- 0:03SPEAKER_00: And guess what our next holiday is?
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Your favorite.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Halloween! Guess what my favorite thing about Halloween is?
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: The decorations.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: The scary.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: The candy! The movies.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Well, I was thinking I was thinking vampire dick for a minute, but nah.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Need to watch The Lost Boys.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: I did buy my first Halloween decoration of this year.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: A little scary spooky clown.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: We gotta put a picture of him.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Maybe take a video because he is too cute.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: This clown is too cute.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: I don't like scary clowns, but there's something cute and comical and fun about this one that I just had to have.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: We were at a restaurant over the weekend called Real Taco.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Delicious food, by the way.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Outstanding.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Their whole um menu is done up for Halloween.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Their drink menu is done up for Halloween.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm concerned about.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: The drinks.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: What are some of the names of it?
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: I had a Black Widow margarita, and I'm telling you, it was black.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Even the salt was black.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: And then it had like a little dead flower in it, a plastic spider, which was adorable.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: My mom got some soft syrupkin something.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: We all tasted it and it was really good.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: It came with a little ghost and a shovel to eat with.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: So cute.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: I have those in my purse to give to you.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: So you have a little shovel spoon to add to your collection.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Yay! Anyway, the whole restaurant from the moment you pull up in the parking lot, the outside of it's decorated.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Just outrageous from the ceiling to the walls to everywhere you look.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: And there's body parts hanging from the ceiling and you know, witches' hats, and I mean just stuff everywhere.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Spooky stuff when you go to the bathroom down the hallway.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: So I won't I won't go into all the details, but I do have photos.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: You know, stuff was like whink, it wants to scare you a little bit.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Luckily, uh, we were warned ahead of time.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: I didn't piss my pants.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Being scared, walk around the corner, but it's fun to do.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: The place is so decked out.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I saw the clown, had to have one.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: I looked it up.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: They're just so happened to be a$15 coupon.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: You know, a girl loves coupons.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: So according to my girl Matt, I did really well.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: So I was so happy.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: So we'll have to post uh pictures of the place.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I took some pictures while we were there.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Of course, we'll take a video of the clown and post him.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: So much fun.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Are we naming him?
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have to name him.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: He's gonna have to have a name.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna have to let you play with him a little bit and see what Ollie does.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: For you to uh help name him.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: But oh my god, it's the cutest little thing I ever seen in my life.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: So that was a blast.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Uh highly recommend uh real taco anytime.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think their food's delicious, especially around Halloween.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Of course, all of us are like Brennanese coming here, Brennanese, see this.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Can I have a drink?
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I'm all about that.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: We could just go to this one that's close by, sit at the bar, and just marble.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: All the decorations and entertainment.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: That sounds perfect.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: It sounds lovely.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: We'll have to do it.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: I know we have a movie date planned soon for me and you, and then we can uh always go there for a cocktail and enjoy the ambiance.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Yes, Halloween stuff's just like a turn-on.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: I know you love it.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: You might find the man of your dreams, all the employees were dressed up adorable.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Everybody was just into it.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: It was so cool.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Um, but the thing that we're into for Halloween, year-round.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: We've already talked about my love of candy corn, and I really only want it maybe around the middle of September, towards the end of September.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Because it's all of October, and then by November, I need it to start drifting away.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Candy corn from the middle of September to about the middle of November is my love language.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: And we're out of it.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Just candy corn.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: I'm love with candy corn.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Well, at work we've been doing vintage candy, and I start thinking about candy that I loved as a kid.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: And where is it?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Where did it go?
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Some of it's still out there.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Some of it is still there, like lemon heads.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Yes, you can buy those.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Love the lemon heads, the Boston baked beans.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: I love those, but I just don't ever think to get them.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Where are they?
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Probably the Dollar Tree.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Um, I have to look.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: That's my guess.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: I know I'm gonna have to go look at all their candy someday, and it takes some time and poke around in there.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Instead of describing all junior mints or all dark chocolate raisinettes.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: So usually we're just like scarfing tons of those into our bathrooms.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: It's like we're creatures of habit, I think, and we know what we like.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So we go in and get what we like in abundance.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Candy corn.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Do you remember the tiny size little chiclets?
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: They came in a little yellow bag and they were kind of neon colored.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: I love those.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And uh my mom would be like make them last, and I would dump the whole thing in my mouth.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Because they only tasted as long as you two once you got them chewed up, they were.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Like two chews.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: But man, it was good, those first few chews.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I know, that's all you got out of it.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: And then it was like, mm-hmm, you had to spit it out because then it was just hurting her jaw.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, this picture I'm looking at says cherry taffy, peanut butter center.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: See, that's why I was saying, like, I don't think I remember that one.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Throw that reverse, it says chewy.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Cut.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: That's a cut.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: No wonder.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I don't remember it being cherry.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Since we uh Oh, oh, you do have your glasses on.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: That's the problem.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at this, I guess.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: It says chew.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Because I was like, who's that?
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Alright, in case we do throw that in reverse.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Do you remember Annabella's Abba Zabba chewy taffy peanut butter?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: It does sound good.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: It sounds like something that I would eat, but I just I don't remember that one.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Um I remember my mom getting those.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I think she'd get them and that'd be her stash.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Like it was more of an adult candy.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Back to the bubble gum.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Remember hubba Bubba?
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: That was only good for a little while.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Is that the one that claimed that didn't stick to your face?
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Remember there was one they said you could blow bubbles that didn't stick to your face?
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I know I thought the hubba bubba.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking about the one that comes in.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I loved hubba.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: The ones that came, it was like a chew bag and it was stringy gum.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: It was called big chew, I think.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: It was supposed to look like dip or chewing tobacco.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, who wanted their kid?
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: But I was allowed to chew it.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: And then candy cigarettes.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, can you imagine if you saw a little kid today running around with a candy cigarette?
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: We were just talking about that.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Them kids were puffing.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: They were hot shit.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Be a paw.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: They were little girls holding them up looking like little hoes, like Virginia Slims or something.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I was not a little girl and I wasn't a hoe.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I did them too.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Ate them.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Can you imagine a parent in the world today that would buy their kid a candy?
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Saying, here, pretend to smoke.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Can you imagine?
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: They weren't that tasty.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Did they taste like the lickem sticks?
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: They were more like a chalk texture.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: They just didn't taste good.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Here eat some chalk.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't think I ever ate chalk, but I imagine if if you licked a chalkboard, that would be like what they taste.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: I don't think I've ever tasted chalk.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: I don't think I have either, but I said it tastes like chalk.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: But I could see one in the texture of it.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: You can.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: There's something about that that I want to bite into it now.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Oh God.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: What about chuckles?
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Do you remember chuckles?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: There were like six of them in a package.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I always called them airport candy because anytime my dad went to the airport to go see a son or something like that, I would get chuckles.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: That was the thing.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: So I always thought they were just airport candy.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: But then one Halloween, they had chuckles like individually wrapped.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: So and you didn't know what flavor you're gonna get.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the middle one is black.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I just pulled up a picture.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: So you always had that licorice flavored.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: No, nope, no.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: I would have never done that because the second I smelled licorice, I would be look turned off.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: But you'll smoke chalk.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm not a fan of like the black jelly beans.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Or anything like that.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: No.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Oh, the safety pops.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: What happened to those?
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: Did we stop caring if our kids were safe or not?
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Their little round thing, the cardboard thing.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you had to.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: It's stuck up in there.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: So there wasn't a stick coming out of the end.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: That's funny.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Because it still looks like a choking hazard if you didn't monitor the situation.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: There's your candy cigarette.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: What's it actually say?
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Back when everyone smoked, these probably seemed like a pretty great idea.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: I'm actually on country living.com looking up retro candy.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, now I had these, the Astropop.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Love those.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, those were really good.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you could sit there and suck that in till it was like a sword.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: You could really tear somebody up with it.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Or poke themselves.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, I was asking you about these earlier, the candy buttons.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Do you remember you ate more paper than candy?
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: I don't think those tasted very well either.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: They were probably like slowly but surely trying to kill us back in the day with candy.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, I think they tasted more like the colored dye.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Like chemicals.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: Well chemicals.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: I taste yellow.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: That's probably why they were making that.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: It was probably that red dye that really tore you up.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: I ate them.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: I would pick off like 200 of them.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: So I'd have a big fistful, so then you know you're getting some paper.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Did you like the Charleston chews?
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: I see a picture of them.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: They had smaller ones of those, too.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: I like smaller ones of that.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: That was kind of a marshmallowy thing in the middle, wouldn't it?
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Look how expensive those are.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I wonder if you have to get on like eBay or something for that now.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: It says the chocolate-covered nougat bars were named after the Charleston dance, not the Southern City, back in 1922.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: So they've been around a long time.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: It says people like them better when they're frozen.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: I think that would break my tooth.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: They were hard to begin with.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: They were like you had to kind of rip into it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh, oh, oh, my grandparents had these.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: I won't I don't want to say these were set.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Well, I guess they were in the 70s.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: They had to have been buying them.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: The violet mints.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: I know of one place particularly that sells those currently to this day in the store, and those are nasty.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: They are so nasty.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: You think so?
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: People will come who love them and buy them by the case.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: I mean by the box.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: I think it's the smell of them.
- 9:15unknown: Nast.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Don't like them.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: And you like the shape of them?
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Little square.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: The package is pretty.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: I love that color purple.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: A mallow cup.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Wasn't that like a gooey inside?
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, kind of marshmallow.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: That was a thing then.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: And it says those started selling actually in the 30s.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: So here I was trying to hit 70s candy like when we were little going trick-or-treating.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: And these I didn't realize we were loving these old people candy.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, the Fifth Avenue.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Got it.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was a big deal.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Hag's drugstore in Indianapolis had a candy bar section.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: I remember then I think they were like 25 cents.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: And I always needed that extra penny for the tax to be able to buy something.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: I know a pack of gum was quarter.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, now I hated these.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: I think they were peanut butter, the little Mary Jane's.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Not what they call Mary Jane now.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: It's a chewy peanut butter molasses.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Look familiar.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I like those.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Those are terrible.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: If you bent dish right, you couldn't open your mouth for like two days.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Yes, they would stick together.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they would stick together and you would have to like let it dissolve.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: I love the Neko wafers.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: I didn't like the Necos.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: I like the all chocolate ones.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: You can buy tubes of all chocolate.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: There are ones.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: I know where they sell those to to this day.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Now these I didn't understand as much.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: The little bottles with the liquid in them that were paraffine.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: And that uh bottle was wax.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: So I would see a lot of people, they would drink this stuff out of it and then gnaw on the wax.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Again, I didn't like that texture.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: That's like the paraffine lips.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: You'd buy the lips and just like it was I guess it wasn't meant to be eaten.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Eaten.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Eaten.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, eaten.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Eaten.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: I hope people weren't swallowing that stuff.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: But do you know I know a store that still sells those to this day that you can go in and buy nostalgic candy?
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: I never had anyone come in and buy those by the case.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Blow pops.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: I guess they've been around a long time.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Those are still in like every drugstore.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: They're still popular for Halloween.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Oh, I love the candy necklaces.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Love them, love them, love them.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: So who didn't have a slimy, spitty piece of elastic around your neck?
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Not awesome candy.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: And uh the necklace and the bracelets they had later came out with rings and stuff that were we were just nasty.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: We were nasty, because figure if you're only eating a couple, you stretch that thing out and you chew them off and then you let that thing snap back on your neck with all your spittle on it.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: And um what and no.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: And then if you you could pull it out and let somebody else take a bite or eat off of your necklace.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Maybe you did.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe eat off your necklace.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: That would mean you're sharing.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: You were sharing.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: You never shared a candy necklace.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: No.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: While you were wearing it.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: No, chances are I probably just popped that whole thing in my mouth anyway.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: I didn't.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Not to share my necklace.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Here's my candy.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: The fun dip.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: I love fun dips.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: So did Scott.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: He would always get them at Walmart right after Valentine's Day because you could buy like 50 cents for the boxes of them.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: And we'd sit there and eat the sticks.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, we'd eat some of the Kool-Aid out of there, but the white stick, that kind of ranks up there with that chalk.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: But these are sweet.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Good taste.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're good.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, those are sweet.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: But I like fun dip.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: I just think it's fun.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: I've never ever seen anybody ever put it in water and make actual like Kool-Aid.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Well, no.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Out of it.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: You're supposed to put it on the stick.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: We're supposed to put it on the stick there.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: And you lick the stick and you stick it in there and you scoop it out.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: They can be messy, oh razzles.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: I like those too.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: The gum that had candy on the outside.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, here we go.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: There's your ring pop.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, ring pop.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Those were good.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: Those were good.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Did you think you were hot stuff with your diamond ring?
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: With can't shit.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: I would get engaged with a damn candy ring.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would say, hell yeah.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: I'd be like, you're the one if you're gonna give me candy.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, the baby bottle pops.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Keep them coming.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Why do I think these were newer?
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't remember that being I mean, maybe we did have them back in the day, but I remember more like Tyler and Scott having those.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean they're a newer thing.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I think what stands out, they had some creepy commercials with some big babies in them.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that was a thing.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: We'll be searching those.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Creepy babies.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Oh, and these have been around forever.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Scott loved these nerds.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Gotta love some nerds.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Now they have them where they're like chewy and they're bigger and it's like nerds and ropes and yeah.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Those were good.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Get that box all wet and still just trying to be eating out of them.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: And um, you know a candy that I think I thought it went away.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: I guess it was a rumor that it went away, but then I've seen it in places that sell nostalgic candy was pop rocks.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, those used to be called um space dust.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: When they first came out with space dust.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: It never came into pop rock.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: You can still get them.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've seen them, but I think I thought there for a while it was rumored like you know, they'd blow up in your stomach if you or they'd pop in your belly and make your stomach hurt.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, I could see that because I know there was a big rumor about Mentos and Coke.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Put those in your stomach at the same time and it would explode.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: And there's something else called zaps.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Was it the same kind of thing?
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: You're asking things I can't I don't remember.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Do you remember I mean, as far as getting like Halloween candy, I remember in the neighborhood across the street, and they always gave out the same candy every year.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Yet we kept going back, and it was those.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: They only came wrapped in like black and orange.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: And I think they were kind of like I love those.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: They're like peanut butter.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: They're like a taffy peanut butter.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, not a fan.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: I like those.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: I like those a lot.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, but I like the now, these are older, I think.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: It's round, I want to say it's caramel with a white in the middle.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I like those.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what they're called.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: I don't either.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: You'd have to.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: I know, I do like those.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: My grandmother always had the damn, it was just strawberry candy wrapped to look like a strawberry.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: The hard candy.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: I'm like, grandma, nobody wants those.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: We were talking about uh butterscotch one time at work, and one of the children's, uh, who were 18, over 18, by the way, I said, Oh, it's butterscotch flavored.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: And they asked me, What's butterscotch?
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: You've got to be shitting me.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: No.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: They didn't know the flavor of butterscotch.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: And I was like, so I was trying to describe it.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, it's buttery and scotchy.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: It's butterscotch.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: And and and then another person said, Oh, that's old people candy.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: I was like, They still sell butterscotch pudding and stuff in the stores.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: I beg your pardon.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Well, you're like, let me pull my worthers out of my pocket.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Brush the lint off.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: I know butterscotch, so what's that?
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: What's that?
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Old people candy.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Old people candy worm on the street.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: You know your grandma had that nasty candy down the bottom of her purse trying to give you a turn to shut your mouth.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Well, she had butter rum lifesavers.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: What kind of butterscotch flavor?
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: They had okay, maybe.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: And the spearmint, you know, the white with the red stripes.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: That was popular at church.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: But only if it was like in the bottom of my nanny's purse where cigarettes and you know dirty stuff have been down in there.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: So I'm just like trying to wipe it off.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: You brush it off.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna, you know, untelling what I was putting in my mouth.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: But anyway, I just put nasty things in our mouth.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: I don't care.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Now I'd be like, I'm good.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: There's a woman at work tried to hand me some unwrapped candy one day.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: I'm like, no, no, thank you.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: And I always say, on a diet.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: They're like, yeah, we believe it, but you know damn well I'm gonna go eat my own candy.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: I loved it when butterscotch candy was so old that it was almost soft.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: It would like soften when it got older, you know.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: And it would be like mushy and it would almost be like a film, uh like a mushy film, and then you, oh, it's so good.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I want some butterscotch and some candy corn.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: What's butterscotch?
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: I know old people candy.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: It's awful.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: What's that what's butterscotch flavor?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Like they've never seen it in a store.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Old people candy.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: Because maybe they don't go to stores.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe they don't go with the parents or they order everything, or who knows?
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: It's kind of shocking.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: It is shocking.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: I'm floored.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Some of these young children, it makes me just want to go get some butterscotch and pass that shit out right now.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have to go get some ding on the doorbell.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Making it rain.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Butterscotch.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: You can get them individually wrapped.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be our thing.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: I would love a butterscotch anything right now.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, I know.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: No pudding hidden away.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: I don't have any pudding.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: That is so funny.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: At work, every week it's a new one that I've set up.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: We just did um vintage Halloween decorations.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: And then I think the candy one is coming up next week.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: And then costumes, vintage costumes.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: So we're kind of hitting everything at work, and I thought we should be talking about candy.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I love candy.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Uh I've always had a sweet tooth.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: I would rather have candy than chips.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: I'd rather well see, you know, I'm like sweet, savory.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: I love the salty stuff too.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: I did make a bowl of popcorn the other night.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I had uh the popcorn and I put some MMs in there, some peanut MMs in with my popcorn, and it was good.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: That's sacrilegious.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: No, it's good.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: I liked it and I enjoyed it.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: I had to do it.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: If I have sweet, I want sweet.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, I like it though.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: I like the sweet and savory.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: But I mean, I don't get me wrong, when I want something sweet, now there ain't nothing else gonna make me happy.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Now I'll probably eat outside of house and home tonight because I'm out of candy corn.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: You know, once in a while though, I want pretzels.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: So I mean, when I used to trick-or-treat, I was thankful once in a while for the little bags of pretzels that got handed out.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: That was okay.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: I do remember my kids getting so mad at me because I would raid the chocolate.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: And they would hide it.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Oh yes.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Isn't that funny when you know your kids get too big for their own britches when they do start hiding their Halloween candy?
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: It's like bullshit.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: It's a bullshit.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, Mom, you can't go buy yourself the candy eight time wild and this is my Halloween candy.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: It's in my house, so it makes it part of mine.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Make part of it, yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's part of part of it's mine.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: It's in the house.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: I love a Kit Kat and a Twix.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Do you have a certain way do you have to eat them, like break them, and then even with the Twix where you like lick all the stuff off the top.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: And then you get it down to just the cookie.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: No.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I've done that before.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: To make it last longer.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna last longer.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: If I take my time.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: You know, I like I'm a slow eater.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: I I look at it, well, a normal Kit Kat, if you buy it, you know, there's the four little bars in there.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: That's eight bites.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: That's eight bites.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: I know I like a certain amount to put on my tongue.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Now, Twix, I'm trying to think how long they were.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: That's probably about four bites.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: I had the two cookies.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: You know, the two cookies.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: It's probably six bites.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: When you would bite them both at the same time, or you'd eat one?
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: One at a time.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: I think it's say.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: No, one at a time.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: That's just wrong if you open the whole pack and eat both of them.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: It's one at a time.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: You gotta eat one at a time.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: But lately, I I mean the past few years, any twigs I've eaten have been the bite-sized.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Of course, I can eat 50 of those.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it's small bites.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: You think, oh my gosh, I can eat ten more.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no problem.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: No problem.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: MMs, I have a hard time with like one at a time on those.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: I'm more like dump the box in my mouth.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Because you don't want it to melt in your hand.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: It's not supposed to.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: It won't.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: It won't.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Of course, junior mitts are my favorite.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, those will melt in your hands.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: I like lemon heads.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: I remember liking lemon heads and eating them like so much and sucking on them that like my mouth would hurt.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: You know, I like to suck on things so my mouth hurts.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: I love fireballs.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: The little red fireballs you talk about hurting your mouth.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: That mouth will burn up after about 10 of them.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm not in love with fireballs.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: But that's why you don't like the drink so much.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: No, I don't like that.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love it.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: No.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Like big red.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: No, I know.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: What's that uh uh cute joke that I love about fireball with the candle?
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: This smells like fireball.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what is that?
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: It's cinnamon, you alcoholic.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Well should we wrap her?
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: I guess so.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: I'm glad we came and talked about candy.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: I know you kind of were like, I don't know if I want to talk about it.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Well, I was in the mood to watch Carrie.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, we all go back to Carrie.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: But I think what it is, we'd rather eat candy than talk about it.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: But with Halloween coming, we had to talk a little bit about it.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: You know, I have grandkids and I mean, of course they're older, but they still love candy.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: I mean I mean, I don't think it ever goes out of style.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean, our infamous candy dish that we keep in the house, you know, that people have rented and raved.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know anybody who comes in here that doesn't dig around and, you know, like get them some.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: I think we've done better.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: We have cut back.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you and I.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we have cut back.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Somehow, some way.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, once in a blue moon, but we'll tear it up.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Shit, there were two boxes of junior mints in there that lasted how long?
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: There were weeks in between the two before I really pounced.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: And I haven't been buying.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: I don't have any hidden upstairs or anything.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: There's nothing hidden, I promise.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: We're being what we're being have.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: There is no candy up there, I promise.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Well, which is a miracle.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: I know, but you know what I'd do for some candy corn.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Make your mouth hurt.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: That's a wrap.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: That's a wrap on Litwine with Brendan and Stacey.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Bye.
