Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's media podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Brody Henderson, Giannis Putellis, Ryan Callahan,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Randall Williams, Chester Floyd Christine Siwiki, Corey Culkins, and Alyssa Smith.
- 0:25Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions for
- 0:28Speaker 2: Meat Eater's four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 0:31Speaker 2: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 0:34Speaker 2: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing
- 0:38Speaker 2: for the start of the week. This week we're updating
- 0:40Speaker 2: our total win counter, which we haven't revisited in months.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Brody has a demanding lead with twenty seven career wins.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Demanding Demanding. That's followed by Steve command nineteen it could
- 0:54Speaker 2: be both, it could be demanding and command sure. That's
- 0:57Speaker 2: followed by Steve Vernell with nineteen Yeah Honest, Poutellus with twelve,
- 1:01Speaker 2: Randall Williams with eight, Ryan Callahan with five, and Clay
- 1:05Speaker 2: Nucombe with four. The other eighteen wins come from other
- 1:08Speaker 2: crew members, crew members, family members and Meat eater guests.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Does that eight of Randolds include an asters.
- 1:15Speaker 2: No, it includes the last episode though. Really we had
- 1:20Speaker 2: some controversy on the last episode where the players in
- 1:23Speaker 2: the room had to vote on if Randall would get
- 1:24Speaker 2: it right. Here's the cool thing about the life to
- 1:26Speaker 2: a Randall. If we had any controversy, which Steve would
- 1:29Speaker 2: manage to create every now and then, we could just
- 1:32Speaker 2: throw it out to the thousand people in the audience
- 1:34Speaker 2: and be like, what do you guys think to Steve
- 1:36Speaker 2: get this right? The people and then they would boom,
- 1:39Speaker 2: They would really give it.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Your little eight would not have flown in most maybe
- 1:45Speaker 4: in Davenport, Iowa, but the other.
- 1:48Speaker 2: He's from Ohio, the Cleveland. Think the players should decide.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I think Bill should.
- 1:52Speaker 5: I just would like to point out that Freddy, the
- 1:55Speaker 5: rest of the people in the room unanimously consented to
- 1:59Speaker 5: or me that point.
- 2:01Speaker 6: But Brody's rethinking it and here we are today.
- 2:03Speaker 7: You know what was funny about Live Tour Trivia is
- 2:07Speaker 7: the folks that you know well, everybody knows well, they
- 2:12Speaker 7: all still put their names on top of the board.
- 2:14Speaker 7: Mm hmm, which I was wondering if that's just kind
- 2:16Speaker 7: of how they get focused, like Gis is over there
- 2:19Speaker 7: really well, I prefer it making sure nobody's confused.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I prefer you write your name on your board.
- 2:24Speaker 8: Cal.
- 2:25Speaker 2: That way, I can just look at the whiteboards when
- 2:26Speaker 2: I go around the room.
- 2:27Speaker 9: Jones is making a very strong statement this game.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Bold that just that just benefits me. Now, traditionally, at
- 2:35Speaker 2: this point in the show, we do a zero percenter question.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But it's a new year here on Trivia, so we
- 2:40Speaker 2: are going to replace this segment with something else. Here's
- 2:44Speaker 2: what we're going to do. If you have a question
- 2:46Speaker 2: for the crew in regards to Trivia, like maybe you
- 2:49Speaker 2: want to know Phil's pre show routine, or maybe you
- 2:52Speaker 2: want to know how Brody got so darn good at trivia,
- 2:55Speaker 2: or maybe you want to know if Cal even likes
- 2:57Speaker 2: being here. Whatever your curiosity is an email to send
- 3:02Speaker 2: an email to Trivia at the medeater dot com with
- 3:05Speaker 2: the subject line FAQ, and we will start answering some
- 3:08Speaker 2: of those questions at the top of the show. That's
- 3:11Speaker 2: Trivia at the Medeater dot com with the subject line FAQ.
- 3:15Speaker 2: We will start that new segment next week. Now, we
- 3:19Speaker 2: have some housekeeping to get to since the inception of trivia.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I've referred to the information I read after each question
- 3:25Speaker 2: as the follow up factoid, But at the Detroit stop
- 3:29Speaker 2: on the Meat Eater Live Tour, Billy Hoffman told me
- 3:32Speaker 2: that this has a real name and it's not the
- 3:34Speaker 2: follow up factoid. According to Billy, and I've confirmed this
- 3:38Speaker 2: with some googling. The trivia community refers to that as
- 3:42Speaker 2: flavor text. TV tropes dot com says that flavor text
- 3:46Speaker 2: is a vital part of video games, board games, and
- 3:49Speaker 2: of course trivia. They define flavor texts as being quote
- 3:52Speaker 2: any text in a game that is completely unrelated to
- 3:56Speaker 2: the actual rules or gameplay and is included merely for effect.
- 4:00Speaker 2: So going forward, we'll be referring to those snippets as
- 4:04Speaker 2: flavor test.
- 4:05Speaker 9: I'm sorry, I don't like it.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Yeah, why do you want to be like everyone else?
- 4:08Speaker 6: With veto veto the alliteration?
- 4:12Speaker 5: Is this right now? Flavor text? Are we flavor texting?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Well not yet. I like flavor text. It's like, uh,
- 4:18Speaker 2: it's there, you go.
- 4:23Speaker 9: What did you say?
- 4:24Speaker 2: Chester kind of like flavor test.
- 4:26Speaker 8: He's got fiery on the brand also fell in the
- 4:28Speaker 8: Kingdom of Guy Fiery.
- 4:30Speaker 2: The factoid thing has been flawed from the beginning, because
- 4:33Speaker 2: I think someone told me factoid means that it's like
- 4:37Speaker 2: only not really a fact, it's just like sort of
- 4:40Speaker 2: a belief or something.
- 4:41Speaker 9: Yeah, that's kind of like a lot of the answers
- 4:43Speaker 9: just like that.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you should do a branded thing like
- 4:46Speaker 5: Spencer Shares or something like that.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Okay, maybe it's not flavor text. Maybe we'll have enough
- 4:52Speaker 2: your beard no conditioner, that's right, you say. Now, the
- 4:57Speaker 2: Shelby Index for today's round is a five, so I'm
- 5:00Speaker 2: us on perfect score alert. With that, we're onto the
- 5:03Speaker 2: game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look, I need
- 5:08Speaker 2: to know what I stand.
- 5:09Speaker 1: To win everything.
- 5:14Speaker 7: Shoulders two and one.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Get it all done with one shot discount?
- 5:21Speaker 7: Ye, not a high dollar.
- 5:24Speaker 8: You haven't playing a lot of Balder's Gate three Spencer,
- 5:26Speaker 8: and there's a lot of flavor text in that game.
- 5:28Speaker 8: And it's sort of like when you're going through a
- 5:30Speaker 8: dungeon you find just like a vase and you'll and
- 5:32Speaker 8: you put your little cursor over it, and it'll say
- 5:34Speaker 8: something like this vase looks cracked and worn and it's
- 5:37Speaker 8: covered in a layer of dust, and like, I feel
- 5:40Speaker 8: like you're your factoids are more than that. It's more
- 5:42Speaker 8: than just like a description of something. And you're adding,
- 5:46Speaker 8: like can I smash somebody with this vease?
- 5:47Speaker 7: Correct?
- 5:48Speaker 2: This vase looks cracked and worn?
- 5:51Speaker 7: That right?
- 5:51Speaker 8: Yeah, it's incredible.
- 5:53Speaker 2: All we need to have a name for is whatever
- 5:55Speaker 2: col adds to the drop that Phil plays, because it does,
- 6:00Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 6:00Speaker 8: We can make a montage of over the drop and
- 6:03Speaker 8: it would be a couple of minutes long, and the
- 6:04Speaker 8: whole episode of whatever Cal has to add.
- 6:07Speaker 9: He can't go the.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Only person who's heard the drop before, like I is
- 6:13Speaker 7: no longer guess.
- 6:14Speaker 10: Me psyched up?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Man?
- 6:15Speaker 2: I love it. Question one the topic is conservation, and
- 6:19Speaker 2: this first great question comes to us via Tim Brown.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Which of these agencies manages the most acres of land?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Is it the Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, US
- 6:32Speaker 2: Forest Service, or Army Corps of Engineers? Which of these
- 6:37Speaker 2: agencies manages the most acres of land? The Bureau of Reclamation,
- 6:43Speaker 2: National Park Service, US Forest Service, or Army Corps of Engineers?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Randall with a quick answer, Yanni with a quick answer.
- 6:55Speaker 2: How do you boys feel about your answer?
- 6:58Speaker 7: Feel pretty good?
- 6:59Speaker 5: And you know the great thing is if I get
- 7:01Speaker 5: it wrong, I'll learn something today.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Okay, you'll learn it in the flavor text. Yanni, you
- 7:05Speaker 2: think you got this right?
- 7:06Speaker 6: Go on with the gut.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Which manages the most acres of land? Bureau of Reclamation,
- 7:12Speaker 2: National Park Service, US Forest Service, Army Corps of Engineers.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 7:22Speaker 2: We have Cal saying US Forest Service, Cal excuse me,
- 7:26Speaker 2: Randall saying US Forest Service, Cal saying US Forest Service,
- 7:29Speaker 2: Chester saying Forest Service, Corey saying Forest Service, Christine saying
- 7:33Speaker 2: Forest Service, Alyssa saying Army Corps of Engineers, Brody saying
- 7:38Speaker 2: Forest Service, Yanni saying Forest Service. They got it. The
- 7:41Speaker 2: correct answer is the US Forest Service. The Bureau of
- 7:46Speaker 2: Reclamation manages six point five million acres, which is about
- 7:50Speaker 2: the size of Massachusetts. The Army Corps manages twenty four
- 7:54Speaker 2: million acres, which is about the size of Indiana. The
- 7:57Speaker 2: National Park Service manages eighty five million acres, which is
- 8:00Speaker 2: about the size of New Mexico, And the US Forest
- 8:03Speaker 2: Service manages one hundred and ninety three million acres, which
- 8:07Speaker 2: is about the size of Texas. Question two the topic
- 8:10Speaker 2: is cooking. This spice comes in varieties such as sweet hot, smoked,
- 8:17Speaker 2: Hungarian and Spanish. Topic is cooking. This spice comes in
- 8:26Speaker 2: varieties such as sweet, hot, smoked, Hungarian, and Spanish. Brody
- 8:31Speaker 2: is very confident, Brody, you got this one right, m
- 8:36Speaker 2: one of my favorites. Oh there's a hint if anyone
- 8:38Speaker 2: knows Brody's kitchen preference too.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I feel like you can put a bunch of it
- 8:45Speaker 4: in and you're like, man, couldn't tell hints?
- 8:51Speaker 3: Maybe maybe not, Maybe you're just buying bad quality stuff.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Mmm, Cal, Randall, do you boys agree?
- 8:57Speaker 7: I feel like there's a big difference with between smoked
- 9:01Speaker 7: and sweet. That's true.
- 9:06Speaker 2: The smoked.
- 9:07Speaker 6: The smoked has like a smoky flavor.
- 9:10Speaker 2: You don't say, and it's like triple the price. It
- 9:13Speaker 2: seems like. Does everybody have an answer?
- 9:16Speaker 6: Mm mmmm, you know it?
- 9:18Speaker 7: Alyssa.
- 9:20Speaker 2: This spice comes in variety such as sweet, hot, smoked, Hungarian,
- 9:25Speaker 2: and Spanish. Alyssa, I think we're waiting on you take
- 9:31Speaker 2: your time. Yanni's the only one who ever gets impatient
- 9:35Speaker 2: with these things. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal
- 9:42Speaker 2: your answers. We have Randall saying Paprika, Cal saying paprika,
- 9:47Speaker 2: Chester sang Paprika. Cory sang paprika. Christine sang paprika, Alyssa
- 9:54Speaker 2: Brody Yanni sang paprika. They got it. The correct answer
- 9:57Speaker 2: is paprika. That was a one hundred percent.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Now this is going to be some flavor text.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Paprika is created by grinding different types of dried chili
- 10:10Speaker 2: peppers and sweet peppers. McCormick describes its flavor as quote
- 10:14Speaker 2: the sweeter gentler cousin of the hot chili pepper family.
- 10:18Speaker 2: The spice is heavily utilized in Hungarian, Spanish, and other
- 10:22Speaker 2: Central European recipes.
- 10:24Speaker 6: Sweeter Gentler Bland.
- 10:31Speaker 7: It's like a lot of these hot peppers you just
- 10:33Speaker 7: pick early when they're super watered down and they're not
- 10:38Speaker 7: not spicy.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Also a great garnish Yanni that pty red. I'll give
- 10:43Speaker 2: it question three. The topic is woodsmanship. This is our
- 10:46Speaker 2: listener question of the week, which was won by Jamison t.
- 10:50Speaker 2: We're sending this great question. Jamison is going to get
- 10:53Speaker 2: a board game signed by the crew. If you want
- 10:55Speaker 2: a chance to win our listener question of the week
- 10:57Speaker 2: and send your question to Trivia at the meat eater
- 10:59Speaker 2: dot com. Sunflowers and milkweed are this type of plant
- 11:04Speaker 2: which also happens to be a business magazine with the
- 11:07Speaker 2: same name but different spelling. The topic is woodsmanship. Brody
- 11:14Speaker 2: has an answer. No one else does. Sunflowers and milkweed
- 11:19Speaker 2: are this type of plant, which also happens to be
- 11:22Speaker 2: a business magazine with the same name but different spelling.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Brody is still the only person who has an answer. Brody,
- 11:34Speaker 2: you got this right? With certainty? You know you got it.
- 11:37Speaker 3: If I don't, it's an extremely big coincidence.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Okay, had I had to come up with a very
- 11:43Speaker 5: creative spelling of business weekly.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Gmber my favorite plant, Yanni, you got this one?
- 11:56Speaker 6: I think so wow?
- 11:58Speaker 9: Yeah, wait a minute, spell important.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Spelling is not important. This one's gonna You could spell
- 12:04Speaker 2: it like a biologist would, or you can spell it
- 12:07Speaker 2: like the magazine. Sunflowers and milkweed are this type of plant,
- 12:14Speaker 2: which also happens to be a business magazine with the
- 12:18Speaker 2: same name but different spelling. It's everybody ready, same sounding name. Shit,
- 12:27Speaker 2: cal How many magazines are you subscribe to?
- 12:30Speaker 7: Not that one? That one? No, I get the gift
- 12:36Speaker 7: the Montana Outdoors magazine to my nephew every year.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Is that from the FWP? Does everybody have an answer?
- 12:45Speaker 11: Shit, just got their annual photo issue in the mail yesterday.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Cal, I think we're waiting on you. There, you go
- 12:55Speaker 2: open that marker right in the mic for us so sticky,
- 13:01Speaker 2: its going to be.
- 13:04Speaker 6: Yeah, you're all gonna know it. When he says that
- 13:07Speaker 6: you know it, I.
- 13:08Speaker 10: Think what eight on the last one.
- 13:13Speaker 5: That's because I got the right I got the right answer.
- 13:16Speaker 5: That's not the same as just throwing out clues and
- 13:18Speaker 5: clues and trying to stir.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Cal.
- 13:22Speaker 2: We're waiting on you.
- 13:23Speaker 7: I got distracted by the overly defensive tone of the
- 13:26Speaker 7: guy with the right answer.
- 13:30Speaker 5: I just I think we've been we've been dancing around
- 13:33Speaker 5: our banter today. We've been dancing too close to that line,
- 13:36Speaker 5: okay of acceptable.
- 13:38Speaker 7: Notice a quiet.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Game, quiet game going forward? Is everybody ready ahead and
- 13:46Speaker 2: reveal your answer? We have Randall saying Forbes, Cal without
- 13:50Speaker 2: an answer, Jess, you're saying like Cory, like you, Cory
- 13:57Speaker 2: and Christine and Alyssa and Brody and jan Is saying Forbes.
- 14:01Speaker 2: They got it the correct answer.
- 14:03Speaker 5: French business magazine.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Now, if you want to spell like the magazine, it
- 14:10Speaker 2: would be fo Rbes. If you were going to spell
- 14:13Speaker 2: it like Yanni's wife who is a botanist. It would
- 14:16Speaker 2: be fo Rbs. The definition of a forbe is a
- 14:21Speaker 2: broad leaved flowering plant other than grass. Most wildflowers are
- 14:26Speaker 2: categorized as Forbes. The business magazine has nothing to do
- 14:30Speaker 2: with plants. It's actually named after its founder, Birdie Charles Forbes.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Question four. The topic is public lands. What state is
- 14:39Speaker 2: home to places such as Ozark, Saint Francis National Forest,
- 14:44Speaker 2: Bowl Shoals, White River State Park, and Hot Springs National Park.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I feel like we've had a very similar question of
- 14:52Speaker 3: this before.
- 14:53Speaker 2: We have not had this question. What state is home
- 14:57Speaker 2: to places such as oz Are, Saint Francis National Forest,
- 15:02Speaker 2: bull Shoals, White River State Park, and Hot Springs National Park.
- 15:09Speaker 7: Sound of a gun.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Brody thinks we've had this question before, but he doesn't
- 15:13Speaker 2: know the answer. Well, Randall, has it right? Do you
- 15:21Speaker 2: have this one right? I don't know. I'm feeling good
- 15:25Speaker 2: about it. This is question for whatever Melyssa. I think
- 15:32Speaker 2: we're waiting on you.
- 15:35Speaker 8: Oh Man, got that such ass in there, Spencer, we
- 15:40Speaker 8: did such as that's right?
- 15:43Speaker 2: What are the kids getting for Christmas this year?
- 15:45Speaker 7: Oh Man?
- 15:46Speaker 8: We already talked about that right before you walked in
- 15:49Speaker 8: Randall asked me the same thing, and I said it
- 15:50Speaker 8: was it was a hard year. We had these transitional
- 15:52Speaker 8: ages where it's just kind of like they're between interests
- 15:54Speaker 8: and lots of kiddies.
- 15:56Speaker 9: Yeah, exactly, so many.
- 15:58Speaker 5: I said, get them brand new iPhone, no parental So
- 16:02Speaker 5: what's the answer, what are they what are they getting
- 16:03Speaker 5: for Christmas?
- 16:04Speaker 4: Well?
- 16:05Speaker 8: There, this is definitely for the kids and not for me.
- 16:08Speaker 8: We got a really nice karaoke machine?
- 16:14Speaker 7: Is it yet?
- 16:16Speaker 9: It's not? Actually, yes, Phil, there is.
- 16:20Speaker 2: There's never been a karaoke night of Mediator that wasn't
- 16:23Speaker 2: instigated by Phil, just a coincidence that his kids also
- 16:27Speaker 2: like karaoke.
- 16:28Speaker 7: It's it's a closer to having the tiki bar karaoke
- 16:32Speaker 7: party of our DRAMs. Cow.
- 16:35Speaker 2: How big is? How big is the library? On this
- 16:38Speaker 2: karaoke it.
- 16:39Speaker 8: Says you get a subscription to like an an enormous library,
- 16:43Speaker 8: like hundreds of thousands of songs.
- 16:46Speaker 2: For you Phil?
- 16:47Speaker 7: YouTube?
- 16:48Speaker 2: Good for you, Phil?
- 16:50Speaker 5: You ever need a babysitter?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Okay? Does everybody have an answer for the state that's
- 16:56Speaker 2: home to Ozark Saint Francis National Forest, Bullshoals, White River
- 17:01Speaker 2: State Park in Hot Springs National Park, go ahead and
- 17:06Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have Randall saying Arkansas, cal saying Arkansas.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Chester saying Arkansas. Cordy sang Missouri, Christine sang Missouri. She
- 17:16Speaker 2: crossed out Arkansas, Alyssa saying Arkansas, Brody saying Arkansas, Yanni
- 17:22Speaker 2: saying Arkansas. He crossed out Missouri. The correct answer is Arkansas.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Well done, room, Most of you got that right. Hot
- 17:33Speaker 2: Springs National Park, which has been nicknamed the American Spa,
- 17:37Speaker 2: is the only national park in Arkansas. The thermal springs
- 17:41Speaker 2: there have been used by humans for thousands of years,
- 17:44Speaker 2: but didn't become a national park until nineteen sixteen. Question five,
- 17:50Speaker 2: the topic is hunting. This next great question comes to
- 17:52Speaker 2: us via Josh ringsmooth EHD stands for blank hemorrhohagic disease.
- 18:01Speaker 2: E h D stands for blank hemorrhohagic disease. Randall knows this.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Brodie's thinking hard.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Are you seeing my answers as I write them down?
- 18:18Speaker 2: I see your confidence?
- 18:20Speaker 10: Am I?
- 18:21Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 18:22Speaker 5: I get tremendously excited when you say that I know this,
- 18:25Speaker 5: and then I wonder I started second guessing myself.
- 18:28Speaker 7: It's that Bugle magazine joke all over again.
- 18:31Speaker 2: EHD stands for did it come too easy? Magic disease?
- 18:35Speaker 5: Playing with my emotions?
- 18:40Speaker 2: Joanni, do you have this one right?
- 18:41Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Have you ever found a critter that had EHD?
- 18:48Speaker 4: I don't believe so, but I've definitely hunted quite a
- 18:53Speaker 4: few places that had played, you know, have had things.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer?
- 19:01Speaker 5: I'm second guessing myself.
- 19:04Speaker 7: A long time ago, I was hunting a bachelor group
- 19:09Speaker 7: of eight mule deer bucks and I found them all
- 19:12Speaker 7: dead by the end of the week. Really yeah, every single.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Week your scope zero.
- 19:21Speaker 9: This is archery.
- 19:23Speaker 7: It was our first week season we found.
- 19:25Speaker 2: That makes it weirder that you had a rifle with you.
- 19:29Speaker 7: That's for self protection. Nobody can tell me I can't
- 19:32Speaker 7: back a rifle around.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer?
- 19:35Speaker 6: Corey?
- 19:36Speaker 2: How do you? Melissa?
- 19:39Speaker 5: I can't tell if I'm happy with my answer.
- 19:42Speaker 2: It's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. If
- 19:46Speaker 2: you were listening closely, Yannie gave away a little bit
- 19:49Speaker 2: of the answer. Randall saying epidemic, cal saying bro or
- 19:56Speaker 2: excuse me, uh Chester without an answer, Corey saying exter,
- 20:00Speaker 2: Christine saying erratic, Alyssa saying Eastern, Brody saying epizootic, Yiannis
- 20:07Speaker 2: saying epis what's that say? Episodic? Episodic? The correct answer
- 20:14Speaker 2: is epizootic.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't get it.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Okay. Uh. Brody is the only one who's got oh
- 20:20Speaker 2: uh and cols. It's hard to read when your board's
- 20:26Speaker 2: upside down every other time.
- 20:28Speaker 5: It's literally every time.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Epizootic hemorrhohagic disease is a viral disease in deer that's
- 20:35Speaker 2: transmitted by biting midges. It's often fatal and is most
- 20:39Speaker 2: prevalent in years with extreme drought. For more on this disease,
- 20:42Speaker 2: listen to episode fifty eight of the Wired to Hunt
- 20:45Speaker 2: podcast What you got It in your flavor text? You
- 20:49Speaker 2: got it? But I think this blue tongue is incorrect.
- 20:53Speaker 2: That's not the same thing as EHD. People use them interchangeably,
- 20:56Speaker 2: and it's like not a big deal. It's not worthy
- 20:58Speaker 2: of correcting somebody because you have the same ingredients that
- 21:01Speaker 2: caused that, Like correcting people that it's not like that. Yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 2: if somebody called the blue tongue, it's not like worthy
- 21:10Speaker 2: of telling them that they're wrongs.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Like you're too dumb to even correct or what it's
- 21:15Speaker 3: it's it's just phil we are halfway through the game.
- 21:20Speaker 7: Disease that like deer spread to each other and it's
- 21:24Speaker 7: typically highly localized.
- 21:27Speaker 2: The HD.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's from biting midges, so there's no when they're
- 21:34Speaker 3: concentrated at water, So.
- 21:35Speaker 7: It wouldn't be like a biologist would be like, oh
- 21:37Speaker 7: my god, I gotta go check that out because it's
- 21:40Speaker 7: blue tongue instead of EHD.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Or halfway through the game of trivia, give us a
- 21:45Speaker 2: scoreboard update.
- 21:47Speaker 9: Is a high scoring game. This week.
- 21:51Speaker 8: Got Melissa Melissa Chester, Christina Corey with three points apiece,
- 21:57Speaker 8: Cow Johannis and Randall all have four points, and in
- 21:59Speaker 8: first place with a perfect game is Barodi Henderson with
- 22:02Speaker 8: five points.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I had a blue tongue last week? How you feeling fine?
- 22:10Speaker 5: No?
- 22:11Speaker 6: I had a blue freezy.
- 22:12Speaker 10: No, it wasn't from a mid it was it was
- 22:14Speaker 10: a airhead, a blue raspberry airhead.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Question six. The topic is Gear.
- 22:21Speaker 9: Next Life tour Chester. That's your opener.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:33Speaker 2: This brand, which has a lantern in its logo, created
- 22:37Speaker 2: the world's first portable gas powered lantern in nineteen fourteen.
- 22:43Speaker 2: This brand which has a lantern in its logo, created
- 22:47Speaker 2: the world's first portable gas powered lantern in nineteen fourteen. Alyssa,
- 22:53Speaker 2: you got this one, Alyssa, what are your kids getting
- 22:55Speaker 2: for Christmas this year?
- 22:57Speaker 9: Use the mic?
- 22:58Speaker 7: It's okay if it's nothing.
- 23:03Speaker 5: They're boring this year. They're kind of like out of
- 23:05Speaker 5: the toy phase, like my clothes and.
- 23:08Speaker 2: A lot of meat eater shirts and hats pants.
- 23:13Speaker 7: This has just been wrecking the free table up there.
- 23:18Speaker 5: If you guys like black Buffalo and a lot.
- 23:21Speaker 7: Of black Buffalo, everybody's getting it.
- 23:26Speaker 2: This brand, which has a lantern in its logo, created
- 23:30Speaker 2: the world's first portable gas powered lantern in nineteen fourteen.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer? Chester and Christine are thinking hard? Chester,
- 23:42Speaker 2: you could just try cheating. Okay, it's not my style
- 23:50Speaker 2: waiting on Chester and Christine. Man, what's wrong Randall?
- 23:58Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 23:59Speaker 5: I'm just second guessing.
- 24:02Speaker 7: Mm hmm.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Well, just.
- 24:05Speaker 7: Maybe lay out all the lantern companies that you can
- 24:08Speaker 7: think of.
- 24:09Speaker 5: I know I've been stinking back on all the like
- 24:12Speaker 5: the Bushcrafting and you know the Instagram accounts where they
- 24:15Speaker 5: have the lanterns and axes and so forth.
- 24:19Speaker 7: You familiar. I think that's a good way to think
- 24:21Speaker 7: about it.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Christine, do you have an answer? Do you give up?
- 24:27Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall and
- 24:31Speaker 2: cal and Chester and Corey saying Coleman, Christine without an answer,
- 24:36Speaker 2: Alyssa and Brody and Yanni saying Coleman. They got it.
- 24:39Speaker 2: The correct answer is Coleman. The first lantern that W. C.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Coleman created was able to light up a one hundred
- 24:47Speaker 2: foot circle. These lanterns were used to illuminate the first
- 24:51Speaker 2: evening football game west of the Mississippi River. The company's
- 24:55Speaker 2: other major invention was the original g I pocket stove,
- 24:59Speaker 2: which was used by World War II soldiers. Question seven,
- 25:03Speaker 2: The topic is cooking. This next great question comes to
- 25:05Speaker 2: his via Adam Curry. The spruce Eats defines this six
- 25:10Speaker 2: letter word as quote, a French style of smooth, creamy
- 25:15Speaker 2: soup that's made from crustaceans. The topic is cooking. The
- 25:23Speaker 2: spruce Eats defines this six letter word as quote, a
- 25:28Speaker 2: French style of smooth, creamy soup that's made from crustaceans.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Go for a bowl this stuff right now.
- 25:35Speaker 3: You got to stop doing these games over the lunch hours, Spencer.
- 25:38Speaker 2: It's the only time I can get everybody free. Brodie
- 25:40Speaker 2: seems to think he has this one right. Next time,
- 25:43Speaker 2: maybe order some lunch, Geez Randall.
- 25:45Speaker 7: Yeah, no, kids, I'm still laughing over the black Buffalo
- 25:48Speaker 7: Christmas gift that keeps on giving right a solid nicotine addiction.
- 25:56Speaker 2: We had to get him next year. We had a
- 26:03Speaker 2: gift exchange yesterday at meat Eater, and somebody did bring
- 26:06Speaker 2: the black buffalo to the gift exchange. Heck of a gift.
- 26:12Speaker 6: Half of a trash can fold to be exact, It's.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Only a small trash can. So the spruce Heats defines
- 26:21Speaker 2: this sixth letter word as a French style of smooth,
- 26:24Speaker 2: creamy soup that's made from crustaceans. Does everybody have an answer?
- 26:31Speaker 5: Is everybody familiar with the spruce heats? That's what I'm
- 26:35Speaker 5: just wondering about.
- 26:36Speaker 7: If I've heard of it.
- 26:37Speaker 5: If the Flavor Flavor text will.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Fill us in on the it's everybody ready.
- 26:45Speaker 7: I think we might be migrating away from Flavor tex Oh, Yanni,
- 26:49Speaker 7: how'd your answer?
- 26:50Speaker 2: What are we doing here?
- 26:51Speaker 6: Everybody over there has already got one.
- 26:53Speaker 2: We're good, Chester is not. It's everybody ready? Yanni's ready,
- 26:57Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall's saying bisc,
- 27:00Speaker 2: Cal saying bisc chester without an answer, Corey saying bisc,
- 27:05Speaker 2: Christine saying bisc, Alyssa saying chowder, Brody and Janni Asa
- 27:12Speaker 2: and Brody saying bisc alyssa. You would have had to
- 27:14Speaker 2: spell it chowd Doe.
- 27:17Speaker 6: Get that right.
- 27:18Speaker 2: The correct answer was bisk. That's spelled b I s
- 27:22Speaker 2: q u E. The main difference between bisc and chowder
- 27:26Speaker 2: is that bisk is smooth, while chowder is chunky. If
- 27:30Speaker 2: you want to learn how to make seafood stock that
- 27:32Speaker 2: can be used in a bisk or chowder, then check
- 27:35Speaker 2: out Danielle Pruitt's recipe on the meadeater dot com called
- 27:38Speaker 2: how to make fish Stock. Question eight, The topic is fishing.
- 27:44Speaker 2: This reality show about commercial bluefin fishing has aired on
- 27:49Speaker 2: National Geographic since twenty twelve. Brody wrote his answer with
- 27:56Speaker 2: the confidence of someone who is going to keep their
- 27:58Speaker 2: perfect game going. This is question eight. The topic is fishing.
- 28:04Speaker 2: This reality show about commercial bluefin fishing has aired on
- 28:09Speaker 2: National Geographic since twenty twelve. Brody, have you ever watched this.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Show like way back, But I don't feel it's really
- 28:18Speaker 3: about commercial bluefin fishing. I feel like it's about dudes
- 28:22Speaker 3: getting fights with each other.
- 28:25Speaker 9: So like the flavor text around.
- 28:28Speaker 2: No, I don't.
- 28:29Speaker 5: If I'm going to watch a reality show, it's going
- 28:31Speaker 5: to be something like Married at First Sight or Love
- 28:35Speaker 5: is Blind there you go, the whole like something that
- 28:39Speaker 5: all the dogs growth characters on the High Season never
- 28:42Speaker 5: really pulled me in.
- 28:44Speaker 2: It's everybody. Uh no, everyone who's not ready.
- 28:47Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 28:47Speaker 9: You watching The Golden Bachelor, Randall.
- 28:49Speaker 2: No, I like that.
- 28:51Speaker 5: Actually, I can't stand the Bachelor. I don't want a contest.
- 28:54Speaker 5: I want to see love actually unfold.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the only Bachelor I've ever watched. It was
- 29:01Speaker 2: almost heartwarming, Phil see those old folks find in love
- 29:05Speaker 2: at that age.
- 29:05Speaker 7: It's not too late.
- 29:07Speaker 2: It's not too late. That's right. They were in like
- 29:09Speaker 2: their seventies. That wasn't there Some.
- 29:13Speaker 5: Wasn't there some A little weird about that guy.
- 29:17Speaker 9: Yeah, he's on a reality on that show.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yeah, he dated twenty women. That was a little weird.
- 29:23Speaker 5: I thought they had misrepresented his his his relationship status
- 29:27Speaker 5: that he actually had been he had you know, never
- 29:29Speaker 5: mind watch it.
- 29:32Speaker 2: You seem to know a lot about it. You got
- 29:33Speaker 2: all the flavor texts.
- 29:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I heard that on the one of my let's
- 29:38Speaker 5: go back to the possibilities of Love.
- 29:41Speaker 7: I liked it when you were talking about.
- 29:42Speaker 5: The Yeah, I'm yeah, really digging in on the new
- 29:45Speaker 5: season of Love, Flavor of Phil Did you watch Flavor
- 29:48Speaker 5: of Love?
- 29:49Speaker 2: No Randon?
- 29:51Speaker 7: Yeah, no, no.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Okay, no one would get the pumpkin in New York.
- 29:56Speaker 2: It was one of the greatest scenes reality TV show history.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer?
- 29:59Speaker 7: Moving on?
- 30:00Speaker 4: Uh, I appreciate the extra time I needed Chester until
- 30:04Speaker 4: five seconds ago.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Entire answer. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 30:14Speaker 2: Randall saying Tuna Wars, Cal saying wicked Tuna, Chester saying
- 30:19Speaker 2: big Tuna, Corey saying big Tuna, which was Jim Helpert's
- 30:23Speaker 2: nickname in the office, Christine saying wicked Tuna, Alyssa saying catch,
- 30:29Speaker 2: Brody saying wicked Tuna, Yanni saying Tuna Wars. The correct
- 30:34Speaker 2: answer is wicked Tuna. Brody keeps the perfect game going.
- 30:40Speaker 2: You boys are confusing that with the show Whale Wars,
- 30:43Speaker 2: which we've had a question about before.
- 30:46Speaker 7: Never heard you have.
- 30:48Speaker 2: I bet you were on that episode, Yanni, Thus you
- 30:51Speaker 2: have heard of it. Wicked Tuna is still in production
- 30:54Speaker 2: and has thus far created twelve seasons and one hundred
- 30:58Speaker 2: and seventy episodes. It follows fishermen who compete to make
- 31:01Speaker 2: the most money by catching Atlantic bluefin tuna. It's estimated
- 31:05Speaker 2: that the most valuable tuna ever caught on the show
- 31:08Speaker 2: was worth upwards of forty seven thousand dollars. Phil, we
- 31:12Speaker 2: have two questions left. Who is left in the game.
- 31:15Speaker 8: The players who are not left are Chester, Melyssa, Corey,
- 31:20Speaker 8: and Christine. We've got Randall and Giannis with six points,
- 31:25Speaker 8: Calus seven and in first place he still got it.
- 31:27Speaker 8: It's Brody with eight points.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Question nine the topic is biology.
- 31:33Speaker 6: So stoic over there with this fat lead.
- 31:35Speaker 2: This next great question comes to us via John Vannik
- 31:38Speaker 2: bring the heat spencer. What is the opposite of an
- 31:41Speaker 2: ectothermic animal? What the was that? Like? This question is
- 31:47Speaker 2: too easy, Yannie? Or is it? Like? What does that
- 31:50Speaker 2: even mean?
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 31:52Speaker 2: I think it's too easy. What is the opposite of
- 31:55Speaker 2: an ecdothermic animal?
- 31:57Speaker 7: That's the last question?
- 31:58Speaker 2: This is question nine.
- 32:00Speaker 5: It's just a question about prefixes?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Is question nine? Why don't you just there's a little
- 32:05Speaker 2: whole room. A little hint from Randall, I don't know.
- 32:09Speaker 7: I mean, y'all can't be eights, buddy.
- 32:12Speaker 2: What is the opposite of an ectothermic animal? Randall? You
- 32:18Speaker 2: have this one right?
- 32:19Speaker 5: I hope so.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Cal you have this one right?
- 32:26Speaker 7: I know the opposite of ectothermic? Write that down.
- 32:30Speaker 9: But if I had write down the opposite.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Of don't don't too many hints here? What is the
- 32:37Speaker 2: opposite of an ectothermic animal? Brody? How do you feel
- 32:41Speaker 2: about your hands?
- 32:41Speaker 10: Scientific?
- 32:42Speaker 1: I mean, not exactly which answer?
- 32:45Speaker 5: There's a couple of different I feel pretty good.
- 32:48Speaker 7: There is learned something that if you read too far
- 32:51Speaker 7: into any of these questions, you're wrong.
- 32:53Speaker 5: What's the opposite of an animal? And then narrow?
- 32:58Speaker 7: That's right? I find the correspond Yeah, instagram some.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Some non carbon based think about that.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you're gonna meadow me away from even having a
- 33:08Speaker 2: correct answer here.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Hey, does everybody have an answer? Do we need more time?
- 33:13Speaker 4: Because I have a question for you?
- 33:14Speaker 2: Okay?
- 33:14Speaker 6: About what about your shirt?
- 33:17Speaker 2: What do you want to know about?
- 33:18Speaker 1: What is it?
- 33:18Speaker 6: What's it all about? It's like a weird looking.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Shirt, says it says MENO M E. N. N o uh.
- 33:25Speaker 2: This was my baseball jersey in middle school. The town
- 33:30Speaker 2: I grew up in in Menow was Meadow. Col's made
- 33:33Speaker 2: the observation before, but it used to be a little
- 33:35Speaker 2: HEFTI er Yanni, and so yes, my middle school baseball
- 33:38Speaker 2: jersey still fits me.
- 33:39Speaker 6: That's cool.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Actually, no, it's not that cool. No.
- 33:43Speaker 6: I like the fact that you still have it.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Oh, okay, I was hoping.
- 33:46Speaker 11: You were representing the University of Montana Grizzlies, who are
- 33:49Speaker 11: headed to the national.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Championship against US South Dakota State jack rabbits. Everybody ready,
- 33:58Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall saying endothermic,
- 34:03Speaker 2: Cal saying endothermic, Chester saying endothermic. Corey says nocturnal, Christine
- 34:11Speaker 2: says endothermic, Alyssa says cold blooded. Brody says endothermic or
- 34:16Speaker 2: warm blooded. Yanni says endothermic. The correct answer is endothermic
- 34:22Speaker 2: or warm blooded. The room did well.
- 34:26Speaker 11: Since y'all laughed at my answer. I had endothermic. Originally
- 34:29Speaker 11: I thought that was too dumb.
- 34:31Speaker 10: And what I put down was endothermic cold blooded, and
- 34:35Speaker 10: I erase cold blooded.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Okay, that is a good thing. Ecdotherms are cold blooded animals,
- 34:43Speaker 2: meaning their body temp relies on external sources like sunlight
- 34:47Speaker 2: or heated rocks. Endotherms are warm blooded animals, meaning they
- 34:50Speaker 2: maintain a constant body tap and that's independent of their environment.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Phil we're on the last question, give us one last
- 34:58Speaker 2: leaderboard update.
- 34:59Speaker 8: It is down to Ryan Callahan and Brody Henderson still
- 35:02Speaker 8: has this perfect game with nine points, but cal is
- 35:05Speaker 8: nipping at his heels with eight.
- 35:06Speaker 2: No, Brody, I will tell you we haven't had a
- 35:09Speaker 2: perfect game since the Christmas episode of twenty twenty two.
- 35:13Speaker 2: It's been almost exactly a year. By time this episode
- 35:17Speaker 2: comes out, it will have been over a year. You
- 35:20Speaker 2: could make some history here. Good question.
- 35:23Speaker 9: Maybe you'll pitch like.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Question.
- 35:26Speaker 5: That was the day that I played my first game
- 35:28Speaker 5: of trivia, and I remember because Steve said you should
- 35:31Speaker 5: come play trivia with us. I just got a perfect game, dude,
- 35:34Speaker 5: I got a perfect Now.
- 35:36Speaker 2: We also had Randall at a perfect game once he
- 35:39Speaker 2: was nine for nine. Coming into the last question about.
- 35:42Speaker 7: Uh, talk about this and what happened around choked.
- 35:45Speaker 5: It wasn't a perfect It wasn't a perfect game, so
- 35:47Speaker 5: it's not relevant. I don't think we need to revisit
- 35:49Speaker 5: this Spencer.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Question ten, the topic is the conservation name four of
- 35:56Speaker 2: the six states with wolverines, according to the wolf Foundation. Coincidentally,
- 36:03Speaker 2: this is very similar to the question that Randall messed
- 36:06Speaker 2: up on, which I think was related to states that
- 36:09Speaker 2: had what bighorn sheep? I don't remember. He doesn't remember,
- 36:13Speaker 2: which I don't think is true. Question ten, again, the
- 36:16Speaker 2: topic is conservation name four of the six states with wolverines,
- 36:20Speaker 2: according to the Wolverine Foundation. Brody was the quickest one
- 36:25Speaker 2: to come up with an answer. His whiteboard is down,
- 36:27Speaker 2: his marker is closed. He thinks he has the perfect game. Brody,
- 36:33Speaker 2: you feel confident I do okay? Four? You have four
- 36:37Speaker 2: states written down? Right, it's gonna double check for us.
- 36:41Speaker 7: Oh you should only do four?
- 36:43Speaker 2: Four, only do four. You're gonna get it wrong. Cal
- 36:45Speaker 2: if you have five or six? Okay? Is everybody? No?
- 36:55Speaker 2: Everyone is not ready. Cal's gonna go for seven. You
- 36:59Speaker 2: just tell us their whole native range.
- 37:00Speaker 9: Cal.
- 37:01Speaker 5: He's got him, He's got him.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Okay. Randall's also confident. Just question ten. As a reminder,
- 37:07Speaker 2: if Brody does have the perfect game, Meat Eater will
- 37:10Speaker 2: double its donation from five hundred dollars to one thousand dollars.
- 37:15Speaker 2: A lot on the line here, Brody, mm hmm, Corey
- 37:19Speaker 2: waiting on you.
- 37:20Speaker 11: Oh, I'm probably just erasing the right answer again.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Okay, Christine good Alyssa. No, I'm gonna draw all this out. Oh,
- 37:32Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall saying Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Alaska,
- 37:40Speaker 2: cal sag Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Colorado. He went
- 37:47Speaker 2: for six states, Chester saying Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Wyoming. Corey
- 37:53Speaker 2: sang Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho. Christine crossed out, Michigan said Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska,
- 38:03Speaker 2: Alyssa without an answer, Brody saying Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Johannis saying Alaska, Montana, California, Colorado. The six states are Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon,
- 38:22Speaker 2: and Alaska. Brody got it right again, Brody with the
- 38:27Speaker 2: perfect game, the first perfect game in about thirteen months.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Wait to go, Brody, well done.
- 38:33Speaker 9: You went with the states Colorado.
- 38:37Speaker 7: There's Wyoming or Colorado. Wolverines have been sighted in Colorado,
- 38:43Speaker 7: but I don't think there's an established population.
- 38:46Speaker 2: This is via the Wolverine Foundation, You're gonna have to
- 38:49Speaker 2: argue with them. It's estimated that there are about three
- 38:52Speaker 2: hundred wolverines currently living in the lower forty eight. Their
- 38:56Speaker 2: range used to extend from New England to California, but
- 38:59Speaker 2: was heavily segment mined. The last reported sighting for a
- 39:02Speaker 2: wolverine in Minnesota was nineteen sixty nine, for California was
- 39:06Speaker 2: nineteen twenty two, for Utah was nineteen twenty one, and
- 39:10Speaker 2: for Colorado was nineteen nineteen.
- 39:13Speaker 7: Oh bullshit, And you think I'm afraid to argue with somebody.
