- 0:10Speaker 1: track listing for Snoop and Doctor Dre's follow up to
- 0:14Speaker 1: Doggie Style Missionary has just been released, and do we
- 0:21Speaker 1: need numerous posthumous albums from deceased artists? I promise respectfully,

- 1:35Speaker 1: Whether you are listening on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or
- 1:40Speaker 1: any of the audio podcasts and platforms where hip Hop
- 1:43Speaker 1: Now podcast has been available for a very long time,
- 1:47Speaker 1: or you're watching on the YouTube channel that has in
- 1:51Speaker 1: some ways rejuvenated the podcast over the years. Patreon supporters
- 1:57Speaker 1: a long time ago say hey, man, you should do
- 1:59Speaker 1: a video pipe.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I guess we want to see you man. Okay, Well here,
- 2:02Speaker 2: Ryan Man. I've been here since hip Hop Is turned fifty.
- 2:06Speaker 1: We were on the road to five hundred subscribers, and
- 2:10Speaker 1: in recent weeks we hit the five hundred subscribers. So
- 2:13Speaker 1: appreciate everybody who supported, everybody who subscribed, Welcome to everybody
- 2:18Speaker 1: who is new here as a part of this channel.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's not just shorts, you know what I'm saying. It's
- 2:23Speaker 1: not just you know, little things that do here.
- 2:25Speaker 2: In ay.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I got some really really really dope things coming up,
- 2:30Speaker 1: including a new episode of that Time in hip Hop's
- 2:33Speaker 1: and stay tuned for that really soon, like really really soon.
- 2:38Speaker 1: But hitting five hundred subscribers made it so that the
- 2:43Speaker 1: podcast is visible when you're searching right, it's not difficult
- 2:47Speaker 1: to find. It kind of pops up really quick, or
- 2:50Speaker 1: if you watch a lot of hip hop content, but
- 2:53Speaker 1: you know, podcasts whatever it may be.
- 2:56Speaker 2: You know, they may suggest my podcast too. You see,
- 2:59Speaker 2: when I was BELO five hundred, I didn't really get that.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Now I'm getting that, and thus more people are finding
- 3:04Speaker 1: the podcast, which is dope, but it's the road to
- 3:09Speaker 1: one thousand, and I gotta say, maybe two three weeks
- 3:14Speaker 1: ago we hit five hundred. I'm like, man, we had
- 3:16Speaker 1: five twenty is great. Man, we had six fifty now.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So just like that, you see how quickly a channel
- 3:26Speaker 1: can grow. Let's keep it going. You know, if you're
- 3:29Speaker 1: pulling up for the first time and you like it,
- 3:32Speaker 1: but you're really not committed to subscribing yet, I get it.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But if you know that people who will rock with it,
- 3:37Speaker 2: please by all.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Means sharing on all the platforms you know where hip
- 3:42Speaker 1: hop heads congregate and say, yo, check out this topic.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I was thinking this.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'm sticking that, but definitely leave comments also in the
- 3:49Speaker 1: comments section. I read them, I respond to them. It's
- 3:53Speaker 1: all good. It's all community. Big shout out to hip
- 3:57Speaker 1: HOPDX dot com, double xl Man, you know who kind
- 4:00Speaker 1: of been in their bag, Bars dot com and a
- 4:04Speaker 1: couple of places where I'm getting some of these stories from.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Let's get right into the business stuff a man so.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Recently as in this past week. If you're from the future,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you know, to get your ass out of here. Man,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you already know, Man, album out for you because you're
- 4:20Speaker 1: from the future.
- 4:21Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:22Speaker 1: For those who don't know what I mean when I
- 4:24Speaker 1: say that, I'm talking about the fact that once I
- 4:27Speaker 1: air this podcast and it's new, right, someone down the
- 4:33Speaker 1: line will discover this very episode, and it could be
- 4:36Speaker 1: two three years from now. So that's what I mean.
- 4:39Speaker 1: They're gonna be like, Man, that album already dropped. Of
- 4:41Speaker 1: course it did. Bro I've recorded three years ago. Well
- 4:44Speaker 1: for the now, well, first of all, shout out to
- 4:46Speaker 1: you man, watch my video three years later, I'm saying,
- 4:49Speaker 1: all right, I can share so one of the most
- 4:56Speaker 1: anticipated albums from a producer a duo this year. Obviously
- 5:02Speaker 1: it was Pee Rocket, Common Right and L and Q Tip,
- 5:09Speaker 1: But there is two more, one of which I honestly
- 5:13Speaker 1: do not think is dropping this year. That's Nonsen DJ Premier.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It just doesn't seem like it's going to happen, but
- 5:20Speaker 1: who knows, Maybe it is going to happen. You still
- 5:22Speaker 1: have time before the end of the year. But one
- 5:25Speaker 1: of the ones I was excited for that. They was like,
- 5:28Speaker 1: it's dropping in July. Then it was like it's dropping
- 5:31Speaker 1: in September. Then they were like it's dropping in November.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Now they're saying it's dropping in December. And that is
- 5:37Speaker 1: Snoop Dogg and Doctor Dre's follow up to Snoop's debut.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I know he's had one hundred albums since then, but
- 5:44Speaker 1: this is a direct sequel to Doggie Style entitled Missionary.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Now that's a cute sea little title, you know. But
- 5:54Speaker 1: I was more so focused, like y'all if you've been
- 5:58Speaker 1: following Snoop's career, yeah, especially post Death Row. Every time
- 6:04Speaker 1: he has teamed up with Doctor Dre on a song
- 6:07Speaker 1: or whatever, it's been magic, right. Doctor Dre was involved.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I think a lot heavily was involved with Blue Carpet Treatment,
- 6:19Speaker 1: which a lot of people will say if we're gonna
- 6:22Speaker 1: look at Snoop's catalog, and honestly, it's not that many
- 6:28Speaker 1: bad albums at all, Like it's really light on the
- 6:32Speaker 1: bad album side. There's a lot of good albums, but
- 6:34Speaker 1: people usually rank like Doggy Style, Blue Carpet Treatment, and
- 6:39Speaker 1: then the rest because it was such a good album
- 6:42Speaker 1: and the songs that Doctor Dre did with him was crazy.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I remember when Snoop went to No Limit and I
- 6:49Speaker 1: saw that first album cover and I heard some of
- 6:51Speaker 1: the music and I was like, nah, Snoop doesn't sound
- 6:53Speaker 1: good over these many fresh beats. Dot I die master
- 6:57Speaker 1: p being the guy he is, and maybe even Snoop
- 6:59Speaker 1: was saying something like, yo, let's go get Dre. And
- 7:03Speaker 1: they got Dre on a couple of tracks, especially on
- 7:07Speaker 1: his last album on No let Me called the Last Male.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And again it was just like man Snoop and Doctor Dre. Man,
- 7:14Speaker 1: It's like Snoop's working with Dre is just he's just
- 7:18Speaker 1: back to who you know from the original joint. So
- 7:24Speaker 1: this album is dropping in December. I'm trying to see
- 7:29Speaker 1: if I could locate the Okay, December thirteenth, so y'all
- 7:32Speaker 1: got some time. And as a new single which dropped
- 7:37Speaker 1: today which I did not hear. It's called gorgeous, I think,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and I will say this, let me just confirm that
- 7:47Speaker 1: that's the actual title.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Yeah, gorgeous.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Now, I haven't listened yet because I have a thing
- 7:55Speaker 1: about listening to too many singles in advance, and some
- 8:00Speaker 1: times I don't like him, like the songs. But then
- 8:03Speaker 1: when the album drops and I hear a song within
- 8:05Speaker 1: the context of the album, it's like, no, I actually
- 8:09Speaker 1: do kind of like it, you know. So it's up
- 8:13Speaker 1: and are whether I'll listen to that record. But they
- 8:15Speaker 1: released the track listen, and I will say this, Well,
- 8:18Speaker 1: let's just go over the names and then I'll say
- 8:20Speaker 1: what I think. So the track listen for Snooping Doctor
- 8:24Speaker 1: Dre's Missionary fifteen songs right features include Bja to Chicago
- 8:32Speaker 1: Kid Doctor Dre. Obviously, what's her name is? Janey ako Eco?
- 8:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about if you like her,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Tom Petty and jelly Row. Okay, that's interesting. Sting method
- 8:48Speaker 1: Man's on here. The verses probably will be fired from meth.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Let's just skid it out the way the fifty eminem.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm trying not to just do a bunch of R
- 8:59Speaker 1: and B people because it's people will here more Doctor Dre.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 1: So for the most part, those other people involved now
- 9:10Speaker 1: just off the track listed. People are so happy to
- 9:14Speaker 1: go to Twitter to say, not just Twitter, social media
- 9:17Speaker 1: in general, to say this doesn't look good. Sting jelly Roll,
- 9:22Speaker 1: Tom Petty, I'm with you, I'm afraid I'm not gonna lie,
- 9:28Speaker 1: but I trust doctor Dre.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And he's with Snoop.
- 9:33Speaker 1: It would be a monumental failure if they work on
- 9:37Speaker 1: a full album together for the first time in a
- 9:40Speaker 1: long time and you don't get what you're expecting and
- 9:45Speaker 1: I know it's missionary, and I know it's a theme,
- 9:48Speaker 1: and maybe you're trying to, I don't know, like clean
- 9:52Speaker 1: it up a little bit because it's missionary. Don't do this.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Don't do that at all. That boy, what old is
- 10:01Speaker 1: from Mark? Don't do that at all? Why like, do
- 10:05Speaker 1: not do that? Because you this trust me. I'm a
- 10:10Speaker 1: big Star Wars fan. You can you can see some
- 10:13Speaker 1: of my props back there, got lightsabers and all that.
- 10:15Speaker 1: And as a comparison, like comparing them to Marvel, like
- 10:21Speaker 1: Marvel knows how to satisfy a cost stand fan base
- 10:25Speaker 1: by giving them things that are not just fans service,
- 10:30Speaker 1: with the fans services embedded within the things they want
- 10:33Speaker 1: to accomplish with the story.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I feel like, give us Snoop and Dre and do
- 10:40Speaker 2: things within the confines of Snoop and Dre. All of
- 10:45Speaker 2: these artists should be adapting to a sound that is
- 10:48Speaker 2: familiar to us. That is, Snoop and Dre don't experiment
- 10:54Speaker 2: with no new joints. Don't say, hey, Jelly ro Man,
- 10:56Speaker 2: why don't you rap? We don't care about him?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Okay, different audiences, stop ignoring us. We know who's I'm
- 11:05Speaker 1: not excited for a fifty Eminem and Snoop. It to me,
- 11:09Speaker 1: just them three together just never sound good, even when
- 11:11Speaker 1: it's Eminem fifty.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I know they've done a bunch of songs. This never
- 11:14Speaker 2: sounds good to me. It just so he sounds weird,
- 11:16Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying.
- 11:17Speaker 1: So that being said, also, why don't we have any
- 11:24Speaker 1: of that like death Row vibe from back in the days? Man,
- 11:28Speaker 1: where's the dog Pound? Where's rage?
- 11:31Speaker 2: Give rage?
- 11:31Speaker 1: Another verse on another album? Look for what Rage did
- 11:35Speaker 1: for the intro? Too doggy style for the follow up
- 11:41Speaker 1: to not even feature some of those former death Ro
- 11:45Speaker 1: artists who are now signed to Snoop Dogg's version of
- 11:50Speaker 1: death Row Records. Some of them, I don't know if
- 11:52Speaker 1: all of them are. Just don't disappoint Man, you've been
- 11:56Speaker 1: pushing this album back month by month. I know it's
- 11:59Speaker 1: Doctor Dre's perfectionists, but I'm saying man like yo, please
- 12:03Speaker 1: don't mess this up. Please, because as far as speaking
- 12:09Speaker 1: for myself, this is a highly anticipated album for me.
- 12:13Speaker 1: This has the potential to be top five and my
- 12:16Speaker 1: top five at least right now pretty solid, So we'll see.
- 12:21Speaker 1: What do you think about the track listing for Snoop
- 12:24Speaker 1: and Doctor Dre some of the features that are there.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Let me just say a couple of titles, you know,
- 12:30Speaker 1: like for play right, there's missionaries there, obviously gorgeous hard knocks.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I get the feeling that joints probably traditional Dra and Snoop.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Excuse me, out of the blue, last dance with Mary Jane. Now,
- 12:45Speaker 1: if that's a weed song, and that's a song with
- 12:47Speaker 1: Tom Petty and Jelly Ro, if it comes out to
- 12:50Speaker 1: be something really dope, then oo cares who's featured. Pressure
- 12:54Speaker 1: another part of me with Sting? Please do not have
- 12:57Speaker 1: Sting is cool, but not have him singing what I
- 13:01Speaker 1: think you're doing. I hope Michael Jackson has another part
- 13:05Speaker 1: of it. Don't don't do that, okay, And I'm putting
- 13:09Speaker 1: a lot of rules on Doctor Drae Snoop, but I'm
- 13:11Speaker 1: saying guns in smoke that's fifty cent eminem But who
- 13:14Speaker 1: knows what that's going to sound like a sticky situation
- 13:18Speaker 1: now or never, gangst the polls, the negotiator. So I'm
- 13:23Speaker 1: kind of again, I feel like I keep using this phrase.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I'm kind of cautiously optimistic. I'm gonna just say it again.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I'm a fan, not that fan, but I'm a fan.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Tyler the Creator just released a brand new album entitled
- 13:44Speaker 1: Chroma Copia. I believe that's the name, right, Chroma Copia.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Let's make sure we get it right. Fourteen songs coming
- 13:54Speaker 1: in just under an hour, around fifty three minutes. A
- 13:58Speaker 1: couple of the features include Doshi, Sandagold Schoolboy, Q Daniel, Sesar,
- 14:08Speaker 1: Caesar Damn. I'm giving them all consecration, then Glowrilla, Sexy Red,
- 14:13Speaker 1: Lil Wayne, Teezo.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Touchdown walking around like Tizo.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Is that what they That's what Kendrick was talking about.
- 14:23Speaker 2: But for the most part, y'all know what it is.
- 14:27Speaker 1: When it comes to this podcast and reviews and reactions
- 14:32Speaker 1: to albums, I give the three listen joint. This is
- 14:35Speaker 1: for the new people, so people who know just chill,
- 14:38Speaker 1: but I give it three listens, right. First listen is
- 14:41Speaker 1: my impression. Second listen is kind of to drill down,
- 14:44Speaker 1: listen to the lyrics, absorbed the concept, really analyze the beats,
- 14:49Speaker 1: and the third listen I give it is to confirm
- 14:53Speaker 1: what I think about the album.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Now.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Sometimes when it's a bad album that my rule is
- 15:01Speaker 1: like a courtesy, like I'm just going to make sure
- 15:03Speaker 1: it's as whack as I think it is. And when
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's a good album, it's almost natural I want to
- 15:09Speaker 1: run it back after this second or third listen. So therefore,
- 15:14Speaker 1: to me, I could walk away feel like I know
- 15:17Speaker 1: the album and then I go on and listen to
- 15:19Speaker 1: it some more if I like it. But I'm not
- 15:22Speaker 1: gonna hold y'all for those who want the score right
- 15:26Speaker 1: up front, I think this is gonna be in my
- 15:30Speaker 1: top five of the year.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I think so.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I think it pushes one of the projects I had
- 15:35Speaker 1: in my top five into my best of the year,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but out of my top five. And I say that
- 15:42Speaker 1: because of a number of reasons that I'm gonna go
- 15:46Speaker 1: really quick low Kei Tyler the creator has been on
- 15:52Speaker 1: a four album run that is good to great. Talking
- 15:58Speaker 1: about the albums good to great could be great to
- 16:01Speaker 1: classic for some people that being a flower boy then
- 16:06Speaker 1: Igor then what was the last one. What was the
- 16:12Speaker 1: what the DJ Drama one? I should have I should
- 16:15Speaker 1: have had it out because I always forget the title.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Anytime somebody makes a sentence their title, I forget it.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Like if it ain't one word, two words, maybe I'll forget.
- 16:26Speaker 1: But the name of the album with DJ Drama from
- 16:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty one was called Me If You Get Lost.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Now the thing is is, this is the follow up
- 16:39Speaker 1: to that album. And for those who maybe jumped on
- 16:43Speaker 1: board with Tyler Whant, the DJ Drama album dropped because
- 16:47Speaker 1: it was really he was like really rapping. It was
- 16:50Speaker 1: really about bars and almost like boom back.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. What you have to understand
- 16:56Speaker 2: this is a similar situation to someone like a Kendrick. Right,
- 17:01Speaker 2: Kendrick gives you good kid Man City. Then it gives
- 17:04Speaker 2: you a high conceptual album like to Pimper Butterfly. Then
- 17:09Speaker 2: he turns around and gives you Damn.
- 17:10Speaker 1: That has that vibe of good kid Man City, bars,
- 17:15Speaker 1: you know, radio records, cool stuff. Then he gives you
- 17:19Speaker 1: a highly concept album like Mister Morale and the Big Steppers. Now,
- 17:23Speaker 1: obviously we are due for another Kendrick Compton type album,
- 17:27Speaker 1: not like us notwithstanding. Right, So Tyler is the same
- 17:32Speaker 1: way flower Boy is more on the rat side of things,
- 17:36Speaker 1: you know, more on the boom back side of things.
- 17:39Speaker 1: In some ways, Igor's Tyler doing more singing. And it's
- 17:44Speaker 1: a concept that it's about a love triangle and blah
- 17:46Speaker 1: blah blah. But then call me if you get loss
- 17:49Speaker 1: brings it right back to being more especially really way
- 17:53Speaker 1: more on the hip hop boom backside. Chromacopeia is conceptual,
- 18:00Speaker 1: but it's sort of a mix of the Tyler that raps,
- 18:05Speaker 1: the Tyler that sings, the Tyler that reaches for different
- 18:08Speaker 1: flows that's experimental with the beats. And one thing I
- 18:11Speaker 1: say about this album, I watched his speech after he
- 18:16Speaker 1: did the listening party in the stadium, right, and what
- 18:21Speaker 1: really got me interested, besides his track record, was the
- 18:24Speaker 1: fact that he said he was talking about his life, like, Yo,
- 18:28Speaker 1: you know, I'm in my thirties, you know, forties right
- 18:33Speaker 1: there around the corner. You know a lot of friends
- 18:36Speaker 1: get married, having families, and you know, my biggest accomplishment
- 18:42Speaker 1: you know today is that I bought another Ferrari or
- 18:44Speaker 1: something like that. Right, And he said that with this
- 18:47Speaker 1: album he realized with his previous works that he was
- 18:53Speaker 1: never really sharing his thoughts. He was always rapping from
- 18:59Speaker 1: the perspective of different people, different things, different situations, and
- 19:04Speaker 1: never really talk deeply about himself, you know, and his upbringing.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And a lot of this album, he said, is based
- 19:12Speaker 1: off of questions and conversations he would have with his mother,
- 19:17Speaker 1: who is featured on this album a lot more than
- 19:20Speaker 1: she was the last album. And with that in mind,
- 19:25Speaker 1: I went in and listened, and I have to say,
- 19:27Speaker 1: this is a great album.
- 19:29Speaker 2: It is is. This is why it would crack my
- 19:32Speaker 2: top five.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Because there's one thing to like albums, because the beats
- 19:38Speaker 1: are dope, the bars is dope. It's hip hop, right.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It's another thing to take all of those different elements beats, bars, harmony,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know, different types of tracks, different types of features,
- 19:54Speaker 1: putting them all together in different ways, different concepts. And
- 19:58Speaker 1: this album in particular of being steeped in his reality
- 20:02Speaker 1: and him sharing stories about himself, stories about his mother's,
- 20:07Speaker 1: stories about how he feels about his father, and in particular,
- 20:14Speaker 1: that song stuck with me the most, like him Oh
- 20:18Speaker 1: stood out the most to me at the point in
- 20:20Speaker 1: time I first heard it because it comes across like yo,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I don't know my father, but everybody tells me I'm
- 20:29Speaker 1: like him, but I don't know him, so therefore there's
- 20:33Speaker 1: no real attachment. But by the end, and especially when
- 20:36Speaker 1: you hear his mother talking, she's explaining how much she's
- 20:41Speaker 1: like his father, that much he looks like and walk
- 20:44Speaker 1: like him, all of that, but she says, the nature
- 20:47Speaker 1: of your relationship, which him across to me is not
- 20:51Speaker 1: really being positive, especially in the lyrics, is not your
- 20:56Speaker 1: father's fault. It's my fault. I created that separation. I
- 21:02Speaker 1: kept you away from him in a lot of regards,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and I apologize for it. And there's a lot of
- 21:07Speaker 1: moments on this album that are that serious, serious subjects
- 21:13Speaker 1: that don't come across as serious. When you hit the
- 21:16Speaker 1: beats right, that's typically when somebody makes a song like that,
- 21:19Speaker 1: it's like, go get the piano, you know, and then
- 21:22Speaker 1: you say, yo, I'm sorry, could do it like it's.
- 21:25Speaker 2: A whole mood.
- 21:26Speaker 1: But not every song for him is like that. And
- 21:30Speaker 1: I think that's what I like about this album the most.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And this is what I like about Tyler the Creator. Now,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I wasn't the biggest fan of the Goblin Dude the
- 21:39Speaker 1: best to do because there was a lot of shock value.
- 21:41Speaker 2: And you know, for me at.
- 21:43Speaker 1: My stage in my life, that didn't get me excited
- 21:47Speaker 1: as much as it did you know, way back in
- 21:49Speaker 1: the days when I wanted to see how wow the
- 21:52Speaker 1: lyric could get. That's why I was a fan of
- 21:54Speaker 1: Eminem because I was like, Eminem just says some crazy stuff.
- 21:58Speaker 1: After a while, you know, that's for the kid. I
- 22:00Speaker 1: don't really care to hear that from Eminem on anybody.
- 22:04Speaker 1: But again, when I heard flower Boy, I was like, Nah,
- 22:07Speaker 1: this dude is this dude is different. He's just not
- 22:11Speaker 1: a better rapper than I thought. He's a better artist
- 22:14Speaker 1: than I thought, which begs the question. And it's funny
- 22:19Speaker 1: because another fellow podcaster brought it up in a different way.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Joe Budden recently said that Tyler the Creator has a
- 22:30Speaker 1: better catalog than J Cole, and quite honestly, I don't
- 22:38Speaker 1: think I disagree with him.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Now.
- 22:41Speaker 1: With J Cole's catalog, it's a lot I like. I
- 22:46Speaker 1: like Born Center, obviously, I like twenty fourteen Forest Hills Drive, right,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I even like kod you know, I like the last
- 22:53Speaker 1: album like the Bench or whatever, Off the Bed. I
- 22:57Speaker 1: don't know what it was called. The one way he
- 22:59Speaker 1: was just really bad. I really like a lot of
- 23:02Speaker 1: what Ja Cole does. He probably maybe has two or
- 23:05Speaker 1: three albums that don't you know, I'm kind of like, nah,
- 23:09Speaker 1: I'll probably never go back and listen to that ever.
- 23:12Speaker 2: But Tyler the creator to have this kind of a run.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But the albums like J Cole, his albums that are
- 23:21Speaker 1: really good are just better as full albums than J
- 23:27Speaker 1: cole albums that are really good. And the difference is
- 23:30Speaker 1: is Jake Cole you can kind of see his concepts
- 23:37Speaker 1: coming from a mile away. They not to say like
- 23:39Speaker 1: they're limited, but they kind of are, or at least
- 23:43Speaker 1: to a person of my age who has experienced a lot.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So the subject matter never surprises me. But you know,
- 23:51Speaker 1: just like mentioning this song like him like on Tyler
- 23:55Speaker 1: to create his new album, just the.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Way he puts it together.
- 24:00Speaker 1: And it's not just about his lyrics, you know, it's
- 24:04Speaker 1: about his mother being on the end and revealing why
- 24:08Speaker 1: that relationship was.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Like you know what I'm saying, it's a lot. It's later.
- 24:12Speaker 1: There's a lot being done to convey the message of
- 24:16Speaker 1: this song, and I feel like J Cole typically does
- 24:20Speaker 1: that within a verse or two, but it could kind
- 24:23Speaker 1: of become, you know, I don't know, numbing in some ways,
- 24:28Speaker 1: because it becomes monotone. Even though a lot of people
- 24:31Speaker 1: didn't like kod from Ja Cole, I did and I
- 24:36Speaker 1: kind of wanted him to do more of that put
- 24:38Speaker 1: his pen to the test in that way, and I
- 24:41Speaker 1: think people scared him away from doing concept albums, which
- 24:45Speaker 1: I hate because it's.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Like why not. He's done a million of the other records.
- 24:50Speaker 1: But while I disagree, I mean, while I agree with
- 24:55Speaker 1: Joe Budden, I will say this, y'all. J Coole has
- 25:02Speaker 1: put himself in a position where being a part of
- 25:06Speaker 1: the Big three is. He was always third to me,
- 25:11Speaker 1: but now I really feel like he's third considering all
- 25:15Speaker 1: the goat talk and I'm number one, and I wish
- 25:17Speaker 1: somebody would and he did nothing, okay, and now he's
- 25:21Speaker 1: apologizing to Drake Like I, all of that kind of
- 25:25Speaker 1: soured me and it makes it difficult to listen to
- 25:27Speaker 1: some of those types of bars from him. His music
- 25:31Speaker 1: absolutely takes a hit for a lot of people, even
- 25:34Speaker 1: if they used to like it. How of the Creator
- 25:38Speaker 1: is probably number three creatively, he's probably number three now.
- 25:45Speaker 1: His style of music again, is more Kendrick and Childish
- 25:49Speaker 1: Scambino than anything, and maybe even Chance to Rapper. But
- 25:54Speaker 1: I think he's better than Chance the Rapper. He's better
- 26:00Speaker 1: then Childish Gambino in my opinion. He in this same
- 26:06Speaker 1: record says he's basically number two behind Hendrick, and I
- 26:13Speaker 1: think he is. I think Drake's still there because I'm
- 26:19Speaker 1: telling you my playlist of Drake music is just unmatched.
- 26:24Speaker 1: But I think this battle did some damage to how
- 26:28Speaker 1: we view those two, you know rappers in particular. Can
- 26:33Speaker 1: J Cole lyrically bar for bar rap Tyler of the
- 26:38Speaker 1: Creator under the Bus? I believe so, But don't sleep
- 26:42Speaker 1: on Tyler's pen either, because he's never been in a
- 26:45Speaker 1: battle like that, but he's fully capable. I just think
- 26:49Speaker 1: that his music output has now surpassed somebody like a J. Cole,
- 26:56Speaker 1: and I think with Drake, his music is just more meaningful.
- 27:03Speaker 1: And obviously this is my view of the Big three,
- 27:06Speaker 1: but I always put Kendrick at the top because I
- 27:08Speaker 1: feel like he did what the other two did, but
- 27:12Speaker 1: his music was more meaningful. There was more there to
- 27:15Speaker 1: chew on. As a fan of music in general, let
- 27:19Speaker 1: alone a hip hop fan and tell her the Creator
- 27:21Speaker 1: does something very similar. Drake has the melodies and keep
- 27:27Speaker 1: making me dance and waving my hands.
- 27:31Speaker 2: That's a solid three.
- 27:32Speaker 1: You know he number one with that because there's a
- 27:34Speaker 1: lot of other people I don't mess with who do that.
- 27:36Speaker 2: So I don't know, maybe maybe not. What do you think?
- 27:40Speaker 2: Did you hear Tyler the Creator's new album Chromophobia? Do
- 27:44Speaker 2: you not care? Do you care?
- 27:46Speaker 1: What rate do you give it? Leave your comments in
- 27:48Speaker 1: a comments section below. And lastly, so yeah, I'm not
- 27:53Speaker 1: even gonna hold you all. We're not gonna spend too
- 27:55Speaker 1: much time on this. But there is a new song
- 28:00Speaker 1: from Gangstar DJ Premier and Guru rest in Peace Guru
- 28:06Speaker 1: entitled Finishing, which is supposed to be a new single
- 28:12Speaker 1: from an upcoming Gangstar album.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Now, Premier did a.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Masterful job with the last Gangstar album with a number
- 28:23Speaker 1: of unreleased Guru versus that the way he put it together,
- 28:27Speaker 1: you would have thought him and Guru worked on this album.
- 28:32Speaker 2: It was perfect. It was the perfect send off as well.
- 28:37Speaker 1: So I was more than satisfied with that posthumous album
- 28:42Speaker 1: dropping because typically we get albums where there are a
- 28:47Speaker 1: lot of unfinished versus unfinished songs and they throw a
- 28:51Speaker 1: bunch of features on the album and none of them
- 28:55Speaker 1: sound real, and we know the person is not here anymore,
- 28:58Speaker 1: and they sound like they're not hearing them anymore, and
- 29:00Speaker 1: it just doesn't work right. This new single Finish Him
- 29:06Speaker 1: for Gangstar is not good to me. The beat is
- 29:10Speaker 1: typical of what Premier does now. I do like the
- 29:14Speaker 1: beat switch because I didn't see that. I didn't foresee
- 29:17Speaker 1: that when I heard it, but it literally sounds now.
- 29:23Speaker 1: It literally sounds like he had a verse and a
- 29:28Speaker 1: hook from Guru and he turned it into a song.
- 29:31Speaker 1: It's nothing special whatsoever. And I think maybe if I
- 29:36Speaker 1: had a different beat, I don't know, but who knows
- 29:40Speaker 1: what Guru thought about this verse in hook when he
- 29:42Speaker 1: was making it. So I am not optimistic for any
- 29:47Speaker 1: new Gangstar album. But also, as some people know, Havoc says,
- 29:52Speaker 1: Havoc and Alchemists have been working on a new Mob
- 29:55Speaker 1: Deep album, which includes a lot of unreleased product. Now
- 30:02Speaker 1: I'm not mad at it as long as they do
- 30:05Speaker 1: it in the same way that Premier put together the
- 30:09Speaker 1: first posthumous album for Gangstar. Right to me, that was perfect.
- 30:15Speaker 1: If it can sound like have and p are to
- 30:20Speaker 1: collectively working on this album, and it doesn't sound like
- 30:26Speaker 1: these are some Prodigy versus from different studios in different times,
- 30:31Speaker 1: and his younger voices on this track, his older voices
- 30:34Speaker 1: on that track. If you can't make it sound like
- 30:38Speaker 1: Prodigy was here to help with the album, don't do it.
- 30:42Speaker 2: So we'll see about that.
- 30:43Speaker 1: But then also in my email, before I even saw
- 30:46Speaker 1: a headline, I saw from a promoter send me an email,
- 30:51Speaker 1: new DMX album on the way now, DMX, when he passed,
- 30:56Speaker 1: he had already been working on an album, right, and
- 31:01Speaker 1: that album was the album that dropped after he passed.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And when I heard it, even though as far as
- 31:08Speaker 1: DMX albums go, it was cool. At least it felt
- 31:13Speaker 1: like something that DMX was working on with Swiss Beats,
- 31:18Speaker 1: and honestly, that's what I liked about it. It was like, Yo,
- 31:21Speaker 1: this sounds like what X was working on. This new
- 31:27Speaker 1: posthumous album. They're like, it's about to drop, is loaded
- 31:31Speaker 1: with features, meaning again here we go, there you know,
- 31:37Speaker 1: verse here, verse there, you know. DMX at this point
- 31:40Speaker 1: is like, that's what the survives are getting. I don't
- 31:45Speaker 1: like those albums. I didn't like Biggie's Born Again. I
- 31:48Speaker 1: appreciate the efforts, but I was just I don't like it.
- 31:52Speaker 1: I never listened to that album. Maybe I'll hit a
- 31:55Speaker 1: song or two from that album that's actually good, but
- 32:01Speaker 1: for the most part, no, no. So with that being said,
- 32:09Speaker 1: I did a show called like the best posthumous albums
- 32:15Speaker 1: in Hip Hop? Right, and believe it or not, there
- 32:18Speaker 1: are a couple, right Pop have some you know, Life
- 32:22Speaker 1: after Death was released after Biggie pass but it was
- 32:25Speaker 1: basically done right. But it's still a posthumous album if
- 32:28Speaker 1: it drops after the fact. A couple of people you
- 32:32Speaker 1: know have had those situations and sometimes it's.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Not good. Most times it's not good.
- 32:40Speaker 1: It's rare that it's a good thing, right, Like like
- 32:46Speaker 1: Dog the last Tribe album. Fife was a part of
- 32:50Speaker 1: that album, so he's on the majority of the album
- 32:53Speaker 1: in a way, they created him and cut it, created
- 32:56Speaker 1: the album together. And there may be a song or
- 32:59Speaker 1: two where he wasn't but you literally cannot tell because
- 33:04Speaker 1: of how Q Tip put it together. You know, Fife
- 33:07Speaker 1: isn't hear them all, but when you listen, you just
- 33:11Speaker 1: know that, No, Fife worked on this album. He didn't
- 33:14Speaker 1: just get started. He worked on this album. So plenty
- 33:17Speaker 1: of new verses from him. I feel like those are
- 33:24Speaker 1: the albums, those are the only albums that should be
- 33:27Speaker 1: released when you talk about possumous albums, because those are
- 33:31Speaker 1: the only ones that are good. Now, I will say this,
- 33:35Speaker 1: speaking to the Gangstar thing. If Premiere just so happened
- 33:40Speaker 1: to say, y'o, I have a few Gangstar records that
- 33:46Speaker 1: never really fit any of the albums we were dropping.
- 33:50Speaker 1: And by the time you know, we got to a
- 33:52Speaker 1: later album, some of those songs we couldn't even use
- 33:54Speaker 1: because the vibe was older compared to music that was
- 33:58Speaker 1: out at the time. But hiss like a lost tapes
- 34:02Speaker 1: of Gangstar songs throughout the years that didn't make albums,
- 34:07Speaker 1: But we still feel like they're good. Absolutely, I'll take it.
- 34:13Speaker 1: You know why, because the context is this is old.
- 34:19Speaker 1: We did this in ninety three, We did that joint
- 34:22Speaker 1: in like nine to six, and we did that joint
- 34:24Speaker 1: in nine to four. There's a story to be told there, right,
- 34:28Speaker 1: And it's not made up and it's not manufactured. It's
- 34:32Speaker 1: really just saying were opening the vaulte for some songs
- 34:36Speaker 1: you guys have never heard. We like them, but if
- 34:39Speaker 1: we put them all on one album for this reason
- 34:43Speaker 1: we think people are rock with it. I'm saying, can
- 34:47Speaker 1: we get that? So that's what I feel like with
- 34:49Speaker 1: the Mob Deep joint, Like, Yo, did y'all record any
- 34:53Speaker 1: Mob Deep records?
- 34:54Speaker 2: You know?
- 34:55Speaker 1: Are there any records that didn't make like, you know,
- 34:58Speaker 1: like mixtape, best of kind of B side things like
- 35:01Speaker 1: free Agents and stuff like that?
- 35:04Speaker 2: Was that all of them? So I would prefer.
- 35:07Speaker 1: That when you're talking about posthumous albums from rappers.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I'm not opposed to it.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I just would prefer if they do it, it's done right,
- 35:18Speaker 1: because otherwise, sometimes these albums like what this DMX album
- 35:23Speaker 1: is gonna be and kind of what this Gang Star
- 35:26Speaker 1: at least from the first single sounds like it's gonna be.
- 35:29Speaker 1: It just reminds us that these people are no longer here.
- 35:33Speaker 1: It just does is a greater feeling for the fan.
- 35:39Speaker 1: If you know Prodigy was working with Havoc on that
- 35:43Speaker 1: album and we just wanted to bring it to y'all,
- 35:48Speaker 1: then you feel like Prodigy left you one last dope album,
- 35:52Speaker 1: you know, before he left, instead of maybe Prodigy never
- 35:58Speaker 1: really wanted that Bursts out ever, he didn't like it,
- 36:02Speaker 1: but here it is on this new single, so I
- 36:06Speaker 1: don't know, we'll see you know what. I haven't heard
- 36:09Speaker 1: the full Gangstar album.
- 36:10Speaker 2: I'm I'm anticipating.
- 36:12Speaker 1: The Mob Deep album and I will not listen to
- 36:17Speaker 1: the DMX album because I can do it. So there
- 36:21Speaker 1: you have it. How do you feel about postumius albums?
