- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good morning, children.
- 0:07Speaker 3: It's 97.1 Wash FM. We're Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Welcome to Wednesday, the last day of September straight ahead
- 0:14Speaker 3: of us. October and Halloween and the new month and wow,
- 0:18Speaker 3: we're almost done with 2026. Soon and very soon, we'll
- 0:23Speaker 3: be playing Christmas music, Chili.
- 0:25Speaker 2: It'll be a thing.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Okay.
- 0:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Let's just, I got you. I need a moment.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Deck the halls, we'll play some soon. Fa la la
- 0:34Speaker 2: la la la la la. You know why I'm feeling
- 0:36Speaker 2: very Christmassy today?
- 0:37Speaker 4: Why is that?
- 0:37Speaker 2: That's why I'm feeling good this morning, Chili.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I'm feeling good because I've already knocked out a couple
- 0:42Speaker 3: of people on my Christmas shopping list.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Oh, good for you.
- 0:47Speaker 6: Yes.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Now, I'm not saying that they were very tough gifts
- 0:50Speaker 3: to get. I'm not going to say which ones because...
- 0:52Speaker 3: My parents were included in that, and they are religious.
- 0:55Speaker 3: They listen to the podcast.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad.
- 0:58Speaker 4: So you're not going to say what it is, but
- 1:00Speaker 4: that's good. That's all you need to say is that
- 1:02Speaker 4: you started your shopping and that you're ahead.
- 1:04Speaker 3: It's the first time this has ever happened in my, what,
- 1:07Speaker 3: 51 years of life, ever.
- 1:09Speaker 4: But you still haven't had it delivered on time. That
- 1:11Speaker 4: remains to be seen.
- 1:12Speaker 2: No, it has to be delivered on time. You know why?
- 1:15Speaker 3: Because you probably know where I got this stuff from.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And they'll deliver it before noon today with a drone.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Because that's just the Jeff Bezos way. Why are you
- 1:24Speaker 3: feeling good this morning?
- 1:25Speaker 4: I'm feeling good because I discovered that there's a gift
- 1:29Speaker 4: card in my purse. And I thought there was only
- 1:31Speaker 4: $ 24 left on it. Oh, yeah. Let's just say there
- 1:35Speaker 4: was another digit.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 4: That I had to spend. So I got to go
- 1:40Speaker 4: back into the store and buy some more things. And
- 1:43Speaker 4: I'm wearing one of the tops that I bought from
- 1:47Speaker 4: Nordstrom Rack.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I like that color, too. Is that a burgundy?
- 1:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like a burgundy. Brownish burgundy color.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Burgundy brown like this.
- 1:53Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 4: So anyway, that's why I'm feeling good.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Oh, look at you.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Nothing like found money to make you feel some joy
- 1:59Speaker 3: this morning.
- 2:00Speaker 4: That's right.
- 2:00Speaker 2: How are you feeling this morning?
- 2:02Speaker 1: 866-927-4361.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Feel free to give us a call. Tell us why
- 2:04Speaker 3: you're feeling good. Before 5 o'clock this morning as we
- 2:10Speaker 3: get things started here at 97.1 Wash FM on a
- 2:13Speaker 3: brand new day. News is coming up. Top stories at
- 2:16Speaker 3: the top of the hour. What do we need to
- 2:18Speaker 3: know this morning, Chili?
- 2:19Speaker 4: Nearly 2 million WSSE customers in Montgomery and Prince George's
- 2:23Speaker 4: counties are being asked to conserve water. I've got all
- 2:28Speaker 4: the latest details on that coming up in just a
- 2:30Speaker 4: few minutes.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:36Speaker 4: The president says he wants to rename artificial intelligence super intelligent,
- 2:42Speaker 4: saying the word artificial makes it sound fake. That announcement
- 2:45Speaker 4: came as he met with the top tech leaders who
- 2:49Speaker 4: signed a voluntary agreement outlining AI safety commitments. WSSC Water
- 2:55Speaker 4: is asking nearly 2 million customers in both Montgomery and
- 2:58Speaker 4: Prince George's County to conserve water after a power outage yesterday.
- 3:03Speaker 4: at its Potomac filtration plant. Now, the power is back,
- 3:07Speaker 4: and crews are restoring the systems, and they say drinking
- 3:09Speaker 4: water remains safe. Part of Lafayette Square has reopened to
- 3:14Speaker 4: the public again. Crews moved the temporary fencing, freeing up
- 3:19Speaker 4: about half of the park's brick paths and benches, but
- 3:22Speaker 4: that area along Pennsylvania Avenue and the White House fence
- 3:26Speaker 4: is still blocked. Maryland voters, you've got until October 13th
- 3:31Speaker 4: to register or update your voter information for the November
- 3:35Speaker 4: 3rd election. Now, those who miss the deadline can register
- 3:39Speaker 4: during early voting or on election day. The NFL has
- 3:43Speaker 4: slashed ticket prices for this Sunday's Colts Commanders game in London. Now,
- 3:48Speaker 4: some tickets that sold for more than 200 pounds are
- 3:52Speaker 4: now just 79. And fans who had paid full price
- 3:55Speaker 4: say they're a bit frustrated by the last minute discount.
- 3:59Speaker 4: And finally, should drivers always use their turn signal? Well,
- 4:04Speaker 4: according to an online poll, 87% said yes, every one,
- 4:10Speaker 4: every time. Another 10% say they skip it when your
- 4:14Speaker 4: intentions are obvious, like in a turn lane. And only
- 4:18Speaker 4: about 1% say they just say use it whenever you
- 4:21Speaker 4: feel like it. forecast for today partly cloudy sky is
- 4:24Speaker 4: going to feel like summer with highs near 80 right
- 4:27Speaker 4: now 58 in chantilly.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Remember you get your news right around this time every
- 4:32Speaker 3: hour till we and chili soft stories at the top
- 4:34Speaker 3: of the hour it's 97.1 wash fm and in just
- 4:38Speaker 3: a few minutes we're going to talk about you and
- 4:41Speaker 3: how you're doing this morning your morning mindset we hope
- 4:44Speaker 3: maybe we found something that might help you to have
- 4:48Speaker 3: a better day maybe a better week you might need
- 4:50Speaker 3: it so listen And even if you don't, somebody you
- 4:54Speaker 3: know might. And then you can tell them what you
- 4:56Speaker 3: heard this morning. That's Minutes Away. Stay close. You hear
- 5:00Speaker 3: all that variety from the 80s, 90s, and today that
- 5:03Speaker 3: we play for you here at 97.1 Wash FM?
- 5:06Speaker 2: That's just what we do.
- 5:07Speaker 3: We're Toby and Tilly in the morning, and we also
- 5:11Speaker 3: love to pause and talk about you and give you
- 5:14Speaker 3: maybe some wisdom, some advice that might help carry you
- 5:17Speaker 3: through the day.
- 5:18Speaker 4: It's called our morning mindset, and oftentimes we find a
- 5:21Speaker 4: quote that speaks to us, and hopefully it does the
- 5:24Speaker 4: same to motivate you.
- 5:25Speaker 3: So let's try this from Sarah Blakely. who reminds us
- 5:29Speaker 3: that failure is not the outcome. Failure is not trying.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Failure is not the outcome. Failure is not trying. Look,
- 5:41Speaker 3: maybe the thing you're worried won't work won't. That's okay. Like,
- 5:45Speaker 3: why are you worried about it? You'll figure it out.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But you won't ever know if you talk yourself out
- 5:51Speaker 3: of trying. Give yourself permission to be bad at something
- 5:55Speaker 3: before you get good at it. Pays dividends. Trust Sarah
- 5:59Speaker 3: Blakely and trust yourself. Failure is not the outcome. Failure
- 6:03Speaker 3: is not trying. Go get them today.
- 6:07Speaker 5: All right?
- 6:07Speaker 3: You've got this. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Hang with Toby
- 6:11Speaker 3: and Chili in the morning because in just a bit.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Air travelers are really getting creative on how to dodge
- 6:16Speaker 4: those bag fees. So grab your cargo coat and join
- 6:21Speaker 4: the conversation.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Remember, the TalkBack microphone is always open for you if
- 6:26Speaker 3: you're listening to us and you're signed in on your
- 6:28Speaker 3: iHeart app. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Sometimes it's just easier
- 6:32Speaker 3: to tap a button. Speak into your phone and know
- 6:34Speaker 3: that that voice note will come to us here, especially
- 6:37Speaker 3: when you hear something like this when it comes to
- 6:40Speaker 3: air travel. And I bring this up knowing that there's
- 6:44Speaker 3: three airports in the area and you might know somebody
- 6:47Speaker 3: or you yourself might be on the way to one
- 6:49Speaker 3: of them to fly out for whatever reason, whether it's work.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Or leisure travel.
- 6:54Speaker 3: People are trying to dodge bag fees, Chili, and they're
- 6:57Speaker 3: getting a bit creative now.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Yeah, it's called cargo coating, okay? Or cargo coat flying.
- 7:03Speaker 4: That's when you're wearing an oversized coat and you're stuffing
- 7:06Speaker 4: all the pockets with snacks, maybe your chargers, even toiletries
- 7:10Speaker 4: and spare clothes. A recent survey found that 38% of
- 7:14Speaker 4: people flying between November and March plan to do this because, well,
- 7:18Speaker 4: those are coat months, right? But nearly half of them
- 7:22Speaker 4: say they'll skip carry on entirely to stuff those coats. Right.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Six percent say they do this whole cargo coat thing
- 7:31Speaker 4: all year.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Now, I think it's a good idea because I'm all
- 7:34Speaker 3: about saving money. And one of the ways that these
- 7:37Speaker 3: airlines are nickel and diamond us is by charging these
- 7:40Speaker 3: bag fees and limiting bags you can carry on with
- 7:44Speaker 3: you and whatnot. That's annoying. But I will say this.
- 7:48Speaker 3: How are you going to navigate TSA with one of
- 7:51Speaker 3: these cargo coats on, stuffed with toiletries and all of that?
- 7:55Speaker 2: You take it off.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You take off your coat. You put it on the thing.
- 7:59Speaker 4: And then it goes through the thing.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And they're not going to flag you for it?
- 8:03Speaker 4: Whatever is flaggable, they'll flag you for it. But, like, toiletries,
- 8:06Speaker 4: if you have the right size, they won't flag you
- 8:08Speaker 4: for it. You don't have liquids in your pockets.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Right.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I think this, look, I get the why. I just
- 8:13Speaker 4: don't like traveling with bulk on my body.
- 8:16Speaker 2: That's exactly my point.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I'm not a fan of having like, you know, the
- 8:19Speaker 4: lighter whatever on me, the better. So, you know, yes,
- 8:23Speaker 4: it's annoying paying an extra fee, but it would be
- 8:26Speaker 4: more annoying at least for me to have all that
- 8:29Speaker 4: weight physically on me or having to then fold up
- 8:33Speaker 4: this massive puffy coat or whatever and stuff it somewhere
- 8:36Speaker 4: in the overhead bin. Yeah, no thank you.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I feel you, Chili. I used to
- 8:41Speaker 3: love it when bags used to fly free. And now
- 8:44Speaker 3: I'm going to have to figure out how to do
- 8:46Speaker 3: this with a coat next time I fly.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Or not.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Either or, it could be interesting. Read more about it.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Toby and Chili page, washfm.com and stay right there. Top
- 8:57Speaker 3: stories at the top of the hour on the way, Chili.
- 8:59Speaker 3: What are you working on?
- 9:00Speaker 4: A house is being built on the National Mall, but
- 9:04Speaker 4: it's not a permanent home. I've got all the details
- 9:07Speaker 4: on that story coming up in just a few minutes.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Toby and Tilly in the morning here at 97.1 Wash FM. Congratulations, D.C.
- 9:16Speaker 3: and Baltimore. Why congratulations this morning?
- 9:19Speaker 4: Well, because they were on the list of the best-smelling U.S.
- 9:22Speaker 7: Cities.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Now, number one was Boston, D.C. 2, and Baltimore 8,
- 9:26Speaker 4: based on cleanliness, air quality, and an abundance of green spaces.
- 9:30Speaker 2: So you smell that? That's that D.C.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Fragrance. 97.1 Wash FM.
- 9:39Speaker 2: The president says he and tech leaders are renaming.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Artificial intelligence super intelligence. I've got the latest on that
- 9:45Speaker 1: story and others on the way. Says he and.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Tech leaders are renaming artificial intelligence super intelligence. I've got
- 9:56Speaker 4: the latest on that story and others on the way.
- 9:59Speaker 4: With Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 10:08Speaker 4: The president says he and tech leaders are renaming artificial
- 10:12Speaker 4: intelligence super intelligence. He made the announcement yesterday after a
- 10:16Speaker 4: White House AI summit with top CEOs. Meanwhile, former special
- 10:21Speaker 4: counsel Jack Smith defended his investigations of the president before
- 10:25Speaker 4: the Senate Judiciary Committee. Smith said that he followed the
- 10:28Speaker 4: law in the election interference and classified documents cases. while
- 10:33Speaker 4: Republicans accused him of unethical and in some cases, illegal tactics.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Power is back at a WSSC water treatment plant, but
- 10:43Speaker 4: nearly 2 million customers in Prince George's and Montgomery counties
- 10:47Speaker 4: are still being asked to limit their water use. And
- 10:50Speaker 4: that means going easy on flushing, laundry and the dishwasher. However,
- 10:54Speaker 4: the water is safe to drink. Fairfax County's newest high school, Skyview,
- 11:00Speaker 4: is getting a real quantum computer in December with students
- 11:04Speaker 4: starting hands-on work next spring. FCPS says it will be
- 11:08Speaker 4: the first K-12 school division in the entire world with
- 11:12Speaker 4: a working quantum computer for students. A house is being
- 11:16Speaker 4: built on the National Mall, but it's not a permanent home.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Purple Heart Homes is constructing a fully accessible modular house
- 11:24Speaker 4: in just seven days. to benefit a military veteran, and
- 11:27Speaker 4: the public can watch the build through October 5th.
- 11:31Speaker 8: And D.C.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Neighborhoods are turning their porches into stages this fall with
- 11:36Speaker 4: free porch fests, bringing live music to the streets. Capitol
- 11:40Speaker 4: Hills is going to take place October 10th, while Adams
- 11:43Speaker 4: Morgan's is on November 7th. Forecast today, it's going to
- 11:46Speaker 4: feel like summer. Partly cloudy, highs near 80. Right now,
- 11:49Speaker 4: 59 in Hyattsville.
- 11:52Speaker 3: That's the news. 866-927-4361 is the number. Now that you've
- 11:58Speaker 3: got your top stories at the top of the hour,
- 12:00Speaker 3: let's talk about this Florida firefighter who is a straight-up shoddy.
- 12:04Speaker 3: She's set a Guinness World Record, though. This firefighter, she
- 12:08Speaker 3: is the shortest woman firefighter on the planet. Now, You
- 12:13Speaker 3: might think that you've faced some challenges because of your height.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Have you? She seems to have overcome them. What say you?
- 12:20Speaker 5: 866-927-4361.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Hit us up. Tell us all about it. We're talking.
- 12:27Speaker 3: 866-927-4361. That's the number because we want to talk to
- 12:31Speaker 3: you about challenges. And if your height is a challenge
- 12:35Speaker 3: for you, this is where you can jump into the
- 12:39Speaker 3: program and tell us what it's like living your life
- 12:42Speaker 3: as a showdy, so to speak.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Or a very tall person.
- 12:46Speaker 2: That's true, too.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Yeah, that could be challenging as well.
- 12:48Speaker 3: And the reason this comes up is because there's a
- 12:50Speaker 3: firefighter in Florida who just set a Guinness World Record.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Yeah, talk about being small but very mighty. This 4'10
- 12:58Speaker 4: woman named Autumn Kelso is now the shortest female firefighter
- 13:03Speaker 4: in the world. And she's been... Fighting fires for five years.
- 13:06Speaker 4: She says her size is actually an advantage. You know why?
- 13:09Speaker 4: Because it helps when she has to squeeze into tight
- 13:11Speaker 4: spaces to put out those fires.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I don't care if you're 6'3 or 4'10. If I'm
- 13:15Speaker 3: in a fire and you can get me out and
- 13:17Speaker 3: carry me out, you know what that fireman carry or
- 13:19Speaker 3: that fire person carry in this case, feel free because
- 13:23Speaker 3: I am not above needing to be rescued. And if
- 13:25Speaker 3: Autumn Kelso wants to do it, I'm going to trust
- 13:28Speaker 3: that she's a record holder.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not a really a tall person at five,
- 13:33Speaker 4: six and change. But, you know, certainly I can imagine
- 13:36Speaker 4: if you were too tall or quote unquote too short,
- 13:40Speaker 4: life could throw some challenges your way.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't had a problem with it. I'm six two.
- 13:44Speaker 3: I always was a bit taller growing up and a
- 13:47Speaker 3: bit wider. But that's another story for another time. I
- 13:50Speaker 3: will tell you that the height thing becomes an issue
- 13:52Speaker 3: getting onto airplanes because I have to duck down. And,
- 13:56Speaker 3: you know, sometimes I have bumped in my head that
- 13:59Speaker 3: happens sometimes. I blame height. You know, you'll have these things.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Why are you challenged because of your height? Let's talk
- 14:07Speaker 3: to Tony, who is on the phone this morning from Reston.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Dating is tough.
- 14:11Speaker 7: Really?
- 14:12Speaker 4: Why is that?
- 14:13Speaker 5: I'm five foot three inches tall. I tried online dating,
- 14:15Speaker 5: but then I meet up with a woman and I
- 14:17Speaker 5: usually don't get a second date.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Oh, you think they're being superficial?
- 14:20Speaker 5: I think it's because of my height, but I'm not
- 14:23Speaker 5: quite sure.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Well, don't give up the fight there, brother. There's somebody
- 14:27Speaker 3: right for you that loves you in spite of any
- 14:30Speaker 3: height deficiencies you may or may not feel like you have.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Come on.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I'm just being straight up with the man. Authentic and honest.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Thank you for the call this morning, Tony from Reston.
- 14:42Speaker 5: Shout out to all the other short games out there.
- 14:44Speaker 3: A la bag short kings what what it's 97.1 watch
- 14:48Speaker 3: fm toby and chili in the morning.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Hey instagram's got a new subscription feature it'll cost you
- 14:55Speaker 4: and we'll share what you get for 3.99 a month
- 14:59Speaker 4: coming up It.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Was just a matter of time.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Toby and Chili in the morning, 97.1 Wash FM. What
- 15:06Speaker 3: was once free now has a tier where you can
- 15:10Speaker 3: pay a little extra and get your social media apps
- 15:15Speaker 3: to do even more for you. Specifically, let's talk about
- 15:19Speaker 3: Meta's Instagram this morning.
- 15:21Speaker 4: It's called Instagram Plus. So the regular Instagram is still free.
- 15:24Speaker 4: But if you pay that $ 3. 99 a month, your stories
- 15:27Speaker 4: will be able to stay up there for 48 hours
- 15:29Speaker 4: instead of 24 hours. Plus, you could choose who sees
- 15:33Speaker 4: each story in your list of audience. When you view
- 15:36Speaker 4: other people's stories, Toby, you're anonymous. They'll never know that
- 15:39Speaker 4: you looked at their story. Nice. And then there's also
- 15:43Speaker 4: custom app icons, bio fonts, and you can pin six
- 15:47Speaker 4: posts instead of just three.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Well, it sounds to me like $ 3. 99 a month, not bad.
- 15:53Speaker 3: I like the whole pinning of multiple posts. That's a
- 15:55Speaker 3: good thing because it gets around algorithmic stuff. I like
- 16:00Speaker 3: the anonymous story viewing because, you know, I like my privacy.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Custom audience lists could be very, very helpful too, especially
- 16:08Speaker 3: when you want to keep something kind of amongst a
- 16:11Speaker 3: close circle.
- 16:12Speaker 5: You know?
- 16:12Speaker 4: Here's the downside, though. The articles I was reading about
- 16:15Speaker 4: this kept bringing it up, and I can see how
- 16:17Speaker 4: it could be an issue. It could really make stalking
- 16:21Speaker 4: easier for those who really like to spy on people
- 16:24Speaker 4: in their lives. Not in a bad way, necessarily, but
- 16:27Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Plus, it makes you so
- 16:30Speaker 4: addictive because you're so curious as to who's watching your
- 16:33Speaker 4: stories because now you get to see. You get to
- 16:35Speaker 4: see every single person who's watching how many times they've watched.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Imagine yourself in your 20s, the amount of stalking and
- 16:42Speaker 4: obsessing that you do now. It would just make it worse.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Shoot, people obsess and stalk even if they're not in relationships,
- 16:49Speaker 3: people that are twice the age of the 20s.
- 16:50Speaker 2: But you know.
- 16:51Speaker 4: What I'm saying is like that version of me, this
- 16:54Speaker 4: would be dangerous for.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Right.
- 16:55Speaker 4: And if I'm not a business, there's nothing about this
- 16:58Speaker 4: that appeals to me. So I'm keeping my, I mean,
- 17:00Speaker 4: it's not 50 bucks a year, but I'm keeping that
- 17:02Speaker 4: in my pocket.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Thank you very much. That's your choice.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Me, if I'm going to get some benefits out of it,
- 17:08Speaker 3: I don't mind paying a little more. And I think
- 17:09Speaker 3: most people, if they know that the benefit is worthwhile
- 17:13Speaker 3: to them, I think that that's one of the things
- 17:15Speaker 3: that all these streaming services have proven to us. If
- 17:17Speaker 3: you want it, you'll pay for it. Just ask Netflix
- 17:20Speaker 3: and other places. And I think this is just the beginning.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Facebook and the others will all follow suit. We're Toby
- 17:26Speaker 3: and Chili in the morning.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Want to read more? You can. Toby and Chili page, watchfm.com.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Need news? Got you covered.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Top stories at the top of the hour coming up.
- 17:34Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 17:35Speaker 4: Do you think venting helps calm you down when you're
- 17:37Speaker 4: really upset? Well, researchers say, no, it doesn't. They've got
- 17:41Speaker 4: a better suggestion, and I'll share that with you coming
- 17:44Speaker 4: up in just a few minutes.
- 17:45Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 17:53Speaker 1: top of the hour.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Millions of kids will be automatically signed up for Trump
- 17:58Speaker 4: accounts under new rules. We've got the latest on that
- 18:01Speaker 4: story and others on the way. With Toby and Chili
- 18:04Speaker 4: in the morning, a 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 18:12Speaker 4: The president is calling yesterday's White House AI summit a success.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Leaders from Anthropic, OpenAI, NVIDIA and others signed safety commitments
- 18:22Speaker 4: and he says that they agreed to police themselves. Millions
- 18:26Speaker 4: of kids will be signed up automatically for Trump accounts
- 18:30Speaker 4: under new rules. Parents can invest for their children and
- 18:34Speaker 4: at 18, those accounts turn into traditional IRAs. WSSC Water
- 18:39Speaker 4: is asking nearly 2 million customers in Montgomery and Prince
- 18:42Speaker 4: George's counties to conserve water after a power outage yesterday
- 18:47Speaker 4: at its water filtration plant. Now the power has come
- 18:50Speaker 4: back and crews are restoring systems. Part of Lafayette Square
- 18:55Speaker 4: is reopened to the public again. Crews moved the temporary fencing,
- 18:59Speaker 4: freeing up about half of the park's brick paths and benches.
- 19:03Speaker 4: But the area along Pennsylvania Avenue and the White House
- 19:06Speaker 4: fence is still blocked. Protesters plan an all-day rally tomorrow
- 19:11Speaker 4: at the site of the proposed Triumphal Arch near Arlington
- 19:15Speaker 4: National Cemetery. Veterans groups and political figures are expected to
- 19:19Speaker 4: join as several groups sue to stop the 250-foot arch
- 19:24Speaker 4: from going up. A smaller version of the Las Vegas
- 19:28Speaker 4: Sphere is a step closer to National Harbor. A Prince
- 19:31Speaker 4: George's County Council committee advanced a plan to create a
- 19:34Speaker 4: special taxing district and to authorize $ 215 million in bonds
- 19:39Speaker 4: to help pay for it. And do you think venting
- 19:43Speaker 4: really helps calm you down? Researchers say, no, it doesn't.
- 19:47Speaker 4: And even a hard run can keep you fired up.
- 19:51Speaker 4: They say deep breathing, mindfulness, and yoga work better. Forecast today,
- 19:56Speaker 4: partly cloudy skies with highs getting up to near 80.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Right now, 60 in Annapolis.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Fire away with that question on this Wednesday morning, please.
- 20:09Speaker 4: 57% of people admit they judge someone based on this
- 20:13Speaker 4: before they meet them. What is it?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Well, go figure.
- 20:18Speaker 3: 866-927-4361, Teddy Swim's Capital One Arena, October 13th. Thanks, AEG.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Call now, get it right, and you'll win those tickets.
- 20:28Speaker 3: The question again.
- 20:29Speaker 4: 57% of people admit they judge someone based on this
- 20:36Speaker 4: before they meet them. What is it?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Call now, get it right, go see Teddy Swim's games on.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:44Speaker 2: You might have missed it.
- 20:46Speaker 3: If you did, here's the question one more time.
- 20:50Speaker 4: 57% of people admit they judge someone based on blank
- 20:55Speaker 4: before meeting them. What is it?
- 20:58Speaker 3: Teddy Swim's Capital One Arena, October 13th. Thank you, AEG.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Those tickets are on the line.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Who is this? Where are you from this morning?
- 21:06Speaker 4: My name's Angie.
- 21:07Speaker 7: I'm calling from Ashburn, Virginia.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Welcome. And for these tickets, your guess is?
- 21:14Speaker 4: Oh, that's an interesting guess. Not even close to the
- 21:18Speaker 4: actual answer.
- 21:20Speaker 7: Sorry.
- 21:22Speaker 2: But thanks for playing this morning. Try again tomorrow.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Please.
- 21:26Speaker 6: Okay.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Unless, of course, our voice annoys you, in which case, well,
- 21:30Speaker 2: you know.
- 21:31Speaker 5: No, it's okay.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Have a great day today. Thank you, ma'am. And who
- 21:35Speaker 2: is this? Where are you from?
- 21:36Speaker 5: I'm Isaac Tarlock, and I'm from Baltimore.
- 21:39Speaker 2: What's up there, Isaac? Fire away with your guests.
- 21:42Speaker 5: My guess is how they text you.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Oh, how they text you.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 21:48Speaker 4: If it's too much, maybe they don't text you back
- 21:50Speaker 4: in time. Their texting habits. That is a really interesting
- 21:54Speaker 4: guess coming from a kid. But no, my dear, it
- 21:59Speaker 4: is not the answer.
- 22:00Speaker 3: However, thank you for trying and try again tomorrow. We
- 22:04Speaker 3: encourage you to do so.
- 22:06Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 22:06Speaker 2: You're welcome. Have a good day today. Learn a lot
- 22:09Speaker 2: at school. Be good for your teachers.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Is this Darlene from Damascus?
- 22:13Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Well, good morning and welcome back. We love hearing from you.
- 22:17Speaker 3: You've got the question for these tickets to see the
- 22:19Speaker 3: great Teddy Swims, Capital One Arena, October 13th, thanks to AEG.
- 22:23Speaker 2: What is your guess?
- 22:24Speaker 1: My guess was based on their social media. Ooh, yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 4: You can learn a lot about a person from their
- 22:33Speaker 4: Facebook profile, Instagram and such. Mm-hmm.
- 22:37Speaker 5: I agree.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I check it all the time.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Do you? You creep on some people? You stalk them?
- 22:43Speaker 4: You judge them?
- 22:44Speaker 1: Sure.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Sure. Well, 57% of people admit they judge someone based
- 22:51Speaker 4: on their social media profile. So that means you're correct.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Which means you're going to go see Teddy Swim's Capital
- 22:59Speaker 3: One Arena October 13th.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Wow, even better.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Awesome. Well, you have a great day. Enjoy the show.
- 23:04Speaker 3: We've got more tickets tomorrow morning with another round of
- 23:07Speaker 3: your Nearly Impossible question.
- 23:09Speaker 2: You have fun for us while you're there, okay? I
- 23:12Speaker 2: promise I will.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Now, coming up with Toby and Chili in the morning
- 23:16Speaker 3: in just a minute.
- 23:17Speaker 4: We have a listener named Becca who wants to know
- 23:19Speaker 4: if she was a jerk for skipping out on her
- 23:21Speaker 4: own birthday party.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Why would she do that?
- 23:25Speaker 3: We'll find out and you can offer her some advice
- 23:27Speaker 3: when you hear the story at 866-927-4361. Don't go too far.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Toby and Chili in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 23:37Speaker 3: If you ever find yourself faced with the dilemma and
- 23:40Speaker 3: you're a little bit concerned that you might have come
- 23:43Speaker 3: across wrong, call us and we'll help you find your way.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Or we'll just tell you that maybe you were kind
- 23:49Speaker 3: of a jerk for whatever you might have done.
- 23:51Speaker 2: It is 97.1 Wash FM at 866-927-4361. Hanging on the
- 23:52Speaker 2: line right now. She's from Alexandria. Who's this?
- 24:01Speaker 1: Hi, this is Becca.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Welcome and good morning.
- 24:04Speaker 4: What is on your mind?
- 24:06Speaker 6: OK, well, I want to know if I'm a jerk
- 24:08Speaker 6: or not, because I told my boyfriend almost two years
- 24:12Speaker 6: that I hate surprise parties. I don't want to be
- 24:16Speaker 6: the focus of one. I don't want to be asked
- 24:18Speaker 6: to attend one. And a couple of weeks ago for
- 24:22Speaker 6: my birthday, he threw me one and I caught wind
- 24:25Speaker 6: of it. And I proved the point by not showing up.
- 24:29Speaker 4: So you chose not to go to a party in
- 24:31Speaker 4: your honor.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Blew it off.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Yeah. So then how can we help you?
- 24:35Speaker 6: So am I a jerk? Because I told him verbatim
- 24:38Speaker 6: that if he ever threw me a surprise party, that
- 24:41Speaker 6: I would make an example out of him and not
- 24:44Speaker 6: show up.
- 24:44Speaker 4: What were the reasons you gave him for not wanting
- 24:47Speaker 4: to be surprised.
- 24:47Speaker 2: That you're a control freak?
- 24:49Speaker 6: I don't want to be surprised.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I want to know what I'm walking into. I want
- 24:52Speaker 1: to rest for the occasion.
- 24:53Speaker 2: OK, those are all valid points.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Listen, I totally get why you're upset with your boyfriend
- 24:58Speaker 4: because he literally disrespected your wishes. However, by not going
- 25:02Speaker 4: to that party, you also inconvenienced a bunch of friends involved.
- 25:06Speaker 4: family who showed up there for you.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Yeah it's kind of like disrespecting them when you think
- 25:11Speaker 3: about it two wrongs don't make a right here.
- 25:14Speaker 8: You know you could have really laid it into him
- 25:16Speaker 8: after the fact right you could have held your fire
- 25:20Speaker 8: until y'all got home and then you could have been
- 25:21Speaker 8: like you're sleeping on the couch dog that's what we
- 25:24Speaker 8: think and we'll be happy to put this to the
- 25:27Speaker 8: class Becca in Alexandria wants to know if she's a
- 25:31Speaker 8: jerk for blowing off her own surprise party.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Thoughts, 866-927-4361. Becca, hang on the line. We'll let you
- 25:39Speaker 3: know what the class thinks coming up.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Okay, thank you.
- 25:43Speaker 3: And stay there because right around 810, we got the news.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Top stories at the top of the hour. What can
- 25:48Speaker 3: we expect, Julie?
- 25:49Speaker 4: Maryland drivers who have out-of-state plates are out of time
- 25:53Speaker 4: to make the switch. I've got the latest on that
- 25:55Speaker 4: coming up in just a few minutes.
- 25:58Speaker 3: What you got planned the morning of October 10th. We
- 26:01Speaker 3: would love for you to join us. 97.1 Wash FM,
- 26:04Speaker 3: Washington's variety from the 80s, 90s of today. We'll tell
- 26:08Speaker 3: you in the morning.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Now, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and that's
- 26:12Speaker 4: why we want you to Be with us for the
- 26:14Speaker 4: Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk on October 10th
- 26:18Speaker 4: at National Harbor, sponsored by Mattress Warehouse.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Come on down, be a part of it.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Maybe even join our team, washfm.com slash pink for the 411.
- 26:28Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 26:36Speaker 1: top of the hour.
- 26:37Speaker 4: The president says he and tech leaders are renaming artificial
- 26:41Speaker 4: intelligence super intelligence. I've got the latest on that story
- 26:45Speaker 4: and others coming up. With Toby and Chili in the
- 26:48Speaker 4: morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 26:56Speaker 4: The president says he and tech leaders are renaming artificial
- 27:00Speaker 4: intelligence superintelligence. He made the announcement yesterday after a White
- 27:05Speaker 4: House AI summit with top CEOs. Former special counsel Jack
- 27:10Speaker 4: Smith defended his investigations of the president before the Senate
- 27:13Speaker 4: Judiciary Committee. Smith said that he followed the law in
- 27:17Speaker 4: the election interference and classified documents cases. while Republicans accused
- 27:21Speaker 4: him of unethical and, in some cases, illegal tactics. Power
- 27:26Speaker 4: is back at a WSSC water treatment plant, but nearly
- 27:30Speaker 4: 2 million customers in Prince George's and Montgomery counties are
- 27:33Speaker 4: still being asked to limit their water use. And that
- 27:36Speaker 4: means going easy on flushing, laundry, and the dishwasher until
- 27:41Speaker 4: further notice. Fairfax County's newest high school, Skyview, is getting
- 27:46Speaker 4: a real quantum computer this December with students starting hands-on
- 27:50Speaker 4: work next spring. FCPS says that it will be the
- 27:53Speaker 4: first K-12 school division in the world with a working
- 27:57Speaker 4: quantum computer for students.
- 27:59Speaker 5: D.C.
- 28:00Speaker 4: 's paid family leave is getting smaller tomorrow. Family leave
- 28:04Speaker 4: will drop from 12 weeks to just six. Medical leave
- 28:08Speaker 4: falls to 10 weeks. And the weekly benefit maxes out
- 28:12Speaker 4: at $ 1, 100. Maryland drivers who have out-of-state plates are out
- 28:18Speaker 4: of time to make the switch. Starting tomorrow, owners will
- 28:22Speaker 4: get a 60-day warning and then fines of $ 7 a
- 28:25Speaker 4: day up to $ 420. And finally, when is the first
- 28:30Speaker 4: time you say a bad word every day? Well, apparently
- 28:33Speaker 4: the average American slips up around 10.54 in the morning
- 28:38Speaker 4: and one in four cracks a swear word before 9 a.m.
- 28:43Speaker 4: And you can blame the usual stress, you know, money worries,
- 28:45Speaker 4: too little sleep, and work. Forecast for today. Partly cloudy
- 28:50Speaker 4: skies with highs near 80. Right now, 61 in Stafford.
- 28:53Speaker 2: And that's the news.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Remember, tell five friends you get your top stories at
- 28:58Speaker 3: the top of the hour with 97.1 Wash FM.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 29:04Speaker 8: All right.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Becca from Alexandria blew off her own surprise party. She's
- 29:10Speaker 3: hanging on the line, wants to know if you think
- 29:13Speaker 3: she's a jerk for it or not so much. Got thoughts?
- 29:21Speaker 2: 866-927-4361.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Our conversation with her continues in minutes. Toby and Chili
- 29:26Speaker 3: in the morning at 97.1 Wash FM. If you've got
- 29:30Speaker 3: thoughts on this whole situation, jump in at 866-927-4361. Now,
- 29:36Speaker 3: just to recap, we were talking to Becca from Alexandria.
- 29:40Speaker 4: She wants to know if she was a jerk for
- 29:41Speaker 4: skipping her own surprise birthday party. She said her boyfriend
- 29:45Speaker 4: threw one for her. Even after she told him, I
- 29:49Speaker 4: don't want any surprises to teach him a lesson.
- 29:53Speaker 3: And they've been dating for a minute, like two years,
- 29:55Speaker 3: she said. So you would think he might have gotten
- 29:57Speaker 3: the memo, but apparently no. So you have some thoughts
- 30:01Speaker 3: this morning in Damascus there, big Chris.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Welcome. What's up? Yeah, I think she's a jerk.
- 30:07Speaker 6: If you know about the party and that it's happening,
- 30:09Speaker 6: a bunch of people are going out of their way
- 30:11Speaker 6: for you, you know, just to do something really nice
- 30:14Speaker 6: for you.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Yeah, that makes you a pretty big jerk.
- 30:17Speaker 2: That just stings to hear you say it that way.
- 30:20Speaker 4: You're thinking she should have just been grateful for the effort?
- 30:23Speaker 6: Definitely.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Some people would love a surprise party and never.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Get one, so.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Yes, but there are also people who prefer not to
- 30:31Speaker 4: be surprised. And she's one of them.
- 30:33Speaker 1: There were things for sure.
- 30:35Speaker 3: All right, Chris, you have spoken. Thank you for your
- 30:39Speaker 3: thoughts this morning in Damascus.
- 30:40Speaker 5: You bet.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Over to Petworth, Liana.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Oh, God, this is so.
- 30:44Speaker 7: Rough because he had good intentions, but she told him,
- 30:48Speaker 7: she told him, she told him. So at the end
- 30:50Speaker 7: of the day, she told him she's not.
- 30:52Speaker 4: You're saying she's not a jerk for skipping her own
- 30:55Speaker 4: surprise party?
- 30:56Speaker 7: Some people just don't like that. They have anxiety and
- 30:59Speaker 7: all that kind of stuff.
- 31:00Speaker 1: No, she's not a jerk.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Not even a little bit because, you know, it was
- 31:05Speaker 3: a very nice gesture.
- 31:07Speaker 4: And she could have gone to the party and then
- 31:09Speaker 4: chewed him out afterwards.
- 31:10Speaker 7: No, because at the end of the day, if she
- 31:12Speaker 7: told him and he didn't listen, she showed him better
- 31:15Speaker 7: than she could tell him.
- 31:17Speaker 5: Mm-hmm. Well....
- 31:20Speaker 4: I'm sure you're not the only one who feels that way.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Thanks for sharing.
- 31:22Speaker 2: That's right.
- 31:23Speaker 6: All right.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Becca, are you listening to all of this?
- 31:26Speaker 4: Especially what Liana just said.
- 31:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I think everyone learned their lesson, and I appreciate
- 31:32Speaker 6: you asking your audience because I feel venerated.
- 31:36Speaker 2: As you should.
- 31:37Speaker 3: And the moral of the story today with Toby and
- 31:40Speaker 3: Chili in the morning is don't throw surprise parties for
- 31:42Speaker 3: people who have made it clear they don't want them.
- 31:45Speaker 2: We hope that helps, Becca.
- 31:47Speaker 6: Thank you. Thank you so much.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Over two hours commercial-free music on. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Toby and Chili in the morning in Alexandria.
- 31:56Speaker 2: They're making some history tonight.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Alexandria City High School's first-ever girls flag football team will
- 32:04Speaker 4: play its first games under the lights at Parker Gray Stadium.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Justice.
- 32:09Speaker 3: They're taking on Justice at 7. Then they're taking on
- 32:12Speaker 3: Falls Church at 8. Two games, one night. And years
- 32:17Speaker 3: from now, these girls are going to be like, remember when?
- 32:21Speaker 3: Good luck, ladies. It's 97.1 Wash FM. There are going
- 32:25Speaker 3: to be some wiener dogs running around the wharf this weekend.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Toby and Chili in the morning with two hours of
- 32:30Speaker 3: commercial-free music on 97.1 Wash FM. Here's what you need
- 32:34Speaker 3: to know.
- 32:34Speaker 4: The Wiener 500 kicks off Oktoberfest on District Pier this
- 32:39Speaker 4: Saturday at 2 p.m. And all the proceeds benefit the
- 32:43Speaker 4: Rural Dog Rescue.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Run, little wiener dogs, run.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Tilly and I would like to thank you for listening
- 32:50Speaker 3: to us this Wednesday morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Over
- 32:54Speaker 3: two hours of commercial-free music on with us, Toby and Tilly,
- 32:58Speaker 3: in the morning.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Now, before Sabrina Conte comes in here to fill in
- 33:02Speaker 4: for Jenny Chase, we do want to leave you with
- 33:04Speaker 4: a quote to get you into a good morning mindset
- 33:06Speaker 4: on this hump day.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Remember what Sarah Blakely says today. Failure is not the outcome.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Failure is not trying. Keep that in mind today. And remember,
- 33:17Speaker 3: maybe the thing you're worried won't work, won't. That's okay.
- 33:21Speaker 3: You'll figure it out.
