- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into jag Vam this Wednesday, and Ka, Nannie Stevens,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Brian Sexton, and John Oser are with me as we
- 0:22Speaker 1: get prepared for the home game against the Colts this week.
- 0:24Speaker 2: We're gonna talk about the Jaguars.
- 0:26Speaker 1: What needs to change going into this week if they
- 0:28Speaker 1: want to get their first win of the year.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Let's start out with our big things. Big thing number one.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Is psych as in, what is the psyche of the
- 0:34Speaker 1: team right now? Brian, we heard from Dug Peterson yesterday
- 0:37Speaker 1: talked a lot about the mental and what they need
- 0:40Speaker 1: to focus on and kind of getting in the right
- 0:42Speaker 1: frame of mind with the team right now because obviously
- 0:45Speaker 1: a lot of negativity swirling around, but they need to
- 0:47Speaker 1: focus on what they need to focus on right now,
- 0:50Speaker 1: which is getting a win.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Put some help is not on the way.
- 0:53Speaker 4: It's got to come from within there, which means that
- 0:55Speaker 4: these guys have to look in word, each person individually.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Dug manshift he feels like an amateur psychologists. I'm sure
- 1:01Speaker 3: you both do too, when you're out talking to people
- 1:04Speaker 3: and they're like, what is wrong with this team?
- 1:06Speaker 4: I'm ready to burn my jersey or throw my tickets overboard.
- 1:10Speaker 4: I mean, we have heard all these things in recent weeks,
- 1:13Speaker 4: and the reality of it is is that we've talked
- 1:16Speaker 4: about this not being a resilient team, and the only
- 1:18Speaker 4: way that you build any sort of resilience is to
- 1:20Speaker 4: be honest with yourself. Here's who I am, what I am,
- 1:24Speaker 4: what I'm not doing, what I should be doing. The
- 1:26Speaker 4: psyche of this team needs to be fleshed out. That's
- 1:30Speaker 4: what coaches do, right, But everybody John has to be
- 1:33Speaker 4: their own coach and lead themselves through this period right now.
- 1:38Speaker 3: It's tough.
- 1:38Speaker 4: It's tough when you walk into the building in the
- 1:40Speaker 4: morning and you know that the meeting isn't going to
- 1:41Speaker 4: go well. It's tough when you walk out and you
- 1:43Speaker 4: go through publics and someone says, man, what's.
- 1:45Speaker 3: The matter with you guys? Right now? It's not gonna
- 1:48Speaker 3: get any easier. I lead with this.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Winston Churchill once said, if you're going through hell, just
- 1:53Speaker 4: keep going, just get through it.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I've been going a long time.
- 2:00Speaker 3: There's a lot of people that believe that the.
- 2:03Speaker 5: We said two weeks ago the time for talk is over,
- 2:05Speaker 5: and we're two weeks later, so the time for talk
- 2:08Speaker 5: is really over. And that's why it's kind of tough
- 2:11Speaker 5: to answer any of these questions. It's why it's tough
- 2:13Speaker 5: when they stand on the podium answer questions because there's
- 2:16Speaker 5: not much more to say. I I said on Monday
- 2:19Speaker 5: that it was now about pride. You don't wanna be
- 2:22Speaker 5: saying that after four weeks because when you say it's
- 2:24Speaker 5: all about pride, it means you're not talking about the playoffs.
- 2:26Speaker 5: It there's two p words. Pride's the one you not
- 2:29Speaker 5: wanna be using in October. But unfortunately it's about pride.
- 2:34Speaker 5: So psych right now is that can you figure out
- 2:38Speaker 5: a way to make this matter enough to play as
- 2:41Speaker 5: a team, to know that you've only been a player
- 2:43Speaker 5: two away and make those big plays?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Can they do that?
- 2:47Speaker 5: That's what we're gonna be going to the game on
- 2:50Speaker 5: Sunday to find out our.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Second big thing is gonna be streaky. There are two
- 2:54Speaker 1: streets that are gonna combine it on Sunday. Teams lost
- 2:58Speaker 1: four games in a row, but they've also it's well
- 3:00Speaker 1: beaten the Indianapolis Colts at home here in Jacksonville for
- 3:03Speaker 1: over a decade.
- 3:04Speaker 2: John.
- 3:04Speaker 1: We talked about this, uh last week when I was
- 3:06Speaker 1: trying to figure out what the date was exactly, but
- 3:09Speaker 1: it was September of twenty fourteen the last time this
- 3:12Speaker 1: team lost to the Indianapolis Colts. Does that mean anything
- 3:15Speaker 1: this week or is this a matter of where the
- 3:17Speaker 1: team's at right now?
- 3:18Speaker 6: Well?
- 3:18Speaker 5: It it means a little something because the Jaguars players
- 3:23Speaker 5: in this locker room, Uh, who have beaten the Colts
- 3:26Speaker 5: and who beat them twice last year. Uh, they certainly
- 3:33Speaker 5: believe and know that this is a team that they
- 3:36Speaker 5: can beat. Does it matter in terms of Indianapolis's and
- 3:41Speaker 5: I think less accept it. As as Mike Chappell, who
- 3:45Speaker 5: I talked about the Colts every year.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I go back with him twenty years. He knows the Colts.
- 3:48Speaker 5: He said, Look, streaks or streaks until they're not so
- 3:52Speaker 5: until the Colts break it, Somewhere in their mind during
- 3:55Speaker 5: the game, they're thinking, we don't win down here s
- 3:57Speaker 5: So yeah, it helps. But guess what, Bryan, most streaks
- 4:02Speaker 5: that have ever happened in the NFL aren't ongoing, right, No, Yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 5: so at some point they end, and you know, nine
- 4:11Speaker 5: straight years, at some point, this one's gonna end.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Let's hope it's not Sunday.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And you know, if you go back to the Colts
- 4:19Speaker 4: were a better team when they rolled in here for
- 4:22Speaker 4: the final game in twenty twenty one, a much better
- 4:24Speaker 4: tam In fact, they were a playoff team if they
- 4:26Speaker 4: just won the ball game and they got beat by
- 4:29Speaker 4: a team with an interim coach who had every reason
- 4:32Speaker 4: just to sort of let it go because they knew
- 4:34Speaker 4: that everything was going to change the next year, and
- 4:36Speaker 4: they didn't. So this really it kind of goes back
- 4:39Speaker 4: to what we were talking about. Who's better focused this week?
- 4:43Speaker 4: Who comes down and can execute the game plan and
- 4:45Speaker 4: not let the distractions of either being zero to four
- 4:49Speaker 4: or coming off a big win over the Steelers, or
- 4:51Speaker 4: you know, not having this player or having that player
- 4:54Speaker 4: who can execute the game plan.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Our final big thing today is going to be somebody
- 4:59Speaker 1: we talked a lot about what who and haven't been
- 5:02Speaker 1: doing what they needed to do, But who can step
- 5:04Speaker 1: up here? Brian, We've talked a lot about some of
- 5:06Speaker 1: these players stepping in for other injured players. Who's that
- 5:09Speaker 1: somebody that's going to make the play and make a difference.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Well, I really believe that Dentro Miller showed us last
- 5:15Speaker 4: week that he is capable.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Of being a front line player.
- 5:19Speaker 4: We've been talking about interceptions or forced fumbles or fumbles recovered.
- 5:23Speaker 4: I saw him in the preseason with some limited snaps,
- 5:28Speaker 4: knocked the ball free. I saw him as somebody who
- 5:31Speaker 4: is a play maker, and I think he's a guy
- 5:35Speaker 4: just one game starting under his belt, but a guy
- 5:37Speaker 4: who plays with such great intensity and speed that he
- 5:40Speaker 4: could be that somebody that turns things around on Sunday.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Well, you need the quarterback to do it, and that'll
- 5:47Speaker 5: be an ongoing story until it's not clearly. Brian Thomas
- 5:50Speaker 5: Junior has shown that he has the ability to make
- 5:53Speaker 5: plays above the ex's and o's. That's really right now.
- 5:57Speaker 5: What's kind of held the team back in a lot
- 5:58Speaker 5: of ways. I don't know how many players they have
- 6:01Speaker 5: right now who are showing they can do that. So
- 6:04Speaker 5: I'll go on offense. Brian Thomas Junior. He has done
- 6:07Speaker 5: it already. But he is perfectly capable and probably the
- 6:11Speaker 5: most capable player in this team. Last eight minutes of
- 6:14Speaker 5: a game, when plays have to be made, special has
- 6:18Speaker 5: to be special. He's got the capability of doing it,
- 6:21Speaker 5: has shown a propensity to do it. He's going to
- 6:24Speaker 5: get better and better at it. Maybe this is the
- 6:26Speaker 5: week that he's on. Whatever the highlight shows are called now,
- 6:30Speaker 5: but he's the one people who are talking about after
- 6:32Speaker 5: the game. It's time he can do it.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I think he will, all right, say with us here
- 6:36Speaker 1: on jag Zam, we're going to look forward to the
- 6:38Speaker 1: rest of the week what we think is going to
- 6:39Speaker 1: happen in the game on Sunday.

- 10:22Speaker 1: We're going to talk a little bit about what we
- 10:24Speaker 1: will see from the team against the Colts this week,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and also a little bit about the Jaguars and what
- 10:27Speaker 1: they just need to work on as a whole. Obviously
- 10:30Speaker 1: a lot to work on on both sides of the football.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Talked a little bit about Trevor Lawrence and where he's at,
- 10:34Speaker 1: and we kind of expect a little bit more of him. Obviously,
- 10:37Speaker 1: kind of in the funk right now as the whole
- 10:38Speaker 1: team is that they've gone zero to four. So first
- 10:41Speaker 1: this or that is a little bit about kind of
- 10:43Speaker 1: getting Trevor out of that funk when you're going forward.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Does that mean giving him the ball more or does
- 10:48Speaker 1: that mean kind of focusing on the run and taking
- 10:50Speaker 1: a little bit of pressure off.
- 10:53Speaker 3: That's a great question.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Well, Doug told us in his news conference that he's
- 10:58Speaker 4: probably given the ball more.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I mean, this is quarterback.
- 11:01Speaker 4: The whole framework of the future is built around him.
- 11:04Speaker 3: The salary cap is tied to him. You need to
- 11:06Speaker 3: work him through it.
- 11:07Speaker 4: I mean the run obviously helps, but I would say
- 11:11Speaker 4: give them the ball more. Let's go and see if
- 11:13Speaker 4: you can't dial it in.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you have to.
- 11:16Speaker 5: And even beyond philosophical long term stuff, this offense is
- 11:21Speaker 5: really not set up to take the ball out of
- 11:24Speaker 5: the quarterback's hands and just grind. To me a physical offense.
- 11:27Speaker 5: It can run, but I don't know that it's an offense.
- 11:30Speaker 5: It's going to run consistently if the other team after
- 11:33Speaker 5: the first quarter figures out, Hey, all these guys want
- 11:35Speaker 5: to do is run. You know, this offense needs to
- 11:38Speaker 5: have the threat of the pass to make that work.
- 11:41Speaker 5: So look at Trevor's the quarterback. There are weapons around him.
- 11:46Speaker 5: It's built to be a balanced Doug Peterson type offense.
- 11:51Speaker 5: I don't think you can all of a sudden turn
- 11:52Speaker 5: into three yards in a cloud of dust.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Delicate balance between the two on the defensive side of
- 11:57Speaker 1: the ball. Talked a little bit about the pass rushant
- 11:59Speaker 1: getting home a ton this year. Josh heines Allen currently
- 12:02Speaker 1: in the concussion protocols, so we don't know what his
- 12:04Speaker 1: availability might be this week.
- 12:06Speaker 2: So when you're.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Looking at the pass rush, what are some things that
- 12:10Speaker 1: they can do? Do you think they should try to
- 12:12Speaker 1: what's more, focus more on stunts or just kind of
- 12:14Speaker 1: do what they've been doing and try to keep that going.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Do we have the answers?
- 12:19Speaker 1: I know I'm asking questions at the coach to figure out,
- 12:22Speaker 1: but I.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Thought the rush was better as the game went on
- 12:25Speaker 5: on Sunday. I think that's what makes some of these
- 12:27Speaker 5: questions tough, because we're looking at it zero to four
- 12:32Speaker 5: is bad and sort of panicky. They did a lot
- 12:35Speaker 5: of things better on Sunday that if they continue to
- 12:38Speaker 5: do those things they can get progressively better. Their problem, Brian,
- 12:43Speaker 5: is they can't win four games.
- 12:44Speaker 3: On second So that's a problem.
- 12:47Speaker 5: So you're in this hole, and the key is really
- 12:49Speaker 5: being patient and continuing to get better at these things
- 12:53Speaker 5: and make those few plays at the end. In terms
- 12:55Speaker 5: of the pass rush, I don't expect Ryan Nielsen to start,
- 12:59Speaker 5: let's say, with you know, weird exotic blitzes. This team
- 13:05Speaker 5: again was built for this front to win rushing forward.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Well, like where Roberts and Harris is in this dish.
- 13:11Speaker 3: All right, that was a mismatch.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Kenyan Green, the left guard, had won three or four
- 13:17Speaker 4: penalties holding off sides, and Roy got up in his
- 13:20Speaker 4: head and just pushed him, I mean just bull rushed him. Yeah,
- 13:23Speaker 4: but listen, they know strategy better than me. But I
- 13:27Speaker 4: think i'd get Eric Armstead inside, especially if you have
- 13:30Speaker 4: Josh we'll find out about him and.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Trayvon on the outside because he's just you see him.
- 13:37Speaker 4: He's this massive man who had great success as an
- 13:41Speaker 4: interior pass rusher when he was in San Francisco and
- 13:45Speaker 4: I would look for ways to put him back at
- 13:47Speaker 4: his position of strength.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I know they've been using him more in different.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Techniques, but well, he looks like an inside rusher to me,
- 13:53Speaker 4: and put him and Roy next to each other and
- 13:54Speaker 4: see if you can't find some mismatches on players that
- 13:56Speaker 4: can't handle that size and length.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Yeah, with the pass rush, it truly feels. You know,
- 14:01Speaker 5: you had Ventrel Miller who's stepped up, you had Monteric
- 14:04Speaker 5: Brown who stepped up. I don't know if there's a
- 14:06Speaker 5: specific guy ready to step up on that level, maybe
- 14:10Speaker 5: Miles Cole.
- 14:11Speaker 2: That's asking a lot of.
- 14:12Speaker 5: A rookie to give you huge push as as an
- 14:17Speaker 5: edge pass rusher. The guys who are supposed to be
- 14:20Speaker 5: the core of this thing have to get home.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I agree.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Back to the offensive side of the ball, we saw
- 14:25Speaker 1: some impressive runs from Tank Bigsby in that game versus
- 14:28Speaker 1: the Texans. He only had seven carries, but he had
- 14:30Speaker 1: of course a couple explosive plays there. Do you think
- 14:33Speaker 1: this turns into a little more even carries between Etn
- 14:37Speaker 1: and Tank or do you think Eten should still be
- 14:39Speaker 1: the main back for the team.
- 14:41Speaker 2: That's gonna be tough.
- 14:43Speaker 5: I think you're seeing the balance they want and Tank's
- 14:47Speaker 5: effectiveness within that balance. I don't know yet if he
- 14:51Speaker 5: is ready for a more full time role in terms
- 14:55Speaker 5: of doing everything that Travis can do in terms of
- 14:57Speaker 5: pass protection, in terms of pass being involved in the
- 15:01Speaker 5: whole offense. And the coach ha didne a nice job,
- 15:03Speaker 5: Brian of using Tank when he can be really effective
- 15:08Speaker 5: and he's maximized those opportunities. Do they want to steer
- 15:13Speaker 5: toward Tank being in more and tipping that they want
- 15:17Speaker 5: to go those directions? I don't know how far you
- 15:20Speaker 5: can lean toward that yet, but boy has been effective.
- 15:23Speaker 2: When he's running.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Yeah, if your offensive line, especially the inside, is strong,
- 15:29Speaker 4: I mean, you play like the sixty seven Packers and almost.
- 15:32Speaker 3: But we're gonna run right here.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I don't know who they are yet.
- 15:34Speaker 3: No, No, I don't think so either.
- 15:37Speaker 4: What I like about Tank is what we saw on
- 15:39Speaker 4: the twenty two yard run right, start inside, pop it outside.
- 15:42Speaker 4: He is just a to me, he's a more complete running.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Back, right.
- 15:47Speaker 4: I think he's more effective as an every down sort
- 15:52Speaker 4: of running back. But he's not the athlete that Travis is.
- 15:56Speaker 4: He's not the explosive playmaker that Travis is. And this
- 16:00Speaker 4: team doesn't yet trust him like they do Travis, so

- 20:09Speaker 1: Welcome back into jags A and we're gonna talk a
- 20:11Speaker 1: little bit about what's been going on in the AFC South.
- 20:13Speaker 1: We're not gonna put salt in the wounds because obviously
- 20:16Speaker 1: we know what the records are at the situation. But
- 20:18Speaker 1: the Titans did get their first win of the season
- 20:20Speaker 1: last night on Monday Night Football Battle the backup quarterbacks
- 20:24Speaker 1: Titans and Dolphins, Will Levis kind of knocking himself out
- 20:27Speaker 1: here when the shoulder in Jersey tried to dive for
- 20:29Speaker 1: the first down, Bason Rudolph came in, led the charge,
- 20:32Speaker 1: and Titans got their first win of the season. That
- 20:34Speaker 1: means the Jaguars are the only winless team in the
- 20:37Speaker 1: NFL right now. Interesting to see.
- 20:40Speaker 2: I haven't seen any reports about.
- 20:41Speaker 1: What this extent of Levis's injury it's gonna be, but
- 20:46Speaker 1: interesting quarterback situations throughout the rest.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Of the division besides C. J. Stroud pretty much.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Well, it feels this was a game last night where
- 20:54Speaker 5: right now the Titans backup is as good or better
- 20:57Speaker 5: than their starter.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Way with the experience with the starter in well, I
- 21:04Speaker 5: was still developing, and then you played a Dolphins team
- 21:07Speaker 5: that clearly is not as good without their starter, so
- 21:10Speaker 5: that kind of tipped the balance. I think if the
- 21:12Speaker 5: Jags had played the Dolphins without Tua, it's probably different outcomes.
- 21:17Speaker 2: So my sense is that.
- 21:21Speaker 5: From watching it, I would think that they want to
- 21:24Speaker 5: win short term right now, they probably lean toward Rudolph.
- 21:27Speaker 5: That seemed the feel, But that's the speculation for a
- 21:31Speaker 5: far Ryan.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm to be honest with you, I didn't see
- 21:33Speaker 4: the game, so I don't know that much about it.
- 21:36Speaker 4: I know that if I was the only winless team
- 21:37Speaker 4: in the NFL.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I'd be very motivated this week, I would hope so elsewhere.
- 21:41Speaker 1: As for our opponent this week, Anthony Richardson, the Colts quarterback,
- 21:45Speaker 1: left the game. Joe Flacco came in led the Colts
- 21:48Speaker 1: to a win over the Steelers, who hadn't lost yet
- 21:50Speaker 1: this season.
- 21:51Speaker 2: And the Colts are always dangerous.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I know there's that streak of them losing here in Jacksonville,
- 21:55Speaker 1: but at this point, not sure if Anthony Richardson's going
- 21:58Speaker 1: to play as a hit pointer, and they said it's
- 22:01Speaker 1: not an extreme injury, they do expect he could possibly
- 22:04Speaker 1: be available for the game. So it's either that or
- 22:06Speaker 1: Joe flaccol But those are two very different quarterbacks. And
- 22:09Speaker 1: as we know, Joe Flacco beat the team last year
- 22:11Speaker 1: when he was with the Browns.
- 22:12Speaker 5: Well, and he's very capful of doing that. He's very
- 22:16Speaker 5: capful of reading defenses and distributing the ball. And look,
- 22:21Speaker 5: the Colts come into this. If I'm the Coles, I
- 22:25Speaker 5: look at this as how to be three and two
- 22:27Speaker 5: after this? I mean, that's how they're thinking. They don't
- 22:29Speaker 5: care about the past. They're playing a winless Jaguars team.
- 22:33Speaker 5: They're two and two. They believe that they're a team
- 22:36Speaker 5: that's going to contend. They've got a quarterback that they
- 22:38Speaker 5: have paid to play in this situation, meaning Flacco or
- 22:41Speaker 5: and Richardson. I do stanswerm some Jaguars fans, even though
- 22:48Speaker 5: they're only four, they think this is like a little
- 22:49Speaker 5: bit of a given because of a streak. I don't
- 22:53Speaker 5: think anan's given right now.
- 22:54Speaker 3: No, it isn't. You know.
- 22:56Speaker 4: What works in their favor is that Jonathan Taylor can't
- 22:58Speaker 4: play and he sustained a high ankle scring last week
- 23:00Speaker 4: and that went over the Steelers and is questionable at
- 23:03Speaker 4: this point.
- 23:04Speaker 3: In fact, there was some talk.
- 23:05Speaker 4: In Indy about, you know, would they need ir for him?
- 23:08Speaker 4: So if he doesn't play, it changes the dynamic tremendously
- 23:12Speaker 4: because they've been waiting to get both Richardson and Jonathan
- 23:16Speaker 4: Taylor together because both of them are so dynamic on
- 23:20Speaker 4: their feet.
- 23:21Speaker 3: I'm not sure if this defense is ready for that.
- 23:23Speaker 4: But if you've got Flacco, it becomes a Josh Downs
- 23:27Speaker 4: and Michael Pittman, both of whom are good receivers, and
- 23:30Speaker 4: a quarterback who doesn't mind throwing the ball down the field.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Well, and we'll talk about this morning to Larow, I'm sure,
- 23:35Speaker 5: but the Colts defense is a really good defense when
- 23:39Speaker 5: they have all our guys right now.
- 23:41Speaker 2: They're really beat up, So.
- 23:44Speaker 5: The Jaguars should be able to take advantage of that
- 23:47Speaker 5: sort of a mismatch. But all those things that we
- 23:50Speaker 5: say should are hard to talk about when.
- 23:53Speaker 4: You're rolling four and this defense is potentially pretty beat
- 23:55Speaker 4: up too. I mean, no, Foyer, Lui come, we don't
- 23:57Speaker 4: know the status of Josh Heinz Allen.
- 23:59Speaker 5: And tyser On big time on their defensive line, which
- 24:02Speaker 5: is what they're built around.
- 24:04Speaker 2: That's where you ought to be able to have a
- 24:07Speaker 2: little bit of an edge.
- 24:08Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, let's be hout with it.
- 24:09Speaker 4: If the jag Wars are gonna win, they're gonna need
- 24:11Speaker 4: their quarterback to put.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Up points against this defense that's depleted. Absolutely, we'll dive
- 24:16Speaker 1: into that a little bit more on Thursday as we
- 24:17Speaker 1: look at the exact matchup against the Colts.
