- 1:33So guys, welcome back the importance of routine for
- 1:35autism. A lot of people will always ask
- 1:37about this. Now autism is a neurological
- 1:41condition as we all know, and it has certain characteristics that
- 1:44come with it. Now one of the main kind of
- 1:46traits of characteristics of autism is repetitive behaviour
- 1:49or a tendency to to have affinity for routine.
- 1:54Why? It's a really big question and
- 1:56I'm going to answer it right now just after I tell you if you
- 1:59want to download my free autism Wi-Fi PDF book, you can do at
- 2:02autismhacks.net right now. It's completely free.
- 2:05Link is down below. So autism and routines like this
- 2:08is the thing about routine, OK? When you are a routine, that's
- 2:11something that you do passively and you know that you're going
- 2:14to do the same thing every day. So it could be getting up,
- 2:16having conflicts, sitting on your sofa and watching SpongeBob
- 2:19SquarePants until 11 AM and then you go out and do a workout,
- 2:22right? If you did that every single
- 2:23day, that is your routine. Now, the reason autistic people
- 2:25gravitate towards us on why it's so important for artistic people
- 2:28to have these routines is because autism comes with an
- 2:31inability to regulate emotions around changes or surprise kind
- 2:35of impromptu events. So say you have a sudden change
- 2:39in plans. This could throw an autistic
- 2:40person off for the rest of the day.
- 2:42However, if you knew what was going to happen, if you could
- 2:44predict if you have predictability in your day, you
- 2:46can relax in that. So routine offers
- 2:49predictability. Autistic people love
- 2:51predictability and love to have that predictability along a, a
- 2:54longer period of time over a space of, you know, their entire
- 2:58life. If they could, if they could
- 3:00predict the routine for everything, they would.
- 3:02You'll see all sorts of people over plan for things because
- 3:04they want to predict the routine.
- 3:05They want to predict what's going to happen next.
- 3:07And by predicting what happens next, you have calmness, you
- 3:10have the ability to relax into something, which is very
- 3:13important. So routine for an uncertain
- 3:15person is kind of like a coolly comfy blanket of comfortable, I
- 3:19know what's going to happen next.
- 3:20This is why it's important and it should never be made fun of.
- 3:23It should never be something that's disqualified.
- 3:24It should be something that is. Validated and and accepted
- 3:28because that's what I see people enjoy in life.
- 3:31Yes, we have to deviate from those plans every now and then,
- 3:33which can become essentially stressful for autistic
- 3:35individuals, but I think the importance of routine is healthy
- 3:38and it's good for autism. If you have anything to add, pop
- 3:40in a comment. I read every single one.
