- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists.
- 0:07Speaker 1: This week's roundtable is full of buskers.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Busking is the art of singing outside in a popular
- 0:16Speaker 2: public setting. It is spontaneous. It is a mixture of
- 0:20Speaker 2: professional and non-professional singers. All that we know for sure
- 0:24Speaker 2: is they are adding sound into the atmosphere.
- 0:28Speaker 3: People can busk in many different ways. But we have
- 0:32Speaker 3: decided to sit down with some people that busk in
- 0:34Speaker 3: a very interesting way.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 0:37Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 0:38Speaker 4: So pull out your old-ass guitar, throw your hat down,
- 0:42Speaker 4: hit a penny into the guitar case, and listen in. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 0:54Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Wow, wow, wow.
- 1:00Speaker 5: What are you playing? What do you guys want to play?
- 1:01Speaker 5: What are you on, G? G, I'm doing G. All right,
- 1:04Speaker 5: let's go. I'll be on G.
- 1:05Speaker 4: One, two, one, two, three, go. Wow. That works a
- 1:25Speaker 4: lot better than I thought it would. A lot better
- 1:28Speaker 4: than I thought it would.
- 1:29Speaker 5: Pretty good, everybody. We're actually hot as shit right now.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Unbelievable.
- 1:32Speaker 5: That is just amazing.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Welcome. Guys, it's so good to be indoors.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Can I say that? It's all about the music, man.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Can I say that?
- 1:45Speaker 4: It's all about the music.
- 1:47Speaker 3: You can't say it's good to be indoors, man.
- 1:50Speaker 5: It's not about the money.
- 1:51Speaker 4: And you're right.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It's all about the music.
- 1:53Speaker 3: It's not about the money.
- 1:54Speaker 4: It's about the music, man. It's not about the money.
- 1:56Speaker 5: If you make some money.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I don't know if this.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Is going up on YouTube or something, but put a
- 2:01Speaker 1: hat down in the link in the description below if
- 2:03Speaker 1: you want to put some dollars in there.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Yeah, come on, put it in.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Go ahead, walk on by, throw the dollar in the hat.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Hat emoji in the comments. Coin emoji in the comments.
- 2:12Speaker 4: But it's not about the money.
- 2:13Speaker 5: No, man, I'm not about this capitalist society, man. I'm
- 2:16Speaker 5: not here to make music for money, man.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I'm here to make music to live. But if you
- 2:22Speaker 4: do feel so inclined, please throw a penny or a
- 2:25Speaker 4: dollar in there. Feel free, feel free.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I thought about selling out. I'm sure we've all had
- 2:30Speaker 2: the thought. Maybe I'll make music like Dua Lipa, Britney Spears.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Coldplay.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Coldplay.
- 2:39Speaker 4: But no. No.
- 2:40Speaker 2: We're out in the streets. Streets. On the Santa Monica Pier.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Making music for people as they're going.
- 2:49Speaker 4: In the ocean. Music for people.
- 2:51Speaker 5: As they're going in the ocean.
- 2:52Speaker 2: As they're going in the ocean. Well, why don't we
- 2:56Speaker 2: introduce ourselves, say our name, a little bit about our song,
- 2:59Speaker 2: and what our whole thing is.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Well, why don't we introduce maybe the whole collective. I mean,
- 3:04Speaker 3: we are a collective of buskers. Some people lightly call
- 3:07Speaker 3: it a cult. A little bit, a little bit of cult.
- 3:10Speaker 2: We just call ourselves the Busboys.
- 3:12Speaker 4: We're the jesters of Ocean Avenue. That's what they call us.
- 3:16Speaker 6: There's a place on Ocean Avenue.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Love that song. That is a good one.
- 3:21Speaker 2: It made me think of a song.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I love that you're always thinking of songs. But yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 3: we are collective. We each drive our different RVs, kind
- 3:29Speaker 3: of up the coast, down the coast, the bus boys.
- 3:32Speaker 3: We love what we do. I wouldn't call us a
- 3:35Speaker 3: band because we all do our own acts at different
- 3:37Speaker 3: kind of corners. But we do travel together. So it's
- 3:41Speaker 3: this kind of beautiful, immersive community of artists where I
- 3:45Speaker 3: get to learn about art in such an ethereal way.
- 3:49Speaker 3: majestic way we're all.
- 3:51Speaker 6: A part of the same record label and I'd say
- 3:53Speaker 6: the label is God.
- 3:54Speaker 3: The label is God or the divine the divine I would.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Say it is we are a Christian God a group
- 4:01Speaker 4: of magnetic I would say eventually I think polyamorous artists.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Eventually once everybody gets okay with it you don't have
- 4:09Speaker 1: to say that.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I think we're well eventually everybody here is okay with
- 4:13Speaker 4: it but Destiny Destiny's a little not into it.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Just because you're all polyamorous doesn't mean you're all hooking
- 4:19Speaker 3: up That's.
- 4:19Speaker 4: What I'll say.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That's so true.
- 4:21Speaker 4: That's so true.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Guys, my name is Rosie Etheria Monmantra. And I play
- 4:33Speaker 2: the snare drum on Santa Monica Boulevard. Cut to the wide,
- 4:36Speaker 2: would you?
- 4:38Speaker 4: And that's a bass drum.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I play the bass drum on Santa Monica Boulevard. Thank
- 4:43Speaker 2: you for correcting me.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Cut to the wide, will ya?
- 4:45Speaker 3: And can you even see the drum in the wide?
- 4:47Speaker 4: Can you see the drum in the wide?
- 4:51Speaker 2: Well, then there asked and answered, I want.
- 4:54Speaker 4: To know if you can see the drum in the wine.
- 4:57Speaker 5: That's good.
- 4:58Speaker 7: I want to know, I want to know, have you
- 5:00Speaker 7: seen the drum in the wine?
- 5:03Speaker 2: Hey, listen, listen, listen, listen.
- 5:04Speaker 1: We're not doing this for money. We don't have a
- 5:07Speaker 1: hat down, so let's just give up the modernization rights now, huh?
- 5:10Speaker 5: Give it up. Give it up.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I know we don't like to do this a lot,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but I am wondering, should we just give that up
- 5:15Speaker 1: right now?
- 5:15Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Let's give it up mentally and hope that no one
- 5:19Speaker 5: catches on.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 5:21Speaker 2: We won't toggle the thing to the left.
- 5:22Speaker 3: In my head, I don't think we'll be close enough
- 5:24Speaker 3: for any sort of system to pick up what we're
- 5:27Speaker 3: singing today.
- 5:28Speaker 5: We'll find out, won't we?
- 5:29Speaker 6: No, no way.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Yes and you're no.
- 5:34Speaker 6: You're in and you're out.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Talking about in.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Down, down.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Wrong when it's right.
- 5:40Speaker 8: Right.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And it's white. White.
- 5:43Speaker 6: We break up.
- 5:44Speaker 4: We kiss.
- 5:45Speaker 2: We make up.
- 5:46Speaker 3: If there's anybody out there in a relationship that's going
- 5:48Speaker 3: through it, let us know.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Oh, you two. That's awesome. Congratulations. This part is for you.
- 6:12Speaker 4: You're in love. Unbelievable work. Unbelievable work. It's just song
- 6:19Speaker 4: to song to song.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's song to song to song. You know, you say something,
- 6:23Speaker 2: the song sparks you, you take it away. That's kind of...
- 6:26Speaker 2: The improvisational nature of busking. Sometimes a man walks by
- 6:30Speaker 2: and his outfit inspires a song. I saw a man
- 6:34Speaker 2: the other day. He was wearing his dog tags from
- 6:38Speaker 2: the military, and it made me think of a little
- 6:40Speaker 2: song of a little something that goes like this.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Come on.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
- 6:46Speaker 9: Why don't you tell.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Them what grade you're in?
- 6:59Speaker 4: Because that's amazing.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I'm in the 14th grade.
- 7:02Speaker 5: That's right.
- 7:03Speaker 4: The grade of life. The grade of life. I'm in
- 7:06Speaker 4: the 14th grade of life. And it's so crazy. I mean,
- 7:08Speaker 4: that's the beauty of things like that.
- 7:09Speaker 3: You can see dog tags and all of a sudden,
- 7:11Speaker 3: You're remembering the most famous song maybe in the history
- 7:14Speaker 3: of the world right now.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:17Speaker 4: You just remember out of the blue the most famous song.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Every stadium across the world. Out of the blue you
- 7:22Speaker 4: can remember a song. Where does that stuff come from?
- 7:25Speaker 5: The most popular songs and there's that guy.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I should introduce myself.
- 7:29Speaker 3: My name is Lapis Lazuli.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Lapis!
- 7:32Speaker 2: Lapis!
- 7:32Speaker 4: Lapis! Lazuli. I am a busker.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I've done busking now for about 10 to 15 years.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I won't tell you which one.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Are you counting not consecutive years?
- 7:46Speaker 3: Won't tell you. Life is a journey. Life is an ocean.
- 7:52Speaker 3: We're on all our different sailboats just sailing along. I'm
- 7:55Speaker 3: so lucky and happy to have connected my sailboat via
- 7:59Speaker 3: rope and ladder to a couple other buskers that think alike.
- 8:04Speaker 6: All you need is a rope and a ladder.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Oh, lapis. Oh, lapis. You're mooring us down, baby. You're
- 8:09Speaker 5: so grounded and earthy. We love you, man.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Thank you, brother.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Thank you so much. So yeah, my main instrument is
- 8:16Speaker 3: this thing, I would say.
- 8:18Speaker 4: The pipes. The neck. Little guitar here and there.
- 8:21Speaker 3: The neck of the guitar and the neck of my throat.
- 8:24Speaker 5: You know what's funny, man?
- 8:24Speaker 6: Double neck.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I don't want to tell on you, but it's funny
- 8:27Speaker 4: because it's so obvious you're really, really trying to get
- 8:30Speaker 4: on The Voice or American Idol because Sometimes you say, man,
- 8:33Speaker 4: this will be great. This will be a great story
- 8:35Speaker 4: for American Idol. I don't know if that's completely true,
- 8:38Speaker 4: but I mean.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah, you keep saying, this will be, we should get
- 8:41Speaker 2: some footage for my package.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know if that's true.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You do, you're always looking for a good spot with
- 8:47Speaker 1: good lighting, because you say it'll be a good hometown package.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Well, I don't know, I don't know.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And you're shooting it horizontal, so we know it's not
- 8:53Speaker 2: going on TikTok. No.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Oh, no, I don't know about that.
- 8:55Speaker 5: You always say, can we sing this song?
- 8:57Speaker 4: Do you think ABC would be able to get the
- 9:00Speaker 4: rights for this? I don't know.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:01Speaker 4: I don't know about that.
- 9:02Speaker 3: But I do always try to aim for, even though
- 9:06Speaker 3: we're busking, I am trying to constantly be discovered.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Because what else is there to busking?
- 9:10Speaker 3: Busking!
- 9:11Speaker 2: Hey!
- 9:12Speaker 4: Busking makes me feel good!
- 9:15Speaker 6: Oh, I was doing a different one.
- 9:16Speaker 3: We all landed on busking makes me feel good. Not
- 9:19Speaker 3: gonna fit in.
- 9:21Speaker 2: No, you are.
- 9:21Speaker 10: You are.
- 9:22Speaker 4: You fit in all the time.
- 9:23Speaker 5: You fit in more than I do.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Tell me your name. I'm Lazarus.
- 9:27Speaker 6: I am so excited to be here. I usually busk
- 9:31Speaker 6: in the countryside. That's why I say I don't fit
- 9:34Speaker 6: in sometimes, because I'm not really... fast enough for city.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Folk i'm a little slow i busk usually in the
- 9:40Speaker 1: mountainside it's.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Not the best area too i mean how many people
- 9:43Speaker 3: you've seen in the.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Mountains monetarily financially.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Just the amount of cars driving down a road or
- 9:49Speaker 4: people walking on a street.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I mean i don't see many a peep um and
- 9:53Speaker 1: busking for cars is.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Hard you gotta be good fast.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Especially on those windy highway.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Roads Roll down your window. Roll down.
- 10:01Speaker 6: And bring an amp. And amps are hard.
- 10:03Speaker 4: To busk with. Especially in mountains. No electricity plug-ins there.
- 10:06Speaker 1: But ever since I met these cats, Lapis and all
- 10:09Speaker 1: my buds. We've been doing covers together. We've been doing
- 10:12Speaker 1: duets together.
- 10:13Speaker 6: I love all of you.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Some originals that we sneak it in.
- 10:15Speaker 6: And some of that damn good polyamory. I love it.
- 10:19Speaker 6: And I'm great for it.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I love it.
- 10:20Speaker 4: I'm so great for it.
- 10:21Speaker 6: And I'm great for it. I'm great for it.
- 10:23Speaker 5: I mean, eventually, some say inevitably.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 6: I love pop songs.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I love playing the same four chords over and over again.
- 10:31Speaker 6: I think that's what makes me feel happy. So, yeah.
- 10:36Speaker 6: The four chords of love.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Name the chords, man.
- 10:39Speaker 6: The four chords of love. Communication. Melody.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Melody. Harmony. Harmony.
- 10:46Speaker 6: And good sex.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Wow.
- 10:49Speaker 2: And that is how to make it work.
- 10:51Speaker 4: G for good sex. Go ahead. Well, it looks like
- 10:58Speaker 4: it's my turn to introduce myself.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Go on, then.
- 11:01Speaker 6: You want a little backing?
- 11:02Speaker 11: Sure.
- 11:03Speaker 2: You want some backing from me? Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Jesus.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Sure, sure.
- 11:10Speaker 2: No, I'll let Lazarus.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Lazarus and Lapis. Lapis and Lazarus. And Rosie. And Rosie. Hello,
- 11:21Speaker 4: my children, my brothers, my sisters, my siblings of all kinds.
- 11:27Speaker 4: This is something that fell out of tune. How did
- 11:30Speaker 4: it fall out of tune so fast?
- 11:31Speaker 2: How did it fall?
- 11:33Speaker 4: It fell out of tune.
- 11:33Speaker 6: I'll tune while you talk.
- 11:34Speaker 5: That's what happens in the sun, by the way.
- 11:36Speaker 4: D turns to a G pretty fast in the Los
- 11:39Speaker 4: Angeles sun.
- 11:39Speaker 2: When you're on Ocean Avenue, sometimes the strum you hit
- 11:44Speaker 2: is a different one altogether.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Friends call me Copper Mountain Battener.
- 11:49Speaker 6: Copper!
- 11:51Speaker 4: Ever since I was little, I was really different. I
- 11:53Speaker 4: was wearing suspenders in second grade. And mind you, I
- 11:56Speaker 4: was going to school in Connecticut.
- 11:57Speaker 7: No.
- 11:58Speaker 5: I was different.
- 11:59Speaker 9: No.
- 11:59Speaker 5: I used to go by different names. I used to
- 12:01Speaker 5: go by Hayseed. I used to go by Pepito.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Pepito was wild. I was always different and always unique.
- 12:08Speaker 4: And I always led with an energy that said, what's
- 12:11Speaker 4: that guy going to do? And it turns out it's this.
- 12:14Speaker 6: It's weird to be on the pier with you.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Why?
- 12:16Speaker 6: Because so many people are saying each other's names. And
- 12:18Speaker 6: they're going, Dylan.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And you go, what?
- 12:20Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 12:20Speaker 6: And it's other people talking.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Because I've gone by so many names.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 4: You know, it's not surreptitious or shady in any way.
- 12:29Speaker 4: I choose different names based on who I am in
- 12:31Speaker 4: my life. One time I was somebody named Trash Can.
- 12:35Speaker 5: For a week.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Trash Can was wild.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Trash Can was a tough time in my life.
- 12:38Speaker 3: You were going through it. I mean, you just went
- 12:40Speaker 3: through that awful breakup where you broke up with 15
- 12:43Speaker 3: people consecutively.
- 12:44Speaker 5: It was kind of a.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Polydivorce.
- 12:47Speaker 5: It was a polydivorce. It was 15 people at the
- 12:49Speaker 5: same time. A polycatastrophe. They kicked me out of the polycule.
- 12:53Speaker 4: No.
- 12:53Speaker 5: And so it was a 15-person breakup.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Oh, well, you hate to hear that. Did each of
- 12:57Speaker 3: them sit... separately with you or was it one just kind.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Of group yeah well so we did four or five
- 13:03Speaker 4: and then i said all right if we're all gonna
- 13:05Speaker 4: do this can everyone just come in because i didn't
- 13:07Speaker 4: want to do one by one if i knew it
- 13:08Speaker 4: was all good the writing was it's hard that out
- 13:11Speaker 4: of 15 not one of them wanted to stay with
- 13:13Speaker 4: you that's hard it's tough but i wish them all
- 13:16Speaker 4: well and i heard they're into making jam now and
- 13:19Speaker 4: i'm jealous.
- 13:20Speaker 5: How'd you hear it I heard it through, well.
- 13:23Speaker 6: The grapevine.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And I know you'll be mine.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Baby, baby, I heard it. So something that does keep
- 13:32Speaker 4: accidentally happening is I keep blowing into the microphone. Because
- 13:35Speaker 4: I keep losing this.
- 13:37Speaker 5: So you do hear that.
- 13:39Speaker 3: That's somebody who doesn't use a mic.
- 13:40Speaker 2: I'm sorry to the misophobes out there.
- 13:42Speaker 10: I keep doing this.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I keep going.
- 13:43Speaker 5: You are not going to hear what you.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Want to hear.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And maybe the editor can go back and show that.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Maybe in like a nice little.
- 13:49Speaker 6: I can't wait to.
- 13:53Speaker 5: I'm not used to talking, man. I speak with my melodica. No,
- 13:56Speaker 5: it's tough.
- 13:57Speaker 4: It's tough.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Would you believe it? I'm completely untrained.
- 14:01Speaker 4: I just listened to it. Would you believe that?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Would you believe untrained on the melodica?
- 14:05Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Watch me. Play us something. That's not possible.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Don't believe me. Just watch.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I can see how you're untrained. I love it.
- 14:21Speaker 6: It sounds like weird music when you're walking.
- 14:23Speaker 3: It kind of sounds like a toy that you give
- 14:27Speaker 3: to a three-year-old.
- 14:28Speaker 4: It does sound like it.
- 14:29Speaker 6: But I'll tell you this.
- 14:30Speaker 1: That's the best part about busking is you don't need
- 14:32Speaker 1: to sustain anything for too long.
- 14:33Speaker 6: It's people walking by.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Just can I say the great gift of busking that
- 14:38Speaker 2: Mother Earth and Mother Gaia gave to us is that
- 14:41Speaker 2: people's expectations are rock low. They are rock bottom.
- 14:47Speaker 3: If you can bring them anything entertaining, even slightly, they
- 14:50Speaker 3: will be overjoyed and overwhelmed.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Exactly. If you supersede their expectations, then they want to...
- 14:57Speaker 2: It's also the music is a moment to... It's an
- 15:00Speaker 2: invitation to start a conversation with a stranger. I mean,
- 15:03Speaker 2: I can't tell you how many... long conversations I've had
- 15:07Speaker 2: with strangers who've just stopped by to go, hey, I
- 15:11Speaker 2: like the rhythm of that song. What is that song?
- 15:14Speaker 2: And then I tell them, and then, I don't know,
- 15:16Speaker 2: maybe we go out for a drink or something.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Does that happen a lot to you, Rosie?
- 15:20Speaker 2: It happens a lot to me.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Wowee, Rosie.
- 15:22Speaker 2: It happens a lot to me.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Well, because you're doing a lot of spoken song, which
- 15:26Speaker 3: I like. You're taking people that walk by and kind
- 15:28Speaker 3: of telling a story, kind of like Jewel used to.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Do when she used to busk.
- 15:32Speaker 3: See somebody and come up with a whole story about
- 15:35Speaker 3: their life in just a couple seconds.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Yeah, with just me and my bass drum. Like, if
- 15:39Speaker 2: I'm walking, like, take that man over there. That PA
- 15:43Speaker 2: walking down there. He's dressed in stage blacks. Stage blacks.
- 15:49Speaker 3: This is good.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Hey there, man.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Looking at your stage blacks. Hey there, man. Hey there, man.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Looking at your stage blacks. Hey there. You've got so.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Many.
- 16:00Speaker 5: A beautiful full story.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Hey there, man. Hey there, man. Look at your stage blacks.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Hey there, man. Hey there.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Now, easy now. It was not that rhythmic.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Come on. Do somebody else, Rosie. Do somebody else. Easy now.
- 16:25Speaker 5: It was rougher.
- 16:26Speaker 3: What about the photographer right there wearing that chicken board?
- 16:28Speaker 4: Oh, the photographer.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Hey there, man. The photographer holding that camera. What's he
- 16:34Speaker 2: looking for? What you looking for in your photographer? When
- 16:38Speaker 2: you're a photographer, it's almost like the glasses. But your glasses,
- 16:41Speaker 2: they're a camera. Your glasses, they're a memory. A memory
- 16:45Speaker 2: that lasts forever. You could put it in a picture
- 16:47Speaker 2: book or an aura frame or an iPhone camera roll.
- 16:50Speaker 2: That's a photographer.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Wow, I love how the drum got louder and I
- 16:53Speaker 4: almost had a panic attack. So important, the glasses are
- 16:57Speaker 4: a memory.
- 16:59Speaker 1: If I'm that photographer and I'm walking by, I feel seen.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Heard, and loved. And I'm speeding up my walk.
- 17:05Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I will say, I think I love my bass girl.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I love my bass. My bass, I call her Jerry Seinfeld,
- 17:13Speaker 2: my bass.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Your bass girl?
- 17:15Speaker 5: Your bass girl.
- 17:16Speaker 6: You call her Jerry Seinfeld?
- 17:18Speaker 2: I call her Jerry Seinfeld. I bring her with me
- 17:20Speaker 2: everywhere in my busking career. But I will say she
- 17:23Speaker 2: intimidates some people, you know? The resonance is... It's tough
- 17:27Speaker 2: for some people to hear, especially when people are, you know,
- 17:31Speaker 2: maybe they take a little bit of mushroom, a little
- 17:34Speaker 2: bit of marijuana on the beach. They're walking around and
- 17:38Speaker 2: they hear this sort of booming heartbeat.
- 17:41Speaker 4: It's tribal.
- 17:42Speaker 3: It's tribal.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Some people aren't ready to address what's in their heart,
- 17:47Speaker 2: but the bass gets to the brute of what's in
- 17:50Speaker 2: your heart.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Get to the broody. What's in your heart?
- 17:52Speaker 2: That's what I said.
- 17:53Speaker 4: I mean, what's crazy, too, is we all come from
- 17:56Speaker 4: such different schools of love and music. I'm the classic
- 17:59Speaker 4: Bob Dylan guy. I'm also kind of a Bell and
- 18:01Speaker 4: Sebastian guy because I have a lot of guys.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Well, that's what I was going to ask. I mean,
- 18:06Speaker 3: who's everybody's biggest icon? And why is it Mumford & Sons?
- 18:11Speaker 4: Why is it the Lumineers? Why is it Jason Mraz?
- 18:15Speaker 5: They were buskers first, man. They came from the culture.
- 18:18Speaker 3: They came from the culture. Simon Cowell was a busker.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Simon Cowell, was he busking notes?
- 18:23Speaker 6: Busk judging.
- 18:24Speaker 5: He was busk judging.
- 18:25Speaker 4: He was busk judging. I think I found an old
- 18:28Speaker 4: clip of him on YouTube we could play. Okay.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Busk judging in London.
- 18:32Speaker 10: Wow.
- 18:33Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Cape walking. Bad walk.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Excuse me?
- 18:37Speaker 4: Bad walk.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I'm just walking to work.
- 18:40Speaker 4: It's a bad walk.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Well, fuck you, man.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Hey, you're going to Hollywood.
- 18:44Speaker 5: 25 cents in your hat.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Wow, that was an interesting clip.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Really interesting clip.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Really old. Blackberry Pearl.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Give me more Gordon Ramsay if I'm being honest.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Everyone has busked. I've seen people busk and do all
- 19:07Speaker 1: kinds of towns.
- 19:08Speaker 3: It's not about the music always. It's about the busk,
- 19:10Speaker 3: the art of entertainment.
- 19:12Speaker 4: The purest art of entertainment.
- 19:14Speaker 3: How are you going to get eyes long enough to
- 19:16Speaker 3: get a scent? It's not about the money. It's about
- 19:19Speaker 3: the interaction.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Have you seen the bus podcasters?
- 19:22Speaker 5: Oh, the bus podcasters.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Oh, those guys who are sitting there offering hot takes
- 19:27Speaker 2: about the difference between New York and L.A.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And it's hard to know the difference because you go,
- 19:30Speaker 1: are those two just sitting on a bench?
- 19:32Speaker 4: Yeah, are they podcasting? Or are they busking? Well, they're
- 19:35Speaker 4: talking into ice cream cones, so you just know it's
- 19:37Speaker 4: not a real podcast. There might be a mic on that.
- 19:41Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 19:43Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't think you can put a
- 19:44Speaker 5: mic in ice cream. In L.A.
- 19:46Speaker 1: These days, you can't just walk by a bench and
- 19:48Speaker 1: think it's just two people on a bench at Cooper.
- 19:50Speaker 4: A podcast. It could be a musical.
- 19:51Speaker 6: It could be a short film.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Well, that's what we have to talk about. I mean,
- 19:53Speaker 3: the TikTokification of busking. Busking has moved into the online space,
- 20:00Speaker 3: and it's become more about the modern-day busk is the
- 20:06Speaker 3: NPC role-playing online.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Have you seen this?
- 20:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I have.
- 20:11Speaker 2: The modern day bus?
- 20:12Speaker 4: Can you explain that to me?
- 20:13Speaker 5: Like a weird French girl? Think about it.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Explain it to me.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Because on TikTok, they have this option where you can donate.
- 20:20Speaker 3: You can donate, and people play NPCs for donations.
- 20:23Speaker 6: Live, when they're live.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Oh, yes.
- 20:25Speaker 4: You're talking about that girl, like Pussycat Doll or whatever.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and the guy who pretends to be Spider-Man. I mean,
- 20:30Speaker 3: there's a whole culture. of these people online. And that's
- 20:34Speaker 3: the modern day buzz.
- 20:35Speaker 4: I've never thought about that. And I just thought about
- 20:37Speaker 4: it right now.
- 20:38Speaker 6: I'm genuinely moved by that.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Have you seen those, when the people are under a
- 20:42Speaker 3: giant water balloon, they're like, no, no, no, no, don't donate.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Don't donate, it'll pop. That's a modern day buzz.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Or I love seeing like a man in the middle
- 20:52Speaker 1: of the night just singing people who put their name
- 20:54Speaker 1: in the comments.
- 20:56Speaker 4: With a, yeah, with a thing.
- 20:57Speaker 6: With a thing. We could do it these days.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Like it's, it's, It's a beautiful way that busking is
- 21:03Speaker 1: going to transfer to the algorithm.
- 21:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:05Speaker 4: It's nice to know it's not going away because busking
- 21:08Speaker 4: at its heart is a very human thing, man. I mean,
- 21:11Speaker 4: does anyone have any moments that they've realized that they're
- 21:13Speaker 4: changing the world by their busking?
- 21:16Speaker 8: Oh, man.
- 21:18Speaker 4: None come to mind.
- 21:19Speaker 5: All right, all good. We can move on.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I think it's less about feeling like you're changing the world,
- 21:24Speaker 1: but you're more just.
- 21:26Speaker 6: Adding a smile to someone's face for a second.
- 21:29Speaker 4: That feels like.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Changing the world.
- 21:30Speaker 4: That's what I meant.
- 21:31Speaker 5: You know what? Play me in.
- 21:35Speaker 6: What do you want?
- 21:35Speaker 3: Because there was this one lady one time. And I
- 21:40Speaker 3: was busking on the side of the highway.
- 21:43Speaker 6: I gotta tune this thing.
- 21:47Speaker 4: That's the one that's wrong, yeah?
- 21:50Speaker 3: Lady walking on the side of the highway Lost her shoes, lost.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Her place in life So it doesn't work.
- 22:00Speaker 3: It doesn't really work if we're disconnected like that.
- 22:03Speaker 4: What just happened? What just happened?
- 22:05Speaker 2: Why we don't play together?
- 22:07Speaker 6: No, I'd say what just happened was distance too close.
- 22:09Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 22:10Speaker 6: We busk all the time together, but far away.
- 22:12Speaker 3: That was when you accidentally, a little too close and
- 22:15Speaker 3: you hear two buskers doing two different things.
- 22:17Speaker 6: And if it's a little too close... I got to
- 22:19Speaker 6: tune that.
- 22:20Speaker 2: We are very specifically not a band. And there's a
- 22:23Speaker 2: reason for that.
- 22:24Speaker 5: We're not a band.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Because, you know, we play our best when we are
- 22:28Speaker 2: exchanging glances as coworkers from down on 3rd Street Promenade,
- 22:32Speaker 2: different ends. We're at different ends talking to each other.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Truly.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And I think sometimes we'll go, just like how there's a,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I saw on The Pit recently, I watch The Pit sometimes.
- 22:42Speaker 4: You can't watch The Pit.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Too capitalist for me.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 22:44Speaker 6: Well, I'll say that sometimes there's bleed.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Right?
- 22:47Speaker 6: There's a bleed. There's a clot.
- 22:49Speaker 1: And I'd say sometimes we walk in between our buskin
- 22:52Speaker 1: stations and we go, there's bleed here.
- 22:54Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Like just now there was a bleed there and the
- 22:56Speaker 1: sound went into that and it wasn't a collab. You
- 22:58Speaker 1: don't want on accident collabs. You only want purposeful collabs.
- 23:02Speaker 5: We're like a, you.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Know, changing the channels, city block version. You walk past
- 23:09Speaker 4: one person, he's playing Mumford and Sons. You walk past
- 23:12Speaker 4: another person, he's playing Kings of Leon. You walk past
- 23:14Speaker 4: another person, they're playing.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Sonder. All these people, they're very, very different.
- 23:23Speaker 2: It's a beautiful tapestry. Can I ask you guys, what's
- 23:27Speaker 2: your technique for asking people respectfully to tip? When people
- 23:32Speaker 2: stand around for a long time and they've clearly listened
- 23:36Speaker 2: and enjoyed to a song.
- 23:37Speaker 3: The funny tip. Play the funny tip. And if you
- 23:40Speaker 3: want to, my hat is empty. I have some phrases.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Wasn't trying to wear this one on my head. I say,
- 23:47Speaker 3: if your pockets feel heavy, I'll take care of that.
- 23:50Speaker 2: That's good.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Do one that you did on there.
- 23:54Speaker 3: What?
- 23:55Speaker 6: Put your fingers on there.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Oh, that's beautiful. Yeah, let's do a little bit of this.
- 24:01Speaker 6: Hat empty.
- 24:02Speaker 8: Hat empty.
- 24:03Speaker 6: Hat empty.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Let me get in on this.
- 24:12Speaker 4: A minor E.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Hat is empty on the ground. Fill it up, make
- 24:23Speaker 3: your old man proud. Hat is empty on the ground.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Fill it up, make your old man proud.
- 24:52Speaker 2: If your hat feels empty, put something in it.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Your hat feels empty, put something in it.
- 25:00Speaker 13: If your hat feels empty, put something in it.
- 25:04Speaker 4: If your hat feels empty, put something in it. Hat
- 25:11Speaker 4: empty on the ground. Make your old man proud.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Head empty on the ground.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Head still empty.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Wow, that would be so good, guys. We got to
- 25:31Speaker 3: film that.
- 25:31Speaker 4: That's good. We got to film that. That would be great.
- 25:34Speaker 4: What were you going to say.
- 25:35Speaker 6: At the end of that? Were you inspired by something?
- 25:37Speaker 4: I don't remember.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I'm just happy to be here.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Oh, my God. Rosie.
- 25:41Speaker 2: This is what life is all about, right? Would you
- 25:44Speaker 2: say so?
- 25:45Speaker 1: Y'all ever have a toddler come in and kick your
- 25:49Speaker 1: hat off?
- 25:49Speaker 3: Toddlers are Satan's little minions.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Parents think that kids are cute all the time. They're
- 25:54Speaker 4: not cute to us, man.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Three to five is the worst age to bust for
- 25:58Speaker 3: unless they know a song that they want to sing.
- 26:01Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 26:02Speaker 3: And if you can sing with that kid.
- 26:04Speaker 8: Oh.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Millions of dollars.
- 26:06Speaker 6: This is what I do if I see a kid coming.
- 26:08Speaker 6: Either I take a deep breath or.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Baby shark, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo. Baby shark, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
- 26:18Speaker 6: Baby shark, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Baby shark. Baby shark, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
- 26:25Speaker 6: Baby shark, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Okay, can I say.
- 26:30Speaker 4: The first note is.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Always you guessing. It takes a minute.
- 26:37Speaker 5: You find it. But God, do I love the coming
- 26:40Speaker 5: on your songs. Of course, man.
- 26:42Speaker 4: It's beautiful. Look, I wanted to remind you guys I'm
- 26:45Speaker 4: completely untrained.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Sometimes you make... Beautiful contact, and sometimes you swing and miss.
- 26:53Speaker 5: Well, look, man.
- 26:54Speaker 4: What is life if not trying things and then never
- 26:57Speaker 4: doing them again?
- 26:58Speaker 5: Amen to that.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Do you ever.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Play anything different if it's kids? That's what I play
- 27:02Speaker 1: for kids. Do you ever do anything different for old people?
- 27:05Speaker 4: Do you see a school go by?
- 27:07Speaker 6: Any trips, tricks, and tips?
- 27:09Speaker 5: Yeah, schools go by. I try to do that 50
- 27:12Speaker 5: state song.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Alabama.
- 27:12Speaker 5: Play it, play it.
- 27:17Speaker 4: All right, here we go.
- 27:18Speaker 5: I'll do both.
- 27:22Speaker 6: No, it's not the mic problem. He just needs two mouths.
- 27:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 27:43Speaker 6: I'm a school kid walking by.
- 27:44Speaker 5: What would you do?
- 27:48Speaker 4: I'm stopping. I'm going, I'm staying in school.
- 27:52Speaker 5: I need to film this.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I need to know what's going on.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Is this man medically in danger?
- 27:57Speaker 4: You know what's funny is I frequently get, instead of tips,
- 28:01Speaker 4: business cards of doctors.
- 28:04Speaker 5: It's so fun.
- 28:04Speaker 2: You know, that's never the group you want to be
- 28:06Speaker 2: networking with.
- 28:07Speaker 5: No, I don't love it.
- 28:07Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 28:08Speaker 4: But they go, hey, I saw you from across the
- 28:10Speaker 4: room and I think you could use my help.
- 28:11Speaker 2: You know, when old people walk by, I typically go
- 28:15Speaker 2: for some Sinatra.
- 28:18Speaker 6: On Jerry Seinfeld.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Some bass drum Sinatra.
- 28:21Speaker 6: You went about Jerry Seinfeld.
- 28:23Speaker 5: You went about Mrs.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Jerry Seinfeld and you go for some Sinatra.
- 28:27Speaker 11: I went about Mrs.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Jerry Seinfeld and I play some Sinatra.
- 28:31Speaker 4: I can't wait for this. That's life.
- 28:34Speaker 9: Oh.
- 28:36Speaker 6: This won't get flagged at all.
- 28:37Speaker 1: That's not it.
- 28:37Speaker 2: That's not it.
- 28:38Speaker 4: That's not it.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Somewhere.
- 28:41Speaker 3: No, that's not it.
- 28:41Speaker 6: Bobby Darin.
- 28:42Speaker 3: That's Bobby Darin.
- 28:43Speaker 2: That's amore.
- 28:45Speaker 4: When the moon. Okay, no, that's not it.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I think that's Dean Mark.
- 28:47Speaker 4: That's not him.
- 28:47Speaker 2: That's not him.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Maybe The Way You Look Tonight.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Fly me to the moon.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Nowhere to hold me. And the way you look tonight.
- 28:59Speaker 4: Jerry Seinfeld is excited. That's a rapid beat for that song.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Every quarter note. I felt like I was on a train.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Every quarter note.
- 29:10Speaker 3: I love that.
- 29:12Speaker 4: You never hit the bass notes. You're just hitting every
- 29:14Speaker 4: note with the bass.
- 29:14Speaker 2: I'm hitting every note.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Every note.
- 29:27Speaker 2: You know, people think a bass can't do a lot
- 29:30Speaker 2: of things, but it can do more than you think
- 29:32Speaker 2: it can.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Like what?
- 29:34Speaker 2: Well.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Some of your poetry is my favorite. is some of
- 29:37Speaker 3: your poetry.
- 29:37Speaker 5: Whip this thing out show us the real.
- 29:39Speaker 3: We all have like our own we should stop doing
- 29:41Speaker 3: covers and maybe do some of our original music I
- 29:44Speaker 3: mean we've all tried to release EPs.
- 29:46Speaker 1: It's harder to grab people I'll say it of course
- 29:48Speaker 1: I'll be first to say it I do feel like
- 29:49Speaker 1: sometimes to sell out because if I got If I'm
- 29:54Speaker 1: trying to make music and make people turn, it's hard
- 29:57Speaker 1: to do it with an original track.
- 29:58Speaker 3: But I think your track is the most beautiful gift
- 30:01Speaker 3: Gaya can give us.
- 30:02Speaker 2: I think all of our original tracks.
- 30:05Speaker 4: I love our music, man.
- 30:06Speaker 5: I want to share it with the world.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I want to hear it all. I want to hear
- 30:09Speaker 4: all of them.
- 30:09Speaker 5: I want to hear every single one of our original tracks.
- 30:12Speaker 4: Let's do it.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Let's start from the number one on each of our EPs.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Name what your EP is and then talk about it.
- 30:18Speaker 2: All right, so this is an EP I called Ryan.
- 30:21Speaker 2: This was my ex-boyfriend, Ryan. We consciously uncoupled not six
- 30:26Speaker 2: months ago, and this was a poem I wrote about
- 30:28Speaker 2: the night he left me. No note on the door.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Will you please leave the house? Note on the door.
- 30:42Speaker 6: You can hear her crying.
- 30:45Speaker 2: To the wood on the door.
- 30:47Speaker 4: It says, I'm leaving.
- 30:50Speaker 2: It says I'm leaving tonight because you don't have any
- 30:54Speaker 2: money and you don't pay the rent for the house
- 30:58Speaker 2: that we split because you are always at the beach.
- 31:02Speaker 4: The beach. The beach. The beach. I'm gone.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Wow.
- 31:08Speaker 5: That was gothic. That was amazing.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Can I say something? It did sound like you unconsciously decoupled.
- 31:16Speaker 5: It doesn't sound conscious.
- 31:18Speaker 6: I think it was pretty conscious.
- 31:19Speaker 2: So we had a lot of conversations, so many conversations.
- 31:22Speaker 4: It sounds like you.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Were unconscious when he left.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Can I say, I think you need to put that
- 31:28Speaker 1: song on TikTok.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I think it'll do numbers. That's going to do numbers.
- 31:33Speaker 4: He's at the beach. I'm gone.

- 36:44Speaker 4: That's so beautiful. That's so good to jam.
- 36:47Speaker 2: That's so good to jam.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Can I ask you guys something?
- 36:50Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Look, I know we're all wandering spirits, wayward souls.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Oh, I'm going to.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Gaia protectors and followers but um yeah do you guys
- 37:00Speaker 3: have dreams i mean when you wake up at night
- 37:04Speaker 3: when look up at the stars what do you think
- 37:07Speaker 3: in your life gonna be like where do you want.
- 37:09Speaker 4: To end up you know i met a man in
- 37:11Speaker 4: reno who said that dreams are simply memories that somebody
- 37:15Speaker 4: else had wait so you didn't dream of.
- 37:21Speaker 6: It So who do they belong to?
- 37:24Speaker 4: What do they belong to?
- 37:25Speaker 5: Wait, what?
- 37:26Speaker 4: What are you talking about?
- 37:28Speaker 1: I just memories somebody else's hat.
- 37:32Speaker 4: So what do you mean dreams?
- 37:34Speaker 3: I just memories somebody else's hat.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Sorry to stop telling, but what?
- 37:41Speaker 5: I've never heard something like that.
- 37:43Speaker 10: Before in my life.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Dreams are just Somebody else had.
- 37:48Speaker 5: Don't push it, man.
- 37:49Speaker 4: I mean, it makes sense.
- 37:51Speaker 5: And don't question it. I got it tattooed.
- 37:55Speaker 13: I don't want to think about it.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Keep going. What did this man make you think about.
- 38:02Speaker 6: Your own dreams?
- 38:03Speaker 4: Well, he made me think that they were the dreams
- 38:07Speaker 4: of a coal miner in the old 40s.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Dreams of a man who.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I think so.
- 38:15Speaker 5: Wait, sorry. There were memories.
- 38:16Speaker 13: That made me realize that when I was dreaming about
- 38:21Speaker 13: being a coal miner in the 40s, I was actually
- 38:24Speaker 13: having the memory of a man who lived in the 40s.
- 38:27Speaker 3: So you were just talking about some weird premonitions you had.
- 38:30Speaker 2: So you are dreaming about the past, and you think
- 38:33Speaker 2: that's actually a memory of someone in the past?
- 38:36Speaker 5: Dreams are just memories somebody else had.
- 38:38Speaker 6: Explain it again. Do you have another version of it?
- 38:41Speaker 5: I think you're having some sort of... Past life regression.
- 38:44Speaker 4: I had a dream that my teeth were falling out,
- 38:46Speaker 4: and I left home in my underwear. Oh, my God.
- 38:49Speaker 2: And that's somebody's memory.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Turns out that's the memory of somebody whose teeth fell out,
- 38:53Speaker 4: and they left home in their underwear.
- 38:55Speaker 5: I was just in their shoes, man. The man.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Man, that's beautiful.
- 39:00Speaker 5: Don't hold me down.
- 39:00Speaker 4: That's so beautiful.
- 39:01Speaker 5: Man, that's beautiful. So that's how I see dreams and
- 39:04Speaker 5: where I'm about to be.
- 39:05Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Rosie, what about you?
- 39:07Speaker 2: What do I dream about?
- 39:09Speaker 10: Well.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I dream that one day, after I'm done with this
- 39:14Speaker 2: crazy life, after I'm done with this crazy lifestyle, I
- 39:21Speaker 2: post up on a farm in Big Sur, on the
- 39:25Speaker 2: coastal part. I sit down with my three kids. two chickens,
- 39:31Speaker 2: two cows, one pig and one nasty goat. And I
- 39:36Speaker 2: bake the eggs the chickens laid for me, not that
- 39:39Speaker 2: early morning.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Bake them in the oven.
- 39:42Speaker 2: I bake them in the oven.
- 39:44Speaker 12: You bake the eggs.
- 39:45Speaker 6: You bake the eggs.
- 39:47Speaker 4: You bake the eggs. Rosie's baking eggs.
- 39:50Speaker 2: So is that like a frittata? No, so it's just
- 39:55Speaker 2: the eggs. It's not a quiche. It's not a frittata.
- 39:58Speaker 2: It's not scrambled. It's not over easy. It's not over hard.
- 40:00Speaker 2: It's not over medium.
- 40:01Speaker 4: It's not poached.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Then what is it? It's its own thing, dude.
- 40:04Speaker 5: You're kind of boiling them weird.
- 40:07Speaker 4: There are no rules.
- 40:09Speaker 2: You crack them in a baking sheet. You stick them
- 40:11Speaker 2: in a pan. It's like one layer of lasagna except
- 40:15Speaker 2: just the pasta part.
- 40:18Speaker 4: It's been playing the mic again.
- 40:20Speaker 5: I'm sorry.
- 40:21Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Keep going. The future could be so beautiful.
- 40:23Speaker 3: And who do you see married to, Rosie, with your
- 40:25Speaker 3: two kids? Three kids, two chickens, one nasty goat.
- 40:29Speaker 2: I see myself married to the man of my dreams.
- 40:34Speaker 2: He's a man who works at the Sweetgreen across the
- 40:36Speaker 2: street on 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Every day
- 40:41Speaker 2: when he's walking into his shift, I try and sing
- 40:43Speaker 2: a song about him. But he won't look my way.
- 40:46Speaker 3: How's that song go, Rosie?
- 40:49Speaker 2: Song goes, a little something like this. I'll play it
- 40:52Speaker 2: on old Jerry Seinfeld. Solid boy!
- 40:56Speaker 4: Solid boy!
- 40:58Speaker 2: Come get your wife! Solid boy!
- 41:03Speaker 5: Oh, so beautiful, Rosie.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Where does that music come from within you? Rosie, Rosie, Rosie. Rosie,
- 41:11Speaker 4: it's so beautiful. Rosie, it's so beautiful.
- 41:18Speaker 5: So beautiful, Rosie. We know that's just the intro, Rosie.
- 41:21Speaker 2: We know that's just the intro, no problem.
- 41:23Speaker 4: We'll go to the bridge.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Leaves on your hands, in your apron, but no woman,
- 41:32Speaker 2: no woman nearby.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Get your woman.
- 41:36Speaker 4: It's me. I'm her.
- 41:37Speaker 8: It's me.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Take me home, salad boy, salad man.
- 41:43Speaker 6: You've got to make theater, Rosie.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Rosie, that's coming straight from the gut.
- 41:47Speaker 5: Definitely Bob Marley influence.
- 41:49Speaker 4: It's coming from your gut.
- 41:51Speaker 2: I always say I don't sing from the heart. I
- 41:53Speaker 2: sing from the lower stomach.
- 41:55Speaker 6: Because it is one tempo and one tempo only.
- 41:58Speaker 4: It's one note. Bob Marley sang No Woman, No Cry.
- 42:02Speaker 3: But Rosie sang No Woman, Come Get Her.
- 42:08Speaker 4: That's beautiful. What about you?
- 42:10Speaker 2: What are your dreams? What do you dream about?
- 42:14Speaker 4: Lazarus.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Lazarus, you have to have a dream. Or at the
- 42:18Speaker 2: very least, somebody else's memory.
- 42:23Speaker 11: I dream of one day when all the buskers could
- 42:28Speaker 11: play a festival.
- 42:30Speaker 7: Wow.
- 42:32Speaker 11: We stand around.
- 42:33Speaker 3: What?
- 42:38Speaker 11: We stand around together like a burning man.
- 42:42Speaker 6: But all along the streets.
- 42:45Speaker 11: And people drive down the road. And there will be
- 42:49Speaker 11: an orchestra of some sorts. A busker's, no bleed, just harmony.
- 43:00Speaker 7: Sweet, sweet polyamory.
- 43:05Speaker 4: Oh.
- 43:08Speaker 7: Sweet, sweet, sweet polyamory.
- 43:16Speaker 6: It's got the melody, the harmony, the punchiness. And good sex.
- 43:23Speaker 11: Cause it's sweet, sweet, sweet polyamory.
- 43:32Speaker 6: Now play.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Come on. God, it's good jamming. It's good jamming. What
- 43:43Speaker 4: a beautiful jam. I love to jam with you. I

- 44:59Speaker 5: The salary man.
- 45:00Speaker 4: The salary man goes in. Which is different from the
- 45:03Speaker 4: salad man. The salary man.
- 45:04Speaker 5: The salary man. He goes in and out in his suit.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Come on.
- 45:10Speaker 1: The salary man is friends with the record label man.
- 45:13Speaker 3: And he goes in with his suit.
- 45:17Speaker 2: The salary man is friends with the politician man.
- 45:21Speaker 4: He goes in with his suit. The salary man is
- 45:25Speaker 4: friends with the accounting man.
- 45:27Speaker 5: They're punching the money.
- 45:30Speaker 4: They're taking the tab. They're walking on in with their suits. Quick,
- 45:35Speaker 4: the tempo's changing. The salaryman don't know what's happening in
- 45:38Speaker 4: the streets. The salaryman must never go to the streets.
- 45:42Speaker 3: No, it's illegal for the salaryman to be on the streets.
- 45:47Speaker 2: The salaryman don't breathe fresh air. The salaryman breathe only AC.
- 45:50Speaker 2: The salaryman is only him, only him, never alone.
- 45:53Speaker 8: Salaryman.
- 45:56Speaker 4: Salaryman.
- 45:57Speaker 6: Salaryman!
- 45:59Speaker 4: Salaryman!
- 46:01Speaker 2: Salaryman!
- 46:02Speaker 8: Salaryman!
- 46:03Speaker 2: Salaryman!
- 46:04Speaker 3: Salaryman!
- 46:06Speaker 4: Salaryman!
- 46:08Speaker 2: Salaryman only cares about the money.
- 46:13Speaker 4: Good, it's jam. God, it feels good to jam. We've
- 46:18Speaker 4: never jammed before, Rosie. You guys have never jammed.
- 46:21Speaker 8: You know what?
- 46:22Speaker 4: I don't know how you guys have never jammed. They
- 46:25Speaker 4: said you could. How on earth have we never jammed before?
- 46:27Speaker 5: They said we medically couldn't.
- 46:28Speaker 4: They said you never could.
- 46:30Speaker 5: They said if we did, we'd die.
- 46:32Speaker 4: We wouldn't even hurt.
- 46:33Speaker 2: You did.
- 46:33Speaker 1: I want to know, if anyone gave you the opportunity
- 46:37Speaker 1: to get off the street and sing and sing inside,
- 46:40Speaker 1: what would you sing?
- 46:42Speaker 4: I would be so confused.
- 46:43Speaker 6: I wouldn't know what to do.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Because what do you do inside? What is there to
- 46:46Speaker 3: sing about?
- 46:47Speaker 5: I mean, what's it even sound like in there?
- 46:48Speaker 1: I'm not saying that buskers don't know what to do
- 46:51Speaker 1: when they go inside a record label.
- 46:53Speaker 4: It's just us. It's just that we don't know. I
- 46:55Speaker 4: guess I'd be scared to play inside because I'd have
- 46:57Speaker 4: to hear myself.
- 46:58Speaker 5: I think that's what makes me nervous. What am I
- 47:01Speaker 5: sounding like? Don't tell me.
- 47:02Speaker 3: You sound good to us. Thank you.
- 47:05Speaker 11: I want you.
- 47:05Speaker 4: It feels good. It feels good.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I'm going to play a little bit, and I just
- 47:08Speaker 1: want you to make a mess on your melodica.
- 47:10Speaker 6: I just want you to play.
- 47:11Speaker 12: Okay.
- 47:12Speaker 6: I want you to play the sounds of your heart.
- 47:14Speaker 5: Okay, I'm going to kind of let loose a little bit.
- 47:16Speaker 4: I'm going to be a little more buttoned down than
- 47:18Speaker 4: I've been playing so far.
- 47:19Speaker 5: Buttoned down, brother.
- 47:19Speaker 2: You're going to be a little more buttoned down.
- 47:21Speaker 4: I'm going to be a little more informal. That was
- 47:22Speaker 4: my formal plan.
- 47:23Speaker 2: And you know what? If this is good enough, maybe
- 47:25Speaker 2: we'll take this inside.
- 47:26Speaker 4: Rosie, and I want to see what you got.
- 47:28Speaker 5: Jerry has to sing.
- 47:29Speaker 6: I think Lapis is going to sing a little.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Okay, if you guys insist.
- 47:32Speaker 8: Well.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 47:42Speaker 7: Ooh, doggie.
- 47:49Speaker 3: I guess I'm forced to sing inside.
- 47:58Speaker 4: I really hope it is all right.
- 48:06Speaker 7: When you sing inside, there is an echo.
- 48:14Speaker 12: So I guess I'll just have to let go.
- 48:39Speaker 8: Here we go.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Yeah. Cause it's music. The power of a note. It's music.
- 49:07Speaker 4: Like every good quote. It's music.
- 49:14Speaker 6: It's good to jam.
- 49:16Speaker 4: It's so good to jam.
- 49:17Speaker 2: God, it's so good to jam.
- 49:19Speaker 4: Oh, that feels good to jam.
- 49:20Speaker 2: God, I wish we could bottle up the feeling of
- 49:23Speaker 2: the jam and drink it all night long.
- 49:26Speaker 4: God, when you, I can't wait for.
- 49:27Speaker 6: You to look back at your face when you do it,
- 49:29Speaker 6: because I know we don't bust in front of cameras often,
- 49:32Speaker 6: but you are, you are always so.
- 49:36Speaker 6: You are blowing so hard, and it looks like you're
- 49:40Speaker 6: in pain.
- 49:40Speaker 5: I don't care how I look, man. I only care
- 49:43Speaker 5: how it sounds.
- 49:43Speaker 4: And it sounds damn good. It sounds damn good.
- 49:46Speaker 5: You may look weird.
- 49:48Speaker 4: But you look good. It sounds damn good. It sounds
- 49:51Speaker 4: damn good.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Hey, can I gas you all a favor at home?
- 49:54Speaker 4: Go ahead, gas them.
- 49:57Speaker 6: Gas them.
- 49:58Speaker 4: Gas them, Rosie. Rosie, gas them. Rosie, gas them.
- 50:05Speaker 2: If you like what you saw tonight, why don't you
- 50:07Speaker 2: leave a dollar on the tip jar? And a dollar
- 50:10Speaker 2: on YouTube is a like for us. Why don't you
- 50:13Speaker 2: leave us a little like.
- 50:15Speaker 5: Or a dollar in the comments? Yeah, just comment the
- 50:17Speaker 5: phrase one dollar.
- 50:18Speaker 4: And remember, man, next time you're out there seeing someone
- 50:21Speaker 4: and you choose to walk on by, maybe stop, double back.
- 50:25Speaker 5: And listen to that guy's story. Because we all got stories.
- 50:28Speaker 2: We all got stories.
- 50:30Speaker 3: And this is the last story we'll leave you with.
- 50:32Speaker 4: It's a story of.
- 50:37Speaker 3: When you're buskin', buskin' feels good.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:43Speaker 7: When you're buskin', buskin' feels good. When you're buskin', buskin'
- 50:53Speaker 7: feels good. When you're buskin', buskin' feels good.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Come on.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Now busk a move.
- 51:06Speaker 4: Now busk a move. Now busk a move.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Now busk a move.

- 51:26Speaker 4: And there ain't no way to busk correct. There ain't
- 51:30Speaker 4: no way to busk proper. Proper.
- 51:33Speaker 5: Proper.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Because a buskin comes from the soul The place where
- 51:42Speaker 3: music comes to Buskin.
