- 2:00Speaker 3: County Commission President Lance Wheeler is here as well. But
- 2:04Speaker 3: let's turn our attention now. Let's Senator Shelley Moore Capito,
- 2:07Speaker 3: who's in the studio with us this morning. Senator, good morning,
- 2:09Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Good morning, nice to be here, Thank you.
- 2:12Speaker 3: For being here. And so you've got a lot of
- 2:14Speaker 3: events planned around the area to I mean all of
- 2:17Speaker 3: the state, but specifically in Charleston.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Day we do.
- 2:20Speaker 7: We have yesterday had a great visit in Morgantown at
- 2:23Speaker 7: WVU with the Archivist of the United States to talk
- 2:27Speaker 7: about archiving records and preserving our history.
- 2:30Speaker 5: That was really good.
- 2:32Speaker 7: Today we're just going to be moving around, going over
- 2:34Speaker 7: to a school later on, and then we're going to
- 2:37Speaker 7: see Green Power and see them at their manufacturing site
- 2:41Speaker 7: while they turn over the keys I believe, to a
- 2:43Speaker 7: school bus to one of our school superintendents, and on
- 2:46Speaker 7: and on.
- 2:47Speaker 5: So lots going on.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Always great to be back in West Virginia.
- 2:50Speaker 5: It's so nice, especially this time of year too.
- 2:54Speaker 7: Yeah, and just the tension level goes way down left
- 2:57Speaker 7: Washington on Friday for they let us out for campaigning
- 3:02Speaker 7: and a lot of people are campaigning.
- 3:04Speaker 5: I don't have a campaign this year, so I'm.
- 3:06Speaker 7: Doing a little bit of that for other people, but
- 3:08Speaker 7: also just moving around the state. Going to be in
- 3:11Speaker 7: southern West Virginia later on in the month, all around,
- 3:14Speaker 7: wheeling everywhere.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Senator, the whole world is watching the events overseas with
- 3:19Speaker 3: the Iranian attack on Israel. Give us your overall thoughts
- 3:23Speaker 3: on the whole situation.
- 3:24Speaker 7: Well, I have been and will continue to be a
- 3:26Speaker 7: stead fast supporter of Israel. I feel that Israel is
- 3:30Speaker 7: the lone democracy, the friend and ally of the United States.
- 3:34Speaker 7: And what we saw happen on October seventh, and that's
- 3:37Speaker 7: coming up, the one year anniversary of that horrible day
- 3:40Speaker 7: is coming up very shortly. To see the brutal attack
- 3:43Speaker 7: and killing of over one thousand Jews and others Americans
- 3:47Speaker 7: and others nationals. Also a lot of sexual violence that
- 3:52Speaker 7: is just appalling, hard to even imagine or even read about.
- 3:56Speaker 5: And then you have this.
- 3:57Speaker 7: Global conflict of Hesbala launching thousands of miss into northern Israel,
- 4:01Speaker 7: which is to displaced eighty thousand or more Israelis into
- 4:05Speaker 7: the southern I mean, if you've ever been to Israel,
- 4:07Speaker 7: and many West Virginians have. It's a very small country.
- 4:10Speaker 5: And so I think Israel has the right to protect itself.
- 4:13Speaker 7: And I'm going to defend their right to retaliate and
- 4:18Speaker 7: for their right to try to strive for peace and
- 4:22Speaker 7: tranquility there to end the terrorist attacks that are just
- 4:26Speaker 7: constant in that country. And that's what my position is
- 4:30Speaker 7: and will always be.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Talk about Senator Shelley Moore, Capito and Studio this morning. Senator,
- 4:35Speaker 3: there was a report that came out earlier this week about,
- 4:38Speaker 3: shall we say, some of these shortcomings that occurred by
- 4:40Speaker 3: the Secret Service on the date that former President Trump
- 4:44Speaker 3: survived the assassination attempt in July. You sent a letter
- 4:48Speaker 3: earlier this week. Talk about the letter that you sent,
- 4:51Speaker 3: and basically it was about beefing up technology and just
- 4:54Speaker 3: doing a better job over I'll talk about that.
- 4:55Speaker 7: You know, It's really amazing to me that I even
- 4:57Speaker 7: have to write a letter to call attention to the
- 4:59Speaker 7: secret US in the Department of Homeland Security about how
- 5:02Speaker 7: important coordinated communications are between locals and UH State security
- 5:10Speaker 7: of entities with the Secret Service during a presidential or
- 5:15Speaker 7: former president visit. I mean, we've had presidential visits here
- 5:19Speaker 7: in West Virginia numerous I mean George Bush came here
- 5:22Speaker 7: many many times. In President Trump came and I've I've
- 5:25Speaker 7: experienced that my staff has too to try to make
- 5:28Speaker 7: it as safe as possible, and uh, you know, to
- 5:31Speaker 7: think at the shortcomings that it looks like the Keystone cops.
- 5:35Speaker 7: I mean, they weren't even talking to one another. They
- 5:37Speaker 7: spotted somebody on the roof. The locals did they couldn't
- 5:39Speaker 7: even get the message to the Secret Service. The Secret
- 5:42Speaker 7: Service then decides, well, they here's somebody suspicious. He's got
- 5:45Speaker 7: arranged fineries on the top of the roof. Well, we're
- 5:47Speaker 7: not going to pull President Trump off the stage. We
- 5:49Speaker 7: don't really think it warrants that we had a drone,
- 5:52Speaker 7: we didn't know how to use it. We call the
- 5:53Speaker 7: one eight hundred number.
- 5:55Speaker 5: I mean, I was just.
- 5:58Speaker 7: Yes, yes, to try to figure out how to work
- 6:02Speaker 7: the drone when this guy who was the shooter had
- 6:05Speaker 7: already flown a drone over the area two or three
- 6:08Speaker 7: hours before.
- 6:09Speaker 3: And it just get a seven year old kid out
- 6:11Speaker 3: of the out of the crowd and tell and have
- 6:12Speaker 3: them explain it to you exactly to do.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Exactly they know how to do.
- 6:16Speaker 7: All that so I think my message to them to
- 6:20Speaker 7: the in my letter was to basically say, there's technologies
- 6:23Speaker 7: out there to get communication channels. You know, you don't
- 6:26Speaker 7: have to rely on texts. Sometimes techs aren't reliable, they
- 6:29Speaker 7: come through later. Uh, and so don't rely on texts,
- 6:33Speaker 7: do the do the old fashioned way, get the highest
- 6:35Speaker 7: technology possible through uh, through what's available. And and so
- 6:40Speaker 7: that was my plea to them to this should never
- 6:44Speaker 7: happen again. I mean it, they should be embarrassed. I'm
- 6:46Speaker 7: sure they are. Some have lost their jobs over it,
- 6:49Speaker 7: and should and uh. I think what we have to
- 6:52Speaker 7: remember with President Trump in particular, is there are forces
- 6:56Speaker 7: out there who really do want to end his life.
- 6:59Speaker 7: And I think think that's the stark reality here. And
- 7:02Speaker 7: to deny beefed up security for President Trump, I think
- 7:06Speaker 7: is another black mark on the performance of the Secret
- 7:12Speaker 7: Service and honestly President Biden, because they ask for beefed
- 7:16Speaker 7: up security in that particular instance and were denied it,
- 7:19Speaker 7: well you can see that was a bad decision.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Talking to you with Senator Shelley Moore, Cappado, the Dave
- 7:24Speaker 3: Allen showing five any line broad to you in part
- 7:25Speaker 3: by Meek's Realty Group as a locally owned real estate powerhouse.

- 7:39Speaker 3: commercial investment. Give them a call three zero four four
- 7:41Speaker 3: zero one one zero. Won Er visit Meeks dot us.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Just a couple of weeks from the election, as you
- 7:47Speaker 3: said to you or not, you're not campaigning this time around.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I know you're keeping an eye on all the races,
- 7:53Speaker 3: but particularly the race for the White House. We thought
- 7:56Speaker 3: it was going to be Biden v. Trump. Turns out
- 7:58Speaker 3: it's going to be Harris v. Trump.
- 8:00Speaker 7: Your thoughts, well, when I look back to June, the
- 8:03Speaker 7: whole discussion was ten million people here illegally under Biden's watch?
- 8:08Speaker 5: How could he possibly do that?
- 8:09Speaker 7: That's still a big topic and that's still a very
- 8:11Speaker 7: legitimate question that should be asked and they have no
- 8:15Speaker 7: answer to.
- 8:16Speaker 5: But we thought it was gonna be Biden.
- 8:17Speaker 8: Then we have the debate.
- 8:18Speaker 7: All of a sudden, it's pretty evident he can't serve
- 8:20Speaker 7: another four years, So then it changes that then President
- 8:24Speaker 7: Trump gets shot. Then Israel and Hesbela engage in aggressive actions,
- 8:32Speaker 7: missiles and such. I mean, the news cycle, I mean,
- 8:36Speaker 7: you're doing it all the time, is so short that
- 8:39Speaker 7: we don't know what's going to happen. People keep talking
- 8:41Speaker 7: about October surprise. Well, yesterday, Jack Smith, I think politically
- 8:46Speaker 7: drops on Trump's head his dossier of wrongdoings in the
- 8:52Speaker 7: court case. I don't think there's any mistake in that
- 8:55Speaker 7: that was dropped on Tuesday after Senator Vance basically I
- 9:01Speaker 7: think performed magnificently in his debate, So that was good
- 9:05Speaker 7: news for the Trumpet campaign. Jack Smith comes in with
- 9:08Speaker 7: this political I think Department of Justice move so I
- 9:12Speaker 7: think every day is going.
- 9:14Speaker 5: To be different. I think it's gonna be so close.
- 9:15Speaker 7: I don't think anybody's gonna call it until the very end,
- 9:19Speaker 7: even if they do. I mean, you see the averages
- 9:21Speaker 7: move back and forth. West Virginia will go big for
- 9:24Speaker 7: President Trump. We know that, yeah, and I think that
- 9:28Speaker 7: is a tribute to the policies that the president had
- 9:30Speaker 7: when he was in office.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Are you concerned about the outcome of the election. Obviously
- 9:35Speaker 3: you're concerned about it because you know, being a Senate
- 9:37Speaker 3: of representing West Virginia and serving in Washington. But if
- 9:43Speaker 3: the election is as close as many pundits are saying
- 9:46Speaker 3: that it will be possibly the closest election in US history,
- 9:49Speaker 3: how concerned are you that whichever side is the losing
- 9:53Speaker 3: side may not take it so well.
- 9:55Speaker 7: Well, I think that is an area of concern. But
- 9:57Speaker 7: I think, you know, in my view, we've done a
- 10:00Speaker 7: lot to make our elections more secure following twenty twenty.
- 10:03Speaker 7: Twenty twenty wasn't an exceptional year because we were right
- 10:07Speaker 7: in the middle of COVID. There were a lot more
- 10:09Speaker 7: remote there was a lot more on the fly kind
- 10:12Speaker 7: of election provisions in several states, and there were some questions.
- 10:17Speaker 7: But I think I believe that our elections are very secure.
- 10:21Speaker 7: I believe in West Virginia we have excellent election protocols
- 10:25Speaker 7: to secure our elections and our ballots. And I want
- 10:28Speaker 7: people to have faith in the system. And I'm hoping
- 10:31Speaker 7: that the two major candidates will at the end of
- 10:34Speaker 7: the day except the results and let us move on
- 10:38Speaker 7: to governing. We have so many things on our plate
- 10:41Speaker 7: that we really need to have faith in the eventual winner.
- 10:46Speaker 3: But I don't think I wanted to bring up last week.
- 10:48Speaker 3: I think it was last week we reported that you
- 10:51Speaker 3: attended the naturalization ceremonies here in Charleston. I've never seen
- 10:55Speaker 3: one of those in person, but I've seen our coverage
- 10:57Speaker 3: of it in the other TV stations and whatnot. It's
- 10:59Speaker 3: a pretty cool thing to see. It's very cool.
- 11:00Speaker 7: Fifty five people who have been in the country for
- 11:05Speaker 7: some of them long periods of time, pledging allegiance to
- 11:07Speaker 7: the United States, pledging allegiance to serve the United States
- 11:11Speaker 7: if needed, either in military, community service. Bright smiling faces
- 11:16Speaker 7: of families from all over the world. And it really
- 11:20Speaker 7: is if you ever get a chance to go to one,
- 11:22Speaker 7: you ought to do it because it's a very patriotic event.
- 11:25Speaker 5: I want to thank Judge Folk.
- 11:27Speaker 7: He invited me to come down and be the speaker,
- 11:29Speaker 7: and I told them, I said, now that you're an

- 14:50Speaker 3: Good morning, sir, morning Dave.
- 14:52Speaker 13: How are you doing today?
- 14:53Speaker 3: I'm doing fine, Thanks a lot for being here. So
- 14:56Speaker 3: we're getting ready, I guess, for this final county wide
- 14:58Speaker 3: cleanup tomorrow. This is the final one on the schedule.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Cabin Creek behind Go Mars that right now. Tell me
- 15:04Speaker 3: about it.
- 15:05Speaker 13: So, first off, it's been extremely successful this fall with
- 15:09Speaker 13: our county cleanups, and I think a lot of that's
- 15:10Speaker 13: due to the marketing that we've been doing making sure
- 15:13Speaker 13: we get the information out to everyone in Canal County.
- 15:15Speaker 13: So I want to thank you this station and all
- 15:18Speaker 13: the other stations too. It's been covering these and getting
- 15:21Speaker 13: them word out that we're going to have these with
- 15:23Speaker 13: the dates and times. This weekend is going to be
- 15:26Speaker 13: our last one, and so if you've missed the last two,
- 15:29Speaker 13: whether that's because a WU game was on or maybe
- 15:32Speaker 13: just things came up on a Saturday, we get it.
- 15:34Speaker 13: But this is the last one, and usually this is
- 15:36Speaker 13: when we see the most people come out because of
- 15:39Speaker 13: a little bit of that procrastination. But being in Cabin Creek,
- 15:42Speaker 13: I think we see a lot of people come out
- 15:44Speaker 13: as well because they just have a difficult time trying
- 15:46Speaker 13: to get rid of the debris, getting rid of the
- 15:49Speaker 13: tires and the appliances, things like that. It's a little
- 15:52Speaker 13: bit more difficult for those in the unincorporate areas, and
- 15:54Speaker 13: that's why we hold these in those areas. So we're
- 15:56Speaker 13: going to have it this Saturday right behind the Go
- 15:58Speaker 13: Mart there in Cabin Creek. Come early. It's going to
- 16:01Speaker 13: start at eight am. It's going to go all the
- 16:03Speaker 13: way to four pm. If you're in line at three
- 16:05Speaker 13: point fifty, we're not going to turn you away, so
- 16:09Speaker 13: you can get there at three point fifty. We're going
- 16:10Speaker 13: to make sure we take care of everyone. We're going
- 16:13Speaker 13: to accept anything from medals to air conditioner units to boats.
- 16:17Speaker 13: You know, I've said that many times. We actually had
- 16:19Speaker 13: somebody come to one of ours and actually dropped off
- 16:22Speaker 13: a boat. We took care of it.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I remember you told me that last time we were here.
- 16:25Speaker 13: Yeah, and know, And so we're going to do everything
- 16:27Speaker 13: we can. And the reason we do this is because
- 16:29Speaker 13: we want to make sure that this debris doesn't end
- 16:31Speaker 13: up in our culverts, it doesn't end up in our rivers,
- 16:33Speaker 13: doesn't end up in undeveloped lands. This is just to
- 16:37Speaker 13: take care of our environment and also make sure we
- 16:40Speaker 13: take care of our constituents giving them an opportunity to
- 16:42Speaker 13: get rid of this debris.
- 16:44Speaker 3: And even though this one, just like with the other
- 16:46Speaker 3: one's commissioner just you know, this one is being held
- 16:48Speaker 3: in Cabin Creek, but people can come from anywhere in
- 16:50Speaker 3: Kannah County and drop off the stuff. That's just where
- 16:52Speaker 3: you happen to be setting up shop. But people can
- 16:54Speaker 3: come from other areas if they miss the as you said,
- 16:56Speaker 3: if they missed some of the other ones.
- 16:57Speaker 13: Yeah, we try to spread it out as you've seen.
- 17:00Speaker 13: You know, we've been at Elk View, We've been at
- 17:02Speaker 13: South Charleston. This is going to be at Cabin Creek.
- 17:04Speaker 13: We try to spread it out to make it a
- 17:05Speaker 13: little bit more convenient. You know, Kennall County is a
- 17:07Speaker 13: large county, nine hundred and eleven square miles, and so
- 17:10Speaker 13: we try to spread it out. But what we want
- 17:13Speaker 13: to make sure we do is get the word out
- 17:15Speaker 13: that you can come to any of these. This one's
- 17:18Speaker 13: going to be in Cabin Creek. We're going to start
- 17:20Speaker 13: this again in the spring, and so we're going to
- 17:22Speaker 13: continue to do these. We've done this for a long time.
- 17:24Speaker 13: They're very popular. We get a lot of people who
- 17:26Speaker 13: thank us for doing that, and you know, getting a
- 17:28Speaker 13: thank you in government is always a good thing, and
- 17:31Speaker 13: so being able to offer these, it's good again for
- 17:35Speaker 13: the environment, it's good for the people. And I can
- 17:38Speaker 13: say the one thing we always talk about a lot
- 17:39Speaker 13: is tires. Right, it's hard to dispose of a tire. Well,
- 17:43Speaker 13: we're proud that we sponsored with dep here in state
- 17:47Speaker 13: of West Virginia. They come out, they are able to
- 17:49Speaker 13: collect the tires and of the last two that we've
- 17:52Speaker 13: held Dave just as Fall, we've collected over thirty eight
- 17:55Speaker 13: hundred tires.
- 17:57Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 17:57Speaker 13: And those are thirty eight hundred tires. It's not going
- 17:59Speaker 13: to be in our culverts and our rivers. And you know,
- 18:01Speaker 13: you see these messages in Facebook posts all the time,
- 18:04Speaker 13: people saying there's a tire here, or there's trash here.
- 18:07Speaker 13: We want to make sure that we prevent that from
- 18:09Speaker 13: ever happening.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I mean, and there's no reason not to it again.
- 18:12Speaker 3: You take just about anything. As we said, when you've
- 18:14Speaker 3: been on here before, Commissionary, it's easier to tell you
- 18:16Speaker 3: what you don't take. No gas or pro paine tanks,
- 18:20Speaker 3: no hazardous waste, paints, chemicals, motor oil. But other than that,
- 18:24Speaker 3: as you said, somebody gave a boat. Yeah, once before,
- 18:26Speaker 3: somebody brought a boat.
- 18:26Speaker 13: I mean, we've had people and I've mentioned it before.
- 18:28Speaker 13: I think it's important because a lot of times you
- 18:30Speaker 13: think I have an air conditioner unit. It has free
- 18:32Speaker 13: on in it. You know, I can't dispose of that.
- 18:34Speaker 6: We have a.
- 18:35Speaker 13: Company that actually a vendor that comes in and they
- 18:37Speaker 13: will remove the free on from the condensery units so
- 18:40Speaker 13: that way we can properly recycle it. This is how
- 18:43Speaker 13: much this goes into. We've got a vendor who comes
- 18:45Speaker 13: in just for electronics. You've got a TV that's sitting
- 18:49Speaker 13: in the garage, it's got a crack on it, you
- 18:51Speaker 13: just hard to get rid of. You can bring it
- 18:54Speaker 13: in and what we do is we don't just dispose
- 18:56Speaker 13: of it. We properly recycle it and make sure that
- 18:58Speaker 13: it's taken care of and it's not sitting in a landfill.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And compare and contrast these cleanups that you've had with
- 19:05Speaker 3: maybe ones in the past, and these been the biggest
- 19:06Speaker 3: ones you've had so far or well, you know, I
- 19:08Speaker 3: guess once you get through this one ye.
- 19:10Speaker 13: Yeah, of the last two, this is this is a
- 19:12Speaker 13: record breaking turnout. And again I think that's because, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 13: Commissioner Slango, Commissioner Sloting, and myself have villagedly this fall
- 19:19Speaker 13: been making sure we're going out, coming on radio, going
- 19:22Speaker 13: on TV, you know, doing social media, really trying to
- 19:25Speaker 13: spread that message because there's a lot of people. Even
- 19:27Speaker 13: though we've been doing this for a very very long time,
- 19:30Speaker 13: a lot of people still didn't know or they forget,
- 19:33Speaker 13: and so we want to make sure we remind people.
- 19:35Speaker 13: And again, I think this weekend is going to be
- 19:37Speaker 13: the largest that we've probably ever seen for this up
- 19:40Speaker 13: for Cabin Creek. And so we're going to start at
- 19:42Speaker 13: eight am. Usually there's a long line starting at eight am,
- 19:46Speaker 13: but we're going to encourage everyone to get there as
- 19:48Speaker 13: soon as possible so the way we can get everybody
- 19:51Speaker 13: in and out throughout the day.

- 20:20Speaker 3: on and talk about and we'll give the people the
- 20:22Speaker 3: information again as we close. But as I couldn't help
- 20:25Speaker 3: it over here, as Senator Capita was leaving the studio
- 20:27Speaker 3: and you were coming in, you passed in the hall.
- 20:29Speaker 3: The first thing you said to her after your good
- 20:30Speaker 3: morning greetings was we got to get you out on
- 20:32Speaker 3: the hatfil McCoy trail over in Tornado. And I know,
- 20:36Speaker 3: having known Senator Capito for a long time, she's the
- 20:38Speaker 3: type that will take you up on that. So you're
- 20:41Speaker 3: obviously very proud of the work that's gone into the
- 20:43Speaker 3: hatful McCoy Trail.
- 20:44Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:45Speaker 13: Well, I'm very proud of the work that we've done
- 20:47Speaker 13: and I'm very proud to share that with everyone. The
- 20:50Speaker 13: thing about the thing about Senator shellymore Capito is that
- 20:53Speaker 13: she gets it when it comes to tourism. She understands
- 20:56Speaker 13: that we at West Virginia have a gym with our
- 20:59Speaker 13: outdoor recreation. I mean, she's the one that fought to
- 21:02Speaker 13: make sure that we had a national park right here
- 21:05Speaker 13: in West Virginia, and so she understands that she's a
- 21:09Speaker 13: supporter of it. We actually asked assistance from her on
- 21:14Speaker 13: looking at some renovations at Coonskin Park, and she's been
- 21:17Speaker 13: on the phone with us, her and her office, fighting
- 21:20Speaker 13: for Kennall County, fighting for outdoor recreation, fighting for our parks,
- 21:23Speaker 13: and so I want to make sure that that is
- 21:25Speaker 13: known that she is a fighter for us. I'm proud
- 21:28Speaker 13: to stand with her and making sure and being able
- 21:30Speaker 13: to work with her and that we can do that
- 21:31Speaker 13: for tourism. But we've seen even more growth since I
- 21:34Speaker 13: last talked to you about the hat film McCoy trails.
- 21:37Speaker 13: The trails I was told just the week prior on
- 21:40Speaker 13: a Saturday, we had over one hundred riders come out
- 21:44Speaker 13: just for that day. And these are not just people
- 21:46Speaker 13: from Saint Aubans, Nitro Right Charleston, Eastern Kannall County. These
- 21:51Speaker 13: are people from throughout the state and outside the state.
- 21:55Speaker 14: We had a.
- 21:56Speaker 13: Group of people from Kentucky who drove in one day
- 22:00Speaker 13: just to be here. We're getting interest from developers. They're
- 22:03Speaker 13: starting to call a lot of the Charles'snary Alliance, my office,
- 22:07Speaker 13: our CBB, and we're trying to make sure that we
- 22:09Speaker 13: work with them because they're interested. They see the impact
- 22:12Speaker 13: on this and the development that can come from it.
- 22:15Speaker 13: And not only is that hard earned dollars spent right
- 22:17Speaker 13: here on our local businesses, our mom and pop shops,
- 22:20Speaker 13: our restaurants, our hotels, our gas stations, but this is
- 22:25Speaker 13: also jobs that can be created. And so we haven't
- 22:28Speaker 13: really even marketed this yet. We're still working on that
- 22:32Speaker 13: because we're coming outside that season. We're going to get
- 22:34Speaker 13: ready in the spring, but right now we're looking at
- 22:37Speaker 13: a lot of people, excuse me, a lot of people
- 22:40Speaker 13: coming in and developers coming in. So we're going to
- 22:43Speaker 13: see a huge influx of money coming in from this
- 22:46Speaker 13: Hata McCoy. We're going to see it with the Capital
- 22:49Speaker 13: Sports Complex, We're going to see it with Shawnee. The
- 22:51Speaker 13: amount of work that we're putting in there. We are
- 22:53Speaker 13: really working together, and a lot of that is the
- 22:55Speaker 13: work with Commissioner Slango, Commissioner Slotnik and myself really understand
- 23:00Speaker 13: that Conall County can be a county of tourism, something
- 23:02Speaker 13: that was thought of that's not possible where the chemical valley,
- 23:05Speaker 13: where the seat of government. No, we believe that tourism
- 23:09Speaker 13: can be one of those main factors and when it
- 23:11Speaker 13: comes to our economy, and we're starting to.
- 23:13Speaker 3: See that indeed. And I can tell you as you
- 23:16Speaker 3: and I've talked in the past about being from southern
- 23:18Speaker 3: West Virginia, you know, the Hafya McCoy Trail has been
- 23:20Speaker 3: a thing in Logan Mingo Boom, you know, on down
- 23:24Speaker 3: McDowell County for the last twenty well over twenty years.
- 23:28Speaker 3: And one of the biggest problems that they've had down
- 23:30Speaker 3: there with the trail is that there's just not enough
- 23:32Speaker 3: places for people to stay. And matter of fact, Jeff Lusk,
- 23:36Speaker 3: I've talked to Jeff served, the director of the trail,
- 23:38Speaker 3: several times that's probably the biggest issue that they have
- 23:42Speaker 3: is that they just don't have enough places for people
- 23:45Speaker 3: to see to stay and these people that come in
- 23:48Speaker 3: to ride the trails. Now, as you said, this is
- 23:50Speaker 3: a very expensive sport. You know with these guys and
- 23:53Speaker 3: gals do they travel from all over but you know,
- 23:57Speaker 3: generally speaking, they're kicked in mud at the day that
- 24:00Speaker 3: you don't need to give them the greenbrier necessary, although
- 24:02Speaker 3: maybe you could get the green bar, but anyway, it's
- 24:04Speaker 3: another story. So you just need a place for them
- 24:07Speaker 3: to stay, you know, a bed and breakfast, a simple motel.
- 24:09Speaker 3: It doesn't have to be five you know, it doesn't
- 24:11Speaker 3: have to be top of the line stuff here.
- 24:13Speaker 13: Yeah, Hatfilm McCoy told me that they said the one
- 24:15Speaker 13: thing that they do struggle with when they look at
- 24:17Speaker 13: southern West Virginia is the infrastructure that can exist to
- 24:20Speaker 13: have that influx of tourism. Now, look how great that's
- 24:23Speaker 13: been for them, And they're still working on that infrastructure,
- 24:26Speaker 13: getting developers to come in, have those cabins, have those
- 24:28Speaker 13: RV hookups. Look how great that's been for them. We're
- 24:31Speaker 13: now talking about Hafil McCoy being in Kennall County and
- 24:34Speaker 13: the influx it's going to come in from those writers
- 24:37Speaker 13: just to Knall County, and that infrastructure is already there.
- 24:39Speaker 13: We're not talking about bringing new restaurants. We're talking about
- 24:42Speaker 13: supporting existing restaurants that are already able to be self
- 24:45Speaker 13: sustainable on their own from the locals and everything else.
- 24:48Speaker 13: And now we're increasing the numbers that they're going to
- 24:50Speaker 13: be able to see. So we're already ahead of the
- 24:53Speaker 13: game when it comes to Hat film McCoy being in
- 24:56Speaker 13: Keannall County. We have that infrastructure, we have a lot
- 24:58Speaker 13: of interests of people coming in more so I think
- 25:02Speaker 13: that that's going to be the key point. And that's
- 25:04Speaker 13: why I was so excited that I knew if we
- 25:06Speaker 13: could get Hat from McCoy here where we already have
- 25:08Speaker 13: the hotels, we already have the restaurants, we already have
- 25:11Speaker 13: the infrastructure for roads and interstates. This is an easy,
- 25:14Speaker 13: accessible idea that hey, hey, we can market this to
- 25:17Speaker 13: people to say we want you to come to Kanall
- 25:19Speaker 13: County not just for the Hat from McCoy, trails and
- 25:21Speaker 13: dirt bikes, but for everything else we offer, whether it's Regatta,
- 25:25Speaker 13: whether it's Live on the Levee, whether it's going to
- 25:29Speaker 13: a national park. You know, you could make a trip
- 25:31Speaker 13: to Kanall County and make an entire vacation out of
- 25:35Speaker 13: it around the dirt bike trails.
- 25:37Speaker 3: And you know, again those of us that are here,
- 25:39Speaker 3: and I've talked about my experience down south, you know,
- 25:42Speaker 3: we just kind of overlook it. You know, we just think,
- 25:44Speaker 3: I'll look at their mountains. It's a lot bigger deal
- 25:47Speaker 3: in many cases, Commissioner. It's a lot bigger deal to
- 25:49Speaker 3: people away from here than it is. And it's kind
- 25:52Speaker 3: of like when you think about the beach. You know,
- 25:54Speaker 3: if they live, you know, right on the beach or
- 25:55Speaker 3: ten miles from the beach, they may not necessarily think
- 25:58Speaker 3: it's a big deal. But West Virginias think it's huge deal,
- 26:00Speaker 3: and we go there every year. The same with things
- 26:02Speaker 3: like the Hata McCoy trail and these other things we have.
- 26:05Speaker 3: It's it's a major deal and it's an economic driver. Commissioner.
- 26:10Speaker 13: Yeah, we haven't. Again I mentioned we haven't marketed this.
- 26:12Speaker 13: This is all organic. This just from Facebook posts from
- 26:15Speaker 13: Hata McCoy saying we've opened a new trail for dirt
- 26:17Speaker 13: bikes and we're already seeing massive amount of people coming
- 26:20Speaker 13: all across the nation. You know, I've said this before, but
- 26:22Speaker 13: I think this is important so we can see the success.
- 26:25Speaker 13: Right when we opened, we had a RV of a
- 26:28Speaker 13: family of four drive from New York just for this
- 26:30Speaker 13: trail system. We had somebody, we had an influencer from Colorado.
- 26:34Speaker 3: An influencer commissioner.
- 26:36Speaker 13: Yeah, he has an Instagram, so he's an influencer. It's
- 26:39Speaker 13: more than me. He flew in from Colorado just to
- 26:43Speaker 13: ride this trail system. He flew his bike to get
- 26:47Speaker 13: the bike here, flew everything, he had everything delivered here
- 26:49Speaker 13: so he was able to come here.
- 26:51Speaker 8: And that's the interest of this.
- 26:53Speaker 13: Somebody from Colorado who is a influencer and an avid
- 26:56Speaker 13: rider saw this trail system and thought I have to
- 26:59Speaker 13: go ride that as as soon as possible. He came
- 27:01Speaker 13: in on his own his own dime, rode the system.
- 27:04Speaker 13: It's on YouTube. It's great, and so we've had a
- 27:07Speaker 13: lot of those people coming in with their go pros
- 27:09Speaker 13: and showing the trails and the same thing. They say,
- 27:11Speaker 13: it's exciting, and it's sometimes some of those trails can
- 27:15Speaker 13: be difficult. So it's great for all ages. It's great
- 27:18Speaker 13: for all riders. If you are an avid rider and
- 27:20Speaker 13: you like that trail system. You're going up a slope
- 27:23Speaker 13: on a rocky, you know terrain, You're going to love this.
- 27:25Speaker 13: If you like to kind of just coast around a
- 27:27Speaker 13: little bit and just you know, enjoy the scenery, you're
- 27:30Speaker 13: going to love this trail. This is the perfect trail
- 27:33Speaker 13: system in the nation for dirt bikers. And we're proud
- 27:35Speaker 13: to have it here in Kennell County and we're going
- 27:37Speaker 13: to be proud to market it.
- 27:38Speaker 3: What else is on your mind? What else you've been
- 27:40Speaker 3: working on here lately?
- 27:41Speaker 13: Well, we're still working on the opi wood settlement money.
- 27:43Speaker 13: We've been talking about this for a while, you know,
- 27:45Speaker 13: as you all know, we you know, the state, through
- 27:48Speaker 13: Patrick Morris here, Attorney General, was able to obtain a
- 27:50Speaker 13: million dollars in the settlement for the negative impact that
- 27:53Speaker 13: West Virginia had felt from the opioid problem that we've
- 27:57Speaker 13: had for decades. At this time, the Knell County commissi
- 28:00Speaker 13: and has about nine hundred thousand dollars still sitting. We've
- 28:03Speaker 13: been giving it out. Just on Tuesday, we gave two
- 28:06Speaker 13: hundred and fifty thousand dollars to Goodwill to help them
- 28:09Speaker 13: with their to help them with their program where they're
- 28:15Speaker 13: going to be looking at people who are needing job
- 28:18Speaker 13: training coming out of addiction. And so that's the key
- 28:21Speaker 13: part to this. It's not just about treatment, right, This
- 28:23Speaker 13: is about treatment, it's about prevention, and this is about
- 28:26Speaker 13: helping those people who have received that treatment because addiction
- 28:29Speaker 13: doesn't go away. You don't just get rid of addiction.
- 28:32Speaker 13: You're going to be struggling with this for a long time.
- 28:34Speaker 13: You know, we gave two hundred and fifty thousand dollars
- 28:36Speaker 13: to Union Mission and what they told me was they
- 28:39Speaker 13: have a statistic that showed that if you can have
- 28:41Speaker 13: somebody go through treatment and be cleaned for five years,
- 28:44Speaker 13: it seems like a long time, but five years, you
- 28:47Speaker 13: have a ninety percent chance of success rate that that
- 28:49Speaker 13: individual will never fall back on the wagon ever again.
- 28:53Speaker 13: And I think that's important that we have those numbers
- 28:55Speaker 13: because we need to now know it's not just about
- 28:57Speaker 13: getting somebody treatment and getting them help. It's about help
- 29:00Speaker 13: them through that long period for five years and making
- 29:03Speaker 13: sure that we don't have this problem ever rear its
- 29:06Speaker 13: ugly head ever again.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Galla County Commission President Lances Wheeler's always a pleasure to
- 29:10Speaker 3: have you on the show man, Thanks a lot, Hey,
- 29:12Speaker 3: thanks for having me and you were getting a little
- 29:14Speaker 3: choked up there and a text out front and I said,
- 29:17Speaker 3: can can we get you some water? Now? That's like
- 29:19Speaker 3: two bucks a bottle so you can put.
- 29:21Speaker 13: On my tap. I have a three year old and
- 29:23Speaker 13: a five month old at home. I'm not surprised, all right.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Twenty four minutes away from Tim to Dave Allen Show
- 29:28Speaker 3: and five ety Live is brought to you Bright by

- 29:32Speaker 3: large at and inch pepperoni pizza and an eight inch
- 29:34Speaker 3: chocolate chip cookie. Only twenty three ninety nine. We're going
- 29:36Speaker 3: to take a break. A big event going on in
- 29:39Speaker 3: Nitro on Saturday. It's a veterans outreach event. We're going
- 29:43Speaker 3: to talk about that. Plus, we've all seen the devastation
- 29:46Speaker 3: that's happened because of the hurricane last week, particularly in
- 29:49Speaker 3: Western Carolina. With some restaurants here in Charleston want to
- 29:52Speaker 3: do something about that, and they have all several of
- 29:55Speaker 3: them are kind of teamed up for a collaborative effort.
- 29:57Speaker 3: We're going to talk about that coming up a little
- 29:58Speaker 3: bit later on back after This so the Voice of

- 34:04Speaker 3: Saturday in Nitro from ten to one there's going to
- 34:06Speaker 3: be a Veterans outreach program. Now it's set up in
- 34:09Speaker 3: Nitro between twenty first and nineteenth streets. Jim Lewis is
- 34:12Speaker 3: the regional supervisor with the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance,
- 34:15Speaker 3: and he joins us now. Jim, good morning, welcome to
- 34:17Speaker 3: the show.
- 34:18Speaker 17: Good morning, sir, thank you.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. So tell us what's going
- 34:21Speaker 3: on in Nitro Friday Saturday. Tell us about it.
- 34:24Speaker 17: Well, it's just basically an information fair. So far, I
- 34:29Speaker 17: have twenty two vendors that are showing up to shop
- 34:35Speaker 17: their wares for the veteran community. It's free to all veterans.
- 34:39Speaker 17: Like you said, it's from ten o'clock to one o'clock.
- 34:42Speaker 17: It's at Living Memorial Park in Nitro. Come on out,
- 34:47Speaker 17: bring your questions. The VMC will be there. The mobile
- 34:52Speaker 17: clinic will be there from the VMC in Huntington. Our
- 34:56Speaker 17: department will be there. Answer any questions about benefits, monetary
- 34:59Speaker 17: benefits from the regional office. Make us stay late, schedule
- 35:06Speaker 17: ten to one.
- 35:07Speaker 3: You want to say at one thirty or two to
- 35:08Speaker 3: get all the questions answered. When you have the Jim,
- 35:11Speaker 3: when you do these different events in various areas, what
- 35:14Speaker 3: are the typical questions that you get or the typical
- 35:17Speaker 3: person that shows up. I know everybody's got a different story,
- 35:19Speaker 3: but what typically do you see at these things nowadays?
- 35:24Speaker 17: It's basically the Packed Act, the law that President Biden
- 35:29Speaker 17: signed in in August of twenty twenty two. It expanded
- 35:34Speaker 17: exposures toxic exposures for veterans going all the way back
- 35:37Speaker 17: to Vietnam, added a couple of new conditions to that list,
- 35:42Speaker 17: widened out the area for that exposure to herbicides. The
- 35:48Speaker 17: Packed Act mainly went after all the Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Afghanistan, OIF, EIF,
- 35:58Speaker 17: and those veterans. There's a myriad of disabilities that came
- 36:02Speaker 17: from those as well, mostly breathing stuff. This Act was
- 36:06Speaker 17: born from the particulate in burn pits. They just consolidated
- 36:10Speaker 17: it all together. Named after Startin first Class Robinson, who
- 36:15Speaker 17: basically bugged Congress until they passed this law.
- 36:20Speaker 3: And this is open gym to any veteran, right, I mean,
- 36:23Speaker 3: it doesn't necessarily have to be a veteran that served
- 36:25Speaker 3: in combat. As long as you're a veteran, you're welcome
- 36:27Speaker 3: to attendance thing, is that right?
- 36:28Speaker 17: Yes? Or any veteran all?
- 36:30Speaker 18: Right?
- 36:30Speaker 3: Is there a like if people needed more information about
- 36:33Speaker 3: it prior to the event, a website or Facebook or
- 36:35Speaker 3: a number something that people can call if they just
- 36:37Speaker 3: have any questions about your particular event.
- 36:40Speaker 17: We have a website, it's www dot Veterans wv dot gov.
- 36:47Speaker 17: On there, I'll have an office locator that you can
- 36:50Speaker 17: find an office closer to you. My office is out
- 36:53Speaker 17: in South Charleston now on the corridor. We have fifteen
- 36:56Speaker 17: field offices across the state. So I mean, if you're
- 36:59Speaker 17: going away somewhere else, you have a resource to go to.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Okay, in this event, give us the hours again. On Saturday.
- 37:08Speaker 17: It's ten am to one pm Living Moral part Second
- 37:12Speaker 17: Avenue between twenty first and nineteenth Street.
- 37:14Speaker 3: And the weather looks fantastic for Saturday, but things change
- 37:18Speaker 3: as we know. So I understand that you do plan
- 37:20Speaker 3: to if something were to happen, you're still going to
- 37:22Speaker 3: have the event. You'll just move it indoors. But looking
- 37:24Speaker 3: at the weather, I don't think that's going to be
- 37:25Speaker 3: an issue. Jim is the Jim Lewis is the regional
- 37:28Speaker 3: supervisor with the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance. I
- 37:31Speaker 3: appreciate you being here. Good luck with your event on Saturday.
- 37:33Speaker 17: Man.

- 37:58Speaker 3: can find humor in the most to well situations when
- 38:01Speaker 3: I probably shouldn't from time to time. But anything I
- 38:04Speaker 3: can ever do to help veterans, I'm all about it.
- 38:07Speaker 3: I did not serve in the military. My father did.
- 38:09Speaker 3: He passed away mainly because of Agent Orange that he

- 38:16Speaker 3: ever reaches out to me with anything veteran related, I
- 38:19Speaker 3: am one hundred percent all about it. And I know

- 38:23Speaker 3: know a veteran that's got any questions, they got concerns
- 38:26Speaker 3: about everything from their benefits or they just have some questions.
- 38:29Speaker 3: And as Jim said, there's already several people that they
- 38:31Speaker 3: know are coming. This event again is going to be
- 38:34Speaker 3: starting at ten am. They'll go to about one but
- 38:37Speaker 3: as he said, feel free to keep them there late.

- 43:50Speaker 3: I know there's several churches that are doing things, but
- 43:52Speaker 3: the restaurants downtown wanted to get involved in Kevin Madison's here, Kevin,
- 43:55Speaker 3: good morning, Here are you, sir? I'm good, he are you.
- 43:57Speaker 3: I'm doing well and you.
- 43:58Speaker 20: Are with Town Charleston Association. But I'm here to you know,
- 44:03Speaker 20: talk about like you said, we've that's all we're seeing.
- 44:05Speaker 20: You know, we're seeing all the pictures. You know, the
- 44:06Speaker 20: damage is terrible, and you know a lot of us
- 44:09Speaker 20: have personal connections. M You know, our brewer over at
- 44:13Speaker 20: Bad Shepherd with Black Sheep, his brother lives in Ashville.
- 44:16Speaker 20: You know, they're stranded on a hill.
- 44:18Speaker 3: I mean literally stranded on the Asheville is a city
- 44:21Speaker 3: that that I've spent some time in. As always said
- 44:23Speaker 3: about Asheville, I spent a week there one night. Sure, Uh,
- 44:26Speaker 3: but Ashville is a is a is a really really
- 44:28Speaker 3: cool place. And I mean it doesn't matter where it happens,
- 44:31Speaker 3: but I mean to see the devastation. As you said,
- 44:33Speaker 3: literally stranded.
- 44:34Speaker 20: On a hill on a hill, no power, no water,
- 44:37Speaker 20: no internet, electricity, no, no internet, no you got to
- 44:39Speaker 20: you gotta turn your car on to charge your phone,
- 44:42Speaker 20: you know, once a day. It's you know, it's it's crazy.
- 44:45Speaker 20: And Asheville has been known as you know, a big
- 44:47Speaker 20: arts community of several breweries. All of those breweries are
- 44:51Speaker 20: closed indefinitely at this time. So uh, there's a lot
- 44:55Speaker 20: of us that are coming together to you know, try
- 44:58Speaker 20: to raise some funds and supplies and things of that nature.
- 45:02Speaker 20: But I think Kelly has more of a personal connection.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I got Kelly cart here with how are you Kelly?
- 45:07Speaker 13: Great?
- 45:07Speaker 21: Thanks thanks for having us.
- 45:08Speaker 3: I was joking with you earlier during the break, I said,
- 45:10Speaker 3: now have you been behind a microphone before? Because people
- 45:12Speaker 3: will not in a while, but people people do remember
- 45:15Speaker 3: you from your television stamp.
- 45:17Speaker 21: You're about three years but yeah, I think a little
- 45:19Speaker 21: probably maybe A not so well known fact is that
- 45:22Speaker 21: my husband and I own and operate several restaurants along
- 45:25Speaker 21: with his business partner Dave Andrews, three of them being downtown.
- 45:30Speaker 21: So yeah, we have bar one on One, Itchy Bond
- 45:34Speaker 21: and DT Prime, And like Kevin was saying, we all
- 45:37Speaker 21: seem to have you know, we can all relate to
- 45:39Speaker 21: these images that we're seeing in the heartbreak, and a
- 45:42Speaker 21: lot of us have personal connections. My husband and I
- 45:45Speaker 21: actually got married in Burnsville, which is one of the
- 45:47Speaker 21: little tiny towns in western North Carolina that was just decimated.
- 45:51Speaker 21: And the images are very difficult to see. But we
- 45:56Speaker 21: are anniversary a or wed any anniversaries actually this weekend,
- 45:59Speaker 21: oh really so, I mean it just the time the
- 46:00Speaker 21: timing works out. But his parents have a place there.
- 46:04Speaker 21: We go down probably four times a year or maybe
- 46:06Speaker 21: five times as often as we can get down because
- 46:08Speaker 21: we just love it down there, So it will it
- 46:10Speaker 21: will never be the same. But we were so saddened
- 46:14Speaker 21: by it, but we were also like so many people,
- 46:16Speaker 21: wanting to know what we can do to help?
- 46:18Speaker 3: So what exactly are we doing? I know that you
- 46:19Speaker 3: said the restaurants are wanted to get involved. Give us
- 46:22Speaker 3: the give us the details, man, all right, what's going on?
- 46:25Speaker 20: Yes So yesterday, you know, we've got some amazing brewery
- 46:28Speaker 20: partners here in Charleston, five Street Brewing. You know, they
- 46:31Speaker 20: posted they're going to be donating fifteen percent of their
- 46:34Speaker 20: proceeds on Saturday. And I reached out to John Q
- 46:37Speaker 20: as we know him here and downtown Charleston. I said, hey,
- 46:40Speaker 20: you know, can we can we get involved in this?
- 46:42Speaker 20: And he's like yeah. I said, you know, you don't care.
- 46:44Speaker 20: I don't want to take I don't want to take
- 46:45Speaker 20: your event. And he's like, no, man, we need to
- 46:47Speaker 20: get these people some money. So now the list has
- 46:50Speaker 20: grown Five Street, Black Sheet, Root and Bruce Ichi, von DT, Prime,
- 46:54Speaker 20: Adelphia Sports Bar, Hail House, all of these businesses, and
- 46:59Speaker 20: this list is going to grow.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Okay, well this literally just came together like like ten
- 47:04Speaker 3: minutes ago yesterday.
- 47:06Speaker 20: But you know, I've lived in West Virginia for thirteen years,
- 47:09Speaker 20: and when people need help, we help. We help our neighbors.
- 47:13Speaker 20: Just you know, when we had those devastating floods, you know,
- 47:15Speaker 20: several years ago people were here to help us, so
- 47:19Speaker 20: you know, it's our time now. But all of like
- 47:21Speaker 20: I said, all of those locations, you know, they're going
- 47:23Speaker 20: to donate fifteen percent of their sales on Saturday on Saturday,
- 47:27Speaker 20: all day Saturday at all these restaurants for bars to
- 47:31Speaker 20: go to. Two organizations in that area, one being Mercy Chefs.
- 47:37Speaker 20: And Mercy Chefs is a nonprofit base out of Portsmouth, Virginia,
- 47:43Speaker 20: and they go and set up these mobile kitchens and
- 47:46Speaker 20: provide restaurant quality meals for up to twenty thousand people
- 47:51Speaker 20: a day. And that's the victims, your first responders, your volunteers,
- 47:55Speaker 20: those people out there on the ground, and of course
- 47:58Speaker 20: you know again the ones that you know have been
- 48:00Speaker 20: displaced in shelters. But they're gonna feed up to twenty
- 48:02Speaker 20: thousand people every day and they're there long term, so
- 48:07Speaker 20: the money is going to go to them. You can
- 48:09Speaker 20: go to Mercychefs dot com. There's a donation link if
- 48:12Speaker 20: you if you can't go dine out in downtown Charleston
- 48:15Speaker 20: on Saturday, it doesn't take but two seconds to log
- 48:18Speaker 20: on and check out what they do on a daily
- 48:21Speaker 20: basis and donate to them. Another important organization. It's a
- 48:28Speaker 20: Brother Wolf Animal Rescue that is an animal shelter in Ashville.
- 48:34Speaker 20: They lost one hundred percent of their physical assets one
- 48:38Speaker 20: hundred percent. They have nothing. The buildings are destroyed. Fortunately,
- 48:44Speaker 20: I am happy to report all of the animals were
- 48:47Speaker 20: evacuated prior to the storm, so no animals were lost.
- 48:50Speaker 3: But that was gonna be because people that know me. No,
- 48:52Speaker 3: I really, I don't really don't like people that much,
- 48:54Speaker 3: but but I love animals. And I was about to
- 48:57Speaker 3: say if you say that these animals, I mean, it's
- 49:00Speaker 3: enough anyway, But with the animals were saved and.
- 49:02Speaker 20: All the animals were saved. With that, and you can
- 49:04Speaker 20: go to bwa R dot com that stands for Brotherwolf
- 49:08Speaker 20: Animal Rescue. There is a donation link there. They're trying
- 49:12Speaker 20: to do random updates as they can, but again there's limited,
- 49:17Speaker 20: limited internet and Wi Fi. I mean, you see the
- 49:21Speaker 20: pictures people people had to leave some other animals behind,
- 49:24Speaker 20: and you knew the flood waters were up to the
- 49:26Speaker 20: middle of their bodies, and it's just it's heartbreaking. And
- 49:29Speaker 20: like you said, you don't like people, No, I mean,
- 49:34Speaker 20: I'm gonna We're an abbot and I'm an Abbot animal lover,
- 49:36Speaker 20: so a.
- 49:37Speaker 3: Strategic for the for people that lost I mean obviously
- 49:40Speaker 3: lost lives, but also that lost everything. But they've worked
- 49:42Speaker 3: and it's something that we may not know about hurricanes
- 49:45Speaker 3: here in West Virginia, but we do know about flooding.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Every couple of years, it seems like we get something
- 49:51Speaker 3: in some part of the state.
- 49:52Speaker 5: If you think about it.
- 49:52Speaker 21: You know, our big flood happening happened in twenty sixteen.
- 49:55Speaker 5: We're still recovering.
- 49:56Speaker 21: I just went to the grand opening of Clinden And
- 49:59Speaker 21: Elementary School before the school year started, so.
- 50:01Speaker 8: Eight years later.
- 50:02Speaker 5: So we know that this is going to be a
- 50:03Speaker 5: long process.
- 50:04Speaker 21: But to get people, you know, off the ground and
- 50:07Speaker 21: to get started there's it's such a daunting task and
- 50:10Speaker 21: I think you look at it and you feel a
- 50:11Speaker 21: little bit hopeless. But I think everyone just wants to
- 50:14Speaker 21: help in some way.
- 50:16Speaker 3: And I think by doing this interview, I think that's
- 50:18Speaker 3: because most of the businesses downtown are listening, so that
- 50:20Speaker 3: means that others are going to want to get involved,
- 50:22Speaker 3: maybe even some that aren't necessarily restaurants. I mean, everybody
- 50:25Speaker 3: could get.
- 50:25Speaker 20: Involved on one come on, like you sure, absolutely really quickly. Yeah,
- 50:30Speaker 20: so through Josh McGrath and Better Homes and Gardens real
- 50:34Speaker 20: Estate Central, we've had a semi truck to fill. So
- 50:38Speaker 20: all of their Better Home, Better Home and Garden real
- 50:41Speaker 20: Estate Central locations.
- 50:42Speaker 3: That's hard to say, that's hard to say say all
- 50:44Speaker 3: Josh's places.
- 50:45Speaker 20: All Josh's places are going to be donated or they're
- 50:48Speaker 20: accepting cash donations. They're also accepting you know, bottled water,
- 50:52Speaker 20: nonperishable items, you know, cleaning supplies, things of that nature
- 50:57Speaker 20: to fill that semi well. We've all so I said,
- 51:00Speaker 20: Black Sheep has space. We'll be collecting supplies. If you
- 51:05Speaker 20: would like to donate cash, you're more than a welcome
- 51:08Speaker 20: to you. I would rather have the supplies there to
- 51:10Speaker 20: fill that in my truck, or like I said, just
- 51:13Speaker 20: make a donation to one of those two organizations.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Let's talk about the restaurants again that are involved, the
- 51:18Speaker 3: ones as of now, as of nine to fifty eight
- 51:20Speaker 3: this morning, that are involved.
- 51:21Speaker 20: As a nine to fifty eight this morning, again, we've
- 51:23Speaker 20: got five Street brewing, Black Sheep brew doing Bruce, We've
- 51:26Speaker 20: got Issuvon, we have DT Prime of Delphia Sports Bar
- 51:30Speaker 20: and Grill Haill House and like the list is going
- 51:34Speaker 20: to grow.
- 51:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to grow. And again if you dine
- 51:36Speaker 3: in those places anytime on Saturday, and I will say this,
- 51:40Speaker 3: I know there's a lot of events going on in
- 51:42Speaker 3: the area this weekend. I'm going to be Saturday afternoon
- 51:44Speaker 3: at the fall Y'all Chili contest in saying all the
- 51:47Speaker 3: rough gig, I have to go judge Chili. Thank you
- 51:50Speaker 3: Steve Animal for that. But afterwards, if you're going out
- 51:54Speaker 3: to any of these events are going on the area
- 51:55Speaker 3: and there are a ton make your way downtown at
- 51:57Speaker 3: some point because this is going to be going on
- 51:59Speaker 3: all day. The weather is going to be fantastic, they
- 52:01Speaker 3: tell us on Saturday. Not too hot, not no rain
- 52:04Speaker 3: or anything like that. So get downtown and patronize these businesses.
- 52:08Speaker 3: As you mentioned all those guys, I appreciate you being here.
- 52:11Speaker 3: Give us the two organizations again and the websites as
- 52:14Speaker 3: we close.
- 52:14Speaker 20: Kevin Mercy Chefs that's Mercy Mercychefs dot com. And then
- 52:19Speaker 20: we've got Brother Wolf Animal Rescue which is bwa R
- 52:23Speaker 20: dot com. If you are a local restaurant or business
- 52:26Speaker 20: that you want to be added to this list, please
- 52:28Speaker 20: email me at k dot Madison at Downtown CWV dot Com.
- 52:33Speaker 3: All right, Kelly and Kevin the KK Show. I appreciate
- 52:36Speaker 3: you being here, guys, thanks a lot. It's kind a
