:55I can't quite remember what it's called, but they were
- 56:57headlining, Scouting For Girls was before them and there was a
- 56:59couple of local acts on before that.
- 57:03Yeah, that's 2021 those. Like little local festival
- 57:06festivals, they do quite a few down this end as well, but they.
- 57:10Did cheat in the dunes a couple of times which is in Cornmore.
- 57:13That's a sick 1. They do, the little ones.
- 57:16In I love those because they just play like the bangers,
- 57:17don't they? Yeah, so like a greatest hit
- 57:20show. It's the best.
- 57:21Yeah. I love it so much.
- 57:22Thanks I. Think the South end one was the
- 57:24first one back after the lockdown.
- 57:26So they, you know, they've been wound up for God knows how many
- 57:28years and it was like let go. Do you know what I mean?
- 57:30Let go into the wild and it was full of energy.
- 57:32Big. Ever And everybody got ill after
- 57:34because we all had COVID. Oh, my gosh, thank you so much
- 57:39for giving us your. Yeah, obviously, definitely
- 57:42worth it. Thank you for giving us all of
- 57:44your opinions. We appreciate everything that
- 57:47you've given us today. We've really, it's been lovely
- 57:49having you on, actually. And it's nice to have a band
- 57:51because you like, it's not just one person.
- 57:53We're talking to four of you. So there's always so much
- 57:55content. It's great.
- 57:56Thank you so much. That brings us to the end of
- 58:01another episode of Galaxy Crashes.
- 58:03And a massive thank you to Mcflyde for joining us today.
- 58:07Yeah, really, really. Thank you.
- 58:08Thank you. Honestly, it's been so much fun
- 58:10chatting to you. Do you want to plug your socials
- 58:13and any upcoming gigs before we say goodbye?
- 58:17Yeah, sure. No worries.
- 58:17So on TikTok and Instagram, we if you just look for Mcflyde
- 58:21tribute, you'll find us on there, same as Facebook as well.

- 58:27Instagram and TikTok. So yeah, just search that and
- 58:30you'll find that we have got a website mcflyde.com which I am
- 58:35currently working on at the moment.
- 58:36So you'll be able to find stuff on there.
- 58:38And also our link tree which is just a link tree for assessment
- 58:40flight tribute. In terms of the upcoming gigs,
- 58:43our launch show is on the 11th of April and that's.
- 58:47Exciting. Yes, absolutely, and that's at
- 58:49the Brentwood Theatre in Essex at the moment.
- 58:51A lot of our gigs at the moment are in the Essex area where
- 58:53we're all from. So we've got the Brentwood
- 58:56Theatre coming up on 11th of April and then on June 26th
- 59:00we're doing the Rayleigh Mill in Essex, an event centre and
- 59:04that's a Busted versus McFly gig.
- 59:06So we're playing with the. Pastor for that it looks,
- 59:10really. Good.
- 59:10We're doing that. And then the July the 4th, we're
- 59:13at the Three Wise Monkeys in Colchester and that's again a
- 59:17nice little intimate venue. And we've got support from Bank
- 59:20with Gypsy Moon, one of my good friends, his band, they're like
- 59:22a covers band. They're going to support us on
- 59:24that one. And the last confirmed gig we've
- 59:27got now is at the Spa Pavilion in Felixstowe.
- 59:30Again, that's another Busty versus McFly gig as well.
- 59:32And that's in November on the 21st.
- 59:35So but Woody is currently in talks with a lot of venues
- 59:38around the country, so up north, down the southwest and stuff
- 59:41like that. So we are going to be come on.
- 59:43Venturing outside. The Southwest.
- 59:44A little bit louder, please. Yeah.
- 59:47Yeah. So we are, we are venturing out
- 59:49out of the, the parish of Essex to other areas as well.
- 59:52We, we just, we just want to gauge the first chauffeur, see
- 59:55how it all goes and make sure it's successful.
- 59:58And then we'll start venturing out and, yeah, spread our music
- 1:00:01everywhere. Spray Mcfly's music.
- 1:00:03Sorry, spray Mcfly's music. Absolutely no doubt that it's
- 1:00:06going to go down well and that you're going to be on tour and
- 1:00:10and spreading your tribute band across the country because we've
- 1:00:13already looked at your sort of videos and like some of your
- 1:00:16songs and like your covers and we love them.
- 1:00:17We think they're all amazing so far and we've loved having you
- 1:00:20on. So thank you so much for joining
- 1:00:21us. We're going to say goodbye now,
- 1:00:23so. And we hope that maybe you'd
- 1:00:34come and join us again. Maybe.
- 1:00:36You know, we're going to be doing this for a long time, I
- 1:00:37think, Shannon, considering how many bloody songs we've got to
- 1:00:40get through. So we may, maybe in a few years.
- 1:00:43Time your your like first gig and let us know how it's being.
- 1:00:47Yeah, just just a quick phone call, like just a little star
- 1:00:50listener kind of thing would be amazing.
- 1:00:52We'd love to keep in touch and also would love to come and
- 1:00:54actually see a show. So please don't forget about us
- 1:00:56down here. Sure.
- 1:00:57That's been great. Thank you so much.

- 1:01:22because it really does genuinely help us out.
- 1:01:25And it does indeed. And we will be back next week
- 1:01:27with Busted Song sleeping with the light on.
- 1:01:30So don't forget your lighters to hold up in the air and tissues
- 1:01:33for your tears, because I'll be crying.
