- 0:00Speaker 1: Time out for back to the basics and health care
- 0:02Speaker 1: with Balance Life Chiropractic where with doctor Harley and winter
- 0:04Speaker 1: is definitely here. Now. Last time we talked, it had
- 0:06Speaker 1: been cold and we had like a little dusting of snow. Now, oh,
- 0:09Speaker 1: it's more than a dusting.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got a little bit of snow and you know,
- 0:13Speaker 2: a little bit of ice from some of the melting. Yeah.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And this is the time of year where you can
- 0:18Speaker 1: hurt your back by shoveling snow because you know, you're
- 0:20Speaker 1: twisting and turning and you're maybe lifting when you're not
- 0:23Speaker 1: used to that. But also even if you don't shovel,
- 0:25Speaker 1: you can slip on the ice, twist and turn and
- 0:27Speaker 1: cost some issues with that too.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Right, I thought you it might be good to have
- 0:30Speaker 2: talk about like slips and falls. It's very common this
- 0:33Speaker 2: time of year, especially as you know, you get a
- 0:35Speaker 2: little bit iicier with that snow melt.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And I've seen some video camera footage from like the
- 0:41Speaker 1: ring doorbells that has gone viral where people are slipping,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and there was one that I was like, I don't
- 0:47Speaker 1: know how that was not done on purpose, but the
- 0:49Speaker 1: guy was like running in place and he just kept
- 0:51Speaker 1: running and run and then he finally fell, but it
- 0:53Speaker 1: was like a it was like a thirty second fall.
- 0:55Speaker 2: That crazy. Like we watched those videos to like because
- 0:58Speaker 2: we know something bad's going to happen.
- 1:00Speaker 1: That's why they share it. Nobody shares heyes, here's my
- 1:02Speaker 1: ring doorbell camera from Wednesday. Nothing happens for six hours,
- 1:05Speaker 1: but enjoy right.
- 1:07Speaker 2: And you know, regardless of you know, how you're walking,
- 1:09Speaker 2: if you are you're like that guy running and you fall,
- 1:12Speaker 2: or if you maybe just take a step and slip
- 1:15Speaker 2: and turn and fall, any sort of falls is not
- 1:18Speaker 2: gonna be great for our body because it's very jarring.
- 1:21Speaker 2: You know. We hopefully land on our butts or our
- 1:25Speaker 2: bellies somewhere that's got a little bit more cushioning. That's
- 1:29Speaker 2: the best case scenario if we're gonna fall, you know,
- 1:31Speaker 2: Otherwise we always want to try to break our fall,
- 1:33Speaker 2: so we put our hands out, which you're better off
- 1:37Speaker 2: not trying to catch yourself because that's how you can
- 1:39Speaker 2: really hurt your hands or break your wrist or your
- 1:42Speaker 2: arm or your shoulder. Yeah, it's yeah, that's why we
- 1:46Speaker 2: have a little more cushioning in on our butts or
- 1:48Speaker 2: land on the tush. Yeah, and you don't really want
- 1:50Speaker 2: to get some cush on your knees either, and you
- 1:53Speaker 2: can disscate your knee, hurts your knee, all sorts of
- 1:56Speaker 2: not so fun things. So even though it's not fun
- 1:58Speaker 2: to not catch yourself, your better off trying to not
- 2:01Speaker 2: catch yourself.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And when it comes to ice, you don't even necessarily
- 2:04Speaker 1: have to fall because you could literally just slip and
- 2:06Speaker 1: like pull something, pull a muscle, or knock something out
- 2:09Speaker 1: of place, just slipping on the ice, right.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Trying to catch yourself from keeping you from falling. So
- 2:14Speaker 2: we always get this email from our apartment complex. Walk
- 2:16Speaker 2: like a penguin, but it's very true. When you have
- 2:19Speaker 2: to walk on ice is kind of that waddling point
- 2:21Speaker 2: your toes out a little bit more. It's gonna help
- 2:24Speaker 2: give you a little bit wider center of balance. So
- 2:27Speaker 2: it's going to help you maintain that balance a little
- 2:29Speaker 2: bit better.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And then here's John's tip wear shoes that have some
- 2:32Speaker 1: sort of grip. I was out in my crocks. This
- 2:35Speaker 1: is a couple of years ago. That is a snow
- 2:37Speaker 1: and ice plus crocks.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Bad idea, unless I don't know, do they have off
- 2:41Speaker 2: roading winter.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I think they do. Yeah, my wife I no longer
- 2:44Speaker 1: have crocks. She's not a fan, but she made fun
- 2:47Speaker 1: of me for slipping on the ice in my crocks.
- 2:48Speaker 1: She's like, you know, most people are smart enough to
- 2:51Speaker 1: not wear crocks in the winter.
- 2:52Speaker 2: All the vans aren't necessarily the most grippy either.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So yeah, I got my checkered vans and I wear
- 2:57Speaker 1: those year rounds, so you know what, they're better on
- 2:59Speaker 1: the ice in the crocks.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You can get in some like those ice spikes for
- 3:03Speaker 2: if you put on the shoes. So yeah, if you're
- 3:04Speaker 2: really prone to slipping falling, have a lot of ice
- 3:07Speaker 2: where you're at getting shoes that have you know, you
- 3:10Speaker 2: can get like an ice spike attachment for your shoes.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that can help give you some more traction,
- 3:16Speaker 2: or you're wearing more winter appropriate footwear that has some
- 3:19Speaker 2: more grip on it.
- 3:20Speaker 1: If somebody's already done the slip and they have twisted
- 3:23Speaker 1: or they have fallen and they're not feeling great, chiropractic
- 3:26Speaker 1: might be able to help. If they got a feme
- 3:28Speaker 1: or poking out of the skin, that might not. But
- 3:30Speaker 1: if it's just a little twist or a little of that,
- 3:31Speaker 1: they should stop and see you, and how do they
- 3:33Speaker 1: connect with you at Balance Life Chiropractic.
- 3:35Speaker 2: If you have bones jutting where they're not supposed to
- 3:37Speaker 2: be jutting, definitely don't come to me. Go to the
- 3:40Speaker 2: er you fix this doc. No, although I know what
- 3:43Speaker 2: they say. If you feel like you have like like
- 3:46Speaker 2: you are concerned you might have a small fracture or
- 3:49Speaker 2: wrist or foot, that's where like urgent care is a
- 3:52Speaker 2: good spurt. Say, if you don't know where to go
- 3:53Speaker 2: after you fall, maybe take a quick check. Is anything
- 3:56Speaker 2: physically broken? Can you see it? Can you not walk?
- 3:59Speaker 2: That's like er If you hurts and you're not sure
- 4:01Speaker 2: what's going on, that's for like urgent care. Or if
- 4:04Speaker 2: it's been a few days and you're like, okay, it's
- 4:05Speaker 2: not broken. That's where you come see a chiropractor.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Nice and how do they connect with you that Balanced
