- 0:29SPEAKER_10: Welcome to the O'Brien and Doug Podcast.
- 0:31SPEAKER_10: I'm O'Brien.
- 0:32SPEAKER_10: I'm Doug.
- 0:33SPEAKER_10: Episode 260.
- 0:35SPEAKER_10: Or 260.
- 0:37SPEAKER_10: I have to uh admit something to you.
- 0:40SPEAKER_10: I think I gave you a um job to do for today's podcast, and I forgot what it was.
- 0:48SPEAKER_08: Well, that makes two of us because I don't know what you're talking about.
- 0:50SPEAKER_10: Um because the the only reason I say that is because somebody responded.
- 0:55SPEAKER_10: Was it Kariani?
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Was it Kariani?
- 1:00SPEAKER_10: Um, you know Carriani sent us all those songs from that one artist.
- 1:05SPEAKER_10: Um, but I think he he uh also let's see.
- 1:14SPEAKER_10: No, maybe it wasn't him.
- 1:16SPEAKER_10: No, uh I wonder if it was somebody somebody responded.
- 1:20SPEAKER_10: My my picks, I wonder if it's on our uh Was it Bounce and Bob?
- 1:24SPEAKER_10: Could be.
- 1:24SPEAKER_10: Let me double check here.
- 1:25SPEAKER_10: Let's go to here.
- 1:26SPEAKER_08: It's either Bounce and Bob or Cousin Larry.
- 1:30SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 1:31SPEAKER_10: But I I gave you some sort of uh like if you could think of like three songs.
- 1:40SPEAKER_10: Let's think of three songs.
- 1:42SPEAKER_08: Oh, like classic rock from like the eighties.
- 1:47SPEAKER_08: Is that it?
- 1:49SPEAKER_10: Uh yeah, but what was the what was the premise?
- 1:53SPEAKER_10: Like what was the question?
- 1:54SPEAKER_10: I actually tried to try to remember.
- 1:57SPEAKER_08: Uh I just remember talking about because we were talking about something else.
- 2:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 2:04SPEAKER_10: We got talking about Oh, uh well, uh I don't know.
- 2:11SPEAKER_10: This was in August.
- 2:14SPEAKER_10: Was that bouncing Bob, but I thought it wasn't Bob then?
- 2:17SPEAKER_10: We know.
- 2:18SPEAKER_10: But we never read these.
- 2:21SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 2:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_10: Uh latest mixtape.
- 2:25SPEAKER_10: I like the question so much my ears and eyes ballooned up like Roger Rabbits do when he sees Jessica Rabbit in the buff.
- 2:31SPEAKER_10: Sorry, the other Blanchard children.
- 2:35SPEAKER_10: Question.
- 2:36SPEAKER_10: Europe trip.
- 2:36SPEAKER_10: When I heard the question, I immediately heard Lara's theme from the movie Dr.
- 2:41SPEAKER_10: Chivago.
- 2:42SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 2:42SPEAKER_10: So these are all he's he's just kind of adding to the conversation, the mixtape conversation.
- 2:47SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 2:48SPEAKER_10: Um sorry, Bob, we should we should have uh seen these.
- 2:52SPEAKER_10: Um Somewhere My Love or Lara's Theme by Andy Williams.
- 2:58SPEAKER_10: Ilse's first song, Eyes of a Panther, Steel Panther.
- 3:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so no, it wasn't Bob, but somebody submitted their three choices.
- 3:10SPEAKER_10: And I I don't remember Caryani?
- 3:13SPEAKER_10: It wasn't.
- 3:14SPEAKER_10: I didn't see it in the uh the messages.
- 3:17SPEAKER_10: But I don't even remember what the question or what the what the thing was.
- 3:21SPEAKER_08: Oh no, it was Caryani.
- 3:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, my picks are Thunderstruck, Pour Some Sugar on Me and White Wedding.
- 3:28SPEAKER_08: Okay, yeah, okay.
- 3:32SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's what we were talking about.
- 3:34SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 3:35SPEAKER_10: So reframe it for me.
- 3:37SPEAKER_08: So we were talking about songs that we would if we were sending songs to a distant galaxy for aliens to what were his picks again?
- 3:48SPEAKER_08: Uh Thunderstruck, Pour Some Sugar on Me and White Wedding.
- 3:52SPEAKER_08: And then he goes, then we called it Doug's Across the Universe for Aliens.
- 3:56SPEAKER_08: And then or Doug's Delusional Diatribes.
- 3:59SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 4:00SPEAKER_08: And I said, I was gonna save that for something else.
- 4:03SPEAKER_08: And it was like you you said my solo podcast, and I said, nah, my autobiography.
- 4:08SPEAKER_08: I remember that.
- 4:09SPEAKER_08: Which I think was gonna be like brilliant.
- 4:11SPEAKER_08: It's a brilliant total title.
- 4:12SPEAKER_10: Doug's Diatribes?
- 4:13SPEAKER_08: Doug's Delusional Delusional Diatribes.
- 4:16SPEAKER_08: Yes, you gotta have the delusional one there.
- 4:18SPEAKER_10: Um, so so did you you probably didn't give any thought to it, didn't you?
- 4:24SPEAKER_10: As soon as we're done with the podcast.
- 4:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah, as soon as we walk out, it's like delete program.
- 4:28SPEAKER_08: I don't know what's happening.
- 4:30SPEAKER_08: Same, because obviously Hey look, a bird.
- 4:33SPEAKER_10: Obviously, I I didn't remember it because I had to ask you about it.
- 4:36SPEAKER_10: So yeah, I uh But it it would be it's it's easy.
- 4:40SPEAKER_10: Well, yours would be Metallica.
- 4:42SPEAKER_08: Not necessarily.
- 4:43SPEAKER_10: No.
- 4:44SPEAKER_08: I was thinking I was thinking one would be uh final countdown.
- 4:47SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 4:48SPEAKER_08: I I would I would put that on there.
- 4:50SPEAKER_08: Enter Sandman.
- 4:52SPEAKER_08: And I think the third what I say, what did I think of the third one was gonna be?
- 4:56SPEAKER_08: Uh what the freak was it?
- 5:00SPEAKER_08: Oh, Panama.
- 5:03SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 5:04SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 5:05SPEAKER_10: So this is 80s rock songs.
- 5:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you I think you're it was like 80s.
- 5:09SPEAKER_08: So I assume like 1980 to 89 or 90.
- 5:14SPEAKER_08: So okay.
- 5:14SPEAKER_10: I'd probably put something from Journey.
- 5:16SPEAKER_08: Oh, there you go, yeah.
- 5:17SPEAKER_10: Separate ways, maybe or something.
- 5:18SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, that'd be good.
- 5:19SPEAKER_10: You know, something like that.
- 5:21SPEAKER_10: Uh I would probably do Grand Pantheon of Rock and Roll.
- 5:28SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 5:32SPEAKER_10: See, I have to put more thought into it, I think.
- 5:34SPEAKER_10: Um probably some ACDC.
- 5:36SPEAKER_10: I'd probably put some ACDC in there.
- 5:38SPEAKER_10: I don't know if I'd put Thunderstruck.
- 5:40SPEAKER_10: Um shoot to thrill, maybe.
- 5:45SPEAKER_08: Well, I think we said we couldn't use uh Back to Black.
- 5:49SPEAKER_10: Back in Black?
- 5:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah, back in black, sorry.
- 5:53SPEAKER_08: Because we were talking about that for that's what led to this discussion.
- 5:57SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 5:58SPEAKER_10: So we couldn't use ACDC.
- 5:59SPEAKER_10: We couldn't use that album.
- 5:59SPEAKER_08: Well we couldn't use well, we couldn't use that song.
- 6:02SPEAKER_08: That's what my understanding.
- 6:03SPEAKER_08: I think that's why Kariani said uh Thunderstruck.
- 6:05SPEAKER_08: Thunderstruck.
- 6:06SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 6:06SPEAKER_10: So I'm gonna say separate ways from journey.
- 6:09SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna say uh gosh.
- 6:14SPEAKER_10: Living out of prayer, Bon Jovi.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: That's like an anthem.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:20SPEAKER_10: That's up there.
- 6:21SPEAKER_10: Um and I gotta have some Van Hale on top of the world.
- 6:26SPEAKER_10: Maybe.
- 6:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 6:26SPEAKER_10: Van Hager.
- 6:27SPEAKER_10: Gotta work.
- 6:28SPEAKER_10: And on top of the world.
- 6:31SPEAKER_10: Well there.
- 6:32SPEAKER_10: See?
- 6:33SPEAKER_10: We knew what we were doing.
- 6:35SPEAKER_10: Next song! That makes me laugh every time you do that.
- 6:41SPEAKER_10: Okay, so I we let's just rewind to last week.
- 6:44SPEAKER_10: Oops, sorry.
- 6:45SPEAKER_10: Let's rewind to last week.
- 6:47SPEAKER_10: So we had a rehearsal.
- 6:49SPEAKER_10: We had a rehearsal with another one of our bands.
- 6:53SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 6:55SPEAKER_10: We previously called it Reverend Funk in the Congregation.
- 6:58SPEAKER_10: I'm not sure that is actually the name of it.
- 7:00SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 7:00SPEAKER_08: No, I think I th I think we all decided on A R P uh Speedwagon.
- 7:05SPEAKER_08: Which I think is hilarious.
- 7:07SPEAKER_08: I really do.
- 7:10SPEAKER_10: But it it it's it's so wonderful to be around musicians that know what they're doing.
- 7:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:21SPEAKER_10: Uh because we don't.
- 7:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah, exactly.
- 7:24SPEAKER_10: So it's like we're gonna work on these songs for tonight.
- 7:28SPEAKER_10: So we have a list of songs, and I had, you know, a little bit of time to to look them over.
- 7:35SPEAKER_10: But they're songs that ha not not to coin a phrase, but have been in the pantheon of rock and roll for a long time.
- 7:43SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 7:44SPEAKER_10: One of them is more than a feeling from Boston.
- 7:47SPEAKER_10: And you know, that still has some work to do to to you know, we still have to put some work into it, especially vocally, but we made it all the way through that song the first time.
- 7:56SPEAKER_08: First, yeah, first try.
- 7:57SPEAKER_08: First try.
- 7:58SPEAKER_10: I was like all the way through.
- 8:00SPEAKER_08: Where am I?
- 8:01SPEAKER_10: We did uh working for the weekend, Loverboy.
- 8:03SPEAKER_10: First time all the way through.
- 8:05SPEAKER_08: Like all almost all of them.
- 8:06SPEAKER_08: Almost all of them.
- 8:08SPEAKER_10: And it was like, oh, we could play these out almost.
- 8:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:12SPEAKER_10: You know, it w and it's ju it was just remarkable.
- 8:14SPEAKER_10: And that's not easy to do.
- 8:16SPEAKER_10: I think that comes with Fryzer Up.
- 8:20SPEAKER_10: That comes with chemistry, you know, and and musical ability, obviously.
- 8:25SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 8:26SPEAKER_10: You know, combined musical ability.
- 8:27SPEAKER_10: Because what this band is, is it's the Star City Syndicate without the horn section.
- 8:31SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 8:32SPEAKER_10: And I mean, just it's cool.
- 8:35SPEAKER_10: We could play anything.
- 8:37SPEAKER_10: We could play anything.
- 8:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean we I mean we I think we're holding ourselves back a little bit.
- 8:43SPEAKER_10: A little bit.
- 8:43SPEAKER_10: It's like what do we want to do?
- 8:45SPEAKER_10: You know, and and and we're really learning these songs for one gig.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_10: You know, we have a show coming up at the Cross Center, uh, Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, uh, the first part of August.
- 8:56SPEAKER_10: And it's a it's a one-off thing.
- 8:59SPEAKER_10: You know, we're playing like two two hours, two and hours.
- 9:01SPEAKER_10: Two and a half hours.
- 9:02SPEAKER_10: Two and a half hours, something like that, yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_10: And we're learning all these kind of eighties rock anthems, sort of, and we probably will never play them again.
- 9:14SPEAKER_08: I I think I think if they go over well enough, I think you'll see them next year as non-horns for syndicate gigs.
- 9:22SPEAKER_10: I see that's I have I have an issue with that.
- 9:25SPEAKER_10: Because better not that's not our audience.
- 9:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:28SPEAKER_10: You know, I mean some of them maybe.
- 9:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:30SPEAKER_10: But the majority of the ones that we're learning for this gig, it's not our Star City audience.
- 9:35SPEAKER_10: Oh no, no, I yeah you know, so I don't know that I would put them um I would some of them will.
- 9:40SPEAKER_10: I would say that we could play a separate gig as this band if we wanted to.
- 9:47SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:47SPEAKER_10: You know, I don't know if we want to, but we could.
- 9:51SPEAKER_10: I mean, with these songs that we're learning.
- 9:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's just it's just a I just want to toot our own horn because the fact that we make it through each song on the first try to me is pretty incredible.
- 10:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's it's just it's unheard of.
- 10:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 10:05SPEAKER_10: Really is.
- 10:06SPEAKER_10: Um so bully for us.
- 10:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yes.
- 10:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yes.
- 10:11SPEAKER_10: Um what else was I gonna say?
- 10:15SPEAKER_10: Um before we get to our whole spinal tap thing, uh, I do want to share some new music that was released.
- 10:21SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 10:22SPEAKER_10: And this is a matter of so you have a veteran rock act that uh has seen some tough times recently and actually decided that they were going to retire from the road and say goodbye, do a farewell.
- 10:46SPEAKER_10: And then um the vocalist, the lead vocalist, had some throat problems and they couldn't say goodbye.
- 10:55SPEAKER_10: Their tour or whatever was canceled.
- 10:58SPEAKER_10: And he's been healing and I'm talking about Aerosmith.
- 11:05SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 11:05SPEAKER_10: Aerosmith.
- 11:07SPEAKER_10: And I mean they were always hoping to get back to me, this is marketing.
- 11:13SPEAKER_10: They were always hoping to get back uh to the Vegas residency that will be their goodbye show.
- 11:20SPEAKER_10: Or good goodbye tour, I guess.
- 11:22SPEAKER_10: Um and they were just hoping that Steven Tyler would be well so that so that they could.
- 11:29SPEAKER_10: Um in the meantime, Joe Perry's band, the Joe Perry Project, uh, with Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, has been touring.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: They've been opening up for the Who uh recently.
- 11:40SPEAKER_10: So uh f rewind to uh Ozzy Osbourne's uh Back to the Beginning concert, where this kid came out of virtually nowhere, uh named Youngblood.
- 11:54SPEAKER_10: I think he believes a British kid.
- 11:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think he's been around a while, but I I've never heard of him.
- 11:58SPEAKER_10: I've never heard of him.
- 12:00SPEAKER_10: But he he came out and kind of nailed it on a couple of songs from Ozzy.
- 12:07SPEAKER_10: And so Aerosmith uh teamed up with Youngblood, and they're putting out an EP, like a six or seven song EP, and they've released the first single.
- 12:20SPEAKER_10: Now, I haven't heard it yet, but let me read what they wrote about it.
- 12:25SPEAKER_10: Um, so Aerosmith and Youngblood have released a new collaboration single titled My Only Angel, the first off their upcoming joint EP One More Time, which arrives November 21st.
- 12:36SPEAKER_10: Um, the song pairs a classic soaring Steven Tyler chorus with a their words highly processed guitar and upbeat modern instrumentation.
- 12:48unknown: T.
- 12:49SPEAKER_10: Reminiscent of Aerosmith's just push play era.
- 12:53SPEAKER_10: Or maybe even U2's pop.
- 12:57SPEAKER_10: So this is not going to sound like Aerosmith.
- 12:59unknown: T.
- 13:00SPEAKER_08: Well, if it it's only Stephen Perry or Stephen Perry.
- 13:04SPEAKER_08: Steven Teller, Joe Perry, and youngby.
- 13:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 13:08SPEAKER_08: So it's not the rest of Aerosmith.
- 13:09SPEAKER_10: Well, I don't even I don't even know if it's a band song.
- 13:14SPEAKER_10: I don't know if there's if if it if there's it's because it says modern instrumentation.
- 13:19SPEAKER_10: Drum drum track.
- 13:20SPEAKER_10: You know, I bet.
- 13:21SPEAKER_10: And it's probably good.
- 13:23SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 13:23SPEAKER_10: We're gonna find out.
- 13:24SPEAKER_10: AI music.
- 13:25SPEAKER_10: We're gonna listen to a little bit of it.
- 13:26SPEAKER_10: This is this is it.
- 13:27SPEAKER_10: Aerosmith and it says Aerosmith and Youngblood.
- 13:30SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 13:30SPEAKER_10: Um and this is called My Only Angel.
- 13:34SPEAKER_10: So we'll see what it sounds like.
- 14:46SPEAKER_10: That is Steven Tyler singing, right?
- 14:48SPEAKER_08: No, I don't think so.
- 14:49SPEAKER_10: You don't think so?
- 14:50SPEAKER_08: I think that's a young blood guy.
- 15:02SPEAKER_10: That's Steven Tyler.
- 15:06SPEAKER_10: Remember, he's had vocal issues.
- 15:07SPEAKER_08: Well, I know, but it it it sounds too young.
- 15:12SPEAKER_08: I mean, I know you can you can tell the whole thing's autotuned.
- 15:16SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's it's it's heavily auto-tuned, so it's it's actually hard to tell if it is a Steven Tyler or not.
- 15:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know, but I think it's that young blood guy.
- 15:25SPEAKER_08: I mean, otherwise, why would they bring him in?
- 15:27SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 15:33SPEAKER_08: I mean, the rip sounds like a Joe Perry rip.
- 15:37SPEAKER_08: But that sounds like the Youngblood kid.
- 15:42SPEAKER_08: I don't like I don't I mean maybe Steven Tao is in there somewhere, but I don't know, man.
- 15:48SPEAKER_10: I I can I can hear Stephen Tao because yeah, don't worry.
- 15:54SPEAKER_10: That's Youngblood.
- 15:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, I think it doesn't sound much different from the first.
- 16:09SPEAKER_10: I think that's that's young blood in the second verse, and this back here.
- 16:13SPEAKER_10: I love how we're just dissecting.
- 16:17SPEAKER_10: Okay, I've done it even to I've got it.
- 16:22SPEAKER_10: But you're right, heavily it's heavy auto tone heavily processed.
- 16:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_10: Okay, so if it didn't sound the way it did, oh I like it.
- 16:44SPEAKER_10: I like the music, except for well, I didn't care for the beginning.
- 16:49SPEAKER_10: No, that little guitar thing in the beginning.
- 16:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that was a little weird.
- 16:52SPEAKER_08: It didn't seem to fit.
- 16:53SPEAKER_10: This is very just chaotic.
- 16:58SPEAKER_10: Right here.
- 17:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's like it's like almost sounds like it's it's got a sounds like there's you know everybody in the studio is playing a different song at the same time.
- 17:18SPEAKER_08: I read the best description of Primus I've ever read.
- 17:23SPEAKER_08: If you ever want to describe what Primus sounds like to somebody, yeah, just say it's three very talented musicians playing three different playing three different songs at the same time sung by a hobo.
- 17:39SPEAKER_08: I was like, that is brilliant.
- 17:42SPEAKER_08: But that's what that beginning sounds like.
- 17:44SPEAKER_08: It sounds like that guitar riff makes no sense.
- 17:47SPEAKER_10: It doesn't.
- 17:47SPEAKER_10: It makes no sense.
- 17:48SPEAKER_10: It almost sounds like it's in a different key.
- 17:51SPEAKER_08: Something, something, something's off about it.
- 17:53SPEAKER_08: But I mean, like the the chorus and the verse, I mean sounds yeah, sounds pretty good.
- 17:58SPEAKER_10: I like it.
- 18:06SPEAKER_08: It's a backward.
- 18:10SPEAKER_10: No, I just think it's I just think it's somebody who's trying to be cool.
- 18:16SPEAKER_10: Um but I think if it wasn't as processed as it is, it's very processed, it's very processed, and it's almost hard to listen to.
- 18:25SPEAKER_10: It's very shhh, you know, yeah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_10: Um compressed or something.
- 18:30SPEAKER_10: Um I like I I I think I might like the song.
- 18:33SPEAKER_10: It sounds like an Aerosmith tune.
- 18:35SPEAKER_10: It does, yeah.
- 18:36SPEAKER_10: You know, a little bit like modern Air.
- 18:38SPEAKER_08: If they fix that beginning, I mean something about the beginning.
- 18:41SPEAKER_08: Because the rest of the song's pretty good.
- 18:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so um let's see.
- 18:45SPEAKER_10: My only angel marks Aerosmith's first new music since their 2012 album.
- 18:51SPEAKER_10: Music from another dimension, which was not a good album.
- 18:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I was about to say that I don't remember anything off that album.
- 18:56SPEAKER_10: It's also their first big move since canceling their Peace Out Farewell tour and retiring from the road last year due to a vocal injury Tyler sustained.
- 19:02SPEAKER_10: Uh Tyler and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry recently performed with Youngblood at the MTV VMA's tribute to Ozzie Osborne.
- 19:09SPEAKER_10: Okay, the MTV Video Music Awards.
- 19:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't understand why because they haven't shown a videos.
- 19:15SPEAKER_08: They haven't shown a video in decades.
- 19:17SPEAKER_08: So why are they still having that?
- 19:19SPEAKER_10: How can they call how can they call that the VMAs?
- 19:21SPEAKER_10: Can I call it something else?
- 19:22SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 19:23SPEAKER_10: Um Lame Music.
- 19:25SPEAKER_10: Anyway, so we went to the movies.
- 19:30SPEAKER_08: This reminded me of something, the autotune thing.
- 19:32SPEAKER_08: I was watching uh Wings of Pegasus again.
- 19:35SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 19:35SPEAKER_08: Do you know who Chet Baker is?
- 19:37SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 19:38SPEAKER_08: Somebody uploaded a track onto his official YouTube page that is so badly auto-tuned.
- 19:48SPEAKER_08: It is terrible.
- 19:51SPEAKER_08: Terrible.
- 19:53SPEAKER_08: And I don't know, nobody seems to know where it came from.
- 19:57SPEAKER_08: Ched Baker's been dead a long time.
- 19:59SPEAKER_08: He's he's been dead since like 1988.
- 20:02SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 20:02SPEAKER_08: And he was he was a great singer.
- 20:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 20:04SPEAKER_08: But this song that they put up on there is so awful.
- 20:08SPEAKER_10: Because they did something to it?
- 20:10SPEAKER_08: They auto-tuned it so bad, it is horrible.
- 20:13SPEAKER_10: Do I dare to uh to look for it?
- 20:16SPEAKER_08: I don't remember what it was.
- 20:17SPEAKER_08: I mean, it'd probably be easier to look up Wings of Pegasus because he just did it on uh Well, let me just see.
- 20:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's Baker, right?
- 20:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:26SPEAKER_10: Uh let me just see what is it almost blue?
- 20:29SPEAKER_10: It's not almost blue.
- 20:30SPEAKER_08: I I don't know.
- 20:32SPEAKER_10: Oh, this was 16 years ago.
- 20:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:34SPEAKER_10: So let me go to View Channel.
- 20:38SPEAKER_10: And let me go let me go to that's two years ago.
- 20:43SPEAKER_10: Let's go to videos.
- 20:45SPEAKER_08: Unless they unless they've taken it down since then.
- 20:48SPEAKER_10: Two years ago, two years ago, two years ago.
- 20:51SPEAKER_10: Two years ago.
- 20:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah, all this.
- 20:53SPEAKER_08: Okay, oh okay, good.
- 20:54SPEAKER_08: Somebody somebody took it down then.
- 20:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 20:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:57SPEAKER_08: Oh but if but if you go to the wings of Pegasus, he's got the he's got the reaction to it, and it's it's I mean, it was it is the worst thing I'd ever heard.
- 21:06SPEAKER_08: Um I mean, it was terrible.
- 21:08SPEAKER_08: I mean, there's bad auto-tuning, and then there's this.
- 21:14SPEAKER_10: Um so I'm not going to uh right there, that where it says disgusting.
- 21:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 21:19SPEAKER_10: Uh disgusting where?
- 21:20SPEAKER_08: Right, right, that one right there where it says disgust- That's the one you started.
- 21:22SPEAKER_08: Oh, right here.
- 21:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's the one we're talking about.
- 21:26SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 21:27SPEAKER_10: So I'm not gonna play that over our our podcast, but I'll watch that uh uh in in a bit.
- 21:33SPEAKER_10: Um and speaking of autotunes, so I I told you I was taking um two online classes to finish out my teaching certification.
- 21:41SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:41SPEAKER_10: One of them is audio uh recording, basically, and she's helping me uh because I have a some songs that weren't finished that I started recording and and she's kind of helping me sort all that out.
- 21:56SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:56SPEAKER_10: And what do you want to do?
- 21:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:00SPEAKER_10: Isn't she a proponent of auto-tune?
- 22:03SPEAKER_10: She's like, you know, you can you can tighten it right up and and you don't have to worry about blah blah blah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_10: And I I so was holding uh biting my tongue.
- 22:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's like maybe try and sing it in tune.
- 22:15unknown: Yeah.
- 22:16SPEAKER_07: How about uh how about that?
- 22:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:18SPEAKER_10: But it was just sing it with your own voice.
- 22:20SPEAKER_10: And she and she also, and and I I know I'm kind of uh literally talking out of school here, but um she's very nice.
- 22:31SPEAKER_10: And she's you know, she's good at what she does.
- 22:33SPEAKER_10: Um I'm not saying her name or anything.
- 22:36SPEAKER_10: Um but she like I was I said one of my biggest things is the kind of the mastering process.
- 22:46SPEAKER_10: In other words, I can do a mix on my computer here of a song that I'm doing, and when I output it like to to an MP3 or to a Wave or whatever file it's gonna be, it's usually quieter than everything else.
- 23:02SPEAKER_10: I you know, I want it to be like like if you hear my song next to another song, that the volume is the same.
- 23:10SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 23:10SPEAKER_10: You know, I don't know, I'm not saying it has to be like extraordinarily loud, right?
- 23:13SPEAKER_10: But I like it to match.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:15SPEAKER_10: And she starts going off about how mastering is overrated.
- 23:23SPEAKER_10: And uh you know, back in the day, you know, it's okay.
- 23:26SPEAKER_08: She's obviously somebody who's never She's young.
- 23:30SPEAKER_08: She's she's all she only knows digital and pro tools.
- 23:33SPEAKER_10: Oh, I guarantee you.
- 23:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah, okay.
- 23:34SPEAKER_08: So that that explains a lot.
- 23:36SPEAKER_10: She's I'm gonna guess, if I had to guess, I would say she's 30.
- 23:41SPEAKER_08: That's really young.
- 23:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, she doesn't know a world of technical.
- 23:44SPEAKER_10: Right, exactly.
- 23:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 23:46SPEAKER_10: So she would she would say things like, you know, back in the day, they would bring someone in to to master it and just like tweak it just a just a little, you know, that little nuance, you know, and and and and nowadays it's just like we know that's we don't we don't you know do that.
- 24:02SPEAKER_08: And I'm like Yeah, we can tell.
- 24:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah exactly.
- 24:05SPEAKER_08: We can tell.
- 24:05SPEAKER_10: And so I was just like, well so she would she gave me some tips as to how I might might do that, and I think she was spitballing, to be honest with you.
- 24:16SPEAKER_10: Oh probably.
- 24:16SPEAKER_10: You should try this.
- 24:17SPEAKER_10: And I think uh rather than um you know increasing your gain and your EQ, I think maybe uh some compression would be good on somebody's I'm like, okay, I'll try that.
- 24:27SPEAKER_10: You know, and I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I just thought it was and she was such a big proponent of autotune.
- 24:33SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 24:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 24:34SPEAKER_10: So here we go.
- 24:36SPEAKER_10: Crazy.
- 24:36SPEAKER_10: Here we go.
- 24:37SPEAKER_10: Crazy stuff.
- 24:38SPEAKER_10: All right, moving on.
- 24:40SPEAKER_10: We did see a movie on Sunday, you and I.
- 24:42SPEAKER_10: We had a little date.
- 24:44SPEAKER_10: Had a little date.
- 24:46SPEAKER_10: Podcast date.
- 24:47SPEAKER_10: Little podcast date.
- 24:48SPEAKER_10: Um, and we finally um broke down and went and saw Spinal Tap 2, The End Continues.
- 24:55SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 24:56SPEAKER_10: Um let's see.
- 24:59SPEAKER_10: We laughed.
- 25:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 25:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 25:02SPEAKER_10: I mean we laughed.
- 25:03SPEAKER_08: I mean, it was it's the same kind of humor as the first one.
- 25:08SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's it's it's a lot of ad lib, you can tell.
- 25:11SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 25:12SPEAKER_08: Um what I didn't like about it is how much Rob Reiner put himself into it.
- 25:17SPEAKER_10: I noticed that too.
- 25:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I didn't I didn't care for that because you know, in the first one, he's he I mean he's there, but he's not right.
- 25:23SPEAKER_10: He doesn't work it's a documentary.
- 25:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:25SPEAKER_08: This one he he makes himself like one of the main characters.
- 25:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 25:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 25:30SPEAKER_10: I noticed that as well.
- 25:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_10: Um it was you know, it might have been better if I had seen the original uh before we went, just to kind of remind me.
- 25:42SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 25:42SPEAKER_10: Um because it seemed slow to me.
- 25:47SPEAKER_10: The new one?
- 25:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah, the new one.
- 25:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was a little slow, but I mean I think But I think it is a short movie, but I think the original is like that as well.
- 25:57SPEAKER_08: There are parts of it slow, but it it it's more it's more of the first one is more of a documentary.
- 26:02SPEAKER_08: I mean it looks more like a documentary than this one did.
- 26:05SPEAKER_08: This one looks more like a movie.
- 26:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:08SPEAKER_08: You know, it's the mockumentary.
- 26:11SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 26:11SPEAKER_08: You know, the first one is like a mockumentary, yes, but yeah.
- 26:14SPEAKER_08: It's it looks more like it.
- 26:16SPEAKER_08: It could if you didn't know any better, you would be like, oh, this is some sort of uh you know, like, you know wild times in Africa.
- 26:24SPEAKER_08: Right, right.
- 26:24SPEAKER_08: You know, you know.
- 26:25SPEAKER_10: And it was good.
- 26:26SPEAKER_08: I don't want to say it wasn't good because there were some pretty good lines in it.
- 26:29SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 26:29SPEAKER_08: You know, some funny stuff in it.
- 26:31SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 26:32SPEAKER_08: I don't want to.
- 26:34SPEAKER_10: Well, I think if one of you died, you know.
- 26:36SPEAKER_08: But I one or two of you died.
- 26:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but I don't want to.
- 26:38SPEAKER_10: I don't want to.
- 26:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_10: It was it was uh that was like the main thing.
- 26:47SPEAKER_08: It's like, you know, because they're auditioning drummers and they're talking a quest love, and he's like, Yeah, yeah, I don't want to die.
- 26:55SPEAKER_10: Who was the female drummer?
- 26:56SPEAKER_10: Do you know?
- 26:57SPEAKER_08: Did you her name was Valerie Franco?
- 26:59SPEAKER_08: I looked her up.
- 27:00SPEAKER_08: Where do I know her from?
- 27:01SPEAKER_08: I don't I don't know her.
- 27:03SPEAKER_08: She's like a pop drummer, she's drummed for like Katy Perry and Okay, yeah.
- 27:08SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 27:09SPEAKER_08: Now she's legit.
- 27:09SPEAKER_08: She's a legit.
- 27:11SPEAKER_08: I could tell.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah, she's she's really good.
- 27:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, I can tell.
- 27:14SPEAKER_10: Um okay, so uh to kind of dovetail with that, uh, ultimate classicrock.com has an article called I don't want to call 28 Hilarious Real Life Rockstar Spinal Tap Stories.
- 27:29SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 27:30SPEAKER_10: Uh do we have any spinal tap stories?
- 27:32SPEAKER_10: Do we?
- 27:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:34SPEAKER_10: Like have we ever gotten lost or uh like I don't I can't think of any.
- 27:39SPEAKER_08: We just have these like moments where it's just you know, well, like when we played in Levant and then we went to Denny's afterwards and we're at the hotel, and it's you, me, and Joko.
- 27:51SPEAKER_10: We were sleep deprived?
- 27:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we were very it was like three o'clock in the morning.
- 27:54SPEAKER_08: I mean, we are tired, and I'm wearing that freaking sombrero that I stole from the party.
- 27:59SPEAKER_08: And we were at the parking lot and was like, don't start fires or something.
- 28:04SPEAKER_08: I was like, and I was just like, I ain't start no fires, and you guys just laugh for like 20 minutes about it.
- 28:10SPEAKER_10: It was one of those you had to be there and be sleep-deprived moments.
- 28:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we've had a lot of those over the years.
- 28:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 28:16SPEAKER_08: Like uh when we were playing in Portage that one time and Shane sugared Joko at the dinner table when we were eating on his leg, and we were all just bursting out laughing because Joko was just completely oblivious to him.
- 28:30SPEAKER_10: No idea.
- 28:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no idea.
- 28:31SPEAKER_08: It's just it's little moments like that, but we don't have any like I can't think of any like like we mishaps or yeah, or you can't imagine any mishaps, or we've had it, you know, we've had like mics fall and stuff stop working, and you know, I think I can't think of anything.
- 28:46SPEAKER_08: But nothing like you would be like, oh yeah, this is right out of spinal tap, you know what I mean?
- 28:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah, nothing pops out for me.
- 28:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah, just just little, you know, things that we think is hilarious.
- 28:55SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 28:55SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 28:56SPEAKER_08: So but over you know, we've been playing out for long time thirty thirty plus years.
- 29:02SPEAKER_10: So I mean, you know.
- 29:03SPEAKER_10: Um I think of those, you know, everything that came out of that um wedding down in um Oh, down Lincoln uh uh where was it?
- 29:13SPEAKER_10: I was gonna say Lincoln area, right?
- 29:15SPEAKER_10: Burlington, yeah.
- 29:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 29:16SPEAKER_10: Everything that came out of there.
- 29:18SPEAKER_05: St.
- 29:18SPEAKER_05: Shane, potpourri, potpourri.
- 29:21SPEAKER_05: May I have a cup so I might enjoy a tasty beverage?
- 29:26SPEAKER_08: I mean it was just like one liner after one liner, and that dude that like was like throwing credit cards up on the stage for us to play longer, and we're like, dude, what are we gonna do with this?
- 29:36SPEAKER_08: We don't have like a what are we gonna do?
- 29:40SPEAKER_08: Right, you know?
- 29:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, just just little things like that over the years that we you know.
- 29:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 29:47SPEAKER_10: Just fun funny things.
- 29:48SPEAKER_10: Funny things.
- 29:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, nothing really spinal tapping.
- 29:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 29:53SPEAKER_10: So let's look at this.
- 29:54SPEAKER_10: Twenty-eight hilarious real-life rock star spinal tap stories.
- 29:57SPEAKER_10: Uh, the first one that they are featuring is Gene Simmons Almost Gets Dumped Midair.
- 30:03SPEAKER_10: KISS arranged quite a spectacular entrance for their end-of-the-road farewell tour with the band descending from the rafters on individual platforms.
- 30:12SPEAKER_10: Unfortunately, at the October 9th, 2021 show in Tampa, the platform-holding bassist Gene Simmons suddenly tilted to one side mid-air.
- 30:22SPEAKER_10: Luckily, the God of Thunder was able to maintain his footing and continue with the show.
- 30:27SPEAKER_10: Yes, kiddies, he later tweeted, the big bad man still risks safety to do what no one on stage has ever done.
- 30:33SPEAKER_10: I don't know if you can see that or not.
- 30:35SPEAKER_10: There is video footage of it.
- 30:38unknown: You gotta help us.
- 30:40SPEAKER_10: Let me see if I can fast forward.
- 30:43SPEAKER_10: Alright, so there's Gene coming down.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:52SPEAKER_10: Looks like he's open.
- 30:53SPEAKER_08: Oh, there we go, that's not a man.
- 30:57SPEAKER_08: You know, it didn't even seem to like raise him.
- 31:01SPEAKER_10: He's holding on to the rope though.
- 31:07SPEAKER_10: Is he that makes me wonder, is he playing the bass if he's holding on to the rope?
- 31:13SPEAKER_08: I I almost guarantee there's a back in track.
- 31:22SPEAKER_10: He's got his back to the audience.
- 31:30SPEAKER_10: He can't get down off the thing.
- 31:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that thing is.
- 31:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah, there he goes.
- 31:35SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 31:40SPEAKER_10: Alright, well, there's number one.
- 31:43SPEAKER_10: And not all of them have videos.
- 31:45SPEAKER_10: Hello, Sydney.
- 31:47SPEAKER_10: Wait, why are you booing already?
- 31:50SPEAKER_10: Guns N' Roses Instrument Tech, McBob's voice, is in fine form as he says hello to Sydney, Australia before a 2017 show.
- 31:58SPEAKER_10: Just one problem.
- 31:58SPEAKER_10: As you can probably guess, the audience allowed boos.
- 32:01SPEAKER_10: The band was performing in Melbourne.
- 32:03SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 32:04SPEAKER_10: McBob feels horrible, Axel Rose tweeted the next day.
- 32:07SPEAKER_10: I would do it.
- 32:08SPEAKER_10: Metallica's Kirk Hammett races through an obstacle course.
- 32:12SPEAKER_10: Even though they were the hottest band in metal at the time, Metallica were still a bit intimidated by the crowd at the Freddie Mercury tribute show.
- 32:18SPEAKER_10: I looked out in the audience and it was not our audience, Hammett said.
- 32:22SPEAKER_10: It was like the general population of England.
- 32:25SPEAKER_10: To add to his stress, the next thing he heard was bandmate James Hetfield starting the opening chords of Enter Sandman.
- 32:31SPEAKER_10: Um I turned around, jumped over someone else's monitor from some other band, weaved through a back line of some other bands, and then popped out in front of everything just in time for me to hit the wah pedal chord.
- 32:42SPEAKER_10: So why?
- 32:43SPEAKER_10: Where was he?
- 32:43SPEAKER_10: Was he not on the must have been backstage?
- 32:47SPEAKER_10: Why would they s why would they start it without out Okay, so Hetfield started the riff and starts walking out on stage.
- 33:02SPEAKER_10: Oh, there's Hammett.
- 33:03SPEAKER_10: There's Hammett.
- 33:07SPEAKER_10: And that's the waffing he was talking about.
- 33:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:09SPEAKER_10: So he he made it.
- 33:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:11SPEAKER_10: Anyway, and there's a lot of things.
- 33:12SPEAKER_08: Well, look, uh, because I think the you know, they used to come out on this thing where they would come out individually.
- 33:18SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 33:18SPEAKER_08: You know, and maybe he just got like caught up, or like you said, like you said, he was like there was like a ton of band equipment out there from every other band that was playing that day.
- 33:27SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 33:28SPEAKER_08: Just you know, trying to weave.
- 33:29SPEAKER_08: Just gonna weave through, yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 33:31SPEAKER_10: Spinal tap had their own problems at the Freddie Mercury Tribute show.
- 33:35SPEAKER_10: Bassist Derek Smalls revealed that Spinal Tap were victims of sabotage at the same Freddie Mercury Tribute concert.
- 33:41SPEAKER_10: Somebody backstage effed with our amps, and when we're introduced and start the Majesty of Rock, Nigel Tuftnose hits the opening power chord, and there's silence, he recalled.
- 33:52SPEAKER_10: We're out there in front of thousands at Wimbly, and who knows how many more via tele, and nobody on the crew moves a muscle because they think it's our thing.
- 33:59SPEAKER_10: Felt like ours out there.
- 34:01SPEAKER_10: David St.
- 34:02SPEAKER_10: Hummins later said the band had a suspect.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: The theory I heard was that Guns N' Roses did it as a gag.
- 34:07SPEAKER_10: There is there is footage, so I want to see.
- 34:09SPEAKER_10: I want to see what you're gonna think this was a thing.
- 34:17SPEAKER_08: I would I almost think it was a gag.
- 34:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah, because it's Bob Gildorf.
- 34:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it is.
- 34:27SPEAKER_10: It is spinal tap.
- 34:29SPEAKER_08: But that's I mean what that's what they're known for.
- 34:31SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 34:32SPEAKER_10: They're coming out as royalty.
- 34:40SPEAKER_08: Well, they did that briefly in the movies on Sunday too.
- 34:45SPEAKER_08: They were in the robes, they had the union jacket on.
- 34:59SPEAKER_10: I remember watching the Freddie Mercury concert, but I don't remember.
- 35:02SPEAKER_08: I don't remember that as not.
- 35:08SPEAKER_10: So obviously they're gonna give Nigel a guitar.
- 35:12unknown: Okay.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Although we did not know Freddie Mercury personally.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: We hear the man we all love this music very much.
- 35:31SPEAKER_15: I don't know if it's all right.
- 35:33SPEAKER_15: We would like to get short tonight by about thirty-five times.
- 36:26SPEAKER_10: Now I'm wondering if it was real.
- 36:27SPEAKER_08: It might have been, I don't know.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: Any requests?
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: I want you all to embrace now, but do it the same thing.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: That's better.
- 37:10SPEAKER_10: I think we've seen it now.
- 37:11SPEAKER_10: But I I think that's real.
- 37:13SPEAKER_08: It could be real.
- 37:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:14SPEAKER_08: It reminds me of uh if you've ever seen the year and a half in the life of a long time ago.
- 37:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:19SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 37:20SPEAKER_08: When they're at they're, you know, they're they're talking Spinal Tap is talking Metallica and and uh Michael McKean's like, excuse me, Metallica representative.
- 37:30SPEAKER_08: He's talking to James Hetfield.
- 37:32SPEAKER_08: Where did you get the idea for the black album?
- 37:34SPEAKER_08: Because their album was black because they had to censor their in the in the first movie, they had to censor the cover.
- 37:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:41SPEAKER_08: And it just came out all it was just a black album.
- 37:44SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 37:44SPEAKER_08: Where'd you get the idea for a black album?
- 37:47SPEAKER_10: Well, isn't there not not for nothing, but um the Metallica's black album, there is something on it.
- 37:54SPEAKER_08: There's there's the Gadson from the Gadson flag.
- 37:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:58SPEAKER_08: The the coiled snake.
- 37:59SPEAKER_08: Right, that's what I mean.
- 38:00SPEAKER_08: But you have to look at it at a hold it, you know.
- 38:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:04SPEAKER_08: Just right.
- 38:05SPEAKER_10: Um let's see, moving on.
- 38:06SPEAKER_10: Quiet Riot's drummer mistakenly kicked a roadie having a heart attack.
- 38:11unknown: What?
- 38:15SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 38:16SPEAKER_10: Uh Quiet Riot learned the value of a trusted road crew while performing at the 83 U Us Festival when they had to send their regular team ahead to prep for another show and rely on replacements.
- 38:27SPEAKER_10: I had a t uh I had our tour manager get in touch with the drum tech we'd had before that we'd fired, Frank M.
- 38:32SPEAKER_10: Downley recalled.
- 38:33SPEAKER_10: So here we are.
- 38:33SPEAKER_10: It's about 40 minutes before we're supposed to go on, and I'm standing backstage.
- 38:37SPEAKER_10: My drum kit isn't quite completely set up yet, and it's getting down to the wire.
- 38:40SPEAKER_10: So I go out there and my tech is like on one knee, clutching his heart, and he says, I think I'm having a heart attack.
- 38:46SPEAKER_10: But now, he's suggesting that the heart attack was drug induced, admits to thinking the tech was fooling around, which led him to be uh to behave less than compassionately.
- 38:55SPEAKER_10: He's down, lying on the stage, and I start to kick him.
- 38:58SPEAKER_10: And as I'm kicking, the paramedics come around the corner and they take him away.
- 39:01SPEAKER_10: So now he's gone, and my drum set's not set up right.
- 39:03SPEAKER_10: He wound up putting up uh putting on the half-hearted disguise of a baseball cap and ponytail to finish the job himself.
- 39:10SPEAKER_10: I'm not going to play that because I don't think there's footage of that.
- 39:13SPEAKER_08: No, it's probably not.
- 39:14SPEAKER_10: Uh Guns N' Roses Bumblefoot has a shockmaster moment.
- 39:18SPEAKER_10: Uh while performing in a pouring rainstorm with G and R at Rock and Rio in 2011, guitarist Ron Bumblefoot Thawl decided to up the degree of difficulty up even more by playing with a Star Wars helmet on his head.
- 39:31SPEAKER_10: As you can see in the video below, this didn't go well as the helmet got stuck on his head.
- 39:35SPEAKER_10: I managed to get the helmet up at least over my eyes and keep it there.
- 39:40SPEAKER_10: And then I think I nodded like, ah, good, and it flopped right back down.
- 39:45SPEAKER_10: Halfway through the solo, I just had to stop playing and pull this helmet back so I could see what I was doing.
- 39:58SPEAKER_13: Did that just follow it?
- 40:08SPEAKER_13: Poor guy.
- 40:10SPEAKER_10: That's hard to watch.
- 40:11SPEAKER_05: It is hard to watch.
- 40:13SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 40:16SPEAKER_05: Okay, that's pretty funny.
- 40:18SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 40:18SPEAKER_05: That is pretty funny.
- 40:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that is good.
- 40:21SPEAKER_10: Uh ZZ Tops Dusty Hill does the tube snake uh tube stuck boogie.
- 40:25SPEAKER_10: Dusty Hill once told uh Ultimate Classic Rockwell, he can't bear to watch this is Spinal Tap.
- 40:30SPEAKER_10: It's just too real, he said.
- 40:32SPEAKER_10: You know when Derek Smalls, played by Harry Shearer, gets caught in the tube?
- 40:36SPEAKER_10: Well, that happened to me.
- 40:38SPEAKER_10: We had another tour where we came up in these big tubes, and I'm claustrophobic, so I'm in there and the door didn't open, and this was a three-tier stage, and I was on the top tier.
- 40:46SPEAKER_10: So if I had fallen off, it would have been interesting to say the least.
- 40:50SPEAKER_10: I think I heard that.
- 40:51SPEAKER_10: I think I did too somewhere.
- 40:53SPEAKER_10: I think he's talked about that.
- 40:54SPEAKER_10: Aerosmith spent half a million on their own Stonehenge style prop.
- 40:58SPEAKER_10: I think I read that too, actually.
- 41:00SPEAKER_10: Um this guy showed us this whole thing and how it was all going to come together.
- 41:05SPEAKER_10: All we had to do was write a check for five hundred thousand dollars, and it would be perfect in everything.
- 41:10SPEAKER_10: We did pre-production someplace in Illinois, and we're sitting in the arena and we're watching this thing come together, and it took ten minutes for the thing to come together, and it was wobbling around.
- 41:18SPEAKER_10: It was the same thing as the Stonehenge thing.
- 41:20SPEAKER_10: It was in the trucks on the way home, biggest waste of time and waste of money.
- 41:26SPEAKER_10: Five hundred thousand dollars for a stage product.
- 41:29SPEAKER_10: Oh goodness.
- 41:30SPEAKER_10: Tool's basis has to avoid recreating a spinal tap scene at every show.
- 41:35SPEAKER_10: Justin Chancellor of Tool had to be careful to avoid replicating uh the this is Spinal Tap Air Force Base radio interference scene every time he uses his main bass.
- 41:45SPEAKER_10: I don't know what I did to it, he told Music Radar in twenty nineteen.
- 41:48SPEAKER_10: It sounds amazing and one one of a kind at this point, but it picks up a really decent radio signal if you're anywhere near an antenna.
- 41:55SPEAKER_10: As a result, he has to stand in one particular position to avoid tuning into local radio stations.
- 42:02SPEAKER_10: Um Robert Smith of the Cure sings the wrong song.
- 42:07SPEAKER_10: In twenty twenty-four, Robert Smith told Absolute Radio that he had no intention of becoming the cure's lead singer, and considering how bad he messed up his first performance in that role, that is understandable.
- 42:17SPEAKER_10: Agreeing to attempt one song at the band's first show, Smith found himself out of step with the other musicians.
- 42:21SPEAKER_10: While his bandmates broke into a Jimi Hendrix classic, Smith delivered a David Bowie track instead.
- 42:26SPEAKER_10: I played and sang Suffragette City and every what else was doing Foxy Lady.
- 42:32SPEAKER_10: And now I was so drunk I didn't even know.
- 42:34SPEAKER_10: I thought that was good.
- 42:36SPEAKER_10: And everybody's like, You played the wrong song.
- 42:39SPEAKER_10: That's a good one.
- 42:41SPEAKER_10: That was good.
- 42:42SPEAKER_10: That was good.
- 42:43SPEAKER_06: That was awesome, man.
- 42:44SPEAKER_10: Even ACDC has to deal with traffic jams.
- 42:48SPEAKER_10: It took a second for ACDC singer Brian Johnson to decide which story to tell.
- 42:52SPEAKER_10: He and Angus Young remembered the immediate aftermath of a Scandinavian show on the Black Ice Tour, where the band ran to the bus in an effort to avoid getting stuck in traffic.
- 43:01SPEAKER_10: They got there in time and started to move, but instead of turning right, the bus turned left directly into the line of stuck traffic.
- 43:09SPEAKER_10: Duff McKagan of G and R gets stuck face down on the stage.
- 43:14SPEAKER_10: He's had about 1,011 spinal tap moments, but there's one in particular that stood out.
- 43:19SPEAKER_10: He's wearing a large belt with big crosses sticking out of it, and somehow the details have been lost to time.
- 43:24SPEAKER_10: He found himself on the grated stage.
- 43:26SPEAKER_10: Unfortunately, the crosses latched onto the grates, preventing McKagan from getting up.
- 43:32SPEAKER_10: An assistant had to come out and remove the belt so he could stand up.
- 43:35SPEAKER_08: I think he talked about that in his do in the documentary they did about him.
- 43:39SPEAKER_08: I think I think I think I've heard that story.
- 43:48SPEAKER_10: Paul Rogers would get a nightly opportunity to revisit by companies passed with their namesake song.
- 43:53SPEAKER_10: The singer would go below the stage where a piano on hydraulics would bring him up as he played among the smoke and lasers.
- 43:59SPEAKER_10: One night.
- 44:00SPEAKER_10: Brian May didn't see where he was and fell into the opening, landing on the end of the piano.
- 44:05SPEAKER_10: Oh ouch.
- 44:06SPEAKER_10: The crew had to stop the lift as the roadies pulled him out before he got crushed.
- 44:10SPEAKER_10: Throughout it all May kept his guitar in tune and never stopped playing.
- 44:14SPEAKER_10: Ouch.
- 44:16SPEAKER_08: That's why he's Brian May.
- 44:18SPEAKER_10: Uh Motley Crew took the long way to the stage.
- 44:21SPEAKER_14: Hello, Cleveland.
- 44:23SPEAKER_10: They were uh on their shout at the devil, let's see, in the beginning as their walk-on music playing it from a cassette, but a locked door meant they had to take a different route to get to the stage, which took longer than the song, but the soundman kept the tape running into the next track, Shout at the Devil, which was Crew's opening stage song.
- 44:39SPEAKER_10: The band eventually got in place and began their set by playing along with the tape.
- 44:44SPEAKER_10: Not much has changed.
- 44:47SPEAKER_10: Foreigner gets stuck below the stage.
- 44:50SPEAKER_10: I'll just I'll just read a couple of these titles.
- 44:52SPEAKER_10: So Foreigner gets stuck below the stage sticks.
- 44:54SPEAKER_10: Tommy Shaw reveals too much.
- 44:55SPEAKER_10: Oh, I gotta read that one.
- 44:56SPEAKER_10: Hold on.
- 44:57SPEAKER_10: Um a gig in a convention in Las Vegas where he was making all sorts of rock star poses while wearing leather pants.
- 45:03SPEAKER_10: But then a pregnant woman in the front pointed out to him that his pants had split and he wasn't wearing underwear.
- 45:11SPEAKER_10: Jim Morrison goes missing, then opens with the wrong song, as you would expect.
- 45:16SPEAKER_10: Well, that's Heart Need Two Buckets.
- 45:20SPEAKER_10: I have to read that one.
- 45:22SPEAKER_10: Oh, well, here you go.
- 45:23SPEAKER_10: About of the flu once struck longtime heart guitarist Craig Bartok in the middle of a tour, but rather than cancel the show, singer Ann Wilson said that that can happen only when she gets sick.
- 45:33SPEAKER_10: They worked out a system where Bartok would signal the others to cover for him between songs, either with acoustic numbers or jokes, while he went to vomit into two buckets that were placed off stage for use.
- 45:43SPEAKER_08: I've heard I've heard lots of people doing that.
- 45:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 45:46SPEAKER_10: Uh Judas Priest nearly struck by lightning.
- 45:49SPEAKER_10: Holy hell, Ario Speedwagon actually lived the puppet show story.
- 45:54SPEAKER_10: Uh obviously from Spinal Tap.
- 45:56SPEAKER_10: Do you remember the puppet show story?
- 45:58SPEAKER_08: Oh, yes, yes, okay.
- 46:01SPEAKER_10: Five years after this is Spinal Tap was released, Ario closed out a tour of Mexico by sharing a stage with a ventriloquist act.
- 46:08SPEAKER_10: Worse, frontman Kevin Cronin recalled there was only one dressing room.
- 46:11SPEAKER_10: We're all sitting there going, God, this is BS.
- 46:13SPEAKER_10: What are we doing here?
- 46:14SPEAKER_10: He said, I swear to you, all of a sudden from behind one of our road cases pops the ventriloquist dummy.
- 46:19SPEAKER_10: He goes into Spanish accent, this is BS.
- 46:22SPEAKER_10: This is BS.
- 46:26SPEAKER_10: Ted Nugent once told uh Ultimate Classic Rock that he likes to move his bowels just before he takes the stage.
- 46:32SPEAKER_10: One night in Japan in 79, his road manager didn't realize the guitarist was in the bathroom and started up the tape with Nugent's walk-on stage music and introduction.
- 46:41SPEAKER_10: There's some things in life you can't stop midstream.
- 46:44SPEAKER_10: The light goes the lights go down, the band hits the stage, and I'm nowhere to be found because I'm still in the bathroom.
- 46:51SPEAKER_10: Tom Schultz's Crash Landing.
- 46:53SPEAKER_10: Uh, one of Boston's many tours featured Tom Schultz playing a pipe organ solo on a platform that was raised with hydraulics.
- 47:00SPEAKER_10: After it failed to bring him down one night, he came up with a different method for his next tour that involved grabbing a rope and swinging out over the audience.
- 47:07SPEAKER_10: But the stunt required being in the right place at sh as Schultz neared the stage.
- 47:11SPEAKER_10: If not, he'd crash into a metal structure that kept the organ in the air.
- 47:15SPEAKER_10: Naturally, that that's exactly what happened one night.
- 47:19SPEAKER_08: That would suck.
- 47:21SPEAKER_10: Jeff Rotal's zippers don't work.
- 47:25SPEAKER_10: They failed to rehearse this.
- 47:28SPEAKER_10: I'm trying to skim here.
- 47:29SPEAKER_10: The band walked on stage wearing large rabbit costumes before lining up and unzipping each other to begin the show.
- 47:34SPEAKER_10: But as Frontman Ian Anderson recalled, they failed to rehearse this, and on the tour's opening night in Buffalo, two of the zippers jammed, and the roadies had to use box knives to free the band members.
- 47:46SPEAKER_10: Meatloaf gets a golden shower and a broken nose.
- 47:49SPEAKER_10: I'm just gonna leave that at that.
- 47:51SPEAKER_10: Max Weinberg upsets the boss.
- 47:55SPEAKER_10: So he ticked off Bruce Springsteen.
- 47:59SPEAKER_10: So that's not heard.
- 48:03SPEAKER_10: Springsteen gives it off.
- 48:04SPEAKER_10: Oh, he missed a cue.
- 48:06SPEAKER_10: I was the only one that missed the signal to stop.
- 48:08SPEAKER_10: Mike Portnoy's attempt to show off backfires painfully.
- 48:13SPEAKER_10: Mike Portnoy brought up a painful memory that took place at a dream theater show in Munich in ninety seven.
- 48:18SPEAKER_10: With the main set coming to an end, he decided to show off by playing the fastest drum fill he could manage.
- 48:23SPEAKER_10: But in doing so, he dislocated his wrist and looked down to see it turn blue.
- 48:28SPEAKER_10: He tried to put it back into place by banging it against Tom Tom, but he was unsuccessful.
- 48:34SPEAKER_10: A roadie had to come out and ice up the wrist while Portnoy played the rest of the set, including an encore, one-handed.
- 48:40SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 48:42SPEAKER_10: Head East gets unplugged.
- 48:45SPEAKER_10: Um let's see.
- 48:47SPEAKER_10: As the sign rose as the sign rose above the stage, as Head East were about to play their hit, the plug fell out, according to keyboardist Roger Boyd.
- 48:54SPEAKER_10: They plugged it back in, but that caused Boyd's synthesizer to freak out as it made a weird noise in front of their biggest audience, as well as the label VIPs.
- 49:03SPEAKER_10: Richie Cottson's guitar goes airborne.
- 49:07SPEAKER_10: Oh, that's the last one, so let me read it.
- 49:09SPEAKER_10: One of the most embarrassing things that ever happened to Richie Conson on stage took place in Costa Rica.
- 49:13SPEAKER_10: He was facing his drummer when he decided to spin his guitar around like a hula hoop.
- 49:17SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 49:19SPEAKER_10: I've seen these happen.
- 49:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 49:20SPEAKER_10: But the strap broke, sending the instrument flying into the audience.
- 49:24SPEAKER_10: Cotson didn't bring a spare guitar on that tour, so the gig ended a bit prematurely.
- 49:28SPEAKER_10: The person who caught the guitar did return it, but it was damaged from its flight.
- 49:33SPEAKER_10: I imagine.
- 49:34SPEAKER_10: So these are I mean, those are pretty cool.
- 49:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 49:36SPEAKER_10: Um hilarious real-life rock star spinal tap stories.
- 49:40SPEAKER_10: Um they all pale in comparison, of course, to the actual spinal tap stories.
- 49:45SPEAKER_10: True.
- 49:45SPEAKER_10: True.
- 49:46SPEAKER_10: Um with a pod wouldn't open up.
- 49:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 49:52SPEAKER_10: Classic.
- 49:54SPEAKER_08: Well, it does open up, but it's at the end of the song.
- 49:56SPEAKER_10: At the very end of the song, yes.
- 49:58SPEAKER_10: Um did you um hear from uh cousin Larry?
- 50:05SPEAKER_10: I did.
- 50:06SPEAKER_10: You did, okay.
- 50:07SPEAKER_10: So let's do this because um it's that time.
- 50:12SPEAKER_10: It is that time.
- 50:15SPEAKER_10: I should have I should have this queued up, but I don't.
- 50:18SPEAKER_10: Now I do.
- 50:20SPEAKER_10: Here we go.
- 50:28SPEAKER_10: What is the um the timeline on her getting us like an intro to this?
- 50:33SPEAKER_10: Or do we have to?
- 50:34SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 50:34SPEAKER_08: Do we have an I haven't officially asked her yet, so I'm sure we'll get one that's okay.
- 50:41SPEAKER_08: Uh she says this week is a short explanation because she's getting ready to take her mom to her birthday dinner.
- 50:48SPEAKER_06: So okay.
- 50:58SPEAKER_08: Alright, uh, here we go.
- 51:09SPEAKER_10: What was the question?
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Anyways, so uh that was a great pick.
- 51:46SPEAKER_10: There we go.
- 51:47SPEAKER_10: Which was time of my life was not the Green Day song.
- 51:50SPEAKER_08: No, the Jennifer Warner and the Oh, I've had the time of my life.
- 51:53SPEAKER_08: There we go.
- 51:54SPEAKER_10: That one from dan Dirty Dancing.
- 51:55SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 51:56SPEAKER_10: Okay, that one.
- 51:57SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 51:58SPEAKER_08: So this week was the Something about a shopping cart.
- 52:04SPEAKER_08: Yes, the broken wheel or something.
- 52:07SPEAKER_10: Something like that, yeah.
- 52:08SPEAKER_08: Uh what is the grocery cart with the squeaky wheels theme song?
- 52:14SPEAKER_08: So that's what Cousin Larry said.
- 52:18SPEAKER_08: Ah, well, unlike most other weeks, not too many songs came to mind, so my answer will be short and sweet this week.
- 52:27SPEAKER_08: Plus, I forgot and Doug just reminded me.
- 52:30SPEAKER_08: So I thought about the clashes lost in the supermarket.
- 52:35SPEAKER_08: But the first song that came to mind was Grease by Frankie Valley.
- 52:40SPEAKER_08: Honorable mention to Shut Up by the Black Eyed Peas and Sound of Sound of Silence, the version by Disturbed.
- 52:46SPEAKER_10: So alright, so let's see.
- 52:52SPEAKER_10: Because the wheel needs great grease.
- 52:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, of course.
- 53:03SPEAKER_10: I went in a different direction, but okay.
- 53:05SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 53:20SPEAKER_08: I can tell just because it sounds like a BG song, you know.
- 53:27SPEAKER_09: Alright, what's yours?
- 53:28SPEAKER_08: Well, I figure it's the it that's an annoying thing.
- 53:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 53:32SPEAKER_08: So I went with one of the most annoying songs to me personally.
- 53:36SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 53:37SPEAKER_08: So it's Shiny Happy People by REM.
- 53:46SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 54:02SPEAKER_08: It's an annoying thing on your gochie cart.
- 54:04SPEAKER_08: It's an annoying song.
- 54:08SPEAKER_10: Incidentally, REM doesn't like this song anymore.
- 54:46SPEAKER_10: Alright, yeah, that's annoying.
- 54:47SPEAKER_10: Um I went a different route.
- 54:52SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 54:53SPEAKER_10: Um I and I have two choices, and I I can't decide between them.
- 54:59SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 55:00SPEAKER_10: Um I'm gonna make a decision right now.
- 55:04SPEAKER_10: Um but I'm gonna play my my um honorable mention.
- 55:20SPEAKER_10: It's from it's the music from the Wii.
- 55:27SPEAKER_10: So this is this is only my honorable mention, though.
- 55:31SPEAKER_06: I have no idea.
- 55:34SPEAKER_10: Okay, so that's your honorable mention.
- 55:36SPEAKER_10: The one that I'm actually picking though is that were in a second.
- 55:42SPEAKER_07: This is uh Yeah, it is.
- 56:28SPEAKER_10: So that's my pick.
- 56:30SPEAKER_10: I love it.
- 56:30SPEAKER_10: And your pick was Shiny Happy People from REM.
- 56:33SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 56:34SPEAKER_10: And Grease from uh Frankie Valley was Cousin Larry's pick.
- 56:39SPEAKER_06: Yay!
- 56:39SPEAKER_10: So there you go.
- 56:40SPEAKER_10: Those are our picks for this week.
- 56:42SPEAKER_10: So the future pick.
- 56:43SPEAKER_08: Future question.
- 56:44SPEAKER_08: This is this is kind of a cool one.
- 56:45SPEAKER_08: Okay, we should get some interesting answers off this.
- 56:48SPEAKER_08: What is the most American blue collar, sweating, hard work, quitting time, old truck montage song?
- 56:56SPEAKER_08: Montage song?
- 56:57SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 57:00SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 57:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 57:02SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 57:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's a challenge.
- 57:06SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 57:07SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 57:09SPEAKER_06: Phenomenon.
- 57:13SPEAKER_06: Phenomenon.
- 57:15SPEAKER_06: Phenomenon.
- 57:22SPEAKER_06: Phenomenon.
- 57:28SPEAKER_10: Okay, so um yeah.
- 57:30SPEAKER_10: That uh that presents a challenge.
- 57:32SPEAKER_10: It will be.
- 57:33SPEAKER_08: It'll be interesting, man.
- 57:34SPEAKER_08: I'll tell you what.
- 57:35SPEAKER_08: Can you read it again?
- 57:36SPEAKER_08: Uh what is the most American blue collar, sweating, hard work, quitting time, old truck montage song.
- 57:47SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 57:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: Crazy, man.
- 57:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 57:54SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 57:54SPEAKER_10: Um, we're gonna come back.
- 57:56SPEAKER_10: Are you gonna read or no?

- 59:20SPEAKER_05: Oh, Pandi turn on the bubbles.
- 59:25SPEAKER_10: Now Doug's gonna read from a hard day's right.
- 59:27SPEAKER_10: From Steve Turner.
- 59:28SPEAKER_10: And I'm gonna take out my headphones and pick it out.
- 59:30SPEAKER_08: This is from the magical mystery tour album, Lady Madonna.
- 59:35SPEAKER_05: Lady Madonna.
- 59:37SPEAKER_08: Lady Madonna was the first single to show that the way forward for the Beatles now lay in going back to basic rock and roll.
- 59:45SPEAKER_08: After Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band and Magical Mystery Tour, it was assumed that musical progression would mean more complexity, but the Beatles again defied expectations.
- 59:56SPEAKER_08: The piano line was taken from Johnny Parker's riff off Bad Penny Blues, a 1956 hit in Britain, for jazz trumpeter Humphrey Littleton.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_10: Okay, hold on.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_10: Now that you say that, I want to look it up.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_10: What what was it called again?
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_08: Uh Bad Penny Blues, Johnny Parker.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_10: Johnny Parker's Bad Penny Blues.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_10: Okay, keep reading.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_08: Uh which had been produced by George Martin.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_08: Quote, we asked George how they got the sound on Bad Penny Blues, says Ringo.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_08: George told us that they used brushes, so I used brushes, and we did a track with just brushes and piano, and then we decided we needed an offbeat, so we put in an offbeat.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_08: Littleton didn't mind as he had taken the riff from Dan Burley anyway.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_08: Quote, you can't copy write a rhythm, and rhythm was all they had borrowed, he said.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_08: I was complimented, although none of the Beatles cared for traditional jazz, they all knew and liked Bad Penny Blues because it was a bluesy, skiffy, skiffly thing rather than a trad exercise.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_08: The song was intended by Paul to be a celebration of motherhood, starting with an image of the Virgin Mary and child, but when we moving on to consider all mothers, how do they do it?
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_08: He asked when interviewed by a musician in 1986.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_08: Baby at your breast, how do you get the how do they get the time to feed them?
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_08: Where do they get the money?
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_08: How do you get that thing that women do?
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_08: How do you do this thing that women do?
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_08: American singer Richie Havens remembered being with Paul in a Greenwich Village Club watching Jimi Hendrix perform when a girl asked whether Lady Madonna had been written about America.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_08: No, said Paul.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_08: I was looking through this African magazine, I saw this African lady with a baby, and underneath the picture it said Mountain Madonna.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_08: But I said, oh no, Lady Madonna, and I wrote the song.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_08: Released as a single in March 1968, Lady Madonna went to number one in Britain, but stalled at number four in America.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_10: Okay, so I looked up Johnny Parker, and there's no unless it's yeah, there's Pat Bad Penny Blues, but it's not Johnny Parker.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_10: There's uh Humphrey Littleton.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_10: Uh I'm just curious.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna I'm gonna play it and see if there's any any Oh yeah.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_10: It's just a feel.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_10: That's kind of neat how they get it.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_08: It's that standard boogie-woogie type, you know, piano riff.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_10: Uh alright.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_10: So I have an album.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_10: So we haven't done this in a while, actually.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_10: A couple weeks.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_10: Last week it was BB King.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_10: Let the guessing begin.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_08: Is it a band?
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_10: Cool.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_06: The rock band?
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_08: Height of popularity.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna say 80s.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_08: Rock band.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_08: Soul band.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_08: Rock band.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_08: Rock band.
- 1:03:24unknown: Rock band.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_08: From the eighties.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_08: Like hair metal type.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_10: Um, yeah, I guess they would yeah, they would have been considered hair metal.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they I think they stopped being hair metal in the nineties.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_08: Like a red ultra.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_10: Well, they're still around, so.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_08: They're still around?
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_08: Is it a winger?
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_10: No.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_10: We we talked we talked about them recently.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_10: Like uh couple weeks ago, I think.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_08: Were they uh reasoned extensively?
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_08: Were they reasoned uh no?
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_08: Is it like a Motley Crude Noise.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_08: No.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_10: Where's the trickster from?
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_08: California, I think.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_10: Are they?
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_10: I think I thought they were from somewhere else.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_08: I I th I thought they were from California.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_10: I think there is a tie to Trickster.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_10: But I could be wrong.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_07: Oh, is it uh uh uh uh um no no I'm I'm right.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_10: Trickster's from the same place that this band is from.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_10: Which is I can't tell you that.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_10: Well I could.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_08: What was that with the what was the name of the the twins?
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_08: Ricky Nelson's oh Nelson Nelson, no, it's not Nelson.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_10: Not Nelson.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_10: You want me to tell you where they're from?
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_10: Um Trickster is from Paramis, New Jersey.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_08: Oh, it's Bon Jovi.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_10: It is Bon Jovi.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_10: Uh we talked about them.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_08: That's right, yes, we were talking yeah, because we were talking about the legacy, uh, the the end of the Oh yeah.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_10: So this was the last the last good album.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_10: Last good Bon Jovi album, according to us anyway.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_10: Uh and this is Crush from 2000.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_10: Um and I like almost every song on this album.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_08: It is a good album.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_08: It is a really good album.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_10: And it's and it's it's it it toes the line between classic Bon Jovi and like newer Bon Jovi.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_10: Um if you can get around the first track.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_10: Now I like the first track when it first came out.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_10: I'm I'm Over it now.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_10: Um I mean I still like it.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, but it's overplayed.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_10: But honestly, that is not the best song on the album.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_10: No.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_10: So it's modern.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_10: It still sounds like Bon Jovi.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_10: And then they did the whole Beatles thing.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_10: Do you remember this one?
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_10: Next 100 years.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_10: This was very no, was it this one or Captain Crash?
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, it was this one.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_10: The end of this is very Beatles time.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_10: It's a great song.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_10: Next 400 Years.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_10: I'll show you what I mean.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_10: I think you know what I mean, but I'll show you now.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_10: And then they yeah, they double the speed.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_10: Do you remember One Wild Night?
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_10: Mm-hmm.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_16: It's a hot night made of the rest of the street.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_10: Actually, I like this song better than It's My Life.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_15: We stand in our learning.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_15: Shit out of the skin.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_15: Make our way into the bumping ray.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_15: She gives me the eye.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_15: To give her a light.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_10: It's very there's still a bar band, sort of, in this in this album, you know?
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_10: I mean.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_08: And I think this was the last one for that.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I do too.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_10: Um, I have to say my favorite song on this album, though, and I don't know if it's just because I'm, you know, getting older.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_10: But a song called Just Older.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_10: I love the chorus of this song, and just what the song is about.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_10: Do you know this one?
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_08: Do I remember this one?
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_08: Well, it's your it's your typical reminiscing.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_10: But it's I mean, it hits home.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_12: A little while, a little green.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_12: Been up and down and in between.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_12: All these years in my memories.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_12: I've still cheese in dreams.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_12: But I didn't look in all my shoulders.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_10: Just the words of that chorus.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_10: I mean, it's it's yeah.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_10: It's probably my favorite song on the album.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's a good that's a good like like we both said, I think it's the last really good Bon Jovi album.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_10: Ah, I think.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_10: Because the one that was after this was Have a Nice Day.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and it was basically the same thing.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah, Have a Nice Day was kind of a ripoff of It's My Life.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_10: Or the song.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_10: I mean, and there were a couple good songs on it, but it was all filler.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was very disappointing.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_08: Then I tuned out after that.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and I mean I I did too, even though I own all of their albums.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_10: Um I just as a I'm not a Fairweather fan.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_10: I try and support the band, but it just went downhill.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah, sometimes you're just gonna be like, that sucks, monkey buttons.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_10: It just went downhill after after that one.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_08: So um Well, I mean, you feel like that, like I feel about Lola.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_10: Lola?
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah, the Metallic album with the root loo with the blue read.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_08: I don't even acknowledge it, man.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_10: No.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_08: I'll listen to Sane Anger before I'll listen to Lola.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_10: I don't think anybody listens to Lola.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_10: I don't think Metallic at least.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_10: I don't even think they'd listen to it.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_08: I think they just want to forget about it.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_10: Um I I shouldn't say um everything was downhill.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_10: It just wasn't my cup of tea.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_10: You know, I I just didn't realize it.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they just went in a weird direction.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_08: It was just i they got away from what we liked Bon Jovi for.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_10: I agree.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_10: So I agree.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_10: Alright, so that's the uh Wall O Tunes album of the week, crush.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_06: Bon Jovi Bon Jovi.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_10: Bon Jovi Uh incidentally, Bon Jovi's kid, uh I forgot his name.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_10: Uh his oldest boy, I think it's his oldest boy, uh, married um Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_08: Oh, I did see that.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_10: And I'm actually.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_08: You know what?
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_08: How old is she?
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_08: For some reason I thought she was like really like a kid actor.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_10: Well, I think she's in her early twenties.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_08: Okay, so she's not.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, I think she's young-ish then.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_10: I think when when she started with Stranger Things, I think she was a kid.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_08: Uh but Stranger Things hasn't been around that long, has it?
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_10: Well, no.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_10: Let's see, Millie Bobby Brown is 21.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_10: So she's still young.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_10: She's only 21.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_10: She's 21.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_10: And she married Jake Bon Jovi.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_10: Um I was the reason I bring that up is because I saw the trailer for the new for the last season of Stranger Things.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_10: Have you seen that yet?
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_10: No.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_10: It's pretty cool.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_10: Uh it's it's gonna be.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_08: I haven't seen any of Stranger Things.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_08: Oh, you haven't?
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_08: I don't I I I I know of it, but I've never seen it.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_08: Well, uh we've we have because it's solely on Netflix and I don't have Netflix.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_10: This is true.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_10: So actually I don't think I have Netflix anymore either.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_10: Uh I gotta figure out a way to Can you can you watch that anywhere else?
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_08: I haven't seen it's not on Amazon anywhere.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_10: Really?
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_08: I I mean I've searched extensively.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_10: So well it's it's I didn't expect to get hooked on it, but they they made it in such a way where you have to go from one episode to the next.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_08: That's how I got hooked on Downton Abbey, man.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_08: That's exactly what happened.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_10: And and the new season, the final season, which comes in out in November, which I think they've obviously they've already filmed and it's all ready to go.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_10: Oh, sure.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_10: Looks pretty good.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_10: So I'll be interested to see how they kind of tie up.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah, how they tie up those uh loose hands there.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_10: Uh alright, that's it.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_10: Episode 260 is in the books.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_08: There were something else I was gonna bring up, but it's probably not important.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_10: Because you can't remember it.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_05: I mean, if it was important, I would like, hey, go with this.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_10: Would you say it like that?
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I would.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_05: I'd be like, eh, Britain.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_05: You'd be like, Doug's having a stroke.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_05: We better get into a hospital.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_10: Alright, so that's it.
