- 0:05Speaker: Hello, hello, SojoJers.
- 0:07Speaker: I'm your host, Dave Light, and welcome to Travel with a Purpose, a podcast designed to keep SoJarners and friends informed, entertained, and inspired.
- 0:24Speaker: In today's episode, I'm talking about a path that turns ordinary travel into extraordinary purpose.
- 0:32Speaker: I'm sharing some thoughts about why being a part of the national evangelism with sojourners is important and rewarding.
- 0:42Speaker: Perhaps you've reached a time of your life where you begin to ask, what now?
- 0:47Speaker: You've worked hard, you've raised a family, you've invested in others, and now there is time.
- 0:54Speaker: Time to travel, time to explore, and time to serve.
- 1:00Speaker: But what if that time could also become one of the most meaningful seasons of your life?
- 1:06Speaker: What if your travels were not just about seeing new places, but about strengthening churches, encouraging believers, and sharing the hope we have in Christ.
- 1:19Speaker: There's something powerful about realizing that our journey does not end when one period of life closes.
- 1:27Speaker: In many ways, it opens wider, it becomes richer, it becomes more intentional.
- 1:34Speaker: As followers of Christ, we are already called to serve.
- 1:40Speaker: That calling does not retire, it does not slow down, it simply changes shape.
- 1:48Speaker: Sojourning gives us a way to step into that calling with clarity, direction, and community.
- 1:55Speaker: Sojourners is built on a simple but profound idea.
- 2:00Speaker: We go where we are needed, and we serve where we are planted.
- 2:05Speaker: We travel with a purpose, and that purpose is first to evangelize, and it is to serve.
- 2:14Speaker: For those who may not be familiar with sojourners, we're a network of Christians who use their mobility to strengthen congregations and communities across our great nation.
- 2:27Speaker: Many sojourners travel in RVs, although it's not a requirement.
- 2:32Speaker: Some locate temporarily in an area, but we all share one thing in common, a heart of service.
- 2:40Speaker: And the needs are real.
- 2:42Speaker: Small congregations need encouragement.
- 2:45Speaker: Churches between ministers need someone to step in.
- 2:49Speaker: Communities need outreach, and individuals need connection.
- 2:55Speaker: Sojourners step into those places and many more.
- 3:00Speaker: Sometimes what we do looks like preaching on Sunday mornings or teaching a class or leading a Bible study.
- 3:08Speaker: Sometimes it's helping organize outreach efforts.
- 3:12Speaker: Sometimes it's simply being present, listening, encouraging, and walking alongside others.
- 3:19Speaker: And sometimes it's painting, plumbing, building, repairing, and cleaning.
- 3:26Speaker: Our service reminds us that church is not confined to a building.
- 3:31Speaker: It is alive wherever God's people are willing to serve.
- 3:37Speaker: Being a member of Sojourners is important because it transforms individual effort into shared mission.
- 3:44Speaker: We all have a desire to serve.
- 3:47Speaker: Many of us have the willingness.
- 3:49Speaker: What others need is connection and direction, and that's exactly what sojourners provide.
- 3:56Speaker: We become part of a community that understands the heart behind traveling with purpose.
- 4:03Speaker: There are people who encourage us, pray with us, and walk alongside us even when we're miles apart.
- 4:10Speaker: There are needs we would never discover on our own.
- 4:15Speaker: Sojourners connect us to congregations and ministries that are praying for help.
- 4:20Speaker: We don't have to guess where to serve.
- 4:23Speaker: We're stepping into places that are truly needed.
- 4:27Speaker: And we're not sent out alone.
- 4:30Speaker: There is guidance, structure, and shared wisdom from others who have walked this road before us and are now walking with us.
- 4:40Speaker: Sojourning keeps us grounded.
- 4:42Speaker: Travel can easily become comfortable and convenient.
- 4:46Speaker: But sojourning gently reminds us that our purpose travels with us.
- 4:51Speaker: It's a commitment to live intentionally for God's purpose wherever we go.
- 4:57Speaker: Oh, and by the way, it is rewarding.
- 5:01Speaker: There's a kind of joy that only comes from serving others.
- 5:05Speaker: When that service is woven into our everyday life and travel, it becomes even more meaningful.
- 5:13Speaker: We begin to see God working in ways we may never have noticed before.
- 5:19Speaker: We see faith thriving in small congregations.
- 5:23Speaker: We witness resilience in fellow Christians that continue to serve with limited resources.
- 5:30Speaker: We experience gratitude from people who simply needed someone to show up.
- 5:36Speaker: And often the greatest reward is not what we give, but what gives back to us through the experience.
- 5:45Speaker: We gain a renewed purpose.
- 5:48Speaker: Every sojourn becomes meaningful.
- 5:51Speaker: Every interaction has value.
- 5:53Speaker: We gain deeper faith.
- 5:56Speaker: We rely on God in new ways.
- 5:59Speaker: We trust Him with our steps, our schedules, and our service.
- 6:03Speaker: We build lasting relationships.
- 6:06Speaker: We meet people who leave a lasting imprint on our lives.
- 6:10Speaker: Fellow sojourners become lifelong friends, and congregations become extended families, and we gain perspective.
- 6:18Speaker: We're reminded that God is working everywhere, not just in large places or well known congregations, but in quiet towns, small congregations, and silent but faithful ministries.
- 6:33Speaker: Most of all, there is a fulfillment that comes from knowing that our journey matters in eternity.
- 6:41Speaker: We long to hear from our Lord.
- 6:43Speaker: Well done, good and faithful servant.
- 6:46Speaker: There is also a real life impact.
- 6:51Speaker: Imagine a congregation that has been praying for help.
- 6:55Speaker: They have been faithful and continue to meet and serve.
- 6:59Speaker: Yet they're stretched in their resources and faith.
- 7:03Speaker: They're stretched, and they need encouragement.
- 7:07Speaker: Then the sojourners arrive, ready to serve, ready to listen, ready to strengthen.
- 7:15Speaker: And in that moment, prayer is answered.
- 7:19Speaker: That is what happens again and again through sojourners.
- 7:24Speaker: God uses willing people in the right place and at the right time.
- 7:29Speaker: And it's not because we're extraordinary, but because we are available.
- 7:35Speaker: That is the beauty of this work.
- 7:37Speaker: It reminds us that God does not ask us to be everything.
- 7:43Speaker: He asks us to be faithful and willing.
- 7:47Speaker: Perhaps you're wondering what comes next in your life.
- 7:50Speaker: Perhaps you have time, resources, and a desire to serve.
- 7:55Speaker: And perhaps you have even felt that quiet nudge, that sense that God is not finished with you yet.
- 8:02Speaker: This may be your opportunity.
- 8:05Speaker: You do not have to have all the answers or great skills.
- 8:10Speaker: You don't have to be a gifted speaker or a personal worker.
- 8:14Speaker: You simply need a willing heart.
- 8:17Speaker: A heart ready to go where God sends, a heart ready to serve where there is need, a heart ready to love the people placed in your path.
- 8:27Speaker: There is a place for you in sojourning.

- 9:02Speaker: Being part of Sojourners is not just about the miles we travel, it's about the lives we touch along the way and the lives that touch us.
- 9:13Speaker: It's about choosing to live with purpose.
- 9:16Speaker: It's about saying, wherever I go, I will serve.
- 9:21Speaker: And when we live that way, every journey becomes meaningful.
