[upbeat music] Right on, right on.
• 0:18
Welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 44. 44. I pushed the button. The button. The, the button, button. I, I pushed the button. The button has been pushed. I also have a new backup, uh- Red means go...
• 0:30
I have a new backup thing over here. [laughs] And we're on air. Just in case. So this is even better than the backup we had last week when- We gotta get a light up sign that says, "On air." When, uh- Oh, yeah.
• 0:39
[laughs] Right. [laughs] That's what I think- Put it out in the front window, people would recognize- Pretty sure that's why that thing's red. Yeah.
• 0:44
'Cause it's supposed to be outside the room to keep you from coming in when they're recording. Well, we want people to come in though. Instead of green is go. So- [laughs] Yeah...
• 0:52
maybe I can reprogram the light to be green when it's on, but then I would have remembered that- That it's red and, yeah... it's red and now I would be all backwards.
• 0:58
We'll go another three weeks without pressing a record. Right? Well, it's- Anyways... recording on the computer as well, so. Compu-tater. And a third backup is on- Yeah... our call-in studio call-in line. Where?
• 1:10
Interface. Redundancy. Which is what you all had to listen to last week, and apparently somebody complained. Uh-oh. I just hope that the content of the show was good, 'cause Russell was a great guest.
• 1:21
He was a great guest. Great guest. Very knowledgeable. Wish we could've heard his dulcet having been at college radio tones. Yes. [laughs] He'll be back. He'll be back. He'll be back. I think- We'll have...
• 1:31
And we'll have a PBR waiting for him. I think he really enjoyed being on the show. I think he had fun. He's... And we didn't punch each other for the first time since we've s- You know, it's been a long time.
• 1:40
Well, you got that going for you. Well, no, we didn't. We just forgot. [laughs] It was, it was talked about- Hm... in advance of his showing up. I know. I know. So, uh, Sven here.
• 1:52
Uh, JK's back over there from, uh, across the big pond. Hello. Hello. And, uh, of course- All festooned- Yeah... with my piracy piratry. [laughs] That goes with the new earring holes. I guess. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah.
• 2:06
Incidental wardrobe. Incidental pirating. [laughs] And Mr. Tony Burger, of course, across the table. Hey. Hello. Tony was Mr. Electric Bike, uh, yesterday. Oh, it's gonna be fun. Yeah. I'm excited to try it.
• 2:19
I wanna compare it to, to the bike we had from, that we loaned from Josh. Um, that's certainly a bigger wheel, not that that means anything at all. Uh, bigger hub I should say. The wheel's the same size.
• 2:30
[laughs] Yeah, I don't know how you pronounce it exactly. Crystallate, I think. Crystallite. Crystallite? It's a big thing. It's pretty- Crystallite? They call it the UFO.
• 2:37
It almost looks big enough like it would have batteries contained in it. Yeah, you would think, wouldn't you? Like the Copenhagen or something like that. But it- Gotta get one of those and go...
• 2:44
hopefully that means it's gonna have a lot of longevity and, and, uh- Well, there's no moving parts in there really. Yeah, not really... other than bearings, right? Right. So. And they're rebuildable.
• 2:52
And they're rebuildable. If that's a word. [laughs] Oh, yeah. Yeah, so. [laughs] We'll have pictures of that thing, what, next week maybe hopefully. I think so. I think so. Big project.
• 3:02
Hope we get the, uh, the contract to do those electric bikes. We should do an electric fat bike too. Mm-hmm. Even though we already have one. But we didn't do it. As long as we don't call it- [laughs]... the Baby Maker.
• 3:14
[laughs] Ta-da. That's the zinger of the week, folks. [laughs] It is. What's the timestamp on that one? [laughs] I don't know. I was waiting to see how long since the button got pushed. Uh, yeah, four minutes.
• 3:26
All righty. [laughs] So [laughs] so have you, um, got people now on the Baby Maker- Yes... fun train? Yes.
• 3:34
It's very entertaining that whenever I post now when I see this ridiculous Baby Maker bike on the Facebooks, that I have to comment, "Worst," period, "bike," period, "name," period, "ever."
• 3:47
And now people are following- Period... suit with, like, "Yeah, I wanna talk to who came up with that name." You know, or what's the story behind that? I know you are, but what am I? Yeah, exactly.
• 3:54
It's just, it's just... And now they've already moved on to another bike they're featuring.
• 3:58
Whoever this company is has a budget for marketing the size of Cleveland, and they're probably just importing crappy Chinese bikes. Not that... Oh, I'm, I'm, I'm sorry. I'm getting on my high horse. I'm done. Whoa.
• 4:09
[laughs] Getting off that high horse. There's an awful lot of interesting stuff going on, uh, Dahan's coming out with a couple of folding bikes. Those look beautiful. Should see them at, uh, CABDA in a couple weeks.
• 4:20
Nice. Um- If you can get off and go... if you, if you look at, um, the, uh, Grin page, they have a pretty great video of a guy who takes the Ticket. No.
• 4:34
It's the really small Bike Friday bike, and they put an e-assist, and then they have their, instead of, um, lithium ion batteries, they call them Lygo batteries- Lygo... which are pretty cool idea.
• 4:51
They're not cheap, but it's a neat idea for you to be able to travel with your electric bike. Yeah, I don't think they're that much more than a regular battery. They're like- You need a bunch. Well, you need, like, four.
• 4:59
Four. And they're 140 bucks a piece. That's not bad. So you're pretty much where you are anyway. What I, what I haven't watched the video on is can you charge them all together?
• 5:07
Uh- It'd be kind of a pain in the butt if you had to charge each one individually. No, I think you can charge them as a pack. As a pack. Yeah. That's what I thought. Pretty sure.
• 5:14
Um, the, yeah, the whole deal about them is they're 98 watt hours instead of 100- 100, which is the, yep... which is just below the threshold for what you can take on a commercial flight or something to that effect.
• 5:23
Yeah. I'm pretty sure it is a Ticket, the, the Bike Friday little tiny folder that comes in a suitcase then turns into a trailer. Right. And they rip it through Costa Rica. The guy does it for like a week in Costa Rica.
• 5:33
He's got some great video footage of him just, like, darting through [laughs] traffic and stuff 'cause it's all so slow there. Yeah. I, I like the fold up, that style bike. I do.
• 5:43
And an electrified one seems like it'd be something that would be- A great city bike... fun to have for the city. Yep.
• 5:48
I was also looking at, I don't know why they keep coming up in my news feeds or on, on the web, on the web when I'm looking at it, but mini-Velos. Hm. You know, sort of road- Those are really cool. [laughs]...
• 5:58
road bike looking things with- With small tires... 20-inch wheels on them. Yep. And there has, just seems to have been a spate of them. I don't know who's-... who I, who I keeps coming across.
• 6:08
I'll have to remember, uh, for next show, but- I, I saw one in real life... they, I, I, I wanna build one up 'cause they look so cool. I saw one in real li- real life, and it r- literally blew my doors.
• 6:16
I'm like, "What is this? This is so cool." Can you make one with, like, a 20-inch fat bike wheel? Why not? MiniVelo Fat- Mini-... version. Fat MiniVelo. Fat MiniVelo. I know. They're, they're pretty cool.
• 6:29
So, uh, what hap- we got snow. Did we get snow since last time? Uh, we got snow since last time. We got snow since last time. Yeah. We got buried, well, six- With, like, we don't-... six, seven inches. I went- Heavy...
• 6:42
I went out to on, uh, Sunday and Tuesday, I went to Pleasant Valley and rode the groomed trails. How are they? They're good. They're, they're really good. They're about, I'm gonna say 18 inches wide maybe.
• 6:53
They're, they're using the snow dog groomer, which they're also doing at, uh, Minooka Park.
• 6:58
But, um, Grafton is not that far, and I had to go out to the car dealer out that way anyway to get some maintenance done on the vehicle.
• 7:05
So I said, "Well, since I was already there on Sunday and I know it's good, I'm gonna bring my bike again." [laughs] Nice. Nice. Yeah.
• 7:11
Uh, how is that, when it's groomed like that, how much different is it riding on, you know, riding fat? Do you lower your pressure less? Um, they were- Or increase it more...
• 7:19
at that trail they're recommending five pounds. Um, that's wh- about what I went with, give or take. I do the hand test. Yeah. And if you went off the edge of the trail, you didn't go further, so.
• 7:29
[laughs] Uh, or you did, but you, you might be squirming around a little bit. Yeah. So, um, I think they probably got eight inches, and the grooming makes it very, very rideable. Nice. It was really cool.
• 7:40
And I don't know, there's probably five miles of trails out there, four, about four and a half. It's not very long. Yeah. But it's, it is, they are mountain bike trails in the summer too, so. Nice. Very cool. JK. Ahoy.
• 7:55
Would you like to do a report? Have you studied in, in Europe for your- [laughs]... for your [laughs] return on the radio? I did not have time. It, it was just whirlwind.
• 8:06
I mean, there was like one night, I think, where I actually just kinda kicked back and relaxed, listened to some jazz. Otherwise you were sick. It was nice. I love It was just- I love not being home...
• 8:17
it was like going from one place to the other place, or preparing to go to someplace else, and- Yeah, you were in- It was-... Spain? Were you in Spain when you called in last week? Yes, in Seville. Seville.
• 8:29
And that was a shit show. I, it, it must've been late because- Yeah, it was-... there was, there was some people yelling in the background. Yeah. I had to do a little bit of- It was about 2:00 in the morning...
• 8:36
cutting out people from blathering- Yeah... too much. [laughs] Yeah, it was like about 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning, and wow, yeah. And that was the night of mayhem. You guys- Almost got-...
• 8:47
couldn't find your Airbnb or something? Yeah, got kicked out of it. Or not, well, [laughs] not really.
• 8:52
Like, the, we missed the check-in time, but we couldn't contact the guy to let him know we'll be late, and he ended up leaving the keys at a restaurant around the corner- Oh, nice... and all is well.
• 9:03
But I mean, just to try to figure that out, we like, you know, wrangled a local and had him call and talk to him, so worked that out. You found a local that spoke English? Yeah. Good for you. Yeah, it worked out well.
• 9:15
That's not easy to do. Yeah, and walked us and l- located our Airbnb. Nice. All that stuff. Uh, offered him a little cash 'cause he was being, you know, lifesaver shit. Yeah. "Oh, my God, I'm so insulted.
• 9:28
Okay, let's take you out for a beer" and ended up getting him shitfaced. [laughs] Nice. It was like, yeah. Did you... I, I was, it was a little hard to understand a couple things with the half a world away thing. Yeah.
• 9:37
Yeah. But I don't know, did you say you were at a Dunkin' Donuts? Yeah, that's where we got, we found the dude. Okay, okay. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. Nice.
• 9:43
I hit a Dirty Ron in, uh, Lisbon just because it was the only thing open in this food court. [laughs] I'm like, "Okay." Is that a McDonald's? "When things are dim." Yeah. Okay. I didn't know that. Dirty Rons. Dirty Rons.
• 9:53
Oh, man. Yeah. But yeah, it was just whirlwind. It was like 12 hours or... The flight [laughs] was, uh, to London, hung out there for 12 hours. But enough. Yeah, totally. That's enough. That's enough London I need. Yep.
• 10:10
You know, whatever. Then down to Lisbon, couple days there. Bus, 12-hour bus ride to Algeciras. Ooh. And then a little mini bus ride to Tarifa, a ferry across to Morocco, Tangier for a couple days,
• 10:26
ferry on back, go up to Seville a couple or one day. The barber of Seville. Yeah, exactly. Why don't we say Seville? I don't know. I mean, okay, here I'll say Seville and Lisbon- There it is, Seville...
• 10:39
but it's Lisboa and Seville and- Oh... things of that nature... I guess it's their, it's their city. Tangier. They can say it however the hell they want. Tangiers, Tan- Tanger,
• 10:49
you know, and all these little quirky things. And then back to L- Lisbon for another day, and then back here. What was, what was your favorite drink? Oh, it was a... Well, I have it.
• 11:02
I actually just took a picture of the damn drink menu. I need to go back. It was at The George, and that's actually where this beer- There, I guess we might as well- Top, top of the hill...
• 11:14
we probably tie right into that. [bell ringing] Tie-in, tie-in. Tie-in. Tie-in. Top of the hill. Tie-in. Top, top of the hill, folks. And yes, top of the [laughs] fucking hill. [laughs] Oh, my God.
• 11:23
Yeah, hills everywhere. Yeah, it's not flat there. No, no. Seville, yes. N- and it was such a nice break. [laughs] It's like, wow, there's nothing going on. But yes, at The George in Lisbon,
• 11:37
I was greeted to a very cool looking tapper that said BrewDog Punk IPA, and I'm like, "You know, I'm just gonna have to- I, the-... I'm gonna have to try that"... the name alone says drink me. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
• 11:48
Yeah, it probably does. Like, I'm there. I didn't really need, I, I, I really wasn't in the mood for a beer, but, eh, you got me. The marketing got me. Hey, wait, wait. I, I'm having a hard time.
• 11:58
You're not in the mood for a beer? What does that feel like? 'Cause that's never been me. I don't know. [laughs] That, that has never happened. That's never happened.
• 12:05
I, I wa- I was cr- I wake up in the morning like that... I was kinda crushing a, I was kinda crushing a, like a wine diet- Eh, eh... pretty much A wine/occasional mixed drink type thing So the...
• 12:16
You found this in Lisbon? Yes, at The George, a British pub and restaurant in the zone. Which is kinda weird because- What is that? That's weird... people are... That's somebody thumping in the, in the place next door.
• 12:31
Oh, I thought that was my upstairs neighbors. [laughs] Oh. Oh, no. So I'm like, "Really, Brooklyn?" So the... So this is actually from here, though. Yes. I... Yeah. You wanna talk... Yeah, the...
• 12:42
And yeah, this beer just doing like a whirlwind themselves. So you were drinking a, a domestic beer imported into Lisbon? Yes. So it's actually made in Ohio, folks. Yeah.
• 12:54
And apparently the fact that it can get all the way over there means it must be somewhat available. Yeah. It started off in Scotland- Scotland... and then they, I guess, moved to Ohio [laughs] Okay...
• 13:04
and started brewing there and distributing from there. And I... Yeah. And then I stopped in at, over at, uh- Old Otto's... Old Otto's. Well, it's because it's from Canal Winchester, Ohio.
• 13:16
I mean, that's just like Scotland. [laughs] So th- it says it's a- Sure... it's a postmodern classic India pale ale, but they also somewhere else were calling it an English- Yeah... so it's-...
• 13:26
modern British style IPA was- Okay... on the box It's quintessential empire with an anarchist twist. Yeah. [laughs] Quintessential? Quintessential. It's their flagship beer. It is tasty, folks. It's not bad at all.
• 13:39
  I, I would highly... If you see this in the stores, I... It's definitely worth- It's a blue... getting a six-pack. It's got a dog. It's blue. It's got a dog. It's Brewdog. Yeah.
• 13:46
It's over, uh, over at Otto's here on- Otto's I got, I got- Wanna get you blacko... five, 5.6%- Exactly... on the old, uh, ABV level there. Who is it? Pick up. [laughs] Just got out of the shower.
• 14:04
[laughs] I just have to wee-wee. I'm- [laughs] It's the plumber. I've come to- Come to fix the sink... fix the sink. That's why they call me. I'm professional.
• 14:12
[laughs] I'm coming with the six-pack Abby Sounds like the beginning of a porn flick... of Def Jam. Exactly. I'm thinking of Carl Hungus- Ah... and Phil Lapowski. [laughs] Oh, yeah, Carl Hungus. Oh, yeah.
• 14:25
I gotta find that damn drink, but it was like a Jameson... It was like a Jameson lemonade and some other stuff in there. It was really good. It was refreshing? It was refreshing and potent. Nice. Nice. Nice.
• 14:37
Made friendly with a couple of the bartenders. It worked out nicely. Yeah. And like, "All right. Here, here, grease the wheels." Yeah. Man, you can smoke indoors everywhere. Yeah, yeah. It's insanity. Yeah.
• 14:46
How many expats did you run into over there? Mm, personally, I don't think any. Huh. I- I heard there's like- I kind of kept my fool mouth shut a lot of the- I, I forget what the number is.
• 14:57
9 or 11 million Americans live outside- Oh... of 'Merica. Uh- Okay... the kids ran into a... Well, they went clubbing and crap like that. Right. So they ran into like a shitload from Minnesota and- Yeah...
• 15:08
Jersey and Austin, Texas. I, uh, I like that I saw your picture. I think you were in Lisbon still, and you had your River West 24- Ah, yes... pink T-shirt on. Yeah, the I Love Bijou.
• 15:19
[laughs] And then like literally like the next feed in, in the Facebooks for me is Gil in Africa where he finds someone- Oh, yeah... wearing a freaking David Gruber shirt. That was brilliant. [laughs] I know.
• 15:30
I saw that too. That was- So yeah. I mean, everybody, every s- every major city in America has a version of David Gruber. Oh, yeah, absolutely. But his name's not David Gruber in Vegas. Yeah.
• 15:40
I forget what it is, but it's- Really, he's-... anybody that's the one call- It's him... that's all. [laughs] Ev- almost every city. I've seen billboards all over with that on it. Yeah.
• 15:49
So they have the same basic- Have you seen him in real life ever? Maybe they have the same basic ad agency. Yeah, he's a scrawny little guy. He's tall and- Yeah... really skinny and- Yeah... he looks like Skeletor.
• 15:58
Yeah, yeah. It's like, good God, dude. I saw him at... Y- you know what? You wanna know- Well, he's a lawyer, folks- Okay, I had-...
• 16:04
so I thought he looked like a weasel more, but- I know we've talked about how one of the greatest restaurants in all of Greater Milwaukee, maybe beyond, is of course The Swinging Door. Aha.
• 16:16
I just wanna let you know, I still had a fabulous meal, and I was next to David Gruber. Oh, very good. Did you say hi, Dave? Hell no, I didn't. [laughs] But yeah- Luigi Omato, guest host...
• 16:27
yeah, so yeah, Gil's an- it's, so Gil's another buddy of ours that was in Senegal at the same time JK was in, um, uh, you know, over there. Oh, right.
• 16:34
And I just thought, well, for, from Morocco, it's only about 1,500 kilometers to Senegal- [laughs]... so you could just go visit Gil. Right. [laughs] You know, I, 'cause I had a look- It would take like a day...
• 16:42
well, I looked at the map to make sure I knew where it was, and Senegal's like the, the westernmost point on the continent.
• 16:49
And it just seemed like it would be a great place to go fat biking because I saw lots of beaches there. Ah.
• 16:56
And if you've got Gil's, uh, dad and his business partner over there goofing around, maybe, you know, they'll hook us up or something. Right on, right on. Yeah.
• 17:03
Anybody from Senegal, let us know what fat bikes are like over there. Yeah, or if we need to sell you one. Yeah. I don't know about shipping out of- We'll ship... out of the continent.
• 17:12
I'm not shipping off this continent. [laughs] Ah, I found the drink. Unless I'm going over there with it to- There you go... deliver it by hand. See? Yeah. [laughs] Now you're cooking. It's
• 17:21
George Goes Irish on Lemonade is the name of it. [laughs] Okay. I know. What is, what is going Irish on something actually mean? I, I don't know. Is it like whooping its ass or- I don't know, but- Puking?...
• 17:31
it made me laugh. Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition, orange liqueur, uh, lemon juice, homemade lemon lime soda, and a little bit of beer. So that sounds pretty- So the, the Caskmates is a, is a ver- It's a version of a-...
• 17:46
still of a whiskey? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's like, yeah, they- That sounds delicious actually... they, they, yeah. It- I'm not a big Jamo guy, but that, I'd, I'd try that. No, I can't. The Jam- I don't know.
• 17:55
I'm not a Jamo guy. That's what it looked like. Well, something's happened to Jameson's- Well, it looks pretty... if you ask me. It's just not what it used to be. That's all. Right, right.
• 18:01
Like many, many good, uh, whiskeys that have become popular, it's not what it used to be. Oh, well, if it ain't broke- So I just default to Old Crow. That's all. [laughs]... don't fix it.
• 18:10
That used to be- I like Old Crow. There's nothing wrong with Old Crow. At this point, anytime I see it somewhere I, uh, the temptation is there For The Crow? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's nostalgia.
• 18:22
Well, our local, uh, pubbery used to have it for a buck a, buck a shot. Oh my God. That was great. And- Now it's two bucks. Oh, geez. Yeah. You're gonna go broke on that. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, that's, you know- Also-...
• 18:33
you can get a Pabst tall boy most places... I'm not drinking whiskey for this [laughs] week at least. Oh, there you go. I'm, I'm on the only, beer only plan for a little while. Ah. I've been on that for a long time.
• 18:41
Yeah. We're, you know, whiskey and me [laughs] makes for a bad day after. [laughs] 'Cause I like it so much. Yeah, you gotta... It's- It's my sweet tooth... it, it tastes like mommy's kisses. Yeah. Yeah. I know.
• 18:55
When I was picking up this beer, I'm staring- I just want a whiskey... I'm staring at all those like remainder of those gift set things that are on sale and whatever, and I'm like, "All right.
• 19:04
Let me just take a look at these, and if there is a good whiskey in here, I m- m- m- m- m- I'll get the little, you know, souvenir glassware or whatever," just as an excuse to [laughs] Right. Right...
• 19:16
to make another Singapore sling. I got an email today to the, uh, Everyday Cycles email, store email address. I, I, I think I'm being stalked by your niece. Nice. Yeah.
• 19:27
Jody wants to be, uh, what, uh, con- connect on Alignable, which I'm not really totally, um, familiar with yet. Me neither. I- it's sort of like a LinkedIn for businesses though, I think- Oh... more than for individuals.
• 19:40
It's like, "Oh, you're a bike shop and you're my friend on Alignable? I think I'll refer people to you because we're buddies on Alignable." Oh.
• 19:48
I, uh, Roadrunner Bags was the first one that got me on it, and I'm just not sure how useful it is yet, so. Oh. If anybody knows anything about Alignable, let me know.
• 19:55
And Jody- Jody's obviously, she's not on any other social media... stalking me. Stalking me... she's- I'm telling you what... she, she's not social. Yeah.
• 20:02
It must be- But she did drag me to Oscar's on Sunday, and let me tell you, it's well worth the drag.
• 20:07
[laughs] I think I left my sunglasses there, and it might've been a, you know, a reason for me just to have to go back and Darn it... get another pair. Exactly. "Hey, you got my sunglasses? I'll be back." Yeah.
• 20:15
You might just- They had a really good IPA there, and I'm not gonna remember the name. It was a Deschutes, and it was really good, like Flag Down or- Hmm... it was- I have had something that- Yeah, he's-...
• 20:27
recently of Deschutes that was really good. It was very, very fruity and- Freshly Squeezed I think was the one... Fresh Squeezed is a great one too. Okay. Yes. Yeah.
• 20:34
So yeah, he's got like, I don't know, 35 or 38 taps in there now or something. Oh my God, it's... Yeah. It was, it was... And you know, of course.
• 20:43
And she takes her boyfriend for the first time to a Burger Giant, and what does he do? He orders the wings. [sighs] What a boob. Yeah, a Canadian boob. But you know what?
• 20:54
He does, they do have killer wings too, [laughs] so I totally understand. It's true. They make good stuff. Yeah. They, you know, anything.
• 21:00
They're, they're another great restaurant in Milwaukee with great staff, and Oscar's a great dude all the way around. Good stuff. Good stuff. Good stuff. Good stuff.
• 21:09
Speaking of good stuff, lots of events this next weekend or two- Yeah, coming up... or five. Kind of like, like the next, I don't know, five week, lots of stuff.
• 21:15
This is this, the, the height of the fat bike season right now. Yeah. You know it's a fad, right? Fat bikes. Fad. [laughs] Total fad.
• 21:21
[laughs] I wonder if it's a- So the one that's on Saturday in Madison, Legs and Liver Giver, that one's got my attention. Is that Burger's event? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Your brother. No relation.
• 21:31
[laughs] [laughs] That was quick. Uh, it's got my attention. Um, more so the, uh, Frosty Hog here in Milwaukee on Sunday- Yeah... 'cause it's a nice day, 26th. Well, if you go to Legs and Liver Giver,
• 21:44
let me know 'cause then Donna can get me that belt drive bike I gave her back, and you can bring that back for me. That Trek? Yeah. The District? The Soho. Soho. Prototype. Proto... Why does she have it?
• 21:56
I sold it to her, and she never paid me. Ah. Donna. Donna, if you're listening to me- Oh, wait. How does it... Oh, Donna. Yeah. Oh, Donna. [laughs] Oh, Donna. Yeah. Isn't that Richie Valens?
• 22:10
So, uh, yeah, I think it is, right? And I gave it to her with studded tires-... Oh, Sophie...
• 22:13
and it doesn't have the studs on it anymore, which I'm okay with 'cause I think it'll be fun, and I can always get studded tires. So is, uh, is Jody's boyfriend from Manitoba, eh? No, he's from, um, uh, Quebec. Ah.
• 22:24
So he- Well, if he was from Manitoba, he could go to the Frozen Fat Fondo Fest there and- He's a roadie... on the 25th. He, he- You know who's in Quebec is RSD, though. Oh, yeah? True.
• 22:34
They make some kickass bikes out of there. Sure do. Mm-hmm. Yeah, he's a roadie that did the, uh, race across Wisconsin, ride across Wisconsin in one day, though, the 225. Ugh. That's pretty kickass. One of those guys?
• 22:47
And he's like 58 years old. Wow. I don't know if I could go nonstop. I wouldn't want to. I'm pretty sure I couldn't, and because there... Uh, you- Well, 'cause someone's gonna eventually say beer...
• 22:56
right, you're gonna miss all the bars on the way- Right... across the state. Yeah. I mean, there, no shortage- Right... of bars in this state, and why not stop at at least a few of them on your bike ride? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 23:08
So and then- What else is going on? Yeah... I don't know, later, this, so not this week, but the 1st of February is the Knickerbocker Fat Bike ride in Lake Mills, which is- It's also Mitten Fest...
• 23:18
hosted by The Hub Cafe and Pub. Hmm? Ooh, that's good. Yeah. But it's also Mitten Fest. Mitten Fest. Yeah. Do tell. Mitten Fest- Yeah... um, in the Bay Views area. With mittens?
• 23:29
It's, uh, a number of local bands as well as a, uh, there's food trucks and then, uh, also some donations for Hunger Task Force and- I've, I've seen- Uh-... kittens named Mittens before. Yeah. Kittens. When is that?
• 23:43
With Mittens. February 1st. Okay. Gotta keep an eye on the weather. And then the- Yeah... the Brew District Festival is the 15th of February,
• 23:53
which is a new event that's gonna be outside Best Place, which should be a go-to because there's gonna be some great bands playing there. Should be a go-to. Is it right on the street there? I believe so.
• 24:01
Oh, that'd be sweet. Yeah. Uh- It's like four bars are gonna have live music, and they're all within like three blocks of each other, so. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. And the Taproom's, yeah.
• 24:09
Well, that's up in that Pabst Taproom. Yeah, gotta have a show there. Got to have the Captain Pabst again.
• 24:15
Well, a- and that's the, yeah- For those of you that aren't from Milwaukee listening to us, just look up Best Place and enlarge the map and just see how gorgeous that area is for- The Brewery District...
• 24:22
it, it's just been there since 1848- Yeah. It's a-... when Captain Frederick Pabst built the building... a main reason to go to that area is that- Absolutely...
• 24:30
that bar along- And the Taproom is being, uh, re, uh, rebranded Oh, is it- Captain Pabst... Sail Loft or something? No Not Sail Loft, but something like Sea Biscuit or something. Ah. I can't remember the name.
• 24:42
It- These are all, uh, Kentucky Derby contender names. [laughs] Yeah, I was gonna say. [laughs] There are a lot of horse names. Damn, dude. I, I know. I went down a little rabbit hole there. Yeah.
• 24:50
Uh, k- uh, later in the month, there's stuff like the Lake McBride Fat Tire Classic in Iowa, the 15th. Uh, Bike Across the Bay in Washburn. Oh. I put, uh, Blizzaks on the van this week, so- Nice...
• 25:03
if I do go up, way up there and there's a ton of snow, I got the- [laughs]... I got the right tires on the vehicle for the job. Nice. It- it's a lot like putting, uh, studs on your fat bike almost.
• 25:13
People, people that don't, that, that believe in an all-season radial are people I don't really wanna talk to. I, well, I... So I had brand new-ish all season tires on there, 'cause I like them in the rain.
• 25:24
Yeah, they're fine. And, uh, night and day difference, honestly. Soon as it gets icy and snowy- Yeah... yeah, they're- I mean. My... Even our little,
• 25:32
forgive me, Molly, Shitbox XB, um, the difference with all seasons versus s- like a really nice... I have like... I'm sorry, I'm, I'm, I'm an elitist. I have Hakka Peliita RSIs on it right now.
• 25:43
And who wouldn't have Hakka Peliitas- You know?... if they could find them- Yeah... and get them in a size that fits your van? Yeah. Well, I j- you just need 13-inch wheels. [laughs] Like, I mean- Yeah.
• 25:50
The, I, my rotors wouldn't even clear- [laughs] I know, I know... the 13-inch rotors. [laughs] I barely do. But boy, I think climbs, like, it- it's amazing.
• 25:57
That's where I, we're gonna digress one more time 'cause we're talking about snow tires, but a commercial that's driving me nuts right now is the Toyota commercial saying that it's better at climbing a hill than the Honda CR-V.
• 26:06
And I'm like, it's not what's getting you up that hill, man, it's the tires. Maybe it's got some sort of intelligent AI that's out there with little- Spikeys and shit...
• 26:14
like little people with shovels in front of the car and throwing traction under the tires or something. Yeah, I, I don't know. I s- every time I see a commercial, I cringe. Speaking of AI, I need another beer.
• 26:24
[gasps] I, I, AI would like another beer too. I- The Taproom is gonna be rebranded as Captain Pabst's Pilot House- There you go... and launch as a new IPA. Yeah. That's... Oh, so that's why they're...
• 26:36
Yeah, they to- Well, I sent Greg the message last week. They're coming out with an IPA. Sea Bird IPA. Sea Bird. I was at that tap house maybe. Oh, you were there. Sea Biscuit, Sea Bird. Yeah. Taproom. Sea Burger.
• 26:47
[laughs] I guess I, I thought I heard- It's all coming back to me, baby... wait. Wait, Greg, was Cap- was Captain Fred actually on a boat at some point? Yeah. Is that why he's a captain? Yeah.
• 26:56
And I guess he had some issue when he landed on the shores of Whitefish Bay and said- That's why he's here, huh?... said, "Screw this seafaring shit, I'm gonna open a brewery." Oh. So- So did you, uh-...
• 27:10
I think that's, that's the m- They w- yeah, they- That's the JK cliff notes version.
• 27:13
[laughs] They w- they, they were responsible in part for making Whitefish Bay a, like, amusement park day trip kinda thing from, you know, from- From downtown... I guess back in the 1848s.
• 27:24
Before bicycles and whatnot, it would take a half a day to get up there and- By horse... right, by horse- Yeah... and/or buggy and/or- Did- Well, this was a good- JK, did you, uh, by chance listen to Squid today?
• 27:34
Part of it. Did I understand that Wahlburgers is gonna have a WMSC burger, and that's why Mark Wahlberg is doing a, a plug for WMSC right now on the, on the, you know? I didn't catch that part.
• 27:48
I- WMSC.org is the best radio station- Best station... and/or website to listen to said station on- Yes... in the entire history of the world. Yes. Yes. Especially, especially- And if they get a Wahlburger...
• 27:59
noon to 3:00 Thursdays, the Von Munn's Vinyl Variety. Indeed. Quite possibly the greatest three hours of music every week ever. That was, uh, I had that shirt overseas as well. Yep. And our little guide in Seville,
• 28:14
he loved, uh... He had a fascination with serial killers and cannibal killers and being fr- you know, "Hey"- That'd be a great band. Is that a band?... "Hey, we got Zomba and Keen."
• 28:23
So we had a lot to talk about, and I had the, uh, the T-shirt, the glow in the dark- Von Munn, yep... fan club one. Yep, yep. So he was a little bit taken b- aback by it. [laughs] Did you swap shirts with him? No.
• 28:36
[laughs] No, but he just kept saying, "Just please do not eat me." [laughs] It was just awesome. The Cannibal Killers, it's probably a bad name already, right? I'm sure it is. If it's not- It's gotta be...
• 28:44
it certainly should be. I gotta find that T-shirt or that sweatshirt I had. It was with the Wisconsin silhouette, Wisconsin, home of cap- I've seen you wear it... or canni- cannibal- On more than one occasion...
• 28:53
yeah, Cannibal Killers from the Happy Days. Yeah. It's like, uh. [laughs] Well, somebody stole it at some point. Probably ought to mention that, uh, we have a call-in number if people wanna call in at some point.
• 29:03
Oh, ah, yes. 717-727-2453. 727. That spells bike. Yeah. Bike. We like bikes. Bikes are things. Yeah. And if you call us on that line, we'll actually talk about bikes too, unless- Yeah...
• 29:16
you wanna talk about something else, I don't care. We can talk whatever you wanna talk about, but you know. Right? We- Letter Kenny... we're, we're here for your half hour or longer every week. Every time we s- uh,
• 29:24
I was hearing Sleater Kinney the whole time. Sleater Kinney, Letter Kenny. [laughs] I'm like, wait, what? I'll talk about either one of those. Yeah, yeah. I was just like- It's great...
• 29:29
I'm like, what, uh- They Might Be Giants coming up soon. Kind of stoked. Stoked. Speaking of WMSC, I won tickets to see Gold's CD release party. Ah. Record release party. That's gonna be a fun one.
• 29:39
They're a Milwaukee band, right? Where's that? They're a Milwaukee band. But now they- Turner Turner. Speaking of, we're, now we're on that subject.
• 29:45
I mean, also, if you're in Milwaukee and you wanna see the, the, one of the best venues for a live show, Turner Hall's got some of the best acoustics you'll ever see, hear.
• 29:54
[laughs] Can't see acoustics, but you can hear 'em. You can't see 'em. Can't see 'em. They're invisible. Unless there's so much, uh, smoke in the air there from the ganja. Yeah, that could happen. That could happen.
• 30:04
Must be a lot of people in there with glaucoma. I'm certain that's what it is. Coming up from Illinois. So CABDA, February 12th and 13th. Where dat? That's, uh, that's our, uh, show. Our- In Chicago?... dealer show.
• 30:18
Yeah, it's in out- It's in Chicago, but on the outskirts. So what is the 12th and 13th? It's probably in the middle of the week sometime. It probably is. 12, 13? Yeah, 'cause it's- Wednesday, Thursday... yeah.
• 30:28
Wednesday, Thursday. We should go down there on Thursday. This is February you're talking about, right? February, yeah. Right.
• 30:33
Then we'll have stuff to talk about because that's kind of the new Interbike I'll go there with you. Just remind me so I take off. Yeah, I'll send you a link to make sure you're registered. Yeah. Gotta be registered.
• 30:44
Love to walk around. It's not a public show. Oh, [laughs] well that's even better. We're, we're more important than- Yeah... the public at that particular show. Moment in time. Not, not any other time, but that time.
• 30:55
Is it on the north side of Chicago so it's even easier? You know what? That's a good question. It used to be at Pheasant Run, but I don't think it's there anymore, so. Cool. We shall see what we shall see.
• 31:05
What does this thing say? Let me see. Free registration, over 500 brands, blah, blah, blah. Does not say. They had their West Coast version just a few, uh, last weekend maybe, in San Diego.
• 31:19
The fastest growing bike show- San Diego... in North America. Yeah, well it's, I think the only all bicycle... Well, you got NAHBS, the hand-built bike show- Yeah...
• 31:28
but that's a little different animal than this which is mostly for dealers who- S- you know, this is-...
• 31:33
pawn their wares off on our unsuspecting- This is clearly a fad too, 'cause you'll notice they have a fat bike in the picture. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That's nice. Clearly a fad. Ooh. It's probably from 10 years ago.
• 31:41
Free keynote breakfast. All right then. Yeah. And just speaking of Illinois, Northern Illinois, at the end of February, David Allen Co. in Libertyville at the Impact Field Room. Oh.
• 31:57
That might have to be- Yeah, that could be a good show. David Allen Co.'s pretty aight. I'm telling you. [laughs] Monkey David wine. [laughs] David every time. [laughs] Yeah, Monkey David wine. Rawr.
• 32:08
[laughs] Well, that beautiful listener was JK. All right. General admission, 30 bucks. Anybody got final- 30 bucks... final thoughts? Final thoughts? [sighs] Don't name your bike Baby Maker.
• 32:20
[laughs] Jesus Christ, what are you thinking? [laughs] How drunk are you to finally decide that you wanna name your bike Baby Maker? Right on.
• 32:28
[laughs] Hey, whether it's snowed or it hasn't where you are, you should probably go ride your bike too. Yeah. It's gonna snow again for five days here. You should be happy you're riding with us. Woo, snow. Snow.
• 32:38
One of these days I could get back on my bike. [laughs] You'll be fine. [laughs] One at a time. I, I got a little bicep issue. Oh, that's still- So... it's still, uh- Yeah... paining you? And my thumbs, and my thumb.
• 32:50
That's- Your, your yellow thumb from- Yeah, my shawarma thumb Your shawarma thumb. Yeah, but- In case you didn't know, listeners, shawarma and- [laughs]... Anaphry smell a lot alike when they're on JK's thumb.
• 32:59
And, and it's the mixture of turmeric and, and shawarma. Yeah, I think so. Ally! Smells kind of like Anaphry's. He smelled my thumb. [laughs] All right. All right. Next time, peoples. Later.
• 33:12
[upbeat music] Push the green button.
• 33:19
