Transcript
- 0:00I'll read the question you will read the answer.
- 0:15Pretty simple today.
- 0:17Let's straight to the point.
- 0:22What is God?
- 0:27Amen.
- 0:40It's fitting that this is a question for today.
- 0:45Because when we read Hebrews 3, 16 through 19, we really come to some very important
- 0:52things that we need to address when we're looking at the issue of unbelief.
- 0:57So these are really important doctrines that we go through each week.
- 1:04And have you ever thought about the question not who is God, but what is God?
- 1:09And question number four in the Westminster Confession, the short catechism is straight
- 1:14to the point.
- 1:15It's really couldn't be said any better.
- 1:20And I'm thankful for that document kind of helps us keep grounded and talk about and
- 1:25deal with issues about God concerning God and the ways of God.
- 1:28Because as you know, as a church, our main purpose in life, our highest calling in life
- 1:36is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
- 1:40And that's question number one.
- 1:43And to love God, love his word, love his ways and love his thanks.
- 1:50So as we're going to be going through Hebrews 3, and we'll be finishing up today, we probably
- 1:56won't we're not going to go into Hebrews 4, which is just a continuation.
- 2:02But I want to go through some Old Testament and some New Testament with this.
- 2:06It's a very straightforward message.
- 2:10So let's pray.
- 2:11Father, I want to come before you.
- 2:14We ask that you would guide your people in your truth that you would teach us your word,
- 2:21Lord that you are honored and glorified.
- 2:23Lord, we know that you speak and you speak through your word.
- 2:29So Lord, we eagerly await to hear from you as you guide us through your amazing, infallible,
- 2:38inerrant word.
- 2:39Lord, we praise you and thank you for your faithfulness and goodness and that you have
- 2:44given us life and life abundantly in Christ and that it's clearly your character, who
- 2:51you are, your purpose, your plan is all revealed and completely explained in your word and
- 2:57we honor you.
- 2:59We thank you for this amazing story of redemption and this wonderful narrative.
- 3:03To you be honor and glory forever in Jesus name.
- 3:06Amen.
- 3:07So let's go to chapter three, verse 12 and we're going to read and keep reading all the
- 3:13way through 19.
- 3:15Chapter three, verse 12, take care, brothers, lest there be any of you an evil, unbelieving
- 3:23heart leading you to fall away from the living God, but exhort one another every day as long
- 3:30as it is called today that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin for
- 3:37we have come to share in Christ if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the
- 3:43end.
- 3:45As it is said today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
- 3:51For who were those who heard and yet rebelled?
- 3:55Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses and with whom was he provoked for 40
- 4:03years?
- 4:04Was it not those who sinned whose bodies fell in the wilderness and to whom did he swear
- 4:11that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?
- 4:18So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
- 4:25Principle, you guys ready, a rebellious heart is an unbelieving heart and a believing heart
- 4:35is an obedient heart.
- 4:38A rebellious heart is an unbelieving heart and a believing heart is an obedient heart.
- 4:45Psalm 37, three through five says this, trust in the Lord and do good, dwell in the land
- 4:51and befriend faithfulness, delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires
- 4:56of your heart.
- 4:57Commit your way to the Lord, trust in him and he will act.
- 5:01Many times we read this and we think if we just do good, and that's not the point of
- 5:07Psalm 37, the point of Psalm 37 is trusting in the Lord means to be obedient.
- 5:15Trust in the Lord and live it out, do good.
- 5:19Dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
- 5:22Delight yourself in the Lord, delight yourself in his ways and his word and he will give
- 5:29you the desires of your heart because your heart's desires will be his desires.
- 5:35It's not that God desires anything, it's not in need of anything, but that he loves
- 5:43his ways.
- 5:46He loves his word.
- 5:49Commit your way to the Lord, trust in him and he will act.
- 5:52Now, how does that fit Hebrews three?
- 5:55What you'll see is in the people of Israel, the total opposite of this.
- 6:01And we're going to go to the Old Testament and then we're going to go to the New Testament
- 6:06and then we're going to look at Israel today and we're going to have to really deal with
- 6:10some really clear issues here.
- 6:16So let's go.
- 6:18After who were those who heard and yet rebelled?
- 6:24Who were the rebellious ones?
- 6:27Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses?
- 6:34Interesting that this is the way the writer clarifies this.
- 6:38We know that Jesus is the better prophet because when he leads a people, he leads them to the
- 6:47promised land.
- 6:48Moses couldn't lead them into the wilderness because he wasn't allowed into the promised
- 6:53land.
- 6:54Even Moses disobeyed.
- 6:58And this is the prophet that the Jews hang their hat on.
- 7:01This is the prophet that the Jews say that this is the one.
- 7:07We need another Moses.
- 7:12Moses, a good man, conformed by God to do purpose for God, but he is not Jesus.
- 7:24Verse 17, with whom was he provoked for 40 years?
- 7:30Was it not those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
- 7:34In other words, they, the people of Israel provoked God for 40 years.
- 7:42And what was their end result?
- 7:46They died in the wilderness.
- 7:49They did not enter his rest, his promised land.
- 7:54We're going to define that in a minute.
- 7:57And to whom did he swear they will not enter his rest?
- 8:02But to those who were disobedient, what do you notice the three words here?
- 8:07There's three very clear words that are being presented here.
- 8:14First word is rebellion.
- 8:16What's four words?
- 8:18Rebellion they rebelled.
- 8:19Second word is they provoked.
- 8:21They brought God to anger.
- 8:23The third, they sinned.
- 8:26And the fourth, they were disobedient.
- 8:30And look what God says concerning rebelled, provoked, sinned, and disobedient.
- 8:37So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
- 8:43Now I want you to get this.
- 8:44This is important.
- 8:45If you want to know who a believer is and who's not a believer, and you want to get
- 8:50outside of this nonsense that people go, well, you can't judge, is there's a clear distinction
- 8:58between the saved and the lost, not the church and the unchurched.
- 9:04Because there's a bunch of church people that are lost.
- 9:08The church doesn't save anybody.
- 9:10We're talking about converted believers versus unconverted lost people.
- 9:16Okay?
- 9:17It is unbelief.
- 9:19And unbelief is produced, or the result of unbelief is rebellion, provocation, sin, and
- 9:29disobedience.
- 9:30All four of these come from a heart of unbelief.
- 9:35So people can say a prayer all day long.
- 9:38They live a life of disobedience.
- 9:43They are rebellious.
- 9:44They are provoking God.
- 9:45They sin in their disobedient period.
- 9:49Those are unbelievers.
- 9:52That is the standard.
- 9:53This is not an issue of judge, lest you be judged.
- 9:58Okay?
- 9:59It's very important that we understand that.
- 10:02We don't need to judge those in the world.
- 10:05They're already judged.
- 10:08They're happy in their disobedience.
- 10:11Look at the world around you.
- 10:13These are people that fill the pews that come to church who claim they're believers, but
- 10:18they live disobedient, broken lives.
- 10:22They deny the power that has been given to them.
- 10:27And so we're going to see this in Deuteronomy chapter one.
- 10:32So if you would turn there, Deuteronomy chapter one.
- 10:38Now I want you to understand something.
- 10:40What is the distinction of quote unquote God's people?
- 10:45How can we know who are God's people and who are not?
- 10:52God's people are an obedient people.
- 10:56God's people obey him.
- 10:57Jesus says if you love me, you will obey me.
- 11:00We're going to see that in John five and then John 14.
- 11:05Okay?
- 11:07But I want you to notice something that God clarifies in Hebrews three, specifically verses
- 11:1316 through 19, so that you can see it historically.
- 11:19This is what God said happened, because it did.
- 11:24Verse 19, Deuteronomy chapter one, verse 19 says this.
- 11:29Then we set out from Harab and went through all that great and terrifying wilderness that
- 11:35you saw, and on the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as the Lord our God commanded
- 11:44us, and we came to Kadesh Ben-Era, and I said to you, you have come to the hill country
- 11:51of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us.
- 11:56I want you to see that.
- 12:00God has given them the land.
- 12:03Now I want you to notice how they respond to God.
- 12:08See?
- 12:11The Lord our God has set the land before you, go up, take possession as the Lord, the God
- 12:19of our fathers has told you, do not fear or be dismayed.
- 12:26Look what it says in verse 22, then all of you came near me and said, let us send men
- 12:33before us that they may explore the land for us and bring us a word again of the way by
- 12:41which we must go up and the cities into which we shall come.
- 12:47The thing seemed good to me, and I took 12 men from you, one from each tribe.
- 12:55So God says take possession, and they're like, you know what, let's send 12 spies.
- 13:01Let's kind of not sure.
- 13:06So Moses is like, okay, no problem, we can do that.
- 13:10No big deal.
- 13:12Verse 24, and they turned and went into the hill country and came to the valley of Esko
- 13:19and spied it out, and they took in their hands some of the fruit of the land and brought
- 13:24it down to us and brought us word again and said, it is a good land that the Lord our
- 13:30God is giving us, yet, yet you would not go up.
- 13:43What?
- 13:48But you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God, and you murmured in your tents
- 13:54and said, because the Lord hated us, he has brought us out of the land of Egypt to give
- 14:01us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us.
- 14:05Really?
- 14:07I wonder what's changed.
- 14:10God told them, I'm giving you the land.
- 14:13He promised them the land.
- 14:15It's now gone through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
- 14:18It's been brought to Moses now.
- 14:20400 years they were slaves in Egypt.
- 14:24You brought us out to the Amorites so they can kill us.
- 14:27Really?
- 14:28He took you out of the strongest nation and empire of the world called Egypt, kills the
- 14:33entire army by drowning them, causes them to not only send you out of Egypt, but to
- 14:40send you out with all of their gold, silver, and everything else.
- 14:44They were handing it to you while you were walking through the city.
- 14:48Get out.
- 14:51God did all this and you're saying the Amorites are going to kill you.
- 14:55What would cause them to think this way?
- 14:59They love their idols.
- 15:00That's what caused them to think this way.
- 15:02How do we know that?
- 15:03Because right after they were brought out and they're standing at the bottom of Mount
- 15:08Sinai and God speaks to them and gives them the commandments by word, as in thunder, God
- 15:17then hand writes the commandments on two tablets, hands it to Moses, and Moses brings them down
- 15:24and when he comes down, what does he see?
- 15:27They built an idol because that's what Israel does.
- 15:31They're always going to have idols.
- 15:33As a matter of fact, that's what it says.
- 15:37Why can't anybody just look at the reality of what's happening here?
- 15:40Let's define what God's people are.
- 15:43God knew that they were going to do this when he brought them out of Egypt and he brought
- 15:49them out anyway.
- 15:50That's called mercy.
- 15:51God knew that they would complain and murmur, but he fed them anyway.
- 15:57That's called grace.
- 16:00What more does God have to do?
- 16:02Then look what it says in verse 28, Deuteronomy 1 28.
- 16:09Where are we going up?
- 16:11Our brothers have made our hearts melt saying, the people are greater and taller than we
- 16:17and the cities are great and fortified up to heaven.
- 16:22And besides, we have seen the sons of Anakim there.
- 16:26Then I said to you, do not be in dread or afraid of them.
- 16:31The Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you just as he did for you
- 16:38in Egypt before your eyes in the wilderness where you have seen how the Lord your God
- 16:46carried you as a man carries his son all the way that you went until you came to this place.
- 16:55Yet in spite of this word, you did not believe me.
- 17:01It doesn't matter what God did.
- 17:04It didn't matter if he performed all kinds of beautiful miracles to deliver his people.
- 17:09He gave him his word and they still didn't believe it.
- 17:12You do not believe the Lord your God who went before you in the way to seek you out a place
- 17:18to pitch your tents in fire by night and in the cloud by day to show you by what way you
- 17:29should go.
- 17:32So not only did they hate their God, they thought he was so small that he couldn't even
- 17:40defeat the Anakim.
- 17:42That's how big their God is.
- 17:46And they lay against the wailing wall today beating their chest and they continue to deny
- 17:52the God who saved them, who came, put on flesh, died on the cross, was buried and crucified,
- 17:59was crucified dead and buried and rose again on the third day, whom they crucified, the
- 18:03scripture says, which we proved during resurrection weekend, each and every one of us participated.
- 18:10We're all guilty.
- 18:13That's just Deuteronomy 1.
- 18:15So when we read in Hebrews, for who were those who heard and yet rebelled?
- 18:20Was it not those who left Egypt led by Moses?
- 18:28And with whom was he provoked for 40 years?
- 18:31Turn to Numbers 32 verse 6.
- 18:35But Moses said to the people of Gad, now I want you to get this, this is Gad, the son
- 18:40of Leah and Reuben, the son of Isilpah.
- 18:47Moses said to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben, these are two tribes of
- 18:52the people of Israel.
- 18:53Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here?
- 18:57So this is what happens.
- 18:59They're about, they're told they need to go into the land to take the land.
- 19:03And Gad and Reuben were like, no, I kind of like it here.
- 19:09I like it like right here.
- 19:11We want, we want this land.
- 19:12Now we just, we just want, we want to build here.
- 19:16We want to shepherd here.
- 19:19We want to stay here.
- 19:24That's how they're feeling right now.
- 19:25They're like, we're done, I'm done.
- 19:28We've been traveling for 40 years in the world.
- 19:29I'm like, I'm parking it.
- 19:31I'm tired.
- 19:32Verse 7.
- 19:35Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that
- 19:42the Lord has given them?
- 19:45Your fathers did this when I sent them from Kadesh-Burnia to see the land.
- 19:52Do you remember that?
- 19:53We just read that.
- 19:54These people died and now it's time, Moses is at the end of his life and he's reminding
- 20:02them this is exactly what your fathers did.
- 20:06Oh, it's like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
- 20:11Okay.
- 20:12Verse 9.
- 20:13For when they went up to the valley of Esco and saw the land, they, they discouraged the
- 20:18heart of the people of Israel from going into the land that the Lord had given them.
- 20:24And the Lord's anger was kindled on that day and he swore saying, surely none of the men
- 20:33who came up out of Egypt from 20 years old and up and upward shall see the land that
- 20:42I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob because they have not wholly followed
- 20:49me.
- 20:50Did you hear that?
- 20:53None except two men.
- 20:56So God brings them and he says to them, we're going in.
- 21:01No, not doing it.
- 21:06Okay.
- 21:07And he says, fine, you're not going into the land with me.
- 21:13What's he talking about there?
- 21:15Right here in Hebrews 3 verse 18.
- 21:20Hebrews 3 verse 18 and to whom TD swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those
- 21:28who were disobedient.
- 21:29Well, how can they enter a rest when they're supposed to be entering the land?
- 21:34That's the point.
- 21:37Our rest is not in what we have.
- 21:40Our rest is not in our home.
- 21:43Our rest is in who abides in you and who you abide with.
- 21:49That's rest.
- 21:53God is with us, in us and abides with us.
- 22:01That's rest.
- 22:02They didn't get it.
- 22:04The reason why they couldn't enter God's dwelling with him is because they did not believe.
- 22:12You get the point now, true rest in Christ is true belief and true belief goes and takes
- 22:23the land because God said, take the land.
- 22:28It's not, you know, I need to think about that.
- 22:32I don't know if that's a good idea and you can apply that principle in almost any situation.
- 22:40You see a hungry person, I wonder if I should feed them.
- 22:44Let me think about that.
- 22:46I told you that story.
- 22:48No, you feed them.
- 22:50There's no question whether you should feed them.
- 22:54You feed them.
- 22:55You do it.
- 22:57That's the point.
- 22:59Rest is rest is abiding with God and God abiding or in us.
- 23:06We are with him and he is in us.
- 23:09If we are, if Christ is in the father and we are in Christ, then we abide with Christ
- 23:15in the father.
- 23:16We're going to see that in a minute.
- 23:19Now let's keep reading verse 12.
- 23:22None except for Caleb, the son of Hathune, the Kenazite and Joshua, the son of Nun, from
- 23:31for they have wholly followed the Lord and the Lord's anger was kindled against Israel
- 23:37and he made them wander in the wilderness for 40 years until all that generation that
- 23:45had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone.
- 23:50And behold, you had risen in your father's place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still
- 23:59more the fierce anger of the Lord against Israel.
- 24:02In other words, generation after generation after generation.
- 24:08So this is Moses.
- 24:09Well, it doesn't change much because the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
- 24:16Turn to John chapter five, John chapter five verse 39.
- 24:20So instead of God taking them into a promised land and God sending prophet after prophet
- 24:25after prophet to come before God, the Lord God and pray and beg that God would not forget
- 24:34his people.
- 24:35Do you remember that little prayer and that Daniel had spoken, Daniel nine?
- 24:43Well, that prophecy is being fulfilled.
- 24:48As Daniel had said, chapter five, verse 39, look at the heart of the people.
- 24:58Jesus is amazing because the very, very God little G that the people of Israel followed
- 25:07is Moses.
- 25:09And that was just one of their gods.
- 25:11Their God was their law.
- 25:13They didn't want the God of the law.
- 25:15They wanted the law to be their God.
- 25:19That's what they did.
- 25:21And then they ended up changing the written long and making the verbal Torah and get me
- 25:26started on that whole situation.
- 25:28Verse 39 says this says you search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal
- 25:38life.
- 25:39And it is they that bear witness about me.
- 25:42Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
- 25:46Isn't that the same thing they did?
- 25:50You refuse to go into the land and dwell with me there because I'm not big enough, strong
- 25:55enough to take care of you.
- 25:56I know I'm speaking for God.
- 25:58That's not what I'm not trying to do that.
- 26:00But that's kind of what they're implying.
- 26:05Verse 41 I do not receive glory from people, but I know that you do not have the love of
- 26:14God within you.
- 26:16I have come in my father's name and you do not receive me.
- 26:21If anyone comes to comes in his own name, you will receive him.
- 26:28Moses came in his own name.
- 26:29You received Moses.
- 26:33How come I the lawgiver come in the father's name and you reject me?
- 26:39That's what he's saying here.
- 26:41Verse 44 how can you believe when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek
- 26:49the glory that comes from the only God because they hate him.
- 26:54They are a rebellious.
- 26:56They pray.
- 26:57They bring about provocation.
- 26:59They say they're disobedient.
- 27:01They do not believe and this is exactly what Jesus is saying.
- 27:05Not only basically if we were to summarize the context here, I came to you, was with
- 27:13you for 40 years in the wilderness, led you by fire and cloud and you still rejected me
- 27:19then.
- 27:20I come to you in flesh and you still reject me.
- 27:22Why?
- 27:23Because I'm not Moses.
- 27:24Watch what he says.
- 27:28Watch what he says here.
- 27:31Do you not think that I will accuse you to the father?
- 27:35There is one who accuses you.
- 27:38Moses on whom you have set your hope.
- 27:43For if you believed Moses, you would believe me for he wrote of me.
- 27:49But if you do not believe in his writings, how will you believe in my words?
- 27:55Ouch.
- 27:56In other words, 400 years in Egypt, I deliver you out of Egypt.
- 28:02I come, I put on flesh, I'm the Messiah, I'm the promised one, I'm the one who was born
- 28:07in Bethlehem.
- 28:08You remember that guy?
- 28:09That's me.
- 28:10And I turn around and I give you the words of life and you reject me here too.
- 28:14Why?
- 28:17Because they hate him.
- 28:19Let's just be honest.
- 28:21An unbelieving heart is hatred toward God.
- 28:27You say you obey, but then you disobey the very words and commandments I've given you
- 28:31to do.
- 28:32You don't want the one who gives the commandments, you want the commandments.
- 28:37And then you want to be able to manipulate those commandments to get your power and gain.
- 28:44So that you can gain profit off of my words.
- 28:48That's basically what he's saying here.
- 28:51Let's clarify a little bit more and we'll end it with this.
- 28:54John chapter 14 verse 8.
- 28:58Now this is him talking to his disciples here, which is shocking because you would figure
- 29:07that they would give it.
- 29:10And he's a lot more patient and kind and understanding towards them, but he does hold them accountable
- 29:17and look what he says here.
- 29:22So he goes and I'll read verse 7.
- 29:25If you had known me, you would have known my father also from now on.
- 29:31You do know him and have seen him.
- 29:33That's what Jesus says to the disciples.
- 29:37And Philip said to him, Lord, show us the father and it is enough for us.
- 29:42Doesn't that sound familiar in the Old Testament?
- 29:50Give us manna.
- 29:51Give us some food.
- 29:54I'll give you manna.
- 29:55Fine, here's some manna.
- 29:57Now we want meat.
- 29:58It's like you're never satisfied.
- 30:04Show us the father, it's enough for us.
- 30:06Verse 9, Jesus said to him, have I been with you so long and you still do not know me,
- 30:12Philip?
- 30:13What Jesus is saying is I and the father are Yahweh, totally and completely, 100% in all
- 30:23essence and being.
- 30:27The God of your fathers is the triune God of Yahweh.
- 30:32Have I been with you so long that you still don't know me?
- 30:37How much more?
- 30:38What more do you want from me, Philip?
- 30:43I've casted out demons, I've healed sick, I've fed twice, 5,000 people.
- 30:51You still don't know me, Philip?
- 30:53That's basically what he's saying here.
- 30:57Look what it says.
- 30:58Whoever has seen me has seen the father.
- 31:01How can you say show us the father?
- 31:03What was Philip's problem?
- 31:07Do you not believe that I am in the father and the father in me?
- 31:16The words that I say to you, I do not speak of my own authority, but the father who dwells
- 31:22in me does his works.
- 31:26Believe me that I am in the father and the father is in me, or else believe on account
- 31:32of the works themselves.
- 31:34You didn't believe the works of your fathers, your forefathers when I brought them out of
- 31:39Egypt in the pillar of a cloud where I stood, in the pillar of a fire where I stood when
- 31:47I met with Moses in the burning bush and I stood in the midst of the bush when I brought
- 31:52plague upon plague upon plague out of Egypt and they brought you, I brought you out of
- 31:56Egypt underneath slavery.
- 32:00And what do you do?
- 32:01You complain that you didn't have any food, so what do I give you?
- 32:04I give you the greatest food you could ever want and need, manna.
- 32:09You complain.
- 32:10I give you quail.
- 32:12You complain.
- 32:13You're thirsty.
- 32:14I give you water.
- 32:15You complain over and over and over again.
- 32:17If you don't believe what I'm saying to you, believe the works.
- 32:19They didn't believe the works then.
- 32:21They didn't believe his word then.
- 32:22They're not going to believe his works now and they don't believe his word now.
- 32:28And that has happened over thousands of years and then we turn around and we say to the
- 32:32people called the church, that's the people of God.
- 32:38This is not an issue of anti-Semitism.
- 32:40This is an issue of clearly understanding biblically who are the people of God.
- 32:46Those who love me, who will obey my word.
- 32:49Look what it says, truly I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that
- 32:53I do and greater works than these will he do because I am going to the Father.
- 32:58Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified than the
- 33:03Son and if you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
- 33:07If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
- 33:14That is the people of God.
- 33:17That is the people of God.
- 33:22The reason why I'm passionate about this is because if we don't really look at the heart
- 33:26of the people of Israel, you will not evangelize them and you will lie to them and tell them
- 33:33something that is not true.
- 33:34They are sinful, rebellious, broken people just like you and I were.
- 33:40And they need a savior and his name is Jesus and over and over and over again, you bring
- 33:45the glory of Jesus Christ and they reject him.
- 33:49That's not my Messiah.
- 33:51Of course, you want an idol, you want another Moses, that's who you want.
- 33:57And you don't want a Moses that's really a Moses, you want a Moses that's in the image
- 34:03of you.
- 34:05So you can manipulate and control him.
- 34:11That is the truth.
- 34:18How I wish all people, especially Israel, the same passion that Paul had for his people,
- 34:25if my people would just see.
- 34:31But Paul came to the conclusion that you read Romans nine.
- 34:38It's okay.
- 34:40In the same way that not all Gentiles will be saved, not all Israel is Israel.
- 34:45The Jews that come to faith in Christ, they are true Israel.
- 34:52To them belong the patriarchs and the scriptures and the Messiah.
- 35:03To them, they are our family.
- 35:07Those are the ones who you should be driving to go find.
- 35:10So I want to end with this one statement.
- 35:12I'll read it again.
- 35:14Rebellion, provocation, sin and disobedience all come from a heart of unbelief.
- 35:20And you cannot be a people of God with a heart of unbelief.
- 35:26Only the people of God have a heart of belief.
- 35:31And if you love me, you will obey me, the scripture says.
- 35:37This is difficult and true.
- 35:43So please pray for our brothers and sisters who are Jews that God would draw his people
- 35:49home in the same way he has drawn his people from a flock that is not of that flock.
- 36:00Father, praise you and thank you.
- 36:04Thank you that your people truly are people who are committed to obey you, to love you,
- 36:10not an issue of law or legalism, but an issue of heart.
- 36:17That if we really love you, we will do what you call us and command us to do.
- 36:24Help us to walk uprightly before you, to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not
- 36:29in our own understanding, but in all our ways acknowledge you.
- 36:32And you will direct our paths.
- 36:33Lord, we thank you and praise you.
- 36:34To you be honor and glory in Jesus name.
- 36:35Amen.
