- 1:48Speaker 2: you know, weird segment that Spencer would do, We're just
- 1:51Speaker 2: gonna talk hunting and finally we're gonna try something new.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I hope it works out. It involve the folks in
- 2:00Speaker 2: the live chat, and it evolves those one of those

- 2:10Speaker 2: our brands banking new Meat Eater cookbook box set Right there?

- 2:31Speaker 2: we're doing the show live is you got to write
- 2:35Speaker 2: a comment in there in the chat and it has
- 2:39Speaker 2: to be the most convincing reason why you and you
- 2:42Speaker 2: alone should deserve to be the winner. Phil's going to
- 2:45Speaker 2: weed through those as we go. He's gonna pick out
- 2:48Speaker 2: a few of the best ones, and at the very
- 2:50Speaker 2: end of the show will vote and decide who gets
- 2:54Speaker 2: a copy of this cookbooks.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Who came up with this game? That's what I did.
- 2:58Speaker 1: You don't like it, well, I just don't really understand.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Are you expecting to be entertained by by their comment?
- 3:04Speaker 2: I want to be.
- 3:06Speaker 3: You don't want genuine heart wrenching stories about why they just.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Well, you know, something like that too. It might work,
- 3:12Speaker 2: but yeah, we just want to get people involved in
- 3:14Speaker 2: having fun.
- 3:14Speaker 1: All right, You guys better be entertaining.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm sure they already are. We probably already
- 3:22Speaker 2: have our winner already.
- 3:24Speaker 3: There was there's been a chat discourse happening here. I
- 3:27Speaker 3: mean an hour before the show even. Still, yeah, there's
- 3:29Speaker 3: people in here talking away.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I'm going to sweeten the pot too. If you make
- 3:33Speaker 2: a really strong case for why you deserve the cookbook,
- 3:37Speaker 2: you're gonna get the old Trucks calendar that's also signed
- 3:42Speaker 2: by the crew. So there you go, little little extra
- 3:46Speaker 2: something fancy. Be honest, Maggie, before we get get really going,
- 3:53Speaker 2: what have you guys been up to and what are
- 3:55Speaker 2: your plans for the November rut.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Well, I'm just really here for the report since I
- 4:00Speaker 1: leave for Wisconsin tomorrow, and uh, as long as I
- 4:04Speaker 1: can get these rut reports in, then I know what
- 4:06Speaker 1: to expect.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I think we have a Wisconsin reut report coming in,
- 4:11Speaker 2: don't we? M M, we do?
- 4:13Speaker 1: And I don't know. I don't think we're gonna play
- 4:15Speaker 1: Mark's reut report. But I got a picture this morning
- 4:17Speaker 1: from Mark and he put down a bruiser.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Is that right, little teaser, Maggie.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Uh, Admittedly I don't have deer hunting plans. I got
- 4:29Speaker 4: a freezer full of elk meat right now.
- 4:31Speaker 2: But my got your meat.
- 4:33Speaker 4: My bird dog, Bill has been real bummed when we've
- 4:37Speaker 4: been leaving every morning to go elk hunting without him.
- 4:40Speaker 4: So the gears are shifting and we're gonna go try
- 4:43Speaker 4: and shoot some birds now, So what do you saying?
- 4:46Speaker 2: Birds? What kind of birds? Uh?
- 4:48Speaker 5: Ducks around where we live.
- 4:50Speaker 4: And then we're gonna venture to the other side of
- 4:53Speaker 4: the mountain and start dabbling in some upland hunting, which
- 4:56Speaker 4: h's some some new grounds for me.
- 4:59Speaker 2: So bring that dog up here to hunt pheasants. It's
- 5:02Speaker 2: like a banner pheasant year around here.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Really, yes, I will.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And I saw it in the other day, mule deer
- 5:09Speaker 2: and antelope, and I must have seen I don't know,
- 5:15Speaker 2: a couple hundred sharp tails like they were just everywhere
- 5:18Speaker 2: man where I was. So I'll tell you where they
- 5:20Speaker 2: were if you don't tell anyone.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Else, I know how to keep my mouth shut.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Man.
- 5:28Speaker 2: On Saturday, I had I had a good lesson, I
- 5:32Speaker 2: feel like a lesson that everyone needs to get now.
- 5:36Speaker 2: And then I found I killed an antelope Saturday. Sunday
- 5:41Speaker 2: found a like for Montana, a very very nice buck,
- 5:49Speaker 2: and I wanted him really really bad. But it was
- 5:51Speaker 2: windy and it was like I had a sprint to
- 5:54Speaker 2: get into position, and I think I made the right
- 5:58Speaker 2: choice not to shoot, And I think you need a
- 6:00Speaker 2: reminder like that now. And then like I wanted that
- 6:04Speaker 2: thing bad and I was a millisecond from squeezing the
- 6:07Speaker 2: trigger and held off.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Well, tell us just because it was windy, it was.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Rushed, like I had to sprint, I was breathing hard.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It was a small window to shoot through that comminate windy.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Just wasn't right.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It wasn't right.
- 6:24Speaker 1: He wasn't big enough for that kind of a shot.
- 6:27Speaker 2: No, he was too big to make that kind of shot.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So you're saying, I'm guessing he was like a solid
- 6:34Speaker 1: one sixties maybe even a one seventy tight buck something
- 6:39Speaker 1: like that. If he was a two hundred incher, you
- 6:41Speaker 1: don't think the lad would have been flying.
- 6:44Speaker 2: No, No, I wouldn't have shot.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Because I was telling my kids last night actually at
- 6:49Speaker 1: the dinner table, that personal ethics usually tend to as
- 6:53Speaker 1: the buck gets bigger, the ethics sort of slide down down.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But I was like, I've been talking to my kids lately,
- 7:02Speaker 2: like about there's just no reason to do that shoot
- 7:05Speaker 2: and see what happens. Thing like if you want, like
- 7:09Speaker 2: you shouldn't want something that bad, like you need to
- 7:12Speaker 2: be like not that you would say I don't care
- 7:15Speaker 2: if I get that thing or not, but you need
- 7:17Speaker 2: to say, like, you know, it's okay if I don't
- 7:20Speaker 2: get that thing, and I think people need that reminder
- 7:24Speaker 2: now and then I respect anyway you look, you look
- 7:28Speaker 2: like you're doubting me.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Honestly, No, I'm not not at all. It's just I
- 7:33Speaker 1: like struggle with this, uh, the whole uh, the theory
- 7:37Speaker 1: of the conversation around it, because I know, if like
- 7:40Speaker 1: if it was like a one fifty and I was
- 7:42Speaker 1: kind of like, yeah, I don't really need that buck,
- 7:45Speaker 1: you know, I'd be like, yeah, you know, it was
- 7:47Speaker 1: too windy.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I we don't ever really need any buck.
- 7:50Speaker 1: No, I know. But when they get huge, yeah, like
- 7:54Speaker 1: it's it's like a drug. Well that's what I make
- 7:57Speaker 1: people do, stupid shit, That's what it was. Two dure.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna be like, well, if I can just get
- 8:02Speaker 1: one in him, then I can probably get two more
- 8:05Speaker 1: in him later. Okay, I'm just saying there's a different
- 8:11Speaker 1: way to think about it. I mean, I'm happy for
- 8:13Speaker 1: you that you you know, you had that experience and
- 8:15Speaker 1: you made that decision. But you know, it's such a
- 8:19Speaker 1: personal thing.
- 8:20Speaker 2: It is it is. You know, we'll see what happens.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I'm heading to Colorado, like today, two hundred inch pops out.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I might be shooting over the horizon.
- 8:32Speaker 1: That's right. You'll be like, eight hundred never tried it,
- 8:36Speaker 1: but this buck is worth it.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, moving on to the guts of the show.
- 8:45Speaker 2: As always, there are a lot of important public lands
- 8:48Speaker 2: issues going on right now. One you gotta know about
- 8:52Speaker 2: is this is the last few days of a public
- 8:54Speaker 2: comment period where you can weigh in on the plan
- 8:57Speaker 2: to there's a plan out there from the federal government
- 9:02Speaker 2: to rescind the what's called the BLM public Lands Rule,
- 9:06Speaker 2: which essentially prioritizes managing BLM lands like multi use, but
- 9:13Speaker 2: prioritizes wildlife conservation. The plan would throw that out the window.
- 9:18Speaker 2: That are rescinding the plan would throw that out the window.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So you can go to Regulations dot gov and leave
- 9:25Speaker 2: a comment supporting just leaving the public Lands Rule as is.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Go on there and do that. I think you've got
- 9:33Speaker 2: what'd you say, Maggie till November tenth?
- 9:36Speaker 5: November tenth, I'll.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Only a few more days, So go do that. The
- 9:42Speaker 2: public lands issue we're actually going to talk about today
- 9:46Speaker 2: is the Ambler Road, And if you're not familiar, the
- 9:49Speaker 2: Ambler Road is will be a two hundred and ten
- 9:53Speaker 2: mile long east to west route from the Dalton Highway,
- 9:57Speaker 2: which runs north south almost all the way through Alaska.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Isn't that right? Honest? Yes, it runs east west from
- 10:06Speaker 2: the Dalton Highway over to Ambler and it's gonna cut
- 10:09Speaker 2: directly through this like massive, pristine roadless wilderness of the
- 10:14Speaker 2: Brooks Range to uh to Ambler. The Trump administration recently
- 10:21Speaker 2: it had been it had been nixed. The Trump administration
- 10:25Speaker 2: recently reversed that approved construction of the road despite series
- 10:29Speaker 2: concerns about destructive impacts of fish and wildlife habitat, including
- 10:35Speaker 2: a major caribou migration corridor. Now there's there's proponents of this,
- 10:42Speaker 2: and there's people, and there's detractors. But what I would
- 10:45Speaker 2: say is, like, Alaska is the last place in the
- 10:48Speaker 2: United States that still has these like vast swaps of
- 10:52Speaker 2: largely pristine tracts of roadless wilderness, and like that's what
- 10:56Speaker 2: makes Alaska special, and it's the only way it's going
- 10:59Speaker 2: to stay special. Those in favor of the road are
- 11:05Speaker 2: site job creations and other economic benefits for local communities.
- 11:10Speaker 2: But you got to keep in mind that the road
- 11:13Speaker 2: is being built almost exclusively for foreign mining interests, which
- 11:17Speaker 2: are Trilogy Medals of Canada and South thirty two of Australia.
- 11:22Speaker 2: So yeah, there's going to be some local jobs that
- 11:25Speaker 2: are going to get created, but the bulk of the
- 11:28Speaker 2: financial kind of winnings are going to go to foreign
- 11:32Speaker 2: mining companies. So we're going to dig into that today.
- 11:36Speaker 2: We're going to talk to Tim Fullman from the Wilderness Society.
- 11:40Speaker 2: He's their senior ecologist. We're also going to talk to
- 11:43Speaker 2: Matt Jackson from the Wilderness Society, who's their senior manager,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and we're going to see what's going on and check
- 11:51Speaker 2: out the potential impacts with those guys.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So, guys, if I can add Redy too, if you
- 11:56Speaker 1: want to hear more from someone that's opposed to the
- 11:59Speaker 1: Ambler Road. Did a great podcast with author Seth Cantoner
- 12:03Speaker 1: probably a year ago. He wrote a book called A
- 12:07Speaker 1: Thousand Trails Home, Living with Caribou, but basically where he lives.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Uh would be greatly impacted by this road right at
- 12:15Speaker 1: the end of the road. Yeah, and his his caribou
- 12:17Speaker 1: that h that he hunts, and that the villages all
- 12:20Speaker 1: around there hunt would be impacted by this road. And
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm sure if you just searched Seth canton or meet
- 12:26Speaker 1: your podcast, you'd find the episode.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yep, you got those guys in there. Yep there. Okay,
- 12:35Speaker 2: thanks for coming, guys. We appreciate you talking to us
- 12:37Speaker 2: today and informing the audience a little more on the
- 12:40Speaker 2: Ambler Road. Matt, I want to talk to you first.
- 12:46Speaker 2: It seems like this this is a situation to at
- 12:50Speaker 2: least to me that in many ways mirrors the Pebble
- 12:52Speaker 2: Mind situation that was going on a little while ago
- 12:56Speaker 2: down in Bristol Bay. You know, it's really controversial. It
- 13:03Speaker 2: involves like really good wildlife habitat also fish habitat. So
- 13:09Speaker 2: why don't you talk about the wilderness societies number one,
- 13:13Speaker 2: what you guys do holistically, and your role in the
- 13:16Speaker 2: Ambler Road situation, and then after that, after that we'll
- 13:22Speaker 2: get in and like more of a feel for who
- 13:24Speaker 2: in Alaska is for and against. But let's hit the
- 13:27Speaker 2: big stuff first.
- 13:29Speaker 6: Yeah, thanks so much for having us on Mine's Matt.
- 13:32Speaker 6: I'm born and raised Alaskan and the Wilderness Society nationally,
- 13:38Speaker 6: we help write the Wilderness Act. We advocate for public lands,
- 13:42Speaker 6: fish and wildlife habitat, and so we're working on this
- 13:47Speaker 6: issue of the Amble Road in Alaska because of its
- 13:51Speaker 6: impact not just the federal public lands, national public lands,
- 13:55Speaker 6: but this huge swath of the Brooks Range the proposed
- 13:59Speaker 6: road wood cut through gates the Arctic National Park can
- 14:03Speaker 6: preserve also public lands right around the Dalton Highway corridor
- 14:07Speaker 6: that you mentioned, and the parallels you drop with the
- 14:11Speaker 6: Pebble Mine are really accurate. You know, what we've got
- 14:14Speaker 6: here is we're looking at the short term profits of
- 14:17Speaker 6: foreign mining companies versus the long term well being of
- 14:21Speaker 6: public lands of wildlife and most importantly the communities that
- 14:26Speaker 6: rely on them for their way life. And so that's
- 14:28Speaker 6: how the Wilderness Society started to get involved in the
- 14:30Speaker 6: Ambler Road is through listening the local communities and looking
- 14:34Speaker 6: at the impacts that it would have on those public
- 14:38Speaker 6: lands in the Brooks Range.
- 14:39Speaker 2: So it's been kind of a roller coaster because not
- 14:43Speaker 2: that long ago the road had been shut down and
- 14:47Speaker 2: then just recently it's back on again. So that's like
- 14:51Speaker 2: it's got to make your job harder, you know when
- 14:54Speaker 2: things change. So and then the same thing with Pebble
- 14:57Speaker 2: mind too, right, like it's up, it's down, and you know,
- 15:00Speaker 2: it's been a little bit of a roller coaster.
- 15:02Speaker 6: But what's been really consistent from within the state is
- 15:05Speaker 6: actually the opposition. You know, we've been through multiple public
- 15:08Speaker 6: comment periods where communities have gotten to speak up on this.
- 15:11Speaker 6: You know, eighty eight tribes across the Yukon Quay, cuk
- 15:17Speaker 6: and Obuck watersheds have opposed this project. So you know
- 15:22Speaker 6: what the FEDS are doing is a roller coaster. But
- 15:25Speaker 6: here in the state pretty level, we know what we
- 15:28Speaker 6: want and we've said no to this road a bunch
- 15:29Speaker 6: of times. So I just try to focus on that
- 15:32Speaker 6: local perspective to protect the land because that's been consistent.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I want to get into some like nitty grity stuff
- 15:40Speaker 2: for the road, like who's paying for the road?
- 15:45Speaker 6: That's a question we don't know the answer to. The
- 15:49Speaker 6: cost estimates for the road keep going up and down.
- 15:52Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:52Speaker 6: I think it's upwards of three hundred and fifty million
- 15:55Speaker 6: to build dollars to build the road is the estimate
- 15:57Speaker 6: right now, and nobody's a red who's going to pay
- 16:01Speaker 6: for it. I think one thing that's really important for
- 16:03Speaker 6: folks to know is this is not a public road.
- 16:06Speaker 6: You know, it's not a US highway. It's going to
- 16:08Speaker 6: be a private mining road for industrial scale mine trucks
- 16:13Speaker 6: calling or back and forth. When you have trucks like
- 16:16Speaker 6: that driving there, what's called fugitive dust mindtailings escape from
- 16:20Speaker 6: the trucks, and so there's kind of some rough drafts
- 16:24Speaker 6: to have it be a tool road and the mine
- 16:26Speaker 6: company will pay the toll, but nobody knows who's going
- 16:30Speaker 6: to pay to build it.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Is there any chance like American tax payers end up
- 16:34Speaker 2: on the hook for some of the costs.
- 16:37Speaker 6: We're certainly going to be on the hook to clean
- 16:40Speaker 6: up the mess afterwards. That's how it worked, but it's
- 16:43Speaker 6: not sure who's going to be on the hook to
- 16:44Speaker 6: build it.
- 16:46Speaker 2: A risk is there is there a timeline for construction
- 16:50Speaker 2: or or is it too early?
- 16:53Speaker 6: You know, some of the boosters, these foreign mining companies,
- 16:56Speaker 6: they say they want to start as soon as next spring.
- 16:59Speaker 6: You know, I think that's un realistic financially and you know,
- 17:03Speaker 6: legally for them, right, that's what they're trying to do
- 17:06Speaker 6: is start construction in the spring.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Normally, when something, you know, a road like this gets built,
- 17:13Speaker 2: there has to be all these like assessments done beforehand,
- 17:17Speaker 2: like impact stuggs and things like that. Has that work
- 17:21Speaker 2: already been done or is it going to be done or.
- 17:26Speaker 7: Well yes and no.
- 17:28Speaker 6: You mentioned roar Coaster, all of the Federal roller coaster.
- 17:33Speaker 6: All of that work was done, and in twenty twenty
- 17:36Speaker 6: four the Bureau of Land Management set in a record
- 17:39Speaker 6: of decision that based on all that work and permitting,
- 17:42Speaker 6: there's no way you can build this road legally because
- 17:44Speaker 6: it would impact wildlife, it would impact subsistence habitat or
- 17:48Speaker 6: subsistence communities, it would impact water quality, you know, all
- 17:52Speaker 6: these issues with it. And so that's why the government
- 17:54Speaker 6: said no in twenty twenty four. What the administration did
- 17:58Speaker 6: at the beginning of the Ober is by proclamation, they're
- 18:03Speaker 6: just trying to say that none of that matters and
- 18:05Speaker 6: to force the agencies to issue permits that contradict what
- 18:11Speaker 6: they decided in twenty twenty four. And so that's what
- 18:14Speaker 6: we're seeing happen right now, is that by proclamation they're
- 18:18Speaker 6: trying to say none of that science that happened in
- 18:21Speaker 6: twenty twenty four matters anymore. Just bulldoze the thing anyways.
- 18:24Speaker 6: And that's what the Wilderness Society and are more importantly
- 18:26Speaker 6: the frontline communities here in Alaska are trying to stop.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Right now.
- 18:29Speaker 2: What what are you guys working with a bunch of
- 18:34Speaker 2: other conservation groups to fight this.
- 18:37Speaker 6: We are, there's a big coalition. You know, I mentioned
- 18:41Speaker 6: those eighty eight tribes. Yeah, and so you know Tannona
- 18:46Speaker 6: Chiefs Conference is a consortium of tribes in kind of
- 18:49Speaker 6: the central interior region of Alaska, and we work with them.
- 18:54Speaker 6: National Parks Conservation Association also deserves a shout out. What
- 18:59Speaker 6: they do is in their name National Parks Conservation, and
- 19:02Speaker 6: they've been a leader on this for a while because
- 19:04Speaker 6: of the impacts to kates of the Arctic National Park.
- 19:07Speaker 6: It's definitely a team effort. But really the stars of
- 19:11Speaker 6: the show, and I tried to bring some of them
- 19:13Speaker 6: on today but they weren't able to make it are
- 19:15Speaker 6: the tribal members from the region who from the beginning
- 19:19Speaker 6: have said this is not going to work for our
- 19:21Speaker 6: way of life.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Great, I had a question, bro, where does the where
- 19:26Speaker 1: does Alaska's governor stand on this?
- 19:31Speaker 6: Our current governor has spoken in favor of the project.
- 19:35Speaker 6: You know, I don't want to speak for him, but
- 19:37Speaker 6: he tends to be pro resource extraction.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Which isn't I mean, resource extraction itself isn't necessarily bad
- 19:49Speaker 2: if it's done in the right way. But you know this,
- 19:52Speaker 2: this doesn't sound like the right way, Tim, I want
- 19:56Speaker 2: I want to move on to you. The Ambler Road,
- 20:00Speaker 2: as I mentioned earlier, is going to bisect kind of
- 20:03Speaker 2: the core range of the western Arctic caribou herd and
- 20:07Speaker 2: go right through their migration path. It's also critical habitat
- 20:12Speaker 2: for doll, sheep, moose, boreal birds, salmon, et cetera. But
- 20:17Speaker 2: if you could, let's let's start with that, that caribou herd,
- 20:22Speaker 2: because it's already, as far as I know, kind of
- 20:27Speaker 2: in a in a downturn. So just give us a
- 20:30Speaker 2: brief history of that herd and how they're doing right now,
- 20:33Speaker 2: and then Crystal ball at what could happen, you know,
- 20:37Speaker 2: if the road goes.
- 20:38Speaker 8: Through Sure, yeah, I mean, I guess zooming out even
- 20:43Speaker 8: a tiny bit more caribou and reindeer as they're called
- 20:46Speaker 8: over in Europe and Asia, all the same species across
- 20:49Speaker 8: the globe. We're seeing declines in many populations. It's true
- 20:52Speaker 8: across a lot of Canada, and it's true here in Alaska.
- 20:56Speaker 8: So when I moved here eleven and a half years ago,
- 20:58Speaker 8: there were more caribou than people in the state of Alaska,
- 21:01Speaker 8: and that isn't true anymore. And the Western Occurred is
- 21:05Speaker 8: a prime example of that. It used to be the
- 21:07Speaker 8: largest herd in the state, with nearly half a million
- 21:10Speaker 8: animals as of the early two thousands, but over the
- 21:13Speaker 8: last two decades it showed a nearly seventy percent decline
- 21:18Speaker 8: in numbers.
- 21:19Speaker 7: Now, as you mentioned.
- 21:21Speaker 8: The proposed area in which the road would go would
- 21:23Speaker 8: cut through migration and winter habitat other important areas that
- 21:27Speaker 8: are used by the herd, and the concern there is
- 21:31Speaker 8: that caribou are an animal that needs to be able
- 21:34Speaker 8: to use big, intact areas. They live in a really
- 21:37Speaker 8: variable environment. There's lots of changes from seas to season,
- 21:40Speaker 8: and caribou need to be able to be free to
- 21:42Speaker 8: roam across their habitat to access the different resources they
- 21:47Speaker 8: need at different times of the year. And yet studies
- 21:51Speaker 8: have shown that caribou also are sensitive to development, and
- 21:55Speaker 8: we see altered moved behavior at certain sensitive times of
- 21:58Speaker 8: the year, like having post caving. They displace away from
- 22:03Speaker 8: roads and activity, and so there's a concern about, at
- 22:07Speaker 8: a time when the herd already is in decline, what
- 22:10Speaker 8: the impact of adding on extra stressors might be for
- 22:14Speaker 8: the caraban.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, Can you give us some other more specific
- 22:21Speaker 2: examples of potential impacts on wildlife but also on local
- 22:26Speaker 2: subsistence communities?
- 22:29Speaker 7: Sure?
- 22:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 8: So earlier this year we published a study looking at
- 22:33Speaker 8: the winstern art occurred and looking at how they responded
- 22:36Speaker 8: to roads, and we found that it wasn't every caribou
- 22:40Speaker 8: every time, but over time, impacts on the herd accumulate,
- 22:43Speaker 8: and it's much more than you might expect just based
- 22:46Speaker 8: on the footprint of roads. And so we saw that
- 22:49Speaker 8: caribou were being affected throughout the year with altered movement.
- 22:53Speaker 8: They might delay their movements near a road, spending more
- 22:55Speaker 8: time near the road than otherwise expected. They might not
- 23:00Speaker 8: even be able to cross all they approach around then
- 23:01Speaker 8: they'd bounce back away and they can't make it past
- 23:04Speaker 8: those roads. Other kinds of things like that. And then
- 23:07Speaker 8: you mentioned the impact for the people who rely on caribou.
- 23:11Speaker 8: There are concerns about the ability to access caribou herds
- 23:16Speaker 8: to be able to carry on the traditional subsistence way
- 23:20Speaker 8: of life that people have been practicing here for thousands
- 23:23Speaker 8: and thousands of years who rely on cariboo. And so
- 23:26Speaker 8: there's real interest among groups like the Western Arctic Caribou
- 23:31Speaker 8: Herd Working Group that I'm a part of, which brings
- 23:33Speaker 8: together some sistence hunters from the range of the herd,
- 23:36Speaker 8: hunting guides and transporters, and myself representing conservationists to try
- 23:41Speaker 8: to come up with ways to encourage conservation of the
- 23:46Speaker 8: herd and its habitat so that it can stay around
- 23:49Speaker 8: to sustain future generations.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Has the Western Arctic curred? Is that is it already
- 23:54Speaker 2: in a situation where quote us for the number of
- 23:58Speaker 2: animals that are allowed to be taken, have I have already
- 24:01Speaker 2: been reduced before? Like before the road.
- 24:05Speaker 7: It was I believe it.
- 24:07Speaker 8: Was just about a year ago that because of the
- 24:09Speaker 8: ongoing decline in the herd, the bag limit, the hardest
- 24:14Speaker 8: level for residents, was dropped. They've also put in restrictions
- 24:18Speaker 8: for out of state hunters and what they're able to
- 24:20Speaker 8: access from the herd because of the decline.
- 24:23Speaker 7: And so that's exactly.
- 24:23Speaker 8: Why, you know, with all these things going on, there's
- 24:26Speaker 8: a question of does it make sense to add additional
- 24:28Speaker 8: pressures to the herd?
- 24:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys got anything?
- 24:34Speaker 4: Yeah? Isn't this also going to have a huge impact
- 24:38Speaker 4: on fish? I mean there should be like I think
- 24:41Speaker 4: in the thousands of creek crossings having to build culverts
- 24:45Speaker 4: with this road, things like Dolly Varden sheep fish being impacted,
- 24:52Speaker 4: mind tailings. I mean, it's kind of expansive how much
- 24:57Speaker 4: the impacts go.
- 25:00Speaker 8: We definitely are hearing concerns about the impacts to fish
- 25:03Speaker 8: from people out on the land and in the community's
- 25:06Speaker 8: nearest to where the road is proposed. And you know,
- 25:10Speaker 8: we have an aquatic ecologist who works with us here
- 25:12Speaker 8: at the Wilderness Society, and yeah, he's much better able
- 25:14Speaker 8: to speak to some of the details of that. But yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 8: there's concerns about what the impacts of putting in a road,
- 25:19Speaker 8: putting in the culverts, all those things might do to
- 25:22Speaker 8: fish and to fishing opportunities.
- 25:24Speaker 2: If you if you guys don't mind.
- 25:26Speaker 6: Right, it was four thousand culverts, Yeah, would be required
- 25:30Speaker 6: to build this road.
- 25:31Speaker 2: If you guys don't mind, send us his contact info
- 25:34Speaker 2: because we might want to talk to him about that more.
- 25:37Speaker 2: All right, we kind of got to wrap things up
- 25:39Speaker 2: and move on, guys, But before we go, is there
- 25:43Speaker 2: any hope of a reversal like in the courts? And
- 25:47Speaker 2: is there anything people can do to fight it right now?
- 25:51Speaker 6: There's always, especially when there's so much unity around protecting
- 25:54Speaker 6: this landscape within the state, within the communities that live there. Unfortunately,
- 25:59Speaker 6: kind of by design, there's not a lot of public engagement.
- 26:02Speaker 6: There's you know, there's not a comment period, there's not
- 26:04Speaker 6: a chance for people to speak up at this moment.
- 26:07Speaker 6: But the Wilderness Society and our friends here in Alaska.
- 26:10Speaker 6: We're working to create that opportunity to make sure we
- 26:12Speaker 6: have public comments or a chance to speak up. So
- 26:15Speaker 6: what I can tell folks right now is to just
- 26:17Speaker 6: follow the Wilderness Society on social media, sign up for
- 26:20Speaker 6: email updates, and also to defend the Brooks Range group.
- 26:25Speaker 6: As you asked earlier, if we were working with lots
- 26:27Speaker 6: of other groups in Alaska. That group of is called
- 26:30Speaker 6: Defend the Brooks Range and they're also on social media,
- 26:33Speaker 6: and you know, the Wilderness Society we work on a
- 26:36Speaker 6: bunch of things. If you follow Defend the Brooks Range,
- 26:38Speaker 6: you're going to get content on the Brooks Range, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 6: learn more about the people that live there, the kind
- 26:43Speaker 6: of wildlife that's there, and how to stay involved.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and just just look at Pebble minus as an
- 26:48Speaker 2: example like that was a big win, so hopefully we
- 26:51Speaker 2: get one here too. Well, thanks a lot, guys. I'm
- 26:55Speaker 2: sure you're busy, so we'll let you go.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Thanks guys, thank you.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Okay, you guys, got anything to say about that?
- 27:06Speaker 4: Oh?
- 27:06Speaker 1: It just it makes me sick, you know, to think that.
- 27:09Speaker 1: But you know, the whole thing is people are always like, well,
- 27:13Speaker 1: we need to we need more energy here, well than
- 27:17Speaker 1: even energy. This is sure just mindy. But you know
- 27:21Speaker 1: when they talk about doing more uh you know resource
- 27:24Speaker 1: extraction on the north side of the Brooks Range in
- 27:27Speaker 1: the uh in the in the park there. Yeah, right, yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 1: it's like most of our resources now are exported. Sure,
- 27:40Speaker 1: people don't understand that, Like we have plenty we export it.
- 27:44Speaker 1: We don't. We're not always buying oil from some other
- 27:47Speaker 1: place to to you know, make our cars go. We
- 27:51Speaker 1: have plenty of it. We don't need to pump more
- 27:54Speaker 1: out of it. Like it's a reserve for a reason.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Let's keep it there until we really need it, you know,
- 27:58Speaker 1: for when it's like dire in this.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Case, like it's foreign mining companies, like it's it's.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Crazy, well, and there's this frantic need like we have
- 28:07Speaker 4: to do this now. We need to get these industries
- 28:10Speaker 4: going now. And when there's this push to get things
- 28:12Speaker 4: done so fast, you know, environmental protections aren't taken into consideration.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Things are just they're jumping through hoops.
- 28:20Speaker 4: And it it's you know, it's really a like reversal
- 28:26Speaker 4: in time of like we've seen the damage that mines
- 28:30Speaker 4: can do, yet we're so willing to just go right
- 28:33Speaker 4: back to this cause all this environmental damage without a
- 28:35Speaker 4: second look, just for you know, make the rich richer.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no doubt there'll be a few Alaskans that
- 28:42Speaker 1: have some jobs there for a few years, you know,
- 28:45Speaker 1: and it could be twenty years of jobs. But like,
- 28:48Speaker 1: the real winners are not going to be Americans.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Nope, No, And and think about how much time they
- 28:54Speaker 4: would have to be spending cleaning up mine tailings, cleaning
- 28:58Speaker 4: up the water, cleaning up the land.
- 29:00Speaker 2: The thing is is like like you can't like never
- 29:03Speaker 2: truly clean that stuff.
- 29:04Speaker 4: No, it's there, it's it becomes part of the land.
- 29:09Speaker 4: And it's when you have a place like Alaska. It's
- 29:11Speaker 4: just such a shame that some people are so willing
- 29:16Speaker 4: to sacrifice that for the sake of the dollar.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yep, let's move on to something fun.
- 29:22Speaker 1: That's right, let's get this. Let's get this thing that
- 29:26Speaker 1: our smiles turned around.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yep, we got an in house hot tip off contest.
- 29:32Speaker 2: We're going to do so you gotta fall along and
- 29:35Speaker 2: place your vote in the chat. Make it real easy
- 29:38Speaker 2: for Phil to figure out who the winner is.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not going to start a poll here as
- 29:43Speaker 3: soon as the tip offs end.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Before we get into it. If you've got a hot
- 29:50Speaker 2: tip off that's so hot, it has to be shared
- 29:53Speaker 2: with us because we do fan hot tip offs. Also,
- 29:57Speaker 2: send it to I think it's radio live at the
- 30:01Speaker 2: meat eater dot com. I think it might just be radio.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I might be radio.
- 30:05Speaker 3: I'm a horrible engineer of the show. But maybe the
- 30:08Speaker 3: producer Jacob Pipe or.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Send it to like info at the meat Eater. Someone
- 30:12Speaker 2: will get it at.
- 30:14Speaker 5: The medeater dot com.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Yeah, send it to Jannas at the meadeater dot com.
- 30:19Speaker 2: DM it to Maggie on Instagram. Yeah, someone will get it.
- 30:22Speaker 2: But uh yeah, send us those we like. We like
- 30:24Speaker 2: doing those from the from the fans too, Phil, you
- 30:29Speaker 2: ready to see him up? Or Yeah, we've got some.
- 30:32Speaker 3: We've got video tips from Brody and Janie and then
- 30:35Speaker 3: Maggie is going to do an in house hot tip off.
- 30:39Speaker 4: I thought that's a students, so that's what I rolled with.
- 30:43Speaker 1: No, Brody said I couldn't do it.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I didn't say it couldn't.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Well, anyways, depends.
- 30:48Speaker 2: On like I couldn't have done mine that way.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, let's watch the tips. Welcome to another
- 30:55Speaker 1: hot tip off. Tell us here. Here's my hot tip.
- 31:00Speaker 1: During the year, prepare for hunting season by making.
- 31:04Speaker 9: Large amounts of things like chili, elk stew, breakfast sausage,
- 31:17Speaker 9: meat balls, cook meat.
- 31:20Speaker 1: For barbecue sandwiches from a deer neck.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Bear beeria.
- 31:27Speaker 7: Here's enough for three meals.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I want some.
- 31:32Speaker 1: More slow cooked meat, more breakfast sausage. If you do
- 31:38Speaker 1: this and every time you have dinner, you just make
- 31:40Speaker 1: a little extra and vacuum seal it, put it in
- 31:42Speaker 1: your freezer, then it's time for hunting season. You just
- 31:46Speaker 1: throw all that stuff into the cooler, go to camp,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and dinners are pretty much done. All you gotta do
- 31:51Speaker 1: is reheat it, hit the grocery store, buy tortillas, some buns,
- 31:57Speaker 1: whatever you need. Makes life super easy and you get
- 32:00Speaker 1: to continue to be living the meat eater lifestyle and
- 32:04Speaker 1: eating game while you're hunting game for next year. So
- 32:07Speaker 1: there you go. Beat that hot tip off. Maggie and
- 32:10Speaker 1: Brodie hang aggressive. Note to future Yanni from past Yanni
- 32:17Speaker 1: shoot straight this week, Okay, aim for the top of
- 32:20Speaker 1: the heart.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Hell yeah, thanks, ming at you with a hot tip
- 32:24Speaker 2: from antalyp season here in Montana. My son just got
- 32:27Speaker 2: this buck like an hour ago, and we're ready to
- 32:32Speaker 2: take the head off of it. For years and years
- 32:34Speaker 2: when I was taking the head off of buck or
- 32:36Speaker 2: a bull, I would always come in from the top,
- 32:39Speaker 2: like back behind the ears and through all that heavy
- 32:42Speaker 2: muscle and tendon that's down here. And I learned that
- 32:47Speaker 2: if you flip them over and come in from the
- 32:51Speaker 2: throat down, it's just way easier, way faster. That you
- 32:55Speaker 2: come out right where you want, where the skull meets
- 32:57Speaker 2: the spine, and slip your knife right between the skull
- 33:00Speaker 2: and the spine, and it takes like less than half
- 33:03Speaker 2: the time of coming in from the top to just
- 33:06Speaker 2: go down cut through the the esophagus there and follow
- 33:11Speaker 2: those jaw muscles that are jaw bone down right there,
- 33:16Speaker 2: and you get through that stuff and you're there like
- 33:20Speaker 2: it's right there and you'll find, oh, Kenny, execute that.
- 33:28Speaker 2: If you get get it right, you can just.
- 33:32Speaker 10: Cut kick it a little bit and you're right where
- 33:35Speaker 10: you're at and you're through just like that. Like it's
- 33:40Speaker 10: like fast, way faster than coming through all the heavy
- 33:45Speaker 10: muscle and tendon from the top.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So that's your hot tip.
- 33:50Speaker 4: You know about your hot tip, Brody, If you're getting
- 33:54Speaker 4: lymph nodes for CWD.
- 33:55Speaker 5: You've already made that first cut. You're already right there.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't do the whole like skin in the
- 34:02Speaker 2: head and all that. When I take a skull or
- 34:05Speaker 2: take a head out. No, I'll leave all that stuff on.
- 34:09Speaker 1: You do have to be careful though, cutting them that
- 34:11Speaker 1: close like that, because a lot some CWD test check
- 34:16Speaker 1: stations will be like, hey, you're a little tight. We
- 34:18Speaker 1: like to leave a little bit more neck on here.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Well, Wyoming, you just have to get the lymph nodes out.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Can you bring them in personally?
- 34:26Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, all right, Maggie, let's let's hear yours.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Oh okay, this.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Is this is kind of a lukewarm tip, but uh
- 34:35Speaker 4: it was extremely convenient this year.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Phil you got the picture up. Uh so processing my
- 34:44Speaker 5: elk this year.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Uh we just laid out butcher paper on my kitchen island,
- 34:50Speaker 4: and uh we could label all the pots and everything
- 34:53Speaker 4: because we've got like a grind pile, a jerky pile
- 34:55Speaker 4: of dog pile. So when you're shipping Miller lights, you
- 35:00Speaker 4: and you don't get them confused.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Actually that's a high life.
- 35:04Speaker 4: And uh it just made clean up really easy because
- 35:07Speaker 4: I don't have big enough cutting boards for a whole quarter,
- 35:10Speaker 4: so you could just kind of flop whole muscle groups there.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Get ready to clean it up a little more. And uh,
- 35:17Speaker 4: you know it's kind of a lame tip, but man,
- 35:20Speaker 4: it made clean up the breeze this year.
- 35:22Speaker 2: You're not cutting on the table though, right.
- 35:25Speaker 4: No, I mean I've got it's just like a walnut
- 35:27Speaker 4: butcher block, so I could if I wanted to, but
- 35:31Speaker 4: trying not to.
- 35:32Speaker 5: Yah, patina it up that much.
- 35:34Speaker 1: But I do the same thing but without the butcher paper.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, just spray and white.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Well. See that's the thing I can't really because it's
- 35:44Speaker 4: an untreated butcher block, so I don't have a way
- 35:47Speaker 4: to like really disinfect it that well.
- 35:50Speaker 5: Or it been like dish soap.
- 35:52Speaker 2: You should just like rub a bunch of mineral oil
- 35:55Speaker 2: into that one.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Well, I keep doing it, but it's like not even
- 35:58Speaker 4: a year old, so.
- 35:59Speaker 5: It does doesn't quite have like it's not quite there yet.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I don't want to seem like I'm bagging on your
- 36:05Speaker 2: hot tip off. I think it's great.
- 36:06Speaker 1: It's a good tip.
- 36:07Speaker 5: Yeah it was.
- 36:07Speaker 1: It does make clean up super easy.
- 36:09Speaker 5: It made clean up real easy.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Brody's tip is good too, he told me about it.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I forget when maybe on the youth hunt, and I've
- 36:16Speaker 1: used it on two different animals. Now you're going through
- 36:20Speaker 1: the same stuff as you would go from coming in
- 36:23Speaker 1: from the top.
- 36:23Speaker 2: It's just easier to bind.
- 36:25Speaker 1: But yeah, it's easier to find the gap that takes
- 36:28Speaker 1: you there.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Something about coming in from the top where you're just
- 36:30Speaker 2: not lined up right a lot of the.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Time, or I don't know, but I just think that, yeah,
- 36:35Speaker 1: the top, it just takes way more experience to like
- 36:38Speaker 1: hit the spot exactly right, because when I hit it
- 36:40Speaker 1: just right, I can do it that way fast too.
- 36:42Speaker 2: And it's also like the way that the joints come together,
- 36:46Speaker 2: the skull and the spine coming to if you turn
- 36:48Speaker 2: it over and it's like they're coming apart, almost like
- 36:52Speaker 2: you stretch that throat out, and it's it's, you know,
- 36:55Speaker 2: like that. It's hard to explain, all right, I pull
- 36:57Speaker 2: his live everybody.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I'll give you another thirty seconds or so and then
- 37:00Speaker 3: we'll call it.
- 37:01Speaker 4: I remember that conversation because that was when I was
- 37:04Speaker 4: up here last time for me to to roast you
- 37:06Speaker 4: guys were talking.
- 37:07Speaker 2: About that we were stick those antlers in the ground
- 37:10Speaker 2: or whatever layser just right.
- 37:13Speaker 4: I like your tip too, Yannie, because I do that
- 37:16Speaker 4: all the time, just for my sanity, not even just
- 37:18Speaker 4: for hunting, Like I love having stuff ready to roll over.
- 37:21Speaker 5: I'd like to just.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Roll that way all the time.
- 37:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah, my wife would like it too.
- 37:26Speaker 1: We use some of it throughout the year. But what
- 37:28Speaker 1: happens is the kids get overeaten something or you know,
- 37:32Speaker 1: they're like do again. And so this worked out perfectly
- 37:36Speaker 1: because you know, I had to cook for myself for
- 37:39Speaker 1: the next week and my dad and to have basically
- 37:43Speaker 1: seven or eight meals done, it's gonna make it easy.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Where'd you get that Burier recipe?
- 37:50Speaker 1: Probably New York Times. I'm guessing you're going to try that.
- 37:54Speaker 5: Have you? Have you gotten into the little freezer mold things,
- 37:58Speaker 5: a little square.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Things they do for baby food.
- 38:02Speaker 4: I don't know that they used to be like ice
- 38:04Speaker 4: cube trays, but you can freeze like stock and stuff
- 38:07Speaker 4: and like a square thing and then you just stick
- 38:09Speaker 4: them in a freezer bag.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Those are slick. That was going to be my other
- 38:13Speaker 5: hot tip option.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Now, no, where are we at with the voting?
- 38:17Speaker 3: I will let you know right now. With twenty one
- 38:20Speaker 3: percent of the vote. In third place is Maggie Hudloaws.
- 38:24Speaker 3: But we have the Maggie has a lot of supporters.
- 38:26Speaker 5: In the chat thanks chat.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Yeah, someone said that they've been doing it Maggie's way
- 38:32Speaker 3: for the last few years. Game changer, That's what he said.
- 38:36Speaker 3: But then the winner with forty four percent of the
- 38:39Speaker 3: vote is Brody Henderson.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Thank you every much to try this weekend. When you
- 38:50Speaker 2: kill a great big buck. If you're not going to
- 38:53Speaker 2: get it mounted, I'm just going to do a freedom ount. Well, Phil,
- 38:59Speaker 2: let's uh do some like questions and comments.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Sure it is.
- 39:03Speaker 3: I have I've been book flagging, book barking all of
- 39:06Speaker 3: the cookbook submissions.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but and we have.
- 39:11Speaker 3: We have a few just straight up questions, but I
- 39:13Speaker 3: kind of have to like sort sort through them.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Here, I get it. Uh.
- 39:16Speaker 3: And Andrew was in the med Eater store this morning
- 39:18Speaker 3: and saw Maggie in the wild and was starstruck. But
- 39:22Speaker 3: that just that just goes to show you that even
- 39:24Speaker 3: even our crew members go shop at the mediat store.
- 39:27Speaker 5: Fort Hi, Andrew.
- 39:31Speaker 1: I can't believe you didn't buy this one. Get this.
- 39:34Speaker 4: I almost did, and then I thought we'd be matching
- 39:36Speaker 4: if I came.
- 39:37Speaker 1: In was the luckiest hunting hat I've ever owned. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 1: I think like five or six big game animals have
- 39:44Speaker 1: fallen I've been wearing, so you like when you're going.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Hunt now, like you feel weird if you don't have
- 39:49Speaker 2: it on.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna wear it through the end of this season
- 39:52Speaker 1: and then I'll retire put it in the auction house
- 39:55Speaker 1: oddities or something. But I'm telling you, if you're having
- 39:58Speaker 1: a rough season right now, go order yourself. When he's
- 40:01Speaker 1: wired to hunt, buck ats.
- 40:03Speaker 5: As what everybody wants is a stinky hunting hat.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Nathan still Will says, with the deer, I am putting
- 40:09Speaker 3: the rib meat into the grind for burger. How much
- 40:11Speaker 3: would you worry about having the fat tallow attached to
- 40:14Speaker 3: the meat going into the grind? Will it affect the
- 40:16Speaker 3: flavor or texture?
- 40:17Speaker 2: I think it depends on the deer. Like a big
- 40:22Speaker 2: buck with a bunch of that tallow on the outside
- 40:24Speaker 2: of his chest, Yeah.
- 40:25Speaker 5: Be a little waxy.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I mean, I've gotten away from using that type of
- 40:30Speaker 2: meat in my I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it,
- 40:33Speaker 2: I am, but that rib meat is just full of gristle,
- 40:37Speaker 2: and the more gristle your burger has the shittier your
- 40:40Speaker 2: burger's going to be. I know people don't like sacrificing
- 40:44Speaker 2: like big hole muscle roasts off the ham or off
- 40:48Speaker 2: the shoulder, but like that's what I use for burger.
- 40:51Speaker 5: It makes better burger.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Like I would just save the ribs to cook.
- 40:55Speaker 1: His ribs agreed, or de bone them and then chop
- 40:59Speaker 1: them up real small and make stew or any other
- 41:03Speaker 1: slow and low preparation like you would do with the
- 41:06Speaker 1: neck or the shanks, melt that stuff. Where that stuff
- 41:09Speaker 1: that you're like worrying about, how what to deal with
- 41:12Speaker 1: deal with it, and how it's gonna be negative to
- 41:14Speaker 1: your recipe. If you slow and low those ribs, it's
- 41:19Speaker 1: gonna it's gonna add to the flavor and the consistency
- 41:23Speaker 1: in the recipe.
- 41:24Speaker 2: I mean he's specifically asking about fat and tallow. I
- 41:27Speaker 2: would get rid of as much of that as you can.
- 41:30Speaker 2: But you can't get rid of all that gristle that's
- 41:33Speaker 2: in the rib meat. You just can't.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Uh.
- 41:37Speaker 3: Great, most of everything else has been cookbook stuff. But
- 41:42Speaker 3: I'm just gonna this is a phill question that Brody loves.
- 41:45Speaker 3: To John's asking if I'm playing Battlefield six. I am not,
- 41:49Speaker 3: but alex Plocta, who's our social guy who plays trivia occasionally,
- 41:54Speaker 3: is playing red SEC and we might play together soon.
- 41:56Speaker 2: So that's fun. Oh you guys can have a little
- 41:58Speaker 2: video game play day now, John. I just rolled credits
- 42:01Speaker 2: on Hades two.
- 42:02Speaker 3: I'm in the act three of Hollow Night Silk Song
- 42:04Speaker 3: and I'm playing Ghost of Yot, which I'm kind of
- 42:06Speaker 3: bouncing off of. I'm kind of phil I've got open
- 42:08Speaker 3: world fatigue. Yeah, Brody, what.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Maybe you're not willing to share because you don't want
- 42:12Speaker 2: to get attacked online? But what's your like online video
- 42:16Speaker 2: hand video game plan? Handle?
- 42:19Speaker 3: Oh well, yeah, you don't have to.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I'm not going to share it, Okay, you gotta tell me.
- 42:24Speaker 2: I shared it.
- 42:25Speaker 3: I shared it once before on Ben O'Brien's old podcast,
- 42:29Speaker 3: and even then with with his smaller audience, I got
- 42:32Speaker 3: inundated with a bunch of requests from I'm sure find people,
- 42:36Speaker 3: but I like to have a clean free.
- 42:37Speaker 2: We should run a contest to have people guess your handle.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Oh okay, I think some people do. All right. Is
- 42:44Speaker 2: that all for now?
- 42:45Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 42:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that's all for now, but please send in some
- 42:48Speaker 3: more straight up questions for the end of the show,
- 42:50Speaker 3: because we're a little light on those.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Questions and a good reason you you need that their cookbook. Okay,
- 42:56Speaker 2: Next up, we are going to be checking in with
- 42:59Speaker 2: some around the country for some boots on the ground reports.
- 43:04Speaker 2: But before we get to them, I just want to
- 43:06Speaker 2: check in with you guys. Gianness. You got some exciting
- 43:10Speaker 2: stuff showing up on your trail cams.
- 43:12Speaker 1: I wouldn't say exciting. It's kind of what you expect.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Deer movement, lots of deer movement, more daylight movement than
- 43:20Speaker 1: a month ago. It's not like the cams all Sunner
- 43:24Speaker 1: just lit up with you know, Boon and Crockett type bucks.
- 43:29Speaker 1: And I try to remind myself and my dad especially
- 43:32Speaker 1: a lot all the time, is that, like you can't
- 43:34Speaker 1: not make hunting decisions based on cameras. And we have
- 43:38Speaker 1: a lot of them, you know, we're you know, partners
- 43:40Speaker 1: with Boultrie, so basically have as many cameras I want
- 43:43Speaker 1: to run. There's probably two dozen of them out there
- 43:45Speaker 1: right now, but still deer walk behind them, they walk
- 43:49Speaker 1: sometimes in front of them and don't get their picture taken.
- 43:53Speaker 1: You just like I like them have them for like
- 43:54Speaker 1: a general inventory. I know where there's like a bunch
- 43:59Speaker 1: of dos are hanging out right now, which that's a
- 44:00Speaker 1: good thing to know for the rut, you know, like
- 44:02Speaker 1: where they're hanging out. So yeah, that's my trail cameraport.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Maggie said, you're you're not gonna be I'm not.
- 44:10Speaker 4: But I have seen more mule deer running around. Yeah,
- 44:14Speaker 4: which is cool to see, except for you know, I
- 44:16Speaker 4: was driving up from Wyoming last night, so I was
- 44:19Speaker 4: driving pretty slow the whole way because I saw quite
- 44:21Speaker 4: a few deer running around, especially driving it.
- 44:25Speaker 2: You know, I think the way to avoid them is
- 44:27Speaker 2: drive faster.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Yeah, take a look at my truck and then maybe
- 44:32Speaker 4: you consider that.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I have one day of mule deer
- 44:37Speaker 2: hunting in this year. Just a few days ago, there
- 44:41Speaker 2: was some some small box four ki's that were like
- 44:45Speaker 2: hanging with those fought like getting their nose up near
- 44:49Speaker 2: the dose. But but it's just like that mule deer, right,
- 44:54Speaker 2: I feel lags behind the white tail rut a little bit.
- 44:59Speaker 2: I did have that big buck that was that was
- 45:01Speaker 2: checking a dough, but he was like not ruddy. He
- 45:04Speaker 2: was like, I'm gonna walk over there and see what's
- 45:06Speaker 2: going on? And then he walked away. So like I'm
- 45:08Speaker 2: hoping because I'm heading to Colorado, I'm hoping that it's
- 45:12Speaker 2: it's gonna start kicking off good. Let's check out the
- 45:17Speaker 2: actual in the field. Reports Phil.
- 45:22Speaker 11: Hey Spencer new Arth bringing you a rut report from
- 45:25Speaker 11: November three. I am in eastern Montana hunting a place
- 45:29Speaker 11: that is almost exclusively mule deer, So that's the kind
- 45:33Speaker 11: of information you're getting from me. Last night I saw
- 45:37Speaker 11: thirty to forty muley doze broke up into like ten
- 45:41Speaker 11: different groups, and not a single one of them had
- 45:43Speaker 11: a buck with them. I think if it was a
- 45:46Speaker 11: week from now, two weeks from now, that would have
- 45:48Speaker 11: been a different story. But clearly the mulis out here
- 45:52Speaker 11: are not at a stage in the rut where they
- 45:55Speaker 11: dos are getting too harassed quite yet, Otherwise I would
- 45:59Speaker 11: have seen it last night. This morning I saw a
- 46:03Speaker 11: bachelor group of three bucks together. They were leaving an
- 46:07Speaker 11: egg field headed to bad right at about shooting light,
- 46:12Speaker 11: and those three bucks seemed kind of irritated with each other.
- 46:16Speaker 2: A couple of them.
- 46:16Speaker 11: Postured, looked like they were going to lock antlers. At
- 46:18Speaker 11: one point, a different buck I saw him rubbing his
- 46:21Speaker 11: antlers thrashing around in one of those draws, and one
- 46:26Speaker 11: of those bucks I killed right at sunrise, and I'll
- 46:31Speaker 11: go show him to you in the back of my
- 46:32Speaker 11: pickup here right now.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Here he is.
- 46:35Speaker 11: I was doing that rot report from inside of my
- 46:38Speaker 11: truck because it is so damn windy out here, and
- 46:41Speaker 11: I care about our listeners. This buck was the biggest
- 46:46Speaker 11: buck in that bachelor group. And if I'd have been
- 46:51Speaker 11: out here a week later, he might have been in
- 46:53Speaker 11: a different county because he seemed like he was getting
- 46:57Speaker 11: amped up to chase some tail. All right, I will
- 47:01Speaker 11: be hosting Meat Eater Radio next week. I'll have more
- 47:04Speaker 11: on this story. Then back to you, Brody, nice buck.
- 47:09Speaker 7: Nice Tony Peterson's got your rut report right here.
- 47:12Speaker 12: As you can see, you should probably be in a
- 47:14Speaker 12: tree right now. Not a huge surprise, that is, it's
- 47:17Speaker 12: the first week of November.
- 47:18Speaker 13: Put in all fairness, he killed it four minutes into
- 47:20Speaker 13: his first sit, so he has really no idea what's
- 47:22Speaker 13: going on.
- 47:23Speaker 12: I did sit there for two extra hours.
- 47:25Speaker 13: Afterward, right, did you see rud act like after you
- 47:28Speaker 13: were done hunting, did you observe any.
- 47:31Speaker 12: I was drinking a Starbucks energy drinking, eating a protein bar,
- 47:36Speaker 12: and I did see a little buck come through cruising.
- 47:38Speaker 7: He was rotting.
- 47:39Speaker 12: This dude was looking. That dude was looking, and we
- 47:41Speaker 12: had does going between and they were not together. So
- 47:44Speaker 12: it was just like Bucks for Roman. Does were trying
- 47:47Speaker 12: to avoid him. But it's definitely even being sixty five
- 47:51Speaker 12: degrees seventy degrees today, they were going.
- 47:53Speaker 7: I'll like to return to something in case people missed.
- 47:55Speaker 13: It four minutes into his first set, right, but I
- 48:01Speaker 13: would like to I would like to wrap this up
- 48:03Speaker 13: by asking Steve what he was doing when I shot
- 48:05Speaker 13: this book.
- 48:07Speaker 7: I was trying to help the deer heard by doing
- 48:09Speaker 7: some kyot work on November four, And that's why that
- 48:11Speaker 7: bunk was free to see who he was, you know.
- 48:14Speaker 12: Right, because the real threat wasn't in the woods to
- 48:18Speaker 12: get out there.
- 48:19Speaker 7: Oh you know what, Tony had found him on a
- 48:21Speaker 7: camera and his name was He might not have heard
- 48:25Speaker 7: it before. His name was old split times you put
- 48:31Speaker 7: an old old try split is what he should have been, right,
- 48:33Speaker 7: pretty derivative, dear name here. We didn't go too far
- 48:37Speaker 7: outside of the lines. I'm trying not to seem jealous.
- 48:41Speaker 7: Do I see him jealous Chilli, I seem good. I
- 48:44Speaker 7: seemed like I seem like I'm not like, I don't care, right,
- 48:46Speaker 7: I don't think a jealous man would go Kyle November four?
- 48:51Speaker 7: It was like I didn't know. I mean, who could
- 48:53Speaker 7: have foreseen that in November four?
- 48:55Speaker 12: You should definitely not go to your tree stand and
- 48:57Speaker 12: go run a trap lane out on the moonscape and
- 48:59Speaker 12: the brass.
- 49:00Speaker 7: Guy, I can see where you're coming from on.
- 49:02Speaker 12: It anyway, get into a tree right now?
- 49:06Speaker 7: Oh look, how didn't notice that he's been rubbing? Rubbing
- 49:10Speaker 7: big time?
- 49:12Speaker 2: These guys need to work on their report and skills.
- 49:15Speaker 7: East Nebraska. Rudd is running.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Before after?
- 49:24Speaker 7: No?
- 49:25Speaker 2: Is it over? Oh no, it's still going. It's one
- 49:30Speaker 2: wait before we go to the next one. I got
- 49:31Speaker 2: addendum to this one. Our buddy Pat was also out
- 49:35Speaker 2: there hunting with those guys. He got a buck as well.
- 49:38Speaker 2: So it's happening out.
- 49:39Speaker 5: There and Steve's chasing coyotes.
- 49:42Speaker 1: M hm, well now he's he's in a tree trying
- 49:45Speaker 1: to kill a deer.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Now, all right, back to the report. I don't think
- 49:50Speaker 2: we need to finish this one.
- 49:54Speaker 14: What's up, meteor Live, I'm bear newkeom coming at you
- 49:57Speaker 14: with a report for the Southeast. I've been hunting a
- 50:00Speaker 14: lot the last two weeks, and I've really seen the
- 50:02Speaker 14: rut activity start to pick up the last couple of days.
- 50:05Speaker 14: The first chase I saw was the last couple days
- 50:09Speaker 14: of October. But this week I've seen two big shooter
- 50:14Speaker 14: bucks that I haven't seen before, both chasing doze. So
- 50:18Speaker 14: the rut, I would say, is coming into its peak
- 50:21Speaker 14: over here. Next week we've got a big cold front
- 50:24Speaker 14: coming and so i'd imagine that that will be probably
- 50:28Speaker 14: the peak of the rut. But I've been seeing a
- 50:30Speaker 14: lot of chasing. I've seen three or four chases alone
- 50:35Speaker 14: this week, and the big bucks are starting to come
- 50:38Speaker 14: out of the woodwork. But I'm switching over from food
- 50:41Speaker 14: sources right now, switching more to travel corridors and other
- 50:45Speaker 14: pinch points, and have been having a lot of luck
- 50:48Speaker 14: that way. There's also a few spots where I saw
- 50:51Speaker 14: a lot of does in the early season, and I
- 50:54Speaker 14: went into one of those spots the other day and
- 50:57Speaker 14: instantly got in on a chase. There are three box
- 51:00Speaker 14: chasing one do, so the rut is in full swing.
- 51:03Speaker 14: If there's ever a time to be out in the woods,
- 51:05Speaker 14: it's right now, So good luck to all of you
- 51:07Speaker 14: guys who are getting out there.
- 51:11Speaker 15: Hello everybody, good morning from central Wisconsin, giving you a
- 51:14Speaker 15: little rust. Sitting at the breakfast table this morning, coming
- 51:18Speaker 15: up with a solid hunt plan for the next few days,
- 51:22Speaker 15: and I think I think we've got a good plan. Anyways,
- 51:26Speaker 15: what I've been seeing is a lot of the mature
- 51:29Speaker 15: dominant bucks have been pretty locked down on doughs, so
- 51:32Speaker 15: the ruts obviously happening right now. It's a good time
- 51:36Speaker 15: of year to be sitting all day. Once those bigger,
- 51:39Speaker 15: mature deer you know, get off that dough, they breeder,
- 51:42Speaker 15: they start looking for another one, they're going to be cruising.
- 51:46Speaker 7: So what I'm.
- 51:46Speaker 15: Focusing on is betting areas, so down wind side of
- 51:50Speaker 15: betting areas, pinch points between betting areas, and then also
- 51:54Speaker 15: in the evenings and mornings, transitions between you know, the
- 51:58Speaker 15: betting area and food. Wherever those doughs are going to be,
- 52:01Speaker 15: those bucks are going to be checking them out. So
- 52:04Speaker 15: be careful on the roads driving at night in Wisconsin.
- 52:07Speaker 15: You know, it's a hazard, so deer are running around.
- 52:11Speaker 15: Good luck to everybody, and I hope you get out there,
- 52:14Speaker 15: and I hope you shoot a big buck.
- 52:19Speaker 1: What acuting there?
- 52:21Speaker 4: You have?
- 52:22Speaker 2: It sounds like things are happening. Does that get you
- 52:25Speaker 2: real excited? You're honest?
- 52:28Speaker 1: Uh, you know, I was kind of joking about being
- 52:30Speaker 1: here for the rut report. The thing about a rut
- 52:32Speaker 1: report is like it's never gonna change because what one
- 52:38Speaker 1: person sees doesn't really make a difference. What you could
- 52:42Speaker 1: be the next ridge over, next valley over, county over,
- 52:45Speaker 1: it could be a completely different thing, just depending on
- 52:47Speaker 1: if you're where the hot dough is or not right
- 52:50Speaker 1: or Chester there has got some cool video like he's
- 52:53Speaker 1: been in them, Like they obviously have a hot dough
- 52:55Speaker 1: that these bucks are around. But like Mark, is it
- 52:59Speaker 1: a great podcasts with about like what science says about
- 53:03Speaker 1: the rut? And those fawns are all they try to
- 53:08Speaker 1: be all born, or I should say their moms all
- 53:12Speaker 1: try to give birds sure on the same day so
- 53:15Speaker 1: that they have the fauns have the best chance of survive.
- 53:17Speaker 2: It's called predators.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Well that's one reason, but the other reason too is
- 53:21Speaker 1: that like if it's Memorial Day, which is from like Pennsylvania,
- 53:25Speaker 1: just take that latinitude on the line across the Midwest,
- 53:29Speaker 1: like you have the most food on the ground.
- 53:31Speaker 2: They try to time it with the green up.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so you don't want to be too early because
- 53:35Speaker 1: you don't have enough food. It can you can still
- 53:37Speaker 1: be get some cold nights and you could die when
- 53:40Speaker 1: you're only weigh two pounds, you know, as a deer.
- 53:43Speaker 1: And so like the peak breeding is going to always
- 53:47Speaker 1: be sure, it just might happen at night or that
- 53:50Speaker 1: gestation period before you know whatever that is two hundred
- 53:54Speaker 1: some days before Memorial Day, right, So it's fun to
- 53:57Speaker 1: hear about what people are seeing and what's happening. But
- 54:00Speaker 1: every single year for the rest of our lives across
- 54:04Speaker 1: like the Midwest, right like roughly November one to November fifteenth, twentieth,
- 54:11Speaker 1: it's gonna be pretty good hunting.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Yep.
- 54:14Speaker 4: You know.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, it's it's good to know what's
- 54:18Speaker 2: going on around some different areas.
- 54:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fun. Like I said, it's entertaining.
- 54:23Speaker 2: It's about the hype, yep, I'm hyped the Obviously we're
- 54:30Speaker 2: in the hard of hunting season here, so we're gonna
- 54:33Speaker 2: we're gonna share some recent crew hunt stories. No, boy, Maggie,
- 54:38Speaker 2: what do you got?
- 54:39Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I U I was zel hunting this year,
- 54:43Speaker 5: and uh, I'm gonna.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Pull up the pictures, Maggie.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Is that not something you do every year?
- 54:48Speaker 5: I mean it is. So I kind of been like
- 54:52Speaker 5: year on year off for the health reasons.
- 54:56Speaker 4: So like last year, I was just U I was
- 55:00Speaker 4: packing out, so I was I was hunting, I just
- 55:03Speaker 4: wasn't pulling the trigger because my eyeballs were messed up, right,
- 55:09Speaker 4: But so yeah, this year it was my turn to
- 55:11Speaker 4: pull the trigger. And we had a real slow October.
- 55:17Speaker 4: We hunted every weekend in October and did not have
- 55:22Speaker 4: a single opportunity to show it.
- 55:23Speaker 2: Now, the thing about Wyoming is their rifle season starts
- 55:26Speaker 2: like October first. Yeah, they're still rutting, you know.
- 55:30Speaker 4: Well they're real high up too, and we don't have
- 55:33Speaker 4: pack animals or nothing, so and I just had a
- 55:37Speaker 4: general tag. So we're kind of hopping around because it's
- 55:40Speaker 4: like one place will be open for a couple of
- 55:42Speaker 4: weeks for bull and then another place will and so
- 55:45Speaker 4: it's like sort of just hopped around for where we
- 55:48Speaker 4: could hunt because I was like, you know, I'd like
- 55:50Speaker 4: to shoot a bull if I can, I'd be cool.
- 55:52Speaker 4: You know, It's I'm a meat hunter. But I also
- 55:56Speaker 4: can't help it that I want to shoot something with horns.
- 56:00Speaker 4: So I think we ended up hunting four different areas
- 56:04Speaker 4: in total, and uh, this last one was like, all right,
- 56:10Speaker 4: there's a cold front coming in, feeling good about it,
- 56:13Speaker 4: We're gonna hunt this new spot. We were scouting out
- 56:15Speaker 4: on Onyx and like we're both from the area, so
- 56:19Speaker 4: we're pretty familiar with you know, where to go. It's
- 56:22Speaker 4: just a matter of where there's gonna be people, where
- 56:24Speaker 4: there's gonna be elk, and so uh.
- 56:28Speaker 2: Usually there were where the people aren't.
- 56:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and that was we got pretty lucky.
- 56:33Speaker 4: We uh we saw these elk first thing in the morning,
- 56:37Speaker 4: but it was just dumping snow and it was like
- 56:40Speaker 4: they were like five hundred yards away. So we were
- 56:45Speaker 4: just kind of chomping around falling tracks all day, like trying.
- 56:51Speaker 1: To saw a bunch of elk, but then didn't go
- 56:52Speaker 1: after them.
- 56:53Speaker 4: Well we did, but they we just we kind of
- 56:56Speaker 4: lost them in the timber we we were we were
- 57:00Speaker 4: trying to get after him. We eventually got back to
- 57:03Speaker 4: those elk. It was the same It was the same
- 57:06Speaker 4: group where I shot that bull at like three o'clock
- 57:10Speaker 4: that afternoon, So It was just a matter of like
- 57:15Speaker 4: looping around, crawling around in some downfall hell holes, and
- 57:21Speaker 4: finally coming back to an open meadow where we could
- 57:24Speaker 4: get to him.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Were you tracking him in the snow or just looking
- 57:27Speaker 2: for him?
- 57:29Speaker 4: It was both, and then we had a pretty good
- 57:32Speaker 4: idea of where they'd be. We kind of gave him
- 57:35Speaker 4: some time in the afternoon, went on a little side quest,
- 57:40Speaker 4: saw some real big bull tracks, and I was getting
- 57:44Speaker 4: it really excited. We were going to see a bigger elk,
- 57:46Speaker 4: which we didn't, but I'm still happy to shoot little
- 57:51Speaker 4: four by five elk.
- 57:52Speaker 5: He's real tasty.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Listen, those young bulls are the ones.
- 57:58Speaker 5: O my gosh, young bulls. I don't think anything can
- 58:01Speaker 5: top it.
- 58:02Speaker 2: You're rolling the dice with those cows. Man, they could
- 58:04Speaker 2: be like feen years old.
- 58:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I totally.
- 58:08Speaker 4: I was just explaining that to my mom, like just
- 58:11Speaker 4: the other night. I was like, I don't know, I
- 58:15Speaker 4: feel like I'm kind of a cougar hunter, Mom, I
- 58:18Speaker 4: like the young bulls.
- 58:23Speaker 5: And then oh that's Bill. That's uh, that's my bird dog.
- 58:26Speaker 8: Bill.
- 58:27Speaker 4: He's happy, he is, he's ready to spend some time,
- 58:31Speaker 4: and he got to fetch like one duck that day.
- 58:33Speaker 5: We were kind of just tramping around.
- 58:36Speaker 4: It was a quick morning hunt because we had an
- 58:38Speaker 4: elk to cut up that afternoon.
- 58:40Speaker 5: Uh, we just wanted to get him out.
- 58:42Speaker 4: So Bill is happy to get some elk scraps and
- 58:46Speaker 4: happy to be be the star of the show from
- 58:49Speaker 4: here on out.
- 58:51Speaker 5: Nice work, Maggie, Thanks, it was a fun hunt. Oh
- 58:56Speaker 5: I forgot.
- 58:57Speaker 4: I brought you guys a little treat milk jerky from
- 59:01Speaker 4: my bowl. But I've been told it is not a
- 59:03Speaker 4: fun auditory experience to listen to people eat jerky.
- 59:07Speaker 1: I eat jerky and tell my hunting stories at the
- 59:09Speaker 1: same time.
- 59:12Speaker 5: We'll save it for after the show.
- 59:14Speaker 2: But uh, I mean, I don't give a show I'm
- 59:16Speaker 2: looking for.
- 59:16Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to trying.
- 59:17Speaker 4: If you haven't tried, uh, Danielle Prue Its smoked venison
- 59:22Speaker 4: jerky recipes.
- 59:23Speaker 1: It's heavy on the smoke.
- 59:25Speaker 4: It's uh it's my go to favorite and it's it's
- 59:29Speaker 4: worth trying out.
- 59:30Speaker 5: I tweak it a little bit, but we'll try.
- 59:31Speaker 2: It here in a few minutes. Yeah, your honest letters
- 59:35Speaker 2: hungry all right.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I started with this first slide because, uh, it turns
- 59:40Speaker 1: out this is my biggest bull to date. Bow or rifle. Yeah, Yehnie,
- 59:45Speaker 1: and UH didn't really know what I had until I
- 59:48Speaker 1: walked upon him and found him. Uh so, yeah, that's
- 59:52Speaker 1: exciting Corey. Uh, it's taped him for me the other day,
- 59:56Speaker 1: three ten inches on the dot. He's pretty stoked. Next
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: picture shows Uh, speaking of eating bulls, the backstrap was
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: very surprised. I've actually sort of reorganized my freezer and
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: my plant because I've got a lot of meat this year, caribou, deer,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: lots of deer with the kids shooting deer, this bull,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: and I was gonna give away a lot of elk steaks,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: but this bull is eating extremely well, Like even the
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: hind quarter steaks have been very tender, just delicious. So
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I'm actually starting to hoard this bull's meat a little
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: bit more.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Well you can like you can keep that Like people
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: think it's like a year, Like you could be eating
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: that bull three years from now.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Oh for sure, for sure. Let's see. Next there's a
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: buck of gott in Idaho. Whatever. Nice buck.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Fun hunt.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: What made it super fun was hanging out with our
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: buddy Max Barda, who you can see in the next photo.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Oh no, we had We had an awesome tent site
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: where you could literally glass for bucks right out of
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: the tent door. S Yeah, there was a little bit
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: of snow up high and it was not That was
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: kind of probably the last camping trip of the year.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: We got to spend three nights on the mountain.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Packed some pizza in there.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Yeah, well we made we made a pit stop on
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: the drive down and we were having some pizza and
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: I'm like, you know what, let's add a uh, let's
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: add a few more slices to this order and then
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: we can have some in the mountains. So we packed
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: some up in the into the mountains with us, and uh, yeah,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: it was great to share a week with Max. All right,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: here's here's the exciting stuff. Here's youth hunt with my daughters.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: We are three hundred fifty yards maybe a little bit
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: less from a betted buck. Mabel was the one to
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: be shooting. Mabel laid there on that on that buck
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: for nine hours. We got there on to that spot
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: right there at ten am. That buck never stood up.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: We yelled at it. Aina, my other daughter shot bullets
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: ten feet long. Nine hours really ten ten to What
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: time did you get dark out there?
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: I don't think it was that like but a lot. Yeah,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: eight hours maybe.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Well ten to six would be eight. I guess, all right,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: eight hours.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: Long time and she's like staring through the scope.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Yeah, on a bettered buck. And the one thing Brody
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: later told me I should have tried is to I
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: didn't have with me. But I'll get to that fawn
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: and distress that. Oh Brody's gonna talk about it anyways.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Uh yeah. The next slide shows that when you're waiting
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: for eight hours on a buck, it takes some masks.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: My girls have become extremely good at napping because they're
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: both napping. I'm like, who's watching the deer? To stand
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: up you?
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: So?
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Did you guys have the sun? I'll gladly do it.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Did that sun get behind you? Like you weren't having
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: to stare into the sun to watch that buck? No,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: that's good.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: No, No, we're looking kind of doo east actually, so
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: I got behind us for sure. And then let's see,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: was that it for all my pictures?
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: That was it?
- 1:03:03Speaker 10: That was it?
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Okay? Oh well, I was gonna mention last night Mabel,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: who did not get a shot off that day. We
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: went on a hunt last night to a very target
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: rich environment not far from Bosman a lot of white
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: tail deer, she kind of I asked her. I thought
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: this was a clever answer. I said, are you gonna
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: shoot the first box that comes out? Which I thought
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: she would say, yes, you know, to be successful, put
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: some meat down. She goes, uh, depends on what he
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: looks like. So then we had to look over. We
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: had to look over. We literally saw more deer yesterday
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: than I'll see on on my entire Wisconsin hunt. I mean,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I don't know. We saw probably close to one hundred
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: white tail deer and multiple bucks that we were like, okay,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: too small, small to medium, two medium, little, getting a
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: little bit better than we finally got. We saw a
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: few that were like big enough and they the one
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: big enough buck came to us, got to within two hundred,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: like with twenty minutes of light left, and we were
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: like safety off, ready to shoot him. And that sucker
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: had been feeding all evening, not running doughs, nothing up
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: until that point, like just out of range. And then
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: once he like came into range within the doors, he
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: just got full on ruddy and he would not stand
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: still long enough for an eleven year old to make
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: the shop and It was funny because I was like
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: talking her through the whole time. I'm like, Okay, he's
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: the one facing left, he's the one facing right, he's
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: running right. He's got dough behind him now, And all
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: the time she's like, yeah, okay, I'm on this. I'm
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: on the right buck. I'm on the right buck. Okay,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: he's got a dough going right to left behind him. Yep,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: I'm on the buck. I'm on the buck. And then
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: as light was fading and they were getting a little
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: bit farther away from us, I could like hear her
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: answers and her voice starting to crack a little bit,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: as in like, oh, I know it's not gonna happen tonight.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: I'm going home, bucklest I gotta tell the story about
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: not shooting one. And then multiple times she's like I
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: think I'm looking at him, but there's also some grass
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: and like I want to be sure, And I'm like, yeah,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: you can't shoot if you're not sure. You know, you
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: gotta be sure, And so we had that a bunch.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: So anyways, it's like, it would have been great to
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: kill a buck last night, But at the same time,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I'm like, she's killed I guess she's only killed one
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: other bucks. She's got three dollars. Now, it's all been
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: pretty easy form, right. It's good to have a couple
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: of hunts where she's just having to work for it
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: and not have just success just laid in her lap.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Again, Definitely, definitely she'll get one this season. I guess
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: that leads me, Phil, Can you pull up the antelope
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: one first? This is my kid Hayden. This was opening
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: day of antelope season. The reason like, he shot an antelope, four,
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: he shot bucks, he shot a elk, like the kids
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: killed some animals. The reason I'm showing this picture is
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: because this year I kind of decided I was going
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: to let him make most of the the decisions, like
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: on how the hunt went. And it started like at
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: first light, like we were parked on a high spot
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: on a road to glass as you do for antelope,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: and I was like, let's check what would be the
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: north side of the road, because we had in the
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: passing a lot of antelope in that zone. And he's like, no,
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: we should glass the south side of the road first,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: because pretty soon we will be staring into the sun
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: over there and we won't be able to glass it.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: I was like, man, kid's got a point. So we
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: like hike in in low ways, get on a knob,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: start classing, and he found five antelope like within minutes,
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: and I was like, it's great. There's a like I
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: couldn't I couldn't tell if like with my eyes and
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: it wasn't like quite you know, light light yet if
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: there was a buck or not. But he's and he's
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: just freehanding a pair of those Siga image State one.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: He's like one of us buck like cool. But and
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: I was like, we can't. There's like no way we
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: can't go straight at him, like they're gonna see us,
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: you know. So I'm like, what do you think we
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: should do? And he's looking around and he picks a
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: route like a circular, you know, half circle route around
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: like sounds good to me. And we kind of eventually
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: get up into that zone near where they were. We
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: had a little like pointy like dirt mound kind of
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: thing we're using as a landmark, and man, we got
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: in there and it's just like where are they? Because
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: you get in that antelope stuff and it's broken and
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: there you realize that they were in a low spot.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: You couldn't really tell from the road. And We're sitting
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: there for a while and I was like, man, I
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: think we should like creep forward like fifty yards and
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: get a look into that low spot. He's like, no,
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: let's stay here. Sure enough, a few minutes later, we
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: see some ears and some horns and uh. Eventually they
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: feed up out of that low spot and I'm like
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: two fifty and you know, he took care of everything else.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: It was cool because it was like, really like his
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: hunt for the Yeah, for the first time.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Yeah, sounds like from the at least the details that
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: you shared that you might just want to let him
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: continue to do that, start guiding you a little bit,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: look in.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: The right direction, exactly exactly.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: I like that you are doing that with him, because
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I told both my girls too. At the end of
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: this year's youth Hunt, I'm like, next year, I'm not glassing.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: I'm I'm in glass because I like the glass, and
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: I'll be like, oh, I see some bucks.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Find them.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm like, you guys are gonna have to
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: find them, yeah, because otherwise they just like they like
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: to hang out while dad's glassing up the critters. Yeah,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: and now I'm gonna I'm gonna make them find the
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: fine deer.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: Yep, we can do the next one there, Phil, all right,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: that's my younger son.
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: This year he turned ten, so he first year he's
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: able to hunt in Montana. And you know, same thing,
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: youth hunt. We do a youth hunt together a group
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: of us, and this was opening morning, and he definitely
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: wasn't like looking for my other kid was looking for
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: a big one, the one that got the antelope. But Conley,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: the younger one, was like any buck. And we went
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: kind of in a zone we had hunted in years past,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: and his brother was a little bummed because that was
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: like his brother's zone. But just me and Conley went
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: in there and it was windy and cold that morning.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: He was suffering a little bit while while we're glassing around,
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: and things calmed down, like maybe an hour after shooting
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: l like eight thirty, it kind of got a little warmer,
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: the wind calmed down, and I glassed up two little
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: teeny bucks, like one of them might have been a forky,
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: the other one was probably a spike. But it was like,
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: all right, it's on, let's go, And we had to
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: kind of hustle down this drainage to get into shooting position,
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: and these two bucks were like oblivious to what was
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: going on. We were out in the open and they
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: just weren't looking our direction. And I got conly set
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: up for a cross candying shot that was a little
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: over three hundred, and you know, get him. He's laying down,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: he's shooting off a bipod and kaboom, Like I say,
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: are you steady? All that stuff. We go through the
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: whole thing and he lets one fly and misses, and
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: one of the bucks continues to stand there. The other
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: one runs. I was pretty sure he had missed, but
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: the other one ran in a way that I was like,
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: we got a check. We went down there and he's like,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: can I shoot it the other one? It's like, nobody,
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: We got to make sure you didn't hit the first one.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: So we went in there and we spent a good
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: thirty to forty five minutes looking for blood and hair nothing,
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: and he was down man like bummed out first first opportunity.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: He was definitely like bummed, like no tears, but like close,
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: you know. And I was like, man, we gotta both
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: hold it together and just go find another one. And
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: an hour later we found a buck betted down and
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: the train laid out nicely for us to get set up,
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: but it was still three hundred yards and he was
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: bedded like on a timbered hillside. And I forgot to
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: mention that. Earlier that morning, when we had first sat
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: down to start glassing, we'd heard some like hooting and
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: hollering way off in the distance, and well, Conley was like,
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: is that a coyote? And I was like, man, I
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: don't like I think it was people. And the first
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: thing that came to mind is like, there might be
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: some cowboys in here, because there's cattle in the area
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: we're hunting. Anyway, we're laid down on this buck. He
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: dry fires on it a couple times, like he's comfortable,
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: he's solid, everything's looking good. And I tell him, like,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: we might have to lay here for a while, you know,
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: before he stands up and he's cool with it. And
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: then we hear that hooting and hollering again, and I
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: look off that direction and maybe a thousand yards away,
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: here comes two cowboys with a couple of dogs pushing
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: some cows, and I like know that zone well enough
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: to know where they are, that that cattle trail is
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: going to go right under that buck, like right under him,
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh my god, really, like what do
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: we do here? And I told Conley, I was like,
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: we can lay here and see if that buck just
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: lets them go underneath him and nothing happens, which and
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: I was like, I think the buck's gonna spook because
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: they're gonna get too close to him. Or I can
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: hit this fond this fond bleat real loud a couple
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: times and try and get him to stand up. There's
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: a chance like he could run, but there's a good
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: chance he'll stand up. And he didn't even think about it.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: He's like hit the bond bleek like I don't want
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: the horses running underneath that deer.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: And I did it.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: The buck stood up. I was like, are you solid aim,
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: you know? And ten seconds later, boom he kills the buck.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: Nice yeah, And then like.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: The cowboys were out of sight. They had to cross
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: this draw. But I was like, Conley, we're gonna like
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: walk over that direction and talk to him before we
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: go look for your buck. And we went over there
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: as young couple, very nice. I was like, you know,
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: he just shot. They're like we heard the shot. Hope
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: you get I mean, and then the guy's like, did
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: you see any cows down the hill? I was like, yeah,
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: there's a bunch down there. So they just took off
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: and look for their cows. We went up there and
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: found the buck and it was all smiles. You know,
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: it's fun.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Heck, yeah, yeah, yeah, he was fired up.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's great. All right, thanks for listening to our stories, guys.

- 1:15:22Speaker 1: There are a lot of fun to make. Yeah, it's
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: always a fun project. Yeah, especially because we plan them
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: not in the hunting season, which is smart of us.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: Yep, get to eat a lot of food.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: The one I keep going back to in the original
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: cookbook is the fish stew.

- 1:15:44Speaker 7: To do very well.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: Is it a chowder? I can't remember. Yeah, I mean
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: it's kind of one of the same and well, no,
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: it's doing chowder are the same thing?
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: I think chowder is like creamy yeah?

- 1:16:42Speaker 1: You love them.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: But let's move on, philed to see if we can
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: actually pick a winner.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: Okay, yes, I'm just gonna rapid fire through a bunch
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: of these and then you guys just kind of flag
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: them in your head. By far the most the answer
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: that came up the most was that my my wife
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: or my girlfriend thinks my cooking is terrible and this
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: would help me. There were so many of those that
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: I don't think I picked any of them. You guys,
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: step up your game.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys are gonna have to buy this thing. Sorry, yeah, sorry,
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: let's see.
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: Okay, I'm just gonna run through these, welcome, says Brodie.
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: If I win, I will put the recipes into the
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: fall menu of the kitchen I manage?
- 1:17:20Speaker 5: Is that a copyright?
- 1:17:21Speaker 7: All?
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: That was gonna be my next question. Also you can't
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: do that with Wild Game if it's like a restaurant kitchen.
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm sure he's just talking about the recipes anyway.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: Okay, yeh, that's gonna be ay.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: Ben says, need a new recipe for my tag tag
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: soups getting a little stale. Kevin says, my seven year
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: old daughter's favorite show to watch together as a mediator
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: in your favorite way of helping in the kitchen is
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: cooking Wild Game with me. Having these cookbooks would give
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: us infinite memory getting better mogre our, Dude, why should
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: I win this book because I've already cleared shelf space
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: and trained my cat to turn pages. I don't win,
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: I'll be forced to read cereal boxes again. Don't let
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: that happen.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: Where live like shipping this thing to him?
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: It could be expensive, let's see, Brian says, contingency plan
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: for acquiring the cookbook filled you accept bribes?
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: My venmo is Phil Taylor six. Let's see it won't
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: chair his video game handle those? Yeah?
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: Duh, Ethan, anytime I cook Wild Game, I truly feel
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: like I'm disrespecting my harvest unless I'm using one of
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: Stee's recipes. No, others come close. Just ask my wife
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: how many times I've said this.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: They like, that's sucking up a little bit. Yeah, a
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: little bit.
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: Uh speaking of sucking up or well that sounds mean
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: I'm just gonna read it.
- 1:18:37Speaker 9: Uh.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: Ritzman says, I'm a young adult who recently got married,
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: had my first baby, and I'm hunting, butchering and cooking
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: solo for the first time in my life. And then
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: he's got a part two. My dad was my mentor
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: for years, but a devastating shattered pelvis left left him
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: unable to keep up the tradition. The cookbooks would be
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: one more arrow in my quiver and bringing the hunt
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: tradition in to my family. Another one from Brian, He
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: says ax Barta would want the cookbook to go to
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: his favorite native North Dakota.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Brian.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: When Max wins a game of trivia, I will send
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: you so many cookbooks.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: There you go. To be honest, you're getting excited about
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: any of these? Not really?
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: Yeah, apologies, I flagged the flagged the ones that that
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: that's jumped out to me.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: Remember Brody, I was looking for entertainment, I know, entertaining.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: But there's a guy named Adam who has been just
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: typing out verses from the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: and replacing random words with cookbook. I'm not going to
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: select yours, Adam, but you're gonna love the Meat Eater
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: podcast on Monday.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Stay tuned, Phil, We gotta find a winner here. This
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: is dragging on too.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Listen, you guys. You guys can can jump into the chat. Honestly,
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: out of all of them. When Mogors popped up, I
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: was like, I thought that he would just take it
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: because it was funny.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: We love Mogor.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get it. We'll ship it to me.
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: There was one that kind of made me laugh, but
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: it was just how it was written, and it's this is.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: My favorite one.
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: And I'm not going to put on the screen because
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: of the profanity, but I will read it and censor it.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: Steven says cookbook. I don't want or deserve no stinking cookbook,
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: but an fed up truck calendar that I deserve. I
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: deserved an f up anything for that matter. That's from Steven.
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: All right, well, let's do this. Mogor gets the book
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: and Steven gets the calendar.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Sounds good too.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: How's that? No, Mogor send uh, don't send your address
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: and stuff to me, send it to.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Like the radio at the meat eater dot com, which
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: is the correct email address.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: There we go. All right, we got any other like comments.
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: But I've got a plane to catch soon, so let's
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: wrap this baby up.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: How about that? All right, we'll shut you guys down.
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: We'll have I mean, this is already on the longer
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: side of the show.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: We'll see you next week. Thank you, Thanks everybody for
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: tuning in and get out there in the woods of
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: the ruts on take it easy.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: Thanks guys. Bite
