- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. It is Football Coach Friday with Deontay Lee
- 0:25Speaker 1: of Durango. What's going on, my man?
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'm good, man. I was just talking to parents last night,
- 0:29Speaker 2: you know. you know, going through like that, that booster
- 0:32Speaker 2: club process, trying to make sure everybody's got all their
- 0:35Speaker 2: I's dotted and T's crossed and they know what I'm about, man.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm just trying to kind of get my feet set.
- 0:40Speaker 2: So I can do this thing the right way.
- 0:41Speaker 1: He's now a head coach, a high school head coach.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? You got to wear them
- 0:46Speaker 1: polyester Daisy Dukes.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm going to go that far.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm going to go that far.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Why not, man?
- 0:52Speaker 1: You try to have an old school squad, man. You
- 0:54Speaker 1: get out there, you get them boys, them neck rolls,
- 0:56Speaker 1: get some big face masks back out here.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Show them y'all be invincible. That's my style right there.
- 1:01Speaker 2: That's my style right there. The more bars, the better
- 1:03Speaker 2: the player. That's how I used to think about it, right?
- 1:05Speaker 2: On the face mask. So yeah, no, I don't know
- 1:07Speaker 2: if I can do that just kind of based off
- 1:09Speaker 2: of my dimensions physically with the polyester mask.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Brother brother you act like the people who the ogs
- 1:15Speaker 1: of this was out here looking like green gods they
- 1:17Speaker 1: wasn't like that's fair whatever you're thinking about yourself that's
- 1:21Speaker 1: what it's cut for what they call bike that was.
- 1:22Speaker 2: The brand yeah yeah you're right you're right you're 100
- 1:25Speaker 2: right i might have to go take a look at
- 1:27Speaker 2: uh at aloe and all these other new sportswear spots
- 1:30Speaker 2: see what i can find see if.
- 1:31Speaker 1: They still make them and i'm trying i've always wondered
- 1:33Speaker 1: about the coaching shorts was so what was it about
- 1:36Speaker 1: coaching that required you to have special shorts That's.
- 1:39Speaker 2: What I'm saying. Like, did you get this job because
- 1:40Speaker 2: you wanted to have your ass out? Was that the
- 1:43Speaker 2: gig he was after?
- 1:45Speaker 1: But with the people, like, when they started making the shorts,
- 1:47Speaker 1: who was the one that's like, I'm telling you, the
- 1:49Speaker 1: market is there. Who had that idea? Who knew this?
- 1:54Speaker 1: What do they allow you to do that you can't
- 1:57Speaker 1: do otherwise?
- 1:58Speaker 2: That's funny. That is hilarious. Yeah, no, I can't. I
- 2:01Speaker 2: have no idea. And every time I saw my PE
- 2:04Speaker 2: coaches back in that time, I was like, I don't
- 2:05Speaker 2: know if that's the aesthetic that we going for today.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I don't know if that's going to resonate with Southeast
- 2:10Speaker 2: San Diego preteens and teenagers. You know, I don't know
- 2:14Speaker 2: if I'm going to recreate that over here at Bonita, man,
- 2:17Speaker 2: but I'm glad to have the spot that I've got.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Just hoping to do this thing.
- 2:20Speaker 1: The right way. Yeah, man. Well, congratulations to you. If
- 2:24Speaker 1: you were the head coach of the Miami Dolphins right now,
- 2:26Speaker 1: would you bench your quarterback? Because Mike McDaniel finally said,
- 2:30Speaker 1: ya basta. and put that boy Tua on the pod?
- 2:34Speaker 2: I think if I'm Mike McDaniel, I'm probably looking around
- 2:36Speaker 2: and saying, if the GM that hired me is gone,
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'm probably gone no matter what. And if I'm tired
- 2:41Speaker 2: of looking at this, then yeah, I should probably go
- 2:43Speaker 2: ahead and make a change and start updating that LinkedIn, right?
- 2:45Speaker 2: This is when you put the new headshot up on
- 2:48Speaker 2: the profile. Start updating, you know, spent four years over here.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I worked on developing the X, Y, and Z thing.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But yeah, I think it's time. You know, I actually
- 2:57Speaker 2: thought I thought we've been on a slow march towards this.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember right after that blowout
- 3:01Speaker 2: loss to open the season against Indianapolis, where Tua goes
- 3:04Speaker 2: out post-game, and he's like, you know, guys show up
- 3:07Speaker 2: for the players' film meetings, and they were here before
- 3:09Speaker 2: the season started when everybody was feeling good. I want
- 3:12Speaker 2: to see where everybody's commitment level is at. And then
- 3:14Speaker 2: Mike McGinn followed up the very next day, like, that's
- 3:17Speaker 2: a misguided representation of what's going on in film. And
- 3:20Speaker 2: my thought then was... Even if that's true, I don't
- 3:23Speaker 2: know if now is the time for you to be
- 3:25Speaker 2: undermining your quarterback after y'all just got run off the
- 3:27Speaker 2: football field. I think that says a lot about where
- 3:30Speaker 2: the relationships were. So I'm not surprised that we're here now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yo, he seems like a very nice person that people
- 3:35Speaker 1: don't like. Like, I got those same vibes off of
- 3:38Speaker 1: Carson Wentz.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Like, anytime I see Carson Wentz, it's like, I don't
- 3:42Speaker 1: really understand. Like, you knew what the problem was with
- 3:45Speaker 1: Jay Cutler, right? It didn't take but five minutes to
- 3:48Speaker 1: listen to Jay Cutler. And you'd be like, oh, hell no.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'm not doing this.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I'll say the same with Derek Carr, right? Some of
- 3:53Speaker 2: the things you hear about Derek Carr personality-wise, I'm like, okay,
- 3:56Speaker 2: I can get how people in the locker room might
- 3:58Speaker 2: be tired of this whole act.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Right, right, right. And you might love him deep down,
- 4:02Speaker 1: but we can't keep doing this. Tua, then he started
- 4:06Speaker 1: doing them press conferences, and it was like, hey, hey, man,
- 4:09Speaker 1: how do you manage? And he would say the wrong thing,
- 4:14Speaker 1: but not... Not like you heard a glass break or
- 4:18Speaker 1: like a needle scratch. He'd say the wrong thing. And
- 4:21Speaker 1: then whatever he said would feel like a rock in
- 4:23Speaker 1: your shoe. We like, Hey man, that that's still getting
- 4:26Speaker 1: on my nerves.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I mean, things like, you know, I can't always see
- 4:30Speaker 2: when guys are coming open, right? I can't always work
- 4:33Speaker 2: through this stuff in the offense. Things like, you know,
- 4:35Speaker 2: kind of self-denigrating at press conferences. Like, I don't know
- 4:38Speaker 2: if I got the arm to make certain kinds of throws.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, brother, I know we in a rough
- 4:42Speaker 2: spot right now, but I don't know if I want
- 4:44Speaker 2: to hear my starting quarterback talking this way before we
- 4:46Speaker 2: go play these games.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Hey, man. Honesty is a thing for me, right? Like,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I think it's honestly, it's easier than the alternatives, but like,
- 4:56Speaker 1: it's an important thing to me. And like, you know,
- 5:00Speaker 1: don't nobody like a lion motherfucker, right? Like ain't nobody
- 5:02Speaker 1: really got no perfect record, but you just can't be,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know, you don't cast to just be out here lying.
- 5:06Speaker 1: It's tricky with the in-between guys. That's when it just
- 5:09Speaker 1: becomes like a matter of taste, but I'm not much
- 5:12Speaker 1: for lying is the point that I'm making. However, at
- 5:16Speaker 1: the ripe old age of 45, 100% truth yee, yee.
- 5:22Speaker 1: That's like 95, that's like 190 proof alcohol. You understand
- 5:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Hey, hey, hey. Sometimes you might need
- 5:31Speaker 1: to step on it just a little bit. Don't put
- 5:35Speaker 1: no impurities in it. Yeah, don't put no impurities in it,
- 5:37Speaker 1: but you got to at least put some ice. So
- 5:39Speaker 1: you're like, yo, so what happened on that throw? The
- 5:41Speaker 1: answer can't be, look at me.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Right. What'd you expect? You expect me to make this
- 5:46Speaker 2: play in the NFL, right? There's a lot of that.
- 5:49Speaker 2: And I think that I think for him, probably that's
- 5:52Speaker 2: a lot of looking at the writing on the wall.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I was actually, I was really interested. I think this
- 5:56Speaker 2: was a couple of years ago when he was on
- 5:57Speaker 2: the Manning cast and the Manning brothers were asking him
- 6:00Speaker 2: what's different about him now versus when he was in college.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And I thought he was very forthcoming about ankle surgeries,
- 6:05Speaker 2: a dislocated hip. I can't move like I used to.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I think that that is the level of self-awareness that
- 6:11Speaker 2: we are all great with. That crosses the threshold where
- 6:14Speaker 2: we're comfortable. Saying things like, I don't know if I
- 6:16Speaker 2: got the arm strength to make this throw or make
- 6:18Speaker 2: that throw that these other quarterbacks make. I don't want
- 6:21Speaker 2: to hear that. Even if we know it's true. Let
- 6:23Speaker 2: me say that. Right. Let me say that from my seat.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You don't have to say that while you're at the
- 6:27Speaker 2: press conference and at the facility.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And look, there are other contexts in which that sort
- 6:32Speaker 1: of self-deprecation, I think, is appreciated by the audience. For example, hey, man,
- 6:36Speaker 1: maybe you ain't about that gold wrapper. You know what
- 6:38Speaker 1: I mean? Like, if you're honest with yourself about that fact,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm sure it endears you to the people that you
- 6:45Speaker 1: deal with under those contexts, under those circumstances. Right. But
- 6:48Speaker 1: in this case, you just need to be like, yeah,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I don't know. We didn't make the throw. Right. Be
- 6:53Speaker 1: a boxer.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Right. hey if i go out there and i get
- 6:56Speaker 2: and i land on my nose and that's just what
- 6:58Speaker 2: it is but until that point happens i'm the greatest
- 7:00Speaker 2: that the world's ever seen that's all you need to
- 7:02Speaker 2: know about.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Me i interviewed an undefeated boxer once and i tried
- 7:06Speaker 1: to get him to talk about what if he was
- 7:10Speaker 1: not here for it he was not here for it
- 7:13Speaker 1: now don't get me wrong it was against klitschko and
- 7:17Speaker 1: if the if came true And it just so happened
- 7:20Speaker 1: by coincidence, buddy lived in my neighborhood. I had no idea.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I flew to his training camp only to find out
- 7:25Speaker 1: that he lived around the corner from me. And I
- 7:27Speaker 1: saw him driving around in his Chrysler 300 and he
- 7:31Speaker 1: had not considered the F. This had not dawned on him.
- 7:34Speaker 1: And he was really struggling to cope with the realization
- 7:40Speaker 1: of what had taken place.
- 7:41Speaker 2: That's how I feel about, you know, not to totally
- 7:43Speaker 2: derail us, but that's how I feel about guys like
- 7:45Speaker 2: Anthony Joshua stepping in the ring with these Pauls. Why?
- 7:50Speaker 2: I get the money. I understand the money. But why?
- 7:53Speaker 2: You're not going to like what happens on the other
- 7:55Speaker 2: side of this if this don't work out in your favor.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It's one thing for Mike. Mike, you want to go
- 7:59Speaker 2: get paid? Oh, man, I'm with it. I'm not going
- 8:02Speaker 2: to watch, but I'm with it. More power to you.
- 8:04Speaker 2: For someone like you trying to be a serious boxer,
- 8:07Speaker 2: there's no way I would play with that just because
- 8:09Speaker 2: of what's on the other side of that if. no
- 8:10Speaker 2: matter how I feel about my own abilities.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Hey, man, let me tell you this. If I'm Anthony
- 8:15Speaker 1: Joshua and I'm fighting Jake Paul, you know, I had
- 8:19Speaker 1: fun interviewing Jake Paul that one time.
- 8:21Speaker 2: One of my favorite pieces of content.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Oh, God, it was a wild day, man. But anyway,
- 8:25Speaker 1: if I'm fighting Jake Paul, brother, we ain't going to
- 8:27Speaker 1: be here for long. At all. I'm not feeling him out.
- 8:33Speaker 1: This isn't about strategy. One of us is going to sleep.
- 8:37Speaker 2: No, it's either I'm putting you to sleep or we're
- 8:39Speaker 2: going to have to wave the white towel because I
- 8:41Speaker 2: can't breathe no more. But I'm not stopping these punches
- 8:44Speaker 2: until one of the two happen.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Uh-uh, uh-uh. What is not about to happen is Jake
- 8:49Speaker 1: Paul is not about to beat me on points.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Exactly. We ain't going to the cards here. I don't
- 8:55Speaker 2: want to hear what no judge got to say.
- 8:56Speaker 1: No, I can't believe this shit is still going on,
- 8:58Speaker 1: by the way. Like, now that you bring it up,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I can't believe that this is still happening.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Not only that, it's outpacing the actual sport. By magnitudes
- 9:07Speaker 2: at this point. It's scary. We're in a scary spot.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Now, let me tell you what that means. The fact
- 9:12Speaker 1: that it's outpacing this, this tells me that kids don't
- 9:16Speaker 1: fight enough in schools.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Because I feel like if you've been in some real fights,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you got a whole different like the idea that fighting
- 9:25Speaker 1: like that is just like Jake Paul fights feel like wrestling.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Like they try to make it as real as possible.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But in the end, they like wrestling. These kids was
- 9:33Speaker 1: out here fighting for real. I don't think they would
- 9:35Speaker 1: they would be satisfied with this right here. Like what
- 9:38Speaker 1: I see people fight. I need some stakes. Some for
- 9:42Speaker 1: real stakes. Jake Paul fighting against the people he fighting against.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Nobody was in true danger of going to sleep.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Look, man, sometimes you don't even got to be a participant.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Sometimes just being close enough to see the real consequences
- 9:56Speaker 2: that come from right punches is enough of an education
- 9:59Speaker 2: to teach you how. real it is once you step
- 10:01Speaker 2: into that ring or step into that octagon. So I
- 10:04Speaker 2: totally get where you're coming from.
- 10:05Speaker 1: That's right. But tell me this, though, about the Dolphins.
- 10:07Speaker 1: So what do they do now? So you bench Tua.
- 10:11Speaker 1: you don't have a great draft pick. It's not a
- 10:13Speaker 1: great draft for quarterbacks. I'm curious your thoughts on this.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I've been saying for all of these people, your move
- 10:18Speaker 1: has to be to go kick the tires on Kyler Murray, right?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Because people don't like Kyler Murray, but Kyler Murray is
- 10:23Speaker 1: not bad.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It's tricky. It's tricky for Miami. And I was actually,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I was thinking a lot about this with Minnesota when
- 10:30Speaker 2: I wasn't sure whether or not JJ McCarthy could be
- 10:32Speaker 2: kept as a starter for longer than this year. You
- 10:35Speaker 2: start looking at their cap situation and, They already traded
- 10:38Speaker 2: Jalen Ramsey after they gave him a $ 72 million extension.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So you got $ 21 million just hanging out that you
- 10:43Speaker 2: can't use. Tyreek Hill, whether he's going to retire in
- 10:46Speaker 2: the offseason, are they going to have to cut him
- 10:48Speaker 2: because he can't pass a physical? That's probably another $ 28,
- 10:51Speaker 2: $ 29 million on your dead cap. What do you do
- 10:54Speaker 2: with your roster when $ 50 million are allocated to two
- 10:58Speaker 2: players that aren't there anymore? It's going to be really
- 11:00Speaker 2: similar to where Denver was at after getting rid of
- 11:02Speaker 2: Russell Wilson. It's where Minnesota's at right now with all
- 11:04Speaker 2: these vets that they're going to have to cut this
- 11:06Speaker 2: upcoming offseason or ask to take pay cuts. There is
- 11:09Speaker 2: a legitimate chance, even though I don't think it happens,
- 11:12Speaker 2: there's a legitimate chance that Miami and whoever their next
- 11:14Speaker 2: GM is going to be, they're going to have to
- 11:16Speaker 2: sit around and say, Do we need to keep Tua
- 11:18Speaker 2: as a $ 50 million backup for a little bit just
- 11:21Speaker 2: to kind of help our books? Or are we going
- 11:23Speaker 2: to have to cut this guy and have over like
- 11:25Speaker 2: $ 70 million in dead cap trying to put together a
- 11:28Speaker 2: competitive roster? I don't know where they go from here.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I mean, the Falcons did that with Kirk Cousins, right?
- 11:32Speaker 1: Like a very similar thing. And is it possible that
- 11:37Speaker 1: somebody will try to take what's left of him?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Maybe because of where we're at with quarterbacks. I mean,
- 11:44Speaker 2: if you don't get Fernando Mendoza, what are you about
- 11:46Speaker 2: to do?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you get Fernando Mendoza, okay.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Right, exactly. Yeah, your world's probably not saved unless you've
- 11:54Speaker 2: got the roster of all rosters for him to step
- 11:56Speaker 2: into or one of these wunderkind offensive coordinators. You can't
- 12:00Speaker 2: feel like, all right, we just rolled the ball out
- 12:02Speaker 2: with Fernando Mendoza and now we're about to be an
- 12:03Speaker 2: 11-win organization.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Well, I think another level of this that for me
- 12:08Speaker 1: would be tricky about this quarterback game is, We don't
- 12:12Speaker 1: know if they're going to be like how many of
- 12:13Speaker 1: these kids coming in the draft next year are actually
- 12:16Speaker 1: going to be good, right? Cam Ward was the number
- 12:19Speaker 1: one pick this year. They've been so bad. I haven't
- 12:22Speaker 1: thought he's been bad from what I've seen, but they've
- 12:24Speaker 1: been so bad that it's somewhat hard to tell. Shador
- 12:27Speaker 1: Sanders has been better than it looked like it was
- 12:31Speaker 1: going to be early, but his advanced metrics are awful.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Like he's at the bottom of every stat just about
- 12:36Speaker 1: the people. I just say all that to say that
- 12:39Speaker 1: last year didn't really have quarterbacks. This year doesn't really
- 12:43Speaker 1: have quarterbacks, but with the presence of NIL and the
- 12:48Speaker 1: fact that these cats can make some bread and the
- 12:49Speaker 1: revenue sharing is about to start. Take Ty Simpson at Alabama,
- 12:54Speaker 1: where the highs are great, but the inconsistency is an
- 12:57Speaker 1: obvious problem. Does he come into this draft because this
- 13:01Speaker 1: draft is weak and he thinks somebody might take him?
- 13:04Speaker 1: Or does he stay at Alabama, try to get better
- 13:08Speaker 1: and get himself some more bread? Which is to say,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I don't even know how many of these quarterbacks that
- 13:13Speaker 1: we think aren't that good are actually going to try
- 13:15Speaker 1: to go in. Some are going to see a weak draft,
- 13:18Speaker 1: but some are also going to be like, no, I
- 13:20Speaker 1: think I can get paid to get better.
- 13:22Speaker 2: See, and I think that the second factor you brought
- 13:24Speaker 2: up to get better part, at least for a guy
- 13:25Speaker 2: like Ty Simpson, right? Like, I think this has been
- 13:27Speaker 2: a conversation for Garrett Nussmeyer last year, right? Is do
- 13:31Speaker 2: I come out or do I take the extra year
- 13:33Speaker 2: to try to develop? And that ended up going sideways
- 13:35Speaker 2: for him at LSU. I think it's going to be
- 13:38Speaker 2: more about if I can go get five, seven, $ 10 million, uh,
- 13:42Speaker 2: to go hang out for an extra year, I'd probably
- 13:45Speaker 2: rather do that than have to risk not being picked.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I think that what we saw from the NFL last year,
- 13:50Speaker 2: we saw it in the Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis
- 13:52Speaker 2: draft is, I think these teams are getting a little
- 13:55Speaker 2: bit wiser about not taking big swings. And I think
- 13:59Speaker 2: the thing that probably really was the final nail in
- 14:00Speaker 2: the coffin on this is Anthony Richardson. And I think
- 14:03Speaker 2: that for a lot of these teams now, if they
- 14:05Speaker 2: are not certain, they are not going to play around
- 14:07Speaker 2: with a top 10 pick with a quarterback. Right. And
- 14:09Speaker 2: I think that if you're a Ty Simpson, I think
- 14:12Speaker 2: Lenore Sellers was a big, it was a big conversation
- 14:14Speaker 2: point for him before he returned to South Carolina. You've
- 14:16Speaker 2: got to be real careful. I think if you're a
- 14:18Speaker 2: quarterback coming out of college right now, if people are
- 14:21Speaker 2: not over the moon about you, you're probably better off
- 14:24Speaker 2: getting in that portal. If you need to get to
- 14:26Speaker 2: an actual national title contender or sticking it out where
- 14:29Speaker 2: you're at, take your money, feel good about another year
- 14:32Speaker 2: at your college, and then go see what your draft
- 14:34Speaker 2: stock is after the fact.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Let me explain something to you, brother. And I, I
- 14:38Speaker 1: know what the money is in the NFL and what
- 14:41Speaker 1: the possibilities are, and you want to get the clock
- 14:44Speaker 1: started as soon as you can.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I get all of that. You saying what I'm thinking.
- 14:47Speaker 2: You saying what I'm thinking.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Brother, you going to give me millions of dollars to
- 14:50Speaker 1: be the man in college? Woo! Come on! I can't
- 14:57Speaker 1: imagine to be the million-dollar man in college.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Over going to be a grota? I was listening to
- 15:07Speaker 2: a podcast on the way home yesterday talking about Cincinnati
- 15:10Speaker 2: quarterback Brennan Soares being offered north of $ 4 million in
- 15:13Speaker 2: the portal. I could not pick that young man out
- 15:15Speaker 2: of a lineup, but I know who will be able
- 15:17Speaker 2: to once them contracts get signed. And it's going to
- 15:19Speaker 2: be a whole lot of people on whatever campus he
- 15:22Speaker 2: lands on next, right? And I'm saying if I'm 21,
- 15:25Speaker 2: 22 years old, yeah, being the NFL quarterback is nice.
- 15:28Speaker 2: But what's real cool right now is being able to
- 15:30Speaker 2: walk these halls and knowing that everybody's eyes is over here.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Come see about me.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Think about what it was when you ain't even have
- 15:37Speaker 1: no money. Right? Because that's the thing about it. You
- 15:40Speaker 1: ain't even got to have the money. You can just
- 15:42Speaker 1: take them to a nicer apartment. Now, young fellas, I'm
- 15:45Speaker 1: going to let you know, it's harder to get them
- 15:47Speaker 1: to leave. But, you know.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Being the man with the nice kitchen in your apartment
- 15:53Speaker 2: can go a long way. Being the man with the
- 15:55Speaker 2: biggest bedroom can go a long way.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Just having new unused furniture, right? Yes, a new couch.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Did you see that press conference that Pete Golden, the
- 16:05Speaker 1: new head coach at Ole Miss, did where he was like, hey, man, players,
- 16:08Speaker 1: live about a country club right down the street from me.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And I got to be honest with you, we got
- 16:12Speaker 1: to have an HOA meeting about this because no.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 16:15Speaker 1: They cannot.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I can't imagine living down the hall from a football
- 16:19Speaker 1: player who got bread. Like, nah, y'all, I know it
- 16:23Speaker 1: sounds crazy, but you might want to stay on the yard,
- 16:26Speaker 1: adjust the apartment complex. That's going to be more fun.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Because they're going to call the cops on you over here.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I was going to say, if I'm a young black
- 16:34Speaker 2: player getting an NIL deal in Oxford, Mississippi, where I
- 16:37Speaker 2: don't want to be is where the rest of the
- 16:38Speaker 2: Mississippi money is at. Keep me over here with my peers.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I do not want to run across the wrong one
- 16:45Speaker 2: while I'm out here because I'm trying to live large.
- 16:48Speaker 2: in a country town out there in the South.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Not to mention with what you probably got to be
- 16:52Speaker 1: doing in Oxford, depending upon who you are. Hey, man,
- 16:54Speaker 1: her daddy's friends don't need to know she over there
- 16:57Speaker 1: hanging out with you, partner.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 16:59Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Pops my smile in your face.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Uncles and homeboys and coworkers might not feel the same
- 17:05Speaker 2: way that dad is projecting me. I don't want to
- 17:08Speaker 2: play that game.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Don't need it. Don't need it. But you mentioned a
- 17:11Speaker 1: Cincinnati quarterback. You were talking about the college Cincinnati quarterback,
- 17:15Speaker 1: that NFL Cincinnati quarterback, Joe Burrow. And I don't know
- 17:17Speaker 1: if you remember this. I feel like I'm going to
- 17:20Speaker 1: meander a little bit on this, but I've been trying
- 17:23Speaker 1: to talk to people about for years about what it
- 17:25Speaker 1: is at Alabama and what the pressures are and how
- 17:27Speaker 1: Nick Saban has been so good that you haven't seen
- 17:29Speaker 1: the monster get tested. I was watching get up on Thursday.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And they was up there talking about the idea of
- 17:35Speaker 1: DeBoer going to Michigan. They're like, what, are you saying
- 17:37Speaker 1: that Michigan has just world's lower standards than Alabama? Yes,
- 17:42Speaker 1: that is exactly what I'm saying. And you guys, it's
- 17:45Speaker 1: just been too long. You don't remember what it was, right?
- 17:50Speaker 1: When Joe Burrow got drafted by the Bengals, a lot
- 17:52Speaker 1: of us were like, hey, man, you don't have to
- 17:54Speaker 1: do this, right? You can get yourself to another place.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And Bengals fans were obviously upset, didn't like the talk.
- 18:02Speaker 1: all of this stuff. But in the end, we've been
- 18:06Speaker 1: here for a long time over here. We've seen what
- 18:09Speaker 1: this has been since 1988, okay? Now Joe Burrow, this
- 18:15Speaker 1: is what we was talking about. Now, I don't know,
- 18:17Speaker 1: maybe he's sad with the rest of his life, but
- 18:20Speaker 1: who was it that made a very, I think Stephen A.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Smith that made a, and others probably made this distinction
- 18:25Speaker 1: after the game where he said, they asked him if
- 18:26Speaker 1: he had a problem with, with the team. He's like
- 18:28Speaker 1: being a Cincinnati. He was like, I have no problem
- 18:30Speaker 1: with Cincinnati. He didn't say I have no problem with
- 18:33Speaker 1: the Cincinnati Bengals. Right. He said he had no problem
- 18:36Speaker 1: with Cincinnati. Jamar Chase said he needed to go hang
- 18:41Speaker 1: out at buddy house.
- 18:43Speaker 2: You know, saying kind of make sure that this guy,
- 18:45Speaker 2: you know, gets up, shaves in the morning, gets the
- 18:47Speaker 2: teeth brushed, you know, puts gas in the car, the
- 18:50Speaker 2: whole thing. And it's funny. It's funny that you brought
- 18:53Speaker 2: up the college football program as an allegory because I
- 18:55Speaker 2: think about Joe Burrow maybe trying to be what Nick
- 18:58Speaker 2: Saban was to LSU when he's sitting across from the
- 19:00Speaker 2: Brown family, right? where you walk in the building and
- 19:03Speaker 2: you say, Hey, I'm good enough to win here.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:06Speaker 2: But what's happening around the rest of me, it ain't
- 19:08Speaker 2: up to standards. Right. And we've seen them try to
- 19:10Speaker 2: swing that weight around. And I think that it's kind
- 19:12Speaker 2: of bitten them in the ass a bit. Right. It's
- 19:14Speaker 2: nice having two great wide receivers. It ain't so nice
- 19:17Speaker 2: having a defense giving up 30 points per game. Right.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And you got to make tough decisions as an organization.
- 19:22Speaker 2: And I think that burrows hearts in the right place.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And I can totally understand the frustration. And if you're him, you're,
- 19:28Speaker 2: You've also got to consider, man, like, where do you
- 19:30Speaker 2: go from here? Because the last place you want to
- 19:32Speaker 2: be is in Las Vegas. If Gino Smith retires and
- 19:36Speaker 2: Pete Carroll leaves and Tom Brady goes and gets you.
- 19:39Speaker 2: And now you're stuck with another with another owner who's
- 19:42Speaker 2: just now starting to get money and is not demonstrated
- 19:45Speaker 2: that he knows what to do with it. Right. So
- 19:47Speaker 2: I think if you're a borough, you just kind of
- 19:48Speaker 2: got to keep leaning on the Browns. probably keep leaning
- 19:51Speaker 2: on the bangles keep leaning on the browns family on
- 19:52Speaker 2: the brown family and see if you can get more
- 19:55Speaker 2: gains to kind of build this thing out because otherwise
- 19:58Speaker 2: if you leave if you leave that owner to his
- 20:00Speaker 2: own devices you're still going to be wheeling out projector
- 20:03Speaker 2: screens to serve as podiums for your press conferences.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Yeah but i also say this too um Burrow's a
- 20:10Speaker 1: blessing and curse quarterback in that what he, his superpower
- 20:17Speaker 1: is the patience and the willingness to wait and move
- 20:21Speaker 1: until something happens. Right.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:23Speaker 1: But I referenced this. I've referenced this many times over
- 20:25Speaker 1: the years. Sacks taken are a quarterback stat.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And he takes a lot of sacks. Like I've seen
- 20:33Speaker 1: people try to make the comparison and be like, yo,
- 20:35Speaker 1: He takes even more sex than Andrew Luck. Yeah, he
- 20:39Speaker 1: does because Andrew Luck got the ball out of there, right?
- 20:42Speaker 1: Like those offensive lines weren't bad every year for him,
- 20:45Speaker 1: but the key was, and that's the point, is that
- 20:48Speaker 1: Andrew Luck figured out how to get the ball out.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Some of Joe Burrow's misery is self-induced, right? But he
- 20:55Speaker 1: ain't even played that much this year to be so sad.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Like I get why Jamar Chase is sad. He was
- 21:00Speaker 1: out there with Jake Browning and the ghost of Joe Flacco.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Right. Right, and I wonder for him what's happening behind
- 21:07Speaker 2: them walls to have him talking about, I need to
- 21:09Speaker 2: find my fun in football again. And some of this
- 21:12Speaker 2: is injuries, like you said. Some of that is kind
- 21:14Speaker 2: of self-induced with the way that he wants to play.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I think that he would probably benefit from borrowing a
- 21:18Speaker 2: little bit of what we've seen from Dak Prescott, right?
- 21:22Speaker 2: After he broke his ankle, he came back and said,
- 21:24Speaker 2: you know what I don't want to do? I don't
- 21:26Speaker 2: want to get hit. And if that means throwing a
- 21:28Speaker 2: couple more interceptions to avoid that, then let's make sure
- 21:30Speaker 2: that we do that. I think that would probably be
- 21:32Speaker 2: best for him play style-wise. And, yeah, I think that
- 21:35Speaker 2: they probably just need to turn over a lot of
- 21:36Speaker 2: what's been going on in this organization. I think Duke
- 21:38Speaker 2: Tobin has been there for a while. You probably don't
- 21:40Speaker 2: need to keep him around as GM. And I think
- 21:43Speaker 2: that they need to kind of find another defensive coordinator
- 21:45Speaker 2: that can do for them what Lou Anarumo did in
- 21:48Speaker 2: 2021 and 2022.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Counterpoint. Who the hell trying to take them jobs, bro?
- 21:53Speaker 2: Not me. Not me. And if I was a defensive
- 21:57Speaker 2: coordinator on the rise, I probably don't want to be
- 21:59Speaker 2: in Cincinnati either because you know that the owner might
- 22:01Speaker 2: wake up one day and say, I don't really feel
- 22:04Speaker 2: like paying market price for the players. We need to
- 22:06Speaker 2: be good at this.
- 22:07Speaker 1: But also how, even if he did want to, how
- 22:10Speaker 1: are they supposed to do it? They put, look, they did.
- 22:14Speaker 1: This is also Burrow has to own. You wanted both
- 22:17Speaker 1: of them boys to catch passes. You got them. Now
- 22:20Speaker 1: we don't have anybody to cover.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. And they've spent on offensive line. trying to
- 22:27Speaker 2: address that issue. I mean, it's a zero-sum game in
- 22:30Speaker 2: a salary cap sport, buddy. You know, every game that
- 22:33Speaker 2: we put forth for you on offense is going to
- 22:35Speaker 2: have a cost on the other end. And that's how
- 22:37Speaker 2: guys like Jesse Bates end up in Atlanta. That's how
- 22:40Speaker 2: DJ Reader ends up elsewhere. You know, that's how all
- 22:43Speaker 2: these guys end up leaving. And certainly, you know, after
- 22:45Speaker 2: a few years, you look up and it's like, man,
- 22:47Speaker 2: what happened to the team that was forcing turnovers against
- 22:50Speaker 2: Tennessee in the divisional round, right? What happened to the
- 22:53Speaker 2: team that was beating Kansas City, you know, in a
- 22:55Speaker 2: divisional round of a playoff game? It's really hard, I think,
- 22:59Speaker 2: for them to kind of find a balance. And if
- 23:01Speaker 2: you're Joe Burrow and you request a trade, I would
- 23:03Speaker 2: just be very, very careful. about what can land on
- 23:07Speaker 2: the other side of that. Because it ain't no guarantee
- 23:09Speaker 2: that it's Sean McVay who's going to be your next
- 23:11Speaker 2: head coach.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Well, this is the other part, too. You go ask
- 23:14Speaker 1: Mike Brown for a trade, and he'll be like, duly noted.
- 23:18Speaker 2: All right. We've seen this game played out before.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. People in hell want ice water, baby. Like,
- 23:25Speaker 1: what's that got to do with me? Okay? Like, no. Okay.
- 23:29Speaker 1: He wants to play somewhere else. I don't fucking care.
- 23:33Speaker 1: You want to go play somewhere else? This is where
- 23:38Speaker 1: the NFL becomes the NFL, right? Carson Palmer sold his
- 23:42Speaker 1: house and still hadn't been traded. Right.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Literally have to say, I am going home, home. No,
- 23:48Speaker 2: not to my home in Cincinnati. I am going back
- 23:51Speaker 2: to Orange County, California, and you're going to have to
- 23:53Speaker 2: see me another time.
- 23:54Speaker 1: And he got lucky because the only reason that that
- 23:57Speaker 1: trade happened was Al Davis died, and Hugh Jackson had
- 24:01Speaker 1: the keys and was like, all right, let's go ahead.
- 24:03Speaker 1: And looking back, it only worked out so well, but
- 24:06Speaker 1: it was probably the right decision.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah, 100%.
- 24:09Speaker 1: If in this day and age you traded two first-round
- 24:11Speaker 1: picks For even though that was not the best version
- 24:14Speaker 1: of Carson Palmer, but at that time, yeah, that version
- 24:16Speaker 1: of Carson Palmer, two first round picks in this day
- 24:19Speaker 1: and age, we're not really tripping on you doing that. Okay.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:23Speaker 1: But otherwise he'd have been right there. Mike Brown, Mike
- 24:26Speaker 1: Brown don't care about losing.
- 24:29Speaker 2: At all. Clearly. Clearly, he ain't tripping about no losing
- 24:32Speaker 2: because he ain't done nothing to change it when they lose.
- 24:35Speaker 1: No, no. It doesn't offend him in the least. Again,
- 24:39Speaker 1: people are going to find out. This is not... Like,
- 24:41Speaker 1: if I'm Joe... Look, man. Do what you got to
- 24:43Speaker 1: do to put on a happy face, brother. Like, I'm
- 24:46Speaker 1: not saying I don't care how you feel, but I'm
- 24:47Speaker 1: saying don't nobody else.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Hey, look inward, okay? That's all I can tell you.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Look inward, all right?
- 24:54Speaker 1: But think about this. The other level of it is,
- 24:57Speaker 1: Right now, I don't think we expected this so much.
- 25:00Speaker 1: And I do think that it's probably the case that
- 25:02Speaker 1: the Ravens are a little bit of a blip this
- 25:04Speaker 1: year and what's happening with them. But that division is down.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Like the idea that we are at once talking about,
- 25:11Speaker 1: should you fire Mike Tomlin? And the Steelers are probably
- 25:15Speaker 1: going to win this division. And those are reconcilable thoughts, right?
- 25:20Speaker 1: Like they can go together, but that tells you what's
- 25:23Speaker 1: going on with that division. We're winning it. does not
- 25:25Speaker 1: mean anything to a savvy eye.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Right, and I think that, you know, that probably informs
- 25:30Speaker 2: how Joe Burrow feels. I'm sure that Lamar Jackson probably
- 25:33Speaker 2: feels the same way. What do you mean the one
- 25:35Speaker 2: year that Kansas City is not the behemoth that has
- 25:38Speaker 2: been for the entirety of our careers, we don't have
- 25:41Speaker 2: any access to go compete at that level, right? We
- 25:44Speaker 2: can't be Josh Allen right now where you just feel like, man,
- 25:47Speaker 2: just get me in a dance. I'll probably get us
- 25:49Speaker 2: to the AFC Championship game just on the sheer force
- 25:52Speaker 2: of my greatness. I think if you're Burrow, you've got
- 25:54Speaker 2: to feel like, Man, the moment the 15 gets back
- 25:56Speaker 2: in Kansas City, even if we try to get this
- 25:59Speaker 2: thing upright, we're going to be chasing up this exact
- 26:01Speaker 2: same hill all over again.
- 26:03Speaker 1: First of all, Josh Allen better get this done this year. Otherwise,
- 26:06Speaker 1: it's going to be very interesting to see what happens.
- 26:08Speaker 2: This is one of them, I don't want to hear
- 26:09Speaker 2: it type seasons.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I don't want to hear it.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I know the defense is bad. I know you ain't
- 26:13Speaker 2: got no number one receiver. Guess what, buddy? I don't
- 26:15Speaker 2: want to hear it.
- 26:15Speaker 1: My buddy Nick makes the point, and he's right about this,
- 26:18Speaker 1: that the Josh Allen, the legend of Josh Allen in
- 26:20Speaker 1: the postseason has been padded by the seventh playoff team.
- 26:24Speaker 1: they've they've been two and they get the seven at
- 26:27Speaker 1: home and they be wearing their asses out yep and
- 26:30Speaker 1: then the other games it doesn't quite go this way
- 26:32Speaker 1: but all in a world where people feel like it's
- 26:35Speaker 1: quarterback versus quarterback the rest of the quarterbacks are out
- 26:37Speaker 1: of here they're not there this is this is the
- 26:41Speaker 1: time but for the bangles also before we go into
- 26:43Speaker 1: breaking the same thing we said about two apply to
- 26:46Speaker 1: them joe burrow think that they could trade and then
- 26:48Speaker 1: go do what And then go get.
- 26:52Speaker 2: What's waiting on you on the other side of this?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:54Speaker 2: That's my thing.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Look, they already did the thing that most people would advise,
- 26:58Speaker 1: and it didn't work out badly for them, which is
- 27:00Speaker 1: they took the serviceable second-round pick quarterback, and they rode
- 27:04Speaker 1: that for about a decade, and the ceiling for those teams,
- 27:07Speaker 1: you could claim that ceiling was Marvin Lewis. It wasn't.
- 27:10Speaker 1: The ceiling was Andy Dalton, and we all know that
- 27:13Speaker 1: the ceiling was Andy Dalton, right? Then they got Joe Burrow,
- 27:18Speaker 1: and they went to a... They went to a... And
- 27:21Speaker 1: an AFC championship game. I want to be traded.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, right, buddy.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah. They'll be like, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I hear you. Look, I'm going to call you back, okay?
- 27:31Speaker 2: Exactly. What happened?
- 27:33Speaker 1: Joke, joke, joke, joke, talking crazy.
- 27:36Speaker 2: He ain't going a damn place. We ain't going nowhere.
- 27:40Speaker 1: No, no, no, not with us. But coming up next,
- 27:42Speaker 1: we got some pretty good games here on the week,
- 27:44Speaker 1: whatever it is, Slate. Sorry, I can't remember. This show

- 31:35Speaker 1: So we're at this place now, right? It's the interesting
- 31:36Speaker 1: time of the NFL season with Deontay Lee. No need
- 31:40Speaker 1: to talk about the Cowboys anymore. Right. No need to
- 31:43Speaker 1: talk about the Chiefs anymore. We're supposed to talk about
- 31:47Speaker 1: the Carolina Panthers. I don't know what the hell they've
- 31:49Speaker 1: been doing over there. I just know they might go
- 31:51Speaker 1: to the postseason, right? Even America's team, the Detroit Lions,
- 31:55Speaker 1: they might, you know, they got a big game against Pittsburgh.
- 31:57Speaker 1: That one matters. The Ravens, I mean, I guess we
- 32:00Speaker 1: can keep talking about them and them playing against the Patriots.
- 32:04Speaker 1: is going to tell us a lot. But Jacksonville, Denver.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Oh, okay. We can talk.
- 32:11Speaker 1: This one is interesting because Trevor Lawrence looked great last week,
- 32:17Speaker 1: but they were playing against your team. And when I
- 32:19Speaker 1: say your team, I mean the high school team that
- 32:22Speaker 1: you coach. I mean, they were the Jets, but it's
- 32:25Speaker 1: about the same thing. On the other side, and you
- 32:29Speaker 1: follow the quarterbacks closely, it looks like Bo Nix was
- 32:32Speaker 1: really good against Green Bay.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I think we're kind of getting to that Jalen Hurts-esque place. Oh!
- 32:39Speaker 2: Where you can feel how you want to feel about
- 32:41Speaker 2: him most of the season. And I've heard it from
- 32:43Speaker 2: Broncos fans who have been real frustrated with me kind
- 32:46Speaker 2: of not bending the knee with the way that this
- 32:47Speaker 2: offense operates. And then you get that game against the Packers.
- 32:50Speaker 2: And I feel like, oh, this is going to be
- 32:52Speaker 2: a let's see the truth about Mo Nix game. And
- 32:55Speaker 2: then he goes out and he balls out and leads
- 32:57Speaker 2: his team to win in the second half of that one.
- 32:59Speaker 2: And you kind of just got to sit back and
- 33:00Speaker 2: accept what it is that we're looking at. I think
- 33:03Speaker 2: that this week for him and really the rest of
- 33:06Speaker 2: the run through the season, it's kind of cruise control, man.
- 33:10Speaker 2: I feel like because the Broncos have already kind of
- 33:12Speaker 2: locked up their spot in the playoffs, they were more
- 33:15Speaker 2: likely to not end up getting the one season. Kansas
- 33:17Speaker 2: City isn't going to have their starting quarterback. And I
- 33:20Speaker 2: think they're going to have more talent than the Chargers
- 33:22Speaker 2: will in week 18. And it might be in the Chargers'
- 33:24Speaker 2: best interest if they've locked up a wildcard spot to
- 33:27Speaker 2: go ahead and take their quarterback off the field to
- 33:28Speaker 2: make sure nothing bad happens to him. I think if
- 33:31Speaker 2: you're Bo Nix now, you're good. I'm about to go
- 33:33Speaker 2: lean on this defense. What I'm most interested in is,
- 33:37Speaker 2: and this is for all the AFC teams and not
- 33:38Speaker 2: just for Denver, what's going to happen if Houston keeps
- 33:41Speaker 2: rolling the way that they are? That's the team I
- 33:44Speaker 2: look at and I'm like. Look, man, I try not
- 33:47Speaker 2: to invoke, you know, those great teams from when I
- 33:49Speaker 2: was growing up. When I started thinking about the O2,
- 33:51Speaker 2: those O2 bucks, where it was, we're going to force
- 33:53Speaker 2: a bunch of turnovers. We're going to make every play hurt.
- 33:56Speaker 2: And by the end of the game, we're just going
- 33:57Speaker 2: to outlast you. I look at Houston and I say,
- 34:00Speaker 2: even if you're Jacksonville, even if you are Denver, especially
- 34:02Speaker 2: if you're New England, You got to be looking at
- 34:04Speaker 2: the bracket and saying, let's make sure we end up
- 34:06Speaker 2: on the opposite side of whatever's happening down there in Texas.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Well, they're also the sort of team that the dorks
- 34:14Speaker 1: and the somewhat dork inclined. And I add I am
- 34:16Speaker 1: in one of those groups. The record caught up. to
- 34:21Speaker 1: what the numbers in film seem to say to people, right?
- 34:25Speaker 1: They also did a decent bit of time where their
- 34:26Speaker 1: quarterback was not playing. And he is interesting because he
- 34:30Speaker 1: was so good, C.J. Stroud, that is, so good as
- 34:33Speaker 1: a rookie. I don't know exactly what the ceiling is.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I think we talked to somebody earlier this week where
- 34:37Speaker 1: I'm like, he's a guy that could win an MVP,
- 34:40Speaker 1: but I mean that like Matt Ryan could win an MVP, right?
- 34:43Speaker 1: Like he's a guy that could maybe get that done,
- 34:46Speaker 1: but he's definitely good enough if you got a monster defense.
- 34:49Speaker 1: that you can do something with it and they come
- 34:52Speaker 1: in for you, Jack. Yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 2: And I mean, after watching how they play Buffalo and
- 34:56Speaker 2: then watching how they play Kansas city, I'm like, I,
- 34:59Speaker 2: if I'm a quarterback, man, please, please just not them.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Anybody but them. I'd rather see Denver's defense than see
- 35:05Speaker 2: Houston's defense. And you don't really want to deal with
- 35:08Speaker 2: the Broncos either on that side of the ball. But
- 35:10Speaker 2: I am fascinated to see kind of how this thing
- 35:12Speaker 2: all shakes out. Cause right now Jacksonville sitting as a
- 35:14Speaker 2: three seat in the AFC, which is just not a
- 35:17Speaker 2: place that I thought that we'd be when we're trying
- 35:19Speaker 2: to project out who can win this conference. And it
- 35:22Speaker 2: comes back to what we said about Josh Allen. We
- 35:23Speaker 2: covered it with Houston. And I think if you're Denver,
- 35:27Speaker 2: you've got to be looking and saying as the one seed,
- 35:29Speaker 2: we probably get the worst of these teams. Maybe we
- 35:30Speaker 2: see a, Maybe we see Pittsburgh in the second round.
- 35:34Speaker 2: We might be kind of skating to the AFC championship game.
- 35:36Speaker 2: And it's entirely possible we get to February and we
- 35:39Speaker 2: still haven't answered the question for how much Bo Nix
- 35:41Speaker 2: is doing for this team's Super Bowl odds.
- 35:43Speaker 1: But see, this is you are correct, right? Like the
- 35:46Speaker 1: odds are there for them and you'll get them at altitude.
- 35:49Speaker 1: That is not an insignificant factor, right?
- 35:54Speaker 2: 100%.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I have only been to Denver once, right? But I
- 35:57Speaker 1: wasn't like running around and stuff like that. But hey, man,
- 36:00Speaker 1: playing at a mile off the ground, it's a thing.
- 36:04Speaker 2: It is. It's absolutely a thing.
- 36:06Speaker 1: We're still waiting on Bo Nix to have a good
- 36:08Speaker 1: playoff game. He's only played in one, and he was
- 36:10Speaker 1: awful in the one that he played against. Yeah, and so...
- 36:14Speaker 1: That's a lot to ask, man. And like we've seen,
- 36:16Speaker 1: we saw Lamar Jackson, how long, I mean, we don't
- 36:18Speaker 1: even know if he's actually there, like how long it
- 36:20Speaker 1: took him to like settle down and be able to
- 36:23Speaker 1: play decent football in the playoffs. Like this is, I'm
- 36:27Speaker 1: trying to think, the AFC, I mean, the Chiefs have
- 36:29Speaker 1: been in the championship game every year for what, the
- 36:31Speaker 1: last eight? Yeah.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Since Mahomes has been a starter, yeah.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so what we got here that makes this interesting
- 36:37Speaker 1: is we have mystery. over there in this side of it. Everybody's,
- 36:41Speaker 1: even Aaron Rodgers counts as a mystery because he's never
- 36:44Speaker 1: done this at 57 years old.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Right. I don't know if you're watching the Monday night game,
- 36:50Speaker 2: but I have to commend, you know, Troy Aikman and
- 36:53Speaker 2: Joe Buck trying to make that game sound a lot
- 36:54Speaker 2: more compelling from Aaron Rodgers than what it is. It
- 36:57Speaker 2: feels very 2015 Broncos offense. Not 2015 Broncos defense from Pittsburgh,
- 37:03Speaker 2: but it feels very much three yards in a cloud
- 37:05Speaker 2: of dust in the passing game, which is not really
- 37:07Speaker 2: how you want to live.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Hey, let me tell you right now, partner, I don't
- 37:10Speaker 1: think I'm going to be watching the Monday Night Football
- 37:11Speaker 1: game this week because I'm not going to just keep
- 37:13Speaker 1: watching until I see Phillip Rivers die. You understand what
- 37:16Speaker 1: I'm saying? I don't want to hear. I'll be very
- 37:19Speaker 1: curious to hear Troy Aikman try to find a way
- 37:21Speaker 1: to guilt that lily up.
- 37:23Speaker 2: And the one thing I will give him credit for,
- 37:25Speaker 2: when he don't like how you play in the position,
- 37:27Speaker 2: he does not miss words about it. He is going
- 37:29Speaker 2: to say in no uncertain terms that he is not
- 37:32Speaker 2: enjoying what he's seeing from quarterbacks. And based on what
- 37:34Speaker 2: we saw with Indianapolis against Seattle, I don't think he's
- 37:37Speaker 2: going to be very happy with all them bubble screens
- 37:39Speaker 2: and little short hitch routes and slants that Indianapolis is
- 37:42Speaker 2: going to be trying to run.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I have always found Aikman to be an unremarkable broadcaster.
- 37:47Speaker 1: He's been doing it forever now. But I had always
- 37:50Speaker 1: found him to be unremarkable. But as I get older,
- 37:52Speaker 1: I have a value for him being like, no, dawg.
- 37:56Speaker 1: this ain't it. And he doesn't raise his voice. Like
- 38:01Speaker 1: he never sounds like he's enjoying himself watching any of the,
- 38:04Speaker 1: he doesn't ever sound like he's enjoying himself ever. I'm
- 38:07Speaker 1: trying to think of what I've seen Troy Aikman laughing
- 38:09Speaker 1: and smiling about anything, including a Superbowl. You know what?
- 38:13Speaker 2: I think I'm sure you've had this experience, right? He
- 38:15Speaker 2: is the professor that is going to tell you you're
- 38:18Speaker 2: dumb for what you put on this paper without actually
- 38:21Speaker 2: saying it. Right. Yeah, I was looking at your argument
- 38:23Speaker 2: and I thought you tried to dress it up well, right?
- 38:26Speaker 2: And I see you went and got this empirical evidence.
- 38:28Speaker 2: The only problem with your argument is it's the worst
- 38:31Speaker 2: thing I've ever read. It is not coherent in X, Y,
- 38:34Speaker 2: or Z fashion.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I had a professor in graduate school and like, let's
- 38:38Speaker 1: just say that there's a spectrum. You understand me? Mm-hmm.
- 38:42Speaker 1: He's somewhere on it. Mm-hmm. Right? And not like, not
- 38:47Speaker 1: on the fringes of it either. Okay? Right. And I
- 38:51Speaker 1: asked him some question about a homework problem. Cause like
- 38:53Speaker 1: when you do a PhD econ stuff, you get a
- 38:55Speaker 1: homework problem. One problem take you all week, like literally. Okay.
- 38:59Speaker 1: And so I went to office hours to ask him
- 39:02Speaker 1: a question. He wouldn't even look at me.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:04Speaker 1: And I didn't think it was personal. Like I just,
- 39:05Speaker 1: you know, like I say, the spectrum, he's somewhere on it.
- 39:09Speaker 1: And I was explaining to myself. And that man said
- 39:11Speaker 1: to me, you are only off on one thing. And
- 39:16Speaker 1: that one thing is everything.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Listen, been there, okay? Took some constitutional law. We're trying
- 39:25Speaker 2: to work through, you know, how this had a precedent
- 39:27Speaker 2: for XYZ, give them all the legal analysis. And my
- 39:30Speaker 2: professor handed it back to me and was like, I'm
- 39:32Speaker 2: giving you a B minus for your vigor and commitment
- 39:35Speaker 2: to your own understanding for how you wrote this out.
- 39:40Speaker 2: But this is absolutely not what was being argued in
- 39:43Speaker 2: the courtroom on that day.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Let me tell you, man, after he said that to me,
- 39:46Speaker 1: I looked at him, he didn't look at me, but
- 39:47Speaker 1: I looked at him and was like, So what I'm
- 39:49Speaker 1: supposed to do with that? Like, I didn't, I didn't,
- 39:52Speaker 1: this isn't, I'm awful at one thing and that one
- 39:54Speaker 1: thing is everything. Well, get me on one thing.
- 39:57Speaker 2: One thing, right? Give me anything.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Yeah, Troy Aikman's just like, I can't believe it's 11
- 40:02Speaker 1: o'clock at night and I'm out here watching this. Can
- 40:04Speaker 1: you believe that? Like, can you believe this is what
- 40:06Speaker 1: I'm doing? But so, also, we got Pittsburgh and the Lions. Like,
- 40:11Speaker 1: my Lions, I don't, it doesn't look too good, right? But,
- 40:17Speaker 1: they get it at home. Like, I think they win
- 40:19Speaker 1: this one.
- 40:20Speaker 2: I do think that they win this one. I think
- 40:23Speaker 2: if you're Detroit, the only thing that you're kicking yourself
- 40:25Speaker 2: over is that game against Minnesota. You go and you
- 40:28Speaker 2: win that game against Minnesota a few weeks ago, and
- 40:31Speaker 2: now you kind of control your own destiny into the
- 40:33Speaker 2: playoffs because it would be a little bit safer in
- 40:35Speaker 2: terms of win-loss. I think that they will probably kick
- 40:38Speaker 2: around Pittsburgh's defense. The issue for them is you're just
- 40:41Speaker 2: going to need help the rest of the way. You
- 40:44Speaker 2: couldn't have possibly forecasted that Chicago would be as good
- 40:47Speaker 2: as fast as they've been. And I think that that's
- 40:49Speaker 2: really complicated, their picture, in terms of trying to get
- 40:52Speaker 2: into the postseason. Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Now, this is the game, though. Green Bay is just
- 40:56Speaker 1: Saturday night. Green Bay and Chicago. It's going to be
- 40:59Speaker 1: really cold.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And boys got throwing arms, though. Like, they will be
- 41:05Speaker 1: whipping it through the Hulk. The Hulk will be there.
- 41:08Speaker 1: It will be going. Where are you on the Bears?
- 41:12Speaker 1: I feel like there's less consensus on the Bears than
- 41:15Speaker 1: just about any team you could imagine being 10-4.
- 41:19Speaker 2: I think I believe in what they will be. I
- 41:22Speaker 2: do not believe all the way in what I'm watching
- 41:24Speaker 2: right now. And some of that probably is me still
- 41:27Speaker 2: being married to some of my preconceived notions of their
- 41:30Speaker 2: offensive line, some of the stuff that Caleb Williams has
- 41:32Speaker 2: struggled with in his first year and early in this season,
- 41:36Speaker 2: their defense, which is really not that impressive outside of
- 41:38Speaker 2: the turnovers that they force. But I watch every week
- 41:42Speaker 2: and we get to the second half and it's like, oh,
- 41:44Speaker 2: there goes Ben Johnson calling a good Ben Johnson plays again.
- 41:47Speaker 2: You know, there's Caleb Williams escaping pressure and ripping the ball.
- 41:50Speaker 2: You know, you kind of spoke to it about it
- 41:51Speaker 2: being cold and windy. People talk about how arm strength
- 41:54Speaker 2: is overrated. You should go watch how Caleb Williams was
- 41:57Speaker 2: throwing in the cold against Cleveland last week. That's what
- 42:00Speaker 2: arm talent will do for you because it certainly didn't
- 42:01Speaker 2: look like that ball was losing any velocity. I think
- 42:05Speaker 2: that I think they're a legitimate playoff team because we
- 42:08Speaker 2: just got this parody in the league. I do not
- 42:10Speaker 2: think that what we watch is actually reflective of a
- 42:13Speaker 2: 10 plus win team. And I don't think that they're
- 42:16Speaker 2: as talented as Green Bay. All that said, it's entirely
- 42:19Speaker 2: possible that we're going to get to the end of
- 42:20Speaker 2: that game and Ben Johnson will have schemed them up
- 42:22Speaker 2: and they end up winning by 10 or so points, right?
- 42:25Speaker 2: I think that that's in the realm of possibility. I
- 42:26Speaker 2: just don't think this is a team that's actually competing
- 42:29Speaker 2: to get into the NFC championship game.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Are the Packers?
- 42:34Speaker 2: Before Michael Parsons tore his ACL, I would have said yes.
- 42:39Speaker 1: But I feel like we felt pretty good about them
- 42:41Speaker 1: before they got him, right?
- 42:44Speaker 2: That's fair. That's fair. You know what? To me, this
- 42:46Speaker 2: is a lot of this is Oklahoma City before Shea
- 42:50Speaker 2: Gilgis Alexander became Shea Gilgis Alexander. And we keep waiting
- 42:53Speaker 2: for Jordan Love to take that leap. Right. And I
- 42:56Speaker 2: think that this game, as well as last week against Denver,
- 43:00Speaker 2: is where we keep kind of say, all right, buddy,
- 43:02Speaker 2: real defenses. Right. High stakes games. We've seen this thing falter.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Now's your time to go put that big arm. And
- 43:09Speaker 2: all that ambition with throwing the ball deep downfield, this
- 43:11Speaker 2: is where we need you to turn the corner. And
- 43:13Speaker 2: it's just been mixed results, right? And I think that
- 43:16Speaker 2: for him, he's in that same place. So he's in
- 43:18Speaker 2: a similar place to where we are with like a
- 43:20Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson, right? Where Jackson is the MVP, right? So
- 43:22Speaker 2: it's a little bit different context in terms of the
- 43:24Speaker 2: national conversation. But we keep waiting for these guys that
- 43:27Speaker 2: we want to crown as potential champions, being in the
- 43:30Speaker 2: top five quarterback conversation. And we just have not gotten
- 43:33Speaker 2: over the hump in the way that we need to
- 43:35Speaker 2: in these high leverage moments.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Hey, man, the thing about top five is it only
- 43:38Speaker 1: got five.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Exactly. All right. Somebody got to be seven. Somebody got
- 43:42Speaker 2: to be nine.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Somebody's got to be there. Right. Did the Eagles fool
- 43:46Speaker 1: you last week? They went out there. They also destroyed
- 43:49Speaker 1: your team, your high school team that you coach. I mean,
- 43:53Speaker 1: I didn't think the Raiders are going to be this bad.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I was like, OK, got Gino, got Pete. Like there
- 43:57Speaker 1: could be. They are awful. And I feel like good
- 44:01Speaker 1: for you. Eagles means nothing.
- 44:04Speaker 2: It means absolutely nothing. Man, I've been we've been around
- 44:06Speaker 2: football too long. I know that game. I know that
- 44:08Speaker 2: game like the back of my hand, man. I watch
- 44:11Speaker 2: college football. I know this game. You go and you
- 44:13Speaker 2: lose your top 25 matchup. And then you've got, you know,
- 44:16Speaker 2: you've got the sisters of the traveling poor coming in
- 44:19Speaker 2: the next week. We about to go ahead and just
- 44:20Speaker 2: kick the hell out of them to feel a little
- 44:22Speaker 2: bit better about ourselves. But that don't mean that we're
- 44:24Speaker 2: going to be champions. If they were going to fix
- 44:26Speaker 2: what they needed to fix to be a real team,
- 44:28Speaker 2: we would have seen it much earlier. Right. And I
- 44:30Speaker 2: think that their defense, similar to Denver, right, they can
- 44:33Speaker 2: get hot. and end up shutting down enough teams maybe
- 44:36Speaker 2: to get deep in the playoffs. But in terms of
- 44:38Speaker 2: what we've seen offensively, there's no way. We would have
- 44:41Speaker 2: seen it already if they had it, and they clearly
- 44:43Speaker 2: don't have it. And that's going to put, I think,
- 44:45Speaker 2: Nick Sirianni in the exact position he was in after 2023,
- 44:49Speaker 2: which is where he don't like to be. where he's
- 44:51Speaker 2: winning all these games in the regular season and nobody
- 44:54Speaker 2: knows what you do and whether or not you're valuable.
- 44:59Speaker 2: I'm trying not to let it jump out of me, Bo.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I'm trying not to let it jump out of me.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I don't think anybody is more clear on the I
- 45:05Speaker 1: don't see what's going on with this guy that you
- 45:08Speaker 1: are about Sirianni. And I admit, I don't know what's
- 45:10Speaker 1: going on with them either. They just win a lot
- 45:12Speaker 1: of games. But when they're not good, they're not good
- 45:15Speaker 1: in ways that speak to coaching. When they are good,
- 45:19Speaker 1: I don't give him any credit for that. None. And
- 45:22Speaker 1: that feels horribly unfair.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Look, man, I'm in the high school ranks. We've seen
- 45:26Speaker 2: those high school hoops teams, O-A-A-U hoops teams, where you
- 45:30Speaker 2: got one set and we're running flex. We're running motion.
- 45:33Speaker 2: And all motion really means is pass it to Will, right?
- 45:36Speaker 2: That's the whole offense. And with them, when they do
- 45:40Speaker 2: the things that are obvious, get the ball to A.J. Brown,
- 45:42Speaker 2: get the ball to Devontae Smith, right? Run the ball
- 45:44Speaker 2: behind the offensive line that has taken a step back
- 45:46Speaker 2: this year. I will say that that is a complicating
- 45:48Speaker 2: factor that they might not have anticipated. All that stuff
- 45:52Speaker 2: is stuff anybody can do. You don't got to hire
- 45:54Speaker 2: Sean McVay to go put together an offense for A.J.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Brown and Devontae Smith. But if you can't get an
- 45:59Speaker 2: offense with those guys and you were an offensive coach
- 46:02Speaker 2: before you became a head coach, I think it's fair
- 46:04Speaker 2: for us to ask, what exactly is it that we
- 46:07Speaker 2: are doing with you that's adding value to this operation?
- 46:11Speaker 1: Well, you know what coach they need to hire? It's
- 46:13Speaker 1: another coach that's won a championship with that exact roster.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Kirby Smart.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Man, we can make, man. That would be a hilarious combination.
- 46:24Speaker 2: I'm trying to consider what Kirby Smart would be with
- 46:27Speaker 2: Philadelphia Media.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Oh, no, Kirby will handle that.
- 46:30Speaker 2: That would be very Buddy Ryan-esque, I would think.
- 46:32Speaker 1: I think Kirby could navigate that. I'm just saying, don't
- 46:35Speaker 1: nobody know that roster better than Kirby. It's all his guys.
- 46:38Speaker 1: All his guys are out there. Gunner Stockton will be
- 46:40Speaker 1: their quarterback in a year or two. Whatever their quarterback is,
- 46:44Speaker 1: it'll be some white guy with two last names.
- 46:47Speaker 2: You want to try to go get George Pickens, right?
- 46:49Speaker 2: I'm going to go bring back my old headache.
- 46:52Speaker 1: I think he might be like, nah, dog. I've, I've, I've,
- 46:58Speaker 1: I've written this one as far as it'll go. It's
- 47:00Speaker 1: funny that you mentioned that with Pickens, because I think
- 47:02Speaker 1: you and I have talked about this, but I talked
- 47:04Speaker 1: about this with somebody else to me, even it's going
- 47:06Speaker 1: to go a little bit under the radar, but the
- 47:08Speaker 1: biggest surprise of this NFL season for me personally, is
- 47:11Speaker 1: that Brian Schottenheimer appears to be a good NFL coach.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And again, I have felt that Dak Prescott is a
- 47:18Speaker 1: very good quarterback with not a low ceiling, but an
- 47:22Speaker 1: apparent ceiling. But that is not what he has looked
- 47:24Speaker 1: like this year at all. At all. He's looked like
- 47:27Speaker 1: a top four dude.
- 47:29Speaker 2: I'm about about five weeks into the season. I was
- 47:32Speaker 2: sitting there listening to Brian Schottenheimer talking to postgame conference.
- 47:35Speaker 2: And I'm like, God damn it. Do I like this man?
- 47:38Speaker 2: What's happening right now? This sounds like a really good
- 47:41Speaker 2: football coach. This is not how I felt about this
- 47:43Speaker 2: man in Seattle. This is not how I felt about
- 47:45Speaker 2: him as an offensive coordinator in Dallas.
- 47:47Speaker 1: And Georgia or any of these other places he's been.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Right. I mean, I never thought that he was terrible. Right.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I think that he's taking a lot of blame. Maybe
- 47:54Speaker 2: outside of Georgia. The Georgia time there was real, was
- 47:57Speaker 2: real rough. what the expectations were.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 48:00Speaker 2: And I don't think that he got the offense where
- 48:01Speaker 2: he needed it to be there. But as far as
- 48:03Speaker 2: being in the NFL, I feel like everywhere he's been,
- 48:06Speaker 2: he's probably added value. Maybe this is him inheriting some
- 48:09Speaker 2: of how I feel about his daddy. Right. And that
- 48:13Speaker 2: is kind of tainted the way that I look at
- 48:15Speaker 2: the Schottenheimer last name. But he's been great with Dak.
- 48:18Speaker 2: And it's a shame that he's got to play for
- 48:20Speaker 2: the owner that he's got. Because if they would have
- 48:22Speaker 2: had a serious roster going in with the way that
- 48:23Speaker 2: Dak Prescott's been playing, he could have been in the
- 48:26Speaker 2: MVP race. And this team absolutely could have been competing
- 48:29Speaker 2: to win the NFC.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Hey, also this man, his father, no matter what anybody
- 48:35Speaker 1: ever says, was an excellent coach. One game away from
- 48:43Speaker 1: being in the Hall of Fame. It's one of those
- 48:45Speaker 1: John Elway games. he's probably like john elway game the
- 48:49Speaker 1: drive in january 1987 if the browns win that one
- 48:52Speaker 1: yeah marty schottenheimer probably makes if ernest beiner doesn't fumble
- 48:56Speaker 1: in 1988 he probably does and then i am assuming
- 49:00Speaker 1: that you did the charges thing i don't think people
- 49:02Speaker 1: talk nearly enough and i forget what the play was
- 49:06Speaker 1: i mean who the player was but you know what
- 49:07Speaker 1: i'm talking about mccree Okay, it was Ronald McCree. Yes,
- 49:10Speaker 1: it was. Interception to ice that game against the Patriots,
- 49:13Speaker 1: and then they gave up the booty and it went
- 49:16Speaker 1: back the other way.
- 49:17Speaker 2: And that's the LT MVP. year where he looked like
- 49:21Speaker 2: one of the best players.
- 49:22Speaker 1: He had like 27 touchdowns.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Yes. You know, that's when you got Antonio Gates at
- 49:26Speaker 2: the peak of his powers. You got a young Phillip Rivers,
- 49:29Speaker 2: Sean Merriman, Sean Phillips. That team was stacked. That team
- 49:32Speaker 2: was pretty loaded. And if you go and look at
- 49:34Speaker 2: what the rest of the AFC playoff bracket was, And
- 49:37Speaker 2: how the Chargers were playing them at that point in time,
- 49:39Speaker 2: they 100% if they beat New England, at least get
- 49:42Speaker 2: to the AFC title game and very likely could have
- 49:45Speaker 2: gone to the Super Bowl. And I would have taken
- 49:47Speaker 2: my chances with that offense against any team they would
- 49:50Speaker 2: have seen coming out of the NFC. So yeah, I
- 49:52Speaker 2: think if Marty Schottenheimer gets over the hump there, even
- 49:54Speaker 2: if it is that late in his career in 2006,
- 49:56Speaker 2: he probably does reclaim enough of those failures to be
- 49:59Speaker 2: able to get himself in the hall.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Yeah, look here, man. because they only had two losing
- 50:03Speaker 1: seasons ever. I'm certain of this.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Almost never had a bad offense either.
- 50:09Speaker 1: No, just never a great one, right? Except for what
- 50:12Speaker 1: we were just talking about. But they would have beaten
- 50:14Speaker 1: the 06 Colts because if there's anything that Peyton Manning
- 50:17Speaker 1: did not need to see is a stacked 3-4 defense. Hell,
- 50:20Speaker 1: they beat them in the playoffs before. They were the
- 50:24Speaker 1: exact sort of team to give Peyton Manning fits and
- 50:27Speaker 1: then they would have gone out there and played against
- 50:29Speaker 1: the Rex Grossman, Chicago Bears.
- 50:34Speaker 2: And I'm telling you right now, if I'll go outside
- 50:36Speaker 2: right now and just yell out 2006 outside my complex,
- 50:39Speaker 2: I'm going to get cussed out on my balcony, okay?
- 50:42Speaker 2: Because nobody here wants to think about it, talk about it,
- 50:44Speaker 2: or see about it, okay?
- 50:46Speaker 1: Y'all still might have had a team today that won
- 50:47Speaker 1: that game.
- 50:49Speaker 2: You're not lying. You're not lying. And now all these
- 50:51Speaker 2: poor Chargers fans that have been adrift have now all
- 50:54Speaker 2: kind of adopted the Padres. which is just inheriting a
- 50:57Speaker 2: whole lot of the same kind of heartbreak.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Hey, man, but at least the Padres are spending money.
- 51:01Speaker 1: I don't know if they're still doing it now that
- 51:02Speaker 1: Buddy passed away. Rest in peace. But they was throwing
- 51:06Speaker 1: that bread around, though.
- 51:07Speaker 2: And it looks nice. I mean, going to Petco was
- 51:09Speaker 2: one of the nicest parks you can be at in
- 51:12Speaker 2: the majors, right? So everybody feels good when they go.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I think they're probably a couple pieces away. And like
- 51:17Speaker 2: you said, now the ownership is obviously going to be
- 51:19Speaker 2: going in transition. We'll see what that roster looks like
- 51:21Speaker 2: because it probably ain't going to be as nice as
- 51:23Speaker 2: it was in 2022 and 2023.
- 51:25Speaker 1: I can't imagine living in San Diego and my job
- 51:27Speaker 1: is to be intense. Because how am I supposed to
- 51:31Speaker 1: do that?
- 51:31Speaker 2: I got to get myself out of bed early enough
- 51:33Speaker 2: to get there every day. It's hard to be mad, man.
- 51:39Speaker 2: It is hard to have an attitude. I cannot lie
- 51:42Speaker 2: to you. It is hard to have an attitude.
- 51:43Speaker 1: 70 degrees again? Right.
- 51:49Speaker 2: How poor old me. As a matter of fact, if
- 51:52Speaker 2: anybody can identify, it's Mr. Pissing Off Cleveland for three
- 51:56Speaker 2: straight winners. Yes. So I know you can identify with that. God,
- 52:02Speaker 2: I did.
- 52:02Speaker 1: But see, the difference is Miami can get super hot
- 52:05Speaker 1: on you. Miami gets rain on you. Hurricane type situation.
- 52:10Speaker 1: San Diego is just like, what if it was the
- 52:13Speaker 1: same great day every day?
- 52:14Speaker 2: That's why I can't even talk weather with my buddies.
- 52:17Speaker 2: I start complaining about how it's 55 degrees and people
- 52:20Speaker 2: want to throw me out the group chat because nobody
- 52:22Speaker 2: want to hear that shit.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Well, my problem when I was in Miami was ain't
- 52:26Speaker 1: nobody want to share in my joy. Everybody was just
- 52:29Speaker 1: all wrapped up in themselves. Ain't nobody want to share
- 52:32Speaker 1: in my joy.
- 52:34Speaker 2: You know, misery, you know what misery seeks. And if
- 52:36Speaker 2: you ain't got none of it, they don't want you around.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Oh my God. Let me tell you, I don't, I
- 52:40Speaker 1: don't ever miss Miami, but I do miss the weather
- 52:44Speaker 1: in my, like you miss things about Miami. But that January, February, boy,
- 52:50Speaker 1: that was, I remember, but I tell you this though,
- 52:52Speaker 1: 50 degrees there, it's cold, it's the same in San Diego.
- 52:54Speaker 1: The 50 that you get is different than the 50
- 52:56Speaker 1: that you get in other places. Exactly.
- 52:58Speaker 2: They don't know that. They don't understand. They can't understand
- 53:02Speaker 2: what it's like coming off the coast.
- 53:04Speaker 1: See what I'm saying? See what I'm saying? They ain't
- 53:06Speaker 1: never had to rough it like we done had to
- 53:07Speaker 1: rough it.
- 53:08Speaker 2: See, and I wish, I wish for more of our
- 53:11Speaker 2: American public that they got to experience that so that
- 53:13Speaker 2: way they'd have a deeper appreciation of for what it
- 53:15Speaker 2: is that they have, right? That's really what it is.
- 53:18Speaker 1: That's right. You know what I'm saying? It's me and
- 53:20Speaker 1: Deontay Lee from the ring. And we teach y'all about appreciation,
- 53:23Speaker 1: the head coach. We got to come up with something
- 53:25Speaker 1: like a sister nickname for you in the center. I'll
- 53:27Speaker 1: start calling you coach. Like I do my high school
- 53:29Speaker 1: coach called him coach of the day he died. You
- 53:31Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? Like, this is just what it is.
- 53:32Speaker 1: You're going to be coached forever to them young boys.
- 53:35Speaker 2: One hundred percent. I got coaches that I had in
- 53:37Speaker 2: high school now that I'm in my 30s and they
- 53:39Speaker 2: were in their 30s and they were coaching me and
- 53:41Speaker 2: their kids now are in high school and it's never
- 53:43Speaker 2: going to change. But I'm also forever coaches, coaches forever.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'm also trying to imagine you hollering at them boys.
- 53:49Speaker 1: It's kind of hard for me to grasp.
- 53:51Speaker 2: I'll see. And that's something we, if I'm ever in
- 53:54Speaker 2: New York and we get a chance to cross paths, right?
- 53:57Speaker 2: I think that you got to hear some personal reference
- 54:00Speaker 2: on that, right?
- 54:00Speaker 1: Because how I.
- 54:01Speaker 2: Project as a media member is 100% different than what's
- 54:05Speaker 2: happening once I step out on the turf.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Hey man, I appreciate you, brother.
- 54:09Speaker 2: All right, man. I appreciate being on.
- 54:12Speaker 1: All right, man. Ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for
- 54:14Speaker 1: joining us here on The Right Time. We do this
- 54:16Speaker 1: four times a week. Ryan Brumley handles everything behind the scenes.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Thank you, sir. Hit our voicemail line, 323-596-9000. 7-7-6-7. This
- 54:25Speaker 1: is our last episode of 2025. It has been a
- 54:28Speaker 1: wonderful year. I want to say thanks to Sean Yu
- 54:30Speaker 1: for the first half of it. And thanks so much
- 54:32Speaker 1: to Ryan Brumley for what he's done since he's gotten here.
- 54:35Speaker 1: And of course, thank all of you. We got big
- 54:38Speaker 1: plans for you in 2026. In fact, I'll go ahead
- 54:41Speaker 1: and tell one. Get ready. We're going to start doing
- 54:43Speaker 1: Time Machine Tuesday. So every Tuesday, we're going to have
- 54:46Speaker 1: some sort of material that looks back at something that
- 54:49Speaker 1: happened in sports in the past. We definitely already got
- 54:51Speaker 1: it set up. where we're going to have, talk about
- 54:53Speaker 1: the Vince Young Rose Bowl. That's going to be our
- 54:55Speaker 1: first one that we talk about. That's also where we'll
- 54:57Speaker 1: do our series on wrapping the year 1996. We're going
- 55:01Speaker 1: to keep that going on Tuesday, so we got something
- 55:03Speaker 1: consistent that you guys know is going to be there.
- 55:06Speaker 1: So thank you for working with us through changes we've
- 55:08Speaker 1: made and adjustments and everything else. And remember, follow the
- 55:11Speaker 1: right time. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us, give us
- 55:14Speaker 1: five stars. You only give us four stars. I'm inclined
- 55:16Speaker 1: to believe you are a hater. We'll talk to you
- 55:17Speaker 1: guys in a couple of days. Take it easy.
