- 0:22Please note that listener discretion is advised.
- 0:27Back in the day, Film stuntman Colt Seavers moonlit as a bounty
- 0:32hunter when movie work was slow.
- 0:34He chased bad guys and returned them to Los Angeles.
- 0:37But today, he's a stuntman fresh off an almost career ending accident.
- 0:41He has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy, and try
- 0:44to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job.
- 0:47What could possibly go right?
- 0:50Yeah.
- 0:52Ladies and gentlemen, I'm Steve.
- 0:53And I'm Izzy.
- 0:54And this is Everything I Learned From Movies.
- 0:57And tonight.
- 0:57Oh, tonight.
- 0:59Ah, besides my sexy, sexy voice.
- 1:02Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03We are talking about 2024s.
- 1:07Oh, but we are not alone for this one, babe.
- 1:09Is it because I was made for loving you, baby?
- 1:11I was made for loving you, baby!
- 1:16So disappointed that was the one song throughout this movie.
- 1:19But now we have with us, from the Grand Touring Motorsports Brake Fix
- 1:22Podcast Network, Oh my gosh, we have Eric, Tanya, Brad and Jessica, welcome.
- 1:28Wow, wow, wow.
- 1:31Hey, thanks for having us back.
- 1:33Of course.
- 1:34Sweet.
- 1:34Thanks for having us back.
- 1:35Yeah.
- 1:36Wait, we're doing a collabo here.
- 1:38I know.
- 1:38And what's fun about this one is we came to you and said,
- 1:41had you seen the Fall guy yet?
- 1:43And I was pretty shocked when you said no.
- 1:45We were waiting for it to hit Peacock . Yeah.
- 1:46We were waiting for it to go on the pack.
- 1:49Actually, no, we, we bought it the day it hit screaming for 20 bucks.
- 1:53We're like sight unseen because we're like, how could we
- 1:55possibly not like this movie?
- 1:57And then we watched it and then we were like, Oh my gosh, this reminds
- 2:00me of a movie we talked about.
- 2:02Oh, it reminded us of a movie too.
- 2:05Oh, look who just showed up.
- 2:06Oh, Matt.
- 2:07Mike is here.
- 2:09That's great.
- 2:10Everybody have a wonderful night.
- 2:11This was a fantastic podcast.
- 2:13We'll see you all next time.
- 2:15It's good that mountain Mike, I mean, mountain man Dan showed up
- 2:18because this is really about him.
- 2:20This is square bodies at their finest.
- 2:23This is revenge for the stunt man review we did with you guys.
- 2:26Is doing the proper stunt guy movie with action scenes
- 2:30and car chases and cool shit.
- 2:32And doing drugs till you see unicorns.
- 2:34That's the fall guy.
- 2:35Wait.
- 2:38So let's get into it.
- 2:39Yeah, well before we get too deep into it, I don't know about
- 2:42you guys, I'm a little thirsty.
- 2:43I'm still sober, so let's continue that.
- 2:47Because I'm definitely not coming down with something here.
- 2:50Steve is definitely not sick, you guys, definitely not.
- 2:53Definitely not.
- 2:54We have from Guinness there, non alcoholic droth.
- 2:57Less than 0.
- 2:585 percent alcohol by volume.
- 3:00I'm going to talk.
- 3:02Get it on the mic, babe.
- 3:04Sorry.
- 3:04It's a little bit of a bottle bomb.
- 3:08Have you guys seen the Simpsons when, uh, Bart plays the, uh, the
- 3:12beer and the beer and the, uh, cake shaker and gives it to Homer.
- 3:16That's kind of what may have just happened.
- 3:18Oh my God.
- 3:19I can tell you one thing.
- 3:20It's lukewarm.
- 3:23Can't quite get any tasting notes.
- 3:25So it's a proper British beer.
- 3:27It's Lukewarm.
- 3:28We're having it at room temperature.
- 3:29Yeah.
- 3:30Steve is covered in it head to toe.
- 3:31Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 3:33The dog is pretending like he's not trying to not notice.
- 3:35We'll just hear Steve soon.
- 3:36No grundling, no grundling!
- 3:38Uh, yeah, good and foamy.
- 3:39Chestnut color.
- 3:40Mmm, smells like a beer.
- 3:42Honestly, it smells like Guinness.
- 3:43The toasty notes, you get a little bit of coffee on the nose.
- 3:47Steve's got in for the sip.
- 3:48Mm.
- 3:48Yeah.
- 3:48Are you chasing it with some Robitussin, some Delsin?
- 3:53Oh, no, no.
- 3:54I had, uh, some vitamin C earlier.
- 3:56I've been drinking all sorts of Gatorade and crap all day.
- 3:59He's gonna go for the hard stuff.
- 4:00The NyQuil Double Z.
- 4:02Hot toddy.
- 4:04Anti congestant, uh, when we're done here.
- 4:06Yeah.
- 4:06Hot toddy.
- 4:07Little Vicks Vapor Rub.
- 4:09I won't lie, you guys.
- 4:10If this was just poured and served to me, I could be fooled.
- 4:14Yeah.
- 4:14Wow.
- 4:15Tastes like a Guinness.
- 4:15Like a Guinness.
- 4:16Yeah.
- 4:17And I'm not saying it tastes like all skunky and three years old in
- 4:20the can, like 90 percent of the Guinnesses you get in the U S.
- 4:23No, this actually tastes kind of like a fresh Guinness.
- 4:25Wow.
- 4:26Yeah.
- 4:27Not bad at all.
- 4:27Yeah.
- 4:28So yeah, check it out.
- 4:30This year, the year of our podcast, 2024.
- 4:33I've been told three or four times by non alcoholic beers that I
- 4:37couldn't have told the difference.
- 4:39And I'm a beer judge.
- 4:40They're starting to figure it out.
- 4:41They are.
- 4:43I highly recommend if you can find it, Athletic Non Alcoholic Beer.
- 4:46We had a friend drop like 30 bucks and then was pissed he wasn't drunk.
- 4:50Is that like caffeinated water?
- 4:52No, Athletic is a non alcoholic beer brand.
- 4:54Oh, I see.
- 4:55I've seen it, I believe.
- 4:56Honestly, it's worth a try.
- 4:57Yeah, I can get it at Wegmans.
- 4:59Wegmans.
- 4:59That's where I've seen it.
- 5:02Well, speaking of doing it right, 2024 is the fall guy from director
- 5:09David Leach, a legendary stuntman coordinator for movies like basketball
- 5:14blade fight club, the Mexican Troy, Mr.
- 5:17And Mrs.
- 5:17Smith, the Buffy series replicant, of course, the Jean Claude Van
- 5:21Damme, where there's two of them.
- 5:22Wait, which Jean Claude Van Damme, where there's two of them.
- 5:25Yeah, exactly.
- 5:26The one where it's the clone that's trying to hunt down the serial killer one.
- 5:30Which one?
- 5:32The score, Bangkok Dangerous Sex Men, Origins, Wolverine, Ninja Assassin, The
- 5:36Mechanic, and then he got the directing bug with a little movie called John Wick.
- 5:40Ooh.
- 5:41And then since then, yeah, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs
- 5:44and Shaw, Bullet Train, this.
- 5:46Keep talking about doing a Hobson Shaw too, but that's
- 5:49probably never going to happen.
- 5:50But I'm sure he's making the next action movie for next year.
- 5:53Maybe the redo of Running Man.
- 5:54Oh, that would be nice.
- 5:55Edgar Wright's doing that one.
- 5:57Oh, okay.
- 5:57Excited!
- 5:58And this course based on the Fall Guy TV series by Glenn A.
- 6:01Larson.
- 6:02Who's he?
- 6:03Basically, any TV show you saw in the 80s, uh, Battlestar Galactica, The Hardy
- 6:07Boys, Nancy Drew Mysteries, uh, Buck Rogers 25th Century, Misadventures of
- 6:11Sheriff Lobo, BJ and the Bear, Quincy M.
- 6:14E., Drama Center, Auto Man, Masquerade, Cover Up, Half Nelson,
- 6:18Knight Rider, this, Magnum P.
- 6:20I., Knight Man, and all of the reboots.
- 6:23Mm hmm.
- 6:24I guess he passed away in 2014, but, you know, the Larson Estates.
- 6:27Still, uh, getting residuals from like the new Magnum PI and stuff like that.
- 6:31So are you saving it for fun facts or do you want to talk about the origin
- 6:35of the Fall Guy and how it came about?
- 6:37Oh, go for it.
- 6:37As I dug into this, cause you know, I watched the Fall Guy as a kid.
- 6:41I never really watched the pilot episode.
- 6:44And so I found some really interesting sort of mockumentaries online and people
- 6:47doing a retrospective on the Fall Guy.
- 6:49And it turns out Glenn Larson got the idea for the Fall Guy when he was on
- 6:54the set of one of the other shows and he overheard one of the crew people
- 6:57singing the song that he had made up and it's the Ballad of the Lone Stuntman.
- 7:02Heh heh heh heh.
- 7:02And he asked the guy to come to his office and just sing the song to him
- 7:06and he's like, There's a show there!
- 7:07Yeah, so we got the whole show idea from a well, I may not be smart or
- 7:13rich, but I get plenty of poontang
- 7:19Obviously edited for television later, but still completely made up and he's
- 7:23like, oh we can build a show around that what yeah he's a stunt guy, but
- 7:27he's also a bounty hunter because we don't pay stuntmen and And he's got a
- 7:31hot chick who also wants to be in the stunt business a smarty cousin that
- 7:36Took a year of everything at university.
- 7:40Yeah.
- 7:40We watched the first five or six episodes now.
- 7:42Oh.
- 7:43And the worst bail bondsman in the world.
- 7:45Oh, big Jack.
- 7:46Oh my God.
- 7:47It follows the Glenn Larson formula, right?
- 7:50If you compare it to Knight Rider and Magnum and all the other shows that are
- 7:54of that genre and of that era, guy leaves whatever to become a private detective,
- 8:00bounty hunter, vigilante, has a cool car.
- 8:02I mean, Knight Rider, the first one.
- 8:03The Fall Guy truck is iconic, right?
- 8:06And that obviously is part of this movie, too.
- 8:08So, Larson didn't stray too far from his norm, creating the Fall Guy.
- 8:14He just based it on this weird song.
- 8:16And it kind of went from there.
- 8:17So, fun fact, my dad had that truck.
- 8:20Oh.
- 8:20Like, before I was born and when I was a baby.
- 8:22It's named with super truck and there are more pictures of super truck
- 8:26than there are baby pictures of me.
- 8:29Dan also has this truck.
- 8:30It's just in 50, 000 pieces across the side of the mountain.
- 8:33Am I right?
- 8:36Yes, I have a collection of our body the stunt did not go as planned I
- 8:40don't have one that looks like the fog.
- 8:42They're all brown because of the rust I mean, patina, not
- 8:45because they were painted that way, I'm just pointing that out.
- 8:49Well, and I also want to mention the writer of the movie, based
- 8:52on the TV series, but it wasn't written by Glenn Ellison.
- 8:54Drew Pierce.
- 8:55You may know him from Iron Man 3, Izzy's favorite.
- 8:57Uh, the one where Iron Man sits in the car and cries for two hours?
- 9:01That's the one.
- 9:02Mission Impossible Rogue Nation.
- 9:03All right, now we're getting better.
- 9:05Hotel Artemis and Hobbs and Shaw.
- 9:07That's what we're doing this, so it just keeps getting better.
- 9:10From zero to hero.
- 9:12Yeah.
- 9:13Of course the cast, yeah, we have Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, the titular
- 9:17Fall Guy, Emily Blunt as Jodie Moreno, Aaron Taylor Johnson as Tom Rider, we got
- 9:22Theresa Palmer, Hannah Waddingham, Winston Duke, Lee Majors for a cameo, and Heather
- 9:28Thomas from the original series too.
- 9:29Like, every time we've watched this and Lee Majors pops up, I go, which stunt
- 9:32guy is it that I keep thinking he is?
- 9:35Oh, Reynolds?
- 9:36No, the guy who directed it.
- 9:38Oh, Hal Needham.
- 9:39I keep asking, is this Hal Needham?
- 9:40Yeah.
- 9:41He's like, I keep telling you, he's 85 years old.
- 9:43Oh, then dad.
- 9:44Did lead majors show up more than once?
- 9:46Did I miss it?
- 9:47No, no, no.
- 9:48Just at the end.
- 9:49Yeah, we've okay.
- 9:50We've watched it a couple of times and I'm like, is that Hal Needham?
- 9:53And he's like, no!
- 9:55No, it's lead majors, man.
- 9:57They all just turned into old white guy.
- 9:59Just, just, just, I also fall back to Scrooge in that scene
- 10:02when Lee Majors shows up at the beginning and Santa's like, you've
- 10:05been a good boy this year, Lee.
- 10:08I don't know why my mind goes there every time I see him.
- 10:12No, maybe that's the guy that sings the song.
- 10:16I don't know if you've heard, but I've been seen with Farrah.
- 10:21I was kind of expecting him to be the one singing it at the end and
- 10:25said, it was what's the guy's name?
- 10:26Blake Shelton or something.
- 10:27Yeah.
- 10:29Yeah.
- 10:29And I was like, Oh, all right.
- 10:31This is okay.
- 10:32I guess.
- 10:33Steve's voice being what it is right now.
- 10:35It kind of sounds like Lee Majors.
- 10:36Go for it, man.
- 10:38Well, we say it all.
- 10:40Did you guys watch this on Peacock?
- 10:41I assume they have like extended cut and all that, of course, because
- 10:44that's the way to watch it guys.
- 10:45Look, technically the movie flopped and we'll get into that a little
- 10:48later, but I have no idea why.
- 10:50Maybe just, I know I didn't see it in theaters because it came out right
- 10:53in the middle of show season for us, but like I said, the instant it
- 10:56hit streaming like two weeks later or whatever, we're like, 20 bucks.
- 11:00Yes.
- 11:00Did it have a theatrical release?
- 11:02Oh, absolutely.
- 11:03Oh yeah.
- 11:03Yeah.
- 11:03This is like major, major release.
- 11:06Oh, shoot.
- 11:06I missed that.
- 11:07Yeah.
- 11:07Yeah.
- 11:07Like the month of May, apparently every single movie that came out that month and
- 11:11nobody went and saw like this and Furiosa.
- 11:14Well, you know, all the previews I saw this movie made me go, this is hot trash
- 11:20and I don't want to see it because the way they clipped everything made it look
- 11:24like it was going to be Ryan Gosling acting like Ken from the Barbie movie.
- 11:29being a gigantic simp for Emily Blunt's character and a total, like, idiot.
- 11:34Also, he kind of is.
- 11:35Well, But not the whole time.
- 11:37Not as bad.
- 11:38I mean, it's not like he's not.
- 11:40We all agreed on an unrecorded portion of this podcast.
- 11:44The way they should have advertised this movie is just
- 11:48show the clips of Metal Storm.
- 11:50Yes, 100 percent.
- 11:51Advertise it as Metal Storm and let the rest of it be a surprise.
- 11:55Don't you mean Edge of Tomorrow?
- 11:57Don't you mean Borderlands?
- 11:58No, Metal Storm.
- 11:59And guys, we watched that movie.
- 12:01We watched the real Metal Storm, allegedly, that it
- 12:04was kinda sorta based on.
- 12:05It's really not the same.
- 12:07It's really bad.
- 12:10It's also not Space McConaughey falling in love with an alien or whatever.
- 12:14No, it did have that, like, showdown at the edge of the universe.
- 12:17I mean, it kinda did, yeah.
- 12:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:20They did say that.
- 12:21I think it was the tagline that he also used on three other movies.
- 12:24I don't even recall how much marketing had been done to even
- 12:27put it out there originally.
- 12:28Yeah, it was pushed more for like date night, almost like rom com
- 12:31kind of thing, like, Oh yeah, a little action for the boys, but a
- 12:33love story for the ladies, you know?
- 12:36And that is not how it plays out.
- 12:38That's for sure.
- 12:39Did anybody see the movie Edge of Tomorrow?
- 12:43Another Emily Blunt film where she was with Tom Cruise?
- 12:46Oh yes!
- 12:47I feel like there were many references to that movie indirectly.
- 12:52In this one, Ryan Gosling talks about putting Tom Cruise's
- 12:55face through a deep bake.
- 12:56Emily Blunt is directing a sci fi movie.
- 12:59I know it's metal storm and it's based off the real movie or whatever, but
- 13:02even the tagline, like at the edge of the universe, edge of tomorrow, I
- 13:06couldn't help but make those connections.
- 13:08Guys, let's not beat around the bush.
- 13:09Tom Ryder is supposed to be Tom Cruise, even though they mentioned
- 13:14like, Oh, he thinks he's Tom Cruise or something like that.
- 13:16Like in the movie, I'm like, that's not going to help.
- 13:18That's like doing the McConaughey impression later.
- 13:20Oh my God.
- 13:21That So annoying.
- 13:24I just see McConaughey in the theater going, motherfuckers.
- 13:26I mean, Oh, that, like, as we're watching this, Steve was constantly like, so
- 13:32McConaughey is going to sue them, right?
- 13:35I was expecting McConaughey to come out and said it was Jason Momoa.
- 13:40Yeah.
- 13:40Which there was a reference to Jason Momoa on the, or foreshadowing on
- 13:44the fridge, is it Momoa or Momoa?
- 13:46Yeah, that's right.
- 13:49Pronounce it like Samwah.
- 13:50That was the memento thing with the post it notes everywhere, right?
- 13:53Yes.
- 13:54Yeah.
- 13:55Post it notes.
- 13:56But we're getting ahead of ourselves.
- 13:58Okay.
- 13:58Of course, we start off with the incredible, I believe, John Williams
- 14:02inspired score for this movie.
- 14:04The, uh, I was made for loving you, baby.
- 14:07You were made for loving me.
- 14:10Only about 15 different versions of that song.
- 14:12Yeah.
- 14:13It was epic.
- 14:14It was a throwback to the seventies.
- 14:16A hundred percent where you have your theme and that's your theme.
- 14:19Yeah.
- 14:20You'll get it 11 different ways.
- 14:21Even when they loved it.
- 14:22I loved it.
- 14:23I especially love the like sneaking around version of it when you are like sneaking
- 14:27around the apartment and it's like,
- 14:32I like the soundtrack of the movie.
- 14:34Oh, oh, me too.
- 14:35I mean it's no Fall Guy TV series song, but it's pretty good.
- 14:41Tanya's just a huge Kiss fan.
- 14:44. Yeah.
- 14:46I'm just picturing Ryan Gosling singing that song or whatever with the acoustic
- 14:49guitar on the beach like in Barbie.
- 14:50He's waiting for it to come up it's a karaoke.
- 14:53Yeah.
- 14:53By the way, I gotta say to start, Ryan Gosling was so dreamy in the beginning
- 14:58of this film, I just gotta say.
- 14:59What?
- 15:00And I'm a huge fan of Emily Blunt.
- 15:03God.
- 15:04Yeah, that's the spirit.
- 15:06There we go.
- 15:07Rad.
- 15:08What?
- 15:09Different strokes my friend.
- 15:11Yeah, whatever floats your strokes.
- 15:14Whatever strokes your float.
- 15:17Emily Blunt or Gosling in this movie?
- 15:20Both.
- 15:20Both is good.
- 15:22Perfect.
- 15:23And then the other lady was from Ted Lasso.
- 15:26Ted Lasso, yes.
- 15:27In the Waddingtons.
- 15:28Exactly.
- 15:29I recognize her from her like three minute appearance in the new Hocus Pocus.
- 15:35Hocus Pocus.
- 15:36He was the witch.
- 15:37Yes, she was dressed like the original kid, which I'm disappointed.
- 15:40She didn't sing a karaoke night because she's an amazing singer.
- 15:43Well, Eric always refers to her as one of the lesbian moms from sex education.
- 15:48Yeah.
- 15:49Yes, it's true.
- 15:51Hannah Waddingham.
- 15:52Every time I think about that, I'm like, that's where I saw her the first time.
- 15:54I'm like, all right.
- 15:56So yeah, movie starts off and we, uh, meet Tom Ryder and
- 16:00his stunt double Colt Severs.
- 16:01Definitely not Tom Cruise and his stunt double or whatever.
- 16:05They got the stunt set up where they got a rig where they're gonna drop them
- 16:08backwards from like, I think they say like 150 feet or something like that.
- 16:12And they're like, yeah, we just need one more take, Colt.
- 16:14If you could do it.
- 16:15Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:15I'll get up there and along the way he's on the mic hitting on Emily Blunt.
- 16:19Jodi.
- 16:20Planning his vacation.
- 16:21Spicy margaritas.
- 16:22I love a spicy margarita.
- 16:24Margaritas.
- 16:24What is it?
- 16:25They're swim costumes?
- 16:26Yeah.
- 16:26They're swim costumes.
- 16:27You gotta put on your swim costumes.
- 16:29Is that what he called them?
- 16:31But, you know, they do the stunt.
- 16:32We see him falling.
- 16:34It was very minority report, right, where it's like, thought he was gonna
- 16:38stop like a foot from the ground.
- 16:39Oh, he did, but we didn't see it.
- 16:41Yeah, it just like cuts to black and we hear a shriek.
- 16:44Yeah, then we see him getting carried down on a stretcher and you know,
- 16:46like the bomb going off where it's like super slow and everybody's
- 16:49talking like, whoa, whoa, you okay?
- 16:52Like that stuff.
- 16:53You know?
- 16:53Mm hmm.
- 16:54And then we cut to dot dot dot later and he's a valet and I love
- 16:59that he's getting a car for a guy.
- 17:01He's like, Oh, dude, dude, dude, dude, dude, dude.
- 17:03Oh, what happened to you?
- 17:04That's right.
- 17:05You were the stunt guy and you, uh, you got fucked up, right?
- 17:08Yeah.
- 17:08Yeah.
- 17:09Yeah.
- 17:09This is the fall guy I was telling you about.
- 17:11Epic fall, man.
- 17:12Oh my God.
- 17:13What are you doing?
- 17:14He's like, I'm picking up your car as a valet.
- 17:16So my life is hell.
- 17:18He was less dreamy at this point.
- 17:19Yeah, that long hair.
- 17:21Didn't he have like the long fake hair now?
- 17:22Yeah, yeah.
- 17:23Yeah.
- 17:24You have to have a mullet.
- 17:25Cut it.
- 17:25Not into that hobo chic.
- 17:28Deer a leek.
- 17:29Deer a leek.
- 17:30Being a stunt man, he was obligated to do some car stunts.
- 17:33I thought the parking job was.
- 17:35Excellent.
- 17:35Yeah.
- 17:37It's a rental.
- 17:40Nothing like smoking the tires down to the cords on a Challenger.
- 17:43That was awesome.
- 17:44The Hemi sounds fantastic.
- 17:46It was brilliant.
- 17:46Yeah.
- 17:47At that moment, I was like, I'm in it.
- 17:48Where is this going?
- 17:49I'd have given that guy like a 20 tip.
- 17:51Like, Hey, here you go, my friend.
- 17:52That was awesome.
- 17:54Thanks for not rolling it.
- 17:55They ain't my tires.
- 17:57But then the other valet guys were all applauding him when he came in.
- 18:00I'm not gonna lie.
- 18:01I love that there was a Challenger for this because everybody I
- 18:04know who like Owns one of those challengers is a piece of shit.
- 18:08I was gonna say is a douche I'm, sorry guys, and i'm sorry if i've offended
- 18:12everybody anybody here, but no viewers went down Guys gals folks out there
- 18:17listening if you have a challenger Maybe just like think really deeply
- 18:21about why I might have that opinion and it's simply based on the people I've
- 18:25known if you drive a challenger is he has a challenge for you prove to me.
- 18:29You're not a huge fan Or just remove the pre purchase
- 18:33inspection tape from your spoiler.
- 18:35I mean, that's all I'm gonna say But that keeps it safe But then we see
- 18:40him, you know driving off in his truck.
- 18:42Yeah, it's the truck And he gets a call from producer gail definitely not big
- 18:48jack in this one she's like oh I'm not even gonna try to do the bad accent.
- 18:53Wait, are you saying that she had a bad accent?
- 18:55Or you're gonna do a bad accent?
- 18:57My bad accent.
- 18:58No, no, no.
- 18:59Her's is spot on pottity or whatever.
- 19:03Like, cause her accent is just her voice.
- 19:05Since she is British.
- 19:07Steve, in fact, I dare say she thinks What?
- 19:10Oh.
- 19:11Oh, ooh!
- 19:14Hello, Kotes, how have you been?
- 19:16Hey!
- 19:16Umm, so, yeah, we're filming this movie called Metal Storm.
- 19:20You remember Tom, your favorite actor, who you double four?
- 19:23She's like, but the director of this movie asked specifically for you.
- 19:27It's Jodie.
- 19:28Ooooh, Jodie!
- 19:29Dun dun dun Cue The Simp.
- 19:32Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 19:33Love was made for loving you, baby.
- 19:37Oh Let's see, my next note just says, Earth, Minerals, Stone.
- 19:42Remind me what that was?
- 19:43It's been a couple weeks since I've actually seen the movie.
- 19:45Earth, Minerals, Stone.
- 19:47Oh, shit, no, I remember what it is.
- 19:49He's like considering it, but then he like glances over and he sees Oh yeah, the
- 19:52Perky commercial that Tom Ryder's doing.
- 19:56Yeah.
- 19:56And he's like, Earth, minerals, stone, cologne for men.
- 20:01That's right.
- 20:01I was gonna say, I love when they try to do these Dior commercials and they
- 20:06end up like Zoolander where it's like, moisture is the essence of water.
- 20:16Obviously somebody doesn't remember the Johnny Depp perfume commercials.
- 20:20Oh, I do.
- 20:21From like a decade and a half ago.
- 20:24They're still showing up.
- 20:24Yeah, yeah.
- 20:25Yeah, right, right next to the Natalie Portman ones in the Charlize Theron one.
- 20:29Isn't it Sauvage?
- 20:30I think it's Sauvage.
- 20:30Yeah, Sauvage.
- 20:32I see it, I'm like, so this is making fun of the Zoolander thing, right?
- 20:36This can't be real.
- 20:37What's this?
- 20:37The Dior one?
- 20:39The Natalie Portman?
- 20:39The Natalie Portman one where she's like driving a car full of flowers and
- 20:43then like sitting on top of a whale.
- 20:45We had to like explain that one to a fellow podcaster recently.
- 20:50Why does Natalie Portman look like she's 18?
- 20:52Because that's what she was when they filmed that.
- 20:54It was right after the professional, short hair.
- 20:58I think it might've been right after a B for Vendetta and the,
- 21:01uh, someone that Charlize Theron coming out of the pool of gold.
- 21:07Like, I mean, that had to be like straight off of devil's advocate.
- 21:12Yeah, right after Astronaut's Wife, Johnny Depp was like,
- 21:14Hey, I've got an idea for you.
- 21:16Wow.
- 21:16Guys, have you seen Astronaut's Wife?
- 21:18No.
- 21:19It's a dumb movie, but it has the greatest Okay, this movie wins
- 21:24the ratio of stupidest movie to greatest single line in cinema.
- 21:28So, so the story is Johnny Depp is an astronaut, and
- 21:30Shirley Staronis is his wife.
- 21:32Johnny Depp goes up into space and like, basically a symbiote, like venom
- 21:35or whatever, organism gets into him, an alien takes him over basically, and
- 21:40tries to impregnate Charlize and blah blah blah, and it goes from there.
- 21:43In the third act, Charlize is onto it, and she's like, You killed my husband!
- 21:47Yeah, and then I fucked his wife.
- 21:49Oh, that's brilliant.
- 21:54That's writing genius right there.
- 21:59That was a feature film.
- 22:01Not like a Charles Band movie or Like Polanski or somebody directed
- 22:05that thing, you know, that was ours.
- 22:07I would explain some things.
- 22:10So anyway, where were we?
- 22:10Earth, wind, and fire.
- 22:12Oh yeah, so yeah, so we're going to Australia for Metal Storm, right?
- 22:15Because Jody wants him on for a stunt.
- 22:16We're introduced to the deep fake technology going on where they scan
- 22:20Colt and show that like, oh yeah, we can just pop the actor's face
- 22:23on there and then blah, blah, blah.
- 22:25And I'm like, guys, it's like three years away.
- 22:27They're already doing it to a little bit right now, but like, Soon
- 22:30they're not going to have actors.
- 22:31They're just going to scan them and it's going to go great.
- 22:33They're going to have like eight fingers on each hand.
- 22:35It's going to be fantastic.
- 22:36That's how William Shatner is going to live to be 150 years old.
- 22:39I mean, let's face it.
- 22:41Rides again, young William Shatner popping up in a Dior commercial.
- 22:48What would you do for love?
- 22:54Earth.
- 22:55Minerals.
- 22:55Stone.
- 22:58The whole cat and mouse of this stunt, he's hiding behind the car.
- 23:02Not trying to, is Jody there?
- 23:03She's not there.
- 23:04I don't want to see her.
- 23:05She doesn't want to see me.
- 23:06If we skip over that BS and get to the stunt itself, the
- 23:10first big stunt of the movie.
- 23:12Oh, you mean the car roll?
- 23:13Yeah.
- 23:14Take it away, Eric.
- 23:15I mean, I looked at it and went death race, the new death race stuff.
- 23:18And I was like, okay, the cars are, you know, sort of post apocalyptic a
- 23:21little bit, Mad Max, this and that.
- 23:23But I appreciated it.
- 23:25They were using vehicles, they were doing the old school ramps,
- 23:28like all this kind of stuff.
- 23:29It wasn't CGI, but the idea was that they were doing it old school.
- 23:32School and I appreciate that needed a stunt guy that needed
- 23:35somebody to drive the truck.
- 23:36So when it all went down with the explosions and the multiple angles
- 23:40and rolling the car and the hit that it took real or otherwise,
- 23:43I was like, Ooh, it was real.
- 23:45Cause if you stayed to the end and we're watching kind of like the prequel.
- 23:48Reddits, they were showing real footage and they were showing,
- 23:51they actually did flip it.
- 23:52The real stunt guy.
- 23:53Yeah.
- 23:54They really did break the world record on it.
- 23:56Yeah.
- 23:56Eight and a half rolls.
- 23:58Yeah.
- 23:58That's pretty cool.
- 23:59You don't see that too much anymore.
- 24:01I really appreciated that.
- 24:02And I liked that.
- 24:03I was again, I'm like, I was in it back at the valet scene, but now
- 24:07I'm, I'm like, okay, this is cool.
- 24:09This is different.
- 24:09Where are we going with this?
- 24:11And the movie is.
- 24:12Again, a little bit tongue in cheek even up to this point, right?
- 24:14The margarita thing, the ballet thing with the mullet and
- 24:17the Dior commercials and all.
- 24:18And you're kind of like, why is this a bad movie again?
- 24:21Like, why did nobody watch this?
- 24:22Like, it's entertaining and it's, you're not dragging through it.
- 24:25It's pulling you along very quickly because everything happens in very kind
- 24:28of rapid succession over a two and a half hour period, which is pretty incredible.
- 24:32Yeah.
- 24:33Although I will say this scene has one of my irts.
- 24:36If you're going to do something like break the Fucking world record doing roles.
- 24:41Stop cutting away from it, making it look fake.
- 24:43That's true.
- 24:44Just show it once.
- 24:46At least they couldn't show it, which makes me then doubt them.
- 24:50And then I have to Google it.
- 24:52You know, you're a huge fan of when they start quoting Rocky and Fast and Furious.
- 24:56Last of the Mohicans and stuff later.
- 24:58Like that's a nice little running gag between stunt
- 25:00coordinator, Dan and Colt, right?
- 25:02Everybody loves that.
- 25:02Yeah.
- 25:03Referencing potentially better movies.
- 25:06I'll say on par movies.
- 25:07I love those.
- 25:07But then yeah, after breaking the world record, you know, on his first
- 25:10stunt back in, what was like 18 months or whatever, since he broke his back,
- 25:14he gets to see the director and it's Jody and she had no idea he was there.
- 25:18You know, the music starts swelling and she's like, whose fucking idea was this?
- 25:23Who's getting fired?
- 25:24I don't understand why she was so bitter.
- 25:26I mean, I get it.
- 25:27She made a big deal about him abandoning her and I'm like, he was in
- 25:31traction, like in the hospital and you didn't even bother to come see him.
- 25:34Like I don't get it.
- 25:35No.
- 25:36So she tried to come around and everything.
- 25:38Yeah.
- 25:38He basically just ignored her.
- 25:40And then when he's, once he got out, he just abandoned everything,
- 25:43just disappeared off the map.
- 25:45And she didn't get any closure or anything.
- 25:48Apparently during her little monologue explaining to him about what the
- 25:51movie was about that she was making, she talked about all the experiences.
- 25:55that she had after him.
- 25:57You and he kept lighting him on fire.
- 25:59Did you miss that part?
- 26:00That was so good.
- 26:01Yeah.
- 26:01Yeah.
- 26:02Light, light him on fire and slammed him into a rock.
- 26:04Let's do that again.
- 26:05Yeah.
- 26:05Let's do it again.
- 26:06We need to do it again.
- 26:07Do the rock thing was painful, but then it just got stupid cartoon funny.
- 26:12Like the more they did it, the funnier it was.
- 26:14My note for this whole next 10 minutes is just say you're sorry.
- 26:18God damn it.
- 26:19Wrong com.
- 26:19Yes.
- 26:20Yes.
- 26:21I didn't know what to say, so I said nothing at all.
- 26:23Oh, and how'd that work out for ya?
- 26:25See, how about you start with, I'm sorry.
- 26:26Yeah, but it was hilarious at least.
- 26:28Yeah, you got set on fire several times.
- 26:30Then you start singing the, uh, Fall Guy song, and all is forgiven.
- 26:33Yep.
- 26:35Yeah, so yeah, after, uh, being slammed into a rock while set on fire, like,
- 26:3918 times, you know, it eventually comes out, He'd love another chance.
- 26:44And so then he talks with producer Gale.
- 26:46She's basically like, oh that's great, that's great, that's great,
- 26:48you guys are, uh, talking again.
- 26:50So Ryder is missing.
- 26:51What?
- 26:52Yeah, Tom Ryder, yeah, he's missing.
- 26:54We can't call the cops, and if we don't find him soon, we're gonna
- 26:56have to pull the plug on the movie.
- 26:57It was at this moment, the first time watching this, I'm like, Gale is in on it.
- 27:02There will be no surprise at the end because a real producer is like worst
- 27:06case if Tom Ryder doesn't show guess what you get all of his money in
- 27:10restoration to pay for lost time and movies you can't release and it becomes
- 27:16a tax write off roll credits guys what do we think about corporate guy?
- 27:19You say bye bye Tom.
- 27:22But no basically she's like look you're the invisible stunt man
- 27:25you could just sneak around and find Tom Ryder nobody gives a shit
- 27:29about you and he's Yeah, thanks.
- 27:30That's exactly what I'm going for.
- 27:32So he becomes a superhero at this point.
- 27:35He becomes a detective.
- 27:36He becomes the bounty hunter equivalent.
- 27:38Yeah, the bounty hunter.
- 27:39Yeah.
- 27:40He's got to save the movie because it's Jodie's directorial debut.
- 27:43And if it gets shelved, who knows if she'll ever get a chance again.
- 27:46And you know, do it for love.
- 27:47For Jodie.
- 27:48Right.
- 27:48Cue the song.
- 27:49Yeah.
- 27:51And they also showed the new truck and I'm like, boo, you movie.
- 27:56You should have shipped it to Australia.
- 27:58The new truck was terrible.
- 27:59So big.
- 28:00I thought the new truck was awesome.
- 28:02What?
- 28:02No, the new truck sucks balls.
- 28:04Yeah, the new truck was awesome.
- 28:06Big old bloated piece of junk.
- 28:08Ugh.
- 28:0995 percent plastic.
- 28:10Well, you're not wrong about the new Chevy Silverado that they used for this film
- 28:15to replace the original Fall Guy truck.
- 28:17Although they used the old K 1500 plenty.
- 28:20In the movie is our C10 or whatever.
- 28:22Dan will correct me at some point.
- 28:23I'm going to throw some information out regarding vehicles since,
- 28:26uh, that's what we'll do.
- 28:29For the original Fall Guys show, the original square body was a 1980 K 25 or
- 28:352, 500, which is the three quarter ton.
- 28:37And then in later episodes, they switched to an 82.
- 28:40And then for this movie, the square body they had in the background was an 85.
- 28:45Those are just, uh, things to there.
- 28:47You hear that?
- 28:48That was my head hitting my desk.
- 28:52But either way, the old square body classic will run till eternity.
- 28:56It'll be around forever as long as you take care of it.
- 28:58The new one, I don't think I could say the same thing.
- 29:01Although the new one's got all sorts of whiz bang gizmos and all wheel this
- 29:05and this and that and the other thing.
- 29:07So I can cry listening to Taylor Swift.
- 29:09Yeah, 100%.
- 29:10Yes, that was.
- 29:11Oh, God damn it.
- 29:15It's sad, but we know we don't have shortages of, though.
- 29:18Donuts.
- 29:18Donuts!
- 29:19Yes!
- 29:20Yeah!
- 29:22Donuts in that new Chevy Silverado.
- 29:24But they didn't do any.
- 29:25Didn't do donuts.
- 29:26I don't know.
- 29:26They just built her car.
- 29:27You want to do some donuts?
- 29:28They did donuts with the old truck, though, because it's capable of doing it.
- 29:32I know.
- 29:33This one probably, like, the tire gauge would go off, and
- 29:35then it would stall itself out.
- 29:37It would call on stop.
- 29:38Must have update.
- 29:39I think you were in a wreck.
- 29:41I won't lie, the uh, I'll have to drive you to your car scene.
- 29:44It got me.
- 29:45I'm just crawling up the 20 feet.
- 29:47It was good.
- 29:48That was some shit I would do.
- 29:51Now Detective Colt is on the case and he goes to check out Tom's place.
- 29:55And this is where we're introduced to all the post its that he has everywhere,
- 29:58like, Why is Chinese chicken orange?
- 30:00You know, shit like that.
- 30:01Those were so funny.
- 30:02Very memento, though.
- 30:03I enjoyed all of that.
- 30:05But then, out of nowhere, Kitana assassin!
- 30:07Hyah!
- 30:07Hyah!
- 30:08Hyah!
- 30:08This was the Pink Panther scene, right?
- 30:10Where, like, Totally was!
- 30:12Kato flies out of the window, and then they're flying back!
- 30:14Fighting for the next 10 minutes.
- 30:15Like what the hell is this?
- 30:17It was a good fight scene.
- 30:18It was enjoyable.
- 30:19It was reminiscent also of the total recall fight scene with Kate Beckinsale.
- 30:23Thank you.
- 30:23The fight scene with Kate Beckinsale.
- 30:25Oh, the new total recall.
- 30:27Great job.
- 30:28Totally recalling that, Eric.
- 30:29Yes.
- 30:29You know where, and then where she lands on it with her legs
- 30:32between his head, the whole thing.
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:34It's like the same scene.
- 30:35It was great.
- 30:35That's like saying, Oh, you know, like in point break, what's his name?
- 30:38Luke Bracey or whoever the fuck is.
- 30:40I had like, Nobody knows that 20 Break exists.
- 30:42Doesn't exist.
- 30:43Nobody cares.
- 30:44Nope.
- 30:45If you're not talking about Johnny Utah, we're not listening.
- 30:47It was a fun fight scene.
- 30:49It was a good fight scene.
- 30:50I enjoyed it.
- 30:50Now, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 30:51Was that the same movie that had the, uh, subway train through
- 30:55the core of the earth to China?
- 30:57Yes.
- 30:57Okay.
- 30:58I thought so.
- 30:58No, Steve.
- 30:59That's the core.
- 31:01No, that's the total recall 2012.
- 31:04Maybe coming soon on the podcast.
- 31:06Call me, I'm there.
- 31:07Steve is always looking for movies for our Fuck You Science Award.
- 31:10Say, we got you guys, was it The Last Drive or whatever that was?
- 31:13The Last Chase.
- 31:14Last Chase, that's the one.
- 31:15We got you scheduled and everything, don't worry about it.
- 31:17Nice.
- 31:18So yeah, he's looking around, yeah, and eventually he subdues the assassin, we
- 31:21find out, Oh, it's the lead actress of the movie slash Tom Rider's girlfriend,
- 31:25and she was attacking him with a prop sword, and it's like, oh, okay, cool.
- 31:28Yeah, I'm trying to find Tom, you know where he might be?
- 31:30I don't know, check out the club.
- 31:31That, uh, guy with the leopard tattoos on his head probably knows where
- 31:35he is, and I'm like, alright, cool.
- 31:37He's like, how am I gonna get into the club?
- 31:38Oh, you just dress like Tom Rider and act like him, I
- 31:40mean, you are his stunt double.
- 31:42Duh.
- 31:43Yeah.
- 31:44Dude, that Dayglo suit.
- 31:46I love the way that scene looked like if that had happened in a john wick
- 31:50movie, it wouldn't have been that different, you know, like there's all
- 31:52kinds of like scenes in those movies where it's like, who designed this
- 31:56coloring of this dark space, like all this weird neon and stuff going on.
- 32:01You also have to appreciate the GoPro to his chest and he's doing
- 32:04the wobble around kind of thing.
- 32:06And then, you know, he does enough cocaine to see unicorns and stuff.
- 32:09And I mean, it's beautiful.
- 32:09It's brilliant, right?
- 32:10I mean, it's absolutely fantastic.
- 32:12Yeah.
- 32:12You know, he does the special drug to make him see unicorns.
- 32:16Liquid cocaine.
- 32:17Okay.
- 32:17Yeah.
- 32:17Because somebody, somebody dirtied his Shirley.
- 32:21Oh, I hate it when my Shirley gets dirtied.
- 32:23That scene, when you step back and then look at the movie as a whole, that
- 32:27whole kind of scene feels out of place.
- 32:29That's the director's cut.
- 32:30Is that the difference?
- 32:31I don't know.
- 32:32Because I only watched the extended.
- 32:33What I saw it as is, uh, okay, we're running a low on budget, but we need
- 32:37the, we need Luckily, we have CGI unicorns we can throw all over the place.
- 32:42Dude, it was so funny, though.
- 32:44I remember Jess and I were laughing.
- 32:47It was so ridiculous.
- 32:49Stumbling through the club, beating up on people, falling through,
- 32:52like, glass panes, and the bus stop.
- 32:56For me, it felt like I had elements of, like, The Matrix and
- 33:00John Wick, but, like, made fun.
- 33:04Watching that scene.
- 33:05I thought for sure he was hallucinating the whole thing and they were talking
- 33:09to him, like dancing around, pretending like he was beating up people.
- 33:12Yeah.
- 33:13Oh, like the wolf of wall street sitting there, punching the air and shit.
- 33:16Yeah.
- 33:17You should have seen me.
- 33:17I drove home and it was amazing.
- 33:19And you see the car and it's completely trashed.
- 33:22It cuts back to him just on the couch.
- 33:23Just like filling himself up.
- 33:24Like he's on next day.
- 33:25Oh, kick her ass.
- 33:29Red unicorn in a battle.
- 33:31I do my own.
- 33:33This does lead to one of my favorite things in this movie
- 33:36that would be ultimately totally infuriating in real life.
- 33:40His like, terrible breakdowns of events that are happening.
- 33:43Yeah.
- 33:43Oh yeah, his recaps for people.
- 33:46He is the most unreliable narrator.
- 33:49But that might be part of the point?
- 33:51Totally.
- 33:51Oh 100 percent that's how he gets himself into all of these situations.
- 33:55Geneticans!
- 33:56But eventually he does catch up with leperhead guy and is like, Hey, I
- 33:59need to know where Tom Ryder is.
- 34:00And he's like, okay, okay.
- 34:01I'm sorry, man.
- 34:02Security told me to drug you.
- 34:04You need to go to the hotel.
- 34:05Ask for Kevin.
- 34:06Ask for a fruit plate.
- 34:07And he's like, that's not gonna be any more drugs.
- 34:08Is it like, no, no, no.
- 34:09It's a, it's a thing.
- 34:13Waiting for it to be gay code for something.
- 34:14Yeah, right, like, going with the unicorn thing.
- 34:17Yeah, he goes to the hotel, and he runs into Jody, who's there,
- 34:21like, I guess, staying at the same hotel, and he's like, Oh, hey, hey,
- 34:23I'm totally not high, what's up?
- 34:26Are you gonna come to, uh, karaoke?
- 34:28No, the karaoke's later.
- 34:30Yeah, he's supposed to meet her for something I'm gonna see you later.
- 34:34Yeah.
- 34:34Yeah, totally.
- 34:35Yeah.
- 34:35Yeah.
- 34:35Yeah, I'm just gonna get some sleep They were gonna discuss
- 34:38some aspects of the film.
- 34:40That's right.
- 34:40They're gonna talk about the problem with the third act trope That's what
- 34:43it was because they're referencing.
- 34:45Are they gonna get back together?
- 34:47That's right.
- 34:47They have the conversation about that shit later.
- 34:49She did a split screen.
- 34:51That's right.
- 34:51We got the split screen Yeah with him and Jodi.
- 34:53They're talking about like look I just don't know if these guys wouldn't
- 34:56get together cuz you know I'm sorry I thought the splits were really cool.
- 35:01You can't do the tropes and call out the tropes.
- 35:03No, but I kind of like that they're doing the tropes while
- 35:05they're calling out the tropes.
- 35:06Like, I dig it.
- 35:07It was very cool.
- 35:07I agree with you.
- 35:08Yeah, that's what Jess was saying too.
- 35:10She's like, when was the last time you saw a good split screen?
- 35:12And I'm like, Ocean's 11?
- 35:13No.
- 35:13Here it is!
- 35:15500 Days of Summer.
- 35:16That's what I remember.
- 35:18Good movie, Steve.
- 35:18It was good.
- 35:19Really?
- 35:19Yeah, have you not seen 500 Days of Summer?
- 35:22I love it.
- 35:23Yeah, it's not the greatest.
- 35:24Again, because it's one of those movies where if they just had a
- 35:25goddamn conversation, the movie would be four minutes long.
- 35:28But they did have the conversation, but they were thinking different things.
- 35:31That's the whole thing.
- 35:32But, uh, so yeah, he gets the fruit plate, which is a key card to, to work upstairs.
- 35:37Oh my God, there's a dead guy in the bathtub covered in ice.
- 35:41Oh, thank God this rom com has ended.
- 35:43That was another, like, Brad, where I wasn't sure if he was sober yet.
- 35:47And it didn't really happen, because it was very, you know,
- 35:49murder mystery at that point.
- 35:50Mm hmm.
- 35:51The body disappears, right?
- 35:52It goes back and poof, it's gone.
- 35:54So, what do we know?
- 35:55Even as the viewer, we're like, well, was it really there or not?
- 35:57Maybe he's just still really high.
- 35:59Maybe he should have told the cops about the unicorn, too.
- 36:01He tried to.
- 36:02Yeah.
- 36:02Nobody believes him.
- 36:04Now it's on to the next stunt.
- 36:05Because they have to get a truck set up to do a 250 foot jump in a one shot.
- 36:10Yeah.
- 36:12Joey says something like, look, I just need you to do this movie.
- 36:17Just say it, guys.
- 36:18And then, yeah, we get the nice little, uh, I believe in a thing
- 36:20called love at the opera house.
- 36:23Big ol Hadn't heard that song in a hot minute.
- 36:28Yeah.
- 36:30You need to come hang out at our house.
- 36:31He doesn't sing it to me, which would be great.
- 36:34No, he just sings it while like in the shower or like occasionally to the cats.
- 36:40Occasionally I'll just belt out Touching you
- 36:44Touching me But after shooting that scene scene for the whole
- 36:47day and you know, haha, laughing and stuff and a little montage.
- 36:51Hey, you should come with the crew out for karaoke.
- 36:53It's going to be fun.
- 36:54Oh yeah.
- 36:54Yeah.
- 36:54Yeah.
- 36:54Totally.
- 36:55Uh, let me just change and blah, blah, blah.
- 36:57Who's that waiting in his trailer?
- 36:58Oh shit.
- 36:58It's Gail.
- 36:59And she's like, all right, here's your tickets.
- 37:01You need to get the fuck out of Dodge and never look back.
- 37:04And he's like, wait, what are you talking about?
- 37:06Like look, you found a dead guy.
- 37:07Okay.
- 37:07I remember that from the phone call last night.
- 37:09Some stuff about unicorns, but the cops are going to be looking for you.
- 37:12No need to worry.
- 37:13Why?
- 37:13Just get the hell out of the country before it's too late.
- 37:16Uh, what?
- 37:16What?
- 37:16What?
- 37:16He gets like the idea, like he's got to go talk to Tom's assistant Alma
- 37:20and like pick up his dog, Jean Claude.
- 37:22Yeah, he has like five dogs, but specifically they need
- 37:26to go talk to Jean Claude.
- 37:27Him and Colt have a history because he only understands French commands.
- 37:31Yeah, they filmed on a movie together.
- 37:33It was like Top Dog or something.
- 37:35Over the Top Dog or something, yeah.
- 37:37Another reference to Tom Cruise, Top Gun, Top Dog.
- 37:39Yeah.
- 37:41Jean Claude has one specific trick he does.
- 37:43Attaque!
- 37:44Attaque!
- 37:45Yeah, yeah.
- 37:45We know the trick.
- 37:46We know the trick.
- 37:47Also, if anybody's a fan of dogs, this particular dog is a Kelpie,
- 37:50which is an Australian breed.
- 37:52If you thought Australian cattle dogs and border collies
- 37:54were crazy, meet the Kelpie.
- 37:56They make those breeds look tame.
- 37:58There you go.
- 37:58But Alma, you know, he's like asking, like, Hey, you have
- 38:00any idea where Tom might be?
- 38:02No, I really have no idea, but maybe the phone here that I have of his has the
- 38:06information, but you gotta be able to hack it and I don't know how to do it.
- 38:08So I'll give it to you in exchange for a producer credit.
- 38:11And then he says, you know, I'm a stunt guy.
- 38:13Yeah, yeah.
- 38:14Stunt guy who used to fuck the director.
- 38:16Get me the producer credit.
- 38:17Well, I mean, okay, well, I'll see what I can do.
- 38:20And then zap, they're both tased off screen by some big guys.
- 38:25And then, uh, that's right.
- 38:26The guy's like kidnap Alma and like, where's the phone Lebowski?
- 38:29And, uh, The money Lebowski.
- 38:31Well, Colton Jean Clatter in Hot Pursuit, he's chasing him
- 38:34in the new Chevy Silverado and he is like, engage your core.
- 38:38Jean Claude makes him put Jean Claude's seatbelt on.
- 38:40That was funny.
- 38:41Oh yes, of course, of course.
- 38:43Yes.
- 38:43This whole scene is a lot of fun because it brings us into the next big
- 38:47stunt, which I walked away from this going, I've never seen this before.
- 38:53It was sort of like ballroom dancing with a dumpster, like I never.
- 38:57I don't know how else to describe it, but it was like super cool, right?
- 39:00I mean, it was the typical Indiana Jones jump from one truck to the other
- 39:04big bulky Brutus guy, got to take them down, you know, all this kind of thing.
- 39:07But when they got to the dumpster hanging off the back of the truck and it's just
- 39:11swinging around, Oh, that was so cool.
- 39:14Very well done.
- 39:15Hey guys, you may remember when we talked about the movie The Stuntman,
- 39:18which has kind of the same plot.
- 39:20Hey, we need you to fill in for this actor so the production doesn't
- 39:23get shot down while hijinx ensues.
- 39:25Blah, blah, blah.
- 39:26But then something else happened in this movie that was like, Holy
- 39:29shit, we need to talk about this with Grand Touring Motorsports.
- 39:32Because at karaoke, someone is singing Against All Odds.
- 39:36Oh, yeah, I thought that was awesome.
- 39:41And I'm like, if Shatner shows up for a cameo, like, this is too much.
- 39:44This movie has instantly become the greatest movie in the world.
- 39:48Yeah, I did notice that too.
- 39:49I was like, look at that.
- 39:50That's like a double cross.
- 39:51Yeah, big, beautiful chase fight scene, the whole back of jump
- 39:55from truck to truck going through town with not a cop to be found.
- 39:58Afterwards he gets the phone, he's like, Alright, I need the video on this,
- 40:01but, Oh shit, I need to get to karaoke!
- 40:03And he gets there just in time to be like 45 minutes late.
- 40:06Everybody's late.
- 40:07It must be a square body owner's thing, cause Dan does the same
- 40:11thing, I'm just calling it out.
- 40:12What?!
- 40:14Bah, bah, bah!
- 40:15But who is there?
- 40:16Oh, it's stunt coordinator, Dan, you know Winston Duke, and he is basically like,
- 40:19Hey, I need your help with something.
- 40:21I need you to help me check Tom's apartment because he's got these
- 40:24post-its all over the place.
- 40:25And I'm sure one of 'em has to be the password for this phone of his,
- 40:28because they asked the tech gal who's drunk and she's like, oh no, you're
- 40:31not getting in that fucking phone.
- 40:32Yeah.
- 40:33Yeah.
- 40:33I think she's the one who's like, you know, knowing that guy, he probably has a.
- 40:36Post a note of it somewhere.
- 40:37Oh, yeah.
- 40:39Oh, we got to go break into his apartment.
- 40:41Which is sort of like against all odds in the sense that we're
- 40:44going back to the building.
- 40:45Remember that Jeff Bridges went back a couple of times.
- 40:47So I'm like, okay, so we're doing this again, back to Nakatomi tower.
- 40:51So wait, did they cut out the scene where Colton Jody banged on a national monument?
- 40:56Ancient ruins, just raw dog in on ancient ruins.
- 41:01And then the dad from Webster shows up just on top of the Sydney
- 41:04Opera House just plowing one out.
- 41:06Yeah, I think that got left on the cutting room floor.
- 41:08Yeah.
- 41:09Damn PG 13.
- 41:10They eventually find the password, open it up, and they're like
- 41:12looking through his videos.
- 41:13Basically see one of him like drop kicking his stunt double Henry and killing him.
- 41:17Maybe like hits his head on table or something.
- 41:19For me, this was so funny because it was the dodgeball moment.
- 41:23Got another Ben Stiller reference where he's like, nobody makes
- 41:25me bleed my own blood, right?
- 41:27That kind of thing.
- 41:28Yeah.
- 41:29Marty McFly, you know, don't call me chicken.
- 41:31Don't call me chicken.
- 41:32Yeah, it's the same thing.
- 41:33And I'm like, oh my God, we're just pulling all the threads, aren't we?
- 41:36Yeah, like the instant they see that video.
- 41:39Oh, well, the news is on for some reason.
- 41:41And Cold Steve is a suspect in the death of Henry Vuh vuh vuh or whatever.
- 41:46The baddies are closing in on the apartment.
- 41:48And now, guys, we get stunts!
- 41:51Yeah!
- 41:51Stunts, stunts, stunts, stunts, stunts, stunts.
- 41:55Yeah, just a whole bunch of fighting all over the apartment.
- 41:59Guns blasting.
- 42:00Stuntman Dan does one of those, what we call the Bobby Sixkiller, the clothesline.
- 42:05Yeah, got a renegade references.
- 42:08I think Cultiverse even does like the Reno Raines dive from upstairs onto somebody.
- 42:13By the way, for those who don't know what we're talking about, Steve and I
- 42:15have watched every single episode of the Lorenzo Llamas Vehicle Renegade.
- 42:20In the last six months.
- 42:21Yeah, my dad used to watch that.
- 42:24It was bad then.
- 42:25You know what?
- 42:26It has some really bad episodes, but it's also not that bad.
- 42:30So here's the thing.
- 42:31There's so many things were like, you watched it back in the day and
- 42:34you're like, Oh, this was great.
- 42:35And it sort of aged like milk.
- 42:36This was not that great.
- 42:38And therefore has aged exactly as it still is.
- 42:44Aged like milk.
- 42:46Oh, I might not pull that right.
- 42:47That went out on you.
- 42:49Use it wisely.
- 42:53So you basically, yeah, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight,
- 42:55and it ends up onto a boat.
- 42:57And holy shit, Tom Ryder's on this boat.
- 42:59So Colt gets knocked out and he wakes up all, you know, tied up and they're
- 43:03like, where's the phone Lebowski?
- 43:04Oh, we did forget to mention a few scenes before this.
- 43:07Somebody did ask Gosling why he always wears his Miami Vice jacket.
- 43:11Oh, that was way back with the fight with the lady back in sail.
- 43:14Yeah.
- 43:15It's because he used to work on the Miami Vice.
- 43:18Stunts at Lake Orlando.
- 43:20Yeah, the stunt show or whatever.
- 43:21And he can do boat stunts with his hands tied behind his back.
- 43:25Yeah, that's important.
- 43:26That's a key point to the plot.
- 43:28This was planted like an hour earlier in the movie.
- 43:31Yeah, so he's tied up.
- 43:32Where's the phone Lebowski?
- 43:33And he's like, why would I tell you my only insurance of still being alive?
- 43:36And like, All right, good point.
- 43:37And then Gail, she ends up calling Jody and is like, Oh my God, uh,
- 43:41Colt's a suspect in a murder.
- 43:43I know it's the craziest thing.
- 43:44And I'm like, okay, further confirming.
- 43:46Gail is obviously the bad guy.
- 43:48Tied up into a blah, blah, blah.
- 43:49It's not going to be a big reveal.
- 43:51Like, why are they dragging this along?
- 43:53Tom Ryder, he's like monologuing.
- 43:55We're like, Oh man, look, I just try and do this.
- 43:57And you were trying to hog the spotlight as the cool stunt guy.
- 44:00And so I had to fuck up your stunt or whatever.
- 44:03Like, wait, what are you talking about?
- 44:04Oh yeah, the accident where you broke your back.
- 44:05Like.
- 44:06That's because of me.
- 44:07It was me, Austin.
- 44:08It was me all along, Austin.
- 44:11Awesome bitch.
- 44:12And then he's like, yeah, that's why I had to kill Henry too, because Henry
- 44:15humiliated me in front of everybody.
- 44:17And so I had to kill him.
- 44:18Okay, cool.
- 44:19And Gale took care of it for me.
- 44:21What?
- 44:23Anyway.
- 44:23Well, the boat scene.
- 44:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:25And the boat scene, like all the other people that know Colt's been
- 44:28like looking for Tom or whatever.
- 44:29They all get like bagged and killed immediately.
- 44:32Yeah.
- 44:32Like bags over the head.
- 44:33What was his name, Kevin, or whatever, from the hotel Dune.
- 44:36The guy with the leper tattoos.
- 44:37They're all just fucking killed.
- 44:39I like how, uh, Colt's like, Tom, listen to me.
- 44:41You need carbs.
- 44:43Get a grilled cheese.
- 44:44You'll feel better.
- 44:46You'll make better decisions.
- 44:47Again, a bunch of one liners throughout the movie that just, not
- 44:51that the movie needed it, but it was nice because it just kept you
- 44:54revved up through the whole thing.
- 44:55You're like, got these action scenes.
- 44:56We've got some comedy, got some bad rom com in there.
- 44:59Oh, so much fun.
- 45:00But then eventually Colt's like, look, you guys have been beating
- 45:02me up for the last 10 minutes.
- 45:03Man bun over here shot the phone.
- 45:05So there's no more phone.
- 45:06Oh, cool.
- 45:07So then they start dumping gas on them You know eventually colt just spit some
- 45:12on them and you know guys we got the lighter he spits the gas on him Oh shit,
- 45:16so we got the stunts of like guys on fire And then he drives off to the miami
- 45:20vice music in reverse because he did the stunt show remember from like an hour
- 45:24earlier While he's driving, Jody calls, answers his phone, and tells her the
- 45:30reason that stunt guys do the thumbs up.
- 45:33Yeah, it hurts, but not as much as, not as much as without you, or
- 45:37whatever, you know, rom com bullshit.
- 45:39I was made for loving you, baby, you were made for loving me, BOOM!
- 45:43Boat explodes.
- 45:45Awesome, that was awesome.
- 45:47And, like, that's a wrap on Colt.
- 45:48Roll credits, guys.
- 45:49What do we think about the Fall Guy?
- 45:51Nope, not even close.
- 45:53What?
- 45:54There's still 45 minutes in this fucking movie?
- 45:56What?
- 45:57Exactly!
- 45:58The news is like, oh yeah, it's a suicide, and oh yeah, here's a deepfake
- 46:02video they made of Colt killing Henry, you know, the video from the phone or
- 46:06whatever, but they superimposed his face.
- 46:08The next morning, the baddies, they're looking for Stuntman Dan on set.
- 46:11Cause they know he was in the apartment and stuff.
- 46:13No loose ends, right?
- 46:15But then one of the aliens from the show starts sneaking around in Jody's trailer
- 46:20or whatever, and then a fight breaks out, but the aliens got the voice modulator.
- 46:24No, don't hurt me.
- 46:28Cause you know, he's getting his ass whooped.
- 46:29That scene was so funny too.
- 46:31What I don't understand is why didn't he take the fucking mask off?
- 46:36He had.
- 46:3630, 45 seconds from the time he walked into the trailer.
- 46:40It's not velcro.
- 46:41Probably got some snaps or zippers.
- 46:43No, he took it off easily afterward.
- 46:45It's like the scene with the rock where he's getting beat
- 46:48up against it two dozen times.
- 46:50All these things that were just overly exaggerated.
- 46:52Just say you're sorry.
- 46:53Exactly.
- 46:53And this just adds to it.
- 46:55You're just like, this is so stupid.
- 46:57But it's hilarious at the same time.
- 46:59So, you know, he gives the thumbs up and Jody helps him get the thing off.
- 47:02And he tells Jody everything like, I got fucking gales in on it, and
- 47:07unicorns, and yeah, all that shit.
- 47:08Goes back to his terrible description of what's happening.
- 47:11And she's like, We need to go to the police and clear your name.
- 47:14And he's like, No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 47:15See, if they think I'm dead, then they'll finish your movie.
- 47:17You need to finish the movie, meanwhile, I'm gonna sneak around
- 47:19and do some cool shit, right?
- 47:21Inspire all the little Jodies of the world to do their thing, and they kiss, and, oh!
- 47:25Yeah, it was like, besides, I have a plan.
- 47:27We're gonna lure them back, and then I'm gonna kick their ass.
- 47:29Or we could give them over to the cops!
- 47:30Or I can kick their ass.
- 47:31Yeah, yeah.
- 47:32I like this through line keeps going.
- 47:36I think Gail shows up and she's like, Hey, so we're not going to do the car jump.
- 47:40We're just going to do visual effects and we got to shoot Tom's monologue.
- 47:44He has like eight more pages for it or something like that.
- 47:47Is Matthew McConaughey log?
- 47:49Yeah.
- 47:49We get the McConaughey monologue.
- 47:51The McConaughey log.
- 47:53It's high noon on the edge of tomorrow.
- 47:57Giggity, giggity.
- 47:59Alright, alright.
- 47:59All right.
- 48:00All right.
- 48:00All right.
- 48:00Um, uh, I was shooting aliens long before I was banging them or whatever.
- 48:06It was awesome.
- 48:10There's one thing that will help us love.
- 48:17Yeah, yeah, so the whole plan is, uh, you know, Don McConaughey, Tom
- 48:20Ryder, he's, uh, he's mic'd up, but he always forgets that he's mic'd
- 48:24up, and so they're gonna try to trick him to force a confession out of him.
- 48:27Ron Burgundy!
- 48:28Yeah, exactly.
- 48:29Don't put it on the prompter, then.
- 48:30I'm Ron Burgundy.
- 48:32I'm Ted Baxter.
- 48:33Go fuck yourself, Metal Storm.
- 48:36But yeah, so then, Jody, she's putting up a front, like, Oh, I'm so sorry to hear
- 48:39about Colt, and she's like, Oh yeah, Colt was dead to me anyway, fuck that guy.
- 48:42Anyway, we just need one more take of your monologue here.
- 48:45Then we're gonna rig this canyon up with all the charges and stuff.
- 48:49They have like the green screen or whatever backed up around the
- 48:52car, like, Alright, we just need a couple establishing shots of
- 48:54you shooting some aliens, and then we'll have the stunt guys go in.
- 48:57We just need some time to rig up the canyon for them, blah blah blah.
- 49:00But then, wouldn't you know it, somebody comes in and handcuffs Tom
- 49:03right to the inside of the, uh, car.
- 49:05And it's like, what, what the hell's going on?
- 49:07Oh, you boys been to Mexico?
- 49:09No, and they go driving through that cannon.
- 49:11Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 49:13And he's like, Colt, you were dead.
- 49:14What the hell, man?
- 49:15That's right, bitch.
- 49:16Boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 49:17And then, you, you tried to kill me and it didn't work.
- 49:20And he's like, you know, just trying to get a confession out of
- 49:22them as all the stuff's going on.
- 49:23And all the security guys, Manbun and all those guys are chasing
- 49:26after him and they're drugs.
- 49:27And I like the, uh, like, I, Cole Seifers, was set You ready for this 250 foot jump?
- 49:39We're gonna go film in Louise.
- 49:41They died at the end.
- 49:42Whatever.
- 49:43Yeah.
- 49:44Being chased by the BMWs that the man bun had.
- 49:47Yeah.
- 49:47But it was awesome to see those get destroyed too.
- 49:50I was like, excellent.
- 49:51Yeah.
- 49:52Yeah.
- 49:52Take out the bad guys.
- 49:54It's all like 10 minute cool ass stunt scene, but eventually, Tom
- 49:57confesses or whatever And he's all like Alright, here's the jump.
- 50:03They jump like it's the end of Hooper.
- 50:05BOOM!
- 50:05Roll a couple times.
- 50:07And Tom's alive.
- 50:08What?!
- 50:09Gail shows up.
- 50:09It's all the, Gotta get the tape.
- 50:11Gotta get the tape.
- 50:12Right, that's right she's gotta get the tape cause that's the
- 50:14evidence they're gonna use.
- 50:15And that was being recorded in one of the vans.
- 50:17So she went after that guy first.
- 50:19Where I drew a parallel to this whole scene with her and the white suit,
- 50:22and the helicopter, and the prop wash.
- 50:24Do you guys remember?
- 50:26Wayne Newton was in License to Kill.
- 50:28Remember the whole scene at the end, and he's, the shit's all over him, and he's on
- 50:31the side of that wherever the hell he was?
- 50:32Yeah.
- 50:33To me, it was like the same scene.
- 50:34Bond takes care of business at the end of the day, but I saw
- 50:37Gale and Wayne Newton kind of in
- 50:40As a cult leader?
- 50:41Yes, that too.
- 50:43And also you got other security guys, you know, just going after cult.
- 50:47But then, you know, Stuntman Dan, he's like, Stunt set!
- 50:49Assemble and attack!
- 50:51And, you know, a whole bunch of fighting and stuff there.
- 50:54Very Game of Thrones at that point.
- 50:56Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:56There's a group of people you don't want to fuck with.
- 50:58It's stunt people.
- 50:59They will fuck your shit up.
- 51:01They're like fucking carnies.
- 51:02Yeah, dude.
- 51:03Yeah, eventually Tom and Gail, they get to the choppa.
- 51:06Colt's chasing after them.
- 51:08Jody's like in the truck with the camera thing on it.
- 51:11Colt jumps on that and he's hanging out.
- 51:12You know, straight out of, uh, The Stuntman, where it's got the guy in
- 51:16the little chair or whatever, and extending the arm out, you know, so he
- 51:20can jump on that under part of the car.
- 51:22Chopper, hang off that, and meanwhile the pyros are blowing
- 51:25to slow down the chopper.
- 51:26Buh, buh, oh shit, we're about to get tailspin or whatever.
- 51:30And, I don't know, he says quippy lines to the girl because,
- 51:33you know, he's the fall guy.
- 51:34Yeah, he gets to the chopper and they just start beating the shit
- 51:36out of everybody, and then he jumps.
- 51:38I say onto the pillow.
- 51:40Oh, that's right.
- 51:41He jumps out and lands on the giant airbag.
- 51:43That's right Survive that yeah, that's right the chopper like tail spins
- 51:48It's struggling and then the cops show up and everybody gets arrested.
- 51:52Basically.
- 51:52Yeah, pretty much.
- 51:53Yeah, like the song comes on Well, it sort of ended like remember Monty Python
- 51:58and the quest for the Holy Grail all of a sudden the cops show up It's for me.
- 52:01It was the same thing.
- 52:02It was like somebody called them But Stuntman was the same thing though
- 52:05at the end all of a sudden the cops are there and the helicopter as well
- 52:09and all those other parallels you could make to the Stuntman movie.
- 52:12Absolutely every scene and then the second half of Stuntman it's like it
- 52:16represented this movie it's great.
- 52:18Minus Barbara Hershey.
- 52:19I mean you know Emily Blunt I'll take Emily.
- 52:21But uh yeah so Colton, Jodie Kiss and as the pyros go off boom we
- 52:27get the trailer for Metal Storm.
- 52:29Oh my god.
- 52:31And who's starring in Metal Storm?
- 52:32Now the Tom Ryder's rotting away in ass back in prison.
- 52:35All the pectorals.
- 52:36Jason Samosa.
- 52:39Jason.
- 52:42Mama.
- 52:45So good.
- 52:46And we see that all the gets her producer credit.
- 52:48Yay.
- 52:49Was it H hall or whatever at Comic Con baby.
- 52:52Woo.
- 52:53And we see, uh, Colton, he's got his new jacket that says fall guy stunts.
- 52:57What?
- 52:58Oh, he's the fall guy.
- 52:59Get it guys.
- 53:00It's an origin story!
- 53:01Anyway.
- 53:02And then the real song by Blake Shelton comes on and we start getting
- 53:05outtakes just like the great stunt movies of late 70s and early 80s.
- 53:09And a cameo by Lee Majors himself.
- 53:11Yeah!
- 53:14Lee Majors shows up and Tom's trying to like run away or whatever and he uh
- 53:17stumbles onto you know the pyro field but basically like landmines or whatever.
- 53:22What was that, Fizana cell phone?
- 53:25Yeaaaaaah.
- 53:25Wasn't there a cartoon that was like that, where they ran
- 53:27off into the desert and Wile E.
- 53:29Coyote, probably?
- 53:30That sounds about right.
- 53:31Yeah, one of those, right?
- 53:31Very cartoonish.
- 53:32But that doesn't take away from the movie in any way,
- 53:35that just adds to it, actually.
- 53:36I know, and guys, that's the extended cut.
- 53:38Of the fall guy.
- 53:39Now going around the room, would we recommend it ladies first?
- 53:44Yes, I would.
- 53:45And I normally have been, I know to a lot of the movies we watch.
- 53:53I watched this one twice.
- 53:55Wow.
- 53:56All right.
- 53:56How about you, Jessica?
- 53:57Yes.
- 53:58I would recommend it.
- 53:59I like having a movie that doesn't challenge me in any way, shape, or form.
- 54:04Fully aware that it is only there for entertainment, and it really
- 54:08commits to being very entertaining, sometimes in a very creative way.
- 54:12Yeah, it's unchallenging, and it's stupid, and it's nice to look at.
- 54:15What's not to like?
- 54:16There you go.
- 54:16Eric, how about you?
- 54:17I like the fact that it didn't take itself too seriously.
- 54:21It is an homage to the original Fall Guy.
- 54:23If you watched the pilot episode of Fall Guy, that's basically
- 54:27the premise of this movie.
- 54:29I mean, I enjoyed the Fall Guy as a kid, so I go back to those memories as well.
- 54:33I think it was a great reboot.
- 54:35I don't know that they could do a sequel, but to Tanya's point,
- 54:38this might be one of the only two.
- 54:40We are all going to maybe come to the same consensus here that this
- 54:43movie was awesome, highly underrated, and if you haven't seen it, you
- 54:47should watch it because it's a great pass a Saturday afternoon when
- 54:51it's snowing outside kind of movie.
- 54:52How about you, Brad?
- 54:53Yes, thousand percent.
- 54:54I totally recommend this.
- 54:55I'm really easily entertained.
- 54:58All right, Mountain Man Dan.
- 55:00So, I'm on the fence.
- 55:01What?
- 55:01What?
- 55:03Because here's the thing, I disagree with you, Eric, on the fact, I don't see being
- 55:07similar to the show with the exception of names and him being a stunt guy.
- 55:12There's a lot that's completely different than the show, in my opinion.
- 55:14Well, it's the origin story and in further sequels, that's
- 55:18when he gets the bounty gigs.
- 55:19But even so, if you're going to go with that logic of it being the
- 55:22origin story, he was a mentor to Jody.
- 55:24It wasn't a love interest of his.
- 55:26Still can be.
- 55:26They had to modernize it a little bit.
- 55:29To be fair, Jody was also maybe 19 years old or whatever in the series.
- 55:35Valid point.
- 55:35A little creepy these days.
- 55:36The majors didn't look a day under 60.
- 55:39I go into anything like this open minded, not trying to compare it to the origin.
- 55:43Therefore, it did have some good action scenes and everything.
- 55:46Storyline was good.
- 55:47Kind of cheesy, but to be expected it's based off the 1980s cheesy
- 55:51storyline for a show in a sense, but A show that's based on a made up song
- 55:58But the sad thing is that song it's more about him not getting
- 56:01laid and not getting the women than actually no No, he gets laid.
- 56:04He just doesn't get paid If you listen to the song the lyrics of the
- 56:09song He's seen with him on screen.
- 56:11Oh, yeah.
- 56:11And then all the girls run off with Bert.
- 56:13Yeah.
- 56:13Yeah.
- 56:14Okay.
- 56:14Yeah So it's like he's there with it, but he's friend zoned all the time
- 56:17for everything all in all It's not a bad movie, but it's not a favorite I'd
- 56:21put it that way which you're saying if it was called the stuntman instead
- 56:25of the fall guy You'd probably 10 plus 10 I don't know about 10 but it
- 56:29would definitely be a better stuntman than the movie called stuntman.
- 56:32Yes There you go Oh, this movie is amazing.
- 56:37This should be mandatory viewing.
- 56:38Everybody go watch this.
- 56:39Yeah, guys, spoilers.
- 56:40This will be mentioned in the Stevie awards at the end of 2024 as I'll say top
- 56:4610, but you can guess somewhere in the top 10 where this movie is going to be.
- 56:50This was a good year for movies though.
- 56:52This was the year of Steve for movie.
- 56:54There was a stunt movie.
- 56:55There was an eight movie.
- 56:57There was an eight versus Godzilla movie.
- 56:59There was a dune movie.
- 57:00There's, uh, Deadpool and Wolverine movie.
- 57:04All you're missing is a Star Trek movie.
- 57:07Maybe next year.
- 57:08There you go.
- 57:09There's like eight Star Trek series going on.
- 57:11Like they don't need to put another movie.
- 57:13JJ Abrams is probably ruining some other franchise.
- 57:17Well, he didn't ruin this one.
- 57:19This is good stuff.
- 57:20All right.
- 57:20Well, then we'll take a quick commercial break.
- 57:21Oh, but when we come back.
- 57:23We have more beer, fun facts, and what we learned from the Fall Guy.
- 57:33There's so many podcasts out there.
- 57:35How do I find the one for me?
- 57:40For so long, I've searched for podcasts all over, but none
- 57:43of them seem to fit my needs.
- 57:45Where's my Nick Cage pissing fire podcast?
- 57:48Where's my monkey tickling?
- 57:49I couldn't find it anywhere.
- 57:51Until I found the Everything I Learned From Movies podcast with Steve and Izzy.
- 57:55And now I get to hear about all the monkey tickling I want, baby.
- 58:00So many podcasts out there are all talk and no congo.
- 58:04That's why I listen to Everything I Learned From Movies.
- 58:07Greatest Living Actor?
- 58:08Nicolas Cage, of course.
- 58:10That's why I listen to Everything I Learned From Movies.

- 58:36added in the history of adding!
- 58:38She said it!
- 58:39They get better every week!
- 58:40I don't know, but I've been told.
- 58:44I've been made for loving you, baby.
- 58:47Steve, you were made for loving me.
- 58:50Can you take a knife for me?
- 58:52So, I'm a little under weather, so we're gonna skip the beer part.
- 58:55Would any of you be interested in any fun facts about this movie?
- 58:57Absolutely.
- 58:58Yes.
- 58:59I don't know, Steve.
- 59:00Are they super fun facts?
- 59:02Cause fun, fun facts.
- 59:04I was made for giving you fun.
- 59:07I was made for receiving.
- 59:10Yeah, I sense a theme here.
- 59:14Somebody's about to get backed anyway.
- 59:17All right, guys.
- 59:21What do you think the critics thought of the fog A Oh, they hated it.
- 59:25Oh, yeah.
- 59:25But what percentage did you think, what percentage gave it a positive review?
- 59:29Ah, yeah.
- 59:30Zero to 100%.
- 59:3140% gave it positive.
- 59:3340.
- 59:34I'm going middle 50, 65.
- 59:36Everybody likes stupid things.
- 59:3765 . No, the critics, critics don't like stupid things.
- 59:41They're mean.
- 59:42Are we talking Rotten Tomatoes or are we talking like actual critics?
- 59:44Rotten Tomato Critics.
- 59:45Rotten Tomato Critics.
- 59:46Critics usually think that they're smarter than they really are.
- 59:49And they try to be more sophisticated.
- 59:51Well, everyone who's slammed Idiocracy, look now.
- 59:54Yeah, look at him living it now.
- 59:57I think the critics are idiots, and I'm really sad to say this,
- 59:59but I think they gave it 17%.
- 1:00:03Ladies and gentlemen, this movie is certified fresh 81 percent with the
- 1:00:07critics and 85 percent with the audience.
- 1:00:10Nice, that deserves a round of applause.
- 1:00:11Everybody who has actually seen this movie loves it.
- 1:00:14We're what, 8 for 8 on this episode here?
- 1:00:16So Yeah, that's 100 percent of us critics.
- 1:00:19That's right.
- 1:00:19The IMDB popularity score is 97 Yeah!
- 1:00:24It's really high.
- 1:00:25Did you see what the IMDB score is out of 10?
- 1:00:28Not so great, 69.
- 1:00:2969.
- 1:00:306.
- 1:00:309.
- 1:00:33All right, 125 million dollar budget.
- 1:00:36Actually not that bad nowadays, right?
- 1:00:37Usually you hear like 200, 250.
- 1:00:40What do you think the worldwide gross was?
- 1:00:43Ooh, that's gonna be low.
- 1:00:45125 million.
- 1:00:46Considering Tanya didn't even know it was theatrically released.
- 1:00:49Yeah, was that in theaters for like two weeks or whatever?
- 1:00:52Yeah.
- 1:00:53Did you better internationally?
- 1:00:54It feels like one of those movies though that like did really well.
- 1:00:57Where?
- 1:00:57In Slovenia?
- 1:00:59Other countries who are like, yes, America style.
- 1:01:01Stuntistan.
- 1:01:02Yeah.
- 1:01:03Turns out, Germany.
- 1:01:04Well, yeah.
- 1:01:05Eastern Europe where all the stunts usually happened.
- 1:01:08I'm going to go with like a 75 percent number and just say it did like 80.
- 1:01:13It did 93 million in the US, 181 worldwide.
- 1:01:17But the studio claims that lost like 200 million or whatever, because
- 1:01:21of all the advertising or whatever.
- 1:01:22And I'm like, that's just bullshit tax write off stuff.
- 1:01:25Yeah.
- 1:01:25Yeah.
- 1:01:26And I know they got 20, 25 bucks from us.
- 1:01:28The The ation.
- 1:01:30Woo.
- 1:01:31This movie has been in development since 2010.
- 1:01:34Holy crap.
- 1:01:35Really?
- 1:01:35Yep.
- 1:01:36Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Nicholas Cage, Jason Statham,
- 1:01:40and Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
- 1:01:41Were all eye to play.
- 1:01:42Colt Seavers over the years.
- 1:01:44Guys, what if Nicolas Cage was Colt Zevers?
- 1:01:46Oh no!
- 1:01:48Oh man!
- 1:01:49Movie would be trash.
- 1:01:51Oh yeah!
- 1:01:52Movie would be a dumpster fire.
- 1:01:54Let's give him the benefit of a doubt.
- 1:01:55Let's say 2010 Nicolas Cage when it was first conceived.
- 1:01:58So like National Treasure time period?
- 1:02:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:02National Treasure, Sorcerer's Apprentice era Nicolas Cage.
- 1:02:06I'm in.
- 1:02:06I'm here for it.
- 1:02:07Would still be a dumpster fire.
- 1:02:09Give it to me.
- 1:02:10It has to be Con Air, Nicolas Cage.
- 1:02:11Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:13If it were the 90s, I could totally see it.
- 1:02:15No, it has to be Moonstruck, Nicolas Cage.
- 1:02:17That's the one we'll share, right?
- 1:02:18Yeah, Vampire's Kiss and Era, Nicolas Cage.
- 1:02:21Yay!
- 1:02:22I can't see Nicolas Cage pulling this off just because of his
- 1:02:26mannerisms, you know what I mean?
- 1:02:27I think Ryan Gosling was a good choice.
- 1:02:29The other ones you listed, only because they're all action heroes,
- 1:02:33in a sense, it'd be like, all right, we're going to do Sylvester Stallone.
- 1:02:35alone 20 years ago as a fall guy.
- 1:02:37It doesn't make sense.
- 1:02:38You know what I mean?
- 1:02:38No, none of those people.
- 1:02:40Only person off that list that could have maybe done it.
- 1:02:44I hate to say it.
- 1:02:45Statham, I think.
- 1:02:46Joyce and Statham.
- 1:02:47No, Tom Cruise.
- 1:02:49Oh yeah, Tom Cruise flipping roles.
- 1:02:51And it's this stunt double that's the star.
- 1:02:52You can't forget this isn't just an action movie.
- 1:02:55This is an action movie with romance.
- 1:02:56None of those people you listed are romantic leads other than Tom Cruise.
- 1:03:01Like none of them.
- 1:03:01No, no, no.
- 1:03:02So somebody mentioned Edge of Tomorrow earlier and Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
- 1:03:08Here I am going to argue with that one.
- 1:03:10It is a romantic movie, but I think it's really more of a charisma thing.
- 1:03:13Yeah.
- 1:03:14And that's where I say, I think the reason The Rock doesn't work is because
- 1:03:17who's he fucking stunt doubling for?
- 1:03:20He doesn't look like anybody.
- 1:03:21But yeah, I think Jason Statham could pull it off because I think
- 1:03:25he has enough charisma to be able to pull off the like, I'm sort of
- 1:03:27an asshole and I'm kind of likable.
- 1:03:29I just want to see Statham putting on wigs.
- 1:03:31There's that too.
- 1:03:32If we're going to use that as a criteria, then my number one choice.
- 1:03:35Of a recast would have been Chris Evans, because if you watch the
- 1:03:39losers, it's very similar to this.
- 1:03:41He plays a similar character to Colt Seavers.
- 1:03:44He could have pulled this off if Ryan Gosling couldn't done it.
- 1:03:46I can see it.
- 1:03:47Yeah.
- 1:03:47Captain America.
- 1:03:48Ryan Reynolds could have done it.
- 1:03:49No.
- 1:03:50No.
- 1:03:51Talk about people who are one speed actors.
- 1:03:53Oh, he only has one character.
- 1:03:55I like Ryan Reynolds.
- 1:03:57That's why I love Blade Trinity.
- 1:03:58He's still the, he's just Ryan Reynolds in the middle of Blade movie.
- 1:04:03Except for Just Friends.
- 1:04:05Never watched it.
- 1:04:06What?!
- 1:04:07Wow, it's so cute!
- 1:04:09It's so I don't watch cute movies!
- 1:04:12I watch good movies!
- 1:04:12It's funny, it is funny.
- 1:04:13This movie was almost too cute.
- 1:04:15A little gross.
- 1:04:16But yeah, no, it's good.
- 1:04:17You gotta watch Just Friends.
- 1:04:18No, you gotta watch The Proposal.
- 1:04:20Ha ha ha!
- 1:04:20Ha ha ha!
- 1:04:21Ha ha ha!
- 1:04:22Or Well, Buying the Cow was really your favorite.
- 1:04:25Oh, Buying the Cow is excellent.
- 1:04:26Or the one where he's buried alive.
- 1:04:28Because that's why you watch Ryan Reynolds, to watch him slowly suffocate.
- 1:04:31I mean, isn't it?
- 1:04:33No.
- 1:04:33Ha ha ha!
- 1:04:34Shh!
- 1:04:34Chris Evans, that's my vote.
- 1:04:35That's a good one.
- 1:04:36Yeah, I buy it.
- 1:04:37Ryan Gosling has a fear of heights, but still did the 150 foot fall
- 1:04:41at the beginning of the movie.
- 1:04:42Wow.
- 1:04:44Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:44That like, the pseudo one take where he goes all the way up the stairs
- 1:04:47and everything and then drops or whatever, like, I never would have
- 1:04:49guessed he was afraid of heights.
- 1:04:51No.
- 1:04:52Also, Rangostling has eight stunt doubles.
- 1:04:56You get to see a couple of them.
- 1:04:57I liked that at the end.
- 1:04:58Yeah, they showed a bunch of the stunt doubles at the end.
- 1:05:00One of them was Jackie Chan, did you see?
- 1:05:05One of them was John Cena.
- 1:05:06No, I didn't see him.
- 1:05:08John Cena, that'd be good too.
- 1:05:10Alright, and the film within a film, Metal Storm, was heavily inspired
- 1:05:13by the real film Metal Storm colon The Destruction of Jared Sin 1983.
- 1:05:18The entire concept, costumes, and desert setting and car based stunts are right
- 1:05:23from the Charles Band film which has been described as Star Wars meets Mad Max.
- 1:05:26Guys, we watched that movie.
- 1:05:28It is not that.
- 1:05:29It's definitely Star Wars meets Mad Max, but it's not cowboys and
- 1:05:33aliens falling in love bullshit.
- 1:05:35The tagline, It's High Noon at the Edge of the Universe, is used in that movie, and
- 1:05:38is also the tagline for several other Full Moon Entertainment productions, including
- 1:05:42Oblivion and Oblivion 2 Colon Backlash.
- 1:05:45Ooh, you do not want backlash in your colon.
- 1:05:48So let's pull on that thread, not the colon one.
- 1:05:50Don't pull on your colon's thread.
- 1:05:52We talked about this off air a little bit, but for the benefit of our
- 1:05:58audience, I want to see this Metal Storm, Jason Momoa movie be made.
- 1:06:03Like that should be the sequel to Fall Guy.
- 1:06:05Hell, I'll even watch Aaron Taylor Johnson in it.
- 1:06:07I don't care.
- 1:06:07Or McConaughey.
- 1:06:08I want them to make that movie.
- 1:06:11And then use clips from this movie as the outtakes and the
- 1:06:14credits, like in the credits.
- 1:06:16Oh, it's like the chasing with the helicopter and stuff at the end.
- 1:06:20And they're like, what the hell is this movie?
- 1:06:21We should check this out.
- 1:06:23Couldn't be any worse than black Adam at the end of the day.
- 1:06:25So just leave it at that.
- 1:06:26Right.
- 1:06:26Oh, Well, ladies and gentlemen, we've reached the most important part.
- 1:06:31Yes.
- 1:06:32What did we learn from the Fall Guy?
- 1:06:34Jessica, would you like to go first?
- 1:06:36What did I learn?
- 1:06:37That really one of the best fight scenes I've seen in a long
- 1:06:40time happened in a dumpster.
- 1:06:41Yeah Tonya?
- 1:06:44That Ryan Gosling can speak some French.
- 1:06:47Attache!
- 1:06:47Or whatever.
- 1:06:47Attaque!
- 1:06:48Attaque!
- 1:06:49I was waiting for, Ryan Gosling can get it.
- 1:06:53J'accuse!
- 1:06:54How about you, babe?
- 1:06:55I learned that I was made for loving you, baby.
- 1:06:59You were made for loving me.
- 1:07:01Mwah!
- 1:07:03All right, mountain man, Dan, how about you?
- 1:07:05I'll say the one thing I learned was the fact that Brian Gosselin
- 1:07:07being afraid of heights.
- 1:07:08That's an interesting tidbit of information.
- 1:07:10All right, Brad, how about you?
- 1:07:11What'd you learn?
- 1:07:12I am such an idiot.
- 1:07:14I learned Nothing.
- 1:07:16No, I learned from watching the movie that Fall Guy was a double reference.
- 1:07:20Not just for the stunt man, but also for the fact that he was
- 1:07:24the fall guy for the murder.
- 1:07:28So many levels!
- 1:07:30All right, Eric, how about you?
- 1:07:31I learned that movies can still be made the old school way
- 1:07:36and they can be a lot of fun.
- 1:07:37And not all of this movie is old school, but going back to the world
- 1:07:41record setting rollover, the dumpster scene and all the other stunts that
- 1:07:45they did, it's far Fun to see movies can still be put together this way.
- 1:07:48All hope is not lost.
- 1:07:50Points for practical facts.
- 1:07:51Exactly.
- 1:07:52Exactly.
- 1:07:53They say, they mention in the movie, uh, like, hey, you get an Oscar for stunts?
- 1:07:56No, no, we don't.
- 1:07:57Like, guys, why don't we give Oscars for stunts?
- 1:08:00We get it for sound editing or whatever the hell, gaffing.
- 1:08:03Yeah, for sure.
- 1:08:04What I learned, nihilism is a viable worldview.
- 1:08:09It's true though.
- 1:08:10Gail said that or something early on in the movie and I'm like, that's my girl.
- 1:08:13We believe in nothing!
- 1:08:15Babe, wait, what is it that we learn from all the Gales movies?
- 1:08:17Other than nihilism is a valid worldview?
- 1:08:19But that's really just a vehicle?
- 1:08:21What?
- 1:08:21They said it a couple of times.
- 1:08:22Never give up, which you're supposed to learn from Gales movies.
- 1:08:25Oh yeah, never give up, never give up hope or whatever, yeah.

- 1:10:12It's gonna be a good year for cars.
