- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Next
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. I have no idea
- 0:13Speaker 1: how I even made it to work today. My body
- 0:16Speaker 1: needs a bit of rest, but loads of action and
- 0:19Speaker 1: adrenaline coming your way as we summarize Formula One weekend
- 0:23Speaker 1: and going to a brand new week here in our
- 0:26Speaker 1: country of Singapore. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Something to warm your hearts on this Monday morning. If
- 0:35Speaker 1: you have your grandparents and they are still around, maybe
- 0:39Speaker 1: give them a call after you hear this, or if
- 0:41Speaker 1: they are with you in person, give them a huge
- 0:43Speaker 1: hug because a 16 year old Thai teenager, his name
- 0:48Speaker 1: is Q, and it was his grandfather's.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Dream to visit Singapore sometime, but of course, unfortunately, they
- 0:56Speaker 1: don't have enough for a flight here. What does 16-year-old
- 0:59Speaker 1: Q do? He plans a 2000 kilometer train journey to
- 1:06Speaker 1: Singapore to fulfill his grandfather's lifelong dream of visiting the country. So,
- 1:12Speaker 1: what happened? They took a train on in Thailand. It's
- 1:16Speaker 1: a third-class cabin.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And they went all the way to Malaysia where they
- 1:20Speaker 1: took a bus to the Pasir Mas railway station. Then
- 1:25Speaker 1: they took a train to Johor Bahru.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And with tickets maybe say costing about $15 per person
- 1:31Speaker 1: and from Johor Bahru, they took a bus across the
- 1:33Speaker 1: causeway into Singapore, and I think some of their posts
- 1:36Speaker 1: include a picture with our iconic one Fullerton Merlion. It's
- 1:40Speaker 1: gone viral, but to save on the accommodation, you would
- 1:44Speaker 1: know hotels here in Singapore are very expensive. And then
- 1:49Speaker 1: with Formula One weekend, some news about even budget hotels
- 1:52Speaker 1: going into the three-digit range.
- 1:55Speaker 1: They stayed overnight in Johor Bahru and it cost them
- 1:58Speaker 1: maybe say about $76 per night. So, to Q and
- 2:03Speaker 1: his grandfather, we say congratulations. Thank you for coming to Singapore.
- 2:07Speaker 1: What a story! We're sending you lots of love and again,
- 2:11Speaker 1: if you have your grandparents still with you here.
- 2:13Speaker 1: On God's green earth, give them a call or if
- 2:16Speaker 1: you want to go and visit them and give them
- 2:18Speaker 1: a huge hug today. Wanna go to WhatsApp right now
- 2:21Speaker 1: at 90050987. I believe maybe say if you're in primary school,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I want to say a big thank you to Jeremy
- 2:30Speaker 1: for bringing my attention to this one.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Apparently, today, tomorrow and Wednesday, it's PSLE marking day, so
- 2:38Speaker 1: maybe most schools, especially primary schools, they could have given
- 2:43Speaker 1: you 3 days of holiday after your end of year's exams,
- 2:47Speaker 1: but let's see. So, Jeremy says, hey, Joakim, I have
- 2:49Speaker 1: no school today. Currently, my dad and I are on
- 2:52Speaker 1: our way to MacRitchie for a nature hike. If you
- 2:55Speaker 1: could play me something from Zara Larsson.
- 2:57Speaker 1: That'll be amazing. Jeremy, you know what? All the best.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Enjoy your nature hikes. Stay clear of the monkeys. Don't
- 3:04Speaker 1: make eye contact and don't show them your teeth. And
- 3:06Speaker 1: I think over the weekend and for sure in the
- 3:10Speaker 1: last few weeks, some of us here in Singapore could
- 3:13Speaker 1: have been wondering, hey, what if the PSI goes above
- 3:17Speaker 1: 200 range? Will we, you know, get extra days of leave?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Stay home? Will outdoor training or outdoor activities be canceled?
- 3:26Speaker 1: I know for sure run clubs are very careful now
- 3:30Speaker 1: here in Singapore. They've been canceling their runs and they're saying,
- 3:33Speaker 1: if you want to go and run, please go and
- 3:35Speaker 1: do it indoors or if you're doing it outdoors, do
- 3:37Speaker 1: not stay outdoors for long, especially if you're doing prolonged
- 3:41Speaker 1: physical activities. So, as it stands, currently, the PSI, the
- 3:46Speaker 1: 24 hour PSI,
- 3:48Speaker 1: As of 7 a.m. according to NEA, it ranges between
- 3:52Speaker 1: 105 to maybe say 147. So, 147 both in the
- 3:59Speaker 1: western and central side in Singapore, northern side is 105,
- 4:03Speaker 1: southern side 118, and the east side is 135. So again,
- 4:08Speaker 1: knock on wood, people are wondering, hey, what happens if
- 4:10Speaker 1: it goes above 200?
- 4:13Speaker 1: So, actually, you'll be heartened to know that if that's
- 4:16Speaker 1: the case, then eligible Singaporeans will be able to get
- 4:21Speaker 1: the N95 haze mask from vending machines that'll be rolled out. So,
- 4:26Speaker 1: it'll be serving the pioneer generation, the Merdeka generation. If
- 4:31Speaker 1: you have the orange and blue CHAS card, it'll go
- 4:34Speaker 1: out for you as well. Medical fee exemption card and
- 4:37Speaker 1: the recipients of Comcare assistance. So, what you can do
- 4:41Speaker 1: is you go to the vending machines.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Your NRIC, you scan it and I think it'll dispense
- 4:46Speaker 1: two for you and it'll be located at 37 public
- 4:50Speaker 1: transport hubs and social service offices and the mass vending
- 4:55Speaker 1: machines will be in operation for 24 hours. So, there
- 4:58Speaker 1: you go, but let's hope that we don't see any
- 5:02Speaker 1: of these machines and that will mean the PSI has
- 5:05Speaker 1: not crossed above 200 yet and hopefully in the next
- 5:09Speaker 1: few weeks, it starts dying down and, and again,
- 5:13Speaker 1: We, we complain about it in Singapore and across the
- 5:15Speaker 1: causeway in Malaysia as well, but if you are in
- 5:18Speaker 1: Indonesia and by some miracle you tuned in to us
- 5:20Speaker 1: here at 987, if you're very near where the hotspots are,
- 5:25Speaker 1: I can only imagine how bad it is for you.
- 5:28Speaker 1: We're sending you all the love and we really hope
- 5:30Speaker 1: the haze goes away and for the hotspots in Indonesia
- 5:33Speaker 1: and wherever around the world, it ends as well. Let's
- 5:36Speaker 1: talk about the weekend here in Singapore, not the performer,
- 5:40Speaker 1: but the Formula One action.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And I'm gonna get the obvious out of the way
- 5:45Speaker 1: aside from the cars and again, congratulations to Max Verstappen.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Well done on winning this.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Before I share my experience with you, I want to
- 5:56Speaker 1: give a shout out to all the unsung heroes of
- 5:59Speaker 1: the Formula One stage in Singapore, the marshals who are volunteers, the, the,
- 6:05Speaker 1: the people doing all the roadworks and the traffic marshals
- 6:08Speaker 1: as well, our police officers, our security guards, to anyone
- 6:12Speaker 1: who volunteered their time.
- 6:14Speaker 1: To make everything run seamlessly, even to our friends over
- 6:18Speaker 1: at the public transport area here in Singapore, extending service timings.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Well done.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Um,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I, I, I believe social media sentiment is positive towards
- 6:32Speaker 1: how we were able to get every, almost everyone home.
- 6:36Speaker 1: People still have public transport. There was no queuing for
- 6:39Speaker 1: 10+ hours or whatsoever. So yeah, people at City Hall, Promenade,
- 6:44Speaker 1: Nicoll Highway Station, maybe people decide to walk to Bugis
- 6:48Speaker 1: or wherever as well. There was a train available for
- 6:50Speaker 1: you across all three.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So, my experience this year and if you do follow
- 6:56Speaker 1: me on social media, a very small shout out to
- 6:59Speaker 1: my friends over at Kit Kat Singapore and to Disney
- 7:03Speaker 1: as well. They very kindly invited me over the weekend
- 7:06Speaker 1: for Kit Kat to film some content and for Disney
- 7:10Speaker 1: to wear the Disney Formula One Uniqlo collaboration shirt. It
- 7:13Speaker 1: was a nice shirt, by the way.
- 7:15Speaker 1: and they put me at the paddock to just experience it.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Not at the paddock club, it's the paddock walk where
- 7:21Speaker 1: you're in the middle lane between the, the garages as
- 7:26Speaker 1: well as the team, how, how, how would I say this,
- 7:29Speaker 1: the team private area. Yeah, so you'll see the drivers
- 7:32Speaker 1: go in and out and really
- 7:35Speaker 1: There were loads of fans there as well who were
- 7:37Speaker 1: able to get VIP and paddock access, and honestly, a
- 7:42Speaker 1: part of me sometimes wonder, imagine this, yeah, if you're
- 7:44Speaker 1: a footballer, you're a professional footballer, and you have thousands
- 7:48Speaker 1: of people inside your locker room. Yeah, I, I wonder
- 7:52Speaker 1: whether would that affect the psyche because for Formula One,
- 7:55Speaker 1: kudos to the drivers. There are fans chasing them for selfies.
- 7:59Speaker 1: There are fans chasing them for an autograph or maybe
- 8:02Speaker 1: even a fist bump as well, and
- 8:04Speaker 1: I, I, I just wonder how focused they are before
- 8:08Speaker 1: they get into the cars to conduct the drive and
- 8:11Speaker 1: not just that, uh, people like Valtteri Bottas, Lewis Hamilton,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I think a few other drivers as well, they were
- 8:17Speaker 1: all on their scooters trying to get from point A
- 8:20Speaker 1: to point B, and yeah, people will run and chase
- 8:23Speaker 1: after them. They will smile for selfies, but
- 8:26Speaker 1: Most importantly, they need to get to where they need
- 8:28Speaker 1: to be in time for maybe say a briefing or
- 8:30Speaker 1: maybe for a practice run or even qualifying. And on Sunday,
- 8:35Speaker 1: oh my goodness, wow, people were really crowded. There were
- 8:39Speaker 1: more media there because they were expecting people like Kim Kardashian,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Eileen Goo, Sundara Park, Felix was there as well.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I, I think a few of the other K-pop acts
- 8:50Speaker 1: who I need to get more familiar with, they were
- 8:53Speaker 1: all there. Uh, Su Yi, who we had to interview
- 8:56Speaker 1: her on Friday, she was there as well, and she
- 8:57Speaker 1: looks absolutely beautiful. So, yeah, it, it was a very
- 9:01Speaker 1: eye-opening experience. Aside from your celebrities. There were some familiar CEOs.
- 9:06Speaker 1: If I'm not wrong, Sohu Chiu was there as well. Yeah, I,
- 9:11Speaker 1: I was just standing near the fan and looking at everything,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and I went, wow, this is really
- 9:16Speaker 1: A dream come true. You are fist bumping and meeting
- 9:19Speaker 1: people you never ever thought you would see. So, hopefully,
- 9:22Speaker 1: next year, if we can go bigger and better, who knows,
- 9:25Speaker 1: here on 987, we can put you there with us
- 9:28Speaker 1: to be a 987 reporter. How about that? That's the
- 9:32Speaker 1: content idea for next year. So, yeah, again, congratulations to
- 9:35Speaker 1: Max Verstappen. Today over at the Paddock area.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Um, I was there just covering some content, was able
- 9:43Speaker 1: to get a selfie with Eileen Goo available on 987's
- 9:46Speaker 1: Instagram page, and for Sonia, my goodness, the amount of
- 9:50Speaker 1: selfies that she has with your favorite K-pop artists and
- 9:53Speaker 1: people that she's seen.
- 9:54Speaker 1: In the last few days, amazing stuff as well. Go
- 9:57Speaker 1: give it a follow and make sure you like it
- 9:58Speaker 1: over at 987 FM on Instagram and on TikTok. But
- 10:02Speaker 1: here was the thing, it was race day and I said, hey,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know what? Since I pledged my allegiance to Cadillac
- 10:09Speaker 1: when they announced that there was a team last year
- 10:11Speaker 1: sometime in September.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I bought a shirt. I wore it, but for the
- 10:16Speaker 1: garage that was around the areas, you have all the
- 10:19Speaker 1: different teams with the, with the dedicated the garage. Some
- 10:22Speaker 1: lucky VIPs were able to go in there for a
- 10:25Speaker 1: quick tour, a quick look, and maybe see a picture
- 10:27Speaker 1: in front of it, and they are done. I wasn't
- 10:30Speaker 1: tied to any group. I, I was just there on
- 10:32Speaker 1: my own. So I took a risk, went down to
- 10:34Speaker 1: the end of the, the Formula One building in Singapore.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And I said, hey, I spoke to the Cadillac staff,
- 10:42Speaker 1: my bro. I wish I got his name. I said, I,
- 10:46Speaker 1: I don't have any groups to to me or any
- 10:50Speaker 1: accreditation to go into the garage, but is it possible
- 10:53Speaker 1: to just go in there as a fan?
- 10:55Speaker 1: And I, and I promised to be on my best behavior.
- 10:57Speaker 1: He looks at his watch and he goes, you know what?
- 10:59Speaker 1: I have 4 minutes. Come on in, and it was
- 11:02Speaker 1: a treat. It was a treat of a lifetime and
- 11:04Speaker 1: I think the Cadillac garage was very nicely designed. I
- 11:07Speaker 1: would give top marks to Audi's garage door. The, the
- 11:11Speaker 1: entrance itself, it was absolutely beautiful, very sleek. So, I
- 11:17Speaker 1: want to celebrate.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Create the joys of receiving what you asked for. 669-11987
- 11:23Speaker 1: or you can even WhatsApp us at 90050987. I'm gonna
- 11:27Speaker 1: keep it really simple. What was something you asked for
- 11:30Speaker 1: and you actually received it positively, of course. Don't say
- 11:33Speaker 1: I asked for trouble and I got it as well, don't.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Very quickly, if you missed the story that inspired this
- 11:39Speaker 1: one yesterday again.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I was not tied to any sponsors or any clients
- 11:44Speaker 1: in the paddock club where usually those VIPs will go
- 11:47Speaker 1: down and they'll be able to have a tour of
- 11:49Speaker 1: the team's garage. So for example, if you are with
- 11:53Speaker 1: a brand that represents Audi, you might go into the
- 11:55Speaker 1: garage for a while. So, I was just a fan
- 11:58Speaker 1: with a bit of VIP access only for the paddock walkabout.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And given how I was wearing a Cadillac shirt, I
- 12:05Speaker 1: just walked over to the garage and I asked the
- 12:07Speaker 1: staff member of theirs, saying, Hey, I'm not tied to
- 12:10Speaker 1: any group, but is it possible to have a quick
- 12:12Speaker 1: peek of your garage? And he says, You have 5 minutes.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Let me show you around. He helped me take some
- 12:17Speaker 1: pictures as well. It was an amazing experience. He got
- 12:19Speaker 1: to see Val Teddy Bottas's car and Checo Perez as well.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So we are celebrating the joys of receiving what you
- 12:25Speaker 1: asked for. I want to go to WhatsApp and say
- 12:27Speaker 1: good morning to Joel. Joel said, Morning, Joakim.
- 12:31Speaker 1: When I first set out, my wish was simple. A
- 12:34Speaker 1: short-haired male kitten with a long tail, around 3 to
- 12:37Speaker 1: 4 months old, any color would do, but life had
- 12:40Speaker 1: other plans. Luck brought me Mitchell Zeta Jones, a ginger
- 12:45Speaker 1: boy with stripes that whisper of wild tigers and a
- 12:48Speaker 1: personality that shines brighter than I ever dreamed of. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: didn't expect a ginger, I didn't expect the little surprises
- 12:54Speaker 1: in his markings, but I got more than I asked
- 12:56Speaker 1: for and my heart is full. Thank you so much
- 12:58Speaker 1: for sharing.
- 12:59Speaker 1: a story. Joel, I wanna say hello to Joey. Joey says, Hey, Joakim,
- 13:04Speaker 1: this is Joey about asking for something. I believe in
- 13:08Speaker 1: ask and ye shall receive. Therefore, I will ask for
- 13:10Speaker 1: what I need, want, when necessary. This might not be
- 13:14Speaker 1: the best example, but when I was about to go
- 13:15Speaker 1: into labor, I was extremely terrified of pain. I asked
- 13:19Speaker 1: for nonstop epidurals and morphine. The staff administered all of
- 13:24Speaker 1: them and gave me some sedatives. On the topic of
- 13:27Speaker 1: Receiving what you asked for. The stereotype is maybe Singaporeans
- 13:30Speaker 1: when it comes to us trying to ask for something nice,
- 13:34Speaker 1: we could be a bit paisy about it, but when we,
- 13:37Speaker 1: when it comes down to entitlements, things that we are owed, oh,
- 13:40Speaker 1: we have no problem writing complaint emails or complaint letters
- 13:44Speaker 1: or whatsoever. So we take the positive spin to it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Wanna go to WhatsApp and say good morning to a
- 13:49Speaker 1: few people. Wanna say hello to Chris on WhatsApp. Chris says, morning, Joakim.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Every time I traveled overseas, after I checked out from
- 13:59Speaker 1: the hotel, I would ask the staff at the counter
- 14:01Speaker 1: if I could keep the hotel room key card sleeve.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Almost all of them would agree to my request, and
- 14:08Speaker 1: there was this one hotel in KL. The staff even
- 14:10Speaker 1: offered me a brand new room key card for me
- 14:12Speaker 1: to keep as a souvenir. I felt so surprised and
- 14:15Speaker 1: grateful for it. Now I have a huge collection of sleeves,
- 14:18Speaker 1: which reminds me of the places I had visited.
- 14:21Speaker 1: And one more coming in from Amanda. Amanda says, Hey, Joakim.
- 14:24Speaker 1: So my husband and I were attending a Twice concert.
- 14:27Speaker 1: We saw a staff member holding a booklet hanging around
- 14:30Speaker 1: the waiting area, and I was curious. So I went
- 14:32Speaker 1: up and I asked what it was. Turns out they
- 14:35Speaker 1: were giving out pit access. We, of course, said yes,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and that's how we went from upper bowl to tickets
- 14:41Speaker 1: to the VIP slash pit. We were literally so close
- 14:45Speaker 1: to all 9 girls, the experience was.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So surreal knowing that Momo, Sui, and Jiho knew our
- 14:51Speaker 1: existence for approximately 3 seconds because we waved and they
- 14:54Speaker 1: waved back. Unbelievable. So cute, lah, Amanda. And by the way,
- 14:57Speaker 1: watch out for our full interview with Tu Yi in
- 15:00Speaker 1: just a while on 987 socials, we be it on
- 15:02Speaker 1: Instagram and on TikTok. A bit of a backstory for you,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and you know how whenever I bring on a guest,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I like to glaze them. I think this was sometime
- 15:11Speaker 1: last year or a few months ago.
- 15:13Speaker 1: One of my friends forwarded me a video of this
- 15:16Speaker 1: girl singing at a market. She was doing Chop sway
- 15:20Speaker 1: by System of a Down, a song that we've not
- 15:23Speaker 1: played on 987 in what, so many years and
- 15:26Speaker 1: A lot of people when they question my music knowledge
- 15:30Speaker 1: and my music taste and I list them bands, they
- 15:32Speaker 1: would say joking, you're very unk. It's unk music, and
- 15:36Speaker 1: then I see someone like her performing that and now
- 15:39Speaker 1: the winner of America's Got Talent. It gives me hope
- 15:42Speaker 1: that the kids are alright. Say hello to Nene Royal
- 15:45Speaker 1: live in the studio.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Wow. Mini, welcome back to Singapore and it's amazing. What
- 15:54Speaker 1: what a journey you've had. I'm a fan. I, I
- 15:57Speaker 1: love the videos and ever since that Chop sue video,
- 15:59Speaker 1: I've followed you.
- 16:01Speaker 1: And I've seen you sing so many times in those videos,
- 16:05Speaker 1: and I'm glad that everything is happening for you now.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Very well deserved. Thank you. Can I, can I ask
- 16:10Speaker 1: you on the very first question though? Nene Royal, that, that,
- 16:14Speaker 1: that stage name that you have, what's the meaning behind it?
- 16:17Speaker 1: How do you come up with it? Tell us.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yeah. OK, well, basically, my actual, my actual real name,
- 16:23Speaker 2: it's Prayo. It's a Thai name.
- 16:25Speaker 2: And I, I was busking in the night market. It's
- 16:29Speaker 2: called Naka Night Market, but actually in Tai Tala Ziaofawareti
- 16:34Speaker 2: in
- 16:34Speaker 1: that time. OK, I'll get the inflection wrong if I
- 16:36Speaker 1: say it not,
- 16:38Speaker 2: OK, and then.
- 16:40Speaker 2: My first stage name is Prao Zhaofa. Prao is my
- 16:44Speaker 2: actual name. Zhaofa is the name in the night market.
- 16:47Speaker 2: It's in Thai name, so it's called Tala Zhaofa Wati. Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I'm trying, yeah, I'm trying to get the
- 16:55Speaker 2: thing correct pronunciation. It's
- 16:56Speaker 1: just one line.
- 16:57Speaker 1: set the bar higher for me. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 2: well, yeah, and then there's so many national people who
- 17:05Speaker 2: say my name wrong, hard to say, pronounce my name.
- 17:09Speaker 2: It was like sometimes like PO Pi Paal Paint. I
- 17:13Speaker 2: don't know, so I was like.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I should change my name. I should have like English name.
- 17:20Speaker 2: So I decided to put Nanay because that's the easy
- 17:23Speaker 2: pronounce and it's a cute name for me and also
- 17:27Speaker 2: I was so young. I use that name because I
- 17:30Speaker 2: watched a cartoon. It's like a flamingo cartoon. I think
- 17:34Speaker 2: I remember that.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Is it a
- 17:36Speaker 1: Thai cartoon or a Western cartoon or
- 17:38Speaker 2: I think it's like.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Um, let's say I think it's Thai, yeah, and the
- 17:43Speaker 2: flamingo name is like Nene, and I love that cartoon,
- 17:47Speaker 2: but I don't know what's the cartoon name, but yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 2: so I decided to put Nene and the Royal is
- 17:53Speaker 2: the name in the night market.
- 17:56Speaker 2: So you know jiaofa, but in English it said royal.
- 18:00Speaker 2: It's kind of like queen rock girl, you know. So
- 18:03Speaker 2: I decided to put na na
- 18:04Speaker 2: royal.
- 18:05Speaker 1: We are definitely with the queen right here in the
- 18:07Speaker 1: 987 studio. That's such a nice backstory. So before we
- 18:11Speaker 1: focus on your journey on America's Got Talent.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And I want to ask about your performances on the
- 18:15Speaker 1: market in in the market. How did that journey even
- 18:18Speaker 1: begin in the first place? Did you just pick up
- 18:20Speaker 1: the guitar one day and went, I want to sing,
- 18:22Speaker 1: and you just did it? Or were you trained? Did
- 18:24Speaker 1: you practice? How do you start? Well,
- 18:26Speaker 2: basically, I started playing guitar since I was 7, but
- 18:30Speaker 2: that time, I don't know any music. I don't know
- 18:32Speaker 2: how to play guitar and I don't know what is guitar.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I don't know what is bass.
- 18:36Speaker 2: So I don't care about music at that time because
- 18:38Speaker 2: I want to join like in school summer I wanna
- 18:41Speaker 2: join like computer science, math, English. I just wanna study
- 18:45Speaker 2: that's all but like when I go to to school
- 18:50Speaker 2: we have to sign the club stuff so I wanna
- 18:53Speaker 2: sign Commodore but it's full and they told me like
- 18:57Speaker 2: it's only music club and I was like.
- 19:01Speaker 2: What is music?
- 19:02Speaker 1: So, so very much if you think about clubs like
- 19:05Speaker 1: CCA here in Singapore. So yes, tell us more about
- 19:07Speaker 1: the music club then.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Yeah, so I wanna try some like challenge. It's like
- 19:12Speaker 2: maybe like for fun, you know, I didn't, I didn't
- 19:15Speaker 2: expect about it to be like performing on busking week.
- 19:17Speaker 2: So I go and the teacher told me like if
- 19:20Speaker 2: you want to study there's only guitar lesson and you have,
- 19:24Speaker 2: if you want to study guitar you have to buy.
- 19:27Speaker 2: The first guitar first and then come to study and
- 19:28Speaker 2: I was like how can I buy that? I don't
- 19:31Speaker 2: know where to buy that guitar so I go to
- 19:34Speaker 2: like some the mall that they have like music instruments
- 19:39Speaker 2: so I just buy I bought like a cheaper one
- 19:42Speaker 2: it's not like a perfect guitar so.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I played that
- 19:48Speaker 2: And I start to learn like easy chords, like E minor, C, G, D.
- 19:54Speaker 2: And then I think I played like 3 days and
- 19:57Speaker 2: I can play 1 song already. So it's called
- 20:01Speaker 1: Zombie. Oh, there we go, which we'll be hearing in
- 20:04Speaker 1: just a while on 987 and then you learned Zombie
- 20:07Speaker 1: and all your other musical influences like all the bands
- 20:10Speaker 1: you listen to. Where did you find them and how
- 20:13Speaker 1: did you fall in love with this style of music,
- 20:15Speaker 1: rock and that grungy vocals of yours?
- 20:17Speaker 2: Well, basically.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I didn't know about the style of music in that time,
- 20:24Speaker 2: but I think I was like 9 years old, I guess,
- 20:27Speaker 2: or 8 or 9. My dad.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Who's in the studio?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he's right there.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Hello, sir. Paul.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Hello.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and my dad, me and my parents, I was
- 20:41Speaker 2: like sit in the back in the car and my
- 20:42Speaker 2: dad was open to radio. He in love rock music.
- 20:47Speaker 2: It's like his age, like 90s music or 2000, I
- 20:51Speaker 2: don't know, but he opened the songs like his favorite
- 20:56Speaker 2: band such as um Deep Purple, ACDCs, you know.
- 21:03Speaker 2: His his favorite rock music and I was like listen
- 21:07Speaker 2: and in my mind I was like oh that's kind
- 21:09Speaker 2: of like fit for me so I decided to tell
- 21:12Speaker 2: my dad like I wanna play rock music like this
- 21:17Speaker 2: style what you're opening right now and then my dad
- 21:19Speaker 2: was like are you sure? because that was like a
- 21:21Speaker 2: bit hard for you and I was like I know
- 21:24Speaker 2: what you mean like I know that boys that the
- 21:27Speaker 2: only guy who's playing rock but women can also play
- 21:31Speaker 2: rock so.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I, I decided to play rock music and I started
- 21:35Speaker 2: to play electric guitar.
- 21:36Speaker 2: So I started to play a first solo piece is
- 21:39Speaker 2: called Hotel
- 21:40Speaker 1: California by
- 21:41Speaker 2: the
- 21:41Speaker 1: Eagles. Yes. Can I just say to everyone here who
- 21:44Speaker 1: says I have taste in music, your argument now is
- 21:47Speaker 1: null and null and invalid anymore, OK? It's null and voided. Uh,
- 21:51Speaker 1: how do you take care of your voice? Because the
- 21:53Speaker 1: rock star is a very different, and I mean, you
- 21:56Speaker 1: performed with Linkin Park on stage as well. I think
- 21:58Speaker 1: Emily Armstrong has a similar vocal range to you. How
- 22:01Speaker 1: do you? Were you even trained or did singing come
- 22:04Speaker 1: naturally to you?
- 22:05Speaker 2: Well,
- 22:06Speaker 2: Let's say I think the most important it's like to
- 22:10Speaker 2: understand how to use your voice and also when you're
- 22:15Speaker 2: trying to scream my first time I tried to scream
- 22:19Speaker 2: and it's a bit hard for me so I practice
- 22:22Speaker 2: and then I know how to use to scream because
- 22:25Speaker 2: you have to sing like.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Like in your stomach but not in your neck because
- 22:30Speaker 2: every time I thought it was that we have to
- 22:33Speaker 2: sing in your neck but it's not you have to
- 22:34Speaker 2: sing in your stomach so that's how you sing and
- 22:37Speaker 2: also I.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Um, I always, before I sing, I always used to, um,
- 22:43Speaker 2: vocal warm up, vocal
- 22:44Speaker 1: warm up. OK. And one last question before we take
- 22:46Speaker 1: a very quick break. Then when we come back, we'll
- 22:48Speaker 1: focus on your America's Got Talent journey. Yeah, um, the
- 22:52Speaker 1: kids around you in the band, were they your friends?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Were they your neighbors, schoolmates, music club? Yeah, wow.
- 22:58Speaker 2: And basically, I was like in.
- 23:03Speaker 2: The music school and also I don't know who who
- 23:08Speaker 2: are they because we're in different school like I'm in
- 23:11Speaker 2: international school and they're from like Thai school and there
- 23:15Speaker 2: are the Thai school other Thai school so we know
- 23:18Speaker 2: which we meet in the music school it's called Yamaha
- 23:22Speaker 2: yeah and then.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Um, um, we have a lesson like a band session,
- 23:29Speaker 2: so teacher in Yamaha decide to like.
- 23:33Speaker 2: They're gonna pick up like this girl's gonna be in
- 23:35Speaker 2: this band, this guy gonna be in this band. So yeah,
- 23:38Speaker 2: that's how we know each other and then I love
- 23:41Speaker 2: rock and I was so scared like.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Are they gonna love rock music? Yes. But actually, they really,
- 23:48Speaker 2: really love rock music, so
- 23:50Speaker 1: we're fit. To that teacher who plays them in a band,
- 23:53Speaker 1: well done. Well done to you. By the way, I
- 23:55Speaker 1: forgot to ask, is, is 9:30 a.m. considered early for you?
- 23:59Speaker 1: Is this OK? It's fine. It's fine, great, because she's
- 24:02Speaker 1: only 16. Because I
- 24:03Speaker 2: always, I always wake up in that time because I
- 24:05Speaker 2: go
- 24:05Speaker 1: to school. Yeah, there you go. Wait, wait, wait till
- 24:07Speaker 1: you get to 38.
- 24:09Speaker 1: OK, so we, we spoke about your beginnings earlier. Now
- 24:12Speaker 1: let's talk about America's Got Talent. How did this happen?
- 24:16Speaker 1: Was it because of the videos you posted, you went
- 24:19Speaker 1: viral and someone from America's Got Talent saw and said, hey,
- 24:22Speaker 1: let's try to get her on our show and see
- 24:23Speaker 1: how far she goes, or was it a dream of yours?
- 24:26Speaker 2: Well, actually, that's my dream because like I was so
- 24:29Speaker 2: young and I watched all of acts in America's Got Talent,
- 24:32Speaker 2: not only America, British.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Got Talent Thailand Got Talent all around the world that's
- 24:38Speaker 2: my Got Talent and but I just wanna be on
- 24:43Speaker 2: stage like imagine because I watch it and I want
- 24:46Speaker 2: to be like, wait, I want to perform in that
- 24:48Speaker 2: stage like I'm gonna jump on it. So I decided
- 24:53Speaker 2: to send the audition clip videos. I'm like I don't
- 24:56Speaker 2: know how many times, 4 times I guess, but like.
- 25:00Speaker 2: First time America's Got Talent didn't respond to anything, so
- 25:03Speaker 2: I decided to send 2nd time, no response. 3rd time,
- 25:08Speaker 2: no response, but 4th time I was like, OK, that's
- 25:13Speaker 2: going to be the last chance for me. So America
- 25:16Speaker 2: just text me, said like, you're gonna be on America's
- 25:20Speaker 2: Got Talent, so you need to come in America. I
- 25:22Speaker 2: was like.
- 25:24Speaker 2: What? Yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 1: how long was the the date? So they be here
- 25:28Speaker 1: in 2 days or 3 days or a week or
- 25:30Speaker 1: how long was the travel time?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Uh, it's like 1 month, 1 month, 1 month, but
- 25:37Speaker 2: that's too short for me because I need to like
- 25:39Speaker 2: prepare the songs. I decided to, to do zombie for
- 25:43Speaker 2: the audition, but basically, I didn't know that I'm going
- 25:47Speaker 2: to audition like actual performance on that stage because I
- 25:50Speaker 2: thought it was like.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I was in a backstage and I saw like a
- 25:55Speaker 2: stage behind right here, but it's small and like there's
- 25:58Speaker 2: like 1000 acts and some like team works in America.
- 26:04Speaker 2: So I thought I'm going to perform here. It's like
- 26:07Speaker 2: not like in front of the audience, not in front
- 26:09Speaker 2: of like 4 judges, Simon, you know, Sophia, Melby, Howie.
- 26:15Speaker 2: So I thought it was like this performance and if
- 26:17Speaker 2: I pass, I'm going to go to that performance, that stage.
- 26:21Speaker 2: So basically the team just came to me and said like,
- 26:24Speaker 2: are you ready to be on stage? And I said, yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 2: So but I asked the question like, am I supposed
- 26:30Speaker 2: to be performed here, the back of me, like a
- 26:34Speaker 2: small stage and I say, nope. And I was like,
- 26:37Speaker 2: So, what, what is that for? And I said, that's
- 26:40Speaker 2: the prop.
- 26:42Speaker 2: That's the prop for like shooting some stuff in like
- 26:45Speaker 2: behind the scenes before we go on stage and I
- 26:48Speaker 2: was like, so which stage am I going? And then
- 26:51Speaker 2: she said, follow me. So I walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk,
- 26:54Speaker 2: and then there's like a crowd just scream and I
- 26:57Speaker 2: was like.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Am I actually going to perform here? And then she said, yep,
- 27:02Speaker 2: good luck. And I was like,
- 27:05Speaker 2: Girl,
- 27:06Speaker 2: Am I supposed to perform here? And she's like, yeah,
- 27:09Speaker 2: in front of an audience like 33,000 people and 4 judges.
- 27:15Speaker 2: So I was like, I didn't expect that. I didn't
- 27:18Speaker 2: imagine that I'm going to be performed in that stage,
- 27:21Speaker 2: like a big stage for audition, and I'm so, so nervous.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I just walked on stage and then I was speaking
- 27:30Speaker 2: and my hand was shaking.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Like, hi, my name's Nanay and.
- 27:37Speaker 2: It's so nervous. I don't know what am I going
- 27:38Speaker 2: to do, so I decide to.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Be calm to imagine like this stage. It's like a
- 27:46Speaker 2: nan a market or like think about like that's my
- 27:48Speaker 2: concert that's where I perform always and when I stopped
- 27:53Speaker 2: the rap guitar, my nerves was gone. I just enjoy it.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And then I love the moment that
- 28:00Speaker 2: When I said sing with me, come on, the zombies songs,
- 28:04Speaker 2: everyone just stand up and then sing and the judges
- 28:07Speaker 2: also sing. So I'm very happy and very successful. I,
- 28:12Speaker 1: I, I might remember this wrongly. I've seen the video.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Nobody pressed the golden buzzer, right? You, you, you got
- 28:17Speaker 1: through with 4 yeses, why didn't.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Anyone press the golden buzzer? That was a golden buzzer
- 28:23Speaker 1: moment for you already, but OK, we go from the
- 28:26Speaker 1: audition to the grand finals, to which you won, of course,
- 28:29Speaker 1: Lincoln Park. I'm a huge fan. And, and when they reunited,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I actually flew to Korea to watch the concert and
- 28:35Speaker 1: I got a selfie with them. I loved it. And
- 28:37Speaker 1: to see you on stage with Emily Armstrong, who's an
- 28:40Speaker 1: equal like rocker girl as well.
- 28:42Speaker 1: And if I'm not wrong, there was a story online
- 28:44Speaker 1: saying that how Linkin Park actually were not free, but
- 28:47Speaker 1: when they found out it was you, they made time
- 28:49Speaker 1: in their schedule to play alongside you. If I'm not wrong,
- 28:53Speaker 1: what was it like performing with them for the grand finals? I,
- 28:56Speaker 1: I could be wrong. It could
- 28:57Speaker 1: be
- 28:57Speaker 2: just I know, but the thing is like, um, for
- 29:01Speaker 2: the final round is the date is for the result
- 29:05Speaker 2: and
- 29:06Speaker 2: The team told me to like, oh, there's gonna be
- 29:09Speaker 2: like a fun show so I want you to perform
- 29:12Speaker 2: the songs by Linkin Park and I was like.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I didn't know about this. I just learned this song,
- 29:21Speaker 2: The Emptiness Machine by Licky Partridge one day.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I can't tell. Nobody can tell, yeah, because
- 29:28Speaker 2: like.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Because at that time it's the final performance and the
- 29:32Speaker 2: next day it's a result. So yeah, when I finished
- 29:35Speaker 2: the performance and then they come to me, they're like, OK,
- 29:39Speaker 2: they're gonna be performance tomorrow, so I want you to
- 29:42Speaker 2: play the songs called The Emptiness Machine by the Linkin
- 29:46Speaker 2: Park and I was like, when is it performed? I
- 29:48Speaker 2: like tomorrow.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so.
- 29:54Speaker 2: I practiced like whole night. Yeah, because I need to
- 29:59Speaker 2: practice like perform like perfect. I don't want to get
- 30:02Speaker 2: a mistake so.
- 30:05Speaker 2: And then the result day I was like practicing in
- 30:10Speaker 2: music room, but they told me like, oh, I want
- 30:13Speaker 2: you to practice with the dress also and I was like.
- 30:17Speaker 2: OK, cool. So I perform, so I practiced and I
- 30:21Speaker 2: think it's like 10 minutes, the, the cameraman just come
- 30:26Speaker 2: in the room and I was like, am I supposed
- 30:28Speaker 2: to be here? And there's like more, more, more, it's
- 30:31Speaker 2: like 20 people. Yeah, the entire teams. And I was like,
- 30:35Speaker 2: am I supposed to be here or am I supposed
- 30:37Speaker 2: to leave? And then like the, the sound engineer, like
- 30:42Speaker 2: about taking care of Mike come to me and said like,
- 30:45Speaker 2: OK, I'm gonna put your mic on it and I
- 30:47Speaker 2: was like, what is it for? And I said, oh,
- 30:50Speaker 2: it's for interview some stuff and I was like, really?
- 30:54Speaker 2: Because in my schedule it doesn't say any interview and
- 30:56Speaker 2: I was like, oh, they just make a messed up.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I was like, OK, cool.
- 31:00Speaker 2: So they put the mic on and then they said, OK,
- 31:03Speaker 2: you're gonna do a practice by yourself and I'm going
- 31:06Speaker 2: to check the sound, but actually they already recorded, so
- 31:11Speaker 2: they lied to me and then all the and then
- 31:14Speaker 2: the team other teams about the cameraman just come to
- 31:17Speaker 2: me and said, oh, and also there's like a friend
- 31:20Speaker 2: like our act like America's Got Talent and Friends just
- 31:23Speaker 2: like want to jam with you and I was like,
- 31:25Speaker 2: you know, it's like a jam session. So I was like, OK.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Cool, and when I started practicing, Linkin Par just came
- 31:34Speaker 2: in and I was like.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Did you stop or
- 31:38Speaker 2: do you
- 31:38Speaker 2: keep going?
- 31:40Speaker 2: I almost faint. I was like.
- 31:43Speaker 2: What the hell is going on? What the heck is
- 31:44Speaker 2: going on? I saw Mike, um, Emily, Joey, uh, Dave,
- 31:53Speaker 1: Phoenix.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and I was like shocked. And I was like,
- 32:00Speaker 2: it's just a jam session, but I didn't expect like
- 32:04Speaker 2: I'm going to perform like collab with them. So Lingy
- 32:07Speaker 2: Park just talked to me, said, I heard that you're
- 32:10Speaker 2: practicing our songs, the emptiness Machine. So we decided to
- 32:14Speaker 2: play with you guys in the performance. I was like.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Yeah. What? And then we just practice like 3 minutes
- 32:24Speaker 2: before we go on stage and then done.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Beautiful. Amazing stuff. I'm gonna ask you one more question
- 32:30Speaker 1: and then you can play for us a song here
- 32:31Speaker 1: live on 987, OK? Given how you're going worldwide now,
- 32:35Speaker 1: what is the one thing you miss about home? Thai food.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Thai food from Thailand always slaps, never goes wrong.
- 32:44Speaker 1: You know what, Nene, get the guitar ready. We need
- 32:46Speaker 1: to hear you live on 987. I'm gonna bring my
- 32:48Speaker 1: mic down. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, if you're
- 32:52Speaker 1: tuned in live here on the show, this is an exclusive,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and I'm really glad we made this happen. So a
- 32:58Speaker 1: big thank you to Nene's team, to 987's team. Our
- 33:01Speaker 1: music director Sheikh is in the studio to make sure
- 33:03Speaker 1: the guitar sounds good.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I'm guessing you're playing the song that you love to perform, Zombie,
- 33:09Speaker 1: by The Cranberries. Will you be doing that for us
- 33:11Speaker 1: or something else?
- 33:13Speaker 2: I don't mind.
- 33:14Speaker 1: She doesn't mind. OK,
- 33:16Speaker 2: I can play two songs. I don't mind because I, I,
- 33:18Speaker 2: I practice one song and you said zombie, so I
- 33:21Speaker 2: can play two songs.
- 33:22Speaker 1: You
- 33:22Speaker 1: know what? Do whatever you want. The stage is yours.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Take it. If you wanna play 5 songs. I'm just kidding.
- 33:27Speaker 2: OK.
- 33:27Speaker 1: 2 is good. 2 is
- 33:28Speaker 1: good, or 1.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I'll do the songs that I always practice that I
- 33:31Speaker 2: always perform in the AGT.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Alright, here we go. Take it away. It's Ninny Royal.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey ma.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Oh,
- 35:07Speaker 2: alright.
- 35:08Speaker 1: How was that? That was amazing. OK, you said you
- 35:11Speaker 1: have one more for us. You know what? I'm not
- 35:14Speaker 1: gonna stop you. You're, you're in your rhythm now. Take
- 35:16Speaker 1: it away, go for it. I cannot
- 35:18Speaker 1: wait.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Thank
- 36:13Speaker 1: you.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Need it at all. That was Nene Royal, and really, Nene,
- 36:20Speaker 1: thank you for making this unk very happy here on 987. I,
- 36:23Speaker 1: I could just cry again to the team. Thank you
- 36:26Speaker 1: all very much for having her in the studio to
