Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:13Speaker 1: of Long Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:16Speaker 1: And today we are doing a Summer Night's preview episode
- 0:21Speaker 1: taking a look at the movies coming in what we
- 0:23Speaker 1: believe will be the first half of the Summer Nights
- 0:26Speaker 1: series on the Hallmark Channel. We have five movies to
- 0:31Speaker 1: take a look at today, and based on past experiences,
- 0:36Speaker 1: we will have a break from Summer Nights with Christmas
- 0:39Speaker 1: in July. If you use the Hallmark Countdown to Christmas app,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you can currently vote on which movies you would like
- 0:45Speaker 1: to see premiere, which I feel like is Hallmark letting
- 0:47Speaker 1: you do the work for them, and maybe we know
- 0:50Speaker 1: that they have not decided on that lineup, and if
- 0:54Speaker 1: past experiences prove true, we will get a second half
- 0:58Speaker 1: of Summer Nights in August. We do not know anything
- 1:01Speaker 1: about the movie yet. However, we do know that Holly
- 1:04Speaker 1: Robinson Pete is in the movie this summer, and we
- 1:06Speaker 1: don't have anything about it yet, so I'm going to
- 1:08Speaker 1: assume that's coming in August, in late summer, late summer Nights,
- 1:12Speaker 1: late summer night. Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about the five. It is five, right,
- 1:19Speaker 2: mm hmmm that they have released information on not a
- 1:23Speaker 2: ton of information.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Indeed.
- 1:25Speaker 2: First up is Hidden Gems, which premieres Saturday, June fourth
- 1:29Speaker 2: on Hallmark Channel. I saw a commercial for it, as
- 1:33Speaker 2: did I this past weekend. I don't have high hopes
- 1:36Speaker 2: for it.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I was not impressed.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Do you want me to read the synopsis?
- 1:38Speaker 1: I do.
- 1:40Speaker 2: While prepping for her sister's wedding, Addie loses her grandmother's
- 1:45Speaker 2: ring in the waters of Hawaii. She hires sailor Jack
- 1:49Speaker 2: to scuba dive with her to find it and rediscovers
- 1:52Speaker 2: her love of the sea starring Hunter King and Bo
- 1:56Speaker 2: mirkof okay Uh.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Reading that this is her grandmother's ring makes it especially
- 2:03Speaker 1: offensive that he sells her a Hawaiian sea turtle tchotchkey
- 2:08Speaker 1: as a replacement placeholder while they are looking for it.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah, because while I understand that the hanu, the sea turtle,
- 2:16Speaker 1: has significance in Hawaiian culture, I also am certain that
- 2:19Speaker 1: there are quite lovely jewelry stores on the Hawaiian islands
- 2:23Speaker 1: where they could have found something that would work better
- 2:26Speaker 1: than this tourist trap souvenir. Yes, yeah, yeah, Hunter King
- 2:33Speaker 1: is known for soaps. She's been on Young and the Restless,
- 2:37Speaker 1: currently is on Young and Restless and another one I
- 2:41Speaker 1: can't remember. I'm pulling from memory. I want to call it.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Like The Bold and the Beautiful. Is that still airing?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Or did I just show my age?
- 2:50Speaker 1: Well, I don't know, but she's been in seven hundred
- 2:53Speaker 1: and sixty six episodes of The Young and the Restless.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Wow, since she was a child, that's a lot of episodes.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You know, they make five episodes a week pretty much
- 3:04Speaker 1: year round, so I don't think it would actually take
- 3:08Speaker 1: that long to get to seven hundred and sixty six.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You are correct that she was also in The Bold
- 3:12Speaker 1: and the Beautiful two episodes in two thousand and one.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Oh oh, oh, I have her showing that she was
- 3:18Speaker 1: in a sitcom. I think it was a sitcom on
- 3:21Speaker 1: CBS called Life and Pieces. It might have been like
- 3:23Speaker 1: a dramaedy drama y, yeah, is that what it's called.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's a family comedy told through the separate stories of
- 3:32Speaker 1: different family members. Now it's no longer on right correct?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Okay?
- 3:38Speaker 1: And Bo Murchoff? Oh did I said his name is Murcoff?
- 3:41Speaker 1: You think it's Murchoff? Nope, I don't know. Okay, Murkoff
- 3:45Speaker 1: sounds better. I he's in Good Trouble, which I loved
- 3:48Speaker 1: the first season of, and then I kind of fell
- 3:50Speaker 1: away in free Form.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched it too. I like the first season.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I just couldn't get into it. After that it was
- 3:58Speaker 2: like whine millennials. I always forget. You're not a millennial,
- 4:04Speaker 2: are you?
- 4:05Speaker 1: I am not, so I take offense to the question
- 4:08Speaker 1: I can remember a legion X.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Okay, all right. He was also in Narcos Mexico, which
- 4:16Speaker 2: I believe is a Netflix shows one my husband watches.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I don't.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I don't get down with the Narcos. It's like a stressful,
- 4:27Speaker 1: breaking bad watch, I think. Next up, we have Caribbean
- 4:31Speaker 1: Summer airing on Saturday, June eleventh on the Hallmark Channel.
- 4:35Speaker 2: It's actually called Caribbean Nights, but get out your press
- 4:40Speaker 2: release is Caribbean Summer.
- 4:42Speaker 1: This is the Crown Media.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it is not wait wait wait.
- 4:48Speaker 1: It's Caribbean Summer on the Hallmark Countdown to Christmas app too.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Hold on a second, so maybe our post is wrong. No, no, no,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I need even pull.
- 4:55Speaker 2: It from the post. I pulled it from Hallmark Channel.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Website. Let me just look, Let me just look. I
- 5:02Speaker 1: have three different instances of it being called Caribbean Summer
- 5:04Speaker 1: in front of me.
- 5:05Speaker 2: What did I call it Caribbean Nights?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Oh?
- 5:09Speaker 2: I might be wrong because I have Caribbean Summer here.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Okay. My money likes to come in hot when she thinks.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And I'm wrong, it's Caribbean Summer.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Okay, So Caribbean Summer stars Heather Hemmens and Sir Darius Blaine.
- 5:25Speaker 1: This was shot entirely on location in Belize. Fancy we
- 5:30Speaker 1: did not mention actually, although it should be pretty obvious
- 5:34Speaker 1: that Hidden Gems was shot on location in Honolulu at
- 5:39Speaker 1: the Kahala Hotel and the resort.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Oh wow, you have a lot of information.
- 5:43Speaker 1: They only have press releases about the first three movies,
- 5:46Speaker 1: so I'm gonna drop off here in a minute. Sir
- 5:49Speaker 1: Darius Blaine is in the Jumanji movies. He plays Fridge.
- 5:52Speaker 1: My family big fans of the Jumanji movies. Actually the
- 5:56Speaker 1: first Jumanji movie, the second not so great, but we
- 6:00Speaker 1: loved the first Jumanji well.
- 6:02Speaker 2: He also played Reggie in The Big Leap, which I watched.
- 6:05Speaker 1: You know I did too, and I as soon as
- 6:08Speaker 1: I read that, I thought, oh, yeah, that's him, but
- 6:10Speaker 1: in my mind as I'm watching, never made the connection
- 6:12Speaker 1: that he was Sae.
- 6:13Speaker 2: He's like the Detroit football player. Hey, let me read
- 6:16Speaker 2: a synopsis for this my bee, Sorry, it's okay. Jade,
- 6:19Speaker 2: a news producer, heads to the Caribbean for a relaxation,
- 6:22Speaker 2: only to follow a victim to a rental scam. Uh oh. Serendipitously,
- 6:28Speaker 2: she befriends the real owner forward and discovers fun and romance.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So she like books something on Airbnb and then gets
- 6:36Speaker 2: there and it's not.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yes, it says her trip gets off to a rocky
- 6:40Speaker 1: start thanks to a snaphoo involving the house she rented
- 6:43Speaker 1: for her stay.
- 6:44Speaker 2: That scares me about Airbnb is actually me too?
- 6:47Speaker 1: Got to read the reviews.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Let's hope that the our Salt Lake City Airbnb is
- 6:51Speaker 2: he has good reviews.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Okay, cool. Maybe they have double booked and now they're
- 6:56Speaker 1: forced to share an Airbnb.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Maybe that yeah, yeah, what do we know about Heather Hemmens.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Heather Hemmens was in Christmas in My Heart in twenty
- 7:09Speaker 1: twenty one. That's not a movie we reviewed for Girls
- 7:12Speaker 1: Gone Hamewark. It is a movie that I watched. She's
- 7:15Speaker 1: musical in that movie. It was actually a sweet movie.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But I believe that is the only thing we have
- 7:23Speaker 1: not girls gone hamewarked Heather hemmens Y.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I see. She's been in a show called Roswell,
- 7:28Speaker 2: New Mexico. M Dad, stop embarrassing me, which I've never
- 7:32Speaker 2: even heard of that show, And then she wasn't a
- 7:34Speaker 2: few episodes of The Yellowstone in twenty eighteen, a show
- 7:37Speaker 2: I do not watch, but everybody tells me I must agree.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I was just going to ask you if you watch,
- 7:41Speaker 2: because people love that, and it's prequel eighteen eighty three
- 7:44Speaker 2: starring Tim McGraw. I don't watch either, do you know?
- 7:47Speaker 1: But my husband and I don't have many shared television shows,
- 7:51Speaker 1: and I think that's one of the few I could
- 7:52Speaker 1: get them on board with. But I'm working on it. Okay,
- 7:59Speaker 1: Yellowstone is set in the present day. Did you know that? Yeah?
- 8:04Speaker 1: I just assumed that it was like a Western, but
- 8:07Speaker 1: it's not.
- 8:08Speaker 2: The cowboys living in Wyoming.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Now. Yeah, do you have a pre impression of this movie?
- 8:15Speaker 2: It doesn't sound terrible. I kind of like the rental
- 8:20Speaker 2: scam situation. I like the actor me too. Darius Blaine.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So it's got a real cute smile. I think you
- 8:28Speaker 1: could sell me.
- 8:28Speaker 2: It's quite charming. Yeah, so this is this one looks
- 8:33Speaker 2: better than Hidden Gems to me cautiously optimistic.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Now. Next, yes, we have a movie that is not
- 8:40Speaker 1: actually in the Summer Nights lineup, although it is airing
- 8:43Speaker 1: in June. It is a bonus original. We have Color
- 8:49Speaker 1: My World with Love, which premieres Sunday, June twelfth, on
- 8:53Speaker 1: Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. Would you like to read a synopsis?
- 8:57Speaker 2: I will, but first I want to note that Hallmark
- 8:59Speaker 2: Movies and Mysteries has had really good movies this year. Yes,
- 9:03Speaker 2: stop burying the really good movies on Hallmarks Movies and Mysteries. Well,
- 9:06Speaker 2: I guess it doesn't really matter. But a lot of
- 9:08Speaker 2: people don't have that channel.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Do you think you just get Hallmark and not hmm.
- 9:13Speaker 2: If you're a super huge Hamewark fan, you probably pay
- 9:16Speaker 2: for both. But I know mine is like an upgrade
- 9:19Speaker 2: to Act.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Oh good to know.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Here's the synopsis. Emma's daughter, Kendall becomes engaged, but Emma
- 9:28Speaker 2: is concerned as Kendall and her fiance have down syndrome,
- 9:32Speaker 2: and Emma worries she's not ready to take the steps.
- 9:36Speaker 1: That's all it says. So I have a longer synopsis.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Tell me it's a little more, he says. Emma has
- 9:43Speaker 1: spent the last twenty two years trying to protect her
- 9:45Speaker 1: daughter and has reservations about Kendall and Brad's new relationship,
- 9:49Speaker 1: especially when it moves quickly in a serious direction. Not
- 9:52Speaker 1: wanting Kendall to experience heartbreak, Emma tries to slow things
- 9:55Speaker 1: down with the help of Nick played by Benjamin Ayirs,
- 9:59Speaker 1: a long time family friend of Brad's. Emma slowly accepts
- 10:03Speaker 1: that Kendall is ready to and should live her own life.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I suspect that we're going to get a dual love
- 10:11Speaker 1: story in this movie.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Oh you think between Kendall and the friend Benjamin Benjamin Airs. Now,
- 10:17Speaker 2: I just love that Benjamin Airs. I know you do.
- 10:20Speaker 1: He was in you, Me and the Christmas Trees, and
- 10:23Speaker 1: I am a ben fan for life.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah. She rallied hard to get his name on our
- 10:28Speaker 2: Dudes of Hallmark T shirt and he.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Is, isn't he He is? Yeah, Yeah, you're welcome, Benjamin.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I feel like this has touches of and I can't
- 10:37Speaker 2: remember the name of the show, but it was a
- 10:39Speaker 2: show that was on Network TV when we were children teenagers.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Patty Lapone was in it, Kelly Martin was in it. Wow,
- 10:50Speaker 2: these are coming our house and backfiles back here.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I know what you're talking about.
- 10:56Speaker 2: People are screaming right now listening to Life Goes On
- 10:59Speaker 2: goes On?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Ya what it was?
- 11:00Speaker 2: And I had like the Beatles song was like the yeah, yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 2: du yeah. I feel like it's touches of that that was.
- 11:07Speaker 2: This story has been told in that show. Don't you believe.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Parents not being ready to let their child live alone
- 11:16Speaker 1: having some reservations about what that might look like. We
- 11:19Speaker 1: had Corky and Life goes On.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Yes. Now, my one wish for this show is that
- 11:25Speaker 1: Hallmark gives it a better treatment than then gave the
- 11:27Speaker 1: recent heart of the matter. And I think obviously we're
- 11:30Speaker 1: headed in the right direction because we have actors with
- 11:33Speaker 1: down syndrome playing characters with down cinder.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Yes, including Lily D. Moore who plays Kendall. She plays
- 11:40Speaker 2: Rebecca in the Netflix show Never Have I Ever? And dang,
- 11:44Speaker 2: she's so funny in that show.
- 11:46Speaker 1: So funny. That's a great show. If you haven't watched it,
- 11:48Speaker 1: it's a great summer show to just binge in. Season
- 11:51Speaker 1: three comes out in August twenty twenty two, so there's
- 11:54Speaker 1: another recommendation from US.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Next up is Mariah's Lighthouse Saturday, June eighteenth, on Homework Channel.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Moriah And every time I see the name Moriah, I
- 12:07Speaker 2: have to say it in my head first, because it's
- 12:10Speaker 2: not Mariah. You know. Moriah is a wood working artisan
- 12:15Speaker 2: living in a French seaside town who dreams of restoring
- 12:18Speaker 2: a local lighthouse, but then an American architect who comes
- 12:22Speaker 2: to town may derail her plans. Starring twilights. What's her name,
- 12:29Speaker 2: Rachelle La Fever, the Fever lafiv.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I think it's and Honky Link McFarlane.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Okay, guess where this movie was filmed?
- 12:41Speaker 2: France?
- 12:41Speaker 1: In France? No really? Yes?
- 12:44Speaker 2: Wow?
- 12:46Speaker 1: IMDb told me so, But you know, IMDb maybe not
- 12:49Speaker 1: always to be trusted. So I did a little additional searching.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It appears to actually have been filmed on location in France.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I'm really surprised it wasn't filmed in Canada. Same really surprised.
- 13:01Speaker 1: It was based on a novel, Mariah's Lighthouse by Serena Miller.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You can get that novel on Amazon for two ninety
- 13:08Speaker 1: nine in the kindle version right now?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Is it a Hallmark published book or now?
- 13:13Speaker 1: No? Oh? Rachelle, as Wendy mentioned, played bad vampire Victoria
- 13:19Speaker 1: in the Twilight series.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I never watched this, you know that, right.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I never read those books either. I read them, I
- 13:24Speaker 1: watched them, No shame, I loved them. But she's very
- 13:28Speaker 1: memorable as Victoria. In my mind, that's who she will
- 13:31Speaker 1: always be. So maybe she can erase those bad vampire vibes.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You know, we love Luke McFarlane. Probably his all time
- 13:41Speaker 1: best role will be taking a shot at Love for Me.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, And I think mostly because that movie
- 13:49Speaker 2: was one of the not one of the first we watched,
- 13:52Speaker 2: but one of the first non Christmas movies we watched
- 13:55Speaker 2: as Girls Gone Hallmark, and it stands out to me
- 13:58Speaker 2: as being like one of the better ones.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And I think it was one of the first you
- 14:03Speaker 1: loved because we watched a lot of stinkers in Christmas
- 14:07Speaker 1: twenty twenty carrying of Christmas twenty twenty, and it solidified
- 14:11Speaker 1: our love for Julie Sherman, Wolf and the writer. It
- 14:15Speaker 1: has a soft spot in our hearts Finally, finally, and
- 14:20Speaker 1: this one got the most press over the last couple
- 14:24Speaker 1: of weeks. It's Two Tickets to Paradise Saturday, June and
- 14:27Speaker 1: twenty fifth on Hallmark Channel. Let me read this synopsis
- 14:31Speaker 1: for you. When two weddings are ruined by both the
- 14:35Speaker 1: bride and groom getting left at the altar, they still
- 14:39Speaker 1: decide to take their honeymoons, not knowing they are heading
- 14:43Speaker 1: to the same resort in Hawaii. Stars Ashley Williams and
- 14:47Speaker 1: Ryan Pavey wanted to see if Ashley Williams husband is
- 14:53Speaker 1: attached as a producer or director, and he is, according
- 14:58Speaker 1: to him to be not currently attached. So oh, this
- 15:01Speaker 1: has been I think highly promoted. It's I would say,
- 15:06Speaker 1: the anchor movie in the Summer Nights June movie. Would
- 15:10Speaker 1: you not agree?
- 15:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's It just seems kind of weird
- 15:15Speaker 2: looking at it as a whole, and I'm going to
- 15:18Speaker 2: take color my World with Love out of it because
- 15:21Speaker 2: that's like a bonus original, right. Two Tickets to Paradise
- 15:24Speaker 2: is probably the standout of the bunch because I think
- 15:28Speaker 2: it has the biggest names in it, obviously, and that's
- 15:31Speaker 2: why it's getting the most press. I don't know if
- 15:34Speaker 2: I'm that totally excited.
- 15:36Speaker 1: For it though. No, I just I'm taking you out
- 15:39Speaker 1: of it.
- 15:41Speaker 2: First of all, Ashley Williams and Ryan Pavee are on
- 15:44Speaker 2: opposite ends of the spectrum for me energy wise. Energy wise, yes, Ashley.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Williams very bubbly.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I quite enjoy her. Ryan Pavey I like him as
- 15:55Speaker 2: an actor, but he's kind of stiff, uh huh. And
- 15:57Speaker 2: so I just don't know if I see those to
- 16:00Speaker 2: working out well together.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I have questions about what their chemistry is going to be,
- 16:05Speaker 1: like is she gonna bring him up? Is he gonna
- 16:07Speaker 1: bring her down? Are they gonna be mismatched? I really
- 16:11Speaker 1: like Ashley Williams. Like you said, my husband is doing
- 16:14Speaker 1: a rewatch of How I Met your Mother and she
- 16:16Speaker 1: plays one of Ted's ex's girlfriends, and I just enjoyed
- 16:20Speaker 1: seeing her on screen. This again was filmed on location
- 16:24Speaker 1: in Hawaii, so we take a big break from from
- 16:28Speaker 1: Vancouver this summer.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Canada's like GTFO, we don't watch you here this summer.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I'm just kidding. I'm sure they love having movies made.
- 16:38Speaker 1: There, but there's some major tax break to doing it.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I don't know what it is But these island beachy
- 16:45Speaker 1: set movies, like the Hawaiian movies don't really get me excited.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I know you had me at Aloha, remember that movie.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah it was okay, there was some funny moments in
- 16:57Speaker 2: it if I recall uh huh, But why is it
- 17:01Speaker 2: Because they say very like narrow in their It's like
- 17:06Speaker 2: they're gonna take a hula class. Oh oh, they're gonna
- 17:10Speaker 2: drink from a coconut. So it's very stereotypical Hawaiian.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I just and it's unfair because I haven't seen this movie.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I don't know what they're gonna do. I just think
- 17:23Speaker 1: that in the way that we play Hallmark Christmas movie
- 17:25Speaker 1: Bingo and we can you know what's the hot drink
- 17:28Speaker 1: of choice gonna be, and who's gonna wear the cookie
- 17:31Speaker 1: Christmas sweater and all of these things, I think we
- 17:34Speaker 1: could probably play Island Hallmark movie Bingo in much the
- 17:39Speaker 1: same way.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I don't know why it is because it's fun to
- 17:42Speaker 1: look at, but I don't necessarily get excited. Now if
- 17:46Speaker 1: you tell me you're filming on Nantucket, and I don't
- 17:49Speaker 1: mean fake Nantucket like they've done, like take me to
- 17:51Speaker 1: actual Nantucket, I get down with that Island vibe more
- 17:57Speaker 1: than a Hawaiian vibe. Don't know why felt that way
- 18:00Speaker 1: about last year we had several island movies.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Why don't we get any Nantucket movies in the summertime? Like,
- 18:06Speaker 2: I haven't seen one. Are there Nantucket summer movies?
- 18:10Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to that. Let's do Hallmark.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I would like a I would like a Nantucket summer movie.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I would like a Hampton summer movie.
- 18:21Speaker 1: The only thing that comes up is Nantucket no Well,
- 18:22Speaker 1: which we know was not filmed in Nantucket. It starred
- 18:25Speaker 1: Trevor Donovan. It was freaking terrible, and then Trevor Donovan
- 18:29Speaker 1: bounced and went to gag. So don't let the door
- 18:32Speaker 1: hit you. Someone adapt an Elan Hildebrand I think it's
- 18:36Speaker 1: Ellen ellen Hildebrand novel into a Hallmark movie.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Why are they not doing that?
