- 0:13Hello, friends. It is shown here is the Thursday
- 0:17and this is the day I promised you at the beginning of the
- 0:20week, where God Reveals His formula for a successful life.
- 0:26Here's Ten Commandments to the people of Israel.
- 0:30This is a wonderful time when God reveals with such Simplicity
- 0:34and such Clarity what he needs. This community to know about the
- 0:39standards he has for them as they will be doing life together
- 0:43as his people. so come with me back to that mountain with that
- 0:50giant Cloud, that incredibly large God and that very nervous,
- 0:56Nation standing at the foot of that mountain, as we read
- 1:00together, Exodus chapter 20, Then God, gave the people all
- 1:16these instructions, I am, the Lord, your God, who rescued you
- 1:21from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.
- 1:26You must not have any other God, but me.
- 1:31You must not make for yourself, an idol of any kind or an image
- 1:35of anything in the heavens, or on the earth, or in the sea.
- 1:39You must not bow down to them or worship them for I, the Lord
- 1:43your God, am a jealous God, who will not tolerate your
- 1:47affections for any other gods? I lay the sins of the parents
- 1:53upon their children. The entire family is affected,
- 1:56even children in the third and fourth generations of those who
- 2:00reject me but I lavish unfailing love for a thousand Generations
- 2:06on those who love me and obey my commands.
- 2:11You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God, the Lord will
- 2:16not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- 2:21Remember to observe the sabbath day by keeping it.
- 2:24Holy, you have six days each week for your ordinary work but
- 2:29the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest.
- 2:32Dedicated to the Lord, your God on that day.
- 2:36No one in your household, may do any work, this includes you,
- 2:41your sons and daughters your male and female servants.
- 2:45Your livestock and any foreigners living among you?
- 2:49For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the Earth, the sea,
- 2:54and everything in them. But on the seventh day he rested
- 2:58that is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as
- 3:03holy. Honor your father and mother,
- 3:07then you will live a long full life in the land.
- 3:11The Lord your God is giving you. You must not murder.
- 3:17You must not commit adultery. You must not steal.
- 3:22You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.
- 3:26You must not covet your neighbor's house.
- 3:30You must not covet your neighbor's wife, male or female
- 3:33servant ox, or donkey or anything else that belongs to
- 3:38your neighbor. When the people heard the
- 3:41Thunder and the loud blast of the Ram's Horn, and when they
- 3:45saw the flashes of lightning and the smoke billowing from the
- 3:48mountain, they stood at a distance, trembling with fear
- 3:53and they said to Moses you speak to us and we will listen.
- 3:58But don't let God speak directly to us or we will die.
- 4:02Don't be afraid. Moses answered them for God has
- 4:06come in this way to test you. And so that your Year of him
- 4:10will keep you from sinning as the people stood in the
- 4:14distance, Moses approached. The Dark Cloud where God was And
- 4:20the Lord said to Moses say this to the people of Israel, you saw
- 4:26for yourselves that I spoke to you from Heaven.
- 4:30Remember you must not make any Idols of silver or gold to rival
- 4:35me. Build for me an ultimatum of
- 4:38Earth and offer your sacrifices to me your burnt offerings and
- 4:43peace. Offerings your sheep and goats
- 4:45and your cattle, build, my altar.
- 4:48Wherever I caused my name, I'm to be remembered and I will come
- 4:52to you and bless you. If you use stones to build my
- 4:56altar, use only natural uncut Stones do not shape the stones
- 5:02with the tool for that would make the altar unfit for Holy
- 5:06use do not approach my altar by going up steps.
- 5:10If you do someone might look up under your clothing and see your
- 5:15nakedness. Jesus, you have a way that you
- 5:30want us to live. Here we see that you communicate
- 5:35this in this or inspiring and terrifying way to your people.
- 5:42But then you came, you became incarnate.
- 5:46And you lived Among Us and you said that we ought to love God
- 5:49and love each other. These are all about the posture
- 5:55of our heart that we would come before you with great love and
- 6:00reverence for you and that we would have love in our hearts
- 6:05for each other. Thank you that this is your way,
- 6:10not a way of competition and one-upmanship, but a way of love
- 6:15and community, help us to model you and your love.
- 6:21As we interact with those in our lives.
- 6:26Thank you that we didn't have to go journeying into the heavens
- 6:29to find this out, but that you literally came down to us and
- 6:34you told us exactly how it is. And what your kingdom looks
- 6:37like, you are a loving God, and we just love that about you.
- 6:45And it's in that love that you first gave us that we love you
- 6:49back. That's in your name that we pray
- 6:52Jesus. Amen.
