Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody.
- 0:10Speaker 2: This is the preview edition of Birds Weekly, presented by
- 0:13Speaker 2: the Inside of the Birds Network for my man, former
- 0:16Speaker 2: NFL player, former Super Bowl champion, Barrett Brooks, who never
- 0:20Speaker 2: let me touch his ring. By the way, I'm Derek Gunn.
- 0:22Speaker 2: He calls himself a friend. But that's another story. B Brooks.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Playoffs to hear baby playoffs, That's.
- 0:28Speaker 3: What I'm talking about.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I thought you were talking about somebody else, you know
- 0:30Speaker 1: what I mean, probably nice to me saying nice thing
- 0:33Speaker 1: about me.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Oh okay, ought were good.
- 0:35Speaker 2: It's a new year, man, No, I'm not turn over
- 0:38Speaker 2: a new leaf.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Man.
- 0:39Speaker 2: You caused me a lot of grief in my lifetime,
- 0:41Speaker 2: a lot of antagonism. You've lied to me and my family.
- 0:44Speaker 2: That's another story for another day anyway. All Right, So
- 0:48Speaker 2: the dates, the times, the weares are set. The Eagles
- 0:52Speaker 2: head to the playoffs as the three seed. Their first
- 0:54Speaker 2: opponent is the San Francisco forty nine Ers. This was
- 0:59Speaker 2: a forty nine Ers team that was on a roll.
- 1:01Speaker 2: They were to talk of the league. Every won six
- 1:03Speaker 2: in a row, and all of a sudden, the last
- 1:04Speaker 2: game of the season they crash and burn against Seattle.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Seattle basically revealed a blueprint on this team, b Brooks.
- 1:11Speaker 2: If you can control Christian McCaffrey, you can control that
- 1:16Speaker 2: play action offense of the forty nine ers. Now we're
- 1:19Speaker 2: talking about almost a superhuman being when you talk about
- 1:23Speaker 2: Christian McCaffrey. This man had three hundred eleven carries for
- 1:26Speaker 2: over twelve hundred yards rushing. He had almost one thousand
- 1:30Speaker 2: yards receiving. This man is the offense of the forty niners.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Do you agree wholeheartedly if you can control him the
- 1:38Speaker 2: way Seattle did, that's your best road to success in
- 1:42Speaker 2: this game.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Absolutely? Absolutely.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I think that he is the key cock that makes
- 1:47Speaker 1: that whole machine run.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Now, what people.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Don't understand is you want to stop the run, but
- 1:52Speaker 1: the run is not what they do. They're not based
- 1:55Speaker 1: off their run. They're based off of pass. And the
- 1:57Speaker 1: reason they can do that because everybody has the notion
- 1:59Speaker 1: that you have to say, stop Christian McCaffrey in the
- 2:01Speaker 1: run game. Now, I'll tell you how to stop hi,
- 2:03Speaker 1: miss christ mccafy in a run game. Wherever you see
- 2:08Speaker 1: their full back goal, that's where the ball is going.
- 2:12Speaker 1: They have circle motions, they have motions that aren't flying everywhere.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Well Watshed what's his name? Us Check? You watch where
- 2:18Speaker 1: us Check goes and wherever Kyle goes, that ball is
- 2:22Speaker 1: gonna go. So you can stop the run against them.
- 2:26Speaker 1: What's the passing game that they involved with it? That's
- 2:29Speaker 1: what makes it so hard to deal with because that
- 2:32Speaker 1: play action has done so well. They pull up underneath
- 2:35Speaker 1: center and party, say what you want to say. He's
- 2:37Speaker 1: worth the money they paid for him. If you light
- 2:40Speaker 1: him up, you kind of make him human again. But
- 2:43Speaker 1: I mean Rob Perdy, he showed me something this year.
- 2:47Speaker 1: You know, once he came back from the injury, he
- 2:49Speaker 1: started holding it. He and he knows that offense like
- 2:51Speaker 1: the back of his hand. He sees where things go open.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And when you have a guy like Kyle, the have
- 2:56Speaker 1: a guy like Shanahan the head coach, he gets the
- 2:59Speaker 1: skin teams that schemes out schemes just about anybody in
- 3:03Speaker 1: the NFL. Man. So I mean that's a match made
- 3:05Speaker 1: of heaven. Rock Purdy. You got a really good tight
- 3:08Speaker 1: end and Kittle then talk about a running back and
- 3:11Speaker 1: do everything and a full back. That also helps in
- 3:14Speaker 1: that they're really really hard because they got so many
- 3:16Speaker 1: guys flying everywhere, Like where do you pick who do
- 3:19Speaker 1: you stop. So I mean if you can stop, if
- 3:22Speaker 1: you can stop, you know, Christian McCaffrey, I think you
- 3:27Speaker 1: will stop their offense.
- 3:29Speaker 3: You can stop their offense.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And I think that we have the personnel to do it.
- 3:36Speaker 2: You know, you brought up Kyle Shanahan, and I think
- 3:40Speaker 2: he's one of the most innovative offensive minds in all
- 3:43Speaker 2: of pro football. And we always talk about players going
- 3:47Speaker 2: from one team to another being system type players. But
- 3:50Speaker 2: when you look at the quarterback play, look at how
- 3:53Speaker 2: many quarterbacks he's had in this offense, and they've all
- 3:55Speaker 2: had a good measure of success.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So I don't know how you define.
- 3:59Speaker 2: This offense, but it is a quarterback friendly offense because
- 4:03Speaker 2: he's helped make a lot of quarterbacks a lot of money.
- 4:06Speaker 2: He's helped make a lot of quarterbacks become national conversations.
- 4:10Speaker 2: You know, when you look at a Brock party, the
- 4:13Speaker 2: conversation about him has been indifferent. But all of a sudden,
- 4:17Speaker 2: he got in the rhythm of that offense parlay that
- 4:20Speaker 2: into some big money. Look at where he is right now.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Kyle Shanahan, to me, in a lot of ways, just
- 4:25Speaker 2: scheming is a bigger is a bigger problem for a
- 4:29Speaker 2: defense than the offensive personnel that he's sending out there
- 4:33Speaker 2: moving the chess pieces.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Absolutely, you know what I mean. And it brings back
- 4:37Speaker 1: to that Bears game. And I watched the Bears game.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I'm like, man, how is he gonna scheme this? And
- 4:42Speaker 1: I just watched the different games he had, But I
- 4:44Speaker 1: remember early in the game they ran to play where
- 4:46Speaker 1: they ran their tight end up the field, and soon
- 4:50Speaker 1: they ran a tight end up the field. It wasn't
- 4:52Speaker 1: it wasn't. It wasn't Kittles. The other tight end, I
- 4:55Speaker 1: forget his name, Tongues or something like that. Tongue, Tongue,
- 4:58Speaker 1: just whatever his name is. They ran up the field
- 5:00Speaker 1: on the seam route, and as soon as they ran
- 5:03Speaker 1: up the field on the seam route, that linebacker just
- 5:07Speaker 1: snatched on to him. Well, that linebacker, it was almost
- 5:10Speaker 1: like a Tampa two. He's got to be the far,
- 5:12Speaker 1: he's got to be back, almost like a safety. But
- 5:14Speaker 1: instead of him going all the way back like a safety,
- 5:16Speaker 1: he jumped in on that tight end and played aggressive
- 5:18Speaker 1: on him, and uh, they threw the ball to him
- 5:20Speaker 1: and they stopped him right there, you know. So it
- 5:22Speaker 1: was a great play by him. So he saw that
- 5:24Speaker 1: and to win the game. Later on in the game,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know, the last play in the game drawn Jennings,
- 5:31Speaker 1: they put the tight end right back in there and
- 5:34Speaker 1: and I mean, I'm talking about tonge. I forget what
- 5:37Speaker 1: was it?
- 5:38Speaker 3: Who was that? Was it? A? Yeah? I think it
- 5:40Speaker 3: was something.
- 5:41Speaker 1: But then they run the same play and they run
- 5:44Speaker 1: uh tungs wherever's name is up the field right end,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and once again the linebacker snapped on him and grabbed
- 5:52Speaker 1: him and like all right, bam, So what do they
- 5:54Speaker 1: do that he has that deep part of the field
- 5:57Speaker 1: to state him going to the deep part of the field.
- 5:58Speaker 1: He snatched that tight end, So what do they do?
- 6:01Speaker 1: They ran Juwan j Jennings right behind him where he
- 6:04Speaker 1: was supposed to be and hit him on that route
- 6:07Speaker 1: going across the field, and he took it in for
- 6:09Speaker 1: a touchdown. That's him remembering, all right, you're gonna play
- 6:13Speaker 1: that aggressive linus on that tight end. I'm gonna make
- 6:15Speaker 1: sure I'm gonna beat you with that by using you
- 6:18Speaker 1: going down and stopping the tight end, and we're gonna
- 6:20Speaker 1: run somebody right behind the back of you hit Jennings
- 6:23Speaker 1: for a touchdown. Wind the winning the game for him.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That's the things that you have to worry about with Shanahan. Now,
- 6:28Speaker 1: when I look at our defense, this is I mean,
- 6:30Speaker 1: it's gonna be a class just like you said, this
- 6:32Speaker 1: is a class of the Titans between an offensive coordinator
- 6:35Speaker 1: slash head coach and in Shanahan and then Joe. I
- 6:40Speaker 1: mean I said Joe, I will say, Joe Baday, uh
- 6:46Speaker 1: you and and and and and you know our defensive coordinator.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Fangio.
- 6:53Speaker 1: These two old school guys are gonna I mean, they're
- 6:56Speaker 1: gonna try to out scheme each other.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Clash of the Titans, our.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Best play caller and the defensive side of the ball
- 7:02Speaker 1: against Darren plus play called the office side of the
- 7:04Speaker 1: ball and let the chips fallward. They may I kind
- 7:07Speaker 1: of like what our situation is. I think that we
- 7:10Speaker 1: can scheme up those guys. We have a personnel to
- 7:12Speaker 1: do it. The only thing is Shanahan is gonna scheme
- 7:15Speaker 1: up plays in which he's gonna have Dorry Jackson one
- 7:19Speaker 1: on one he's gonna try to take advantage of. But
- 7:24Speaker 1: he's gonna find a way to figure out where Jackson
- 7:27Speaker 1: is gonna be in the field. He's gonna try to
- 7:29Speaker 1: take advantage of it, and you know I can see
- 7:32Speaker 1: him doing that, but I mean not not to say that.
- 7:34Speaker 1: You know, Dorit has been playing well, the Dorry played
- 7:37Speaker 1: well the second half the season. But also see why
- 7:40Speaker 1: he was you know why he's playing and why nobody
- 7:43Speaker 1: could be thrown them those guys the previous week, I
- 7:46Speaker 1: mean Bennett, but yes, he's gonna try to scheme up
- 7:53Speaker 1: with Doriry Jackson. He's gonna try to try to scheme
- 7:54Speaker 1: up Campbell also, you know Jihad Campbell too, so he's
- 7:58Speaker 1: gonna try to take advantage of the youth and him.
- 8:00Speaker 3: And then also the play of Jackson.
- 8:02Speaker 2: You know, you're talking about the key personnel on the
- 8:05Speaker 2: forty nine ers, but this is not the explosive. Although
- 8:09Speaker 2: they were averaging thirty four points a game over a
- 8:11Speaker 2: six game stretch when they were winning before they got
- 8:13Speaker 2: held to three points by Seattle, this is not the
- 8:16Speaker 2: overall talent Layton offense that we were accustomed to seeing
- 8:19Speaker 2: in San Francisco. You know, Deebo Samuel left and went
- 8:22Speaker 2: to Washington. Brandon Nayuk is in a witness protection program.
- 8:25Speaker 3: No way, he's on IR. Yeah, I see him.
- 8:28Speaker 2: You know, people keep talking about nobody's seen him out
- 8:31Speaker 2: in San Francisco. You know, but Juwan Jennings has really
- 8:34Speaker 2: stepped up and made a name for himself this season.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I think he's one of the more underrated pass catcher
- 8:40Speaker 2: slash route runners in the National Football League.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
- 8:46Speaker 4: to clean up their habits and that includes me. Honestly,

- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah, he showed you give the opportunity, you know, you
- 12:08Speaker 1: got to go out there and take advantage of it.
- 12:09Speaker 1: He's definitely taken advantage of it. He wants to get paid.
- 12:12Speaker 1: This is payday year, you know, he's he wants to
- 12:13Speaker 1: get that money man. So yeah, and then another guy,
- 12:17Speaker 1: you know, Ricky Pirisar, he'll be back. All yeah, Chris's back,
- 12:20Speaker 1: you know. And and he's you know, he's one of
- 12:23Speaker 1: the most underrated second receivers or third receivers in the
- 12:27Speaker 1: league right now because he can he gets open, he
- 12:30Speaker 1: knows how to get open. He sits where he's supposed
- 12:32Speaker 1: to sit. He could run past people. His his speed
- 12:35Speaker 1: is you know, is is you know, not overwhelming, but
- 12:40Speaker 1: you know he keeps you thinking. He's quick enough that
- 12:42Speaker 1: he keeps you thinking. So those guys can make some plays.
- 12:45Speaker 1: They can definitely make some plays. And you know, Brock
- 12:48Speaker 1: Perdy is the perfect quarterback for the system. M M.
- 12:50Speaker 2: You know, you look at you were talking about Kyle
- 12:54Speaker 2: Shanahan versus Nick Fangio. What about Robert Robert Sella, you
- 12:59Speaker 2: know who I think is a right defensive mind versus
- 13:02Speaker 2: Nick Sirianni slash Kevin Batula. Now you look at the
- 13:05Speaker 2: forty nine ers defense overall, they're nicked up personnel wise.
- 13:08Speaker 2: The two best players are out, you know, Fred Warner,
- 13:12Speaker 2: Fred Walker. Yeah, Warner may come back later in the
- 13:15Speaker 2: playoffs if the forty nine Ers are still in, but
- 13:17Speaker 2: they're out. You know, the forty nine Ers give up
- 13:20Speaker 2: a lot of yards, but interestingly enough, they don't give
- 13:22Speaker 2: up a lot of points. Is twenty one points enough
- 13:27Speaker 2: for this Eagles offense to beat the forty nine ers?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Eagles struggle to score twenty one points? Again, with all
- 13:34Speaker 2: the money and the talent they have invested in that offense,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and this offense struggles to score twenty one points. They
- 13:41Speaker 2: leave the league in three and outs. And they were
- 13:43Speaker 2: one of the top three offenses that didn't score points
- 13:48Speaker 2: and a half. I think it was two times this
- 13:49Speaker 2: season they didn't score points and a half. They're one
- 13:51Speaker 2: of the top three offenses that didn't score points and
- 13:53Speaker 2: a half. On paper, the Eagles are superior offense versus
- 13:59Speaker 2: their defense, don't. I don't trust it. I got to
- 14:03Speaker 2: see it to believe it. I don't trust it after
- 14:05Speaker 2: seventeen games.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I think you'll see it this game, because you know
- 14:08Speaker 1: they're gonna look across the line to see Bryce Huff.
- 14:17Speaker 3: They're gonna try to destroy him.
- 14:18Speaker 1: He's their best player right now on the defensive line.
- 14:20Speaker 1: But when I also look at it, I just think
- 14:23Speaker 1: that we have a healthy offensive line going into this week.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And I think that's the biggest thing. This line, old
- 14:30Speaker 1: line is healthy now. They've been the walking wounded for
- 14:32Speaker 1: so long this entire season. I don't see how Cam
- 14:35Speaker 1: has been playing. Man, his back is gone. His back
- 14:38Speaker 1: is you know, I hate you know what you could
- 14:42Speaker 1: tell when he's walking. You can tell his demeanor. You know,
- 14:44Speaker 1: his back has really been playing havoc on him. You know,
- 14:47Speaker 1: even though he went to the Pro Bowl this year,
- 14:49Speaker 1: he did not have a good year. To me, uh
- 14:51Speaker 1: to to just say that, you know, all right, he's
- 14:53Speaker 1: played that well. But I'll say this this week off
- 14:58Speaker 1: was needed. Last week it was definitely needed. And I'm
- 15:01Speaker 1: gonna say this, Dickerson needed that same time off. And oh,
- 15:05Speaker 1: by the way, even though Jordan Malatta has not been
- 15:08Speaker 1: on the injury report, he is still the walking wound
- 15:11Speaker 1: at all. So he's playing and gutting it, gutting it out,
- 15:13Speaker 1: you know, and you gotta, you know, you you you
- 15:16Speaker 1: want to give them some some you know, some some
- 15:18Speaker 1: some All right, great job, guys, but it was almost
- 15:21Speaker 1: to a detriment because they just didn't have anybody else
- 15:23Speaker 1: that was healthy enough to go in and play for him.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Now we get Lane back. Now Lane's gonna stop all
- 15:29Speaker 1: that stuff tylerd stem was doing and get him playing
- 15:31Speaker 1: consistently again. When Lang was there, he played very consistent.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Since Lane wasn't there, he hasn't played as consistent. So
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know, hopefully, you know, he gets back to that
- 15:40Speaker 1: consistent play. Cam Jurgens becomes, you know, plays more healthier.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Dickerson the same way, you know, his knee and his ankle,
- 15:47Speaker 1: and Jordan, you know, maybe get some self evaluation and
- 15:50Speaker 1: look at film and say, look, this is what I've
- 15:52Speaker 1: been doing wrong.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Let you make it right. And if they can play a.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Discplant game up front, and move the line of scrimmage.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I think that this could be a blowout. I'm saying
- 16:00Speaker 1: it right now. It could be a blowout. Yes, really, yes,
- 16:03Speaker 1: I do, yes, I do. Wow. Everybody want us, you know,
- 16:08Speaker 1: to lose. I mean, to win last week's game to
- 16:10Speaker 1: be the second seed. There's nobody in this in this
- 16:13Speaker 1: conference that really scared me enough. I mean, even with
- 16:16Speaker 1: you know, Seattle playing the way they're playing, I think
- 16:18Speaker 1: we match up well because it's like watching two mirror teams.
- 16:22Speaker 1: You know, they just they have a We have a
- 16:24Speaker 1: quarterback that doesn't throw a lot of interception. They have
- 16:26Speaker 1: a quarterback that throws a lot of interception. We run
- 16:28Speaker 1: the ball sometimes they run the ball. Sometimes. You know,
- 16:33Speaker 1: they have one you know receiver. What's his name, Yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 1: in Jigua. He's he's the truth, He's the real deal.
- 16:41Speaker 1: But you know, we have two guys that are pretty
- 16:43Speaker 1: good also, So I think, you know, we match up
- 16:45Speaker 1: well in their defense. Our defense some of the top
- 16:48Speaker 1: defenses in the league. So this could be a great game.
- 16:51Speaker 1: If we do go against a Seattle, I can think
- 16:54Speaker 1: we can beat up on them. But to me, the
- 16:56Speaker 1: most favorable matchup would have to be this forty nine
- 17:01Speaker 1: ers team because they had to play play, you know,
- 17:04Speaker 1: to get in they had to play play to get positioning.
- 17:07Speaker 3: So all there's guys played are guys rested.
- 17:11Speaker 1: So it didn't really make me much difference that you
- 17:12Speaker 1: know who they played, just as long as they're playing,
- 17:15Speaker 1: and that's all I care about. They got healthy, and
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think that's the winning brand of football we needed.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Last week.
- 17:22Speaker 1: You know, our second team almost beat a Washington team.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You know, sure about it. I wouldn't worry about it.
- 17:27Speaker 2: All right, the moment of truth. Who do you like
- 17:29Speaker 2: in this game? Give me a score and why.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I like the Eagles.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I like the Eagles winning this game twenty eight seventeen
- 17:38Speaker 1: because seventeen is the magic number on your defense. You
- 17:41Speaker 1: keep a team under seventeen. Yeah, that's the magic number.
- 17:44Speaker 1: So I say, twenty eight seventeen. Eagles go out and
- 17:48Speaker 1: show everybody that they're a team that can handle anybody
- 17:52Speaker 1: on the officer side of the ball because they stay consistent,
- 17:55Speaker 1: they stay with the discipline football to win games. And
- 17:58Speaker 1: then their defense goes and shows how dominant they could
- 18:01Speaker 1: be against a really good forty nine er offense.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I don't know how this Eagles offense is gonna score
- 18:07Speaker 2: twenty eight points. The only time they score twenty eight
- 18:10Speaker 2: points is when they play a team like the Raiders,
- 18:12Speaker 2: you know, or Washington or somebody like that. I don't
- 18:15Speaker 2: know how they're gonna score twenty eight points, but I
- 18:18Speaker 2: do think because they're playing at home, and I do
- 18:21Speaker 2: think their offensive talent by far out waige the forty
- 18:25Speaker 2: nine ers defensive personnel. I like the Eagles in this
- 18:28Speaker 2: game twenty four to twenty. I think they're gonna make
- 18:31Speaker 2: people sit there and bite their nails for a while.
- 18:33Speaker 2: We're gonna be screaming as the TVs. Unless you're in
- 18:36Speaker 2: the stadium itself, We're gonna be screaming as the TVs,
- 18:39Speaker 2: asking Kevin and Nick, what are you doing? Why did
- 18:42Speaker 2: you run this play on this down? What are you thinking?
- 18:45Speaker 2: Like I said before, I think Patullo slash Sirianni are
- 18:49Speaker 2: gonna find a way to keep the forty nine Ers
- 18:51Speaker 2: in this game and make it a lot more interesting
- 18:53Speaker 2: than it should be. But I do think, I do
- 18:56Speaker 2: think the Eagles should prevail. They've had the extra rest.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Forty nine Ers are coming up here battered and beat up.
- 19:02Speaker 2: They had to play a rough divisional game. They were
- 19:05Speaker 2: playing for the number one seed, and I think, plus
- 19:08Speaker 2: they gotta travel three thousand miles across country, I think
- 19:11Speaker 2: they could have an adverse effect on.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Them as well.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So I'm gonna pick the Eagles twenty four to twenty
- 19:17Speaker 2: to win this game, all right for my man Barret Brooks.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I'm Derek Gunn. This has been the preview edition of
- 19:23Speaker 2: Birds Weekly, presented by the Inside of the Birds Network.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Hopefully both of us are right in terms of the
- 19:28Speaker 2: Eagles winning this game and moving on to the next
- 19:31Speaker 2: rounde until after this game is all said and done,
- 19:33Speaker 2: so long, everybody,
