We've learned greetings, numbers, family words... today we're adding some color to our Swahili. Luna: Oh, I love that! Colors are so useful. Lucas: Absolutely. Let's start with a simple one: nyekundu. That means red. Luna: Nyekundu. Lucas: Good. Nyekundu. Say it again? Luna: Nyekundu. Lucas: There you go. Now, imagine a red apple. Tufaha nyekundu. Luna: Tufaha nyekundu. A red apple. Lucas: Exactly. Next color: bluu. Blue. Luna: Bluu. That sounds like 'blue' but with a Swahili twist. Lucas: Yep. Very close. Bluu. Say it? Luna: Bluu. Lucas: Perfect. So a blue sky is anga la bluu. Luna: Anga la bluu. Blue sky. Lucas: Now for yellow: manjano. Luna: Manjano. Lucas: Nice. Manjano. Think of a yellow banana. Ndizi manjano. Luna: Ndizi manjano. Yellow banana. Lucas: Great. Let's practice with a full sentence. Rangi hii ni nyekundu. This color is red. Luna: Rangi hii ni nyekundu. Lucas: Good. Now say: This color is blue. Luna: Rangi hii ni bluu. Lucas: Perfect. And this color is yellow? Luna: Rangi hii ni manjano. Lucas: You got it. Let's do a quick scene. I point to something red. You say 'Rangi hii ni nyekundu.' Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Points to a red book. Rangi hii ni? Luna: Nyekundu. Lucas: Full sentence? Luna: Rangi hii ni nyekundu. Lucas: Yes! Now I point to a blue cup. Luna: Rangi hii ni bluu. Lucas: Excellent. And a yellow flower? Luna: Rangi hii ni manjano. Lucas: You're a natural! Let's review the three colors. Nyekundu? Luna: Red. Lucas: Bluu? Luna: Blue. Lucas: Manjano? Luna: Yellow. Lucas: Awesome. Now remember we learned 'mama' and 'baba' before? What about a red dress? Mama ana vazi nyekundu. Luna: Mama ana vazi nyekundu. Mom has a red dress. Lucas: Nice connection. Or baba ana shati la bluu. Luna: Baba ana shati la bluu. Dad has a blue shirt. Lucas: Love it. Let's say all three together. Repeat after me: nyekundu, bluu, manjano. Luna: Nyekundu, bluu, manjano. Lucas: One more time: nyekundu, bluu, manjano. Luna: Nyekundu, bluu, manjano. Lucas: Perfect. So next time you see a red car, you can say gari nyekundu. Blue car? Gari la bluu. Yellow car?
