- 0:01The more we focus on difficulties, the more they seem
- 0:04to accumulate. It is one thing to be able to
- 0:08quietly observe issues as they arise.
- 0:11It is quite another to fixate on them and expend energy trying to
- 0:16push through them using the normal powers of body, life and
- 0:20mind. The spiritual force, once it
- 0:24begins to work in the being, continues relentlessly.
- 0:28Sometimes as it pushes into a new area of the consciousness,
- 0:33it can provoke the awakening of old samskaras, memories, habits,
- 0:38instincts, trained responses, which may seem to the seeker to
- 0:43be a backwards or retrogressive step in the sadhna with the
- 0:47right attitude. These things are seen as part of
- 0:50the process, not permanent issues, and thus they can be
- 0:55overcome if one remains in the right psychological space.
- 1:00This psychological space is the one that the psychic being
- 1:03naturally adopts, one of quiet observation, aspiration,
- 1:08confidence, patience, perseverance, faith, and
- 1:14reliance on the spiritual force and its action.
- 1:18At some point practitioner begins to appreciate that it is
- 1:22not through his own human power of action that true
- 1:26transformation of human nature can occur, but through the
- 1:30action of the divine force, which is the actual doer of the
- 1:35sadhana. What we do not ordinarily grasp
- 1:39is that the change to the outer nature and its reactions may be
- 1:42the result of a much more hidden internal process of change.
- 1:48The mother advises not to condone, support or fixate on
- 1:53the outer movements that are the result of past actions, rather
- 1:58to focus on the objective, the goal, the spiritual realization
- 2:03as the reality one must cling to, Fioro Bindu observes.
- 2:09Quote A difficulty comes, or an arrest in some movement which
- 2:14you have begun or have been carrying on for some time.
- 2:18How is it to be dealt with? For such arrests are inevitably
- 2:23frequent enough, not only for you, but for everyone who is a
- 2:27seeker. One might almost say that every
- 2:31step forward is followed by an arrest.
- 2:33At least that is a very common, if not a universal experience.
- 2:39It is to be dealt with by becoming always more quiet, more
- 2:43firm in the will to go through, by opening oneself more and more
- 2:49so that any obstructing non receptivity in the nature may
- 2:53diminish or disappear. By an affirmation of faith even
- 2:58in the midst of the obscurity. Faith in the presence of a power
- 3:02that is working behind the cloud and the veil in the guidance of
- 3:07the Guru. By an observation of oneself to
- 3:10find any cause of the arrest, not in a spirit of depression or
- 3:15discouragement, but with the will to find out and remove it.
- 3:20This is the only right attitude, and if one is persistent in
- 3:24taking it, the periods of arrest are not abolished, for that
- 3:29cannot be at this stage, but greatly shortened and lightened
- 3:34in their incidents. Sometimes these arrests are
- 3:37periods, long or short, of assimilation or unseen
- 3:42preparation. Their appearance of sterile
- 3:45immobility is deceptive. In that case, with the right
- 3:49attitude, one can, after a time, by opening, by observation, by
- 3:55accumulated experience, begin to feel, to get some inkling of
- 4:01what is being prepared or done. Sometimes it is a period of true
- 4:06obstruction, in which the power at work has to deal with the
- 4:10obstacles in the way, obstacles in oneself, obstacles of the
- 4:15opposing cosmic forces, or any other, or of altogether.
- 4:21And this kind of arrest may be long or short according to the
- 4:25magnitude or obstinacy or complexity of the impediments
- 4:30that are met. But here, too, the right
- 4:33attitude can alleviate or shorten, and, if persistently
- 4:38taken, help to a more radical removal of the difficulties, and
- 4:43greatly diminish the necessity of complete arrests hereafter.
- 4:49On the contrary, an attitude of depression or unfaith in the
- 4:53help or the guidance, or in the certitude of the victory of the
- 4:56Guiding Power, a shutting up of yourself in the sense of the
- 5:01difficulties, impedes the recovery, prolongs the
- 5:05difficulties, helps the obstructions to recur with force
- 5:09instead of progressively diminishing in their incidents.
- 5:13It is an attitude whose persistence or recurrence you
- 5:16must resolutely throw aside if you want to get over the
- 5:20obstruction which you feel so much, which the depressed
- 5:24attitude only makes, while it lasts, more acute.
