- 0:11Speaker 1: I'm Maddie D from the Dirty Pagans in Adelaide, South Australia.
- 0:14Speaker 1: We have a new album called Forever High coming out
- 0:17Speaker 1: and we're very excited for you guys to hear it.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Fantastic Maddie, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Brother, thank you very much for having me on man,
- 0:26Speaker 3: appreciate it.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Hi, Pleasure and dare now as you say, the Dirty
- 0:29Speaker 4: Pagan's dropping new album Forever High on June the twenty seventh,
- 0:32Speaker 4: So not long now made.
- 0:33Speaker 2: How are you feeling good?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Excited?
- 0:36Speaker 1: We've had it under our belt for a little while
- 0:39Speaker 1: hour so we're excited to finally drop it and start
- 0:42Speaker 1: showing everyone what it's made of.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Oh, I see, I'm going to go out to Lima
- 0:47Speaker 4: and say that the titles referring the heights or a
- 0:50Speaker 4: plane tree from all.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, I'm scared of flying, So there you go.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm high.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'm always nervous about it. Yeah, that's one of them.
- 1:03Speaker 4: There's always a deeper meeting mate to tell us a
- 1:08Speaker 4: bit more about the album from a music and point
- 1:09Speaker 4: of view, and what are you were going for this
- 1:10Speaker 4: time around?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, so like we don't really try and straight away
- 1:14Speaker 1: from what we love and what we want to sound like,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and that's that classic seventies kind of rock and roll,
- 1:19Speaker 1: heavy metal stuff. So we we much tried to do
- 1:23Speaker 1: the true and.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Stay true to that and delivered that once again.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And so we're hoping that we have that and we'll
- 1:32Speaker 1: let the fans decide if we have.
- 1:37Speaker 4: To help them decide. You release the singles Killer in
- 1:39Speaker 4: the Night and Forever Hide. So are they a good
- 1:41Speaker 4: sony representation of what do you expect from the whole album?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, we got that.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We've got another a couple of reviews that we've been
- 1:51Speaker 1: reading so far. We've got early diano sounding stuff that
- 1:55Speaker 1: we're going to also be putting a video out for
- 1:57Speaker 1: for a song called DTM. We've got you Will Know
- 2:01Speaker 1: My Name, which is kind of a bit of a
- 2:03Speaker 1: heavier track, which we'll be releasing as well.
- 2:05Speaker 3: But everyone will be able to hear them starting next
- 2:09Speaker 3: week and live at the album launch as well.
- 2:12Speaker 2: All right, nicee.
- 2:13Speaker 4: The press release says that Pillar in the nightmarks of
- 2:16Speaker 4: bold shifted direction fans.
- 2:17Speaker 2: So, how so was that a planned direction?
- 2:20Speaker 4: FA?
- 2:22Speaker 1: I think when I so I wrote that song, I
- 2:25Speaker 1: was probably going for that really early late seventies, early
- 2:29Speaker 1: eighties new wave of British heavy metal kind of sound
- 2:31Speaker 1: when I was writing that, So I wouldn't.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Say it's a new direction of any sort.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I think either the press release said it was exactly.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I think it's been about ten years before I was
- 2:44Speaker 1: even born, So I wouldn't say it's a new sound.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Maybe a new sound your way.
- 2:49Speaker 3: That's it, man, We're not here to change the wheel.
- 2:52Speaker 3: We're just happy to be a spoke on it.
- 2:53Speaker 4: So yeah, well this part is true. I know this
- 2:59Speaker 4: for a fact that you did road test most of
- 3:00Speaker 4: the material while you're on tour with Glenn Here's So,
- 3:04Speaker 4: what does it actually mean when a band says that
- 3:05Speaker 4: they road tested material, Like if a song goes down
- 3:08Speaker 4: like a lead ballooon, will you cut it or will
- 3:10Speaker 4: you rework it and then take it out again and
- 3:12Speaker 4: to see what people think?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Like what's that process involved.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I don't think we cut anything out, Like if it
- 3:18Speaker 1: was terrible, I think you can kind of as the musicians,
- 3:21Speaker 1: you can feel that pretty much immediately anyway, Like if
- 3:24Speaker 1: the energy isn't there when you're creating the song, it's
- 3:27Speaker 1: probably kind of telling you inside that it's.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Probably not gonna work out. There are things that obviously you.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Need to massage and for neess out, but they're usually
- 3:37Speaker 1: like the intricate parts of a breakdown or something like that.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So no, I think if for some reason it didn't
- 3:46Speaker 1: no one liked it, I think.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it'd be pretty silly to move on and play it.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But that hasn't happened yet, and I think it's fucking
- 3:53Speaker 1: cross it doesn't.
- 3:56Speaker 4: It's just you hear a lot of bands talk about
- 3:58Speaker 4: road tested material, but already people out there don't actually
- 4:01Speaker 4: know what that means.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Are what I was getting at.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Well, No, we got kind of like thrown in the
- 4:07Speaker 1: deep end on that one because we were doing it
- 4:09Speaker 1: for Glenn Hughes, so exactly, it.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Wasn't going to be liked.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It was not going to be liked by people that
- 4:13Speaker 1: love like Deep Purple and Glenn Hughes's music, and they're
- 4:16Speaker 1: probably old enough to not really hold back their opinions.
- 4:20Speaker 3: So I think we were all right.
- 4:23Speaker 1: We didn't have any negative reviews on that, so I
- 4:25Speaker 1: think when I say road tested, yeah, we went around
- 4:28Speaker 1: most of the country and played it, so it was
- 4:29Speaker 1: pretty good.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Is speaking with Glenn Hughes bro like Plent's fucking news,
- 4:35Speaker 4: like how was it to all men?
- 4:36Speaker 2: It must have been an amazing experience.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It was great, It's wonderful. I was asked about it
- 4:41Speaker 1: in a few interviews. I try and stay out of
- 4:44Speaker 1: the way of main support, like headliners. I will always
- 4:49Speaker 1: just introduce myself and just stay out of the way.
- 4:52Speaker 1: If they want to talk to me, awesome. If they don't,
- 4:54Speaker 1: they're busy. So I didn't actually have like you know,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I didn't have like one on one conversations with Glenn
- 4:59Speaker 1: or anything like that.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Just got to tour, do my thing, do a good job,
- 5:02Speaker 3: and get out.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And he said that at the end of the tour
- 5:05Speaker 1: he was like, really professional, great sound, key going boys,
- 5:09Speaker 1: and that's all I needed.
- 5:11Speaker 4: You've also added drummer Gareth Briefs to the band, So
- 5:14Speaker 4: introduces to him and tell him what he brings dirty pagans.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Oh, he's a hard hitting son of a gun man.
- 5:20Speaker 1: He is really bringing out a real nice seventy sound,
- 5:23Speaker 1: real full sounding, wonderful dude, really sweet, really nice.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Puts up with us three maniacs. So he's a yin to.
- 5:33Speaker 1: The yang and we're very happy to have him.
- 5:36Speaker 4: I said, your music mate has been yourself dubbed at
- 5:40Speaker 4: riff and roll, which I fucking love.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It's a great turn. But how did you come up
- 5:44Speaker 2: with him?
- 5:44Speaker 4: Was one of them things pissed around the table one
- 5:46Speaker 4: night or did someone just say it on stage and
- 5:48Speaker 4: it's stuck, or I think I.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Just came up with it and it's just one of
- 5:51Speaker 1: those things I just love. It was like snappy, kind
- 5:54Speaker 1: of little words. I kind of I work with words
- 5:56Speaker 1: outside of music as well, So yeah, I think I
- 6:00Speaker 1: coined it. I haven't TRADEMARKEDT, so please I steal amount.
- 6:05Speaker 2: It's fucking cool though.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I like my whole my thing for this
- 6:09Speaker 1: band is that my job is essentially to bring riffs,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and that's what I wanted.
- 6:14Speaker 3: It's riff and roll. So loved it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: That'll do.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Now, You've got an album launch coming up at the
- 6:20Speaker 4: Vibeing Adelaide on the June twenty eighth, the Snake Bite,
- 6:23Speaker 4: Whiskey Fuckies, Pride and Joy and the Couchies, So tell
- 6:26Speaker 4: us more about that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah, we're excited that the Coogie's. They're an upcoming band.
- 6:30Speaker 1: We're happy to have their mind. They recently held at
- 6:32Speaker 1: cougie'es Fest and it looked pretty sold out, so we're
- 6:35Speaker 1: hoping all their fans will come along to this one.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Rock is Pride and Joy.
- 6:39Speaker 1: They're a staple of heavy music and essay, they're just awesome.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I've played with them a lot of times.
- 6:45Speaker 1: We're excited to play with them again. And Snake Bite
- 6:47Speaker 1: Whiskey we played with them in that Church is a
- 6:48Speaker 1: Steel festival a few years back. I reckon and it
- 6:52Speaker 1: was a pretty loose night then. So they're coming down
- 6:54Speaker 1: from Queensland, so we're excited to have another big night
- 6:56Speaker 1: with them.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Ah, so you've got any other shows coming up?
- 6:59Speaker 3: Right?
- 7:00Speaker 2: Is that it?
- 7:01Speaker 1: For now?
- 7:01Speaker 3: Right now? It's this.
- 7:02Speaker 1: We've got a few well, James getting married, so we're
- 7:06Speaker 1: going to have to do James Jimbo's getting married and
- 7:09Speaker 1: also am I so am I?
- 7:10Speaker 2: So congratulations very much the same time.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Thank you. So I'm heading off to Vegas to be
- 7:16Speaker 3: married by Elvis.
- 7:17Speaker 1: So we're going to try and get a few things
- 7:21Speaker 1: in that we can, but we do need to give
- 7:24Speaker 1: some time to our partners, who have been very lenient
- 7:28Speaker 1: with their time with us, so we'll definitely be looking
- 7:32Speaker 1: to tour the album properly January, hopefully next year.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Marriage it's a bit better than mine, Mine finished about
- 7:39Speaker 4: six pm on the day we got married, So I
- 7:45Speaker 4: wish you more like than that.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Thank you, brother, I appreciate it.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Before I let you go, buddy, I've got a new
- 7:53Speaker 4: segment I've started called photo Bomb. So basically I've trolled
- 7:56Speaker 4: through social media before we had a chat.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I've come up with some photos and one.
- 7:59Speaker 4: And a bit more about like what's going on here?
- 8:04Speaker 2: You couldn't afford a taxi.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Pretty much, mate, Look a look at that polio leg mate,
- 8:10Speaker 1: I got like a nineteenth hole league.
- 8:16Speaker 3: I can't even blame it on alcohol. Was dead's over there?
- 8:18Speaker 3: That's sad. Yeah, that was We.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Needed a few photos quickly, so we just threw me
- 8:24Speaker 1: in a trolley and uh yeah quick snap alright.
- 8:30Speaker 4: This other one, like i'd say alcohol was involved in
- 8:33Speaker 4: this one.
- 8:36Speaker 2: What happened there?
- 8:38Speaker 3: That was on the Glen Hughes tour.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think I survived a small aeroplane flight, which I
- 8:44Speaker 1: don't like flying, so.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I think I was looked.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Very much and I'd had enough, so I was there
- 8:53Speaker 1: probably waiting for a connecting flight.
- 8:57Speaker 4: It looked like it made the best of that situation.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Maybe what's the worst you've ever had to sleep?
- 9:02Speaker 1: I can't I can't sleep like sitting up, or like
- 9:06Speaker 1: I can't sleep on planes, can't sleep in cars, so
- 9:09Speaker 1: like worst place, man, good God, like on floors probably
- 9:13Speaker 1: like we've done that before.
- 9:15Speaker 3: But god, we're pretty we're actually pretty organized. We do
- 9:20Speaker 3: organize hotels. It's not that bad.
- 9:22Speaker 2: It's not that particular occasion.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Or in a room mate. It's you don't usually get
- 9:27Speaker 3: that much sleep, and not because of that.
- 9:29Speaker 4: But I'm gonna say, smelly socks, ye sweet, that's a
- 9:36Speaker 4: right manual. Thanks for your time, Rode. The album Forever
- 9:38Speaker 4: High is out June twenty seven. We've got the album
- 9:40Speaker 4: launched in the twenty eighth in Adelaide, So best of
- 9:43Speaker 4: luck with everying.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Brother.
- 9:44Speaker 2: We'll see you when you come to Queensland.

- 9:48Speaker 3: having me. Z
