Transcript
- 0:02Tad Eggleston: Good evening, everybody. Welcome back to the 22 Panels Heavy Metal Book Club.
- 0:08Tad Eggleston: I am joined by Peter, I am joined by Matt, I am joined by Dylan Gilbertson, whose Kickstarter is moving into fulfillment stage.
- 0:17Dillon Gilbertson: He sent out stuff today. Woo! Woohoo!
- 0:24Tad Eggleston: Which means the next one's right around the corner.
- 0:28Dillon Gilbertson: I mean… Calendar-wise, kinda.
- 0:32Tad Eggleston: I know!
- 0:34Dillon Gilbertson: Hmm.
- 0:35Tad Eggleston: So, how's it going, guys?
- 0:40Tad Eggleston: We kind of doubled up this time.
- 0:44Peter Eggleston Connor: A little bit.
- 0:45Tad Eggleston: Well, because we got to see just enough Alien that I really wanted to read it, but I kind of agreed with whichever one of you said that you didn't think we could necessarily do a whole episode from it, particularly given how much we talked about it already.
- 1:02Tad Eggleston: But we finished reading the alien graphic novel.
- 1:05Tad Eggleston: And… I… I did, I really, really…
- 1:10Tad Eggleston: Simonson, like, knocked it out of the park.
- 1:14Matt: When doesn't he?
- 1:16Tad Eggleston: Well, this is true, but…
- 1:23Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, this book is… It was gorgeous from top to bottom. I loved everything. Every piece of art.
- 1:32Tad Eggleston: I…
- 1:32Dillon Gilbertson: I loved.
- 1:36Tad Eggleston: only seen the movie Alien once, so, like, it's not deep, deep in my memory, but there was one point where I'm like, this is way bigger than it was in the movie, wasn't it?
- 1:49Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, I think that's for visual effects, that's supposed to be, like, a visual effect that's coming at you to look bigger.
- 1:56Matt: That's Fantastic foreshortening.
- 1:59Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 1:59Tad Eggleston: I mean, I'm certain that there's that too, but, like…
- 2:03Tad Eggleston: I was really impressed that, if anything, the climactic, you know, alien out of the belly scene was… more…
- 2:16Tad Eggleston: Startling to me.
- 2:18Tad Eggleston: It… in the…
- 2:19Matt: The movie? Yes.
- 2:20Tad Eggleston: than the movie, even though I was watching for it, even though I knew it was coming, even though, like…
- 2:26Tad Eggleston: It's… it's a great use of the page turn.
- 2:30Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm like.
- 2:31Matt: For sure.
- 2:32Tad Eggleston: It is so… I mean, just like… and again, like… I mean, part of it is the differences in storytelling and movies, and part of it is…
- 2:43Tad Eggleston: Or comics versus movies, and part of it is, like.
- 2:48Tad Eggleston: certain things that comics just do so well, and a good page turn is high on the list of… I don't know that you can…
- 3:00Matt: It's harder to do it in white fashion.
- 3:02Tad Eggleston: Suspense.
- 3:03Matt: Yup.
- 3:05Tad Eggleston: You know, where I know it's coming, I know it's coming all the more, because having seen the movie, it really foreshadows it. You've got this big.
- 3:14Tad Eggleston: Blotch a red.
- 3:18Tad Eggleston: And you know what's coming, and still you turn the page, and it's like, oh, shit.
- 3:25Matt: Yupper.
- 3:27Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I really liked the scene. The only thing I, felt…
- 3:31Peter Eggleston Connor: About this part that, they probably could have done without was…
- 3:38Peter Eggleston Connor: Eruption, a scarlet shower of flesh of… or… of flesh of blood.
- 3:46Peter Eggleston Connor: This is, like, the only thing that… You're right! I really like this comic, and I really don't like how sometimes…
- 3:54Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, sometimes they go off and add in words, and it's like… You're showing this so well.
- 4:01Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, it's very… it's very telling not showing.
- 4:04Peter Eggleston Connor: Right.
- 4:04Tad Eggleston: I mean, in a lot of ways, that was, that's something that I'd say is an editorial
- 4:10Tad Eggleston: Ball drop.
- 4:11Tad Eggleston: Because I could see how you'd put that stuff in the script.
- 4:17Peter Eggleston Connor: But then when you look at that game… That other one that we were just on with, Brett tries to desperately.
- 4:25Tad Eggleston: That's really the scream.
- 4:27Peter Eggleston Connor: Here's another.
- 4:28Tad Eggleston: I mean, you want to make absolutely certain that you… you might just have it say, no sound…
- 4:36Tad Eggleston: you know, I think you wanna… I think you wanna emphasize that it's not just That you don't see…
- 4:44Tad Eggleston: A word balloon or anything like that, but that literally no sound is coming out?
- 4:50Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I mean, that's… yeah.
- 4:51Tad Eggleston: But yeah, you're right, I don't… I think it's too much to say that he's desperately trying to scream. You can see that.
- 4:59Tad Eggleston: I mean, part of that is the time
- 5:04Tad Eggleston: You know, comics were still way too exposition-heavy.
- 5:07Tad Eggleston: And… the…
- 5:10Tad Eggleston: the late 70s. But part of it, I… like, that's the sort of thing that I'll… I'll lay on an editor. An editor should have said, yes, this was in the script, but looking at this picture now, we don't need it.
- 5:25Matt: I mean, you could have just had a word balloon with, like, a dot in it, or a…
- 5:28Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 5:29Matt: I mean, there's a lot of ways to do it. This exposition probably ain't the best.
- 5:34Tad Eggleston: Right. And I agree, all the more so on the alien out of the stomach. You don't need the… and, you know.
- 5:42Peter Eggleston Connor: To be fair.
- 5:43Tad Eggleston: I don't think I noticed it until you said it.
- 5:46Peter Eggleston Connor: And that's fair, and, you know, I did notice it, but that said, you know, part of the reason I noticed… But that also means that it was just, like, this distraction.
- 5:56Tad Eggleston: that I didn't notice it until you said it means that it was even less necessary.
- 6:05Dillon Gilbertson: I think the… the panel on the next page, the… that bottom panel, though.
- 6:11Dillon Gilbertson: Or, sorry, I guess we're… it's a couple pages forward. One with the big xenomorph, after they find him, and then Brett tries desperately to scream. So, the bottom panel there, like, I just want…
- 6:24Dillon Gilbertson: I don't know, as a print on my wall or something. It's really cool.
- 6:28Tad Eggleston: Oh, that is pretty…
- 6:29Peter Eggleston Connor: Pretty good one, yeah.
- 6:30Matt: one?
- 6:32Tad Eggleston: Bottom panel here.
- 6:33Dillon Gilbertson: On the bottom there.
- 6:34Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah. Okay.
- 6:40Tad Eggleston: Yeah, he's got just enough fear in his eyes, too. I mean, I love how…
- 6:45Tad Eggleston: Done right, just a couple of lines can make…
- 6:50Dillon Gilbertson: So much.
- 6:52Tad Eggleston: Feelings show through.
- 6:54Dillon Gilbertson: Well, what I think we need in that panel.
- 6:56Tad Eggleston: And the teeny tiny motion lines to show, like, the…
- 7:00Dillon Gilbertson: shaking.
- 7:01Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 7:02Dillon Gilbertson: I think what we need there is a caption box that says, Brett was scared.
- 7:13Matt: Good evening.
- 7:22Tad Eggleston: And actually, you know, seeing as this is a, let's see if I can set it up as a two-pager here…
- 7:34Matt: That looks like a good Facebook.
- 7:37Tad Eggleston: Oh, that's the wrong way, though.
- 7:39Matt: Not the profile pic, the background pic goes right across the.
- 7:41Dillon Gilbertson: The banner, or whatever.
- 7:43Matt: I have a banner, that's it.
- 7:45Tad Eggleston: See, I think… So this is the two-page spread here.
- 7:52Tad Eggleston: And then you don't actually need that, because it says…
- 7:56Dillon Gilbertson: He finds the screen.
- 7:57Tad Eggleston: Brett finds his screen. You don't have to say it's missing, because it's there.
- 8:03Tad Eggleston: Like, these two… you could have just left the exposition, and that would have shown you that the scream came just as he was, like…
- 8:13Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I would've… I would've accepted, like, that would've been great, like…
- 8:17Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 8:18Peter Eggleston Connor: The 2-bit, yeah, with the two-bit spread, and the… they have the large arg, and then… Right. …finding the screen.
- 8:26Tad Eggleston: This is… This is totally how,
- 8:31Tad Eggleston: like, reading all of these really good comics, though, is spoiling us. We're starting to, like, notice really nitpicky things that…
- 8:39Matt: And also, you gotta think about it. In 1977, this was probably the way it was done, period.
- 8:44Tad Eggleston: Oh, yeah, no, I mean, it's way less… I mean, if this was a Stan Lee page, think of how much expedition. There would be a box in every fucking panel, because I gotta get paid for being a writer.
- 8:58Matt: Yipper.
- 9:00Peter Eggleston Connor: Right.
- 9:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah… I mean, like… That's very true, but it's.
- 9:10Tad Eggleston: This is…
- 9:11Matt: Was it…
- 9:12Tad Eggleston: Roy Thomas doing the writing, I think?
- 9:15Matt: believe so.
- 9:21Tad Eggleston: Yeah. I know, Archie Goodwin.
- 9:25Tad Eggleston: So even more from that, that older style of…
- 9:31Tad Eggleston: Lots of exposition, lots of dialogue.
- 9:34Peter Eggleston Connor: Otherwise, like, I don't know, I guess, like, I don't remember the set pieces perfectly, but… or… or… like, I remember Alien, and like, the thing is, like, reading the comic, most of it…
- 9:48Peter Eggleston Connor: just sort of processes… Really well to the movie.
- 10:01Tad Eggleston: I kinda wish…
- 10:03Tad Eggleston: And, like, seeing as I, like, saw Alien for the first time in, like, the last 5 years, it's, like, not even a major wish.
- 10:13Tad Eggleston: I kind of wish that I'd somehow come across the comic first.
- 10:17Tad Eggleston: I would have liked to see…
- 10:20Dillon Gilbertson: That would be cool.
- 10:21Tad Eggleston: how… how… I mean, that's… I mean, going back to what I was saying.
- 10:26Matt: either on or off air about Megalopolis. Yep.
- 10:29Dillon Gilbertson: Bye.
- 10:30Tad Eggleston: I'm kind of glad that I read the comic first. It'll be interesting to see how the movie feels.
- 10:35Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, it would be really cool to see…
- 10:38Dillon Gilbertson: like, to see the xenomorph, to see the facehugger, to see the ships, and just…
- 10:43Tad Eggleston: neat.
- 10:43Dillon Gilbertson: Characters and stuff, and then, and then just be really excited to see that translated to real life, kind of a thing.
- 10:50Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 10:52Dillon Gilbertson: Yep, that'd be cool.
- 10:53Tad Eggleston: Well, and also, like.
- 10:56Tad Eggleston: There's no way to… it's harder to know exactly how well they told a story that you know already.
- 11:05Dillon Gilbertson: Right.
- 11:06Tad Eggleston: You know, so I'm really curious as to whether, like, somebody who read this who hadn't seen Alien would then go see Alien and not
- 11:16Tad Eggleston: Be surprised by anything.
- 11:18Tad Eggleston: Or at least not be surprised by anything that literally wasn't different. You know what I mean?
- 11:24Matt: the main difference that I remember, and I didn't, like I said, I didn't watch the movie before reading it, was when Tom Skerritt's character, Dallas, goes missing, the whole scene where Sigourney Reaver finds him.
- 11:36Matt: Yeah. He's covered in the maggots. Like, this left that, like… That's all, that's all.
- 11:42Tad Eggleston: I think we just see his foot, don't we, or is that a different one?
- 11:45Matt: I think that was a different one, I don't think we have a CDL.
- 11:47Tad Eggleston: These, these feet.
- 11:50Matt: But that's not scary, that's… that's interesting, we're just gonna let Dallas go. He could be alive, probably not, but oh well.
- 11:59Tad Eggleston: Well, I think she makes it clear that he's not. She's like, no. Nobody survived that. Yeah.
- 12:05Tad Eggleston: Fuck you guys, we are not going looking.
- 12:14Tad Eggleston: I'd like some of us to go home, please.
- 12:17Matt: Yes.
- 12:22Tad Eggleston: Like, and this is just a guy, you know, it is, like…
- 12:29Tad Eggleston: From just a story standpoint, like, The fact that…
- 12:35Tad Eggleston: That the woman who's the… supposed to be irrationally…
- 12:40Tad Eggleston: kind and caring for everyone is the one that's much better at, no, no, no, no.
- 12:46Matt: Taking care of everyone.
- 12:47Tad Eggleston: I'm gonna take care of everyone, but, like…
- 12:52Tad Eggleston: Part of that is, we have quarantine protocols.
- 12:58Tad Eggleston: You guys stay the fuck out there until we know you're not gonna kill us all!
- 13:05Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, no, I thought that was.
- 13:08Tad Eggleston: And it… and it's the tough guys who are like, no, we gotta let him in!
- 13:13Peter Eggleston Connor: Yup.
- 13:16Matt: Yep.
- 13:18Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, yeah, that it was, I mean, but also, Ash is the one who ended up letting them in, and Ash is a complete…
- 13:27Matt: Right, and they didn't even know he was an android.
- 13:30Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 13:33Peter Eggleston Connor: Ash is actually a wild card, no matter how he seems, right?
- 13:40Peter Eggleston Connor: So…
- 13:40Tad Eggleston: But yeah, no, this was… this was really… Brilliantly done.
- 13:46Tad Eggleston: Can you imagine being able to buy it for $3.95?
- 13:50Matt: Yeah.
- 13:52Tad Eggleston: Where's my time machine when I need one?
- 13:55Matt: When it came out, I was 1 years old, so my parents probably wouldn't have bought it for me.
- 14:02Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I was, I was, I was, I was, negative 1 years old, so…
- 14:10Dillon Gilbertson: So they didn't plan ahead and think, oh, baby might like this.
- 14:14Tad Eggleston: Alright.
- 14:14Peter Eggleston Connor: What's that? Like, the visuals are, like…
- 14:18Peter Eggleston Connor: I think we've said this, like, just super stunning, and, like, even… you know…
- 14:24Tad Eggleston: I… one question that I'm kind of curious is about…
- 14:28Tad Eggleston: That we don't have, because we've got a digital copy, is what the… the… Page dimensions were.
- 14:37Tad Eggleston: Because… it's got more European… panel structure?
- 14:44Tad Eggleston: So I wonder if it was more magazine size?
- 14:48Matt: Yeah, I don't know. That's a good… that's a good question.
- 14:50Tad Eggleston: for the… the… Chapters that were in That we're in, heavy metal, so probably?
- 15:03Peter Eggleston Connor: I think that.
- 15:03Tad Eggleston: That's really good, because… because having those… Extra panels to give… depth, or give…
- 15:18Tad Eggleston: Action.
- 15:20Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I think, I mean, like, it's definitely, out of a heavy metal, and I'm pretty sure the heavy metals were magazines, even back then.
- 15:29Tad Eggleston: Or a magazine size, yeah.
- 15:31Peter Eggleston Connor: So…
- 15:32Dillon Gilbertson: Google says it's 8.11 by 10.86.
- 15:37Matt: 8x10.
- 15:38Matt: Is that E6 size?
- 15:40Matt: It's more or less 8x11, more or less.
- 15:44Tad Eggleston: It's a little bit bigger than…
- 15:47Tad Eggleston: Because, like, most comics are, like, 7.5 by 10, or 7x10.
- 15:53Tad Eggleston: So… Yeah.
- 15:59Tad Eggleston: Very, very well done.
- 16:01Matt: Perfect.
- 16:04Tad Eggleston: So many beautiful pages.
- 16:06Matt: Yo…
- 16:08Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 16:10Tad Eggleston: Made me like Alien more than I liked it before.
- 16:17Peter Eggleston Connor: But Alien was so good even before this. Anyhow, we'll stop.
- 16:20Tad Eggleston: Now, I mean, a lot of people… It is.
- 16:24Tad Eggleston: And I appreciate it.
- 16:26Tad Eggleston: But, like, I didn't have any desperate urge to, like, watch it again, or, or, like, I still haven't watched any of the other Alien movies. I've just watched the first…
- 16:36Tad Eggleston: Come on.
- 16:37Peter Eggleston Connor: try.
- 16:38Matt: You really should watch the second one.
- 16:40Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 16:41Matt: Because James Cameron took it to such a great level. I will probably eventually…
- 16:46Tad Eggleston: Right. No, I've heard.
- 16:47Peter Eggleston Connor: good things in place.
- 16:49Tad Eggleston: Like, I'm not opposed to it.
- 16:51Matt: Yeah, I'm just, I'm just saying, like, out of all of them, the first two are the must-watches.
- 16:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Right.
- 16:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Alien was, like, this great…
- 16:59Matt: space horror, and then Aliens was the great… action horror.
- 17:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Ace action kind of horror.
- 17:06Matt: Yup.
- 17:09Peter Eggleston Connor: It was like…
- 17:11Peter Eggleston Connor: The best comparison I have to it is Gremlins and Gremlins 2, only at.
- 17:16Dillon Gilbertson: Probably.
- 17:16Peter Eggleston Connor: better than Gremlins, so… or Alien is probably better than Gremlins.
- 17:20Dillon Gilbertson: How dare.
- 17:21Tad Eggleston: Those… those are true Mormons.
- 17:23Peter Eggleston Connor: I love Gremlin. Do not take offense to that.
- 17:27Matt: I haven't seen Gremlins 2, I've seen the first one. You haven't seen Gremlins or Gremlins 2?
- 17:31Tad Eggleston: Not the second one.
- 17:32Peter Eggleston Connor: No, nothing tad.
- 17:34Tad Eggleston: No? Oh, wow.
- 17:35Peter Eggleston Connor: That's funny, because I was thinking about how, like, sneakers, as a kid… sorry, like, slightly off-topic, we watched sneakers recently for something else.
- 17:43Tad Eggleston: I still need to watch it for something else, but yes.
- 17:47Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, but but I was thinking about how sneakers as a kid, I'm pretty sure, like, you and Adam watched it a lot, and I.
- 17:54Tad Eggleston: Oh, I love sneakers.
- 17:55Peter Eggleston Connor: I don't remember watching it ever. Like, I somehow, like, even though it was on in the house, just completely avoided it, so… and I remember that we watched Gremlins and Gremlins 2 a lot as a kid, but as I also think about that, I'm like, okay, I think that was, like, Grandma's house, which you weren't there as often, so…
- 18:13Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 18:18Dillon Gilbertson: I watched Gremlins… it was the same thing with Critters. I watched Gremlins 2 and Critters 2.
- 18:25Dillon Gilbertson: ad nauseam, before I'd even seen or heard of the first one.
- 18:30Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, no.
- 18:31Dillon Gilbertson: And then I saw the first ones when I was much older, and I was like, wow, these are really good.
- 18:38Peter Eggleston Connor: No, they are…
- 18:39Matt: Raiders, especially. That was a great movie.
- 18:41Dillon Gilbertson: Anyway, we're getting lucky.
- 18:42Peter Eggleston Connor: I meant no offense by saying I think Alien might be better than Gremlins, but it…
- 18:49Dillon Gilbertson: Alien's more artsy than gremlins.
- 18:51Peter Eggleston Connor: Brian.
- 18:51Dillon Gilbertson: It's more highbrow than Gremlins.
- 18:54Matt: I would agree with that.
- 18:57Tad Eggleston: We go August of 79, and time out Opus Infinity.
- 19:04Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah… I like this first… this first.
- 19:08Tad Eggleston: I loved this story. I actually just noticed something that I hadn't noticed before. Like… She…
- 19:19Dillon Gilbertson: is naked? Look, I noticed that.
- 19:21Tad Eggleston: Well, no, she looks old in these opening panels here, and he looks young.
- 19:27Matt: But once he wakes up…
- 19:30Tad Eggleston: No, while he's sleeping here.
- 19:33Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, he does look a little younger. I think she stays the same age, but he does look a bit younger while he's sleeping there.
- 19:39Tad Eggleston: I think when she starts dancing, she starts feeling a little bit younger.
- 19:44Tad Eggleston: As he's getting older.
- 19:48Tad Eggleston: I mean, it's like a subtle thing, and mostly, I just… I think the art is beautiful, and I love the idea of playing and dancing a universe into existence.
- 19:59Matt: This, it really reminded me of, sandman?
- 20:04Dillon Gilbertson: I was literally gonna say, like, yeah, it reminds me of Sandman, of, like.
- 20:09Matt: Siblings coming together to do their part to.
- 20:11Dillon Gilbertson: Right, right.
- 20:13Matt: We just moved up it.
- 20:16Peter Eggleston Connor: On the… the page right before those?
- 20:21Peter Eggleston Connor: Or it's just space, and then… go down one. Down another?
- 20:27Peter Eggleston Connor: There we go.
- 20:28Dillon Gilbertson: Space.
- 20:29Peter Eggleston Connor: life, and then… Him playing and her dancing.
- 20:35Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 20:37Tad Eggleston: Those… those might actually be…
- 20:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Your favorite? Because they're probably my favorite this time.
- 20:44Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 20:46Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, I liked a lot of, like, this issue in, like, the comics. I'm not sure I can think of another image that particularly stood out to me as…
- 20:55Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, I really want… would make that my top whatever, or top, panel.
- 21:01Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, like…
- 21:02Tad Eggleston: A close second and third are literally the next two panels.
- 21:09Peter Eggleston Connor: Yup.
- 21:09Tad Eggleston: You know, the… The page, and then the top half.
- 21:18Dillon Gilbertson: Who wrote this?
- 21:21Tad Eggleston: It's a… a vowel…
- 21:23Matt: I was gonna say Neil Cameron.
- 21:24Dillon Gilbertson: No, I heard it.
- 21:27Dillon Gilbertson: I'll Maverick.
- 21:28Peter Eggleston Connor: Yo, get you in.
- 21:31Peter Eggleston Connor: Sure. Yeah. That guy.
- 21:35Peter Eggleston Connor: You're on it.
- 21:36Peter Eggleston Connor: You know.
- 21:39Dillon Gilbertson: We don't need to get into that.
- 21:41Peter Eggleston Connor: 47 years ago.
- 21:43Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, I mean, possibly. How old is Neil Gaiman?
- 21:50Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, wow! I forgot…
- 21:53Tad Eggleston: Okay, so Val Merrick…
- 21:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 21:58Tad Eggleston: is the co-creator of Howard the Duck.
- 22:02Peter Eggleston Connor: Nice.
- 22:04Peter Eggleston Connor: Wait, the comic, right? Not the first.
- 22:06Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 22:06Peter Eggleston Connor: Sweet.
- 22:07Dillon Gilbertson: Not the movie, yeah.
- 22:09Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 22:10Matt: Funny.
- 22:11Matt: Thank you for clarifying.
- 22:13Tad Eggleston: I mean, the movie's based on the comic, but like… Get co-creator status.
- 22:20Peter Eggleston Connor: I understand that it's based on the comic, but that's like saying the first Captain America is based on the comic.
- 22:27Tad Eggleston: Apparently, there is a director's cut of that.
- 22:30Peter Eggleston Connor: That was better.
- 22:31Tad Eggleston: Starting to make the rounds.
- 22:33Dillon Gilbertson: Of Harold.
- 22:34Peter Eggleston Connor: I rock live.
- 22:35Tad Eggleston: that has… Oh, so…
- 22:38Peter Eggleston Connor: I…
- 22:39Tad Eggleston: There's to be said for it.
- 22:40Matt: Oh, no kidding.
- 22:40Peter Eggleston Connor: I… I completely believe that.
- 22:43Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 22:44Matt: That makes me happy.
- 22:45Peter Eggleston Connor: Like, it doesn't… it doesn't make me, like, go off and say, I'm not just…
- 22:51Tad Eggleston: No, I get it, I get it. And, like, I reserve the right to not agree that it's, like, good rather than just better, but, like…
- 23:01Peter Eggleston Connor: Sure, sure. I recently read…
- 23:03Tad Eggleston: An article from somebody who'd gotten to see it and is like, oh, that could be interesting.
- 23:10Peter Eggleston Connor: Sure, no, like, I've just… you know, it's one of those commentaries where there was a lot of, like, those, early comic book movies in the 80s and 90s and early thousands…
- 23:25Tad Eggleston: Whoa.
- 23:26Tad Eggleston: A particularly early one.
- 23:28Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, yeah, right. That was… It was, like, post-Superman and post-really Bad Spider-Man, but…
- 23:37Peter Eggleston Connor: Right, there was a Spider-Man before Tobey Maguire, wasn't there?
- 23:40Matt: Yes, there was.
- 23:41Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 23:42Peter Eggleston Connor: He's like…
- 23:43Tad Eggleston: I think the Spider-Man was actually before Superman, even.
- 23:46Matt: Might have been.
- 23:47Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, interesting.
- 23:49Tad Eggleston: It was… ugh. It was bad.
- 23:52Peter Eggleston Connor: Well, it's kind of funny, because I feel like the Christopher… Christopher Reeves was the first Superman, right?
- 23:57Matt: No, wow. George reads.
- 24:02Tad Eggleston: That was the TV show.
- 24:03Matt: Yes.
- 24:04Tad Eggleston: and the cereals.
- 24:05Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh.
- 24:06Tad Eggleston: There was a Batman serial way back.
- 24:09Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I was gonna talk about the movies.
- 24:11Tad Eggleston: But I think… I think we were all talking modern era, Matt.
- 24:14Matt: They're not…
- 24:14Tad Eggleston: which, when it comes to superhero movies, starts, I think, with the Christopher Reeve.
- 24:19Matt: Agreed.
- 24:20Tad Eggleston: Yes.
- 24:23Tad Eggleston: Oh.
- 24:25Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah. I don't know how we got on this. Anyhow…
- 24:29Peter Eggleston Connor: I remember there was duck connection. Right. Val Merrick, Howard the Duck.
- 24:35Matt: Yeah, Mickey.
- 24:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Sure that we were talking about the comic and not the movie.
- 24:40Peter Eggleston Connor: And then the discussion unwinds into, oh, the uncut version of, the first Captain America might have actually been pretty good, and…
- 24:52Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I don't know, a lot of those, and again, I'm not sure it's, like, you know, the people who made them actually, again, just didn't have the full creative license, or the final say.
- 25:03Tad Eggleston: Well, and a lot of it was they just, I mean… The effects just weren't there.
- 25:08Peter Eggleston Connor: That's also true.
- 25:09Matt: Oh, back in the day, absolutely.
- 25:10Peter Eggleston Connor: Absolutely.
- 25:11Tad Eggleston: No.
- 25:12Tad Eggleston: I mean, we just watched, .
- 25:17Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah.
- 25:21Peter Eggleston Connor: Dracula.
- 25:23Tad Eggleston: No, before the Dracula, the, the Aguirre, who was the… who's the Dracula.
- 25:27Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, God.
- 25:31Tad Eggleston: Werner Herzog, and actually, as I think of it, I always get Werner Herzog and Roger Corman mixed up, so strike that anyway.
- 25:39Tad Eggleston: Yeah… Roger Corman did a Fantastic Four movie that, like… is… God-awful.
- 25:51Tad Eggleston: But it was his way to hold onto the rights. He had to spend at least a million dollars to make a movie.
- 25:57Tad Eggleston: To… to hold onto the rights. And, like, they did some of the costume stuff okay.
- 26:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Which… which Fantastic Four movie was that?
- 26:06Tad Eggleston: Oh, it wasn't even released.
- 26:08Matt: It wasn't.
- 26:08Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah, the one from, like, the 80s or whatever.
- 26:11Tad Eggleston: 94.
- 26:13Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 26:13Peter Eggleston Connor: Got it.
- 26:14Tad Eggleston: 94, it had, Craig J. Nevis, Kevin… or no, that's the writers. Alex Hyde White, Jay Underwood, and Rebecca Staub.
- 26:29Tad Eggleston: If, any of those names mean anything to you, then, like…
- 26:34Matt: Weird. You're a nerd.
- 26:37Tad Eggleston: Michael Bailey as Ben Grimm?
- 26:41Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm Michael Bay, Michael Bay.
- 26:42Tad Eggleston: Bailey's kidding.
- 26:43Peter Eggleston Connor: Joke, joke.
- 26:45Matt: Michael Bay.
- 26:46Dillon Gilbertson: Michael Bay was Michael Bailey, and he had to get away from the film.
- 26:50Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, he had to…
- 26:51Tad Eggleston: I play Super Freddy.
- 26:52Peter Eggleston Connor: Disassociated.
- 26:53Tad Eggleston: there on Elm Street.
- 26:57Tad Eggleston: The dream child.
- 26:59Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, so Dylan might have seen that.
- 27:01Dillon Gilbertson: Wait, hold on.
- 27:02Peter Eggleston Connor: Say that again?
- 27:03Dillon Gilbertson: Say that last part again?
- 27:04Tad Eggleston: He played Super Freddy in A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Dream Child.
- 27:10Dillon Gilbertson: It's a dream, child.
- 27:11Tad Eggleston: No.
- 27:12Dillon Gilbertson: I mean…
- 27:14Tad Eggleston: The 1989 movie.
- 27:16Dillon Gilbertson: Super fridge.
- 27:17Tad Eggleston: And he apparently played creepy…
- 27:19Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 27:19Tad Eggleston: Men in Black 2?
- 27:22Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, is Super Freddy… Super Freddy's the… the Freddy inside the comic book, when the guy draws his own comic, and then leaves it out being inside.
- 27:30Peter Eggleston Connor: Nice.
- 27:32Dillon Gilbertson: So that wasn't… that wasn't Robert Englund, that Freddie?
- 27:36Tad Eggleston: Apparently not.
- 27:38Dillon Gilbertson: I'm gonna Google this, where now I'm in a rabbit hole.
- 27:41Peter Eggleston Connor: What's the one after that you mentioned?
- 27:45Tad Eggleston: He was creepy, and…
- 27:47Dillon Gilbertson: And Freddy's dead.
- 27:48Tad Eggleston: No, in Men in Black 2.
- 27:52Peter Eggleston Connor: And…
- 27:53Tad Eggleston: This is kinda cool. He's a power plant worker, number 2.
- 27:58Tad Eggleston: in Fantastic Four First Steps.
- 28:01Peter Eggleston Connor: Nice.
- 28:05Peter Eggleston Connor: I still haven't seen that movie. Maybe at some point.
- 28:11Peter Eggleston Connor: The Great Crap Part 4, where they kill my favorite character.
- 28:17Dillon Gilbertson: Roman's already…
- 28:18Tad Eggleston: Wait a minute, Jay… Jay Underwood… who… who played… played,
- 28:26Tad Eggleston: Johnny Storm is… is power plant worker number one.
- 28:33Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, that's great. Well, he's my favorite power plant worker.
- 28:36Peter Eggleston Connor: And, and…
- 28:37Tad Eggleston: And the ABC newscasters?
- 28:41Tad Eggleston: or the ABC newscaster William Russell, is played by the guy that played
- 28:46Tad Eggleston: Reed Richards, Alex Hyde White, and the Channel 9 newscaster, Carolyn something or other, is played by Rebecca, so they brought all four of them.
- 28:58Tad Eggleston: And gave them parts in the new.
- 29:02Peter Eggleston Connor: Hey, how would you like to continue your legacy, only in a better version of the movie that you made that never got released?
- 29:09Tad Eggleston: I mean, apparently they were willing to.
- 29:12Peter Eggleston Connor: No, no, I mean, I would be willing to, too. I'm just… Anyhow…
- 29:20Tad Eggleston: I mean, since we started on the Captain America side, does anybody remember who played that Captain America?
- 29:28Peter Eggleston Connor: Nope.
- 29:30Peter Eggleston Connor: But I do remember the Grizzlies.
- 29:32Tad Eggleston: Very famous father.
- 29:38Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, you mean a reverend? Just kidding. Anyhow.
- 29:43Tad Eggleston: He's a… he is a very famous father.
- 29:46Dillon Gilbertson: Jesus?
- 29:47Dillon Gilbertson: What does that even mean?
- 29:48Tad Eggleston: I don't know. In the 1990…
- 29:50Tad Eggleston: Captain America. Captain America was played by… by Matt Salinger.
- 29:59Peter Eggleston Connor: Salinger's father?
- 30:01Tad Eggleston: J.D. Salinger is.
- 30:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Shady. Oh, okay.
- 30:06Peter Eggleston Connor: So, how about that Great Trap Part 4?
- 30:09Matt: Yeah, it was okay.
- 30:11Peter Eggleston Connor: Thank you, Matt.
- 30:13Dillon Gilbertson: It was pretty trippy.
- 30:14Matt: Yeah.
- 30:15Peter Eggleston Connor: We're trappy.
- 30:16Peter Eggleston Connor: They killed off… they killed off my favorite character.
- 30:22Tad Eggleston: Which one was your favorite character?
- 30:24Matt: Selling.
- 30:25Peter Eggleston Connor: This, dark-haired dame.
- 30:32Tad Eggleston: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 30:33Tad Eggleston: I mean, but didn't she get to go off to, like, the equivalent of heaven?
- 30:39Peter Eggleston Connor: To be with her.
- 30:39Tad Eggleston: other guy, isn't that what the end here is, or is that a different name?
- 30:44Peter Eggleston Connor: That's a different name. That's the other one.
- 30:46Matt: Oh, it is a different dame, I thought it was the same dame, that's why I was confused.
- 30:51Tad Eggleston: I thought it only looked slightly different because she was dead now.
- 30:56Tad Eggleston: I'm off in the stars.
- 30:58Peter Eggleston Connor: Nope, that's the other name.
- 31:00Peter Eggleston Connor: See, like, there was the traffic…
- 31:03Tad Eggleston: That means that the story wasn't even as cool as I thought it was. Even before that…
- 31:11Peter Eggleston Connor: There was a whole bunch of stories… Like…
- 31:16Peter Eggleston Connor: There's a part where this, dark-haired dame, I don't remember what her name is, I should actually go remember that.
- 31:31Peter Eggleston Connor: First of all, Mona, sorry, miss me of her husband's tragic death.
- 31:38Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, I think it's Mona.
- 31:40Peter Eggleston Connor: But, like… She was with, like, the first kind of villien-ness dude.
- 31:46Peter Eggleston Connor: Who, like, we weren't sure if he was really killing us or not, way back in some other… a comic with some other name.
- 31:57Peter Eggleston Connor: And then this girl, the blonde, or the lighter-haired one, which, yeah, I know, it does not look that distinguishingly different to be able to be like, oh, is this, like, a different person?
- 32:10Peter Eggleston Connor: Was Morris White's, primary, love interest.
- 32:22Peter Eggleston Connor: At the time, and he goes off and, like, goes to that world where he saves them and…
- 32:28Peter Eggleston Connor: You know, she's…
- 32:29Peter Eggleston Connor: being held in a, some sort of aquatic, or some sort of aquarium, and being forced to use a freezer to live.
- 32:38Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 32:39Peter Eggleston Connor: And they have to, like… Take her back home, and she has to get… the… some scientists…
- 32:47Peter Eggleston Connor: she, has to work with her, and that's kind of the reference they make to the scientist here. I'm pretty sure that's the same scientist.
- 32:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Because that dude's not, not the, original.
- 33:01Peter Eggleston Connor: Weird, villainy-looking dude, so… Oh.
- 33:06Peter Eggleston Connor: Doesn't really matter. I don't know how, I've retained most of that.
- 33:14Tad Eggleston: So how about this Dangbert Whittlespoon Danganorf III?
- 33:19Tad Eggleston: You're… you spent time in Portland, Peter. Did you ever meet Dangbert Wilspoon Danganorf III?
- 33:26Peter Eggleston Connor: So, probably not. Considering how, how,
- 33:31Peter Eggleston Connor: How deeply he went into three-finger, end joint holds for… Boeing string, or bowstring?
- 33:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Holding bowstrings.
- 33:43Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 33:44Peter Eggleston Connor: I was a little bit like, is that actually accurate? And… It is. I think it might be, but at the same time, it's like, okay, whatever.
- 33:54Tad Eggleston: But it was still dumb.
- 33:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 33:59Tad Eggleston: Kinda like this next one.
- 34:02Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, this was.
- 34:03Tad Eggleston: was fun.
- 34:04Dillon Gilbertson: This was for new.
- 34:06Peter Eggleston Connor: It was. It's a little…
- 34:09Matt: Hosting social commentary.
- 34:11Dillon Gilbertson: I just noticed that someone in the crowd there was wearing the same mask as this person is, right? Isn't that the same one in the middle, middle panel, bottom right?
- 34:19Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah… yeah… I mean, it's a very similar-looking map.
- 34:25Dillon Gilbertson: Total, bottom right.
- 34:27Peter Eggleston Connor: like, this one person who's off in the air and not really doing anything is… causing a…
- 34:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Massive traffic jam, and it's just people.
- 34:41Dillon Gilbertson: I thought we were gonna get a Silver Surfer story when I saw those feet go in there.
- 34:46Tad Eggleston: Well, at least we got a surfer story.
- 34:49Matt: We did, we absolutely did. Two of them in this episode.
- 34:52Peter Eggleston Connor: Also, her mask disappears, like, on the next page. Oh, I guess it doesn't disappear, they have this moment where they show her lips, and then, like, the mask is still there? I don't know, it's being taken off.
- 35:04Tad Eggleston: I mean, it's still there, here.
- 35:07Tad Eggleston: Can't see it great here, but it could.
- 35:09Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah… oh, there it is.
- 35:10Dillon Gilbertson: Or no, here it is.
- 35:12Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, buddy.
- 35:12Dillon Gilbertson: boot on and off.
- 35:13Peter Eggleston Connor: So, like, the lips up here that I was talking about, if you look at the.
- 35:16Dillon Gilbertson: Are the lips breaking through the mask? What's happening there?
- 35:22Peter Eggleston Connor: I think it's this coming.
- 35:23Tad Eggleston: I think it's right here.
- 35:25Dillon Gilbertson: It is, but why…
- 35:27Peter Eggleston Connor: That's hard time.
- 35:28Matt: dinner.
- 35:28Peter Eggleston Connor: That's what I was saying. It's showing, like, the mask is, like…
- 35:32Dillon Gilbertson: Piece of shit.
- 35:33Tad Eggleston: Showing how fast she's going.
- 35:36Dillon Gilbertson: Amen.
- 35:37Peter Eggleston Connor: Is that what it's showing? I don't know.
- 35:38Tad Eggleston: I don't know.
- 35:41Tad Eggleston: Feels like one of those things that we shouldn't question too much.
- 35:45Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh my gosh.
- 35:47Peter Eggleston Connor: And then they, like, shoot her down with this thing.
- 35:51Tad Eggleston: Zoom, zoom, zoom.
- 35:54Dillon Gilbertson: That kid gets it.
- 35:55Dillon Gilbertson: That kid knows what's going on.
- 35:57Matt: Okay.
- 35:58Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, so…
- 36:01Tad Eggleston: Then we'll get some Montelier.
- 36:04Tad Eggleston: I liked this story, too.
- 36:07Peter Eggleston Connor: This is…
- 36:08Tad Eggleston: This is a continuation of the last one.
- 36:10Matt: Oh, yeah, it was interesting.
- 36:12Tad Eggleston: You're at the mall, and you can't leave, because there was a nuclear bomb that went on.
- 36:16Peter Eggleston Connor: Right, this is a sec… this is the second part.
- 36:20Tad Eggleston: And it started making me wonder, did the nuclear bomb go off above them, or is this just to keep them shopping?
- 36:27Dillon Gilbertson: Yup. Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:30Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh.
- 36:32Peter Eggleston Connor: Well, it seems, based on what they're saying, it seems like a really bad time to have a nuclear bomb go off above them just to keep them shopping, because it seems like you could have gotten a lot more people.
- 36:43Tad Eggleston: I mean, that's possible.
- 36:45Dillon Gilbertson: I'm not gonna question their methods. They're shopping, and that's all.
- 36:48Peter Eggleston Connor: that this Montelier is a lot better, since whoever translated it didn't… Yeah.
- 36:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Fuck it up.
- 36:59Tad Eggleston: No, no hillbilly whatever translation.
- 37:07Tad Eggleston: This is very Star Wars.
- 37:10Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, a little bit.
- 37:12Matt: I didn't read it, did anyone read it?
- 37:14Peter Eggleston Connor: Nope.
- 37:16Peter Eggleston Connor: Especially now that we're on par…
- 37:18Peter Eggleston Connor: What? I don't know. It doesn't even…
- 37:20Tad Eggleston: 6?
- 37:21Peter Eggleston Connor: Huh.
- 37:23Tad Eggleston: Yeah, part 6.
- 37:24Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, there it is, Part 6. They all missed the boat on Starcrown.
- 37:28Tad Eggleston: Well, I read Part 1, and I kinda liked it, but then I didn't read Part 2, and I haven't felt like going back.
- 37:37Tad Eggleston: This was a particularly, uninspiring…
- 37:42Dillon Gilbertson: text for Galactic Geographic, I thought? Yeah, yeah.
- 37:47Tad Eggleston: But I did like the picture.
- 37:49Peter Eggleston Connor: I really like the picture. I don't remember anything about the text, other.
- 37:53Tad Eggleston: Yeah, that was…
- 37:54Peter Eggleston Connor: Whoa.
- 37:55Dillon Gilbertson: That's sort of the problem with it.
- 37:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah…
- 37:57Tad Eggleston: Whoa, whoa.
- 37:59Peter Eggleston Connor: Apparently, what was the name of the planet? Because at the end, they were like.
- 38:04Peter Eggleston Connor: And now we come together. Earth, Celeron, Noron, and Woa. Oh my god.
- 38:09Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, God.
- 38:18Peter Eggleston Connor: airtight garage.
- 38:21Tad Eggleston: Yeah, he was doing some serious hatching this issue.
- 38:23Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, this is wild.
- 38:25Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, hell yeah.
- 38:26Dillon Gilbertson: It almost doesn't look like.
- 38:27Peter Eggleston Connor: That's a… I totally didn't realize it was an airtight garage until I went back and read the top of it, and I was like, oh…
- 38:34Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 38:36Tad Eggleston: It's almost like a two-page interlude in an airtight Garage, and… Yup. And again, like, I just… I need to read it together. I'm… I'm looking forward to the point where we decide that it's time to read Airtight Garage together, because, like…
- 38:51Tad Eggleston: Sometimes I feel like he's just making so many quick cuts that, like, because it's…
- 38:58Tad Eggleston: Four months since the last… time you would…
- 39:03Tad Eggleston: Did this part of the story, and there were two other story parts in between.
- 39:10Tad Eggleston: That, like, holding them all together is just impossible.
- 39:14Peter Eggleston Connor: Sure.
- 39:18Tad Eggleston: But there's just way too… I mean, A, it's just Mo… I mean, it's Mobius. And while you know he's jamming,
- 39:26Tad Eggleston: like, he has all the pages there while he's jamming. He's not having to go, what was I thinking?
- 39:32Matt: Yeah, exactly.
- 39:36Tad Eggleston: And you just… I can't imagine him putting this detail into it without a purpose.
- 39:43Peter Eggleston Connor: Probably not.
- 39:44Matt: It's available.
- 39:45Tad Eggleston: I love this bottom panel here.
- 39:49Tad Eggleston: the big…
- 39:50Matt: Explorer.
- 39:51Peter Eggleston Connor: circle.
- 39:52Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I don't know if it's a sun, or yeah, I have no idea what it is, even, really. A luminous.
- 39:59Peter Eggleston Connor: Point.
- 40:00Tad Eggleston: Creates itself.
- 40:01Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, yeah.
- 40:02Tad Eggleston: the depths… of his concentration.
- 40:06Tad Eggleston: The luminous point grows till it overwhelms him with its total splendor.
- 40:15Tad Eggleston: And then on to Monshire Glue Glow.
- 40:19Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm on sure.
- 40:23Tad Eggleston: This one was one that, that, that qualified, for me, anyway, qualified as cool-looking, but…
- 40:33Peter Eggleston Connor: I thought it was funny.
- 40:36Tad Eggleston: See, for me, I felt like it was supposed to be funnier than it actually went about.
- 40:43Matt: Yes.
- 40:45Peter Eggleston Connor: Fair enough.
- 40:47Tad Eggleston: I mean, I look at it.
- 40:48Peter Eggleston Connor: I would agree that it was probably meant to be funnier than it was, but…
- 40:53Matt: Do you like how her hair rollers turn into guns and shoot at him, though?
- 40:56Tad Eggleston: Right. No, I mean, there's all sorts of little gags.
- 41:01Tad Eggleston: at it, and I'm like, I feel like at least each strip is supposed to be a gag strip.
- 41:06Matt: You're like, huh?
- 41:07Matt: I love how he's got that, Fantastic Four Captain… Mr. Fantastic eyeball coming out to zoom in. That's so funny!
- 41:15Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 41:15Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah. I do like the first one. The first one I thought was pretty good.
- 41:20Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 41:21Dillon Gilbertson: Of the three. Just farming wax from this dude's ear while he sleeps?
- 41:25Peter Eggleston Connor: He's… he's just farming everything for this dude of the year.
- 41:29Peter Eggleston Connor: Like, oh… It's like, it's like, what is he doing? And then it's like, I've got…
- 41:36Peter Eggleston Connor: First quality wax for your, for your floor, and then it's like…
- 41:41Peter Eggleston Connor: That's nice, how about a broom? So he just goes back to the guy and plucks hair to go make a broom.
- 41:52Tad Eggleston: I mean, I guess this next one is, it turns out he's hiding behind the female?
- 41:59Peter Eggleston Connor: Yep.
- 42:00Tad Eggleston: Trying to hunt, and then instead gets squashed between them as they dance.
- 42:06Dillon Gilbertson: Yes, dance.
- 42:08Peter Eggleston Connor: Yes, we will say dance.
- 42:15Tad Eggleston: Okay, now this last one's funnier to me. I finally got… that…
- 42:22Dillon Gilbertson: Her hair rolled…
- 42:23Tad Eggleston: My wife is telling him to stop eyeballing, and then he, like, has the thing pop out to look at the ass, has the thing pop out to look at the boobs, and that's when she releases her gun curlers on him.
- 42:39Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, now you got it.
- 42:43Tad Eggleston: No, I somehow missed that.
- 42:45Peter Eggleston Connor: Fair enough, fair enough, fair enough.
- 42:46Tad Eggleston: I think because I didn't… I agree with you, I think the first strip is the coolest, but, like, it kind of flew over me the first time, too.
- 42:56Tad Eggleston: And the second one…
- 43:01Tad Eggleston: let's face it, even when I get it, I don't actually think it's that funny. It's just kind of a thing.
- 43:07Matt: What?
- 43:08Dillon Gilbertson: You get it, so at least it makes sense now.
- 43:10Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 43:12Tad Eggleston: Yeah. So by the time I hit the third one, I just wasn't paying enough attention.
- 43:16Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, no, that's fair.
- 43:18Dillon Gilbertson: I'm with you.
- 43:19Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, the second one definitely is probably the weakest part.
- 43:25Dillon Gilbertson: So… Love me some Zooks, though.
- 43:30Matt: Being board is awesome. I'm voting.
- 43:32Peter Eggleston Connor: Cowardly Zooks.
- 43:35Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, sorry, it's called the Sargent Sunflower.
- 43:42Dillon Gilbertson: So short.
- 43:43Peter Eggleston Connor: This reminds me of Sun Pop.
- 43:46Tad Eggleston: Well, it's the same artist.
- 43:47Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, that's what I thought.
- 43:51Tad Eggleston: Just not as many boobs.
- 43:52Matt: Right, no boobs.
- 43:55Peter Eggleston Connor: goal.
- 43:55Dillon Gilbertson: for Zukes.
- 43:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Feels like a crime, don't you think?
- 43:58Tad Eggleston: The art on Dragon World was so good that it almost made me want to read it.
- 44:04Dillon Gilbertson: Nope.
- 44:04Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I can, I can, agree with that.
- 44:09Dillon Gilbertson: I think…
- 44:09Tad Eggleston: She didn't read it.
- 44:11Dillon Gilbertson: Every page of Dragon World feels like my favorite panel.
- 44:15Tad Eggleston: They are! Beautiful art, but I didn't read it.
- 44:18Matt: No, me neither.
- 44:18Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, no, I,
- 44:20Peter Eggleston Connor: I would freely admit, I'm not sure I would have gone back to read it anyways, but I was…
- 44:25Tad Eggleston: Kinda dashing to get everything done.
- 44:28Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, I will probably go back to read Dragon World, if I'm being honest.
- 44:35Dillon Gilbertson: Sorry, sorry, audience.
- 44:37Tad Eggleston: I do like the Peter Cooper.
- 44:42Matt: Yeah, Space Story is awesome.
- 44:48Dillon Gilbertson: A space story.
- 44:53Peter Eggleston Connor: Yep, and very cyclical.
- 44:56Matt: Yeah, I enjoyed that a lot.
- 44:57Peter Eggleston Connor: You can just re-read it again and again.
- 45:02Peter Eggleston Connor: Still accurate.
- 45:03Matt: That last panel there is my favorite panel on this issue.
- 45:07Peter Eggleston Connor: It's a good found. I'll admit that. I had forgotten about that one, but… That's good.
- 45:18Peter Eggleston Connor: Just the… the… I mean, this is actually the second surfing…
- 45:23Tad Eggleston: it is.
- 45:23Peter Eggleston Connor: In this issue, that's kinda cool.
- 45:25Matt: This one felt way more Silver Surfer-y, though, than the first one.
- 45:29Peter Eggleston Connor: That is true.
- 45:32Tad Eggleston: I also dug Newark City.
- 45:35Dillon Gilbertson: I… I thought New York City was brilliant.
- 45:44Matt: Yeah, it was good. Definitely good.
- 45:46Tad Eggleston: Like the seals in the bathtub.
- 45:49Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 45:52Peter Eggleston Connor: He thinks he's going insane, and then he suddenly is like, of course.
- 45:59Tad Eggleston: I'm Noah.
- 46:01Peter Eggleston Connor: Yep.
- 46:10Tad Eggleston: the mess… of fadedness.
- 46:15Dillon Gilbertson: I wanted to like this one.
- 46:18Tad Eggleston: It looks cool.
- 46:19Peter Eggleston Connor: It… it does look cool. I don't know that I have much else to say than that.
- 46:27Peter Eggleston Connor: Did find that it was entertaining.
- 46:30Tad Eggleston: Did you know that the bus is still… I mean, it's back in heavy metal, so… Of course, dude.
- 46:37Tad Eggleston: you knew this, but the bus… the bus is still going. Paul Kirchner's got another bus collection coming out soon.
- 46:46Matt: Like, a new one?
- 46:47Peter Eggleston Connor: Nice.
- 46:48Dillon Gilbertson: Fully…
- 46:50Tad Eggleston: He hasn't stopped.
- 46:52Peter Eggleston Connor: You know, I really take this episode as a bus. It was really, really amusing.
- 46:58Dillon Gilbertson: I didn't fully understand it like I did the other ones, just like the.
- 47:01Peter Eggleston Connor: Can I pose an idea to you?
- 47:04Dillon Gilbertson: Please, please do.
- 47:05Peter Eggleston Connor: He leaves the bus, he starts walking, he goes inside, he's going to essentially what we think is an apartment, he opens the door, and he's back.
- 47:13Dillon Gilbertson: Just the boss again, okay, I see, I see now.
- 47:16Dillon Gilbertson: I see now.
- 47:21Dillon Gilbertson: That was my interpretation of it.
- 47:23Matt: It's the button.
- 47:24Dillon Gilbertson: It's the bus all the way down.
- 47:26Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 47:28Matt: Yep.
- 47:29Dillon Gilbertson: Alright, I'm on board.
- 47:32Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, it took me some time to figure that one out, but I liked it.
- 47:35Matt: You know what's funny? I actually remember when buses had the, coin drop thing on the last panel.
- 47:41Tad Eggleston: True.
- 47:44Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, the subway still kind of has them, but it's just more of a scan your badge thing anymore.
- 47:50Matt: Yeah.
- 47:51Dillon Gilbertson: Change your card.
- 47:56Tad Eggleston: Aries.
- 48:00Tad Eggleston: Had lots of big noses.
- 48:05Peter Eggleston Connor: And a bunch of people who didn't actually have teeth.
- 48:08Matt: Yeah. Oh yeah, this was actually kind of funny.
- 48:10Peter Eggleston Connor: I didn't also like the.
- 48:13Tad Eggleston: The tippet… tipping the top of his head.
- 48:15Peter Eggleston Connor: Yep.
- 48:16Tad Eggleston: Afternoon, sir.
- 48:20Peter Eggleston Connor: And…
- 48:21Tad Eggleston: the robot.
- 48:21Peter Eggleston Connor: He has another appointment, so he just gives the top of his head to the…
- 48:25Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 48:26Peter Eggleston Connor: assistant.
- 48:27Peter Eggleston Connor: And then the guy comes in and talks to… talks to what he thinks is the doctor, and turns out to be…
- 48:36Matt: The equipment, and the equipment's actually the doctor. It's great.
- 48:40Tad Eggleston: Right?
- 48:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Great.
- 48:43Matt: Yeah, this was a fun… this was just a fun little strip.
- 48:45Tad Eggleston: Yeah, this could have almost have been in Mad Magazine.
- 48:49Matt: Yes.
- 48:52Tad Eggleston: Little bit too sci-fi for Mad if it wasn't spoofing a sci-fi.
- 48:57Tad Eggleston: But it's got that feel.
- 48:59Peter Eggleston Connor: Sure.
- 49:06Tad Eggleston: Then we have… Hilostratos.
- 49:14Dillon Gilbertson: Then, again…
- 49:15Tad Eggleston: She's just a one-pager.
- 49:17Dillon Gilbertson: Just an artist who's trying to…
- 49:19Peter Eggleston Connor: New page, or…
- 49:21Dillon Gilbertson: Better at drawing the outside?
- 49:23Tad Eggleston: Something.
- 49:24Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, it's just a spread. That's what I'm doing.
- 49:27Dillon Gilbertson: Okay.
- 49:28Tad Eggleston: I did enjoy Sympathy for the Devil.
- 49:32Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh yeah, no, I, I know that, like, I've noticed that they were talking about lyrics down at the bottom of the first page.
- 49:41Peter Eggleston Connor: And as soon as I started to catch on.
- 49:46Peter Eggleston Connor: to the song, I had to go listen to this song while I read it.
- 49:56Peter Eggleston Connor: That's pretty great.
- 49:57Tad Eggleston: It is. It was funny, because, like, even before getting to this, I'd been thinking that, like…
- 50:06Tad Eggleston: I think that there's a lot of… a lot of space for adapting Song lyrics and or poems?
- 50:15Tad Eggleston: visually.
- 50:16Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, I think the same thing, yeah.
- 50:18Tad Eggleston: And then… then to… to read this and go, oh yeah, they, they nailed it.
- 50:24Matt: For sure.
- 50:28Peter Eggleston Connor: I just liked one that was like, please, I meet you, hope you guessed my name. I was like, oh…
- 50:33Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 50:33Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, I know that song.
- 50:37Tad Eggleston: Woohoo!
- 50:39Tad Eggleston: Woo, woo.
- 50:42Peter Eggleston Connor: Yup.
- 50:48Tad Eggleston: Mama's Place.
- 50:50Tad Eggleston: What's another…
- 50:52Matt: Fun read.
- 50:53Peter Eggleston Connor: It was a fun range, yeah.
- 50:54Tad Eggleston: Honda.
- 50:55Matt: Yeah.
- 50:57Peter Eggleston Connor: Got these, like, weird lizard people, and they're talking about…
- 51:01Tad Eggleston: Lizards and beauties.
- 51:02Peter Eggleston Connor: I think… I think it's funny, because it's like, this lizard guy is like, oh, I have this great idea! I'm gonna, like, you know, I know I just want all this money from you guys, and I could just, like, pay… use that to pay to go to mama's place, but instead, I'm gonna stick that money in my shoe, and go to mama's place, and then…
- 51:20Peter Eggleston Connor: Tell them that, you know…
- 51:24Peter Eggleston Connor: I left my money in my other pants and get away with it. I'm like, what makes you think you're gonna get.
- 51:30Matt: Yeah.
- 51:37Tad Eggleston: It's just like the lizards.
- 51:39Peter Eggleston Connor: And then I also really liked the very end of Mama's Place.
- 51:43Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, the…
- 51:44Peter Eggleston Connor: Like, he sees people and is like, help me! And then they're like.
- 51:48Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, I wonder what hap- it makes me wonder what happened to our old pal, Bob.
- 51:53Peter Eggleston Connor: And they just shop off at, like…
- 52:01Peter Eggleston Connor: Mmm, great.
- 52:04Peter Eggleston Connor: Great.
- 52:07Tad Eggleston: Is Mark Hamill praying?
- 52:11Peter Eggleston Connor: The Mark Hamill.
- 52:13Tad Eggleston: Well, I guess it looks more like Mark Hamill now than Mark Hamill then.
- 52:17Dillon Gilbertson: Confederate Mark Hamill.
- 52:18Matt: Yeah, for sure.
- 52:20Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm putting my camel.
- 52:22Dillon Gilbertson: I liked this one.
- 52:24Tad Eggleston: Yes.
- 52:24Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, I enjoyed it. Yeah.
- 52:27Dillon Gilbertson: I really liked, I think, the next page, when, like, he decays. This one was really cool.
- 52:33Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 52:34Dillon Gilbertson: I really liked this whole page.
- 52:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Is this decaying? I thought it was weird, because it looks like he's a robot, and then he's a human, and then he's a skull.
- 52:41Dillon Gilbertson: Well, I think he's devolving, or he's going backwards, I guess, he's…
- 52:46Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, okay.
- 52:47Dillon Gilbertson: returning to the Earth, or whatever.
- 52:49Peter Eggleston Connor: I just really liked the pictures, and, you know, took it as something that was meant to be dark and meaningful, but didn't know what the hell it was, so…
- 52:59Tad Eggleston: Well, I also love that, like, you're zooming in on him to get to… you can see, like…
- 53:09Dillon Gilbertson: Okay, inside… inside the machine, there's just man, but inside man, there's just…
- 53:13Tad Eggleston: And then you zoom in on the man to the skull, and then the skull.
- 53:19Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, it's just like.
- 53:21Dillon Gilbertson: identity.
- 53:21Peter Eggleston Connor: resume, I guess. It's great.
- 53:24Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 53:27Dillon Gilbertson: Really, man.
- 53:29Dillon Gilbertson: Whoever wrote it's kind of naff, but whatever.
- 53:32Tad Eggleston: I mean…
- 53:33Dillon Gilbertson: Whoever wrote that's full of shit, probably a hack.
- 53:38Dillon Gilbertson: It's not gonna make it anywhere.
- 53:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah, no, the.
- 53:45Tad Eggleston: Isn't his name Matthew?
- 53:50Dillon Gilbertson: No, it's Mark.
- 53:52Tad Eggleston: Was it Mark?
- 53:52Dillon Gilbertson: Mark Hamill.
- 53:54Tad Eggleston: Oh.
- 53:55Matt: Him too.
- 54:01Dillon Gilbertson: Good job.
- 54:02Peter Eggleston Connor: That cover is pretty cool, too.
- 54:04Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, agreed.
- 54:06Dillon Gilbertson: Get back cover.
- 54:10Peter Eggleston Connor: Don't know what's going on with it. I mean, looks like there's a face and a bunch of eyes, or an extra eye.
- 54:17Tad Eggleston: The, the long… the long version, which is, which is this one, is… is from Matthew.
- 54:26Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, no, noisy.
- 54:27Tad Eggleston: shorter version from Luke.
- 54:30Tad Eggleston: So Luke is kind of like Mark.
- 54:32Tad Eggleston: Mark played… Oh!
- 54:37Matt: Yeah, that's true.
- 54:39Dillon Gilbertson: Wow.
- 54:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, so, to our listeners,
- 54:46Peter Eggleston Connor: They… the Amber 2 is… is literally…
- 54:51Tad Eggleston: father, who…
- 54:52Dillon Gilbertson: It's just the Lord's Prayer.
- 54:55Tad Eggleston: be thy name.
- 54:56Dillon Gilbertson: Lord's Prayer.
- 54:57Matt: Which is funny, having sympathy for the devil being illustrated, and the Lord's Prayer illustration in the same issue.
- 55:05Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 55:05Peter Eggleston Connor: Pretty… You know, we got, we got surfers, and we got… religion. What do you know?
- 55:17Tad Eggleston: Alright.
- 55:20Tad Eggleston: I know my choices.
- 55:22Tad Eggleston: I'm pretty sure I know my choice… The story was tough.
- 55:27Matt: Oh, yeah.
- 55:28Tad Eggleston: And with my original… call-on story, but Amber… Sympathy for the devil…
- 55:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, we had 3 religious stores, because we also did New York City.
- 55:40Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah.
- 55:41Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 55:41Matt: Yeah? Yes, we did.
- 55:43Peter Eggleston Connor: Nope.
- 55:43Matt: That's right.
- 55:44Dillon Gilbertson: others.
- 55:46Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, it's like ground, heaven, and man.
- 55:51Dillon Gilbertson: I think the first one is my favorite story, I think.
- 55:54Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 55:55Dillon Gilbertson: The timeout.
- 55:56Dillon Gilbertson: Time open.
- 55:56Tad Eggleston: Which is also somewhat religious, because it's a creation story.
- 56:00Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah.
- 56:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, timeline was really good. I'm gonna save it for the… my favorite panel, though. I mean, like, I could do a double up, but…
- 56:11Tad Eggleston: I… I am… I'm doubling up. Time Out is my favorite story, and that… that two-page spread is my favorite panel.
- 56:20Peter Eggleston Connor: Probably my favorite panel.
- 56:22Peter Eggleston Connor: Well, let's do panel first, I guess.
- 56:25Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, my favorite panels from a story I didn't even read.
- 56:29Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, right, yep.
- 56:32Peter Eggleston Connor: Yup.
- 56:33Tad Eggleston: So, are you… are you going with this panel too, Peter?
- 56:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Yes, I'm definitely going over the balance.
- 56:38Tad Eggleston: Alright.
- 56:39Peter Eggleston Connor: the entire issue, I'm… I don't even have any questions about, like, I…
- 56:44Peter Eggleston Connor: I get what you're saying with the, like, you know, the next two being really good, too, and they are, but they're… I don't…
- 56:50Tad Eggleston: No, no, I, I… I'm going with the same panel as you are.
- 56:56Tad Eggleston: Matt, are you sticking with.
- 56:59Matt: The last page of a space story.
- 57:01Tad Eggleston: this one.
- 57:01Matt: He won in my… yeah, that one.
- 57:04Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 57:04Peter Eggleston Connor: Good one, too.
- 57:06Dillon Gilbertson: My favorite one is the dude with the scythe in Dragon World.
- 57:10Tad Eggleston: This one.
- 57:11Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah. Look at that guy.
- 57:14Matt: That's a great panel.
- 57:17Matt: I feel like you can pick any of the Dragon World art and be in a good, place.
- 57:20Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, yeah, no problem.
- 57:21Dillon Gilbertson: Say.
- 57:21Peter Eggleston Connor: Fair enough.
- 57:22Dillon Gilbertson: I didn't read the story, but I'll be damned if it's not my favorite one.
- 57:25Matt: Yep.
- 57:26Dillon Gilbertson: Favorite panel, at least.
- 57:28Tad Eggleston: So my favorite story is Time Out Opus.
- 57:31Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, mine favor when it's timeout opens.
- 57:35Peter Eggleston Connor: See, for me, I'm… I'm gone… I'm…
- 57:39Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm having trouble between Sympathy with the Devil and, New York City.
- 57:43Peter Eggleston Connor: I think one of those is my favorite story.
- 57:45Matt: This is a tough episode, too. It is.
- 57:49Tad Eggleston: Well, it's particularly for story, because.
- 57:51Matt: there's only.
- 57:51Tad Eggleston: only really 3… ongoing, and one of those is more of a serialized than an ongoing.
- 58:01Dillon Gilbertson: Which is gonna be…
- 58:02Peter Eggleston Connor: my favorite ongoing.
- 58:04Tad Eggleston: Yes, mine too!
- 58:06Matt: Wiz, what is?
- 58:08Tad Eggleston: the boss.
- 58:08Dillon Gilbertson: The Zoox is… the Zooks isn't ongoing.
- 58:11Tad Eggleston: Okay, yeah, okay.
- 58:13Peter Eggleston Connor: 4.
- 58:14Tad Eggleston: for ongoing. Good call.
- 58:17Peter Eggleston Connor: recall out…
- 58:18Matt: Yeah.
- 58:20Peter Eggleston Connor: Story.
- 58:20Tad Eggleston: for Matt and Peter.
- 58:24Matt: It's tough.
- 58:25Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm gonna go with Sympathy for the devil. I was kind of hesitant yesterday as I was going through it, because
- 58:33Peter Eggleston Connor: It, I feel like, because it had that, like, musical note, I was giving it preference, but I'm still gonna go with it.
- 58:42Dillon Gilbertson: Awesome. I…
- 58:43Tad Eggleston: I think the fact that…
- 58:46Tad Eggleston: I mean, it's one that you have to know the song for it to evoke it, but, like, I start hearing the song.
- 58:54Tad Eggleston: As I'm playing.
- 58:55Peter Eggleston Connor: as I said, I had to go back, like, I started… I started reading it, and once I
- 59:00Peter Eggleston Connor: Sorry it got to that point where, like, oh, this is, like, Dark, I know.
- 59:05Peter Eggleston Connor: I had to go start playing the song, and just, like…
- 59:09Peter Eggleston Connor: read along to the song. That's literally what I had to do.
- 59:15Matt: I was gonna go with Newark City, but I'm definitely… I'm sticking with a space story as my favorite story.
- 59:20Tad Eggleston: That's a good call, too.
- 59:23Matt: Yeah.
- 59:29Tad Eggleston: That's a very…
- 59:31Matt: I'm gonna be true to myself.
- 59:35Peter Eggleston Connor: You can be true to yourself, man.
- 59:37Matt: You be true to yourself.
- 59:42Tad Eggleston: Alright.
- 59:43Tad Eggleston: So… Peter and I are with the bus.
- 59:48Tad Eggleston: They're ongoing.
- 59:51Tad Eggleston: Dylan?
- 59:52Matt: I'm gonna tag on to that, just because the other ongoings are…
- 59:57Tad Eggleston: I mean, I almost went airtight garage.
- 1:00:02Tad Eggleston: Just because it was so detailed and so beautiful.
- 1:00:08Tad Eggleston: that I have a feeling that when I read it all together, it's gonna be a…
- 1:00:12Tad Eggleston: Big deal pair of pages.
- 1:00:17Tad Eggleston: But the bus was just fucking great.
- 1:00:19Dillon Gilbertson: I'm also, I'm also going with the bus.
- 1:00:22Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:00:24Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I… the bus is very quickly becoming… Like, other than Mobius…
- 1:00:34Tad Eggleston: like, the thing that I associate most with heavy metal.
- 1:00:38Tad Eggleston: It's like Mobius and the bus, to me, like, represent heavy metal.
- 1:00:43Tad Eggleston: At this point.
- 1:00:45Matt: That's very interesting, because I don't think I ever would have… Put the bus…
- 1:00:51Matt: With that high of a, like…
- 1:00:55Tad Eggleston: I…
- 1:00:56Matt: When you think of heavy metal, you think of the bus, you know?
- 1:00:58Tad Eggleston: No, but let me explain it, because it's not… it's not as simple as, like, when I think of heavy metal, I think of the bus, it's that, like…
- 1:01:08Tad Eggleston: When I think of heavy metal, I think of Mobius.
- 1:01:11Tad Eggleston: But in terms of defining heavy metal, the bus is the, like…
- 1:01:17Matt: type of.
- 1:01:17Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, it's mostly fantasy, and when it's not fantasy, it's sci-fi. It's the glue that holds it together.
- 1:01:24Matt: Yep. That's true. Yeah, I get it.
- 1:01:26Tad Eggleston: Good.
- 1:01:26Matt: You're not wrong.
- 1:01:27Tad Eggleston: Just a little bit weird. We're gonna print it anyway.
- 1:01:31Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 1:01:33Tad Eggleston: Y-you know, it…
- 1:01:34Tad Eggleston: It's kind of like the, yeah, we're mostly a fantasy magazine, and, you know, maybe a sci-fi fantasy magazine, but also, we don't have any fucking rules.
- 1:01:46Matt: Right, we'll throw some mindfuckers in there for ya.
- 1:01:50Peter Eggleston Connor: Heck yeah.
- 1:01:50Tad Eggleston: Right, you know… It's like MC Escher in… in narrative form.
- 1:01:57Matt: Right. Anything goes.
- 1:02:00Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:02:03Tad Eggleston: So, I mean, and for that matter, the way it's split with a Devo ad in such a way that it takes you a minute to go, oh, that's just an ad.
- 1:02:14Matt: Yep, I need to read this and not that. Yep.
- 1:02:17Tad Eggleston: Right!
- 1:02:20Matt: I did that, so I get it.
- 1:02:22Peter Eggleston Connor: I love how it's always paired with stuff where you're like, oh, this just looks like Kazana, and then you're like, oh wait, no, this is actually, like.
- 1:02:29Peter Eggleston Connor: a half-page comic.
- 1:02:32Matt: Yeah.
- 1:02:33Tad Eggleston: You either almost miss it, because it's something just thrown in with, like, the letters page.
- 1:02:38Matt: Or it's, like, ad stuff, and you, like, read it, and then you get to the ad, and you're like, oh, wait, that's just an ad.
- 1:02:46Matt: We got.
- 1:02:47Peter Eggleston Connor: What the heck?
- 1:02:47Matt: It's a real thing.
- 1:02:48Peter Eggleston Connor: was, I was like… Oh, D.Va, second album? Okay, second out.
- 1:02:53Tad Eggleston: Right. I literally had to get… even though I saw the Devo there.
- 1:02:58Tad Eggleston: I had to get down to the Devo's second album to go. Oh, yeah!
- 1:03:03Dillon Gilbertson: He didn't walk…
- 1:03:04Tad Eggleston: banned!
- 1:03:04Dillon Gilbertson: I didn't walk into a Devo concert.
- 1:03:07Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:03:08Dillon Gilbertson: The bus is… The bus is just Devo's second album.
- 1:03:13Tad Eggleston: No, that's… you know how buses have, like, signs up inside, you know, advertising?
- 1:03:18Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:19Tad Eggleston: It's the advertisement in the, in the bus.
- 1:03:21Matt: Could be.
- 1:03:21Tad Eggleston: It's why he went back, because it's like he got off the bus, and as he was getting to his apartment door, he went…
- 1:03:28Tad Eggleston: I really want to go to a Devo show, and it talked about a Devo show in that bus, I should just go back.
- 1:03:35Tad Eggleston: She just opened…
- 1:03:37Peter Eggleston Connor: door.
- 1:03:38Tad Eggleston: door.
- 1:03:39Peter Eggleston Connor: Both.
- 1:03:42Peter Eggleston Connor: I don't know.
- 1:03:44Tad Eggleston: There was Deebo!
- 1:03:47Dillon Gilbertson: What do we got? What do we got coming up next time?
- 1:03:50Tad Eggleston: Coming up next time… let us see…
- 1:03:54Peter Eggleston Connor: 1979-09, is that?
- 1:03:57Tad Eggleston: September of 1979… Let's see what it looks like…
- 1:04:04Peter Eggleston Connor: We don't have enough digital copies of the new stuff.
- 1:04:09Tad Eggleston: No, Issue 3 just came out.
- 1:04:12Peter Eggleston Connor: That's true.
- 1:04:14Tad Eggleston: They… well, I mean, what they're doing digitally is… you can only read it on their website, you can't download it.
- 1:04:23Matt: That's…
- 1:04:23Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, right.
- 1:04:24Tad Eggleston: I don't have a way to share it, I don't even have a way to read it if I'm not connected to the internet.
- 1:04:31Peter Eggleston Connor: Other than to read it.
- 1:04:32Tad Eggleston: And, like, that kind of frustrates me. It was really good, so, like, when and if you guys get your issue 1s…
- 1:04:40Tad Eggleston: Or Issue 2s, rather, you know, we should roll.
- 1:04:44Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 1:04:45Tad Eggleston: Endora.
- 1:04:46Peter Eggleston Connor: actually go. I issued to…
- 1:04:49Tad Eggleston: And Issue 3 came out this week, though, not to subscribers. They had an issue…
- 1:04:54Peter Eggleston Connor: Like, it's in the shops.
- 1:04:58Tad Eggleston: But they didn't manage to get it to most of their subscribers, and, like, they're still trying to figure out what's going on.
- 1:05:05Tad Eggleston: So…
- 1:05:06Peter Eggleston Connor: Okay.
- 1:05:06Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:05:07Peter Eggleston Connor: As long as it's something where it's like, okay, this is something we gotta fix.
- 1:05:11Tad Eggleston: Yeah, they're off to an interesting beginning.
- 1:05:15Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 1:05:17Tad Eggleston: Looks like we get 2… Two airtight garage chapters.
- 1:05:22Peter Eggleston Connor: Do we get anything, new starting.
- 1:05:27Tad Eggleston: We get some… we get some Gray Morrow. Buck Rogers.
- 1:05:31Tad Eggleston: In the 25th century, with gray marker.
- 1:05:33Dillon Gilbertson: Wow, yeah.
- 1:05:34Tad Eggleston: art?
- 1:05:35Peter Eggleston Connor: Not Dodgers? That's great!
- 1:05:37Dillon Gilbertson: Let's move along.
- 1:05:38Peter Eggleston Connor: Duck Dodgers!
- 1:05:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Sorry, bad joke. Anyhow.
- 1:05:43Tad Eggleston: Another… Val Merrick has the back cover.
- 1:05:48Tad Eggleston: Another Chantel Montelier.
- 1:05:50Tad Eggleston: And a.
- 1:05:51Peter Eggleston Connor: rough.
- 1:05:52Tad Eggleston: Elric… Michael Moorcock's story.
- 1:05:55Dillon Gilbertson: Fuck was going on there? That was weird.
- 1:05:57Tad Eggleston: Soft landing looks kinda cool.
- 1:06:00Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, I remember… go back to soft landing, that's… that's, that's…
- 1:06:06Matt: It's such an awesome issue.
- 1:06:07Dillon Gilbertson: We can't go back, we have to just go forward, this is… this is all teaser.
- 1:06:11Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, this looks like an awesome issue. Sounds good. I was curious, it's fine.
- 1:06:16Dillon Gilbertson: Never. Be curious when you read it.
- 1:06:20Peter Eggleston Connor: Thanks, Ellen.
- 1:06:22Dillon Gilbertson: You're welcome, Peter.
- 1:06:24Peter Eggleston Connor: There you go.
- 1:06:27Tad Eggleston: There's your soft landing again.
- 1:06:30Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, it's like that one that we saw, where he, like, comes out of the sky and lands.
- 1:06:34Peter Eggleston Connor: But it's different.
- 1:06:36Matt: Well, that's been a common theme throughout heavy metal. It was in the movie, it's been in several issues.
- 1:06:43Peter Eggleston Connor: Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
- 1:06:44Peter Eggleston Connor: Alright.
- 1:06:46Peter Eggleston Connor: I was wondering if they had any, like, new.
- 1:06:48Tad Eggleston: Rogers looks kinda cool.
- 1:06:50Matt: It looks long, too, which is nice.
- 1:06:55Peter Eggleston Connor: We need another, like, Arabian Night story, or something.
- 1:07:00Matt: Hmm. Anything Corbin would be good.
- 1:07:02Tad Eggleston: I'm certain that there's more Den coming.
- 1:07:06Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, eventually.
- 1:07:10Peter Eggleston Connor: Grail War is a story, like, a prison story?
- 1:07:16Dillon Gilbertson: Fuck, this issue looks rad.
- 1:07:17Peter Eggleston Connor: Some pretty cool-looking art there.
- 1:07:21Tad Eggleston: The bus looks fun.
- 1:07:24Peter Eggleston Connor: Food.
- 1:07:24Dillon Gilbertson: I am excited to read.
- 1:07:25Peter Eggleston Connor: between… More stuff to read, like, read-read.
- 1:07:30Tad Eggleston: Or not.
- 1:07:31Peter Eggleston Connor: I wasn't saying we were gonna read it.
- 1:07:35Dillon Gilbertson: I'm gonna report back on Dragon World next time.
- 1:07:38Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, are… is that the second only connect in this issue?
- 1:07:43Tad Eggleston: I think maybe?
- 1:07:44Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I thought, so we get more Only Connect, that's cool.
- 1:07:48Dillon Gilbertson: Who knows, man.
- 1:07:49Peter Eggleston Connor: This one reminds me of Dracula. Oh, wait, no, this is that one that…
- 1:07:52Tad Eggleston: more telefield.
- 1:07:53Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah…
- 1:07:54Tad Eggleston: Huh.
- 1:07:55Peter Eggleston Connor: Is this the end of Telefield? I think they made mention in this one that we just read that Telefield wasn't in it, and we had to wait for the ending.
- 1:08:02Tad Eggleston: Possible.
- 1:08:04Peter Eggleston Connor: It might be the end of Telefield.
- 1:08:07Peter Eggleston Connor: Listeners, we might be ending Telefield soon. We'll find out.
- 1:08:11Tad Eggleston: Way, way back in 1979.
- 1:08:14Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, way back in 1970.
- 1:08:19Matt: Ulrich looks promising.
- 1:08:21Peter Eggleston Connor: Which looks promising?
- 1:08:23Matt: Elric? Yeah, we're looking at it right now.
- 1:08:24Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:08:25Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 1:08:27Tad Eggleston: Though, it's mostly text.
- 1:08:29Matt: Yeah, I'll re- I'll probably read this one, though.
- 1:08:32Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:08:34Peter Eggleston Connor: We'll see. I might graze the text and… You know, just… Check out the eye candy.
- 1:08:44Tad Eggleston: And we do.
- 1:08:45Peter Eggleston Connor: Like, go back a few… there's this… the weird one that reminds me of the one we saw in this issue, where, like, oh, it looks cool, but, like…
- 1:08:55Peter Eggleston Connor: And it's, like, all floaty, cloudy-looking stuff.
- 1:09:00Peter Eggleston Connor: Do you think?
- 1:09:01Tad Eggleston: It is, it is from the same…
- 1:09:03Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, same, same thing. Same, same.
- 1:09:05Peter Eggleston Connor: It's continuation of it?
- 1:09:07Tad Eggleston: No, I don't know if it's the same story, but it's the same.
- 1:09:11Peter Eggleston Connor: Same artist.
- 1:09:12Dillon Gilbertson: Go ahead.
- 1:09:13Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:09:13Peter Eggleston Connor: That's fair.
- 1:09:16Peter Eggleston Connor: That's fair, that's fair, that's fair, that's fair.
- 1:09:19Dillon Gilbertson: Right on.
- 1:09:19Tad Eggleston: Yeah, so it looks cool. We do have a metal Erlant that I can share out.
- 1:09:26Dillon Gilbertson: Mmm.
- 1:09:28Tad Eggleston: So…
- 1:09:30Dillon Gilbertson: Metal system.
- 1:09:33Tad Eggleston: We have options.
- 1:09:35Tad Eggleston: I, I definitely want to do this.
- 1:09:38Tad Eggleston: Look at that!
- 1:09:40Tad Eggleston: There, there was a collected New Tales of the Arabian Nights.
- 1:09:46Tad Eggleston: with a Harlan Ellison Introduction.
- 1:09:56Dillon Gilbertson: Cool.
- 1:09:57Tad Eggleston: One of my favorite heavy metal covers.
- 1:09:59Dillon Gilbertson: Looking forward to it.
- 1:10:01Matt: The back cover is sick.
- 1:10:03Tad Eggleston: I like the robot playing harmonica. The, like, funky robot.
- 1:10:08Matt: Elvis Funky Robot.
- 1:10:09Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:10:10Peter Eggleston Connor: Elvis Funky Robot.
- 1:10:13Tad Eggleston: Alright, Matt…
- 1:10:18Matt: We'll continue after the next page.
