- 0:00Coming up today on Mini Scroll, Baby Alessi versus Alex Cooper
- 0:05resurfaces SNL spoofs Alex V Alex Tana Mojo is to launch her
- 0:10own podcast while Emma Chamberlain winds hers down and
- 0:15the Taylor Swift Toy Story promo that was teased on her website
- 0:20and nothing was announced. Hi everyone, welcome to mini
- 0:24scroll, the daily Internet culture podcast bringing you the
- 0:28biggest stories from social media, the creator economy and
- 0:31the digital space every Monday through Thursday and sometimes
- 0:34Fridays. I'm your host Lauren Meisner,
- 0:36the founder of the Australian youth digital media brand
- 0:40Centennial world. Welcome back to mini scroll
- 0:43everyone. OK, you know what time it is,
- 0:45Stop the bop, please Spotify star rate US so I can stop
- 0:49asking you guys. And if you, I have no idea what
- 0:51I mean by stop the bop, go listen to Friday's episode
- 0:53because I explained I'm not going to stop asking until you
- 0:57get us to 1000 Spotify star ratings.
- 0:59We are at 925. OK, thousands of you guys listen
- 1:03to these episodes every single day.
- 1:05Please, please star rate US. Please.
- 1:08I know a lot of you guys probably don't have Spotify, but
- 1:10please, if you do, please tell your friends.
- 1:13All right, I have another big announcement, a very exciting 1
- 1:16you guys, our podcast advertising platform is
- 1:20officially live. I finished her yesterday and I
- 1:24was debugging all evening and all morning.
- 1:26I've had Sean look at it, I've had Annabelle look at it, I've
- 1:29had Crystal look at it like just tear it apart, like go through
- 1:32every single part of it. I'm so excited.
- 1:35I am getting legal counsel today to make sure that all of our IS
- 1:38are dotted and our T's are crossed and all of that good
- 1:40stuff. But it is live.
- 1:42So when you guys listen to this, it is live, it is ready.
- 1:45So I'll put a link down below, but it's called Spawn Studio,
- 1:48like sponsored Spawncon, get it Spawn Studio to help indie
- 1:51podcasters find sponsors for their shows.
- 1:55There are no download minimums to join.
- 1:57There are a few platforms like this that already exist, but you
- 2:00need to have at least like 10,000 downloads a month or per
- 2:02episode sometimes to join them. You don't need to have minimum
- 2:05download. Brands don't need minimum
- 2:07budgets. That's another thing that we
- 2:09hear from that side of the market is brands want to
- 2:11experiment with, you know, maybe like $5000 instead of committing
- 2:15to like a $30,000 buyout from a major network or whatever.
- 2:18So at the moment, it's a free marketplace on both sides.
- 2:22Podcasters will always be listed for free.
- 2:25I never want to charge for that. Brands, it is free as well right
- 2:29now. So sign up until we start
- 2:31charging. If we do start charging, I want
- 2:32to see how it goes first, obviously, but it was a labor of
- 2:36love and I had a lot of fun building it.
- 2:38It was tough thanking my lucky stars that my brother is a
- 2:41developer. I really hope it changes the way
- 2:43that we look at podcast advertising and the industry as
- 2:47a whole because another thing that makes our platform
- 2:49different is we do not report on downloads.
- 2:51It is all about total listens. One of the biggest drawbacks
- 2:55about podcasting in Australia specifically is all of the like
- 2:59measurement tools specifically go off of downloads.
- 3:02And what even is a download? I have so many episodes on Apple
- 3:05Podcasts that are downloaded to my phone that I will never
- 3:07listen to. Downloads often don't encompass
- 3:10YouTube views. They don't encompass Spotify
- 3:12video views. Now that like basically everyone
- 3:14can have video on Spotify. Like it doesn't take how quickly
- 3:18the industry is changing into account at all.
- 3:20So our platform reports on listens.
- 3:22So podcasters put in their monthly listen ranges and that
- 3:25can be live streams, that can be YouTube views, that can be
- 3:28downloads, that can be streams. Like that can be like Spotify
- 3:32video streams. It can be all of that.
- 3:34Hi guys, editing Lauren here. I know it's not that deep, but I
- 3:38feel like I totally forgot to let you guys know about one of
- 3:40my favorite parts of the platform, which is the
- 3:41resources. That is also something that
- 3:43makes us really different is I have built templates for media
- 3:48kits, post campaign reports, everything that an independent
- 3:51podcaster might need to properly sell ads based on their podcast
- 3:56and then report on those results through a full campaign on one
- 3:59side. And then on the brand side, I
- 4:01have also built templates for how to write a good brief to a
- 4:05podcaster that maybe has never had a sponsorship before, what a
- 4:08host read ad means and how you can actually measure it as a
- 4:11marketer. And we also have a media
- 4:13planning section. So if you've been cruising
- 4:16throughout directory and you find a bunch of different
- 4:19podcasts that you think could be a fit for your campaign, you can
- 4:22add it to your media plan and then you can request connections
- 4:26through that media plan instead of having to individually open
- 4:29new tabs. So yes, if you guys expressed
- 4:31interest early on, then you will have already received an e-mail
- 4:34from me if you didn't check your spam.
- 4:36I am not putting it out publicly into the market.
- 4:39And by that I mean like doing a LinkedIn post and doing press
- 4:42releases and like officially launching until we have more of
- 4:48a user base of podcasts that join and, you know, have some
- 4:51testing on the brand side as well.
- 4:53So you guys, as our listeners, our many school listeners, you
- 4:56guys get like first dibs. Like you guys get to join the
- 4:59platform 1st and play around with it.
- 5:01You guys can always let us know how you feel about it in the
- 5:03comments or DM me or whatever, but we're not going to
- 5:06officially put it out there quite yet.
- 5:08I want to do like a proper launch strategy, but I was so
- 5:10excited to tell you guys. And of course, as our loyal
- 5:12listeners, you guys get to know first.
- 5:14I get to play around with it first if you want.
- 5:16All right, the first story that I have for you guys today, this
- 5:19is a crazy one. But former Bachelor star Lauren
- 5:21Burnham is publicly criticizing Alex Cooper over comments that
- 5:25she made about her daughter on Call Her Daddy.
- 5:28So Lauren is a Bachelor star. She's married to Ari, who is the
- 5:30Bachelor. They met on season 22 when Ari
- 5:33initially chose Becca before famously breaking off his
- 5:37engagement with Becca to pursue Lauren following their dramatic
- 5:40TV reunion in March 2018. They married in 2019 and they
- 5:45actually have four children together.
- 5:46So Lauren has been chiming into the Alex the Alex drama, and
- 5:50she's been making it clear that she is team Alex Earl.
- 5:53And now over the weekend in a TikTok, she's explained why she
- 5:57said that years ago when Alex was still hosting the podcast
- 6:00with Sophia Franklin, they regularly featured a recurring
- 6:03segment on Call Her Daddy making fun of their daughter Alessi
- 6:07before and after she was born. So Lauren was like, the jokes
- 6:10that they made about myself and my husband were one thing, but
- 6:13the way that they talked about their baby went quote too far.
- 6:16She described tried the commentary as inappropriate,
- 6:18disgusting and claims that Alex and Sophia sexualized Alessi and
- 6:22that the segment continued for a long time.
- 6:24So long that they actually considered suing Barstool
- 6:27Sports. It's come to my attention that
- 6:29there are articles circulating now.
- 6:32I just kind of want to clear the air and give you the short and
- 6:37not so sweet information about that.
- 6:40A few years back Alex Cooper was on Call Her Daddy podcast and
- 6:45her and her Co host would They had this regular segment ongoing
- 6:50and they thought it would be funny to make fun of our unborn
- 6:55baby. Which is fine, whatever make fun
- 6:57of us don't care. But they took it too far.
- 7:00They made a regular segment before she was born and after
- 7:03she was born where they were sexualizing our child and
- 7:07talking very inappropriately and disgustingly about her.
- 7:13And I will not say any specific things right here.
- 7:16If you guys want to know, you can do your own research and
- 7:19find things. This was ongoing for a very long
- 7:22time, to the point where I wanted to hire a legal counsel
- 7:26to go after Barstool Sports for. This OK, so it seems the reason
- 7:30why Alex and Sophia were quote, UN quote making fun of baby
- 7:33Alessi was because Lauren and Ari had created an Instagram
- 7:36account for the baby before she was even born.
- 7:39And it started out as them making fun of Lauren and Ari for
- 7:41doing that. And then I think like trying to
- 7:44poke fun at how insane and also risky it can be to put your kids
- 7:48from the time that they're born, even before they're born on
- 7:51social media. I think that is like the origins
- 7:55of the baby Alessi stuff. And so you may think, OK, that's
- 7:59valid. Like you guys know how I feel
- 8:01about children on social media. I'm super against it, especially
- 8:04if you're a public figure. I think making an Instagram
- 8:06account for your child that is public, I think that's crazy,
- 8:10especially if you're famous. And that is the defense that
- 8:12their fans are using in her comments section.
- 8:15However, when you listen to some of the segments about Baby
- 8:19Alessi, you will feel different dude.
- 8:22She's going to have this arrested dude, baby Alessi
- 8:25Alesso Alesso. Oh like that one Alesso Ho dude.
- 8:31I well, we're saying that a stripper was jizzing on a baby's
- 8:33face like Oh no, and doing like Co baby Alessi back bitching.
- 8:39The office tells us that we can't get certain studio time
- 8:42because everyone else that does shows with guests is priority.
- 8:44So Sophia and I were like, we do have baby Alessie, who's a
- 8:47guest. Baby Alessie has been a little
- 8:51on the brink of prostitution lately.
- 8:53She's been doing casting couches, No?
- 8:55Matter the intent or what the original stance that they were
- 8:58trying to take here was and I was not an original call her
- 9:00daddy listener. I have gathered that like the
- 9:04fact that they were trying to take some type of stance and
- 9:06like poking fun at this Instagram account and stuff from
- 9:09comments on Reddit on on TikTok and like what other people are
- 9:11saying. So keep that in mind too.
- 9:12But regardless, whatever the stance they were trying to make
- 9:15or their original intent, it is very clear from even those few
- 9:20snippets how inappropriate and fucking weird Alex and Sophia
- 9:24were being about this child. And I know we always say
- 9:26Internet humor has changed so much and it has right?
- 9:29Like IA 100% agree with that. What was considered funny on the
- 9:32Internet like 1520 years ago is no longer funny and would never
- 9:35be considered funny anymore. But this was like 6 years ago.
- 9:39Making sex jokes about a baby was never considered funny, was
- 9:44never OK. And this podcast had millions of
- 9:47listens every single month. I don't know how they got away
- 9:51with this kind of shtick for so long.
- 9:54Like, how did it never come up? Like, maybe you know what, we
- 9:57should cool it on that. Maybe we shouldn't make sexual
- 10:00jokes about an infant. Like I don't know how that just
- 10:02never came up. How this they let this stick go
- 10:06on and on and on. All the people around them.
- 10:08I mean, I understand Barstool Sports was their producer, but
- 10:12regardless, they had millions of listeners, They had brand
- 10:14sponsors. Like, I don't understand how
- 10:16this just like flew under the radar.
- 10:18Now, this actually isn't the first time that Lauren has
- 10:20publicly spoken about this. She talked about the situation
- 10:23before on the Unplanned podcast. But.
- 10:25Essentially, from what I, from what I gathered, from what Ari
- 10:28told me, you guys were pregnant with Alessi and you guys, I
- 10:32think Ari had been like doing these like silly, cute videos
- 10:35where you're like talking as if you're Alessi and break it down.
- 10:38It was just. A caption.
- 10:39Oh, it was a caption like a. Bump photo.
- 10:41And then he would do like we would like alternate every other
- 10:44week where we'd write the caption from baby Leslie or baby
- 10:48Lion like at the time. So we would kind of be like, OK,
- 10:51today we're the size of a watermelon.
- 10:52Good. Because like I love watermelon.
- 10:54It was just. Like dumb rhymey kind of book.
- 10:56Yeah, exactly. That's where my book came.
- 10:57That's where the. Idea for the book came from
- 10:59Yeah, OK, so. We would do that every week and
- 11:02just like update people on the status of like what happened in
- 11:05our lives with the pregnancy every week.
- 11:07And they they kind of did it after she was born, though they
- 11:11didn't do it. Because we continued, we
- 11:12continued her page and like baby pictures of her, like we do it
- 11:16every week. Be like, hey, it's like first
- 11:18week on Earth. This.
- 11:20Week we talked for the first time and you know, like things
- 11:22like that and they decided that it would be really funny to make
- 11:25fun of baby lion dyke or baby lessee on the podcast.
- 11:29And they were talking. I don't remember what it was
- 11:31because so long ago, but I was really pissed because they would
- 11:34talk about her and then they would say stuff about like her
- 11:37being on a stripper pole or like what there would be like.
- 11:40The next sentence would be about like BJ's and just like really
- 11:44inappropriate things. I'm like the people, girl.
- 11:46Was so ratchet, you know so. Baby Classless.
- 11:49And I haven't checked this because I'm not in the business
- 11:51of looking up minors on Instagram, but I do wonder if
- 11:54Ari and Lauren, despite all of this, still have Instagram
- 11:57accounts for their kids. Speaking of Alex V Alex, this is
- 12:00a quick one. I'm sure you guys saw, but SNL
- 12:02spoofed the feud this weekend between Alex and Alex and it's
- 12:05going so viral mostly because people just can't believe that
- 12:08SNL spoofed it. And I saw Christy from Spill
- 12:12Sesh who we have had on the pod. Hey girl, say that you know a
- 12:15Gen. that employee pitched this and you know that they were
- 12:18fighting for their life trying to explain that.
- 12:21Like, we don't actually know what the drama is, but we know
- 12:24that there is drama and it's still worth spoofing because I
- 12:28promise it will go viral even though we have no idea what the
- 12:31drama is. And they did a good job.
- 12:33And also bringing Brianna chicken fry into it was crazy.
- 12:37OK, the next story that I have for you guys today is Tana Mojo
- 12:40has announced the launch of her new podcast while Emma
- 12:43Chamberlain is winding hers down.
- 12:45So months after teasing her own show, Tana Mojo has finally
- 12:49announced that she's launching a new podcast called Brand Safe on
- 12:52May 9th. So the name was actually created
- 12:55by her fandom, which I love. When Tana got sober and she
- 12:58started dating Makoa and her life started to really like a
- 13:01turn around. Her fans would say that she's in
- 13:03her brand safe era. And this really picked up when
- 13:06she did her tart collaboration. I think it was like lipsticks
- 13:09and people were like, Oh my God, you would have never had this
- 13:11opportunity when you were like, you know, Bleach and tone.
- 13:14Tana even canceled podcasts OG Tana.
- 13:18And it was just exciting for people to see this kind of
- 13:21evolution. And Tana has spoken very openly
- 13:23about how over the years, she's lost out on a lot of
- 13:25opportunities because she was not, quote, UN quote, brand safe
- 13:28on what the podcast will be. Tana claims it's the most
- 13:30personal content that she's ever put out to her fans since she
- 13:33started posting on the Internet. It is a solo podcast, by the
- 13:36way. Some episodes, she says, will be
- 13:38explorations into her mental health.
- 13:39Other, she will share more about her parents and her traumatic
- 13:42upbringing. And others she'll be sharing her
- 13:44opinions on, like, TikTok creator drama.
- 13:46So like, whatever she's into talking about that week.
- 13:48And she made a very heartfelt video talking about how long it
- 13:51took her to get to this peaceful place and this like successful
- 13:54place in life and how the podcast will reflect that.
- 13:57But I. Do really want to give a special
- 14:00thank you to the people. Who watch me?
- 14:03During bleach and Tone and dirty.
- 14:05Door and toothbrush era and like all of those things.
- 14:08And people have been rocking with me since then, and I know
- 14:10I'm just immediately crying, but like, hold on, stick with me
- 14:12here, obviously. I have gone on at length at how?
- 14:15Much you saved that girl's life that she would not be.
- 14:19Alive today here making this video.
- 14:22If it was not for you, it was the very first.
- 14:23Time I ever felt seen or heard by anyone.
- 14:27Was that time? Of my life.
- 14:29But obviously then. My career went on to do so many
- 14:32things that I lived 1000 lives and I lost her along the way a
- 14:36lot of the times, you know, and through making Brand Safe, I
- 14:41almost feel like I have found her again in a way that is
- 14:45crazy. I do this thing now where
- 14:47whenever I'm going to do something, I bring Tana who
- 14:52needed the bleach and tone. I I literally imagine her almost
- 14:55in that halter top in that outfit.
- 14:56I bring her in the car with me. I know that sounds so crazy, but
- 14:59I just I bring her along with me throughout my day and I think
- 15:03about the things that she would think about even like the Hannah
- 15:05Montana premiere, just about how she'd be like, no way.
- 15:08We get to like go to this and we get to walk on this red carpet
- 15:11and we get to meet all these girls outside who like.
- 15:13Have loved. Us for 10 years and like, Oh my
- 15:15God, I love your shoes. I think about all the little
- 15:17things. That like she would like, love
- 15:19and be so excited about even just like right now, like my
- 15:21house and my view by like she's sitting here on this couch with
- 15:24me like so, so, so like enamored by the life that we got to
- 15:28build. And this all started when I sat
- 15:30down to film the very first episode of the Brand Safe
- 15:32podcast. Because let me tell you
- 15:34something, OK? Tears aside, solo podcasting is
- 15:37a very. Different game, but.
- 15:39Just as Gen. Z girlies are getting a new
- 15:42stream of consciousness podcast from a fave, they're losing
- 15:45another because Emma Chamberlain announced last week that she is
- 15:48taking an indefinite hiatus from her podcast Anything Goes what
- 15:52she's been publishing since April 2019.
- 15:55She basically just said she wants to focus on other things.
- 15:57Fair enough. That's been a long time that
- 15:59she's been podcasting. And I know that it probably
- 16:03sounds like a lie, but I actually think Emma Chamberlain
- 16:06was one of the first like a list creators to start podcasting.
- 16:10Am I wrong in saying that? I remember when she launched her
- 16:12podcast and I remember people being like, this is so random.
- 16:15And look at her now. How many years ago was that?
- 16:17Like 7 years? That's a long time, All right.
- 16:20And the last story that I have for you guys today is Taylor
- 16:23Swift. Her website seemingly teased
- 16:28like a Toy Story related promo and then the announcement never
- 16:33came. So fans have been very confused
- 16:37after a cryptic countdown briefly appeared on Taylor
- 16:40Swift's official website last week, and many people assumed it
- 16:44was tied to Toy Story 5. SA mysterious timer showed up on
- 16:48taylorswift.com displaying a blue sky with white clouds and
- 16:53people said that instantly reminded them of Toy Story.
- 16:55The countdown was set to finish on May 2nd, 2:00 PM ET, but it
- 17:00only stayed live for about 10 minutes before disappearing.
- 17:02So people found it. They were freaking out about it,
- 17:04posting about it, and then it disappeared.
- 17:06And then the site reverted back to her usual like life of a
- 17:09showgirl theme. So no announcement came on May
- 17:112nd. No one has addressed what
- 17:13happened here, but of course, fans have been piercing clues
- 17:16together. So a lot of people think that
- 17:17she's doing some type of Toy Story collab because like I
- 17:20said, the clouds and then there was like yellow outlined font.
- 17:24Also Taylor Swift Toy Story TS, get it?
- 17:27Another theory centers on the date.
- 17:29So Toy Story 5 is apparently set to release June 19th.
- 17:33Toy Story 5? That is crazy.
- 17:34I think I remember seeing Toy Story.
- 17:37I think I remember seeing Toy Story one in theaters.
- 17:39I don't know. So yes, it's gonna release on
- 17:41June 19th, which also happens to be the 20th anniversary of
- 17:46Taylor's debut single, Tim McGraw.
- 17:48And then people are tying in her recent fashion choices.
- 17:50Like, you know, we love an Easter egg in the Swifty fandom.
- 17:53People are like, Oh my God. The blue and white striped dress
- 17:55paired with a yellow bag and red heels like that gives Toy Story
- 17:59logo. What do you guys think is
- 18:01happening here? I think it's possible she is
- 18:04doing something for the Toy Story, like soundtrack or album
- 18:08or whatever. I think the counter was probably
- 18:10not supposed to release or they were doing a test and so they
- 18:13had like test date and time in there and they didn't realize
- 18:17that they had set live, which is why everybody was counting down
- 18:20till May 2nd. But May 2nd wasn't like actually
- 18:23the date that we were going to get this on.
- 18:24And then of course they had to like immediately take it down
- 18:26when fans noticed it. And they're not going to let us
- 18:28know until they decide how to like announce this in a
- 18:31different way. I think that this was probably
- 18:33something they were testing that was not supposed to go live.
- 18:36I don't know. What do you guys think?
- 18:37What are your theories? I like the 20th anniversary of
- 18:40Tim McGraw. Surely she's going to do
- 18:42something for that. I don't know if it's going to be
- 18:43related to Toy Story, but doing something for her 20th
- 18:46anniversary of her debut single, Tim McGraw.
- 18:49I mean, she has to do like a secret pop up performance with
- 18:52Tim McGraw. Come on.
- 18:54Anyways, guys, that's it for a Monday mini scroll.
- 18:57Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 18:59Please remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 19:01Please Spotify star rate US. Stop the bop.
- 19:04OK, we're almost there. I love you guys and I will talk
- 19:07to you guys tomorrow. Bye.
- 19:08Centennial World Podcast Network operates on Gadigal land.
