- 0:00SPEAKER_00: My brethren.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Are you keeping it loose?
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Hanging at least nine, possibly ten.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Whoa.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Mine's hanging two to a three.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: I didn't give you a unit.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Oh, true.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Microns.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Millimeters.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Plank length.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: The smallest measurable unit in the universe.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Plank length?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: What's that?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: It's like a four by two.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: It's about, you know, this big.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Wow, mine's about one by two.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Two's the width.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Damn, we love a Lego block, man.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: We do.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's three anyway, it doesn't matter.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Let's not let's not go there.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Let's not.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: It's been a big week as per the usual.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Bit on around the traps.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We've seen some live music over the weekend.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Um, we've got plenty more of live music to coming up coming up with tour announcements and stuff like that.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: This is the first time we've ever done like a forward seller what's on the show.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: This is this is weird.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I think it has.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Coming up on 78 amped.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Well, before we dive into everything, Maxwell, we should welcome the listener.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Kiddo.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: No, you just the one, just that one guy who's always there for us.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: You do that every time, yeah.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Hello.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Kiddo.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: We are an established friendship.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I wasn't gonna say podcast, because that's not true.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're very unestablished, I'd say.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Very much so.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Rogue.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Loose.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Rogue.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Rogue one.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Rouge, if you can't spell.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Reguo.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Ragu.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I don't like a duck ragu or a lamb ragu.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, can I get the lamb rogue, please?
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Sambo.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Important question.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: If you're going to a a restaurant of the Italiano version.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Obviously classic pastas.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: I don't want any like house specialties or anything like that.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Obviously classic pastas.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: What are you ordering?
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't do a creamy option.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Not crazy home.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: The old crematorium.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Happy with that one, were you?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: It beats itself and it turns to ash.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Shout out Pompeii.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Um Pumpy.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Rumpy Pumpy.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Uh I go for more of a tomato-based option.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Maybe a maybe a vodka pasta.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Perhaps.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Honestly, nothing beats a bit of a restaurant spag bowl.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, a spaggy bowl.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because they do it a little bit nicer.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: The mince is nice and textured.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: You get that, usually get that pork beef blend.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You do a bit of a 50-50.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Bit of this, bit of that in the meat variety.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Bit of milk in there.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Also important at a spaghetti bowl.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: At home, a bit of sugar, a bit of barbecue sauce as well.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it adds a bit of umami.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you just need a little bit of that fifth flavour, Sam.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: You do.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And what about you?
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: What do you go for?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Look, I don't I do fuck with a ragu, I won't lie.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: I do quite enjoy a ragu.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Or I like a proper carbonara.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Not like one that's got like cream in it, but like it's like guanciale, egg yolks, pecorino romano, delish.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Pecorino romano.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, raised.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: You beat me to it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Roman.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Brad.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Brad's also Brad's brother.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Also Brad's brother.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: What's his fucking name in the show?
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Um who knows?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Doesn't fucking matter.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Peter.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I got no idea.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: But with that in mind, Maxwell, let's not keep the people waiting.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Let's give them some new music to listen to.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Fresh Italian tunes, Sam, shall we?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: This one's called Nona's Pantry.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: His tunes are all Al fucking dente.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: That was a shout out to Tyson for breaking through.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Nona's trolley.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: These songs are all urethral.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Shout out to it.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Still gets me out.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Honestly, but it's some of the best stuff I've ever heard.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: I was crying while editing because it's not just the urethral.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: It's when he goes in a second time, he's like, eupheric.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: That was if listeners, if you haven't gone and listened to the drop that came out of the weekend with uh the breaking through pod, Brenton and Tyson, lovely lads, we talk about uh some new bands that you guys, new Australian bands that you guys need to hear about.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: And the the thing was we were gonna do 10.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: We got cut off halfway through because a guy walked in and so we only got eight.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: But um I yeah, just the you could tell that we'd had probably had two pints each because we were just a little bit loose, just a little bit loose.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I had a few too many Coke no sugars.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: It was bouncing off the walls.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: That was Randy.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Do you want to start us, Maxwell?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Let's start us off, Sam.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Anthony Gonzalez is back, Sam.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And who's that?
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: You're probably better knowing better as M83.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there we go.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: That's good, that's got him tickled.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Um, he's gonna drop his 10th album a little later this this month, and this is the only single so far.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: It's called Blister Sunrise.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, obviously with Hurry Up We're Dreaming, he nailed the cinematic sound.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: I think that he kind of really played around with it a lot in his most recent album, Fantasy.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: But think big soaring, big synths.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: This is gonna make one hell of a late night crash out drive song.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Hit me.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Wall of noise.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Not fucking around, is he?
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Not wall of sound, which is not our podcast.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Shout out, Browning.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: The king.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: The king.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Maxwell, it's been sad and sexy for me this week.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Sad and sexy summer, Sam.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Sad and sexy summer.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: That's sick.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, bit of sad, bit of sexy, a bit of everything in between.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: But the first song I'm gonna bring, ah, I've got a forearm cramp.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: I told you, a lot of cramp at home.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: I don't use my left hand.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Irrelevant.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Some stranger on the turb.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: This song is called Green Room.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: It's by Holy Water, who I've brought to the show before.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Holy water without the E on the end.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: What?
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: There's no E at the end of water or holy.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: W-A-T-R.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: So not at the end.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: It's not W-A-T-E-R-E.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: At 80%, cut off the E.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: That's probably the better one to do.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Uh it's called Green Room.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: It's sort of similar to like Satchy 6 in like sexy heavy.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Sexy sad, as you said before.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Sexy sad.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: So I'm just gonna give you a little bit of a taste.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Please.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Let me get a little look at that, Sam.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Look at that, I don't know.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Little look at that.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Let me give you the Do you just let me stop?
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: It's got a certain thickness that I admire, Sam.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: And the song does too.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: This is so bad.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: We're on one early.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: We're on one early.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Apologies, listeners.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's Gerthy in all the right ways.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Sonically.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Last year we chatted with Wafia at Big Sound and she talked about how she was recording new music and playing with a lot of uh different sounds that we might not have really heard about.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: This new song is from uh her, obviously.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Uh it's pretty baller, it's a pretty different sound.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: It's called Girl Is a Gun.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Think kind of like Charlie XCX rock music meets the artist Bournes.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: No idea.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Great, don't worry about it.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Born Supremacy, Born Identity.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Big, like chunky kind of pop, a little bit.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna say rocky, like power pop kind of thing.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Um, and obviously wafia is really like distinctive, awesome vocal lines on top.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: So yeah, this is Girl is a gun by Wafia.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: My wafia.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Edging.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: That's a nightmare to try and I'm just gonna I'm just gonna edge you with that one.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: That was a nightmare to try and keep up with time-wise.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: If you I suppose if you have coming on cold, you're like, ooh.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: What's going on?
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Was it 3-4?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: No, no, it was four four.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: It's just doing a lot of like it was like it was slightly swung.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: It was like da da da da da da da da.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, had that probably like 12-8 kind of thing going on.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, one of my favorite fractions.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Spirit Box dropped a new song called Morning, as in I'm in morning.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, not like good morning.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: No, it's Spirit Box, of course it's true.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: But this song has copped a bit of slack unfairly, I feel, because they've tuned up.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Bit of slack?
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: A bit of flack.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, flack.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, cool.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Just checking.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: No.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: It's copped a loose rope.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Just give me some slack, man.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: We're catching so much slack.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Oh man, the slack cannons, the fly the planes are flying over.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: KMS.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Um, it's in drop C, which is crazy for Spirit Box.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: But it's a bit of an emo banger, bit of a ballad vibe.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Bit slower, not as heavy as you'd hear spirit box before.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: So naturally, I really liked it.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Let's do it.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Let's go spirit boxing.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Not bad.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Not bad.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Good size.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: And obviously, uh playing good things festival, they're not playing sideshows.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Spoiler alert.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: But it's a forward sell.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: We've got the sideshows.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Well, so do you now, but we'll talk about them anyway.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Everyone has them.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: You get a sideshow.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Spirit Box doesn't get a sideshow.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Needle in Biscuit.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Sam, my last song.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Speaking of good sound, good sound, good sound, good things, big sound, good things, different things, and I'm talking about good things.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: How good's autism?
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Mate, not great.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: My vaccine schedule though, up to date.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Uh speaking of good things, Sam.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: House of Protection on that lineup.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And I they're a band that I didn't know much about before.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: And I thought, you know what?
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start looking ahead at the good things lineup, see what I need to know.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: And I'll be honest, I'm becoming quite a fan.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: So they're kind of like a bit rock, a bit metal, a bit electronic.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Um, but like electronic in like a almost like a party kind of electronic way.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: This song is called Fire.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Um, to me, this feels like the meeting place of Pendulum, the bloody beatroots, and like early nothing but thieves.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: So make of that what you will.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Have a listen.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Fire by House of Protection, LFJ.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: You fucked you lied! What the fuck do you mean?
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: It's a bit rage against the machine, too.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: A little bit, yeah.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Like that.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna bring another divisive band.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Well, not another one, they are a divisive band to Metal fans, and that is President.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Ah, yes.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: So they dropped uh, well, for those that don't know, everyone knows President, the masked band.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Busted.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: I mean President.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Busted.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: This nut.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: It was the gap.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: It was the gap between the setup and the payoff.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: I thought you'd like that.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: Let's get back to President.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Uh Blood of Your Empire is a new album, and people.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: People love or hate President, there's no in between.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: But they have a song called This Will Divide Us, and it is divisive.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: It is literally.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: It's synthy, it's not at all heavy, it's quite uh it's quite sad.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: It's not even melancholy, it's just sad.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Um, and it's just very, very pretty.
- 12:54unknown: Let's go.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: What?
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: I don't dislike it.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: I just I don't I didn't I really didn't expect it, that's for sure.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: No, I think President surprised people a lot because their songs are different.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: And yeah, you you come in thinking one thing and then they hit you with another and you don't know how to feel about it.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Hit us with the trap beat mumble rap.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: It feels like 2015.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a little bit.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: And he's intentionally like taking half-step notes vocally, and it like it throws you a little bit.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: TBD.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: I'll come back to you on that one.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: I'll take those questions on notice.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: As I said at the top of the, we did some uh we did the live show each this weekend.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: I think we should dive in, get through it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Electric Cowboy.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: I saw them at the River Stage on Saturday night.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: And if ADHD was a live set, it was the Electric Cowboy set.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Um missed cold rain, sadly.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Lost track of time, to be perfectly honest.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Gets in the big jobs.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: But I checked out Ice Dine Kills, not a band that I've been a fan of for the entirety of my life.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: It's been a little while.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Still not a fan, but incredibly heavy, incredibly tight.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: And from a live perspective, their Halloween and horror I guess, shtick.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Was kind of cool.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Very theatrical.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Very theatrical.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Always something going on on stage.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: They had Art the Clown, they had Ghost Face from Scream, they had others that I didn't recognise because I don't like being intentionally scared.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: What's the fucking point of watching?
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I just don't like horror.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Sounds like a little whippet, he's always scared.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: He walks around me like oh no.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: The light turned red.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Jump my own shadow.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Someone told me my apartment's haunted.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Your apartment's like four years old.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but someone told me they've seen a ghost in my apartment.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: And I haven't been able to sleep properly since.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: They're like, I I I felt it kind of in the the back of your apartment where your kitchen is.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: I was like, but I cook eggs in there.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: It was um enough to I have a very long hallway, so walking from the kitchen to Bragg.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: It's just everything is off the hallway.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: The hallway is my apartment.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: You've got you've got a hallway with stuff off it.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: I have a hallway with a bunch of right turns.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: But walking down that hallway knowing the ghost is behind me, or walk the other way.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Walk backwards.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Walk backwards, yeah.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Then his friend is from the other side.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: They don't have wall boundaries like we do.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: But anyway, um, electric callboy, yeah.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: It was Iceland kills, surprisingly good.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Went into Electric Cowboy and they just had a bit of everything.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: They opened up um with a few hits.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: They played hyper hyper really early.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Great song.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: They're just their commitment to like costume changes, keeping the set fresh.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: They went from heavy into like Euro dance.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: They had a full like hard style breakdown section where they were covering all the small things, let the body sit the floor.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Then they went into like really heavy stuff from their new album, which you can hear about soon with our interview with Nico and Kevin.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: About Tansnade.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Tunsnide and Max speaking very, very good.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Very sorry, I went New Zealand.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Speaking very good English.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Max spoke very good German, but not so much the English side.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: English bit carded.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Um but then they went into the heavy stuff and then they came out dressed as like a boy band.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: They covered I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: And then uh Every Time We Touched, Cascader tune, and then they came out and played all their bangers like we got the moves, rata tata.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Like it was so fun.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Hell yeah.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Our poor photographer, Liam.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: I was standing next to him every song.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: I was like, What'd you think of that?
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Uh you don't know what to expect with the next song.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: And his poor face was just a man who self-describes not very fun, which is quite funny because I think he's quite fun.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: But he just he's like, I'm not, I'm not really a fun guy.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: It's like Liam, brother.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Let's have a chat, eh?
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: We love you, Liam.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: And I think he had fun overall.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: You can't ask for much more than that.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: We broke we broke him out.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: We broke him in.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Uh Sam.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: On the other hand, I went to Bugs, uh, their show, uh, their lap one of their last two shows.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I went to the Thursday night show.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Obviously, extremely sad and heavy the circumstances of the show, but Bugs put on one hell of a performance.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Um, before they came on, uh, they they did have a couple of supports, but I only made it there in time to see Sam Cromack from Ballpark Music.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: He was joined by Jen, also from Ballpark Music, and her partner, who was on the drums.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: They just basically played covers.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: They said, like, we just talked to people who were playing tonight and asked them what songs I wanted to cover.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: So there's a couple of ballpark music tracks, a couple of like, you know, classic Brizzy numbers.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: They closed with a rendition of Freak by Silver Chair.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Good fun.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Then Bugs came on.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: They were dressed in the suits that they bought for Jordan's recent wedding, which is really lovely.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, nice.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: And then they just played a hell of a set, like some new tracks, some stuff in the new album, some classics.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: They closed out with their like a version cover of Charlie by Maul Rat.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Um, it was awesome, it was wholesome.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: It felt like it was honoring Jordan without making it feel like a really heavy, sad, sour send-off kind of thing.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Um, just an incredible show.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Shout out to a friend of the show, Danica, who came and said hello, uh, had a chat for the uh for the time.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: She's over here all the way from Perth.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Um, she loves the band, so she she came over for both shows.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, just a just a fucking a good time, but sad surrounds, you know, the context was sad.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: And if you don't know about the context, you can learn more next week when we chat to all of Bugs on the podcast.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: The forward sells great this week, Sam.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: Very forward and very newsreader.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: It is very newsreader.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, we've got plenty of new tours that have just been announced this last week, so let's go through some of them.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Do you want to kick us off?
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: You should never say never because the fray said it better.
- 19:32unknown: That was really good.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: It wasn't that good.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: It was the rhyme.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Uh yes, the fray, Sam.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: They've announced the summer of a light tour in 2027 coming to Melbourne, Wollongong, the big hitters, Sydney, and Auckland, brew.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, and then following up with festival shows.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: With festival shows, so they're playing Torquay, Perth, Lake Macquarie, and Sandstone Point.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: But they're coming with different bands.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: So they're bringing Dashboard Confessional and Rachel Fahim to Summer of Light.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: And then on the festival run, they're bringing Bastille.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Hell yeah.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: I'd go for Bastille.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Bastille, Dashboard Confessional, again, Killing Heidi and Little Birdie.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Who is Bertie's little sister?
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Um, I'll be honest, Bastille, way underrated band.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Pompeii.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, they've got they've got multiple bangers.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Like Pompeii, great song, don't be wrong.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: But I think one of those bands that live would be amazing.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: They'd be forking, amazing.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: But they're not the only bands, Maxwell.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Mate, uh, Fat Boy Slim has just announced a tour as well.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Going to Esplanade Park in Frio, uh, doing three nights of the carriage works in Sydney, South Bank here in Brizzy, and then two nights of the underpass in Melbourne between the 3rd and the 13th of March.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: Last time I saw Fat Boy Slim was at the River Sage.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: It was an incredible show.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: It's exactly what you want from Fat Boy Slim.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: There's enough Fat Boy Slim hits that you're like, fuck yeah.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: He mixes in just hits from all throughout.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Like he'll he'll mix in like a fully modern, trappy like dance track, and then he'll throw it back to some soul number from like whenever.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: And the way that he just DJs those sets is so good.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: The vibes are so high.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Do yourself a favor, people.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: It is such a good show.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: The man has said it himself.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: This is that's not a question, it's an order.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Well, the other one, Maxwell, uh, I might be jumping in here, but Empire of the Sun announced a big tour as well.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Ask that god afterlife tour, hitting Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth from Feb uh 19th to March 6th.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: That'll be large.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: That will be large.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: I'm glad that they've done it in that that order.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Whoa.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: Whoa.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Three.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Whoa.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: Four.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: You need to stop before you hurt yourself or somebody you love.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Is that a few?
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: If I were some, I would say minimum five or six bangers.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say six or seven, but then I pulled out at the end.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And Sam, uh, a free one to wrap it up.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: We love that.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: Love some free shows.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: Valley Fiesta is back in October, the long weekend up here in Brizzy, just down on the street out.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: There, um, absolutely stacked because it is a free festival.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: You're looking at uh Baker Boy, Radium Doll, Sleeper Zoid, Becker Hatch, Selve, the Gnomes, Full Moon, Full Flower Moon Band, and Teardrive.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: I got so confused, and I was like, What lineup are you looking at?
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at the 2025 one.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Now that's I'm pretty sure it's hockey dad, psycho.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Not quite.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: No, that was last year.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: That was last year.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: They've also got a separate 18 plus stage at the bright side with people like Ghost Mutt, uh, Bad Posture, Cody, Positive Spin, and a heap more.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Like, we haven't even gone probably through half the lineup there on both stages.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: So I would say do yourself a favor.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: It's free.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: You have nothing to lose.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: So good.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Get down to the uh to the value and watch all that unfold.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Should we get to the big one though, Maxwell?
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: Because good things festival sideshows have dropped.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Shit, someone should pick them up.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: From the airport, Sam.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: No, just leave it dead.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: All right, do you want to run the first few?
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: Let's do it.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: So if you're in Brisbane, tough tits.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Um there's not nothing.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Adelaide got more than you.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but Adelaide doesn't get a tour, like the festival.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but yeah, fair.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: All American rejects playing Melbourne, Millencolin playing Melbourne and Brisbane.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Bill Murray, yeah, heading across the Dutch.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Unz only.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: Unz only.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: So he is an exclusive to good things, technically.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Yep, yep.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: And then playing Wellington and Auckland, then you got Ministry, farewell in Australia, playing Sydney and Adelaide.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Fair.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Um, the one I'm excited for, Max.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I thought this would be so far off your alley.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: Then I'm gonna handball it over.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: So one of the only ones Brisbane do get is fucking enormous.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: I'm talking POD with Ocean Grove, hitting Brisbane, Adelaide, and Melbourne.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: And as far as 90s new metal goes, Ocean Grove just need to play Rhapsody tapes in full.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna happen.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: No, it won't.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Just Thunderdome.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: That's all I need.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: Beers.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fair play.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: Uh from there, Devil West Prada and Future Palace are playing Adelaide Brisbane.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: All them witches are playing Adelaide Melbourne.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: Cami Keo and Lolo are playing Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Home team, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: House of Protection, new friends of the shows.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Brisbane and Melbourne.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Is this Ivry or I V R I?
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: I need to get a bit more across that.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: I'm playing Melbourne only.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Black Queen and Fever Daydream playing uh Perth and Melbourne.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Locked Shut Lock Locked Shut.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Sorry, my my mouth just shut the fuck up.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Locked Shut is playing Adelaide Melbourne and Sydney and Viennova are closing it out with a Sydney Melbourne run.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: Plenty to get to.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Particularly if you're in Sydney and Melbourne.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: If you're one of those people that complains about good things festival ticket prices, try and go to all the sideshows.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Singularly.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: Pay them all collectively.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: And then look at the price and then go, oh, good things actually isn't too bad a ticket cost.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Um, considering it let's talk Brisbane.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Bill Murray, All American Rejects.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: I'd say three or four of these bands could play something like the River Stage.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Minimum price for the River Stage is 150 bucks.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, yeah, sometimes you get like an eight, you might get lucky with an 80 or something like that.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Rare.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Rare, but it's possible.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: About 100 bucks.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's call it 100.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: So even if you saw two of them, it's pretty much the cost of things tickets.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Um, but anyway.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Throwing a POD and an ocean grove, Sam.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to spend like$60 on that ticket.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: No, I'm genuinely so excited for POD.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: I was listening to them the other day.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: I was like, fuck, this is gonna be so sick.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: I think I was listening to Going In What's this on called?
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Going in a roll.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: I can sing it.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: Going in blind, not dry.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: Spit on it first, yeah.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: Sam.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: What?
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: This is your part.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: We're getting to the suitcase.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Zip zip.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Which one did you want to start with?
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: You tell me.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: It's your suitcase.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: Well, we've got two.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Should you pack this today, sir?
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Can you just come with us and uh it was Miss Corby?
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: Just into the inspection room if you don't want.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Only if you put your gloves on.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: Should I bend and cough?
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: Anyway, actually, I'm gonna start with the one for you, Maxwell.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Pomboir?
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: So we've got two.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get to bands that deserve more flowers, part two, after the success of it last week.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: But to start out, I'm gonna put it to you, Kingpin.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: Don't that at all?
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: I didn't think you would.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: Maxwell, a desert island would you rather?
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: Gonna start out with a couple of your favourites.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'll start.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: And then we'll get progressively.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: We'll get progressively closer to water or food.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: We'll get progressively worse or harder to choose from.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Sorry, to kind of clarify the rules.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Is this um it's desert island discs.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: I get to keep I'm bringing the music with me.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: It's not like the band.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: You have to listen to this band for the entirety of your cool.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Your life.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, cool, cool, cool.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Green Day or Blink 182?
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Green Day.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Big call.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: I think I obviously do love Blink.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: I think there's more depth in the Green Day discography though.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: Five sauce or the Wombards?
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: Uh I'll go the Wombards.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Ethylcane or cirrhos?
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: This is if it's getting bad on the island and I need a way out.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Uh ethyl cane.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Bit more ambience.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Bit more um yeah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: I could make a rope out of flax, I guess.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Breaking Benjamin or MGK.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Ah, breaking Benjamin, absolutely.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Good choice.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: I thought for a second you were gonna go the other way just to spite me.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: I was like, don't.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: My laptop will be broken.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Skrillex or Fred again?
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna Skrillex.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Bit less repetitive.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Well, I just think I don't think I'd want ambient too much on the uh on the island.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Cutting more shapes in a body lights get demo.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: True.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: And the last one, Maxwell.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: And this is really a Sophie's choice.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: This is the real stumper.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: This is the big one for you.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: Mate, call me in Healy.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: He's got me on the stumps here.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: Nickelback.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Or Jojo Siwa.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Can I take option three and walk into the ocean with rocks in my pocket?
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Uh Jojo Siwa, Sam.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: That's fucked.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Dream guest on my podcast.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Dream guest on my podcast?
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: I'll give it to Nickelback.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Just that's that's diabolical from you.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: That was diabolical, Sam.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: That was diabolical.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Now you mentioned bands who deserve more flowers.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming number one, the killers.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: They already have a front man who's all flowers.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: Uh Marley Saris, number two, she can buy herself flowers, Sam.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: How'd you know?
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: Number three, Vlossom.
