- 0:39SPEAKER_01: As always, this episode is brought to you by Gomez Drolitarius, a Binacional, Bicultural, and Besting Class Law firm based in San Diego, and now with offices in Tijuana.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Gomez Drawitarius provides the highest level of legal representation in both the English and Spanish languages to victims of personal injury, employment violations, and civil rights abuses.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: It is also the largest Latino-owned law firm in California.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Today I'm happy to be joined by my co-host, Naya Flores, who uh graciously agreed to participate and host this uh episode today.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Uh and I'm also excited to have Valeria Rimera here, and I'll let her introduce herself.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: But she is one of the voices right now uh leading the binational corridor with this incredible race that she's gonna you know explain to us about.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Uh Valeria, welcome.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: We're really excited to have you here.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, why don't we start with, you know, tell us where you are, where you're from, and your connection to this community.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: First of all, thank you so much for the invite.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: I'm really honored to be here in this really cool podcast that connects the binational community.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm Maria Rivera Corona and I was born in San Diego, but raised in Ticuana.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: I'm the border bowl, right?
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: That goes to Po and Tijuana.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: My current work in San Diego, across the border every day.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: That's all hard for us, right?
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: So um, I've been um with the Bernational Race for three years.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Um, we're really excited for this edition.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Everything started as a dream, we could say, or just uh something that we didn't even know if this could be possible.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm the co-founder of the Binational Race.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Uh we're a team of three.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Um team of three to that large-scale race?
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, team of three, yes.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: And um Beck Amin, who's uh one of uh the co-founders, he brought this idea um like five or six years ago, um, to a running team that we had.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: So we were like, okay, that sounds cool, but I don't think this could be possible, right?
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: So um once we spoke with someone really important from um government that it's involved in the national, when we pitched the idea, he was like, if you want to do it, I'll help you guys.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: But we're not joking.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: And we're like, okay, then let's try it, right?
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: And then um at the end, when we figure out that this was gonna be real, no one raised their hand, right?
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Because it's another job, everyone has like other stuff to do.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: So just Paulina de Legos and I raised our hands, and we're a small team.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: So Bekamine is the one that um manages everything on the Mexican side most of the time.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Paulina, she's the one the community manager, and I'm more involved in the US side.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: But at the end, everyone does a little bit of everything, right?
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: It seems like you're a fantastic team, especially for like achieving this.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Is it the third year that this is gonna go on?
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Third year, but like all the funding and everything happened like four years and half now.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: So since we were like they told us yes, you can do it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: It took us like a a year and a half to get all the permits, yeah, all the logistically internally.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: And also, yes, it's a team of free, but we um have other teams um that handle the operations and logistics.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: We hired a really good team that has been in business for more than 35 years.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: The name is Timing HQ, but they handles all the logistics and permits and everything on the US side.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: And in Mexico, we also hired someone that has done races for years.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: The name is Los Angeles team, and they're um have done a lot of races for more than 20 years as well.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: So we have the best of both worlds.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Well, you got surrounded yourself by a good team, right?
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I feel like a year and a half is actually pretty quick.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: I feel like for something that big of that capacity, a year and a half is pretty fast.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: So you guys did great.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's huge.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: You guys yeah, you're everywhere, I feel like.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Thank you, thank you.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: We're we're trying our best.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: And um, I I can say that at the beginning, it wasn't easy because it was hard for the wonders to trust someone that it's a normal runner that has never done this before.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Um, but we're really like grateful for everyone that signed up for the first year because there was no picture, nothing settled that we could say this will happen, right?
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: So it was just our imagination and trusting on what we were saying.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: And it went really well for being our first edition.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: We had 1200 runners registered.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Wow, that is a lot.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so um really excited.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: No, it's just uh it's a new product, but you know, let me let me backtrack a little bit.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, because like this idea of creating a binational race does not come from someone who does not have a connection to this community that understands why it's important.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: So, and I'll hit myself if I don't mention this.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: You know, Lanetta and I, we have a school income in Tijuana, which I call the best private school in uh Baja.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: It's called Instituto México.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, uh so shout out to Instituto Mexico, like always.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: I think you're the third or four guests that we have in this podcast that has a background.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Uh so going back, like where did the idea come uh come up?
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Like I know you said you had a team of runners, but why a binational award?
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Why not a race in Tijuana?
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Why not a race in San Diego?
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Like what happened like in your minds to create a thing where you actually crossed the border in a race?
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: Yes, of course.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: Well, I've been running for 14 years now.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: So when I spread it, um, I was 18.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: No one from my group, friends, grew on at that time.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: So um actually I I studied industrial engineering.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: So when I graduated, I was in my peak of not in my best shape, we could say, right?
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: So I Googled, like, what's the right best way to lose weight?
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Niggas running.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: So I started running.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Um and in the treadmill, I met Ben Camin.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Um, now the co-founder.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: The co-founder, right?
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: So he was like, hey, you run really well, and I'm like, okay, thank you, whatever.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Um, I never thought that I was gonna do like a half marathon or anything from that end, right?
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: So his visa got expired and he couldn't do a half marathon.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Um and he told me, like, do you want my ticket?
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: I can get it to you.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I don't know how to run, like only runs like eight kilometers at mass.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: And he was like, You can do it.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: Let's let's try it.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: And I was like, no, try to sell it if you and if you can't, I'll join.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: And you know what?
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: Someone that like this happens always.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Like someone puts like the thing in your mind, and by end of the day, I was like, What's the worst thing can happen?
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Like my parents go and pick me up.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, just go for it.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: Go for it.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can also walk.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: I know that's definitely a walker.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: So in the morning, he uh well in the morning.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: I call him, like, please don't sell like that walk.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: Okay, let's try.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: So um, that was my first half marathon when I was 18.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: And it was a really good experience.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: So from there, I never stopped running.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: Good.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: And um, we started going to run COVID was a key part for this binational IP.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: The horse.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Because we went around in San Diego and went to run in Tijuana.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Like outdoors and outdoors, you're putting up and to do.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Um, at that time I did work here in downtown at B Street Management.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: So homeless and I were the ones that came to break all the time because it was a finance thing and it wasn't like a remote job.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: So I had to be either right up.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Yes, but either way, we enjoyed a lot running and sending with Tijuana.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: So uh for for a while we started in Tijuana and then crossed the border running, went to Coronado and all that stuff.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: So that's a typical.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: So for people that don't know, that's like the typical route for Tijuana people, either running or seeing or cycling.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Like people actually cross the border, they park at Imperial Beach, and then they go to Coronado to come back.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: That's what, like 11 miles?
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: Yes, around.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Yes, so that was what we were doing.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: And we were like, obviously, if we go from Exit to the United States, this couldn't be possible, or I'll be a millionaire.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: But how about the other way around?
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: So that that's why we started digging into like, okay, is this something that we could do?
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Um, speaking, like, let's see at the first, uh, I'm gonna share this because it was a really um impactful thing for us.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: So um the the person that helped us connect with both um countries, right?
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Sadio, Tijuana, government agencies and everything, set up a meeting here at the with them, like the mayor office.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: And we were like with our presentation, but like really like we did it one day before.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: We didn't know like with whom we were gonna speak with.
- 9:42SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: So it was like uh the first meeting to see what's gonna happen, right?
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: So uh actually one day before she was, we should take something.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: And I was like, let's let's go and see what's happening.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Uh I thought it's gonna be like an office this this big, just to speak about like the idea, right?
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we got there, we were at the majors like conference room, we had everyone there, uh uh San Diego Chamber of Commerce, um, CDP, Tijuana people, like important people, were like 20 people there.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: And we were like with our presentation, no PowerPoint or anything, or we're like, okay, we have this idea.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: We pitched everything, and the key thing was when um CDP said yes, this could be possible.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: We were like, Okay, this is a lead now.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and at the first, we wanna we went for that meeting, I think, in April, no, I don't remember that times, but it was like six months before uh racing.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: And we're like, yes, in six months we're gonna make this race, blah blah blah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And on the end we noticed that that couldn't be possible.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: It takes more time than that.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Well, especially like all the people that were there just to meet with you.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: One of my questions was gonna be like in advance of this podcast, it's one where the hurdles, right?
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: And I imagine they would be like C VP and constants in Mexico, but it's a good thing that they immediately said, Yeah, this is possible.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: But since that date, I never put all of those persons together again.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Okay, you know, like it's it's really funny because we didn't have like a with a good plan.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: Like they had the idea of the plan, right?
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a good idea.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel like the brand comes along once you start like doing the work, right?
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Because this was an idea that you you all had in your mind, but just the fact that all these people got together that that meant that they were believing the project, right?
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: And you believe for the project, right?
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: Yes, and uh like I think timing is the best part of it because I I started my entrepreneurship career like seven years ago.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: So I had um another company, the name was Crumb Cheese, and it was um we brought out the wafer cookies from La Jara and sold them in different coffee shops.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: So at the end it was a really hard business.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Um, a lot of like I had to move like all the manufacturing everything here.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: So I did my numbers, projections, and I think that was the end of it.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: So as soon as I closed that business and I exited, I had I like on the next day, Binachal came up, and I was like, I mean, it's Mexican and I'm American.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: So I was like, okay, I'll handle everything on the U side and you do all the Mexican side.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: So from one day to another, I opened my company.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: Like, I I wasn't scared.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Because every day you're not doing it.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Exactly, because if it wasn't that way, I will never do this, like by myself, how, everything.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: So that helped me a lot to encourage myself to open another thing, and at the end, what's gonna happen?
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: If it doesn't work, we just close it, right?
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: So, but yes, so it's been a long journey.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: So, what drove that uh entrepreneurship?
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Because you know, a lot of people that you know that I know from people and I they come here and they they work on a like a someplace, right?
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Like what drove that entrepreneurship, like your parents, uh friends, uh like what motivated you to start saying if you'll let MLP in my old business.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Yes, it was funny because um I like when we started, it was with one of my best friends, so the first company, right?
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: So I I always carried healthy snacks with me because I have was like in this like a lot of pain in my stomach and stuff.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: So I wasn't able to eat everything.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: And we bought a lot of wafer cookies from another company in Mexico.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: And we were one day at um like an after party with like 2 a.m.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: or something.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: And my friend was like, Do you have any of your wafer cookies?
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, Yes.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: And she was like, Why don't we do this in the US?
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: It and it's never, it's never open or anything, or it's that we haven't seen them at any gassing stations or anything.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: And we were like, Okay, and at that that moment, like on the next day, um, we started searching for everything, and we met one, it was like really weird, you know, like how things happened.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: Uh Paulina, um, the at that moment, the co-founder of Crum Tees, um, she was on the beach with one like entrepreneurship book, and and the dog came in.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: It was one of um, and she was oh, like the dog came by her, and then the owner of the dog was like, Oh, you you want to entrepreneur or something?
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: She was like, Yes.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: And sh Billy at that time, um, the owner of the dog introduced us to um star at Bitcoin.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: So that's how we started.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: Because at the end, you know, it's a tip you have the idea, but if you don't continue and you push yourself, it's like, okay, let's do it yeah, another day or whatever.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: But yes, so exactly.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: And that end the startup was starting in um San Diego Miracle College, and then English is Rec Innovation Lab Lead by Tiny Hertz.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I heard about that.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's I was the second culprit.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Oh wow, and at the end, when you are in this entrepreneurship world, you notice that it's a really small niche.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: So then I was like in other um incubators uh with USD, with um Village Up, with Founder FIBO, with so And they help you with like market study research and all this?
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: Exactly, yes, with my first company.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: And then when I started Binational, I obviously reached back to everyone.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Hey, I have this project, and everyone was willing to help me.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: So well, you had all the right contents, right?
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: And we continue building everything, right?
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: And good.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: So how do you uh like when you went back to them, how do you know that this idea would work on attracting people to the other?
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Because I guess that's you know, you can have the idea, you can have the business, but how do you know people are gonna show up?
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: You have to put it in a different way, right?
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Some I was impressed that a lot of people um was their first time going to Mexico or even um thinking about causing the border.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: So making it this like the best of both worlds, you start in the US and in Mexico, you can have a huge festival at the end with tacos, beer, mariachi.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: So that was her thing, saying into different running clubs that we were also going to the most popular in San Diego Adiwana, right?
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: So like ourselves going and explaining what do we envision for this race helped us.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: And also, um, obviously we had like friends that also went with us and tried to motivate because you know, if probably you've signed up for the race, you can motivate your friends and yes, let's go.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: And she will if she actually break this cross about this.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I won't.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: I don't think I can do the half marathon, but a 10K.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: Okay, maybe the 12.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: I've done a 5k and yeah, it was it was easy.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: Um, but I did not prepare for that.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: But I think for a 12k, I do have some time because it's 10 hours.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I have some time to train.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: Um, I do, you know, study and work and do a lot, but I think that I I love the mission, like the vision of the whole race in itself, like bringing both cities kind of together.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: And you do mention something I I was stalking a little bit on the but you mentioned like to not focus on what separates us, rather what unites us.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: And I feel like, like you said, being a border grow on me, me too.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: I, you know, born and raised in San Diego, but also raised in Tijuana, and I still have my family there as well.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: And so going back and forth, and it's they're both both cities are home.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: So I think that just bringing both together, connecting them is really special.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: So that's why I'm like, you know what?
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: Even though not a rhetoric, and I don't already, yes.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you're right.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: You know, we all start somewhere.
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm more of a Pilates person, but but I think it'll be a great, great experience.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: I already told one of my friends yesterday I was like, we're gonna do this because she's also from the cornet and Zen Nato.
- 17:39SPEAKER_03: So I think I will definitely be signing up.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I encourage everyone to get it.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: It's a really different experience.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: So these we started, yes, right, with this mission of connecting both cities.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: Like we go shopping in the US and then we go to a lot of things, like going back and forth.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: Why not running, right?
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Since there's the boom right now of running on both sides, and sometimes we have like running subs in Tijuana.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: Why don't we go into Sandigo or vice versa?
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: From Sandiego to Tijuana, right?
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: But at the end, uh the first year that we um did the race, it was impressive, like the story that everyone else has behind it.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: So there was a lot of testimonials, like, hey, I won this for my grandpa because because of him, I'm able to go back and forth.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Like a lot of stories that we were crying, and I'd say, you know, like, okay, yes, I started with this idea of connecting the border, but I didn't know what deeply stories were gonna help in with a lot of runners, yeah, and all the the culture uh outside of it, and a lot of people that was that they probably have their passport and everything, but they don't come to Tijuana often, and making it secure, we have shows that bring them back from the finish line to back to San Isidro, so making the experience as easy as possible, and that they can take a little bit of Mexico like them, right?
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: So let that go so for sure.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel if we facilitate that, like being you know, a border people, like we always want to bring people to Tijuana, we always want to bring people to buy it because we want them to see like what we've experienced and how great it is.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: But you know, for for the race, you know, and even so many race in San Diego and Tijuana, I think it was a great idea.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: The fact that you did like a binational thing because it actually attracts a lot of people.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: And then I even heard about it first here.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what is this race about?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: How are we paying out to it?
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: I don't how they gotta go over the hurdles.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: But you know, for our listeners, why don't you explain what like what the binational race is?
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Where it starts, where it ends, uh, how many options they have to raise it.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Like you said, you know, you have a that marathon, 10, 12 for something.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: So if you can go over that, that would be awesome.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: Well, the binational race, uh, icuana is that half marathon, 12k and 10k.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: So two distances, the half marathon and the 12k start in Las Americas Cremen Alletes, the outlet center that everyone posts in San Isidro.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: We start there.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: Um, for the half marathon, we run like almost uh 10 kilometers on the US side.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: And for the 12k, it'll be just one kilometer.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: After that, we cross a border.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: There's an Ariati band that receives us, so that's the most emblematic moment of the race.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: A lot of people even stop a little bit and dance and then continue their journey.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: And where do you cross?
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Is it through the pedestrian uh bridge or is it through like the car entrance?
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: It's through the car entrance.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: So CDP opens a special gate that is like uh Ped West, a sign of it, but it's never open.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: So they just open for a certain time for the race itself.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: And it's really fun because a lot of CDPs are there like cheering up.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, we're not just so you cross there and then you go to Mexico.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Also, the Mexican uh militaries are cheering up, and then we continue uh on the Avenida Internacional, and the finish line is in Playas Adiquana, where the um lighthouses, so in front of the beach.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: So, how is that uh, you know, like for our listeners, like this is the only experience that we have to actually cross the border where the cars go, right?
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Running.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: And then uh how is that hill going up to playas?
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Because I've heard you know, I was with a friend of mine who's definitely a runner, excessive runner.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think he read like 17 uh half marathons last last year.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Uh so he's siding up for it.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Of course, it should be.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: And we're talking about the hill, right?
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: How is that hill?
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: Is that where people like start like walking a little bit?
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: But how is that?
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: Yes, so that hill, we do a special challenge.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Um, that is like the kin or queen of a hill.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: So we put a timer before the heel starts and at the finish line.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: And we do like a race within the race that we um award the fastest female and male, a five top.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: So it's Really fun because a lot of people like they want to go for that specific exam.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: So they could w walk the the first half, then stop, push their limits in the enchilada heel would say because that part is one of the let's raise it.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh, yes.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: And the races, uh, most emblematic races in Tijuana is the enchilada heel that has the same hill.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: So we honored that part as well.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: So uh we awarded those, and it's been really fun to have that like race inside the race.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And I also for my forgotten mention that we have a third um race, the the 10K.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: That one starts in Tijuana.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: So it's more for people that don't have visa.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: That I also we also figured out that a lot of people don't have visa.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Sometimes we make it for granted, right?
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: So a lot of people wanted to have the experience but couldn't be um crossing the border.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: So we did the 10K that starts uh besides Cosco El Rio and unites the other raid that's coming from San Diego, and we all end in like Oh, very hard.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: So I was saying people from San Diego aren't coming in, they start the race as well.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so it's pretty fun because you're seeing the other ones that come from Tijuana.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but see, like only people from like Tijuana and San Diego will go realize that there's a ninja for that, right?
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: So that's that's great that you have a team that's cons consists of that.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're considered the fact that yeah, some people don't have a visa, but they love the mission and you know, even just running together alongside other people.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: I think that right now, too, it's really popular to join rent clubs and you know to do all of these things.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: Um, I think like after COVID too, it was more that everyone wants a connection with you know, socializing and things like that.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: So I think that yeah, running does bring people together.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Um, but now I'm a little nervous.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: I will need your tip on how to it's one mile of family.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: So oh, only one book.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Only one if you connect it with Riperton, they've caught a call powerful creator, so she has all the insight, all the deets.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, it definitely will need.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: Well, so for the 12k, does the 12k start in San Diego or yeah, and as I guess premium.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: Okay, so and then the full half marathon.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: This both, both this both.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I'm Lassar Mary guys, scrap my eyes.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: Of this, yes.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, very nice.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll make sure to uh we'll make sure Bremoni on social media.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: We'll both accuracy for sure.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, social media, the office.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: So maybe we can get like a running club weekend, the firm.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: We'll push both push meetings, we'll assign them.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: We'll get merch.
- 24:34unknown: Of course.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: And then I already mentioned like running right now, it's like a trend, right?
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think inside the like the trend right now.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Like I knew a lot of people that used to run before, but now it's like, is it a generation thing?
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Is it the fact that it brings people together?
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Is it the sneakers?
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Because everyone has a sneaker crace right now, right?
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: No, I know.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: I think it's a little bit of everything.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: Um, people have like the trend of being more healthy, um, getting into healthier habits, not drinking so much.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: So instead of waking up early um and do other stuff, um, they prefer to go running.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: And also I've seen that they try a little bit of going to different running clubs, right?
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Because there's a lot.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: And in my experience, as I go and promote the race to different running clubs, every rank club has their own vibe, right?
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: So there's one that probably it's a little bit more elite, that they're a little bit faster.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Other ones that have like when you finish the running club, they give you a free beer.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: So, you know, like there's there's a different um strategy for all of them.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: But the common thing that I've seen is that everyone's very friendly.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Like I've never felt like, I don't know, I guess that's a stranger.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: And now that I that I know a little bit more of this community people, it's it's really fun to to share this experience and the the race itself and everything that you can um everything that you can like share with them to have this ray experience and also um share about Mexico, right?
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: I oh not because only the race, but you can go and there's other running clubs there.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: We do activations before race day for the Bay National.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: So, for example, last week we had a 5k community run totally for free at a coffee shop here in Balboa, then in the Salita Coffee Shop, then next month, well this month actually, we're gonna have uh another activation in Tijuana and coffee shop San Goko in Altai.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: I love uh San Goko.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: And we're gonna have another one in North Park.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: We still don't have the date, but that's that's the beauty of the international that we do stuff in Tijuana, in San Diego, and try to connect and know each other before race day because yes, that day it's really special.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: You're already trained for everything, so it's just like enjoying the day.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: And at the end of the festival, it's really fun to see how people that don't even know each other they are like exactly connecting and celebrating uh their achievement.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: I think it's better, you know, especially when you're in a group because it's hard, it's like raid like running up by yourself.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Like how do you push this up sometimes?
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, everyone has like a garment or their Apple Watch now, and yeah, they're tracking it.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: But I feel like when you see someone else like running faster than you, it's like, well, I want to catch up with that person.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Like if he and if he or she can do it, like I want it to get up.
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: Okay, like a little healthy competition for sure.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: I I personally, when I'm on the treadmill, I like to talk on the phone with someone.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: I just feel like it distraughts me from the fact that I'm running or walking on the treadmill.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: So it makes it go by faster.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: And then, you know, you have someone that's also doing it with you.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: So for the race, it'll be very um nice that when you get to the finish line, you did it together.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: And yeah, then it's I think it's always good to add together.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: There's people that like to do them do it by themselves, but when you start running, you can like you contage the the your the people around you, right?
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: In my case, um, I run like for 14 years since 14 years, right?
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: And it took me eight years to move my family, like my clients and my sister.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: So one time we were uh organizing another race, it was during COVID, it was just for family events, and my mom, I invited my mom to help and give some water.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: And and she was like, if that person can do it, why not me?
- 28:28SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: So, and that's the beauty of everything, right?
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Like we can we can contagious the good thing, the healthy habits, yeah, and um have a good experience.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: And you use you mentioned there's gonna be kind of a festival like in Pilas, like once we're done, right?
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Um, there's gonna be like little businesses and or it you said there's packles.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: We have different vendors.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: We have different vendors, we have like music.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: This year we're gonna have like a tourism um hall that will be uh with the Secretary of State of uh Ma California, like um all of the cities will be there and providing a little bit of information of each city because um this is something new that we're gonna have, but it's really important because 80% of our of our runners are from the US.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: So it's a really good opportunity to share a little bit about Baja and the things that you could do, probably not that specific day, but so they can come back and go and they say, bye, go and visit Cardenikaya.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of things that we could do around, and it's just um really close, right?
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, a lot of activities too.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: I know that um my dad's been itching to take like a fishing trip down um in Ensenada and you know, go catch some tuna, I think.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: I'm not too sure on the fish, but um, yeah, there's a lot of things to do in Tijuana, especially to, you know, um, but I think that even just being like walking around sometimes, you can feel people's like energy, like happy.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: Everyone is just so welcoming in Tijuana, and in general.
- 30:07SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, so I feel like it's really nice to kind of showcase that.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: And there's also so many cities or hidden gems that people don't know about, and I think that's really beautiful.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: So I think that's a great opportunity to do that, and also showcase other businesses that are, you know, barely starting, but they're they're trying, you know, they're taking that risk to succeed and you know.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: And as an entrepreneur, I obviously want to help people that are starting to try to showcase their products.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: We have an expo that's one day before the race when you go and pick up your bib and everything.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: So we have one that's on a Friday at Brookrunner Sports in Cremandesa.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: But that one is a small one, it's just mostly go pick up your stuff and probably get some last minute stuff at the store.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: But and the Saturday on October 24th, we have our huge expo that is at Las Americas Cream Outlets from 10 a.m.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: to 5 p.m.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: Where we have local vendors, we have bands, stores from Las Americas that put their own booth, and we have around 30, 30 different canopies that offer um a lot of good stuff, right?
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: A three-day event.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: It's not a one-day event, it's a three event.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: It's a three-day event, yes.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: And we have also some DJing there, so it's it's really fun.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: And in the mood area for Brunny.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, especially with music too.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: I feel like we all love music, but I love the touch of the mariachi.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: I feel like that would just hit home bringing.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: I might get a little emotional when we get to that point.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Um, because I am gonna sign up.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: I yeah, committed.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Um, but I think that's really beautiful.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, also for Las Amegas.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna do some damage shopping off, but I feel like it's definitely gonna be a fun, like the event, you know, especially as we're, you know, like leaving summer soon and it's gonna be fall.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be a nice transition, I would say, to that.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, as and we've grown organically, but really fast.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: So the first year we had 1200 runners registered within the pre-dis two distances, then the second year, 2200.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: And this year our goal is to get to 5,000 runners.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: Um, our ideal scenario will be like sold out, then you have to register for next year or something.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the waiting list.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: But let's see what happens.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: We still have two months and a half.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: So as a runner, sometimes don't sign up at early or yeah, it's the last minute.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: So let's see what happens.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: But we're really exciting uh what could we get to?
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: I feel like you've been promoting it a lot.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Like once I once I knew you were gonna be in the podcast, uh, you know, I've looked it up on Instagram, and since then, like the ads all the time, I see it all the time, which means that you guys have uh a good team that's doing it.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and going back to the team because you said it's a three people team.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Uh, are you getting any like volunteers to help out?
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Are you getting any other businesses to help out?
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Like, what's the strategy like that?
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so um we always looking for volunteers.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: There's uh in a rock side, there's like a you can sign up for volunteering.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: That's the most important part.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Like that day, all my memory saved for to help as a VIP volunteer, you know.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: I guess it's a lot of work.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and every year we've noticed that we need more people, more people, right?
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: So uh I we promised ourselves that this year we're gonna like, I prefer to have more volunteers and then like they could chill a little bit.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: But yes, it's it's hard.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, but we have a great team.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: As I mentioned, um, TinyHQ hires people to help, right?
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: But either way, we do have our VIP volunteers that help help that specific day, like for check-inks, questions.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, we have like a little store that um we sell and merge, so all the things we can do it by ourselves, right?
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: So it's a lot of work, it's a big, big project.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: So uh, but that's good, but you have all these volunteers.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, you just tell our listeners like where do they go to sign up?
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: What's the uh what's the website?
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: What's your social media?
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, we want to make sure that if we get if you can get anything from this, it's a little support, right?
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, thank you so much.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: So um everything like registration is through us uh through our website that's uh binational race.com.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: You register there um for the three distances, you pick the one that you want.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: Also, we have um our Instagram that's at binational race.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: You could see all the events that we're having before the race there, any last-minute notice or information, also information from our sponsors that um two weeks before the race, we do um send a virtual goodie bag for all the people that registered and have some like coupons, information, and battle thanks that you should take advantage of.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: Um and yes, so everything's through our website.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: It's on October 25th of this year, 26.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: And we're very excited to have a lot of people sign up uh for this third edition.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: And every year we're gonna do a baby.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: So uh there's a lot of people that are legacy runners now, and um, we're doing this thing that if you've been racing for the three years, you get an extra surprise at the end.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: Little motivation.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I've I've been doing that for the Sandillo Happer when I started last year.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: I did my it was my 11th um consecutive race.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: So you have like a VIP style, but you feel that you're the best rehab, and I like I love how I feel.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: So how do you wanted to incorporate that same thing to our race?
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're loyal runners, all right.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I definitely want to join for this one, and you know, the ones that come after that I can be like an OG.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: I started when it was, you know, in the beginning, face ages, yeah.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: So no, it's gonna be a great race.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: I'm definitely gonna push, I'm gonna push my family to do it.
- 36:02SPEAKER_02: Or even go and share up and just see what we do.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: I talked to my family last year, even my grandma has 88 years old.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: She went to see, and she was like, Oh, Lydia, you do all this, and I'm and she was like, Well, you just tell everyone that comes in knows you.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: It's like because they get the they get the experience, right?
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: You aren't you're not in this like running world, you don't even know what a race looks like.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: You feel the energy though, exactly.
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: Where you gather, you're like, okay, this is huge.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's good.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: And what time is the uh the start of the race?
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Because I know these are generally pretty early in the morning, right?
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's gonna be around 7 30 a.m.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: That's not too bad.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, then no, no, no.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: I feel like we wake up pretty early, and I'm here at like 5 30, 6 30 a.m.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: And then I know David usually goes to you know super early, and I'm like, oh my goodness, that's I used to wake up at 4 a.m.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: for those, but not anymore.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: Which are which are nice.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the thing is that that in October it's a little bit darker.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: So that's why you have fixed events at 30.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: And and where you see, like, you know, you spoke about that you're gonna make the race better and better every year.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Where do you see the race going?
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: Like, what are the long-term goals for this race?
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you like envision?
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: But we would like to like a marathon that crosses the border.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: That'll be like our goal.
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: And now like one of the eight, you know, like the majors or something.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: That's like my goal.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: But you know, it takes time.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: No, of course, but yes.
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, making a marathon could be the goal, and also increasing the in a short term, it'll be increasing the runners that we have, probably like 10,000 runners or something.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: So that could be the bowl.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: And um, yes, I guess very doable, especially because we have people that I see.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: So I'm part of uh I'm part of a lot of orgs here in uh San Diego, especially one which is a legal org.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: So I'm a board member there, and we actually have in that group uh a runners group.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, and they're all talking about running, they're all talking about the races, and they're all talking about sneakers.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: That's why I'm here to mill all the ASAPs and the Brooks and the Ghosts and the Noble Blast.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, if not, I wouldn't be.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I think I'm gonna get some Ace Noble Blast for this race.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: You should get it at Road Runners.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: We have a special disc amount.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, there's also share that with you.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Notice I was adopted by them yesterday, so I'll wait.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I for sure need new running shoes.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: And like I said, I'm not a runner, but you know, really matters let this go.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, and I personally, I mean, I love looking the parts.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna get a vest.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: I've been here, yeah, because I'm definitely gonna go to that store, but I will wait for the coupons for sure.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: That is perfect.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: I think it's uh an exciting project, and just the fact that it's very my national.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you know, like we here in Gomez Rat, also by national, like I say, we're just open up the Tijuana office.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: And one of the reasons for that is because we realized that from back in the day, we were already representing quigwana families here in San Diego.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: So we decided to do what you're doing, having people cross the border.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: So now we cross the borders of that, uh, which is fantastic, and you're doing it a lot at a larger scale, right?
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: We we mentioned that we always brag about Tijuana and trying to keep, but just the fact that you have uh the state uh representatives uh basically out highlighting Ensenada and highlights Tijuana and the different cities in Baja, that is a lot, right?
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Uh we had the opportunity to have a CDF Ensenada uh about a month and a half ago with Provindo, uh Baruch Kiper Baye, Kanak Calirac, and they were here at the office promoting Ensenada with the General Commerce.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: So that's those are some of the things that we like doing.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: That's why we we love having you here as our guest because we share that by nationality and by what you're saying.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: I'll say like by natural mindset that you you have like for granted that everyone understands the border life, but they don't.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: I uh I have an interesting story.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: I'm not taking it away from binational, but uh I was at a conference, a Livo conference, and there were attorneys from all over the country flying into the mirror right here by the convention center where you can actually see glides at Tijuana.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, their question was so where is Tijuana?
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: I keep hearing that Tijuana is very close, and I just told them, you know what?
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Just turn around right here.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: They couldn't believe it, right?
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: So I think like all this opens the eyes to people like this is is it that simple?
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: Like it's you don't need to like drive an hour to get to Tijuana.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: And I feel like just when I see people crossing the border like through this race and crossing to where the cars go by, it's just like amazing, right?
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: Like where if you really think of it, I know Ferni is like they're both my home, so it's like one.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: For me, it's one.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: But I think that no, this is gonna be a great race where it's gonna showcase that, you know, I think our fern too, we like to, you know, also speak in Spanish.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: And I feel like that's something that a lot of our clients when they're cuona, they, you know, if they have a case with us because they live here, and then you talk to them in Spanish and they're like, oh, no se recognise, thank God.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: And you know, it's like, well, we want to make sure that you know we're representing the communities.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: So people are expressing sides of the language or something.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: So I think that's very beautiful.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: And I think that, yeah, this race kind of does that.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: And then for you know, for our listeners too, uh, because I know like this race needs uh sponsors.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: Uh what kind of sponsorships do you have?
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: What kind of businesses do you have that can help out the race that can pitch in?
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: Like, what are you looking for?
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: Yes, everyone's welcome, obviously.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: Of course, but um, I think the best part is that we have a lot of people that are coming from the United States, right?
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of opportunities of the binational community that's hard to build and they're there.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: So um I I always like to like pitch the sponsorship for people that are looking for a binational community as you are, for example, right?
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: So CDX, for example, is one of our sponsors.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: Um, we have um one cleaning company that it's made that they are in both in San Diego and Tijuana.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: So also like identifying the companies that are in both sites.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: So when we're Tijuana, we know, oh, okay, now we combine Fandimo, right?
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: So um we do have different types of sponsorship.
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: Anyone that's interested can send me an email to Valeria at binationalrece.com.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: But this year we're influencing something really fun that are like uh miles, like mile signage, like huge mile signage that every company that's willing to sponsor, they will own that mile, saying that they could do like activations there.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: They can invite their company teams and put their shirts and do like cheering stations.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: Um, a lot of people um like to do like different activations of um, I don't know, give and awake um electrolytes or anything besides everything that's already set up in the rags, like something special or even gummies, or I don't know.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: It's it depends on what they're looking for, right?
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: But um also one of our sponsors is like a massage studio that has branches in Sandea Wan Tijuana.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: So then kind of sponsorships that are in both sides of the um this both cities are the ones that accommodate the best, but either way, anyone's welcome.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Who is that massage studio?
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Uh Alexander's I knew it was gonna be your master.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: She's well known.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: She came to our party in Tijuana for her opening.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, she's a good friend.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: Yes, shout out to her.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: No, very nice, very nice.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, I feel like we covered a lot.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's pretty exciting.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're both gonna sign up.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: I do want to do the half marathon.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: I've never done one, but I I've always been like into sports, so I know I catch up pretty quickly.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: He was bragging today.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, I did five miles, like I did uh I did five miles on Monday, five miles on Tuesday, and then Wednesday I was lazy.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: But I gotta go, I just gotta go back and start training, training it up, right?
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: Because that's the strategy.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: A race to start.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, and you don't pay your ticket because sometimes you are okay, nice week, and that happens to me.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: So yeah, um I'll sign up for sure.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a poor guy.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: And we'll get other people.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Uh so generally before we uh say goodbye, uh are you familiar with Osotrava?
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, I love it.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so like John, John myself, we we like his his ending, so we sort of like copy him a little bit.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: So let's say if you had, you know, like like a pencil or like a feather to write things in the sky for everyone to see, like what would that be?
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: I will say that um instead of dividing ourselves, let's be um um uh a community that unites ourselves.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, love that.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but we it hits us.
- 45:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it does it does hit us, honestly.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: And I think that yeah, we work better when we're in a team.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it's a great change.
- 45:10SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you, Nadia.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Nadia, for co-hosting today.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, love having you here.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Valeria, thank you for making the drive, stopping by our office.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: We look forward to your success at the Binational Race.

- 45:35SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Lady.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
