- 0:00Dot com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:06kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:08I'm your host Anna McGivern for September 26th.
- 0:11Today is National Alpaca Day and if that doesn't immediately make
- 0:15you smile, you haven't spent enough time thinking about
- 0:18alpacas. These incredibly adorable South
- 0:21American camelids have captured hearts around the world with
- 0:25their fluffy coats, gentle demeanor, and almost impossibly
- 0:29cute expressions. the United States celebrates National
- 0:33Alpaca Farm Day on September 26th, organized by the Alpaca
- 0:37Owners Association to educate people about these remarkable
- 0:40animals and promote alpaca farming.
- 0:44But America isn't alone in its alpaca love.
- 0:47New Zealand celebrates their National Apalca Day on May 2nd,
- 0:51and Peru, the ancestral home of alpacas, celebrates theirs on
- 0:57August 1st. What makes alpacas so special?
- 1:02Beyond their undeniable cuteness, they're incredibly
- 1:05gentle, intelligent, and produce some of the world's finest
- 1:09natural fiber. Their wool is hypoallergenic,
- 1:13water resistant, and softer than cashmere.
- 1:16Plus, they're environmentally friendly.
- 1:18They're soft, padded feet don't damage grassland, and they're
- 1:22efficient grazers. And they don't overeat.
- 1:26That brings us today's quote from naturalist Jane Goodall,
- 1:30who once said what you do makes a difference, and you have to
- 1:35decide what kind of difference you want to make.
- 1:39You might wonder what Jane Goodall's wisdom about making a
- 1:42difference has to do with alpacas, but there's actually a
- 1:46beautiful connection here. Alpacas represent a perfect
- 1:50example of how choosing gentleness and sustainability
- 1:54can make a positive difference in the world.
- 1:57Think about what alpacas teach us through their very existence.
- 2:01They're proof that you don't need to be aggressive or
- 2:04dominant to thrive. These gentle creatures have
- 2:07survived for thousands of years in harsh mountain environments,
- 2:11not through force, but through adaptability, community and
- 2:15efficiency. They live harmoniously in herds.
- 2:19They're naturally calm and curious, and they take only what
- 2:23they need from their environment.
- 2:25The people who choose to raise alpacas are often making a
- 2:28conscious decision about the kind of difference they want to
- 2:32make. They're choosing sustainable
- 2:34farming, supporting local fiber production, and working with
- 2:39animals that embody gentleness and cooperation rather than
- 2:43competition and aggression. Goodall's quote reminds us that
- 2:46every choice we make, from the careers we pursue to the way we
- 2:51treat others, is an opportunity to decide what kind of
- 2:54difference we want to make in the world.
- 2:57Alpacas, in their quiet way, show us that sometimes the most
- 3:02profound differences come from choosing kindness over
- 3:06harshness, sustainability over exploitation, sustainability
- 3:12over exploitation. So today, think about Jane
- 3:16Goodall's question and what alpacas can teach us about
- 3:20making a difference. How can you bring more alpaca
- 3:24like qualities into your day? Gentleness, curiosity, calm
- 3:28presence and the art of taking only what you need.
- 3:32Maybe it's choosing patience over frustration and a difficult
- 3:36conversation. Maybe it's approaching a
- 3:38challenge with quiet determination rather than
- 3:42aggressive force. Maybe it's simply being more
- 3:45present and gentle with the people around you.
- 3:48The key is remembering that sometimes the most meaningful
- 3:52differences come through gentleness, sustainability, and
- 3:55treating others, humans and animals alike, with kindness and
- 3:59respect. That's going to do it for today.
- 4:02I'm Anna McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 4:07tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 4:13with another daily quote.
