Transcript
- 0:00Hello and welcome back to another episode of the retail
- 0:03podcast. Today, we're looking at
- 0:04robotics, I'm here with Tompkins Robotics and I'm with Thompson,
- 0:09who is VP of operations. He's going to talk us through
- 0:12the setup that they've got here and then I'm going to ask him
- 0:15some tough questions on the future of Robotics.
- 0:19What we have here is a robotic sortation Solution.
- 0:22That's used throughout the supply chain.
- 0:25What we're doing training at this show is an order,
- 0:26fulfillment solution that can handle both e-commerce.
- 0:30He is Essaouira Qantas read. But you can really use this
- 0:32technology as I said anywhere throughout the supply chain that
- 0:36can started the inbounds rotation is in a warehouse, go
- 0:39through all the outbound for order, fulfillment?
- 0:42And even the shipping sortation. So, getting the right Parcels of
- 0:45the right cartons, to the right shipping destination, we could
- 0:48also leverage this technology in the back room of the store.
- 0:51Possesses a very scalable solution.
- 0:53It can be sized appropriately, to whatever the volume and
- 0:56destination. Requirements are so in this and
- 0:59the back room of a store, we Users were BioLite pick up in
- 1:01the store where you would have your Associates, picking a batch
- 1:05of Wars, to take it to the back room and sorting that out into
- 1:09individual customer orders or even for the inbound.
- 1:12Sortation, for a cases of mixed product, we can prepare that
- 1:16for. I already put away.
- 1:18We see this as a very flexible scalable solution, we can add
- 1:22robots, we can add destinations, we can add induction stations
- 1:25throughout the system and grow to your needs and growing year
- 1:28by year. I'm curious.
- 1:30A lot of retailers will be used to having Robotics and the
- 1:34distribution and Warehouse Systems.
- 1:36Where do you see the future of the technology?
- 1:38And how do you see what solve problems are retailers?
- 1:41Coming to you to solve? Is it still in the back of the
- 1:45house? If you like in the supply chain
- 1:47or are they re thinking what the actual business model looks
- 1:50like, what? As I said earlier, the business
- 1:52model for a robotics rotation can be anywhere in their supply
- 1:55chain and the biggest problem of the biggest issue, lot of the
- 1:58retailers and Warehouse operations, having very finding
- 2:02labor and keeping labor, secure it in their facility, and
- 2:05continue to work. So by taking out a lot of the
- 2:08manual processes, a lot of repeatable process, so you can
- 2:10easily do what the robot you listen, that need to go out
- 2:14there and hire people bring them on board, even for these short
- 2:17periods of time where, you know, you just need to flex up and use
- 2:21operators and little bored. Quite a lot of sick people and
- 2:24go through the training process. Don't have the training, the
- 2:27robots, they're going to be reliable, they can work.
- 2:30Seven. They don't even take breaks.
- 2:32I'm not. How is this?
- 2:34How is predictive maintenance on these?
- 2:37How are you? I'm curious about predictive
- 2:39maintenance. So we offer a life cycle service
- 2:42program with all of our installations.
- 2:44So we could actually come out for De Lis, do any maintenance,
- 2:48do any, repairs are needed, but this is a very durable solution
- 2:53is without in the market, has been on size for many, many
- 2:55years, five, plus years with very little issues, there's no
- 2:59single point. Failure in this type of
- 3:01technology that you may have with some of the more
- 3:03traditional automated Solutions. So if there is an issue with the
- 3:07robot somebody damages or something, you simply remove
- 3:09that robot, put a request from background there if you back up
- 3:13and running in a matter of seconds if not just a couple
- 3:15minutes. So the maintenance aspect is
- 3:17very handy is a matter of fact it's so easy.
- 3:20We have customers out there that don't have a maintenance staff
- 3:22at all. They just rely on our lifecycle
- 3:24services that come in there on the quarterly basis.
- 3:27Do the repairs, do the claim of the system?
- 3:30In that keeps the system running off away.
- 3:32So they rarely have to follow us F and from your experience
- 3:36setting up my new robotic system.
- 3:40Well what's the Project Life Cycle on a project like this?
- 3:42Is this year's one stay weeks. I agree really appreciate that
- 3:47question because our system is designed to be completely
- 3:50modular and mobiles everything. You see out here in the system
- 3:54is on casters, we can manufacture the major components
- 3:57all site, very little disruption.
- 4:00When we come on site because we could roll those off the
- 4:02trailers, snap this together, like Legos it have a system
- 4:05actually up and running it just a month or two here that
- 4:09includes, not just insulation, but also all the configuration
- 4:13and all the Indian testing and final question because I could
- 4:18carry on Old a data. So how much of the data on the
- 4:23stock? Do you actually does your
- 4:26platform? Look at all rights?
- 4:27The no, you don't. Look at that.
- 4:29You're just purely. Robotics.
- 4:32We are purely a sortation solution so we are not actually
- 4:35we don't need that all the image are we don't get to school at
- 4:38William Joy. But we do get to individual line
- 4:41level ordered a do so that gets downloaded we see the immediate
- 4:44demand and we're agnostic to the picking solution so that could
- 4:49be a good sir person technology that brings the product directly
- 4:52to deduction operator and then we just take a look at what is
- 4:55being inducted and we will scan out across that demand of data.
- 4:59That's out there. And fulfill the customers based
- 5:01on quality, whatever sort of analytics, we need to optimize
- 5:05the use of the system. Okay.
- 5:07Stock, accuracy would absolutely say hydrogen accuracy we track
- 5:13every item as it's being ducted. If you watch Ross here in dark
- 5:17dining rooms so we know exactly what's being inducted on the
- 5:19item. We calculate where needs to go,
- 5:22we track that robot throughout the whole process and we know
- 5:25is, when it's been diverted into the destination, all of the
- 5:28outbound orders are scanning In and track says, those are being
- 5:32exchanged in, or core back to the host.
- 5:34Exactly what's in there when you got dropped in there.
- 5:37And when to order yet closed and is available to the next door to
- 5:40be processed and slow. I didn't ask where he base
- 5:43doesn't know. We're base out of Orlando,
- 5:45Florida, we have an entire demonstration, lab and a test
- 5:48live down there, so we're always evaluating and they bring it on,
- 5:52dude, clue technology, expand our product line, it
- 5:55demonstrating to our clients, what our capabilities of the
- 5:58Ring orders down in my actual product down. tested running
- 6:00through our tests or system, it is
