- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel Show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app. It is an October
- 0:08Speaker 1: 26th morning and a whole lot's going on. Oh, yes,
- 0:11Speaker 1: it is. The Israeli election tomorrow, we're going to talk
- 0:14Speaker 1: about that. That's hugely important to us. Of course, midterms
- 0:17Speaker 1: coming up on next Tuesday. Every day at 7.30, I'm
- 0:21Speaker 1: doing a voter guide, my vote, why, and you should
- 0:24Speaker 1: not follow my advice. And at the same time, what
- 0:28Speaker 1: else is going on? Oh, calendar, November 14th, and we're
- 0:34Speaker 1: going to be broadcasting. I'm joining Neil on his broadcast tomorrow. uh,
- 0:38Speaker 1: for thanks grilling at the wild fork in Laguna Niguel.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And that's two to five o'clock. So a lot's going on.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So now I want to do, I want to give
- 0:47Speaker 1: you a quote at the department of war. We do training,
- 0:51Speaker 1: not trannies. That was an, uh, at the Iowa state
- 0:55Speaker 1: fair in August of, uh, this year. Okay. No more diversity,
- 1:01Speaker 1: no more equity and no more inclusion initiatives. Uh, All right.
- 1:07Speaker 1: September of 2026, the following month, there was a state
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the force addressed to junior officers and enlisted troops
- 1:15Speaker 1: in Virginia. No fatties, no trannies, no beardos, no weirdos,
- 1:19Speaker 1: no wimps, no radicals. Trans is out at the DOD
- 1:26Speaker 1: posted on X in July. And what is going on? Well, clearly,
- 1:32Speaker 1: Pete Hegseth, our secretary of defense of war, who is
- 1:36Speaker 1: completely unqualified to be the secretary of defense, other than
- 1:42Speaker 1: he is an acolyte of the president. Anybody who loves
- 1:46Speaker 1: the president, the more you love, the higher position you get.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And what he has done is that and this was
- 1:54Speaker 1: in front of a Marines ridding the military of all
- 1:57Speaker 1: transgender troops. So what the Pentagon did was set up
- 2:00Speaker 1: these review boards at bases around the globe, manned by, well,
- 2:04Speaker 1: uniformed service members, regular people, and officers and enlisted guys,
- 2:10Speaker 1: with orders that basically ensured that trans troops that appear
- 2:16Speaker 1: before them would be voted out of the military. Okay,
- 2:20Speaker 1: Marine Corps Base Quantico. These boards assigned to carry out
- 2:25Speaker 1: those orders. You must... throw out these soldiers who are trans.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And instead of firing them, the boards are voting to
- 2:34Speaker 1: keep them in direct violation of policy set by Hegseth,
- 2:40Speaker 1: who has ordered those boards to throw out trannies. Trans. Trannies,
- 2:46Speaker 1: as he said. And this was happening in the Navy.
- 2:50Speaker 1: The boards were given strict rules instructing them to force
- 2:53Speaker 1: out these sailors. And the boards are rebelling. And this
- 2:59Speaker 1: is nine out of 12 cases Navy and Marine boards
- 3:04Speaker 1: voted to retain the trans members. Now, the Pentagon keeps
- 3:09Speaker 1: these proceedings absolutely secret. Outsiders, even spouses, are not allowed
- 3:14Speaker 1: in there to attend the hearings. Officials don't release numbers.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Leaders won't discuss the outcome. This information was compiled by
- 3:26Speaker 1: the New York Times through interviews with service members and
- 3:29Speaker 1: lawyers involved in the hearings. Now, the number of Navy
- 3:33Speaker 1: and Marine cases is very small and could easily change
- 3:38Speaker 1: as more hearings are conducted. So far in the Army
- 3:41Speaker 1: or Air Force, people are being thrown out, not in
- 3:46Speaker 1: the Marines and not in the Navy. And when you
- 3:50Speaker 1: look at this, what a stunning rebuke from the armed forces.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Following orders is bedrock. And these boards are going the
- 3:59Speaker 1: other way.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Why?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Because there are trans troops that are highly trained, have
- 4:07Speaker 1: been in combat, have exemplary records, have shown valor in
- 4:13Speaker 1: some cases, and otherwise are just the kind of troops
- 4:18Speaker 1: that this nation wants to keep. and retain the military
- 4:22Speaker 1: and don't want them because they're trannies and beardos and weirdos.
- 4:27Speaker 1: That's the other side. Now, the numbers are really small.
- 4:31Speaker 1: 4,250 people, about a tenth of a percent of the
- 4:36Speaker 1: military are, in fact, trans. And President Trump signed an
- 4:41Speaker 1: order barring trans troops from his first week in office,
- 4:46Speaker 1: saying the action was needed to weed out dishonorable radicals
- 4:50Speaker 1: who poison morale and waste resources, because that's a given.
- 4:54Speaker 1: If you're trans, you are immoral and you are a
- 4:58Speaker 1: threat and you can't do a good job. And how
- 5:02Speaker 1: do they know you're trans? What if you don't say
- 5:05Speaker 1: you're trans? Well, any indication that you're trans, if you
- 5:10Speaker 1: sort of look like you're trans. Now, if I'm in
- 5:14Speaker 1: the military, I wouldn't last two minutes to Not because
- 5:20Speaker 1: I'm who I am, but I've got a dirty little secret.
- 5:25Speaker 1: At night, when it is dark and I have to pee,
- 5:32Speaker 1: what I do is I go into the bathroom and
- 5:36Speaker 1: I don't stand up because I'm going to miss. Okay,
- 5:41Speaker 1: here's my secret. I sit down to pee in the
- 5:44Speaker 1: middle of the night. That surprises no one. Yeah. you're out.
- 5:49Speaker 1: You are out of the military. You pervert, you trans,
- 5:52Speaker 1: you sit down to pee. How dare you do that?
- 5:56Speaker 2: Gone.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Pete has says, says get handle out because he does that. Uh, it's, uh,
- 6:03Speaker 1: it's crazy. It really is. And it's unfortunate and it
- 6:05Speaker 1: is a shame and it makes no sense. And frankly, it's, uh,
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's not even humane. I mean, give me a break, huh?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Can people be in a different light, a different sex?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Can they be gay and still be valuable members?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Nope.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Nope. Not in this administration. Okay.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Let me tell you what's going on in Israel before
- 6:31Speaker 1: the vote tomorrow. No, no, no. Let's do this instead.
- 6:36Speaker 1: The cat and mouse game between premium credit card firms
- 6:40Speaker 1: and points junkies and the scam that's going on, but
- 6:44Speaker 1: not by the companies towards consumers. It's the other way.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And I'll explain that. And I'm going to go and
- 6:53Speaker 1: pee during the break. And since it's light, I'm going
- 6:57Speaker 1: to stand up to do that. Just want to point
- 6:59Speaker 1: that out.
- 7:00Speaker 2: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And it is, well, this week is going to be
- 7:08Speaker 1: so busy. First of all, U.S. forces in the Middle
- 7:12Speaker 1: East preparing to launch some potentially major military options against
- 7:18Speaker 1: Iran or operations against Iran. Well, that's not going to
- 7:22Speaker 1: happen until after the election, clearly, where the president said,
- 7:24Speaker 1: after the election, I'm going to end the war. And
- 7:28Speaker 1: I guess the inference is make sure you vote Republicans
- 7:31Speaker 1: and then the war will end. Make sure you vote
- 7:34Speaker 1: Republicans in. And then tomorrow, the Israeli elections. We'll talk
- 7:37Speaker 1: about that because that is important stuff for us. And
- 7:40Speaker 1: of course, the midterms coming up and every day at 730,
- 7:43Speaker 1: my voter guide. I'm going through the propositions for the
- 7:46Speaker 1: most part because that affects everybody in the state. Now,
- 7:49Speaker 1: let me tell you what's going on in the world
- 7:51Speaker 1: of credit cards. There is a cat and mouse game
- 7:55Speaker 1: between premium credit card firms and points junkies. And I
- 8:00Speaker 1: am a point junkie. Banks are cracking down on these
- 8:04Speaker 1: credit card points on the junkies who say they use
- 8:08Speaker 1: tactics that cross the line and violate the rules. I
- 8:11Speaker 1: don't do that. I don't know how to do that.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Although I can now go on the internet. YouTube has
- 8:16Speaker 1: all kinds of fun ways of screwing the credit card companies.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Citi and Chase have changed their policy that limits sign-up
- 8:24Speaker 1: bonuses to target cardholders who apply for the same card
- 8:29Speaker 1: multiple times to get the points. And there was no
- 8:32Speaker 1: way of checking. Now they check. They didn't used to
- 8:37Speaker 1: because that was a neat way of getting these ridiculous
- 8:39Speaker 1: amount of points or a lot of points. American Express
- 8:44Speaker 1: has a team to detect abuse and they claw back
- 8:47Speaker 1: rewards and just close accounts. So there's a website offering
- 8:51Speaker 1: Chase Sapphire cardholders, which I have, early access to World
- 8:56Speaker 1: Cup tickets. And that crashed for certain users. The bank
- 9:00Speaker 1: was offering to compensate those users because it crashed with
- 9:05Speaker 1: 5,000 courtesy points. Well, there's a video out there that
- 9:10Speaker 1: flagged a detail. Chase was not checking whether those cardholders
- 9:14Speaker 1: actually tried to buy tickets. They just said they tried.
- 9:19Speaker 1: and got the 5,000 points. So the dance keeps on growing.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It's a universe of points junkies constantly hunting for ways
- 9:29Speaker 1: to milk reward programs and the banks that are trying
- 9:33Speaker 1: to stop it. And the banks pay money for this.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It costs them money, these rewards programs, because that's the
- 9:42Speaker 1: way to hold on to customers. When I signed up
- 9:44Speaker 1: with Chase, boy, they offered me a whole lot of points.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And of course I took it. Well, Citi this year
- 9:50Speaker 1: implemented a policy limiting cardholders to one sign-up bonus a
- 9:55Speaker 1: lifetime for its cards. And now, of course, they can
- 9:58Speaker 1: figure out who it is because of technology. Chase implemented
- 10:02Speaker 1: a similar policy last year for Sapphire holders. And on Friday,
- 10:09Speaker 1: American Express, they were addressing more legitimate forms of gaming
- 10:15Speaker 1: during an earnings call. And the chief executive, Steven Squarey, said,
- 10:20Speaker 1: while AI may allow people to game a little bit more,
- 10:23Speaker 1: the technology we have will allow us to make it
- 10:26Speaker 1: easier to respond and the company can more easily adjust
- 10:30Speaker 1: its rules. And for example, Amex Platinum card holders now
- 10:36Speaker 1: need to spend $ 75, 000 a year to bring guests into
- 10:40Speaker 1: certain lounges around the country and around the world. And Amex,
- 10:45Speaker 1: for years, has had teams to stop that. It's a game.
- 10:50Speaker 1: It really is. And this community of gamers, it's a
- 10:53Speaker 1: small world that's getting bigger. They live on tips they
- 10:58Speaker 1: find in online groups from influencers. And the richer the program,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and they're all getting richer and richer, then these gamers
- 11:09Speaker 1: are getting more and more perks. And here's a fight
- 11:12Speaker 1: with technology. Technology starts negatively and then, in many cases,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and then the patches come in. The patches always come
- 11:24Speaker 1: in after someone has hacked, after a vulnerability has been found.
- 11:30Speaker 1: So cardholders, agreements, if you read the agreements... generally allow
- 11:35Speaker 1: the banks to close an account for any reason. I
- 11:37Speaker 1: get that all the time on Handle on the Law. Bill,
- 11:40Speaker 1: they closed my account. Do I have any recourse? Yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 1: get another card. Of course they can close the account.
- 11:49Speaker 1: But there was no reason for them to close the account.
- 11:51Speaker 1: They don't need a reason. Maybe they just don't like you. Okay. Okay.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Maybe one of those cards, you know, like a Costco card,
- 12:02Speaker 1: which I have, the Citi Costco card. Of course I do.
- 12:05Speaker 1: And my picture is on there. And someone says, you know,
- 12:08Speaker 1: I don't like the way he looks. You know, I
- 12:12Speaker 1: just don't like it. Too many zits. He looks like
- 12:13Speaker 1: a pepperoni pizza on his face. I'm just not interested
- 12:16Speaker 1: in that. And so we're canceling the card. Okay. Now what?
- 12:22Speaker 1: There's nothing now what? That's it. So these cardholder agreements
- 12:28Speaker 1: allow banks to close an account for any reason. And
- 12:31Speaker 1: they don't do that for that, but often with stipulations
- 12:35Speaker 1: that let them seize points. They figured out that the
- 12:38Speaker 1: points you have are not legitimate. That's another question that
- 12:42Speaker 1: comes up. They're saying my points aren't legitimate. They took
- 12:46Speaker 1: them away. Okay. Now, can you sue? Well, of course
- 12:49Speaker 1: you can. But are you going to win? Of course not.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And the banks have been tightening up rules for to
- 12:56Speaker 1: stop these, I guess, scammers as far as the banks
- 13:00Speaker 1: are concerned. And the perks are pretty good. My businesses,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I run through credit cards, all of them. Everything I have,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I run through credit cards, which means when I fly,
- 13:13Speaker 1: you notice I fly business class, and you want to
- 13:17Speaker 1: know why? Points. Points, baby, points. Love them points. Okay,
- 13:28Speaker 1: coming up, L.A., and this is a Los Angeles story,
- 13:33Speaker 1: also Orange County, but it's two different groups that are
- 13:36Speaker 1: measured here. A large gap between city and suburban home
- 13:41Speaker 1: prices and why L.A., it's the number one in the
- 13:45Speaker 1: difference in price between city and suburban prices, which is
- 13:49Speaker 1: really unusual. I'll explain. There's a reason for that. And
- 13:53Speaker 1: then I'm going to do just one segment on what's
- 13:56Speaker 1: happening in Israel, and we'll talk more about that vote
- 14:00Speaker 1: tomorrow when it comes down.
- 14:03Speaker 2: You're listening to Bill Handel On Demand from KFI AM640.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I was just told by Ann that the Christmas trees
- 14:11Speaker 1: are now coming in all over the place. And I
- 14:14Speaker 1: think this year, as the past several years, the folks
- 14:21Speaker 1: from Aldic are going to be providing Christmas tree, which
- 14:25Speaker 1: they give away here on KFI. Aldic is an interesting store.
- 14:30Speaker 1: It's probably illegal, but they only have male salespeople. You
- 14:33Speaker 1: know that, don't you? What does that even mean? Pardon me?
- 14:37Speaker 2: What does that even mean?
- 14:38Speaker 1: Okay. Right.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Right over your head on that one. I guess so.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah. I am looking at the Americana on brand getting
- 14:48Speaker 2: their Christmas tree right now.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. It's all male with all dick. Okay. Nevermind. Oh,
- 14:55Speaker 1: you just got it.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Okay. Thank you.
- 14:57Speaker 1: No, no. Thank you. That's the name of it. That's
- 15:00Speaker 1: the name of the organization. Moving on.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Moving on. That is the name of the store. That's
- 15:06Speaker 1: my fault.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It is.
- 15:08Speaker 1: That's my fault. Okay. I'm saying, you know, it's the
- 15:10Speaker 1: name of the store.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Leave me alone.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Keep it moving.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Moving on. Okay. Moving on. All right. L.A. County, if
- 15:20Speaker 1: you hear from the skeptics, will tell you that it's
- 15:25Speaker 1: far from prime real estate these days. surveys show deep
- 15:31Speaker 1: dissatisfaction about the quality of life. Data shows L.A. County's
- 15:35Speaker 1: population dropping even as other places rebound. However, when it
- 15:40Speaker 1: comes to real estate values, the center core of L.A.
- 15:44Speaker 1: County still holds a major advantage over the suburbs. And
- 15:50Speaker 1: the gap between L.A. center and And the suburbs out
- 15:54Speaker 1: there is actually greater than in other major cities. I mean,
- 15:57Speaker 1: greater than any city, which is, let me give you
- 16:00Speaker 1: some stats about home. This is not just the affordability.
- 16:03Speaker 1: This is affordability. Homes in L.A. County sold for 66%
- 16:07Speaker 1: higher than the surrounding suburbs. That was June. The suburbs
- 16:12Speaker 1: we're talking about, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura counties, Orange County,
- 16:18Speaker 1: where average home prices are even higher than L.A., That
- 16:21Speaker 1: was its own urban area in terms of being counted.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So I'm going to talk about L.A. So you have
- 16:28Speaker 1: the nation's 26 biggest metropolitan area. L.A. was first in
- 16:33Speaker 1: this premium price difference compared with the suburbs. And if
- 16:38Speaker 1: you look at it per square foot price, the difference
- 16:41Speaker 1: is even greater. It is, well, homebuyers in L.A. proper, right,
- 16:48Speaker 1: the core, We're talking about Hollywood. We're talking about L.A.
- 16:52Speaker 1: We're talking about the basic core of L.A. County. The
- 16:57Speaker 1: homebuyers are paying 84 percent premium over the surrounding areas.
- 17:02Speaker 1: We pay so much more for the core of L.A.,
- 17:06Speaker 1: more than any other city. 84%. Phoenix is 27% more.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Dallas-Fort Worth, it's only 11% more. Denver, San Antonio, Detroit,
- 17:16Speaker 1: suburban homes were actually more valuable than the homes in
- 17:19Speaker 1: the city. Now, why? Well, there's a bunch of reasons.
- 17:26Speaker 1: First of all, demand is being driven by young adults
- 17:29Speaker 1: starting their own family. Where do they go? They can't
- 17:32Speaker 1: be in the city core. Now, housing demand is half
- 17:39Speaker 1: of the pricing picture. Then there's a supply factor. Are
- 17:44Speaker 1: suburban homes coming on the market because boomers are passing
- 17:47Speaker 1: on or moving elsewhere? Well, here's the problem with suburbs.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Suburbs have always offered a lower cost alternative to people
- 17:57Speaker 1: wanting a bigger house or a less urban feel. And
- 17:59Speaker 1: the farther out you go, the cheaper it is, the
- 18:02Speaker 1: bigger the home. I mean, there's no question. Your million-dollar
- 18:06Speaker 1: home here in Burbank, which is right across the street,
- 18:10Speaker 1: we look at that through the window, and these are
- 18:12Speaker 1: homes at 1,100 square feet, one bathroom, two bedrooms or
- 18:16Speaker 1: three bedrooms, one bath, a million dollars. Now, go out
- 18:21Speaker 1: to San Bernardino. Go to the Inland Empire. Go out
- 18:24Speaker 1: to Ventura County out there. What do you think a
- 18:26Speaker 1: million-dollar buys you? Four-bedroom, three or four-baths? maybe 3,000 square feet,
- 18:36Speaker 1: big yard, try to do that in Burbank, or try
- 18:40Speaker 1: to do that anywhere in the Valley, or try to
- 18:42Speaker 1: do that in West Hollywood, or you're not going to
- 18:44Speaker 1: get a yard no matter what in West Hollywood. Strangely enough,
- 18:48Speaker 1: Inland Empire, the prices have risen faster in recent years
- 18:51Speaker 1: than L.A., but the disparity is so great because L.A.
- 18:55Speaker 1: County still has the key advantages, more so than any
- 18:58Speaker 1: other cities. First of all, the job centers are... basically
- 19:03Speaker 1: inaccessible from neighboring counties. The drive is way too long.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Remember Kono, who is no longer with us, drove an
- 19:09Speaker 1: hour in every day. Uh, he's not dead. He's just
- 19:13Speaker 1: working somewhere else. Oh no, he's dead. Uh, he's dead.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He's dead to us.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Uh, And Tony, how far do you drive in? Tony,
- 19:22Speaker 1: who is doing our board Mondays for a while. 40 miles.
- 19:26Speaker 1: 40 miles. How long does that take you? No traffic,
- 19:30Speaker 1: 45 minutes, normally hour and a half to two hours. Yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I know. Look at, you know, with, and the rest
- 19:38Speaker 1: of us, well, Will, how long does it take you
- 19:40Speaker 1: to come in? About 15 minutes. Oh, that's not bad. Yeah.
- 19:44Speaker 1: That's not bad. Neil, you're about 15 minutes, right? Yes. Okay.
- 19:49Speaker 1: And Amy? Even less. Oh, good for you. Like 12 minutes.
- 19:55Speaker 1: 12 minutes, which is great. And that's not a commute.
- 19:57Speaker 1: That's just you jump in the car and drive down
- 19:59Speaker 1: to the 7-Eleven. Well, that's driving in the middle of
- 20:01Speaker 1: the night, though, too. That's true. That's true. So why also?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Because the great job centers are here, too. And L.A.
- 20:10Speaker 1: simply has just those advantages. But the problem is the
- 20:14Speaker 1: prices are so insanely high. And it used to be
- 20:18Speaker 1: where the city center was so it became so cheap
- 20:23Speaker 1: because it was well, you know, it was falling apart.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And in the suburbs, especially the suburbs close in, were
- 20:31Speaker 1: becoming truly expensive. Even the point where you go out
- 20:35Speaker 1: to Encino, go out to Sherman Oaks today, which is
- 20:38Speaker 1: not part of the core. Uh, it's, it's the suburb.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I mean, the prices are, I mean, crazy. Uh, it's, it's,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know, I feel very bad. My daughter, Pamela, uh, said, dad,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I'm never going to afford a house. Am I go?
- 20:52Speaker 1: Absolutely not. But you promised me you'd help me with
- 20:54Speaker 1: a down payment. Absolutely. The promise is still there. And
- 20:58Speaker 1: this is an easy one. You make the promise. You
- 20:59Speaker 1: never have to come through, go through with it. Uh,
- 21:02Speaker 1: because even if I do help her or even pay
- 21:04Speaker 1: for the down payment, guess what? She'll never afford a mortgage.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Aren't I a good guy? You're damn right I am. Okay,
- 21:15Speaker 1: the push to oust Bibi or Benjamin Netanyahu is actually
- 21:21Speaker 1: drawing thousands of Israelis to fly home to vote, most
- 21:27Speaker 1: of them from the U.S. Why? Well, there's one good
- 21:32Speaker 1: reason for it. Actually, there's two good reasons for it.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I'll share that with you, and we'll end the show
- 21:35Speaker 1: with that.
- 21:36Speaker 2: You're listening to Bill Handel On Demand from KFI AM640.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And coming up next Tuesday, of course, the midterms and
- 21:45Speaker 1: go out and vote, vote, vote. I think I'm sending
- 21:47Speaker 1: in my mail-in ballot today. I just have to sign it. And, well,
- 21:53Speaker 1: it's important that you vote. I don't care who you
- 21:54Speaker 1: vote for. I don't care what you vote for. Please, please.
- 21:57Speaker 1: You know, a lot of people died so you could
- 22:02Speaker 1: vote in a democratic society. Okay. So with that, tomorrow
- 22:07Speaker 1: is a vote in Israel. And it's an important vote.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And it is a parliamentary system in which if a
- 22:16Speaker 1: party doesn't get the majority vote– and it's been decades
- 22:19Speaker 1: since that's happened– what happens is they have to cobble
- 22:23Speaker 1: together various parties together. to make a majority. And that's
- 22:27Speaker 1: what Netanyahu has been able to do. He's a Likud party,
- 22:31Speaker 1: which is a very conservative party. But in order to
- 22:33Speaker 1: make the vote, in order to get his majority, what
- 22:36Speaker 1: he has to do and has done and will do
- 22:38Speaker 1: is get the super ultra-nationalist, fundamental religious parties that all
- 22:45Speaker 1: they care about is making sure Israel stays a state
- 22:49Speaker 1: without Palestine, no Palestinian state, And that the conservative movement stays–
- 22:58Speaker 1: and I mean conservative movement– for example, you have exemptions
- 23:04Speaker 1: in the army. Do you know that people who go
- 23:05Speaker 1: to religious schools are exempt from going into the army?
- 23:09Speaker 1: If you're studying the Torah, and that's all you study.
- 23:12Speaker 1: It's like a madrasa in Arab countries. All you do
- 23:16Speaker 1: is study Torah and religion. You're exempt from going to
- 23:18Speaker 1: the army. Let me tell you about the rest of
- 23:20Speaker 1: the people who've had family members who died defending Israel,
- 23:23Speaker 1: how they deal with it. But they're able to do
- 23:25Speaker 1: that in Israel because they need that party. The ruling
- 23:31Speaker 1: party needs that in order to remain in power. Okay,
- 23:36Speaker 1: so Netanyahu is running. And people are very upset with Netanyahu.
- 23:41Speaker 1: He's been around for 19 years, the longest-running PM, prime
- 23:44Speaker 1: minister that Israel's ever had. And they're really angry with him,
- 23:48Speaker 1: mainly because the October 7th attack, and it was a
- 23:51Speaker 1: complete fiasco. The intelligence of Israel, which is usually the
- 23:55Speaker 1: best in the world, missed it completely. And 1,250 Israelis died,
- 24:01Speaker 1: 250 were taken hostage, and nobody was very happy about it.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And so what's going to happen tomorrow? Well, I'm going
- 24:09Speaker 1: to spend some time tomorrow talking about the vote while
- 24:12Speaker 1: it's happening. But I will tell you one fact before
- 24:16Speaker 1: I bail out. You have to– in Israel, you have
- 24:20Speaker 1: to vote in person. You can't vote by mail. You
- 24:23Speaker 1: can't vote at embassies. Most countries, you simply show up
- 24:27Speaker 1: to the council, council general office, and you vote if
- 24:31Speaker 1: you're a citizen of that country. Not in Israel. Israel,
- 24:34Speaker 1: you have to vote in person. So there are about
- 24:38Speaker 1: 70,000 expats, of which most of them live here in
- 24:41Speaker 1: the United States, that are flying back to Israel. Okay,
- 24:44Speaker 1: with that, as you may know, Netanyahu is very close
- 24:48Speaker 1: to Donald Trump and runs his government very close to
- 24:53Speaker 1: the way the administration runs. There is an organization, a nonprofit,
- 24:58Speaker 1: that helps Israelis come and vote in airfares, hotels, what
- 25:06Speaker 1: they do is do the liaison. It's like a big
- 25:11Speaker 1: travel agency, if you will, helping Israelis come back. Since
- 25:15Speaker 1: the assumption of Israelis coming back to vote are anti-Netanyahu,
- 25:19Speaker 1: which is actually true, certainly the polls have said that,
- 25:25Speaker 1: Netanyahu went to court and to have that organization invalidated.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It is illegal to help Israelis come to Israel and vote.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Ask the court to say this organization cannot help Israelis
- 25:40Speaker 1: come to court. It's a nonprofit. They don't ask who
- 25:44Speaker 1: it is, who they're voting for, but guess what? Let's
- 25:49Speaker 1: try to stop them because we think, actually, we know
- 25:51Speaker 1: that it's an anti-Netanyahu vote. It's crazy. Tomorrow I'll spend
- 25:56Speaker 1: a whole lot more time talking about this. And there's
- 25:59Speaker 1: a world of what's happening in Israel. And how it
- 26:01Speaker 1: affects us is very, very big time and very important.
- 26:05Speaker 1: And that's it. We're done, guys. The Tuesday starts tomorrow,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and we do this all over again. It's Will and
- 26:12Speaker 1: Amy wake-up call. Tony is back next Monday. So tomorrow
- 26:18Speaker 1: it's Mario. He comes back. Neil and I are here
- 26:22Speaker 1: at 6 o'clock until right about now. You've been listening
- 26:25Speaker 1: to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my show Monday through Friday,
- 26:28Speaker 1: 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and anytime on demand on
- 26:31Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app.
