- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome into the Irish Staters podcast, the podcast
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Pittsburgh Steelers fans across the island of Ireland and beyond.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It's always a good podcast after a dub and I'm
- 0:15Speaker 1: not talking about Dublin up the Dubs, etc. I'm talking
- 0:17Speaker 1: about a Steelers dub four and two in the season,
- 0:20Speaker 1: after almost score a Gammy type victory thirty two to
- 0:26Speaker 1: thirteen against the last right the Las Vegas Raiders. Michael mcquid,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Jim English, Davog Nickey as we get set to sort
- 0:34Speaker 1: of recap this before these lads head to Pittsburgh this weekend.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Very very lucky, gentlemen, very very jealous. I get to
- 0:41Speaker 1: go to two one in five football teams while you
- 0:43Speaker 1: boys are going to one of the biggest games of
- 0:45Speaker 1: the week. We'll talk about that in a bit of Jimmy,
- 0:46Speaker 1: good to see you again. How you do them on?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Well, Nick, I've just a bit recovered from my in
- 0:52Speaker 2: and out trip to London for the NFL yesterday. Great
- 0:56Speaker 2: atmosphere in Tottenham Hofsper Stadium is always great to see,
- 1:00Speaker 2: you know. Young Caleb Williams get to win on the
- 1:02Speaker 2: road in London. He had a fantastic, fantastic performance, as
- 1:06Speaker 2: did Justin Fields in Las Vegas in Allegiance Stadium, So
- 1:11Speaker 2: look a great day all around. The Wi Fi and
- 1:14Speaker 2: stance Aid airport wasn't the best, so I caught some
- 1:17Speaker 2: of the game and the rest I watched this morning
- 1:20Speaker 2: with bleary eyes. So look, fantastic weekend all around, and
- 1:23Speaker 2: look a great game and looking forward to getting to
- 1:26Speaker 2: Pittsburgh now later on this week as well.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Davill getting thirty points on the board or more than
- 1:33Speaker 1: thirty points is always a good flax, and we'll talk
- 1:35Speaker 1: about it in a wee second. But how was your
- 1:37Speaker 1: Sunday night? Watching this theaters a man Kiev little chill session.
- 1:44Speaker 3: It certainly was a chill session. I didn't wasn't sure
- 1:46Speaker 3: if it was going to be chill after that first
- 1:48Speaker 3: Drave I mean, but having said that, we adopted perfectly
- 1:51Speaker 3: and a bit like yourselves, you know, I was, I
- 1:54Speaker 3: was tuning in and I wasn't sure what I was
- 1:56Speaker 3: going to get. But having said that, it was really
- 1:58Speaker 3: impressive how we played. And I'm just I'm just a
- 2:01Speaker 3: bit like Jimmy. I'm just buzzing to get over this weekend.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I mean, I didn't know from a year from now
- 2:06Speaker 3: that we would be saying maybe going to Pittsburgh for
- 2:08Speaker 3: our first game, I wouldn't have believed you. So yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 3: I'm going from Monkey of the Pittsburgh and that's the
- 2:13Speaker 3: best upgrade you can get. So I'm looking forward to us.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Man Key of the Pittsburgh will talk about that, we'll
- 2:19Speaker 1: recap the game and then talk about your lad's impending
- 2:22Speaker 1: journey to Pittsburgh. Looking forward to seeing the content throughout
- 2:27Speaker 1: the week. It's gonna be good crack look obviously, to
- 2:30Speaker 1: see so many Steelers fans. First off, Jimmy like, does
- 2:35Speaker 1: any team in the league travel as well as the Steelers,
- 2:38Speaker 1: And I know we've seen a lot of Bears fans
- 2:40Speaker 1: in London yesterday. For the domestic fan here, Steelers fans
- 2:43Speaker 1: have to be the best group of fans traveling around
- 2:45Speaker 1: the NFL because it felt like a home game the
- 2:48Speaker 1: fact a home game in Vegas yesterday, and that's a
- 2:51Speaker 1: good thing as well, because I feel like it's Spurs
- 2:53Speaker 1: all the team on.
- 2:55Speaker 2: There must be a serious mental of Steelers fans living
- 2:57Speaker 2: on the west coast of the state to make it.
- 2:59Speaker 2: They always him to show up for the West Coast games.
- 3:02Speaker 2: We saw it in We have seen it in Los
- 3:04Speaker 2: Angeles for Chargers games. We saw it last year an
- 3:08Speaker 2: allegiance for them for the Raiders game as well, And
- 3:11Speaker 2: there's no doubt that the noise of the crowd and
- 3:14Speaker 2: the momentum spurs on the team. And as Dave alluded to,
- 3:18Speaker 2: the first defensive drive wasn't the best. The Steers got
- 3:21Speaker 2: pushed around a little bit on the ground and through
- 3:23Speaker 2: the air, but I mean, overall, they did a fantastic
- 3:26Speaker 2: job of bottling up rock Bowers, who was ultimately going
- 3:30Speaker 2: to be the raiders number one target and number one
- 3:33Speaker 2: weapon yesterday, and a lot of that. I mean, we
- 3:37Speaker 2: see how the crowd feeds off. Sorry, we see how
- 3:40Speaker 2: the team feeds off the crowd in in Akershure, and
- 3:44Speaker 2: there's there's no doubt that the fans definitely had an impact.
- 3:48Speaker 2: And just to see all those tells waving, the amount
- 3:52Speaker 2: of black and gold inside the stadium was it was.
- 3:55Speaker 2: It was fantastic to see. And yeah, no death, definitely
- 4:00Speaker 2: the team really benefited from having that many fans in attendance.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It feels like the nineteen seventies and nineteen eighties and
- 4:08Speaker 1: mostly had a huge effect on the West Coast fans.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I mean, do you feel like, obviously we all know
- 4:14Speaker 1: the Steers fans are the best fans in the NFL,
- 4:15Speaker 1: But when you see, like even when the Raiders are
- 4:18Speaker 1: going for a field goal on Sunday black and goals
- 4:21Speaker 1: everywhere everywhere.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I think, actually Mike Tomlin alluded to it in his
- 4:26Speaker 3: postgame press conference. He started it off by just praising
- 4:29Speaker 3: you know, the fans. I mean, as Jimmy just alluded
- 4:31Speaker 3: to there. Every time we play on the West Coast,
- 4:34Speaker 3: you know, whether it's the Rams or even the Chargers,
- 4:35Speaker 3: but over the years, we just seem to absolutely outshine
- 4:38Speaker 3: them all the time. And I recall as well, I
- 4:41Speaker 3: think one of the start of the drives where I
- 4:42Speaker 3: think he had no callings through the pick and just
- 4:45Speaker 3: the defense calls throughout the stadium was just on. I
- 4:48Speaker 3: wouldn't have liked to have been in that stadium. I
- 4:50Speaker 3: was a Raiders fan. Not only are you sitting in
- 4:51Speaker 3: your home potch, but you're getting outsung and out chanted
- 4:54Speaker 3: by the Steelers fans.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It was.
- 4:55Speaker 3: It was incredible to see, and even just Watson on
- 4:57Speaker 3: the TV as well, you can hear it through the speaker.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I mean, you think you were that quature. If you
- 5:01Speaker 3: close your close your aiyes, you wouldn't have believed where
- 5:04Speaker 3: you are. So it's absolutely incredible by born On. We
- 5:07Speaker 3: have the best fans in the NFL. I think everybody
- 5:09Speaker 3: knows that, but to have that home deal advantage where
- 5:12Speaker 3: and we're away, it really helps the team. So just
- 5:14Speaker 3: In Fage as well alluded to it as well. You
- 5:16Speaker 3: know it fALS like every game is a home game
- 5:18Speaker 3: and I'm really proud to be a stay their fans
- 5:20Speaker 3: on this Monday.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I love that for both of you.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Boys.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Look good to see a win, but more so good
- 5:27Speaker 1: to sort of break it down and pale the Orange
- 5:29Speaker 1: away a lodds at each little part of it. I
- 5:31Speaker 1: don't know what I'm saying that. I feel like we
- 5:33Speaker 1: all need a bit of sleep tonight, but we're getting
- 5:34Speaker 1: through it. We're having the crack. There's nothing better than
- 5:37Speaker 1: traveling over for an NFL game and being exhausted the
- 5:39Speaker 1: next time, only fourth cup of coffee, peeling the orange.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Justin Fields, Jimmy didn't just have a really impressive offensive performance,
- 5:49Speaker 1: but for me, like one thing down watching the team
- 5:52Speaker 1: his due fled capability eleven times of rushing in fifty
- 5:56Speaker 1: nine yards five point four yards average per cary two
- 5:59Speaker 1: tops when we've seen it sometimes during the season that
- 6:02Speaker 1: maybe I must sayd Jalen and Agy have struggled, but
- 6:05Speaker 1: there has been games where we couldn't get a run
- 6:06Speaker 1: game going at certain points both this season and last season.
- 6:10Speaker 1: To see a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers that can
- 6:14Speaker 1: run a little bit, it's nice.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah. He can't discount the effect that his running ability
- 6:21Speaker 2: has on kind of confusing opposing defenses because they have
- 6:24Speaker 2: to allow for that the fact that he might pull
- 6:28Speaker 2: the ball down and run. And on his first rushing
- 6:32Speaker 2: touchdown of the night, I believe it was he saw
- 6:34Speaker 2: how well he has adapted and developed as a quarterback
- 6:38Speaker 2: because he took the snap, he went through his reads,
- 6:41Speaker 2: nobody was open, and only at that stage was he
- 6:43Speaker 2: able to pull the ball down and scramble outside for
- 6:46Speaker 2: a touchdown. So he just like he really has come
- 6:49Speaker 2: into his own, I feel with the Steelers offense, and
- 6:51Speaker 2: speaking of the run game as well, it was great
- 6:53Speaker 2: to see Jayalen Warren back because he does have that
- 6:56Speaker 2: kind of that change of pace option for the offense
- 7:01Speaker 2: and like he he can't kind of disparage what he
- 7:05Speaker 2: does in the passing game as well as a pass
- 7:08Speaker 2: blocker for the you know, he's he's not a small
- 7:10Speaker 2: man by any means. The man if he's ever still
- 7:12Speaker 2: beside him, he's absolutely jacked. But he's for the average
- 7:16Speaker 2: as average NFL running backs go. He is quite short,
- 7:19Speaker 2: but he is absolutely fearless in past blocking. And there
- 7:22Speaker 2: was a number of times in that game last night
- 7:23Speaker 2: where he took on bletzing linebackers and sent them sent
- 7:27Speaker 2: them flying backwards. But speaking of justin fields, I mean,
- 7:32Speaker 2: he just it's fantastic to watch him do that when
- 7:35Speaker 2: you when you know he's okay, let's say, his first
- 7:37Speaker 2: readers in there, his second readers in there, that he
- 7:40Speaker 2: is capable of making things happen with his legs, of
- 7:42Speaker 2: extending the plays and ultimately getting points on the board.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And speaking of our running backs, it was also great
- 7:50Speaker 2: to see Nage get his first rushing touchdown of the
- 7:53Speaker 2: year and a tremendous effort I think one hundred and
- 7:55Speaker 2: nine rushing yards thereabouts, and the thirty six yard scramble
- 7:59Speaker 2: finished off with it with a dive into the end
- 8:01Speaker 2: zone for the touchdown. So it's it's always nice to
- 8:05Speaker 2: get your running backs going with scores, and hopefully we
- 8:08Speaker 2: see more of that this weekend against the Jets.
- 8:12Speaker 1: A bit more time obviously, it takes me, I'd said
- 8:15Speaker 1: more than twelve This is twenty four hours to break
- 8:16Speaker 1: down tape in that element, Dovog, But are you impressed
- 8:20Speaker 1: with the progression that we've seen from Justin Fields through
- 8:23Speaker 1: week one the week six, especially when you know we
- 8:26Speaker 1: were all together a few weeks ago and we didn't
- 8:28Speaker 1: have the best. He's really regrouped well, if not game
- 8:30Speaker 1: against the Colts to know.
- 8:33Speaker 3: He absolutely has Michael and you know on Justin Faez
- 8:35Speaker 3: despite the Olne problems and we've got another injury in
- 8:38Speaker 3: Zack Frazier absolute got cratch An injury the Otters. With
- 8:41Speaker 3: the season he's had despite all of that, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 3: he's starting to slid it for himself as an absolute steal.
- 8:46Speaker 3: To think we gave up a six round pick for him,
- 8:48Speaker 3: it's mind blown. I mean, looks so composed and ready
- 8:52Speaker 3: for whatever the Raiders threw him. I recall usnop. I
- 8:54Speaker 3: think we're Broduc Jones completely fell asleep and Max Crosbig
- 8:57Speaker 3: was burned down on and we had the awarness to
- 8:59Speaker 3: scramble and pick up a first down. So those are
- 9:01Speaker 3: the sort of players we need from Justin in the Mappini.
- 9:03Speaker 3: You know, he's answered every question. That's the ass of
- 9:06Speaker 3: him so far, and just obviously on the game as
- 9:08Speaker 3: a whole. Neck arguably our most oppressive performance of the season.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Despite the opponent that did match him last week. The
- 9:13Speaker 3: Raiders are probably one of the worst teams in the league.
- 9:16Speaker 3: They provided that exact answer, and aside from Brock, Brock,
- 9:19Speaker 3: bars and and Max Crosby, that really isn't a lot
- 9:21Speaker 3: of star part of there. And there was glimpses of
- 9:23Speaker 3: that first quarter, you know, just like the Coach game.
- 9:25Speaker 3: You know, they were able to go down the first
- 9:27Speaker 3: drive and at score, but you know we were able
- 9:29Speaker 3: to adjust the fanciully as well. It's that you know
- 9:31Speaker 3: t J. Watt with the punch outs. You know they
- 9:33Speaker 3: turnover on the punt and also obviously did the Dante
- 9:36Speaker 3: Jackson interception to seal it as well. So and just
- 9:40Speaker 3: a back of everything Jimmy said again of fansively great
- 9:42Speaker 3: to see nause harsh breakouts. It's obviously, you know the
- 9:44Speaker 3: return of Jail and Warren's is something that's going to
- 9:46Speaker 3: help him, which is strange because obviously he's good. It's
- 9:48Speaker 3: mean less carries, but you know there's gonna be less
- 9:50Speaker 3: workload there as well. So ultimately very happy with that progress,
- 9:53Speaker 3: and they really looking forward. You know, we get to
- 9:56Speaker 3: see on Sunday now for real justin Fields and co
- 9:59Speaker 3: go adot and I'm really luck forward. So obviously overall
- 10:02Speaker 3: happy to see what went down yesterday.
- 10:05Speaker 2: He can't discount the effect of the defense as well, Dave,
- 10:08Speaker 2: Like you said, I thought that our defense rallying incredibly
- 10:11Speaker 2: well last night after that opening drive touchdown to the
- 10:15Speaker 2: to the Raiders. I mean, you only allowed the we
- 10:17Speaker 2: only allowed the Raiders one total touchdown in their home field.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's incredible. And just in terms of
- 10:24Speaker 2: individual accolades, despite the fact that he didn't have a sack,
- 10:27Speaker 2: and I mean there was there was holes all over
- 10:29Speaker 2: the place, so that's something that needs to be looked
- 10:31Speaker 2: at in the future. I mean, he was getting dragged
- 10:32Speaker 2: out of it on pass rushes, but TJ. Watt two
- 10:35Speaker 2: forced fumbles just incredible and continues to wrect the game
- 10:39Speaker 2: even when he's not having such an impact on the edge.
- 10:42Speaker 2: He does kind of fall back into that more traditional
- 10:44Speaker 2: linebacker role in run stop Patrick Queen. I know we've
- 10:49Speaker 2: we've criticized him a little bit in the past. He
- 10:51Speaker 2: had a great game. He had ten plus tackles, including
- 10:55Speaker 2: a fantastic solo stop. And I just want to call
- 10:57Speaker 2: out Jeremiah Moon as well, who did have the punt
- 11:00Speaker 2: block number forty nine. I had to google who number
- 11:03Speaker 2: forty nine was on a roster. I had no idea
- 11:05Speaker 2: who he was, and then I realized that we picked
- 11:08Speaker 2: him up earlier on perhaps last week. But he had
- 11:12Speaker 2: a fantastic impact on the game as well with his contribution.
- 11:15Speaker 2: So and that just kind of speaks to the next
- 11:17Speaker 2: man mentality that the Steeters have on defense. And look
- 11:21Speaker 2: that they they've been keeping us in contention all season long.
- 11:26Speaker 2: So it's great to be able to give back a
- 11:27Speaker 2: little bit on the offense as well.
- 11:28Speaker 5: I think.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I agree. So funny you see, like a couple of
- 11:33Speaker 1: guys I think it was too. I was getting ready
- 11:34Speaker 1: for the game against the Colts in Croker and I
- 11:37Speaker 1: had a list of names written down, and yeah, they
- 11:39Speaker 1: always pick up those two of the guys. You're like, oh, yeah,
- 11:41Speaker 1: he's going to ply the gap maybe in the offensive line.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Different guys. Yeah, I completely get that. I feel like
- 11:46Speaker 1: fans are the same and they're going, who's this guy?
- 11:48Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 11:48Speaker 1: Straight up. Let's hear from coach Tomlin after the win
- 11:51Speaker 1: against the Raiders on the Irish Staters podcast.
- 11:56Speaker 5: You know, I think the first thing that needs to
- 11:58Speaker 5: be saying is just really taking aback by the support
- 12:03Speaker 5: that we got here from our from our fans. Uh
- 12:06Speaker 5: still in nation, you know continually, man, they just they
- 12:11Speaker 5: show up. Man. I just thought it was awesome.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Man.
- 12:13Speaker 5: The environment for a road venue was special. It was
- 12:17Speaker 5: special to be a part of a lot of good things.
- 12:21Speaker 5: You know, the splash plays, the block punt. Can't say
- 12:24Speaker 5: enough about TJ that hadn't already been said in terms
- 12:28Speaker 5: of his ability to impact the game in a variety
- 12:30Speaker 5: of ways. It is special. We're not surprised by it,
- 12:35Speaker 5: but but it's still special. I thought penalty slowed us
- 12:39Speaker 5: down some, particularly early in the game. Self inflicted wounds,
- 12:43Speaker 5: holding calls and things of that nature kind of stopped
- 12:46Speaker 5: the fluidity in which we were moving the ball. I thought,
- 12:48Speaker 5: once we got over that we were playing the style
- 12:50Speaker 5: of ball that we desired to play. Just really appreciative
- 12:55Speaker 5: of of getting back on track and handling our business
- 12:59Speaker 5: and winning, because that's what this business is about. Zach
- 13:03Speaker 5: Fraser's got an ankle injury. It'll be evaluated. It was
- 13:06Speaker 5: some other guys that went out of the game but
- 13:08Speaker 5: were able to return. Minka was able to go back
- 13:10Speaker 5: with the shoulder, Dante Jackson was able to go back
- 13:13Speaker 5: with the shoulder, to name a few. We'll keep assessing
- 13:17Speaker 5: those things. I'll give you an update next time we
- 13:19Speaker 5: come together on some of the medical things. But along
- 13:22Speaker 5: the medical lines, I just thought it was an awesome
- 13:23Speaker 5: game in that we had a lot of guys getting
- 13:26Speaker 5: elevated and getting an opportunity to contribute who hadn't And
- 13:30Speaker 5: I'm just really thankful for their efforts man, and just
- 13:33Speaker 5: the collective attention to detail that allows that to happen.
- 13:36Speaker 5: When you got guys that are being elevated that lack
- 13:38Speaker 5: a little in game experience and stuff like that, usually
- 13:42Speaker 5: it's a collective in terms of communication and so forth
- 13:44Speaker 5: to make sure the day comes off with fluidity, pauls
- 13:48Speaker 5: and open it up for questions in the game where
- 13:52Speaker 5: without free of your linebackers and keep punches at all
- 13:55Speaker 5: I questions take plays like that in those loans.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Difference.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Man, Again, I don't know what other way to state
- 14:04Speaker 5: it other than I'm not surprised by it, But it
- 14:08Speaker 5: doesn't make it any less amazing. If you've been around
- 14:12Speaker 5: him during the course of his career here, you just
- 14:15Speaker 5: know that he is going to see those moments. He's
- 14:17Speaker 5: going to rise up and be what we need him
- 14:19Speaker 5: to be in some form of fashion. And I just
- 14:21Speaker 5: think today was a reflection of it. It's just another
- 14:25Speaker 5: chapter and his awesome story that is is a career.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Like what was the difference in one game?
- 14:30Speaker 3: Is that as nimbo as you've seen arguing.
- 14:33Speaker 5: You know, I just thought it was a collective effort,
- 14:36Speaker 5: not only the bigs, but the perimeter people and obviously
- 14:40Speaker 5: naj and everyone else. But I just thought, anytime you
- 14:43Speaker 5: have a run output like that, it's not an individual
- 14:46Speaker 5: it is a collective that breakout run. I think Mouth
- 14:51Speaker 5: sealed the corner and allowed him to go. When I
- 14:55Speaker 5: look at it, I just I just felt the collective
- 14:57Speaker 5: energy and effort that was necessary. Anyone else, coach, how'd
- 15:03Speaker 5: you feel about justice there? You know, I thought he
- 15:05Speaker 5: did a nice job, particularly making some things happen with
- 15:08Speaker 5: his legs managing the circumstances and taking care of the ball.
- 15:12Speaker 5: Obviously he took a few hits, but he's a tough guy.
- 15:16Speaker 5: I'm glad he's okay and we'll keep moving.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Coach, after the loss last week, you mentioned getting back
- 15:22Speaker 6: on track.
- 15:23Speaker 4: How important is it to get a win.
- 15:25Speaker 5: And a decisive win like this? You know, winning is
- 15:28Speaker 5: our business. Football is our game. Winning is our business.
- 15:30Speaker 5: We hadn't been handling business and so it's just good
- 15:32Speaker 5: to get back to taking care of business. This is
- 15:35Speaker 5: a normal state for us. It needs to be great to.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Hear for push tomlin as out a big win against
- 15:40Speaker 1: the Readers in week six, getting I had to week
- 15:43Speaker 1: seven a little second will start to give our many
- 15:45Speaker 1: keys to the game. As these guys getting ready to
- 15:47Speaker 1: get in the plane on hop over to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- 15:51Speaker 1: before we do. That's here from Justin Fields, Najie Harris,
- 15:55Speaker 1: maybe TJ Wall as well on the Irish staters walkout running?
- 16:00Speaker 1: What's the ms in there?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Do you have like a yard line where you kind
- 16:03Speaker 2: of know, okay.
- 16:04Speaker 6: I can die from here?
- 16:05Speaker 2: Is it all just feel?
- 16:07Speaker 1: You only dade it by a couple of inches, That, though,
- 16:09Speaker 1: was pretty impressive.
- 16:12Speaker 7: You sa ain't doing I have like a certain yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 5: I mean, like you know, I goes up for a
- 16:15Speaker 5: dunkey nose, like, well, I can make it from the
- 16:17Speaker 5: foul line or wherever I'm not.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Do you have a spot where you know you.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Can get to the goal?
- 16:20Speaker 7: I know that you don't know that. I think that
- 16:23Speaker 7: everybody believes. Whenever I believe they can do something, they
- 16:26Speaker 7: could do it.
- 16:27Speaker 4: You know what I mean.
- 16:27Speaker 7: It doesn't care what people say or what they think
- 16:29Speaker 7: is normal. Like if I say I wanna jump from
- 16:32Speaker 7: the free throw line like Michael Jordan did, you could
- 16:34Speaker 7: jump from the free throw line. I don't put no
- 16:36Speaker 7: type of restraints on what I can do, cause I
- 16:39Speaker 7: know what I could. I know what I can do,
- 16:40Speaker 7: you know what I mean, I don't really care what
- 16:41Speaker 7: other people say or think, you know. So when I
- 16:45Speaker 7: had the opportunity, I just took it. And I know
- 16:46Speaker 7: I don't care if I was a how ver far away.
- 16:48Speaker 7: I know I could make it when I really believe
- 16:50Speaker 7: it myself. So I mean to answer your question, like now.
- 16:54Speaker 6: You like you didn't set a quarter, guy's pile them
- 16:57Speaker 6: on you kind of carrying?
- 16:58Speaker 4: If you enjoy that, if you I don't know what
- 17:01Speaker 4: anyte is that, Like what's your view going on?
- 17:04Speaker 7: To spark the offense? You know what I mean, you
- 17:06Speaker 7: gotta have to when when drivers aren't going so well,
- 17:08Speaker 7: you need to play that will spark it. I always
- 17:11Speaker 7: try to be that person to spark the play. So
- 17:13Speaker 7: really when that was was it somewhere of just like
- 17:16Speaker 7: you know, what can I do for the team to
- 17:17Speaker 7: know that, you know, we got to keep pushing in
- 17:19Speaker 7: this is a four quarter fight, and you know we
- 17:21Speaker 7: need we need plays and create some type of excitement
- 17:23Speaker 7: to know that, like all right, nag, you did that.
- 17:25Speaker 7: Let me let me do minds now, you know what
- 17:27Speaker 7: I mean? And then it should be a domino effect.
- 17:29Speaker 7: You know the receivers do that. Tight ends make plays
- 17:30Speaker 7: just to make plays, and you know this is a
- 17:32Speaker 7: domino effect. So really it's just to give a spark
- 17:34Speaker 7: for the team.
- 17:35Speaker 6: I mean, I can definitely feel the slides and more
- 17:38Speaker 6: chips and things of that nature, but I understand that
- 17:41Speaker 6: at a certain point, if they want to truly eliminate
- 17:45Speaker 6: getting you getting to the quarterback with getting the ball
- 17:47Speaker 6: out quick, the slides, the chips, like a team can
- 17:49Speaker 6: pretty much do that if they want to so I'm
- 17:51Speaker 6: gonna have to try to find ways to continue to
- 17:54Speaker 6: affect the game as much as possible. And I've been
- 17:57Speaker 6: doing the punch out since. I mean back to Tim
- 17:59Speaker 6: Tibbetsar in college at Wisconsin, he coached Peanut tilm and
- 18:03Speaker 6: in Chicago, and he used to always tell me, and
- 18:04Speaker 6: Peanut used to always get a ball out every day
- 18:06Speaker 6: in practice, and I carried that with me and it's
- 18:09Speaker 6: been something that continue to try to do, especially when
- 18:11Speaker 6: you get in those situations and when you have a
- 18:16Speaker 6: defense that flies around like this, you're able to take
- 18:18Speaker 6: more chances. I don't always get the football, but when
- 18:21Speaker 6: you do, it's a big play away in rid zone
- 18:24Speaker 6: you're a lot last couple year. Yeah, it's I mean,
- 18:28Speaker 6: we'll take him anywhere in the field we can get,
- 18:29Speaker 6: but when it's in the red zone, you're taking away points.
- 18:32Speaker 6: It's huge plays you in your offense gave.
- 18:34Speaker 2: The Taboys that on score on a lot of those tournaments.
- 18:36Speaker 6: What does that do for a defense? That's huge. It
- 18:39Speaker 6: allows us to continue to hopefully pin our years back.
- 18:43Speaker 6: But even just like I think it was the second
- 18:44Speaker 6: to last drive, they were able to still march down
- 18:46Speaker 6: and score and we need to correct. There's still things
- 18:49Speaker 6: to correct, even though we were able to win and
- 18:51Speaker 6: win with a decent sized margin. But I'd say more
- 18:55Speaker 6: importantly is just starting the game fast. And I know
- 18:57Speaker 6: we talk about it each and every week. We need
- 18:59Speaker 6: to continue to hone in on starting the game faster.
- 19:03Speaker 7: One of the story games faster.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Which what did you like about with the Swans after
- 19:06Speaker 2: that they.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Should touch down?
- 19:08Speaker 6: Oh, it was great. I think three or four four
- 19:10Speaker 6: and out or three and outs in a row after that,
- 19:13Speaker 6: and it's just corrections and kind of warming up to
- 19:17Speaker 6: the action. As coach, he always says, we just need
- 19:19Speaker 6: to come off the bus ready to go.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I say about this Chief ends that there's the league
- 19:24Speaker 1: and friends that on chaboys. I think by at least
- 19:26Speaker 1: two more than the next closstem. I don't know.
- 19:28Speaker 6: I wouldn't even know that stat if you didn't tell
- 19:30Speaker 6: me right now.
- 19:32Speaker 1: The slash plays that you have have been the don't
- 19:35Speaker 1: break defense, it seems to show up.
- 19:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, we're trying to make splash plays anytime
- 19:40Speaker 6: in the field. It just so happens that right now
- 19:42Speaker 6: they're coming in the red zone. But we'll take them
- 19:43Speaker 6: anyway we possibly can.
- 19:45Speaker 1: The crowd.
- 19:46Speaker 6: Absolutely absolutely, we knew that was gonna be the case,
- 19:49Speaker 6: but appreciate it. Uh Steer fans are incredible. Steer Nation
- 19:53Speaker 6: is smart when it comes to when they get loud,
- 19:56Speaker 6: and they were, they were, They were awesome.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Today, animated that first has got what was it? Next line?
- 20:03Speaker 6: A lot of yelling. I don't know Cam, Cam being
- 20:06Speaker 6: camp but it worked.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Which is it motivated defense?
- 20:10Speaker 1: When you see how as you rip off some of
- 20:11Speaker 1: the runs that he.
- 20:12Speaker 6: Has, that's huge. It's huge anytime you're able to run
- 20:15Speaker 6: the ball in the National Football League. It's de moralizing
- 20:18Speaker 6: for a defense we know from experience, but it also
- 20:21Speaker 6: allows us to get a little bit more win on
- 20:23Speaker 6: the sideline, to be able to come out and we
- 20:25Speaker 6: always say best defense is spend a lot of time
- 20:27Speaker 6: on the bench, and when when we're ripping off runs
- 20:29Speaker 6: like that, we're we're able to spend time on the bench.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Moved out there, played a lot, He played a lot
- 20:35Speaker 6: him and adi uh stepped up. Had a great game today.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Trying to find ways to get off the field a
- 20:40Speaker 6: little bit more and let those guys get some snaps.
- 20:43Speaker 6: And we knew they were they were more than capable
- 20:45Speaker 6: of getting some positive snaps and even at the end
- 20:47Speaker 6: there out they had a couple of nice rushes.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Scoring a lot of points that should play.
- 20:51Speaker 3: I mean, that's how much confidence is that given If
- 20:53Speaker 3: you guys are able to produce points like that.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it gives us, you know, a lot
- 20:57Speaker 4: of confidence. And I think we could have put more
- 20:59Speaker 4: U Yeah, of course couple of mishaps, but you know,
- 21:03Speaker 4: thirty two points, it's pretty solid. But you know, we're
- 21:05Speaker 4: just gonna keep you know, getting better, keep uh working,
- 21:08Speaker 4: and you know, hopefully we put up more next week.
- 21:10Speaker 2: You mentioned those misshaps there's a series in the first tack,
- 21:12Speaker 2: right if you had the three incompletions in a row
- 21:14Speaker 2: that were off target.
- 21:15Speaker 7: I mean you kind of have to balance back past
- 21:17Speaker 7: that and and now let those miss throws kind of
- 21:20Speaker 7: linger it.
- 21:20Speaker 4: I mean, everybody has miss throws at the end of
- 21:22Speaker 4: the day. Nobody's perfect. So yeah, I mean, it's just
- 21:26Speaker 4: not about the getting my head or anything. I've missed,
- 21:28Speaker 4: you know, so many throws in my career, so it's
- 21:30Speaker 4: it's nothing new. It's not you know, anything different. Like
- 21:33Speaker 4: I said, everybody missthrows, whether you're Tom Brady, you know,
- 21:35Speaker 4: Anon Rodgers or whoever. So yeah, Also obviously you can
- 21:39Speaker 4: kind started twenty twenty the throws and that they ended
- 21:42Speaker 4: up in batman zone where we were Passauanna's trimming.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Just a plays like that.
- 21:46Speaker 5: How do you balance wings to make plays down.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Through with your arm versus your take off fo Yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 4: third it was that in that case, it was third down,
- 21:54Speaker 4: and you know, Arthur's been preaching since training camp kind
- 21:57Speaker 4: of went I through the ball. Kind of got a
- 21:59Speaker 4: flashback from tring camp of him saying not to throw
- 22:02Speaker 4: the ball across the field. So when I let it go,
- 22:05Speaker 4: that's all I could think about. But I'm glad you
- 22:08Speaker 4: know Pat catter it of course, but wish I was
- 22:09Speaker 4: behind the line of scrimmage. But definitely got to balance that.
- 22:12Speaker 4: You know, I think some of those scramls that you
- 22:14Speaker 4: know you were talking about earlier, Brook, I think a
- 22:16Speaker 4: couple of those I probably could have just you know,
- 22:17Speaker 4: Tuck tucked the ball and ran got probably eight at
- 22:21Speaker 4: least eight to ten yards, So you know, just balancing that,
- 22:24Speaker 4: and you know the defense was to play so off
- 22:26Speaker 4: just running the ball, taking you know, what the defense
- 22:28Speaker 4: gives me and using my legs a little bit. So yeah, a.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Couple more rushing touchdown state.
- 22:34Speaker 3: What do you like about using your mobility in the
- 22:36Speaker 3: right zone.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's just you know, it just gives
- 22:38Speaker 4: a defense something else to worry about. The first one, Uh,
- 22:41Speaker 4: they played that play pretty well, and you know, of
- 22:45Speaker 4: course we were able to capitalize that. You know, old
- 22:47Speaker 4: line was blocking pretty good. So I just you know,
- 22:50Speaker 4: skped to the edge and you know, got in the
- 22:53Speaker 4: end zone. And the second one, like like we talked
- 22:55Speaker 4: about earlier, I think the defense was so worried about
- 22:58Speaker 4: Nazi from his you know touchdown. You know that that
- 23:01Speaker 4: backside was just wide open. But great great play calling,
- 23:04Speaker 4: and it was it was pretty much wide open. My
- 23:06Speaker 4: job easy.
- 23:06Speaker 6: So what are you talking about more than what's there?
- 23:09Speaker 6: Is that easier to do when there's a pretty good
- 23:11Speaker 6: number up on the.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Scoreboard and and you're running.
- 23:13Speaker 4: The ball well and the things.
- 23:14Speaker 6: You're generally doing good, you know, you're not pressing or
- 23:17Speaker 6: something like that.
- 23:18Speaker 5: I think.
- 23:19Speaker 4: So, you know, I think biggest thing late when we
- 23:21Speaker 4: were up pretty big was just you know, staying on
- 23:25Speaker 4: the field and uh making that clock run. So you know,
- 23:28Speaker 4: I wasn't trying to get greedy at all. I was
- 23:30Speaker 4: just you know, trying to take what the defense gives me,
- 23:32Speaker 4: and yeah, just keep that clock rolling and keep the
- 23:36Speaker 4: ball moping.
- 23:37Speaker 1: So yeah, anyone else out there, did you out there? It?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Did?
- 23:43Speaker 5: You know?
- 23:43Speaker 4: I'm s looking at the Raiders' offense. They're going on slocated,
- 23:45Speaker 4: so you know, I'm not surprised. I saw something on
- 23:48Speaker 4: social media earlier this week saying that, uh, you know,
- 23:50Speaker 4: I I think we bought like fifty percent of the ticket,
- 23:52Speaker 4: so uh, a big shout of descillination for showing up
- 23:55Speaker 4: big for us and coming to support that.
- 23:58Speaker 1: So yeah, read to hear from the guys in the
- 24:01Speaker 1: locker room after such a big winning great to get
- 24:03Speaker 1: the win, and really, Jimmy, I'm not saying you're getting
- 24:08Speaker 1: your season back in track, but when you see a
- 24:09Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys team get beat out against the Lions on
- 24:12Speaker 1: Sunday night and then they had four hundred yards offense
- 24:14Speaker 1: against US, I'm not saying the pressure was honest, but
- 24:17Speaker 1: I feel like it was a good way to go out,
- 24:19Speaker 1: put that steam and get that win on the board.
- 24:21Speaker 1: And now you guys are heading over this weekend for
- 24:23Speaker 1: this game this Sunday on Sunday night football against a
- 24:27Speaker 1: big opponent. How excited you the head over this week
- 24:31Speaker 1: and first time in Pittsburgh as well.
- 24:34Speaker 2: First time in Pittsburgh, Michael first Steeters home game. The
- 24:37Speaker 2: one and only Steeters game I've been to so far
- 24:40Speaker 2: was the Vikings in London back in twenty thirteen, I
- 24:43Speaker 2: think it was, so it's it's long overdue. Look really
- 24:47Speaker 2: really excited just to not only to experience Hines Field
- 24:50Speaker 2: for a game Sunday night football under lights, like you say,
- 24:53Speaker 2: against the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers. The Jets of
- 24:57Speaker 2: I was struggled recently with the trouble in London and
- 25:00Speaker 2: then Robert Sala been let go, so it's going to
- 25:02Speaker 2: be interesting to see how they get on in Pittsburgh.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I mean that crowd dozi insurs are going to be loud,
- 25:07Speaker 2: They're going to be rowdy, the terrible towels are going
- 25:10Speaker 2: to be twirling, and we're going to be right in
- 25:11Speaker 2: the middle of it. So look just absolutely buzzing for that.
- 25:17Speaker 2: And I think as well, just talking about the Jets,
- 25:21Speaker 2: I mean that they're that they've been struggling to find
- 25:24Speaker 2: an identity so far this season and the recent kind
- 25:27Speaker 2: of turbulations haven't helped. So I think the way the
- 25:30Speaker 2: students are playing now. We've righted the ship a little
- 25:33Speaker 2: bit after the defeat to the Colts, and the Cowboys
- 25:37Speaker 2: are coming off a massive performance relatively speaking in Las Vegas.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I think the momentum is going to be there offensively
- 25:44Speaker 2: and defensively. I feel like, look, our defense has been
- 25:46Speaker 2: doing it all season long. We take our defense for Branton,
- 25:49Speaker 2: I think sometimes, but I think our offense now is
- 25:53Speaker 2: beginning to find a little bit of rhythm, a little
- 25:55Speaker 2: bit of identity itself. And I think it's like it's
- 25:59Speaker 2: going to be a hell of a weekend regardless of
- 26:01Speaker 2: what happens. But I think a victory on Sunday Night
- 26:03Speaker 2: football would be nice, a nice way to cap off
- 26:07Speaker 2: our trip.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we've seen first hand over the last few weeks,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and let's not be around the bush here. They struggled
- 26:15Speaker 1: in London on various sides of the on both sides
- 26:18Speaker 1: of the ball, but in various factors as well, and
- 26:20Speaker 1: you could sense, I guess from my own sort of viewpoint,
- 26:26Speaker 1: the disappointment that they had and in the locker room
- 26:28Speaker 1: after And we're recording this podcast prior to their Monday
- 26:33Speaker 1: night game, so it'll be intriguing to see how they
- 26:36Speaker 1: get on in that game. But you know, da wog,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I guess first off, you know, do you really see
- 26:41Speaker 1: it as an advantage that you have a day more
- 26:43Speaker 1: to prepare than the Jets going into this week? And secondly, obviously,
- 26:47Speaker 1: in terms of what Jimmy said, for you, big deal
- 26:49Speaker 1: heading from the greatest county in Ireland over to the
- 26:54Speaker 1: best state in America. How's the thoughts?
- 26:57Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what, Michael, it's not only my first
- 27:00Speaker 3: time to Pittsburgh, but it's also my first ever NFL game.
- 27:03Speaker 3: I haven't been lucky enough to get over to London
- 27:05Speaker 3: to watch any of the games, so it's very special
- 27:07Speaker 3: for me to get over there and be my first
- 27:09Speaker 3: NFL game to get a chance to watch the Steelers.
- 27:11Speaker 3: So I'm absolutely pinching myself. Still doesn't feel real, and
- 27:15Speaker 3: but just yeah, we'll we'll cut back on to the Jets.
- 27:17Speaker 3: You know, of course that extra day rest it makes
- 27:21Speaker 3: one hundred percent of the difference. I mean, of course
- 27:23Speaker 3: we haven't watched them yet. We will find out tonight,
- 27:26Speaker 3: but it's difficult to know what team we're gonna get.
- 27:28Speaker 3: I'll say you and Jimmy seen first hand us we're
- 27:30Speaker 3: in London for that game. You should probably better equiped
- 27:33Speaker 3: to answer the question than me. But as I'm sure
- 27:35Speaker 3: you know, not even just in the NFL, but every sport,
- 27:37Speaker 3: whenever a coach is fired, there's a susceptible a bounce
- 27:40Speaker 3: that's gonna happen. You know, it's crazy to think, with
- 27:42Speaker 3: a win tonight not leave them actually on top of
- 27:44Speaker 3: the se despite everything so Aran Rodgers, of course, from
- 27:48Speaker 3: from what we've seen so far, nowhere near that level
- 27:51Speaker 3: we used to see in you know, in Green Bay.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Whether it's down to the eg in or the change
- 27:55Speaker 3: of personnel or just the injury stacking up. You know,
- 27:57Speaker 3: he doesn't seem right. But even despite their offensive struggles, Michael,
- 28:02Speaker 3: the defense is playing really well, which makes the solid
- 28:05Speaker 3: fire and even more baffling. You know, it's just the
- 28:07Speaker 3: side of the ball that they're playing well. Their first
- 28:08Speaker 3: and yard per play, second and yards for play against
- 28:11Speaker 3: the pass. You know, they have some really good defensive
- 28:13Speaker 3: players like saust Gardner, Quinn and Williams only.
- 28:15Speaker 2: The name a few.
- 28:17Speaker 3: But it's definitely set up to be a drop game,
- 28:18Speaker 3: you know, and it'll be interesting to see how they
- 28:20Speaker 3: get on tonight against the bills, but hopefully regardless of
- 28:22Speaker 3: the opposition, myself and Jimmy and Dean shout out to
- 28:25Speaker 3: Dean as well, are the good the good luck charms
- 28:27Speaker 3: and are gonna be needest to see us over the line.
- 28:29Speaker 3: So really looking forward it. But as long as Jimmy says,
- 28:34Speaker 3: the trip is a massive thing, but the winners and
- 28:36Speaker 3: must need so hopefully regardless of that, well, we'll be
- 28:39Speaker 3: coming home on the flight home with a w as well.
- 28:43Speaker 1: He really looking forward to seeing how you guys going
- 28:45Speaker 1: on the weekend. I know we'll catch a lot of
- 28:47Speaker 1: it on the Steers Ireland social channels and see the crack.
- 28:51Speaker 1: We might not have a podcast before that, will see
- 28:52Speaker 1: the crack. I think you guys should go over there
- 28:54Speaker 1: and enjoy yourselves and obviously enjoy everything in the city
- 28:57Speaker 1: has to offer. Jimmy, I guess the last thing I
- 29:00Speaker 1: said that you mean is I hope when you're improving
- 29:03Speaker 1: the one on one to one on one with with
- 29:05Speaker 1: this team, seeing him in action and then hopefully two
- 29:08Speaker 1: and one in however amount of years if we ever
- 29:12Speaker 1: see the team play closer to home.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, to be perfectly honest with you have
- 29:19Speaker 2: the game in London in back when they played the
- 29:22Speaker 2: Vikings was it wasn't great, and that's that's always left
- 29:25Speaker 2: a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth because
- 29:27Speaker 2: you know, it was the only time I've seen Ben
- 29:29Speaker 2: Roethlisberger playing person. Unfortunately that the Steelers were all over
- 29:34Speaker 2: the shop that night. It was wet, it was a miserable, cold,
- 29:38Speaker 2: rotten night in London, in Wembley Stadium. We've all suffered
- 29:41Speaker 2: through a lot of those, so I have a good
- 29:43Speaker 2: feeling about this time around. And as Dave says, there's
- 29:46Speaker 2: three lucky Irish terms traveling over to root on the
- 29:50Speaker 2: Steelers this weekend. So look, I think the way the
- 29:52Speaker 2: team's been playing recently, I mean, let's let's be honest,
- 29:56Speaker 2: we all went into that Vegas game with fairly low
- 29:59Speaker 2: expectation is given what happened the two games previously, I
- 30:02Speaker 2: was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a solid overall
- 30:04Speaker 2: team performance and there's definitely a lot of belief in
- 30:08Speaker 2: that locker room, and like you could you can just
- 30:11Speaker 2: see that there there was there was there was a
- 30:13Speaker 2: definite buzz. So I do think they're going to carry
- 30:15Speaker 2: that into Sun of Night football. As I keep saying
- 30:18Speaker 2: it's it's under lights in Pittsburgh. The place is going
- 30:20Speaker 2: to be absolutely rocking. It's going to be electric, and yeah,

- 30:28Speaker 2: good night for the for the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
- 30:32Speaker 1: That at bringing back a bar of rock?
- 30:34Speaker 5: Yeah?

- 30:37Speaker 1: bring us back a bar rock? Yeah, bring us back
- 30:39Speaker 1: some good luck as well a bar of rock.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I'll need to contact my my contacts in Pittsburgh and
- 30:45Speaker 3: see if we can get rock. I don't know. I
- 30:47Speaker 3: think that's more of a Donny Golding.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Is that a drap of thing? Jimmy? No bar of rock? Jeez?
- 30:52Speaker 1: There you go. Well, bring us back a bar of rock.
