- 5:3716. After they beat Gonzaga 74 to
- 5:4068, they will take on #2 Purdue who beat #7 seed Miami 79 to 69.
- 5:48You guys are crazy when you put this and post this up.
- 5:51I, I think the Sweet 16 has been fun to watch.
- 5:54There's been a lot of blowouts that the game that really stuck
- 5:58out to me because we're here in New York is the St.
- 6:01John's game. The St.
- 6:04John's game really, and, and, and the Nebraska game was very
- 6:08fun. And it, it, it exposed a lot
- 6:10about what Nebraska has done this year and why Nebraska is
- 6:13here and why Nebraska is heading to their first Sweet 16 in in
- 6:17best in their basketball history.
- 6:20Because if you look at Nebraska, Nebraska is known for their
- 6:22football. They're not known for their
- 6:23basketball. But here's the thing, St.
- 6:28John's had a sensational game. They had a sensational game
- 6:33plan. Rick Pitino couldn't get a lot
- 6:35from Dylan Darling all game. He couldn't hit a lick.
- 6:37He missed almost every single shot and he was not confident I
- 6:42as far as getting getting to the basket and shooting in a sweet
- 6:45spot all game long. And at the end of the game, when
- 6:49Pitino needed to call a time out and he was trying to figure out
- 6:52who's going to get the ball, who's going to shoot the final
- 6:54shot. Dilling Darling, who has been a
- 6:57darling for this team all season long, one of the better point
- 7:00guard defenders in the league in the in the in his conference, in
- 7:03East Conference and throughout the NCAA.
- 7:07He was he was a guy that put his hand up and said, coach, give me
- 7:11a chance. I'm I'm, I'm going to take the
- 7:13play. And coach thought Pitino thought
- 7:15that he was out of his mind that he had no shot.
- 7:17And and I, I wouldn't have gone to the non hot hand.
- 7:20But what's crazy about college basket?
- 7:22What's crazy about basketball is when a team doesn't expect the
- 7:26non hot hand to get the ball. You want to give that kid the
- 7:29ball. And Dylan Darling has been good
- 7:32all season long. He's been a good team leader.
- 7:34He is a lefty, usually goes up most of the time with his layups
- 7:39with his left hand. But he drove to the hole and he
- 7:42he had an opening. Nobody was back really defending
- 7:45him on the backside and he went up for a layup and hit the shot
- 7:48and and shot the world. Because Kansas all game long was
- 7:52playing chase. They were playing chase the
- 7:54whole game from the first half all the way into the
- 7:57second-half. Then he went on A164 run.
- 8:00Peterson started playing decent basketball.
- 8:02Was Peterson good? No, Peterson was not a guy that
- 8:06you would expect to be a number one talent, the number one pick
- 8:09in this year's draft after what we saw against Saint John's.
- 8:12Now, that doesn't mean that Dylan that Darren Peterson is
- 8:15not going to be the the number one pick in this year's draft
- 8:19because he has the talent, he has the ability, he can shoot
- 8:22the three. He can do a lot of those things
- 8:25that you want an elite player to do as your number one pick.
- 8:29But after what AG Tabanza did, even though they got knocked
- 8:32out, BYU got knocked out in the first round.
- 8:34He played very well in that game, even though we couldn't
- 8:36hit a lick at the three-point line.
- 8:39And then Camp Boozer, he's been up and down in this tournament,
- 8:42but guess what? Duke is still going to the Sweet
- 8:4416 and one of the main reasons why they're going to the Sweet
- 8:4716 is because of camp Boozer. Now it all takes.
- 8:51You need a team to take you all the way to the championship, to
- 8:54the promised land. We all know that.
- 8:56But guess what? Who was the number one pick last
- 8:58year? Cooper flag.
- 8:59Cooper Flegg played as well as I'll say this, Cooper Flegg was
- 9:05a little bit better in certain in in the round, in the round of
- 9:08what was it 64 and 32, He played better than Kambusa.
- 9:14What what's going to sell us Kambusa?
- 9:16What's going to make Kambusa a top end pick, maybe the number
- 9:20one pick in this class is he's going to have to show up in
- 9:22these big games. He's got Saint John's, he's
- 9:24going to have to show up in that game.
- 9:25He's going to have to put up a 25 spot.
- 9:28He's going to have to rebound. He's got to be a big player in
- 9:31that game if they expect to be Pitino's team.
- 9:33Pitino came out and said after the game, pretty much said we're
- 9:37going, we're playing Duke now and I don't want, we're going
- 9:40to. I owe, I owe, I owe him
- 9:43something after what Christian Leitner did to me in the 90s.
- 9:47Now, I don't know if anybody remembers in Kentucky, Pitino
- 9:50was coaching Kentucky. He was coaching the Wildcats and
- 9:55Coach K was coaching the Duke Blue Devils.
- 9:57And this was the time where you had Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill,
- 10:02and and obviously Christian Leitner, who is one of the
- 10:04greatest college basketball players of all time.
- 10:07And you heard what Pitino said at the press conference.
- 10:09He says, well, I've got, I've got, I owe them.
- 10:12I owe them a favor and and that to me says a lot about this game
- 10:16for St. John's.
- 10:17Now, a lot of the experts have St.
- 10:19John's knocking off the Duke Blue Devils.
- 10:22A lot of them do. But Duke to me from top to
- 10:27bottom, even with the injuries that they have, have the talent,
- 10:32they have the number one guy. And if you're going to, you're
- 10:35going to counteract what the Saint, what the Saint John Storm
- 10:38have compared to the Duke Blue Devils.
- 10:41If if their top five plays against a Duke top five, I still
- 10:44think Duke is the they have the advantage in this game.
- 10:49But to go back, go ahead. I know you.
- 10:51You got something. To say no, terrible.
- 10:53That was terrible. No, no way.
- 10:55They have a better top five than St.
- 10:56John's. Yes they do.
- 10:58Wow, Based off what school? What?
- 10:59Do you mean based on school? Like what are you just Duke
- 11:03Heavy or Duke Privy, you know, Duke Bias?
- 11:05I'm not. I'm not Duke bias at all, and I
- 11:08am a Duke fan, but that has nothing to do with bias.
- 11:10You're going to tell me you're going to tell.
- 11:12Me. So you're going to tell me right
- 11:14now that the Duke Blue Devils with their lives?
- 11:16As of right now, As of right now.
- 11:19As of right now, As of right now, you're going to tell me
- 11:22Saint John's has a better five than Duke does?
- 11:25This is the reason why the all the all the experts are picking
- 11:27St. John's.
- 11:28I don't care what the expert. Experts are always.
- 11:30Wrong. I'm an expert too that.
- 11:31Oh, yeah, you're an expert. Mel Kiper's an expert, too.
- 11:34How many times has he got him wrong on the as far as the NFL
- 11:36draft? So let's not get into what Mel.
- 11:39Kiper has done. All right, so So give me your
- 11:42take. What makes you think that the
- 11:45Saint John's or the Johnnies have a better starting five than
- 11:49the Duke Blue Devils? Just based off the tournament
- 11:52play now we looked at it and we've seen that they that the
- 11:56Duke Blue Devils are very stagnant on offense.
- 11:59They have potential to be scores or whatnot, but I think from St.
- 12:03John's perspective, they're way more athletic in regards to the
- 12:07half court sets. They're more athletic and able
- 12:10to actually rebound the ball better than Duke.
- 12:13Now stats may not say that I'm talking about in game.
- 12:17I didn't check the stats by the way.
- 12:18So that's why I don't know if I'm actually wrong about the
- 12:21rebounding, but based off the rebounding which is the reason
- 12:23why they St. John's was able to beat Kansas
- 12:27was their rebounding. If you go back and look at the
- 12:30game. Here's the thing.
- 12:32And I you could go back and and, and St.
- 12:34John's is a big team. They're older roster.
- 12:37Pitino is a great coach, but, and I'm not a big Shire fan.
- 12:42As a matter of fact, anybody that knows me, I have attacked
- 12:44Shire over and over and over again week after week.
- 12:47I don't think John Shire's a really good coach, but he's got
- 12:50a great roster. Even with the injuries that they
- 12:52have, the Duke Blue Devils have the best player in this game.
- 12:56Cam Boozer is by far the best player in this game and you
- 12:59can't even argue. What?
- 13:00What do you mean out of out of rebounding?
- 13:03How are you doing? Yes, out of St.
- 13:05John's. I give you that, Yeah.
- 13:07Talent wise, he also went off the rail while ago and said he
- 13:11was the number one pick, so which is another.
- 13:13Oh, hold on one second, hold on one second.
- 13:15How do you know he's not the number one pick?
- 13:17Oh, here's the thing. And I, we could get into that at
- 13:19another time because we got to go through these games.
- 13:21But for you to say that Cambusa can't be the number one pick,
- 13:25that's fine. If you if everybody thinks that
- 13:27he's the 3rd or 4th pick, that's fine.
- 13:29You're going to make a mistake. Because if you, it's very
- 13:32simple. Peterson can't be controlled.
- 13:34AJ Debansa can't shoot a three pointer and we've seen Camp
- 13:38Boozer do all of that. He doesn't.
- 13:40He doesn't go out there and throw his team under the bus.
- 13:42He plays hard every single game no matter what.
- 13:45He plays hurt. He goes out there and he plays
- 13:47at a top level. That's the guy I want to draft.
- 13:50I want to go. I want to go with a guy that I
- 13:52know is going to be healthy. He's going to go out there and
- 13:54play his heart out like his father did.
- 13:56Now, I'm not saying he's Carlos Boozer.
- 13:59What you're you're you're not in GM They so it's it's it's.
- 14:04A bias? So what I'm?
- 14:05Trying to tell you is that they're the NBA is not picking
- 14:08based off reliability, they're picking up potential, OK.
- 14:12Does he have the potential to be XYZ?
- 14:16Does he meet the metrics of XYZ? So you're saying that he need to
- 14:19develop a three portion agent need to develop a three.
- 14:22That can happen. They can do that.
- 14:23You know they pay coaches to develop players in the NBA.
- 14:26Yeah. Quite so he could very much
- 14:28develop that. They don't have to come in with
- 14:31that. OK, so Kwame Brown remember him?
- 14:34Yes, I remember him. He was a great athlete and high
- 14:37school phenomenon. He didn't have a three-point
- 14:40shot and Michael Jordan drafted him, took a whim on him and
- 14:43said, yeah, you know what, I like him.
- 14:45I I think he I can, I can build my roster around him.
- 14:47I can build. He'll figure it out.
- 14:48He'll figure out a shoot a three.
- 14:50How long was he in the NBA? How long was he in with the NBA
- 14:54team? Short term compared to what he
- 14:56was supposed to be. Exactly.
- 14:58And and to me, you need to develop a three-point shot
- 15:01before you get into the NBA. It's very hard to figure it out
- 15:04when you're playing in an NBA. Pace, the speed of the game,
- 15:07it's different. And we have seen him enough and
- 15:11I've watched him enough and AJ Dabanza that he is going to have
- 15:15a problem shooting the three in the NBA.
- 15:16He's going to he's going to work on athletic ability and that
- 15:19doesn't always work. Now there is guys like Giannis
- 15:22that have built his game on athletic ability, but the game
- 15:26is changing. Now these big men are shooting
- 15:28the three at a very high clip. And if you don't have that shot
- 15:33and you haven't developed a shot yet going into the NBA, what
- 15:37makes you think in a 5 or 6 year span he's just going to be a
- 15:41good three-point shooter shooter in the NBAI just.
- 15:44Would you take Giannis? Would you take Giannis as the
- 15:46number one pick? Right now.
- 15:49Yeah, what you with Giannis talent?
- 15:51No. What are you laughing at?
- 15:56No, what are you laughing at? No.
- 16:00Listen, listen, listen. Listen.
- 16:02Giannis. There's a lot of Giannis now.
- 16:04That's why. I'm saying that.
- 16:05There are a lot of Giannis now, athletically gifted guys that
- 16:08are long. There are guys.
- 16:10What do you mean who? Nikola Yokich?
- 16:12Nikola Yokich? Webbiyama.
- 16:14What are you talking about? Webbiyama, He's another one.
- 16:17These these guys are athletically gifted.
- 16:20How are they different? How are they different?
- 16:22They're both big men, right? Stop plays.
- 16:24Giannis is downhill, Webby is. He's working on being a
- 16:29three-point shooter and a defender.
- 16:30Working, he has a three-point shot.
- 16:32As a as a pass first but can't score center.
- 16:35And shoots the three almost at 40%.
- 16:38Yeah, but they play at, Again, we're looking at athletically
- 16:42gifted players. Kevin Garnett was athletically
- 16:45gifted when he came out of high school.
- 16:46Absolutely. OK.
- 16:48And if you want to compare the Banza to somebody, you would
- 16:51compare him and I would compare him somewhere around Kevin
- 16:54Garnett. That's the kind of player that I
- 16:57would compare him to. But here's the thing, Kevin
- 16:59Garnett's strength was his defense.
- 17:01Is the bands strength his defense?
- 17:03No. And in a game, in the NBA, in
- 17:06the transition of the NBA game, if you can't defend a specific
- 17:09position and you can't shoot the three, you're limited.
- 17:13And that's what AJ Dabanza is. I'm not saying AJ Dabanza is not
- 17:16going to be a great player in the league.
- 17:18I think he's going to be great. I think Peterson's going to be
- 17:20great. I think Wilson's going to be
- 17:22great. I think Cam Boozer's going to be
- 17:25great. All four of these guys, even
- 17:28Flemings, if he get, if he gets put or he gets drafted by the
- 17:31right team and the right coach and the right development,
- 17:34Fleming develops a shot. No question.
- 17:37That kid could be a star in a league just like the Spider is.
- 17:40Right. So you give him development, but
- 17:42you won't give AJ development. It's very hard to develop a
- 17:45three-point shot at his size in the NBA when one.
- 17:50Offseason away What? Do you mean 1 offseason?
- 17:53111 development. He don't have to be great at the
- 17:56three-point shooter. Now you do.
- 17:58Now you do. No, you do.
- 18:00Yes, because if you become one-dimensional, teams are going
- 18:03to figure. You out, Giannis won the
- 18:04championship. Here's Here's the problem with
- 18:06Giannis when teams started to figure him out like the Celtics.
- 18:09Win. Like yeah, team started with
- 18:12Miami. Yes.
- 18:13When you become a one-dimensional player when it
- 18:16comes to the big game, especially throughout the
- 18:19playoffs, you're not the same player.
- 18:22OK, now tell me how many defenders we have in the league.
- 18:25How many defenders? I don't know.
- 18:26You want me to count them? Yeah.
- 18:27I can't count them on the head. I.
- 18:29I not a lot of people defending. The Knicks have about 3 guys on
- 18:32the team that could defend multiple positions.
- 18:35Josh Hart. Mikhail Bridges, OJ and an Obi,
- 18:40Those three guys could defend multiple positions.
- 18:42OB I give you. What are you you're going to
- 18:44tell me Mikhail Bridges is not an all around defender?
- 18:48He's a great defender. He could defend multiple
- 18:51positions. He's a good defender.
- 18:53I would say he's a top 15 defender in the league.
- 18:57That tells you a lot. That's what I'm trying to tell.
- 18:58You, but that's what I'm telling you about it, AJ Dependzo.
- 19:01So you, you need AJ, you said AJ needed to defend.
- 19:05I'm. Saying I'm saying if you don't
- 19:07have it, he still gets his numbers.
- 19:09Why are? All that matters.
- 19:11My argument here is when teams, especially NBA coaches, figure
- 19:16out his strengths and his weaknesses, they're going to
- 19:20take the game over against him. They're going to defend him in
- 19:23ways where he is uncomfortable in certain positions.
- 19:27He is a athletically gifted kid. There's no question that he is.
- 19:30So are half these NBA players. But when you come into the NBA
- 19:34with the best of the best guys that can jump like a deer and
- 19:38kangaroo, whatever the hell you want, and I can run up and down
- 19:41the court within 7 or 8 steps, there are guys.
- 19:44Russell Westbrook, I mean, when he was a young player, he was
- 19:47one of the fastest guys in the NBA.
- 19:50They're athletically gifted. But did I make Russell Westbrook
- 19:53the best player in the NBA at his position?
- 19:55No, it didn't. Now that's what I'm looking at.
- 19:59You look at Camp Boozer, you're looking at Camp Boozer and
- 20:02everybody looking out Camp Boozer, they say, well, he's a
- 20:05little overweight. He's 6 foot 8.
- 20:06He's undersized. How does this work?
- 20:10Depending on where he goes, it works a lot.
- 20:12You're telling me right now if he went to?
- 20:14Indiana and he played with Halliburton.
- 20:17If he went, If he goes, he's Utah's not drafting him.
- 20:21Utah's not drafting. They're already.
- 20:24They're already. Taking.
- 20:25Danny Ainge always drafts the athletically guys, the athletic
- 20:28guys. He always does plus.
- 20:30The NBA is going to punish them for.
- 20:31Taking if if Utah goes #1 Utah's drafting to Bansa.
- 20:36Why not booze it though? Because he's not according.
- 20:38To you, yes he is. The better all around talent he
- 20:42does he's got the better I think.
- 20:43He's got you saying that they not saying.
- 20:46First of all, who do you think has a better post game, him or
- 20:48Debanza? Post game.
- 20:51Post game. I don't get booze it that.
- 20:54OK, who's got a better 1718 foot jumper?
- 20:58I get AJ that. AJ does not have a better 17. 18
- 21:01foot jumper. He doesn't.
- 21:03He doesn't. He, he, he, he's not.
- 21:06That's not his go to. But that's not his.
- 21:08That's not his game. That's Boozer's game.
- 21:10Yeah, Floater, you know. Yeah, well, that's.
- 21:12He uses his again, that goes back to athletic gifts.
- 21:17To me, Peterson has the most. That got to be considered.
- 21:19Are we not going to consider athletic gifts?
- 21:22No. Because that's one.
- 21:23Gift. That's one gift.
- 21:25That's not everything. You're going to tell me who's a
- 21:28better defender, Boozer and Dubanza.
- 21:31Better defender. Better defender?
- 21:33Boozer Debanza, I'm asking, I'm asking.
- 21:38It was a one O 1. I'll take AJ over there.
- 21:41So wait a second, So. You're going to tell me that?
- 21:44Has nothing. One O 1 doesn't mean anything.
- 21:46It's 10 basketball. Q This isn't football.
- 21:50You're not out there. Come on.
- 21:52Q And I just want to send a double to you on every time.
- 21:54What are we talking about? They haven't earned that right.
- 21:56Q If you're going to tell me right now, when you look at all
- 21:59these guys gifts, Peterson has the most.
- 22:01Peterson has the most. But is teams going to teams are
- 22:05teams are going to actually have to deal with that kid on and off
- 22:08the court. He doesn't get along with
- 22:09people. He he's proven that he didn't
- 22:11get along with some of his teammates coaching at the
- 22:13coaching staff. How many times did we we hear
- 22:16that the coaching staff wanted him to go into the game and he
- 22:19says there's no need for me to go into the game.
- 22:21Is he going to do that into the NBA?
- 22:22Is he going to do that in the NBA?
- 22:24No, he wouldn't do that in the NBA.
- 22:26Why not? There's a reason to play.
- 22:27He thinks he's the best player on that roster.
- 22:30Right when you get paid to play, all right.
- 22:32So you're telling me, So you're telling. 2nd, 2nd.
- 22:35It's a job in the profession, so you can't walk out and think
- 22:38that you're better than everybody now.
- 22:40James Harden did. You wouldn't have no data.
- 22:42James Harden did. James Harden also averaged 54 a
- 22:45month. 50. Four a month.
- 22:49When James Harden When James. Harden.
- 22:53When James Harden came into the League, he was the he wasn't
- 22:57even Batman or Robin. He was like Supergirl, OK, he
- 23:01was Supergirl, he was Supergirl, but he thought he was the number
- 23:04one guy. He said I was a number one guy.
- 23:07No, he didn't. He was a six man.
- 23:09He didn't prove it until he went to Houston and it took him a
- 23:12year to prove it. OK, but at the time, At the
- 23:15time, but again, but James Harden had a great shot.
- 23:20He played for Arizona State. James Harden was a good shooter.
- 23:25Yes. Dabanza is not.
- 23:27He's not a good shooter. He's not.
- 23:29I'm not saying he is. I, I, I think he gets his
- 23:32numbers. He gets his.
- 23:32Points. That's fine.
- 23:33Because he's playing even though the game has developed.
- 23:38Conference. Did he play?
- 23:39A good shooter. OK, how?
- 23:42How good is the big? The best conference this year
- 23:44for sure. OK, And who did he play that
- 23:46they beat? That was so so something to brag
- 23:50about. Who did he?
- 23:51Beat Iowa State was his biggest performance and they are a good
- 23:53team. They're still in the tournament.
- 23:54They're a two seed right now. They're one of the best
- 23:56defensive teams. And what did he score in that
- 23:57game? I believe it was 42 if I
- 23:59remember correctly, and he had close to 10 rebounds in that
- 24:02game, which against a defense that good, is impressive.
- 24:05So because of one game, Iowa State, because of one game?
- 24:11No, because of one game. And Iowa State, that's that's,
- 24:16that's impressive. Because of one game.
- 24:19Here's here's here's what's even more impressive.
- 24:21Versus the 2 seeds. You're you're that great of a
- 24:24player and, and great players find ways to win, like LeBron
- 24:27James took at the Cavaliers all the way to the Finals against
- 24:30the Spurs. Did he take his team to the next
- 24:32round? Did he take his team to the
- 24:34round of 32? No, he didn't.
- 24:36It doesn't matter. What do you mean it doesn't
- 24:37matter? It means a lot.
- 24:38If you lose in the fighters or you lose in the first round.
- 24:41Well, I remember when Fish came on the show quite a few times
- 24:44and I want to get into these games first because I we could
- 24:47talk about this all show, but Fish came on this show.
- 24:51Fish has been on the show, you know, me and him have been
- 24:53arguing about this take. And he said Carlos Boozer
- 24:57because of his his game and in the way he's played in the round
- 25:01of 64, right, and the round of 32 that he might hurt himself
- 25:06when it comes to the draft. And I said, how do you figure?
- 25:09Cam Boozer right now to me is player of the year.
- 25:12Cam Boozer was the best all around player in all of college
- 25:16basketball all season long. When you look at what he has
- 25:19done, when you look at the pie, there's a pizza.
- 25:22How many slices are in a pie? There's 8, OK, not one game,
- 25:27Iowa State where everybody says, oh, he scored 42 and dead.
- 25:30Very impressive. Cam Boozer was doing it all year
- 25:34round against great. 42 and 10 all year in Earth.
- 25:37He no, I'm saying he's if you're going to tell me right now Cam
- 25:40Boozer wasn't a better player than AJ Debanter all season
- 25:42long, then you weren't watching college basketball.
- 25:44Because he walks. He walks.
- 25:47What makes a Shire's system? John Shire as I could have
- 25:50assisted. You're going to tell me that
- 25:51John Shire's system is better? Is that what you're trying to
- 25:55say? Because it's not.
- 25:56You said it's a better system. It's not a better system.
- 25:58It's not a good system, even if it's a little better than BYU's
- 26:01coach, which it probably is, but not by much.
- 26:04Thank you. That's it's better.
- 26:05It's not better, it's better. It doesn't matter if it's a by
- 26:08inch or a mile, it's better. It's better, correct?
- 26:10It's not better and and. You don't think Duke is in a has
- 26:13a better system? Than no, I don't.
- 26:15No, I don't. I think.
- 26:16I think Duke has better talent. That's what I think.
- 26:20It's only ran by a system over. There no, it's talent.
- 26:24They're recruiting class. They're no, no, no, no, no come.
- 26:28On OK, come on, tell me. Where's John Shire ranked among
- 26:31your best coaches in college? The fact that they had John
- 26:33Shire, a top five coach in college basketball going into
- 26:36this tournament made me want to throw up.
- 26:39OK, because he's not. He's not.
- 26:42He really isn't. And you're going to tell me
- 26:44right now it's the system. OK, So you're going to tell me
- 26:47that John Shire, there is recruiting class this year,
- 26:50which three of the top three of the five top guys that he had
- 26:55that he recruited, I think they were top 10 or top 12 players in
- 27:00the whole country. And you're going to tell me it's
- 27:02the system that has drawn these guys out to be a good team.
- 27:06It's not. It's talent.
- 27:07Talent wins ball games, does it not?
- 27:09And if you're if you go. To but this is the whole point
- 27:13about March Madness is because you're sometimes your talent
- 27:17isn't enough. Indicated by a lot.
- 27:19Of coach that got the right system and you can position
- 27:21players to be successful, then you can win a you actually wear
- 27:25games. OK.
- 27:26You know any sport? You know, Q and I got a comment
- 27:29what you said, Errol, because you mentioned my comments on
- 27:31about Boozer and I love Boozer too, and I'm pretty sure he's
- 27:34going to win National Player of the year.
- 27:35He is the National Player of the Year.
- 27:37But so is Tyler Hansborough Once Upon a time, and he didn't have
- 27:40an NBA career and he plays the same position.
- 27:42Tyler Hansborough wasn't a top prospect coming out going into
- 27:46college. Why?
- 27:46Wasn't he? So he he was a lottery pick.
- 27:49He wasn't like a North. Carolina, he was.
- 27:52North Carolina. I remember Tyler Hansborough.
- 27:54I remember when he he went to the national championship.
- 27:57I remember Tyler and and Tyler was nowhere close to the talent
- 28:01Cambuser was coming out of kind of coming out of high school,
- 28:04winning national state championships, being one of the
- 28:07most renowned players, being that his father is Carlos
- 28:11Booster. By the way, you mentioned Carlos
- 28:13Boozer before we came into the show.
- 28:14Q We've argued this, he's a way better player than Carlos Boozer
- 28:18was in college. That's.
- 28:21Hot Carlos. He tries to play like that
- 28:24though, you know, And against Sienna.
- 28:26Against Sienna. We're going to.
- 28:29Go into accolades. We're going into one game.
- 28:31We're going into one game. It was around the 64 that I was
- 28:35talking about because, I mean, they obviously dominated the
- 28:37next game, but Boozer had a couple of moments in that game
- 28:41that were like Ben Simmons, esque as he was.
- 28:44So does Luca, so does the NC. AA tournaments.
- 28:48So does I like like 2 out of 3 possessions down court where it
- 28:51was like what's going on with this guy?
- 28:53That's weird. Luca that's.
- 28:55What I'm just saying. You watch.
- 28:56You watch professional basketball.
- 28:59Jalen Bronson doesn't look against teams.
- 29:01Certain teams, he doesn't play well against them.
- 29:03The Celtics are one of those teams that play very well, play
- 29:07very well. Hold on, let me, let me, let me
- 29:09finish what I have to say. Let me finish what I have to
- 29:11say. You mention that what Sienna did
- 29:14to Cambuser was incredible. That's great.
- 29:17Cambuser still scored 24 points, he still averaged 13 rebounds,
- 29:21and he still hit 8 free throws at the tail end of the game to
- 29:25help his team win. So no matter what they did to
- 29:27him, he was a big part of the reason why they won that game.
- 29:31Now you mention what they did against him, that's fine.
- 29:34So let's go through all these different teams that some of
- 29:37these great players have played against.
- 29:38LeBron James has always had problems against the San Antonio
- 29:41Spurs. Go look at his numbers.
- 29:43He never played well against Greg Popovich's teams.
- 29:45Why? Because Greg Popovich had a good
- 29:48game plan on that, good game plan on him.
- 29:51And the same thing I would say about Sienna.
- 29:53You watch tape, you watch the way he plays, you're going to
- 29:56defend him on his strengths and try to beat him on his
- 29:59weaknesses. Now he is only going to develop
- 30:01that game part of his game because he already has a shot.
- 30:04He could still shoot a three-point shot, which he hit a
- 30:07a few of them in this tournament tournament and he could still
- 30:10shoot those 1817 and post game and dominate on the boards,
- 30:14which he's done in this tournament.
- 30:16So to sit here and I, this is what I hate about the the press
- 30:21in the media, Everybody goes back and forth.
- 30:23Well, he doesn't have the athletic gifts that Peterson
- 30:26has. He doesn't have the athletic
- 30:28gifts that the Banza has. Well, guess what?
- 30:31You could be the most athletically gifted player.
- 30:33Who's the best player in the NBA right now?
- 30:36Nicola Yokich. Is he the most athletic player
- 30:39in the NBA? Please.
- 30:41He's probably the least athletic player in the NBA.
- 30:43He's the best passer. He's one of the best shooters.
- 30:46He's 1 of this. He's one of that.
- 30:47He's that. So to sit here and tell me.
- 30:52But here's the thing, He's in a system that allows that.
- 30:56You put Nicola Yokich and on the Utah Jazz.
- 30:59Is he doing the same numbers? No, but it doesn't mean he's.
- 31:02Individual, no, wait, hold on, hold on one second.
- 31:05Hold on one second. Hold on one second, hold on one
- 31:07second. So what did you say?
- 31:08What was that question? If you put Nicola Yokies at the
- 31:12Utah Jazz or the Washington Wizards, OK, does he have the
- 31:16same number? Absolutely.
- 31:18Absolutely. No way.
- 31:20Absolutely, Absolutely. Alright, alright, I'm gonna tell
- 31:24you why. Missing shots.
- 31:25I'm gonna tell you why. Exposed at a high level.
- 31:27I'm gonna tell you why they. Have Eric Gordon and they have
- 31:30that system around him. Benefits.
- 31:33OK, OK, so let me let me give you some throws that you don't
- 31:38maybe you don't watch when when I watch the Nuggets play, I have
- 31:41watched him play without Jamal Murray.
- 31:44I've seen him many, many times play without Porter and Aaron
- 31:47Gordon, all these guys, and he's still putting up a triple
- 31:50double. So you're going to tell me right
- 31:51now if you went to Utah where he's going to get more shots,
- 31:54more passes, more rebounds, he's not going to have a better a
- 31:59better number chart. Those those things don't happen
- 32:02like that no more. What are you?
- 32:03Talking about it happens all the time.
- 32:05Around you, you don't have Jamal Murray, you don't have Gordon,
- 32:09you don't have these things. They're attributes.
- 32:11So can he do it when they're the guys get hurt or they step
- 32:15outside of a game? Yes, absolutely.
- 32:17That's what he's a superstar. So yes, he can do that.
- 32:19He can have a game or two. You just said it.
- 32:22Could he do it in the? System.
- 32:24So you're telling me, who is Jamal Murray on the Washington
- 32:28Wizards right now? What do you what do you mean?
- 32:31Who is Jamal Murray? On what talent, What level of
- 32:33talent do we have on the Washington Wizards right now?
- 32:36What talent I. Mean, I guess it's, you know.
- 32:38Anybody Trey, Yon, Davis, I mean Davis, OK, they they have, they
- 32:45have some good talent. They're just not playing this
- 32:47year because they want a high draft pick.
- 32:49But they Got Talent. The other *.
- 32:52Got it. So who do you beat that they
- 32:53could beat if they didn't want a high draft pick?
- 32:56If they get, if they get one, if they get Cam Boozer or AJ the
- 33:01Banzer, you're talking about the Wizards.
- 33:04You asked me. You're asking me if they got one
- 33:06of these three guys, could they win?
- 33:08Could they automatically be a playoff team?
- 33:10Absolutely, 100%, a hundred percent, 100%.
- 33:15If if they get one of these three guys, they're
- 33:17automatically a playoff team. Based off what metric?
- 33:21What metric? Davis is a good all around big
- 33:24man. He is if he stays healthy.
- 33:26Anthony Davis is a good player, yeah.
- 33:28He's going to give you 20 and 10 and Trey Young is going to give
- 33:31you 23 and probably 8 assists and seven rebounds with that
- 33:37team. And you have to.
- 33:38Who fits better for the Wizards? Who fits better?
- 33:40Who fits better for the Wizards? Who fits better for the Wizards?
- 33:45I would. I would think AJ Dabanza would
- 33:47fit better with the Wizards. With the Wizards, yeah, I do.
- 33:51I'll tell you. Do you want me Because Trey
- 33:52Young is a three-point shooter, Anthony Davis is a rebounder.
- 33:56He's a perimeter guy that goes in and you need an athletically
- 33:59got an athletic guy that you can you can put him on the three,
- 34:02you can put him on the four. You can move him around because
- 34:04he's so athletic. He could do a lot of things
- 34:06around the perimeter that you want a star to do and and and be
- 34:10a good rebounder, which he's a good rebounder.
- 34:12Him and Anthony Davis would be dominant under the basket.
- 34:16So I would think the Banzer would fit better with the
- 34:18Wizards. I with Boozer, Boozer fits
- 34:22better with a lot of teams. He would fit very well.
- 34:26And I'm I'm being serious. If if you look at Indiana,
- 34:29they're they're and he would fit very well with them.
- 34:31The Pelicans. He would fit very well over
- 34:33there too. No, why not?
- 34:36He would fit well with Indiana for sure.
- 34:37Pelicans. No.
- 34:38Why not? It's.
- 34:39A graveyard site. Why not?
- 34:40It's a graveyard site, him and Zion.
- 34:45Zion will. They'll trade Zion.
- 34:48They were trade Zion. They're going to trade Zion.
- 34:50Franchise Player. They're going to trade him.
- 34:53They they tried to trade him last year, they tried to trade
- 34:57him last year. They're going to move him.
- 34:59Well, until we see different, then we got to go.
- 35:01They're going to move him for a point guard, they're going to
- 35:03bring a point guard in that's going to be able to play with
- 35:06Cam. And if not, what they'll do,
- 35:08especially if Kaden goes into the draft this year, he'll be a
- 35:12second round draft pick. They'll just draft his brother.
- 35:14That's what they'll do. That's what the Pelicans are
- 35:17going to do if whoever drafts Cam Boozer and if Kaden goes
- 35:20into the draft, he's not a first round talent.
- 35:22Whoever drafts Cam is drafting Kaden.
- 35:25If he goes into this year's draft, you could book it that
- 35:29there's no doubt in my mind that's the route they're going.
- 35:33To go the inside is that they wore 2 ends on the team on the
- 35:37roster. I just I'm telling you that's
- 35:39what's. Going to happen just the same
- 35:41for all all all teams. Well, I want to go through the
- 35:44tournament. I, I, we, we made an argument.
- 35:46I want to go through these games because that's why we're here.
- 35:48And the St. John's game, the St.
- 35:50John's game was Dylan darling was the darling.
- 35:53And he's really been the darling of this team all season long.
- 35:56He's been the backbone of this team.
- 35:57You saw when he hit that layup at the end of the game, how the
- 36:00players came to him. And, and even when they
- 36:03interviewed him, he said, I knew I had it in me.
- 36:05I knew I had it in me. I haven't been hitting a shot
- 36:07all game long, but I knew when I when we were out there and the
- 36:11coach was asking us who wants the shot, he says I want to take
- 36:14the shot. And the coach looked at Rick or
- 36:17whatever coach looked at me and said you haven't had a shot all
- 36:19game. And he says I, I, I believe I
- 36:22have the ability to get that shot off.
- 36:24And he did. He got the shot off with his
- 36:25right hand. That was what was so impressive
- 36:27about Dylan Darling. He's a left-handed shooter.
- 36:30He usually goes up with his left hand.
- 36:32And Pitino said at the end of the game, he says he never goes
- 36:35up with his right. So when he went up with his
- 36:36right, I was, you know, I was shocked.
- 36:39But when it went in, I was like, you know, I was ecstatic.
- 36:43So it was it was fun to watch Pitino and his reaction.
- 36:48I have never seen Rick Pitino over the years, the coaching
- 36:51with Louisville and Kentucky, all the great things that he has
- 36:55done, national championships that he's won.
- 36:57I've never seen him react like that.
- 37:00Never, never see him jump high and, and smile and laugh and,
- 37:04and, and it was just so exciting.
- 37:06And they just, they just got into the Sweet 16.
- 37:08This is the first sweet, Sweet 16.
- 37:12What was it? Appearance.
- 37:13No, not even appearance. What's the word?
- 37:15I had it stuck in my head. But I, I, I'll figure it out.
- 37:19But this is the first time they've been in the Sweet 16 for
- 37:22almost it's almost been 20 years, maybe more than that.
- 37:25It's been a long, long time since St.
- 37:27John's. St.
- 37:28John's has had an opportunity to play for a national championship
- 37:31because usually you got to get into the Sweet 16 to get into
- 37:34the lead 8 and lead 8 to the Final four and to that
- 37:36championship and now they have their spot.
- 37:38Last year, Pitino thought that that team was good enough to at
- 37:41least get into the Sweet 16. Arkansas was the team that beat
- 37:45St. John's last year, and now
- 37:47Arkansas has an opportunity to move on and and who they matched
- 37:51up against. Arizona.
- 37:53Arizona and Arizona, which is Fish's favorite and a lot of
- 37:56people's favorite to win the tournament.
- 37:58Arkansas to me and I, I'll say this, this is the first game
- 38:03Arkansas played. I'm sorry, who did Arkansas
- 38:07play? They just played high points.
- 38:08High Point Martin And who's the other kid from Arkansas?
- 38:12Acuff. This is the first time that two
- 38:16players scored 30 points on opposing teams in the same game
- 38:21since 1980. Seven, 1987 was that was This is
- 38:26the first time that's ever happened.
- 38:29Whatever happened in an NCAA March Madness game.
- 38:33Think about that. That's over 30 years ago, 30
- 38:37years ago. And Darius Acuff, if he decides
- 38:43to come out of this year's draft, is moving up in the
- 38:46lottery. He he could he could get into
- 38:48the lottery for the if he continues to play this way and
- 38:52if Arkansas could move on against Arizona and he's the
- 38:56reason why you're talking about. And we've seen players move up
- 39:00in the draft now, right now going into this year's class, he
- 39:03wasn't a top ten pick. He's probably in the teens, I
- 39:08would say 1516. But after the game that he just
- 39:11had against high point and high point's a good defending team.
- 39:15They're a good team. And and Arkansas looked very,
- 39:18very tired in the game. They were very, very tired.
- 39:21It looked like what they were playing on fumes and that maybe
- 39:25because of their championship run and all that other stuff.
- 39:29Arkansas and you got to give John Calipari a little bit of
- 39:32credit because John Calipari for years has always gotten the top
- 39:38recruits from Kentucky, always been favored to go into the
- 39:42Final Four or a national championship.
- 39:44Nerlens know well, we go through it.
- 39:46Anthony Davis, all these guys that he has coached and Matt,
- 39:50you know, and obviously Cousins or John Wall, all these guys,
- 39:56these guys became superstars in the NBA, great players in the
- 39:59NBA. He coached these guys and he got
- 40:02them to the promised land. He got them to the championship
- 40:04game and they had to win it. John Calipari, what he's done in
- 40:08the last two years, taking this team, Arkansas, not just once
- 40:13but twice to the Sweet 16 is absolutely incredible.
- 40:19This is a This was a bad program.
- 40:22This was a program that barely got into the tournament over the
- 40:25last couple of years and now back-to-back years and they just
- 40:29snuck into the tournament last year.
- 40:32What were they, Ten seed? I believe they were 9.
- 40:35They, they, and I thought they were valued higher than they
- 40:38should have been last year. And the way they and they beat
- 40:42St. John's, one of the better teams
- 40:45all season long, defensively sound and they completely
- 40:47crushed him on the boards offensively in that game.
- 40:51This game, High Point had a chance.
- 40:55They had a chance. And that's the thing.
- 40:58Now everybody says, well, High Point's not Arizona.
- 41:01Well, what does that mean? If a cuff has a game like that
- 41:04and they're getting timely shooting and they can hit their
- 41:07free throws, there's no doubt in my mind.
- 41:10And they're a good rebounding team.
- 41:11Arkansas, they're a big, strong team.
- 41:14Arizona's had problems against big teams.
- 41:17They've always had problems against big teams.
- 41:21So you're going against Arkansas, a very, very respected
- 41:26coach in college basketball and even in the NBA.
- 41:29New York native. I'll tell you this about John
- 41:32Calipari. He's not going to go in this go
- 41:35into a game where he's looking at Arizona and he's scared of
- 41:38him. He's going to go into this game.
- 41:40They've got time. They got four games.
- 41:42They have four days off before they have to play.
- 41:44I think they play on Thursday. That's more than enough time to
- 41:49get this team healthy and ready to play against an Arizona team.
- 41:53Yeah, they look they it's really been an easy run all the way to
- 41:56the Sweet 16 for them. But now it's going to get hard.
- 41:59They got to play Arkansas and then they might have to play
- 42:02Purdue. And Purdue is playing great
- 42:04basketball right now. Arkansas is playing good
- 42:07basketball right now. And I'm going to tell you right
- 42:09now, if there's any team that I believe speedy Arizona should be
- 42:13afraid of, it is Arkansas. And.
- 42:15I had that upset with Arkansas and because I know Jean Kalapari
- 42:19can slow that pace down if he has to, he could play fast with
- 42:22this team. This is not a traditional
- 42:24Kentucky type team that Arkansas has.
- 42:25They're they're playing a lot faster.
- 42:27They had to do that to play high point because high point plays a
- 42:28very fast-paced game. They shoot a lot of threes and
- 42:31they had to keep up with them for a while and he conf was
- 42:33obviously the challenge. He's going to be a top ten pick
- 42:34for a reason as well. You think he's a top ten pick?
- 42:37He looks like he's going to be and.
- 42:38Because before the tournament they said there was no
- 42:40guarantees. Yes, he was a teen type.
- 42:42He was. A fringe 1, I think he's really
- 42:44elevating his stock a little more.
- 42:45I think Tennessee's K with a Mint got a little more hype at
- 42:48the time. Obviously the kid, the kids on
- 42:49Arizona, they're going to get a lot of hype.
- 42:51And like you said, the international ones are going to
- 42:52get a lot of hype. So there wasn't.
- 42:53They're saying the first international player in this
- 42:56year's class could fall all the way to 16 or 17.
- 42:59Yeah, it's. It's definitely possible.
- 43:01And. Performances like this are going
- 43:02to are going to highlight that and I'm curious if Arkansas's
- 43:05defense will be able to adjust because there Arizona's going to
- 43:08play a lot of different types of paces because they have great
- 43:10size and depth with everything. And obviously Barry's the kid
- 43:13they have it because he's really good at shooting the three ball
- 43:14as well. And they showed that in the
- 43:16second-half against Utah State. They struggled in the beginning
- 43:18of that game with Utah State because Utah State had a defense
- 43:21that was playing well and contesting a lot of those shots,
- 43:24but Arizona eventually pulled away.
- 43:25But like you said, Arkansas can definitely play that type of
- 43:28style as well and do what makes them scary as well is they're
- 43:32finding that defense they had in previous year.
- 43:34This is a more offensive centric Purdue team and they held Miami
- 43:37to just 69 points, forcing a lot of bad shots.
- 43:39They had one big run at the end of the first half of Miami and
- 43:41that was really it. And Purdue, this is the best
- 43:44offensive team that they've had in Matt Painter's time there.
- 43:47And that's a scary thing. I had Gonzaga, I was wrong on
- 43:50that. They were just terrible the
- 43:51whole game. Texas, I told you about Gonzaga.
- 43:54I told you about Gonzaga. I don't trust that team.
- 43:57They don't play well as they go deeper into the tournament.
- 44:00Yeah, this was their first time out of the Sweet 16 since 2014.
- 44:04And, and to me, and that, that says a lot about the team and,
- 44:07and the way they recruit players.
- 44:08They like to keep players for a significant amount of time and
- 44:11they work themselves in as, as they become juniors and
- 44:15sophomores into juniors and then into seniors.
- 44:18The Gonzaga is a team. And, and again going into that
- 44:21game, and I'll say this about Gonzaga, I, I, I like Gonzaga.
- 44:25I, I do. But Texas, what they did in the
- 44:27game and in Texas throughout the tournament, especially in the
- 44:30first round, I was worried about Texas.
- 44:32Texas did not play well in the first round.
- 44:34They did not, but really at the tail end of the season,
- 44:38especially their season, Ted, there was a lot of questions.
- 44:41Could they get enough offense? That's why they were ranked.
- 44:43They were eleven seed Texas early in the season.
- 44:46They were playing good basketball and they kind of fell
- 44:48off. They lost a lot of bad games and
- 44:51they have a tremendous amount of offensive talent on that team.
- 44:54And what they needed to do against Gonzaga is they needed
- 44:57to control the boards and they needed to shoot and that's what
- 45:00they did against Gonzaga. Gonzaga had no answers, no
- 45:03answers for Texas in that game. I watched bits and pieces that
- 45:06game and I knew that Texas was going to run away with the game
- 45:09and and they did. Even though the game looked
- 45:11close, it wasn't even close. Yeah, because I always take a
- 45:13lot of bad shots. Texas was forcing them very
- 45:15well. Like you said, I was worried
- 45:17about Texas size against Gonzaga.
- 45:18There's a lot of size and a good experience, but they definitely
- 45:21out rebounded him and that's a big thing for them if they're
- 45:23going to have to play Purdue because Purdue has cloughed that
- 45:26big man. It's 7 foot one I.
- 45:29Believe they always have a big. Yeah, they always do, but it's
- 45:31weird. Again, it's more offensive,
- 45:33efficient team for Purdue this year.
- 45:34So it might be a good formula of everything.
- 45:36Now, now that being said, they still can't take it for granted
- 45:38the way the Texas played. And they got a good coach too.
- 45:39And Sean Miller, like obviously Calipari is the best coach in
- 45:42that region. Then you're looking at probably
- 45:432 next similar level coaches right there with Sean Miller and
- 45:46Matt Painter, who's been pretty good for a while, but both of
- 45:48them have trouble getting to the Final Four.
- 45:50That's where they're stuck. And obviously Purdue did two
- 45:51years. Coaching is the most important
- 45:53when it comes to this tournament.
- 45:54Everybody says it's talent and it's not.
- 45:57It's coaching. Look at John Shire.
- 45:59Look what happened last year in the Final Four.
- 46:01There was 2 minutes left. He couldn't get the ball in.
- 46:04He could not get the ball in. How many timeouts he couldn't
- 46:07get that ball in and that cost them.
- 46:09Remember, they were up by 10 points with a minute and 30
- 46:12seconds left. How does the team come back?
- 46:14How does the Houston team that really is not known for their
- 46:17offense come back the way they did against the Duke Blue
- 46:20Devils, who absolutely outplayed them that whole game?
- 46:23Absolutely. So again, it comes to coaching,
- 46:27especially in these important games.
- 46:28Calipari, Pitino, Hurley, all these guys that we mentioned,
- 46:33not John Shire, guys, I'm not putting him there until John
- 46:36Shire tells me he can win the big game and shows me that he
- 46:38can win the big game. I don't believe and I'm going to
- 46:41sell. I'm going to tell everybody out
- 46:42there that watches college basketball religiously more than
- 46:45I do. I will say this, you could be a
- 46:48Duke Blue Devil fan. You could be a North Carolina
- 46:49fan. It, you can't lie to yourself,
- 46:53Hubert Davis is going to lose his job.
- 46:56He doesn't belong there at North Carolina.
- 46:58He got the job because he was a North Carolina native and the
- 47:03the committee loved him and they thought, hey, this guy was an
- 47:06NBA player, successful NBA player.
- 47:08He worked on, he worked as an assistant coach on North
- 47:12Carolina for many, many years and he deserved the opportunity.
- 47:16Same thing with John Shire. But here's the problem.
- 47:18And I have a story that I put out today.
- 47:21Well, Speedy put it out for me on comparing John Shire to JJ
- 47:24Redick. And how did JJ Reddick get his
- 47:27job, LeBron James? And how did Shire get his job,
- 47:31Coach K? And if you compare what these
- 47:34guys have done in professional in the NBA and the NCAA, they're
- 47:39both failures. What has in two years, what has
- 47:43JJ Reddick done? What has he produced?
- 47:45Nothing. And what is he producing?
- 47:47What, He's on a 10 game-winning streak and Luka Doncic is hot
- 47:50and LeBron James and him are playing well.
- 47:52That's what's going to sell that.
- 47:53That's going to tell me that they're going to be an NBA
- 47:55champion this year. I'm not trusting JJ Redick.
- 47:58And as far as coach Shire, it don't matter if they get to the
- 48:01Elite 8 like I think they are. Shire is not a good play in
- 48:06coach. He's not X's and O's.
- 48:09I'm betting against Shire if he's playing UConn and Danny
- 48:12Hurley. If Danny Hurley moves out and so
- 48:15does Shire and Duke move on and they match up in the Elite Eight
- 48:18against UConn, they don't have a chance.
- 48:21And you're seeing that kind of thing with adjustments with
- 48:22these veteran coaches in other regions as well.
- 48:24When I was worried about Houston with their offense.
- 48:26And I think I think match up wise when they play Texas AM
- 48:29they care to everything Texas A&M did in the last game and
- 48:31their coach didn't adjust. Calvin Sampson was the complete
- 48:34opposite. Made sure that they were
- 48:35comfortable with the offense that they played too.
- 48:37And same kind of thing with Michigan State.
- 48:38I had Louisville winning that game because I like the way that
- 48:41their depth was in that. And Qi know you're being a North
- 48:43Carolina fan, you've probably seen some of Louisville and
- 48:46their new style in the ACC and Michigan State had a style that
- 48:49seemed very old school. But Tom Izzo was able to adjust
- 48:51and get them comfortable in terms of shooting.
- 48:53Freeze getting the free throw line enough in that game and now
- 48:56they'll be taking on, like you said, UConn in that next round
- 48:58who played, didn't play great. That whole game struggled.
- 49:01That was a back and forth game until really the end, but a big
- 49:03takeover I'm not. Worried about UConn?
- 49:06I'm really not. I'm.
- 49:06Not worried about UConn? I'm not.
- 49:09UConn it's weird because it was Reid that dominated all in the
- 49:12first game. It was really lopsided
- 49:14comparatively. Like it's a little more talents
- 49:15ever you see with Hurley teams, but Hurley is one of those
- 49:17coaches you can trust to be able to get that we've seen.
- 49:20This before when they won national championships, when
- 49:22they won back-to-back national championships, there were games
- 49:25that the games were so close you were biting your nails all the
- 49:28way to the end of the game. I trust Danny Hurley on the way
- 49:31he coaches and the way he has built his teams to find a way to
- 49:35win. Pitino still has to prove that
- 49:37with St. John's.
- 49:39He did it. He did it in the last round with
- 49:41Darling and that was to me, it was very impressive what Darling
- 49:45did because he couldn't have shot the whole game.
- 49:48Dylan Darling did not have shot the whole game.
- 49:50I think he was O for like 8 OK. 1:00 and 5:00.
- 49:54Well, one and five, whatever. So he was O and he was O for
- 49:57five or O for four. And then he, he, he decides to
- 50:00take the shot at the end of the game.
- 50:02Well, Pintino obviously say, OK, take the shot because there's no
- 50:06way he would have, he would have went up and and took the shot if
- 50:08Pitino didn't say that he could. So I to me that was impressive.
- 50:13But I want to see him do it against an elite team, do it
- 50:16against Duke, if you could do it against Duke.
- 50:18I. Think he going to do?
- 50:19It OK how much you want to bet? What happened?
- 50:23He's bet all right. Let's bet you I don't know why.
- 50:26How you a Duke fan but still hate the coach?
- 50:27No, everybody asked me that same question and it's it's a it's a
- 50:31very it's a very easy question. And I'm going to give you an
- 50:35easy answer. John Shire has always been the
- 50:39other guy on that roster. Even when he won a national
- 50:41championship, everyone's like, well, he was a good shooter.
- 50:43He did he did it. So was JJ Redick and what did he
- 50:46win? OK, I don't want to hear it.
- 50:48That's why I made AI had a story about behind both of these guys.
- 50:51They're all coach gay guys and and both of them were handed the
- 50:55keys to a a nice Lamborghini. OK, that's what it is.
- 50:59The Lakers are are the probably the most respected NBA team in
- 51:04NBA history. And right now you can argue your
- 51:06point. The Duke Blue Devils are
- 51:08probably the biggest in college basketball in the last 40 years.
- 51:12So and probably the most hated, just like the Lakers.
- 51:15Now you have two Duke Blue Devils running those those
- 51:17teams, 11 that's running a college team, the other one's
- 51:21running an NBA team and they're both failures.
- 51:23They have one nothing. Nothing everybody brags about.
- 51:26Well, look what JJ Redick's doing right now.
- 51:28And look at LeBron. The only reason why he has his
- 51:30job because of LeBron James. That's the facts.
- 51:33So you telling me he didn't go through the hiring process at
- 51:36all? No, not really, no.
- 51:39No, what evidence you having that?
- 51:41I I don't need evidence. I'm telling you what happened.
- 51:43You got to have some evidence. What?
- 51:45Do you want So you're going to tell me right now?
- 51:47You're going to tell me right now first.
- 51:48Of all LeBron stabbed him, but he.
- 51:50Would no. Danny Hurley was going to get
- 51:52the job. Danny Hurley was going to get
- 51:55the job, but they didn't want to pay him 20 something,
- 51:56$1,000,000. He wanted 20 something,
- 51:58$1,000,000 to leave UConn. He was not going to leave.
- 52:02He was not going to leave UConn unless he was getting that kind
- 52:04of money and be the highest paid coach in the NBA.
- 52:07They weren't giving it to him. So then they were, they were
- 52:10they put all. Their.
- 52:12They put all their eggs in that basket.
- 52:14They thought they were getting Danny Hurley because Danny
- 52:16Hurley went to visit them not once but twice, and they thought
- 52:20he was going, they were going to seal the deal and they were
- 52:21going to close in on a contract. He said no.
- 52:24OK. Then all the coaches were hired.
- 52:27After that, everybody went somewhere.
- 52:29So who did they had the lead to? They went to LeBron James.
- 52:32Who do you want to be coached by?
- 52:33Because there was nobody. There was no Luca on that team.
- 52:36Luca wasn't on that team. Mark Jackson hasn't been hired
- 52:40since he got fired from Golden State.
- 52:44Jeff Gundy has never been hired since he left Houston.
- 52:48Since he's left Houston. But it just shows.
- 52:51There was no process. He was the only one available
- 52:55that LeBron James wanted to be coached by there again, if it
- 52:58was Luca, if Luca was there at on that roster, no way in hell
- 53:01JJ Reddick gets hired. And I'm going to tell you this
- 53:04right now, no matter how good, no matter how good they play
- 53:07throughout the playoffs, when LeBron leaves next year, so will
- 53:10JJ Reddick. You could book it.
- 53:12You could sell that and wrap it up like a nice Christmas gift.
- 53:15Who are they going to get? I don't know, but it's not going
- 53:18to be JJ Reddick. It's going to be what Luka
- 53:19Doncic wants. Maybe Jason Kennedy gets fired.
- 53:22From Dallas, no doubt about it. I'm telling you right now, you
- 53:26can book it. They're they're taking
- 53:29everything right now besides flag.
- 53:30And how about how about the Nebraska game?
- 53:32Oh yeah. How about the Nebraska game?
- 53:34I I haven't reached out to Jabba.
- 53:36I have not reached out to Jabba yet because I know his son's
- 53:39best friend plays for Nebraska and I call him the Cornholes.
- 53:46Well, they were shooting a lot like that in that.
- 53:48Game. Oh boy, oh boy, were they
- 53:50putting on a clinic. They really were.
- 53:52And Vanderbilt, they had a chance at the end of the game to
- 53:55hit that shot and it looked like it was going in.
- 53:57It looked like it was going to roll right in.
- 53:59And it reminds me of a team Coach Stevens was coaching.
- 54:05Remember that? And it was against Duke in a
- 54:06national championship. Do you remember who shot that
- 54:09ball? Gordon Hayward.
- 54:10Gordon Hayward. Hayward, who was The Who is
- 54:13another Celtic, if you remember failure over there with the
- 54:18Celtics because it can stay healthy.
- 54:19Yeah, got hurt his first game. Yeah, but I mean, that's what it
- 54:22reminded me as. And and that came failure.
- 54:28He he was a failure with the the Celtics.
- 54:31They paid him a lot of money. What did he do?
- 54:32He got hurt. He got hurt and he got a lot of
- 54:35money, got $140 million. Hey listen, if I could get hurt
- 54:39and win, win myself a lottery of 140. $1,000,000.
- 54:43They're paid, period. This isn't.
- 54:46That paid off. This isn't the NFL.
- 54:49This is not the NFL, buddy. You're guaranteed you can't
- 54:53predict the feature you think they want to get hurt so you get
- 54:57paid based off your production, what you already proving to them
- 55:00and what they expect you. To do so, he produced over there
- 55:03in what was it, Utah. OK, so he produced in Utah.
- 55:07So you know what? Danny Ainges loved him so much
- 55:10he gave him $148 million. Get out of here.
- 55:13You're on drugs. Yeah.
- 55:16You know what the hell it goes? It goes that Danny Ainge is a
- 55:18complete moron. He made a mistake and just paid
- 55:21some somebody $148 million for nothing.
- 55:23That's what he did. I can't stand Danny Ainge so.
- 55:27No. No way.
- 55:27No. It's written all over your face.
- 55:29Yeah, well, thank you. If you want me, if you want me
- 55:31to be a clown, I can do that too.
- 55:33Anyways, the go back to the Nebraska game.
- 55:36I, I was so impressed with Nebraska throughout this game
- 55:39and throughout the tournament. A team that was a number four
- 55:42seed. Some people thought they were
- 55:44ranked a little too high. I was one of them.
- 55:46I thought they were more of a, a six seed.
- 55:48That's where I thought they were.
- 55:50They played sensational basketball all season long, but
- 55:52at the tail end of the season, they were up and down there.
- 55:56There were games that they should have pulled off and they
- 55:58didn't pull off. And then going against
- 56:00Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt was a, a favorite team, a team that a lot
- 56:03of people thought could have gotten into the Elite 8, maybe
- 56:06beat Houston, maybe get into the Final four.
- 56:08I mean, they have all the, they have everything to, to, to win.
- 56:12I mean, as far as defense is concerned and rebounding and
- 56:16scoring, they got it and they're very well coached, very well
- 56:19coached. But to watch Nebraska put on a
- 56:21clinic, especially in the second-half, the way they shot
- 56:23the ball was very, very impressive.
- 56:26It really was. And the game was back and forth.
- 56:28It it was just this was probably besides the Saint John games
- 56:31because everybody in New York was watching a Saint John's
- 56:34game, but the the Saint John's game.
- 56:36But this game was probably the best all around game so far this
- 56:41tournament. Yeah, it's battle tested that
- 56:43the big a lot of these Big 10 teams are showing.
- 56:45Then Nebraska, the reason why they kind of slipped at the end
- 56:48of the season was a lot of their conference play.
- 56:50They struggled in and that's why I think they were projected 3
- 56:52seed for a while then fell to a four seed.
- 56:54I agree with you. I was thinking they're going to
- 56:55be a five seed originally, but they still lived up to a
- 56:58Vanderbilt started slow and I think they're offensive.
- 57:01Steven, in the first game they struggled with McNeese.
- 57:03They really started slow and they had to get a big run even
- 57:05to get back into the game. Nebraska played a very complete
- 57:07game the whole time and they have a coach and Fred Hoiberg
- 57:09that has a lot of tournament experience, a lot of negative
- 57:11experience with Iowa State, but tournament experiences.
- 57:13You're getting your second wind, I guess, getting that team to go
- 57:16and they played with a lot of three-point shooting.
- 57:18They hit a lot of tough shots. This is a really good team that
- 57:20is playing like they did at the beginning of the season.
- 57:22Vanderbilt, I thought they I had them in the Final Four because
- 57:25they've experienced good size and played good competition.
- 57:27I was just beating Florida and then they just got.
- 57:29Caught. How about How about the story of
- 57:31Hoiberg and his son? Yeah, going to the Sweet 16.
- 57:34He's a great passer. Like they really, they moved
- 57:36that offense really effectively against a team in Vanderbilt has
- 57:39a good perimeter defense. A lot of people were questioning
- 57:41his son and why he made this team and why he made this
- 57:44roster. And he has proved himself
- 57:46throughout this tournament to be a very important factor to this
- 57:50team success. And, and Hoiberg, who I, I think
- 57:53is, is still a coach that's figuring things out and, and
- 57:57slowly but surely getting this team to play the game that he
- 58:00wanted them to play last year and, and kind of fell short for
- 58:04the tournament. Now you're seeing all the, all
- 58:07the ability that this team has in the, the, the perception is,
- 58:10is that this team going in and moving into the next round and
- 58:13who they're matched up against in the next round, which is Iowa
- 58:18and Iowa, who is is been, and I'll say this, Iowa was
- 58:21sensational. They were sensational throughout
- 58:25their game and they can def, they could defend, they can
- 58:27score, they can do everything. Iowa sensational watch and Iowa
- 58:31might be one of the most dangerous teams in this
- 58:33tournament. Still, they, they, I, I, I could
- 58:36see Iowa going to the Final Four if they can, if they can
- 58:39continue to play at this pace and the way they're playing,
- 58:41they could beat any team in this tournament.
- 58:45And I and I, I love the way that some of these games really have
- 58:49gone, even though they're a lot of them have been blowouts, like
- 58:51the Kentucky game, that was an absolute Iowa State.
- 58:54What Iowa State did against Kentucky was just absolutely
- 58:58appalling. And Kentucky, who's been always
- 59:01a good recruiting school and ever since John Calipari left
- 59:03them, I don't know what's going on with that program.
- 59:05That program is not. Good.
- 59:06Yet they're still one of the highest funded teams in the SEC.
- 59:09Well, of course, because they've been one of the most known
- 59:13commodities over here in college basketball.
- 59:15When you think of college basketball, who do you think of?
- 59:18You think of Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky.
- 59:21Those are the three schools. Those are the three basketball
- 59:25schools that have been on top of the world.
- 59:27And those are the teams. And then you have the Indiana
- 59:29Hoosiers. I mean, there are teams that
- 59:32they're not a football school even though they won a national
- 59:34championship, but they're more they're more known for their
- 59:37basketball. Wisconsin is also a very good
- 59:40basketball school. Kansas, too, is another good
- 59:42school with Bob Sells, Bill Sells or Bob Sell Self.
- 59:46Bill Self. I'm sorry, Bill Self, but I
- 59:49think that obviously what we watch, and also Alabama, it's
- 59:53been very impressive what Alabama has done.
- 59:54Yeah. I was going to say their coach
- 59:56in Nate Oates is probably the best one left, maybe that maybe
- 59:59besides Calvin Sampson that hasn't won a championship yet.
- 1:00:02The Alabama had like the 11th highest budget in the SEC for
- 1:00:06basketball and they're a Sweet 16 team and kind of thought of
- 1:00:09as a team in transition this year.
- 1:00:10Still good, but not the same level of the powerhouses that
- 1:00:12you saw with Florida and Vanderbilt.
- 1:00:15Even Tennessee and down here too, and they were very
- 1:00:16impressive against Virginia had more money than them and they
- 1:00:20put together a team that went to the Sweet 16 and they look scary
- 1:00:23too on offense. They're the number one scoring
- 1:00:25team in the country. Now they can play defense too.
- 1:00:27To go along with that. They're definitely a scary one.
- 1:00:29Iowa State, like you said, a scary one that now they play
- 1:00:31face Tennessee, two really good defensive teams in that battle
- 1:00:34and they played dominating on Kentucky the whole game in
- 1:00:37Kentucky's budget. Yeah, it looks really bad.
- 1:00:39Right now, I'm telling you right now, you watch out for Iowa.
- 1:00:41They they hit that game-winning shot against Florida.
- 1:00:43They knocked off the number one seed.
- 1:00:45They can be very, very dangerous.
- 1:00:46They are confident. They believe that they can beat
- 1:00:49anybody in this tournament. You heard after the game,
- 1:00:52especially when they were speaking to the media, how
- 1:00:54confident they are. I'm telling you this, that's all
- 1:00:56you need. You not you not go for number
- 1:00:58one seed. You, you have the confidence all
- 1:01:00the way to a national championship.
- 1:01:02So that's all you need is that little, little kick in the ass.
- 1:01:05And and that's what we've seen in this tournament.
- 1:01:07It's been a lot of blowouts and, and by the way, Virginia, that
- 1:01:11was embarrassing. Virginia has been a good
- 1:01:14basketball school and and a great defensive school for many,
- 1:01:18many years. Really didn't have offense.
- 1:01:19This year was the first year that I could say they, they had
- 1:01:22a dual type of team. They can shoot, they can score,
- 1:01:25they can defend, they could do everything and rebound and do
- 1:01:28what. But after losing against Duke in
- 1:01:31the ACC championship with the two injuries that Duke had, the
- 1:01:35two major injuries that Duke had and losing that way, I, I just
- 1:01:39think they lost a lot of confidence.
- 1:01:41Virginia was not confident going into this tournament.
- 1:01:44And, and you saw it, Virginia playing a Tennessee team that
- 1:01:47they were better than they're better than Tennessee.
- 1:01:50And Tennessee scored. They were they were playing
- 1:01:54above the game the whole game. They and then Virginia came back
- 1:01:58at the tail end of the game. They they, they they fought back
- 1:02:01into the game and finally got the lead.
- 1:02:03They got a one point lead and then what happens?
- 1:02:05They choked again. They could not defend and it
- 1:02:07could not rebound. The offensive rebounding from
- 1:02:12just completely from Tennessee would just dominate.
- 1:02:15They just dominated the boards. They did everything they needed
- 1:02:18to do to win that game, and Tennessee isn't.
- 1:02:20Who do they match up against next?
- 1:02:21Now that now gets Iowa State. Those are two really.
- 1:02:23Good. I think Iowa State's going to
- 1:02:26blow them out. I think Iowa State's going to
- 1:02:28blow Tennessee out. I just you watch.
- 1:02:32Iowa State's going to blow Tennessee out.
- 1:02:34Tennessee is a team. How much?
- 1:02:35Let's mark it down right now. How?
- 1:02:37Much you want to bet, how much you want to bet?
- 1:02:39No, how much they're going to beat, they're going to blow them
- 1:02:42out. Seven or 878 points.
- 1:02:46All right, All right. Well, when St.
- 1:02:47John's loses against Duke, when St.
- 1:02:49John's loses against Duke and Iowa State beats Tennessee, I'm
- 1:02:53going to tell you. I told you.
- 1:02:54Something No, you said blowout. You didn't say beat.
- 1:02:57It depends on who's making shots.
- 1:02:58Mark Marks. All right, all right.
- 1:03:00I'm going to say Iowa State beats them by 7 or 8 points.
- 1:03:04That's a blowout. That's a blowout in college
- 1:03:06basketball in in Sweet 16, yes, that's a blowout.
- 1:03:11OK, that's a blowout. So you got 7 to 8, we're going
- 1:03:13to clip it and we're going to bring that to bring that back
- 1:03:16up. Well, who do you have?
- 1:03:18Who do you have winning Iowa State?
- 1:03:20I got Tennessee winning that one.
- 1:03:22OK. All right.
- 1:03:23And you have St. John's winning the other one.
- 1:03:25For sure. OK.
- 1:03:26So just the opposite, you know, I'm usually right.
- 1:03:28You usually. Yeah.
- 1:03:29OK, OK. Makes sense.
- 1:03:31I'll remember you said that. I'll remember, I remember you
- 1:03:34said that. So I'll be throwing curve balls
- 1:03:36at you after Thursday and Friday, my friend.
- 1:03:39But I, I, I will say this, Arizona has the has had the
- 1:03:43easiest, easiest way to the the Sweet 16 and they got it.
- 1:03:48They're going to, they have Arkansas and if they beat
- 1:03:51Arkansas, they still have to play it.
- 1:03:52Whoever wins the Purdue game, but I think Purdue should win.
- 1:03:56I think they're matched up against Texas.
- 1:03:57They're matching with Texas now. Here's the thing though.
- 1:03:59If Texas does beat Purdue, it would be funny to see Sean
- 1:04:01Miller versus Arizona. Yeah, that's not going.
- 1:04:03To happen, I don't think so either, but.
- 1:04:05I, I, I think it's going to be Purdue and whoever else comes
- 1:04:09out of the Arkansas and Arizona game.
- 1:04:11And I have the, I have the Boilers winning everything.
- 1:04:14I, I, I really do I, I, I think, I think they match up very well
- 1:04:19against Arizona. I think they match up very well
- 1:04:21against Arkansas. I and what they have done in
- 1:04:24this tournament, they've played consistent.
- 1:04:26They have been the most consistent team in this
- 1:04:29tournament. If you, if you're watching the
- 1:04:30tournament right now, what Smith is doing right now and he's
- 1:04:34going to be, he's going to be a first round draft pick.
- 1:04:36He's not going to be a high first round draft pick.
- 1:04:38He'll be a late first round draft pick.
- 1:04:40But I think Braden has proven himself to be an asset for an
- 1:04:44NBA team to look at him and, and, and be John Stockton type
- 1:04:49of player. I, I think he's that kind of
- 1:04:50player. I think he could play that type
- 1:04:52of game in the NBA. He's not going to score a lot of
- 1:04:54points, but if he gives you 12 and 14.
- 1:04:57So what, So what? He might not be 6 foot tall
- 1:05:00though he. He's 6 foot.
- 1:05:03He's considered 6 foot. He's considered 6 foot.
- 1:05:06There's a lot of guys who were considered 6 foot over the
- 1:05:08years, but they have to have elitist athleticism.
- 1:05:11The last though, don't you think?
- 1:05:12Mugsy Bogues, remember him? He had a lead 5 three guy.
- 1:05:18Mugsy Bogues is one of them. I can name Alan Iverson.
- 1:05:21Was 6. Alan Iverson was six.
- 1:05:24What do you mean we're not in that era?
- 1:05:26Alan Iverson? Jaylen Bronson.
- 1:05:28Jaylen Bronson is probably like 6-1 when I saw him.
- 1:05:31He's not that big. There's other guys.
- 1:05:34So he's saying Brunson 6162 and he doesn't play, you know, a
- 1:05:38super athletic game. He's a very crafty guy.
- 1:05:41You're right that you don't. Need to be athletic.
- 1:05:42If you're playing the point guard position, you don't need
- 1:05:45to be. But this guy's pass first, you
- 1:05:47know, like it would be like you're saying like a more like a
- 1:05:50Stockton, more like a speedy, what would be like a modern
- 1:05:52he's. A great defender too, like.
- 1:05:54A pass first defense, first point guard like a mark is smart
- 1:05:58almost that just can't shoot or yeah, I think like it's a little
- 1:06:01better. Shoot because of the night than
- 1:06:03John stock. Yeah, well, I mean, if that's
- 1:06:05the range, that's still a usable player in the NBA.
- 1:06:08He is going to be in NBA. At six foot I don't know if he
- 1:06:10goes in the first round even. Even if he has a great
- 1:06:13tournament, you know I can't teach size.
- 1:06:16They they thought Zach Edie shouldn't be a first round draft
- 1:06:19pick and he was drafted pretty high so.
- 1:06:21Yeah, but he's 72, you know? Right.
- 1:06:23It's potential, I keep telling you that.
- 1:06:26Potential So I just like this football thing and you'll know
- 1:06:29this like every college coach that ever lives.
- 1:06:32Oh, this guy's how big I can coach him.
- 1:06:35I'm going to turn him into whatever.
- 1:06:36Yet there's a guy who's like got really good athleticism,
- 1:06:39probably a million times better that they're ignoring because
- 1:06:42they think they could turn anybody into something just
- 1:06:44because they see raw size. If you have this 6 foot guy,
- 1:06:48they just overlook this guy all the time.
- 1:06:49So you might be right, but I think he's going to go second
- 1:06:52round. If who?
- 1:06:53Cares where it goes, He's going to be an NBA player.
- 1:06:57It doesn't matter. I think he's going to be an NBA
- 1:06:58player. Is going to be a good one.
- 1:07:00That's I don't care if he's a first round trip, it don't
- 1:07:02matter if you're DRIP after the top 10, all those it's all a
- 1:07:05crap shoot. After that, it's all a crap
- 1:07:07shoot. So if he's drafted at 11 or if
- 1:07:11he's drafted in the second round at #3 or 4, it's a crap shoot
- 1:07:15after. The top, if we get to Arizona,
- 1:07:17that, that defensive perimeter defense that he's going to go
- 1:07:21against, that's going to be a real test.
- 1:07:22And if he could break that defense, he's he's got me sold.
- 1:07:26Like I, I'm watching berries right now.
- 1:07:28That guy's going top 10 like that.
- 1:07:30They weren't talking about him that high before the tournament.
- 1:07:33He is awesome out there right now.
- 1:07:35He's dominating. His shooting percentage is
- 1:07:36really high too and like. Arizona doesn't like to be
- 1:07:40pushed around, They don't like to be pushed around.
- 1:07:42And I'm going to tell you right now, the boiler man are going to
- 1:07:45push them around. If they match up against one
- 1:07:48another, they're going to push them.
- 1:07:49Around they're a little, I think it's a little different group.
- 1:07:51I mean, they're really tough inside.
- 1:07:54They got the 72 center, they got a couple other bigs they could
- 1:07:56throw at you. They got enough size compared to
- 1:07:59previous Arizona teams. I don't know, like, I really
- 1:08:01think this is the best chance they've ever had, you know,
- 1:08:04dating back I guess, what, almost 30 years now.
- 1:08:06We could we could talk about this over and over and again.
- 1:08:08And I remember so many Arizona teams that everybody, this is
- 1:08:11their time, this is the deer. And it never happened, Never
- 1:08:16happened. And I'm going to tell you this,
- 1:08:18it's not happening this year. I don't care how much talent
- 1:08:21they have on that roster, it's not happening.
- 1:08:23They're not winning a national championship.
- 1:08:25They're just they're not, you can book it.
- 1:08:28They're not winning a national championship this.
- 1:08:30Year How? Are we going to do, I'm even
- 1:08:32going to predict that Arkansas is going to beat them.
- 1:08:34I think Arkansas is going to. Beat that original.
- 1:08:37I think they're going to beat him.
- 1:08:38I think it's going to be Arkansas and Purdue in the Elite
- 1:08:428. That's what I think is going to
- 1:08:43happen and I and it's going to be John Caliber.
- 1:08:46I love Purdue. I loved him all the way into the
- 1:08:48I, I told Speed what I said in the beginning of the season, I
- 1:08:51had Purdue winning the national championship.
- 1:08:53I didn't even have to watch. I watched like two or three
- 1:08:55games of Purdue. I said that went in the national
- 1:08:57championship and and it's just and the last time I said it,
- 1:09:00they went to the national championship and they lost to
- 1:09:02get to UConn. You were on the you were on the
- 1:09:04redemption story like. And now I have the redemption
- 1:09:06story. I have UConn going to the
- 1:09:07national championship versus Purdue and for Purdue to win
- 1:09:11their first national championship so.
- 1:09:13Q It's funny because I actually took the opposite theory.
- 1:09:15I went for the regular season redemption story with your Tar
- 1:09:18Heels because they missed the tournament the year before.
- 1:09:19It's the number one overall rank team at the.
- 1:09:22Beginning of the. Year, this year, I said in 2024.
- 1:09:29They lost to. Alabama, I had them win.
- 1:09:30I picked them win at all because the year before they were the
- 1:09:33number one overall see at the start of the year and they
- 1:09:34missed the tournament completely.
- 1:09:35And then go back to UConn and I, we didn't really speak much
- 1:09:38about UConn and Michigan State because that's the match up.
- 1:09:41That's the match up. Tom Izzo, one of the greatest
- 1:09:44coaches of all time, versus Danny Hurley, probably the best
- 1:09:48coach right now in college basketball.
- 1:09:50You can argue he is the most successful one in the last five
- 1:09:53years and you got 2 powerhouses, UConn and Michigan State.
- 1:09:57A lot of people think that UConn has the advantage.
- 1:10:00I think Michigan State for years have always played against good,
- 1:10:04good competition if they move on and we've seen Tom Izzo get into
- 1:10:07the Sweet 16 and then lead aid and one win national, win a
- 1:10:10national championships. So to say that Tom Izzo can't do
- 1:10:13it this year, that's crazy. Tom Izo is one of the most
- 1:10:15respected coaches in college and very light too.
- 1:10:19I met Tom Izzo at the SPSP Awards a couple of years ago and
- 1:10:23Tom Izzo is not a big guy, but one of the nicest people.
- 1:10:26He laughs, he smiles, he likes to talk.
- 1:10:28He's a big football fan too. He watches a lot of college
- 1:10:31football. So Tom Izzo is a good guy and,
- 1:10:35and you want to root for him, but I'm not rooting against
- 1:10:37Danny Hurley. I'm a Hurley fan and I'm going
- 1:10:40all Hurley this year, man. I think Danny Hurley is going to
- 1:10:44surprise a lot of people because a lot of people don't think
- 1:10:47Danny Hurley has enough to get into the Final Four and win a
- 1:10:51national championship. I beg to differ.
- 1:10:53I think UConn has an opportunity to share.
- 1:10:55They have two big guys that can rebound, they can score.
- 1:10:59They're good offense and defensive rebounding teams and
- 1:11:02they have enough on the perimeter, shooting on the
- 1:11:05perimeter and they have guys that can do everything.
- 1:11:07So, and Danny Hurley is one of the meanest, God forsaking
- 1:11:12people on a basketball court. He will get into your head early
- 1:11:15in the game. He'll be yelling at teams.
- 1:11:18He'll be yelling at players, yelling at referees, yelling at
- 1:11:21other coaches on the other sidelines.
- 1:11:23This is the guy. This is Bobby Knight.
- 1:11:25This is the new Bobby Knight. And that's what I love about
- 1:11:27Danny Hurley is he doesn't give a crap.
- 1:11:29He's going to go out there, he's going to coach the hell out of
- 1:11:31the game and he's going to make sure that he is on top at the
- 1:11:34tail end with what what, what one or two seconds left of the
- 1:11:37game. He's going to make sure that he
- 1:11:38is in the lead. And I'm telling you right now,
- 1:11:41as good as Michigan State is and, and a lot of people, a lot
- 1:11:44of people have Michigan State going to the Final Four.
- 1:11:46A lot of people do. If Michigan State beats UConn,
- 1:11:50who they matched up, Duke or Saint John's, I, I think they
- 1:11:54have a very, I think they have a very good chance of getting into
- 1:11:56the Final Four because I think the hardest, the hardest team
- 1:11:58they're going to have to play is Yuka.
- 1:11:59I'm telling you right now, out of all these four teams in East,
- 1:12:02Yukon's the best one. Yeah, they're the most balanced
- 1:12:04one right now and Saint John's, they still have to rely a lot on
- 1:12:07their length in order to be able to win even two games in a row
- 1:12:11too. Now they're a better offensive
- 1:12:12team than they were last year. Obviously, like we were saying,
- 1:12:14they have enough 3 point shooting scoring, but they still
- 1:12:16rely on their length the most and they show, they showed in
- 1:12:18the beginning of that, say that Kansas game that they did that,
- 1:12:21but they're have to do it a lot more, especially if they played
- 1:12:23Michigan State down the road and Duke and UConn, all of them have
- 1:12:26length inside to be able to make that kind of thing work out.
- 1:12:28That's a we talked about the coaching gauntlet in that
- 1:12:30region. Hurley's the best one in the
- 1:12:32modern identity. Izzo did a great job adjusting
- 1:12:34though, and that's going to be something that it'll be
- 1:12:35interesting to see what the days off now because they have three
- 1:12:37days off, how the counter attacks going to be with that
- 1:12:39coaching battle. Hey Errol, before we move into
- 1:12:43Speedy's talking more about the elite aid and Sweet 16, can I,
- 1:12:47can I raise you a Danny Hurley and give you your other favorite
- 1:12:52Hurley, the one that played that you loved in Duke?
- 1:12:55Bobby Hurley and his assistant Nate Oates when they were at
- 1:12:59Buffalo with my alma mater bringing them to their only
- 1:13:04relevancy there ever was Nate Oates eventually getting the
- 1:13:06first ever win for Buffalo against ironically, Bobby Hurley
- 1:13:10at Arizona State. Nate Oates is an amazing
- 1:13:15basketball coach and they're going up against Michigan and I
- 1:13:19don't believe in this Michigan team.
- 1:13:21Errol I really don't, and I really think there's a big upset
- 1:13:25coming this weekend. I don't.
- 1:13:27I think Michigan is going all the way to the Final Four.
- 1:13:30I think Michigan, Houston has the best bracket.
- 1:13:33Houston to me now, and now that Vanderbilt has been knocked out,
- 1:13:37Houston is is a clear favorite to go into Final Four.
- 1:13:40They're a clear favorite. Florida's out.
- 1:13:43They're all out. So it there.
- 1:13:46To me, there's nobody that's going to be as long as Houston
- 1:13:49plays at a mediocre level, There's no way Nebraska or any
- 1:13:52of those teams are going to knock them off.
- 1:13:54So I expect them to get into the the Elite 8 and I expect them to
- 1:13:58go to the Final Four. As I predicted.
- 1:14:01As far as Michigan's concerned, I think Michigan's in the
- 1:14:04easiest bracket. They they we argued that that
- 1:14:07that was the easiest bracket. Alabama is a very interesting
- 1:14:10team and Alabama, if they're matched up against them, they
- 1:14:13could beat Michigan the way they're shooting the ball
- 1:14:15because Alabama hit the shots like they've been shooting at a
- 1:14:19clip throughout this tournament. They're they're on a all time
- 1:14:23high. How many 3 pointers have they
- 1:14:24hit? I mean, it's crazy how many 3
- 1:14:27pointers they've hit in back-to-back games.
- 1:14:29Can they continue to play this way?
- 1:14:30I don't think so. I, I, I, I don't think I am very
- 1:14:34interested to see how Alabama is going to continue to play at a
- 1:14:38high level of scoring if they expect to beat teams like
- 1:14:41Michigan, who's very good defensively, know how to defend
- 1:14:43the three ball and they're going to force them to get
- 1:14:46uncomfortable when they get inside.
- 1:14:48So, and they have great size too.
- 1:14:50Michigan has great size. So I disagree with you.
- 1:14:53I think Michigan, unless some catastrophical, catastrophic
- 1:14:57thing happens, I think Michigan, it's AI, think Michigan and
- 1:15:01Houston, you could book it. Both those teams are heading to
- 1:15:04the Final Four. That's my prediction.
- 1:15:07As far as Yukon, I mean, there's a lot of questions over there on
- 1:15:10the East side and in Arizona with the Purdue, you got to go
- 1:15:14through Arkansas, you got to go through Purdue.
- 1:15:16It's going to be if Arizona gets to the Final Four, they deserve
- 1:15:20it. They deserve it because that's
- 1:15:23not an easy bracket to get through.
- 1:15:25It really is in Arkansas to me, very, very tired.
- 1:15:28They look very, very tired. And but a cuff he he, he was
- 1:15:32playing unbelievable. And if he plays at a high level
- 1:15:35like this, I don't know if if teams like Arizona is going to
- 1:15:39be able to score as many points because you like all these
- 1:15:43players that they have and it they got two guys that could be
- 1:15:46top 10 talents. But can they do it in the big
- 1:15:49game? Arizona has proven they've had
- 1:15:51top 10 talents over the years. One of them is playing for Utah.
- 1:15:55And how did that work out? They got eliminated pretty quick
- 1:15:58in the tournament. It doesn't always mean because
- 1:16:01you're the better team or you've been the most dominant team
- 1:16:04throughout the the year that you're going to win and you're
- 1:16:06going to get into the Final Four.
- 1:16:07I, I don't, I don't trust Arizona.
- 1:16:09I I really until Arizona proves to me they can get there, I
- 1:16:13don't believe it. Yeah, and that's another one you
- 1:16:15could question coaching wise, like you did with Shire.
- 1:16:17Like Tommy Lloyd's been stuck at the Sweet 16.
- 1:16:19He hasn't gotten over the hump yet.
- 1:16:20Meanwhile, you talk about somebody else, like Michigan and
- 1:16:22Alabama, two young coaches that have made the Final Four
- 1:16:25already. I thought you were Dusty May.
- 1:16:26Michigan's dangerous. Michigan's dangerous.
- 1:16:29And I'm telling you right now, it's whoever comes out of the
- 1:16:34the region with Purdue and Arizona and Arkansas.
- 1:16:37I I still think Michigan is going to be a heavy favorite in
- 1:16:41that game. My brackets are cursed or
- 1:16:44favored better or not because I watched that Houston Arizona Big
- 1:16:4812 championship game and. How many?
- 1:16:50Arizona handled Houston. How many Elite 8 guys, How many
- 1:16:54Elite 8 teams do you still have in this?
- 1:16:57I have a lot actually. You know what, let's bring up
- 1:17:00the standings of our bracket here that we're doing who's at
- 1:17:05first I'll bring. Up the one that's laughing right
- 1:17:07now I believe is at first. Right now Q is in first. 00.
- 1:17:14But he actually isn't in first with like the total amount of
- 1:17:18points he can get. That goes to me sitting in
- 1:17:21fourth. Errol, you are only four points
- 1:17:25behind. QQ's actually got a pretty big
- 1:17:27lead after that. Nathan is sitting there.
- 1:17:31I've got. Q I'm catching up to you, man.
- 1:17:33You're only four points ahead of me.
- 1:17:36I'm telling you and I and I started this show with this.
- 1:17:38Just listen to me, OK? Listen, you're beating.
- 1:17:41You're beating me by 4 points. I will.
- 1:17:43Give you You're beating me by 4 points.
- 1:17:45Don't worry Q, don't worry, Q, you're not going to win.
- 1:17:50I'm going to win. I'm winning, I'm winning.
- 1:17:53I'm going to make sure. That I'm out of trouble right
- 1:17:54here, though Speedy lost three of his final four.
- 1:17:58Is that right? That's.
- 1:17:59Correct. Because I went for one sleeper
- 1:18:01and Vanderbilt and Gonzaga. I was high on the other scenario
- 1:18:03I was considering. Who does Q have in the final
- 1:18:05four? All right, let's take a look.
- 1:18:08Who? Does he have in the final four
- 1:18:09Hugh? Hugh's bracket has Saint John's,
- 1:18:13Connecticut, Arizona, Purdue. Not chance.
- 1:18:17Not chance. No.
- 1:18:19No, that's the elite 8. That's the Elite 8.
- 1:18:21That's the elite. 8 That's the elite 8.
- 1:18:22Yeah, Arizona. Purdue would play each other in
- 1:18:24the Elite 8, if that. Happened there.
- 1:18:25He is Connecticut, Houston, Arizona and he had Kentucky.
- 1:18:30He copied me. That's funny.
- 1:18:37This one's Errol's. Errol's got the Final Four.
- 1:18:41Yukon, Houston, Purdue. Michigan can be going after.
- 1:18:45The day you want to bet on that, you want to bet on that one.
- 1:18:50That I heard him. That's not going to hurt me.
- 1:18:53I'm sitting there with Saint John's and Houston and Arizona
- 1:18:57and Iowa State. I love that Big 12 this year,
- 1:19:01man, and I love Saint John's. That's all I got to say.
- 1:19:03Any. Bad.
- 1:19:04That's better than Aaron you. Have three, you have three.
- 1:19:06That's. Not better than Big 12.
- 1:19:08Final four first. Get out of here.
- 1:19:09I do, I do. Like I said, I watched a lot of
- 1:19:12that tournament speedy it. It definitely shaped my.
- 1:19:15Opinion. He's going on the one game
- 1:19:16theory all. Right, let's move on.
- 1:19:19Let's move on before I get angry.

- 1:19:51it is called now the New York sports loudmouth.
- 1:19:53We will continue moving forward with the name new show.
- 1:19:57It's the same show but kind of new content.
- 1:19:59We got a new Co host on the show and Quinton Coppols and Q is
- 1:20:03going to add a different. Type of personality to the show
- 1:20:06and obviously arguing and debating and pissing me off,
- 1:20:09which he's done quite a few times.
- 1:20:11He's taken on the Mikey C role very well so far.
- 1:20:14You know, you know, somebody needs, do you want to jerk me
- 1:20:18off or something of that magnitude?
- 1:20:20Hopefully they stay away from that or a lot of hot ladies.
- 1:20:23Well, there's somebody that likes give me that chicken
- 1:20:25Curry, chicken Curry. Anyways, that's it for our show.
- 1:20:28So thank you to all the fans. Who do we have on Thursdays?
- 1:20:31All right, returning to the show, you wanted to come back on
- 1:20:32during March Madness? I tried to get him on last week.
- 1:20:34He couldn't to do it, but our friend Dan Purcell will be back
- 1:20:36on president of Scout Central and a former Pelicans executive.
- 1:20:39He'll be coming on at 8:30. This guy knows everything about
- 1:20:43the talent that's coming out of this year's draft class.
- 1:20:46As a matter of fact, four years ago he came on the show and he
- 1:20:49told us about this draft class and he told us watch out for
- 1:20:522026 and 2027 on the talent that's coming out.
- 1:20:57And he said 2026 is the best class since LeBron James's
- 1:21:01class. So, and I would love to hear his
- 1:21:04take on Cambuser, Peterson and the Beza where he thinks these
- 1:21:09guys are going to fall and who does he think is going to be the
- 1:21:14better player in the NBA. So very interesting.
- 1:21:18It'll be fun to get into that conversation with him on
- 1:21:21Thursday. Well, we've got three days
- 1:21:24before Thursday, or actually 2, and we got a lot of news, ladies
- 1:21:29and gentlemen, and a lot more to get into.
- 1:21:31And we have the Sweet 16 starting Thursday.
- 1:21:33So eventually everybody's going to see my number and my name on
- 1:21:37top of the board because Quinton Coppols is going to dip and I
- 1:21:42will rise and I will. Tell you I told him before it
- 1:21:45happened, man. I told you it wasn't better.
- 1:21:46I just want to let you know who won.
- 1:21:49I just want you to know who won the bracket last year, buddy.
- 1:21:52I did, I did, and I'm going to win this year too, so you can
- 1:21:56kiss my rear. Just so you know, there's
- 1:21:59nothing to do with, well, actually, it's all lock.
- 1:22:02But you're right. Good luck to me.
- 1:22:03Even though I don't believe in luck, I believe in butt plug.
- 1:22:07Anyways, that's it for our show, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:22:10We'll talk to you Thursday. Good night.
- 1:22:11It is the worldwide sports radio network.
