- 0:22to lead us through today's journey, here is your
- 0:27host. Welcome to the Voices of Life Did You Know
- 0:33series. I'm Pastor David. Today is September
- 0:3828th, a date that carries stories of cooperation,
- 0:41healing, and resilience. Three moments, three
- 0:45different worlds, one thread. People working
- 0:48together when the world demands more than one
- 0:51person can give. On September 28, 1781, the American
- 0:56and French Allied Army moved from Williamsburg
- 0:59and began the siege of Yorktown. It didn't end
- 1:03in a day. It didn't turn on a single moment.
- 1:06It was weeks of preparation, shared strategy,
- 1:11and cooperation across nations. Washington's
- 1:15troops, Rochambeau's troops, the French fleet
- 1:19blocking the British escape, Engineers digging
- 1:23trenches, artillery teams working through the
- 1:27night. Victory came later, October 19th, but
- 1:31the work began today. Yorktown reminds us change
- 1:37often starts quietly, with people choosing to
- 1:40work together long before anyone sees the result.
- 1:47On September 28th, 1928, Alexander Fleming noticed
- 1:53something small. A mold on a dish that killed
- 1:58the bacteria around it. He named the substance
- 2:02penicillin. But the story didn't stop with him.
- 2:07Years later, Howard Flory, Ernst Chain, Norman
- 2:12Heatley, and a whole team of researchers turned
- 2:16that observation into a medicine. They can be
- 2:20produced, tested, and used to save lives. Discovery,
- 2:26research, collaboration, and healing. Penicillin
- 2:30reminds us God often works through teams, not
- 2:35just moments, through people who carry the work
- 2:38forward so others can be healed. And penicillin
- 2:42was an amazing breakthrough. And finally, on
- 2:45September 28, 2022, Hurricane Eon made landfall
- 2:51near Cayo Costa as a Category 4 storm with winds
- 2:57of 150 mph. Storm surge reached 12 to 18 feet
- 3:03in parts of southwest Florida like Fort Myers.
- 3:07Fort Myers recorded a storm surge of over 7 feet
- 3:11above ground. Homes were lost. Neighborhoods
- 3:15flooded. Churches damaged. Lives changed. But
- 3:19something else happened too. Neighbors checked
- 3:23on neighbors. Churches became supply centers.
- 3:27Volunteers cleared roads, served meals, and prayed
- 3:30with families who didn't know where to begin.
- 3:34We also found out that where they said the maximum
- 3:37sustained wind in the central part of the state
- 3:40could be no higher than 110, and in fact with
- 3:44Ian, I believe it went up to... almost 130. So
- 3:48learn something new. Ian reminds us resilience
- 3:52is not a feeling. It is a community choosing
- 3:56to stand together when the waters rise and the
- 3:59future feels uncertain. September 28th teaches
- 4:03us three truths. Cooperation builds change. Collaboration
- 4:10brings healing. And community carries resilience.
- 4:16Yorktown shows us the power of working together.
- 4:20Penicillin shows us the power of shared discovery.
- 4:25Hurricane Ian shows us the power of neighbors
- 4:28serving neighbors when the storm hits home. Wherever
- 4:33you are today, whatever you're facing, remember
- 4:35this. God often works through people together
- 4:39to bring hope, healing, and restoration. Until
- 4:44next time, stay faithful, stay grounded, and
- 4:48keep listening for the voice that leads you forward.
