- 0:03Speaker 1: Hi again everybody. I'm Dan Horde and thanks for downloading
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Bengals Booth Podcast. The I'll be back in the
- 0:12Speaker 1: laugh again addition, as I discussed Cincinnati's defensive upgrades with
- 0:18Speaker 1: NFL analyst and Bengals on the Brain YouTube host Joe Goodberry.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Then Dave Lapham joins me to share his thoughts on
- 0:26Speaker 1: the new additions to the Bengals Ring of Honor ballad.

- 1:02Speaker 1: thing since the presidential statues in Rapid City, South Dakota.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I mentioned on last week's podcast that my wife and
- 1:11Speaker 1: I recently visited Mount Rushmore. While we were there, we
- 1:15Speaker 1: stayed for a night in nearby Rapid City, and they've
- 1:19Speaker 1: capitalized on their proximity to the Mount Rushmore Monument with
- 1:23Speaker 1: a cool tourist attraction of their own. There are life
- 1:26Speaker 1: sized bronze statues of nearly all of the US presidents
- 1:31Speaker 1: lining the city streets and sidewalks. The only president missing
- 1:35Speaker 1: is Joe Biden, and that statue is in the works.
- 1:39Speaker 1: It's like a scavenger hunt. On one corner you might
- 1:42Speaker 1: see John F. Kennedy. On the next, Martin van Buren.
- 1:46Speaker 1: My only regret is that I didn't take the time
- 1:49Speaker 1: to post for a picture next to the statue of
- 1:52Speaker 1: our twelfth President, Zachary Taylor. Now let's get to my
- 1:57Speaker 1: first guest this week. We welcome come back one of
- 2:01Speaker 1: my favorite NFL analysts, Joe Goodberry. If you're not already
- 2:05Speaker 1: watching his Bengals on the Brain videos on YouTube, presented
- 2:09Speaker 1: by First Star Logistics, you're missing out on some tremendous content.
- 2:13Speaker 1: The Bengals roster has been significantly upgraded through free agency
- 2:18Speaker 1: and the draft, meaning it's a great time to check
- 2:21Speaker 1: in with Joe. Joe, you have been creating Bengals content
- 2:26Speaker 1: and providing analysis for nearly two decades now. Were you
- 2:30Speaker 1: shocked when you learned about the Dexter Lawrence trade.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Completely shocked. I mean I was one of the people
- 2:36Speaker 2: that were like, sure, it'd be great, but I'm not
- 2:39Speaker 2: even going to spend more than a minute thinking about it,
- 2:42Speaker 2: because remember the few weeks before it happened, It's kind
- 2:46Speaker 2: of a two avenues met at the same time. One
- 2:48Speaker 2: was the feeling that they didn't do enough in free
- 2:50Speaker 2: agency and this couldn't be what Jamar Chase and t
- 2:53Speaker 2: Higgins went on Radio Row and what Joe Burrow was
- 2:56Speaker 2: expecting right where was the big fish? It was a
- 2:58Speaker 2: good free agency and we'll talk about it, but there
- 3:00Speaker 2: was that feeling was like running parallel to what was happening.
- 3:03Speaker 2: And like three weeks leading up to the Dexter Lawrence trade,
- 3:06Speaker 2: on social media, a lot of people there was buzz.
- 3:08Speaker 2: People were hearing things for whatever reason, and they'd ask,
- 3:11Speaker 2: what are the chances? What do you think? And my
- 3:13Speaker 2: response every time was I'm not even gonna think about it.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So when it happened, I was like, I cannot believe this.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I mean, we went live, we had a whole thing
- 3:22Speaker 2: because what a you know, I mean, you could be
- 3:24Speaker 2: a Bengals hand for fifty years, has something like that happened.
- 3:28Speaker 2: They've made trades, They've had some big signings. We've talked
- 3:31Speaker 2: about tarall Owen's like, man, look at the superstar, but
- 3:33Speaker 2: not like this, not in a super Bowl window, not
- 3:36Speaker 2: when the team needs this juice inserted, And man, did
- 3:41Speaker 2: they do it in a big way.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I did a podcast in February with our mutual friend
- 3:45Speaker 1: James Rapine, and one of the categories for each of
- 3:49Speaker 1: us was to provide a hot take, and my hot
- 3:53Speaker 1: take on February twelfth was that the Bengals should trade
- 3:57Speaker 1: the tenth overall pick to the Raiders for Max Crosby.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I think, when you consider age and contract, I'd rather
- 4:06Speaker 1: have Dexter Lawrence.
- 4:08Speaker 2: What about you too? Yeah, the last couple of years
- 4:10Speaker 2: I was doing this when the Bengals maybe there was
- 4:12Speaker 2: still maybe a small chance that Trey Hendrickson could return, right,
- 4:16Speaker 2: we at least had to explore that heading into free agency,
- 4:18Speaker 2: that it could happen, and the idea that the Bengals
- 4:21Speaker 2: could be interested in Max Crosby. Reports were that they
- 4:23Speaker 2: at least called and I believe from what you know
- 4:25Speaker 2: people I talked to that they did have interest in it,
- 4:27Speaker 2: but I was looking at it like the last couple
- 4:29Speaker 2: of years for Max weren't his best years number one,
- 4:33Speaker 2: and the Raiders don't have a lot around him. He
- 4:35Speaker 2: was really fighting for his life out there to even
- 4:38Speaker 2: get a playoff sometimes because he'd be doubled and triple teams.
- 4:42Speaker 2: But he was still really good against the run. But
- 4:44Speaker 2: his pass rush numbers were at this point eroding pretty routinely.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And that's a pretty scary sign when you see pass
- 4:51Speaker 2: rush win rates start to drop by four or five
- 4:54Speaker 2: percent every year for the last two to three years,
- 4:56Speaker 2: And for Dexter Lawrence, that really hasn't happened. And it's
- 4:59Speaker 2: funny because the the kind of the narrative after the
- 5:02Speaker 2: Bengals tradeed forms, they gave up too much. His best
- 5:04Speaker 2: years were two years ago, and I went back and
- 5:06Speaker 2: looked at the data. His numbers haven't really fallen off.
- 5:09Speaker 2: If you look at the advanced analytics, the past rush
- 5:12Speaker 2: win rate, how much he's being doubled, And it really
- 5:15Speaker 2: just comes down to are you in more of the
- 5:17Speaker 2: back of the nineteen eighty six baseball card that says
- 5:19Speaker 2: how many home runs you had, or are you're more
- 5:21Speaker 2: into what a guy's bat speed looks like in launch
- 5:24Speaker 2: angle and things like that. And for Dixter Lawrence, he
- 5:27Speaker 2: is still winning at an incredibly high rate. You throw
- 5:29Speaker 2: on the tape and he is getting doubled, and he
- 5:32Speaker 2: is a man amongst boys. He's such a rare player.
- 5:34Speaker 2: You could talk about him and how unique he is,
- 5:38Speaker 2: how much of a unicorn he is at that position.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Those tackles don't get pass rush numbers like him, they
- 5:44Speaker 2: don't accumulate pressures, they don't win in past rush situations.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Oh and they don't typically just line up at the
- 5:49Speaker 2: nose and get doubled as often as he does. He's
- 5:52Speaker 2: leading all of those tackles in the league last five
- 5:55Speaker 2: years in a gap snaps and double team rate, and
- 5:58Speaker 2: by far he's got seven need more pressures than the
- 6:01Speaker 2: next nose tackle. He's just an absolute freak.
- 6:05Speaker 1: How does he compare to DJ Reader at DJ's best.
- 6:10Speaker 2: At DJ's best, he was a force multiplayer and that
- 6:14Speaker 2: that phrase has been thrown around a bunch go heading
- 6:16Speaker 2: into this offseason, right El Golden was like, we kind
- 6:18Speaker 2: of need those guys. I thought Jesse Bates was one.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I thought DJ Reader was one. I believe Trey Hendrickson
- 6:23Speaker 2: was one as well. When you have multiple of them,
- 6:25Speaker 2: you can you can build around them with guys that
- 6:28Speaker 2: maybe are average or just you know your run of
- 6:30Speaker 2: the middle defenders, and you can put together a good defense.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And DJ Reader was extremely good against the run. Physical
- 6:37Speaker 2: at the point of attack, can handle double teams, had
- 6:39Speaker 2: great vision, could really lock guys out and really control
- 6:42Speaker 2: them without breaking much of a sweat while keeping his
- 6:44Speaker 2: eyes on the ball. He's got to shut him, He's
- 6:46Speaker 2: got to work them back the other way. Whatever he
- 6:48Speaker 2: had to do, Reader could do it. He looked like
- 6:50Speaker 2: he was in full control of whatever was happening around him.
- 6:53Speaker 2: H versus the run. I wouldn't say Lawrence is as
- 6:56Speaker 2: good there. There are times he can get pushed backwards
- 7:00Speaker 2: or get moved a little bit. But I think he's
- 7:02Speaker 2: more of a athlete than DJ Reader was. He can
- 7:06Speaker 2: play you a little bit differently. It's not all strength
- 7:08Speaker 2: and technique. While he's really good there, he can also
- 7:11Speaker 2: beat you with athleticism. So he tries to do that.
- 7:13Speaker 2: He tries to throw that curveball every once in a while.
- 7:15Speaker 2: A Reader didn't right, he was a fastball only pitcher.
- 7:18Speaker 2: We got more baseball analogy somehow today. But you know
- 7:21Speaker 2: so there is a bit of a mix for Lawrence
- 7:23Speaker 2: which allows him to win at times, but also he
- 7:26Speaker 2: loses a couple times on that. As a pass rusher,
- 7:29Speaker 2: it's not even close. Reader was a capable nose tackle.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Deck could get you have four sacks in a season,
- 7:35Speaker 2: could get you maybe thirty pressures. Even if he was
- 7:37Speaker 2: out there in nickel packages. He wasn't out there all
- 7:39Speaker 2: the time in your pass ress situations. Lawrence is not
- 7:42Speaker 2: going to come off the field. He's going to be
- 7:44Speaker 2: one of your best run defenders. He's going to be
- 7:46Speaker 2: a guy that commands double teams in your base defense.
- 7:48Speaker 2: He's going to make your front work. You start with him.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Offenses are going to start with him when they start
- 7:54Speaker 2: their pass protection and run blocking schemes, and then he's
- 7:57Speaker 2: going to be out there in your pass ress situation
- 7:59Speaker 2: because he's one of your best pass rushers. He can
- 8:02Speaker 2: win from all alignments, and he can do so much
- 8:04Speaker 2: that that's what makes them different and separates him from
- 8:07Speaker 2: the run of the mill nose tackles.
- 8:09Speaker 1: He's a gigantic man in a sport filled with gigantic men.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But as I've watched some of the offseason practices. The
- 8:16Speaker 1: way he moves is mind blowing. Is that the differentiator
- 8:21Speaker 1: with him just how well he moves at that mammoth size.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's typically those tackles aren't that athletic, they're not
- 8:29Speaker 2: that explosive, and he carries that that weight really really well. Right,
- 8:35Speaker 2: Some guys have the you know, it's getting into scounting
- 8:38Speaker 2: terms and could be sometimes maybe offensive. But you know,
- 8:40Speaker 2: when you get the big guys, sometimes they're sloppy, sometimes
- 8:43Speaker 2: they're not, you know, completely strong cut, cut up, chiseled.
- 8:47Speaker 2: You can carry three hundred and forty pounds in a
- 8:49Speaker 2: lot of different ways, surprisingly, you know. And Lawrence to
- 8:53Speaker 2: me is the right bill that you want for a
- 8:56Speaker 2: guy to be a stout at the point of attack
- 8:58Speaker 2: and drop anchor and handle the team. But also when
- 9:01Speaker 2: he starts getting going forward or cutting laterally to try
- 9:04Speaker 2: and cross the face of alignment, it's shocking how quick
- 9:07Speaker 2: he moves.
- 9:08Speaker 1: All right, let me follow up on the notion of
- 9:10Speaker 1: being a force multiplier. You use that expression for DJ reader,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and certainly we're thinking about how dexter Lawrence can do
- 9:16Speaker 1: the same thing. You study far more tape than I do.
- 9:20Speaker 1: For your analysis on the Bengals on the Brain YouTube
- 9:23Speaker 1: channel presented by First Star Logistics. What do you expect
- 9:28Speaker 1: from the second year linebackers as the result of Dexter
- 9:32Speaker 1: Lawrence's presence.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I do expect them to be better just because it's
- 9:36Speaker 2: their second year. Just to start with that they have
- 9:40Speaker 2: stayed with BJ Hill and maybe even Jonathan Allen and TJ. Slaton,
- 9:43Speaker 2: they would have been better just because of experience we've
- 9:46Speaker 2: seen in today's NFL. Linebackers coming from college have probably
- 9:50Speaker 2: the steepest learning curve if you want to use PFF grades.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I did a study on this. The lowest performing position
- 9:56Speaker 2: as a rookie is linebacker over the last ten years.
- 10:00Speaker 2: So that's to be expected that they will struggle and
- 10:02Speaker 2: they typically get better in year two. So start there. Now,
- 10:06Speaker 2: how does Dexter Lawrence become a force multiplayer and help
- 10:09Speaker 2: them When you are commanding the attention in the middle
- 10:13Speaker 2: of the defense and it requires you to block him
- 10:16Speaker 2: with two guys because if you may try, and this
- 10:19Speaker 2: is it's funny when you watch the film, it'll be
- 10:21Speaker 2: eight plays in a row he's getting doubled and you're like, Okay, Lawrence,
- 10:23Speaker 2: really hasn't any chance to do anything. And then there's
- 10:25Speaker 2: the single block and there's him killing the play, and
- 10:28Speaker 2: it's like, okay, offense, go back to doubling him for
- 10:31Speaker 2: eight more plays. So they get tired of the linebackers
- 10:34Speaker 2: beating them because you're not sending that center up to
- 10:36Speaker 2: go get the linebacker, and they're like, okay, single block
- 10:39Speaker 2: Lawrence this time, let's go get that linebacker. And then
- 10:41Speaker 2: Lawrence kills that play. So it's you can double team
- 10:45Speaker 2: him and neutralize him, but at the risk and at
- 10:47Speaker 2: the detriment of your own offense and allowing these linebackers
- 10:51Speaker 2: to be free, which is the idea. If you have
- 10:53Speaker 2: good defensive tackles in front of you, as a linebacker,
- 10:56Speaker 2: you're not dealing with lineman getting up to you're not
- 10:58Speaker 2: dealing with the line of scrimmage getting pushed at you.
- 11:01Speaker 2: You have more time to react, more time to read.
- 11:03Speaker 2: You have clearer vision, you can see what's happening. You
- 11:05Speaker 2: can get to these holes quicker and with more authority
- 11:08Speaker 2: because you're free to do it, So they're gonna have
- 11:11Speaker 2: more chances to make plays. I thought they dealt with
- 11:14Speaker 2: that especially the first half of the year, not only
- 11:16Speaker 2: are you swimming as a rookie? Last year, the defensive
- 11:19Speaker 2: line struggled to hold the point of attack and really
- 11:21Speaker 2: set the line of scrimmage. They were much better in
- 11:23Speaker 2: the second half of the year, and I thought we
- 11:26Speaker 2: saw and with the linebackers growing at the end of
- 11:29Speaker 2: the rookie season, but it happened together for a reason.
- 11:33Speaker 1: We're visiting with Joe Goodbarry. You can follow him on
- 11:36Speaker 1: x at Joe Goodberry. Your last appearance on this podcast
- 11:40Speaker 1: was on January twenty nine. We looked ahead to free agency.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I asked what specific players should they pursue, and the
- 11:49Speaker 1: first name you mentioned was Brian Cook. So feel free
- 11:52Speaker 1: to patch yourself on the back. Why were you and
- 11:56Speaker 1: why are you so high on the former University of
- 11:59Speaker 1: Cincinnati safety.
- 12:01Speaker 2: He may represent the biggest upgrade of anyone signed or
- 12:05Speaker 2: acquired him free agency. And that's not just on the Bengals,
- 12:08Speaker 2: I think in the league because again, now disrespect to
- 12:12Speaker 2: the former players when we talk about DJ Reader and
- 12:14Speaker 2: how much of an upgrade it is to Dexter Lawrence,
- 12:17Speaker 2: this is different. Geno Stone was a liability in a
- 12:19Speaker 2: lot of ways. The safety room was an issue we've
- 12:22Speaker 2: been talking about safety for a couple of years. We
- 12:24Speaker 2: can't hide that, right when you just go from one
- 12:27Speaker 2: of the most mistackles in the league in Stone to
- 12:29Speaker 2: a guy who's become an incredibly secure tackler in Brian Cook,
- 12:33Speaker 2: especially the last two years, one of the best tacklers
- 12:36Speaker 2: at safety when you put on the film. He's got
- 12:38Speaker 2: good bulk to him, good size, he can hit with that,
- 12:41Speaker 2: he tackles with power. Very smart player. He played a
- 12:44Speaker 2: ton of free safety as well for the Chiefs, which
- 12:47Speaker 2: if you're looking for a complete one for one there
- 12:49Speaker 2: Genostone being the primary free safety in Bengals defense. You
- 12:52Speaker 2: add in Brian Cook and you're not going to have
- 12:54Speaker 2: the mental lapses as often, You're not gonna have the
- 12:57Speaker 2: effort questions, you're not gonna have the mistackle. I mean
- 13:00Speaker 2: just right there. If he adds the stability, adds to
- 13:03Speaker 2: the communication of that back half, it's such a big upgrade.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And he's twenty seven years old to start this season.
- 13:11Speaker 2: He got better every single year. That's something I typically
- 13:13Speaker 2: look forw when I'm watching taper trying to look at
- 13:15Speaker 2: e whether it's a draft prospect or somebody that's coming
- 13:17Speaker 2: up in free agency. Is did this guy continue to
- 13:20Speaker 2: get better, and if they do, it's a good sign
- 13:22Speaker 2: that they are putting in the work. Coaches see it
- 13:25Speaker 2: also in practice or in the film room or whatever's happening,
- 13:28Speaker 2: and they're giving them more and more responsibility and believing
- 13:31Speaker 2: that they can step up, and when they do, they
- 13:32Speaker 2: answer the call. And that's been Brian Cook. You can
- 13:34Speaker 2: say he's been better every single season and he's just
- 13:37Speaker 2: now getting to where he probably is going to spend
- 13:39Speaker 2: the peak of his career.
- 13:41Speaker 1: We also discussed the importance of bringing Dalton Reisner back
- 13:45Speaker 1: on the offensive line. I think it's the best offensive
- 13:48Speaker 1: line the Bengals have had in the Borough Era. But
- 13:51Speaker 1: is it good?
- 13:53Speaker 2: That is the question, isn't it. Yeah, it's funny because
- 13:55Speaker 2: I just had this question Mike Clay. I think of
- 13:58Speaker 2: ESPN does rankings for every position group around the league.
- 14:02Speaker 2: He did the offensive line, and I think he had
- 14:04Speaker 2: the Bengals thirty first, and it's shocking because I think
- 14:08Speaker 2: as in Cincinnati or his Bengals fans were looking at
- 14:10Speaker 2: it like this is the best offensive line. I think
- 14:12Speaker 2: objectively we would all say this is the best of
- 14:14Speaker 2: the Borough era. Plus you're bringing all five starters back.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I talked to people that are not Bengals fans, you know,
- 14:20Speaker 2: outside of doing this, and they'll say, man, did they
- 14:23Speaker 2: add any offensive line? And I'm like, not really. They
- 14:25Speaker 2: added a couple of draft picks, you know, rookies that
- 14:27Speaker 2: probably won't play if everything goes right this year, and
- 14:30Speaker 2: they're shocked by it. And I think the perception is
- 14:33Speaker 2: not what everyone feels inside that building, that this offensive
- 14:37Speaker 2: line got so good last year off their first three
- 14:40Speaker 2: weeks or so, I think I said when I was
- 14:41Speaker 2: with you last time, after that Vikings game, that was
- 14:44Speaker 2: the worst run blocking I've ever seen. Like that game,
- 14:47Speaker 2: I was like, this, maybe Scott Peters isn't the guy.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Maybe maybe they made a mistake. Maybe they should blow
- 14:52Speaker 2: this thing up and start again. And then towards the
- 14:54Speaker 2: end of the year, I was complete point eighty. This
- 14:58Speaker 2: offensive line was blocking great. The run scheme looked fantastic.
- 15:01Speaker 2: They were getting such good production. The run game efficiency
- 15:05Speaker 2: was near the top of the league, ended up top
- 15:07Speaker 2: five and in success rate and EPA per run, which
- 15:11Speaker 2: I wouldn't have predicted that after the first month. And
- 15:14Speaker 2: you look at Dalton Reisner, he had his best run
- 15:17Speaker 2: blocking season of his career. Last year he fit with
- 15:20Speaker 2: Scott Peters for whatever it is, that's a good fit
- 15:23Speaker 2: and that was his knock. The reason why I think
- 15:25Speaker 2: a lot of teams weren't interested in Riisner and still weren't.
- 15:27Speaker 2: He didn't get a lot of money from the Bengals either,
- 15:30Speaker 2: so there must not have been a lot of interest
- 15:31Speaker 2: out there. Is because of his run blocking. He was
- 15:33Speaker 2: a very good run blocker for the Bengals. Seemed to
- 15:35Speaker 2: fit in personality wise, character wise. I think they're good
- 15:39Speaker 2: on all five spots right now for at least going
- 15:41Speaker 2: And honestly, you could say this about the entire roster.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Is there a starting spot that's up in camp or
- 15:45Speaker 2: are we gonna go on camp? Like I think we
- 15:47Speaker 2: know who the twenty two starters are on each side
- 15:49Speaker 2: of the ball, maybe Jaylen Davis, maybe the slot positions up.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Maybe they'll figure that out and piece it together. But overall,
- 15:55Speaker 2: that's you wouldn't say it's a competition between like a
- 15:58Speaker 2: second round pick and a free or anything like that.
- 16:00Speaker 2: The line is set and they added to the depth.
- 16:03Speaker 2: You should feel good about it. And I just hope
- 16:06Speaker 2: they're healthy and stay healthy because it could be a
- 16:08Speaker 2: really good unit.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Reisner did not join the team until late August last year.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Noah Fant arrived after the start of training caps, so
- 16:16Speaker 1: there will likely be additions between now and the season opener.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Is there anybody out there, whether it is a current
- 16:23Speaker 1: free agent or a rumored cap casualty that you are
- 16:27Speaker 1: keeping an eye on.
- 16:29Speaker 2: We have said a lot about linebacker since last year
- 16:33Speaker 2: and heading into free agency, we talked about linebacker and
- 16:36Speaker 2: are they going to go get one? I believe they
- 16:38Speaker 2: did target a few guys and didn't end up hauling
- 16:40Speaker 2: them in and didn't get one in the draft either.
- 16:43Speaker 2: It was kind of a weird run of the off
- 16:46Speaker 2: season here as everyone talked about it and they just
- 16:49Speaker 2: on the surface ignored it. But I know deeper they
- 16:51Speaker 2: were looking at that position. So well, they circle back, now,
- 16:55Speaker 2: do they want to see how Brett Carter and Demetrius
- 16:57Speaker 2: Knight respond in OTA's Are they talking about them out
- 17:00Speaker 2: the evaluation of like, you know, those guys seems too
- 17:02Speaker 2: mentally have picked it up. They're moving at a different
- 17:04Speaker 2: pace now. Then maybe you don't go sign a guy,
- 17:07Speaker 2: but you could go out there and get a Bobby
- 17:09Speaker 2: Wagner who has tons of experience and still playing at
- 17:11Speaker 2: a decent level. He can't move laterally as well anymore,
- 17:14Speaker 2: but he can still come downhill, can still hit. Played
- 17:17Speaker 2: a lot of sam linebacker last year for the Commanders,
- 17:19Speaker 2: which if the Bengals want to do that, and they
- 17:21Speaker 2: did it with Demetrius Knight, I think they're getting away
- 17:23Speaker 2: from it as one of the reasons why cash Is
- 17:25Speaker 2: how was a priority pick for them. But if they
- 17:27Speaker 2: did want to do it out of a four to
- 17:28Speaker 2: three defense, Bobby Wagner did it a lot last year.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Could they could see that as a fit could usher
- 17:33Speaker 2: and help bring along these young guys and maybe push
- 17:36Speaker 2: them to another level. I think Shaq Thompson also is
- 17:39Speaker 2: with the Bills last year, former first round pick. I
- 17:41Speaker 2: believe in Washington with the Panthers, more of a safety
- 17:45Speaker 2: linebacker hybrid type coming out, very good athlete that has
- 17:48Speaker 2: aged really well for him. He can still move very
- 17:51Speaker 2: well in space. He had a really good game against
- 17:54Speaker 2: the Bengals. If you remember in the snow shack, Thompson
- 17:55Speaker 2: was everywhere. He's still out there. I'd be interested. He's
- 17:57Speaker 2: more of the value guy. I think Wagner is still
- 18:00Speaker 2: the command six million plus because of how long he's
- 18:02Speaker 2: played in the accolades and then for a potential cut
- 18:05Speaker 2: trade option. That're kind of in the same list if
- 18:08Speaker 2: you look on the internet right now, I'm still looking
- 18:10Speaker 2: at running back and the depth there. Chase Brown's in
- 18:13Speaker 2: the final year of his deal. They did not draft
- 18:16Speaker 2: a guy typically that's something they would do a year
- 18:18Speaker 2: ahead of time at that position. They've always valued running back.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Som JP Ryan is the primary backup. We like sma
- 18:24Speaker 2: JP Ryan, but again, at what point do you need
- 18:27Speaker 2: to start to look at his future and getting someone
- 18:29Speaker 2: behind him. We didn't get to see enough of TODJ.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Brooks last year. I think he would have been drafted
- 18:33Speaker 2: much higher in this year's running back class that was
- 18:35Speaker 2: really poor Historically poor. Brooks could have been a fourth
- 18:38Speaker 2: or fifth round pick, maybe a little bit higher, but
- 18:40Speaker 2: we didn't get to see a lot as a rookie.
- 18:42Speaker 2: And if someone comes up, I've got Roshawn Johnson here.
- 18:44Speaker 2: I think we've was a former fourth round pick out
- 18:46Speaker 2: of Texas with the Bears right now, and they've done
- 18:48Speaker 2: a lot at running back the last couple of years.
- 18:50Speaker 2: He's kind of been relegated to some third down stuff
- 18:53Speaker 2: and special teams that sounds like an ideal number three
- 18:56Speaker 2: or four running back. If he's cut, I think he
- 18:59Speaker 2: could come in and add a bigger body to the room.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Even though Brooks and p Ryder there, I'm thinking, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 2: to if he could surpass them down the line. I'm
- 19:07Speaker 2: still a big fan of Roshan Johnson and I would
- 19:09Speaker 2: be interested in him.
- 19:10Speaker 1: We are visiting with Joe Goodbarry, the host of Bengals
- 19:13Speaker 1: on the Brain on YouTube. It is presented by First
- 19:16Speaker 1: Star Logistics. If you love the Bengals, it is must watch.
- 19:20Speaker 1: You have done extensive tape breakdowns on that channel. Of
- 19:23Speaker 1: all seven Bengals draft picks this year, let's start with
- 19:27Speaker 1: Cassius Howell, the SEC defensive player of the year, the
- 19:31Speaker 1: forty first overall pick. He had eleven and a half
- 19:33Speaker 1: sacks for Texas A and M last year. He's got
- 19:36Speaker 1: great speed, he's got great explosiveness, but he's got really
- 19:40Speaker 1: short arms. We talked about this a lot where ruben
- 19:43Speaker 1: Bain was concerned going into the draft and Cassius Howell's
- 19:46Speaker 1: arms are even a little bit shorter than ruben Bain's.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Did you like him as the forty first overall pick?
- 19:53Speaker 1: And how concerned are you about that lack of length?
- 19:56Speaker 2: I really liked him with that pick as it was
- 19:58Speaker 2: coming around. It's funny because I we always do this.
- 20:01Speaker 2: We have guys we like in January and February, and
- 20:04Speaker 2: then as it gets closer, I think free agency effects this.
- 20:07Speaker 2: So next year, I'm gonna try and remember this, this
- 20:09Speaker 2: point I'm gonna make here. As free agency comes and goes,
- 20:12Speaker 2: you start to go, well, they still need a linebacker,
- 20:14Speaker 2: they still need a tight on, whatever the position may be,
- 20:17Speaker 2: and you kind of forget about the guys you liked
- 20:19Speaker 2: that were in the mix in January and February, that
- 20:21Speaker 2: you would have said, hey, given me a clean slate,
- 20:23Speaker 2: I'll take Cash's howl if he's available at the spot.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And then it comes around and he's available and they
- 20:28Speaker 2: pick him, you go, oh, yeah, I remember I really
- 20:30Speaker 2: liked Cashs howl in January thirtieth or whatever. But you're
- 20:33Speaker 2: talking about a different pass rusher to add to their buffet.
- 20:36Speaker 2: They've got a lot of different guys now on this
- 20:38Speaker 2: defensive line. It's really exciting. Will they be good enough?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Same question for the old line, definitely better. Will it
- 20:43Speaker 2: be good enough to be a championship caliber defense? We'll
- 20:45Speaker 2: we'll find out. But what they do have is a
- 20:48Speaker 2: whole mix of different kinds of rushers, and this gives
- 20:51Speaker 2: them that last one maybe the cherry on the top here,
- 20:54Speaker 2: because he is your explosive, agile rusher that can bend
- 20:59Speaker 2: and cut, change direction, and they really can't do that
- 21:03Speaker 2: with Miles Murphy. Schmar Stewart, you know, a freak athlete,
- 21:05Speaker 2: didn't do his agility drills because I think Schmar struggles
- 21:08Speaker 2: with that part of his athleticism. Although I agree with
- 21:11Speaker 2: your video the other day, did look quicker and his
- 21:14Speaker 2: moves in the OTAs. I would have said the same
- 21:16Speaker 2: thing to him, like you look just a touch quicker it.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I'd be working on it. But still don't think that's
- 21:20Speaker 2: his area of strength. That he's more of a linear,
- 21:22Speaker 2: explosive power athlete. And then even boy, my fey really
- 21:25Speaker 2: good get off. Same with Miles Murphy. He can't turn
- 21:29Speaker 2: the corner as well as cash as hell, and that
- 21:31Speaker 2: many can. Howell can really stick his foot in the ground,
- 21:33Speaker 2: can bend. When I talk about Ben talking about ankle
- 21:36Speaker 2: flexion and the degree of where you can plant that
- 21:39Speaker 2: foot in the ground and still be leaned over, kind
- 21:41Speaker 2: of nascarth that thing around the corner, get that full
- 21:44Speaker 2: g force around the apex, trying to pull you to
- 21:46Speaker 2: the ground, and he's able to withstand that and get down.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And that knee almost scrapes the turf as he cuts
- 21:52Speaker 2: and bends around these linemen. And he so often doesn't
- 21:55Speaker 2: even shoot a move. He is almost giving you a
- 21:58Speaker 2: jab step and then dipping around as the linemen are
- 22:00Speaker 2: shooting their hands. Very reminiscent of von Miller has said
- 22:04Speaker 2: this too in podcasts, that he's gotten older who is
- 22:06Speaker 2: a free agent. I wonder if he could help cash
- 22:08Speaker 2: this out a little bit. But he has said that
- 22:10Speaker 2: it wasn't so much he had to go to move.
- 22:12Speaker 2: It was that he had a great understanding of when
- 22:14Speaker 2: linemen were gonna punch and like the timing of okay one,
- 22:17Speaker 2: two three, I need to put my hands out there
- 22:20Speaker 2: or else I'm gonna let this guy get in my chest.
- 22:22Speaker 2: And he said he'd almost time these guys on film
- 22:25Speaker 2: to know when they shoot their hands, I'm gonna dip
- 22:27Speaker 2: under it and get under and turn the corner. And
- 22:29Speaker 2: Howell seems like he has mastered that as well. I
- 22:31Speaker 2: don't know if he is on the same film study level,
- 22:33Speaker 2: or if he knows it but he does it on
- 22:35Speaker 2: film and it gives you something different. I will say
- 22:37Speaker 2: that last part about the arm length, it is a factor,
- 22:40Speaker 2: and his wingspan is another part. Ruben Bain at three
- 22:42Speaker 2: inches longer and wingspan, it can affect him. He can
- 22:45Speaker 2: get hung up on guys and he's not the biggest.
- 22:47Speaker 2: He's six two and a half two fifty three, so
- 22:50Speaker 2: that could be length, that could be overall bulk size
- 22:52Speaker 2: strength that gets him hung up on lineman too much.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I will say the Bengals when they measured him personally
- 22:58Speaker 2: had him at thirty one inches a little bit more
- 23:00Speaker 2: than historically.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Well, I like that term buffay to describe the Bengals
- 23:05Speaker 1: defensive line now and the various options they have going
- 23:08Speaker 1: after the quarterback. Do you think there's something to be
- 23:10Speaker 1: said for the variety and how it affects an opposing tackle.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Does it make it more difficult if you are setting
- 23:19Speaker 1: up to block Miles Murphy or Shamar Stewart on one
- 23:22Speaker 1: set of downs and then the next set of downs
- 23:24Speaker 1: it's a smaller, speedier guy like cash as Howell.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I think so. I've had these conversations with Willie Anderson Bengals,
- 23:30Speaker 2: great Ring of honor guy, and how it would affect
- 23:33Speaker 2: him even weak to week, going from like Aaron Smith
- 23:36Speaker 2: a big defensive end with the Steelers, then the next
- 23:38Speaker 2: week it's Robert Mathis of the Colts, right, and just oh,
- 23:41Speaker 2: I was doing this before I had more time. When
- 23:43Speaker 2: I you know, now I need to make sure I
- 23:45Speaker 2: get off the snap as fast as possible, almost cheated
- 23:48Speaker 2: as much as I can, and just a different set
- 23:51Speaker 2: of moves. And now you want to do that in
- 23:52Speaker 2: a game with That's why you want waves. And Al
- 23:55Speaker 2: Golden said this, and the Seahawks had it last year.
- 23:58Speaker 2: They didn't have one dominant player. While they have great
- 24:00Speaker 2: players on the D line, they sent eight guys at you,
- 24:03Speaker 2: and so you're getting their best. You're getting them while
- 24:05Speaker 2: they're fresh number one, which I think is helpful for
- 24:07Speaker 2: any pass rusher, if anyone's ever played defensive line. You
- 24:10Speaker 2: got three snaps in and then the fourth one you're like, man,
- 24:12Speaker 2: I'm gonna try here, I'm gonna do my best, but
- 24:14Speaker 2: you know you're starting to wear out a little bit.
- 24:17Speaker 2: And when you can, you rotate quickly that way and
- 24:20Speaker 2: sending waves and you believe your backup is also capable
- 24:22Speaker 2: and can do the things that maybe you can't do.
- 24:25Speaker 2: It's exciting you're willing to come off the field and
- 24:26Speaker 2: let that guy do his job too. And I think
- 24:28Speaker 2: it affects linemen and I think it gives him more
- 24:30Speaker 2: to work for, more to prepare for, and just as
- 24:33Speaker 2: many counter punches as you can give them. The harder
- 24:37Speaker 2: it is for offensive lineman the block.
- 24:39Speaker 1: In the third round, the Bengals took a gigantic cornerback
- 24:42Speaker 1: into Carrio Davis. He is the tallest, longest cornerback I've
- 24:45Speaker 1: ever seen in a Bengals uniform, and I've been doing
- 24:47Speaker 1: the games on the radio for fifteen years. He's got
- 24:50Speaker 1: really good speed, but at that size, can he flip
- 24:54Speaker 1: his hips and move the way that a good NFL
- 24:56Speaker 1: cornerback needs to be able to move?
- 24:59Speaker 2: That is the question. That is the age old question. Right,
- 25:02Speaker 2: Corners need to be able to mirror, They need to
- 25:04Speaker 2: be able to read and react, click and close, cut,
- 25:10Speaker 2: change direction, flip those hips. They need to look fluid.
- 25:12Speaker 2: It's often not just receivers that can't catch that go
- 25:15Speaker 2: to corner. It's the guys that are the most probably poundful,
- 25:18Speaker 2: pound agile, and fluid players on the entire team, And yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I would say to Carrio struggles. Of course he does.
- 25:25Speaker 2: He's six'. Four it's, honestly you know the term uncanny
- 25:28Speaker 2: valley where you see something that maybe a CGI's supposed
- 25:31Speaker 2: to look like a real human face and you're, like
- 25:33Speaker 2: it doesn't look right to. Me something in my monkey
- 25:35Speaker 2: brain is throwing me. Off when you Watch, tacario you're,
- 25:38Speaker 2: like something's. Weird same With Eric gentry at linebacker two
- 25:41Speaker 2: very weird body, shape beats to be nearly six foot
- 25:43Speaker 2: six at linebacker and be. That then, well when you
- 25:45Speaker 2: see a move you would almost be like, that that
- 25:48Speaker 2: can't be a. Corner why is he? There what is?
- 25:50Speaker 2: Happening he looks superimposed on the field and he has
- 25:54Speaker 2: that but in a powerful way. Too that could be
- 25:57Speaker 2: a strength BECAUSE i think you see it on tape
- 26:00Speaker 2: where he's leaning into receivers at the catch point or
- 26:03Speaker 2: down the. Field he's going up for the ball and
- 26:05Speaker 2: the receivers are struggling to get around, him through him
- 26:08Speaker 2: or over, him and you can almost see the confusion
- 26:11Speaker 2: and how they have to play that like that's. WEIRD
- 26:13Speaker 2: i don't normally have to fight a corner to get
- 26:15Speaker 2: up and catch his ball by his, point but this
- 26:18Speaker 2: big body is leaning on, me pushing on, me getting
- 26:21Speaker 2: his arm on. Me it's a much different battle at that.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Point but To, caio yes to. Me that is always
- 26:27Speaker 2: going to be the. Question and TODAY'S nfl is shifting
- 26:30Speaker 2: a lot the. Boundary guys at receiver and corner are
- 26:34Speaker 2: being focused on less and the game is getting pushed
- 26:37Speaker 2: into the hashes and slot receivers and move tight ends
- 26:41Speaker 2: and big safety hybrid slot guys Like nickname And. Worry
- 26:45Speaker 2: everyone wants to get everything. Inside you can get the
- 26:47Speaker 2: ball out, quick you can get some yack with. It
- 26:49Speaker 2: you can move to Mar chase round and get them
- 26:50Speaker 2: one hundred and eighty targets right because a lot of
- 26:53Speaker 2: it happens in the middle of the, field so on the.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Boundary will it be as big of an issue For
- 26:58Speaker 2: Carrio davis when he's dealing With probb the other guys
- 27:00Speaker 2: that are big linear. Players could he Cover Te? Higgins?
- 27:03Speaker 2: Probably could he Cover Colby young And Andreo? Smash? Yeah.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Probably if you get a guy that's super agile on the,
- 27:08Speaker 2: outside he's that guy's probably of The Jamar chase like
- 27:12Speaker 2: or he's gonna get kicked inside into the slot more
- 27:14Speaker 2: often as, well where he can win in, there so
- 27:15Speaker 2: it may not affect him as.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Much it's really funny hearing you describe that visual Of
- 27:22Speaker 1: Tacario davis that doesn't quite compute in your, brain BECAUSE
- 27:25Speaker 1: i had the same reaction WHEN i watched your video
- 27:28Speaker 1: analysis of the wide Receiver Coleby. Young you showed footage
- 27:33Speaker 1: of him playing For georgia Against. Alabama you put on the.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Tape the very first thing we see is him at
- 27:39Speaker 1: the bottom of the screen matched up against An alabama.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Corner you Circle Coleby, young AND i almost broke out
- 27:46Speaker 1: laughing because he looks twice the size of the corner
- 27:51Speaker 1: that was covering. Him it looked like a video, effect
- 27:55Speaker 1: so he looked more Like Victor wembinyama than T higgins
- 28:00Speaker 1: in that. Clip did you have a similar reaction when
- 28:02Speaker 1: you first put him on.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Tape, Yeah he's nearly six' five and two sixteen long
- 28:08Speaker 2: arms and his stride to is. Very long his arms
- 28:10Speaker 2: are very long when. HE moves i, thought That and
- 28:13Speaker 2: i've fielded question since, the draft like do you think
- 28:15Speaker 2: this guy could play? Tight end he kind of reminds
- 28:17Speaker 2: me of audentate who people always ask should move the. Tight,
- 28:19Speaker 2: end hey sometimes you want these guys to just be
- 28:21Speaker 2: what they are at receiver and be big body guys
- 28:24Speaker 2: that can win down the field if they have good,
- 28:26Speaker 2: ball skills could win at the. CATCH point I think
- 28:28Speaker 2: burrow likes the big receiver, as well someone that he
- 28:31Speaker 2: can throw the back. Shoulder to there are. FLASHES too
- 28:35Speaker 2: I Thought kobe young got much better this. Past year
- 28:36Speaker 2: in that, FILM review i did the previous year AND
- 28:39Speaker 2: then i did the last year to see what type
- 28:41Speaker 2: of progress he can make Both versus alabama in the
- 28:45Speaker 2: same corner two, each time and he looked. Much quicker
- 28:48Speaker 2: his routes, looked better his release. LOOKED better i think
- 28:50Speaker 2: that's where when you're, that big sometimes your release can
- 28:52Speaker 2: be effective while you're a big body and you can
- 28:54Speaker 2: be strung and get that corner out of their, agility,
- 28:57Speaker 2: matters right and knocking those hands away and getting around the.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Guy MATTERS and i think he struggled there the, first
- 29:02Speaker 2: year much better in year Two. At GEORGIA and i
- 29:06Speaker 2: do believe he is more OF The t higgins like
- 29:08Speaker 2: receiver that if you have To if higgins misses two or,
- 29:11Speaker 2: three games which has happened pretty much, every year, you
- 29:13Speaker 2: know just, Being honest yoshi really hasn't stepped into. THAT
- 29:16Speaker 2: role i think they still leave him AT the z
- 29:18Speaker 2: and sometimes. THE slot I Think kobe young would be
- 29:21Speaker 2: the guy that would fit what they run more with
- 29:23Speaker 2: t and putting him. Into exposition, SO yeah i think
- 29:26Speaker 2: that's the big body type of guy they're.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Looking For the bengals took two, offensive Linemen Center connor
- 29:32Speaker 1: lou in the fourth round and a more versatile, Offensive
- 29:34Speaker 1: Lineman brian parker in. The sixth do you have?
- 29:37Speaker 2: A preference, i DO and i feel bad with having
- 29:41Speaker 2: a PREFERENCE because i really like.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Both.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Guys especially ONE thing i usually look for is guys
- 29:45Speaker 2: that started young and are still very young. Coming Out
- 29:48Speaker 2: And connor lou is twenty years old, right now and
- 29:51Speaker 2: he started Early. At auburn looked. REALLY good i mean
- 29:54Speaker 2: he was his trajectory. WAS strong i believe he was
- 29:57Speaker 2: twenty first Over On DANE brugler's i guess. Big board
- 30:01Speaker 2: so going into this, last year could have had a
- 30:03Speaker 2: first round pick at least COULD have i mean centers
- 30:04Speaker 2: maybe don't always go in the. First round could have
- 30:06Speaker 2: been a top forty to. Fifty pick then he. Got
- 30:08Speaker 2: hurt he did it also in those first handful of
- 30:10Speaker 2: games before he. Got hurt didn't really take that next.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Step either he could have in the back half of.
- 30:14Speaker 2: The year so, You know i'm not gonna write that,
- 30:16Speaker 2: off completely but he got hurt and that will affect
- 30:18Speaker 2: your draft stock to get him where they did in
- 30:20Speaker 2: the fourth after a. TRADE down i really liked the
- 30:23Speaker 2: chances of lou potentially being the future of, the CENTER
- 30:27Speaker 2: but i have TO say i was Enamored With brian
- 30:30Speaker 2: parker completely Out. Of dukee this guy who played right
- 30:33Speaker 2: tackle that many teams view him as a guard. OR center.
- 30:37Speaker 2: I was i really struggled with the post draft analysis
- 30:41Speaker 2: is that they drafted. Two centers parker can do so
- 30:43Speaker 2: much more. Than that there's no reason why he couldn't
- 30:45Speaker 2: be a swing tackle. As well we, see guys he's
- 30:48Speaker 2: Going to. William's size he could play tackle if you.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Need it it's not ideal for most tackles to be,
- 30:53Speaker 2: that size but he can do it and did do it.
- 30:55Speaker 2: In college SO when I, watched, parker Though like, louur
- 31:00Speaker 2: wrestler great Mix With, scott PETERS but i thought he
- 31:04Speaker 2: had a great understanding of run blocking run, blocking scheme
- 31:08Speaker 2: how to knock guys off in a double team and
- 31:10Speaker 2: climb up and get to. A linebacker really smooth and.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Athletic player so it was, Counter LOU but i Actually
- 31:16Speaker 2: think parker is a little, bit more especially once he's
- 31:18Speaker 2: going to get. Kicked inside for the lesser athletes typically align. To.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Me parker he was twenty eighth overall in our. Draft
- 31:25Speaker 2: spreadsheet his grade was really. Really high the last time
- 31:28Speaker 2: we had a guy go that late sixth round that
- 31:30Speaker 2: had a first round Score Was trey smith that went to.
- 31:34Speaker 2: The chief so, like That when I'M saying i Really Like,
- 31:36Speaker 2: BRIAN parker i really, really did and our process did.
- 31:39Speaker 2: AS well i don't want to set the bar, too
- 31:41Speaker 2: high but on tape he was, extremely clean very good
- 31:45Speaker 2: in true pass, set data which is one of the
- 31:47Speaker 2: STRONGEST correlation pff has up for offensive linemen going from
- 31:50Speaker 2: COLLEGE to nfl that tends to carry over. The most
- 31:53Speaker 2: and he was very good in true. Pass sets me
- 31:55Speaker 2: to take, out screens take out, quick passes take, out
- 31:57Speaker 2: blitzes just you one on one in past situations he
- 32:01Speaker 2: was shut down and kick. Him inside he's probably gonna
- 32:03Speaker 2: be even better in the.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Seventh Round the bengals had. Two picks the First was
- 32:08Speaker 1: texas Tight End, jack andrees who you are calling the
- 32:12Speaker 1: best tight end Prospect the bengals have Drafted Since. Tyler
- 32:17Speaker 1: eiffert why that's?
- 32:19Speaker 2: That, crazy actually it's really more reflection of the tight
- 32:22Speaker 2: ends they, have drafted whether you go back To Like,
- 32:24Speaker 2: tyler Croft cjo ozama wasn't a, great prospect so he
- 32:28Speaker 2: ended up being a. Good PLAYER but i want, to say,
- 32:29Speaker 2: you know he didn't even a tight end Coach. At
- 32:31Speaker 2: auburn remember he said. He was the tight ends were
- 32:33Speaker 2: coached by the running back. Coach there he had a
- 32:36Speaker 2: long way to go in a lot. Of things he
- 32:38Speaker 2: did develop and become a, Good Player so I'M when
- 32:40Speaker 2: i say he's the best prospect we're talking about coming
- 32:42Speaker 2: out of. The Draft drew sample WAS supposed i had
- 32:45Speaker 2: a mock To the bengals in the. Sixth round they
- 32:46Speaker 2: took him in, round two a famous reach in. Their history,
- 32:49Speaker 2: still playing still a, Quality Player so i'm just really
- 32:52Speaker 2: talking about as. A Prospect eric all had a ton.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Of injuries. Tenner McLachlin we ended up Seeing the giants
- 32:58Speaker 2: draft board. That year they had a red flag him
- 33:00Speaker 2: for injury, as well so they drafted two guys there.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Of the head.
- 33:02Speaker 2: INJURY history i think injuries, to me when you go
- 33:05Speaker 2: back and watch, his caltape this is a walk on
- 33:07Speaker 2: chip on. His shoulder he's. Already angry he went this lady.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Draft right this guy was born, THIS way. I think
- 33:12Speaker 2: but you watch Him With, Fernando mendoza he's gonna go
- 33:15Speaker 2: with three first. Overall Quarterbacks, fernando mendoza Arch Manning. Joe
- 33:18Speaker 2: burrow this guy's living, the dream but as a walk
- 33:20Speaker 2: on his quickly became in year two the go to
- 33:24Speaker 2: receiver in that Offense. With mendoza really. Good understanding you,
- 33:28Speaker 2: could see especially this happens when You Watch Joe Burrow.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Jamar chase, you're, like man these guys are on the
- 33:32Speaker 2: same wavelength and usually see it versus his own defenses
- 33:35Speaker 2: or when someone's gonna show a blitz and back out
- 33:37Speaker 2: and do. Something else and It was mendoza to injuries right,
- 33:40Speaker 2: every time like he knew where, to sit, hang out
- 33:42Speaker 2: but be a void in that zone every time and just, boom,
- 33:44Speaker 2: boom boom, boom Boom and mendoza would lead him into
- 33:47Speaker 2: the way he should run after. The catch he had
- 33:49Speaker 2: really good run after the. Catch numbers and then he
- 33:51Speaker 2: Goes To ohio state and he was gonna be used
- 33:54Speaker 2: more as. A blocker he's gonna develop. That part he's
- 33:56Speaker 2: gonna get a little bit bigger. AND stronger i think
- 33:58Speaker 2: he had an ankle injury early in that season and.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Affect him didn't look as quick as. A receiver i
- 34:03Speaker 2: still think it's. In there it has to be still a.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Young man he's not like this is an. Old prospect
- 34:08Speaker 2: he ran, really fast which is a. Good number forty
- 34:10Speaker 2: time is really predictive for tight end future success as.
- 34:13Speaker 2: A RECEIVER but i thought he did block much Better
- 34:16Speaker 2: At ohio state and really developed. Quickly there he needs
- 34:19Speaker 2: to get a little. Bit Stronger but i'm saying just as,
- 34:21Speaker 2: a prospect he had a lot of production as. A
- 34:23Speaker 2: receiver he went to two, different schools played, really well
- 34:26Speaker 2: and is a decent blocker, Right now he's Probably if
- 34:31Speaker 2: i'm looking, at It Like, Mikeaseaki Tanner hudson aer more
- 34:33Speaker 2: of the move type, slot guys gadget up style of.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Tight ends your Why Is Drew Sample Probably cam grandy
- 34:41Speaker 2: is the. Next one he's more of a practice. Squad
- 34:42Speaker 2: guy and then you have to move. Type Blockers and
- 34:45Speaker 2: i'm really excited to see these Two eric all coming
- 34:47Speaker 2: back this year and see if he can help the
- 34:48Speaker 2: team and then regain. His FORM and I Think jack
- 34:51Speaker 2: andrews is the. Other one when you Watch The ohio,
- 34:53Speaker 2: state film his blocks and what they asked him to
- 34:56Speaker 2: do very reminiscent of What the bengals Did with all
- 34:59Speaker 2: in that handful of games when he had such. An
- 35:01Speaker 2: IMPACT so i think they're competing for that playing time.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Right Away and i'm high. ON juries i hate to
- 35:06Speaker 2: be high in these day three guys are these seventh
- 35:07Speaker 2: rounders because they don't get. The opportunities but this was
- 35:10Speaker 2: a home, run seventh sixth and.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Seventh round and one, quick correction You mean texas as
- 35:15Speaker 1: opposed to a Hut.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Of, state sorry.
- 35:17Speaker 1: No problem and Then the bengals final draft Pick was
- 35:21Speaker 1: navy Defensive Tackle, landon robinson now a graduate Of The.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Naval Academy, Elite speed, Elite quickness. Elite strength he bench
- 35:31Speaker 1: is nearly five, hundred pounds but he's five. To eleven
- 35:34Speaker 1: he weighed less than three hundred pounds at. The combine
- 35:37Speaker 1: some Similarities To. Geno atkins there are you Intrigued By. Landon.
- 35:42Speaker 2: ROBINSON definitely i don't know how you can't be. Number
- 35:46Speaker 2: one you're getting a guy who CHARACTER wise i mean from,
- 35:49Speaker 2: the area who grew Up a, bengals fan but character
- 35:51Speaker 2: wise flying Colors the, navy, program right he should be.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Workout warrior he's. Tested great like, you said he can
- 35:58Speaker 2: bench everything. In him he is very strong and explosive,
- 36:02Speaker 2: on tape very very explosive and agile. ON tape i
- 36:05Speaker 2: want to be clear, On that like when. You watch
- 36:06Speaker 2: first thing that's going to jump out is his. Lateral
- 36:09Speaker 2: explosiveness they like to slant and STUNT their d line
- 36:11Speaker 2: one way or, the OTHER and i think that could
- 36:13Speaker 2: limit his production and opportunity. At times but because he's
- 36:16Speaker 2: such a, good athlete it worked for him in a lot.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Of Ways the bengals wanted to do this, last YEAR
- 36:20Speaker 2: but i think their stunts were a. Little slow they
- 36:21Speaker 2: had to figure. It out they kind of scrapped it
- 36:23Speaker 2: a little bit in the second half of the year
- 36:24Speaker 2: when the defense turned. It on but if you want
- 36:26Speaker 2: to get a guy in there that can move a
- 36:27Speaker 2: little bit and be more laterally explosive again to use,
- 36:30Speaker 2: That Word landon robinson is. That now he went To The.
- 36:34Speaker 2: SHRINE bowl i thought he looked really, good there flashed
- 36:37Speaker 2: a bunch he wanted TO.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Get.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Tj parker you can see some clips. Of that he
- 36:40Speaker 2: didn't get invited To. The combine and when, that happened
- 36:43Speaker 2: those guys tend to, go six seventh. Or undrafted you
- 36:46Speaker 2: may get fifteen to twenty five guys per year that
- 36:49Speaker 2: Don't get combine invites that. Get drafted so when, THAT
- 36:53Speaker 2: happened i, Was, LIKE okay i know a lot of
- 36:55Speaker 2: mocks to have him fourth round, or so it's probably
- 36:58Speaker 2: not going. To happen we need to reset we think
- 37:00Speaker 2: and our. EXPECTATIONS here i didn't expect he'd be there
- 37:03Speaker 2: at two twenty. Six though that was late so and
- 37:06Speaker 2: For the bengals to, get it it seemed like someone
- 37:08Speaker 2: one of the most Commonly mocked day three guys To.
- 37:10Speaker 2: The bengals, So yes. I'M intrigued i think he's a.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Good prospect i'd love to take a swing on a guy,
- 37:14Speaker 2: like this especially in. Round seven but they have a
- 37:19Speaker 2: deep defensive tackle. ROOM now i mean they went from
- 37:21Speaker 2: going into this offseason like you're gonna have to find
- 37:23Speaker 2: a defensive tackle. Somewhere here it'd be nice to get
- 37:25Speaker 2: some someone with Juice to now we have a loaded defensive. Tackle,
- 37:30Speaker 2: ROOM great i. WANT that i don't want them TO. Cut,
- 37:32Speaker 2: tj slaton, YOU know i don't want them to Even
- 37:34Speaker 2: Cut chris jenkins Or. McKinley jackson i still think there's
- 37:37Speaker 2: some development for both of. Those guys so what you
- 37:39Speaker 2: end up with, is here, here's seven, eight, guys like
- 37:42Speaker 2: we're gonna throw him in there and figure, it out
- 37:44Speaker 2: and maybe you can keep six if you're playing more
- 37:46Speaker 2: odd man fronts with more defensive tackles on, the field
- 37:49Speaker 2: but that would be. Stretching it they're gonna have to
- 37:52Speaker 2: cut and or trade. Somebody Here if robinson shows up,
- 37:55Speaker 2: in PRESEASON and i expect.
- 37:56Speaker 1: He will did any of the Undrafted, Guys, cary.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Yeah THAT'S why I Mentioned eric gentry OUT. Of usc,
- 38:04Speaker 2: you know six foot six but like two hundred and,
- 38:06Speaker 2: twenty pounds probably so, con wet very weird body type,
- 38:10Speaker 2: for linebacker but a. Good player when you, watch him he.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Is athletic he's not afraid to take on blocks at.
- 38:18Speaker 2: That size he does get at times. Washed out guys
- 38:21Speaker 2: can get in there into his chest and you know
- 38:24Speaker 2: move him because he's, so linear but he moves a
- 38:27Speaker 2: round blockers really really well with, his athleticism bends. Really
- 38:30Speaker 2: well they have him blitzing. A ton but they did
- 38:32Speaker 2: do a lot of slot reps with him and put him.
- 38:35Speaker 2: IN coverage i think that's probably where his. Potential is
- 38:37Speaker 2: special team's. Number one they rave about, His character so
- 38:40Speaker 2: could he be a career special teamer that gives you size? And,
- 38:43Speaker 2: Length yes BUT also i was Reminded Of. Emmanuel lamurr,
- 38:47Speaker 2: remember him the big long linebacker For. The bengals did some,
- 38:50Speaker 2: slot stuff did some. Linebacker nickel He AND. George i
- 38:53Speaker 2: loka would cover, tight ends room covering And Bracketing jimmy
- 38:56Speaker 2: graham Versus. THE saints i don't remember what year, that
- 38:58Speaker 2: was but, you know in, that time twenty, fifteen range
- 39:01Speaker 2: AND when I, Watched gentry, i'm like if you could
- 39:04Speaker 2: develop him similarly to make him be a hybrid, tight
- 39:07Speaker 2: end cover guy and special, TEAM right i think he
- 39:09Speaker 2: could have. A role now he's got to make. The
- 39:11Speaker 2: roster they didn't do anything, at linebackers so there's an
- 39:13Speaker 2: opportunity there and. A path that's probably why he Chose
- 39:16Speaker 2: the bengals as a. Free agent, but yeah he was
- 39:18Speaker 2: the guy that first jumped out to me as somebody
- 39:21Speaker 2: that could make this roster and maybe make it for a.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Few Years if i'm. Not Mistaken emmanuel lamur started a
- 39:28Speaker 1: playoff game as a rookie Against. THE colts i think
- 39:31Speaker 1: due to injury he was pressed into service as. A
- 39:33Speaker 1: starter in a lot of people.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Started that game they probably shouldn't. Have been that was a.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Rough One rex burgad was a. Slot, receiver yeah we're
- 39:41Speaker 1: Visiting With joe goodbarry a couple more questions. For you
- 39:43Speaker 1: what's your biggest concern about this team as Of?
- 39:47Speaker 2: Late, MAY yeah i wonder if the defensive line is
- 39:52Speaker 2: good enough as a pass. Rushing unit and while you're
- 39:54Speaker 2: getting the best nose tackle pass rusher in the league and,
- 39:58Speaker 2: that's great it's still less production on a stat sheet
- 40:01Speaker 2: Than What trey hundrickson will. Give you it's still not
- 40:03Speaker 2: going to be eighty five pressures in, fifteen, Sacks right
- 40:06Speaker 2: so who is gonna piece that together and give you
- 40:09Speaker 2: that extra thirty five pressures that you're probably gonna miss
- 40:13Speaker 2: and you're probably gonna miss ten sacks out? Of there
- 40:15Speaker 2: is it going to Be boy in, Mafe right can
- 40:18Speaker 2: he get back to? Previous form he's never really hit
- 40:20Speaker 2: those numbers in terms. Of sex but can he give
- 40:22Speaker 2: you three more than he had? Last year give? You
- 40:24Speaker 2: five can he give you? A six can cash this
- 40:26Speaker 2: howl will provide a little bit more as. A rookie
- 40:28Speaker 2: Can schmer stewart take a step in? Hear Two Can
- 40:31Speaker 2: miles murphy finally hit his peak in? Year four and
- 40:35Speaker 2: then that's how you piece. It together but you're still
- 40:37Speaker 2: talking about a lot of things that need to hit
- 40:39Speaker 2: in order to. Get that and maybe it's just a
- 40:40Speaker 2: difference of having waves of everyone's getting four sacks on.
- 40:44Speaker 2: The ROSTER but i was asked this, omni SAS so
- 40:47Speaker 2: i Think the bengals will have? THIS year, I said
- 40:48Speaker 2: i'll go with thirty nine and and one of the responses.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Was unsurprised you don't think extra lawrence is gonna. ELEVATE everyone,
- 40:55Speaker 2: i said of course. He will but at the, same
- 40:56Speaker 2: time look At. The giants they're at thirty eight sacks forty,
- 40:59Speaker 2: sacks last and They Have, brian burns and They've Got,
- 41:03Speaker 2: keevan thibodeau and they've got a, dual carter and they
- 41:06Speaker 2: those guys can win one. On one those are good high,
- 41:09Speaker 2: end Prospects especially Burns and carter. Last Year, but Ken
- 41:13Speaker 2: the bengals get that. Same thing if they're gonna get
- 41:15Speaker 2: the one, On Ones Ken schamar, Stewart, Went Ken miles,
- 41:17Speaker 2: Murphy Win Kim boy, mafy win and cash us, all
- 41:20Speaker 2: win they will get the opportunity to. Do, It now
- 41:22Speaker 2: i'm excited to see if they can, do It and.
- 41:24Speaker 1: I'll take that a. Step further can those guys win
- 41:27Speaker 1: When the bengals have the lead late in the game
- 41:31Speaker 1: and the defense needs to get, a stop because had
- 41:33Speaker 1: they been able to do that, last year they would
- 41:36Speaker 1: have easily been a. Playoff, Team yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Trey was a closer in a lot, of, ways right
- 41:40Speaker 2: and he was the guy even if he didn't get
- 41:42Speaker 2: home always you could see the way offensive lines blocked
- 41:45Speaker 2: him like they. Get there, it's okay we're they need
- 41:47Speaker 2: a drive light in. A game we are not letting
- 41:50Speaker 2: this guy just. Beat us, and well they treat him
- 41:53Speaker 2: the same way it'll probably be Treated Towards texter lawrence in.
- 41:55Speaker 2: The inside so now it's time for you guys one
- 41:58Speaker 2: on one on the outside to do, your thing.
- 42:00Speaker 1: All Right joe i'm going to bring Up another joe
- 42:03Speaker 1: to wrap. This Up joe burrow recently called this the
- 42:05Speaker 1: most talented roster That the bengals have had since he's
- 42:08Speaker 1: been on. The team he was part of A super
- 42:10Speaker 1: bowl team in twenty. Twenty one the, following Year the
- 42:13Speaker 1: bengals won ten straight games leading up TO The Afc
- 42:16Speaker 1: championship game and. Almost won That Is, joe wright is
- 42:20Speaker 1: this the most talented roster that he has been on
- 42:23Speaker 1: As A. Cincinnati bengal i'm.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Probably going to do a whole episode on, this QUESTION
- 42:27Speaker 2: because i think it requires a lot of looking at.
- 42:29Speaker 2: THOSE rosters i do think twenty twenty two was better than,
- 42:32Speaker 2: twenty one especially if we Consider that burrow was coming
- 42:35Speaker 2: off an injury in, Twenty one jamorrow was a rookie in.
- 42:37Speaker 2: TWENTY one i think they were better in twenty. TWENTY
- 42:40Speaker 2: two i think the defense was better throughout the year.
- 42:41Speaker 2: As well so if we use that as the standard
- 42:44Speaker 2: and go to, this year. It's close i've. GOT score
- 42:48Speaker 2: i keep scores on every veteran Player the, bengals have
- 42:51Speaker 2: AND when i look, at it it's, really close and
- 42:54Speaker 2: there's probably what do you? Value more do you? Value
- 42:58Speaker 2: More The trey andrickson edge rusher that. Can win do
- 43:01Speaker 2: you value more because then They Had, Larry, ogu Joby,
- 43:04Speaker 2: bj hill, YOU Know dj Reed Or sam hubbard like
- 43:06Speaker 2: that's those are. Good starters or do you? Value more
- 43:10Speaker 2: probably a little bit more depth on the defensive line,
- 43:13Speaker 2: this year even though they're not as proven in a
- 43:15Speaker 2: lot of positions and you're bringing new. Guys in we
- 43:17Speaker 2: got to see all of. That gels that was year
- 43:18Speaker 2: two for. Those guys they, Were ready they had the.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Ground running they, looked good Except for ogunjobe was and
- 43:22Speaker 2: that was only twenty, twenty ONE so i want to correct.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Myself there but linebacker being a. Big one two guys
- 43:28Speaker 2: who were just coming, into being, you know extension worthy
- 43:31Speaker 2: Candidates With logan Wilson And jermaine pratt versus will these
- 43:35Speaker 2: guys join them as similar. Type players they. DID it
- 43:38Speaker 2: i Don't Think Logan Wilson jermaine pratt had great rookie,
- 43:41Speaker 2: years either but they looked good at the end of their.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Rookie years carry that into year two and started to
- 43:45Speaker 2: look like capable players and turned into impact players in
- 43:48Speaker 2: crunch Situations That jermaine pratt made so many Plays Can
- 43:52Speaker 2: demetrius knight do that we can swallow some. Bad plays
- 43:56Speaker 2: if you're forcing a fumble on the one yard Line
- 43:57Speaker 2: And sam hubbard's, returning it Maybe that chamar's or return
- 44:00Speaker 2: at ninety, nine yards we'll forget the, other, Plays right
- 44:03Speaker 2: so can you make plays when it's required and when they?
- 44:06Speaker 2: NEED it i don't know the answer, to IT but
- 44:08Speaker 2: i think, it's close and that THAT'S all i need,
- 44:12Speaker 2: to hear to be honest, with you that it's Closer
- 44:14Speaker 2: that burrow feels. It's, better great line, them up. Let's
- 44:17Speaker 2: go they're one of the few teams that can line,
- 44:19Speaker 2: up today know who their twenty two guys are, to
- 44:21Speaker 2: start and probably plus depth players and. Role players they're
- 44:23Speaker 2: not waiting, on injuries they're not waiting on guys, Coming
- 44:25Speaker 2: back they're not waiting to See all let's set the,
- 44:28Speaker 2: WAITLESS guys acl can you be ready? Week one as
- 44:30Speaker 2: the questions are starting to come up for other players around,
- 44:32Speaker 2: the league we don't have that. This year. Let's go
- 44:35Speaker 2: let's play Football. In june bengals are one of the
- 44:37Speaker 2: few teams ready.
- 44:38Speaker 3: To go.
- 44:39Speaker 1: All right that sounds like it's going to be a
- 44:41Speaker 1: great episode coming Up on bengals on, the brain comparing
- 44:44Speaker 1: this roster to some of the great rosters in, the
- 44:46Speaker 1: past anything else that we all have to look. Forward
- 44:48Speaker 1: to you've wrapped up your video analysis of the. Draft

- 46:49Speaker 1: became an Eight time. Pro bowler that's the most trips
- 46:52Speaker 1: ever By a bengals, Defensive Player.
- 46:55Speaker 3: Gino Atkins geno atkins is a, genetic freak, genetic phenomenon,
- 47:01Speaker 3: genetic marvel however you want to. Put it he is
- 47:05Speaker 3: one of these players that is a once in. A
- 47:07Speaker 3: lifetime his, his, size quickness speed ratio is just off.
- 47:15Speaker 3: The charts not, real tall not a big man six
- 47:19Speaker 3: feet six,' one maybe but over three hundred pounds three
- 47:22Speaker 3: three and twenty five pounds and just strong as. An
- 47:26Speaker 3: ox man and he could. Two gap anybody he could
- 47:29Speaker 3: to two gap a rhino or an elephant or whatever the.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Case may, BE and quiet i mean His When when,
- 47:37Speaker 3: geno adkins, spoke everybody, listened you know because he didn't
- 47:41Speaker 3: really have a whole lot to. Say to anybody but
- 47:44Speaker 3: a heck, of a teammate just a. Dynamic Football player
- 47:49Speaker 3: marvin lewis Said That probably Aj Green and geno adkins
- 47:54Speaker 3: is probably the best offensive and defensive player that he
- 47:58Speaker 3: was ever part of and had privileged To Draft as cincinnati.
- 48:01Speaker 3: BENGAL head coach.
- 48:02Speaker 1: I remember, in our broadcast he used to get a
- 48:05Speaker 1: lot of pleasure out of seeing the first snap, by
- 48:08Speaker 1: the Opposition Knowing that gino atkins was going to introduce
- 48:13Speaker 1: himself to the poor sucker that had to try, to
- 48:15Speaker 1: block him.
- 48:15Speaker 3: And he did he wanted to impose his will on
- 48:19Speaker 3: People And the geno atkins making plays man probably the
- 48:24Speaker 3: best interior Pass rusher, IN bengals, history i mean the.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Best Defensive Tackle tim tim, crumrie was, probably you know
- 48:33Speaker 3: as great A player as i'd ever seen as an
- 48:36Speaker 3: interior defensive Lineman For. The cincinnati bengals and he could
- 48:39Speaker 3: he could too gap. Anything as well he was a.
- 48:43Speaker 3: True nose tackle, he's you know they play him in
- 48:46Speaker 3: a three technique sum but he was a. True nose
- 48:49Speaker 3: tackle gino was more of a, true through tech true.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Through three technique and, those two guys, in my mind
- 48:55Speaker 3: are the two greatest interior Defensive Players in. Cincinnati bengals
- 48:58Speaker 3: history up front, on the line.
- 49:00Speaker 1: All, right up next remarkably somebody from the same Draft Class.
- 49:05Speaker 1: As geno atkins this guy was a second round. Pick That,
- 49:08Speaker 1: year carlos dunlap A two. Time pro bowler HE finished
- 49:12Speaker 1: his nfl career with one hundred sacks eighty two and
- 49:15Speaker 1: a Half in, a bengals uniform that is second most.
- 49:18Speaker 1: In team history he was an.
- 49:20Speaker 3: Extraordinary Pass rusher carlos, dunlap was long had tremendous length,
- 49:27Speaker 3: to his, arms very. Big strong hands when, he grabbed.
- 49:30Speaker 3: You he would it was a force to. Be reckoned
- 49:34Speaker 3: with there's no. Question About that gino Atkins, Out Of
- 49:38Speaker 3: georgia carlos Dunlap. Out Of florida the bengals WENT into
- 49:42Speaker 3: the sec and drafted a couple of premier defensive linemen
- 49:45Speaker 3: out of that conference in, that particular draft and both
- 49:49Speaker 3: of them played at an. Extremely high level when you
- 49:50Speaker 3: get one hundred Sacks In The, national football league you're
- 49:54Speaker 3: talking a hell, of an accomplishment and eighty two and
- 49:56Speaker 3: a half of Them As a cincinnati bengal is, extraordinary
- 49:59Speaker 3: as well puts him amongst the Most ever in. Bengals
- 50:03Speaker 3: franchise history so these two guys Were Stalwarts for marvin
- 50:10Speaker 3: lewis's defensive football Teams For, The cincinnati bengals there's no.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Question about, it up next the fourth overall pick in two,
- 50:18Speaker 1: Thousand and eleven he Went To the pro bowl in
- 50:21Speaker 1: each of HIS first, seven nfl seasons topping one thousand
- 50:24Speaker 1: receiving yards in six of. Those seven years Number Two
- 50:28Speaker 1: to Chad johnson in bengals, history in catches yards. And
- 50:31Speaker 1: Receiving Touchdowns. ADRIEL Jeremiah, green.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Aj Green That's adriel jeremiah, That, IS awesome, dan i
- 50:41Speaker 3: mean it takes me back to great memories that here's
- 50:44Speaker 3: another guy, that tremendous, length contested catches high high, percentage of,
- 50:51Speaker 3: them you know contested catches by definition or fifty. To
- 50:55Speaker 3: fifty balls so you would expect maybe half to go
- 50:57Speaker 3: your way. AND Half not aj green eighty five, ninety
- 51:02Speaker 3: his way. Which is extraordinary but he had the strength
- 51:07Speaker 3: in his hands, and his wrists, his foe, arms his,
- 51:10Speaker 3: BICEPS his triceps i. Mean he had he, had big
- 51:13Speaker 3: arms big powerful arms for. A wide receiver and he
- 51:17Speaker 3: had a. Vertical jump ability he. Could get airborne he
- 51:20Speaker 3: got up. Over forty inches his vertical. Jump WAS extraordinary
- 51:23Speaker 3: remember i read about his coming out. His draft year
- 51:28Speaker 3: so he made. He made Plays Me and ANDY Dalton.
- 51:31Speaker 3: To aj green that was A Music to cincinnati bengals,
- 51:34Speaker 3: fans for. Many many years they made a lot. Of
- 51:38Speaker 3: plays together they made some beautiful music Together in the.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Bengals passing.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Game FOR sure when I Think, of aj green the
- 51:45Speaker 1: word graceful. Comes.
- 51:46Speaker 3: TO mind, perfect i mean that's that's a GREAT Definition,
- 51:50Speaker 3: for aj green that that kind of defines his. PERSONALITY as,
- 51:54Speaker 3: well i mean he was. All about. Grace You know
- 51:58Speaker 3: aj green was almost too good. To be, True you
- 52:01Speaker 3: know IT'S like if i, Had a Daughter I'd want
- 52:04Speaker 3: aj green to date my daughter and. MARRY my, daughter
- 52:06Speaker 3: i mean he was just one, of those guys, just
- 52:09Speaker 3: a good, good human being pure as the driven snow,
- 52:12Speaker 3: as they say and just an extraordinary football player that
- 52:18Speaker 3: made his Mark In The national football league right away
- 52:21Speaker 3: and did it for a.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Number of years up next to first round pick in
- 52:24Speaker 1: two thousand and seven who spent twelve YEARS, in the
- 52:27Speaker 1: nfl the first nine Of. Them in cincinnati twenty six
- 52:30Speaker 1: Interceptions in a bengals uniform that is number four. In
- 52:33Speaker 1: Team History Leon.
- 52:34Speaker 3: Hall leon Hall. Out Of michigan leon hall was another very.
- 52:41Speaker 3: Serious football player he could. Play multiple positions he. Had
- 52:45Speaker 3: position versatility he, could play corner he could. Play slot
- 52:48Speaker 3: corner he, could play safety strong. Or free safety he
- 52:51Speaker 3: gave a lot of diversity to his defensive coaches for
- 52:56Speaker 3: the years that He Was a cincinnati bengal and played
- 52:59Speaker 3: both phases of the. GAME equally, well i mean he
- 53:03Speaker 3: was a very very strong, run support guy, taking on
- 53:06Speaker 3: blocks making sure that he had, to contain responsibility taken
- 53:11Speaker 3: care of and then he'd, separate from blocks get off blocks.
- 53:14Speaker 3: And make tackles he was, very sure. Tackler deadly tackler
- 53:17Speaker 3: he'd get people. On the ground we used to do
- 53:20Speaker 3: a drill called the routine Tackling drill when forrest greg was.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Our head coach you get your head, across the bow
- 53:25Speaker 3: get your, head in front and. Take People Down and
- 53:28Speaker 3: LEON hall, was i mean the number of tackles he
- 53:33Speaker 3: missed in his career you could count. On one hand
- 53:35Speaker 3: he was very, very assignment sound, very very reliable accountable,
- 53:42Speaker 3: to his teammates loved the. Game of football he was
- 53:46Speaker 3: all about the. GAME of football i could see him
- 53:49Speaker 3: being a big factor in coaching if he decided to
- 53:52Speaker 3: get into the coaching. Aspect Of It and geno, ATKINS
- 53:56Speaker 3: good People I mean leon. Hall good People and the
- 53:59Speaker 3: bengals had a nice run there of defensive players that
- 54:03Speaker 3: they drafted in the early rounds for quite a few
- 54:06Speaker 3: years in a row that turned out exceptionally well. For,
- 54:09Speaker 3: the franchise.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Finally a guy who spent sixteen YEARS, in the nfl
- 54:14Speaker 1: the First. Eleven in cincinnati he was A four. Time
- 54:17Speaker 1: pro bowler He Was THE Walter payton nfl Man of
- 54:20Speaker 1: the year in. Twenty twenty one one of the greatest leaders,
- 54:23Speaker 1: In Franchise History Big. Wit andrew whitworth.

- 54:37Speaker 3: Was extraordinary maxiwante we, had great. Players Great leaders andrew
- 54:41Speaker 3: whitworth falls. Into that category and to play as long,
- 54:45Speaker 3: AS he, did I mean big wood took. Care of
- 54:47Speaker 3: himself he took care. Of his body, He trained hard
- 54:52Speaker 3: he understood the. Game of football he would do a,
- 54:55Speaker 3: deep dive, into you know taking apart every strength and
- 55:00Speaker 3: weakness that his opponent have on, a weekly basis and,
- 55:03Speaker 3: he'd you know acknowledge the strengths and. Deal with, them
- 55:09Speaker 3: but boy he would just. Destroy opponent's weaknesses and he would,
- 55:13Speaker 3: tell the, coaches you know run. It behind me, Run
- 55:15Speaker 3: it again, run it again run. The same play run
- 55:18Speaker 3: it until, They stop it run until they have to.

- 56:04Speaker 3: cincinnati bengals football history in. Very many ways AS a.
- 56:08Speaker 1: Former o lineman how remarkable is it that that guy
- 56:11Speaker 1: played tackle at a high level in his FORTIES. In the,
- 56:15Speaker 1: nfl that's.
- 56:16Speaker 3: INCREDIBLE it, is i mean that's taking, care of yourself
- 56:20Speaker 3: taking care, of, yourself physically mentally every way you can take.
- 56:23Speaker 3: Care of yourself and that's a love for the game,
- 56:25Speaker 3: Of football too because to play, INTO your, Forties i
- 56:27Speaker 3: mean andrew played at a time where it's not crazy MONEY,
- 56:31Speaker 3: like today's nfl but it. Was good money it, was
- 56:33Speaker 3: BIG money and i never had to work a day
- 56:35Speaker 3: in his life if he didn't want to when he was.
- 56:36Speaker 3: Done playing football so to play, into your forties you're
- 56:40Speaker 3: playing not necessarily just. For the money you're playing because you,
- 56:43Speaker 3: have a passion deep passion for the. Game of football
- 56:47Speaker 3: you love everything. About the game you, love your teammates you,
