- 0:21Speaker 1: on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five. Is this the
- 0:33Speaker 1: first time the song is I've ever been playing on
- 0:34Speaker 1: our show? Not in honor of Philip Grubauer. I believe
- 0:37Speaker 1: it is welcome in everybody. It's Craig and the Lindall.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We are back with you here on a Monday afternoon.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Uh groove is in the heart. Jeff Legwald is always
- 0:45Speaker 1: in our heart, and he joins us right now. Jeff Legwald.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:50Speaker 1: IBEW Local sixty eight. So close, start with a job
- 0:55Speaker 1: and with a career. Leggy, How you doing, man?
- 0:59Speaker 3: How are we doing?
- 1:00Speaker 1: We're great, Jeff Legwald? How are you doing? I had
- 1:03Speaker 1: my first chance to go out and watch Camp Peyton
- 1:06Speaker 1: twenty twenty four today and I gotta tell you, Jeff,
- 1:10Speaker 1: I said this earlier in the show. If we were
- 1:13Speaker 1: to Frankenstein together a quarterback out of bow Nicks, S
- 1:18Speaker 1: Diddy and Zach Wilson, you might have something. The problem
- 1:23Speaker 1: is league rules, I'm pretty sure prohibit the Broncos from
- 1:26Speaker 1: doing that, as well as several local jurisdictions. So as
- 1:30Speaker 1: a result, the Broncos sort of are what they are.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Bon Nick's with the ones today, is it a foregone conclusion?
- 1:36Speaker 1: He's out there against Seattle and if not, what would
- 1:39Speaker 1: he have to do to lose it?
- 1:41Speaker 3: Well, mate, I believe they ultimately want to pick him,
- 1:46Speaker 3: but I think to do that, it's gotta be at
- 1:50Speaker 3: least close to a tie with Stidham. I think that's
- 1:56Speaker 3: ultimately what you know they're looking for. And from talking
- 2:00Speaker 3: to Sean Payton about this sort of thing and knowing
- 2:04Speaker 3: where he comes from and the coaching tree in the
- 2:07Speaker 3: Parcels world, there's no way he's going to hand a
- 2:11Speaker 3: rookie the job like the Bears have done. There's no
- 2:14Speaker 3: way he's gonna sit bow Knicks out of the preseason
- 2:18Speaker 3: opener like the Bears did. He's just not going to
- 2:21Speaker 3: do those things. I think he wants to see Nicks
- 2:26Speaker 3: function in these situations. But I think ultimately they you know,
- 2:32Speaker 3: the move they made on draft Day, the way he's
- 2:35Speaker 3: framed his belief in Knicks, and how complimentary he's been
- 2:41Speaker 3: of Knicks throughout the process, I think ultimately, yes, he
- 2:45Speaker 3: would like to name bow Knicks the quarterback, and I
- 2:48Speaker 3: still think he will. But I think when he looks
- 2:51Speaker 3: at the locker room, when he looks at practice, when
- 2:54Speaker 3: he looks at the at least the preseason opener and Indy,
- 2:59Speaker 3: I think he has to at least be able to
- 3:02Speaker 3: sell that it's close to a tie when he makes
- 3:05Speaker 3: the formal announcement. But I think it would take something,
- 3:10Speaker 3: you know, catastrophic in terms of injury or play or
- 3:15Speaker 3: for him not to do it. They just they just
- 3:18Speaker 3: have pointed themselves in this direction, and I think that
- 3:21Speaker 3: it is ultimately, even though he's never done it or
- 3:25Speaker 3: had to do it before, I think he will do
- 3:27Speaker 3: it this time.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Well, he got the start with the Ones today or
- 3:31Speaker 2: however you want to put it, he was with the
- 3:33Speaker 2: Ones today, he being bow Nicks, So does that point
- 3:36Speaker 2: to him being the first QB out there come Sunday
- 3:39Speaker 2: when they finally open the preseason?
- 3:41Speaker 3: Well, Andy, since they removed Zach Wilson from the mix.
- 3:44Speaker 3: They've alternated Nix and Stidham and I today they're still
- 3:50Speaker 3: on schedule doing that. Nix has not gotten a you know,
- 3:54Speaker 3: an extra day or anything. And you know, honestly, I
- 3:57Speaker 3: don't know. People get upset with me because I just
- 3:59Speaker 3: won't dive, man. But objectively, he's not winning the job
- 4:04Speaker 3: right now. He's hanging in there and he's making a
- 4:07Speaker 3: push for it. But if you were simply going on grades,
- 4:12Speaker 3: it'd be you know, stit him in a close fight
- 4:15Speaker 3: right now. But that's ultimately I don't think how it's
- 4:18Speaker 3: going to go.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Saw Jared Stidham throw a nice out route to Greg Dulcice,
- 4:24Speaker 1: made it catch along the sideline, was able to keep
- 4:26Speaker 1: his feet in get himself turned upfield. Are Broncos fans
- 4:31Speaker 1: allowed to start considering having some hope or optimism for
- 4:35Speaker 1: Greg Dulcage right now?
- 4:36Speaker 3: Jeff, Yeah, and Nate you know again, I you know,
- 4:41Speaker 3: I don't want to temper anybody's easy at them, but
- 4:44Speaker 3: I think I think a regular season game or two
- 4:47Speaker 3: would be nice.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Fan base that has burned Leggy, you know that, well, you.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Know, nobody's more frustrated with it. Than Dulcage probably. I mean,
- 4:57Speaker 3: I've spoken to him a little bit about it, and
- 5:01Speaker 3: he's uncomfortable even talking about it, so I'm sure he
- 5:04Speaker 3: is tired of it at all as well. But you know,
- 5:07Speaker 3: he has looked good this camp. He hasn't had any
- 5:10Speaker 3: they haven't given him any like extra days off or
- 5:13Speaker 3: anything like that. So he's he's had a pretty good
- 5:15Speaker 3: run here in the first couple of weeks of camp,
- 5:17Speaker 3: and I think they would love to see it in
- 5:20Speaker 3: a preseason game or two and then you know, be
- 5:23Speaker 3: ready to go in Seattle.
- 5:26Speaker 2: You know, Caden Sterns gets released today, A lot of
- 5:28Speaker 2: people raising an eyebrow at it around this station, on
- 5:32Speaker 2: all the shows, the programming lineup throughout the day. Unfortunately, Lady,
- 5:36Speaker 2: I wasn't really surprised. It just kind of felt to
- 5:38Speaker 2: me like they were not going to take a chance
- 5:40Speaker 2: on him getting injured again and having that salary on
- 5:42Speaker 2: the shelf. What all do you think went down there?
- 5:46Speaker 3: You know, I think he wanted more reps in practice
- 5:49Speaker 3: than he was getting, and you know they had already
- 5:53Speaker 3: moved they were already moving him in and out of
- 5:57Speaker 3: the of the rotation, you know. Anyway, so I think
- 6:03Speaker 3: he could. From his point of view, he could probably
- 6:05Speaker 3: see they were already giving j. L. Skinner, you know,
- 6:11Speaker 3: a lot more reps when you know, as soon as
- 6:13Speaker 3: Brandon Jones got hurt, j L. Skinner was getting a
- 6:16Speaker 3: lot of a lot of the run with the ones.
- 6:19Speaker 3: And it wasn't just Stern's unquestionably getting the run with
- 6:25Speaker 3: the ones next to PJ. Lock. So I think once
- 6:29Speaker 3: he saw that from his perspective, he was probably a
- 6:32Speaker 3: little concerned. And I think they've just decided, you know,
- 6:37Speaker 3: they want to look at Skinner, and they want to
- 6:39Speaker 3: look at Devin Key and some of these other young
- 6:41Speaker 3: guys because they are the ones who have been getting
- 6:45Speaker 3: the practice reps. And I guess if you're surprised this happened,
- 6:50Speaker 3: I think you missed a lot of the reps in
- 6:53Speaker 3: practice the last week and a half or so because
- 6:56Speaker 3: Skinner has been out there awful lot.
- 6:59Speaker 1: We'll take it with Jeff Legwald who has also been
- 7:01Speaker 1: out there and awful lot at Broncos camp. Here on
- 7:03Speaker 1: the Crakman and Lindahl showing out to Dude Sports Radio
- 7:05Speaker 1: ninety two five. Jeff Ioma Jasa Rique, the recently suspended
- 7:11Speaker 1: defensive lineman has been reinstated to the NFL. What's he
- 7:16Speaker 1: got in the tank? What should Broncos fans be looking for?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Is he going to make this team? Give us the
- 7:22Speaker 1: wassa Rique breakdown?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Well, you know, they like him as a player. They
- 7:27Speaker 3: wouldn't have hung in this long, but they and Sean Payton,
- 7:33Speaker 3: I think importantly, more importantly, he wasn't you know, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 3: he didn't talk a lot about him after the suspension
- 7:42Speaker 3: in this regard, but he's certainly been complimentary when he's
- 7:47Speaker 3: been asked about Wassaurique throughout the off season program and
- 7:51Speaker 3: early on in training camp here. So they were hoping
- 7:53Speaker 3: to get him back. Now it's a crowded position there.
- 7:56Speaker 3: It's pretty easy to get the six, which is what
- 7:59Speaker 3: they can last year in the defensive line, and especially
- 8:05Speaker 3: since they signed two guys or signed one Malcolm Roach
- 8:09Speaker 3: on the interior and traded or yeah, made a trade
- 8:13Speaker 3: for Franklin Myers. So it's already crowded. But I think
- 8:17Speaker 3: at minimum he's on the team's practice squad moving forward.
- 8:22Speaker 3: They like him as a player, they want him around,
- 8:24Speaker 3: and they think he has a has a future as
- 8:27Speaker 3: an impactful guy on the interior. You know, They like
- 8:32Speaker 3: guys who can move inside in the nickel and play
- 8:36Speaker 3: end when they're in the base look, and he can
- 8:39Speaker 3: do that, so that helps his cause.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Jeff, what'd you make a Saturday's practice? I feel like
- 8:44Speaker 2: I got a million different reviews. Didn't make it out there,
- 8:47Speaker 2: but you know, coach felt one way about it. What
- 8:51Speaker 2: was your take on how things went Saturday as they
- 8:53Speaker 2: tried to go with a little bit of live football.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think all three quarterbacks said some
- 9:00Speaker 3: good moments. Uh, you know, they each had, you know,
- 9:04Speaker 3: a couple of nice really you know, good passes, good balls,
- 9:09Speaker 3: good decisions in the in those live situations, but none
- 9:14Speaker 3: of the three you know, dominated a period or two
- 9:18Speaker 3: and that, you know, honestly right now, that's to be expected.
- 9:21Speaker 3: I mean they're, uh, they're still installing or going through
- 9:26Speaker 3: the second round of the of the installations. And Peyton
- 9:30Speaker 3: even said today, you know they're gonna do red zone
- 9:32Speaker 3: installation and third down installation for a second time this
- 9:37Speaker 3: week leading up to the preseason game. So the quarterbacks
- 9:41Speaker 3: aren't all going to look smooth all the time, and
- 9:45Speaker 3: none of them have challenged their tands, so they're really
- 9:48Speaker 3: working in a half field almost in my mind, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 3: until one of these guys starts to even work that
- 9:55Speaker 3: side of the field, whence their tan's in there. Uh,
- 9:59Speaker 3: they're gonna to have issues in terms of putting bulk.
- 10:04Speaker 3: You know, multiple plays together, but they each had their moments,
- 10:08Speaker 3: but I'm not sure they you know, there was this
- 10:12Speaker 3: astounding practice like I've seen some frame it. I guess
- 10:15Speaker 3: that's the way I would come down on it.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Jeff Flakewald not easily impressed by a Saturday practice out
- 10:22Speaker 1: there at Dove Valley. It is the Creckit the Lydd
- 10:24Speaker 1: Dolls Show. We're talking to Jeff Flakewald as he's brought
- 10:27Speaker 1: to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW
- 10:30Speaker 1: Local sixty eight. Starting with a job and with a career. Jeff,
- 10:35Speaker 1: gonna need you to handicap our center battle that has
- 10:39Speaker 1: been going on so far here at training camp. Who
- 10:43Speaker 1: is in the lead right now? Who is the best
- 10:45Speaker 1: fit with the four veterans around them?
- 10:48Speaker 3: Well, you know, Nate, it's intriguing. I think that, you know,
- 10:51Speaker 3: the the top two guys have been going pretty well.
- 10:56Speaker 3: It's hard for me to think forsythe won't be there,
- 11:00Speaker 3: you know, if and when it's it's Nicks at quarterback
- 11:03Speaker 3: just because of the experiences together and and but I
- 11:08Speaker 3: think it's a pretty close fight right now. I'm sort
- 11:12Speaker 3: of intrigued to see how it shakes out and the
- 11:14Speaker 3: first two preseason games because I think, to be fair,
- 11:18Speaker 3: both Foresight and Lautenberg have done pretty well and they've
- 11:22Speaker 3: been in there. They've both been or at least for
- 11:25Speaker 3: my from the eye test, they've they've made good decisions,
- 11:30Speaker 3: and but they haven't faced uh, you know, you haven't
- 11:33Speaker 3: been faced a lot of pass for US packages yet
- 11:36Speaker 3: and you probably won't too much in the preseason. But
- 11:39Speaker 3: they they will at least have to make choices in
- 11:42Speaker 3: those two games because I think in the third game
- 11:44Speaker 3: they're probably not going to play many of the starters
- 11:49Speaker 3: that we expect to play in Seattle. So I think
- 11:51Speaker 3: this is really a two game preseason for a lot
- 11:54Speaker 3: of these guys and a lot of these decisions, including
- 11:57Speaker 3: center and corner, you know that other core.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Where is there a battle maybe shaping up at a
- 12:05Speaker 2: position that we're not talking about John, Yeah, well yes.
- 12:12Speaker 3: But you know, I think some of some battles are
- 12:14Speaker 3: for playing you know, snap snap totals, and I think
- 12:18Speaker 3: running back and wide receiver are very intriguing. There's a
- 12:22Speaker 3: lot going on at both those spots with multiple players
- 12:26Speaker 3: making good cases right now. So I think they have
- 12:30Speaker 3: some hard decisions at those two positions in terms of
- 12:35Speaker 3: how many are you going to keep? Because I will
- 12:38Speaker 3: tell you, you know, Devon Vle has had one of the
- 12:43Speaker 3: best camps of any rookie the Broncos have.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Dude is huge. Jeff that is a large bodied receiver.
- 12:50Speaker 3: It would be you know, he's earned a spot in
- 12:54Speaker 3: my mind, whether or not he can actually get the
- 12:57Speaker 3: spot when it goes to fifty three will be interesting
- 13:01Speaker 3: for me to see because you can get you know,
- 13:03Speaker 3: last year they kept five. Now that's no guarantee they
- 13:06Speaker 3: keep just five this year, but it's certainly easy to
- 13:10Speaker 3: get to five pretty quick right now. But he's he's
- 13:14Speaker 3: earned a spot. He's he's had one of the best
- 13:17Speaker 3: camps of anybody on the on the team.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I think what kind of camp is Marvin Mims having
- 13:22Speaker 1: right now? Besides some frustrations perhaps with the coaching that
- 13:27Speaker 1: he has received, you know, and.
- 13:30Speaker 3: He's doing again that his game is down the field,
- 13:34Speaker 3: and other than Wilson who's already been taken all the rotation. Uh,
- 13:38Speaker 3: the other two guys haven't gone down the field very
- 13:41Speaker 3: much still of more excuse me stead of more the
- 13:46Speaker 3: last couple of days. But they have not worked the
- 13:50Speaker 3: ball down the field very often.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah, saw bow Nick's later to throw in there to
- 13:54Speaker 1: Courtland Sutton on a slant today. But it really is
- 13:58Speaker 1: wild when you watch this offense right now. LEGGI of
- 14:00Speaker 1: like and Andy and I were talking about this before.
- 14:04Speaker 1: You don't even like you don't even just have to
- 14:06Speaker 1: say Peyton Manning, like like Jake Plumber, Jake Cutler, like
- 14:10Speaker 1: these guys hell even case Keenum. These guys used to
- 14:13Speaker 1: just they would throw the ball vertically. They would they
- 14:17Speaker 1: would make chunk plays in training camp when they have
- 14:22Speaker 1: an advantage, oftentimes knowing exactly what a defense is doing
- 14:27Speaker 1: to them. And the Broncos like right now, you get
- 14:30Speaker 1: four or five of those throws a day if you're
- 14:33Speaker 1: lucky out there watching this group right now. It is
- 14:36Speaker 1: and and I think it's largely by design, like Sean
- 14:38Speaker 1: Payton wants to run an extremely conservative, don't make mistakes,
- 14:44Speaker 1: don't turn it over, don't take sacks kind of offense.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Wow. And I also think they've got too particularly Bonick,
- 14:53Speaker 3: you know, Stidham, a little more of a veteran is
- 14:56Speaker 3: gonna be a little more free. But you've got two
- 14:59Speaker 3: guys who are really competing for a job, and they
- 15:02Speaker 3: know mistakes are going to count, yeah, you know, and
- 15:06Speaker 3: they're gripping the wheel really tightly, and that's why you're
- 15:10Speaker 3: seeing what you're seeing. There are options down the field
- 15:14Speaker 3: on every play they're doing. But I think Nix in
- 15:18Speaker 3: particular is going first read quite often, and especially in
- 15:25Speaker 3: seven on seven and and those throws on air that
- 15:30Speaker 3: fans or even some of the people on our business
- 15:33Speaker 3: want to count, you know, with like almost double credit.
- 15:38Speaker 3: But even in those throws, he's taking a lot of
- 15:41Speaker 3: the intermediate and the short stuff, and some of that
- 15:44Speaker 3: is just comfort level. You know. That was the Oregon offense,
- 15:48Speaker 3: you know, for the most part. So I think, you know,
- 15:52Speaker 3: if they would dame bo Nicks the starter or skid
- 15:55Speaker 3: them the starter, I think you would see more down
- 15:57Speaker 3: the field because they'd play with a little more freedom.
- 16:01Speaker 3: But it may take that before we see all of
- 16:05Speaker 3: what Nix is willing to try. And you know, when
- 16:09Speaker 3: he has tried that, he has not been as accurate
- 16:12Speaker 3: as he's been in other parts of the field, so
- 16:15Speaker 3: I think he feels that too. So it's a pretty
- 16:18Speaker 3: natural phenomenon in a quarterback competition to see this. But
- 16:23Speaker 3: that is what you're seeing, and that's a lot of
- 16:25Speaker 3: Mims's Mims's role in the offense. So that's that's why
- 16:31Speaker 3: you may not have seen the impact from him. You
- 16:34Speaker 3: may have, say, for example, if Russell Wilson was still
- 16:39Speaker 3: you know, chucking the ball in practice right now.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Yep, Jeff Legwaald, everybody, ESPN. You read his stuff right there, Leggy.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Beautiful work as always, man, Thank you, thanks fellos.
- 16:49Speaker 3: We'll see it.
