- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on, I sure will. Good morning, everybody. You're listening
- 0:07Speaker 1: to The Voice. Come on, dig me now. One and
- 0:11Speaker 1: only Steve Harvey got a radio show today. I want
- 0:17Speaker 1: to just share something with you along your way. to
- 0:25Speaker 1: wherever it is you're trying to get to. You know,
- 0:28Speaker 1: everybody has a different definition for success. And I'm not
- 0:33Speaker 1: here to tell you what yours should be. I mean,
- 0:34Speaker 1: please pursue whatever you think success is. Aim as high
- 0:39Speaker 1: as you can, though. That's for sure. My father used
- 0:44Speaker 1: to say all the time, I'm sure you all have
- 0:46Speaker 1: heard it in different variations, but he used to always say,
- 0:50Speaker 1: aim for the moon. Just in case you miss, you'll
- 0:52Speaker 1: still be amongst the stars. Just say that to me
- 0:55Speaker 1: all the time. So that always was in me to
- 0:59Speaker 1: aim high. Now, he wasn't saying aim with the intent
- 1:04Speaker 1: to miss. He was just saying aim. In case you miss,
- 1:09Speaker 1: you'll still be amongst the stars if you aim for
- 1:12Speaker 1: the moon. But if you just aim for that first
- 1:15Speaker 1: flow window and you miss it, you know, usually run
- 1:20Speaker 1: into some type of wall and nothing happens. You slither down.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You know, in my book, Act Like a Lady, Think
- 1:26Speaker 1: Like a Man, I told people that men love three ways.
- 1:29Speaker 1: They profess, they provide, they protect. And that's the core
- 1:33Speaker 1: essence of a man's love. Well, there's some other P's
- 1:37Speaker 1: in life, too. The number one thing you have to
- 1:41Speaker 1: understand about trying to be successful. And I guess I
- 1:47Speaker 1: call this the four P's. I may come up with
- 1:49Speaker 1: five along the way. I don't know. I'm just talking
- 1:52Speaker 1: as it's given to me. So. I'm going to start
- 1:55Speaker 1: by saying that these are the four P's of success
- 2:00Speaker 1: that you have to get ready for. Number one is pressure.
- 2:05Speaker 1: A lot of it is applied by the circumstance of
- 2:08Speaker 1: what you're trying to go for and what you're trying
- 2:10Speaker 1: to do. But a lot of it also is self-imposed pressure.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It's what you put on yourself to make it. It's
- 2:21Speaker 1: a sense of urgency. It's a sense of necessity, but
- 2:29Speaker 1: pressure is the first thing I want you to be
- 2:31Speaker 1: ready for. And pressure comes in a lot of different forms,
- 2:35Speaker 1: but it's going to be pressured as an old saying
- 2:37Speaker 1: that pressure bust a pipe. See, that's why most people
- 2:40Speaker 1: turn around because of the pressure of trying to be successful.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I want you to get it in your mind that
- 2:47Speaker 1: is going to be a pressurized situation on your rise
- 2:51Speaker 1: to the top. Pressure. But understand that that is what
- 2:56Speaker 1: it is, is not going to change. That's it. Prepare yourself.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Get ready for there to be pressure. The second thing
- 3:07Speaker 1: I want you to understand is when you receive this pressure,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you have to persist. You got to stay at it.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You got to develop a doggedness. There's a song out.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It says, why must I feel like that? Why must
- 3:29Speaker 1: I chase the cat? Nothing but the dog in me.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That's a funny line in that song. Because really, I
- 3:38Speaker 1: was thinking about it one day. I was humming it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And it occurred to me. It said, why must I
- 3:45Speaker 1: feel like that? Why must I chase the cat? Nothing
- 3:49Speaker 1: but the dog in me. And, you know, now you
- 3:53Speaker 1: could take it in the literal sense that cat chases
- 3:56Speaker 1: the dog because it's innately, it's in his spirit that
- 4:00Speaker 1: cats and dogs are a lot of times enemies. Now
- 4:03Speaker 1: people have pets and have proven that if you show
- 4:06Speaker 1: love on both sides, they can exist. And that happens too.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But naturally, innately, when your cat goes by a dog,
- 4:13Speaker 1: your dog don't recognize him. There's some barking going on.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I'm talking about just walking through the neighborhood or something. So,
- 4:20Speaker 1: but the reason that this dog, is so persistent towards
- 4:26Speaker 1: this cat. It just causes in him. It's innately in him.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And what I'm saying to you, just using that as
- 4:36Speaker 1: an analogy, is that you got to be persistent in
- 4:44Speaker 1: that you got to develop some dog in you now
- 4:47Speaker 1: because pressure takes some fighting back. See, if you don't
- 4:51Speaker 1: fight back against pressure, pressure busts the pipe. So what
- 4:54Speaker 1: you think it'll do to you? Pressure crack walls. Pressure
- 4:58Speaker 1: cause explosions. So if you don't fight back to hold
- 5:02Speaker 1: it in, you understand pressure does most people in. The
- 5:07Speaker 1: simple thing called pressure. The weight of what it feels
- 5:12Speaker 1: like to want to be successful every single day over
- 5:15Speaker 1: and over and over and over and over. It's just
- 5:18Speaker 1: too much pressure. people crack. You got to persist. You
- 5:23Speaker 1: have to persist. The thought of giving up can come,
- 5:28Speaker 1: but you got to get it out. You got to persist.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The next thing I want you to think about is
- 5:37Speaker 1: another something that I've been thinking about for years and
- 5:40Speaker 1: learned for years. It's called perseverance. To persist means to
- 5:47Speaker 1: to insist. The key word in persist is insist. You
- 5:53Speaker 1: must insist that this is going to happen. Now, the
- 5:56Speaker 1: persist I'm assuming means it's a proaction. It's some type
- 6:00Speaker 1: of proaction that you go towards it to make it persist.
- 6:05Speaker 1: You've got to be persistent. You've got to be constantly
- 6:08Speaker 1: at it. Insisting that it happens, you've got to be
- 6:10Speaker 1: constantly at it. But the next thing I want you
- 6:13Speaker 1: to remember is perseverance. Perseverance. Perseverance is important. Perseverance means
- 6:18Speaker 1: that when you've done your best, when you've persisted, when
- 6:24Speaker 1: you're fighting back against the pressure, perseverance simply means I'm
- 6:29Speaker 1: going to hang in here. If a crack come in
- 6:33Speaker 1: the pipe, I'm going to hang in there. If the
- 6:36Speaker 1: pipe busts, I'm going to keep going. If I got
- 6:40Speaker 1: to put duct tape, mud, whatever I got to put
- 6:44Speaker 1: on this thing, man, I'm going to use perseverance. I'm
- 6:48Speaker 1: going to stay with it no matter what. So we're
- 6:52Speaker 1: looking at the three things again. You got to understand
- 6:56Speaker 1: that it's going to be pressure, that you're going to
- 6:58Speaker 1: have to persist. Key word in persistence, insist. You have
- 7:03Speaker 1: to insist that no matter what the pressure is, I'm
- 7:05Speaker 1: going to stay with it. But the perseverance, if it
- 7:08Speaker 1: goes wrong, man, you got to get in there and
- 7:12Speaker 1: keep fighting. But then, Lord, have mercy. Nothing helps you
- 7:17Speaker 1: handle the three P's better than the fourth P. You
- 7:20Speaker 1: got to pray. You got to use prayer. You got
- 7:24Speaker 1: to talk to God. You got to use faith. You
- 7:28Speaker 1: got to have some conferences with him late at night,
- 7:31Speaker 1: early in the morning, in the middle of the afternoon,
- 7:34Speaker 1: when you're on the train, when you're driving. You got
- 7:36Speaker 1: to talk to God, man. You got to get yourself
- 7:39Speaker 1: some help along the way. Nothing is bigger than prayer.
- 7:43Speaker 1: There is nothing bigger than prayer. Prayer will help you
- 7:46Speaker 1: overcome the pressure. Prayer will help you stay persistent. And
- 7:50Speaker 1: Lord have mercy. Prayer will help you persevere. Them is
- 7:53Speaker 1: the four P's. God gave that to me. I'm passing
- 7:58Speaker 1: it on. You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
