- 0:06Speaker 1: All right, guys, thanks for joining Heavy. We're here today
- 0:09Speaker 1: with newfound glory kicking things off first band of the day.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We know we got you out of bed early to
- 0:14Speaker 1: come to speak to us. Thanks for joining us, thanks
- 0:17Speaker 1: for having us my pleasures, so good Things finish is
- 0:21Speaker 1: up today, two shows down, one to go today in Brisbane,
- 0:25Speaker 1: how are Melbourne?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Sydney?
- 0:27Speaker 3: Sydney was unbearably hot and dry, so it's not as
- 0:31Speaker 3: hot today all though it's sweaty, but we're good.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Melbourne's great. I mean, we're just very happy to be
- 0:35Speaker 2: on this festival.
- 0:36Speaker 3: It's been eight years since we've been down on now yeah,
- 0:38Speaker 3: so it's nice to just be back in the country.
- 0:40Speaker 2: But obviously good things. It's an awesome festival.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Were taken part in sound way back in the day
- 0:45Speaker 3: and also Warped tours and I.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Think any festival here in Australia.
- 0:48Speaker 3: It's great lineups, eclectic lineups, lots of our friends and
- 0:52Speaker 3: just happy.
- 0:52Speaker 2: To be here.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Oh I think after eight years, did you find that
- 0:56Speaker 1: your fans are still with you or would you sort
- 0:57Speaker 1: of have to win them over again? I know it's
- 0:59Speaker 1: trying to get sh It's pretty easy. It would have
- 1:01Speaker 1: been long stick it out yours, but.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I think they've been patiently waiting. Yeah, I think it's
- 1:07Speaker 2: been good.
- 1:08Speaker 4: And then I think over time, you kind of I
- 1:10Speaker 4: think with any band, you lose some fans, you gained
- 1:12Speaker 4: some new fans. So there's fans that have just saw
- 1:15Speaker 4: us for like the first time, so it's kind of
- 1:17Speaker 4: like starting all over again. But it's pretty awesome.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Cool. And of course, bands like yourself, seasoned professionals always
- 1:24Speaker 1: say good best in July, So why is a Brisbane
- 1:26Speaker 1: show going to be the best one? Good things from
- 1:28Speaker 1: you guys.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I'll tell you why selfishly, because we don't have to
- 1:33Speaker 3: go right to an airport after we play.
- 1:35Speaker 2: We get to actually be here all day.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I will also tell you why it's going to be
- 1:39Speaker 3: the best is because we have this little known secret
- 1:42Speaker 3: performance we're going to do today that I'm sure as
- 1:45Speaker 3: long as you're not streaming live right now. Well yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 3: so yeah, we're having so much fun at this.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Festival that we are going to play again. There's a
- 1:53Speaker 2: secret garage stage that's.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Just over Yonder and we're gonna go and play some
- 1:57Speaker 3: more songs at around five o'clock.
- 1:58Speaker 2: So that was to jump it up.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We might bring.
- 2:02Speaker 2: We might bring a special friend with us to sing
- 2:04Speaker 2: a couple of songs gives a hit, so you don't
- 2:07Speaker 2: want to miss it, although you already have. If you're
- 2:09Speaker 2: watching this.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Little hand does just be careful in the ocean?
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I Amy Shock you Amy Shock coming. I don't know.
- 2:20Speaker 2: One of you might be one of you, might be right.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It's ways anyway.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, And is there a time, guys from this
- 2:29Speaker 1: run or past Aussie tours that will stick with you
- 2:31Speaker 1: for life.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I think the first well, okay, this festival is amazing
- 2:37Speaker 3: and I can't wait already to come back and play
- 2:39Speaker 3: it again or even just do our own shows. But
- 2:41Speaker 3: I think all of us, like I remember the first
- 2:43Speaker 3: time we ever came here to Australia was like probably
- 2:46Speaker 3: two thousand and three maybe or something, or two thousand
- 2:49Speaker 3: and two, yeah, because I remember being in our hotel
- 2:52Speaker 3: and getting a VHS copy of my Friend's Over You,
- 2:55Speaker 3: the music video before it had come out. Yeah, and
- 2:57Speaker 3: they had to send the VHS across the world for
- 3:00Speaker 3: us to say it was okay because they wanted to
- 3:01Speaker 3: put it out. But that was part of the Warped
- 3:03Speaker 3: tour back in the day, and this was us and
- 3:07Speaker 3: I think Mighty Money, Bosstones.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Milling Collins, all the Vandals.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, but we were writing this is the infancy of
- 3:15Speaker 3: festivals out here, and we were writing in coaches.
- 3:18Speaker 2: There was no flights.
- 3:19Speaker 3: We weren't flying, and we were writing and coaches in
- 3:22Speaker 3: between cities. So like literally from you know, Melbourne to Sydney.
- 3:25Speaker 3: We drove that that ten hours overnight and just a coach,
- 3:29Speaker 3: you know, and all of us were in a bus
- 3:30Speaker 3: with like the mighty Mighty Bostones are yelling at us
- 3:32Speaker 3: to be quiet because they're trying to sleep, and you know,
- 3:35Speaker 3: but I'll never forget that and how we're just guys
- 3:38Speaker 3: from Florida that started a band in our parents' garage,
- 3:40Speaker 3: you know, and now here we are in Australia playing
- 3:42Speaker 3: for thousands of people.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It's just amazing. And now we're back for whatever. It's
- 3:46Speaker 2: like the eighth or ninth times. I mean it's great.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I mean, just as a fan of music before I
- 3:51Speaker 4: was even in this band, like growing up Under in
- 3:55Speaker 4: Law was like one of my favorite bands, and they
- 3:57Speaker 4: come here so many times, so it was like one
- 3:59Speaker 4: of those places I just always wanted to go.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And you know what you guys are probably say more
- 4:03Speaker 3: of Australia than me and like half the other people
- 4:06Speaker 3: because you've driven around.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Well that's nuts. Well, I mean, I tell you what,
- 4:11Speaker 2: we never did that again. Even more.
- 4:14Speaker 3: They learned their lesson and the next year it was there,
- 4:16Speaker 3: flying everywhere because you just can't.
- 4:18Speaker 1: True much, true much.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And have you discovered any bands who liked on this
- 4:23Speaker 2: line up?
- 4:24Speaker 3: Well, like I said before, unfortunately the last two shows
- 4:27Speaker 3: after we played, we literally went straight to the airport.
- 4:29Speaker 3: So it's like I could look at the you know,
- 4:31Speaker 3: line up and tell you somebody, but I haven't been
- 4:33Speaker 3: able to see anybody.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But it all, it all changes today.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I think there.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I think there's one band.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I think it's called South Arcade.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Right, I don't think South Atlanta.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, let's look at the We're not very good interview.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Is not knowing who the hell's on the line as
- 4:58Speaker 2: you asked that, you asked that next question, you.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Gotta think about this one.
- 5:02Speaker 4: So he's probably South Arcade.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I am going at all.
- 5:07Speaker 4: So they're on the festival. I heard of them just
- 5:12Speaker 4: by flipping through reels on my phone.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think they're I think they're from the UK. Okay,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I can't see them around but.
- 5:18Speaker 4: I haven't talked to them yet. Yeah, but they play
- 5:20Speaker 4: I think at the same time we do on a
- 5:21Speaker 4: different stage. So get we get to watch it.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Wait, So Mid Found Glory will be releasing your new
- 5:29Speaker 1: and eleven studio album.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Listen up what Feb. Twenty is.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So you've got to be pumped for that, especially if
- 5:34Speaker 1: you've been playing a few of the new songs on
- 5:36Speaker 1: this draw.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, definitely excited for that to come out.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I know we're a little early to be over here
- 5:41Speaker 3: promoting it, but I'm glad that we're.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Able to do that. And uh yeah, I mean it's
- 5:44Speaker 2: been a couple of years since we put out a
- 5:45Speaker 2: full length record.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Like you said, this is our eleventh album, so it's
- 5:49Speaker 3: gonna be hard to remember these songs. But look, we
- 5:52Speaker 3: we I think we have a great collection of songs
- 5:54Speaker 3: on the record. We're doing what we do best. There's
- 5:57Speaker 3: a lots there's lots of guitar riffs on this record. Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 3: and I think there's a little bit for everybody. There
- 6:04Speaker 3: are songs that are a little heavier. I mean we
- 6:05Speaker 3: say this a lot, but like there's songs that are heavier,
- 6:07Speaker 3: there's songs that are slower, there's songs that are reminiscent
- 6:10Speaker 3: of Radio Surgery.
- 6:11Speaker 2: One of our records, there's.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Uh, you know, songs that are about us in relationships,
- 6:15Speaker 3: which is normal, but then even a song about kind
- 6:17Speaker 3: of us coming up in the South Florida music scene.
- 6:20Speaker 3: It's called Beer and Bloodstains, and it's like an ode
- 6:22Speaker 3: to you know, what we felt like when we were first.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Starting our band. And so again a little bit for everybody.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And I think people will get something out of this
- 6:29Speaker 3: record no matter who you are.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yes, right. And one thing I did notice was what
- 6:34Speaker 1: there's an exclamation mark I have to listen up in
- 6:36Speaker 1: the title A lot you're trying to say something like
- 6:39Speaker 1: the extra mition mak's main.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Something and say, what is that?
- 6:42Speaker 1: Why is that MF on the title?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well, I think and Ian can also attest to this.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Ironically, the first lyrics you will hear on the record
- 6:51Speaker 3: is listen up. So you know, it was like an
- 6:54Speaker 3: easy way for us to kind of name the records
- 6:56Speaker 3: because it definitely starts the record and it can give
- 6:58Speaker 3: you a theme and like, yeah, I mean listen up,
- 7:00Speaker 3: you might as well listen to what's going on the record,
- 7:02Speaker 3: and in all different ways musically, lyrically, you know, don't
- 7:06Speaker 3: especially nowadays nowadays people are streaming and there's like, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 3: we come from we come from the era where it
- 7:12Speaker 3: was the CD or the cassette and brestplay and you
- 7:15Speaker 3: let it go, and there's like it takes you on
- 7:17Speaker 3: a journey, and nowadays is like, you know, an album
- 7:19Speaker 3: stream here, an album stream there, or a song or whatever.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And so yeah, listen up to the old.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And I think I think too, it's not necessarily about
- 7:28Speaker 4: like just the record or this or that, with just
- 7:30Speaker 4: everything going in on the world, whatever you're passionate about,
- 7:34Speaker 4: whoever you are, just listen to what's going on. So
- 7:38Speaker 4: I think the exclamation point is just kind of like
- 7:40Speaker 4: it's for you, you know what I mean, Listen up
- 7:42Speaker 4: to what's important to you.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you've both been part of Newfound Glory's evolution for years.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Is there a song that feels different or more personal
- 7:54Speaker 4: now for.
- 7:55Speaker 2: You guys to play?
- 7:58Speaker 3: I mean there's songs that feel different because they're really
- 8:01Speaker 3: fast and I'm a little I'm not a spring chicken,
- 8:03Speaker 3: and so I feel different after I finished them. You know,
- 8:08Speaker 3: I think, like for me, it's crazy because when we
- 8:10Speaker 3: play the song hit or Miss, which has been in
- 8:12Speaker 3: our catalog since the early days.
- 8:14Speaker 2: You know, that's a song that it was like a.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Guitar riff that I had thought of in my parents'
- 8:19Speaker 3: bedroom and like wrote a whole song around and then
- 8:21Speaker 3: Chad heard that riff and was like, no, no, let's
- 8:24Speaker 3: can I take it and let's make a song around it.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And here we are thirty years later.
- 8:27Speaker 3: It's like we have to play it at every show,
- 8:29Speaker 3: and you know, it starts with that guitar rist So
- 8:32Speaker 3: whenever we start that song and the crowd knows what
- 8:34Speaker 3: it is and kind of like cheers, it's I mean,
- 8:37Speaker 3: nothing's changed about that. It is still just as amazing
- 8:40Speaker 3: as it was when we first started playing, when nobody
- 8:42Speaker 3: knew what it was, you know, and now it's just
- 8:43Speaker 3: one of those like staples in our set. It's pretty
- 8:45Speaker 3: amazing to be able to do this thirty years later
- 8:47Speaker 3: and that's still still going on.
- 8:52Speaker 1: You mentioned that it is your thirties, that adversary coming
- 8:54Speaker 1: up by twenty twenty seven. I believe like you guys
- 8:58Speaker 1: seem like he's like a party. So have you started
- 9:00Speaker 1: working on some cell right yetlight?
- 9:02Speaker 2: What are you doing? I don't think we're quite there yet.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I think we're just.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Trying to We're getting through this year, we've just started.
- 9:09Speaker 4: We just announced a tour in the US next year,
- 9:12Speaker 4: going out with yellow cart and plain white te's, and
- 9:16Speaker 4: then it's just kind of seeing where everyone's available and
- 9:19Speaker 4: just trying to go to as many places as we
- 9:21Speaker 4: can get to in the time that we have.
- 9:23Speaker 3: But if I know what you're saying, I mean, you're
- 9:25Speaker 3: doing the math and realizing that even though it's been
- 9:27Speaker 3: eight years since we've been here, you know, maybe not
- 9:29Speaker 3: every month, you would come back here, but that's two
- 9:32Speaker 3: years from now.
- 9:33Speaker 2: We do the backwards math.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I mean, I would like to come back here and
- 9:36Speaker 3: maybe you can coincide with some type of anniversary.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So yeah, you never know how you pick it up,
- 9:39Speaker 2: what'll put down.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Well, it seems like you kind of know what's going on,
- 9:42Speaker 3: because yeah, you're pretty good at guessing things. So no, No, seriously,
- 9:47Speaker 3: from what you said earlier, you're pretty good at guessing things.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Wink wink. So yeah, I think you. I don't know,
- 9:52Speaker 2: it would be nice if we can come back. We
- 9:54Speaker 2: don't have plans yet, but I would like to.
- 9:56Speaker 1: No, I sim thirty years is a long time, especially
- 9:59Speaker 1: on the music industry built for longevity these days. So
- 10:02Speaker 1: I know you haven't got a secret is not what
- 10:03Speaker 1: has but what do you think you guys still people
- 10:06Speaker 1: still love you coming back?
- 10:08Speaker 4: I mean the only thing that I could come up with.
- 10:11Speaker 4: I feel like when this band started, we were such
- 10:14Speaker 4: big fans of music in general that we were just
- 10:17Speaker 4: fans that were in a band. And I think being
- 10:20Speaker 4: in a band this long and never having an ego,
- 10:23Speaker 4: never letting the times that you're having success or the
- 10:27Speaker 4: times that you're not doing as well, I think our
- 10:30Speaker 4: biggest thing is appreciating everything that we've been given when
- 10:34Speaker 4: we got it, and knowing that without the fans and
- 10:37Speaker 4: the friends supporting you, that you're nothing. And so I
- 10:41Speaker 4: think that just this whole time, knowing that this could
- 10:44Speaker 4: all go away at any second, just one day a time,
- 10:47Speaker 4: appreciate it while you have it. And I think that
- 10:50Speaker 4: people that come to our shows, they see some of
- 10:52Speaker 4: themselves in us.
- 10:54Speaker 2: They're like, well, if they could do it, we can
- 10:56Speaker 2: do it.
- 10:57Speaker 4: And just to realize that we're not unapproachable, you know
- 11:00Speaker 4: what I mean.
- 11:01Speaker 2: There's so many people.
- 11:02Speaker 4: That will send like direct messages on Instagram. I didn't
- 11:05Speaker 4: think you'd ever reply, and it's like, if you can
- 11:08Speaker 4: just give people a piece of your time and show
- 11:10Speaker 4: them that you're just a real person too, I think
- 11:13Speaker 4: it just goes a long way.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Definitely, definitely. I've got one last question.
- 11:18Speaker 4: What's one aussy thing you could live without and one
- 11:21Speaker 4: ousy thing you could not live without?
- 11:22Speaker 2: That that's easy, no live without. I'm not a Vegiemite
- 11:26Speaker 2: Marmite fan. I'm sorry.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Sorry, Oh good, I thought you were gonna want You're
- 11:31Speaker 3: gonna want to knock me out for that.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but Marmite's English though, so well, I just see
- 11:40Speaker 2: it here more than anywhere else. I'm sorry.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe that was my first experience, but it was here,
- 11:45Speaker 3: not in the UK.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, yeah, true. We do sell any and one
- 11:49Speaker 2: thing that you could not live without.
- 11:50Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Just being here, honestly.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Yeah, because obviously I was gonna say Nando's, but Nando's
- 11:58Speaker 3: is not really azzy South African and it's in Australia
- 12:02Speaker 3: and the UK and a couple in the US as well.
- 12:04Speaker 4: So I think when we come here it is so
- 12:07Speaker 4: much like Florida here where we live, me and him,
- 12:11Speaker 4: that it just kind of like feels like a homeway.
- 12:13Speaker 2: From home nevers so much you day. You want to
- 12:33Speaker 2: feel that
