- 0:24Well, hello there, everyone.
- 0:27Good day.
- 0:27It is John C.
- 0:28Morley here, Sir Entrepreneur.
- 0:29Great to be with you on the Inspirations
- 0:31for Your Life show.
- 0:32Had a great evening yesterday, Tuesday, May 26th.
- 0:36That was officially the launch of Drain to
- 0:39Driven and my national author and talk and
- 0:46signing.
- 0:47It took place in Franklin Lakes.
- 0:49And I'll be moving around the United States
- 0:51at various different locations and places to share
- 0:55my personal journey.
- 0:56It was a really special night.
- 0:59Guys, if you've been here before, whether it's
- 1:02one time, two times, five or 100, I
- 1:04want to take the opportunity to say thank
- 1:06you and welcome back.
- 1:07If this is your very first time, of
- 1:08course, welcome.
- 1:09Thanks so much for joining me here.
- 1:11If you're thirsty, you're hungry or what have
- 1:13you, feel free to go grab something.
- 1:14I have a delicious cup of hot tea
- 1:16here.
- 1:17And it really hits the spot.
- 1:19It's a lemon tea.
- 1:20All right, guys.
- 1:21So we have a great master topic of
- 1:22the week.
- 1:23We always do.
- 1:24And tonight is another great topic.
- 1:28The granular topic for tonight is understanding what
- 1:32belief is, series five, show 22, episode number
- 1:36five.
- 1:37And if you're wondering how that ties into
- 1:41our week, well, guys, I'm going to tell
- 1:44you.
- 1:45So the master topic for the entire week
- 1:48is belonging drives action.
- 1:54Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 1:56So if you haven't checked out believemeachieve.com,
- 1:58why don't you do that after the show
- 1:59is over?
- 2:00You can get my short form content, you
- 2:02can get my long form content, you can
- 2:03get articles, reels, and so much more.
- 2:06So let's kick this show off, all right?
- 2:09Okay.
- 2:10So once again, everyone, I say welcome to
- 2:12you from the bottom of my heart.
- 2:15It is great, like I said, to be
- 2:17here with you enjoying this delicious cup of
- 2:21lemon tea.
- 2:22You know, there's a moment when everything changes.
- 2:27Not because the world suddenly makes sense, no.
- 2:33Not because the path becomes easier.
- 2:36But because something inside you shifts, you feel
- 2:42it, it's quiet, it's steady, it's real.
- 2:46And that shift is belief.
- 2:50Hey, everyone, I'm John C.
- 2:52Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:57podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 3:01lifelong learner.
- 3:02And now, guys, I'm so grateful to be
- 3:05a published author.
- 3:06And on Inspirations for Your Life, I don't
- 3:09just talk about growth, I don't just share
- 3:11quotes, I live it, I experience it every
- 3:15single day of my life.
- 3:16And I've built companies from nothing, I've stood
- 3:18on stages in front of thousands, I've recorded
- 3:20hundreds of episodes, I've coached people through their
- 3:24darkest moments, and I've learned one truth that
- 3:27changes everything.
- 3:29Are you ready?
- 3:30Belief changes behavior.
- 3:33You can't reach your goals without it.
- 3:35You can't lead without it.
- 3:37You can't even move forward without it.
- 3:39And that's exactly what we're breaking down here
- 3:42together today.
- 3:44This episode is called Understand What Belief Is.
- 3:48Yeah, so let's just dive right in.
- 3:50The core truth, ladies and gentlemen, is this,
- 3:53something I think some people are afraid of.
- 3:56Let me say this clearly.
- 3:58Most people wait for confidence to show up
- 4:00before they will act.
- 4:02They wait until they feel ready.
- 4:05They wait until the path is clear.
- 4:08But that's not how it works, guys.
- 4:10Belief comes first.
- 4:12Belief fuels the action.
- 4:13Belief gives the direction.
- 4:14When you believe something matters, you move toward
- 4:18it.
- 4:19When you don't, you hesitate.
- 4:21When you truly believe, commitment becomes easier.
- 4:25When you doubt, movement slows.
- 4:28So I think that's an important thing to
- 4:30understand.
- 4:31So let me say these truths out loud.
- 4:33These are not just words.
- 4:35These are the foundation of everything we're building
- 4:39here.
- 4:41And that's hard for some people to believe.
- 4:43Belief, guys, changes behavior.
- 4:47It does.
- 4:49Because our perception creates our reality.
- 4:55And if our perception creates our reality, that's
- 4:58what we are drawn to.
- 5:01Number two, guys, people act on what they
- 5:04trust.
- 5:06Somebody trusts you, well, you're going to go
- 5:10far.
- 5:11But the key, guys, is obtaining that trust.
- 5:14That trust does not accumulate overnight.
- 5:18And people get upset when they can't get
- 5:20it right away.
- 5:21I mean, that's the real point, okay?
- 5:23They get upset.
- 5:25Number three, confidence starts with belief.
- 5:27Hey, there's a circle there.
- 5:29So belief's important.
- 5:32We can't get confidence until we have belief.
- 5:36Number four, guys, belief gives us direction.
- 5:40Belief is like the calibration point for our
- 5:44compass.
- 5:45Helping us know which way is north.
- 5:50Number five, what you believe shapes what you
- 5:56do.
- 5:58Let me say that again.
- 5:59What you believe shapes what you do.
- 6:01What you believe shapes what you do.
- 6:03And some people are scared about that because
- 6:06they don't know, like, what's going to happen
- 6:09or where, okay?
- 6:11And I think that's hard for some people
- 6:13to understand.
- 6:17Hard for people to understand that.
- 6:18I really do believe that.
- 6:20It's hard for some people.
- 6:22Sometimes they give up.
- 6:24Number six, people move when they believe it
- 6:27matters.
- 6:28If there's no importance for them or no
- 6:31direct benefit, they're going to stay still.
- 6:35Number seven, trust is the bridge.
- 6:38Yup, it's the bridge.
- 6:40And we have to keep the bridges intact.
- 6:42We don't want to destroy bridges.
- 6:44Even if we don't need them, there's no
- 6:45need to break bridges.
- 6:48Number eight, strong belief lowers hesitation.
- 6:54So when we have a strong belief, our
- 6:56life becomes the life we've always wanted to
- 7:01live, life we were waiting for, the life
- 7:05that we were sitting on the sideline, begging
- 7:09to go into the game.
- 7:20That's important.
- 7:26And I think if we can understand that
- 7:28our life is part of a continuum, a
- 7:31continuum, and we know that where we are
- 7:34happen because of something we did in our
- 7:37life, a thought, a belief, an action.
- 7:41Number nine, guys, belief makes commitment easier.
- 7:47I didn't say that it does it for
- 7:49us.
- 7:49I said that it makes it easier.
- 7:51When we believe something is a certain way,
- 7:53we don't challenge it.
- 7:55We just do it.
- 7:59And I think that's hard for some people.
- 8:02I'm gonna help you, but you can't question
- 8:03me.
- 8:04Well, if you can't question somebody, that's no
- 8:07good.
- 8:07That's like a dictatorship.
- 8:10Number 10, guys, what feels true gets action.
- 8:14What feels true to your core gets the
- 8:16action.
- 8:17Number 11, the strongest groups are built on
- 8:20belief, belief.
- 8:23You know, a three-legged stool has three
- 8:28legs, right?
- 8:30Let's think about the fact that if one
- 8:32of those legs broke, the stool would fall.
- 8:38Let's think of that in our life.
- 8:40We need desire, we need belief, and we
- 8:43need expectancy.
- 8:44If either one of those three things is
- 8:46not present, we fall down.
- 8:51Number 12, belief creates staying power.
- 9:00It keeps us on our track.
- 9:04Number 13, people invest in what they believe
- 9:07in.
- 9:09A lot of times they don't know why
- 9:11they're doing it, but all they know is
- 9:12that they're doing it because of some feeling
- 9:16they get, some feeling.
- 9:19I think that's a very important thing to
- 9:25understand that.
- 9:31Understand that.
- 9:43I think of where we are at the
- 9:48moment.
- 9:50Sometimes people wonder why we can't get further,
- 9:54why we keep butting heads at a certain
- 9:56point.
- 9:57It's because of our belief.
- 9:59It's because we don't think we can get
- 10:01further.
- 10:02And we put barricades in our way.
- 10:05We sabotage ourselves.
- 10:07We don't mean to do it, but we're
- 10:09doing it subconsciously.
- 10:11And they're like, oh, I'm just gonna give
- 10:14up.
- 10:15Number 14, doubt slows movement.
- 10:23Doubt slows movement.
- 10:29That's interesting.
- 10:32Doubt slows movement.
- 10:37When somebody has a doubt, it's like everything
- 10:44they understood becomes challenged.
- 10:47And now it's like they're afraid because nothing
- 10:52is what they expected it to be.
- 10:55And instead of approaching this with a great
- 11:00mindset, instead of turning lemons into lemonade, they
- 11:07just feel the sour lemons.
- 11:14And the doubt slows the action.
- 11:18It causes this chemical imbalance in our brains
- 11:24to say we're inferior.
- 11:26Number 15, guys, belief fuels participation.
- 11:31When we feel good, we wanna do more.
- 11:35We wanna help others.
- 11:36We wanna take part in things.
- 11:41We want to take part in things.
- 11:45I think that's a hard thing for some
- 11:47people to understand, is that we want to
- 11:51take part in things.
- 11:52And if we could take part in something,
- 11:54then we have a celebration moment.
- 12:01And that celebration moment says, wow, this is
- 12:04pretty incredible.
- 12:05This is pretty impressive.
- 12:09But people get turned off because of one
- 12:12thing.
- 12:21It's about an understanding.
- 12:30And I think that's probably something most people
- 12:32don't realize.
- 12:37And they don't realize it because it doesn't
- 12:45seem to be a weight on their shoulder.
- 12:49You know, people take on more weight every
- 12:52day, silently.
- 12:54And they don't seem to stop until they
- 12:57have so much weight on them that they
- 12:59just fall.
- 13:01Oh, what's another pound?
- 13:02What's another pound?
- 13:03Yeah, do that a hundred times.
- 13:05And eventually you won't be able to walk
- 13:08with that big backpack on yourself.
- 13:11Number 16, guys, the inner yes comes first.
- 13:17We have to say yes to ourselves.
- 13:20If we don't, no one can do it
- 13:23for us.
- 13:34We have to say yes to ourself.
- 13:36And we deserve to say yes to ourselves
- 13:39every single day.
- 13:42Every single day, we deserve to say yes
- 13:48to ourselves.
- 13:49I think that's probably one of the most
- 13:52important things, but yet nobody seems to understand.
- 13:58Nobody seems to realize that that thought, that
- 14:03that moment that you had can affect not
- 14:08only your entire day, your week, your month,
- 14:10or your, it can affect whether you become
- 14:13successful or whether you flop.
- 14:18Your mind's tough, okay?
- 14:21But let's face this.
- 14:24It comes down to truth.
- 14:26It comes down to truth.
- 14:31And are we being truthful to ourselves or
- 14:33are we lying to ourselves?
- 14:38That's the question.
- 14:41Are we being true to ourself or are
- 14:42we lying to ourselves?
- 14:49Can you answer that question honestly or no?
- 14:59I mean, ask yourself that question.
- 15:03Number 17, guys, people commit when conviction is
- 15:07clear.
- 15:10When they know that they know that they
- 15:12know, they go all the way.
- 15:15When somebody is like half in, half out,
- 15:23they deplete their energy.
- 15:26They get scared.
- 15:28They lose confidence.
- 15:31Sometimes they don't even start.
- 15:34They might put a foot in and then
- 15:35they immediately pull it out.
- 15:37But sometimes they don't even put even their
- 15:40toe in because they're giving themselves talk in
- 15:47their mind that's negative.
- 15:48We've gotta be careful what we say out
- 15:51loud and what we say to ourself in
- 15:53our mind because that becomes the program that
- 15:56runs our life subconsciously.
- 15:59Even when we're sleeping, it runs our mind
- 16:04and body.
- 16:05Number 18, guys, belief is the engine behind
- 16:09consistency.
- 16:13So John, what really is belief?
- 16:15That's a great question.
- 16:20Belief is knowing that what you're working on
- 16:22that you're doing is gonna work out, that
- 16:29you're going to achieve your goal or your
- 16:31goals.
- 16:32All right, number 20, guys, conviction makes decisions
- 16:39easier.
- 16:41But sometimes getting through to conviction can be
- 16:44very challenging for people, right?
- 16:48Because they're lost, because they're confused.
- 16:52I think when that happens, a lot of
- 16:54people say, well, you know what, I'm not
- 16:56cut out for this.
- 17:00I'm not cut out for this.
- 17:03And because you're not cut out for this,
- 17:06you figure everything is not gonna work for
- 17:08you, everything.
- 17:18And that's about belief, guys.
- 17:21That belief takes you where you're going.
- 17:33Belief takes you where you are going.
- 17:40That's really, really important.
- 17:49I think sometimes we give up before we
- 17:54even get in the car.
- 17:55What do I mean by that?
- 17:57Well, we're gonna go somewhere, we're gonna do
- 17:59something.
- 18:00But before we even get in the car,
- 18:02before we even put our jacket on, before
- 18:04we even get out of our home or
- 18:06get into the garage, we're like, wait a
- 18:08minute, maybe I shouldn't go there.
- 18:11Maybe I shouldn't do that.
- 18:13You second doubt and guess yourself because you're
- 18:15like, ah, it's probably not gonna work.
- 18:18Somebody else told me that's not gonna work.
- 18:19That's hard.
- 18:20And then you put these negative thoughts in
- 18:22your mind.
- 18:23You know what happens?
- 18:24They get amplified.
- 18:27And then they stop you dead in your
- 18:30tracks.
- 18:35At first, it was just something simple that
- 18:37said, you know what?
- 18:39I'm not sure if I can do this.
- 18:41But then you spend time and you harp
- 18:43on it and you make it bigger, bigger,
- 18:44bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, right?
- 18:46What happens with a snowball?
- 18:48Starts really small.
- 18:49What happens when it gets bigger and it
- 18:50rolls and rolls?
- 18:51Gets really big where it can only almost
- 18:53knock somebody down.
- 18:54It can even hurt someone, even kill someone
- 18:56because the momentum, how big the ball will
- 18:58get.
- 18:59That's what you do to yourself.
- 19:02Number 21, guys.
- 19:04Belief turns intention into follow through.
- 19:08Wow, John, that's a lot of words.
- 19:11I know it is.
- 19:13Belief, belief.
- 19:20Belief turns the intention into follow through.
- 19:32Have you ever thought about that?
- 19:34Have you ever thought that your belief is
- 19:38basically, we wanna think of a circuit.
- 19:40Those of you that like electronics.
- 19:43Belief is that piece, that conduit that closes
- 19:49the circuit, right?
- 19:52Maybe it's the broken wire.
- 19:53It's that piece that carries the circuit together.
- 20:01But many people give up before they even
- 20:04try.
- 20:07They look at the whole thing and they're
- 20:08like, oh, there's no way I can do
- 20:09this.
- 20:11They don't realize they can chunk it.
- 20:12They don't realize they can start things in
- 20:14small units.
- 20:14They don't realize any of that.
- 20:18Number 22, you can feel when someone truly
- 20:22believes.
- 20:26When somebody believes in you, and I can
- 20:28share this because I had a moment last
- 20:31night at the author talk and sign in
- 20:32the very first one.
- 20:34I felt the room supported me.
- 20:36I felt the room truly believed in me.
- 20:43And I could tell you how I know.
- 20:46I felt the energy coming back to me
- 20:49from the people.
- 20:50I was not tired being there.
- 20:54I got re-energized by the people's energy.
- 20:58Number 23, guys, belief gives courage a base,
- 21:04a foundation.
- 21:05How can we build a house without a
- 21:07good foundation?
- 21:08We can't, it'll fall apart.
- 21:15And so by having a good foundation, we
- 21:18hope we will think more positive thoughts.
- 21:22See, usually the negative thoughts come in because
- 21:24of something someone says to us, something we
- 21:29see or we hear.
- 21:32And we start second guessing ourselves.
- 21:34Or it happens because we're a little unsure.
- 21:37And then before we get the unsureness cleared
- 21:39up, we just tumble down the hill.
- 21:42And by the time we get down, it's
- 21:44like too hard and too late to get
- 21:46back up the hill.
- 21:49You remember the nursery rhyme, right?
- 21:52Jack and Jill went up the hill both
- 21:54to fetch a pail of water.
- 21:57Jack came down.
- 21:59Jack fell down and broke his crown.
- 22:03And then Jill came tumbling after.
- 22:10Do you fall down?
- 22:13You're broken your crown?
- 22:15Well, seriously, falling down isn't the problem.
- 22:19How many times you fall?
- 22:20I've said this before, it does not matter.
- 22:22It's how many times you get back up.
- 22:23So if you fell four times, you gotta
- 22:25get up four times.
- 22:26If you fell four and you only got
- 22:27up two, that doesn't work, right?
- 22:31If you fall down four times, right?
- 22:35And you got up three times, that's a
- 22:41problem.
- 22:43We need to get up as many times
- 22:45as we fall.
- 22:48We need to shake it off ourselves, right?
- 22:50Number 24, shared belief creates a unique unity.
- 22:55A belongingness, which is what we're talking about
- 22:59all week.
- 23:01Being belong together.
- 23:03Number 25, people don't need perfection.
- 23:06They need conviction.
- 23:10Yeah, I know you're probably lost on that.
- 23:12So I'm gonna go over to our friends
- 23:13at Merriam-Webster and we're gonna look up
- 23:16exactly from them what they say about convictions.
- 23:21I think that might help a little bit.
- 23:24Is what does that mean?
- 23:25So conviction, according to Merriam-Webster, it's a
- 23:27noun.
- 23:28The active process of finding a person guilty
- 23:31of a crime, especially in a court of
- 23:34law.
- 23:35The final judgment entered against the defendant after
- 23:38a finding of being guilty.
- 23:41A strong persuasion or a belief each person
- 23:45honored with an award has stood tall in
- 23:49their convictions and extending a helping hand to
- 23:53own their community to thrive.
- 23:55The act of convincing a person of an
- 23:58error of let's say, compelling the admission of
- 24:02truth, that's a conviction.
- 24:07I think that's something a lot of people
- 24:08stumble on.
- 24:10The act or the process of finding a
- 24:12person guilty.
- 24:15But conviction has positives too.
- 24:20The act of convincing someone that they can
- 24:22do something.
- 24:26As I said, number 25, people don't need
- 24:28perfection.
- 24:28They need conviction.
- 24:31Number 26, belief makes the next step obvious.
- 24:40And when it becomes obvious, people naturally wanna
- 24:42move to that step.
- 24:44Number 27, trust the thing that feels aligned.
- 24:49Something you maybe feel it's a gut feeling,
- 24:52maybe not something you see or hear, but
- 24:54it's just a sense you get and you
- 24:58react to it.
- 24:59Number 28, belief helps people cross the gap,
- 25:04go over the bridge, excel.
- 25:14I think that's a important thing to understand.
- 25:22And when we know that we know, we
- 25:25just feel it a certain way inside.
- 25:30It's not something I can describe to you.
- 25:32It's something you've got to feel internally in
- 25:35your body.
- 25:36Number 29, guys, strong belief is contagious.
- 25:42So being negative is contagious.
- 25:43And so is being positive contagious.
- 25:49Your thoughts, your energy transfer to someone else.
- 25:53I was with somebody the other night and
- 25:55I was telling them about my author talk
- 25:57and signing.
- 25:58And it was somebody that I knew, kind
- 26:00of an acquaintance, but I've known them for
- 26:01a while.
- 26:01And I told them about it and they
- 26:03were looking at a book and their response,
- 26:06I said, you should come.
- 26:06And they're like, oh.
- 26:09And it was like, that was an effort
- 26:13for them.
- 26:17I think when we understand belief and other
- 26:21people don't exhibit it, we know who our
- 26:23true friends are.
- 26:27That's true.
- 26:28Number 30, guys, what people believe together becomes
- 26:35real.
- 26:37So the deep explanation here is this.
- 26:45Let me break it down for you one
- 26:47more time.
- 26:48Belief changes behavior.
- 26:49When you believe something is true, you start
- 26:52acting like it's true.
- 26:54People act on what they trust.
- 26:56Confidence starts to be what they believe.
- 26:59Belief gives direction.
- 27:00What you believe shapes what you do.
- 27:03People move when they believe it matters.
- 27:06Trust is the bridge.
- 27:07Strong belief lowers hesitation.
- 27:09Belief makes commitment easier.
- 27:11What feels true gets action.
- 27:13The strongest groups are built on belief.
- 27:16Belief creates staying power.
- 27:18People invest in what they believe in.
- 27:20Doubt will always slow the movement down.
- 27:23Belief fuels the participation.
- 27:25The inner yes comes first.
- 27:27People commit when conviction is clear.
- 27:30Belief is the engine behind consistency.
- 27:32Trust grows.
- 27:34Belief.
- 27:35Conviction makes decisions easier.
- 27:36Belief turns intention into follow through.
- 27:39You can feel it when someone truly believes.
- 27:41Belief gives courage a base.
- 27:44Shared belief creates unity.
- 27:46People don't need perfection, they need conviction.
- 27:49Belief makes the next step obvious.
- 27:52Trust the thing that feels aligned.
- 27:54Belief helps people cross the gap.
- 27:56Strong belief is contagious.
- 27:58What people believe together becomes real.
- 28:01And that's personal, guys.
- 28:04Very personal.
- 28:07I've been where you are.
- 28:09I've doubted myself when I should have believed.
- 28:12I've waited for the perfect moment that never
- 28:14came.
- 28:15I've held back because I wasn't sure if
- 28:17it would work.
- 28:18And every time I waited for certainty, I
- 28:20lost momentum, I lost entry, and the energy,
- 28:23and I lost time.
- 28:24But every time I chose belief, even when
- 28:26I wasn't sure, something shifted.
- 28:29I started moving, I started committing, I started
- 28:31following through.
- 28:33Belief turns intention to follow through.
