Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Pokemon has spent 30 years developing an entire world with thousands of locations, and somehow one tiny town in Canto is still one of the most mysterious places.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Today on the podcast, we're going to be discussing the history and lore of Lavender Town.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: With appearances across five different Pokemon games, we'll be discussing the differences between Ghosts and Ghost type Pokemon, Mr. Fuji, his connections to Blaine, and Sinobar Island, and of course, how Pokemon actually handles death and the afterlife through the Pokemon tower.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: As always, this is just the start of the conversation, subscribe if you're new and share all of your comments down below.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to Hidden Power, this is a Pokemon podcast.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Dusty
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, and soul silver art, what the?
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Today, we're going to be talking all about Lavender Town.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: This is maybe going to be a new series on the podcast, but I think Lavender Town is one of those iconic Pokemon locations that is actually broken out outside of the general fandom, and it's actually recognized just at large, culturally.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like when people think about generation one,
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: lavender town does come up it is it's a place of a lot of mysteries a lot of honestly a lot of it's the source for a lot of initial Pokemon lore and I still think even 30 years later as we celebrate the 30th anniversary there's still so many things that I so many questions that I still think
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: we have as Pokemon fans that I've just been left unanswered.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to be talking about a lot of these things today.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Where would you guys like to begin?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: We can keep this personal or we can maybe just dive right in.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it is like super nostalgic, even just seeing this image, even though it's got to believe in ghosts on the top of it.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: But like lavender town instantly, when I see this image, all I hear is the music, like you just, the music is, you just have heartling.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's so part of the whole, the whole thing.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: It gives you so much nostalgia.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh,
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really like a spooky person.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I'm very suspicious, but in, in, in, listen, I know who it is.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Ghost type.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Are you superstitious?
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, Ghost type.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, Ghost type.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm, I'm spooky.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm spooky.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: No, so like, so like I am spooky in the sense that I love I really like spooky vibes, which hence why I like the ghost type.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not spooky in the sense that I like like scary stuff.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want more stuff.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: I just like Halloween spooky general type vibes.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I guess, okay, let's talk about the defining features of Lavender Town.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: So Lavender Town, it is, I want to say, I guess it's the first town that you go to after, well, you get there, so it's in the Lavender Town is in the east side of Canto, and after getting your first three badges, it's after the second,
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: cave dungeon um you travel through actually honestly yeah you travel through the dark I didn't even think about that but you actually have the travel through the dark cave um there's no it's the rock rock tunnel is what it's called but it is literally a dark cave because you need flash to light the way right actually never thought about that but yeah like that might actually be a little bit more intentional and connected to
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's like you navigate your way through the start cave, which you can do without flash, but if you get flash, you light the way you navigate through the cave.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's a pretty tough dungeon at that point in the game.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then you find yourself in Lavender town, which is full of.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: Ghosts to be quite in and honestly of creepiness Well, but they're literally our NPCs and I have some of my games in front of me and I I when we have this conversation I'm gonna be I think navigating through the game to try to get some examples, but I do there are in fire and leaf green Probably also in Red Blue and yellow there are characters who will be like in the town They'll be asking you questions like do you believe in ghosts?
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there's a I think there's a person who will literally say
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, in denial.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, I don't believe in ghosts.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe in ghosts.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: But wait, what is that?
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: What is that?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want your shoulder.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: And then they, yeah, what is that hand?
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then they kind of fake you out.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: And you eventually find yourself in the Pokemon tower, which is, uh, which is, you know, a just a giant tower.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: Feel it's a great cemetery.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a cemetery tower And yeah, and you do find these ghosts.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: This is what's weird.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: They're not ghost Pokemon.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're ghosts or at least they're presented to us like ghosts like I feel like in generation one Yeah, I feel like I feel like real ghosts were real and it wasn't until later generations that I feel like a lot of that got retconned
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: publicly, but I wonder if that's still all real.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of saw it more as like the world, like we in the natural world, just like perceive these Pokemon as ghosts.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's basically what it is.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, well, obviously the Pokemon themselves are ghost Pokemon, but it's like, we just see them all as this generic ghost thing.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then once you get the self scope, you can actually see them as Pokemon, I guess.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: because they are Pokemon.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: They're not, I mean, they are ghosts, but they are, but what they are good.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like it's both, you know what?
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: I have those that are presenting as ghosts.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: Those are really mean to have much sense, but they're Pokemon.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's like we're hiding as ghosts, but we're actually still ghosts.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: I personally love the thought that there is a difference of some kind between ghosts and ghost Pokemon because the classic example is you see the ghost of Merrillwack, but Merrillwack is not a ghost type.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: So I think there's a lot of cool lore that can be construed from that.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: Ghost Pokemon are like kind of like what you guys are saying like they have ghost properties.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they have like a connection to like After life or something.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, but like I don't I don't know if they're like real true and blue ghosts.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like I don't know if they're like the real deal because we've seen the real deal and it's not that and like you mentioned like it's a very funny
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: You mentioned them retconning a lot of stuff and I know like that you can't really retcon a moment like that But I was gonna say that like we did just see a remake of canto like in the past I mean, I want to say few years, but now it's
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's been a decade.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, let's say we just saw, I was like, wait, are you talking about fire in the league?
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: We saw it recently, where Merrillac was still a ghost, and that was still a thing.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: So like it's still within the the resencee of like you're on media.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you are right about that.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's one of those like, yeah, it's one of those really cool, like you said, Dusty, it's like the start of a lot of really interesting like lore for Pokemon.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think you're right.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think you guys are right that it's not like I think the ghosts that we see in can't so are really it's our perception because like okay so I'm talking to some NPCs right now and in leaf green.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: And the first guy says, Ghosts appeared in Pokemon Tower, I think there's the spirits of Pokemon that the Rockets killed, and he says, I think.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I think a lot of these characters are, they just don't understand it themselves, and then the whole plot is that we end up getting this technology from Silphko to get the Silph scope, which just allows us to better see.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: the things that are hidden.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's like an invisibility, you know, it's like seeing something that isn't really there.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, Ghosts are able to make themselves invisible.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's how we should be thinking about it, right?
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're just like, and we see that later with like, Kecleon.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, yeah, that's the perfect example.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: Kecleon going visible.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: But with the, whatever the device is, we're able to now, you know, see the, the Pokemon that are hidden.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: So that probably is, let's, we can keep going because I guess that doesn't totally do you, I mean, but that's how I understand it.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: That quote is actually really interesting because it, like you said, it like, presumes that they don't really know what ghosts are or like never seen a ghost before, even though they live in lavish tone and like there's ghost
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: He, he or she, whatever the NPC is comes up with, is like Team Rocket killed these Pokemon and they've come back as like vengeful ghosts here.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's like a vengeful spirit thing where we don't normally see ghosts, but since they were just like outright.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: killed you know they're they're here they're like stuck here kind of and I think I know that's and that's another good thing to bring up I like Pokemon do die Like at least in can't do they do No, they're definitely our other instances.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: They're they're in setting in setting moon.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of examples of like yeah PC's mourning their Pokemon, but the the clearest example I think
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: is, I mean, the NPCs are like acknowledging death, but the clearest example is our rival, who actually, no, no, I'm sorry, that's not a clear example.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that is a popular example, but I would have to actually pull up the text to confirm it.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: Basically the story goes that like you you battle your rival a couple times in Can't so he was just Rattata and then and then you fight him one last time in Lavender town and he no longer has his Rattata and I think I'm gonna have to pull up the text actually I'm gonna have to pull up the quote I'm not basically I'm gonna paraphrase, but basically you battle him you battle him in
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: Viridian City, you battle him in Cerulean City, you battle him on the SSN, and he's got this radicate at that point.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: And then the next time you go to battle him in Lavender Town, he doesn't have the radicate, and you see him at Pokemon Tower.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: And he actually says something like that, yeah, he says your Pokemon don't look dead, which kind of applies like maybe one of his Pokemon is dead.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like why are you here kind of, right?
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I'm here because I have a dead Pokemon.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I also want to mention, like, I know this is never going to happen because they've actively, like, burned the books and like, changed history.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: But like, I love how much they're talking about dead Pokemon.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think Team Rocket killed a bunch of Pokemon.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: like that is just like so intense and it's something you would never see in a modern Pokemon game.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's just a little bit of that.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of what makes Lavender Town so cool is the fact that they went that far.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, maybe subconsciously people even, and we could talk about this more later, but I feel like people even respect team rocket because they're depicted in this way.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: And in truth,
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: team magma, aqua, like I guess I want to say like even team plasma, like all these other evil teams, especially team flair, surely they have also killed Pokemon and we just don't see it in the game because these are, you know, they're, they're, you know, consumer products and don't want to be too violent.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: They toned it down a lot.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: They toned it down.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: that's what i mean like it's crazy like playing firehead back i'm like yo this is nuts yeah was this even in this game like the one the one channel channel or lady that you find and she's like give me blood yeah so i was like that's who psalis
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's actually unhollowing, but yeah, that is actually lower for me because blood that was like the that quote was the first time I ever saw blood written out like a waxed and so I was like blued like blued Let's blued Yeah, that's funny
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I guess in the death, it doesn't always need to be like violent, but like I'm the first NPC I'm talking to and and in the Pokemon Tower.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's this man and he says I came to pray for my dearly departed Cliferry.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: Sniff, I'm a wash in tears.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like these really, I think what's nice, like the nice side of this is that I think lavender town kind of like,
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: reinforces, I guess, like, the stakes, the bond that humans and Pokemon have in this world and how like, and how real it all is.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they're kind of depicting it as a, you know, we're all pumped about the new pocology book, right, because it's fun to think about Pokemon as animals.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: But part of that is also light, like the preciousness of life.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know,
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: And all these NPCs, I'm just talking to them now, and I'm like my growlith, why did you die?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's so, that's our point.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is what stuff.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's heartbreaking.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like, yeah, again, I think just like going revisiting this, it just kind of feels like, I mean, it just feels like we're missing something that we should have that we don't in modern Pokemon.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: That that's not to say they have to be like about death and despair the whole time and be all edgy about it, but like I think this actually is a good revelation that like it's not just about the ghosts it's about.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: uh, emphasizing the bond that you have because it's like this can be taken away.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: This can end.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's super important because it just makes the connection all the better.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like you after going through Lavender Town, you probably
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: As a kid, we probably were just like, yeah, this is my little Charmander, whatever, like, Laudidad, yeah, and then you walk through and you're like, you are my best friend.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: I will cheer for you forever.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: And again, at this point in the game, it's like, you know, you've definitely had some, like, challenging foes, and you've started to meet people, and like you're pretty, you know, you're about to get your fourth badge.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: But after Rock Tunnel, that's when the whole world opens up.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's when all of Canada opens up as like an open world like map before that.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's a pretty linear like progression, but then you pass Rock Tunnel.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: Now you have HMs and now you're going to, you know, all of those gates that are closed are about to open up and I think showing the player, showing us at this point.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like after your bond that, okay, there are stakes, you know, and then right after that or I guess like concurrently also introducing like team rocket as like a serious threat because this is when like the team rocket plot really begins and gets you know kind of juicy and serious like I think that all just it makes I don't know I feel it feels like a really good progression right it's like this is what could happen if things mess up and now here's a threat that is threatening you.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: And the world of Pokemon, which is the most threatening.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is the most threatening they sound.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's what I was going to lead with, actually, was like, teamwork, it's killing Pokemon.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of wild.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's just crazy that we talk about evil teams, quote unquote, and we're like, none of them are really evil.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then you go back and play Canton, and you're like, oh, yeah, they were like killing these Pokemon.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: which is just nuts.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's team rocket.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's really.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: Think of that was just like whatever.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: They're stealing Pokemon.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing crazy.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then death is now involved.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: The real real gangster's out here.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: So thinking more about these ghosts, another NPC at the start of the tower, it's one of the Chandler's, they say, like, oh, there's there's, there's uneasy spirits, you know, the spirits of Pokemon are like, unruly.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm two flights above now and she says another Chandler says, we can't determine the identity of the ghosts, which is kind of weird, the ghosts.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, another thing that maybe we didn't even say is that like,
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: has one ghost line, which is the ghastly line, right?
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, we got Mr. Vess in Gen 2, which is, you know, generation 2, we do go back to Canton on that.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's only one other ghost.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's not very, very rare.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: And it wouldn't be until like Generation 3, 4, et cetera, we're like, we start to see like a whole gambit of like new ghosts introduced into the world.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know, that's also, I don't know, I guess I don't really know
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: one ghost line in generation one.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: And they dedicated a whole town to it, essentially.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the wild thing.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, oh, we actually, that's true.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it makes sense that why the people in the town are like, we don't know anything about ghost types because there's just one line, essentially.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there are ghost types.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let me check.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: But you're also like, such an emphasis they put on this whole thing just for one line of ghost types.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I work.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, that's even, that's even a weirder.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's okay.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's even weirder.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's the craziest thing.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's almost a suggestion here that like there's almost a suggestion because you enter the tower.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: All these Pokemon are dying, blues, red, red, etc.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: Growleth is dying, Cliferies dying, they say regular Pokemon are dying, and then you meet all these ghastly, and then you meet a ghost that presents itself
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: as a merawak and I wonder I mean like is that the merawak is I'm thinking I'm like is that merawak like a freshly departed Pokemon and it has fully become a ghastly am I going a little bit too deep on this oh no that's interesting like our Pokemon are ghastly truly made of
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: Gaff.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, come on.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: Parted.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: to not be like, I guess I'm just trying to, I'm, I'm stammering because I think you're, I think you're already know what this.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're on to something there to be honest because we hear about a lot of ghost Pokemon that are like they used to be something else.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like that is kind of the emphasis with a lot of them because if you look at like Yamask, it used to be a human.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: phantom is the kid you look at a drapey drapey used to be like uh I mean it doesn't say it but it heavily implies it used to be a water type that was rolling Pokemon and then it became a ghost so we do know that that happens um obviously like going from spirit to Pokemon is like a
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: We would only be able to guess about, but I do think there, I mean, there is like kind of like reincarnation confirmed in Pokemon where they like someone can become a Pokemon through the process so I can totally see a world where like you die maybe you can like you have this like moment of like purgatory where it's like oh like my poor cubo son like I'm so sorry and then you become a ghastly.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and not to get too gruesome, but like, yeah, ghastly hunter and gangar, they're like shadows.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: They are also poison type, they're ghost poison type.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like a way to read this would be that like, if a Pokemon dies and it's
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, dead bodies, death, that is a type of poison, right, to other living creatures like that can bring disease for sure and so they originally meant with it too, but yeah, that's what I'm trying to like keep this apart and think about like maybe with their first intention with that was because nowadays I think people, you know, we're just like, oh, it's a
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: toxic gas and I've seen fun theories relating to like coughing and not to get that makes more sense Not to get too dark with it though, but like dead bodies are known for like once they start to cane their their gases like yeah They start to yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so that could I think that's part of originated I can try to be a what they were going for yeah
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: for sure.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Am I getting too gruesome with this?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just I don't know.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: Because I've really feel like when I play.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely talking about death.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: Happy Halloween.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: And now we're at the part in the show where we get to open up some Pokemon cards.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks to our sponsor, awesome CCG.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is actually the 30th anniversary celebration.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: This is the knockout collection.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, we're doing a nostalgic episode right now with Lavender Town.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to crack this open.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: There's a ton of classic Pokemon cards that you can get in this.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: They're like reprints of old cards from all the different generations.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: I've been looking forward to this set for like a long time.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: Have you seen any of this?
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have a little bit and the cool thing about it is it's not just the Pokemon from different generations It's like specific like kinds of cards from across the entire history of the TCG So there's like the dark Pokemon There's the yeah, yeah, I want to say there's like some tag teams in there like yeah I think there is format.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think there is it's really it's really really cool.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: When did you get into the TCG?
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I kind of I kind of like passively got into it about it's been about like a year and a half because my friends just started opening a bunch of backs.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm able to keep up on what's going on, but like it's
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: So like I at the same time it's too hard for me to really get into it just because it's like too much to keep up with Yeah, it's all not their lives.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's all stuff like that.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: So so that's why this sponsor is good because you can just pick them up We can actually see the cards.

- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: I want to get there's a bunch of generation two era cards like the neo era There's a there's someone oh look at okay.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of freaking out.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: I actually I'm actually excited because I've been thinking about this set for so long The first card we got I think there's this there's like a special EV.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry a special Pikachu and every pack as well So we got Neeteran female with the look with the 30th anniversary So I guess there's just some regular cards as well.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: I have a zoomerail
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm wanting, yeah, it's like a regular set that there's on me, so like, okay, special cards.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: So those were the special cards, okay, do this Meowth is super cute.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: That looks, uh, he's just like sleeping on a brick wall.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we get a zernie, yes.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see what else?
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: All right, and there's the Pikachu.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's the Pikachu, that's a nice one, look at that.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know that I feel like a kid right now.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what to expect And then there's uh, yeah, there's a there's a special basic energy for See that's sick.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know in Ken Sugamori actually did one of the arts come on camera He did one of the arts for For for one of these Pikachu's which is pretty nice Yeah, that's super cute.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm lingering because I'm actually interested in what is in this set We got one more pack right here
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: There is a his suyans or a card in this set.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, is my it's my personal favorite.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's like beautiful So I hope you get that yeah, me too.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it does look really sick.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we got I'm sorry guys I'm just like getting you can out.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like the joke is always that I can't just do something I've got to like spend way too much time on it.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: We got an embryo on sleeping I bet this is like a card that the fanatics are gonna go crazy for oh Nice, oh there we got a full art lap rest
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: With a side duck.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, there's so many crazy cards in this too.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking about like the the new card That's really nice.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of the new special ones.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: There's a shame in there as well.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we got Polki and then Pikachu on the back.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: Is that James Turner?
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's a James Turner card.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: Look at that Oh, that's such a good pickup dude.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to the flower binder So good.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even know James Turner had one of these.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: All right guys.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: You can
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: What is it what are you going to say I was going to say you can you can tell his art style of mile away really can the He does the like segmented line art.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's so good to easy it.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're right.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: There's like there's gaps in the lines Guys if you want to get some cards 30th anniversary we're celebrating it

- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: I love this Pikachu card, this is so good, thank you guys, I guess it's just like when I'm it's weird playing
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: or just copy and pasted from red blue and yellow, even though I feel like generation three started to in generation two started to make the world feel more like, you know, PG and on brand.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Fire and leaf green come out and they still kind of feel like they are, I guess, canonizing all the all the things that
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, all the, I guess, yeah, just like all the original intense intentions from from generation one of the interesting thing about that that's good to bring up because we talk about how like they've toned down on our Pokemon games and another thing that they've toned down is obviously like the game corner like we don't even have game corners in the area.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: but like with the re-release of fire early green thanks for saying they like it's still this it's still the same they keep the tax are you saying the game corners awful yeah i hate it it's okay no i love it this is off topic but i don't know i can stop there wasted so many coins i don't know
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: I figured it out in leaf green friends have been telling me what you're supposed to do is like get an amulet coin and you can farm and get like a you can get $20,000 in the semi- Islands for battling with the versus seeker you just keep battling these like rich girls you get all the money and then you can buy a bunch of buy a bunch of coins and then you can buy a bunch of TM's and that's what I've been doing in post game and it's been fun
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: See, but you're avoiding playing it.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: No, yeah, yeah, let's watch, yeah, yeah.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: But like my point was that these games have all these things that are toned down now.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: And, but like, they still bring back like Fire Red Leaf Green and like, it's still present.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: So like, they're not like, like, they don't wanna put it in newer games, but they're not afraid necessarily to like re-release it if that makes sense.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: that's almost like that would make me just be like okay now take that energy and it's like just put it into a new game like do what you do because I know they have to like adjust the ratings or whatever because it's like if you have gambling in a game it has to be rated such and such rating for like Europe or whatever.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I'm like, okay, like it's been a part of it's been yeah, it's been that way long enough.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're we're including the lavender town stuff in this, but it's like it's been that way long enough that like
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's like just bring a little bit of that energy to a new game and be like, okay, like nothing crazy, but this game is rated E 10 plus and yeah rated E because it's got it's it's got some some mentions and despair in it so yeah, I mean it's it's definitely more like adult yeah, but at the same time.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that the whole thing is very, there's like a, you can lift up the mood now, but it is very like touching in a way.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's like what you are saying.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that their intention was to be like, oh, this is dark and scary.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, scary.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it is.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's more about, it's more about like your best friend
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: is died and you kind of sad and like, you know, cuboans mother is died and it's sad and it wants to see its mother again, you know, it's like that whole, I think that's the main theme with the whole thing.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it remains a mystery to this day because it's like something that doesn't really fit into, it didn't become like a Pokemon trope.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: Every game doesn't have a, you know, two stage line where the second stage, you know, is depicted as like a dead mother that didn't become a trope therefore like that thing in general one is so weird and it kind of it does kind of confuse us because you're like, okay, well, if these ghosts that are mostly just, you know, ghastly and disguise are just ghastly.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: how is marijuana doing this?
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: So death is a real thing, you know?
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like your Pokemon really do die.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: I find it, I still find it really, really fascinating.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: I do too.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like too that uh, because the whole thing with lavender town is you have to get the silk scope to be able to like decipher the ghosts into Pokemon.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I think I don't necessarily know that that is like an ability that they're using to
- 30:31[SPEAKER_02]: disguise themselves.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like almost it's like kind of what we were talking about before, like, people just don't understand that, like, like, they can tell that there's like, like these spirits.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: So ghosts are there, there's your entities, but they don't, they just like don't get it.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: They don't know.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think the, the self scope is kind of like a metaphor for like opening your eyes and like,
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: dealing with the fact that like it's kind of like a two-edged sword in a way because I feel like because we see this moment of of there's the big bad ghost and then used the self-scope and it's Merrawack and to me that kind of reads if you want to look at it from like a kind of rosy lens It reads to me like it's like okay, some things are not as they appear some things are not as scary as they appear
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, like, yes, you're you're you're Pokemon Mike die, but it's memory will stay with you like that kind of that kind of like yeah, that's nice that's kind of the vibe I get from that old It's like it's like a force goes to Obi-Wan Yes There's the storm Yeah, but that it no honestly man, I guess it's really is just cutting dry all it really is is that like
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: and we happen to see the real ghost version and we're only able to see the ghost because of the self-scope, which just allows us to see ghosts.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, well, that's literally what it does.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: So like what else, I mean, I feel like, isn't it once you guys see the mirror whack though?
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: We're as before you couldn't see it.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: You could only set up a price right that applies to all the ghost types, too.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: Just marijuana, so yeah, but I guess what I'm wondering is, no, actually, I'm pretty sure you can, can you find Cubone as well in, uh, I think there is a tower.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think there is a small where did you get your Cubone?
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: you know, I don't really don't fire it.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: I forget, but it was it was around this time for sure.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was before because I got this the one that was the soonest.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you can see, so you can get a cue.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so you can get a cue bone, but that's kind of confusing as well.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: And you, that's kind of it is.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: But you could, I think you could, I think you could kind of, I think you could chalk this up to
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so what happens is when you're in when you're in Pokemon tower, you only every encounter is just a ghost sprite.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a Pokemon.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Once you get the source scope, then you start finding ghastly and hunter, you can also add a very small encounter rate, find a cue bone.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess one way to read that is
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: There are a bunch of dead cuebone that are now showing us ghosts, but also maybe they're also just like, you could chalk that up to like, okay, now just, you know, random encounters, you can just find Pokemon now and some of those Pokemon happen to be alive, like maybe though, I don't know, yeah, you guys think I wonder if they're like hidden to, I don't remember.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like they're hiding, they're just hiding, they don't, they don't show themselves to you, but maybe because you could, you could think of a head cannon there, you could
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like haunter and ghastly are like putting on like a, a facade for all the Pokemon in the, in the tower.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: Weird.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: So when let's go peek to an Eevee, you can actually find Zubet and go that in the tower as well.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: That makes sense.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: But see, are they hitting those ghosts though?
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: Even with Q-bone, I don't know.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: Do they look like ghosts that first, so you can't get them into, you see, use the self scope, or you can go in there and like instantly get a Zubet, you know?
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: And guess what, you can also find chancey at a rare spawn.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: And let's go.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's I didn't even know that.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: What is that?
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's great lie.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: That it's healing things.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's trying to like heal.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: But the PD's having some problems right now with the site.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is on four.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's it.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think that honestly that kind of makes things a little uh yeah.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: A little complex if if if cubo is is appearing that way, but I think that another way you could look at it again is.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: is basically like people are specifically in the tower.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_02]: People maybe are like just like frightened and scared.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's like almost maybe like their their fear that is preventing them from seeing these Pokemon properly, which feels a little kind of feels like a reach a little bit, but it's like I could I could I could I could sort of see it because it's like
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: Again, this is like the one place in the entire Pokemon world that this happens.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_02]: And we know that in reality it's just because it was like a game mechanic, but lore-wise, I think, I think you could say that due to the fact that
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: Kanto has only the one line of Ghost Pokemon, and they have this place that's like supercharged for like spiritual energy or whatever.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like you could say that people in Kanto just kind of like don't understand Ghost types as much, it's just not a part of,
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: of something that they know as maybe as well as other regions and so it comes off as like this spooky haunted place just because to them it is kind of spooky and haunted because they don't really get it yeah that makes sense like when I know that that makes a lot of sense it's like you just assume everything that is you just assume anything that you see
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: is going to be this ghost that you have seen maybe or maybe you haven't seen but it's like scarier in your mind like when I yeah there's been times where I'm going out in the middle of the night with the dogs and I hear things in the woods and because my senses are dimmed and I can't see I'm like what is this like a deer like this is a big creature and it's usually just like
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: a squirrel or a possum or something, you know, because but I can't see it.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: So it's I just assume the words.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think they kind of very good analogy.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: That makes sense.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but yeah, before we move on, I think since we've been dancing around it, I think that marijuana is actually interesting to talk about because they ended up kind of, I don't want to say kind of retconning it, but retconning it in with it's a lowland form, it becomes a ghost type.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know like how that actually ties into the whole thing other than maybe they originally wanted marijuana to kind of have some ghost things or they just were like,
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: Let's make it a ghost type since it was back then.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know they're not like lore-wise that connected because they're in a completely different region for different reasons.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: But it is interesting that they did this.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: And like, was maybe before Dusty, you were talking about how Maroak, or maybe it was Hoops, I don't forget.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: But you were talking about how Hoops are, how Hoops.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: No Hoops don't die.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: How Maroak was, um, like, becoming...
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: How Mairwack was like turning into a ghost like first it was still a Mairwack and then it was like It's transitioning a bit basically into a ghost.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: So like maybe it was like an original Mairwack that was becoming like in a lowland Mairwack or a ghost type Mairwack.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a fun theory.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think, yeah, I think this is, I think what it, if anything, because I think these are different Pokemon, but if anything, I think what this does is it, because Q bone now has an evolution that has access to the ghost type.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: that tells me that, you know, the ghost, you know, Lavender Town Merrewack and a lowland Merrewack.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're the same, but I think I almost look at it as like cubone and Merrewack are, they like, they have ghost type in their DNA.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: If if Merrewack ever got a mega form,
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: There's a good shot that maybe it becomes ghost ground right because maybe it has access to that power, which is maybe why this whole time.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: Merrillac is able to appear as a spirit and maybe I guess like.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe have like Maroak in the in the afterlife is able to have more like I guess like control over its spirit versus the, you know, eradicate or growleth or can't see that are also mentioned right in in in in and the in the Pokemon tower, right.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's how I would look at it.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's like that's the only like.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the only thing that I would like almost like 100% believe.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's like the implication that I think deal will inform makes, then you could kind of theory craft be all right, which is, yeah, I'm doing a little bit of that, right?
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's good for me, for me, it like ties them ties it all in.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I was going to say the same thing is that like cubones in the tower, like found with all the ghosts in can't do because cubone has like latent ghost type abilities essentially.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: And if we read the Dex entries from Red and Blue because it never removes its skull helmet, no one has ever seen this Pokemon's real face, and then in yellow, and in let's go, it says it wears this skull of its deceased mother.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's cries echo inside, which is creepy already.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_01]: Come out, yeah.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's, I think it, it just has this inherent ghost type.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's not the ghost type because it's not, but like, I mean, it feels like a ghost type Pokemon.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's not the dead mother, but it's cursed by the dead mother.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: It literally wears a skull.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: You have grossed that is to like actually think about.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's like even like an evil talisman.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's like you kind of get some of the power.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, kind of something like that.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: It also, like, a little in Merroack, it's one of those ghost types.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, is it actually a ghost or does it just, like, hang out with ghosts, kind of, and you know what I mean?
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's body is totally physical, and then it just has, like, this weird ghostly flames on its bone club.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: Now, so it's like, hmm, you know, is it acted?
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: It actually died, or is it just some kind of ghost person thing?
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's so cool that it really is one of my favorite Pokemon ever you know this episode is is very spooky
- 41:15[SPEAKER_01]: and what's even spookier is how much amazing support we get over on Patreon and right here on YouTube by our Hall of Fame members are the highest, the highest supporters, let's shout out our people, the people who make this whole show possible.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: Jen Renegade, the real Poki-God normal guys, Steven Nicholas Taylor, Nathan Schorter,
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: S.E.H.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: Art Gold, Louis Jervais, and Hornet Highlander, as well as floppy discrepairman, Zoo, Zoo, Zoo on, father dot, dagda, ball guy, and Ryan.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you guys so much for being mythical tier supporters.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: We appreciate you guys so much.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: And at the RCS tier, we also have Chief Keith, 93 supporting us at that RCS tier that mid level RCS tier.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and finally at the game freak and level tier these guys are the creators themselves that they really know what's going on To those types.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: We have no idea, but they do they do Ramtastic young Smokey and young Smokey once more because this man All of you guys support a season game freak in level tier, but young Smokey Support us on both platforms which is insane
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: We love you guys.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: We support you and we can not do this show without you or anyone else Who the hundreds of other people who support at the five-dollar tier.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you guys so much for your support Yeah, that's kind of insane.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's more.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: We got to see more that that's honestly kind of insane that a little in Merrwack Exist so I was also gonna bring up the fact that okay, so like
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think part of this conversation right we're talking about like we're talking about the Kanto region in Gen 1 and 3, but like we also see Kanto three years later in the Jodo games.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I think before we kind of get into that, I guess I wanna like set up all, like what goes Pokemon, I guess, like what goes Pokemon are real in Canter or connected to the Canter region.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: And we obviously have Gassie Hunter, Ganga, in Generation 2, mis-drivis is introduced.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: And correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure you can only get mis-drivis technically in Joto in Mount Silver.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: which is the mountain that borders, I guess, the can't so in the end of the world.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that, that has a whole dark story behind it.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, really?
- 43:46[SPEAKER_02]: No, really, really does.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_02]: Basically, the one place you can find it is in Mount Silver and Mount Silver before it, like the base of it, like this outdoor area, before it looked the way it does in the game, there's a beta map of it in the game where it's like a forest.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: And basically, if you put two and two together, the idea is that this area was originally based on a forest in Japan that it's a forest that is known for for people going there to
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, dude, to do things.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: If you get it's not.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, so so I've heard of this whole I didn't I had no idea that that was and they had to make in any way.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's that's What they had the the audacity to put misstrivists there Which is like crazy to think about man.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's tough out there It is so tough to be a Pokemon card collector right now because finding the product that you actually want can be nearly impossible
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why we've partnered today with Awesome CCG.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome CCG is my local card shop and they are always my number one choice for getting cards because they always have products.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: Good luck finding anything at Target.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: They've got two locations in New England and an online store.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, just for Hidden Power listeners, you can use code.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: Hidden Power for 5% off any regularly marked products.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: Pokemon cards, plushies, board games, magic, the gathering.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: Any other TCG products that you could think of, they probably have.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, you can save 5% on the latest Mega Evolution products with code, Hidden Power, and the timeline for the rest of the year is looking pretty slick.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: The next English set is all about Mega Ray Quaza Gen 3 ports.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's gonna be releasing in November, but if you want to be slick and show off to your friends or maybe your wife or maybe the discord group chat, you can get a bunch of these brand new mega-rate quasi-cards right now in the Japanese set storm emeral done.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: So you can get all these beautiful cards three months early and personally you didn't hear it from me, actually you did hear from me.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Japanese cards are just higher quality.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't play the TCG, I'm a collector, so I love to collect the Japanese cards and they're
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: cheaper.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: Links are in the description and the pinned comment.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: Use code hidden power to get 5% off any Pokemon cards that you were already going to buy.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's a no-brainer.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you awesome CCG for sponsoring and now back to the podcast.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so Mount Silver appears relatively deep into Kanto.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: It is identified as a judo location by the pokey gear.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess, I mean, that's interesting.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: The way that's awarded makes it sound like Mount Silver might technically be Kanto, but anyways, what I was gonna say is that we have the original Gasly Hunter Ganga, we do get
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: But then there are some Pokemon like Merwak that get a, you know, a lowly Merwak gets the ghost type, um, which is kind of cool.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: We usually type Flosion has a history and form that as the ghost type.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that is never something I would have, I guess predicted if we were doing a video about like,
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't feel like that really connects, uh, maybe the volcano.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really sure.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I don't really.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: Galarian Corcela, where was I going to bring this there's a and then there's a bunch of like cross gen evolutions.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Well, maybe not a bunch.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm scrolling here.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's actually not that many.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: We do have mimic you being related to the image of Pikachu.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of interesting.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: Are there mimic you around can't tell that I're just like, yeah, yeah.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: There's also, there's also, uh, an ILAP.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: An ILAP is now like, yeah, to Gen 1.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was in a wrap up on.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: And annihilate this year and make you get super early in the game.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so that is kind of cool to think that like, okay, Minky also has that DNA in it.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not trying to do a whole episode on this, but like, Yeah, I feel like we have seen over the last like 10, I guess, yeah, over the last like 20 years.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: can't do a Pokemon, a couple can't do Pokemon getting access to the ghost type, which is weird because it's like when steel was introduced, only the magnumite line got this steel typing, and there's some other Pokemon now, like you have glaring in me out, but that's in galer, that's not in can't do.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then the dark type was given out sparsely to some Pokemon with regional
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: The dragon type I also think is kind of a latent type that is started to like emerge in a lot of different Pokemon a lot of different can't tell Pokemon, but the ghost type.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's part of this, but it's just I feel like it's it's still kind of held at the chest.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's widely given out is kind of what I'm trying to.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, true.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: Very good.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_00]: I will say.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: With Gingar.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: Did you say that one of the emp is NPCs was saying that a clovery died.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: that is all that is what i it was going to crazy i'm going to go fact check that right now why what do you think about
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: Because the theory goes that Gengar is a shadow or like a ghost, I guess, of Clifabel.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, dude.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: So like, oh, yeah, that's good.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even think of it.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I had no idea, but when I saw it there, I just talked to that guy now.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was like, you know, my Clifaries passed away.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, then there's Gengar everywhere.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's, it kind of, it was, it's like another connection that I've never even thought about before.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_00]: to the gangar being literally a clove-fable ghost.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to use a scape rope and then I'm going to go talk to that guy to confirm that.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure it was clove-fairy, right?
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, which is...
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to talk to him in one second.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm walking up.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: It is this old man.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's balding.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: He says, I came to pray for my dearly departed clove-fairy sniff.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a wash in tears.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to me that's like a clear reference to this.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and also and also his cloverie just died.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_02]: He did not have to throw some you did not have to catch just give him a stray there with the balding Yeah, and he's having a lot of time I mean, it didn't just die.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably died like 30 years ago at this point Dude, that's crazy
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have a, I think we should get into the theories a little bit with Lavender's because it is like obviously it's like the pinnacle and like the original thing that generated Pokemon theories back in the day.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_02]: There's still a lot of unknown there, but I feel like just in general that's basically confirmed because its name is literally like it comes from doppelganger, so it's like that's literally what it's like supposed to be.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_02]: But I've also had another kind of like quirky crazy theory with this line of Pokemon.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: And that is the idea that Gassley was originally not going to be a part of the evolutionary line, because it's like, like, hunter and gang are look like each other.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a Gassley doesn't really look like them.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then if you look at the Pokedex, the Pokemon that is right next to Gassley that comes right before it is cloister who has the exact same head and eyes as Gassley so it's almost like it died and became a ghost like look at that.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_02]: They look like an evolutionary line, so that's kind of my conspiracy theories that it was long.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_02]: It was a part of that line and they broke and then hauntering gang guard with their own thing and then they reshuffled it.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_00]: They could co-exist.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that it means that in you're not saying this, but I don't think it means gasoline never existed.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's just that they were separated.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think that makes a lot of sense.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of a cool progression as well.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's like maybe Gassie wasn't even a ghost.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was supposed to be like a, I don't even know.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm almost imagining a shelter.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_01]: then evolves into cloister, which is like the pinnacle of strength.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's like kind of like annihilate how a annihilip changes completely upon evolution cloister then is like maybe evolving one more time, but the pearl freeze itself.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just doing some create.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's no evidence for this, but I can kind of see a progression like that where it's like the pearl freeze itself, the creature inside freeze itself and is now faster rather than defensive.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then the other crazy thing.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple other crazy things too, and it's that shelter and cloister Like they have that black head with those big eyes.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and the other thing is that that the angry the gen one angry eyes The head is encased in some kind of shell or like covering and gassely has that because it's covered in gas like the shell He comes the gas
- 52:54[SPEAKER_02]: And then there's also, it kind of shows up a little more in haunter, so maybe it's kind of like a just like a carry over that they they decided to roll with, but like shelter has the tongue and then these Pokemon kind of have the tongue thing too.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: They forgot about their suit to scare people.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: So there's just like a ton of like random connections between these Pokemon.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like it's like I don't really think this was like a cut cloister evolution But I do think that there is some like there's a reason why they're so similar like yeah, maybe they like Develop them at the same time or or maybe they were gonna be connected in some way But I just think that it's interesting that there's like so many connections there
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's interesting.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: You've been in branch evolution from shoulder, just like the shoulder died, or it lost the shell.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that could be possible because, yeah, that actually, because like.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_02]: I always thought this was a good idea, but then I was like, cloister doesn't, our ghastly doesn't really feel like a third stage Pokemon, like it's literally a first stage Pokemon.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_02]: But it would be, that would actually make a lot more sense as like a branched line.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe that's why they, maybe that is the, the answer because we didn't really have branched evolutions in Gen 1.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_02]: So like that, that didn't really become a thing till Gen 2.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 54:17[SPEAKER_02]: maybe they were like, we like this idea, but we don't have the technology or whatever.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: So they didn't want to be being branched properly.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was just like, it was just like another evolution.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, what do we do with this?
- 54:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, maybe it was another idea or something.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I like it.
- 54:34[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_01]: But then you got to throw, then you got to throw Tangle in there as well, because I do Tangle also has the, it's just like a blast of a mob obscured by something else.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe you can't see the shape of it though.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: So We don't know what Tangle is actually.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_00]: We'll body shape.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_00]: So It has feet.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: Now, these Pokemon are so weird, and then you get the whole creepy pasta, but I, oh, yeah.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think I was so I'm like, I don't really care for creepypasta's, but that is like, that would ravage you know, when I was, yeah, we have to talk to you to begin.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we have to talk about the creepypasta's because like I said, it was the first, like, that was like,
- 55:13[SPEAKER_02]: the genesis of like Pokemon lore, Pokemon theory, and then also Pokemon, I mean, like it is a creepy pasta, so it's more than just like a theory, but the thing is with Lavender Town, like I think enough time has passed that people forget how big of a deal that was, because it wasn't just like, ooh, spooky story.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, no, this is actually a real thing.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_02]: because I bought a copy of Pokemon Green like I imported it.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_02]: So I could hear the music in Lavender Town in that game for myself because the whole idea was that it was a different pitch and it like it made the kids like
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: basically off themselves.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was the whole, that was the whole story on the level of the town.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, they're not so crazy.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_02]: Before, before we are where we are now and everything like the, like the internet is like properly like developed and it's like, there aren't like back then, it's like, no, it felt real.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_02]: So the point where I was like,
- 56:27[SPEAKER_01]: The copy of Pokemon Green like I was benefiting trouble was that if getting arrested doing drugs We were as Pokemon fans We were dancing with the we were dancing right up to the line of of of danger What these yeah, I'll virtual danger.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but it was like there was an implication that it was real
- 56:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was like it wasn't just a story.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_02]: It was like I remember thinking that too.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: I used to watch like the TV show like ghost stories are though aren't ghost stories just like It's real when it that it's like yeah, but then and then like the other things that go with it There's like the the buried hand or the buried alive and the white hand There's that hole have you never have you do not know about a live well not I might I probably do you get to explain it to me though
- 57:12[SPEAKER_00]: I will tell you right now that I didn't know anything about any of this.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't hear about the period of life until literally yesterday when we were like, we're going to do, we're going to do episodes like this episode about this and I was like, I don't know what a creepypasta even is.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: I looked at all this stuff.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, that's crazy.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_00]: I have never heard any of this.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just crazy that the fans went so crazy with this.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that game freak meant for any of this to be.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's in me saying I'm shocked that you guys didn't know about that.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, basically, I don't know, very, very, very alive and white hand.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_02]: They were like these two.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_02]: I forget what this how the story goes.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: But basically, it's the idea that they are two like secret bosses that you can
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: gets to a year as boss characters in the Lavender in the Pokemon Tower and you can fight them and basically if you fight Barry to live and he like beats you he like kills you essentially and you like how would you even encounter him?
- 58:19[SPEAKER_02]: It, it, there's, see, yeah, no.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_02]: So like the part of the story is that like it goes with like the playground room or side of things with genuine where it's like you do this thing the special way and you can get it to appear.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_02]: So that's like the whole story and
- 58:37[SPEAKER_02]: People actually like created this with like a ROM hack, but back in the day, at least when I was viewing this, I was viewing this back in like 2011 2012 era, and so I had no idea, ROM hack.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_02]: We're really a thing and so I like watching a video of it and I'm like I see this in the game Like it's clearly the game that you're playing and then I'll see this guy pops up and I'm like well This has to be real because it's in the game, you know, so it was like this It was just like this pre-internet age where you had no idea and so you couldn't help but believe it and It just added to the I would have believed that it added to the aura of lavender town because it was just like a crazy story that
- 59:23[SPEAKER_02]: It like you were seeing the proof right in front of you, basically.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, that makes sense, dude.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_02]: I remember watching, like, I remember what.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I didn't, I've never seen this, but I do remember falling for like other other other, other rom hacks I think early on, like 15 years ago and thinking that they were like just like legendary Pokemon that I could obtain, that there's no way to obtain.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like this was a development.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_02]: This was like the OG, uh, I don't know, it was it was like the genesis of all the all the theory this and all the all the like cool stories that you hear nowadays about Pokemon and rumors and yeah, like it it was like this was so much of that and it was.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_02]: it was I was thinking about it and it's like it's kind of sad that time is passed and like we've kind of moved on from that era because like there was an era where it was like telling these like creepy stories was like the thing yeah and it sort of added a mistake to the games because it was like again you didn't
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_02]: you didn't know whether it was true or false.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like you, it sounded too good to be true, but then it's like you saw literal video of it and you're like, holy crap, this is real.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_02]: I would believe right.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want you to experience it.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that stuff wasn't around back then.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like people making things.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I kind of want to bring a couple more things up as I'm navigating Lavender town.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple more things on the idea like what goes Pokemon.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I feel like all the characters are talking about like restless souls.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they keep saying and something that I did learn or at least I forgot and then relearned recently while playing the well playing leaf green on switch is my friend was he told me if you get the item finder.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a couple of locations.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_01]: There's like super secret items that you can get in leave green that you can only get with the item finder when you stand exactly on the spot that these hidden items are.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_01]: You can't find them if you're just like not on the spot in using the item finder.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_01]: You won't detect anything.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're on the exact spot, use the item finder.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_01]: You'll get secret items and one of the items.
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_01]: is the Soothe Bell and you get that at the top of the top of Pokemon Tower.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm talking to this NPC right now in Lavender Town.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_01]: She says the ghost of Pokemon Tower, the ghost singular of Pokemon Tower is gone.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_01]: So that's Marawak.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_01]: Someone must have Soothe, it's restless spirit.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking about the Seuth Bell, and I'm thinking about the effect of the Seuth Bell, which is it makes a Pokemon more friendly, right?
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_01]: And now I'm thinking about return and frustration, and I'm thinking about Pokemon called CM and Shadow Pokemon, and how there's a similar mechanic there, where to, you know, have a Pokemon no longer be a Shadow Pokemon, you have to purify its
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_01]: And even the effective shadow Pokemon where you have this like purple ghastly ghostly aura around the Pokemon when they're like enraged in their shadow form to get rid of that or when you get rid of that and you purify them then they just then it is like normal Pokemon and I've never thought about this before, but maybe could there be a connection between shadow Pokemon and these ghosts like maybe the Pokemon of
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the Pokemon of Pokemon Tower are really just like enraged and they're like ghost or they're like shadow Pokemon or a version of that, you know, yeah, I never thought about this.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just thinking about everything.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I definitely think it has to do with like them being trapped there like those.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and maybe one way or another.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like there's those that's very similar to like, you know, me too in the berserk gene and, you know, even some of the clone Pokemon, like a lot of these things have been lined up before.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_01]: but I don't know, I wonder if any of that is related at all.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_01]: Something else I think is worth talking about.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_01]: We could talk about team rocket as well, but what about Mount, not Mount, Mr. Fuji?
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in his little sanctuary, his little house, Mr. Fuji, he's the guy who gives you the, the, the, the polka flute, you know, let's pull up.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's pull up his, his decks.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_01]: So he's his page.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_01]: He is like a whole other,
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_02]: interesting layer to to lavender town because his story starts like well before lavender town he basically like exile himself in lavender town and dedicated his life to caring for these like orphaned Pokemon is like these lonely Pokemon because he uh helped to create Mewtwo basically and
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_02]: Me too when crazy and destroyed Sinobar mansion and probably killed some people.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_02]: Probably killed some people.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_02]: Probably killed some people.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the first demonetized video.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have to believe out a lot of the words.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_01]: I totally forgot about that.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_01]: He is like mentioned with like later on with Sinobar Island.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I'm just talking about how like maybe there's a connection between Shadow Pokemon and these ghosts or these perceived ghosts and, uh, you know, clone Pokemon and YouTube, but then yeah, Mr. Fuji is also in Lavender town.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm on the Boba PDF.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_01]: I almost want to I haven't confirmed this, but it says it says on Boba videos is according to super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS slash Wii U deep cut.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what that is like it would if that's like It's like a I bet there's a statue or like yeah, it's one of those little trophy that you get from Mr. Fuji or something
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_01]: It says Dr. Fuji discovered mu, and that's kind of interesting.
- 1:05:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then it says a relation between Mr. Fuji and mu is also implied at Pokemon Emerald, and that I wonder has to do with the event.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_01]: that fingers crossed we get in the emerald port for switch double fingers grown.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: I've never seen that because I've never played it, but that's really interesting.
- 1:05:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then in some animated works, it suggests that he is the scientists related to the creation of Mewtwo, but that would be a different canon.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_01]: And then that would imply that he is in fact the author of the Pokemon Mansion journals, but again, I think I don't think there's like hard
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and I kind of I do forget right now.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_01]: What's I didn't I was just there.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_02]: So so the event the event of new Essentially confirms it because there's all the pieces that are put together where like we know He's from set of our island originally like his portrait is literally at the Pokemon laboratory
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, we know that's where Mewtwo was created and the Pokemon Mansion journals are there.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_02]: And then when you go to faraway island, there is this, it's like the signpost, and it basically says like,
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_02]: It says something about mu and like I hope that like I have discovered mu after all this time or something to that effect and it's signed It's basically signed Mr. Fuji like his name.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_02]: What game is this?
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_02]: In the Emerald event.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, the catch though is that the, the, the, the text is like, scroll.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_01]: They do have it right here.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's scrolled onto the sign.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's not completely legible.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_02]: So you have to like piece it together yourself.
- 1:07:17[SPEAKER_02]: But like it is signed as Mr. Fuji.
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, okay, Mr. Fuji was there.
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_02]: So he obviously wrote those, those letters in the journal, which means he, he created me too.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like that is, like, you got to put it together yourself.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_02]: But like, that's what happened
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_00]: and then he was banished to Lavender Town.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, essentially, or banished himself.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_01]: So there is some, this is, this is really interesting.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_01]: There is some text, I think we should read this.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Lavender Town.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this is from the famed checker.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of cool.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_01]: He has like a unique sprite, which actually I haven't even seen in the famed checker.
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_01]: I should probably check this out.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_01]: Is this gonna be so cool?
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_00]: And Jen, one game's had like all these little lore bits.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, dude.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_00]: Look at this.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's a cute one.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_01]: You don't battle him, so you don't see this, but this is his like, this would be his battle sprite.
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to keep it in a weedle.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of fun.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I got to play it through fire and leave green as Mr. Fuji's apprentice.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_00]: We need more sprites like that, or like the Pokemon with the trainer in first fight.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it looks okay.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_01]: So Lavender town little girl says, what does this person do?
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's really kind.
- 1:08:24[SPEAKER_01]: He looks after abandoned and orphaned Pokemon.
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's great in the Pokemon tower team rocket grunt says, what it says this old guy marched right up to our hideout, then he starts ranting about how team rockets abusing Pokemon.
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we're just taking it over as adults, which is kind of funny.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like in generation one.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_01]: At like there are so many times even not even like just with all sorts of characters even gym leaders people look down at you as the player because you're not an adult that I feel like is like a total through line of the game.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_01]: Lavender town Pokemon fan magazine.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_01]: uh... that's not it uh... lavender town man there's a rumor i hear that mister foodies not from these parts originally either and that's what you guys are saying yeah would he be from is he from home would he just be from another part of will look at the very next entry okay here we go oh is it you're okay so cinnabar cinnabar gym there's a photo family or friends
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's a photo of Blaine and Mr. Fuji.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_01]: They're standing shoulder to shoulder with big grin.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_01]: So those old guys grew up to be brothers.
- 1:09:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they could be brothers because I mean, they're both bald.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:09:45[SPEAKER_01]: All right, man.
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the strange today.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 1:09:49[SPEAKER_00]: The bald bald.
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say the two Japanese men, the two old Japanese men, yeah.
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_01]: And Sinebel Island Pokemon Journey, a journal.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_01]: The editor says, the shy Mr. Fuji turned down our interview requests.
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_01]: He is a kindly man who has adored and respected in Lavender Town.
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then from Mount Fuji to red, instead of hoping for happiness or just your Pokemon,
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_01]: of just your Pokemon, can I get you to wish for the happiness of all Pokemon?
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Damn, I feel like there's got to be like, there's got to be like another game.
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we need to, we need him as a main character like in another game, Mr. Fuji.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Legends, can't tell.
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_00]: the the it takes place where they were creating mutue and follows all the events of it.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, my my con professor.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, my concept I actually did a video on that and my concept was that like it's kind of like legends arcus where like
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_02]: Synabar Island is like your hub map and then you trek out to the different areas, but the different areas are all on far away island and you're like trying to find me basically and that's eventually create me too.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's cool.
- 1:11:07[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like honestly, that is like the, that is Pokemon, that game, that concept is like Pokemon's version of the, the occurring of time remake.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like that is the game they need to make that's like the pinnacle of like with the poker flute of fans.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, actually play it to wake up soon.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's play as young Mr. Fuji.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think we have to, we play as young Mr. Fuji.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_01]: You play, you play, yeah, what's his first name, Mr. Doc?
- 1:11:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely all right.
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_01]: I do want to I do want to kind of segue and I want to make sure we're talking about like can't till three years later and I even booted up Silver version so I want to like talk to some of the I haven't played that game in so long So I want to talk to some of the NPCs, but just just to put a bone this with all these little through lines of like You know not understanding what the spirits are but there is confirmation of the afterlife But not really and then it's like you know
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_01]: angered Pokemon making your Pokemon happy like these I feel like these are all loose ideas that maybe could align the last thing that I think I just kind of want to like unpack or at least acknowledge is that Mr. Fuji who's all about making Pokemon happy gives you the polka flute and when we're talking about I mean these things are different but when we're talking about Pokemon dying right
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_01]: like what is a Pokemon sleeping?
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's not dead.
- 1:12:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you're not dead when you're sleeping, but like he's made a device or whatever.
- 1:12:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a flute that awakens Pokemon, awakens Pokemon, and I don't know.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like there's something here.
- 1:12:49[SPEAKER_01]: There's something here.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_01]: There's something
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_01]: Upon hearing polka flute, Sleepy Polkman will spring awake.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_01]: It works on all Sleepy Polkman.
- 1:12:59[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe the post-it life is like dancing, you know?
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it's like his attempt to create something that can bring people or like...
- 1:13:11[SPEAKER_02]: people are Pokemon that have died.
- 1:13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, back from the dead because there's people that he helps to kill.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:20[SPEAKER_01]: I guess it could be like medicine.
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's maybe it functions like a medicine.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's like not sleeping, but if someone's like, you know, if someone, and actually in Pope revival blessing.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, but like in Pokemon, sleep is a status condition, like paralysis point, what does that do?
- 1:13:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, heal.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_02]: It will storage your HP.
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_01]: Or does it?
- 1:13:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well, well, the status condition doesn't, but like if you use rest for instance, you should sleep and you heal yourself.
- 1:13:53[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot of through lines with sleeping and like life and like vitality.
- 1:14:00[SPEAKER_02]: So it's interesting that this guy that's like associated with dead Pokemon has this flute that awakens sleeping Pokemon.
- 1:14:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's there's definitely like thematic like kind of paralyzed for sure.
- 1:14:13[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to, I want to know about that.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_00]: In ancient times, I mean, this is more in the West, I guess, because you're right, he's a Japanese man.
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_00]: But in the West, saying that someone fell asleep was like equal to someone dying.
- 1:14:29[SPEAKER_00]: Not like, you could say like, he fell asleep, but they actually died.
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 1:14:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just a connection between it.
- 1:14:36[SPEAKER_02]: That kind of sounds like it's probably like the equivalent to saying like he passed away or something.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I got to put a let's go Pikachu again.
- 1:14:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm craving some canto.
- 1:14:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you've been playing fire relief green this whole year.
- 1:14:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm craving some canto.
- 1:14:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that is, that is something to say about lavender town, though.
- 1:14:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they made lavender town look so good.
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_00]: And let's go Pikachu and EV.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_00]: Even in the tower, when we were looking at the screenshots before, like, the giant Maruac ghost is not compared to like,
- 1:15:07[SPEAKER_02]: They fleshed out the whole thing ironically, you know, like it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would, I would,
- 1:15:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's 3D that it's I would as well as they change the catching that's it and I'm it.
- 1:15:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just wanted to change the controls.
- 1:15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's part of it.
- 1:15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so.
- 1:15:49[SPEAKER_01]: Kanto, we see we go back to Kanto three years later in golden silver and crystal and heart gold and soul silver.
- 1:15:58[SPEAKER_01]: What do you guys think about this?
- 1:15:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to boot up my game.
- 1:16:00[SPEAKER_01]: I got, I should have heart gold, um, hey, I'm going to check out Lavender Town and heart gold and in in silver version.
- 1:16:09[SPEAKER_02]: I had no idea.
- 1:16:09[SPEAKER_02]: So this is where you live.
- 1:16:11[SPEAKER_02]: This is your house.
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_02]: Sold, sold house.
- 1:16:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's my house in Canto.
- 1:16:18[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a few different houses around the world, but you know, so yeah, so I mean what what do you guys think about this because we're introduced to Lavender town and the Pokemon tower as a cemetery and then three years later
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's still lavender town, but it's kind of industrialized a little bit three years later.
- 1:16:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the Pokemon Tower is transformed into, uh, it's still, I guess it's the radio tower.
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm looking for the button.
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_01]: But then, yes, so there is the radio tower.
- 1:16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, here it is.
- 1:16:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it can't do it.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_01]: The tower was converted to the Kanto radio station with all graves being moved to either the House of Memories or Underground.
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_01]: The new House of Memories is placed where the Pokemon mark, where the Pokemon has been before, which in turn was moved next to the Pokemon Center, the Kanto radio.
- 1:17:15[SPEAKER_01]: station can be entered, like it's Jodo counterpart, but only the ground floor as the upper floors are completely off limits.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_01]: This was done to prevent a takeover similar to the one that was seen in Joto, so that's like the actual world explanation.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_01]: I love it explained it.
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wanted to the receptionist.
- 1:17:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I wanted to go to the, I want to go to the top.
- 1:17:37[SPEAKER_02]: I want to go up there.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_02]: So bad.
- 1:17:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like that was the thing I wanted to do.
- 1:17:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I love that there's like a progression between the two games though.
- 1:17:46[SPEAKER_00]: It just makes the world feel like lived in and different.
- 1:17:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, makes the games feel different.
- 1:17:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, oh, this, this has changed from the last time I was here.
- 1:17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:17:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's still interesting.
- 1:17:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's interesting because like,
- 1:18:01[SPEAKER_02]: In a way it kind of seems sad that this sacred tower that's like a burial place is now like a radio tower seems kind of like you just like paved over Like this like special place But it's interesting that like the tone of the town doesn't really reflect that kind of sadness It's actually like happier in gold silver crystal because like the music is not like spooky anymore.
- 1:18:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's like kind of a
- 1:18:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of like, it's emotional, but it's like, like, in a happy way and a positive way.
- 1:18:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's almost like, it's almost like this town was like being haunted and now it's not haunted anymore.
- 1:18:41[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, peaceful.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's it's so weird, but it's true.
- 1:18:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's like it, uh, they got rid of all the haunting of the town.
- 1:18:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's still like a little bit of a creepy town, right?
- 1:18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Because, you know, there's still, there's still stuff going on there.
- 1:18:55[SPEAKER_00]: But I, yeah, I just love, I love the progression of it all.
- 1:18:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think that it has to do.
- 1:19:00[SPEAKER_02]: Probably like in real world like with them being like, oh, yeah, we need to tone this down from Yeah, I was just gonna say that because like They probably heard all those creepyposses and they're like we can not allow this to continue No, that's true though.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_00]: They probably they might not have liked it that fans came up with like really creepy stuff about their their games It's possible
- 1:19:25[SPEAKER_02]: Especially because it I mean like yeah, like the it got pretty dark at the height of it So I can do we see them being like yeah, we can't like endorse this by like bring it back So they would have had to change it which I don't blame them for but I love I do love the way they did it because like you said like it shows a progression It shows that things have changed it very much makes sense.
- 1:19:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's in line with
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_02]: with the universe because it's like, yeah, we had a radio tower in Jodo.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_02]: So it only makes sense.
- 1:19:59[SPEAKER_02]: We would get one in Kanto and there was already this tower here.
- 1:20:03[SPEAKER_02]: So like, I think they did a good job of like writing it out where it makes actual sense.
- 1:20:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's not just thrown together.
- 1:20:11[SPEAKER_00]: Also, Kanto, I think it makes so much sense with Kanto because Kanto is like the region of like progression or like modern, modern, modernity, modernity, modernity, modernity, modernity, there you go, I was just fishing for it, but
- 1:20:31[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think I think Cantos like like a progressive like technology kind of region and so if you go to Canto three years later Oh, yeah, we're gonna get rid of like the traditional like grave tower and we're gonna put a freaking radio tower there instead.
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what I mean like that's that's Canto to a T
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, have you seen our merch store?
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_00]: We've got all kinds of different things, but we also have this cool hidden stamps iPhone case that has tons of little easter eggs that we've talked about on the podcast just things that we've said or anything then.
- 1:21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Anything that, yeah, you've heard and you want to have on your phone case we got it here and the art is.
- 1:21:13[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty pretty good.
- 1:21:15[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 1:21:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a man.
- 1:21:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a man one, you know, in Sineror Day was the other day, you know, I love all the I love all the Man's yeah, yeah, it made it's a round the time of want me set that our holiday cards I think we had a bunch of those stabbed design flying around, but yeah, there's a bunch of Easter eggs in here
- 1:21:36[SPEAKER_01]: yeah so check out our merch store and back to the episode thanks guys so i got some uh i'm i'm in lavender town right now in harcold which by the way this is so sick like like i just didn't do i haven't outplayed this in a while and this ds just looks so good
- 1:21:54[SPEAKER_01]: I got my electiveire, but I'm in a, I'm in lavender town about the house of memories and it says, may Pokemon spirits rest easy again talking about the spirits.
- 1:22:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's not really like the ghost, but it's kind of been they're now they're calling it the spirits.
- 1:22:07[SPEAKER_00]: But you see how it's a tonal change from like their restless, their, their stuck here.
- 1:22:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, now we have the house of memories where they're at peace.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:22:18[SPEAKER_01]: And this old man outside says people come from all over to pay their respects to the spirits of Pokemon.
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, these Pokemon never really die.
- 1:22:28[SPEAKER_01]: They just, yeah, they're like, uh, but then I go into the house and they're literally our gravestones, which is kind of crazy.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_01]: I came with my mom to visit Pokemon resting places.
- 1:22:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then the mother says, there are other resting places of Pokemon here, I think.
- 1:22:42[SPEAKER_01]: There are many chambers that only Mr. Fuji may enter.
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_01]: So this is Mr. Fuji.
- 1:22:47[SPEAKER_01]: The Pokemon that lived really a long time.
- 1:22:50[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't treat them as Pokemon.
- 1:22:52[SPEAKER_01]: I loved them like my grandchildren.
- 1:22:54[SPEAKER_01]: This is an old lady saying that.
- 1:22:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then, oh, it's Mr. Fuji.
- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_01]: He says, welcome.
- 1:23:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 1:23:00[SPEAKER_01]: You appear to be raising your Pokemon in a kind and loving manner.
- 1:23:03[SPEAKER_01]: Those who love Pokemon come here to pay their respects to Pokemon.
- 1:23:08[SPEAKER_01]: Please pay homage to the spirits of Pokemon.
- 1:23:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure that will make them happy.
- 1:23:14[SPEAKER_01]: This is a pretty cozy little place.
- 1:23:16[SPEAKER_00]: this is so good actually though this is like this is good lore is what I have to say so I think obviously the main thing is that you were in Canterbury years before and you like quelled the angry spirit of the Marrowak or whatever and so that's how a lot of this also changed but it's also this whole story that we just laid out which is Mr. Fuji made me to bed things happened he
- 1:23:41[SPEAKER_00]: fled or went to lavender town lives there takes care of cubones and a band in pokemon and finally like as time is progressed he actually built like a little safe haven sanctuary for them and you can see even in this picture that like the there's flowers and grass and all of that like it's it's like
- 1:24:00[SPEAKER_00]: piece is like coming over the city kind of thing.
- 1:24:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just it's kind of beautiful and I guess like I guess I I guess I would I would want to see in game to make sure that we're looking at the same To make sure that a lot of these things are like all part of the same like cannon I would want to actually confirm for myself That like the mutoe connection is real.
- 1:24:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'm like believing it because we have seen it in the movie
- 1:24:27[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we see it in the movie maybe we see it in like I mean he was involved.
- 1:24:31[SPEAKER_01]: He was involved I mean whether you made me to himself is different, but I'm curious to see where that pops up But I think but this all does track because Mewtwo's whole thing is that he wasn't being it's like Frankenstein He wasn't being treated like like a real individual right and so like he's you know, so then he rebels And so Mr. Fuji's whole thing is that he wants it's like he's he's saying we get a treat all Pokemon
- 1:24:54[SPEAKER_00]: with with respect, you know, yeah, I mean, I think originally he probably, yeah, originally he probably was like that because he what we know is he discovered me who was like probably so psyched about it, but they used me to to make him you too and and he probably wasn't very psyched about you so you heard him like going off about team rocket in that one line.
- 1:25:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, these people are bad people, so, you know,
- 1:25:18[SPEAKER_00]: That kind of stuff.
- 1:25:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's a that's a beautiful little story.
- 1:25:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go into we set out to create the world's strongest Pokemon.
- 1:25:26[SPEAKER_02]: You are succeeded.
- 1:25:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:25:29[SPEAKER_02]: What a tough line for it.
- 1:25:31[SPEAKER_02]: I know these kids show.
- 1:25:35[SPEAKER_00]: So good.
- 1:25:36[SPEAKER_00]: Started everything.
- 1:25:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:25:38[SPEAKER_01]: So good.
- 1:25:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm okay.
- 1:25:39[SPEAKER_01]: I got to put this game down because I'm just like getting lost.
- 1:25:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, there's
- 1:25:43[SPEAKER_01]: This game looks so, I think I'm, yeah, this is just a sidebar, but like, Fire Red looks so good on my Switch 2, and I'm playing this on DS, and I'm like, yeah, actually this holds up as well.
- 1:25:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put this right here, I'm gonna just put this down, it's like, I'm locked back into the pod, because I just play a bunch of Pokemon, I must put the best games ever, so.
- 1:26:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, so much fun.
- 1:26:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so, three years later, the world does change, the tower gets reverted into a radio station, it's kind of weird,
- 1:26:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think maybe like the one good thing or like the through line, the thing that prevents the radio tower from feeling like evil or whatever is that the radio tower is almost like a manifestation of like or like a progression of like Mr. Fuji's will because his whole thing is that he you know once once he's Pokemon to be happy and he wants to spread.
- 1:26:31[SPEAKER_01]: love, and he gives us the polka flute to revive, not to revive, but to play for polka man, because they enjoy the sound, and that's what the radio station actually ends up doing, right?
- 1:26:43[SPEAKER_01]: So it's almost as if like, like, I feel like this is almost a way that the game freak is showing us that like, Mr. Fuji is actually like
- 1:26:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's progressing this mission, you know, he actually has more reach.
- 1:26:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's not just influencing lavender town, but he's influencing the entire canto region.
- 1:27:01[SPEAKER_01]: So that's, that's kind of cool.
- 1:27:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's a nice little bow on top, for sure.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 1:27:06[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 1:27:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, we talked about the self scope.
- 1:27:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going through my list right now, but everything, just to make sure that we've covered everything, I wanted to mention one thing specifically about the tower.
- 1:27:17[SPEAKER_02]: And this is another, this is kind of a theory, but I think it again, I think it's like kind of implied.
- 1:27:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:27:24[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 1:27:25[SPEAKER_02]: If we go way, way, way, way back to the the capsule monsters pitch of Pokemon, so like before it's even Oh, there there are some sketches of just like just different things that sort of give you an idea of what the world is like Like it shows like a Pokemon center and it shows like like it shows like a Pokemon trainer like kind of like out in the cave or in the forest or whatever
- 1:27:53[SPEAKER_02]: And there's one of these pictures that depicts Lavender Town and it shows the Pokemon Tower and the player is like looking up at the tower and there is a caption that is written in Japanese on the page and according to Jesse it's this one oh yes perfect this is the page I was going to mention.
- 1:28:14[SPEAKER_02]: So a court apparently.
- 1:28:18[SPEAKER_02]: This caption on this page that's showing the Pokemon Tower, it apparently says it says like Tomb of the Mythical Beasts or Mystical Beasts or something like that.
- 1:28:33[SPEAKER_02]: Wave of the Mythical Beasts and where else have we seen a grave of Mythical Beasts?
- 1:28:42[SPEAKER_02]: Showtower!
- 1:28:43[SPEAKER_02]: Jodo.
- 1:28:44[SPEAKER_02]: So burnt tower.
- 1:28:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like they had this idea like all the way back then.
- 1:28:48[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
- 1:28:50[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of brought back and made into the Jodo tower.
- 1:28:54[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of like in a way like the legendary beasts were kind of like almost going to be Jen one Pokemon.
- 1:29:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:29:02[SPEAKER_00]: We're like Jen two Pokemon.
- 1:29:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's interesting man.
- 1:29:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's actually really you're right.
- 1:29:06[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 1:29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Dude ghosts.
- 1:29:07[SPEAKER_01]: You're that's a I like how you that's that's nice because ghosts do show up in Jodo Through Yeah, do through the legendary beasts.
- 1:29:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like they died and got revived so interesting.
- 1:29:20[SPEAKER_01]: So if some people want to become ghastly Or if they just become spirits right and they just die but what if they don't die what if they're resurrected with hollow and hose whole thing is that it's it's about rebirth.
- 1:29:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's a Phoenix
- 1:29:34[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.
- 1:29:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like this, this honestly does seem like this was going to be like the original storyline for the tower and then they just changed it to the cubone storyline.
- 1:29:44[SPEAKER_02]: I felt like this probably what happened and then they were like, but that was really good.
- 1:29:48[SPEAKER_02]: So let's use that for the next game.
- 1:29:51[SPEAKER_02]: Danch is insane to think about because it's like anti-engine one.
- 1:29:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know.
- 1:29:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, but here's the thing, Arcanine is a fire beast for like a beast.
- 1:30:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:30:02[SPEAKER_01]: And it's called, it's a, it's classified as the lightest Pokemon.
- 1:30:06[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:30:06[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what dies in the lavender town?
- 1:30:08[SPEAKER_01]: The, the Pokemon Tower, Grala.
- 1:30:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's an NPC that mentions that they're Grala Pastor.
- 1:30:13[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 1:30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 1:30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:30:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 1:30:16[SPEAKER_01]: Home full circle.
- 1:30:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean that would have been insane at the top of the tower to see Arcanine, that would have been crazy.
- 1:30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's dude.
- 1:30:26[SPEAKER_01]: I would have loved that.
- 1:30:28[SPEAKER_01]: Damn.
- 1:30:29[SPEAKER_00]: So much fun, Laura.
- 1:30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also thinking about Eevee though, I guess there's no like hard connection, but you do get Eevee right after this.
- 1:30:36[SPEAKER_01]: You're rival ends up with Eevee in like yellow version.
- 1:30:38[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like...
- 1:30:39[SPEAKER_01]: I do think they're probably, they're probably our connections here.
- 1:30:41[SPEAKER_01]: We might have to talk to Toby about this to be quite honest.
- 1:30:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I feel like he might be able to make some connections between this because because the EV evolution and legendary beasts of Jodo like that, that's been made that's a popular theory, but, but the Pokemon Tower, I feel like we don't talk about that enough because it's not like it doesn't have that like,
- 1:31:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's just, okay, I got to, I got to bring this to the lab.
- 1:31:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot to the Toby left.
- 1:31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:31:08[SPEAKER_02]: There are a lot of cool, just like threads like that that you can kind of connect and put things together with.
- 1:31:16[SPEAKER_02]: Because, yeah.
- 1:31:18[SPEAKER_02]: like to to continue with the EV thing.
- 1:31:22[SPEAKER_02]: This is getting off topic, but EV you obviously find and sell it on city and then sell it on city is also where you find Erica.
- 1:31:31[SPEAKER_02]: Erica is dressed up just like a communal girl.
- 1:31:35[SPEAKER_02]: She's the grass-type gym leader.
- 1:31:37[SPEAKER_02]: And sell it on city is also the place where you could be evolutionary stones.
- 1:31:40[SPEAKER_02]: And the one stone in gen one that you can buy there that doesn't
- 1:31:47[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, I, you know, a beta Pokemon was scrapped in generation two.
- 1:31:51[SPEAKER_00]: Leafy, so there we go.
- 1:31:54[SPEAKER_00]: It comes full circle.
- 1:31:55[SPEAKER_00]: Hot leafy on my beloved.
- 1:31:57[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, so we talked about team rocket.
- 1:31:59[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we did talk about team rocket.
- 1:32:01[SPEAKER_00]: We brushed over it.
- 1:32:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're just, it's a lot of, I don't know how many times we can say kill, but it's a lot of kill.
- 1:32:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it really is.
- 1:32:10[SPEAKER_01]: But that's all pretty interesting.
- 1:32:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm trying to think if there's anything else for me, we're missing here.
- 1:32:14[SPEAKER_01]: This has been kind of, this has been a nice episode.
- 1:32:16[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of like just kind of take your time in lavender town.
- 1:32:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think it actually, it maybe goes a little bit deeper.
- 1:32:26[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder why Team Rocket, did they say like, why Team Rocket just randomly kills Pokemon?
- 1:32:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, well, here's the the other just the criminals, I guess, the other theory that relates to Team Rocket and Lavender Town is that I mean, it doesn't doesn't go in that direction, but it basically states that they are trying to get the silk scope to rate Pokemon tower, so they can catch all the ghost types because it's strong against psychic, so they can do it too.
- 1:32:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that's also why they go get the master ball later or fend off.
- 1:32:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good point.
- 1:33:00[SPEAKER_00]: So little, do they know that all of the ghost types in the tower are part-points in time, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 1:33:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing post game stuff, but I'm playing a fire red, and my team is I bred a special site there.
- 1:33:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, site there now has the egg move.
- 1:33:31[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
- 1:33:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's the most powerful bug type move in the game.
- 1:33:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's called, what is it?
- 1:33:39[SPEAKER_00]: Fury cutter.
- 1:33:39[SPEAKER_01]: Silverwind.
- 1:33:41[SPEAKER_01]: Silverwind.
- 1:33:43[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it doesn't work.
- 1:33:45[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't learn it.
- 1:33:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was a mega horn and Jen.
- 1:33:48[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe Jen won or Jen too, but maybe by firehead leaf green.
- 1:33:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's different.
- 1:33:53[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't, I don't think site there.
- 1:33:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have no idea.
- 1:33:57[SPEAKER_01]: Side there has a, side there's strongest move in leaf green and firehead is, is the egg move silver wind.
- 1:34:04[SPEAKER_01]: It does 60 damage, but it has the chance.
- 1:34:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's like ancient power.
- 1:34:08[SPEAKER_01]: It has the chance to, like increase all of your stats in one turn.
- 1:34:13[SPEAKER_01]: which is pretty cool, that's his or her best move as well.
- 1:34:17[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, I've I've I've site there, Cidra, Porygon, what else do I have?
- 1:34:23[SPEAKER_01]: Flareon.
- 1:34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Sounds like a soul team right now.
- 1:34:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's so good dude.
- 1:34:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's a fun team.
- 1:34:28[SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna say soul your favorite region.
- 1:34:30[SPEAKER_02]: You don't believe me.
- 1:34:32[SPEAKER_02]: It should definitely be Jodo because I'm counting these bug types.
- 1:34:38[SPEAKER_02]: And there's literally like 10% of the Jodo Pokedex's bug types.
- 1:34:42[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, that makes so much sense.
- 1:34:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:44[SPEAKER_02]: There are 10 bugs here, and there's 100 Jodo Pokemon.
- 1:34:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's cool.
- 1:34:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's cool.
- 1:34:48[SPEAKER_02]: Plus the Kanto Pokemon.
- 1:34:49[SPEAKER_02]: There's always the Kanto Pokemon.
- 1:34:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's, there's only three bugs.
- 1:34:52[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I'm so excited to get to play Jenton just to, uh, we're off topic.
- 1:34:57[SPEAKER_01]: Just to just to get a bunch of new bugs.
- 1:35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and in grass types and like like all the regional little things that are like whatever I'm like well, I feel like I can't wait.
- 1:35:07[SPEAKER_00]: New book Pokemon.
- 1:35:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I feel like We're certain there are certain types that are just like especially exciting to see what they will come up with for new Pokemon For me ghost types that way dragon types another one that comes to mind, but bug is kind of like that, too because it's like
- 1:35:25[SPEAKER_02]: Bugs are insane if you go deep enough, you know, so yeah.
- 1:35:29[SPEAKER_00]: What we need.
- 1:35:31[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, what we have.
- 1:35:32[SPEAKER_00]: What we need is bug some more bug ghost types.
- 1:35:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:35:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we only have one.
- 1:35:37[SPEAKER_01]: True.
- 1:35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 1:35:39[SPEAKER_02]: Just imagine.
- 1:35:40[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to mention something, but it's really off top again.
- 1:35:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's maybe for another day.
