Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to Performance Driven Living, the podcast where we question everything.
- 0:05We don't tip to around tough topics, we walk right into them, not to provoke, but to
- 0:11get closer to what's real.
- 0:13You might not agree with everything you hear, and that's okay.
- 0:17The show isn't about being right, it's about being real.
- 0:20These conversations are meant to stretch your thinking, challenge assumptions, and spark
- 0:25something deeper.
- 0:26The views shared are those of our guests and may not reflect those of the host or team.
- 0:32And while we dive deep into health, performance, and transformation, this is not medical advice.
- 0:38Talk to your doctor before making changes to your health or lifestyle.
- 0:42Take what lands, leave what doesn't, but whatever you do, don't stop questioning.
- 0:55We are here at the Changing Life Indestiny Conference in Plano, Texas, and we are recording
- 1:01for Performance Driven Living, the podcast, and I have the honor of talking here with my
- 1:06longtime friend, Katherine Arnston, from Energy Bits, and Katherine says that she loves
- 1:14me to bits, and she even put it on her shirt for me.
- 1:17I do, I do.
- 1:18I love everyone to bits.
- 1:20Katherine.
- 1:21But mostly you.
- 1:22Oh, well, naturally.
- 1:24So, Katherine, I have to tell you, like, how do I want to phrase this?
- 1:28Like, you talk about, I know exactly, like, I've known you in your brand for years now.
- 1:33We see each other at all these things.
- 1:35We've shared Uber rides even.
- 1:37The reality is that you talk about a topic that no one wants to talk about, and it's
- 1:42kind of one of those things where you've marketed something that no one ever even considered
- 1:46to be a thing.
- 1:47And for those of you who don't know Katherine Arnston, she is the science, and the brains,
- 1:53and the energy, and the creative, and she's everything behind a brand called Energy Bits,
- 2:00which is literally algae.
- 2:01Yes, we sell algae tablets, spirulina and chlorella algae tablets.
- 2:05Nothing else.
- 2:06That's all we do.
- 2:07We are algae experts.
- 2:08But most people's experience with algae is trying to clean it off the fish tank, right?
- 2:12Oh, I know.
- 2:13And you're eating it.
- 2:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:15You need to first connect some thoughts there.
- 2:17What made you want to lick the fish tank?
- 2:20Well, I was mining my own business with a corporate career, and then 16, 17 years ago, my
- 2:28younger sister in Canada, because I'm actually Canadian, developed breast cancer.
- 2:32She's completely fine.
- 2:33She completely healed.
- 2:34But her oncologist told her to change her diet to an alpha-line diet, because it would
- 2:38help with her healing.
- 2:39They didn't tell her what an alpha-line diet was, or why it was good for her.
- 2:42So my sister called me because I love her.
- 2:45And I wrote a little book called the algae love story, which we can talk about later on,
- 2:48because it was started with love.
- 2:50But it turned out that alpha-line diet was a plant-based diet because of the phytonutriens
- 2:54that built your immune system, because she was going through chemotherapy.
- 2:57And also it turns out there's a scientist by the name of Otto Warburg, who won a Nobel
- 3:01Prize in the 30s for discovering that cancer cannot exist in cells that are slightly alkaline.
- 3:08So I have to believe that's the other reason why she won an alkaline diet.
- 3:10Anyways, I found her foods to eat, would not to eat, she did go through chemo completely
- 3:14healed.
- 3:15I started learning about plant-based nutrition.
- 3:17This was 16 years ago.
- 3:18Nobody was talking about plant-based nutrition then.
- 3:21I thought this is too powerful.
- 3:22I gave up my corporate career.
- 3:24I went back to school, studied nutrition.
- 3:26And then I taught plant-based nutrition at corporations and hospitals for a year, trying
- 3:31to get people to eat more vegetables.
- 3:34And this is what truly led me to algae, because as I was telling people what to eat and
- 3:38why it was important for them.
- 3:40I said, oh, I know, my mother's been trying to get me to eat more vegetables, but I don't
- 3:43like the taste or gives me gas or my kids won't eat them or I throw them away.
- 3:47So I thought, okay, I have to find something that gives people the nutrition, the healing
- 3:52properties of vegetables without any of the downsides, without the lectins, the oxalates,
- 3:58the other down negative nutrients.
- 4:00And I just went back to everything I'd found for my sister.
- 4:03And when I got to algae, that's when the miracle happened.
- 4:06First of all, it's the most alkaline food in the world, it's the most nutrient-dense
- 4:10food in the world.
- 4:11We have a quote from NASA that says, one gram of algae has the same nutrition as a thousand
- 4:15grams of fruits of vegetables, one to a thousand.
- 4:19There's 100,000 studies documenting health benefits of algae, reducing inflammation, preventing
- 4:24heart disease, preventing cancer, preventing Alzheimer's, preventing stomach distress, improving
- 4:29sleep.
- 4:30Absolutely, every single health issue that we currently face has been proven in science
- 4:35to be corrected or prevented by the nutrients found in algae, many of which aren't found
- 4:40in any other food in the universe.
- 4:43And algae's been used in Asia for 60 years because algae is not ponds gum, it's an agricultural
- 4:50crop.
- 4:51Yes, it's everywhere, but it's grown as an agricultural crop.
- 4:54And here's the best part, it's grown and pressed into these little tiny tablets.
- 4:59And so each one of these tablets has the same nutrition as an entire plate of vegetables.
- 5:04And most people swallow them, but I chew them.
- 5:07So while I'm talking to you, Mark, I just have to play the vegetables.
- 5:10This is the future of fast food.
- 5:13So it's not ponds gum, although it does clean up your beaches and it cleans up your
- 5:17body too.
- 5:18Algae is the clean up group, but it has the highest concentration of protein in the world,
- 5:22the highest chlorophyll in the world, 40 vitamins and minerals.
- 5:25Things in here.
- 5:26Wait, you're telling me the things that are good for us already exist in nature?
- 5:30This is brand new information.
- 5:32Who would have thought of this?
- 5:34What in the world?
- 5:36Amazing.
- 5:37Well, and I will say, I can't take credit for algae because it's the first life, first
- 5:41life on earth.
- 5:42By the way, spirulina as a bacteria, chlorella is a plant.
- 5:46But the first life on earth was a cyanobacteria, like spirulina.
- 5:51And so there's something spiritual about being the first life on earth.
- 5:54So I call spirulina, spirulina.
- 5:58Right.
- 5:59Yeah.
- 6:00Anyways, it's mother nature at our finest.
- 6:03I will take credit for growing it safely and purely.
- 6:06So we preserve all the nutrients so that it has the highest efficacy because there's
- 6:11a lot of other algae that you can buy on Amazon or Trader Joe's or Target.
- 6:15But it's lower price than ours because we're considered a prestige high quality product.
- 6:21But it's like getting a great deal on a great car.
- 6:25What you lift the hood and there's no engine looks good, doesn't perform.
- 6:30So you're all about performance.
- 6:31You want performance and you get it from algae that has grown carefully to preserve all
- 6:36these critical nutrients.
- 6:38Things like we grow ours in triple-village spring mountain water so there's no toxins
- 6:42absorbed by the algae.
- 6:44We don't use high heat to dry it so we preserve important nutrients like one called, it's
- 6:48a mouthful, superoxidizmutez, but it protects your mitochondria from free radical damage.
- 6:55It's deactivated by high heat.
- 6:57There's also a blue pigment found in spirulina called phycosine and doesn't exist anywhere
- 7:02else in the universe, proven to kill cancer cells, but deactivated by high heat.
- 7:07And by the way, for natural cooking, is it great alternative to all these unhealthy food
- 7:12guys that we're seeing all over the place, right?
- 7:15So I tell people, I tell people, please don't take fish oil because it's usually rancid
- 7:20by the time you get it.
- 7:21And I remind people, where do you think the fish get the omega-3 from anyways?
- 7:26They get it from algae, right?
- 7:27So you save yourself, save the rancid, save the ocean, save the fish, and use spirulina
- 7:32particularly.
- 7:33So Catherine, I love this clarella spirulina story.
- 7:37Like I actually have these, I told you we've been forehand, like I have a drawer of them
- 7:41in my office and during the day, I'll open a pack and I actually, the best way that I
- 7:47found to eat them because some people swallowing them, it's like swallowing a pill, they don't
- 7:51like pills.
- 7:52You said you chew them.
- 7:53Yeah.
- 7:54I actually take it.
- 7:55And this is actually advice you gave me years ago was to actually, I actually put them
- 7:58in like a little pouch with pistachios.
- 7:59Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:00That's my favorite.
- 8:01We have some pistachios that are booth here today.
- 8:03Yeah.
- 8:04It's like a little handful of pistachios with energy bits mixed in.
- 8:07Yeah.
- 8:08And I just chew them like pistachios in a case amazing because it tastes like the pistachios
- 8:12and you get the plate of vegetables in every tablet.
- 8:15And actually, the pistachios are one of the low lectin oxlates.
- 8:18By the way, anyone who is carnivore, this is for you too because you're not getting
- 8:21greens.
- 8:22Probably people go carnivore because they had autoimmune and lectin oxlates may cause
- 8:27it's stomach distress.
- 8:28There are no lectin sir oxlates in algae because they are in plant plants which are land
- 8:34based and they develop them evolutionarily to protect themselves from bugs and predators.
- 8:39Yes.
- 8:40Well, algae came from the ocean.
- 8:41It's never been a land plant, never had to develop lectin sir oxlates.
- 8:44So carnivores, paleo people, listen up, this is not just for vegans, this is just for
- 8:48anybody who wants high protein, high nourishment and does not want to spend the time or the
- 8:55money because if you took 10 tablets a day of spiruline and 10 chlorella and we sell them
- 8:59in large bags and we have a discount code, it works out to a dollar a day.
- 9:03Now so 10 would fail nutritional gaps.
- 9:0630 is what we recommend for therapeutic amounts.
- 9:09So if you're trying to correct a condition or you want to prevent a condition, you really
- 9:12need 30.
- 9:13Like more our NHL players, they put, they take 75 spirulina before a game and 75 chlorella
- 9:19after a game because they spirulina gives you energy and focus gives you extreme performance.
- 9:25We have ultra runners, they run 100 miles with just spirulina and water and the NHL players
- 9:31they want it cause they want the energy on the ice, the sharp movement, the focus on
- 9:36I guess as when Gretzky said skate towards the where the puck is going.
- 9:40So there's a lot of fast movement.
- 9:43That's what spirulina does.
- 9:44It gives you energy and focus and then after the game, all that energy and focus, well
- 9:49let me not focus, but the energy causes lactic acid to build up.
- 9:52So chlorella is a detoxing algae.
- 9:55It pulls out all heavy metals, glyphosate pesticides, lactic acid, alcohol, by the way, and removes
- 10:01it.
- 10:02So they do two completely different things.
- 10:04I love it.
- 10:05I love everything about that and it's for from a performance standpoint, obviously energy
- 10:10gets are doing a lot for a person to physically perform the game and mentally perform when
- 10:16they're there completely up leveling their game.
- 10:18But I want to pivot for just a minute in our conversation because I know you could talk
- 10:22about algae for hours.
- 10:23Oh, I know.
- 10:24I'm in love with algae.
- 10:25I want to I want to take a quick pivot here and the pivot I want to make is actually
- 10:30performance driven living is this idea that we want to excel in all areas of life.
- 10:34And sometimes I'm going to say when we're about to like Dan Pompa last night talks about
- 10:38this idea of when God's got you to a point that you're about to level up, that's when
- 10:42it gets scary.
- 10:43Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:44And sometimes for people what holds them back from their next stage of performance is
- 10:48honestly just a fear factor.
- 10:50Yeah.
- 10:51What's going to happen?
- 10:52This is uncomfortable.
- 10:53I've never done this one.
- 10:54Yeah.
- 10:55It feels like you left a corporate career and started peddling algae.
- 10:59Yeah.
- 11:00With no nutrition background or science background.
- 11:02Correct.
- 11:03I want you to speak to to listeners who may be I want the Catherine Arnston story here
- 11:09more than the algae bits.
- 11:10Sure.
- 11:11I want you.
- 11:12Okay.
- 11:13What is going through the mind?
- 11:14Yeah.
- 11:15Now, I don't want to disclose this, but I know your age and I was 16 years ago, that would
- 11:19have been a scary move.
- 11:20Yeah.
- 11:21Yeah.
- 11:22Yeah.
- 11:23I was 52 and I'm almost 70, 70.
- 11:24I am next year.
- 11:25I am turning 70.
- 11:26Yeah.
- 11:27I keep telling myself, this is age inappropriate.
- 11:28But then I said, wait a second, who's determining what's age appropriate?
- 11:32I should be the one determining what's age appropriate, not the frickin society.
- 11:35I'm 50 in a couple of months, and I am 100% like, I feel younger than I ever have.
- 11:40Exactly.
- 11:41Well, passion and purpose will do that for you.
- 11:43That's the one thing.
- 11:44So when I found out, I started reading all this science, I discovered something called
- 11:49PubMed.
- 11:50I'd been in business for 25 years, I'd corporate, other entrepreneurial activities, nothing
- 11:57to do with science.
- 11:58I knew nothing.
- 11:59I didn't even know what unnucleus was, so we're talking really basic.
- 12:03So by helping my sister, I discovered this research online library called PubMed, and
- 12:10I started reading it.
- 12:11But I knew nothing.
- 12:12But I thought, oh my God, this is great, this is so interesting, and algae does all this,
- 12:16this can't possibly be true, or I would know about it, or the world would know about
- 12:20it, but the trouble is scientists like to talk to other scientists and they don't talk
- 12:23to you about it.
- 12:25As I was learning about it and realized it was true, and I thought, oh my God, I have
- 12:30to do something with this, but then the fear, but I don't have any background, but you
- 12:34have to do something.
- 12:35But I didn't have any money, no science background whatsoever.
- 12:41My family thought I was having a breakdown.
- 12:43My friends thought I was crazy.
- 12:44I literally chained myself to my computer for two years, the only things I could afford
- 12:50to eat were eggs and algae, and the algae I didn't know, and you know what, my two favorite
- 12:55things are right now still, eggs and algae.
- 12:57So back to your question, what was it?
- 13:01And I encouraged everybody to do this.
- 13:04I just knew it made no sense whatsoever, but I thought, there's this quiet little whispering
- 13:10voice that said, you have to do this, you have to do this.
- 13:14It was the universe connecting with me, and I kept arguing, find somebody else with
- 13:18the science background, I don't know science.
- 13:20You said nature needs a brand ambassador sometimes, but it chose you.
- 13:25But I've never been a quitter, and I'll keep going until the universe tells me to stop.
- 13:33And honestly, zero money, I'll be honest with you, I filed for bankruptcy during this
- 13:39timeframe.
- 13:40I was in foreclosure for three years.
- 13:42I had my car repossessed.
- 13:43I mean, I'm an MBA in the school I went to in Canada as Canada's equivalent of Harvard
- 13:48at the University of the Ivy School of Business.
- 13:50It was so embarrassing, but I thought, I can't give this up.
- 13:55I have been selected for whatever reason.
- 13:58So I just kept going and hungered down, and I entered contest.
- 14:02I entered international contest to get visibility.
- 14:06I won an award from Entrepreneur Magazine for the third entrepreneur, but they flew me
- 14:13out to California and gave me this big award, and $15,000 check, which I used to create
- 14:19new packaging.
- 14:20I taught myself package design, because I thought, I've got to get this out to people.
- 14:24You need a new packaging.
- 14:25You need packaging.
- 14:26How do you do packaging?
- 14:27I'm a marketing guy, and I told you before this, that's one of the things I've always
- 14:30loved about your product, is your packaging is incredible.
- 14:32It didn't come out of the gate looking as beautiful as it does now, so I went to a whole
- 14:38food.
- 14:39I got all the boxes for Lara bars, kind bars.
- 14:42I lined them up on my dining table, I measured the length, the width, the height, what was
- 14:45on the front, what was on the back, and that I made my own boxes on, because I had no
- 14:50Adobe skill on PowerPoint.
- 14:53I would print it up on paper, cut it out, and make miniature boxes.
- 14:58I still have them, because if anyone ever doubts that I designed everything, I have all
- 15:03the miniatures.
- 15:04So that's how I designed everything, the boxes, the bags.
- 15:07Then I would find someone who had a die line, but as someone, I knew this was my path.
- 15:13It just felt so natural, and I was at peace.
- 15:18You know when you found your path when you're at peace, and it made zero sense whatsoever,
- 15:24but over the course of 15 years, I taught myself so much science that I have come up with
- 15:29an answer to why people are aging, and it's this damaged mitochondria, and it stops.
- 15:36The damage stops because of a nutrient found in algae, called superoxidizmatase, that
- 15:41your body doesn't make after the age of 40.
- 15:43And again, the fear kept creeping in.
- 15:46How can me, a self taught scientist, I called myself a cis and scientist, find a possible
- 15:51solution for chronic disease when there are tens of thousands of scientists with tens of
- 15:57thousands of PhDs behind them, that they can't figure out.
- 16:01And here I am, I think I figured it out.
- 16:03But I just kept going, and then I decided, you know, a lot of people didn't trust me
- 16:07or believe what I was telling them, because I didn't have a PhD or an MD, so I said, okay,
- 16:12I'll get one.
- 16:13So last year, I graduated with my PhD in natural health, so now the people will feel comfortable
- 16:19and I will feel comfortable.
- 16:20So my message to anyone listening, when you're trying to figure out what you're here for,
- 16:26first of all, it's to find joy.
- 16:28You're here to find joy.
- 16:30Now my joy is nothing like my two sisters joy, which they have families.
- 16:35They just thought I was this weirdo, and I'm not like them.
- 16:38I love them to death, and like one of them was the reason I started this, but I had to
- 16:43give up what they thought I should be fine using as joy.
- 16:48I had to give that up, because my joy is unique to me.
- 16:53And what I'm doing now, this is my joy.
- 16:56Getting this out to market, finding the messaging, helping people be healthy.
- 17:00I now have built a team.
- 17:01I'm so proud of my team, and I'm proud of me, because I've been an entrepreneur as
- 17:05solo-proneur and building a company and a team is a completely different dynamic.
- 17:10Oh my gosh, it's the worst part of the job.
- 17:12Yeah, I know.
- 17:13You have to become a leader, not the doer.
- 17:15You have to be the inspireer and coach them, and you're not working with personalities.
- 17:19It is very time consuming, it's very difficult.
- 17:22Well, Keith, I've got to say, like entrepreneurs, and I say this, I'm a marketing guy.
- 17:27We know that.
- 17:28My business rise is we're a marketing agency, and I work with entrepreneurs all day long,
- 17:34and they're all crazy.
- 17:36Every single one of them are crazy.
- 17:38Me included you, including.
- 17:41And I try to say this, because there's a lot of entrepreneurs out there who don't get
- 17:45moving.
- 17:46I say they're entrepreneurial in spirit, but they don't move in.
- 17:48It's that fear gap.
- 17:49It's that what if gap, it's that, but this, but this, and you set bankruptcy for a closure.
- 17:56That's amazing.
- 17:57Yeah.
- 17:58I remember a point in my own business journey where I sold my car to meet payroll.
- 18:01Yeah.
- 18:02And I was like, I'm just that in that there is, it's a burn the boats, right?
- 18:07Burn the boats.
- 18:08There's no sailing home.
- 18:09We're burning the boats, because we're on land now, and we're sticking with it.
- 18:13And there's just, there's a grit, there's a, there's a, there's a determination about
- 18:19entrepreneurs.
- 18:20Yeah.
- 18:21And I think I love coming to conferences like this, and part of it is we all go back
- 18:26to our offices, and we deal with our daily struggles, and you know, whatever, and entrepreneurs,
- 18:30we all get cash flow, and we all get, you know, the problems and dealing with people,
- 18:34like all the things we hate, they're part of the part of the ante.
- 18:37Yeah.
- 18:38But I think there's a lot of business potential business people entrepreneurs out there
- 18:42that are like, is there something that we can do?
- 18:46Absolutely.
- 18:47And that does that.
- 18:48And my own website at themarking.com, actually, the words at the top are lead with passion.
- 18:52Yeah.
- 18:53And it's like, find what you love, and just absolutely force it, because you say the
- 18:59universe called you into this, and it's like, I believe that there, there is a call on
- 19:03each of us, and a call on each of us actually brings us into a place where we are in alignment.
- 19:09I was just talking with Philip over at Leeland, and it's like, where every part of us, our
- 19:13body, our spirit, our, our mind, our soul, all of it gets aligned.
- 19:18And I love your story, because it's, it looked crazy on paper.
- 19:22Yeah.
- 19:23But you never questioned the alignment side, it was made complete sense.
- 19:26So what I would say to any entrepreneur, or anyone who wants to follow a path that maybe
- 19:32your family hasn't ever, uh, followed, or your community hasn't followed, because you
- 19:36struggle because you say, because we're, when we're kids, you never question, when you're
- 19:42learning how to write a bicycle, you never question what if you fall off the bicycle.
- 19:46Of course, you're going to fall off the bicycle, because it's new, which you never question
- 19:50it.
- 19:51So you never say, what if it's wrong?
- 19:53As we get older, we become more fear based.
- 19:56And so I struggled for so many years, and this is what, I'm sure everyone else struggles,
- 20:01because you'll say to yourself, what if I'm wrong?
- 20:05What if I'm wrong?
- 20:06Right.
- 20:07And so I flipped it recently, and I said, what if I'm right?
- 20:11What if I'm right?
- 20:13And that just, just, I got, just joy.
- 20:16I might, I got goosebumps on my, because you know what turns out, I am right.
- 20:20But I had to go through that transition of, what if I'm wrong, whatever, because when
- 20:24you're a kid, you never question getting on that bicycle.
- 20:27And society punishes us for being, for making mistakes.
- 20:32And mistakes are learning lessons.
- 20:34You need to flip it and, and not be afraid of making mistakes.
- 20:38They're a learning experience.
- 20:40Every, every time I see children, especially when they're wearing shorts and the summer,
- 20:43and I live in Florida, so that's where you're around.
- 20:46And they've always got nicks and bangs and bruises and scrapes all over them.
- 20:51I mean, that's just part of being a child, right?
- 20:53And it's like, and somebody said something about kids, they're just always falling down
- 20:57there.
- 20:58And I'm like, yeah, we need to be more like that as adults.
- 21:00Exactly.
- 21:01Exactly.
- 21:02Because we, we try to, we try to coat everybody in something, and I just recently finished
- 21:05a book by Jonathan Height, if you know who Jonathan Height is.
- 21:08He's incredible.
- 21:09He's a social scientist.
- 21:11Yeah.
- 21:12And it's called the coddling of the American mind.
- 21:14Oh, yeah.
- 21:15And it's this whole idea that we just tried to live every, but wrap everybody in bubble
- 21:19wrap.
- 21:20Yeah.
- 21:21And it's like, yeah, because we've created this, this culture, I would say, that if everybody's
- 21:26in bubble wrap and you fall down, nobody gets hurt, and it's like, no, like some of the
- 21:29best lessons I've learned in 50 years are the ones that hurt the friggin' most.
- 21:34Yeah.
- 21:35Like, and, and I always say to entrepreneurs who are listening, like, just do it.
- 21:39Like surround yourself with other entrepreneurs, surround yourself with people who've been
- 21:45through it.
- 21:46Who can tell you, look, here I am on the other side, like, like, it made no sense in the
- 21:50planning.
- 21:51But here we are.
- 21:52Yeah.
- 21:53I, I lived in Boston, Massachusetts for the last 35 years, although I've moved recently
- 21:57to Miami, and there's a, I, you know Miami, no, I moved to Miami, yeah, yeah, I know
- 22:01that.
- 22:02We're neighbors.
- 22:03I'm in Florida now.
- 22:04Coke and a grove is where I, yeah, I know that.
- 22:06I'm so, I'm so in love with being there, I'm being aware, but there's a college in Boston
- 22:10called Babson.
- 22:11Yeah.
- 22:12For a couple of years, they had ads and all the bus shelters, they ads all over the city,
- 22:17and they glamorized entrepreneurship, because that's one of their programs.
- 22:20And I think that's doing a disservice to entrepreneurs.
- 22:23There's about 0.001 percent glamour, and the rest of it is grunt and it's mistakes.
- 22:29It's failures.
- 22:30It's pivots.
- 22:31And so you need to get in there, like you said, just do it, and you will make mistakes,
- 22:37but you'll get stronger.
- 22:38It's like, you know, if you don't go to the gym and lift weight, that's more than you
- 22:42can carry, you're not going to strengthen that muscle either.
- 22:44Yes.
- 22:45You have to embrace difficulty as something positive, not something negative.
- 22:51And you're right.
- 22:52The society has taught us that we need to be safe all the time.
- 22:56Well, no, no, we don't.
- 22:58Not for breakthroughs.
- 22:59Not for breakthroughs.
- 23:00But make sure that you are surrounded by people who understand what's going on in
- 23:04your world, because it is that band of brothers kind of mindset.
- 23:09And I'll tell you one of the, I live by a word now, and my team knows it.
- 23:12I say yes to darn everything, but it's because I believe in the power of proximity.
- 23:17And just being in the room, like being here, being involved in what goes on here, it's
- 23:23like the relationships that I built and the connections and the knowledge, the things
- 23:27I'm telling you, learning about LG, right?
- 23:29Like, I wouldn't know that if I didn't just show up, and we've unfortunately also kind
- 23:34of put ourselves in a world that I'd, I'd take in the news and learn everything from
- 23:37Instagram.
- 23:38Yeah.
- 23:39And it's like, that's great.
- 23:40Like, there's a lot of good things on there.
- 23:41And there's a lot of terrible things on there.
- 23:42But at the end of the day, the reality is is that we, we're, we're relational by nature.
- 23:47Yeah.
- 23:48And I think more humans, particularly entrepreneurs who tend to isolate.
- 23:52Yeah.
- 23:53They tend to solopreneur.
- 23:54Yeah.
- 23:55Yeah.
- 23:56Yeah.
- 23:57And it's like, we need people.
- 23:58We need community.
- 23:59And to the extent that a lot of these mastermind groups have popped up all over the place.
- 24:01Yeah.
- 24:02Yeah.
- 24:03I'm a big fan.
- 24:04You know that both belong to the CHS group with Michael Fishman.
- 24:07Yeah.
- 24:08Probably one of the best decisions I've ever made in life.
- 24:10And I laughed because Michael tried to get me to go for years.
- 24:12Yeah.
- 24:13And I kept saying no.
- 24:14It's, in the first time I wait, I haven't, I haven't missed a such a long time.
- 24:18I know.
- 24:19I know.
- 24:20I'm you three.
- 24:21So it makes me laugh.
- 24:22Katherine.
- 24:23Yeah.
- 24:24Yeah.
- 24:25I am so honored that you joined us.
- 24:26Thank you.
- 24:27And I love the, I love your story so much for Beyond.
- 24:28Thank you so much.
- 24:29And I should, I should say, Dr. Katherine Ernst.
- 24:30Yeah.
- 24:31Well, yeah.
- 24:32It's impressive what you've done and the fact that your story is this grit story from
- 24:36zero to where you are now.
- 24:38We've been doubling revenue every year for the last three years, but you know, we've
- 24:42earned the rights of our success.
- 24:44Yes.
- 24:45And the other thing is the trouble with isolating is that you, you think in your head what
- 24:49people want, you need to get out to the market.
- 24:51You need to talk to people because what you think is what's needed is, is, it may be completely
- 24:57immune.
- 24:58This match or it's the wrong timing.
- 25:00So you need to get out there and just do some reality testing.
- 25:06And there's not, again, nothing wrong, but you need to pivot it.
- 25:09It can't be about you, it can't be about your ego.
- 25:11Yeah.
- 25:12It has to be about being of service.
- 25:15Thank you again so much for joining us today.
